- 0:26Speaker 1: season I've been asking that the New Orleans Saints get
- 0:30Speaker 1: younger and less expensive, and Mickey Loomis continues to shoot
- 0:39Speaker 1: me the figurative.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Bird like double bird right in the face.
- 0:49Speaker 1: You can't see it right here behind my hand because
- 0:51Speaker 1: I can't put that on TV YouTube.
- 0:53Speaker 2: I could. You've ever seen whiskey wine? You know that much?
- 0:57Speaker 1: That's Mickey take that scone. Not sure if you've seen.
- 1:03Speaker 1: But the Saints put out a tweet earlier, and as
- 1:06Speaker 1: Brandon Cooks doing his archer thing in a Saints uniform,
- 1:10Speaker 1: a short time later, we get the word that the
- 1:13Speaker 1: New Orleans Saints have in fact brought Brandon Cooks back
- 1:19Speaker 1: to the Big easy two years thirteen million dollar deal
- 1:24Speaker 1: for Cooks to come back to New Orleans. A time
- 1:28Speaker 1: when you want to see this team, this organization move on,
- 1:34Speaker 1: they just continue to live in the past. Team needing
- 1:37Speaker 1: to get younger and less expensive, signs a thirty one
- 1:41Speaker 1: year old wide receiver who played in just ten games
- 1:46Speaker 1: last year because he had a knee infection. Because that's
- 1:49Speaker 1: super normal with healthy young people. Yet that doesn't qualify
- 1:54Speaker 1: as getting younger and less expensive. It's the opposite of that.
- 2:04Speaker 1: You know, I'm not gonna hold Brandon Cooks's exit back
- 2:08Speaker 1: in twenty seventeen against him. Now, Remember he had the
- 2:15Speaker 1: sort of now infamous closed mouths, don't get fed line,
- 2:21Speaker 1: sort of complaining about his lack of productivity in the offense.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Never mind the fact that he had over eleven hundred
- 2:27Speaker 1: receiving yards that season. It was eight years ago, he
- 2:33Speaker 1: was twenty three years old. He was a young guy
- 2:35Speaker 1: who was looking toward his second contract as a first
- 2:38Speaker 1: round pick. You the Saints had drafted Michael Thomas.
- 2:42Speaker 2: I get it.
- 2:43Speaker 1: I'm not It's not this thing where I'm gonna go.
- 2:46Speaker 1: I don't want him back now because of what happened then,
- 2:47Speaker 1: and quite honestly, you traded him to New England. That
- 2:50Speaker 1: netted you Ryan Ramchick, who became the best right tackle
- 2:52Speaker 1: in football, and you had a great run after that.
- 2:55Speaker 1: So by gones, be bygones, all that stuff. I think
- 3:01Speaker 1: with Brandon Cooks, there's a couple of very obvious questions
- 3:04Speaker 1: you have to ask. Number One, he has been a
- 3:07Speaker 1: journeyman around this league despite being a pretty productive player.
- 3:10Speaker 1: And it is very fair to wonder why, Like why
- 3:15Speaker 1: has Brandon Cooks not really ever been able to settle
- 3:20Speaker 1: in a spot despite his productivity, Like the Saints used
- 3:23Speaker 1: a first round pick on him and they dealt him
- 3:25Speaker 1: away in his prime after three seasons. New England traded
- 3:30Speaker 1: a first round pick for him. He was in New
- 3:32Speaker 1: England for one year, by the way, the year they
- 3:35Speaker 1: played the Eagles in the Super Bowl and loss on
- 3:38Speaker 1: the Philly Special, Cooks was on that New England team.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Then they trade him to the Rams. He's in LA
- 3:47Speaker 1: with the Rams in twenty eighteen. He was on the
- 3:48Speaker 1: Rams team with the Nolan Nokal played in the Super
- 3:51Speaker 1: Bowl that year with the Rams when they lost incidentally
- 3:53Speaker 1: to New England. But he spent eighteen to nineteen with
- 3:57Speaker 1: the Rams and then they traded him to Houston, and
- 4:01Speaker 1: so then he does spend three years in Houston and
- 4:03Speaker 1: then the last two years in Dallas. And you know,
- 4:07Speaker 1: his first two years in Houston, he was a thousand
- 4:10Speaker 1: yard receiver. The production dipped, he only played thirteen games
- 4:12Speaker 1: in twenty twenty two, goes to Dallas and you've just
- 4:15Speaker 1: seen the production nose dive just just over six hundred
- 4:18Speaker 1: yards receiving in twenty twenty three. This past year, as
- 4:20Speaker 1: I mentioned, played in just ten games. His skill set
- 4:27Speaker 1: throughout his career. When you think about Brandon Cooks and like,
- 4:33Speaker 1: what the thing is that he does very well, It's
- 4:35Speaker 1: the deep threat, right, It's the big playability. It's the
- 4:38Speaker 1: over the you beat you over the top with the
- 4:40Speaker 1: elites beat. I mean all the way back to his
- 4:42Speaker 1: time at Oregon State when he won the Billetnikoff. You know,
- 4:46Speaker 1: he came into the league with New Orleans as a rookie,
- 4:49Speaker 1: averaged ten point four yards per reception. After that thirteen five, fifteen, oh, sixteen, six,
- 4:57Speaker 1: fifteen one, thirteen nine, fourteen two's a big play waiting
- 5:00Speaker 1: to happen. Last year ten yards per catch, lowest of
- 5:03Speaker 1: his career, lowest receiving yard total of his career at
- 5:07Speaker 1: two fifty nine lowis yards per catch, fewest games played,
- 5:13Speaker 1: and the Saints.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Like, yeah, oh yeah, Brendan Cooks the archer guy. Yeah,
- 5:21Speaker 2: two years thirteen mil.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Come on, wait, but you know, like his whole thing
- 5:27Speaker 1: is he's a deep threat guy, and the last three
- 5:31Speaker 1: years his production is stare stepped down. And last year
- 5:33Speaker 1: he had the fewest yards and fewest yards per catch
- 5:36Speaker 1: of his entire career, fewest receptions, like all of it,
- 5:38Speaker 1: career lows and everything, games played, all of it.
- 5:42Speaker 2: I don't worry about. That's Brendan Coox.
- 5:45Speaker 1: We drafted him speaking a witch and he put a
- 5:49Speaker 1: scene with Kenny Vaccaro lateley.
- 5:51Speaker 2: We'll see. I'm bringing him back in here anyway.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Hey, hey, Jeff Fire, you got a number for Stefan Anthony.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Let's get him on the phone, Sheldon Rykins.
- 6:03Speaker 1: He's still in the league, right, Maybe we could trade
- 6:06Speaker 1: a first round.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Pick for him. You get the whole band back together.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Man can't believe we let Peyton Turner get away. Reunion
- 6:13Speaker 2: of all.
- 6:13Speaker 1: The first round picks. I mean, the other part of
- 6:20Speaker 1: this that makes no sense is you have a guy
- 6:28Speaker 1: who is a younger version of Brandon.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Cooks, Rashid Shaheeds still on your team?
- 6:35Speaker 1: Is he not?
- 6:38Speaker 2: Like? What are we actually doing here?
- 6:40Speaker 1: I understand Shaheed's coming off of an injury, but all
- 6:44Speaker 1: indications are that he's gonna be healthy to go for
- 6:47Speaker 1: this year. And he's not thirty one years old coming
- 6:52Speaker 1: off an injury and the least productive season of his career.
- 6:58Speaker 2: I mean, Shaheed.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Last year, Shaheed last year before the injury was averaging
- 7:10Speaker 1: seventeen and a half yards of catch. Uh. I don't
- 7:18Speaker 1: know what this team is doing, y'all. I don't know.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I mean, I know what they're doing. I just don't
- 7:23Speaker 1: know why they're doing it. They very clearly have the
- 7:26Speaker 1: philosophy of win now, and they're trying to spend money
- 7:30Speaker 1: to bring in players that are gonna help them win now.
- 7:33Speaker 1: I just don't see, and neither does anyone else. By
- 7:36Speaker 1: the way, how any of this is helping you win now?
- 7:42Speaker 1: How is adding How is overpaying for a thirty one
- 7:47Speaker 1: year old wide receiver coming off the least productive year
- 7:51Speaker 1: of his career where he missed seven games because of
- 7:53Speaker 1: a knee infection. How is that helping you win now
- 7:58Speaker 1: or in the future. It just doesn't make sense a
- 8:03Speaker 1: lick what they're doing. I know what they're trying to do.
- 8:06Speaker 1: That very clearly their actions are screaming, we are trying
- 8:10Speaker 1: to win now. But how is adding thirty one year
- 8:15Speaker 1: old Brandon Cooks helping you win now? You're just not
- 8:24Speaker 1: a good roster. And all of these deals that you're
- 8:28Speaker 1: doing have been made possible by reworking your salary cap
- 8:35Speaker 1: to free up cash to be able to spend now
- 8:39Speaker 1: on a team that's not gonna win a damn thing.
- 8:43Speaker 1: And the long term cost of that is you're screwing
- 8:46Speaker 1: up your cat for future years. Like if you were
- 8:49Speaker 1: doing it, like if you had gone and gotten Aaron
- 8:53Speaker 1: Rodgers and felt like this year and felt like, all right,
- 8:55Speaker 1: we got a shot. We got one, we got one
- 8:57Speaker 1: bite at the apple, we got one swing. Okay, go
- 9:01Speaker 1: take your hack. But if you think that building this
- 9:07Speaker 1: roster around Derek Carr by overpaying Juwan Johnson and overpaying
- 9:15Speaker 1: for Brandon Cooks and bringing Justin Reid in, like that's
- 9:19Speaker 1: the thing that's going to get it done. You're giving
- 9:21Speaker 1: Chase Young fifty one million, like that's what's going to
- 9:24Speaker 1: get you there. I Mean, the rest of the football
- 9:29Speaker 1: loving world is zigging while the Saints are agging.
- 9:32Speaker 2: It's just I don't know. Welcome back to New Orleans,
- 9:38Speaker 2: Brandon Cooks. I'm sure it's going to be a blast.
- 9:40Speaker 1: It'll be a blasty blast having you back, Archer stuff
- 9:43Speaker 1: and all on the way to a five win season.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Great
