- 0:00SPEAKER_00: You know, I've been meaning to ask you guys, when there's something strange in your neighborhood, who are you gonna call?
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Ghostbusters! Uh you failed.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: It was supposed to be Project Ecology because that's who you're listening to right now.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Guys, welcome to episode 179 of Project Ecology.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: My name is Dakota, uh, and I am joined, as always, with Anthony Venckman.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: His name is not Venckman, but it is Anthony.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: It is Anthony, but it I am not a Ghostbuster.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: But, you know, we can't do it alone.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: We have to uh round off this triangle with Zool.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: There is only Zool.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: There is no Rich.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: That's Rich, guys.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Uh I mean Zool.
- 0:46SPEAKER_02: Um there's also no Jen this week.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Uh no Jen, only Gozer.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Uh, and Gozer is not uh presently here with us.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Unfortunately.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: You know, funny story.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: When I first started dating Jen, her original Instagram like title was Jen Zool.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: J-E-N-Z-U-L.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Um, and I thought that was a Ghostbusters ref reference.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: I I thought it was a Ghostbusters reference.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: I thought, you know, like there is there is no Jen, there is only Zool.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: I commented on it.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: I I mentioned it.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: It turns out her middle name is L-U-Z, Luz, uh, like light in Spanish.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: And she just turned it around, and that was that's that's the uh that's the reason for the Gen Zool.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Um it has nothing to do with Ghostbusters, but in my mind, I will always uh connect those two things.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: But yes, guys, we're talking about Ghostbusters 1984, and I think you can tell we're all rip-roaring and ready to go.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: This is uh gonna be a good time.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Uh but before we get into anything, what have we been up to?
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Rich, you go first, please.
- 1:59SPEAKER_02: Uh let's see.
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: I mean, I guess in uh personal news I uh my back seized up on me and I uh had to go to the doctor because I'm old.
- 2:07SPEAKER_02: I coughed when I was bending down.
- 2:08SPEAKER_02: Big mistake.
- 2:09SPEAKER_02: Don't do that.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: He coughed while he was bending down in a school staircase, uh, fell down not fell down the stairs, but fell onto the stairs, got lifted up by other like a like some track kids, and later had to get rushed out on a gurney.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Not a gurney, actually.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: It was a wheelchair.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: It was a wheelchair.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: This is listen, embarrassing for a guy who has a Wolverine beard, uh, just really embarrassing.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: But speaking of that, which is actually I think far more exciting and less embarrassing about my week, I got the Wolverine game.
- 2:41SPEAKER_02: I tried to get it on GameStop.
- 2:42SPEAKER_02: I ordered it on September 8th.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: It did not arrive by September 18th, so I canceled the order.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: Ended up getting the disc on GameStop.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: I mean uh through Amazon.
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: Wait, wait, wait.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Hold on, wait, wait, wait.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: You ordered it and it was over a week late?
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: It was over a week late.
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: I called them and they said, Oh, it'll be coming soon.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: And on Saturday I said, This is enough.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: That was the 18th.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: No musk.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: A lot of people had been talking about the game already, and I was very upset.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you've you've probably seen all like the bad press and like the the weird gameplay where you can just like play hands-free for a little bit.
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: Um look, I will I will speak to a couple of things.
- 3:21SPEAKER_02: Now, I am I am at the point in my gaming career where my son will shame me because he'll check my difficulty settings and notice that I I have them very low.
- 3:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: I don't care anymore about besting the game on the highest difficulty setting.
- 3:39SPEAKER_02: I just want to enjoy the money I spent, and when I do get time to game, I want to do well.
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: I don't want to play a baseball game against the Hall of Fame difficulty and lose a heartbreaker one to nothing after nine innings.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: I want to play against the rookie level and smash home runs.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: Alright, alright.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: So let's bring this back to Wolverine.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: How is it?
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: So Wolverine.
- 4:02SPEAKER_02: How is it?
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: Well, the thing is that, okay, listen, like the collectibles, it's it is I haven't been able to find a way to shut this part off.
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: You know, like the if the collectibles, I mean, it's like the salvation army on the corner ringing a bell trying to get you to give them money, right?
- 4:20SPEAKER_02: I won't lie.
- 4:20SPEAKER_02: I won't lie.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: It's bad.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: There's like these secrets.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: So it's impossible to like miss miss the collectibles.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: Oh, the chests are the chests that are like there's I think there's like three way.
- 4:30SPEAKER_02: They're knocking, it's it it's they're they're they're they're pulsating.
- 4:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're pulsating.
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: There are some secret side missions you could do, which are revealed by a giant purple tree branch that brings you exactly where you need to go.
- 4:49SPEAKER_02: Now, listen, in my younger years, I may have been angry.
- 4:56SPEAKER_02: Okay?
- 4:56SPEAKER_02: I'm not gonna lie to you.
- 4:58SPEAKER_02: I'm having fun.
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: I'm just destroying people with Wolverine in a completely bloody and visceral way.
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: It's the gutter of the comic that I read as a kid, right?
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: You'd see him approach people and then you'd see kind of the result, but you wouldn't see the real dismemberment, right?
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: This gives you that.
- 5:22SPEAKER_02: Look, if you're looking for a challenge, if you're looking for something akin to Spider-Man 2, the truth is, I don't think that the Wolverine character can have that game.
- 5:32SPEAKER_02: He's too violent for a sandbox.
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: What is he gonna kill?
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: Everyone in New York City?
- 5:36SPEAKER_02: Like, it just doesn't work.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: This was more like Uncharted in a way, and yeah, dumbed down, Uncharted makes you solve puzzles.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: This does seem like if you're legally blind and deaf, you'd still be able to collect all the collectibles.
- 5:50SPEAKER_02: Uh, I somehow still missed one of the whiskey bottles in the second level or something, so I'm really embarrassed about that because I don't know how that's possible.
- 5:58SPEAKER_02: But you know what?
- 5:59SPEAKER_02: It's Wolverine.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: If you like Wolverine, look, the graphics are great.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: He was probably drinking some whiskey at the time, that's why.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, man! He drinks whiskey in the game.
- 6:09SPEAKER_02: I gotta have a little whiskey when I was playing the game.
- 6:11SPEAKER_02: Like, I you know what?
- 6:13SPEAKER_02: I can kind of not pay attention.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: There are these, there, there are a couple side missions that are just like move forward, right?
- 6:20SPEAKER_02: It's it's unbelievable.
- 6:22SPEAKER_02: And I took off the auto jump or something, but it's literally I'm just pressing the sprint button and like kind of jumping, and and you don't even have to change the direction you're looking in, and you still complete the thing.
- 6:33SPEAKER_02: It's it's freaking fantastic.
- 6:35SPEAKER_02: I feel I'm on like the normal difficulty or like the and I'm just I'm killing it.
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: Like I'm doing very well.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: I feel good about myself.
- 6:44SPEAKER_02: This feels like playing dodgeball against kindergarten kids, and you know what?
- 6:48SPEAKER_02: I would still enjoy the victory, ladies and gentlemen.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: I I think that would actually be very satisfying playing dodgeball against kindergartners.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: Like, I think that there would be like a certain like satisfaction to like the sound it would make as it like ping, ping, you know, Billy Madison, man.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: No, I I 100% I get it.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: I get it.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Um I get the idea of like wanting to just enjoy things on autoplay.
- 7:12SPEAKER_02: And Dakota, other than um, other than losing the the ring uh in Rushville, what have you been up to?
- 7:20SPEAKER_02: Oh, um I you guys can't see this, but Dakota, Dakota's cause, he he's actually a dad who's sleep deprived and back to work, but he looks like Hal Jordan from the Lantern series, who's just like angry with the Guardians.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: Like it's it's really difficult uh to figure out which one he is right now.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: I haven't watched episode six of Lantern, so I don't actually know if that's a reference to episode six.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: I'm okay with it if it is.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: Um but I I will say that I have caught up at least to episode five um of Lanterns.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Good show, really enjoying it.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: Not a date in sight, folks.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: There is there is no single month, month, day, day, year, year, year date in sight.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: But um I am on the hunt, as always.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: I I will take over the what have we been doing this week.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: I've I've continued working on my project.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: Long live the timeline.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: I keep I keep talking about this, but today is actually like a pretty big milestone for the project for me.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: As of today, I have at least one entry for every single calendar day of the year, including including leap year.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: And leap year is kind of a cheat because it's a Lord of the Rings day and it doesn't actually take place in our world, but I'm still gonna count it.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: I'm still gonna count it, folks.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but uh yeah, I'm I'm I'm having a good time working on my project and building out the app.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: I've gotten pretty uh it actually looks and feels really good.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: You know, I have like a test version on my phone and I've been playing around with it every day, seeing like how it reacts to certain things, the the swiping aspect to it, uh making sure everything feels good and doesn't act weird.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: Everything's going smoothly so far.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: The the title and the franchise page um like of the browse view feature for my my product is actually looking really cool, and I'm really excited about it.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: And I have uh you know, I keep thinking about more things to add to the functionality of it, and I'm I'm I'm just having a blast with it.
- 9:27SPEAKER_02: Can we have a uh just about like like a a kind of a G give us a GTA release prediction for this?
- 9:35SPEAKER_02: You know, like it's okay.
- 9:37SPEAKER_02: Like if you say it now, you can delay it another seven months and say the quality is gonna be better.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: Um what uh what season is it?
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: I guess it's autumn.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: Autumn 2026.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: So let's say autumn 2026.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: Oh baby! Guys, that means really soon.
- 9:55SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm uh can you do me a favor?
- 9:58SPEAKER_02: And I know that you really don't want to do this because you're trying to stick to like actual stuff that you find in media, but could you add the day that it's launched into the into the library?
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: You know what?
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: I might figure out a way to do it into the metadata, but it it'll be interesting to figure out how to find it.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, uh well, probably not, but yes, maybe, sure, no.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: Um today, I'll give you I'll give you a fun little today is folks, September 23rd, 2026.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: Um one special date today that's worth bringing up is uh not of this world, but uh 3018 of the third age in Tolkien's Legendarium.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: The Lord of the Rings of Fellowship of the Ring, Frodo, Sam, Mary, and Pippin leave Bagend and they begin their journey towards Mordor.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: Uh so this is Hobbit Day.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: Happy Hobbit Day to everyone listening, even though you're listening to us uh a couple at least like 15-16 days past this point.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: But yeah, uh Project Ecology listeners, um, the the project I'm working on, long love the timeline, is going smooth.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: Uh but we have we have to listen to to what Anthony's been up to.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: Um have have how how's uh your your skating life been?
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: Oh um what was that?
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I've been yeah the the free skates man I I've been I've been getting better with them but I'm definitely still trying to get better with the balance.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: I've gotten better, but I'm definitely still trying to get better with kind of like moving, you know, getting the the motion that you need to to kind of keep going, not like just pushing off of something and then just like going in a straight line.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: Now I'm trying to just move in a straight line on my like you know own you know with my legs.
- 12:03SPEAKER_02: So are you ice skating or what are these?
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: No, no, it's it's called it's called freeline skating.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: Um or f yeah, well like freeline skating or free skating or drift skating.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: And it's like little mini like skateboard slash inline skates that like you put one foot on each and like you kind of skate that way.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: It's super crazy.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: You know, I call it a pre-midlife crisis, but you know what?
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: It it's pretty fun.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: It's it's it's a fun thing to learn.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm I I like the feeling of accomplishment, like when I like learn something that's tough.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: It I mean it just it feels great, you know.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Um so I'm still still in the uh the learning process of you know, I'm still semi-bambi on ice, you know, but I'm getting there.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: He's getting better, folks.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: Have some faith in him.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: What else is what else have you been up to?
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: I have been living in a Final Fantasy Wonderland.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: I have been just like playing Final Fantasy so much.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: Uh he has been in a he's been in a fugue state folks where he's just been it's just Final Fantasy left and right.
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: I have been playing Final Fantasy XIV, Final Fantasy XII, and I started collecting some uh Final Fantasy X stuff.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: Final Fantasy X is my I would say my favorite.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: Uh I know that a lot of people like seven, a lot of people like nine.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: Twelve.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: Final Fantasy I I I think Final Fantasy X, the reason why I like it so much is that it was like really my like first dive into Final Fantasy and kind of understanding what I was doing.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: Like I've m I've messed around with them when I was younger, but I didn't really understand what was going on.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: Um I did play Chocobo Racing before, you know, the goaded Chocobo Racing.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: I I tried it out I tried it out again, like I emulated it the other day, and I was like, man, what was I thinking?
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: But it's it it was still fun.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, like I I I I I would definitely like to cover a Final Fantasy game at some point during the the podcast.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: I know Dakota has played Final Fantasy.
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: Rich, have you played any Final Fantasy?
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: Basically only seven.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: And uh for the what is it?
- 14:45SPEAKER_02: PlayStation 2?
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think that's the one.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's the one I played.
- 14:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, PS1 was a good one.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: Since it was back when it was compatible.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: It was my first two disc game.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: I I remember, yeah, that I that have a hit.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: But I think, you know, what I didn't realize about it at the time, like when eight came out, I was so excited, and then I got so upset when I found out that they're different stories.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: And I basically decided never to I got so upset about like I love Cloud, alright?
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: I love Aerith, alright?
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: Uh so many of those I love those characters, and then poof.
- 15:23SPEAKER_02: Bye-bye.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: Goodbye, Bowza.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: Like, that's not fair, you know?
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: Hurt my feelings, but I'd I would uh I tried playing the the remaster of seven a little bit, but I I don't think my heart was in it.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: Um so I'd have to revisit it.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it it is really, really good.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: I mean they they do make some changes on some stuff, like literally the the first game is essentially the first two hours of the original game stretched out to just I think like forty-fifty hours.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: So wow, all right.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: So it's just like that.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: Then the second one really opens up.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: That's where like you get into like the airship, and then the last part is coming out next year.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: But um, you know, just to kind of rail it back, uh, you know, just that that's what I've been up to playing Final Fantasy.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, Dakota's uh Final Fantasy XII head.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: So so yeah, that that's that's what I've been up to living in the the FF island.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: I also I also have a soft spot for Final Fantasy XIII.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: Um I that kind of popped up around the time of my like high school years, and I I actually like beat and like platinumed those three games before my PlayStation account like mysteriously just poofed and I I lost all that information.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: Like I had like a bunch of games platinum, including the Uncharted games and everything, but no more.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: So yeah, there's no proof of it.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: It's just it's just my word.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: There's there's no proof of it.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: Uh just just my word, and my word is uh not very not very good these days.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: Um but you know what is good?
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: What is consistently good?
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: Uh Ghostbusters.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was that was one of my better segues for sure, for sure.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: Um, let's talk about Ghostbusters, guys.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: We have not I don't think we've even said the word Ghostbusters on the show before.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: Like this it this just can't kind of came out of nowhere, even though like each of us has seen it, um, and each of us probably holds it to high regard.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: This is uh kind of out of left field a little bit, and it's totally within our wheelhouse.
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: So we're gonna we're gonna talk the crap out of this.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: Um what are your original opinions about the Ghostbusters film?
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: Maybe not the Ghostbusters Ghostbusters franchise, but like specifically Ghostbusters 1984.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Um I guess I'll start.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: I kind of always grew like grew up like not watching anything supernatural or um any any sort of I guess like paranormal or like possession stuff or anything like that.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: So watching Ghostbusters as a kid was kind of like a weird treat because at least in my dad's mind, this is comedy, you know, like this is this is comedy gold.
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: And I still consider it comedy gold.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: And I I just I find it such a charming um mythology.
- 18:37SPEAKER_00: I find it such a charming um piece of fiction, and I I I just kind of dive into the mythology of it whenever I watch it, just because like you're only like tapping the surface of the mythology with this first film.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: And I I think that the that's what I've always loved about it, is like you are for whatever reason, like the there's like a paranormal spike in New York City, and uh these four guys who are in way over their head are gonna figure it out, but they don't actually like figure it out, they just kind of fix it, you know.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: Like, and I think that that is fun.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: I think it's a fun time.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: What about you, Ann?
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I so Ghostbusters is one of those movies that like I mean, you know, I grew up on that because of my dad.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: The same thing with movies like uh Back to the Future and a lot and a lot of those like really like fun 80s movies.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: I you know, I grew up on it, you know, I grew up watching them, you know.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: I and dude, the the theme song to Ghostbusters is super iconic.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: Like everybody, as soon as it starts, everybody knows that it is from Ghostbusters.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: It could be somebody who's 80 or somebody who's 10.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: That's everybody's heard of like what Ghost Ghostbusters is, or if you haven't, you'll learn about it, you know.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: And it's something that's you know, we're rolling around that that time of the year where you know people will start, um, you know, they'll throw this into their their playlist, or you know, even uh radio stations, they'll start playing uh Halloween mixes and like this is always thrown in there.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: Um right next to Monster Mash.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: So it's you know it's yeah, it it's something that that I've grow grown up with and I look back on fondly, and it's always it's always a fun time.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: I I re it's insane how stacked this movie is with actors and actresses.
- 20:42SPEAKER_02: Rich, tell us.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: Uh to quote the song, I bustin' makes me feel good.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: Um I uh by the way, that's the best uh you if you never heard the entire song.
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: That's uh my favorite it's my favorite line.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: Uh it's inexplicable.
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: Uh I can't believe it's in it, but it's fantastic.
- 20:59SPEAKER_02: Uh oh, so interestingly enough, I remember the second one way more than I remember the first one when I re-watched the first one.
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: I don't know if that's just a product of there's a channel in New York called WPIX, Channel 11, when I was growing up.
- 21:15SPEAKER_02: They always had numerous movies playing on the weekends, and you know, they would play stuff like this.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: My dad, I don't think, was a huge fan of the movies overall.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: I do recall that one of my crowning achievements as a young child was getting my family to buy me the Ghostbusters uh firehouse.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: So it was the only standing structure I had for all of my toys.
- 21:39SPEAKER_02: You know, my Ninja Turtles there, Batman was there.
- 21:43SPEAKER_02: Like it was basically if I asked for another lair, they're like, You have the Ghostbusters thing, you know.
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: So that was like my crowning achievement.
- 21:51SPEAKER_02: I'm pretty sure I had the backpack, I had the the ghost catcher or the the spirit catcher trap or.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: I was uh pretty like I was you know, I'm a little older than you guys, so I I don't know about you, like you probably saw some of the zanier toys as a result of the cartoon, and I don't even know if you guys saw that, but like I was a cartoon show watcher, I had the toys, I had the backpack, like I was pretty into Ghostbusters.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: I uh I wanted to be raised danz.
- 22:26SPEAKER_02: Well no, I wanted to be Peter Frankman, but I knew that I was Race Dans.
- 22:29SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, things like that.
- 22:31SPEAKER_02: Like I I really enjoyed it, but from a weird from like a weird I it was definitely the marketing, you know, like for like I got swept up in the commercials because I definitely watched TV, the cartoon show more than I watched the movie as a kid.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: Wait, you said you watched the cartoon more than you watched the movies?
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I uh I was really uh avid cartoon watcher.
- 22:55SPEAKER_02: Uh I watched the movies, but you know, the cartoon is a little zenier, and and it had a lot, you know, there was a lot more in there.
- 23:02SPEAKER_02: Like you're when you're talking about the lore, like you get some in the movies, but then you get so much in the in the cartoon as well.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: So I'm trying to, you know, it's it's funny.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: I can kind of picture the cartoon in my head, but when I think of Ghostbusters, I would never in a million years like go to that first.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: In fact, I would probably go to like the 2011 game before I would.
- 23:25SPEAKER_02: Oh, I remember that too.
- 23:27SPEAKER_02: That was so great.
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: That was a fun time.
- 23:29SPEAKER_00: That was no, it was a fun time in gaming because if I remember correctly, it started as a demo that some guy was working on for years.
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: It wasn't even like a licensed thing, it's just like I'm gonna make a Ghostbusters game, and it looked good.
- 23:45SPEAKER_00: It looked really good, and then like the studio actually picked it up and it it turned out to be a decent game.
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: It was it was fun, whatever.
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I I I can picture the the card.
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna look it up right now, actually.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: Just because I want to make sure that I'm thinking about the right thing.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: But I I it probably had kind of similar-ish vibes to like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I'm guessing.
- 24:07SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah.
- 24:09SPEAKER_02: You know, I really like Ghostbusters.
- 24:11SPEAKER_02: So it I mean the franchise really kind of for a hot moment.
- 24:16SPEAKER_02: I mean, it was a big, big deal, Ghostbusters.
- 24:19SPEAKER_02: It wasn't, you know, like Anthony said with the the song was blowing up everywhere.
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: I mean, you know, if you're of a certain age, everybody hears that song and knows, you know, immediately thinks of Ghostbusters.
- 24:31SPEAKER_02: I think it's left an indelible mark almost.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: Uh on uh it's kind of crazy how little they look like their characters.
- 24:39SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's uh yeah, no, it's it's kind of nuts.
- 24:41SPEAKER_02: They made the ego like a nine he looks like a 1950s greaser.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's he's interesting looking.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: Like he's actually like kind of like a hunk.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: It's kind of weird.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: He's got like a pompadour.
- 24:52SPEAKER_00: He's got the pompadour going on, he's got like the chiseled jawline.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: What's going on?
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, like Stance and Fenckman are kind of awkward looking.
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: Weird.
- 25:01SPEAKER_02: Doesn't make sense.
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: Doesn't make sense, but it isn't a it's a thing that existed.
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: So that's cool, man.
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: Um you're you're definitely coming at this from a different perspective than the two of us.
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: Uh, I don't think I've ever seen the show.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: I've I've definitely seen clips of the show or like still images of that because I I don't like I look at that and I'm like, okay, I've seen that before, but I've I don't have any emotional attachment to it.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: But that's cool.
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: So Ant, let's let's go back to you.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: Now that you are re-watching this movie in the big 2026, how do you feel it holds up?
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: I still see it as that that classic.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: It's still really fun to watch.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: I I think it I think the jokes still land pretty well.
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: And it's it's like one of those things that you know ha have you ever gone like you've looked back on something fondly that you saw a while ago, then you go back to watch it and it's like completely different than what you remember it as.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: But that doesn't happen here.
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: It's exactly how I remember it.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: And so you know, like when things were happening, like what was you know, the next thing that was about to happen would like play in my mind, because like you know, I mean I've seen it several times throughout the years, so I've definitely seen like each of these movies and I and I kind of like hold them in the same place, and I think as like back to the future, and I think it's because they came out around the same time that like I feel like although they're very different, they're still like very much so almost like two sides of the same coin.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: Like they feel there's there's a vibe that both of them give off that's very similar, even though like one is time travel and then the other one is you know they're fighting ghosts.
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: You know, there's there's just a there's I don't know, there's something about the nature.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: I'll tell you what it is.
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: It is it is the type of science fiction that they're um showcasing to the audience.
- 27:11SPEAKER_00: There's a a level of jargon that's there's a there's a level of um jargon that is like vomited onto the script and into the camera um that sounds like it makes total sense.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: You know, like like this this is this this will definitely work, but in reality it's just it's just techno babble.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: And it's the same with both Back to the Future and I think Back to the Future does it a little bit better because they there's a lot more that goes on and you know, getting you to believe that the time machine um in a car works.
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: But it's the same basic principle with the like the proton colliders and the the the I forget what the the packs are called, but you know, the the stuff that actually takes the ghosts and captures it all.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: But I for me, at least that's that's how I f I view this.
- 28:08SPEAKER_00: Like I don't know if that's what you were like trying to say, but then like weren't able weren't able to like come to that conclusion, but like for me it's it's the techno-babble aspect, you know, like it's they they say it in a way that it makes sense while you're watching it, but if you really think about it, it's nonsense.
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: It's it means nothing.
- 28:26SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: And I think that it it it transcends to just the feeling that it also gives, like it they give similar feelings too, um, when you're watching it.
- 28:37SPEAKER_01: So but yeah, no, the good feelings.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, definitely.
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: But yeah, no, I it's it's a good time.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: It and like I said, man, that that that theme is so like iconic.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: You you know, it it's like I said, as soon as it starts, be like and it goes like a little bit before you even hear any lyrics, and you know that it's Ghostbusters, you know exactly that it's Ghostbusters.
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: And Ellen Ripley's in this one, guys.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: Unbelievable.
- 29:06SPEAKER_02: I um you know what caught me off guard was actually that you know I remember her from I remember Riley being in the second Ghostbusters movie and forgot that Riley is in both.
- 29:19SPEAKER_02: And it's like uh why did who decided to say Gordon Weaver was, you know, the quote unquote hot chick in the sci-fi movies?
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: Uh it's kind of weird uh looking back.
- 29:31SPEAKER_02: But uh that that definitely caught me off guard a little bit.
- 29:34SPEAKER_02: But then again, also the fact that in this movie uh Bill Murray is like the and I mean it's not the only movie where Bill Murray is cast as like the attractive male lead, supposedly, you know, which is uh it's you know, it's you know, I don't know.
- 29:50SPEAKER_02: It always struck me as like as James Gandalfini got like, you know, and as as Sopranos went on, you know, you're just sometimes looking at these women like this guy does not look good.
- 30:00SPEAKER_02: What are you doing?
- 30:00SPEAKER_02: You know, is it just for power, I guess?
- 30:03SPEAKER_02: But uh that it it is a little weird that he's just such he's a quackpot like college professor, right?
- 30:11SPEAKER_02: Who seemingly has scammed the university for years studying something that he's not supposed to that they don't believe in.
- 30:18SPEAKER_02: And uh he's just very attractive, and he's like shocking, he's like shocking, you know, students with ElectroShock and for five dollars.
- 30:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's for like five dollars, like 180 quid.
- 30:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's a terrible guy.
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: I mean, like he's kind of awful, you know.
- 30:36SPEAKER_02: I but uh it it made me laugh, and then you know, she still falls for him, and I love how angry her like violinist friend gets, you know, like I I can't flirt like that, you know.
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: Like all I've got is my music, you know, and then who's that?
- 30:52SPEAKER_02: Like it's just um and also did you guys find that it was a little bit longer than you remember it being?
- 30:59SPEAKER_02: Not that it's bad, and not that I disliked it, but at one point, like I pressed pause, and like it had been like an hour or something.
- 31:06SPEAKER_02: It's like uh it's actually over two hours.
- 31:08SPEAKER_02: So I was a little surprised, and I was like, oh, there's a whole hour left, you know.
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I find it wild, and I look this up.
- 31:16SPEAKER_01: Bill Murray was 33 years old in this movie.
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: He looks and I was like, that is a rough 33.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: Rich is in his 40s and looks younger than him in this in his film.
- 31:31SPEAKER_02: I appreciate you, man.
- 31:33SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 31:33SPEAKER_02: You've it's so many burning points.
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: I'm like, bro.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: I was like, I looked it up and I said, yeah, no, I would have believed 43, but 33?
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: That's crazy.
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: I was like, that's a year younger than I am now, and I don't look that old.
- 31:49SPEAKER_02: And that's crazy.
- 31:50SPEAKER_02: That's 80, that's what, 84, right?
- 31:53SPEAKER_02: So that means that like all those other movies that came out where he was like a romantic lead were like later in the 80s.
- 31:59SPEAKER_02: So my dude's like damn near 40.
- 32:02SPEAKER_02: But then somehow in Lost in Translation, like it's like he cat yeah, Bill Murray did something where like he looked really old, really young, but he capped out.
- 32:10SPEAKER_02: Like at like he capped out at looking like 59 for like 27 years, you know.
- 32:16SPEAKER_00: I think he realized that like smiling aged him.
- 32:19SPEAKER_00: You know, it's it's what gave him like all those wrinkles, you know.
- 32:21SPEAKER_00: So like by the time of Lost in Translation, he realized, no more smiling.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna be very straight-faced, very depressed looking, but it'll keep my youth a little bit longer.
- 32:32SPEAKER_00: Um we should re we should revisit that film one day.
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: That was a great that was a great time, yeah.
- 32:37SPEAKER_00: Absolutely, absolutely.
- 32:39SPEAKER_00: Um, so I want to talk a little bit about that because I think coming at Venckman from the modern day is interesting because obviously he's a creep.
- 32:51SPEAKER_00: You know, like if you saw this guy doing this stuff in in your workplace, you'd be like, what is wrong with you, dude?
- 32:58SPEAKER_00: Stop it.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: Stop.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: Uh you're gonna get reported.
- 33:01SPEAKER_00: So it's funny, like I'm watching it, and my wife Jen, she she's thinking, like, um, you know, it's funny when you're watching it on TV or like on a on a movie, but I wonder if this is why guys were creeps for like so long.
- 33:16SPEAKER_00: You know, just like movies taught them that this is okay and that girls actually like this.
- 33:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean it there, you know, there is the the the guy who goes out of his way, you know, whether it's you know, like it it's it's almost like it's not creepy, it's dedication, right?
- 33:35SPEAKER_02: Oh, you you find me on that side of my place of work.
- 33:39SPEAKER_02: You know, even we watched Major League where he follows her home from her job and like goes into her apartment, and then the next day uh oh no, he goes it and ends up being like her fiance's apartment that he walks into, you know, like and that's supposed to be a romantic, you know, because he's he's persisting.
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: So I guess it's great.
- 34:05SPEAKER_01: Like I find that absolutely like why is there no door between or hallway between this elevator?
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: Like this, like you don't people could just like go in.
- 34:19SPEAKER_01: Like I know I think that there's I mean, I I I think that this does exist for some places, and I think that you uh only access.
- 34:29SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 34:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you should have a fob or but like what if the thing malfunctions, you know, and it sends you up that way anyway.
- 34:36SPEAKER_01: Like, bro, you can't you can never a hundred percent trust technology.
- 34:43SPEAKER_02: You're just trying to sc you're walking through your living room trying to, you know, scratching your butt after grabbing a seltzer in the middle of the night and DoorDash for the wrong apartment just walks in, you know, like that would be terrible.
- 34:54SPEAKER_02: What a visual.
- 34:55SPEAKER_02: But you know, uh speaking of visuals, uh, what did you guys think about the juicy ending?
- 35:01SPEAKER_02: You know, it just seemed like there was uh there was a ghost juice everywhere.
- 35:05SPEAKER_02: Um perhaps interpreted some other ways, but I think that um the the last scene is a little weird, don't you don't you guys all think?
- 35:14SPEAKER_02: Um I don't think it's it's it's kind of juicy.
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: It is alright, I see I see where this is headed.
- 35:20SPEAKER_00: Um let's round this out.
- 35:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so we we get Gozer.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: That is like the the main ghost that um has been uh being led up to throughout this this entire like all the paranormal activity that's been happening over the course of you know a month or two has been leading up to this moment where Gozer is ready to come out of this very spooky random tower that exists in Central Park, which I fascinating mythology.
- 35:52SPEAKER_00: Again, I I just I keep coming back to it.
- 35:54SPEAKER_00: Like they touch on it, like for whatever reason, this this place was built with certain specifications that are very, very strange and like completely uh extraordinary.
- 36:04SPEAKER_02: Um and then can I uh can I give you a little bit of insight?
- 36:07SPEAKER_02: Please I wonder.
- 36:08SPEAKER_02: Please I wonder if they just didn't well I mean you know historically the island of Manhattan was you know sold for a very you know for a a small a pit you know a a small amount of pittance, right?
- 36:22SPEAKER_02: And I mean maybe it's an implication of there's some kind of s animism or spiritualism tied to uh Native Americans uh inhabiting the island.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: It's never mentioned, but I mean if we want to go lore-wise, like what other people are?
- 36:39SPEAKER_00: I mean, they were they were bringing up Sumerians, bro.
- 36:42SPEAKER_00: You were talking about like deep Middle East, like yeah, well, that's that was weird too.
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: They're bringing up stuff that's like 6,000 years old.
- 36:51SPEAKER_02: Like um maybe maybe someone found a scarab and they brought it over or something.
- 36:55SPEAKER_02: Dude, I miss the mummy, I really do.
- 36:57SPEAKER_02: Um I you know, that could be a great way for them to even talk about it, right?
- 37:02SPEAKER_02: Like it's something like that was found at the Natural Museum of History or the or the Met or you know, whatever, and it came alive.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: Um wait, that's that's the next movie, sorry.
- 37:12SPEAKER_00: Yes, I wasn't sure if that was like I wasn't sure if you were teeing us off for Night at the Museum or Ghostbusters 2.
- 37:19SPEAKER_02: But no, I I I So Anthony, Anthony, I want you to know something.
- 37:23SPEAKER_02: I wanted to watch Ghostbusters 2 in the worst way, right?
- 37:27SPEAKER_02: And I just had like an angel devil on my shoulder, and you were the angel going, no, Rich, don't watch it.
- 37:35SPEAKER_02: Like you're gonna confuse the movies.
- 37:37SPEAKER_02: So I I I actually I ended up starting watching like the Penguin series again just because I I needed something to block me from watching Ghostbusters 2.
- 37:47SPEAKER_00: Well, we appreciate your restraint, Rich.
- 37:49SPEAKER_00: We actually really do.
- 37:50SPEAKER_00: Um bad I am, guys.
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: It's terrible.
- 37:53SPEAKER_00: This guy will watch like he'll watch the same movie four times and then watch its sequel six times.
- 37:58SPEAKER_00: It's it's bizarre.
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, uh going back to the the whole juicy ending, um, Gozer takes the form of something that whatever they're thinking of, you know, he's just like like he could have thought about anything, but he thought about the stay puff the stay-puffed marshmallow man.
- 38:17SPEAKER_00: Um and it is one of the most iconic uh 80s things possible, you know, like it is it is the like it's the you think of it when you think of Ghostbusters, like I yes, it is 100%.
- 38:31SPEAKER_01: You think of that and you think of Slimer too.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes.
- 38:35SPEAKER_02: Um you guys know it was foreshadowed right before like right before it's gonna like that that battle's gonna happen.
- 38:42SPEAKER_02: I saw the marshmallow bag.
- 38:44SPEAKER_02: Yep, a stay puff like uh on the building, like the the ad is there too.
- 38:48SPEAKER_01: So there was a dropping bag too that I saw that it had him on it, yeah.
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: And it kind of reminds me, like Anthony was saying, how this is like back to the future like like back to the future does a really good job of foreshadowing so much that's gonna happen later.
- 39:04SPEAKER_00: I also want to talk a bit of you know, Anthony's bringing up the the foreshadowing of the stay puffed marshmallow bag that occurs earlier in the film, and he's talking about the scene in Dana's kitchen where the eggs are popping up and starting to boil on the counter.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: I just the the marshmallow bag is right there.
- 39:23SPEAKER_00: It's right next to the eggs, but somehow only the eggs are boiling.
- 39:27SPEAKER_00: Dude, this is one of the cre I cannot for the life of me fathom how they boiled the eggs on the counter without anything else being, you know, like lit up or incinerated.
- 39:39SPEAKER_00: I sometimes I I'm like amazed at the practical effects that these older movies employed.
- 39:45SPEAKER_00: Like there's a there's the scene in the beginning where the librarian is walking through the shelves and then books float behind her back and forth seamlessly to other shelves.
- 39:57SPEAKER_00: Like so, like there was no string in front of her when she walked, but there must have been a string, uh a string like holding the books as they went side to side.
- 40:07SPEAKER_00: It it's a it it boggles my mind how they managed to make that effect, but that's the power of the the creativity of the movies of this time period, and I I I love it, I love it.
- 40:18SPEAKER_00: And so as an adult, I'm coming at this um just as a I mean I'm in I'm trying to enjoy it at the same time, but I'm also just trying to appreciate how it was constructed.
- 40:28SPEAKER_00: Um and I think that that is just one of the most impressive things about this movie is like some of the effects look really good.
- 40:40SPEAKER_00: Slimer floating around the chandeliers, it's seamless.
- 40:44SPEAKER_00: You don't you don't question it.
- 40:45SPEAKER_00: He it's it's you know, he's there, but he's not.
- 40:48SPEAKER_00: You know he's not, but like he is there, and it's it's uh it's amazing what they were capable of doing in 1984.
- 40:55SPEAKER_01: I find it funny how like the how Slimer kind of becomes a little bit of a mascot of Ghostbusters, but he has such a small role in this movie.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: It's well in the cartoon.
- 41:07SPEAKER_00: I'm looking at the yeah, I'm looking at the front, like the poster for the cartoon.
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: I'm showing it under the camera right now.
- 41:12SPEAKER_00: You guys can't hear it, but Slimer's in the poster for the cartoon.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: But a lot of times when I see like anything with with uh Ghostbusters on it, it almost always has Slimer on it too.
- 41:26SPEAKER_02: So did you guys have the um the ectocooler?
- 41:29SPEAKER_01: He's like the Pikachu for Ghostbusters.
- 41:31SPEAKER_02: Did you guys have the high-see ecto cooler?
- 41:34SPEAKER_00: I think I might have had some actually.
- 41:36SPEAKER_00: That that does sound familiar.
- 41:38SPEAKER_01: I had a sour beer that was an ecto cooler one, and it was green and everything.
- 41:43SPEAKER_01: Dude, actually, it was really good.
- 41:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 41:45SPEAKER_02: I remember my friend uh I guess he had it for breakfast and then he got sick in the hallway when we were lined up for the class and you just see green everywhere.
- 41:53SPEAKER_02: We're like, ah, ectocooler.
- 41:55SPEAKER_02: But yeah, I know I'm telling you, man, the advertising was like you guys I think you guys are and I'm uh you know just like young enough, like there's just a little bit of a gap because it just there was a crazy amount of advertising and then it just disappeared.
- 42:11SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 42:11SPEAKER_02: It was just gone.
- 42:13SPEAKER_02: Like never to be seen again.
- 42:15SPEAKER_02: Like after 91 or 92, they didn't even really replay it.
- 42:20SPEAKER_02: Like it they wasn't in syndication anywhere really.
- 42:23SPEAKER_02: It it's weird, it died on a vine, the cartoon, and then there was obviously no movement with the movies and and the I think the toys kind of played their like they just got to the end of their line and people were less interested in it.
- 42:35SPEAKER_02: So it it was definitely like a a moment in time where Ghostbusters was really, really, really cool and everywhere.
- 42:43SPEAKER_02: I mean, just in food products.
- 42:44SPEAKER_02: Like that's not a lot of franchises that only have two movies like this that really aren't aimed for kids.
- 42:52SPEAKER_02: Like, let's be frank here.
- 42:54SPEAKER_02: I watched the first one again and I realized this it's funny, but not in kid not kid funny, right?
- 43:00SPEAKER_02: Like the second one is is a think a little bit funnier almost uh overtly and a little bit more for kids, but I wouldn't say they're really kids' movies, you know?
- 43:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's definitely I mean they they definitely can be enjoyed by kids and it's fun to watch, but the the actual themes um are pretty dark, you know, like possession and like not being like in your own body anymore.
- 43:29SPEAKER_00: And um that the whole scene with Venckman and Dana where she's like the uh I am Zool.
- 43:34SPEAKER_00: I actually, you know, speaking of like Venckman being a creep and everything, he could have totally taken advantage of her in that moment, but like he actually was the better man and realized this is not her, she's not in her right state.
- 43:46SPEAKER_00: And I think that that is actually a good um um message to send to to younger people watching the movie.
- 43:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 43:54SPEAKER_02: I'm a psychol I have a Jaguaring psychology and I'll use that to get women to sleep with me.
- 43:59SPEAKER_02: But If they're possessed?
- 44:01SPEAKER_02: No, absolutely not.
- 44:04SPEAKER_02: I have a line, sir.
- 44:05SPEAKER_00: I have integrity.
- 44:08SPEAKER_00: Good.
- 44:08SPEAKER_00: Good.
- 44:10SPEAKER_00: Dude, I'm I'm throwing Vanquin a bone here, right?
- 44:13SPEAKER_02: No, honestly, like, but it's it's the typical 80s, like, he's kind of creepy and douchey, but then at the end of the day, he's not actually a bad guy.
- 44:25SPEAKER_02: It's just his his veneer to protect himself from the outside world that has hurt him so much.
- 44:31SPEAKER_02: Fair, fair, fair, fair.
- 44:32SPEAKER_02: Oh, well, and what do you think about Winston, Anthony?
- 44:35SPEAKER_02: Because I think Winston's like the he's like at one point he says, like, I'm not sure if this is worth$16 an hour or something like that.
- 44:42SPEAKER_02: Like, he look why don't we get more backstory as to why he's willing to do this?
- 44:48SPEAKER_02: Because it doesn't seem to pay well enough.
- 44:50SPEAKER_00: He said$11.5.
- 44:52SPEAKER_00: Um, eleven five a year.
- 44:54SPEAKER_00: $11.5 a year.
- 44:55SPEAKER_00: So what does that mean?
- 44:56SPEAKER_00: Is he getting eleven thousand five hundred or uh$115,000?
- 45:04SPEAKER_00: Like what it's probably$11,500 to be honest.
- 45:07SPEAKER_00: But yeah.
- 45:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: Cause he he would have he probably would have said$115.
- 45:12SPEAKER_01: But uh Yeah, like he he does kind of like pop up out of nowhere.
- 45:18SPEAKER_01: Like like they put it, they put out an ad for an opening, and he's just like, yeah, I'm here.
- 45:24SPEAKER_00: It is weird actually.
- 45:25SPEAKER_00: Like, I I remember him being a part of the Ghostbusters longer.
- 45:29SPEAKER_00: That's the one thing that I was just like, I'm kind of surprised that he doesn't show up until like this, like after the montage, you know, like he he's showing up pretty late.
- 45:37SPEAKER_01: Dude, dude, he shows up in like what 41 minutes into the movie?
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: That that's a long time for like a crucial character, like you know, like when you think of Ghostbusters, you think of four people.
- 45:52SPEAKER_01: Their fourth guy doesn't show up until like like what what was it, an hour and a half, an hour and forty?
- 45:59SPEAKER_02: So Panthro vibes, man.
- 46:01SPEAKER_02: Panthro vibes.
- 46:02SPEAKER_02: He he shows up, he's he's he's different than everybody else.
- 46:05SPEAKER_02: He drives the car.
- 46:06SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 46:07SPEAKER_02: Like he very much feels like the panthro from Thundercats of of the Ghostbusters.
- 46:13SPEAKER_02: And I it almost feels like something was cut from the movie.
- 46:16SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 46:16SPEAKER_02: Like like one of his parts that gave him a little bit more other than like he's a good employee.
- 46:22SPEAKER_00: Like you there almost feels like there should have been like a backstory, like he he picked up the the advertisement some someplace after some event happens to him, you know?
- 46:33SPEAKER_00: Like I feel like that probably should have been.
- 46:34SPEAKER_01: Oh true, yeah.
- 46:36SPEAKER_01: Cause he eat like because when it like cuts to him, he's just like there at their location.
- 46:42SPEAKER_01: And you don't see him prior to that.
- 46:44SPEAKER_01: So yeah, no, that that is that is a bit crazy.
- 46:48SPEAKER_01: Um who I like the bad place is uh Rick Moranis.
- 46:51SPEAKER_00: Rick Moranis is the bad guy.
- 46:53SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 46:54SPEAKER_01: I like how they like squeaked him in there, Rick Moranis.
- 46:57SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 46:58SPEAKER_02: Anthony, who's who's the bad guy?
- 47:00SPEAKER_02: Is it Gozer or is it the same the the the EPA guy?
- 47:05SPEAKER_02: Because I I feel like at the end, even the cops are like, screw the EPA guy.
- 47:09SPEAKER_02: Like he's the he's almost the big bad guy.
- 47:12SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 47:12SPEAKER_00: I wish there was like some like I wish there was like a aha moment where like I'm the idiot who did this, like, oh no, you know, but he didn't take responsibility at all.
- 47:21SPEAKER_00: Even when he got that that juicy, juicy um marshmallow uh fluff covered on, you know, like he he got covered in that marshmallow fluff.
- 47:33SPEAKER_00: But um, yeah, so speaking about juice, there's a lot of juice in this movie, you know, like when it comes to the destruction of the marshmallow, um, the stays the stay puffed marshmallow guy, it was actually pretty easy.
- 47:46SPEAKER_00: They just had to, you know, cross a couple streams and then poof.
- 47:50SPEAKER_00: Um, but what was fascinating to me was the amount of juice contained around the scene, you know, like Dana and Rick Morandis, or I should say um Sigoni Weaver and Rick Morandis were uh independently within their own little cocoons of, you know, like like uh statue dogs basically.
- 48:14SPEAKER_00: But come the next morning when they're like walking down to the street, their hair is covered in this marshmallow fluff.
- 48:22SPEAKER_00: But like when they came out of their cocoons, they had no marshmallow fluff.
- 48:26SPEAKER_00: That's how much juice was just scattered around this place, dude.
- 48:30SPEAKER_00: So um I want you, listener, to go in if you haven't already.
- 48:35SPEAKER_00: I'm no, I know a lot of you have.
- 48:36SPEAKER_00: If you haven't already, please go into your um local uh podcast application, uh, find that review feature for our podcast, click that five star, and that's how we'll know that it's a juicy review, you know.
- 48:49SPEAKER_00: Like you can you can leave a couple of words if you'd like, but the five star is the probably the most important bit.
- 48:54SPEAKER_00: Um, and we appreciate that, guys.
- 48:56SPEAKER_00: We appreciate each and every juicy review.
- 48:59SPEAKER_00: So please keep at it.
- 49:02SPEAKER_00: Um speaking about Rick Moranis, that guy kind of came and went, you know, like he he was uh in every movie in the 80s and 90s, and then he was gone.
- 49:13SPEAKER_00: Um, and that was a personal choice on his part.
- 49:15SPEAKER_00: He chose to leave acting to be with his family, and I respect that.
- 49:20SPEAKER_00: But one thing that I found fascinating about watching this movie was that he's a short dude, he's tiny.
- 49:27SPEAKER_00: Like he's like a half foot shorter than everyone else.
- 49:31SPEAKER_00: Like he's a he's a really small dude.
- 49:33SPEAKER_02: It was not a good time in my life when as a short male myself, I got glasses, and uh immediately my my friends, it was it was about the time you know, honey I shrunk the kids had come out, whatever.
- 49:44SPEAKER_02: So uh it was not great.
- 49:46SPEAKER_02: I got a lot of uh I got a lot of Rick Moran.
- 49:48SPEAKER_02: My name's Rich, you know, he's Rick.
- 49:51SPEAKER_02: I got a lot of comparisons, but I am excited that Rick Moranis is coming back to be Darth Homet in Spaceballs Part 2.
- 50:00SPEAKER_02: So that's gonna be uh fantastic.
- 50:02SPEAKER_02: I I I honestly think he's a great actor.
- 50:04SPEAKER_02: I loved him.
- 50:06SPEAKER_02: You know, he's you know, essentially the same role, but I love him in Honey and I Shrunk the Kids.
- 50:10SPEAKER_02: I love him in this movie and the next, you know, Little Shop of Horrors.
- 50:15SPEAKER_02: I just think he's he's really good at playing the scared Pipsqueak, you know?
- 50:21SPEAKER_02: In the 80s, that was a that was uh an important role in movies, the the scared pipsqueak who showed a little bit of backbone.
- 50:28SPEAKER_00: But as a kid, as a kid watching this, I always felt I I I felt I thought he was an adult, you know, like that that's dark helmet.
- 50:36SPEAKER_00: That guy's you know, like that's a that's uh force to behold.
- 50:40SPEAKER_00: So yeah, it was interesting coming at this as an adult.
- 50:44SPEAKER_00: Um I I I don't think I've seen this as you know in in quite a few years.
- 50:47SPEAKER_00: So like this was uh that was an interesting little tidbit.
- 50:51SPEAKER_00: Gotta say, I love seeing Segorna Weaver in this.
- 50:54SPEAKER_00: She's just she brings such character and poise to her roles.
- 51:02SPEAKER_00: Like she is she has such a like a uh almost like a strict beauty to her.
- 51:07SPEAKER_00: Like it's like a like her jaw is so defined and her face is so symmetrical that it's just like you were meant to be in movies, you know, like and it's it's so cool seeing her on screen.
- 51:18SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 51:18SPEAKER_00: There's something gravitational to her roles that I just I love.
- 51:23SPEAKER_00: And Anthony loves it too.
- 51:24SPEAKER_01: I feel like we've covered a lot of Sigourney Weaver movies.
- 51:27SPEAKER_01: Are we just like a low-key Sigourney Weaver podcast?
- 51:30SPEAKER_00: What are we missing?
- 51:31SPEAKER_00: Like, let's let's kind of go through her.
- 51:36SPEAKER_00: Uh oh, she was in the Defenders show, the the very poorly received critically defenders show.
- 51:44SPEAKER_01: Dude, she was in the Mandalorian of Grogu, and was it we covered that?
- 51:49SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh, dude.
- 51:51SPEAKER_01: Insane.
- 51:52SPEAKER_00: All the aliens, Avatar.
- 51:54SPEAKER_00: We have done all the aliens.
- 51:56SPEAKER_00: We have done Avatar.
- 51:58SPEAKER_00: Um have we done all three avatars at this point?
- 52:00SPEAKER_00: I don't think we have we?
- 52:01SPEAKER_00: No, we might have actually, yeah.
- 52:04SPEAKER_02: Um yeah.
- 52:05SPEAKER_02: This is really uh Sigorny Weavener uh podcast now.
- 52:08SPEAKER_02: Uh there was Project Sigor watch Sigorny?
- 52:13SPEAKER_02: I can't say that name over and over again.
- 52:14SPEAKER_02: So we uh stick to Project Ecology, I think.
- 52:17SPEAKER_00: I I could I could I could say that was tripping you up a little bit there.
- 52:20SPEAKER_00: Sorry, yeah, I can't say that one.
- 52:22SPEAKER_00: Sigorni Weaver.
- 52:23SPEAKER_02: That's why I call her Riley.
- 52:24SPEAKER_02: That's why I call her Riley.
- 52:25SPEAKER_00: That's why.
- 52:26SPEAKER_00: That's why.
- 52:27SPEAKER_00: I have a question actually, Rich.
- 52:29SPEAKER_00: Like, was it always um like a purposeful like choice to call her Riley instead of Ripley?
- 52:35SPEAKER_00: Or was it originally a mistake?
- 52:37SPEAKER_02: I made that legitimate mistake 17 times.
- 52:41SPEAKER_02: Like it was honestly I it had to be like 12 times that I legitimately made the error.
- 52:48SPEAKER_02: Like I just kept doing it, and Anthony was like, it's you know Ripley, you know, like and I I I just couldn't uh I couldn't I don't know why it kept happening, and then now now I just legitimately I I do say that I think a little bit has to do with I know that Ripley is her last name.
- 53:08SPEAKER_02: Okay, but I think like Riley is a girl's name.
- 53:11SPEAKER_02: Uh I don't know.
- 53:12SPEAKER_00: Okay, so it's just it's kind of the way that your mind catalogs names.
- 53:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 53:18SPEAKER_00: Very good, very good.
- 53:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but now now it's a bit.
- 53:20SPEAKER_02: Now like now I just uh but now I also do think that like the clone is Riley and she's Ripley.
- 53:28SPEAKER_02: Like that that's that's headcanon that I'm not gonna let go of.
- 53:32SPEAKER_00: Well, hot damn, hot damn.
- 53:34SPEAKER_00: Um guys, final thoughts on Ghostbusters 1984.
- 53:39SPEAKER_00: Uh Anthony.
- 53:40SPEAKER_01: It's a good time.
- 53:42SPEAKER_01: It was fun going back and jamming to the theme and seeing the giant stay puffed marshmallow guy and uh Slimer.
- 53:54SPEAKER_01: You know, iconic, just an iconic movie all altogether.
- 53:58SPEAKER_01: Like I just feel like it's one of those movies that everybody either knows of or will know of.
- 54:07SPEAKER_01: If you know kids growing up these days, like, you know, we we learned it from our parents and then millennials are passing that on to their kids, so it's uh it's just one of those like I iconic movies that everybody kind of grows up with.
- 54:22SPEAKER_00: I just I love how they go from knowing like having literally no clue how to deal with the ghosts once they actually find them.
- 54:32SPEAKER_00: You know, they they've spent so much time looking for them, this is like their whole thing, and then they find that one in the library, and they're all just kind of debating on like what do we do now that we what do we do?
- 54:43SPEAKER_00: And then, you know, after that, Egon's like, this is what we'll do.
- 54:47SPEAKER_00: We'll just capture them with a a grant from the bank, you know, like that'll you know, like I love that stuff.
- 54:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I yeah, I I do love movies that just fast forward through the how the hell do we get here part, right?
- 55:02SPEAKER_02: Like yes, it's that that actually is enjoyable to me.
- 55:05SPEAKER_02: There's something there's something so 80s about like, nah, we don't gotta explain that, just keep it moving, you know?
- 55:12SPEAKER_00: Like a night.
- 55:13SPEAKER_00: There's no training montage, there's a success montage, you know.
- 55:18SPEAKER_00: And it's amazing.
- 55:19SPEAKER_00: That is that you know, that's where it breaks off from Rocky a little bit, you know.
- 55:22SPEAKER_00: Like there's a success montage in this movie, and I I quite enjoyed it, you know, like all these magazines and stuff are like printing, like, oh, uh this is what the Ghostbusters diet is.
- 55:34SPEAKER_00: This is you know the Ghostbusters save Chinatown.
- 55:38SPEAKER_00: Um so yeah, I I'm with Anthony here.
- 55:42SPEAKER_00: I really enjoy this movie.
- 55:44SPEAKER_00: I I think it's such a fun time.
- 55:46SPEAKER_00: Um and I'm glad we chose it for episode 179.
- 55:51SPEAKER_00: Uh Rich, final thoughts.
- 55:53SPEAKER_02: I'm a huge fan of the franchise.
- 55:54SPEAKER_02: Uh if I I would say that I probably like the next one a little bit more, but I think that's just familiarity and some of the the accents in it.
- 56:03SPEAKER_02: Like there's uh there's a it's Eastern European guy and it's a little bit it's a little zanier, I think.
- 56:10SPEAKER_02: But uh listen, if you haven't seen this movie, I want to ask you one question.
- 56:14SPEAKER_02: You know, what are you afraid of?
- 56:16SPEAKER_02: Because uh I don't think there's any reason to be afraid here, and uh Well, I'm afraid of ghosts, Rich, so I think that's a little unsatisfactory.
- 56:23SPEAKER_02: Oh I'm sorry.
- 56:26SPEAKER_02: Well, if you're not afraid of ghosts, there's then don't be afraid.
- 56:29SPEAKER_02: Just tune into this one because it's fun.
- 56:31SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's a movie from 1984, and my son watched it, he's 11, and he he enjoyed it.
- 56:37SPEAKER_02: Like he didn't feel like oh, this is like so corny, and the the graphics are or whatever the you know, the quote for him, he would say C.
- 56:46SPEAKER_00: Was this your uh was this week's podcast your son's introduction to this movie?
- 56:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he had never seen it before.
- 56:54SPEAKER_02: I had never thought to put it on.
- 56:56SPEAKER_00: From now on, um, I want you to tell us when like we cover something and it's your son's first time watching something.
- 57:03SPEAKER_00: Because as a new parent, I'm just constantly wondering how I'm going to introduce stuff to my kid.
- 57:11SPEAKER_00: And you were, you know, you were talking man.
- 57:14SPEAKER_00: You were talking about uh you were talking about ads, you know, that were like you were bombarded with when you were kidding.
- 57:21SPEAKER_00: We, Anthony and I were bombarded with ads for toys and yogurts and a bunch of like crazy uh cereals that no longer exist um when we were kids on Cartoon Network, on Nickelodeon, whatever it was.
- 57:35SPEAKER_00: And it's gonna be interesting uh seeing how that goes with my kid because I don't really want him, you know, getting advertisements upon advertisements like that.
- 57:48SPEAKER_00: And I don't think he will because we don't really watch cable television anymore.
- 57:53SPEAKER_00: We it's mostly like YouTube or streaming.
- 57:56SPEAKER_00: So I'm curious how he's gonna be advertised to.
- 57:58SPEAKER_00: I'm kind of scared about it at the same time.
- 58:00SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be what it's it's gonna be what shows you pick on like Netflix or whatever, whatever shows he starts streaming, and then you're gonna run out of that one and you're gonna pick you're gonna get you're gonna get to the point where you go, I can't watch this show anymore, and you'll try something new.
- 58:16SPEAKER_02: And like for the first couple of years, that's essentially what he was, you know, it was like what shows were age appropriate that he found interest in that we would not want to pull our hair out of.
- 58:25SPEAKER_00: But we don't have like commercials anymore, like like they're like if you go to a streaming service and you watch something, you're not gonna be bombarded with commercials in between different episodes.
- 58:36SPEAKER_00: So that's what I'm that's what I'm curious about.
- 58:38SPEAKER_00: Like, how is he going to come at the world not wanting you know the latest Hot Wheel track or whatever it is?
- 58:45SPEAKER_00: So yeah, it's it's uh it's a weird science experiment.
- 58:48SPEAKER_00: And um, I'm kind of excited to see how my son fares.
- 58:51SPEAKER_00: Because even like uh if we get into like YouTube kids and stuff, I don't think I I'll I'll definitely like buy the ad-free version so that you know he's not just bombarded with random stuff.
- 59:01SPEAKER_00: But yeah, it's gonna be interesting.
- 59:03SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be it's gonna be weird.
- 59:05SPEAKER_00: Um hopefully he ain't afraid of no ghosts.
- 59:10SPEAKER_02: That would be very upsetting if he if he was, I won't lie to you.
- 59:14SPEAKER_00: Guys, thank you so much for listening to us here for episode 179.
- 59:18SPEAKER_00: Next week, we are covering the devil wears Prada.
- 59:22SPEAKER_00: I just made that up.
- 59:23SPEAKER_00: Um, we can cut that if you want.
- 59:25SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, no, I I I just I was just like, what is the most unlikely thing to say in this instance?
- 59:30SPEAKER_02: I was flap.
- 59:32SPEAKER_02: I was rendered mute.
- 59:34SPEAKER_02: Alright?
- 59:35SPEAKER_02: I was rendered dumb.
- 59:36SPEAKER_02: I I just went, uh Anthony, you got any quick ideas?
- 59:40SPEAKER_02: Anything we want to throw out there?
- 59:42SPEAKER_02: Any gem?
- 59:43SPEAKER_00: Lara Croft 200.
- 59:45SPEAKER_01: No, but that was I did uh I came up with the the last like few, so I don't have anything off the top of my mind.
- 59:52SPEAKER_00: I'm okay with doing a sequel to something.
- 59:55SPEAKER_00: Uh Mortal Kombat 2, you know, the the 90s one.
- 59:59SPEAKER_00: I haven't watched it yet.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_00: Um definitely okay to go directly into Ghostbusters 2.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_00: Or maybe we just skip it and go into the maybe we just skip Ghostbusters 2 and go into the the third one that came out a couple years ago that was much maligned by internet trolls.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_02: If we did three and skip two, I might fight all you guys.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_02: So I I would be down to do two.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_02: I like that one too.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_02: Uh oh, he's gonna fight us.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_00: He's gonna fight us with his blown out back.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_02: Um, anyway.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_02: We'll figure it out, guys.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_00: We'll figure it out.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_00: You'll you'll you'll hear from us for sure.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_00: You shall.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_00: It probably won't be Devil Wars Prada.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_00: Thanks, guys.
