- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:06Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:10Speaker 1: Amy Torver. I'm Sophie Torver. And I'm Kate Torver. And
- 0:13Speaker 1: coming up on today's show, Abbey Chatfield's TikTok apology following
- 0:17Speaker 1: boyfriend's ban from the US. And Sam Guggenheimer hard launches
- 0:22Speaker 1: her new boyfriend. But first, Sarah's Day says her level
- 0:25Speaker 1: of regret is unfathomable after purchasing a non-refundable mattress that
- 0:30Speaker 1: is too high for her bed. The YouTuber confessed that
- 0:33Speaker 1: she wants to cry every time she walks into her
- 0:35Speaker 1: bedroom because it looks so ridiculous.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen a mattress that
- 0:41Speaker 2: thick or that high. I mean, it does look comfortable,
- 0:44Speaker 2: I have to say, but it doesn't look quite right
- 0:46Speaker 2: on her current bed frame. That being said, it looked
- 0:48Speaker 2: very comfortable. I was almost a bit envious of the
- 0:50Speaker 2: comfort level of it. It looks super luxe. Like I'm
- 0:53Speaker 2: guessing it costs an absolute bomb.
- 0:55Speaker 1: But it's only comfortable if you like a high bed.
- 0:58Speaker 1: So I'm someone who prefers my bed comfortable. down a
- 1:02Speaker 1: lot lower, but surely she needs a new bed frame
- 1:04Speaker 1: because it clearly doesn't fit the bed frame. Like I've got,
- 1:07Speaker 1: I got a new king bed in January and it
- 1:10Speaker 1: was like the best purchase of my life. And I
- 1:12Speaker 1: got a bed frame that's so low to the ground.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I just love it.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Now, Sarah posted about this recent purchase on her TikTok
- 1:18Speaker 2: and she explained that she and Kurt thought that they
- 1:20Speaker 2: would splash out and get a new one now that
- 1:22Speaker 2: their kids are a bit older because the other one
- 1:24Speaker 2: had a.
- 1:28Speaker 1: And ahead of the mattress.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Arriving, Sarah said that she was so excited because she
- 1:32Speaker 2: loves tweaking and elevating little elements of their home. But
- 1:35Speaker 2: that excitement was very much short-lived because when she saw
- 1:39Speaker 2: the mattress being set up, she said she felt physically ill.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I really felt this to my core because I'm someone
- 1:45Speaker 1: where if I'm making a decision about buying something for
- 1:48Speaker 1: my house or really anything in general, I go hardcore
- 1:52Speaker 1: researching it. Like I need to read every review and
- 1:54Speaker 1: then I literally sit on it for months and months
- 1:57Speaker 1: and months and my husband has to be like can
- 1:59Speaker 1: you just make a decision and then when you make
- 2:01Speaker 1: the wrong decision it burns you up so much particularly
- 2:04Speaker 1: for something so expensive like a mattress yeah well.
- 2:06Speaker 2: I mean before the mattress arrived there were a couple
- 2:09Speaker 2: of red flags because she was recommended to purchase some
- 2:13Speaker 2: new sheets so some deeper sheets so I mean you
- 2:16Speaker 2: know maybe the writing was on the wall a little
- 2:18Speaker 2: bit I am going to include a photo of this
- 2:20Speaker 2: mattress on our Instagram account just to give it justice
- 2:23Speaker 2: but to paint a picture I When Sarah was sitting
- 2:26Speaker 2: on her bed, it was giving Alice in Wonderland vibes.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Like she looked miniature on this bed. It almost looked
- 2:32Speaker 2: like three mattresses were stacked on top of each other.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Let's throw to some of what Sarah said about this mattress.
- 2:39Speaker 1: This is the mattress for giants. I can't even sit
- 2:45Speaker 1: on my bed anymore. I don't know if it looks
- 2:48Speaker 1: normal on the camera, but I'm telling you in proportion,
- 2:52Speaker 1: in proportion to my bedside table. That is not okay.
- 2:58Speaker 3: That, it's up to my hip, basically.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I hate it.
- 3:04Speaker 3: I hate it.
- 3:07Speaker 1: I hate it.
- 3:09Speaker 2: My best friend came over and was like, what the
- 3:11Speaker 2: heck is this?
- 3:13Speaker 1: Like, how did I not notice it was so....
- 3:17Speaker 3: It's literally the size of my quad. And it's so squishy.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Too squishy and I said from my tummy I'm gonna
- 3:26Speaker 2: have a arched back.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I'm so mad at myself so not only is this
- 3:35Speaker 1: mattress monstrously high but it's also apparently uncomfortable I mean
- 3:39Speaker 1: in the video she did point out that she didn't
- 3:41Speaker 1: really spend enough time on this mattress she briefly sat
- 3:44Speaker 1: on it lay down on it for a little bit,
- 3:46Speaker 1: but she was too busy chasing after her kids. She
- 3:47Speaker 1: couldn't really concentrate. In reality, I've never seen such a
- 3:50Speaker 1: big mattress before. I feel like the people should have
- 3:52Speaker 1: warned her who sold it to her. I think the
- 3:54Speaker 1: key reason why they picked this mattress out was because
- 3:57Speaker 1: they were told that the Crown Penthouse Suite has this. Oh,
- 4:01Speaker 1: that was the selling point, wasn't it? Yeah, you could tell.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I feel like Kurt is the one that picked this out.
- 4:05Speaker 2: It was definitely Kurt who was pushing this purchase because
- 4:08Speaker 2: they recently stayed as a family at the Crown for
- 4:10Speaker 2: Malachi's fourth birthday. Did you know that they have a
- 4:13Speaker 2: Crown shop where you can purchase some of the furniture
- 4:15Speaker 2: in the penthouse?
- 4:16Speaker 3: Really?
- 4:17Speaker 1: So I wonder if they've purchased it from here or
- 4:19Speaker 1: through a wholesaler. I mean, I had no idea about this,
- 4:22Speaker 1: but I think you need to be in a different
- 4:24Speaker 1: tax bracket to actually do this. Like, Who's staying in
- 4:27Speaker 1: a hotel and being like, I really liked that $ 2, 000 chair.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I'm going to hop on the crown. Well, evidently a
- 4:32Speaker 1: lot of people, if they've set up a shop, I
- 4:34Speaker 1: think it would happen more than you think in terms
- 4:36Speaker 1: of like maybe the pillows and the bedding and stuff.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I mean, great marketing. Yeah. What I think's happened, as
- 4:41Speaker 1: you said, Kurt really liked the mattress and I don't
- 4:43Speaker 1: mean to generalize, but I don't think men really care
- 4:45Speaker 1: about the aesthetic of your bedroom or your mattress. I mean,
- 4:48Speaker 1: he'd look at it and go, that looks really comfortable
- 4:50Speaker 1: because it did. I mean, a thick mattress would be comfortable.
- 4:54Speaker 1: They're going to have to get a new bed. Yeah.
- 4:56Speaker 1: There is no way that that ginormous mattress can sit
- 4:59Speaker 1: on that low, thin bed. Well, how much do you
- 5:02Speaker 1: reckon this costs? Because I have looked into this a lot. $ 7, 000?
- 5:06Speaker 1: You are very close. Really?
- 5:08Speaker 2: It turns out that an Aussie company called Comfort Sleep,
- 5:11Speaker 2: they produce mattresses for the crown. And the mattress in
- 5:15Speaker 2: question that they have in the penthouse retails for $ 7, 600.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Is it terrible that when you said the crown and
- 5:21Speaker 2: even when Sarah's Day said something about the crown, I
- 5:23Speaker 2: instantly thought of the royal family.
- 5:25Speaker 1: I was like, oh, it's a royal mattress. I think
- 5:27Speaker 1: the royals are sleeping on even more expensive mattress. Do
- 5:29Speaker 1: you know what though? As I said, I went bed
- 5:31Speaker 1: shopping earlier this year and I was like, oh yeah,
- 5:34Speaker 1: my budget's around like $ 1, 500, $ 2, 000. They're like, oh, so
- 5:36Speaker 1: from the lower end, okay. And I was like, I
- 5:40Speaker 1: thought that was quite expensive for a mattress. We've got
- 5:42Speaker 1: our Pov mattresses over there. Yeah, we'll just bung them
- 5:45Speaker 1: in the corner there.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Well, Sarah mentioned in this clip that the mattress was non-refundable, which,
- 5:51Speaker 2: I mean, is that a thing? Like I think you
- 5:53Speaker 2: should be able to return it unless you've slept on it.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Once you've slept on it. I haven't slept on it.
- 5:58Speaker 1: I reckon it's got something to do with how difficult
- 6:01Speaker 1: it would be to install that mattress and get it
- 6:03Speaker 1: into the house. Or if it's custom. Because she said
- 6:05Speaker 1: that when the workmen brought it in and they were
- 6:07Speaker 1: unfolding it, it sounded like there was some kind of
- 6:10Speaker 1: person specifically from the mattress company there talking them through it.
- 6:14Speaker 1: So this is not a mattress that you're like, oh,
- 6:16Speaker 1: actually I'd like to return it now. I think it's custom.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Well, I mean, in saying that, maybe it's custom made
- 6:21Speaker 2: to their bed shape but not the thickness.
- 6:24Speaker 1: They are changing everything in their house though. I saw
- 6:27Speaker 1: Sarah's recent vlog, which I've got to say I love.
- 6:29Speaker 1: She's getting back on the vlogging train. They were talking
- 6:32Speaker 1: about ripping their bathroom sinks out. Oh, we're doing a tweak.
- 6:35Speaker 1: So we've decided to upgrade the basin in our bathroom.
- 6:39Speaker 1: But as we did it, we actually chipped the marble
- 6:41Speaker 1: that probably would have cost $ 10, 000. So now we're getting
- 6:43Speaker 1: a new slab of marble and they're doing their holiday
- 6:47Speaker 1: house because a lot of people were like, oh, why
- 6:48Speaker 1: don't you just ship the mattress off to your holiday house?
- 6:51Speaker 1: They should. But a $ 7, 000 mattress. No, they just need
- 6:54Speaker 1: to upgrade their bedding.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Well, I mean, we have to run through some of
- 6:57Speaker 2: the comments on TikTok because there were some pretty funny ones.
- 7:00Speaker 2: So at the time of recording, the videos had 191,000
- 7:04Speaker 2: views and a lot of Sarah's followers agreed with her
- 7:07Speaker 2: saying that the mattress was far too high. One wrote,
- 7:10Speaker 2: it's a mattress for giants. There's no way I could
- 7:12Speaker 2: get over it. Whilst another said, it's giving princess and
- 7:15Speaker 2: the pea. There were some followers who were all for
- 7:19Speaker 2: the mattress though. One wrote, no, the high mattress is luxe.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Just get a new bed frame and bedside tables. Whilst
- 7:25Speaker 2: another said, it's so much better now. Low mattresses give
- 7:28Speaker 2: uni-flat Ikea vibes.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Can you imagine the Cronulla charity shop just getting this
- 7:33Speaker 1: donation of this $ 7, 000 mattress? She wouldn't donate it. She
- 7:36Speaker 1: puts everything on Facebook Marketplace. So if you're in the
- 7:38Speaker 1: market for a new mattress and you live in that area,
- 7:42Speaker 1: I'd keep an eye out. You've got a spare $ 7, 000
- 7:44Speaker 1: just to drop. Actually, let's be honest. She'd probably promote
- 7:46Speaker 1: the fact that she was selling it on her Instagram page.
- 7:49Speaker 1: I want to put a poll on Instagram. Do you
- 7:50Speaker 1: prefer high beds or low beds?
- 7:53Speaker 3: Morning, everyone. I just wanted to come on here and
- 7:55Speaker 3: talk to you about a video that is recirculating or
- 7:58Speaker 3: that is being, in my opinion, misunderstood and exaggerated.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Peking Duck singer Adam Hyde was forced to cancel the
- 8:07Speaker 1: last leg of his North America tour after he was
- 8:10Speaker 1: denied entry back into the US. A day later, his
- 8:14Speaker 1: partner Abby Chatfield issued an apology for a TikTok she
- 8:17Speaker 1: posted a year ago amid speculation it was the reason
- 8:20Speaker 1: he was barred Now, so if Adam arrived in the
- 8:23Speaker 1: US at the start of the month for a series
- 8:25Speaker 1: of solo shows. That's right.
- 8:26Speaker 2: When this news first broke, there was some confusion because
- 8:30Speaker 2: people didn't realize that Adam had already performed a couple
- 8:33Speaker 2: of shows in America. It was only when he went
- 8:35Speaker 2: to perform in Toronto and then tried to re-enter America,
- 8:40Speaker 2: he was actually detained at the Canadian border. Now, he
- 8:43Speaker 2: broke the news to fans on social media, writing, Unfortunately,
- 8:46Speaker 2: I'm not going to make it to tonight's show at
- 8:48Speaker 2: Baby's All Right in New York City. I've spent all
- 8:51Speaker 2: day detained at the Canadian border and denied entry back
- 8:55Speaker 2: into the US despite having the proper visa documentation in place.
- 8:59Speaker 2: I'm still trying to get clarity on the situation myself. Now,
- 9:03Speaker 2: he finished the Instagram post by saying the decision had
- 9:06Speaker 2: left him gutted. and that he hates letting people down
- 9:09Speaker 2: and really wanted to party with his fans. Adam's reps
- 9:12Speaker 2: told the media that he was not given a reason
- 9:14Speaker 2: by authorities as to why his visa was cancelled.
- 9:18Speaker 1: As soon as this news broke online, people instantly started
- 9:22Speaker 1: speculating that Adam was denied entry because of anti-Trump content
- 9:26Speaker 1: that Abby Chatfield, his partner, had shared online. Now, recently,
- 9:29Speaker 1: the US has dramatically escalated its border screenings, they've been
- 9:33Speaker 1: targeting travelers, social media, and electronic devices. So back in December,
- 9:38Speaker 1: the US proposed that foreign tourists wanting to enter the
- 9:41Speaker 1: US would have to provide five years of social media
- 9:44Speaker 1: history as part of the mandatory ESTA application process. They
- 9:48Speaker 1: have really ramped up their vetting process. They're now using
- 9:51Speaker 1: AI technology to search for certain terms through people's text
- 9:54Speaker 1: messages or on their social media accounts. And they are
- 9:58Speaker 1: screening for any material that may suggest hostility towards the
- 10:02Speaker 1: US government. Or Donald Trump. I mean, let's be honest,
- 10:04Speaker 1: that's really what this is about. I mean, it doesn't
- 10:06Speaker 1: make you want to go to the US right now,
- 10:08Speaker 1: does it? I mean, it's complete censorship. It's quite ironic
- 10:11Speaker 1: for a country that's all about freedom of speech. I mean,
- 10:13Speaker 1: things have gotten so bad that travelers are being recommended
- 10:16Speaker 1: to not bring their usual devices to the US and
- 10:19Speaker 1: rather bring in a burner phone so that it doesn't
- 10:21Speaker 1: hold years of personal data. I mean, that might look
- 10:24Speaker 1: a little bit sus. Now, a day after Adam was
- 10:26Speaker 1: turned away, Abby issued an apology on TikTok over a
- 10:29Speaker 1: video she created in July last year, which she says
- 10:33Speaker 1: has come back to haunt her. So in the video,
- 10:36Speaker 1: which has been recirculating online, Abby reacted to news that
- 10:39Speaker 1: Luigi Mangione was receiving love letters whilst in prison. So
- 10:44Speaker 1: Luigi is the former Ivy League student who shot and
- 10:48Speaker 1: killed United Healthcare CEO, Brian Thompson. And this was outside
- 10:51Speaker 1: of a New York hotel. Now, following his arrest, there
- 10:54Speaker 1: were some corners of the internet who branded him a
- 10:57Speaker 1: folk hero. Now, this was due to the public anger
- 11:00Speaker 1: at the time over high healthcare costs. There were also
- 11:04Speaker 1: people who thought he was hot. So they were calling
- 11:06Speaker 1: him the hot assassin, And they were flooding him with
- 11:09Speaker 1: love letters whilst in prison.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Now, snippets of this video that Abby created about Luigi
- 11:14Speaker 2: have been circulating on TikTok again. A lot of people
- 11:17Speaker 2: must have screen recorded it because Abby actually deleted it
- 11:20Speaker 2: not long after she uploaded it.
- 11:22Speaker 1: For those who haven't seen it, Abby joked about incels
- 11:26Speaker 1: saying they should start a revolution if they want to
- 11:28Speaker 1: get pussy like Luigi. She then said this. When are
- 11:33Speaker 1: you going to do it? Why isn't it already done?
- 11:38Speaker 1: Every day, there's another happening.
- 11:42Speaker 3: There's all these incels that are going, oh, my God.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Not me.
- 11:45Speaker 1: So they go and do.
- 11:45Speaker 3: You know what would actually make people respect you a
- 11:49Speaker 3: little bit and make people want you?
- 11:52Speaker 1: Is if you did it. Is if you did it.
- 11:55Speaker 1: You get heaps of fan mail. Oh, my God. Oh,
- 11:58Speaker 1: my God. Just do it. Now, in the clip, Abby
- 12:05Speaker 1: held her fingers up to represent a gun on a
- 12:08Speaker 1: number of occasions. And following this video, she was quickly
- 12:12Speaker 1: accused of calling for the assassination of President Trump. Now,
- 12:15Speaker 1: Abby denied she called for the assassination of Donald Trump
- 12:18Speaker 1: in her 10-minute apology video. She said she did not
- 12:21Speaker 1: say those words and she was making a vague punchline
- 12:23Speaker 1: with incels about the reaction to Luigi. Let's take a
- 12:26Speaker 1: listen to some more of what she said.
- 12:29Speaker 3: People have said that I have called for the assassination
- 12:32Speaker 3: of Trump. I do not want that to happen.
- 12:38Speaker 1: I want to be clear.
- 12:40Speaker 3: I do not believe that political assassinations are positive for anybody.
- 12:45Speaker 3: In fact, when Charlie Kirk was assassinated, I said that
- 12:48Speaker 3: the first thing I said was I hated the guy
- 12:50Speaker 3: because I really didn't like his political views. And even now,
- 12:54Speaker 3: when I look back, I go, I shouldn't have said
- 12:56Speaker 3: that I hated him. I should have said I disagreed
- 12:59Speaker 3: with his political views. That's what I should have said
- 13:01Speaker 3: because I don't know him.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Right.
- 13:04Speaker 3: But Now, while Abby was adamant that she didn't call
- 13:07Speaker 3: for Trump's assassination.
- 13:32Speaker 2: She apologized, saying she would hate to think anyone was
- 13:35Speaker 2: encouraged by what she said.
- 13:37Speaker 1: She also admitted that she regretted making the TikTok video.
- 13:41Speaker 1: She went on to say that it was not appropriate
- 13:43Speaker 1: to make jokes about this or to suggest people should
- 13:46Speaker 1: follow in the footsteps of Luigi. She then explained that
- 13:49Speaker 1: at the time she released this video, she was going
- 13:52Speaker 1: through an incredibly tough time with the media and was
- 13:54Speaker 1: receiving constant death threats. This led her to feeling like
- 13:58Speaker 1: she was in a state of pure perpetual panic. And
- 14:01Speaker 1: she was trying to have dark humor at the time.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Abby also said that since making that video, she's learned
- 14:07Speaker 1: so much about shutting up and thinking before she speaks.
- 14:10Speaker 1: I'm guessing that's also coming off the back of her
- 14:12Speaker 1: being successfully sued twice now for defamation this year. She
- 14:16Speaker 1: also said she's made an effort in the last year
- 14:18Speaker 1: not to call people out directly, but rather talk about
- 14:21Speaker 1: the topics at hand and not the individual. Abby even
- 14:24Speaker 1: went as far as saying, looking back at her career,
- 14:26Speaker 1: there's so much she would have done differently. And this
- 14:28Speaker 1: is one of those things.
- 14:29Speaker 2: I have never seen her be so reflective. Usually her
- 14:34Speaker 2: stance is that what she said is correct and she
- 14:36Speaker 2: fully believes in it. It's interesting that behind the scenes
- 14:40Speaker 2: for a year now, she's been reflecting on the type
- 14:42Speaker 2: of content that she's been producing and has been trying.
- 14:44Speaker 1: To switch it up a bit.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Instantly, people started asking Abby if her apology came off
- 14:48Speaker 2: the back of Adam being denied entry into the U.S.,
- 14:52Speaker 2: One TikTok user asked if this was the case, pointing
- 14:55Speaker 2: out that she's had a year to rectify the comments. Interestingly,
- 14:58Speaker 2: Mitch Orville commented under a video of Abby's apology saying
- 15:02Speaker 2: that this was merely a visa application.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Interesting that he would be weighing in when he's got
- 15:06Speaker 1: his own personal shit going on. Now, Abby ended up
- 15:10Speaker 1: creating a nine-minute video answering this question in depth, and
- 15:14Speaker 1: she explained that she was receiving thousands of comments about
- 15:17Speaker 1: the resurface video, and off the back of it, media
- 15:20Speaker 1: outlets had begun reporting that it as verbatim that she
- 15:23Speaker 1: wanted Trump to be assassinated. And she said that she
- 15:26Speaker 1: wanted to set the record straight and say that was
- 15:28Speaker 1: not true. Abby also said the situation has given her
- 15:31Speaker 1: the opportunity to address her past comments, which she says
- 15:35Speaker 1: she regrets. She also admitted that she needs to be
- 15:38Speaker 1: less sarcastic and snarky and has tried to rein herself
- 15:41Speaker 1: in over the past year.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Again, I don't think I've ever seen her be this reflective.
- 15:46Speaker 2: She was also saying that she needs to speak with
- 15:48Speaker 2: more nuance and without so many absolutes. She really tried
- 15:52Speaker 2: to demonstrate how much she has changed in the past
- 15:54Speaker 2: year by revealing that she has reached out to people
- 15:57Speaker 2: in the public eye that she's previously had beef with
- 16:00Speaker 2: and they've since become friends and they're going to do
- 16:02Speaker 2: a podcast together.
- 16:03Speaker 1: I wonder who this is. Why did I immediately think
- 16:06Speaker 1: Britt Hockley? Oh, that sounds so good. I would definitely
- 16:08Speaker 1: tune into that. The thing is, it's a difficult situation
- 16:12Speaker 1: because it's kind of like the chicken and the egg
- 16:13Speaker 1: because Abby's saying, oh, no, this isn't in response to
- 16:16Speaker 1: Adam getting barred from the U.S., it's in response to
- 16:19Speaker 1: people commenting on that video. But it's like, well, hasn't
- 16:23Speaker 1: him being barred from the US caused people to comment
- 16:26Speaker 1: on that video again? Like that's incited it. So it
- 16:28Speaker 1: really is in reaction, I suppose, to it. But it's
- 16:31Speaker 1: just unfortunate because we spoke about it two weeks ago,
- 16:33Speaker 1: how the media are just after Abby Chatfield. And again,
- 16:36Speaker 1: this incident has just sparked some disgusting headlines about her.
- 16:40Speaker 1: And I just worry about her mental health because she's
- 16:42Speaker 1: been dealing with so much backlash recently. It's a really.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Difficult one because Adam is trying to make a solo
- 16:49Speaker 2: career for himself in the US. So it's very important
- 16:52Speaker 2: that he can regularly travel there. So his team have
- 16:55Speaker 2: probably said, hey, could you please make sure that your
- 16:58Speaker 2: girlfriend removes her political videos and isn't so outspoken on
- 17:02Speaker 2: political issues? But then for her, That has been the
- 17:04Speaker 2: basis of her online career for quite a number of
- 17:07Speaker 2: years now. Abby is probably looking at this though and thinking, well,
- 17:10Speaker 2: I'm getting death threats from it. It's probably not particularly
- 17:12Speaker 2: helping my career out that much because I'm being viewed
- 17:15Speaker 2: as this very outspoken person that brands might not necessarily
- 17:18Speaker 2: want to work with. So maybe I do have to
- 17:20Speaker 2: rein it in a bit. Maybe I do have to
- 17:22Speaker 2: change the content that I'm putting out there. And it's
- 17:24Speaker 2: clear that this is something that she has been trying
- 17:26Speaker 2: to do for.
- 17:27Speaker 1: A year now. I think so much has changed since
- 17:30Speaker 1: she became famous because if you think about it, She
- 17:33Speaker 1: was on Matt Agnew's series of The Bachelor. It was
- 17:35Speaker 1: 2020 and she was cast as a villain. And normally
- 17:38Speaker 1: the villain wouldn't have any career off the back of that.
- 17:41Speaker 1: But it was at a time where people were calling
- 17:43Speaker 1: out misogynistic behavior and she was almost the poster child
- 17:47Speaker 1: for that type of revolution. Everyone loved her. They loved
- 17:51Speaker 1: her hot takes on things. And it was a time
- 17:53Speaker 1: when cancel culture was rife and people were calling people out.
- 17:57Speaker 1: And that's how she really built her platform. And now
- 17:59Speaker 1: we're seeing people move away. from that type of call
- 18:02Speaker 1: out culture. And it seems like Abby Chatfield is now
- 18:05Speaker 1: trying to go through a rebrand and work out, well,
- 18:07Speaker 1: what is her content going to be about? I think
- 18:09Speaker 1: people forget how young Abby Chatfield is and that she's
- 18:12Speaker 1: been in the public eye since she was 23. So
- 18:15Speaker 1: over that time, obviously her opinions have changed and you're
- 18:20Speaker 1: allowed to change your opinion. What's difficult though, is when
- 18:22Speaker 1: you share those opinions online and then feel like you
- 18:25Speaker 1: have to stand by something that you might not agree
- 18:28Speaker 1: with now. I get that she made these comments a
- 18:30Speaker 1: year ago. I mean, I don't think her opinion has
- 18:32Speaker 1: so much changed from a year ago. Like I think
- 18:34Speaker 1: it's more that she realizes that she can't go on
- 18:36Speaker 1: her social media and just say whatever she wants because
- 18:39Speaker 1: she's had consequences from it. She's had two successful defamation
- 18:42Speaker 1: cases against her this year. So it's really about her going, okay, well, what,
- 18:47Speaker 1: what can I say? And what do I feel comfortable
- 18:49Speaker 1: talking about? That's not having this immense backlash on her
- 18:52Speaker 1: because she has spoken openly about how it has impacted
- 18:55Speaker 1: her mental health. I think people forget though as well
- 18:57Speaker 1: like sometimes when creators like Abby jump online they're sort
- 19:01Speaker 1: of playing a bit of a character and I know
- 19:03Speaker 1: it's her at the end of the day. Yeah but
- 19:04Speaker 1: that's why she needs to rebrand. Yeah but that's what
- 19:06Speaker 1: I'm saying like when she's jumping on having all of
- 19:08Speaker 1: these out there outlandish views or you know strong opinions
- 19:12Speaker 1: on things she's putting on a bit of a persona
- 19:14Speaker 1: so well you know behind the scenes like even hearing
- 19:17Speaker 1: her say oh I regret some of the stuff that
- 19:18Speaker 1: I said It was actually really refreshing to hear that
- 19:21Speaker 1: because it's clearly the conversation she's probably having behind the
- 19:23Speaker 1: scenes of, oh, fuck, that didn't land how I expected
- 19:25Speaker 1: it to land. That's not really how I feel or
- 19:27Speaker 1: how I act 24-7. She's also playing into the algorithm
- 19:30Speaker 1: as well. And, you know, the algorithm rewards hot takes
- 19:35Speaker 1: and controversial opinions. Now back to Adam's situation. On Thursday,
- 19:40Speaker 1: the media reported that Adam was barred from re-entering the
- 19:42Speaker 1: US due to national security concerns. Nine ended up contacting
- 19:47Speaker 1: US Customs and Border Protection who confirmed the news and
- 19:51Speaker 1: they provided the media outlet with a statement that said,
- 19:53Speaker 1: Adam Hyde was not deported. He was denied entry at
- 19:56Speaker 1: Toronto Pearson International Airport on May 7th, 2026 due to
- 20:00Speaker 1: national security concerns. The Trump administration is enforcing immigration laws,
- 20:05Speaker 1: something the Biden administration failed to do. All persons arriving
- 20:09Speaker 1: at a port of entry to the United States are
- 20:11Speaker 1: subject to inspection on a case-by-case basis. The statement finished saying,
- 20:15Speaker 1: A visa is a privilege, not a right, and only
- 20:17Speaker 1: those who respect our laws and follow the proper procedure
- 20:21Speaker 1: will be welcomed. So reading between the lines, they're basically
- 20:24Speaker 1: confirming that he was barred entry because of Abby's video,
- 20:27Speaker 1: because they saw that as a national security concern. I mean,
- 20:31Speaker 1: that's what I would take from it. Sam Guggenheimer has
- 20:36Speaker 1: hard-launched her new boyfriend. Earlier this month, she teased her
- 20:39Speaker 1: audience that she was dating someone, but she wasn't yet
- 20:43Speaker 1: a girlfriend. At the time, the 24-year-old said she wasn't
- 20:46Speaker 1: sure if she would publicly share about the relationship. Now, Kate,
- 20:50Speaker 1: that all changed last week during a holiday to the Maldives. Yes,
- 20:54Speaker 1: it certainly did. I'm guessing the picture-perfect setting made it
- 20:57Speaker 1: impossible not to share. And it turns out it was
- 21:00Speaker 1: a mix of business and pleasure for Sam's new boyfriend.
- 21:02Speaker 1: So his name is Ryan Maloney and he's a DJ
- 21:06Speaker 1: and he's been playing at a festival in the Maldives.
- 21:09Speaker 1: He's giving me Bailey Smith vibes. He's got like long
- 21:12Speaker 1: blonde hair. He's very ripped, very tanned, a good looking guy. Yeah,
- 21:16Speaker 1: there is a similarity going on, which makes things a
- 21:18Speaker 1: little bit awkward because Bailey Smith dated her ex bestie
- 21:21Speaker 1: and arch nemesis, Izzy Armitage. So I wonder if she's like,
- 21:25Speaker 1: what the hell? I think it was in our 2026
- 21:27Speaker 1: influencer predictions. I said that I thought Sammy Guggenheimer and
- 21:30Speaker 1: Bailey Smith might get together. So maybe I misviewed this
- 21:33Speaker 1: in our crystal ball. Now Ryan's got around 7,000 followers
- 21:36Speaker 1: on social media. So not a massive deal online, but
- 21:39Speaker 1: I've done some digging, Sophie, for the listeners. It turns
- 21:42Speaker 1: out he comes from a very wealthy family. So his
- 21:45Speaker 1: father is pub magnate Kim Maloney and his mum is
- 21:49Speaker 1: Sydney socialite Di Maloney. Now, they got divorced around 10
- 21:53Speaker 1: years ago, and since then, Di Maloney has become renowned
- 21:56Speaker 1: for hosting lavish parties at a Point Piper mansion. In particular,
- 22:01Speaker 1: she's loved in the East for her epic New Year's
- 22:04Speaker 1: Eve parties. Where do we get an invite? Well, apparently
- 22:06Speaker 1: it's the norm for 800 guests to rock up to this,
- 22:09Speaker 1: so maybe we could try and snag an invite at
- 22:10Speaker 1: some point. And they're really next level, so they really
- 22:14Speaker 1: go all out. For Halloween, they transform the tennis court
- 22:17Speaker 1: into this cemetery with tombstones and Another time they had
- 22:20Speaker 1: a pool party and they decked out the court with
- 22:22Speaker 1: cabanas and paddle pools. There was even a special tropical
- 22:25Speaker 1: party for Ryan where they shipped in three tonne of sands.
- 22:28Speaker 1: So it seems like Sammy Guggs is rubbing shoulders with
- 22:31Speaker 1: the elite. I mean, she's only just moved to Sydney.
- 22:33Speaker 1: I reckon her friends are going to love it because
- 22:35Speaker 1: apparently at these parties there's a lot of free-flowing champagne,
- 22:37Speaker 1: there's caviar stands, there's light shows, smoke machines.
- 22:41Speaker 2: I mean, you know, she's making ex-best friends left, right
- 22:44Speaker 2: and centre, but I think she'll be making a whole
- 22:45Speaker 2: lot of new friends.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Through these cool parties. Oh, definitely. And center stage at
- 22:50Speaker 1: the parties is Ryan because, of course, he's a DJ.
- 22:53Speaker 1: And thanks to his mum, he's had a lot of
- 22:55Speaker 1: experience because he DJs at her venue, the Plaza Hotel.
- 23:00Speaker 1: He also hosts sponsored parties at his mum's $ 29. 2 million
- 23:04Speaker 1: oceanfront property. Sorry, excuse me, $ 29 million. Watching Lux listings,
- 23:10Speaker 1: that's the caliber of house on there. Like that's even
- 23:12Speaker 1: quite expensive for some of the Lux listing houses.
- 23:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Well, Di actually made headlines when she purchased this property
- 23:17Speaker 1: in Tamarama in 2022. So it was a block of
- 23:20Speaker 1: five apartments, which she has since developed into luxury apartments
- 23:24Speaker 1: for her children. And Ryan's a really lucky boy. I
- 23:27Speaker 1: can see why Sam is keen on him. He also
- 23:29Speaker 1: drives a black Lamborghini. that presumably his parents bought him. Oh,
- 23:33Speaker 1: come on. He might have bought it. He might have
- 23:35Speaker 1: done a few jobs around the house, taking the bin
- 23:37Speaker 1: out or something like that, the sticker system. His mum
- 23:39Speaker 1: might pay him a lot for DJing at the Plaza Hotel. True.
- 23:43Speaker 1: I'm wondering if Sam and Ryan met through Ryan's sister
- 23:46Speaker 1: because she's an influencer herself. She has around 70,000 followers
- 23:50Speaker 1: across her social media platforms and she shares kind of
- 23:53Speaker 1: that rich girl content. So she posts about travelling first
- 23:56Speaker 1: class around the world and she also shares fashion content.
- 23:59Speaker 1: I feel like she fits... their friendship description, doesn't she? Oh,
- 24:03Speaker 1: that controversial one where it was like, oh, Sam would
- 24:05Speaker 1: only allow this person. I mean, I feel like this
- 24:08Speaker 1: girl would be working at Cook Eye. Well, she wouldn't
- 24:11Speaker 1: be working with a mum and dad worth millions. But
- 24:13Speaker 1: the type, you know what I mean? Like she might
- 24:14Speaker 1: pop in and work there for a couple of shifts
- 24:16Speaker 1: just to, you know. I mean, judging by her parents'
- 24:18Speaker 1: property portfolio, I think Sammy Googs would be the one
- 24:20Speaker 1: trying to move in with them. This is clearly why
- 24:24Speaker 1: she's moved from Melbourne to Sydney because she clearly was
- 24:26Speaker 1: chatting to him online and wanted to make this thing
- 24:28Speaker 1: a possibility. It seems like things are quite serious between
- 24:31Speaker 1: them because someone wrote on her TikTok, thought she was
- 24:35Speaker 1: never going to post her relationship online. And then she said,
- 24:38Speaker 1: when you love someone, you want to be proud of them.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Of course she wants to post about him. It's good content.
- 24:43Speaker 2: She has had a couple of months where the internet
- 24:46Speaker 2: has not loved her.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Everyone loves a hot couple and a new romance. Like
- 24:50Speaker 1: people will be tuning in in their droves. Well, particularly
- 24:52Speaker 1: when they're going on lavish trips to the Maldives. And
- 24:54Speaker 1: she's probably going to post about driving around in his
- 24:57Speaker 1: black Lamborghini. I'm not sure how much longer he will
- 24:59Speaker 1: have access to it because- While Ryan has been DJing
- 25:03Speaker 1: in the Maldives, it seems like his mom is having
- 25:05Speaker 1: quite a tough time. So at the moment, there's renewed
- 25:09Speaker 1: public interest in her party. She's been holding after reports
- 25:12Speaker 1: emerged earlier this month that she is embroiled in major
- 25:16Speaker 1: financial and legal disputes tied to her property and hotel ventures.
- 25:21Speaker 1: So creditors and receivers claim she owes sums in the
- 25:24Speaker 1: tens of millions linked to unpaid loans, renovation and legal
- 25:28Speaker 1: costs associated with the Plaza Hotel project. Now, Di Maloney
- 25:32Speaker 1: strongly disputes many of these allegations and says some of
- 25:35Speaker 1: the debts being pursued against her are exaggerated or invalid.
- 25:40Speaker 1: And off the back of the news, the Sydney Morning
- 25:42Speaker 1: Herald asked Di about these lavish parties she holds. And
- 25:46Speaker 1: she replied, they're usually for my kids. I often don't
- 25:49Speaker 1: even go. Just because they're in my house doesn't mean
- 25:52Speaker 1: I'm hosting the party. Now, she had a bit of
- 25:54Speaker 1: a backflip days later and she said, The parties are
- 25:57Speaker 1: all about building a brand as a top party venue
- 26:00Speaker 1: at the Point Piper House and leveraging off that to
- 26:03Speaker 1: create the same sort of brand for the Plaza Hotel.
- 26:06Speaker 1: She said, You think I was going to get it
- 26:13Speaker 1: from being the star bar. She's also publicly accredited Ryan
- 26:18Speaker 1: for designing the Plaza Hotels nightclub and DJ space, as
- 26:21Speaker 1: well as her daughter Sarah for introducing influences to the venue.
- 26:25Speaker 1: I wonder if one of those influences was Sammy Guggenheimer.
- 26:28Speaker 1: I'm guessing Sam was invited to one of these events
- 26:30Speaker 1: and that's how she's met this family. I'm wondering... If
- 26:33Speaker 1: she is oblivious, though, to the drama that's going on
- 26:36Speaker 1: within Ryan's family because she posted some vision of their
- 26:38Speaker 1: Maldives trip with the caption, I'm not here to engage
- 26:41Speaker 1: with gossip. I'm happy here enjoying a drama-free life that
- 26:45Speaker 1: I choose for myself. I don't think that's in reference
- 26:47Speaker 1: to his family at all. I think that's in reference
- 26:49Speaker 1: to all of the friendship bust-up she's having. Oh, I agree.
- 26:52Speaker 1: I think it was actually directed at her most recent
- 26:55Speaker 1: ex-best friend, Bill Barker, because someone commented on one of
- 26:58Speaker 1: Sam's many Maldives TikToks, where's Bill, to which she replied,
- 27:01Speaker 1: at home. And then Bill posted a video with the caption,
- 27:05Speaker 1: not home, actually just working kiss. But what I'm more
- 27:10Speaker 1: trying to say is she's in this love bubble at
- 27:13Speaker 1: the moment and, you know, everything's going great because she's
- 27:16Speaker 1: dating a multimillionaire's son. But I wonder if she's oblivious
- 27:20Speaker 1: to the issues that are going on behind the scenes.
- 27:23Speaker 2: I mean, I feel like she sort of lives for
- 27:24Speaker 2: the drama, so she probably doesn't really mind. I know
- 27:27Speaker 2: she's saying here that she's not about the drama, but
- 27:29Speaker 2: she clearly is about the drama and I think that
- 27:32Speaker 2: she is potentially entering into a family.
- 27:36Speaker 1: That's got an interesting background. Like I don't think it'd
- 27:39Speaker 1: be a boring sitting around the family table at dinner time,
- 27:42Speaker 1: would it? The thing is, if these rumors around Di
- 27:44Speaker 1: Maloney's financial situation are true and, you know, she's not
- 27:47Speaker 1: as rich as people think. His dad's still rich. Like
- 27:51Speaker 1: I don't think he's going to have many issues. Thank
- 27:52Speaker 1: God the father's rich. That solves all the problems.
- 27:55Speaker 2: On that note, I think that is all we have
- 27:57Speaker 2: time for today. Thank you so much for joining us
