- 1:29Speaker 5: That's disappointing.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Wow, Well, foxhol.
- 1:35Speaker 4: On the Twitter Verse the old Twitter machine from Joe
- 1:39Speaker 4: Morgan at j S Morgan forty four, who has a
- 1:43Speaker 4: Southeastern Louisiana Lion as his profile picture.
- 1:47Speaker 5: Shout out to Tayjay, Jake, and Matt.
- 1:50Speaker 4: Have you all ever touched on any personal and funny
- 1:52Speaker 4: baseball high school stories. I've told a story before, the
- 1:58Speaker 4: only real baseball story I happened. And I played freshman
- 2:02Speaker 4: sophomore junior year. I didn't play my senior year because
- 2:05Speaker 4: coach Sabans like pick a sport bud.
- 2:08Speaker 5: But my sophomore year, we're in the playoffs.
- 2:13Speaker 4: We're at home Shreveport of angel Catholic of Baton Rouge
- 2:17Speaker 4: comes to us, and I never, like, I didn't really
- 2:20Speaker 4: know about Catholic. We have played them once moscona senior
- 2:24Speaker 4: year where we sent them home. We only played them once,
- 2:28Speaker 4: but they were a good baseball program for sure. They
- 2:30Speaker 4: had a shortstop that ended up signing with LSU that year.
- 2:32Speaker 4: He's a hell of a high school baseball player. But
- 2:35Speaker 4: we were getting crushed.
- 2:37Speaker 5: I crushed. It's like as a second or third round.
- 2:40Speaker 4: I think it was second round maybe of the playoffs,
- 2:42Speaker 4: and I mean it's like eleven to nothing or twelve
- 2:46Speaker 4: to nothing.
- 2:49Speaker 5: Last inning. If they get us out, we're done. I
- 2:51Speaker 5: come up.
- 2:52Speaker 4: I get a single and I'm on first base, and
- 2:58Speaker 4: I was frustrated by the game. I game didn't play
- 3:00Speaker 4: left field. Didn't like that either, so I decided I
- 3:05Speaker 4: was going to still second.
- 3:08Speaker 5: Still second. Coach is not very happy. He's like, what
- 3:10Speaker 5: are you doing?
- 3:11Speaker 4: I'm like, still second, Like it's like we're down twelve runs,
- 3:14Speaker 4: like your run doesn't really matter. But I'm like now
- 3:17Speaker 4: looking back and I'm like, hey, probably right next fitch
- 3:19Speaker 4: still third, okay, and uh after that, like they hit
- 3:25Speaker 4: like a groundball, I think to the third baseman and
- 3:28Speaker 4: like he didn't want me to go. I'm like, I'm
- 3:30Speaker 4: going score. We got crushed, like ended up being a
- 3:33Speaker 4: lot too little. But our football head coach was at
- 3:41Speaker 4: the game right, and I had played defense. I mean
- 3:44Speaker 4: I played noseguard, right, I played on the D line.
- 3:48Speaker 5: And it's funny.
- 3:49Speaker 4: He's like, uh, like I knew you could, like you know,
- 3:52Speaker 4: move back in like back in the day, misical we
- 3:54Speaker 4: had your running back stuff.
- 3:55Speaker 5: He's like, I know you can move like that.
- 3:57Speaker 4: He's like, I think this spring, which was like that
- 4:00Speaker 4: same time, It's like, I think we want to try
- 4:03Speaker 4: to put you some some running back stuff again. It
- 4:05Speaker 4: was based off him being at the high school playoff game.
- 4:07Speaker 4: We're getting crushed.
- 4:09Speaker 3: I was mad, But say, uh, which grade?
- 4:12Speaker 4: I was a sophomore, going to be going into my
- 4:15Speaker 4: junior year, so sophomore spring.
- 4:17Speaker 3: So you were only when football? You were only playing.
- 4:19Speaker 4: Linebacker in DLA. Yeah, but he was at the games
- 4:23Speaker 4: like hey, and he was an offensive coach. He's like,
- 4:25Speaker 4: they're gonna try some running back stuff.
- 4:29Speaker 6: So how long had you been playing football leading up
- 4:31Speaker 6: to that point? Like padded football?
- 4:34Speaker 5: Oh forever?
- 4:37Speaker 6: Because we start Yeah, we started in seventh grade. That's
- 4:39Speaker 6: when our officials started. But like so forever though, you
- 4:42Speaker 6: didn't start playing running back till sophomore year.
- 4:44Speaker 4: No, so like growing up youth football, I played running back, okay, Like,
- 4:49Speaker 4: and when I got to evangel I was it was
- 4:51Speaker 4: more like projected to be a linebacker because we didn't
- 4:54Speaker 4: run the ball.
- 4:55Speaker 5: We were five wide. We're opening up. That was the offense.
- 4:58Speaker 4: We didn't even have a running back really, but you know,
- 5:01Speaker 4: we're gonna have some new stuff. My actual, my father
- 5:03Speaker 4: in law was going to be the offensive coordinator and
- 5:06Speaker 4: he was going to run more of like a pro
- 5:07Speaker 4: style offense, and so we were gonna make the switch,
- 5:10Speaker 4: and so based off me being dumb and stealing in
- 5:13Speaker 4: a game that I should never have been doing, that
- 5:15Speaker 4: really kind of started the process of me kind of
- 5:18Speaker 4: playing both ways. And then eventually finally we played Longview
- 5:22Speaker 4: first game of the year that year, and it was
- 5:25Speaker 4: like a special package situation, like running back, but it's
- 5:30Speaker 4: hotter than hot as you can. You know, East Texas
- 5:33Speaker 4: first game of the year, we're in Longview. We had
- 5:37Speaker 4: like three guys go down with cramps PREMI high, pre
- 5:40Speaker 4: my high days.
- 5:42Speaker 5: That PDA light.
- 5:42Speaker 4: Didn't work as ish and so they're like, okay, cool Hester,
- 5:47Speaker 4: get back there and we're going to direct snap you
- 5:48Speaker 4: the football and run zone.
- 5:51Speaker 5: They did it.
- 5:51Speaker 4: I ran for like two to twenty that day and
- 5:55Speaker 4: they never moved back, just because of a high school
- 5:58Speaker 4: baseball game where the co was there and I sold
- 6:00Speaker 4: a couple of a couple of bases.
- 6:05Speaker 5: You high school baseball.
- 6:06Speaker 3: I'm just thinking about that story. It's incredible.
- 6:09Speaker 6: So if it wasn't for that baseball game, you would
- 6:11Speaker 6: have kept on playing defense. I'm sure it would have
- 6:14Speaker 6: come to light eventually. I mean, I can move a
- 6:17Speaker 6: little bit, but that's awesome, you know.
- 6:19Speaker 4: I don't know, I just I think that that baseball
- 6:21Speaker 4: game was big for me. But if it doesn't happen,
- 6:24Speaker 4: I'm probably playing linebacker in the group of five.
- 6:28Speaker 3: You might have just stuck with Texas at that point.
- 6:31Speaker 4: I wouldn't Texas. Texas was running back days no or not.
- 6:35Speaker 4: There not have been a Texas offer either. If I
- 6:36Speaker 4: was playing linebacker, it.
- 6:37Speaker 5: Would have been.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Uh.
- 6:39Speaker 4: It'd been probably a two lane Greenway situation. Me and
- 6:43Speaker 4: Blake Baker right there in the middle of that defense
- 6:44Speaker 4: holding it down.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 6:47Speaker 6: Uh. So I didn't play baseball in high school. Leading
- 6:50Speaker 6: up to that point, baseball is all I did. I
- 6:52Speaker 6: didn't start playing football like tackle football. I mean I
- 6:55Speaker 6: did one like pee wee year in third grade, but
- 6:57Speaker 6: I didn't really start playing until seventh grade.
- 6:59Speaker 3: So I was baseball guy. I loved over played played.
- 7:02Speaker 6: This is like when people actually played like old school,
- 7:04Speaker 6: like in the Little League instead of travel ball. But
- 7:07Speaker 6: we traveled in this fall sometimes. But that was my
- 7:10Speaker 6: sport man all up until eighth grade. Was my last
- 7:15Speaker 6: year to play baseball because at the time I was
- 7:20Speaker 6: a quarterback in eighth grade for my team. We were
- 7:22Speaker 6: going into high school and so there's a big high school,
- 7:24Speaker 6: big five A, big school five A. So there's a
- 7:27Speaker 6: you know, there's varsity, JV, and then there's freshmen. They
- 7:30Speaker 6: had three different teams and so I was like the
- 7:33Speaker 6: first person they ever asked to as a freshmanvie on
- 7:37Speaker 6: the JV team. And so I was like, all right,
- 7:40Speaker 6: I'm giving up everything. I got shot at this thing.
- 7:42Speaker 6: And so the guy that I was competing Glance, he
- 7:44Speaker 6: was a freshman quarterback. And anyway, long story, I chose
- 7:47Speaker 6: football because I was kind of burned out on baseball.
- 7:49Speaker 6: So I did it so much and football was new
- 7:51Speaker 6: and fresh to me.
- 7:52Speaker 3: But I do have this. I can't remember if I was.
- 7:54Speaker 6: Fifth or sixth grade, but I think y'all know my
- 7:59Speaker 6: family was I grew a Baylor Bear fan. My dad
- 8:01Speaker 6: played quarterback there, my siblings, my siblings were that I
- 8:04Speaker 6: grew up going to every Bailey Big Chip and Joanne
- 8:06Speaker 6: guy big Chip and Joeanne. Oh this is pre Chip
- 8:09Speaker 6: and Joanne. So this is like the real deal Baylor
- 8:12Speaker 6: Bear fan here. I would go to like the old
- 8:14Speaker 6: old Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco for every home game
- 8:17Speaker 6: through the tailgate.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Like loved Baylor growing up.
- 8:19Speaker 6: So my dad was really involved with like the alumni
- 8:22Speaker 6: they had like in East Texas Alumni Association, like the
- 8:25Speaker 6: Euster Club all that stuff. So we were always really involved.
- 8:28Speaker 6: I always got to go into the locker room to
- 8:29Speaker 6: do different really like cool things for kids to be.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Able to go do and see that other people didn't
- 8:35Speaker 3: get to do.
- 8:36Speaker 6: But my dad became really good friends with an assistant
- 8:39Speaker 6: coaching I think he was the running backs coach at
- 8:40Speaker 6: the time, Trooper Taylor.
- 8:42Speaker 3: I don't know if you ever ran into it. You're
- 8:43Speaker 3: awesome dude. So he was.
- 8:46Speaker 6: He was either there for like an alumni golf tournament
- 8:49Speaker 6: or recruiting. Anyway, he was in town, and so him
- 8:52Speaker 6: and my dad were hanging out. I had a game
- 8:55Speaker 6: that night, and I loved Trooper. He was like high energy,
- 8:59Speaker 6: he was like he would play like he was just
- 9:01Speaker 6: a good dude man. And so I'm going to the
- 9:05Speaker 6: game and I'm talking to Trooper at the house and
- 9:07Speaker 6: he's like, Hey, tell you what, give you fifty bucks
- 9:10Speaker 6: if you throw a perfect game. Because I was pitching
- 9:12Speaker 6: that day, I was like, all right, cool, that's fun. Yeah,
- 9:17Speaker 6: eighteen up, eighteen down. He sit him down, perfect game,
- 9:22Speaker 6: and uh he.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Didn't pay me. Oh what I got stud up. Troop
- 9:29Speaker 3: didn't pay you, Troop, you didn't pay me. Wow, Let's
- 9:32Speaker 3: fast forward to junior year of high school.
- 9:35Speaker 5: He's at A and M.
- 9:35Speaker 3: By the way, is he he.
- 9:37Speaker 5: Is at A and M.
- 9:38Speaker 3: So still fighting the good fight.
- 9:40Speaker 5: So let's at fifty bucks.
- 9:42Speaker 4: He better get ready because this year, when the Tigers
- 9:45Speaker 4: take on the Aggies pre game, I'm going straight to
- 9:50Speaker 4: him and telling him, he owes Matt Flan fifty bucks.
- 9:52Speaker 6: Well, we gotta let's finish the story. We're going to
- 9:55Speaker 6: fast forward to junior I think I was junior year
- 9:58Speaker 6: of high school. I think Trooper at two Lane.
- 10:02Speaker 5: Yeah, he was there from nineteen ninety nine to two
- 10:04Speaker 5: thousand and three.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Yep, so he was. He was at two Lane recruiting me.
- 10:08Speaker 3: So he comes in.
- 10:09Speaker 6: He came in, I believe he was with a coach
- 10:11Speaker 6: from Georgia Tech. We go out to we have this,
- 10:14Speaker 6: like you know, past relationship. I'm like, true, I don't
- 10:18Speaker 6: know if you remember this, but you told me when
- 10:20Speaker 6: I was like twelve through a perfect game, you give
- 10:23Speaker 6: me fifty bucks. Yeah, never paid up. He was like,
- 10:27Speaker 6: I know. They took a fifty out of his pocket,
- 10:31Speaker 6: set it on the table.
- 10:32Speaker 5: So he didn't hand it to you, So there's no
- 10:34Speaker 5: recruiting violation.
- 10:35Speaker 3: There wasn't a recruiting violation because he owed that to me.
- 10:38Speaker 5: He just he dropped fifty dollars out of his wallet.
- 10:41Speaker 3: That was to be.
- 10:42Speaker 6: That was out of an abundance of precaution. He did
- 10:45Speaker 6: it that way because he owed me that money. There,
- 10:48Speaker 6: we had a deal in play. We had a gentleman's deal.
- 10:52Speaker 6: Eighteen up, sit him down.
- 10:55Speaker 3: See you.
- 10:57Speaker 6: Paul Skeen's esque out there throwing circles, change ups, two seams,
- 11:01Speaker 6: four seams.
- 11:02Speaker 3: That's it.
- 11:03Speaker 4: I cannot Yeah, I cannot believe you had a recruiting
- 11:07Speaker 4: violation from two lane.
- 11:08Speaker 5: You didn't report it. Back in the day US.
- 11:13Speaker 4: One seventeen, Jake and Matt I played little league with
- 11:16Speaker 4: Will Arnold. I was at second base and he was
- 11:18Speaker 4: at first. The biggest and easiest target to ever throw at.
- 11:22Speaker 4: Will could mash a baseball. That's no surprising there. I
- 11:26Speaker 4: bet that bat looked like a god dang toothpick in
- 11:30Speaker 4: his hand.
- 11:31Speaker 6: My god, you imagine squeezing that bat, metal bat and
- 11:35Speaker 6: it comes out with like finger intentions on it. Yeah,
- 11:39Speaker 6: as a strong human being, I wonder if he could
- 11:41Speaker 6: scoop it first, how the hands were.
- 11:45Speaker 4: Pretty good badaceous let us know, and it's okay, we
- 11:48Speaker 4: won't tell Will about it. You don't have to be worried.
- 11:51Speaker 4: Could he scoop it first? It's going to chop it
- 11:55Speaker 4: up about the old baseball stories at football sometimes favorite
- 12:03Speaker 4: softball story.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Wait, were we talking like just in general or like
- 12:08Speaker 2: an embarrassing one.
- 12:09Speaker 5: Or whatever you want to do?
- 12:13Speaker 2: Okay, So the first game, the first high school, well, okay, anyway,
- 12:20Speaker 2: the first high school that I went to because I
- 12:21Speaker 2: have so many, but we weren't the team was. We
- 12:25Speaker 2: made it to like the first round of playoffs or whatever.
- 12:28Speaker 2: And then the new high school that I went to,
- 12:30Speaker 2: it was an actual, like real good to so yeah,
- 12:34Speaker 2: and we made it to the third round and that
- 12:37Speaker 2: was at the time like the best moment of my life.
- 12:41Speaker 2: And I think it was by is district by district,
- 12:45Speaker 2: so whatever comes after that, I forget what it was.
- 12:48Speaker 2: So we made it to that and then we got
- 12:50Speaker 2: beat by I think it was Smithson Valley that beat us,
- 12:54Speaker 2: and then that was fun. But one that is kind
- 12:58Speaker 2: of like, I guess embarrassing. I don't really know. I've
- 13:00Speaker 2: definitely pulled a Jake Brown steiling second before where I
- 13:03Speaker 2: like slip, and luckily it was like a head first slip,
- 13:06Speaker 2: so I kind of dove into the bag, played it
- 13:08Speaker 2: off real smooth. But one time I was warming up
- 13:12Speaker 2: one of our pictures and I didn't have like the
- 13:17Speaker 2: gear on because I was like, nah, I'm good, like
- 13:19Speaker 2: I don't need the gear. We have like a drop
- 13:22Speaker 2: ball in softball, which is basically like an off speed
- 13:25Speaker 2: pitch or whatever. Hers dropped a little too much, had
- 13:28Speaker 2: to pick it. When I went to pick it, it
- 13:30Speaker 2: like like popped up, hit me in the head and
- 13:33Speaker 2: cracked my eyebrow open and I had to get six stitches.
- 13:36Speaker 2: I still have the scar right here, but I remember
- 13:39Speaker 2: my coach was like, oh, yeah, she's bleeding, and I
- 13:41Speaker 2: thought my eye was bleeding. So I started freaking out
- 13:44Speaker 2: because I thought like blood was coming out my actual eye,
- 13:47Speaker 2: but it was and then I looked in the mirror
- 13:48Speaker 2: and it was my eyebrow and I was like, oh,
- 13:49Speaker 2: I'm good, like it's fine, and then yeah, I don't know,
- 13:55Speaker 2: just a lot of good times playing, but I was
- 13:57Speaker 2: over it by the time I got to college, and
- 13:59Speaker 2: I get any like D one big school offers, so
- 14:03Speaker 2: and I wanted to go to a big school, so
- 14:04Speaker 2: I was just done after that.
- 14:06Speaker 4: Yeah, and when you know, you certainly know at any
- 14:09Speaker 4: baseball stories.
- 14:10Speaker 7: Yes, sixth grade, I ran track for my school, but
- 14:15Speaker 7: our junior high didn't have a baseball team, so we
- 14:18Speaker 7: just played like you know, rec league whatever it was,
- 14:22Speaker 7: junior high ball. And had a track meet at Saint
- 14:25Speaker 7: Thomas Aquanas out there in Hammond in sixth grade. It
- 14:29Speaker 7: was big because they're like, oh, you get to run
- 14:30Speaker 7: on the eighth grade track team. I'm like, all right, cool,
- 14:32Speaker 7: like first meet of the year. Well, we also had
- 14:35Speaker 7: a like a beginning of the season tournament like for baseball,
- 14:39Speaker 7: so it was kind of like you know, a pre
- 14:40Speaker 7: one in the regular tournament, in your postseason tournament, and
- 14:44Speaker 7: I forgot that they had overlapped. Luckily left my bat
- 14:47Speaker 7: bag in my mom's vehicle. Ran the track meet at Hammond,
- 14:51Speaker 7: had to speed over got there this is championship game
- 14:55Speaker 7: of like the preseason tournament, got there right before the
- 14:58Speaker 7: game started, made it in time.
- 14:59Speaker 8: Don won the game, but uh, kind of kind of close.
- 15:02Speaker 5: Did you have to hit in your track uniform?
- 15:04Speaker 8: No, I had the uniform I had with me. I
- 15:07Speaker 8: didn't I don't have to hit That should.
- 15:08Speaker 5: Be pretty funny.
- 15:10Speaker 3: Uh.

- 17:17Speaker 4: Michael Johnson, answer your monkey's questions.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Get ready to tantalize your taste buds and leave this
- 17:24Speaker 1: segment hungry. This is Monkey's with executive Chef Michael Johnson.
- 17:32Speaker 5: Chef, how are we doing, brother? How we living?
- 17:34Speaker 10: I'm wonderful man, Chris Jackson says, to tell both of
- 17:37Speaker 10: you guys, hello.
- 17:37Speaker 5: Oh shout out.
- 17:38Speaker 4: Chris Jackson was telling Chris Jackson stories the other day
- 17:41Speaker 4: on the radio where he would have to shed his
- 17:44Speaker 4: football uniform and leave a trail of it behind as
- 17:47Speaker 4: he ran across the street to the old Alick Box
- 17:49Speaker 4: Stadium to go play third base for the Tigers.
- 17:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 17:53Speaker 3: Chris Jackson.
- 17:53Speaker 10: We have respect for that blueberries, that's right. Yeah, we
- 17:56Speaker 10: buy blueberry from him and his wife. They've got a
- 17:59Speaker 10: little blue very orchard. I don't I don't know if
- 18:01Speaker 10: he called an orchard or what you call a blueberry patch.
- 18:03Speaker 5: But well if you don't know, held on, no chef, They've.
- 18:07Speaker 10: Got some good blueberries, that's for sure.
- 18:10Speaker 5: I love that great athlete.
- 18:12Speaker 4: Hash And I'll say that about kickers punters very often,
- 18:14Speaker 4: but it's very true Jacks and no question about it.
- 18:18Speaker 5: Hashtag munchies.
- 18:19Speaker 4: If chef could be on one cooking competition show, which
- 18:23Speaker 4: one would he want.
- 18:24Speaker 3: To be on?
- 18:25Speaker 10: It would have to be Iron Chef Man. It's the
- 18:29Speaker 10: one that I had the most respect for. Like I
- 18:33Speaker 10: I don't know, there's there's one episode that has always
- 18:35Speaker 10: stuck out of my mind, and Bobby's play jumped up
- 18:38Speaker 10: on the on the I think he was he was
- 18:41Speaker 10: going up against the Japanese chef and he jumped up
- 18:44Speaker 10: on his cutting board and was celebrating, and the Japanese
- 18:49Speaker 10: chef shamed him for jumping on the cutting board because
- 18:52Speaker 10: the cutting board is a sacred surface where we prepare
- 18:56Speaker 10: our food and nobody should ever ever you know, tread
- 19:00Speaker 10: on that sacred ground, and it's just one of those
- 19:03Speaker 10: things like he took the high road, he you know,
- 19:06Speaker 10: and I love that about it.
- 19:08Speaker 3: You know.
- 19:08Speaker 10: It's the Japanese Chef was all those chefs honestly, the
- 19:12Speaker 10: ones that you battled against were kind of humble guys.
- 19:15Speaker 10: They you know, like, I don't know that for me
- 19:18Speaker 10: to win against or to compete against that level of chef,
- 19:22Speaker 10: I think it is h I don't know, it's it's
- 19:26Speaker 10: more romantic if you will, you know, like, yeah.
- 19:30Speaker 3: Chef, I kid you not. When I was in middle school,
- 19:32Speaker 3: this was before like the.
- 19:33Speaker 6: Food Network got popular popular kind of like in the
- 19:37Speaker 6: like the mid two thousands when it got popular.
- 19:39Speaker 3: This was like late nineties.
- 19:40Speaker 6: I used to watch the grainy like old school Iron Chef. Yeah,
- 19:46Speaker 6: the Japanese version of it was like dubbed over and
- 19:49Speaker 6: with the with the American yeah, you know, the English,
- 19:52Speaker 6: and one episode stuck out to me where the secret
- 19:54Speaker 6: ingredient was shark.
- 19:55Speaker 3: Then I was like, oh my.
- 19:57Speaker 6: God, this is incredible, Like middle school, seven grade me
- 20:00Speaker 6: watching Iron Chef.
- 20:02Speaker 10: So you guys, probably neither one will remember this show,
- 20:05Speaker 10: but my you know, when I was a kid and
- 20:07Speaker 10: this is in you know, like late seventies, maybe seventy
- 20:11Speaker 10: nine eighty, so that's how old I am. They used
- 20:16Speaker 10: to have this show on called Yan Can Cook. And
- 20:21Speaker 10: I remember you have to google it because it's not
- 20:23Speaker 10: you know, like you have to find it on YouTube.
- 20:25Speaker 10: I think, but Yan can't cook. This guy he would
- 20:29Speaker 10: wield a cleaver without looking at his food, and he
- 20:33Speaker 10: could like and it was one of those things where I,
- 20:36Speaker 10: as a child, I was like, oh my god, this
- 20:38Speaker 10: is incredible. So as a young chef, I decided, you know,
- 20:41Speaker 10: this is something that I want to figure out how
- 20:43Speaker 10: to do. And you know now where I am, and
- 20:46Speaker 10: even even like in the nineties when I was coming
- 20:48Speaker 10: up and I kind of hit being a chef before
- 20:51Speaker 10: the wave of Food Network hit. So I hit the
- 20:54Speaker 10: professional kitchen at a good time because I had experienced
- 20:58Speaker 10: before the commune he started getting flooded with you know,
- 21:02Speaker 10: all these kids that wanted to be chefs, not understanding
- 21:05Speaker 10: what it really meant.
- 21:06Speaker 5: And so.
- 21:08Speaker 10: Yeah, Yan Can Cook. I took from that, you know,
- 21:12Speaker 10: I learned how to cut with my eyes closed. That
- 21:14Speaker 10: it really is about. Feel kind of like those Jean
- 21:17Speaker 10: Claude Maan Damn movies where you close your eyes. Yeah,
- 21:20Speaker 10: hell yeah, you let the force of the spirit move
- 21:23Speaker 10: your knife.
- 21:23Speaker 5: Yeah, let's go love that. Any kind of John clauw,
- 21:27Speaker 5: Jean Claus.
- 21:28Speaker 3: John Clyde references are welcome on this show.
- 21:31Speaker 5: Absolutely, they are all right.
- 21:34Speaker 4: So Chef, we had on Jay Johnson earlier and he
- 21:38Speaker 4: said the team at four o'clock today was going to Flemmings.
- 21:41Speaker 5: They were going to enjoy his steak dinner.
- 21:43Speaker 4: And then he goes, well, the players are I'm going
- 21:45Speaker 4: to actually be in here watching the little coastal Caroline.
- 21:47Speaker 4: He's like, I hope Barrt Jones brings me a little
- 21:49Speaker 4: doggie bag back to the hotel. So we thought, okay, well,
- 21:53Speaker 4: we're gonna send him something like we're going to find out,
- 21:56Speaker 4: you know, through the proper channels where to get it
- 21:59Speaker 4: to him, but we're gonna send him something. So should
- 22:02Speaker 4: we send him something like the team is eating? Should
- 22:06Speaker 4: we send him Flemmings, like a nice steak and potato
- 22:09Speaker 4: and salad?
- 22:10Speaker 5: Like that feels like the right move, right absolutely?
- 22:13Speaker 10: And I Jay's an eater, you know what I mean,
- 22:16Speaker 10: Like he's he's a very you know when he comes
- 22:19Speaker 10: to eating. I think he and the team as well,
- 22:21Speaker 10: like they're simple eaters, you know, like they just like
- 22:23Speaker 10: steak and potatoes, nothing too fancy. I mean they really
- 22:26Speaker 10: are that way. It's protein and carbs and such and
- 22:29Speaker 10: so and and I mean Flemmings does a good job.
- 22:32Speaker 10: I actually was a chef at the Flemings for quite
- 22:34Speaker 10: a while here here in Baton Rouge, back in the day.
- 22:37Speaker 10: Actually when when Hurricane Katrina hit, I worked at Flemings. Yeah, yeah,
- 22:45Speaker 10: I'm sure I did.
- 22:46Speaker 4: Now now, chef I was definitely bawling on a budget.
- 22:51Speaker 4: I would get the chicken. I wouldn't get the steak.
- 22:54Speaker 4: You boy couldn't.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Though.
- 22:57Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, we did a good job. I meant that.
- 23:00Speaker 10: I mean I was the grill guy back then. I mean,
- 23:02Speaker 10: if you eat the steak of that plimbing or the
- 23:04Speaker 10: chicken for that matter, I was the guy that's cooking.
- 23:07Speaker 6: How about that scheffer Gett asked in the chat here,
- 23:10Speaker 6: have you ever cooked on or do you cook on
- 23:13Speaker 6: a flat top grill? It's it's kind of popular right now,
- 23:15Speaker 6: the Blackstone flattops, which kind of like sparred. A question
- 23:19Speaker 6: to me, I'm thinking about getting a new grill, and
- 23:22Speaker 6: I'm like, man, the flattop seems kind of sexy right now,
- 23:25Speaker 6: it's kind of versatile.
- 23:27Speaker 3: What's your experience with that?
- 23:28Speaker 6: What would you recommend to a homeowner as far as
- 23:31Speaker 6: like a regular standard gas grill.
- 23:36Speaker 3: Or a flat top.
- 23:37Speaker 10: Well, I like gas because he heats up quickly, but
- 23:40Speaker 10: blackstones are gas. And I love the versatility of having
- 23:44Speaker 10: a flat top. Like you can saute vegetables, you can
- 23:47Speaker 10: cook fish, you can cook a burger. I mean that
- 23:50Speaker 10: you can cook case it is, you can roll a
- 23:52Speaker 10: hot dog on it. I mean, you can do so
- 23:54Speaker 10: much more with a flat grill than you can just
- 23:57Speaker 10: about anything else. I mean it it is buying are
- 24:00Speaker 10: the most versatile piece of cooking equipment in the kitchen. Now,
- 24:03Speaker 10: you're not going to get the grill marks right, But
- 24:05Speaker 10: what you can do is you can get a blackstone
- 24:07Speaker 10: to put on top of your grill, or even a
- 24:10Speaker 10: piece of metal, you know, if that's your thing. But
- 24:14Speaker 10: I am a fan of blackstones. I think that they're
- 24:17Speaker 10: I think that they're great. And if I mean, if
- 24:21Speaker 10: you're going super fancy, you can, you know, get a
- 24:24Speaker 10: commercial grade griddle. But I don't you know, like blackstones
- 24:29Speaker 10: fit the bill. They do it very.
- 24:31Speaker 5: Well, do y'all know? Ben McDonald's choice there flat top.
- 24:38Speaker 6: Oh yeah, ooh, nice one.
- 24:44Speaker 5: I'm just saying I was going to go with the
- 24:46Speaker 5: flat top.
- 24:47Speaker 6: Chef, Have you ever made an onion volcano on a
- 24:50Speaker 6: flat top before?
- 24:51Speaker 10: I have not not quite as fancy as any of
- 24:54Speaker 10: the sushi chefs that that do. You know, like I
- 24:57Speaker 10: can't throw the egg up in the air and land
- 24:58Speaker 10: it in my hat. That's that's going to go awry.
- 25:01Speaker 10: But yeah, I've made anything. They'll catch on fire too,
- 25:05Speaker 10: you know, like you put the alcohol in there and
- 25:07Speaker 10: let it blow, and you know, like I'm knives and
- 25:09Speaker 10: fire I thing.
- 25:10Speaker 4: Man, you know, chef, I'm assuming this is with a
- 25:13Speaker 4: coastal Carolina thought process. The best way to prepare a fancy.
- 25:18Speaker 10: Rooster blowing a little bit.
- 25:26Speaker 5: Fancy rooster. That's that's that's really really good, all right.
- 25:33Speaker 4: The chat's also uh wanting to know, So Alandra is
- 25:38Speaker 4: about to go on a long road trip to oh
- 25:41Speaker 4: my ball, all right, about to get in a car
- 25:44Speaker 4: head up that way? What should the snacks be on
- 25:48Speaker 4: said road trip to make sure that she's doing it
- 25:50Speaker 4: the right way?
- 25:52Speaker 10: Cool man, you guys, I'm gonna be judged by everyone
- 25:55Speaker 10: here right now. But beef tricky is my roadsnack right
- 25:59Speaker 10: like it go yeah, And and I'm kind of a
- 26:03Speaker 10: ruffles guy on the road. I don't know why, but okay,
- 26:08Speaker 10: some somehow I always end up with like sour cream
- 26:11Speaker 10: and onion or or like triple cheddars bag of ruffles.
- 26:16Speaker 10: And and because when I drive, man, I mean I'm
- 26:19Speaker 10: I stopped for some of those guys. It's like, no,
- 26:22Speaker 10: we're not stopping food.
- 26:23Speaker 5: Kids.
- 26:25Speaker 10: We stop for food when we stop for fuel, and
- 26:26Speaker 10: that's still five hours away. So when I stopped for fuel,
- 26:30Speaker 10: I send the kids into the gas station to get
- 26:33Speaker 10: you know, like snacks. So it's ruffles or pringles, uh,
- 26:37Speaker 10: you know, a Coca Cola to to keep the energy up.
- 26:40Speaker 10: I can't do Red Bull anymore because you know, like
- 26:43Speaker 10: then I'm gonna be the one that's that's blinding into
- 26:45Speaker 10: in two hours that I have to you know, pull
- 26:46Speaker 10: over and go peece. So it's my my my performance
- 26:53Speaker 10: nutrition chef goes solid out the window. Uh and and
- 26:57Speaker 10: you know you throw you throw the the that it
- 27:00Speaker 10: completely to the wind and you got to go with
- 27:02Speaker 10: what works. And I think beef jerkey, ruffles and a
- 27:05Speaker 10: Coca Colas is my my my.
- 27:07Speaker 3: Go to Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do
- 27:09Speaker 3: on a road trip. It's surviving. Oh, get us out
- 27:11Speaker 3: there to get there, man, throw a.
- 27:13Speaker 6: Little short like a short can of French onion dip too.
- 27:16Speaker 6: That's got the little silver top you got to peel back. Yes,
- 27:19Speaker 6: that's pretty elite as well.
- 27:20Speaker 4: Wait, so fringe onion yep, yep in the car while
- 27:25Speaker 4: you're doing it.
- 27:25Speaker 5: Yeah, well done.
- 27:26Speaker 6: You've got if you got a nice little nice console
- 27:28Speaker 6: in the middle next to you.
- 27:29Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's pretty late.
- 27:32Speaker 10: When I moved, when I moved to Seattle. So I'm
- 27:36Speaker 10: literally my my dad is in a twenty six foot
- 27:39Speaker 10: box truck pulling my wife's ex wife's vehicle behind it.
- 27:42Speaker 10: I'm in my pickup, it's extended cab Chevy with my kids,
- 27:47Speaker 10: my ex at you know wife at the time, all
- 27:50Speaker 10: three of my kids in the back seat, and we
- 27:52Speaker 10: made the mistake of stopping at this truck stop and
- 27:54Speaker 10: I bought the kid's pizza. One of them was like,
- 27:57Speaker 10: oh no, this doesn't smell it and slung an off
- 27:59Speaker 10: the window. The oldest, you know, like was starving, and
- 28:04Speaker 10: so she jammed it down and I mean this is
- 28:08Speaker 10: I mean, this is I'm not exaggerating whatsoever. Within thirty minutes,
- 28:13Speaker 10: she created what can only be called pink mysts and
- 28:19Speaker 10: viewed this pizza into the back of my feet and
- 28:23Speaker 10: my head. Uh So it was such volume and like
- 28:28Speaker 10: pressure that there was a silhouette of my head on
- 28:32Speaker 10: the windshield. No right, and so.
- 28:39Speaker 5: Went on.
- 28:40Speaker 10: It was like negative twenty degree out in Nebraska.
- 28:42Speaker 3: We were in.
- 28:43Speaker 10: We were in and so you know, like we're trying
- 28:46Speaker 10: to clean up the truck and it's freezing and you know,
- 28:50Speaker 10: like the wind is blowing and my dad is driving
- 28:53Speaker 10: the truck behind us, asking what the hell's going on.
- 28:55Speaker 10: It was. It was a snap foo and that's the
- 28:57Speaker 10: only way you can describe it. So we get cleaned up,
- 29:00Speaker 10: we get on the road, and day two we stayed
- 29:03Speaker 10: in Wyoming and the truck had the heater running, and
- 29:11Speaker 10: you know, somewhere midday and everything started warming up and
- 29:14Speaker 10: you started smelling the smell again. My ex wife reached
- 29:19Speaker 10: down the crack of her seat to like feel as
- 29:21Speaker 10: something was down there. When she withdrew her hands from
- 29:24Speaker 10: said crack, it was it was all covered again, and
- 29:28Speaker 10: so you know, like dust, Oh yeah, it was. It
- 29:30Speaker 10: was a chain reaction. Too, like there was there was
- 29:33Speaker 10: several bodies in the truck that we screamed across the
- 29:36Speaker 10: highway into the ditch, and like there was two or
- 29:39Speaker 10: three people in the ditch, Yeah, evacuating. Asking that question,
- 29:48Speaker 10: whatever you do on your road trip, I would steer clear.
- 29:51Speaker 5: Of pizza, Yeah, I would not.
- 29:53Speaker 4: Pink dust is never something that I want to think
- 29:56Speaker 4: about ever ever. Again, Chef, we appreciate it.
- 30:00Speaker 5: You're the man.
- 30:01Speaker 4: We look forward to it every single week. We'll catch
- 30:03Speaker 4: up again with you next week and tell Christian I said, hello.
- 30:06Speaker 10: I sure will. Thanks.
- 30:07Speaker 5: Are there your.
- 30:08Speaker 4: Chef Michael Johnson answering your munchies questions?
- 30:12Speaker 5: And I wish I would not have asked that.
- 30:13Speaker 6: Man, we've all been there with kids though. Good lord,
- 30:16Speaker 6: you hear the jack style most time. Most of the
- 30:20Speaker 6: time during that segment, we leave it hungry. Yeah this
- 30:23Speaker 6: time not today.
- 30:24Speaker 3: Not.
- 30:26Speaker 4: I mean, he had me like ruffles and I was like, okay,
- 30:28Speaker 4: Like I don't have ruffles very often.
- 30:30Speaker 5: I don't eat potato chips like that.
- 30:31Speaker 4: But like you brought in the French onion dip, I'm like,
- 30:34Speaker 4: that seems like a lot of work, but if it's
- 30:36Speaker 4: you know, doable, like I could get behind. Certainly, if
- 30:39Speaker 4: you're a passenger princess, you can get that done.
- 30:42Speaker 3: Like if they can too.
- 30:44Speaker 6: It'll depending on the configuration of your cup holder situation.
- 30:48Speaker 3: Sometimes they have like that.
- 30:49Speaker 5: That's real fat. By the way that you've done this.
- 30:53Speaker 6: I mean, man's got to do it. It's it's survival
- 30:55Speaker 6: out there on the road trip. Gotta survive.
- 30:58Speaker 4: Usually go with coffee and a beef jerky. You're going
- 31:01Speaker 4: with French onion dip and ruffles.
- 31:02Speaker 6: I appreciate that, must it's it's a luxury. I'm not
- 31:05Speaker 6: going to say it happens every time. Most of the time.
- 31:08Speaker 6: Like my wife's in the passers scene and she kind
- 31:10Speaker 6: of holds it, you know, I get a little skippeted.
- 31:12Speaker 4: Oh wow, now you got Lacey having to hold your frinch.
- 31:15Speaker 4: We're both after wow, Lacey, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
- 31:19Speaker 5: You gotta do that.
- 31:20Speaker 2: I'm for sure going beef jerky like that is my
- 31:23Speaker 2: road trip.
- 31:23Speaker 4: All versions of beef yeah, not real bias.
- 31:27Speaker 6: Like ask has inflation hit anything as hard as beef jerky.
- 31:31Speaker 4: Milk and eggs from boy, But beef jerky is something
- 31:35Speaker 4: the boys like it as well.
- 31:36Speaker 3: Oh my god, you know a lot of that.
- 31:40Speaker 7: So the gas station, it's like twelve dollars for a
- 31:43Speaker 7: small bag and you get like five pieces of That's
- 31:46Speaker 7: what I'm saying. In the bags like get like a
- 31:50Speaker 7: few pieces.
- 31:50Speaker 6: You get like you get more of the little moisture
- 31:53Speaker 6: bag bags in there than you do the beef jerkey moisture.
- 31:57Speaker 4: So like, you know, you're getting old whenever you complain
- 32:00Speaker 4: about stuff like that, But we do. Like yesterday, you
- 32:03Speaker 4: know the Quest chips to Pocka.
- 32:07Speaker 5: They're really good carbs.
- 32:08Speaker 8: Yeah yeah, rotein taco right.
- 32:11Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, high protein. Yeah, So.
- 32:14Speaker 4: Making a like a homemade taco salad was gonna crunch
- 32:17Speaker 4: them up in the taco salad. I opened the bag
- 32:19Speaker 4: and I swear to God, up the bag eighty percent air,
- 32:23Speaker 4: twenty percent chip, and I just started complaining to myself.
- 32:26Speaker 5: Nobody was in the room. I'm like, how can you
- 32:28Speaker 5: do this as a company? How can you sell this?
- 32:31Speaker 4: How can you put this on the shelf? There's eighty
- 32:34Speaker 4: percent air, twenty percent chip, And y'all know they're four
- 32:38Speaker 4: dollars a bag. It ain't a lay, it ain't a
- 32:41Speaker 4: free though. It's expensive.
- 32:44Speaker 5: Quest.
- 32:45Speaker 4: If you're out there listening, you're a bum. Yeah, I
- 32:48Speaker 4: almost took a picture, almost went full caring.
- 32:51Speaker 5: I was that mad back in.
- 32:52Speaker 3: My day tagging chips. It was almost to the top.
- 32:56Speaker 4: It's like fifty to fifty at least at least pissed.
- 32:59Speaker 5: Me right off on that note, we'll take a break.
- 33:02Speaker 5: More TV coming your.
- 33:03Speaker 1: Way, off the bench.
- 33:06Speaker 3: Give me all that air Jay getting us all fired
