Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Ryan Bridge: Where in the world is Nikhil Ravishankar?
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Where in the world is Nicol Ravashenka. You've got a
- 0:02Speaker 1: feel of it for the New Zealand boss, don't you.
- 0:04Speaker 1: He is in the hot seat and he is sweating.
- 0:07Speaker 1: If ever there was a poison chealice, that guy is
- 0:10Speaker 1: drinking from it. He is glugging it back. He's drowning
- 0:13Speaker 1: in it. Poor thing. They've suspended their guidance after the
- 0:17Speaker 1: avgas price went nuts doubled on Iran. That's after announcing
- 0:21Speaker 1: that loss of sixty million dollars for the half year,
- 0:24Speaker 1: and now they're hiking prices apparently this is according to stuff,
- 0:28Speaker 1: up to ninety dollars on international fares and reportedly reportedly
- 0:33Speaker 1: because they haven't confirmed this yet, looking at cutting some
- 0:36Speaker 1: roots as well, looking at cutting some costs. On top
- 0:39Speaker 1: of that, you've got David Seymour barking loudly about selling
- 0:42Speaker 1: half of you off. His problems and this is the
- 0:45Speaker 1: problem with all the New Zealand bosses are financial. The
- 0:49Speaker 1: implications very political. You know, it is the national Carrier,
- 0:53Speaker 1: after all, it's up there with the PM, it's up
- 0:56Speaker 1: there with the all Blacks coach at NZR in terms
- 1:00Speaker 1: of profile and criticism in New Zealand. But when the
- 1:03Speaker 1: going gets tough, you got to front. If an index
- 1:07Speaker 1: update of the kind that we saw yesterday was put
- 1:09Speaker 1: out by the CEO of a company not half owned
- 1:11Speaker 1: by voters, then you'd probably get away with no public interviews.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Talked to some shareholders, but that is not the case
- 1:16Speaker 1: for Air New Zealand. I spoke to Greg four him
- 1:19Speaker 1: the other day, another Air New Zealand boss who timed
- 1:22Speaker 1: his landing into the job quite terribly COVID and thanked
- 1:27Speaker 1: him at the end. I said thank you for always
- 1:29Speaker 1: because he did. He would always front up to the
- 1:31Speaker 1: public as far as I can remember anyway, never really
- 1:34Speaker 1: felt irked by it, always front up to the public,
- 1:37Speaker 1: always come in for an interview when the going got tough.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Over the years, he made himself very available. Didn't really
- 1:43Speaker 1: matter whether the news was good or bad. And there
- 1:45Speaker 1: was plenty of bad engine issues, prices, COVID travel refunds,
- 1:50Speaker 1: remember all that stuff. So whether it was good or bad,
- 1:53Speaker 1: Greg was generally there, which begs the question, as the
- 1:56Speaker 1: airline faces new headwinds, where in the world is nicol Revashenka.
