- 0:00Welcome to Global Infrastructure Today. We're
- 0:03starting with a major development in Dubai's
- 0:06push for water security. Indeed, Alex, the Haciem
- 0:10desalination plant just hit a major milestone.
- 0:13Right. His Excellency Saeed Al -Tayyar, the head
- 0:16of Dubai's Electricity and Water Authority, was
- 0:19on site to inspect the first phase. Okay. And,
- 0:22well, that phase is now confirmed to be 90 %
- 0:25complete. And the scale of this, I mean, this
- 0:28undertaking is just staggering. It is. We're
- 0:31talking about one of the world's largest seawater
- 0:34reverse osmosis projects. Yeah. It's backed by
- 0:37an investment of, what is it, over 3 billion
- 0:40deer humps? And, you know, it's a landmark project
- 0:42for another reason, too. Hmm? This is actually
- 0:45Diwa's very first venture as an independent water
- 0:49producer. Wow. But the real story, as you mentioned,
- 0:53is the technology at its heart, reverse osmosis.
- 0:57Yeah, let's break that down. Because for our
- 0:59listeners, this isn't just some, you know, technical
- 1:01detail. It's really about sustainability. Exactly.
- 1:05RO technology uses significantly less energy
- 1:08than the traditional distillation plants. Right.
- 1:12And that is a huge game changer for reducing
- 1:15the carbon footprint of water production. Precisely.
- 1:18It aligns perfectly with Dubai's integrated water
- 1:21resources management strategy. So this isn't
- 1:24just about making more water, it's about making
- 1:26it smarter and, you know, greener. And the plant
- 1:29is on track for full completion by, I think,
- 1:32the first quarter of 2027. And the ambition,
- 1:35it doesn't stop there. I mean, this is just one
- 1:38piece of a much larger vision, isn't it? Absolutely.
- 1:41The goal is to add an incredible 240 million
- 1:44imperial gallons per day to Dubai's capacity
- 1:47by 2030. Wow. And the ultimate aim is, well,
- 1:51it's nothing short of revolutionary. Okay. They
- 1:54want to produce 100%, 100 % of the city's desalinated
- 1:59water using a mix of clean energy and recovered
- 2:02waste heat. It's a powerful example, really,
- 2:05of using technology to build a more resilient
- 2:08and sustainable future. Now, here's a question
- 2:11we'd like you to think about. As our world's
- 2:14cities continue to grow, how can technology help
- 2:17us not just meet rising demand, but fundamentally
- 2:20change our relationship with essential resources,
- 2:23like water?
