- 2:25Speaker 3: Now is that a good looking guy right there?
- 2:27Speaker 1: What? Well, my brother always says that he's the better
- 2:30Speaker 1: looking one.
- 2:33Speaker 3: No, crazy Carl hat today with a big furry hat.
- 2:35Speaker 1: You know, No, that's a berry Ski Club hat. That's
- 2:38Speaker 1: a big deal. You know the boy you and I
- 2:41Speaker 1: look today. I'm wearing my rotary hat.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Yes you are. You know you wear many hats too.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Don't you.
- 2:46Speaker 4: That's a good point, I really do. The very art
- 2:51Speaker 4: splash is something that has done every couple of years, yep,
- 2:56Speaker 4: every other year, and the reason why is because it
- 2:59Speaker 4: just takes so long to pull off an event like this.
- 3:02Speaker 4: I mean, obviously, I mean, I mean just the artwork
- 3:06Speaker 4: alone is a huge undertaking.
- 3:09Speaker 3: That's a huge, huge deal.
- 3:11Speaker 1: It takes the artis a long time to decorate these items.
- 3:14Speaker 1: They work, you know, all winter long. Yeah, some of
- 3:17Speaker 1: them spend over one hundred dollars. The other interesting thing
- 3:22Speaker 1: is that they have trouble eating when they're decorating, because
- 3:25Speaker 1: a lot of them do it on their kitchen table. Yeah.
- 3:27Speaker 3: No, you're serious, You're serious.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Oh yeah. I've been in their homes and they're they're
- 3:33Speaker 1: in there working away on the thing, and they say,
- 3:35Speaker 1: I'll be glad when I get this done, so I
- 3:37Speaker 1: can go back to using my table to eat instead
- 3:39Speaker 1: of decorating cats and dogs and chimpanzees. Chimpanzees.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Should we start out with the chimpanzees this.
- 3:46Speaker 1: While, because I'm looking at one right now.
- 3:49Speaker 3: By the way, Shirley Potter says, she remembers when you
- 3:51Speaker 3: were young and handsome. Wow, thanks a lot serily.
- 3:55Speaker 4: Wow, Crystal says, oh my god, I haven't seen Carl Rinker.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Christal Merrill, haven't seen Carl Rinker in forever good man.
- 4:04Speaker 4: I used to work for him years and years ago,
- 4:06Speaker 4: so she's.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Probably lucky not to see me.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Let's start out on the front side of this guy.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, well, why don't you just show that first
- 4:15Speaker 1: so we'll see what we got here. Yeah, this is
- 4:18Speaker 1: so cool man. Check out this grantited Carrara.
- 4:20Speaker 4: This is one of the first ones that I noticed.
- 4:25Speaker 4: This is so so cool. Hey, should we give me
- 4:27Speaker 4: a before we even start this morning, Let's give a
- 4:29Speaker 4: shout out to Lloyd Hutchins. Yes, we lost him, what
- 4:35Speaker 4: about a year ago.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Yeah, and we're kind of dedicating this year's auction to
- 4:41Speaker 1: the memory of Lloyd Hutchins for the very arch splash. Yeah. Yeah,
- 4:44Speaker 1: great guy. He's done so much.
- 4:46Speaker 4: He was responsible for getting you the thirty two's and
- 4:51Speaker 4: thirty four coops.
- 4:52Speaker 1: He was responsible for providing the real race cars. Yeah,
- 4:56Speaker 1: the real punch of the real race cars that we
- 5:00Speaker 1: using to manufacture the molds, and of course those molds
- 5:04Speaker 1: and those race cars are all made right here in Barry,
- 5:07Speaker 1: which helps to keep jobs here in Berry. So there's
- 5:10Speaker 1: a little side thing of this over and above a
- 5:13Speaker 1: fundraiser for the Barry Rotary Club bringing people into town.
- 5:16Speaker 1: But Lloyd hutchins a great man, very knowledgeable. He was
- 5:19Speaker 1: instrumental in starting the New England Racing Museum over in Hampshire. Yeah,
- 5:24Speaker 1: he was instrumental and actually hands on building of Thunder
- 5:27Speaker 1: Road back in nineteen sixty. So he's a career race
- 5:33Speaker 1: car fan, always involved with it. He loved the sport.
- 5:38Speaker 1: He used to race himself, he used to own race cars.
- 5:40Speaker 1: But he just went out of his way to help
- 5:42Speaker 1: the Burry Art Rotary arts Lash. We added rotary to it.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Used to call it Barry arts Lash now without very
- 5:48Speaker 1: well it should be the Rotary because that's what that
- 5:51Speaker 1: was the inception of all of this year.
- 5:53Speaker 4: As I said last night, you're the brainchild to this.
- 5:56Speaker 4: This was a fundraising idea that you had which has
- 6:02Speaker 4: absolutely exploded.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Over the last couple of years.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Carl and I don't know how much money has been
- 6:09Speaker 4: pulled in for for Rotary, but this is a malt
- 6:14Speaker 4: multi faceted win for so many people in so many
- 6:19Speaker 4: different ways. It's like a win win win win win,
- 6:22Speaker 4: like you just said you were talking about jobs. I
- 6:25Speaker 4: mean there's art. I mean people get to enjoy it.
- 6:28Speaker 4: Brings in tourists, people get to enjoy they take pictures.
- 6:32Speaker 1: You've got.
- 6:35Speaker 4: You've got scavenger hunts going on, you've got people's choice towards.
- 6:41Speaker 4: You've got businesses that benefit from this. This is so cool, man.
- 6:45Speaker 4: So let's yeah, let's walk around.
- 6:46Speaker 1: So you know, well, just quickly, the very Rotary Club
- 6:50Speaker 1: just had a Pie for Brunch event where we gave
- 6:53Speaker 1: away ten thousand dollars. And of course the ten thousand
- 6:56Speaker 1: dollars came from the Rotary Art Slash and different groups
- 7:01Speaker 1: in town were awarded those funds and we enjoyed giving
- 7:05Speaker 1: the funds out and we enjoy earning those funds at
- 7:10Speaker 1: our auction, which this year will take place on September
- 7:12Speaker 1: sixth at the Vermont Grant Museum at three o'clock. So
- 7:16Speaker 1: the brochures are out, they're in the stores. People can
- 7:18Speaker 1: pick up a brochure. Actually, let me see it here
- 7:21Speaker 1: for a second. This is the twenty twenty five brochure
- 7:26Speaker 1: and the map and of course it tells the artist,
- 7:28Speaker 1: it tells the sponsor, tells the location of the art item,
- 7:32Speaker 1: and be aware, folks. I did move a couple art
- 7:35Speaker 1: items from where they're projected on the map for various reasons.
- 7:41Speaker 1: They're within one hundred feet or so where they're supposed
- 7:43Speaker 1: to be, but they did get moved around a little bit.
- 7:45Speaker 1: But back to this animal over here. So to the
- 7:49Speaker 1: fans out there, I want people to tell us if
- 7:52Speaker 1: they know what the difference is between a monkey and
- 7:54Speaker 1: a chimpanzee. This guy is a chimpanzee. So let's walk around,
- 8:01Speaker 1: show the whole granite carver. This is done by an
- 8:06Speaker 1: artist down in Virginia named Liz Martin, and she remembers
- 8:11Speaker 1: the Mutua. I don't know if you can zoom in
- 8:13Speaker 1: on that or not sure, So this is the pitch
- 8:16Speaker 1: tournament down into Mutua. We got some Italian names Sierra Calcani.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Can't quite read that one, but oh chipto, barbariery, oh Barbari, Barbari.
- 8:28Speaker 2: So she did a wonderful job decorating this.
- 8:31Speaker 1: So if people can tell us what's the difference between
- 8:33Speaker 1: a chimpanzee and a monkey, we'll go from there.
- 8:37Speaker 4: All right, And we've talked about this before, and you've
- 8:42Speaker 4: you taught me what it was, and now I can't
- 8:44Speaker 4: remember first, but we're coming up on ginger noodles. The
- 8:50Speaker 4: artist is Cynthia Christensen. Mattress Land is the sponsor a
- 8:56Speaker 4: little bell here.
- 8:57Speaker 1: It's kind of hard to shake this guy, but if
- 8:59Speaker 1: he's off his stand and you shake them, there's actually
- 9:01Speaker 1: a bell in there that will ridden. But look at
- 9:05Speaker 1: the hundreds of art items that she is incredible placed on.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Ginger noodles. Just a beautiful dog.
- 9:12Speaker 4: And again these are all going to be auctioned off
- 9:15Speaker 4: September sixth at the Very Granite Museum.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Wow, what incredible. I was just going to say, we're
- 9:22Speaker 1: just right here in front of the ar Market, just
- 9:24Speaker 1: to give folks a reference on where we're located. Yep.
- 9:27Speaker 1: And we're gonna head down here. And of course in
- 9:29Speaker 1: the ar Market they have Vermont Salumi yep. And it's
- 9:33Speaker 1: appropriate that we have some pork out front, of course,
- 9:37Speaker 1: why not. Here's pigaso by artist Miranda los On. Miranda
- 9:46Speaker 1: Miranda los On, the mayor's daughter. Yeah, isn't that a
- 9:50Speaker 1: beautiful pig? Amazing?
- 9:54Speaker 3: You mentioned having something like this on display in your home.
- 10:00Speaker 3: You know, what a what a centerpiece.
- 10:02Speaker 1: My guess is that this it's cool man, so we'll
- 10:05Speaker 1: head along. Uh any responses on our chimpanzee monkey question? Uh?
- 10:10Speaker 3: Yeah, detail, there is the tail.
- 10:13Speaker 1: There is a oh they said, who said, Michael A. Bernier? Ah,
- 10:16Speaker 1: there you go do not? All right? Yeah, no tail
- 10:23Speaker 1: want a chimpanzee? Really, So that's the Differ City monkey.
- 10:27Speaker 1: So she gets a high five prize.
- 10:31Speaker 3: There's the high five tail.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Great job.
- 10:35Speaker 2: So here's the dealer.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Linda Canari has been involved with this project for a
- 10:39Speaker 1: long time, and Lloyd Hutchins's wife Nancy is the sponsor
- 10:42Speaker 1: on this one. He's got the cards going right, got
- 10:47Speaker 1: the ace in there. She made the stokey. And keep
- 10:51Speaker 1: in mind, folks, look at that. Look at the fire here, Berne.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Oh yeah, he's he's sucking on the stokey. All right.
- 10:59Speaker 1: So but everything you see on this the artist adds
- 11:01Speaker 1: on to it. The hat, the stogy, the cards, the wristbands. Everything.
- 11:08Speaker 1: This just came as a bare naked chimpanzee and they
- 11:11Speaker 1: spent unbelievable hours decorating. Yeah that's crazy. Look at look
- 11:16Speaker 1: at this. Look at the detail. Wow, man, look.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Look at the Look at the card in here.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Oh yeah, get an ace in there. That's called a
- 11:25Speaker 1: n ace in the hole. Look at this? Oh yeah,
- 11:33Speaker 1: So the thing is, folks, you got to come down
- 11:35Speaker 1: on the street and walk along to see them up close,
- 11:37Speaker 1: because you don't get the idea when you're driving down
- 11:39Speaker 1: the road.
- 11:40Speaker 2: In your car.
- 11:40Speaker 3: Will there be a scavenger hunt this year?
- 11:43Speaker 1: Yes? There will?
- 11:44Speaker 4: Uh.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Stephanie Kingsett is drawing up those questions as we speak.
- 11:48Speaker 3: She's over at Barry City School.
- 11:50Speaker 1: No, I think she's at Barry Town School. And she
- 11:53Speaker 1: does those each year for us. She does a wonderful
- 11:56Speaker 1: job with it. And then we try to give out
- 11:58Speaker 1: an ice cream to the folks that do this avenger hut.
- 12:01Speaker 1: So we got Tony Caluccio. Here a little cook story
- 12:05Speaker 1: about Tony. He won a race and he was so
- 12:09Speaker 1: excited because he won this big race. He get out
- 12:11Speaker 1: on the hood of the car and he jumped up
- 12:13Speaker 1: and down and he dented the hood in Look at that.
- 12:22Speaker 3: I didn't need, Carl.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Can you believe that? Is that exciting or what?
- 12:27Speaker 1: Dude?
- 12:28Speaker 3: That's crazy?
- 12:30Speaker 2: Of course, when the coop, I love this.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Everything's got a story exactly.
- 12:35Speaker 1: When these cars raced, you'll notice they don't have a
- 12:37Speaker 1: lot of graphics on them. They don't have a lot
- 12:39Speaker 1: of sponsors. They hadn't thought of that yet back in
- 12:41Speaker 1: nineteen sixty one, two, three, four five. Whereas the new
- 12:45Speaker 1: modern cars, we'll get to them down the street. The
- 12:47Speaker 1: new modern cars have a zillion sponsors. Sure everything's on there, man,
- 12:54Speaker 1: And that's Kathy Rabinhorset Adams Miles Supply was a sponsor
- 12:58Speaker 1: on that one. And we're coming up on something new
- 13:02Speaker 1: this year. A thunder Road back in the seventies had
- 13:05Speaker 1: a special class of cars that they call the mini stocks,
- 13:10Speaker 1: you know, compared to the Koops or the late models.
- 13:13Speaker 1: And these Volkswagons were modeled after the mini stocks that
- 13:16Speaker 1: race at thunder Road. Now, this particular one is not
- 13:20Speaker 1: an individual driver. It was just decorated by the artist
- 13:23Speaker 1: however she wanted to do it. It's Stephanie Hutchins as
- 13:25Speaker 1: the artist, and she just made it into a blazing woody.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Don't you love the exhaust pipe.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Well, that's what the race car drivers put on them.
- 13:38Speaker 1: They elevated the bonnets to get air in there when
- 13:41Speaker 1: they raced these cars, and then of course put the
- 13:45Speaker 1: exhaust out the back to get a better flow so
- 13:47Speaker 1: the car would go faster. Right here, Yes, that's been
- 13:50Speaker 1: elevated out to get air in there.
- 13:52Speaker 2: The original true Volkswagon would have had that flush flush.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Yeah. I love that. Lots of detail. Loved this. Wow.
- 14:02Speaker 1: So there you go.
- 14:04Speaker 4: You got a buddy of mine who's got a sixty seven.
- 14:09Speaker 3: Bug Oh convertible.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Oh nice.
- 14:12Speaker 4: They only made about four thousand of those, the convertibles.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Yeah, but convertibles.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Ah, I've got one. Yeah, it's it's uh yeah, it's
- 14:20Speaker 1: quite a car. So so we're over here in front
- 14:23Speaker 1: of the Berry Social Club yep, new business in town.
- 14:27Speaker 1: And this is the late Model I was talking about.
- 14:30Speaker 1: So that's what the late models look like because they
- 14:32Speaker 1: down the road. This is Mark Lampbeer. The artist is
- 14:36Speaker 1: Jason Pelke, and the sponsor's Lampeer Motorsports. And all the
- 14:41Speaker 1: drivers are still alive and autographed these cars. Sorry, so.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Cameras, Oh that's mine.
- 14:50Speaker 1: I didn't realize it was dine. Oh hold on here,
- 14:53Speaker 1: I'll hold this. You clip that back on. Yeah, okay,
- 14:56Speaker 1: we've got a little U technical technical calendar. We're good.
- 15:00Speaker 1: We're good. So here's the autograph of the race car driver.
- 15:04Speaker 1: And that's pretty important because it makes the cars more valuable.
- 15:07Speaker 1: I think. Yeah. Pretty cool, of course, pretty cool. Huh. Yeah,
- 15:12Speaker 1: it's permanent. I love that. Yeah. I just starting to
- 15:16Speaker 1: see the sponsors here. Yeah, this is a little bit
- 15:19Speaker 1: older car, but some of the ones that have been
- 15:22Speaker 1: racing in the last four or five years, they've got
- 15:25Speaker 1: a zillion things on them. I love it, man.
- 15:28Speaker 2: This one is quite a while back.
- 15:30Speaker 3: And they're big cars, man, I mean all of these
- 15:34Speaker 3: these these art pieces.
- 15:36Speaker 4: Like when you drive down the road and you're looking
- 15:38Speaker 4: at them at a glance real fast, you don't realize
- 15:41Speaker 4: how big they are until you're right up on them.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Yeah that's true. That's true. So we're just heading down
- 15:47Speaker 1: to our day dot right here in front of Tasty
- 15:50Speaker 1: Tasty Bites diner, new business in town.
- 15:53Speaker 2: And I don't know if Lisa's in there or not.
- 15:55Speaker 1: What day is today?
- 15:56Speaker 2: Tuesday, Today's Yeah, she should be.
- 16:00Speaker 1: There, but check this or out. So interesting thing about
- 16:04Speaker 1: this artist, she's only about twelve years old. What the
- 16:08Speaker 1: artist that did this? Nelly King mob blows a sponsor.
- 16:12Speaker 1: And of course you remember the movie Men in Black. Yeah, yeah, yell,
- 16:15Speaker 1: this is quacking black.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Now who comes up with the names the arts?
- 16:21Speaker 1: Really? The artist? Yeap?
- 16:24Speaker 2: Look at the detail and of course.
- 16:26Speaker 1: She fabricates all this by hand. In other words, this
- 16:30Speaker 1: was just a smooth duck when she got it, and
- 16:33Speaker 1: she has to put the buttons on it, she puts
- 16:36Speaker 1: the tie on it, each little detail as she decorates it.
- 16:40Speaker 4: It's fantastic, Carl, I gotta tell you, man, this is
- 16:43Speaker 4: one of my favorites. And it's not just because not
- 16:46Speaker 4: just because a little kid did it, but.
- 16:48Speaker 3: I just I really love it. I do love to
- 16:51Speaker 3: have something like that.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Each art, it don't know, has its own story, sure,
- 16:56Speaker 1: and that's what's exciting about it.
- 16:59Speaker 2: The theme as they come up with the ideas.
- 17:02Speaker 1: And this, believe it or not, is her dad, Roger King,
- 17:06Speaker 1: So it's a family event. Dad does a Jim fanzee
- 17:10Speaker 1: and the daughter does a duck. And this course is
- 17:14Speaker 1: catching if you can what was his number on the
- 17:17Speaker 1: back there? This this syndicates us certainty one thirty one,
- 17:21Speaker 1: So I'm not sure catch it at the ken, I'm
- 17:25Speaker 1: not sure who the player is. The other thing we're
- 17:28Speaker 1: looking for is folks to come out and wash these things.
- 17:30Speaker 1: We get them washed three times a week. I know,
- 17:32Speaker 1: I see you guys do that. Yeah, we've got somebody
- 17:34Speaker 1: for Tuesdays and Thursdays. But we need some folks for
- 17:37Speaker 1: Saturday mornings. Okay, So anybody wants to volunteer, get in
- 17:40Speaker 1: touch with that.
- 17:41Speaker 3: So how does that work?
- 17:42Speaker 1: Just get in touch with you and then you give.
- 17:44Speaker 4: Them all the cleaning supplies and like a little wagon
- 17:47Speaker 4: to roll around with.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll show you the wagon in a minute, but
- 17:50Speaker 1: just call.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Let's give a shout out to this guy right here.
- 17:53Speaker 4: I mean one of my presenting sponsors has been for
- 17:56Speaker 4: a long time.
- 17:57Speaker 3: Oh good, John's great guy Johnson there somewhere he and
- 18:01Speaker 3: Lily his.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Black lab.
- 18:05Speaker 3: I just love these people. They're just so great. They
- 18:08Speaker 3: worked so hard.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Yeah, So if anybody's interested in washing the art items,
- 18:14Speaker 1: call me four seven nine and one two four o
- 18:16Speaker 1: four seven nine zero one two four or if you
- 18:20Speaker 1: have questions about the art project, feel free to call me.
- 18:24Speaker 1: So this one's in memory of Captain Jeremy Jeff Farnham.
- 18:30Speaker 1: He died in a mishap a while back. So the
- 18:35Speaker 1: sponsor is the Washington Volunteer Fire Department and the artist
- 18:39Speaker 1: is Jan Spargo, and she's heavily involved in this project
- 18:42Speaker 1: now is a rotarian and hopefully someday she'll be taking
- 18:45Speaker 1: over from me. Actually, but so everything you see on
- 18:48Speaker 1: this she had to add on the airpack, the breathing apparatus.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Just look at the detail. Pretty intricate, wins you.
- 19:01Speaker 4: Say, I mean even down to like the fibers.
- 19:10Speaker 1: In the strap.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Yes, every detail.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Then it takes hours and hours for them to fabricate
- 19:17Speaker 1: these items and get them on there and then get
- 19:19Speaker 1: them decorated properly. And this is a sitting bear, mid
- 19:25Speaker 1: size sitting bear. We have this size, and we have
- 19:28Speaker 1: some larger ones sitting, and then we have the standing bears.
- 19:33Speaker 2: We'll get to which way you wanting to go?
- 19:35Speaker 1: Let's go this way? Yeah, but which yeah? And just
- 19:40Speaker 1: I mean, what have we got.
- 19:41Speaker 4: We've got dogs, cats, bears, ducks, trade fars, chimpanzees or
- 19:47Speaker 4: laying models.
- 19:48Speaker 1: We got the thirty two coops and thirty four coops.
- 19:52Speaker 1: So over here Cooper mcabritchie all artist, Chris Ford Green
- 19:55Speaker 1: Mountain Paving as a sponsor. So now you're starting to
- 19:57Speaker 1: see a lot more advertising on the car. Sure, Lowry's
- 20:01Speaker 1: Auto Sales, of course, was the sponsor of the original
- 20:03Speaker 1: real race car.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Look at the detail.
- 20:10Speaker 1: This is insane, man. So it takes, like I said,
- 20:13Speaker 1: the artists take a while to decorate these things Subway.
- 20:18Speaker 1: It's appropriate Subways just down the street. And they were
- 20:21Speaker 1: the sponsor of the original car, so when they paid
- 20:24Speaker 1: to sponsor this real race car, now they're getting free
- 20:27Speaker 1: advertising out here on.
- 20:28Speaker 3: The shot and will forever.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I love yeah, as long as that car goes somewhere.
- 20:34Speaker 3: This one really got my attention.
- 20:36Speaker 1: This was done by an artist up in Montreal. Noah
- 20:40Speaker 1: Ruble is studying art and up in the college in Montreal.
- 20:43Speaker 1: And Ruthier Auto Center is a sponsor on this one.
- 20:46Speaker 1: But Noah did a wonderful job. I'm not a big
- 20:51Speaker 1: Boxer dog fan per se, but I think he did
- 20:54Speaker 1: a beautiful job decorating this. I love boxers. I mean,
- 20:58Speaker 1: just look at the face, you know what I mean?
- 21:00Speaker 1: With a face like that, what do you think kind
- 21:06Speaker 1: of neat? Good morning to you, amazing Carl.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Wow. And again these are all going to be.
- 21:16Speaker 4: Auctioned off September sixth, Salty Granite Museuman's Barry.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Here we are at Wabi's and so I don't know
- 21:24Speaker 1: if we can peek in the window here, but there's
- 21:26Speaker 1: a little Barry Art splash wagon, a little red wagon
- 21:30Speaker 1: that the people that wash use and you can see
- 21:32Speaker 1: it's all set up with vests and pumps, yep buckets, washmints,
- 21:36Speaker 1: salty easy.
- 21:38Speaker 2: It makes it real easy to go around and wash them.
- 21:40Speaker 3: And it's it gets dusty, it gets dirty.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's just normal thing on the street. This
- 21:45Speaker 1: is Hiking with Jim by Cydy Griffith and of course
- 21:48Speaker 1: Wabi Jewelers Richard Wabi Jewelers is the sponsor. But look
- 21:52Speaker 1: at the detail. Look at the detail. I mean, this
- 21:56Speaker 1: dog is set to go. It's going hiking. Got the
- 22:01Speaker 1: map up here. I don't know if you can see
- 22:03Speaker 1: the detail on the map.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Carl got the straps.
- 22:11Speaker 1: This is a roll up to sleep on at night.
- 22:14Speaker 1: We'll go around the other side.
- 22:18Speaker 2: So hiking with Jim.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Jim's got a tag, Dog's got everything. I'll give you
- 22:29Speaker 1: an example. This tongue did not come this long on
- 22:32Speaker 1: the original dog. The artist extended up. Yeah, but you
- 22:36Speaker 1: would never know. You would just think it's part of
- 22:38Speaker 1: the original dog. If she just is such a wonderful
- 22:42Speaker 1: job on this.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Check out the boots, the hiking boots.
- 22:48Speaker 4: I've been asked, Carl, if some of these artists can make.
- 22:56Speaker 2: One of these, they'll they'll do it for people on consignment. Yeah,
- 23:03Speaker 2: that's what that's what I'm true. Yes, yeah, they can.
- 23:06Speaker 1: People can buy the cars from the Berry Rotary Club
- 23:08Speaker 1: or a dog or the art items yep, and then
- 23:12Speaker 1: contract with the artists to do it. So this one.
- 23:16Speaker 1: I don't know how many people follow the Bruins, but
- 23:20Speaker 1: Tim Thomas played for the Bruins for eight years. Played
- 23:23Speaker 1: for the University of Vermont. He was a goalie. They
- 23:26Speaker 1: won the Stanley Cup while he was there, and he
- 23:29Speaker 1: was kind enough to autograph it for me. You can
- 23:33Speaker 1: see his video of him autographing this bear on our
- 23:37Speaker 1: very Rotary Club website, which is Barryvt Rotary dot com.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Just go to the twenty twenty five art splash and
- 23:43Speaker 1: the yellow banner on the homepage. Pretty impressive, isn't it.
- 23:48Speaker 3: He must have been blown away when he saw this.
- 23:51Speaker 1: He was, he was. I mean his eyes are just
- 23:54Speaker 1: like that too. That's of course. I met him for
- 23:56Speaker 1: the first time when he put the autograph on for me,
- 23:59Speaker 1: and that was pretty exciting. But he's a great guy
- 24:03Speaker 1: and he was just so kind to come and autograph it,
- 24:07Speaker 1: and that should push the value of this burea up
- 24:10Speaker 1: quite a bit. Absolutely, Are you kidding? That's so great.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Oh wait a minute, hold on just a second. I
- 24:18Speaker 1: wanted to see. Alison Randall is the artist on this
- 24:22Speaker 1: one air auto is the Morning Jimmy, How you doing good? Good? Wow?
- 24:28Speaker 1: So that's kind of exciting. Uh get somebody, uh that's
- 24:32Speaker 1: well known like that to put an autograph. And all
- 24:35Speaker 1: the race cars are autographed, as I said before, but
- 24:37Speaker 1: if the driver is still alive. We do have one
- 24:41Speaker 1: car that's not autographed yet. He's still in Florida, but
- 24:43Speaker 1: he'll come up a little while and do it. This
- 24:45Speaker 1: is Harold hard Block Canterford and Melody Harvest is the
- 24:49Speaker 1: artist granted financial group and we're right in front of
- 24:52Speaker 1: their building here. They have a connection to uh Sart Automobiles. Wow,
- 25:03Speaker 1: Putnam real Estate Holderness New Hampshire. Not even sure if
- 25:07Speaker 1: they're still around. We'll get that. But keep in mind
- 25:10Speaker 1: this car raced in the early sixties. Look at the
- 25:12Speaker 1: detail on the engine. Now this is where Lloyd Hutchins
- 25:16Speaker 1: came into play in that he had some of these
- 25:18Speaker 1: real cars and Arcana Shop up in Jockey Hollow is
- 25:23Speaker 1: the manufacturer of these cars, and they went right to
- 25:26Speaker 1: the real car, they measured it, they took videos of it,
- 25:29Speaker 1: got it digitized, and here's the final product technology.
- 25:32Speaker 3: Man, And look at even the brakes here pocket, Look.
- 25:36Speaker 1: At well, look at the difference between this wheel and
- 25:38Speaker 1: this wheel. This one's offset to race it thunder road?
- 25:41Speaker 3: Who whoa show that again?
- 25:42Speaker 1: Show that? Okay? So see the offset here where the
- 25:46Speaker 1: tires stuck out a little bit. Look on this side
- 25:48Speaker 1: you'll notice it's not that way. So remember these cars
- 25:52Speaker 1: that's down the road go round and round counter clockwise,
- 25:55Speaker 1: so they offset that tire to give.
- 25:57Speaker 2: The car more stabilities. It goes around the corner.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Little things like that. That's right.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Who notices them?
- 26:05Speaker 1: So I'll tell you who notices them, the people that
- 26:09Speaker 1: there's a lot of interest in race cars because you've
- 26:11Speaker 1: got the race.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Car owner, you got the driver, you got the pit crew,
- 26:14Speaker 2: you got the fans.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Okay, can you tell me what this bear is all
- 26:17Speaker 1: about just by looking at it? T one D? Yeah,
- 26:21Speaker 1: T one D.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Have you figured it out yet?
- 26:23Speaker 1: No? Okay, Well come back over here for a second.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Take a peek right here. Oh wow. So for folks
- 26:33Speaker 1: that are diabetics, type one diabetes, So this bear is
- 26:37Speaker 1: named T one D type one diabetes, and the reason
- 26:42Speaker 1: is because the sponsor, which is VDM Law but specifically
- 26:47Speaker 1: John Velson Jacamo, happens to be a diabetic and the artist,
- 26:51Speaker 1: Giuliano Checkinelli is a diabetic, so the two of them
- 26:56Speaker 1: came up with the theme together, and then the artists
- 26:59Speaker 1: decorated this bear. And again you know, it looks simple
- 27:04Speaker 1: when you see it on the video, but this vest
- 27:06Speaker 1: has been added on after the fact by the artist
- 27:09Speaker 1: by hand. Can you believe that right here? Yep, that
- 27:13Speaker 1: whole vest is something that he adds on by hand.
- 27:17Speaker 1: And they use certain epoxies, they use bondo sometimes, the
- 27:22Speaker 1: artists use a lot of different types of things. Carl,
- 27:26Speaker 1: this is unreal. I love that. Let me see the
- 27:30Speaker 1: Let me see a camera for just a second. Come
- 27:32Speaker 1: back over, let me see because I'm reaching this a
- 27:34Speaker 1: little bit higher by I just want to show the
- 27:36Speaker 1: hat up there, you know, the t one. Yeah, so
- 27:39Speaker 1: you get some detail up there. And the artist's autographed.
- 27:45Speaker 1: The art items as a rule, quite a bear. Huh.
- 27:49Speaker 1: That's incredible. And of course we're right here in front
- 27:53Speaker 1: of where a VD LAW is upstairs over Nelson Brothers
- 27:57Speaker 1: another car Paul Donohue, that's a racing family. Grandfathers sons,
- 28:03Speaker 1: grandsons all race.
- 28:06Speaker 2: This was done back in the day. Artist is Jason Kelke.
- 28:09Speaker 1: And Lowriatto Sales is the sponsor on this particular car.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Of course, it's us what.
- 28:16Speaker 1: It's going to go for some some point, some big Well.
- 28:19Speaker 1: I already know some people that are going to be
- 28:21Speaker 1: bidding on a lot of these different art items.
- 28:24Speaker 3: And what a fun day is.
- 28:26Speaker 4: I mean even if you you know, even if you
- 28:28Speaker 4: don't want to bid, even if you know, just go
- 28:31Speaker 4: and enjoy some more dirvs and yep and free ours.
- 28:35Speaker 3: Yeah, just just watch it all happen.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Yeah. So the program is such that we at the
- 28:42Speaker 1: Bury Roary Club get the sponsors and then we go
- 28:46Speaker 1: out and get the artists. We don't pay the artists
- 28:47Speaker 1: to decorate the art item, but the artist does get
- 28:51Speaker 1: thirty percent of the high date at the auction. Okay,
- 28:53Speaker 1: so that's how the artist gets rewarded. But basically they're
- 28:57Speaker 1: doing it for the love of it. Yeah, percent is
- 29:00Speaker 1: not They've got way more time into it than that.
- 29:03Speaker 1: And so this is a real head turner. This is
- 29:07Speaker 1: the golden goose that laid the golden egg. Right, I
- 29:11Speaker 1: love this. Carl Bam Murphy is the artist and of
- 29:13Speaker 1: course nelson A Sideware is a sponsor, and we're right
- 29:15Speaker 1: in front of nelson A Sideware as we speak. I'd
- 29:20Speaker 1: like to crack open want one of those eggs, just
- 29:22Speaker 1: to see what's inside. I mean, look at this. Can
- 29:30Speaker 1: you believe it? I'm serious. I mean, and see the
- 29:35Speaker 1: auctioneer and actually bid live the auctioneer can see the bidder.
- 29:40Speaker 1: This is a new artist this year for us, Sarah Sprague.
- 29:43Speaker 1: This is firefighter Flow, so kind of think about the
- 29:47Speaker 1: green fire trucks. Yeah, remember some of the fire trucks
- 29:51Speaker 1: are lime green and then some are red, and then
- 29:54Speaker 1: we've got the flow of the water.
- 29:56Speaker 2: So that's that's the theme.
- 29:59Speaker 1: And of course Corey Kitchen and Spirits is the sponsor,
- 30:03Speaker 1: and we're right in front of the Cory, right here
- 30:04Speaker 1: on the corner.
- 30:05Speaker 4: Now you know what, Carl, I gotta just say, you
- 30:09Speaker 4: really love this? Oh yeah, it's a lot of you
- 30:12Speaker 4: love this art splashy so so much. Sure, because you do,
- 30:18Speaker 4: your energy and your passion behind it is infectious.
- 30:23Speaker 1: So for the first time this year, we've got or
- 30:26Speaker 1: right in front of the back part of the Corey restaurant.
- 30:28Speaker 1: But people can sit out at the Cory and eat
- 30:31Speaker 1: and enjoy looking at little Holly. Oh yeah, here we go.
- 30:38Speaker 1: So focus with this one because they're the sponsor and
- 30:41Speaker 1: Jane Spargo again as the artist.
- 30:43Speaker 2: She did three of these for us this year.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Jeez with the lever coat man. So you see the
- 30:54Speaker 1: safety pin that she manufactures. You see the goggles, not
- 30:59Speaker 1: the goggles, but the sunglasses, gobbles, sword to speak. The zipper.
- 31:04Speaker 3: Got all the teeth in the zipper car, I know.
- 31:07Speaker 1: That's what I say. It's like, how does the artist
- 31:09Speaker 1: do all the intricate little detail and then decorate it.
- 31:14Speaker 2: I mean, there's the.
- 31:14Speaker 1: Zipper and we're standing right across the street from the
- 31:17Speaker 1: longest granite zipper.
- 31:18Speaker 2: In the world.
- 31:18Speaker 4: Sure, yeah, I mean even the sketching in the leather,
- 31:23Speaker 4: you know, I mean everything everywhere.
- 31:25Speaker 2: I talk to people that come from out of state
- 31:27Speaker 2: and they walk up and down the.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Main street of Barry and they say, we can't believe
- 31:31Speaker 1: all the hidden gems and bear Oh yeah, they just
- 31:34Speaker 1: they just are so surprised that there's bicycle racks made
- 31:38Speaker 1: out of granite, and there's granite statues and in addition
- 31:41Speaker 1: to the arc splash zippers, yes, all kinds of things.
- 31:48Speaker 1: So we're kind of headed down towards city place there
- 31:53Speaker 1: and this.
- 31:53Speaker 4: Morning guys and being part of this so we're doing
- 31:58Speaker 4: it again.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Yeah, So Daniel L. Bris said, is the artist here?
- 32:04Speaker 1: On pause and love? Doug answers, it's a beautiful cat
- 32:09Speaker 1: and of course it's right here near Kitty Corner Cafe.
- 32:16Speaker 3: Oh, man, you're a chimp.
- 32:19Speaker 1: This is a chimp. Oh you got to ask your audience,
- 32:22Speaker 1: which is it?
- 32:23Speaker 2: See if they're paying attention.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Pretty cool, huh, chimpanzee, chimpanzee. Look at the shirt man.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Look look at the birds. Man, I know. I mean
- 32:36Speaker 1: he has to do each one of these birds by him,
- 32:39Speaker 1: each one of the leads.
- 32:40Speaker 3: They're all they look, I mean, they're all identical.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Pretty cool, Pretty cool.
- 32:50Speaker 1: I want to point out while we're down here that
- 32:52Speaker 1: one of our artists, Heather Melton Richie, has done all
- 32:55Speaker 1: these granite sculptures here. She's a granite sculptor. And at
- 33:00Speaker 1: some point we'll come across her art item that she
- 33:02Speaker 1: did this year. But a lot of people that live
- 33:05Speaker 1: in Berry have never seen that granite mailbox lunch pail, lunchbox. Yeah,
- 33:09Speaker 1: I'll mention it. And I said, what are you talking about?
- 33:11Speaker 1: And they drive up and down the street all the time,
- 33:13Speaker 1: and never notice. This is John mccity was the race
- 33:17Speaker 1: car driver here and paulm City, his nephew, is the
- 33:21Speaker 1: artist that decorated it. And again it's a jet service
- 33:24Speaker 1: envelope company. So this is part of the mini stocks
- 33:27Speaker 1: that I said before Race at thunder Road. Pretty cool
- 33:32Speaker 1: number fifty eight of course, and like I said before,
- 33:36Speaker 1: you don't see a lot of advertisements on the older
- 33:38Speaker 1: race cars. Again you can see the bonnet. All the
- 33:45Speaker 1: bonnets are lifted to get airflow and the mufflers sticks
- 33:49Speaker 1: off the bat Pretty cool. Now we've got a one
- 33:52Speaker 1: over cond here.
- 33:54Speaker 3: We'll tribute to Ken Squire w EV.
- 33:57Speaker 1: Ken Squire's father started WDEV in nineteen thirty one and
- 34:02Speaker 1: this is a nineteen thirty one Ford. Chance Spargo had
- 34:06Speaker 1: the idea to do it and to manufacture this. You're
- 34:11Speaker 1: back on so we're back to d EV. I'm not
- 34:14Speaker 1: sure where it cut out, but Ken Squire's father, I
- 34:17Speaker 1: think Lloyd Squire started WDEV in nineteen thirty one and
- 34:22Speaker 1: this is a nineteen thirty one Ford.
- 34:24Speaker 2: So Ken always had this car.
- 34:27Speaker 1: It's still in their family, I believe, and it started
- 34:31Speaker 1: out our Kana built the thirty four Ford Coup that
- 34:34Speaker 1: kind of ended here, and then Jan Spargo, the artist
- 34:37Speaker 1: had to fabricate everything over to the very Rotary Club
- 34:41Speaker 1: in the arts.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Last project.
- 34:43Speaker 1: He manufactured these bumpers in his own little shop.
- 34:46Speaker 2: And then our con so a little.
- 34:49Speaker 1: Unique same thing in the back he manufactured the bumpers.
- 34:55Speaker 1: Kind of cool that he did that. His last name's Romano,
- 34:58Speaker 1: I believe, and I.
- 34:59Speaker 2: Can't think of his first name.
- 35:02Speaker 1: So we've done our tour. We're just headed by the
- 35:05Speaker 1: zipper and here's some folks by studio place haunts. Yeah,
- 35:09Speaker 1: I love this one car. So this is one that
- 35:13Speaker 1: the artists had free reign to decorate it however they
- 35:16Speaker 1: wanted to.
- 35:17Speaker 2: They did not have to decorate it as a race car.
- 35:19Speaker 1: You can see it's the love Bug and it's the
- 35:21Speaker 1: Granite Center Garden Club. The sponsor is Caroline Earl Earlin Freeman.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Caroline is the current president of the Berry Rotary Club.
- 35:31Speaker 2: And just look at the detail.
- 35:33Speaker 1: Everything was manufactured by hand. Every one of these cats
- 35:36Speaker 1: and dogs and people and art items all manufactured by hand.
- 35:43Speaker 1: Diane and Ed Blanchard play a big role in the
- 35:46Speaker 1: decoration of this and they usually.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Come down and wash them.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Sometimes they're still working on getting the washing people. Pretty cool, huh.
- 36:00Speaker 1: I love love. I've had quite a few people to
- 36:05Speaker 1: contact me and tell me that they had a Volkswagen
- 36:08Speaker 1: back in the day. Yeah, and they have a story
- 36:10Speaker 1: about it. You know.
- 36:11Speaker 2: It was their first car and they went on their first.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Date in the in the in the car and that
- 36:17Speaker 1: sort of thing. So well, that's Jo.
- 36:20Speaker 3: That's part one. You and I are going to finish
- 36:22Speaker 3: up part two real soon. We haven't picked a date yet,
- 36:27Speaker 3: we're gonna.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Okay, well, Carl, thank you, JD. I really appreciate it.
- 36:31Speaker 1: The Berry Rotary Club appreciates it, and we'll say goodbye
- 36:34Speaker 1: to folks until next time.
