- 0:13Welcome back to Banter with the Boys. Gridiron
- 0:16updates. This is our tent talk. Boom. Episode.
- 0:20You already know. I am Smelty, of course. And
- 0:23alongside me, our co -host, Roberto. But now
- 0:29I got to get it in unison. I'm almost there.
- 0:31You're working on it. Only one lasso that time.
- 0:34That's right. And then to my Larry, old Jake.
- 0:37Hi. Up? Yeah. He's here. Kev behind the camera
- 0:43getting everything done for us as always. Let's
- 0:47just rip this thing off right away here. Excuse
- 0:51me, I was struggling with that. First off, Smeltsy's
- 0:54down right now. A little chest congestion. He's
- 0:59questionable to return. Upper body injury. He's
- 1:02going to fight through here. Jalen Hurts, done
- 1:04for the season with a blood clot. That's more
- 1:07than one multiple. Yeah, that's crazy. So in
- 1:10the same spot, you have injuries. It's the same
- 1:13thing, really. No, I'm just kidding. No, truly.
- 1:15We hope Jalen hurts, you know, heals up quick.
- 1:18And that's very serious thing. Not cool. Not
- 1:22cool. And, you know, obviously questions arising
- 1:25right away from it. If this was known before
- 1:29and if he was allowed to play with it and all
- 1:32this stuff coming out. Crap, there is even a
- 1:35crazy fake -ass story that Kev was putting out
- 1:39there this morning, but it's almost legit for
- 1:41a minute. You didn't see that in the group chat?
- 1:44Oh, I think I did. They kept him up overnight,
- 1:48worried about him going to sleep, and then he
- 1:51still played in the London game? No, but that's
- 1:54wild. For safety, yeah. Which, if that story
- 2:05is true, that's why they play. I really hope
- 2:08that's not true. I did not, for some reason,
- 2:11I did not hear any of that. I was talking about
- 2:14him suing. Suing the Eagles organization. Wow,
- 2:20if he was. okay you can't sleep because man yeah
- 2:23that's not yeah so that's not good okay well
- 2:25we get all the information those are sources
- 2:27sources per sources yep yep flock doc uh per
- 2:31sources yep uh all right let's keep rolling down
- 2:34the list here davante adams that was a big one
- 2:36uh we touched on him in the uh recap episode
- 2:40but uh rams receiver down with a torn hamstring
- 2:43out estimated six to ten weeks massive loss for
- 2:47the rams offense which is Already not necessarily
- 2:51been looking the best, but he's been a big factor.
- 2:54He's been a huge factor. He's been their big
- 2:57goal line touchdown. Red zone guy, yeah. It gets
- 3:02worse for the Rams. Puna Ford, their D -tackle,
- 3:04torn triceps, expected to miss the entire season.
- 3:08Colby Turner, the other D -tackle, his groin,
- 3:10he's expected to miss four to six weeks. Just
- 3:13bad to worse for the Rams every single week right
- 3:15now, whether it's the game or injuries. Preseason
- 3:19Vegas favorites. Yeah. They were a pretty favorite
- 3:22here, too, on the boys, I reckon. Yeah. We really
- 3:26talked up that defense, and they made the big
- 3:27trade. Things were just tracking for the Rams
- 3:30to have an outstanding year. But season's not
- 3:32over, and you never know, of course. But that
- 3:35doesn't help things if you're the Rams. Let's
- 3:39see. Did you have something? No. Oh, no. Right
- 3:41on. You were just. sign yeah yeah right um sauce
- 3:45uh the colts corner uh he left week six with
- 3:50a calf injury timetable uncertain however wait
- 3:54till we get to the news portion of this i do
- 3:56believe sauce could be on the block and on the
- 4:00way out of indianapolis after some big news there's
- 4:04a lot of news actually for indianapolis this
- 4:06week but we'll get to it um vlad mcconkey uh
- 4:09concussion he's in protocol We know that that
- 4:12could be next week or five weeks from now, so
- 4:16never know there. Rashad Bateman is ruled out
- 4:20during week six. Flock, Doc, do we see Rashad
- 4:24Bateman in week seven for the Baltimore Ravens?
- 4:27No. No good? No, we don't see him. What about
- 4:30our friend? Lamar? Yeah. The word on the street
- 4:36right now for Lamar is that he could potentially
- 4:38practice this week. Yes. However, he's still
- 4:43being considered day -to -day. And with him not
- 4:49playing last week? A lot of us were really optimistic
- 4:51last week based on how he was at least walking
- 4:54around that it felt like, okay, he's going to
- 4:57play even though he didn't really practice. Hopefully,
- 5:01he actually practices in some kind of limited
- 5:04capacity this week because it's going to be a
- 5:08division game against the Bengals. Kind of want
- 5:10to have... All your weapons. Your whole arsenal.
- 5:13Yeah. Locked and loaded. So you're not officially
- 5:16saying, take the extra week this week for Lamar.
- 5:20You'd like to see him in there? Yeah. Right on.
- 5:23They need it. Don't take the extra week. Yeah.
- 5:29Well, I mean, I was expecting him to play last
- 5:31week, and then he ended up taking the extra week.
- 5:34If you've got a personal message, just look right
- 5:36into that camera. Lamar, practice. There it is.
- 5:42There it is. Lamar practice. From our own Allen
- 5:44Iverson. That's it. That's right. Excuse me,
- 5:49G. Willikers. Let's see. A couple more concussions.
- 5:52Reed Blankenship, Texans safety. He left the
- 5:55game against Jacksonville. He's in concussion
- 5:57protocol. Nolan Smith. That one actually looked
- 6:00kind of bad, too. The Eagles edge rusher. He's
- 6:02in concussion protocol as well. I don't know.
- 6:04Another Bryce Young. I talked him up last episode
- 6:08for whatever reason. As a good moral person,
- 6:11whatever you believe in, when Nolan Smith went
- 6:14down, you could see Bryce Young kind of off to
- 6:16the side praying for him immediately before he
- 6:18even walked off the field. So, I don't know.
- 6:20Just, again, good moral thing from old Bryce
- 6:22Young there. And team – no, they were not teammates.
- 6:25I just sinned right there. Anyway, Devontae Turpin.
- 6:30Those two were in college. No, that's – anyway,
- 6:33sorry. Kavante Turpin. Rib cartilage. He did
- 6:37not return. X -rays are negative. So we'll see.
- 6:42We'll see his timetable. Let's see. Blake Group.
- 6:47Rams kicker. Torn ACL placed on IR. No good.
- 6:52No good. No good. What else you guys got for
- 6:57injuries? You got any more? Doc's always got
- 7:01a list or two. Jury's still out on Cam Juergens.
- 7:04Oh, that's right, Juergen. Yeah. Then, I don't
- 7:08know, Voorhees for the Ravens again, still kind
- 7:11of eh. We'll see. Oh, Vikes. Do they get Jordan
- 7:17Mason back? I think we get Mason back. It's the
- 7:19word on the street. Sources are saying. Yeah,
- 7:21I just thought about that. That would actually
- 7:23be great for the Vikings. Aaron Jones has just
- 7:27been carrying the team on his back right now,
- 7:29other than the defense. So offensively, yes.
- 7:33So it would just be good to get him some help.
- 7:35But don't worry. We got some trade speculation
- 7:36coming up in the news, and I got some ideas for
- 7:39the old Minnesota Vikings on both sides of the
- 7:42ball. Yeah. Well, you got any injuries? I just
- 7:46had Romeo Dobbs kind of on the fantasy aspect
- 7:48on the list. And then another running back out
- 7:53of Denver. Batty got hurt, too. So, pick up Coleman.
- 7:57If he's available, Chardon Charbonnet is possibly
- 8:00coming back. So, if he's available. And Weird
- 8:03with... scataboo right now in new york and what's
- 8:07going on with zero carries last week yeah tyrone
- 8:10tracy jr so if he's available i would pick him
- 8:14up and then omar cooper jr showing some flashes
- 8:17the guy from in first rounder from indiana that
- 8:20got pretty much undrafted one of the craziest
- 8:23things i've seen in fantasy football this year
- 8:25a first rounder uh not getting drafted at all
- 8:28and then What about Lane, Jacoby Lane? Is he
- 8:34possibly coming back on that? He played this
- 8:36past week. He actually looked really sharp. All
- 8:38right, so he might be available in some leagues,
- 8:40too. Yeah, with Bateman going on the shelf. And
- 8:44Lane looked pretty good, too. All right, so check
- 8:47your rosters for that. And then Mikael Washington,
- 8:50Ricky out of Dolphins, too. I mean, if he's still
- 8:53available, he's been showing some flashes. Was
- 8:57that just a rob? Fantasy Minute right there?
- 9:00I loved it. Just snuck it in there. There was
- 9:04one injury we forgot to talk about, fellas. Mike
- 9:07McCarthy went down with a foot injury near the
- 9:12end of the second half. Oh, not a pickleball
- 9:15injury? This is first half. Okay, this is end
- 9:19of the second half, but this is AI slap right
- 9:23here. Kev, Europe, was the one that brought up
- 9:26this injury that I totally forgot about. But,
- 9:29yeah, Mike McCarthy, foot and ankle injury. Let's
- 9:33see. Nothing major. End of the first half, he
- 9:39was stepped on. Right on. Yeah, yeah, spent the
- 9:44whole halftime in the blue tent. But he is expected
- 9:47to travel with the team. So, no downtime from
- 9:50Mike McCarthy, it sounds like. So, good news.
- 9:52Well, I mean, with Aaron Rodgers as your quarterback,
- 9:54too, it's like, do you? Do you really need your
- 9:57head coach calling plays? Probably not. Probably
- 10:01not. When he takes so long to get them in. Anyway,
- 10:04let's see. Top of the news probably here. Colts
- 10:10GM Chris Ballard is fired. He gone. And is this
- 10:15the beginning of the end for the Colts? You know,
- 10:18if they lose any more games, is it they just
- 10:21start selling off at this point? Yep. I mean,
- 10:25if they do, it'd be perfectly a good time to
- 10:27do it before the Vikings game. I mean, yes. So
- 10:33the guys on that list, clearly, you know, DeForest,
- 10:37Buckner, Taylor, you know, do any of those. I
- 10:42mean, what are they waiting for? What are the
- 10:45Colts waiting for at this point? They just fired
- 10:46the GM. So is that the next step after firing
- 10:50a GM is not having a great season to start to
- 10:53cut some of the. higher -priced vets to attempt
- 10:57to get picks for the new GM and do all, you know
- 11:00what I mean? They shouldn't go into a full rebuild
- 11:02or anything crazy, but is that the next step
- 11:06after you fire the GM? Are we going to see some
- 11:08of these? They're in second place right now.
- 11:09I know, but I think some of these big -name players
- 11:13could get moved from Indianapolis. I'm telling
- 11:15you. I just don't think it's Major League Baseball.
- 11:18I don't think people move as quickly as everyone.
- 11:21I don't know if you dump. I was just looking
- 11:23at Jonathan Taylor. He's only 27. For some reason,
- 11:28I thought he was 29. He's still on the list.
- 11:31I don't know. Who else are they getting? A team
- 11:35like Denver. Do you think they try to go all
- 11:37in and try to get a Jonathan Taylor to fix that
- 11:40missing piece? They'd have to work out some kind.
- 11:44They'd have to be giving up. a one yeah for like
- 11:49jonathan taylor maybe for like deforest buckner
- 11:51um i don't maybe do like a like a second well
- 11:55i think a second is a little heavy what what
- 11:58i mean where do you think taylor what's taylor's
- 12:01he's one of the top value to you yeah i don't
- 12:05know second and fourth probably in the same year
- 12:07second and fourth And then you're probably going
- 12:11to be end of the second and end of the fourth.
- 12:16So Minnesota right now was like, hey, we want
- 12:19to engage in JT talk. Yeah. Do you give up your
- 12:24do you give up your twenty twenty seven first
- 12:26round with the expectation that is going to be
- 12:29a late first round pick? No. No? Yeah, and the
- 12:36money wouldn't work with the other thing I'm
- 12:38thinking of. It's essentially a second. I'd be
- 12:40like bundle him and Sauce for like a couple big
- 12:43picks, so like two firsts or something, or a
- 12:45first and a second. They gave up a one for Sauce,
- 12:48so they're going to likely expect a one in return
- 12:50for Sauce. Yeah, 100%. Yeah. Okay, so between
- 12:53their two defensive players, Buckner or Sauce,
- 12:55who gets traded first? Buckner, because he's
- 12:58going to be cheaper. Yeah. Right on. Right on.
- 13:01But anyway, I don't know. I just feel like there
- 13:04could be some more shaking up yet to happen.
- 13:07Sure. And we're seeing it more every year. We've
- 13:09seen these trades for these bigger all -star
- 13:11players. Traditionally in the NFL, you didn't
- 13:15see a ton of it, especially during season. You'd
- 13:18see more off -season, if anything. But, yeah,
- 13:22I'm starting to see these GMs be a little more
- 13:24aggressive and not valuing those future picks.
- 13:28And that's where the NBA is like that. How far
- 13:34out can you... The salary cap is just so much
- 13:36different, I think, in the NFL. You've got to
- 13:39really start playing with numbers to move these
- 13:42big numbers. When everything turns into a freaking
- 13:44roster bonus or something, they can hide it and
- 13:47make it happen. You've got to almost restructure.
- 13:50A lot of things. It's more than just one. How
- 13:53many years out can you trade a... Three. Three.
- 13:56Okay. There were conversations this past offseason
- 14:00about increasing that number from three to five,
- 14:05I think. Yay, nay on that for you, Doc. I don't
- 14:11know. Does it make the league better? No. I don't
- 14:16know. I think you'd see. The worst teams continue
- 14:19to get worse, probably, because they're going
- 14:20to be like, oh, my God, we could trade all these
- 14:22picks and grab LeBron Dime and then be mint.
- 14:26You know what I mean? I don't know. And then
- 14:29if that backfires, you just set yourself back
- 14:31possibly five years. But you also see it work.
- 14:35Look at the Rams. They have an F them picks mentality,
- 14:37and it works year after year after year. They're
- 14:43still competitive. Yeah. And that's what you
- 14:47want out of your team. Band -aided together,
- 14:50yeah. Anyway, keeping the theme of trades here,
- 14:57would you rather see the Vikings trade for a
- 15:03– if they have some money after J .J. Mack a
- 15:07little bit and then they had money prior, they
- 15:11had like 18 mil just chilling all season. So
- 15:13do they – Go after a running back to help in
- 15:17that backfield? I vote no because Mason's coming
- 15:19back. How much are we going to get? I don't know.
- 15:21Or Aaron Jones goes down and then you're messed
- 15:24up back there. Or do you try to go get, like,
- 15:27a safety or something? I mean, secondary is always
- 15:30going to be helped because it's such a long NFL
- 15:32season. I guarantee you that someone's going
- 15:34to get banged up back there. And then you start
- 15:36playing with, you know, your practice -wad guys.
- 15:39And against NFL quarterbacks, that's where they
- 15:41can expose those guys the most. But I would say
- 15:45second on that list is just since Jackson, our
- 15:48left guard, is out for a year, even a simple
- 15:51fourth -round trade for some depth is something
- 15:55I'd like him to see. Go get Ezra Cleveland. I'll
- 15:58bring him back. Bradbury, you know, what do you
- 16:01want? Ed McDaniel? That's right. Hey, yes, that
- 16:06would be great. If you could, again, if the numbers
- 16:10worked out. Winfield or Buda Baker, who would
- 16:13be the better fit in Minnesota for Flores? I
- 16:18mean, I prefer a corner. They're used slightly
- 16:20different, but... I mean, it's a ton of Theo
- 16:23Jackson. They're mixing it up. They're mixing
- 16:26between Josh Metellus, Theo Jackson, and Harrison
- 16:28Smith. They're kind of running a three -combo
- 16:31thing there. And they rotate so crazy and different
- 16:35that... And they're just kind of all changing
- 16:38positions. So just another definitely a slot
- 16:40corner or another outside corner, too. Because,
- 16:44I mean, even though Rodgers and Murphy have been
- 16:45playing really nice, but if one of those guys
- 16:48go down. Yeah, how sustainable does that feel
- 16:50right now? I mean, that changes that defense,
- 16:52I think, a lot because they have so much trust
- 16:54right now with those two on the outside. Yeah,
- 16:58don't get me wrong. I don't want to. add something,
- 17:00and then blow everything up, and the defense
- 17:02is playing outstanding right now. But I'm just
- 17:03saying. But you'd go corner. But not like a true
- 17:07number one, unless one of those get hurt. Well,
- 17:09what if you could go get sauce? Would you take
- 17:13them? No. No. I mean, I would. I'd love them
- 17:17to be on the Vikings, but why? We have Rodgers,
- 17:20and then we're going to do it with Murphy. But
- 17:22you just said corner, so I was just throwing
- 17:23a corner at you. But if you do that, then one
- 17:25of them's got to play nickel. Who do you trust
- 17:28most as your nickelback? Yeah, but can one of
- 17:29them, like Rodgers, also maybe start playing
- 17:32a little safety, a little mess around back there
- 17:36with his speed a little bit? You know what I
- 17:37mean? I don't know. Not for the cost it would
- 17:40take to get sauce. Sure, right. You would probably
- 17:43be better off getting Buda Baker to play, like,
- 17:47play down. Hybrid, yeah. You know, take some
- 17:51snaps away from 3 -0 Jackson, if anything. Well,
- 17:54well. As the trade deadline nears, I think it's
- 17:58three weeks from tomorrow, anything you're looking
- 18:01for the Ravens to do yet, or do you think they're
- 18:04done? Juergens was the big one. Probably still
- 18:11looking to get some offensive line depth. They're
- 18:14still banged up. We don't know right now when
- 18:17Juergens is going to start playing. Again, hopefully
- 18:19it's this week. We were hoping it was last week.
- 18:26Yeah, offensive line depth, probably also looking
- 18:31at depth at corner. The front four on the defensive
- 18:36side, they're working well together right now.
- 18:40They're playing strong. So I think generally
- 18:43speaking, we're probably not going to see any
- 18:45real big or significant moves, and it's just
- 18:49going to be more like depth pieces. Right on.
- 18:52And we've still got a couple weeks out, right?
- 18:56Three weeks out before the deadline? Yeah. Yeah,
- 18:58yeah, yeah. But conversations are starting. Obviously,
- 19:02things will continue to change as injuries happen.
- 19:05Like, John Jennings is hot right now. That news
- 19:08is hot that he could get traded. It'd be a low
- 19:10-level trade, but that he could go back to San
- 19:12Fran, who could use a receiver and all this other
- 19:14crap or whatever. Take one of their corners.
- 19:16Yeah, yeah. There you go. Hey, actually, that
- 19:20would work. Get some corner depth out of that.
- 19:24What was the thing I was going to say bringing
- 19:27up in this? Oh, Justin Herbert, you said you
- 19:29all were done with the trade talk for a minute,
- 19:31unless you got something else. Herbert, you looked
- 19:34into him on all 22. His feet, he's just very
- 19:38inconsistent. He had so many, just in this last
- 19:41game watching, he had so many balls batted at
- 19:44the... at the line of scrimmage, you know, on
- 19:46screen passes or just different arm angles. I
- 19:49don't know if that's just the tape on them, but
- 19:51really the defense, you know, and his accuracy
- 19:55was a little suspect, I thought, just watching
- 19:58a little bit through it. Their lack of running
- 20:01game really hurts that offense, too. Do you think
- 20:04he's a need -to -change -your -scenery kind of
- 20:07guy and would maybe spark back up a little bit?
- 20:09You give him a number one receiver, I think he's
- 20:12a different player. Yeah. Like they're missing
- 20:14a wide receiver. So is that what I should shift
- 20:16my focus for for Vikings 2027? Is what? Is Herbert?
- 20:21No. I don't think. No. I'm throwing out all these
- 20:24horrible hypotheticals. No. No. Yeah. It's not.
- 20:30It's not all on Herbert. No, it's not. He's still
- 20:34also learning a new offense, which I don't think
- 20:36fits him in any way, shape or form. So this is
- 20:39this Mike McDaniel. That's the other thing. How
- 20:41much longer is that? He's on all stuff. You know,
- 20:44a lot of screens, a lot of bubbles, a lot of
- 20:46misdirection stuff. And also, to your point,
- 20:52the offensive line isn't doing him any favors.
- 20:53He's the most hit quarterback right now. And
- 20:55they're one of the most injured old lines, probably,
- 20:58of the season, along with your boys, honestly.
- 21:00I mean, you can't dump him. I mean, he still
- 21:03is too young. 100%. Let's see. Let me think.
- 21:09Oh, the only other piece of news I had. Bill's
- 21:11safety, C .J. Gardner -Johnson, suspended one
- 21:13game following his week six ejection. That's
- 21:16it. Good. A little Hawk Tuohy. Yeah, that's right.
- 21:21I think that was the penalty, wasn't it? Yeah,
- 21:22yep. Yep, for spitting on a player. Classic.
- 21:26Who did that last year? That was Dak. Jalen Carter.
- 21:29He did it on Dak, right? Towards Dak. Allegedly,
- 21:32Dak did it first, and then he did it back. Because
- 21:34Dak was just spitting at the ground, though.
- 21:36He's like, ah, I spit on the ground. No, I think
