- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, good afternoon listeners. Thank you so much for listening
- 0:03Speaker 1: to lament of hope podcast as you guys know We
- 0:07Speaker 1: are nearing our 300th episode, which is amazing And so
- 0:12Speaker 1: many people from around the world with different struggles and
- 0:15Speaker 1: stories And it's all because of you guys and your support.
- 0:18Speaker 1: So i'm super grateful I feel like I have to
- 0:21Speaker 1: say that every time I start because I just it
- 0:23Speaker 1: always blows me away when I think about it.
- 0:25Speaker 2: And um With this, it's like someone telling you that
- 0:34Speaker 2: they're suicidal and you're just handing them a gun instead.
- 0:38Speaker 2: And we take away the opportunity for hope. We take
- 0:44Speaker 2: away the opportunity to heal those parts of us that
- 0:49Speaker 2: can be healed. And that doesn't mean it's an easy journey.
- 0:54Speaker 2: I'm not saying like, hey, you're going to have somebody
- 0:56Speaker 2: next to you and everything's going to be better and whatever.
- 0:59Speaker 2: You know, we're all going to smile and move on
- 1:01Speaker 2: and tomorrow's perfect. You know, there are some really long
- 1:06Speaker 2: journeys to go through that are difficult. But there's so
- 1:16Speaker 2: much love and beauty behind walking through somebody during those
- 1:24Speaker 2: times of their life. I have family members who have
- 1:28Speaker 2: recently passed away and I got to be there with them.
- 1:32Speaker 2: And what an honor to be a part of their
- 1:38Speaker 2: life at the end of their life. And I think
- 1:42Speaker 2: that we just, we don't put enough emphasis on everything
- 1:51Speaker 2: there is to learn and experience at every stage of life.
- 1:57Speaker 1: You know, you have a really good point about how
- 2:03Speaker 1: if people are suicidal, we want to get them help.
- 2:08Speaker 1: But it does seem that when people are choosing to die,
- 2:14Speaker 1: I guess in a dignified manner, which is how we
- 2:17Speaker 1: get the phrase deaf with dignity, It seems to switch.
- 2:22Speaker 1: It seems to be that from what I've seen and heard,
- 2:27Speaker 1: people will say, well, they want to die and they're
- 2:30Speaker 1: doing it in a dignified manner that is legal in
- 2:34Speaker 1: wherever they're doing it. Therefore, it's okay. And I find
- 2:40Speaker 1: that really interesting. If it's okay to choose... your death,
- 2:47Speaker 1: which is, I mean, it is suicide because you could
- 2:50Speaker 1: keep living, you know, but you're choosing to end it.
- 2:53Speaker 1: So you're putting an end date on your life, but
- 2:56Speaker 1: you're doing it via a way that is legal or
- 2:59Speaker 1: via medicine or a way that is really covered, cloaked
- 3:05Speaker 1: from the world, right? We don't see what's going to happen.
- 3:08Speaker 1: We just know that's going to happen. And usually when
- 3:10Speaker 1: it does, it's maybe one family member is there. Maybe
- 3:14Speaker 1: no one's there. It's just the clinician who's ever doing
- 3:18Speaker 1: the administering of the drug.
- 3:21Speaker 2: And they actually have to be in most places I
- 3:25Speaker 2: believe there's a couple places that have put new twists
- 3:28Speaker 2: on it but one of the requirements is that the
- 3:31Speaker 2: patient needs to be able to administer it themselves and
- 3:35Speaker 2: a lot of people are trying to add more things
- 3:39Speaker 2: into the law to make it easier for people, which
- 3:43Speaker 2: is how you get people with depression, anorexia, diabetes, being
- 3:48Speaker 2: allowed to kill themselves now.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Yeah. And I wanted to ask you, like, why is,
- 3:54Speaker 1: why do you think that is? Why is it that
- 3:57Speaker 1: if it's done that way, as opposed to when you
- 4:02Speaker 1: think of a typical suicide, it's a little more messy, right?
- 4:05Speaker 1: Or it's just The person's suddenly gone. It's not legal.
- 4:11Speaker 1: But it's literally the same thing except sterilized, if that
- 4:14Speaker 1: makes any sense. It's so different, but the same. It's just,
- 4:19Speaker 1: in a way, no one sees it. It's legal. You
- 4:23Speaker 1: can do it. But it's the same repercussions for people.
- 4:27Speaker 1: So why do you think that there seems to be
- 4:31Speaker 1: a moral switch in people's minds between suicide that we
- 4:37Speaker 1: think of Since the Dawn of Time or Euphanasia.
