- Lucas: Hey there, welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and I'm here with Luna. Luna: Hi everyone! Ready to learn some more Malay today? I know I am. Lucas: And we at Fexingo are so happy you're joining us. Speaking of happy... that's actually our topic today. Luna: Ohh, emotions? Like happy and sad? Lucas: Exactly. We're going to learn how to say 'I am happy' and 'I am sad' in Malay, and how to ask someone how they feel. Luna: Perfect. I remember from earlier episodes we learned 'Saya suka' for 'I like' and 'Saya tidak suka' for 'I don't like'. So is it similar? Lucas: Great connection. The structure is the same: 'Saya' means 'I', and then we add the feeling word. So 'I am happy' is 'Saya gembira'. Luna: Saya gembira. Lucas: Perfect. Gembira means happy. Let's break it down: say it with me, gembira. Luna: Gembira. Lucas: And 'I am sad' is 'Saya sedih'. Luna: Saya sedih. Lucas: Yes. Sedih means sad. Try it: sedih. Luna: Sedih. Lucas: Now, let's practice a little dialogue. Imagine you just got a new pet. You might say, 'Saya gembira'. Luna: Saya gembira! I would be so happy. Lucas: And if you lost your phone, you might say, 'Saya sedih'. Luna: Saya sedih. That's easy. Lucas: Now, to ask someone 'Are you happy?' you say 'Awak gembira?'. Luna: Awak gembira? Lucas: And 'Are you sad?' is 'Awak sedih?'. Luna: Awak sedih? Lucas: Exactly. Let's do a quick role play. I'll ask you a question, and you answer. Luna: Okay, I'm ready. Lucas: Luna, awak gembira? Luna: Saya gembira! Because I'm learning Malay. Lucas: That's the right answer. Now you ask me. Luna: Lucas, awak sedih? Lucas: Tidak. Saya gembira. I'm happy too. Luna: Oh, I see. So 'tidak' can be used to say 'no' or 'not'. Lucas: Yes. So 'Tidak, saya gembira' means 'No, I am happy'. Luna: That's useful. What if I want to say 'I feel happy' instead of 'I am happy'? Lucas: Great question. You can say 'Saya rasa gembira'. 'Rasa' means 'feel'. Luna: Saya rasa gembira. Lucas: And 'Saya rasa sedih'. Luna: Saya rasa sedih. Lucas: So we have two ways to express feelings: 'Saya gembira' and 'Saya rasa gembira'. Both are common. Luna: I like 'Saya rasa gembira' because it's more specific. Lucas: Exactly. Let's practice with a short story. Imagine it's a sunny day and you're at the beach. What do you say? Luna: Saya gembira! Lucas: Now, if it starts raining and you have to go home? Luna: Saya sedih. Lucas: Perfect. Now let's do a quick review. Repeat after me: Saya gembira. Luna: Saya gembira. Lucas: Saya sedih. Luna: Saya sedih. Lucas: Awak gembira? Luna: Awak gembira? Lucas: Awak sedih? Luna: Awak sedih? Lucas: Saya rasa gembira. Luna: Saya rasa gembira. Lucas: Saya rasa sedih. Luna: Saya rasa sedih. Lucas: Excellent. You've got it. Luna: This is really fun. I can already use these in a conversation. Lucas: And remember, you can always use 'Apa khabar?' to ask how someone is, but now you can also ask specifically about their feelings. Luna: Right. 'Awak gembira?' is more direct. Lucas: Yes. So next time you meet a friend, you can ask 'Awak gembira?' and they'll be impressed. Luna: I'll try that. Thanks, Lucas. Lucas: You're welcome. And thank you for joining us on Fexingo. Keep practicing these phrases throughout your day. Luna: Yes, practice makes perfect. See you next time! Lucas: Selamat tinggal! And don't forget to subscribe for more tiny Malay lessons. Luna: Bye bye!
