- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, June 3rd.
- 0:11God sees and God answers. Have you ever prayed for
- 0:15something so deeply, so desperately, that it felt like
- 0:19God just wasn't listening? Like your prayer was going up,
- 0:23but nothing was coming back down?
- 0:25That kind of waiting can mess with your faith.
- 0:28It can make you wonder if God cares, if He sees if he's even
- 0:31there at all. Hannah knew that feeling.
- 0:35First Samuel chapter 1, verses 10 and 11 say she was deeply
- 0:40distressed and prayed to the Lord and wept bitterly.
- 0:43And she vowed A vow and said, O Lord of hosts, if you will
- 0:47indeed look on the affliction of your servant and Remember Me, I
- 0:50will give him to the Lord. All the days of his life.
- 0:53Hannah had been longing for a child for years.
- 0:56She had been mocked and dismissed, and in her deepest
- 0:59pain, she didn't walk away from God, She walked toward Him.
- 1:03She brought her mess, her tears, her honest heartbreak straight
- 1:07to God's feet. That's something powerful right
- 1:10there. We often think we have to clean
- 1:13ourselves up before we come to God, like we can only bring our
- 1:16prayers once we've got it together.
- 1:19But Hannah shows us a different way.
- 1:21She came broken. She came weeping, she came with
- 1:25nothing but her desperation and her trust and God heard her.
- 1:29And what's even more beautiful is what happened after, after
- 1:33God answered her prayer and gave her a son, Samuel.
- 1:37Hannah didn't forget where that blessing came from.
- 1:39First Samuel chapter 2 verse one says and Hannah prayed and said,
- 1:44my heart exalts in the Lord, My strength is exalted in the Lord.
- 1:48She didn't keep the blessing quietly.
- 1:50She turned it into praise. She let her answered prayer
- 1:54become a testimony. Now in the middle of this
- 1:57Proverbs chapter 17, verse 5 drops a word we shouldn't skip.
- 2:01Whoever mocks the poor insults his Maker.
- 2:04He who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished.
- 2:08God sees how we treat people who are hurting.
- 2:11Hannah was mocked and belittled in her pain, and God took note.
- 2:15He cares about how we respond to those around us who are
- 2:18suffering. Compassion isn't optional for
- 2:20the person of faith. It's a reflection of God's own
- 2:24heart. So what does this mean for us
- 2:26today? It means that God sees your
- 2:29tears. He hears those prayers you've
- 2:31been praying in the quiet late at night when nobody else knows
- 2:35what you're going through. He hasn't forgotten you, even
- 2:38when the waiting feels long. And like Hannah, your pain
- 2:42doesn't have to make you bitter. It can make you better.
- 2:45It can deepen your faith, soften your heart toward others who are
- 2:48hurting, and set up a story of praise that glorifies God in
- 2:52ways you never expected. Don't quit in the waiting.
- 2:57God is working even when you can't see it.
- 3:00Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for
- 3:04hearing us when we cry out to You.
- 3:06Help us to trust You in the waiting, even when the silence
- 3:09feels long and the pain feels heavy.
- 3:12Teach us to bring our real selves to You, just like Hannah
- 3:15did, and to show compassion to others around us who are
- 3:18hurting. We believe that you can turn our
- 3:21pain into praise. We believe you see us.
- 3:24Help us to keep trusting until the breakthrough comes.
- 3:27In Jesus name, Amen. When the battle feels personal,
- 3:33relentless, and too heavy to name, your prayers do not have
- 3:37to fall silent. Under Siege is a prayer script
- 3:40series for believers walking through fear, betrayal,
- 3:43spiritual pressure, and unseen conflict.
- 3:47With a warm, faith centered focus, these books give voice to
- 3:50the cry for help, the fight for a steady mind, the weariness
- 3:54that longs to run, the chaos of hostile environments, the pain
- 3:59of broken trust, and the confidence to leave judgment in
- 4:02God's hands. This series helps you pray with
- 4:05discernment, endurance, and covenant trust.
- 4:07When the pressure is real and the path feels narrow, stand
- 4:11firm. Pray clearly.
- 4:13Remember that God hears His people in the middle of the
- 4:16battle. Order now on Amazon or visit

- 4:26with God in today's three-year Bible reading plan.
- 4:31Proverbs chapter 17, Verse five World English Bible.
- 4:35Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his maker.
- 4:38He who is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.
- 4:41First Samuel chapters one to two World English Bible.
- 4:45Now there was a certain man of Ramatim Zophim of the Hill
- 4:49Country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of
- 4:52Jeromeham, the son of Alihu, the son of Tohu the son of Zaf and
- 4:56Ephraimite. He had two wives.
- 5:00The name of 1 was Hannah, and the name of the other Pennana.
- 5:03Pennana had children, but Hannah had no children.
- 5:07This man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and
- 5:10to sacrifice to Yahweh of armies in Shiloh.
- 5:13The two sons of Eli, Hofni, and Feynhas, priests to Yahweh, were
- 5:18there. When the day came that Elkanah
- 5:21sacrificed, he gave to Penina his wife, and to all her sons
- 5:24and her daughter's portions, but to Hannah he gave a double
- 5:28portion, for he loved Hannah, but Yahweh had shut up her womb.
- 5:33Her rival provoked her severely to irritate her, because Yahweh
- 5:37had shut up her womb. So year by year, when she went
- 5:40up to Yahweh's house, her rival provoked her.
- 5:43Therefore she wept and didn't eat.
- 5:46Elkanah, her husband, said to her, Hannah, why do you weep?
- 5:49Why don't you eat? Why is your heart grieved?
- 5:52Am I not better to you than ten sons?
- 5:54So Hannah rose up after they had finished eating and drinking in
- 5:57Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting
- 6:00on his seat by the doorpost of Yahweh's temple.
- 6:04She was in bitterness of soul and prayed to Yahweh.
- 6:07Weeping bitterly, she vowed A vow and said, Yahweh of armies,
- 6:12if you will indeed look at the affliction of your servant, and
- 6:14Remember Me, and not forget your servant, but will give to your
- 6:18servant a boy, then I will give him to Yahweh all the days of
- 6:22his life, and no razor shall come on his head.
- 6:25As she continued praying before Yahweh, Eli saw her mouth.
- 6:29Now Hannah spoke in her heart only her lips moved, but her
- 6:33voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was
- 6:36drunk. Eli said to her, How long will
- 6:38you be drunk? Get rid of your wine.
- 6:41Hannah answered. No my Lord, I am a woman of a
- 6:44sorrowful spirit. I have not been drinking wine or
- 6:47strong drink, but I poured out my soul before Yahweh.
- 6:51Don't consider your servant a wicked woman, for I have been
- 6:54speaking out of the abundance of my complaint and my provocation.
- 6:58Then Eli answered, Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant
- 7:03your petition that you have asked of him.
- 7:05She said, Let your servant find favor in your sight.
- 7:09So the woman went her way and ate, and her facial expression
- 7:13wasn't sad anymore. They rose up in the morning
- 7:16early and worshipped Yahweh, then returned and came to their
- 7:20house to Rama, then Elkin and knew Hannah his wife, and Yahweh
- 7:24remembered her. When the time had come, Hannah
- 7:27conceived and bore a son, and she named him Samuel, saying,
- 7:31Because I have asked him of Yahweh.
- 7:33The man Elkanah and all his house went up to offer to Yahweh
- 7:37the yearly sacrifice and his vow.
- 7:41But Hannah didn't go up, for she said to her husband, not until
- 7:44the child is weaned, then I will bring him, that he may appear
- 7:47before Yahweh and stay there forever.
- 7:50Elkanah her husband said to her, Do what seems good to you, wait
- 7:55until you have weaned him only. May Yahweh establish his word.
- 7:59So the woman waited and nursed her son until she weaned him.
- 8:03When she had weaned him, she took him up with her with three
- 8:06bowls and 1E for of meal and a container of wine and brought
- 8:10him to Yahweh's house in Shiloh. The child was young.
- 8:14They killed the bull and brought the child to Eli.
- 8:17She said, Oh my Lord, as your soul lives, my Lord, I am the
- 8:21woman who stood by you here praying to Yahweh.
- 8:25I prayed for this child and Yahweh has given me my petition
- 8:28which I asked of him. Therefore I have also given him
- 8:31to Yahweh. As long as he lives, he is given
- 8:33to Yahweh. He worshipped Yahweh there.
- 8:37Hannah prayed and said, My heart exalts in Yahweh, My horn is
- 8:41exalted in Yahweh. My mouth is enlarged over my
- 8:44enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation.
- 8:48There is no one as holy as Yahweh, for there is no one
- 8:51besides you, nor is there any rock like our God.
- 8:54Don't keep talking so exceedingly proudly.
- 8:58Don't let arrogance come out of your mouth, for Yahweh is a God
- 9:01of knowledge. By Him actions are weighed.
- 9:04The bows of the mighty men are broken.
- 9:06Those who stumbled are armed with strength.
- 9:09Those who were full of hired themselves out for bread.
- 9:12Those who are hungry are satisfied.
- 9:14Yes, the Baron has borne 7. She who has many children
- 9:18languishes. Yahweh kills and makes alive.
- 9:22He brings down to she all and brings up.
- 9:24Yahweh makes poor and makes rich.
- 9:26He brings low. He also lifts up.
- 9:28He raises up the poor out of the dust.
- 9:31He lifts up the needy from the dunghill to make them sit with
- 9:34Princess and inherit the throne of glory.
- 9:37For the pillars of the earth are Yahweh's.
- 9:40He has set the world on them. He will keep the feet of His
- 9:43holy ones, but the wicked will be put to silence in darkness.
- 9:47For no man will prevail by strength.
- 9:50Those who strive with Yahweh shall be broken to pieces.
- 9:54He will Thunder against them in the sky.
- 9:56Yahweh will judge the ends of the earth.
- 9:58He will give strength to his king and exalt the horn of his
- 10:01anointed. Elkanah went to Rama, to his
- 10:04house. The child served Yahweh before
- 10:07Eli the priest. Now the sons of Eli were wicked
- 10:10men. They didn't know Yahweh.
- 10:13The custom of the priests with the people was that when anyone
- 10:16offered a sacrifice, the priest's servant came while the
- 10:19meat was boiling with a fork of three teeth in his hand, and he
- 10:23stabbed it into the pan or kettle or cauldron or pot.
- 10:28The priest took all that the fork brought up for himself.
- 10:31They did this to all the Israelites who came there to
- 10:33Shiloh. Yes, before they burn the fat,
- 10:37the priest's servant came and said to the man who sacrificed,
- 10:41Give meat to roast for the priest, for he will not accept
- 10:44boiled meat from you, but raw. If the man said to him, let the
- 10:48fat be burned 1st, and then take as much as your soul desires,
- 10:52then he would say no, but you shall give it to me now, and if
- 10:55not, I will take it by force. The sin of the young men was
- 11:00very great before Yahweh, for the men despised Yahweh's
- 11:04offering. But Samuel ministered before
- 11:07Yahweh, being a child clothed with a linen ephod.
- 11:11Moreover, his mother made him a little robe and brought it to
- 11:14him from year to year. When she came up with her
- 11:16husband to offer the yearly sacrifice, Eli blessed Elkanah
- 11:21and his wife and said, May Yahweh give you offspring from
- 11:25this woman for the petition which was asked of Yahweh.
- 11:28Then they went to their own home.
- 11:30Yahweh visited Hannah, and she conceived and bore three sons
- 11:34and two daughters. The child Samuel grew before
- 11:37Yahweh. Now Eli was very old, and he
- 11:41heard all that his sons did to all Israel, and how that they
- 11:44slept with the women who served at the door of the tent of
- 11:47meeting. He said to them, Why do you do
- 11:50such things? For I hear of your evil dealings
- 11:52from all these people. No, my sons, for it is not a
- 11:56good report that I hear. You make Yahweh's people
- 11:58disobey. If one man sins against another,
- 12:02God will judge him. But if a man sins against
- 12:05Yahweh, who will intercede for him?
- 12:07Notwithstanding, they didn't listen to the voice of their
- 12:10father, because Yahweh intended to kill them.
- 12:15The child Samuel grew on and increased in favor both with
- 12:18Yahweh and also with men. A man of God came to Eli and
- 12:23said to him, Yahweh says, Did I reveal myself to the House of
- 12:27your father when they were in Egypt in bondage to Pharaoh's
- 12:29house? Didn't I choose him out of all
- 12:32the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to
- 12:36burn incense, to wear an ephod before me?
- 12:40Didn't I give to the House of your father all the offerings of
- 12:43the children of Israel made by fire?
- 12:46Why do you kick at my sacrifice and at my offering which I have
- 12:50commanded in my habitation, and honor your sons above me to make
- 12:55yourselves fat with the best of all the offerings of Israel, My
- 12:57people. Therefore Yahweh, the God of
- 13:00Israel, says, I said indeed that your house and the House of your
- 13:04Father should walk before me forever.
- 13:07But now Yahweh says, far be it from me, for those who honor me
- 13:11I will honor, and those who despise me will be cursed.
- 13:16Behold the days come that I will cut off your arm and the arm of
- 13:19your father's house, that there will not be an old man in your
- 13:22house. You will see the affliction of
- 13:25my habitation in all the wealth which I will give Israel.
- 13:29There shall not be an old man in your house forever.
- 13:32The man of yours whom I don't cut off from my altar will
- 13:35consume your eyes and grieve your heart.
- 13:38All the increase of your house will die in the flower of their
- 13:41age. This will be the sign to you
- 13:43that will come on your two sons on Hoffney and Feinhas.
- 13:47In one day they will both die. I will raise up a faithful
- 13:51priest for myself who will do according to that which is in my
- 13:54heart and in my mind. I will build him a sure house.
- 13:58He will walk before my anointed forever.
- 14:02It will happen that everyone who is left in your house will come
- 14:04and bow down to him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread,
- 14:08and will say, Please put me into one of the priests offices that
- 14:13I may eat a morsel of bread. Thanks for joining us on Bible
