- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, everybody, It's Jeff here. I wanted to let
- 0:02Speaker 1: you know. We recorded this podcast episode on Monday, October
- 0:05Speaker 1: twenty eight, twenty twenty four. By the time you hear this,
- 0:07Speaker 1: some things may have changed here or there, but we
- 0:09Speaker 1: hope you enjoy the show. Welcome to Table Talk here
- 0:32Speaker 1: at the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest running
- 0:35Speaker 1: weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world, that's right
- 0:38Speaker 1: over eleven and a half year strong. We've got a
- 0:40Speaker 1: great discussion coming your way here on Table Talk. We're
- 0:42Speaker 1: gonna get into some NBA talk, some Eastern Conference talk
- 0:45Speaker 1: as well, because yes, even though there have only been
- 0:48Speaker 1: a few games played here there with regard to this
- 0:51Speaker 1: NBA season, there's some interesting storylines to get into. Right
- 0:53Speaker 1: after week one, we have got a great guest. I
- 0:56Speaker 1: absolutely loved talking to him. I was on his podcast,
- 0:59Speaker 1: Rece and it's gonna be great to talk to him again.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Let's get right to it joining us this week. You
- 1:05Speaker 1: can hear he and his co host on their podcast
- 1:09Speaker 1: The Dime with Josh and Quab. He is a great,
- 1:12Speaker 1: great friend of this show. I was recently, as I
- 1:15Speaker 1: mentioned in the intro, on their show talking about the
- 1:18Speaker 1: Philadelphia seventy six ers. But to get into this early
- 1:21Speaker 1: NBA season, we've got Josh Rodriguez, Josh, Buddy, how you doing, man,
- 1:24Speaker 1: Jeff good.
- 1:25Speaker 2: To be back on.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Thanks for coming on the show earlier as well. Like
- 1:28Speaker 3: I said before to this off camera, but I'm gonna
- 1:30Speaker 3: say it on camera here your audience.
- 1:32Speaker 4: You I think you might be our favorite guest. Jeez,
- 1:35Speaker 4: I'm embarrassed, I'm blushing. I appreciate that, my friend. It's
- 1:41Speaker 4: always great having you on too.
- 1:42Speaker 1: You know you. Look, we follow the world of Philly
- 1:45Speaker 1: sports here you are, you know you and you and
- 1:47Speaker 1: Quad do a fantastic job on the dime. But you
- 1:50Speaker 1: being a New York Knicks fan, I love having you
- 1:52Speaker 1: on too because you are very objective with what you
- 1:55Speaker 1: see in the NBA. You are, You and Quab are
- 1:58Speaker 1: very objective on the show. You know what you see
- 2:00Speaker 1: Like he's a Brooklyn Nets fan, You're a New York
- 2:03Speaker 1: Knicks fan. We're certainly gonna get into the Knicks on
- 2:05Speaker 1: this on this show and discussion. But it's one of
- 2:08Speaker 1: the reasons I love having you on. And like, it's
- 2:10Speaker 1: just it's early in this season and I wanted to
- 2:12Speaker 1: really just dive into what we've been seeing from certain
- 2:16Speaker 1: players thus far and get that honest Josh assessment from you.
- 2:21Speaker 1: So yes, I mean right off the bat. I mean
- 2:23Speaker 1: I was hoping you might be able to give your
- 2:25Speaker 1: thoughts on maybe two players, maybe your two top players
- 2:28Speaker 1: who have really kind of just raised your eyebrows a
- 2:30Speaker 1: bit as we're at the start of this season, some
- 2:33Speaker 1: players that have been surprising to you. Who are those
- 2:36Speaker 1: players and why have they been a surprise to you?
- 2:38Speaker 2: All Right, this is gonna hurt, But one is Buddy Healed.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, right, I had to man.
- 2:46Speaker 3: He dropped twenty two points twenty seven points in his
- 2:49Speaker 3: first two games with the Warriors, five three pointers in
- 2:51Speaker 3: the first game, seven three pointers in his second game
- 2:53Speaker 3: in a system that seems to be very perfect. Right, Like,
- 2:56Speaker 3: Warriors lose Klay Thompson and you insert Buddy Healed. I'm
- 2:59Speaker 3: not saying Buddy Heel is Klay Thompson. But if you're
- 3:01Speaker 3: going to go to one team to accentuate your three
- 3:04Speaker 3: point abilities, I think playing with Steph Curry and just
- 3:07Speaker 3: kind of sliding into what Klay Thompson was doing would
- 3:10Speaker 3: fit perfectly.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Greddy, He's coming off the bench, he's not doing it
- 3:12Speaker 2: in the start of a role.
- 3:14Speaker 3: It's still really impressive for what he's done. And I
- 3:16Speaker 3: think it just shows you that you know, fit matters,
- 3:18Speaker 3: you know, coaching matters, where you go batters and Buddy
- 3:22Speaker 3: it's like he's back at Oklahoma exactly he was in college,
- 3:26Speaker 3: launch and threes and hitting them. And you know, outside
- 3:29Speaker 3: of Game six in the playoffs last year, I really
- 3:31Speaker 3: don't remember anything that Buddy Heel did in the seventy
- 3:34Speaker 3: sixth year form they could have used him. Yeah, so
- 3:36Speaker 3: I had always nobody could shoot.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Yeah, he had a hot start when when the Sixers
- 3:40Speaker 1: acquired him, he had a he had a hot like
- 3:42Speaker 1: few weeks where he was playing some really good basketball
- 3:44Speaker 1: and we're thinking, wow, it works, he's a good fit.
- 3:48Speaker 1: And then it just dropped off from the hair.
- 3:50Speaker 2: You know, maybe it was maybe it was defense. Maybe
- 3:52Speaker 2: that's what it was.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Maybe the Cherson didn't didn't want didn't want to sacrifice
- 3:55Speaker 3: defense or some profense. But I mean when the Sixers
- 3:58Speaker 3: had him, you need shooting, you need someone to spread
- 4:00Speaker 3: the floor. And you saw in game he almost beat
- 4:02Speaker 3: the nixt single handle in Game six, came back and everything. Yeah,
- 4:05Speaker 3: so I mean that the potential was always there. He
- 4:07Speaker 3: had a nice run with the Kings, but it surprised
- 4:10Speaker 3: me to the extent. Also, it surprised me the Warriors
- 4:12Speaker 3: start of the season two no than the fashion that
- 4:14Speaker 3: they did. So that's probably has something to do with
- 4:16Speaker 3: why I chose Buddy.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, sounds good. Do you have another one
- 4:19Speaker 1: at all?
- 4:20Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 4:20Speaker 3: This one's Chet Holmgren because for me, I always thought
- 4:25Speaker 3: Chet was good. I think everybody thinks Chet's good, but
- 4:27Speaker 3: I like it got to the point where it's like
- 4:29Speaker 3: this guy could, if he wasn't.
- 4:30Speaker 2: What SGA like, could be an MVP candidate right sometime,
- 4:34Speaker 2: like like.
- 4:34Speaker 3: That good where it's he completely dominated the first game
- 4:37Speaker 3: against Nicol Jokic and the Denver Nuggets. Was a force
- 4:41Speaker 3: at the rim, was hitting threes, was literally doing everything,
- 4:43Speaker 3: and it was like this guy was in a market
- 4:46Speaker 3: that wasn't Oklahoma City and didn't have a teammate who
- 4:49Speaker 3: has been crowned already as an MVP candidate, we would
- 4:52Speaker 3: be talking about this guy a lot more.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Chet Holmgren.
- 4:55Speaker 3: I mean, it's his second year at healthy in the league,
- 4:56Speaker 3: is third technically to me, He's somebody who I don't
- 5:00Speaker 3: think enough people are talking about and enough people don't
- 5:02Speaker 3: know how.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Good he is.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's a really great response. Really, I
- 5:05Speaker 1: love those two. They're both doing some good stuff this year.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Who knows with Buddy Heal how how that's gonna last.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I don't know. As a six well skeptical, well skeptical.
- 5:16Speaker 1: But as we're moving along with the conversation here, I
- 5:20Speaker 1: wanted to get in one particular team in the East.
- 5:22Speaker 1: I think it's interesting how the Hawks are two and
- 5:25Speaker 1: one on the season. They're number four right now in
- 5:27Speaker 1: Eastern Conference as of us recording this, and yes, of
- 5:29Speaker 1: course it is early, but they've been playing some decent basketball,
- 5:33Speaker 1: some pretty good basketball early on here. Do you think
- 5:35Speaker 1: we should be looking at the Hawks as more of
- 5:38Speaker 1: a viable team perhaps in the East?
- 5:40Speaker 3: Here?
- 5:40Speaker 2: Absolutely not, Okay, Hawks, listen.
- 5:44Speaker 3: I think Trey Young has become underrated and quobscasts all
- 5:47Speaker 3: the time on the show now, like Trey Young was
- 5:49Speaker 3: overrated at some point, but then they hate became so
- 5:52Speaker 3: strong that he's become a little underrated, And I think
- 5:54Speaker 3: that's true. I think I think we take his talents
- 5:56Speaker 3: for granted, and I think he's better than maybe what
- 5:58Speaker 3: you're casual MBAF fan thinks he is. But the Hawks team,
- 6:01Speaker 3: they're not a good team defensively, right. Their two wins
- 6:03Speaker 3: were against the Nets, and I mean are a Horns
- 6:06Speaker 3: team which we're gonna talk about in a little bit
- 6:08Speaker 3: that's playing better for sure, but still they're the Hornets.
- 6:11Speaker 3: So until they take down a Celtics or a Knicks
- 6:15Speaker 3: or Taberwolves or a couple of those teams, not just one,
- 6:18Speaker 3: because you can be one at any time in the season,
- 6:20Speaker 3: but until you start winning games against teams that I
- 6:23Speaker 3: consider contenders or playoff teams, yeah, I can't taste this
- 6:26Speaker 3: team seriously because they can't guard anybody.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Yeah, they can't guard anybody. There's something though. The reason
- 6:31Speaker 1: why I wanted to ask you that question, and I
- 6:33Speaker 1: get pulled into this sphere a lot when it comes
- 6:35Speaker 1: to NBA talk when it comes to certain teams, is
- 6:38Speaker 1: that even when a team like the Hawks or even
- 6:41Speaker 1: team I'm not gonna say, like the Wizards or anything,
- 6:43Speaker 1: but when teams can really come out of the gate
- 6:47Speaker 1: have multiple wins, it can provide momentum. And I'm a
- 6:51Speaker 1: sports fan that whether it's NBA, NFL, NHL, whatever it is,
- 6:55Speaker 1: that moment There is something to be said for momentum
- 6:58Speaker 1: in sports and out of the gate, even two wins
- 7:01Speaker 1: against teams and not too too good as we know,
- 7:04Speaker 1: I the Atlanta Hawks had some momentum, and that's why
- 7:07Speaker 1: I wanted to put it out there for there's something
- 7:09Speaker 1: I think with regard to momentum. But you're absolutely right
- 7:12Speaker 1: in terms of what they don't have and stuff, But
- 7:15Speaker 1: it's a I think momentum is important sometimes.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's a little bit of a different
- 7:19Speaker 3: team that went to the Eastern Conference finals, but their
- 7:21Speaker 3: main guy is still there.
- 7:22Speaker 2: I mean Jalen Johnson, like he's I mean, it could be,
- 7:26Speaker 2: It's possible. I mean, there's a team that comes up
- 7:27Speaker 2: to surprises us every year.
- 7:28Speaker 1: So maybe the absolutely, well, we're gonna get into some
- 7:31Speaker 1: surprise teams and the some we're gonna get into some
- 7:34Speaker 1: overreactions in a little bit here during our discussion. But
- 7:38Speaker 1: I wanted to next move on to a team that
- 7:40Speaker 1: you know all very very well, very well, your team,
- 7:43Speaker 1: the New York Knicks, the Nigger Boxers. Yes, and I'll
- 7:47Speaker 1: tell you on our sixer season preview this past week
- 7:49Speaker 1: on this podcast platform, I predicted that the New York
- 7:53Speaker 1: Knicks are gonna go to the NBA Finals this year. Yes,
- 7:55Speaker 1: I did. Knicks and Okase are going to be the
- 7:58Speaker 1: last two teams bad for the NBA Championship this year.
- 8:02Speaker 1: That's what I predicted.
- 8:03Speaker 4: And I.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Like to think that this next team. And I go
- 8:08Speaker 1: to my best friend Dave, I'm gonna give him a
- 8:10Speaker 1: shout out. I mean, he's just been walking through the
- 8:12Speaker 1: desert as you have, Josh for many many years up
- 8:15Speaker 1: until the past couple of years, with what this Knicks
- 8:16Speaker 1: team has done. And I'm wondering, and again it's only
- 8:20Speaker 1: week one here, but what have you seen early on
- 8:23Speaker 1: from this Knicks team in terms of they're on the
- 8:26Speaker 1: court play that you really think it's gonna translate throughout
- 8:28Speaker 1: the season in a real positive fashion for them.
- 8:32Speaker 3: I mean, there's two games, and there's a whole lot
- 8:34Speaker 3: of mixed messages because the first game was as horrible
- 8:37Speaker 3: well as it could be, and the second game was
- 8:39Speaker 3: as good as it could be. Yeah, So as a
- 8:41Speaker 3: Nick fan, I'm like, Okay, which one is the team?
- 8:43Speaker 2: Right? Right? And I think, you know, I like to
- 8:48Speaker 2: judge teams. I say this all the time.
- 8:49Speaker 3: Like football, you have seventeen games now and it's week
- 8:53Speaker 3: by week and you kind of have to make rash
- 8:55Speaker 3: you know, generalizations, you know, within like two games with
- 8:58Speaker 3: the NBA, like I feel like you have to maybe
- 9:00Speaker 3: ten fifteen games, yeah, at a time make generalizations about
- 9:04Speaker 3: your team. So I still don't know what this Nick
- 9:08Speaker 3: team is. You know, at the end of the day,
- 9:11Speaker 3: they have to beat the Boston Celtics, and the Boston
- 9:13Speaker 3: Celtics beat the crap out of them without Chris presingis
- 9:16Speaker 3: so to me, all right, well, if that's the litmus
- 9:19Speaker 3: test we failed, we have failed. And granted the Celtics
- 9:23Speaker 3: had a historic shooting night, They're never gonna shoot like
- 9:25Speaker 3: that again. Yeah, so that's part of it. I also
- 9:29Speaker 3: think chemistry is a big thing. You already saw by
- 9:31Speaker 3: the second game, midway through the first quarter, it was
- 9:33Speaker 3: like a switch flip against the Pacers. It's like, oh,
- 9:37Speaker 3: like this is how we should play together. So I
- 9:39Speaker 3: wonder what that version of the Knicks looks like going forward.
- 9:42Speaker 3: You know, as a Nick fan, I am fairly optimistic
- 9:44Speaker 3: that the team we saw against the Pacers is the
- 9:46Speaker 3: real team, and that team it can switch on the
- 9:48Speaker 3: perimeter with og and Josh Hart and Michael Bridges. You know,
- 9:53Speaker 3: that was a vision against the Celtics. That's a team
- 9:54Speaker 3: that can spread the floor with Carl Hinton's on the
- 9:56Speaker 3: offensive end, Dylan Brunson had about four layups where there
- 9:59Speaker 3: was nobody the paint and I didn't see that at
- 10:01Speaker 3: all last year as a Knicks band. So, you know,
- 10:04Speaker 3: the good, that's the good. The bad is a team
- 10:06Speaker 3: that can't defend the three point line and overhelps with
- 10:09Speaker 3: everything and Tommy that's more a schematic issue because Tibbs
- 10:12Speaker 3: likes to protect the paint. Yeah, doesn't give enough attention
- 10:14Speaker 3: to the three point line in his schemes, which really
- 10:17Speaker 3: frustrates me.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Look, I know I said on your podcast, I said
- 10:23Speaker 1: it on the Dime, and I also talked about in
- 10:25Speaker 1: our six Ers season preview when we were talking about
- 10:26Speaker 1: the Knicks as well, that the energy that the Knicks
- 10:31Speaker 1: had last year, especially in the series against the Sixers,
- 10:34Speaker 1: was something that I think is really notable. And I
- 10:37Speaker 1: know I'm talking about intangibles here in our discussion. Whether
- 10:40Speaker 1: it's a momentum, Yeah, whether it's momentum or whether it's
- 10:43Speaker 1: energy from a team, these intangibles, but I think there
- 10:46Speaker 1: is something to be said for a team like the
- 10:48Speaker 1: Knicks that got to where they were at. They even
- 10:50Speaker 1: came to Philadelphia with that energy and really, I don't
- 10:54Speaker 1: I hate saying like took over the Wells Fargo Center,
- 10:57Speaker 1: but their presence was very very well known in the
- 11:00Speaker 1: Wells Argo Center and overpowering and that energy, if it
- 11:05Speaker 1: can remain consistent throughout the course of this season, it's
- 11:08Speaker 1: one of the reasons why I believe that they are
- 11:11Speaker 1: going to be in the Eastern Conference Finals for sure.
- 11:14Speaker 1: I mean, that energy, if they have it, it's going
- 11:17Speaker 1: to be there for sure. And again, I know I'm
- 11:18Speaker 1: talking in tangibles, but yeah, it's one of the reasons
- 11:20Speaker 1: I think the Knicks are really going to go far
- 11:22Speaker 1: this year.
- 11:23Speaker 3: But it's also one of the reasons why I'm kind
- 11:24Speaker 3: of scared because you got rid of Julius Randall, Dante DiVincenzo,
- 11:27Speaker 3: and I say, your Hertenstein and those are big, you know,
- 11:30Speaker 3: contributors to that energy had that identity right, So for me,
- 11:34Speaker 3: it's like you get Karl Anthony Towns, but kel Bridges
- 11:37Speaker 3: comes in. It's not like they're bad players, but it's
- 11:38Speaker 3: like this team doesn't have the same We're gonna grab
- 11:41Speaker 3: every offensive board, We're gonna out tough you because, to.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Be honest with you, the Sixers weren't a soft team
- 11:46Speaker 2: last year, right.
- 11:47Speaker 3: It wasn't like two years ago when the Knicks punk
- 11:49Speaker 3: Akaz because Jared Allen and Evan Mobley were soft. It's
- 11:52Speaker 3: like the Sixers are team that like will punch you
- 11:54Speaker 3: in the mouth if they have to.
- 11:55Speaker 2: The Knicks were just psychotic on the boards.
- 11:57Speaker 3: They were just it was you know, that was their branding,
- 12:00Speaker 3: that was their their identity.
- 12:02Speaker 2: And I don't know if they have that in them anymore.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Not same they don't. I just have to see it.
- 12:06Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, there's too much there's too much turnover
- 12:10Speaker 3: for me for me to think that's their identity. But
- 12:13Speaker 3: if they can keep that I identity, I agree with
- 12:14Speaker 3: you because I think that's the way you beat Boston.
- 12:17Speaker 2: You can't out finesse Boston. You have to punch him
- 12:18Speaker 2: in the mouth.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Yep, absolutely again, folks. Talking to Josh Rodriguez from The
- 12:23Speaker 1: Dime with Josh and Quab great great podcast. I subscribe
- 12:27Speaker 1: on Apple Podcasts. You should subscribe on whatever podcast platform
- 12:30Speaker 1: you are listening to us on and give Josh a
- 12:33Speaker 1: follow on the Twitter. Slash x at Josh underscore, Rodriguez underscore. Great,
- 12:37Speaker 1: great follow and I wanted to get into this next
- 12:40Speaker 1: storyline with you. It is a Sixers storyline. We got
- 12:44Speaker 1: into it on our show, the open investigation that the
- 12:49Speaker 1: NBA has with regard to Joel Embiid and his playing
- 12:52Speaker 1: time this season. I mean, I mean, it wasn't look,
- 12:56Speaker 1: it wasn't earth shattering that the Sixers plan to cut
- 12:58Speaker 1: back on Embiad's playing time this season. And of course
- 13:02Speaker 1: I am over here rolling my eyes about this, but
- 13:04Speaker 1: I wanted to get your thoughts as someone outside of
- 13:08Speaker 1: Sixers nation, and as I mentioned earlier, somebody who I
- 13:10Speaker 1: think is a very objective individual when it comes to
- 13:14Speaker 1: NBA and houss here, what do you think about this
- 13:17Speaker 1: situation and and even what kind of precedent it may
- 13:20Speaker 1: send through the NBA as kind of like a shockwave.
- 13:23Speaker 1: I don't know, what do you think here?
- 13:24Speaker 3: Everybody does it, every every team does this like it's
- 13:28Speaker 3: like the difference is that Philly came out and said,
- 13:31Speaker 3: we're gonna.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Do this exactly, but your dope.
- 13:33Speaker 5: Everybody robs the bdega, everybody robs the store, but Philly
- 13:36Speaker 5: just raised their hand and says I'm gonna go rob
- 13:38Speaker 5: the store now, And they went and robbed the store,
- 13:40Speaker 5: and that's why they're getting funnished.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Like that's what it feels like.
- 13:42Speaker 5: Yeah, and it's just ridiculous, Like come on, we're gonna
- 13:45Speaker 5: sit here and act like every team doesn't rest their
- 13:48Speaker 5: superstar with some like manufactured injury right an hour before.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Come on, let's let's just stop it. The Sixers were
- 13:55Speaker 2: just being open and honest about it.
- 13:56Speaker 3: Yeah, right, And the NBA's mad because they don't want
- 13:59Speaker 3: anybody thinking that, like this league is soft on these
- 14:02Speaker 3: type of things.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:03Speaker 3: So for me, like it's silly that the Sixers organization
- 14:07Speaker 3: just came out and said it.
- 14:08Speaker 2: They should have known theres of repercussions.
- 14:10Speaker 3: But like, let's not pretend that this is a unique
- 14:13Speaker 3: situation that only the Philadelphia seventy six is are doing.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Everybody's doing it.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Everybody's doing it and have been doing it for quite
- 14:20Speaker 1: some time. Yeah, you know, it really goes Look, we
- 14:22Speaker 1: are not you know, you talk to my co host
- 14:25Speaker 1: Lenn Eric myself, we are not conspiracy theorists at all.
- 14:29Speaker 1: We do not go down rabbit holes, We do not
- 14:31Speaker 1: go down those avenues. But there have been times when
- 14:34Speaker 1: folks have said on this show and pet platform that
- 14:37Speaker 1: it just seems like Adam Silver and the NBA front
- 14:40Speaker 1: offices have an axe to grind with the Sixers, especially
- 14:43Speaker 1: from those Sam Hanky Ara time when the tanking was
- 14:47Speaker 1: happening and it's still continuing process and manifest itself exactly,
- 14:51Speaker 1: And I do wonder if there is some validity to that.
- 14:54Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm you know, you don't have to well,
- 14:56Speaker 1: I mean, if you want to doment on.
- 14:58Speaker 3: It, yeah, I think with six I think Sixers fans
- 15:00Speaker 3: do know this. Joel Embiid is an MVP candidate every year,
- 15:03Speaker 3: and he's help if he's playing, yes, and he's a
- 15:06Speaker 3: money maker and six Ers half nationally televised games because
- 15:09Speaker 3: Joel Embiad is Joel Embiat and if he's not playing,
- 15:12Speaker 3: that means less money for the league, that means less
- 15:14Speaker 3: eyes on the product. And you're taking away a team
- 15:17Speaker 3: at Philadelphia market with a fantastic fan base. Say what
- 15:20Speaker 3: you want about them, but you guys show up for
- 15:22Speaker 3: your team and you root for your team and root
- 15:23Speaker 3: hard for your team. So it's it's hurting the NBA
- 15:26Speaker 3: in that aspect. So for me, I think that's where
- 15:28Speaker 3: it's coming from. I don't necessarily think it's like we're
- 15:30Speaker 3: going to punish you for the process, but but I
- 15:32Speaker 3: do think it's like, Hey, you just so happen to
- 15:34Speaker 3: have one of the best centers of all time on
- 15:36Speaker 3: your team, one of the top three players when he's
- 15:39Speaker 3: when he's healthy, on your team, and you know the
- 15:42Speaker 3: league wants to see him on the floor.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Yep. Absolutely. All right. Well, before I let you go here, Josh,
- 15:47Speaker 1: I want to get into some of these NBA overreactions
- 15:51Speaker 1: here after Week one, some things that I've been seeing online,
- 15:54Speaker 1: some things that folks have been saying as well. First
- 15:57Speaker 1: and foremost, the Hornets are this year, there's a surprise team,
- 16:01Speaker 1: and seeing a lot of social media posts, has been
- 16:02Speaker 1: some articles written about this throughout the week. What are
- 16:05Speaker 1: your thoughts in terms of that being an NBA overreaction?
- 16:08Speaker 1: Are they have the surprise team this year?
- 16:10Speaker 3: I think they're a surprise team in the sense that
- 16:12Speaker 3: I think they're going to be better than everyone thought
- 16:13Speaker 3: they were going to be. Okay, I don't think they
- 16:15Speaker 3: pull out Orlando Magic and make the playoffs.
- 16:18Speaker 2: But Charles Lee's a new head coach. You know, the
- 16:20Speaker 2: week he was hired.
- 16:21Speaker 3: They posted some promotional video about how he just him
- 16:24Speaker 3: in practice and the way he was talking to the
- 16:26Speaker 3: team and having them communicate.
- 16:28Speaker 2: I saw a video the other day where Trey Mann
- 16:31Speaker 2: went for a layup.
- 16:32Speaker 3: He fell and he tapped LaMelo Ball on the shoulders said,
- 16:34Speaker 3: go help your teammate up. Yeah, so there's a culture, yeah, Charlotte.
- 16:39Speaker 3: If there's one thing about the Hornets that you can
- 16:40Speaker 3: say for the past few years, it's like they don't
- 16:41Speaker 3: have an identity at all. Right, Like when you think
- 16:44Speaker 3: Charles Hornet's basket, what do you think? You don't think anything? Right,
- 16:47Speaker 3: So I think Charles Lee's in there, and I think
- 16:49Speaker 3: he's trying to build a culture. I don't think they
- 16:52Speaker 3: have enough talent to make any waves in the East,
- 16:54Speaker 3: but I do think if you sleep on them and
- 16:56Speaker 3: they're healthy, you know, LaMelo plays and all that, and
- 16:59Speaker 3: they're healthy, you're gonna lose.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Yep. All right, what about this next overreaction that I've seen?
- 17:04Speaker 1: And I was a little surprised with the Victor Women
- 17:07Speaker 1: Yana NBA that he's gonna be taken over the NBA. Uh,
- 17:11Speaker 1: And it's gonna have to wait, though it's gonna have
- 17:13Speaker 1: to wait another year. So we know they struggled in
- 17:16Speaker 1: the season opener against the MAVs, and we also know
- 17:19Speaker 1: to the Spurs they really didn't do too much in
- 17:21Speaker 1: the off season to really, you know, make a meaningful
- 17:24Speaker 1: leap in the standings. What are your thoughts on this
- 17:26Speaker 1: overreaction that Wemby is gonna have to wait another year
- 17:30Speaker 1: before he has that NBA takeover.
- 17:33Speaker 3: I just think it's interesting that people were expecting him
- 17:34Speaker 3: to take over at the age of twenty Yes, year
- 17:38Speaker 3: two with that to San Antonio Spurs rock, are you
- 17:41Speaker 3: kidding me?
- 17:41Speaker 2: Like, what do you expect?
- 17:43Speaker 3: Really, you expect Wenby to lead a team that's gonna
- 17:46Speaker 3: be better than the Timberwolves or the Nuggets or the Men, Like,
- 17:49Speaker 3: what are you guys thinking? I know we should be
- 17:51Speaker 3: hoping for the for the playing Lebron didn't win a final, so.
- 17:55Speaker 2: It was like seventh or eighth year, what are you
- 17:57Speaker 2: people expecting?
- 17:59Speaker 3: Exactly, he's gonna be fine, and he's gonna have a
- 18:01Speaker 3: fantastic year and he's gonna be an All Star then
- 18:03Speaker 3: to the Defensive Player of the Year because he's that
- 18:05Speaker 3: good defensively. I think people are overreacting if they're thinking
- 18:09Speaker 3: that he's not as good as as people have made
- 18:12Speaker 3: him out to be, because he absolutely is. Ye, just
- 18:14Speaker 3: give him a couple of games. He has a new
- 18:16Speaker 3: point guard in Chris Paul. They played the MAVs and
- 18:18Speaker 3: a Rockets. They beat the Rockets. So it's like, what
- 18:21Speaker 3: are you what are you guys expecting exactly? Are you
- 18:24Speaker 3: expecting the Spurs to win fifty games? Are you out
- 18:26Speaker 3: of your mind?
- 18:26Speaker 1: We live in a society of the instantaneous results.
- 18:31Speaker 2: Twenty years old, we were talking about casino bet. We
- 18:34Speaker 2: could have gamble. He can't go to win Creek and
- 18:37Speaker 2: he plays a bet. He can't drink, he can't do anything.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Oh, I love it. I love it all right. Finally, finally,
- 18:43Speaker 1: in terms of the NBA overreactions, Evan Mobley is finally
- 18:46Speaker 1: gonna make that leap to the next level in echelon
- 18:50Speaker 1: of great NBA players, who you're going to be dominant
- 18:53Speaker 1: for years? What are your thoughts on that?
- 18:55Speaker 3: I don't know if you know this. I wonder if
- 18:57Speaker 3: you you put this question on. I'm like, I don't
- 19:00Speaker 3: know if Jeff. Jeff knows this about me. So I
- 19:03Speaker 3: think Evan Moby's the most over to play in the NBA.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Do you really I didn't know that. No, I actually
- 19:07Speaker 1: didn't know that.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Every time I'm watch him play, I'm like, this is
- 19:11Speaker 3: this is him? Like this is the guy compared to
- 19:14Speaker 3: Kevin Garnett. Like he don't go get me wrong, He's
- 19:16Speaker 3: good defensively, he has his moments. Yeah, he's not bad,
- 19:19Speaker 3: but this like he's going to be a transcendent power
- 19:22Speaker 3: forward superstar.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Like that's no.
- 19:24Speaker 3: Like this this year the Calves have changed their offense
- 19:28Speaker 3: and I haven't watched too much of it, but he's
- 19:29Speaker 3: doing more ball handling and handling it up top and
- 19:32Speaker 3: making more decisions offensively. So maybe the way they changed,
- 19:36Speaker 3: you know, their offense, he might turn into that.
- 19:38Speaker 2: I think he's very talented.
- 19:40Speaker 3: I think he's good defensively, but to put him in
- 19:43Speaker 3: the next level of like great dominant NBA players, I
- 19:47Speaker 3: have not seen any type of any type of sign
- 19:50Speaker 3: that he can do that's.
- 19:51Speaker 2: A solid player.
- 19:52Speaker 1: There are some folks that I've seen say in that
- 19:54Speaker 1: and I was like, really, were.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Just coming from there's no evidence of that.
- 19:59Speaker 3: He has games here and that don't be wrong, but
- 20:01Speaker 3: to be great you have to do it consistent.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Yeah, and he doesn't do that consistently.
- 20:05Speaker 1: You've been talking about On the Dime though, right, because
- 20:08Speaker 1: you've been talking about On the Dime though, right, that
- 20:10Speaker 1: he is overrated. Correct, Yes, yes, okay.
- 20:13Speaker 2: He's the most. To me, he's the most overt play.
