Speaker 1: Boy, got a lot of things on the list to
• 0:01
Speaker 1: get to today. Let's start with your report to somewhere
• 0:03
Speaker 1: deep in one of the mountains. But what you just
• 0:05
Speaker 1: described there are any number of possibilities that involve the universities,
• 0:10
Speaker 1: that involve what we are, what we're already.
• 0:22
  Speaker 3: Good morning, Houston.
• 0:34
Speaker 4: Morning news time is 827. I'm Chris Lawrence. I'm Daniel Woods.
• 0:38
Speaker 4: At the White House, President Trump hosting China's president for
• 0:41
  Speaker 4: a state dinner.
• 0:41
Speaker 5: The Chinese foreign ministry says Xi told Trump AI must
• 0:44
Speaker 5: be kept under human control. And on the subject of
• 0:48
Speaker 5: the war against Iran. a Chinese ally. She urged Trump
• 0:52
Speaker 5: to end the war through talks as soon as possible.
• 0:55
Speaker 5: Iran is now offering to reopen the Strait of Hormuz
• 0:57
Speaker 5: within seven days if the U.S. lifts its blockade and
• 1:01
Speaker 5: agrees to certain conditions similar to those agreed upon in June.
• 1:04
Speaker 6: That's ABC's Sophie Flay reporting. Americans are paying the price
• 1:08
Speaker 6: for the conflicts overseas. Mortgage rates and gas prices are rising.
• 1:11
Speaker 3: Diesel prices are also at all-time highs. Some lawmakers want
• 1:15
Speaker 3: President Trump to ban the.
• 1:16
  Speaker 7: Export of U.S.
• 1:17
Speaker 3: Diesel to keep more supply here at home. But dozens
• 1:20
Speaker 3: of businesses, including some grocery store trade groups, have now
• 1:24
Speaker 3: signed a letter urging Trump not to do that, saying
• 1:27
Speaker 3: it will only lead to price increases in the long run.
• 1:30
  Speaker 6: That's ABC's Karen Waugh.
• 1:32
Speaker 4: Eight U.S. Navy personnel attached to the USS Abraham Lincoln
• 1:35
Speaker 4: carrier strike group have attempted suicide since the start of
• 1:39
Speaker 4: their extended deployment tied to the war in Iran. That,
• 1:41
Speaker 4: according to a letter ABC News obtained, from the acting U.S.
• 1:44
Speaker 4: Navy Secretary. A Navy official tells ABC that while they
• 1:48
Speaker 4: treat every attempted suicide case seriously, they maintain that that
• 1:52
Speaker 4: number is not out of the norm for a long deployment.
• 1:54
Speaker 8: Whether this is normal during a deployment, it's certainly shocking
• 1:58
Speaker 8: to hear those numbers. And because this deployment was record-breaking, record-breaking,
• 2:05
Speaker 8: the longest at sea carrier group ever without going into
• 2:11
Speaker 8: a port. So at sea, the longest ever.
• 2:15
Speaker 4: ABC News Chief of Global Affairs correspondent Martha Raddatz there.
• 2:17
Speaker 4: The ship docked in Thailand earlier this month with a
• 2:20
Speaker 4: record 286 days at sea.
• 2:22
Speaker 6: Starbucks will be closing hundreds of underperforming locations as we
• 2:26
Speaker 6: hear from ABC's Alex Stone.
• 2:28
Speaker 9: In a memo to employees, Starbucks CEO Brian Nichols says
• 2:31
Speaker 9: a company will be closing 250 stores out of over 18,000
• 2:35
Speaker 9: stores worldwide. Nichols also saying about 1,000 stores will get uplifts,
• 2:40
Speaker 9: as he calls them. He's been focused on enhancing the
• 2:42
Speaker 9: in-store experience as a chain fends off competition from other
• 2:45
Speaker 9: companies like McDonald's, which has been going all in on
• 2:48
Speaker 9: high-margin beverages. Nichols says those working at Starbucks locations who
• 2:52
Speaker 9: will be closing will be notified this week. Alex Stone,
• 2:56
Speaker 9: ABC News. The former head of a Michigan credit union
• 2:58
Speaker 9: wishes she'd never heard of artificial intelligence. Here's ABC's Jim Ryan.
• 3:02
Speaker 10: Last month, President Trump declared the renaming of Canada's Lake
• 3:05
Speaker 10: Ontario to Lake America. Two weeks ago, Jane Smith posted
• 3:09
Speaker 10: an AI-generated picture of herself and three family members wearing
• 3:12
Speaker 10: Lake America sweatshirts, not as a political statement.
• 3:15
Speaker 11: We were kind of poking fun at the fact that
• 3:18
Speaker 11: one of the Great Lakes.
• 3:19
Speaker 3: Names were getting changed.
• 3:20
Speaker 10: Smith's employer, Family First Credit Union, didn't get the joke,
• 3:23
Speaker 10: and she's been fired, telling ABC 12 in Flint, Michigan.
• 3:26
Speaker 7: The AI can be dangerous in the fact that it
• 3:29
Speaker 7: can make people think something's.
• 3:30
  Speaker 3: Real that's not.
• 3:31
Speaker 10: Jim Ryan, ABC News.
• 3:33
Speaker 4: It's 8.30. This is the morning news.
• 3:34
Speaker 10: From ABC News, Wall Street now. Another loss for the
• 3:38
Speaker 10: major stock indexes. The Dow Jones closed down 161 points
• 3:42
Speaker 10: at 51,349 Thursday, 3,000 points below the high-water mark set
• 3:46
Speaker 10: in August. The S & P and NASDAQ were flat yesterday.
• 3:50
Speaker 10: The Middle East conflict pushed the price of Brent crude
• 3:52
Speaker 10: back above $ 106 a barrel overnight. At the consumer level,
• 3:56
Speaker 10: regular unleaded gasoline is going for an average $ 4. 49 a gallon,
• 4:00
Speaker 10: up $ 1. 33 from a year ago. As public opposition to
• 4:03
Speaker 10: data centers grows, Google next week is to take an
• 4:06
Speaker 10: early step towards sending one into space. Project Suncatcher is
• 4:10
Speaker 10: a mission to test how well the company's tensor processing units, TPUs,
• 4:13
Speaker 10: perform while orbiting Earth. Jane Smith is no longer CEO
• 4:18
Speaker 10: at the Family First Credit Union in Michigan after she
• 4:21
Speaker 10: posted an AI-generated image of herself and her family wearing
• 4:24
Speaker 10: Lake America sweatshirts. President Trump has demanded that Canada's Lake
• 4:28
Speaker 10: Ontario be renamed. Smith says the image was a joke,
• 4:31
Speaker 10: not meant for public viewing.
• 4:33
Speaker 4: Jim Ryan, ABC News. It's 8.31 now on the morning news.
• 4:36
Speaker 4: Coming up, Ed Sack continues his out-of-town work, so we'll
• 4:41
Speaker 4: get Jim Goolsbee back in here to do analysis of
• 4:44
Speaker 4: yesterday's market. Clear skies and wheeling, 43 degrees. Huntington clear
• 4:47
Speaker 4: and 50. Charleston fog and 51. Morgantown fog, 43. Clarksburg clear, 43.
• 4:53
Speaker 4: Beckley clear and 41. Elkins cloudy and 39. Martinsburg sunny
• 4:57
Speaker 4: and 40 at 831. You're listening to the morning news.
• 5:26
Speaker 8: We are there for you, to care for you.
• 5:29
Speaker 6: At the Health Plan, we are here for you.
• 5:35
Speaker 4: It's good to have options for your family or employees.
• 5:38
Speaker 6: Rooted in your community since 1979, the Health Plan is
• 5:42
  Speaker 6: your trusted partner.

Speaker 2: Get flexible coverage, exceptional support, and competitive rates.
• 5:48
Speaker 4: The Health Plan, we are.
• 5:51
  Speaker 12: Here for you.
• 5:53
Speaker 6: To almost heaven, West Virginia.
• 6:01
Speaker 13: The best tradition in college sports happens at Milan Pushkar Stadium.
• 6:16
Speaker 13: This is the place you belong. Secure your seats this
• 6:19
  Speaker 13: fall at wvugame.com.
• 6:23
Speaker 2: In 1914, the same year the first commercial flight soared
• 6:26
Speaker 2: and the Panama Canal opened, Greer Industries was born. Herbert
• 6:30
Speaker 2: and Agnes Greer began in Morgantown, West Virginia, striking the
• 6:34
Speaker 2: first pick into the limestone formation that would become the
• 6:37
Speaker 2: backbone of one of the state's great industrial legacies. From
• 6:40
Speaker 2: the roads we drive on, the buildings we build, and
• 6:43
Speaker 2: the communities we serve, Greer Industries has been delivering quality
• 6:47
Speaker 2: for decades. At Greer Industries, we've been improving lives for
• 6:51
Speaker 2: more than a century.
• 6:52
  Speaker 10: 180 over 111.
• 6:58
Speaker 4: Use the voice of West Virginia. It's 836 on the
• 7:04
Speaker 4: morning news. Good morning. I'm Chris Lawrence. And it's time
• 7:08
Speaker 4: for the Metro News Market Report. Normally we've got Ed Stike,
• 7:10
Speaker 4: but he's been out of town on business this week.
• 7:13
Speaker 4: So instead, Jim Goolsbee has been filling in, and Jim
• 7:17
Speaker 4: joins us for his final day of the week. Morning, Jim.
• 7:21
Speaker 14: Hey, good morning, Chris.
• 7:22
Speaker 4: How are you? I am well. What do we got
• 7:24
Speaker 4: on Wall Street this morning?
• 7:26
Speaker 14: Well, it looks like futures are going to open higher
• 7:28
Speaker 14: this morning on the heels of those comments that came
• 7:31
Speaker 14: out yesterday that the U.S. and Iran— We're trying to
• 7:36
Speaker 14: find a workaround to get the Strait of Hormuz opened.
• 7:40
Speaker 14: It would be some sort of a phased-in arrangement. I
• 7:42
Speaker 14: don't know that we know all of the specifics. But,
• 7:45
Speaker 14: of course, Chris, we've been down that road before. We'll
• 7:47
Speaker 14: see if that comes to fruition. But that really served
• 7:50
Speaker 14: as a catalyst, really, to turn the market around yesterday.
• 7:55
Speaker 14: When we spoke yesterday, futures were broadly lower. All of
• 7:59
Speaker 14: the indexes were broadly lower. And they opened up, you know, very,
• 8:04
Speaker 14: very weak. And then a couple Fed governors spoke yesterday morning.
• 8:07
Speaker 14: Both said they anticipated additional rate hikes before the end
• 8:11
Speaker 14: of the year. That added to the weakness in the morning.
• 8:16
Speaker 14: But then we got that comment about, you know, maybe
• 8:18
Speaker 14: some headway being made about opening the Strait of Hormuz.
• 8:22
Speaker 14: And anytime we get those comments, it tends to turn
• 8:24
Speaker 14: the market back positive, which it did. I mean, the
• 8:28
Speaker 14: Dow still ended up down 161 points. It's down six-tenths
• 8:32
Speaker 14: of 1% for the week. So unless we get a
• 8:35
Speaker 14: pretty good rally, that will actually be the fourth week
• 8:38
Speaker 14: in a row that the Dow has traded lower. The
• 8:41
Speaker 14: S & P and NASDAQ were both way down early yesterday.
• 8:45
Speaker 14: But after those comments, they both rallied and basically ended
• 8:48
  Speaker 14: up flat. The S & P was down a point.
• 8:51
Speaker 14: NASDAQ was up three points. Both of those indexes are
• 8:54
Speaker 14: on track to have positive gains for the week. The
• 8:56
  Speaker 14: S & P up seven-tenths of 1%. the NASDAQ up 1.6%.
• 9:02
Speaker 14: We did get a jobless claims number yesterday that came
• 9:05
Speaker 14: in better than expected, as fewer Americans applied for unemployment.
• 9:09
Speaker 14: That's certainly some good news. Four of the 11 sectors
• 9:13
  Speaker 14: of the S & P 500 traded higher. That was
• 9:16
Speaker 14: led by communications services, and that's mainly because of meta. Facebook,
• 9:21
Speaker 14: I'll get to that here in just a second. Utilities
• 9:25
Speaker 14: were the worst performing sector of the market, but Really, Chris,
• 9:29
Speaker 14: Meta has been on quite a run here, and it's
• 9:31
Speaker 14: really helped the NASDAQ earlier this week hit new highs.
• 9:35
Speaker 14: And a big part of the reason for that is Meta.
• 9:36
Speaker 14: If you go back to August the 18th, Meta was
• 9:39
  Speaker 14: $ 543 a share. It closed yesterday at $ 777 a share.
• 9:47
Speaker 14: That's a 43% move up over the last five weeks.
• 9:51
Speaker 14: So if you own Meta over the last month or so,
• 9:53
Speaker 14: you're pretty pleased with its performance. And really what drove
• 9:57
Speaker 14: that performance was they released their AI. product. It's called Muse.
• 10:02
Speaker 14: And I heard one analyst say that it could be
• 10:04
Speaker 14: the most downloaded app since ChatGPT. And it's being sold
• 10:10
Speaker 14: as it will be your own personal AI assistant. Now,
• 10:14
Speaker 14: I'm not telling people to run out and buy Meta
• 10:16
Speaker 14: because of that. But that's really a big reason why
• 10:18
Speaker 14: the NASDAQ has held up pretty well here through all
• 10:21
Speaker 14: of this volatility. So with the comments from the delegations
• 10:26
Speaker 14: from the U.S. and Iran meeting and the potential of
• 10:29
Speaker 14: the Strait of Hormuz being opened, futures are pointing a
• 10:32
Speaker 14: little higher here this morning. Dow up over 100 points,
• 10:36
  Speaker 14: S & P up about 25 points, and the NASDAQ
• 10:39
Speaker 14: up about 150, 160 points. But market participants are still
• 10:44
Speaker 14: going to continue to monitor three things, inflation, treasury yields,
• 10:48
Speaker 14: and probably most importantly, what's going on with the Middle
• 10:51
Speaker 14: East conflict. We did get one economic number this morning, Chris.
• 10:56
Speaker 14: We got durable goods. And, of course, durable goods are
• 10:59
Speaker 14: just products that are designed to last three years or longer,
• 11:02
Speaker 14: like appliances, TVs, dishwashers, furniture, that type of stuff. It
• 11:08
Speaker 14: was up 1.1% in July. They were expecting actually a
• 11:11
Speaker 14: decrease of three-tenths of 1%. The number actually came in unchanged,
• 11:15
Speaker 14: so it was a little bit better than expected. So
• 11:18
Speaker 14: all of that has us pointing to a little bit
• 11:20
Speaker 14: of a higher opening here this morning.
• 11:22
Speaker 4: I got you. So how are your cattle doing? Has
• 11:27
Speaker 4: the lifting of the tariffs on the South American beef
• 11:30
Speaker 4: impacted the price of your investments?
• 11:33
Speaker 14: It has. I mean, if you look throughout the summer,
• 11:37
Speaker 14: cattle prices dropped about 17%. So I know the last
• 11:43
Speaker 14: pen that I had go in, we really didn't have
• 11:45
Speaker 14: a whole lot of a profit on that as opposed
• 11:48
Speaker 14: to what we've done in the two prior ones. So, yeah,
• 11:53
Speaker 14: cattle prices have weakened some. And I think demand has
• 11:56
Speaker 14: dropped a little bit for beef because people just simply
• 11:58
Speaker 14: can't afford to pay for it.
• 12:00
Speaker 4: I was going to say, the price I pay at
• 12:02
Speaker 4: Texas Roadhouse hasn't gone down 17%. No, no.
• 12:07
Speaker 14: I think once these restaurants get a chance to raise
• 12:10
Speaker 14: the price to a level, it's hard to get them
• 12:12
Speaker 14: to pull it back, even if their cost comes down
• 12:14
  Speaker 14: a little bit.
• 12:14
Speaker 4: Well, unless people quit buying it, you know. Exactly. That's
• 12:19
Speaker 4: how the market works. That's... And that's called capitalism.
• 12:24
Speaker 14: That's exactly right. We're already getting some predictions on retail
• 12:28
Speaker 14: sales for the holiday season. I mean, it seems a
• 12:30
Speaker 14: little early for that, but I saw one analyst say
• 12:34
Speaker 14: that they thought holiday sales would rise by 4.1%. and
• 12:40
Speaker 14: that means those sales would top a trillion dollars for
• 12:43
Speaker 14: the second year in a row over the holiday season.
• 12:46
Speaker 4: Well, that sounds great. Unfortunately, I'm afraid a lot of
• 12:49
Speaker 4: that is going to go on a credit card, and
• 12:50
  Speaker 4: that's not great.
• 12:52
Speaker 14: Well, I think you're right about that. We talk to
• 12:56
Speaker 14: clients a lot about don't carry credit card debt because
• 12:59
Speaker 14: it is a killer.
• 13:00
Speaker 4: It is indeed. All right, well, Jim, appreciate your help
• 13:03
Speaker 4: this weekend. Back on Monday, right?
• 13:05
Speaker 14: He will be back on Monday.
• 13:06
Speaker 4: Sounds good. Jim, appreciate your time, buddy.
• 13:09
Speaker 14: All right, Chris, have a good weekend.
• 13:10
Speaker 4: All right, Jim Goolsby there with the Wealth Enhancement Group
• 13:12
Speaker 4: with the Market Report. It's 842. Morning news time is 848.
• 13:53
Speaker 4: I'm Daniel Woods. And I'm Chris Lawrence.
• 13:55
Speaker 6: Toyota and state leaders celebrated a 30-year anniversary on Thursday.
• 13:59
Speaker 6: The Putnam County plant started in 1996. and has expanded
• 14:02
Speaker 6: 30 times since then, now employing more than 2,000 people.
• 14:05
Speaker 6: Gina Morrison was hired at that plant three years after
• 14:08
Speaker 6: it opened, right after becoming the single parent of a grandchild.
• 14:11
Speaker 6: She admits there were lean times, but the company was
• 14:14
  Speaker 6: a rock.
• 14:14
Speaker 7: That's been wonderful to be able to have the time
• 14:17
Speaker 7: with her and also to have the financial stability of
• 14:20
Speaker 7: a job that I knew that was going to be lasting,
• 14:23
Speaker 7: even in the downturn. We never lost our employment and
• 14:28
Speaker 7: were never laid off, and that's a wonderful thing to
• 14:30
  Speaker 7: have happened.
• 14:31
Speaker 6: Governor Patrick Morrissey says Toyota is a shining example of
• 14:34
Speaker 6: what West Virginia is looking for.
• 14:36
Speaker 15: We want people to come here, look at the quality
• 14:38
Speaker 15: of our workforce, see that those fundamentals are getting better
• 14:42
Speaker 15: and better and better, and we want companies.
• 14:44
Speaker 4: To say, can I have more?
• 14:46
Speaker 6: Let's do a little bit more.
• 14:48
Speaker 15: Let's invest a little bit more. Let's continue to amplify
• 14:52
Speaker 15: the strength of our state.
• 14:55
Speaker 6: Company officials say you can expect additional investment and expansion
• 14:58
Speaker 6: in the next 30 years.
• 14:59
Speaker 4: A Cabell County man testified he did not kill his
• 15:01
Speaker 4: infant daughter, but did admit he burned her body. 53-year-old
• 15:04
Speaker 4: Shannon Overstreet of Huntington took the witness stand in his
• 15:07
Speaker 4: own defense Thursday, telling the court that his daughter had
• 15:10
Speaker 4: suffered a broken rib after spending some time at a
• 15:12
Speaker 4: friend's house. In the next morning, he discovered that she
• 15:14
Speaker 4: was dead. He confirmed he took the baby to a
• 15:17
Speaker 4: farm in Kentucky where he burned her body in a barrel.
• 15:20
Speaker 4: and called it a cremation. Jury deliberations are expected to
• 15:23
Speaker 4: begin today. Jury deliberations resumed this morning in Kanawha County
• 15:26
Speaker 4: Circuit Court in the trial of resident Leo Smith. He's
• 15:30
Speaker 4: charged with possessing hundreds of images of child pornography on
• 15:33
Speaker 4: his cell phone. Kanawha County Assistant Prosecutor Ryan Ball told
• 15:36
Speaker 4: the jury Thursday during closing arguments that Smith exploited abused children.
• 15:40
Speaker 3: While the children who were abused, violated, and exploited in
• 15:44
Speaker 3: those videos were innocent, Leo.
• 15:47
  Speaker 7: Smith is not.
• 15:49
Speaker 6: Smith's attorney says there's a question about where the phone
• 15:51
Speaker 6: came from. The jury deliberated for about three hours yesterday
• 15:55
Speaker 6: and will return to court this morning.
• 15:56
Speaker 4: South Charleston police are releasing their report into the tragic
• 15:59
Speaker 4: death of a 12-year-old boy from earlier this week. Dunbar
• 16:02
Speaker 4: Middle School student Hunter Combs died after he was struck
• 16:04
Speaker 4: by a car Monday night. He was crossing McCorkle Avenue.
• 16:07
Speaker 4: Police say the driver who struck Combs committed no traffic violations.
• 16:11
Speaker 4: South Charleston Police Captain Andrew Gordon said the driver stopped
• 16:14
Speaker 4: immediately after hitting Combs, staying on the scene and cooperated
• 16:17
Speaker 4: with police. And Gordon said the driver showed no signs
• 16:19
Speaker 4: of any alcohol or drug impairment. And they say speed
• 16:22
Speaker 4: was not a factor in the accident. The driver had
• 16:24
Speaker 4: the green light at the time. Combs died just hours
• 16:27
Speaker 4: after a South Charleston elementary school teacher, Allison Ross, was
• 16:31
Speaker 4: killed in a head-on collision on the Dunbar Toll Bridge.
• 16:34
Speaker 6: For a second time in less than three months, Boone
• 16:36
Speaker 6: County Emergency Services Director Michael Mayhorn is wading through the
• 16:39
Speaker 6: mud to visit with flood victims in his county. Flooding
• 16:42
Speaker 6: along several creeks in the Morrisville area took out numerous
• 16:45
Speaker 6: private bridges and the road. Mayhorn said several homes were
• 16:48
  Speaker 6: also flooded.
• 16:49
Speaker 14: I'm looking at one right now as we speak. There's
• 16:52
Speaker 14: a lady telling me that her home had three and
• 16:54
  Speaker 14: a half foot.
• 16:55
Speaker 4: Of water in it. Cleanup is already underway. Tremendous excitement
• 16:59
Speaker 4: in Morgantown ahead of tomorrow night's Mountaineer football game against
• 17:02
Speaker 4: Oklahoma State. The first night game of the season and
• 17:05
Speaker 4: police are preaching safety for fans going into Milam Pushkar Stadium.
• 17:09
Speaker 4: WVU Chief of Police Sherry St. Clair says drivers You
• 17:12
Speaker 4: have to be especially cautious.
• 17:13
Speaker 12: You're really going to have to pay attention to the
• 17:15
Speaker 12: pedestrians because it is going to be dark out there.
• 17:17
Speaker 12: The watch people are going to be all over the
• 17:18
Speaker 12: place trying to get to their own cars. Just be patient.
• 17:21
Speaker 4: And she urges fans to drink responsibly and don't drink
• 17:24
  Speaker 4: and drive.
• 17:24
Speaker 12: I just think make sure people are paying attention, drink responsibly,
• 17:29
Speaker 12: take the guidance of the officers when they're in your
• 17:31
Speaker 12: intersections coming in and stuff, and then have a good time.
• 17:35
Speaker 4: Kickoff at 7 o'clock between the Cowboys and the Mountaineers.
• 17:38
Speaker 6: Authorities say a child was hospitalized as a precaution after
• 17:41
Speaker 6: a bus crash in Harrison County. That happened during the
• 17:43
Speaker 6: afternoon run Thursday around 4.15 on Route 19 near Dawson
• 17:47
Speaker 6: Mine Road. Deputies say the bus, which was empty, rear-ended

Speaker 6: one car at an intersection, shoving it into another vehicle.
• 17:53
Speaker 6: The child victim was in the third vehicle, and an
• 17:55
  Speaker 6: investigation continues.
• 17:57
Speaker 4: And Jackson County school officials report an unusual guest in
• 18:00
Speaker 4: the gymnasium at Ripley Elementary Thursday night. Video surveillance showed
• 18:03
Speaker 4: a deer on the school lawn. Got spooked, took off,
• 18:06
Speaker 4: darted right through an open door into the gym. The
• 18:09
Speaker 4: creature looked around for a moment, realized that probably wasn't
• 18:11
Speaker 4: where it should be, turned around and went right back
• 18:14
Speaker 4: out the door. There's a cool picture of that, too,
• 18:16
Speaker 4: that they posted to their social media of a deer
• 18:19
Speaker 4: at midcourt. Going to have to find that.
• 18:21
  Speaker 5: No.
• 18:22
Speaker 6: All right, who's the state got this weekend? We are
• 18:24

• 18:36
Speaker 4: This is the Morning News.
• 19:02
Speaker 2: Since 1914, Greer limestone and asphalt have been laying the
• 19:06
Speaker 2: groundwork for America's roads, buildings, and bridges. What started as
• 19:10
Speaker 2: a single limestone mine near Morgantown, West Virginia, has grown
• 19:14
Speaker 2: into the state's largest producer of limestone aggregates. But Greer
• 19:17
Speaker 2: doesn't stop at rock. Greer's Morgantown and Clarksburg Asphalt Plant
• 19:22
Speaker 2: produce top-tier paving mixes for driveways to major highways, crafted
• 19:26
Speaker 2: to meet federal standards. At Greer Limestone and Greer Asphalt,
• 19:30
Speaker 2: we've been improving lives for more than a century.
• 19:33
Speaker 11: I do my best when I feel safe and inspired
• 19:39
  Speaker 11: to learn.
• 19:39
  Speaker 4: That's a schoolboy.
• 19:41
Speaker 8: I want better opportunities than my parents had.
• 19:43
Speaker 11: That's the school board thing this is the golden blue
• 19:47
  Speaker 11: report on metro.
• 19:48
Speaker 15: News mountaineers are off to a great start hosting a
• 19:51
Speaker 15: team that's on the rise as well we'll talk about
• 19:53
Speaker 15: that in a moment time out.
• 19:56
Speaker 13: All right remember we're a team that plays together listen
• 20:00
  Speaker 13: the winning.
• 20:01
Speaker 4: Will take care of itself we just have to get
• 20:03
  Speaker 4: everyone involved.
• 20:04
Speaker 11: In Interscholastic Sports, we celebrate what makes every one of
• 20:08
Speaker 11: us unique. And in the pursuit of a common goal,
• 20:11
Speaker 11: everyone in the huddle, in the bleachers, and in the
• 20:14
Speaker 11: community comes together. This message presented by the WVSSAC and
• 20:21
Speaker 11: the West Virginia Athletic Directors Association.
• 20:23
Speaker 15: 3-0 WVU will face an Oklahoma State team that has
• 20:26
Speaker 15: a victory over a top 10 opponent already in Oregon.
• 20:29
Speaker 15: Coach Eric Morris is in his first season with the
• 20:31
Speaker 15: Cowboys with 91 new players.
• 20:34
Speaker 16: We're getting there with our team. We're learning and we're
• 20:36
Speaker 16: growing and we're seeing, you know, week by week getting
• 20:39
Speaker 16: a little bit better at some small details, which has
• 20:41
Speaker 16: been good to see.
• 20:42
Speaker 4: True test this week.
• 20:43
Speaker 16: I mean, there's so many things. Going on the road,
• 20:45
Speaker 16: you know, they're a little bit different than anybody we've
• 20:47
Speaker 16: played from the fact that they really want to run
• 20:49
Speaker 16: the quarterback. You know, Hawkins is really dynamic back there
• 20:52
Speaker 16: with his feet, and then they've been super explosive in
• 20:54
Speaker 16: the pass game. You know, once you start bringing those
• 20:56
Speaker 16: safeties down into fits and adding that extra hat, obviously
• 21:00
Speaker 16: opens up some seams, and he's been phenomenal.
• 21:03
Speaker 4: So far, you know.
• 21:03
Speaker 16: But what a great opportunity for our team to go
• 21:06
Speaker 16: on the road, you know, and just so many things
• 21:08
Speaker 16: you dream about, you know, on national TV, football weather.
• 21:13
  Speaker 4: Under the lights.
• 21:14
Speaker 16: Undefeated team first big 12 game like so many cool
• 21:17
Speaker 16: storylines for our teams to get excited for missed tackles
• 21:20
Speaker 16: will kill you and and when you're fitting this run
• 21:22
Speaker 16: game up it's not just hawkins like cooks are really
• 21:25
Speaker 16: really dynamic back back there that will punish you as
• 21:28
Speaker 16: well so we we got to communicate we got to
• 21:30
Speaker 16: tackle we could all be on the same page all
• 21:32
Speaker 16: 11 of us they look so much better as a
• 21:34
Speaker 16: team from year one to year two i think they
• 21:36
Speaker 16: did a nice job in the portal at going out
• 21:38
Speaker 16: and getting some of their needs and then they have
• 21:39
Speaker 16: some returners back and year two of the systems and
• 21:42
Speaker 16: so You can definitely see the growth in it. But
• 21:45
Speaker 16: I watched Hawkins in high school. I think he could
• 21:47
Speaker 16: do whatever. Like, I mean, he's really talented. I've watched
• 21:50
Speaker 16: him throw the football. And that's one thing, you know,
• 21:52
Speaker 16: some of these guys that are great athletes and great runners,
• 21:55
Speaker 16: you know, they might have a fault and not be
• 21:57
Speaker 16: able to throw the football down the field. And whereas
• 21:59
  Speaker 16: he can.
• 21:59
Speaker 15: First year, Oklahoma State coach Eric Morris, the Cowboys are
• 22:03
Speaker 15: headed to Morgantown with a 2-1 record. It's the Big
• 22:07
Speaker 15: 12 conference opener for both teams. With the Golden Blue Report,
• 22:12
Speaker 15: I'm Kyle Wiggs, Metro News 4.
• 22:14
Speaker 4: 8.59 on the morning news. Have a great weekend, everybody.
• 22:16
Speaker 4: Talk to you Monday morning. For our producer, Anthony A.
• 22:19
