- 1:02Speaker 1: It's the greatest thing since the Bengals new uniforms. I
- 1:07Speaker 1: attended the unveiling of the new unis on Monday, and
- 1:10Speaker 1: here are a few of my observations. For years, my
- 1:13Speaker 1: favorite Bengals uniform has been the white Tiger color Rush,
- 1:17Speaker 1: so the fact that the new uniforms are largely inspired
- 1:20Speaker 1: by that sleek, sharp look is a home run for me.
- 1:24Speaker 1: My favorite combo is the orange jersey with the black pants,
- 1:28Speaker 1: but if I was going to buy a jersey, I
- 1:31Speaker 1: would start with the white and finally putting Paul Brown's
- 1:35Speaker 1: signature on the inside of the collar is genius. Having
- 1:39Speaker 1: said all of that, I've reached the age where uniforms
- 1:42Speaker 1: just don't matter all that much to me. It's not
- 1:45Speaker 1: like I wear one in the broadcast booth. But I
- 1:47Speaker 1: have a fourteen year old son who is obsessed with uniforms,
- 1:51Speaker 1: and that's the target audience that matters. When I texted
- 1:54Speaker 1: him a picture of the UNI shortly after the unveiling,
- 1:58Speaker 1: he responded with three words, they look fantastic. It looks
- 2:03Speaker 1: like we'll be spending some time and money in the
- 2:06Speaker 1: Bengals pro shop. Now time to shine the spotlight on
- 2:11Speaker 1: Kyle Pitts, the twenty year old tight end who was
- 2:14Speaker 1: born three days before Piney Sewell played at Florida but
- 2:17Speaker 1: is from Philadelphia. He helped lead archbishop Wood High School
- 2:21Speaker 1: to back to back state championships as a junior and
- 2:24Speaker 1: senior under head coach Steve Devlin. Steve, do you remember
- 2:29Speaker 1: your initial impressions of Kyle. I remember after seeing the
- 2:34Speaker 1: first practice, seeing how athletic you as, I knew yourself special.
- 2:37Speaker 1: And he's a hard worker, and he had a great
- 2:41Speaker 1: work ethic, and I knew that would pay off for him.
- 2:44Speaker 1: And I knew that his desire and his ability to
- 2:50Speaker 1: outwork everybody was going to pay off for him one day.
- 2:53Speaker 1: And you know, obviously, you know, I couldn't imagine, you know,
- 2:57Speaker 1: I knew he'd play on Sundays. I knew he's that special,
- 2:59Speaker 1: but I didn't know that, you know, he was gonna
- 3:01Speaker 1: be top five, top ten draft pickets. That's the credit
- 3:06Speaker 1: to him and what he's done. Describe his personality and
- 3:10Speaker 1: how he interacted with teammates and coaches. He's a great person.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Kyle was the ultimate teammate, never put anybody below him.
- 3:18Speaker 1: He treated everybody as an equal. He was a great teammate,
- 3:23Speaker 1: supporting people, helping the young guys, hanging out with guys,
- 3:28Speaker 1: you know, joking around, you know, in the office for practice.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Before lived just a tremendous teammate and you know, really
- 3:37Speaker 1: was the leader of our tea. We are talking to
- 3:41Speaker 1: Steve Devlin, who was Kyle Pitts High school of coach.
- 3:43Speaker 1: I know he played both ways in high school, as
- 3:46Speaker 1: you know most great players do at that age. It
- 3:49Speaker 1: sounds like he was every bit as good as a
- 3:51Speaker 1: defensive end as he was as an offensive weapon. Yeah.
- 3:55Speaker 1: You know, in high school he was such a great
- 3:57Speaker 1: athlete that he was a mispatch not only on the
- 3:59Speaker 1: offense the side, but on the defensive side because of
- 4:01Speaker 1: his athletic ability. And you know, funny stat his senior year.
- 4:06Speaker 1: You know, he won the state championships his junior year
- 4:09Speaker 1: and they beat uh SO would beat Michael Larsons his
- 4:12Speaker 1: junior year to win a state championship. And then senior
- 4:15Speaker 1: year we played Gateway from Pittsburgh and he not only
- 4:19Speaker 1: had a touchdown reception, but he had two interceptions in
- 4:22Speaker 1: the game. Not too bad. Do you have a favorite
- 4:26Speaker 1: Kyle Pitts story, coach, Yeah, there were so many different
- 4:30Speaker 1: plays that stand out on both sides of the ball.
- 4:33Speaker 1: I mean, you know that senior year, that that last
- 4:36Speaker 1: game of his senior year, his last high school game
- 4:39Speaker 1: with his teamates and buddies. I mean he goes out
- 4:41Speaker 1: and you know sports a touchdown, had two interceptions. I
- 4:45Speaker 1: think he had a shack as well, a bunch of TfL.
- 4:49Speaker 1: He was just he was just awesome. And his junior
- 4:51Speaker 1: year I do know. You know, Michael Parsons was playing
- 4:55Speaker 1: for Harrisburg High School and he ran outside zone. Kyle
- 4:59Speaker 1: was their way for him and picked him up, slammed
- 5:01Speaker 1: in the ground. I remember that vaguely, so, I mean it's, uh,
- 5:05Speaker 1: you know, he has so many great plays, but probably
- 5:08Speaker 1: I remember more about Kyle's just the first he was
- 5:11Speaker 1: jokes at the time you spent off the deal with him,
- 5:13Speaker 1: and the time you washed them with his teammates, and uh,
- 5:17Speaker 1: you know, he's a great character person. We're talking to
- 5:20Speaker 1: Steve Devlin, who was Kyle Pitts high school coach now
- 5:23Speaker 1: a college coach at or Sinus College. What was recruiting
- 5:26Speaker 1: like with Kyle Pitts. Yeah, it was, uh, you know,
- 5:30Speaker 1: everybody in the country was down looking at him, and
- 5:32Speaker 1: you know, we had some I've been through that a
- 5:35Speaker 1: few times with some guys. Prior. Colin Thompson played down
- 5:40Speaker 1: to Florida, ended up going to Temple was an old
- 5:42Speaker 1: lead king to Temples playing with Carolina Fants down Ryan
- 5:46Speaker 1: Bates played for me, started Vince Days down with the
- 5:48Speaker 1: Buffalo Bills, playing out line. So I've had some some
- 5:52Speaker 1: guys that that everybody who's looking at But with Kyle
- 5:55Speaker 1: was such an athlete that you know, you had everybody
- 6:00Speaker 1: sec big tan, everybody looking for him. He was, you know,
- 6:04Speaker 1: in the Nickey seven on seven circuits he was. I
- 6:08Speaker 1: coached him in the under Arm or All American Game
- 6:10Speaker 1: where he was just a force down there. So I mean, um,
- 6:15Speaker 1: recruiting was was very busy, and uh, but I think
- 6:18Speaker 1: Kyle fell in love with Florida and that was always
- 6:21Speaker 1: his school. Did you feel like you were coaching a
- 6:25Speaker 1: potential NFL great? Um? I knew Kyle had had the ability,
- 6:31Speaker 1: and I knew he had the work ethic and the
- 6:33Speaker 1: character to do everything he needs to do and put
- 6:37Speaker 1: himself in the position to be as successful as he
- 6:39Speaker 1: can be. And you know, obviously you got to stay
- 6:41Speaker 1: healthy and be lucky and a little bit of that stuff.
- 6:45Speaker 1: But talent wise, absolutely absolutely a kid his size, with
- 6:49Speaker 1: his length and his athleticism and you know when I
- 6:53Speaker 1: talk about people having strong hands and catching the ball
- 6:56Speaker 1: and snatching the ball out of the out of the air.
- 6:58Speaker 1: I mean Kyle was up special. I mean I even
- 7:01Speaker 1: heard Dan Mullen, who I was the is his college coach,
- 7:04Speaker 1: who also is the first sign of his college graduate
- 7:08Speaker 1: by the way, but he put on Twitter that he
- 7:12Speaker 1: never Kyle ever dropped the pass and to read them.
- 7:14Speaker 1: So that's that's pretty impressive. Final question for Steve devil
- 7:19Speaker 1: and who coached Kyle Pitts in high school. You are
- 7:21Speaker 1: obviously a little biased for this one, but if Kyle
- 7:24Speaker 1: Pitts is available when the Bengals are on the clock
- 7:27Speaker 1: with a fifth overall pick, what advice would you give them? Say,
- 7:32Speaker 1: Kyle chests. He's a difference maker. There's there's no doubt
- 7:36Speaker 1: about it. And you know he's gonna he's gonna he's
- 7:40Speaker 1: gonna continue to work his tailoff to be the best
- 7:43Speaker 1: that he can do. And then, uh, I see nothing
- 7:45Speaker 1: of the great things for him in his future. In
- 7:48Speaker 1: three years with the Florida Gators, Pitts finished with one
- 7:50Speaker 1: hundred catches for nearly fifteen hundred yards, and this past
- 7:54Speaker 1: season he earned the John Mackey Award as the best
- 7:56Speaker 1: tight end in the country. Is Kyle average nearly eighteen
- 8:00Speaker 1: yards a catch and hauled in twelve touchdowns and only
- 8:03Speaker 1: eight games. Pitts finished tenth in the Heisman Trophy vote,
- 8:07Speaker 1: becoming the first tight end to finish in the top
- 8:09Speaker 1: ten in forty three years. This week, I spoke to
- 8:14Speaker 1: the long time radio voice of the Florida Gators, Nick Hubert.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Nicky had the opportunity to watch Kyle Pitts for three seasons.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Describe what you saw, Well, it was great to see
- 8:25Speaker 1: because when he came on, you know, he was a
- 8:27Speaker 1: big kid, but it wasn't all that polished per se,
- 8:31Speaker 1: and so we didn't really know. But it didn't take
- 8:33Speaker 1: long to see that he was a real deal. Now.
- 8:38Speaker 1: You know, he had had a good first year and
- 8:39Speaker 1: a really good second year, and obviously a great third year.
- 8:43Speaker 1: His second year was really impressive and that's what set
- 8:46Speaker 1: him up for the last year that he played only
- 8:49Speaker 1: six six He played here at about two forty and so,
- 8:52Speaker 1: you know, he was a guy that was just you
- 8:54Speaker 1: couldn't really cover him at the college level because it
- 8:59Speaker 1: was a mismatch problem. No matter where he sat up,
- 9:01Speaker 1: whether he had his hand in the ground, he was
- 9:04Speaker 1: very effective at doing that. But he could, he could
- 9:06Speaker 1: play on the slot, he could flex out, so he
- 9:09Speaker 1: can go against a variety of defensive backs. And he
- 9:12Speaker 1: had leverage with his size and good hands and good speed,
- 9:15Speaker 1: and he was a tough kid. So he was really
- 9:18Speaker 1: just a great surprise. And then you know last year
- 9:22Speaker 1: in the opening game of the season, he really was magnificent.
- 9:25Speaker 1: And in the SEC started September twenty sixth last year,
- 9:31Speaker 1: and that was that was a little late, but earlier
- 9:34Speaker 1: than some of the other leagues. So we're playing at
- 9:36Speaker 1: Old Miss in the first game, and you know, he
- 9:39Speaker 1: has eight catches, one hundred and seventy yards and four
- 9:41Speaker 1: touchdowns in the first game. So you know, that's kind
- 9:44Speaker 1: of the standard he set for that that year. And
- 9:47Speaker 1: he really really played consistently well each and every weekend.
- 9:51Speaker 1: We are talking to Mick Hubert, the radio voice of
- 9:53Speaker 1: the Florida Gators. What have his coaches told you about
- 9:57Speaker 1: Kyle as a teammate, a leader, etc. Well, that that's
- 10:01Speaker 1: another area where it's really excelled, is that you know,
- 10:05Speaker 1: when you put up numbers like that on the field,
- 10:07Speaker 1: it's it's it's easy to get your people's attention. But
- 10:10Speaker 1: then again, you know you can't fool other You can't
- 10:12Speaker 1: fool people, especially players. So when they see a guy
- 10:16Speaker 1: working in practice as he did and then going out
- 10:18Speaker 1: and performing in games because he did, uh, they have
- 10:21Speaker 1: great respect for that. And he wasn't a guy that
- 10:23Speaker 1: was overly loud and voiceterous. He was very intelligent, coome
- 10:26Speaker 1: of measured guys, so you know, it wasn't like he
- 10:29Speaker 1: was running his mouth wild all the time. Uh. So
- 10:33Speaker 1: when he spoke, he had the he had, he had
- 10:35Speaker 1: the years of his teammates, and then they really respected
- 10:38Speaker 1: him off the field. And because he was a good
- 10:40Speaker 1: he was it was a good a good teammate, and
- 10:42Speaker 1: he was also just a good person for the program.
- 10:45Speaker 1: So he'd be obviously a guy that will certainly be
- 10:49Speaker 1: missed and be very difficult to replace him. Uh. You know,
- 10:53Speaker 1: Dan mullin has used to tight end very well in
- 10:55Speaker 1: his offense, and we did have some success in in
- 10:59Speaker 1: some of the time when Pitts was out with a
- 11:01Speaker 1: couple of injuries, other guys stepped up, but by no
- 11:04Speaker 1: means where they're going to be Kyle Pitts like performances.
- 11:07Speaker 1: But uh, you know, he was fortunate to play for
- 11:11Speaker 1: Dan Mullen in an offense where they utilized the tight
- 11:13Speaker 1: end and it was able to showcase all of his abilities.
- 11:16Speaker 1: He is obviously a tremendous receiving threat. Kenny block. Well,
- 11:21Speaker 1: that's the key, that's really key. He could in college.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Now he'll have to obviously take that blocking skill to
- 11:28Speaker 1: a new level when he gets in the NFL, and
- 11:31Speaker 1: so that will be the thing that will be in
- 11:34Speaker 1: question at the outset. I certainly think when he had
- 11:38Speaker 1: he has the frame, he has the intelligence, So you know,
- 11:41Speaker 1: given time, I think he'll be a fine blocker in
- 11:44Speaker 1: the NFL. I don't know that he's going to come
- 11:47Speaker 1: in at twenty one years old and started blocking guys
- 11:49Speaker 1: have been in the league seven or eight years and
- 11:51Speaker 1: and then say all of a sudden, you know he's
- 11:53Speaker 1: ready to take them on. But he's not going to
- 11:56Speaker 1: take too long because he's gonna get he's gonna get
- 11:58Speaker 1: bigger and stronger, and he's got a good work ethic
- 12:01Speaker 1: to do that. So yes, I think he will be
- 12:03Speaker 1: able to do that. Um but I think that that's
- 12:06Speaker 1: the one thing that you would identify right out of
- 12:08Speaker 1: the gates that you know he'll need to improve upon
- 12:11Speaker 1: that probably, which is not to say that he can't
- 12:14Speaker 1: do it. He did it very well at the collegiate level.
- 12:19Speaker 1: But he you know, he didn't play with his hand
- 12:21Speaker 1: in the ground all the time. That's what I'm saying.
- 12:23Speaker 1: He was. He was. He was a slot a lot
- 12:26Speaker 1: and and he was total mismatch for linebackers and trying
- 12:28Speaker 1: to cover him there. And then when he got split out,
- 12:31Speaker 1: he was using a lot of times as a wide
- 12:33Speaker 1: receiver because he could he could win all the fifty
- 12:35Speaker 1: fifty balls. So he really displayed at this pile a
- 12:39Speaker 1: great a great ability to play in that position. H
- 12:44Speaker 1: you a matter of different different kinds of tight end positions.
- 12:47Speaker 1: We are talking to the great radio voice of the
- 12:49Speaker 1: Florida Gators, Mick Hubert. The Bengals are also in the
- 12:52Speaker 1: market for a deep threat wide receiver, and one of
- 12:54Speaker 1: the fastest ones in this draft is another Gator, Couldarius Tony.
- 12:59Speaker 1: I don't know if he'll still be there in round two.
- 13:02Speaker 1: But what are his strengths and what are some of
- 13:04Speaker 1: the question marks with Gadarius? But he's a guy that
- 13:08Speaker 1: really did develop over the course of his four seasons.
- 13:11Speaker 1: He came in as just a speed guy who had
- 13:15Speaker 1: difficulty catching the football, I'm not unlike a lot of
- 13:19Speaker 1: guys would have great speed. Not that he was a
- 13:22Speaker 1: track sprinter that was trying to play football, No, that's
- 13:25Speaker 1: not it. But he had great speed, but he just
- 13:29Speaker 1: didn't he didn't have maybe the maturity when he was younger.
- 13:32Speaker 1: But he really transformed himself. And I'm not I can't
- 13:36Speaker 1: really pinpoint win, but the light went off for him
- 13:39Speaker 1: at some point to hey, I can do this for
- 13:41Speaker 1: a career and I have to put all the childish
- 13:44Speaker 1: things behind and I got to really apply myself. And
- 13:46Speaker 1: when he started doing that, he became a totally different receiver.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Especially that last year. He was a guy that we
- 13:54Speaker 1: knew we could throw the ball deep and he was
- 13:55Speaker 1: gonna go get it. He was going to catch it. Now,
- 13:57Speaker 1: he's not sick six like Kyle Pitts about six feet tall,
- 14:01Speaker 1: but he was able to use He had pretty good
- 14:03Speaker 1: at upper body strength. It was amazing how he developed
- 14:06Speaker 1: his upper body and you could see that development from
- 14:09Speaker 1: you know, from his sophomore year to his senior he
- 14:11Speaker 1: was totally a different looking player. So you know, he
- 14:14Speaker 1: averaged about twelve and a half yards every time he
- 14:16Speaker 1: touched the ball, whether it was on a jet sweep
- 14:18Speaker 1: or whether he was going deep. He was just a
- 14:20Speaker 1: guy we needed to get the ball in his hands.
- 14:22Speaker 1: And we had a pretty prolific offense last year with
- 14:25Speaker 1: kids at the tight end and Tony going deep, and
- 14:27Speaker 1: we had a couple other guys that are you're probably
- 14:28Speaker 1: going to play in the NFL as well. So Kyle
- 14:31Speaker 1: Trask had great arsenal of receivers that he could throw
- 14:34Speaker 1: it too, and we had a very prolific passing game
- 14:36Speaker 1: last year. But Tony was a guy that really really
- 14:40Speaker 1: raised a lot of eyebrows that he had made probably
- 14:44Speaker 1: the biggest jump of any of the receivers to where
- 14:47Speaker 1: he was. He was a bona fide deep threat that
- 14:49Speaker 1: could catch the ball and as opposed to just being
- 14:52Speaker 1: kount of a one dimensional guy when he first came
- 14:54Speaker 1: in basically a jet sweep and trying to get him
- 14:57Speaker 1: ball in space, he wasn't a guy that was probably
- 14:59Speaker 1: gon he catch too many balls twenty five yards down
- 15:02Speaker 1: the field. That totally changed by the time his senior
- 15:04Speaker 1: year came around. How is Tony as a return specialist, Well,
- 15:08Speaker 1: he's pretty good at doing that. Also, you know that
- 15:11Speaker 1: that was initially what you know that that was going
- 15:15Speaker 1: to get him on the field. Really his special teams
- 15:18Speaker 1: in doing that. So he can do that because he's
- 15:21Speaker 1: got pretty good hands to do that. He's got some
- 15:23Speaker 1: toughness about him, like I said, So he's maximized his frame.
- 15:27Speaker 1: He's not you know, he's not five nine or five ten,
- 15:30Speaker 1: but he's not six four or six five years. He's
- 15:33Speaker 1: you know, at about six feet tall and maybe one
- 15:35Speaker 1: hundred and ninety five maybe two hundred pounds. You know,
- 15:38Speaker 1: he's big enough, I think to be able to do that. Nick,
- 15:42Speaker 1: let me throw one more name at you, and this
- 15:44Speaker 1: is a big target. Another wide receiver that's expected to
- 15:47Speaker 1: get taken somewhere in the middle rounds Trey von Grimes,
- 15:50Speaker 1: who started out at Ohio State before transferring to Florida
- 15:53Speaker 1: six four to twenty ran a four or four nine
- 15:56Speaker 1: at his pro day. How does Tray von Grimes look
- 16:00Speaker 1: to you as an NFL prospect? Well, that's a part
- 16:03Speaker 1: of the group of guys that I that I mentioned
- 16:05Speaker 1: about the Gators being very prolific on offense. But obviously
- 16:09Speaker 1: uh kind of itch drew so much attention and then
- 16:12Speaker 1: with the emerging of Cadarius Tony going deep h wow.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Then you've got a third guy like Trey Grimes out there,
- 16:18Speaker 1: who's you mentioned six four and two twenty. So he's
- 16:21Speaker 1: another big target thing w up and wins fifty fifty
- 16:23Speaker 1: balls and and you can throw him one on the sideline.
- 16:26Speaker 1: He was going to get it. So he was in
- 16:27Speaker 1: a perfect position because he had two other guys that
- 16:29Speaker 1: were really good around him. Uh Grimes, we were glad
- 16:33Speaker 1: to get him back. He was a Florida kid from
- 16:35Speaker 1: Fort Larleel who went to Ohio State with Urban Meyer
- 16:37Speaker 1: initially and then and then came back and really played well,
- 16:40Speaker 1: played well for US, and he had several games over
- 16:43Speaker 1: one hundred yards receiving. But he was just in He's
- 16:46Speaker 1: in the right offense with the right group of personnel,
- 16:49Speaker 1: with a quarterback that had all the ability to get
- 16:53Speaker 1: him the football. So I think Trey Grimes, if if
- 16:57Speaker 1: he can apply himself at the NFL level, he'll have
- 17:00Speaker 1: a chance to play. I really believe that, because we've
- 17:03Speaker 1: had some guys that have gone out of here, maybe
- 17:05Speaker 1: with lesser numbers in college, that are playing in the NFL.
- 17:10Speaker 1: And so I think Ryan certainly has an opportunity because
- 17:13Speaker 1: he's got I think enough speed to do that, and again,
- 17:16Speaker 1: he's got pretty good hands, and he seems like he's
- 17:19Speaker 1: a pretty kind of locked in guy, not a guy
- 17:22Speaker 1: that's you know, you got to get his attention. I
- 17:24Speaker 1: think that was also something was really good that he
- 17:27Speaker 1: came back to us. He had a little, you know, transfer,
- 17:30Speaker 1: so he came back with a little bit of maturity,
- 17:31Speaker 1: knowing that I've used the mulligan here and I, you know,
- 17:34Speaker 1: I'm going to play this game beyond the Saturdays. I
- 17:37Speaker 1: got to apply it and now's my time. And I've
- 17:39Speaker 1: had a good program with a good coach and a
- 17:41Speaker 1: good offense. So I think he used the best of
- 17:43Speaker 1: that to to to make him himself ready to play
- 17:45Speaker 1: in the NFL. Several Gators are going to get picked.
- 17:48Speaker 1: I guess that's always the case. So much talent down
- 17:51Speaker 1: there in Florida, and I really appreciate you sharing some
- 17:54Speaker 1: information about those three guys. Thanks so much, Mick, Damn
- 17:57Speaker 1: my playersure, Thank you. Goose Booth podcast is presented by
- 18:02Speaker 1: Bud Light Seltzer. It's light and refreshing with a hint
- 18:05Speaker 1: of fruit flavor. Now time for the draft gurus to
- 18:08Speaker 1: weigh in. Last month, I was among a group of
- 18:11Speaker 1: reporters who took part in a conference call with Daniel
- 18:14Speaker 1: Jeremiah from the NFL Network. I've edited the three questions
- 18:18Speaker 1: he received about Kyle Pitts together, and it's worth noting
- 18:22Speaker 1: that two of those questions came from Philadelphia before the
- 18:26Speaker 1: Eagles traded the sixth pick in the draft to Miami.
- 18:30Speaker 1: So keep in mind as you're listening that the Dolphins
- 18:32Speaker 1: are now one spot behind Cincinnati and Philadelphia picks twelfth.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Here's Daniel Jeremiah on Kyle Pitts. I think you can
- 18:42Speaker 1: make a strong case he's the best player in the draft.
- 18:44Speaker 1: I mean, I have him as the third best player
- 18:46Speaker 1: right now when I update it, and I've seen a
- 18:48Speaker 1: lot more, you know, going through all these defensive players,
- 18:51Speaker 1: and I just watched all these corners, and I'm watching
- 18:54Speaker 1: these corners with first, second, third round draft grades in
- 18:57Speaker 1: the SEC and they can't cover the guy. So you
- 19:00Speaker 1: split him out. And I think if he was just
- 19:02Speaker 1: in this draft as an ex receiver, he's a top
- 19:05Speaker 1: ten or fifteen pick. If you've never even watched him
- 19:08Speaker 1: put his hand in the ground. Um, there's there's at
- 19:11Speaker 1: that size to be able to get in and out
- 19:13Speaker 1: like he does. Is pretty rare to turn guys inside out.
- 19:17Speaker 1: If you watch Kelsey, and you'll see Kelsey run those
- 19:20Speaker 1: pivot routes where he's so efficient and doesn't waste any steps.
- 19:23Speaker 1: You see the same thing with Pits, and then he
- 19:26Speaker 1: has a bigger catch ratis to go up over the
- 19:28Speaker 1: top of people and make plays. So to me, it's
- 19:31Speaker 1: a matchup. It's a matchup that's going to be in
- 19:33Speaker 1: your favor every time you line up. The defense can't
- 19:36Speaker 1: be right against him no matter what you do. You know,
- 19:38Speaker 1: you put big guys out there, he's gonna run away
- 19:40Speaker 1: from him. Um, you put small guys out there, he's
- 19:42Speaker 1: just gonna pluck the ball off their heads. So that
- 19:45Speaker 1: to me is what makes them special. And I was
- 19:48Speaker 1: talking to somebody in the league the other day about this.
- 19:49Speaker 1: I thought it was really fascinating point when if you're
- 19:52Speaker 1: if you're the Eagles, for example, and you're looking at
- 19:55Speaker 1: one of the top receivers versus Kyle Pitts. If you
- 19:59Speaker 1: look at receivers and it ends, look at the franchise
- 20:01Speaker 1: number and look at the difference in money, I think
- 20:03Speaker 1: there's a difference of like six million bucks. So not
- 20:06Speaker 1: only do you have a rare mismatch player that's hard
- 20:08Speaker 1: to find. Once you get to the second contract, He's
- 20:11Speaker 1: gonna be extremely affordable compared to if you're gonna take
- 20:14Speaker 1: a receiver with that same pick, So you're getting the
- 20:17Speaker 1: same level of impact without having to pay that same
- 20:19Speaker 1: level of cost. To me, I think that could be
- 20:22Speaker 1: something that could be a tiebreaker when you're making that decision, Daniel,
- 20:27Speaker 1: I'm gonna give you a few players. If you were
- 20:29Speaker 1: the Eagles, You're on the clock at six, and you've
- 20:34Speaker 1: mentioned all the players, Pits, Wattle, Jamar Chase, and maybe
- 20:42Speaker 1: I think Smith would probably be for whatever reason, not
- 20:46Speaker 1: net mix, and any offensive or defensive lineman, who would
- 20:50Speaker 1: you take at that position? I would take Pitts. I
- 20:56Speaker 1: would I think it's a no I think it's a
- 20:58Speaker 1: no brainer. I think it's a We've talked about how
- 21:01Speaker 1: high the ceiling is with him. I mean, I think
- 21:02Speaker 1: he can emerge. Is the best tight end of the
- 21:06Speaker 1: National Football League. He's at that type of dynamic ability.
- 21:09Speaker 1: And I think when you have Jalen Hurts and you
- 21:12Speaker 1: want to see what he can do, and now you've
- 21:13Speaker 1: got Kyle Pitts and you've got god Hear, You've got
- 21:16Speaker 1: two guys that can really uncover, and you're gonna have
- 21:19Speaker 1: favorable matchups right in the middle of the field if
- 21:21Speaker 1: you want them. Those can be some easy completion. So
- 21:25Speaker 1: to me, that one would make the most sense for them,
- 21:27Speaker 1: and I think it would make their offense the most dangerous.
- 21:30Speaker 1: I have Jamar Chase and I have the same grade
- 21:33Speaker 1: with Pitts. But to me, if you wanted to find
- 21:35Speaker 1: a receiver, another receiver to you know, kind of come
- 21:38Speaker 1: along some of these other young guys you're hoping are
- 21:39Speaker 1: going to develop, I think you've got better options for
- 21:42Speaker 1: some of those receivers later rounds than you would at
- 21:44Speaker 1: the tight end position. This Kyle Pitts is a rare dude.
- 21:48Speaker 1: I don't know how much blocking he did at Florida,
- 21:50Speaker 1: but how do you evaluate him as a blocker at
- 21:52Speaker 1: the tight end position? And depending how he does in
- 21:56Speaker 1: that department, can you foresee a scenario where maybe he
- 21:59Speaker 1: gets moved to receiver full time in the NFL? And
- 22:02Speaker 1: then finally, is there any concern about a player kind
- 22:06Speaker 1: of coming back to play for his hometown team like
- 22:09Speaker 1: Pitts would be doing in this case, if you were
- 22:10Speaker 1: to come to Philadelphia, The Times you worry about guys
- 22:14Speaker 1: coming back home or if they have any type of
- 22:16Speaker 1: character concerns or they've had trouble, And by all accounts
- 22:20Speaker 1: that everything I've got on Kyle Pitts is that it's out.
- 22:23Speaker 1: He's outstanding from a makeup character standpoint, so that would
- 22:26Speaker 1: not be concerning at all to me. So I'll start
- 22:29Speaker 1: there as a blocker. When you watched him in twenty nineteen,
- 22:33Speaker 1: I thought he was willing, but I thought he was
- 22:36Speaker 1: really flimsy and just got thrown around, as you can
- 22:38Speaker 1: imagine as Paul Lean guy, he really struggled. I thought
- 22:41Speaker 1: he was much better this year to the point where
- 22:43Speaker 1: I thought he was functional. He's not. He's not you know,
- 22:46Speaker 1: he's not a killer. He's not gonna put anybody in
- 22:48Speaker 1: the hospital as a blocker, but he's he's functional. He
- 22:51Speaker 1: can wall guys off, and you can use him there
- 22:54Speaker 1: teams to me. You know, if you wanted to just
- 22:57Speaker 1: primarily use him as an ex receiver, Nope, problem. He
- 23:00Speaker 1: could do that right now and be really good at it.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Sometimes I think it's kind of funny, like if I'd
- 23:05Speaker 1: have to look it up. But like get sicky with
- 23:08Speaker 1: the Dolphins, he still has te next to his name.
- 23:11Speaker 1: I don't know how many times he was attached last year,
- 23:13Speaker 1: but you might be able to count him on two hands.
- 23:16Speaker 1: He was always detached, and so to me, that's I
- 23:20Speaker 1: would be trying to use his kid that way. Just
- 23:22Speaker 1: flex him out and use him and then some games
- 23:25Speaker 1: you want to split him out some guys. You want
- 23:26Speaker 1: to use him in the slot if you want to.
- 23:28Speaker 1: You know, you can get him in line if you
- 23:30Speaker 1: get if you get them to go small, that's what's
- 23:32Speaker 1: so great about him as you get them to go small. Yeah,
- 23:35Speaker 1: he can. He can hold his own and shield guys
- 23:38Speaker 1: office as a run blocker, But I'd much rather be
- 23:40Speaker 1: throwing him the ball. I'll put it this way. Kyle
- 23:43Speaker 1: Pitts will be much more popular in the quarterback room
- 23:46Speaker 1: than he will be in the running back room, what
- 23:49Speaker 1: it's worth. In his most recent mock draft, done two
- 23:52Speaker 1: weeks ago, Jeremiah has the Bengals selecting Kyle Pitts, with
- 23:57Speaker 1: Jamar Chase going sixth to Miami and Pinay Sewell going
- 24:01Speaker 1: ninth to Denver. Our final expert is Pro Football Focus
- 24:05Speaker 1: analyst Austin Gale, who previously joined me for our deep
- 24:08Speaker 1: dive look at Piney Sewell. In his latest mock draft,
- 24:12Speaker 1: he also has the Bengals selecting Kyle Pitts Austin. Let's
- 24:17Speaker 1: start with PF's assessment of Kyle Pitts. Where does he
- 24:20Speaker 1: rank among tight ends in the PF era. Kyle Pitts
- 24:24Speaker 1: might be the best tight end prospect we've seen in
- 24:26Speaker 1: the PF college era that dates back to twenty fourteen.
- 24:28Speaker 1: PFF started braiding all college football players in twenty fourteen,
- 24:31Speaker 1: and he had not only the highest grade of any
- 24:34Speaker 1: tight end we've seen in this single season, but the
- 24:35Speaker 1: highest grade of any outfensive player. Like that's how good
- 24:37Speaker 1: he was in twenty twenty. I do think that the production,
- 24:41Speaker 1: you know, matches what he is as a prospect from
- 24:43Speaker 1: the traits and measurables perspective. Really big wingspan, touch radius,
- 24:48Speaker 1: contestant catchability, a legit athlete at his size, a legitimate
- 24:52Speaker 1: tight end, one type of size, and I think he
- 24:54Speaker 1: is in that conversation to immediately enter the NFL and
- 24:58Speaker 1: be top five of his position right now. In my opinion,
- 25:01Speaker 1: there are only really three game changing, game defining tight
- 25:05Speaker 1: ends in the NFL. George Kittle, Travis Kelsey, and Darren
- 25:08Speaker 1: wall I think Zach Kyle Pits can enter that conversation
- 25:13Speaker 1: right out of the game. That's how good he is.
- 25:14Speaker 1: I think his comparison in DFF draft gag is Darren Waller.
- 25:17Speaker 1: I think he's going to be used very similarly. It's
- 25:19Speaker 1: in a play on the outside and playing the slot
- 25:22Speaker 1: play in line. Tight end dominating one on one coverage
- 25:24Speaker 1: require the attention of safety's linebackers and corners and the
- 25:27Speaker 1: defensive coordinator as well, and all that combined with the
- 25:31Speaker 1: fact that is a scarce position of talent. There is
- 25:34Speaker 1: not a lot of talented tight ends in the NFL,
- 25:36Speaker 1: like I just said, only three really game defining tight ends.
- 25:39Speaker 1: There's a difference between positional value in the NFL and
- 25:42Speaker 1: positional scarcity. Overall, On average, the tight end position is
- 25:46Speaker 1: not nearly as dialable as often to tackle, wide receiver, corner,
- 25:49Speaker 1: quarterback obviously in those things. However, the high end the
- 25:52Speaker 1: peak of the tight end position is more valuable than
- 25:54Speaker 1: the average to above average of other positions because of
- 25:57Speaker 1: that positional scares because there's only him both good tight
- 26:00Speaker 1: ends in the NFL. All right, So that you might
- 26:02Speaker 1: have just answered my next question, But in your most
- 26:05Speaker 1: recent mock draft, you had the Bengals picking Pits even
- 26:08Speaker 1: though Jamar Chase and Pinasil were still available on the board.
- 26:12Speaker 1: If they go offensive weapon instead of offensive lineman, why
- 26:17Speaker 1: Pitts over Chase. I think it comes back to that
- 26:20Speaker 1: positional scarcity. I think the ceiling you get with Kyle
- 26:23Speaker 1: Pitts is potentially better than the ceiling you get with
- 26:26Speaker 1: Pinacial or Jamar Chase. I think you have to do
- 26:29Speaker 1: all three players as blue chip prospects, guys that if
- 26:32Speaker 1: they hit the high side of their projection, will be
- 26:34Speaker 1: legitimate game changers in the NFL. My favorite high side
- 26:38Speaker 1: is Kyle Pitts. You know Kyle Pitts is you know,
- 26:40Speaker 1: ceiling projection is the most impactful. In my opinion, I
- 26:43Speaker 1: think it was close between Kyle Pitts and Jamar Chase
- 26:45Speaker 1: because you also have to factor in the chemistry. He
- 26:47Speaker 1: has Joe Burrow, what he did at nineteen years old
- 26:49Speaker 1: in the SEC. You know, catching passes further down field.
- 26:53Speaker 1: You know he'll have a higher average debuit target than
- 26:55Speaker 1: Kyle Pittsville in the NFL. That is obviously more valuable
- 26:58Speaker 1: in the passing game. So I think it's I split.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Hears between cow Pits and to Marchase, I think I
- 27:03Speaker 1: side with cow Pits, knowing that no Kyle Pitts can
- 27:07Speaker 1: come in very quickly and be a top five player
- 27:09Speaker 1: in his position. I still think to Marchase, especially after
- 27:11Speaker 1: opting out in tween twenty season, could he develop into
- 27:14Speaker 1: a top five top eight receiver in the NFL. Absolutely,
- 27:17Speaker 1: But I do think his median or slightly above average
- 27:20Speaker 1: projection is probably in that wide receiver eight to wide
- 27:22Speaker 1: receiver twelve range, potentially until his third or fourth season.
- 27:25Speaker 1: But I think with Kyle Pitts, he immediately enters that
- 27:27Speaker 1: conversation to be one invest in his position. We are
- 27:30Speaker 1: talking to Austin Gale from Pro Football Focus. In the
- 27:33Speaker 1: first two years of the Zach Taylor era, the Bengals
- 27:36Speaker 1: have gone with three wide receivers in one tight end
- 27:38Speaker 1: more than any other NFL team. Would Kyle Pitts be
- 27:42Speaker 1: as valuable to Cincinnati as he would be to another team.
- 27:46Speaker 1: That's a good question. You know, they do run a
- 27:48Speaker 1: ton of eleven firstnel and I do think that he
- 27:50Speaker 1: is the massive upgrade over who they've ran at tight
- 27:52Speaker 1: in the past. Zamba through sample, he is different. He
- 27:55Speaker 1: is two standard standard deviations different compared to those players
- 27:59Speaker 1: and what he adds there. And I do think that
- 28:01Speaker 1: what's interesting is that you know, since Day's offense likes
- 28:03Speaker 1: to tech the middle of the field, with Tyler Boyd
- 28:05Speaker 1: T Higgins even working in the middle of the field,
- 28:07Speaker 1: cow Pits is going to own that area, which where
- 28:10Speaker 1: Cincinnati needs to look next. And I know, obviously if
- 28:12Speaker 1: you take cow Pits at number five overall, you immediately
- 28:14Speaker 1: look at the offensive line, try and get upgrades on
- 28:16Speaker 1: the interior or even depth behind Riley Grief and John Williams.
- 28:19Speaker 1: But we also need speed man, and I don't think
- 28:22Speaker 1: it would be smart to take the speed guy in
- 28:24Speaker 1: the second round. I think there's opportunities at speed for speed,
- 28:27Speaker 1: wide receivers, deep threats, vertical threats in round three and
- 28:30Speaker 1: round four, even Day three, looking at guys like two
- 28:32Speaker 1: two at Well of Louisville, Jailing Darden over North Texas,
- 28:37Speaker 1: a handful of other guys that a matter baby of Illinois,
- 28:39Speaker 1: guys that have like legitimate downfield threat downfield speed that
- 28:43Speaker 1: Joe Broken hit in stride down the football field. Because
- 28:45Speaker 1: I do think that this offense Barnon needs an injection
- 28:48Speaker 1: of what they thought John Ross could be like, there's
- 28:50Speaker 1: just not enough speed on this offense. Even adding Marchase,
- 28:53Speaker 1: who at his pro day ran in the four threes,
- 28:55Speaker 1: he has not a pure speed threat. He's great at
- 28:58Speaker 1: winning down the football field, great ball Scille's great contested catchability.
- 29:01Speaker 1: But he's not a burner. He's not a wolf fuller.
- 29:03Speaker 1: He's not a Henry Roggs. He's not a jail and waddle.
- 29:06Speaker 1: What you need in this offensive my opinion, is one
- 29:08Speaker 1: of those guys to really take the top off to
- 29:10Speaker 1: again open up the middle of the field. Forced defense
- 29:12Speaker 1: is to play deeper in their coverage and that type
- 29:14Speaker 1: of stuff. It's part of the calculation for you, in
- 29:18Speaker 1: advocating for Pits and some of your colleagues who are
- 29:20Speaker 1: pushing for Jamar Chase. The fact that it is a
- 29:23Speaker 1: deep offensive line draft and they ought to be able
- 29:25Speaker 1: to get a competent starter in round two. I think
- 29:28Speaker 1: that's part of it. I also think that, you know,
- 29:30Speaker 1: the best, a top three tackle in the NFL is
- 29:34Speaker 1: not as valuable as a top three tight end in
- 29:36Speaker 1: the NFL. You know good, You know you don't need
- 29:38Speaker 1: to be elite at any position along the offensive line.
- 29:41Speaker 1: You just need to be average too slightly above average.
- 29:43Speaker 1: You can't have any weak links. You talk to the
- 29:45Speaker 1: defensive coordinators around the league and they talk about you
- 29:47Speaker 1: can't have obvious weak links in your offensive line. It
- 29:50Speaker 1: doesn't matter if you have you know, Orlando Brown left tackle,
- 29:54Speaker 1: if your guards are Billy Price and you know the
- 29:57Speaker 1: other guys that they started last year, I can't even
- 29:59Speaker 1: think of some of the games that they rotated it
- 30:01Speaker 1: into your offensive line. But like if you have weak
- 30:03Speaker 1: links on the interior offensive line, it doesn't matter if
- 30:05Speaker 1: you have a gold jacket at left tackle. You need
- 30:08Speaker 1: to be average to above average every position. I think
- 30:11Speaker 1: with the addition of Riley Reeve, who in no way
- 30:13Speaker 1: is an elite otsive tackle, wouldn't Eve whom say he's
- 30:15Speaker 1: top fifteen at his position, you still get closer to
- 30:18Speaker 1: average along the offensive line. There's more investments you can
- 30:20Speaker 1: make a tackle, There's more investments you can make on
- 30:22Speaker 1: the interior. But you can get legitimate, starter, starting quality
- 30:26Speaker 1: offensive line talent in this draft with their first pick
- 30:28Speaker 1: in the second round. I mean guys that have been
- 30:30Speaker 1: mocked to them consistently, even in my mock drafts of
- 30:32Speaker 1: late Alice Leatherwood of Alabama, Sam Cosmey of Texas, Dylan
- 30:36Speaker 1: Raidens of North Dakota State, Jackson Carman of Clemsons. Why
- 30:40Speaker 1: I like a lot is a versatile piece that could
- 30:42Speaker 1: play tackle or guard. You have Quinn Miners, who's going
- 30:45Speaker 1: to be a really good center in the NFL, Creed
- 30:47Speaker 1: Humphrey of Oklahoma, Kendrick Green Illinois. This offensive line class
- 30:51Speaker 1: is so much deeper than last year's. You know, people
- 30:53Speaker 1: bring up last year's off with the tackle class with
- 30:55Speaker 1: the Big Four, Tristan Worf's guy backed in, Jedrick Wills
- 30:59Speaker 1: and Andrew Thomas. There was a legitimate cliff off of that,
- 31:02Speaker 1: Like the drop off and talent at offensive tackle after
- 31:05Speaker 1: the Big Four was massive, and this year it's it's
- 31:08Speaker 1: not like that. You know, there are eight different offensive
- 31:10Speaker 1: tackles at inside PFF's top forty, and you look at
- 31:12Speaker 1: into your offensive line in that range of twenty five
- 31:15Speaker 1: to fifty, there's a handful of legit Day one starters
- 31:19Speaker 1: at garter center that you can pick up in those spots,
- 31:21Speaker 1: and I think that's the move that's the more valuable
- 31:23Speaker 1: play in my fading for Cincinnati value offensive line of
- 31:25Speaker 1: Day two, Day three, maybe even try and grab more
- 31:28Speaker 1: picks in the area. Trade down from two to gather
- 31:30Speaker 1: more picks and film more holes along that offensive line,
- 31:33Speaker 1: and then take a high end talent, a high end
- 31:35Speaker 1: weapon for Joe Burrow at number one. We're talking to
- 31:38Speaker 1: Austin Gale from Pro Football Focus, one of the hosts
- 31:40Speaker 1: of the two for one Draft podcast. I'm glad you
- 31:42Speaker 1: brought up the positional value argument because I do wonder
- 31:46Speaker 1: how you measure the impact of a great offensive linemen.
- 31:51Speaker 1: To me, that brings a tremendous amount of confidence to
- 31:54Speaker 1: the offense knowing that you have that guy upfront that
- 31:57Speaker 1: is going to destroy the opposition. Is that a difficult
- 32:01Speaker 1: thing to quantify? Yeah, absolutely, it's very difficult because I
- 32:05Speaker 1: think there's a mental side of it. There's I mean,
- 32:06Speaker 1: there's so many variables when we know when PFF brings
- 32:09Speaker 1: up positional value, and this position is more value than
- 32:12Speaker 1: others you're really looking at on average, you're looking at
- 32:14Speaker 1: these different things. There's obviously unique cases with injuries affect that.
- 32:17Speaker 1: You know, leadership affects that confidence in the quarterback and
- 32:20Speaker 1: confidence in the opfensive coordinator affects that. There's nothing black
- 32:23Speaker 1: and white in football, even though you try and say
- 32:25Speaker 1: one position is more valuable than the other, there's nothing
- 32:27Speaker 1: black and white in football, I think when you have to,
- 32:29Speaker 1: but when you have these opportunities, specifically for the Bengals
- 32:32Speaker 1: at five, when you are if you look at consensus
- 32:34Speaker 1: rankings among all draft analysts and media and even probably
- 32:37Speaker 1: around the league, you have three blue chip players that
- 32:40Speaker 1: are going to be available to Since say Bengals at
- 32:41Speaker 1: number five, it's going to be Jamar Chase and Asol.
- 32:44Speaker 1: I throw up Seawan Slater in the mix as well,
- 32:47Speaker 1: and then maybe Cowpits to the Atlanta fun from dcast
- 32:49Speaker 1: on him at number four. All you're in a positions,
- 32:51Speaker 1: you grab a blue chip talent. I don't think the
- 32:53Speaker 1: conversation is which of those guys is the best? It's
- 32:55Speaker 1: which of those guys all viewed is very similarly great
- 32:58Speaker 1: players gives me the most valued right now? And I
- 33:01Speaker 1: think that's why the conversations just for me. I don't
- 33:04Speaker 1: think you need to pick apart the player in the
- 33:05Speaker 1: evaluation anymore than that you need to look at, okay,
- 33:08Speaker 1: right now, what takes this offense a step forward? What
- 33:10Speaker 1: helps Zach Taylor more, What helps Joe Burrow more? What
- 33:13Speaker 1: takes us forward more, and I think if outside looking in,
- 33:16Speaker 1: I believe that's one of these weapons. I believe it's
- 33:18Speaker 1: Jamar Chase or Kyle Pitts. However, that could be different
- 33:21Speaker 1: in the locker room. That could be different in the
- 33:22Speaker 1: front office. If they feel like the offensive line so
- 33:24Speaker 1: it's going to take this step forward, then they do
- 33:25Speaker 1: that as well. Is there anything about Joe burrows strengths
- 33:28Speaker 1: and weaknesses that makes you think that Pitts would be
- 33:31Speaker 1: an ideal fit. Joe burrows strengths and weaknesses is just
- 33:34Speaker 1: like the most one of the most accurate quarterbacks we've
- 33:35Speaker 1: ever seen. So like getting him players that can make
- 33:38Speaker 1: place after the catch and consistently get open is what's
- 33:41Speaker 1: going to help this offense the most. I mean, he's
- 33:44Speaker 1: not bad under pressure. He's not super mobile, so like
- 33:47Speaker 1: you don't have the benefit that Lamar Jackson, Kyler Murray
- 33:50Speaker 1: or even at josh Alan Hatchmhomes necessarily has his good
- 33:53Speaker 1: out of structure. He's creative, but not necessarily athletic or
- 33:56Speaker 1: mobile and won't be a guy that you lean on
- 33:57Speaker 1: from a running perspective. You need protection up the LSWO
- 34:00Speaker 1: offensive line. In that season one I think the trophy
- 34:03Speaker 1: for best offensive line in the country. You want to
- 34:05Speaker 1: get better there, but you don't need to be elite there.
- 34:07Speaker 1: You know, you don't need to be elite in the trenches.
- 34:09Speaker 1: You just need to be good. And I think Jonah
- 34:11Speaker 1: Williams your three in his development. I loved him coming
- 34:13Speaker 1: out of Alabama. I think that is a good starter
- 34:15Speaker 1: in the NFL. Riley Reef is a good starter in
- 34:18Speaker 1: the NFL where there's where there's more glaring weaknesses, the
- 34:20Speaker 1: into your offensive line, add pieces there on day two
- 34:23Speaker 1: and day three, get better there, even ad veterans, if
- 34:25Speaker 1: there are guys still available in Frenzy, continue to chase
- 34:29Speaker 1: the floor, chase a high floor along the offensive line,
- 34:32Speaker 1: and then chase the ceiling at more valuable positions like
- 34:34Speaker 1: tight end in this case with Cowpits available, or wide
- 34:37Speaker 1: receiver with Jamar Chase or even DeVante Smiths, whoever they
- 34:39Speaker 1: feel like is best. Final question for Austen Gale from
- 34:42Speaker 1: Pro Football Focus. I've listened carefully. I also talked to
- 34:45Speaker 1: your colleague Anthony Trash a few weeks ago. He's a
- 34:48Speaker 1: big Jamar Chase guy. I have been for pinay sewel
- 34:52Speaker 1: all along I'm not sure that there's an argument that's
- 34:55Speaker 1: going to change my mind. If the Bengals take pinay
- 34:58Speaker 1: Sewel for the fifth overall pick in the draft, are
- 35:00Speaker 1: they making a mistake. No, they're not making a mistake.
- 35:03Speaker 1: That's the biggest thing with since a mannis you can't
- 35:05Speaker 1: make a mistake at five. With how many quarterbacks are
- 35:07Speaker 1: going to come off the board in the first four picks.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Three absolutely, maybe even four. You see a Denver or
- 35:13Speaker 1: a New England trade up to four with Atlanta to
- 35:15Speaker 1: grab a fourth quarterback, you can't make a mistake. I
- 35:18Speaker 1: think all of these players are blue ship players. If
- 35:20Speaker 1: you ask any analysts, any draft analysts, any scout in
- 35:23Speaker 1: the league, how they do these players? They say they're
- 35:25Speaker 1: top five, top ten players in the draft. That's it, Like,
- 35:27Speaker 1: you're not, it's not. You don't want to split hairs
- 35:29Speaker 1: between your fifth best player and your sixth best players.
- 35:31Speaker 1: They're all really really good. What you need to do
- 35:33Speaker 1: again is pick the player that you feel like is
- 35:35Speaker 1: gonna help roteam the most most efficiently. And I do
- 35:37Speaker 1: think the Pinasiul pick is the safer pick, not because
- 35:41Speaker 1: he's a more safe player. I like how Pitts is
- 35:43Speaker 1: a prospect. I like Tamar Chaser as a prospect. I
- 35:45Speaker 1: think pinas is a safer pick and that you're almost
- 35:48Speaker 1: his floor. Pinasol's floor is what you're chasing along the
- 35:51Speaker 1: offensive line anyway. If Pinasiual doesn't become Jonathan Odden, that's fine.
- 35:54Speaker 1: As long as he's a capable starter, top fifteen, top
- 35:57Speaker 1: ten player in his position, you've invested in a very
- 35:59Speaker 1: valuable position that will play on your team for a
- 36:02Speaker 1: long time. Jamar Chase and Kyle Pitts, if they are
- 36:05Speaker 1: only top fifteen players at their position, you kind of
- 36:08Speaker 1: busted there. You don't you need ceilings. You're chasing ceilings
- 36:11Speaker 1: with Pits and Chase. You're drafting Pits and Chase to
- 36:13Speaker 1: be top five. You're drafting chasing Pits to be legitimately
- 36:16Speaker 1: in the conversation for best at their position in quite
- 36:19Speaker 1: some time. So I think you're chasing more of a
- 36:21Speaker 1: ceiling with the wide receiver and tight ends there with
- 36:23Speaker 1: Pinney Schuel. If his floor is top fifteen, again, that
- 36:27Speaker 1: doesn't hurt your team. It doesn't hurt your team nearly
- 36:29Speaker 1: as much as maybe if Jamar Chase doesn't end up
- 36:31Speaker 1: hitting expectation or if Kyle Pitts doesn't hit expectation. Great
- 36:35Speaker 1: insight from my friend Austin Gail, not only an exceptional
- 36:39Speaker 1: analyst for Pro Football Focus, but now that Giovanni Bernard
- 36:42Speaker 1: is a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the man
- 36:44Speaker 1: with the best mustache in Cincinnati. Man, that's awesome. I
- 36:48Speaker 1: can't believe I got the honor that easy. My thanks
- 36:53Speaker 1: to Steve, Mick, Daniel and Austin. And that's going to
- 36:55Speaker 1: do it for this episode of the Bengals Booth Podcast,
