- 0:07Speaker 1: Folks, welcome into the Irish Theaters Podcast as we look
- 0:10Speaker 1: back on Week seven of the NFL season and starting
- 0:13Speaker 1: looking ahead as we're getting almost at the half web
- 0:16Speaker 1: point of the regular season for the Pittsburgh Steeters.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Mike, I'm a bit Jimmy English.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Dave McKee as this the Theaters starting off with you.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Jimmy moved to four and two in the season twenty
- 0:26Speaker 1: four to seventeen, winning Sofi Stadium or in the Orchestra Stadium.
- 0:30Speaker 1: You could argue last night, and you know, it was
- 0:32Speaker 1: great to see. We're recording this on the Monday night, Jimmy,
- 0:35Speaker 1: And we'll go into sort of death from the game
- 0:37Speaker 1: in a minute. But always good to get a win,
- 0:39Speaker 1: no matter how it comes here. Moving the four and two,
- 0:43Speaker 1: I think after week one a lot of us would
- 0:45Speaker 1: have bit your arm up for that, So I'll take
- 0:47Speaker 1: it and move on. How are you doing any good?
- 0:49Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 0:49Speaker 3: Absolutely, Mick. I went to bed, they were to sleep
- 0:53Speaker 3: at a slightly later time of ten past twelve last night,
- 0:56Speaker 3: a bit beyond my bedtime, but I have to stay
- 0:58Speaker 3: up to see the Staters win, and I'm glad that
- 1:00Speaker 3: I did. And yeah, I mean it was a long,
- 1:03Speaker 3: long bi week. I don't know about you, boys, but
- 1:05Speaker 3: I missed Steelers weekend last weekend, and it was great
- 1:07Speaker 3: to get the boys back, great to get the victory
- 1:10Speaker 3: and what a what a turnout in Sofi Stadium in
- 1:13Speaker 3: La I mean, I'm fairly sure one stage they mentioned
- 1:17Speaker 3: that the Steelers fan out and actually outnumbered the Rams fans.
- 1:20Speaker 3: So that was great to see. So do you know
- 1:22Speaker 3: what for a change, I actually don't think I have
- 1:24Speaker 3: anything negative to say, So take take that and run
- 1:28Speaker 3: if you will.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I think we should like print the T shirt now
- 1:31Speaker 1: for the crack Stick with us watch party under four
- 1:35Speaker 1: weeks away. Now they have good to see as well.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I guess before we talk about the game, just achoing
- 1:39Speaker 1: what Jimmy said there. It was it was a kin
- 1:43Speaker 1: to the time that you see the Niners play the
- 1:46Speaker 1: Rams and Sofi and they call it Levi's South. It
- 1:49Speaker 1: was Pittsburgh West yesterday because it was just it was
- 1:54Speaker 1: fall of black and yeah, it's full of Steelers fans.
- 1:57Speaker 1: It was pretty cool to see, Like even whenever I
- 1:59Speaker 1: think the Rams missed a field go over, we're going
- 2:01Speaker 1: for like a point attempt at all you can see
- 2:03Speaker 1: was Steelers fans with the title. It was insane, man.
- 2:07Speaker 4: I know Phil Bott, Brad Mayer anytime he was kicking
- 2:09Speaker 4: and it was just flinging left, and I think it
- 2:11Speaker 4: was just a terrible title, just flinging that way, you know.
- 2:13Speaker 1: It was.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Actually it's it's one of those is not even not
- 2:16Speaker 4: crazy anymore because we just come to accustomed to it.
- 2:18Speaker 4: I mean, every away game is a home game, and
- 2:20Speaker 4: I was actually I was going to start by saying,
- 2:22Speaker 4: you know, every every road game win on the any NFL,
- 2:26Speaker 4: it's it's hard to come by. But we don't really
- 2:28Speaker 4: have our road game anymore.
- 2:29Speaker 2: You know.
- 2:29Speaker 4: It's just the Steelers nation that's just everywhere, and it's
- 2:32Speaker 4: it's unbelievable to say, and it's it's obviously a great
- 2:34Speaker 4: thing to be a part of. So perroud to be
- 2:36Speaker 4: a Steelers fan this morning, you know, the barly sleep
- 2:38Speaker 4: last night, just from the victory, and it was it
- 2:40Speaker 4: was just one of those things where you know, Jimmy
- 2:42Speaker 4: was saying about ten past twelve, I was up till
- 2:44Speaker 4: about temp past three. He's just reading all the reviews
- 2:46Speaker 4: and stuff and following you know, the box score and everything.
- 2:49Speaker 1: It was just great.
- 2:49Speaker 4: So hopefully we'll roll on another win, and you know
- 2:53Speaker 4: we've got three home games in a row, which is
- 2:54Speaker 4: which is great. So you know, hopefully we can get
- 2:57Speaker 4: three out of three or three out of three on
- 2:59Speaker 4: that one. So that's seeing what happens.
- 3:01Speaker 1: A big game this weekend in the battle of the
- 3:04Speaker 1: global markets for the Island of Ireland. We welcome back
- 3:07Speaker 1: to that in a minute. Jimmy obviously positive to get
- 3:11Speaker 1: a win. I guess first off, I guess we could
- 3:14Speaker 1: say it because it's actually correct. You know, generally first
- 3:16Speaker 1: three quarters of action weren't create for the Steelers. They
- 3:21Speaker 1: had just six first dins, they were one for seven
- 3:23Speaker 1: and third dons and only one hundred and ten I
- 3:26Speaker 1: think yard a total offense through the first three quarters.
- 3:30Speaker 1: How do you think the team turned that around wun
- 3:32Speaker 1: into the fourth.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Well, I think similarly to the Ravens game, it took
- 3:37Speaker 3: a spark or a moment of magic and in a
- 3:39Speaker 3: different phase of the game, and that came through who
- 3:42Speaker 3: else but TJ.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Watt.
- 3:44Speaker 3: They just give that man defensive of the defensive player
- 3:48Speaker 3: of the year right now. He is absolutely incredible. We
- 3:51Speaker 3: saw him drop back into coverage and pick off Matt Stafford,
- 3:54Speaker 3: an almost returner for the touchdown, and I think that
- 3:57Speaker 3: kind of jose to the offense to life a little bit.
- 4:00Speaker 3: I kind of gave everyone a bit of a kick
- 4:01Speaker 3: up the backside, which is great and it's exactly what
- 4:04Speaker 3: they needed. And thank god for Chris Boswell as well
- 4:07Speaker 3: for getting us our first points of the game and
- 4:09Speaker 3: keeping us in there. And then the defense was fine.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Said of the offense was finally able to do something,
- 4:15Speaker 3: and I think a large part of that was having
- 4:17Speaker 3: Deonta Johnson back. He gave Kenny Pickett another target. It
- 4:21Speaker 3: took some of the attention off George Pickens, but it
- 4:25Speaker 3: gave a different dimension to to our offense. You know,
- 4:29Speaker 3: we saw the effect of the impact Deonton Johnson had.
- 4:32Speaker 3: He looked one hundred percent. He was great, and that
- 4:36Speaker 3: allowed us to open up the running game a little
- 4:38Speaker 3: bit as well. Still not great in the run game.
- 4:40Speaker 3: I think we had a total of eighty five rushyards,
- 4:43Speaker 3: But the important thing was getting scores on the ground,
- 4:45Speaker 3: something that we haven't really seen today from the Steeds.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Great to see Agie Harris as well getting I think
- 4:50Speaker 3: that might be his first touchdown of the year. Maybe
- 4:52Speaker 3: I could be mistaken on that, but at the I
- 4:54Speaker 3: cu not, and Dave, I think I'm correct in saying that.
- 4:57Speaker 3: So look, I think overall there was a lot more
- 5:00Speaker 3: positivity and offense still not perfect, but definitely progress. And
- 5:04Speaker 3: you know you'll take that progress at this stage of
- 5:06Speaker 3: the season. And great to see Matt Cannon at getting
- 5:09Speaker 3: getting a bit a bit excited in the booth as
- 5:11Speaker 3: well when the Steelers scored. So overall, no, I'm happy
- 5:15Speaker 3: out with that.
- 5:17Speaker 1: D have just a gentleman what Jimmy said. It's it's
- 5:20Speaker 1: funny to see, like Jimmy talked about the start there,
- 5:23Speaker 1: just start of the podcast about how there was that
- 5:26Speaker 1: gap between the buy and we were waiting and waiting
- 5:28Speaker 1: and waiting for this team to get back into action.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I felt like a lifetime. But then you see the
- 5:32Speaker 1: Monday reaction across the board in the US, especially on Monday,
- 5:35Speaker 1: and Jimmy, I'm sorry, Dave rich Eisen talking about colin
- 5:40Speaker 1: the fourth quarter Kenny Pickett time. I've got the quote
- 5:43Speaker 1: from Terry Bradshaw here in Fox and saying that Kenny
- 5:46Speaker 1: Pickett does not throw for a lot of touchdowns, but
- 5:48Speaker 1: in time that he will. He is a perfect quarterback
- 5:51Speaker 1: for this team. He's a very selfish human being, great
- 5:54Speaker 1: in the clutch, great under pressure, and how impressed have
- 5:58Speaker 1: you been with just how he's been able to mind
- 6:00Speaker 1: his pressure, managed situations and games where yes, maybe some
- 6:04Speaker 1: players could take it negatively, he's turned it around and
- 6:07Speaker 1: won one games on getting the ball down the field
- 6:10Speaker 1: and do what he has to do.
- 6:12Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, his pocket poise is fantastic. I think
- 6:15Speaker 4: you know, I was actually watching an interview with with
- 6:18Speaker 4: Terry Bradshaw and he was matching about how seerful this
- 6:20Speaker 4: he is. And he goes through his progressions very very
- 6:23Speaker 4: you know, he doesn't he doesn't feel the necessarily to
- 6:26Speaker 4: take risk, but his his pocket poise is just fantastic,
- 6:29Speaker 4: just for a player in his second year. And and
- 6:32Speaker 4: you know what, it's it's been proven now he plays
- 6:34Speaker 4: his best football when it comes to the crunch time
- 6:36Speaker 4: as the fourth quarter, and he seems to always come
- 6:38Speaker 4: up with a play. You know, just even as Jimmy
- 6:41Speaker 4: was saying, it's good to have the Anty back because
- 6:43Speaker 4: you know, maybe the past couple of weeks where maybe
- 6:45Speaker 4: were land Calvin Austin for a few players, but with
- 6:48Speaker 4: George Pickins, you know, stepping up as usual with that
- 6:52Speaker 4: Deontay Johnson, you know, sacking sacking string wide receiver. Now
- 6:55Speaker 4: he was able to sort of open up routes for himself.
- 6:57Speaker 4: So just to sort of back up everything, Terry bro says,
- 7:00Speaker 4: I mean, we're not going to listen to anybody else
- 7:01Speaker 4: apart from from TV if you like the real TV.
- 7:05Speaker 4: But you know, it's pocket poisonous is something to be
- 7:09Speaker 4: old at such a young age, and you know he's
- 7:11Speaker 4: coming into his own perfect and it's the first time
- 7:14Speaker 4: after like a long time where of watched the Steelers
- 7:16Speaker 4: game and off thought offensive like, we're actually onto something here.
- 7:19Speaker 4: You know, there's been glimmers here and there throughout the season,
- 7:22Speaker 4: but I think for now it's really something we could
- 7:24Speaker 4: be excited about. It's just proven. I think we may
- 7:26Speaker 4: be worked on it throughout the bay. So you know,
- 7:28Speaker 4: it's all positive talk from here. And hopefully, you know,
- 7:31Speaker 4: we can go back and up a game next week,
- 7:32Speaker 4: you can Suggjax.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Hopefully now we won't have to rely so much of
- 7:37Speaker 3: our defense to get us going, and we can get
- 7:39Speaker 3: our offense going from the very start. And it was
- 7:41Speaker 3: great as well to see Jalen Warren and Algy compliment
- 7:44Speaker 3: each other. And I think they've really kind of embraced that.
- 7:47Speaker 3: You know what we discussed before of positively being running
- 7:50Speaker 3: back one and running back one A. I mean, I've
- 7:54Speaker 3: said it before a million times, and I'll die on
- 7:56Speaker 3: this hill. Jalen Warren is an NFL Qualities running back.
- 8:01Speaker 3: He is a starting running back and we saw that
- 8:04Speaker 3: on display last night. I mean there was He's just
- 8:06Speaker 3: I mean, I could go on and on, but he
- 8:08Speaker 3: had one key block where he absolutely blew up a
- 8:10Speaker 3: defensive lineman and the fellas five eight and one hundred
- 8:13Speaker 3: and ninety pounds like he's tiny relatively speaking for an
- 8:17Speaker 3: NFL running back. So yeah, no, I mean, just fantastic
- 8:21Speaker 3: stuff in general across the board, and hopefully it can
- 8:24Speaker 3: continue now and we bring it into the game next
- 8:26Speaker 3: week against the Jags.
- 8:28Speaker 1: And Jimmy it was a crucial to end the sense
- 8:31Speaker 1: of we all seen how the Ravens played and how
- 8:33Speaker 1: well they played to win that game. The Browns had
- 8:36Speaker 1: a serious game thirty nine to thirty in Indianapolis. But
- 8:39Speaker 1: the Steelers continue to put the pressure on and the
- 8:42Speaker 1: Bengals sitting at hum going, oh year, this is some division, man.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean I honestly, at the start of the
- 8:50Speaker 3: season after what happened. We won't talk about that. We've
- 8:53Speaker 3: forgotten about what happened a week one. I mean, we
- 8:56Speaker 3: were sitting here going what kind of chance do we
- 8:59Speaker 3: have in the AFC, And now we're second in the
- 9:01Speaker 3: AC North. But I think that the tougher matchups are ahead. Obviously,
- 9:06Speaker 3: we're gonna have the Bengals twice, and we're gonna have
- 9:08Speaker 3: that rematch with the Ravens, which you think are gonna
- 9:10Speaker 3: be absolutely I think, as far as I'm concerned, every
- 9:14Speaker 3: game from here on out is a must win game.
- 9:17Speaker 3: And if we won't have any chance of get finishing
- 9:20Speaker 3: first or second and possibly getting into the playoffs, we're
- 9:23Speaker 3: gonna have to We're gonna have to run the table.
- 9:25Speaker 3: And you know that's that's just that's just the way
- 9:28Speaker 3: it is in this in this competitive landscape in the division.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Dave, I've been very complimentary to start the season off
- 9:35Speaker 1: with puking the coup for the Rams. I think he's
- 9:38Speaker 1: really added something to this, just to this Rams team
- 9:40Speaker 1: when a lot of people died of them, and he
- 9:43Speaker 1: came out and said after the game and suddeny that
- 9:45Speaker 1: he felt that the defense for the Steelers didn't really
- 9:48Speaker 1: restrict the Rams to practically anything. Now, he might be
- 9:51Speaker 1: able to say that because he had one hundred and
- 9:53Speaker 1: like one hundred and fifty forty yards receiving on the day,
- 9:56Speaker 1: which fair played at him. That was an excellent turnaround
- 9:58Speaker 1: for him. But I would argue are that. I mean,
- 10:01Speaker 1: the Steelers defense Obviously was talked there about TJ. Watts play,
- 10:04Speaker 1: but the Steelers defense limited the Rams seventeen points at home,
- 10:07Speaker 1: where they've been a hard team to feel so far
- 10:09Speaker 1: this season at home. I don't think the defense, though
- 10:13Speaker 1: not bad. Obviously, there's always going to be things to improve.
- 10:16Speaker 1: I was surprised at his comments, to be honest.
- 10:17Speaker 4: With Yeah, it was a bit surprising considered you know
- 10:22Speaker 4: Joey Porter Jr. Once Joey Porter Junior, who got matched
- 10:25Speaker 4: up with him. He had three targets and he didn't
- 10:27Speaker 4: catch a single ball. I mean, I don't really know
- 10:29Speaker 4: what he's talking, but there, of course, he had a
- 10:31Speaker 4: fantastic game. You know, he got catched on the sideline.
- 10:33Speaker 4: I think was one of the best catches I've seen
- 10:35Speaker 4: all year. But then, and of course he's a great talent.
- 10:39Speaker 4: But you know, if you look at it, you know,
- 10:40Speaker 4: with Kipper Cups on the other side, and we were
- 10:42Speaker 4: able to strict him pretty well. You know, as Jimmy said,
- 10:44Speaker 4: with TJ Wats coming up with the big play. You know,
- 10:47Speaker 4: TJ had a pretty quat game, didn't record any sacks,
- 10:49Speaker 4: but he came up with a big interception which was
- 10:51Speaker 4: really turned the tight So as well as that, you know,
- 10:54Speaker 4: we we prevented them from scoring on three straight draves
- 10:57Speaker 4: in the fourth quarter. So not only is the offense
- 11:00Speaker 4: starting to pick up in the fourth quarter, but the
- 11:01Speaker 4: defense has proven clutch as well. So you know, he
- 11:03Speaker 4: can have his opinion and stuff like that, but at
- 11:05Speaker 4: the end of the day, the only thing that matters
- 11:07Speaker 4: is we got the win, and you know we're on
- 11:09Speaker 4: and moving moving on up next. And you know, for
- 11:12Speaker 4: a player then they're they're pretty good offense. But at
- 11:14Speaker 4: the same time, you know, we've got a great defense
- 11:16Speaker 4: and we're gonna score up with hell if anybody. So yeah,
- 11:18Speaker 4: it's it is what it is. But yeah, we're we're
- 11:21Speaker 4: onwards and upwards. We don't have to worry about that.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Just to round this up, Jimmy, I feel like I
- 11:26Speaker 1: have to say it, I mean in the best way
- 11:28Speaker 1: positive Sometimes It's nice to get the rubb of the green,
- 11:31Speaker 1: especially at the end there of the game. I was
- 11:34Speaker 1: laughing last night when I see it, But look, some
- 11:36Speaker 1: teams always get up, but like a little rubble of green,
- 11:38Speaker 1: I felt like it was it was definitely our time
- 11:41Speaker 1: to get at seven weeks end of the season.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, obviously, it's you never you know, you
- 11:49Speaker 3: never like to win where it might be judged to
- 11:52Speaker 3: have being a decision going your way. But that's just
- 11:54Speaker 3: the major of the game. You're gonna get some decisions
- 11:56Speaker 3: that go with you, something that go against you. And
- 11:59Speaker 3: in this instant it's okay, hard luck to the Rams,
- 12:01Speaker 3: but the Steelers had the look in this game, and
- 12:05Speaker 3: we'll take it. You know, there was you know, there's
- 12:08Speaker 3: there was there was a couple of things that did
- 12:10Speaker 3: go away in a couple of Brett Maher and miss kicks,
- 12:15Speaker 3: and that also, you know, overall contributed to to a
- 12:19Speaker 3: Steelers victory. So we'll take it and we'll run and
- 12:22Speaker 3: we'll we'll look forward to to the to the next
- 12:24Speaker 3: week against the Jags.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Take it and run them on. Take it and run.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Before we look at the Jogs briefly this week, let's
- 12:32Speaker 1: listen to some of the feedback from both coaches and
- 12:35Speaker 1: players after the win in Sobay Stadium on Sunday. We'll
- 12:38Speaker 1: hear from coach Tomlin first and then we'll hear from TJ.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Watt and can you pick it on the Irish Sivers podcast.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Man.
- 12:46Speaker 5: First, let me say, man, it's just great to see
- 12:49Speaker 5: some Steeler alumni man and have their support Man Troy, James, Ferrier,
- 12:56Speaker 5: Joe Hayden. Just warms my heart to see those guys.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Man.
- 13:00Speaker 5: Thankful for their support and attendance. In regards to the game, man,
- 13:05Speaker 5: you know, it's a fight. It always is a fight.
- 13:08Speaker 5: Sometimes it's, you know, man versus himself. Sometimes it's man
- 13:12Speaker 5: versus opponent. I thought we shout ourselves in the foot
- 13:15Speaker 5: some on possession down play on both sides of the ball.
- 13:19Speaker 5: I'm gotta be more successful on possession downs if you
- 13:22Speaker 5: want more fluidity and the engineer and the victory. And
- 13:25Speaker 5: there wasn't enough fluidity probably to the first two and
- 13:27Speaker 5: a half quarters really on either side. I think on
- 13:31Speaker 5: defense we lost two third and eleven's in the first half.
- 13:34Speaker 5: And whether or not it produces points, there's a field
- 13:36Speaker 5: position component and a time of possession component of it,
- 13:41Speaker 5: and so that's why it was uneven and uncomfortable at
- 13:45Speaker 5: times from our perspective. But I appreciate the fight that
- 13:49Speaker 5: the guys displayed. They gotta don't blink mentality. Obviously, we
- 13:53Speaker 5: got to clean up some things from a management of
- 13:56Speaker 5: our emotions, but I would much rather say wode than
- 13:58Speaker 5: sick them. We got some guys that are competitors. They
- 14:02Speaker 5: just got to compete in the appropriate and mature and
- 14:04Speaker 5: professional way. We'll use it as a learning experience. Is
- 14:07Speaker 5: good to learn while sitting at four and two as
- 14:10Speaker 5: opposed to three and three. Cole Hookum had an ankle injury,
- 14:15Speaker 5: but he was able to return. We got some other
- 14:17Speaker 5: bumps and bruises associated with play. But I just love
- 14:23Speaker 5: to fight in this group. They don't blake, man, They
- 14:26Speaker 5: cut their eyelids off.
- 14:27Speaker 3: Man.
- 14:27Speaker 5: They go at it, and it is, like I told them,
- 14:31Speaker 5: it's not a compliment, it's required. I'm just acknowledging that
- 14:36Speaker 5: we better be prepared to fight every time we step
- 14:38Speaker 5: into a stadium, man, because that's what the National Football
- 14:41Speaker 5: League is about. So our pause and rope clup for questions.
- 14:46Speaker 5: I don't know that anything changed. I just think that
- 14:49Speaker 5: you know they were possessing the ball and we weren't.
- 14:52Speaker 5: I think, as I outlined, we didn't win enough early
- 14:55Speaker 5: third downs. They were winning too many, and even like
- 14:58Speaker 5: third and long, third and eleven, I think they can
- 15:00Speaker 5: two of them in the first half. I thought that
- 15:02Speaker 5: one that they converted, I think it was third and
- 15:04Speaker 5: four to get somebody on a shallow cross that produced
- 15:07Speaker 5: a two minute touchdown drive. We had a chance to
- 15:09Speaker 5: get off the field right there. When you're not getting
- 15:12Speaker 5: off the field, you can talk about uneven performances of
- 15:16Speaker 5: individuals and units and so forth. Any of those questions
- 15:20Speaker 5: can be directed toward our inability to operate on possession
- 15:23Speaker 5: downs on both sides of the ball through the first
- 15:25Speaker 5: probably two and a half quarters.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's a four quarter game.
- 15:32Speaker 6: We understand as a defense we need to blow up
- 15:34Speaker 6: in big time moments and just try to change the
- 15:37Speaker 6: tide of the game and stopping the runners again in
- 15:39Speaker 6: the issue today. But anytime you can get some sort
- 15:43Speaker 6: of spark UH to get us going UH and be
- 15:46Speaker 6: able to have us start continuing to play good football
- 15:48Speaker 6: late in games, I feel like we're gonna we just
- 15:50Speaker 6: need to continue to progress and go off of it
- 15:53Speaker 6: a couple.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Of football lots of the second half kind of ways
- 15:57Speaker 1: you get to turn.
- 15:57Speaker 3: On one of the offense.
- 15:59Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, we don't care where the spark comes from.
- 16:01Speaker 6: We just want to get that spark so it allows
- 16:03Speaker 6: us to get going. We don't want to be that
- 16:04Speaker 6: team that starts games slow, start second half slow. It's
- 16:07Speaker 6: important to come out strong and hopefully shut down some
- 16:10Speaker 6: things early so that you don't see him again later
- 16:12Speaker 6: in the game.
- 16:15Speaker 7: I think it was it was both, you know, they're
- 16:17Speaker 7: a man. I feel like, you know, it was a
- 16:18Speaker 7: really good route for him. He's a great route runner,
- 16:20Speaker 7: get separation, just want to give him a chance to
- 16:23Speaker 7: convert on third down.
- 16:24Speaker 2: It was great to have him back.
- 16:25Speaker 7: I think you saw the effects that have, you know,
- 16:27Speaker 7: having him and George out there on both sides and
- 16:29Speaker 7: kind of moving guys inside and out.
- 16:31Speaker 2: You know, they're two tough guys to cover. What kind
- 16:33Speaker 2: of the group did you feel like, you guys run
- 16:35Speaker 2: into that fourth quarter.
- 16:36Speaker 7: Of those playing the type of football we want to play,
- 16:38Speaker 7: you know, that's what we've been working towards. And I
- 16:40Speaker 7: think the run game balance the pass game really well.
- 16:43Speaker 7: It was it was kind of you know, everything that
- 16:44Speaker 7: we've been working towards. You started to see it in
- 16:46Speaker 7: that fourth quarter. There was good to good to see.
- 16:48Speaker 5: We've seen this all year.
- 16:49Speaker 3: We struggled a little bit for three quarters. Matter out
- 16:52Speaker 3: standing in the fourth.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Was playing playing football, man. I mean it's not gonna
- 16:58Speaker 2: be smooth all the time. They got a pretty good
- 16:59Speaker 2: de fense.
- 17:00Speaker 7: They were getting after us a little bit, you know
- 17:02Speaker 7: in the past game, you know, getting some hits and
- 17:05Speaker 7: I was trying to get the ball as fast as
- 17:06Speaker 7: I could. But you know, I think it's just over time,
- 17:09Speaker 7: you know, wearing down in the run game, how the
- 17:10Speaker 7: pass came out.
- 17:12Speaker 2: We got to keep having that balance.
- 17:13Speaker 3: Think of your.
- 17:17Speaker 2: They did a great job, great job.
- 17:18Speaker 7: You know that we had a goal of not letting
- 17:20Speaker 7: him wreck the game, you know, trying to do everything
- 17:22Speaker 7: we can of of of sliding guys and doubling him,
- 17:25Speaker 7: getting four hands on him as many times as possible,
- 17:28Speaker 7: if not, you know, all the time.
- 17:29Speaker 2: So that was that was a goal of ours. I
- 17:31Speaker 2: think those guys at an unbelievable.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Job with the first three guys to face.
- 17:36Speaker 2: We have some experience in it. We've played some pretty
- 17:38Speaker 2: good pass rushers.
- 17:39Speaker 7: Man. It doesn't get easier we go against the I
- 17:42Speaker 7: think the best every day and practice, so it's it's
- 17:46Speaker 7: good to have ninety on our side to help us
- 17:48Speaker 7: give those looks of of of what we should do
- 17:50Speaker 7: and how we should plan when you're going against guys
- 17:52Speaker 7: that you know can wreck the game and can change
- 17:55Speaker 7: the game as a pass rusher.
- 17:57Speaker 3: How about it to play He made it to start
- 17:59Speaker 3: the second.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Half, sparked us. Yeah, it just does what he does.
- 18:02Speaker 7: And he always says like it takes one play to
- 18:04Speaker 7: to spark it, and you know, majority of the time
- 18:07Speaker 7: it's him making the plays. And you know, hell of
- 18:09Speaker 7: the leader, hell of a player, got us going. Glad
- 18:11Speaker 7: we got in the end zone there and finished out
- 18:14Speaker 7: in the fourth quarter stand on the field, which I
- 18:15Speaker 7: was proud of. That was something that we didn't do
- 18:17Speaker 7: earlier in the season, but was being a four minute drill,
- 18:20Speaker 7: finish on the on the field and let our defense.
- 18:22Speaker 2: You know, kind of sit and relax on the sideline.
- 18:24Speaker 2: That's what that's what we wanted. So that was good.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Okay Coach thom and t J Watt can he pick it?
- 18:31Speaker 1: On the Irish Evers podcast. After a huge win the
- 18:34Speaker 1: Texas Theaters four and two in the season, the AFC
- 18:37Speaker 1: North well look in contention for the division and we're
- 18:40Speaker 1: absolutely buzzing. I'm Jimmy, I'll start with you, man, I
- 18:44Speaker 1: am buzzing about this week. Not only is it the
- 18:47Speaker 1: game coming up that will briefly look at I will
- 18:49Speaker 1: hopefully be back at some point this week to go
- 18:52Speaker 1: in that a bit more detail on it, but it's
- 18:54Speaker 1: the matchup of the two teams that have Irish marketing
- 18:57Speaker 1: rights trying to get obviously hope and the Steelers come
- 19:00Speaker 1: out on top of this game, Steelers against the Jags,
- 19:04Speaker 1: a big potential marker to get a fifth win of
- 19:06Speaker 1: the season going into the later the later autumn months
- 19:11Speaker 1: and just of the season. But Jimmy, first off, you
- 19:14Speaker 1: know this is a Jags team that looked really good.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Now.
- 19:18Speaker 1: I know it was on and off on on Thurst
- 19:21Speaker 1: Night Football last week against the Saints, but like a
- 19:24Speaker 1: number of us, including Steelers fans, seeing the Jags in
- 19:27Speaker 1: person in London, they've really improved year on year. Trevor
- 19:31Speaker 1: Lawrence was great. Let's be clear here. They're going to
- 19:34Speaker 1: come into this game on Sunday with a lot of expectation.
- 19:38Speaker 1: They're going to feel like they can go to Pittsburgh
- 19:40Speaker 1: and get a result. They were in London for two weeks.
- 19:42Speaker 1: They'll have a lot of confidence and it's going to
- 19:44Speaker 1: be up to our defense to just shut down Trevor Lawrence.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Shut down not only a run game, but a very
- 19:49Speaker 1: efficient passing game. Also.
- 19:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's going to be a challenge, Michael,
- 19:56Speaker 3: if not more of a challenge than certainly this same
- 20:00Speaker 3: level of challenges we face against the Rams. We do
- 20:03Speaker 3: have home field advantage, which I think is going to
- 20:04Speaker 3: be very important for us. And it's like you said,
- 20:07Speaker 3: I mean, there's no real easy weeks in the NFL
- 20:11Speaker 3: anymore with the talent that you're coming up against. So yeah,
- 20:14Speaker 3: we just just contain Trevor Lawrence, contained the talented and
- 20:18Speaker 3: the talent that they have. To be honest, I haven't
- 20:20Speaker 3: really been keeping that much of a close eye on
- 20:23Speaker 3: the Jags this year, but I feel like, like I
- 20:25Speaker 3: said earlier, every game is going to be a must
- 20:27Speaker 3: wing game here on in, and like Dave mentioned earlier on,
- 20:31Speaker 3: we now have a run of three home games in
- 20:33Speaker 3: a row, which I think we have to fully capitalize on.
- 20:37Speaker 3: Every game is a must wing game. I mean, we're
- 20:39Speaker 3: on a two game winning street now since that disaster
- 20:42Speaker 3: Dan in Houston. So I think it's just a case
- 20:44Speaker 3: of carrying that momentum, letting the defense do what they've
- 20:47Speaker 3: been doing best, which is shutting down corner, shutting down
- 20:50Speaker 3: you know, receivers stuff in the box, and making splash plays. Dave,
- 20:55Speaker 3: you mentioned that TJ didn't have a sack. I don't
- 20:58Speaker 3: think neither of our edge rusher had a stack against
- 21:00Speaker 3: the Rams, which now they were constantly harassing Staffer, and
- 21:04Speaker 3: they certainly had an impact in the game. They mightn't
- 21:06Speaker 3: have gone home, but you can still see the impact
- 21:09Speaker 3: that TJ has when he even when he's not getting
- 21:11Speaker 3: through the quarterback, he's causing havoc. So I think all
- 21:14Speaker 3: those things are going to be vital against the Jaguars.
- 21:18Speaker 3: It's an earlier game, which I'm glad about it. I
- 21:19Speaker 3: think it's five o'clock over here due to the best
- 21:22Speaker 3: of the year, Jimmy. The changeover week is is always great.
- 21:26Speaker 3: So yeah, I mean, I think those are a couple
- 21:27Speaker 3: of key things. Michael, just Steelers need to keep doing
- 21:30Speaker 3: what they've been doing and just building all the momentum
- 21:32Speaker 3: that we have that we have generated over the over
- 21:35Speaker 3: the past two weeks.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Yeah, just going on what Jimmy said their day, we're
- 21:40Speaker 1: a little closer this week to Pittsburgh on the East
- 21:42Speaker 1: coast of the US once these clocks changed for us
- 21:45Speaker 1: this weekend only four hours away. I wish they'd done
- 21:48Speaker 1: it for two or three weeks, because fans over here,
- 21:50Speaker 1: you know, regardless of the Steelers play, really benefit of
- 21:53Speaker 1: those early times Sunday and football on early this week
- 21:56Speaker 1: as well. So it's it's definitely nice for the fans
- 21:58Speaker 1: and you just going what Jimmy said, three home games.
- 22:01Speaker 1: The next game away from home will be that Browns
- 22:03Speaker 1: game that will all be in Krok Park and Dublin
- 22:05Speaker 1: at the watch party at and you know, look it's
- 22:08Speaker 1: the Jags. I sort of that what Jimmy says. I think, Dave,
- 22:12Speaker 1: it is going to be a difficult game in the
- 22:13Speaker 1: sense of you look at some of the offensive weapons
- 22:17Speaker 1: that they have, like Calvin Ridley in person is just
- 22:21Speaker 1: it's phenomenal, honestly, and the way that they took it
- 22:23Speaker 1: up against the Bills. I know the Bills have had
- 22:25Speaker 1: their struggles since coming from London, but I really feel
- 22:29Speaker 1: like this is going to be one of the hardest
- 22:31Speaker 1: challenges that we feel so far this season. But I
- 22:33Speaker 1: do remain optimistic that I think that this winning so
- 22:35Speaker 1: far will really help spur the team on. All we
- 22:38Speaker 1: need to know is just that consistency from this team
- 22:40Speaker 1: and just getting the performance and Sunday one.
- 22:43Speaker 4: Yeah, no, absolutely, without a dot MC, they're a great team. Obviously,
- 22:47Speaker 4: you don't really need to talk about Travor Lards much. He's,
- 22:50Speaker 4: in my opinion, your top five, arguably top he's easily
- 22:53Speaker 4: top ten, but arguably top five quarterback in this league.
- 22:56Speaker 4: Calvin Ridley's a great receiver, Za Jones as well. You've
- 22:59Speaker 4: got to have an anger but tight end. We've got
- 23:00Speaker 4: so many great pieces on the offensive set of the
- 23:04Speaker 4: ball on their defense has traditionally always been pretty decent.
- 23:07Speaker 4: So just to you know, obviously come back and as well,
- 23:10Speaker 4: we've we've got an extra r on them this week.
- 23:12Speaker 4: You know, we've got the Titans next week as well
- 23:14Speaker 4: on prime time, so we'll hopefully get them stay up
- 23:15Speaker 4: for that there. And but as well as that, you know,
- 23:18Speaker 4: we're not gonna look past Jackson though. They're they're great
- 23:20Speaker 4: team and hopefully we can just roll on from from
- 23:23Speaker 4: last week all the positivity and all the you know,
- 23:25Speaker 4: the positive players we had on all offense, we can
- 23:27Speaker 4: just roll into next week and hopefully come off of
- 23:29Speaker 4: a win. So let's let's hope. So and you know,
- 23:32Speaker 4: I have every trust in the boys.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Can do it.
- 23:34Speaker 3: I think one thing as well that we've that we've
- 23:37Speaker 3: done relatively well since Week one where Joey but or
- 23:40Speaker 3: Nick bos A had a field day, is containing the
- 23:44Speaker 3: top tier edge rushers that the teams we've faced have.
- 23:47Speaker 3: I mean, look at Aaron Donald last night. I mean,
- 23:50Speaker 3: his name was barely called.
- 23:51Speaker 5: Now.
- 23:51Speaker 3: He's certainly had an impact in stuff in the middle
- 23:53Speaker 3: and disrupting the run game, but I don't think he
- 23:55Speaker 3: got home at all. I think it was hect got
- 23:57Speaker 3: home a couple of times. So if we can do
- 23:59Speaker 3: the same thing with with Josh Allen and the Jaguars,
- 24:03Speaker 3: I mean, and that's something that we've been doing for
- 24:06Speaker 3: the majority of the season thus far, I think that's
- 24:08Speaker 3: gonna be another kind of key thing to watch out
- 24:10Speaker 3: for is how well we did it against the Raiders
- 24:12Speaker 3: of Max Crosby. Max Crowby had a very quiet day.
- 24:15Speaker 3: So that's something that I think has kind of slipped
- 24:17Speaker 3: under the Raider a little bit this season. So far
- 24:19Speaker 3: is how well this new look offensive line has performed.
- 24:23Speaker 3: I mean, the majority of the season are far. They
- 24:27Speaker 3: have kept Kenny relatively upright. Okay, the run game hasn't
- 24:30Speaker 3: been fantastic, but I think that's showing flashes, especially after
- 24:35Speaker 3: last night with a couple of decent runs that we
- 24:38Speaker 3: have that we did have. So yeah, just something that
- 24:41Speaker 3: I might be watching out for next week is is
- 24:43Speaker 3: how well how well our offensive nine handles handles Josh
- 24:46Speaker 3: Allen the other Josh Allen, not the quarterback, the defensive end.
- 24:51Speaker 1: You're all good, Josh Allen, Josh Allen, I keep getting
- 24:54Speaker 1: next up. This solf man look really enjoyed talking talking
- 24:57Speaker 1: to you boys. I feel like we're really on a
- 24:59Speaker 1: journey this season is how this team can go and
- 25:01Speaker 1: very very positive to hear different things. And I have
- 25:05Speaker 1: got a number of different questions from people for the podcast,
- 25:09Speaker 1: and also I know that we're going to ask people
- 25:12Speaker 1: to use the hashtags Steelers Ireland. We will use those
- 25:15Speaker 1: questions on the later podcast this weekend. We want to
- 25:19Speaker 1: thank you everybody for listening. We've back later on in
- 25:21Speaker 1: the week, maybe with some game picks and some crack
- 25:23Speaker 1: as well.
- 25:24Speaker 2: For now here, we go. Thank you so much, folks.
- 25:26Speaker 1: You can follow us at Steelers Ireland on x, on
- 25:29Speaker 1: Instagram and TikTok Chadson Folks, here we go.
