- 00:00:06:27 - 00:00:09:24 Courtney I'm MAK and I'm Courtney. Welcome back to two MC. 00:00:09:26 - 00:00:12:15 MAK I am glad to be in the studio today. 00:00:12:17 - 00:00:14:19 Courtney I feel like you always are glad to be in the studio. 00:00:14:21 - 00:00:15:22 MAK I like it ear. 00:00:15:24 - 00:00:16:19 Courtney Yeah. Me too. 00:00:16:19 - 00:00:19:27 MAK And you know what? We're talking budget. 00:00:19:28 - 00:00:30:20 Courtney We're talking the dollars. Yeah. Yeah. So we had a budget workshop July 13th and the budgets not, you know, it takes some time to put. 00:00:30:21 - 00:00:39:00 MAK It actually is an entire year long process because they start in December with the CIP and then it just moves forward through there. 00:00:39:01 - 00:00:41:29 Courtney I try to avoid my own budget. 00:00:42:02 - 00:00:43:15 MAK Yeah, I don't like the numbers thing. 00:00:43:15 - 00:00:48:08 Courtney But we have staff that are very good at the incredible. 00:00:48:12 - 00:01:02:22 MAK Yes. Our Office of Management budget. They're actually really great to work with because one they take our calls. That's good. Okay. Maybe one, they're really good at their job too. They take our calls, but they really work with staff and explain. 00:01:02:22 - 00:01:11:01 Courtney It well. And the knowledge that they have on all of it is just amazing. Yeah. Somebody even say, I don't know, their award winning. 00:01:11:03 - 00:01:13:05 MAK Yes they are. 00:01:13:07 - 00:01:21:18 Courtney I know. Yeah. So we're going to kind of talk about just the budget. Budget at a glance. Go through how the process works. 00:01:21:20 - 00:01:31:03 MAK Yep. So it was a workshop on Monday. And then that's where they set the tentative millage rate. Yes. And that really. 00:01:31:04 - 00:01:33:24 Courtney They kept it flat. There's no change. 00:01:33:27 - 00:01:34:28 MAK There was no change. 00:01:34:29 - 00:01:35:10 Courtney Yes. 00:01:35:10 - 00:01:36:05 MAK There was no change. 00:01:36:06 - 00:01:37:01 Courtney Yeah. No change. 00:01:37:03 - 00:01:37:15 MAK Yes. 00:01:37:16 - 00:01:48:12 Courtney And the focus of the budget, the primary focuses are to maintain existing levels of service. Yeah. Major investments. 00:01:48:14 - 00:01:49:23 MAK Public safety. 00:01:50:00 - 00:01:53:12 Courtney Infrastructure and asset management. 00:01:53:14 - 00:01:55:27 MAK Say it again. 00:01:56:00 - 00:01:59:14 Courtney Maintenance. I want to say management. I think it could be both. 00:01:59:18 - 00:02:14:09 MAK Well, if your main. You're also managing. That's true. Okay, I'll give you that one. I'll give you that. And then for our fiscal strategy, operational efficiencies really cost controls process improvement. So it's all about efficiency. 00:02:14:10 - 00:02:19:24 Courtney Yeah. And then long term planning. So we have a very strong reserve account. 00:02:19:25 - 00:02:25:14 MAK We do. Commissioner Capps was talking about that specifically and asking some more questions about it. And then really interesting. 00:02:25:14 - 00:02:31:29 Courtney We do take a more proactive approach versus a reactive with our infrastructure maintenance. 00:02:31:29 - 00:02:33:01 MAK Which is always good. 00:02:33:01 - 00:02:40:09 Courtney Always good. Yeah. You don't want to fix something after it's broken. You'd rather do it before it breaks. 00:02:40:11 - 00:02:43:26 MAK We wouldn't be fixing it before it broke. 00:02:43:28 - 00:02:48:08 Courtney You mean maintaining it? Yes. Gotcha. 00:02:48:09 - 00:02:49:06 MAK That's it. 00:02:49:08 - 00:02:50:00 Courtney So. 00:02:50:03 - 00:03:12:12 MAK And one of the cool things that I think our budget department does is they take a dollar bill. It just makes it very visually easy to see where that ad valorem, where your tax dollars are going, how they support, how they support the services. Right. So we're going to put that in there. Right. Yeah. Maybe even William will put a picture of it on there. 00:03:12:14 - 00:03:16:13 MAK What do you think. Maybe it's a very colorful colorful dollar. 00:03:16:16 - 00:03:22:25 Courtney Yeah. And so it says that 66, 66% of our goes to public safety. 00:03:22:26 - 00:03:27:24 MAK And that's sheriff and, you know, fire rescue, emergency management. That whole bucket. 00:03:27:26 - 00:03:30:29 Courtney Yes. 24% goes to general government. 00:03:31:00 - 00:03:33:22 MAK 7%. Roads and stormwater. 00:03:33:22 - 00:03:34:21 Courtney And environmental. 00:03:34:27 - 00:03:35:22 MAK And environmental. 00:03:35:22 - 00:03:42:22 Courtney And 3% is culture and recreation. And another little. 00:03:42:24 - 00:03:54:13 MAK Oh, yes. Because we've talked about this before, and I think we've had a lot of these folks on the pod. Yeah. Airport utilities and building services. 00:03:54:14 - 00:03:55:00 Courtney Yes. 00:03:55:01 - 00:03:56:21 MAK They're all enterprise funds. 00:03:56:26 - 00:03:59:21 Courtney That's right. And I wanted to say. 00:03:59:27 - 00:04:03:05 MAK What does that mean? 00:04:03:08 - 00:04:08:24 Courtney That they generate fees from users and that's how they pay for this. 00:04:08:27 - 00:04:10:28 MAK Ding ding ding ding ding. 00:04:11:00 - 00:04:18:07 Courtney Sometimes I know things. You know, the budget also helps fund the constitutional officers and the 19th judicial circuit. 00:04:18:15 - 00:04:20:20 MAK That is correct. Yeah. Thanks for that. 00:04:20:22 - 00:04:23:08 Courtney Of course. And then. 00:04:23:11 - 00:04:28:08 MAK So that's not like the budgets not finished. It's not over. 00:04:28:11 - 00:04:31:11 Courtney No. There are much more next steps. 00:04:31:13 - 00:04:38:25 MAK Much more great. I don't think there are many more steps, but there are a few. Yeah. Right. So we set the the millage rate. 00:04:38:26 - 00:04:41:05 Courtney Yes. And so that goes. 00:04:41:08 - 00:04:43:02 MAK To Jenny. Property appraisers office. 00:04:43:03 - 00:04:48:21 Courtney It does. And then she sends out the trim notices to property owners around early August. 00:04:48:21 - 00:04:52:20 MAK And our trim notices are your truth in millage. Yes. Right. 00:04:52:21 - 00:04:55:13 Courtney Yeah. Agreed. And then let's. 00:04:55:13 - 00:04:55:22 MAK Drop. 00:04:55:22 - 00:05:02:20 Courtney A link. Okay, well, drop a link in the show notes. Yes. There's a good little explainer of how to read your trim notice. 00:05:02:22 - 00:05:17:27 MAK Yes. Because there's a lot of stuff on there. It's not just, taxes for the county. It's stuff that it's like school district and find. Yeah. Which is Florida inland navigational district. Yeah. Different stuff on there. 00:05:17:28 - 00:05:22:16 Courtney Yeah. So then there will be a first budget public hearing, which will be September 15th. 00:05:22:17 - 00:05:23:20 MAK 5:05 p.m.. 00:05:23:20 - 00:05:36:22 Courtney 5:05 p.m.. And then the second public hearing will be September 29th. 5:05 p.m.. Right. And that September 29th meeting is when that's that budget is adopted. 00:05:36:28 - 00:05:51:29 MAK Yes. Yeah. Because our budget year, our fiscal year is October 1st through September 30th. Yes. Right. So we do our budget hearings in September and then October when we start that new fiscal year. Yeah. 00:05:52:00 - 00:05:55:27 Courtney And then we do have a board meeting coming up. It'll be July 28th. 00:05:56:01 - 00:05:57:24 MAK I can't believe it's end of July already. 00:05:57:25 - 00:06:17:10 Courtney I know it's coming up so fast. And we have some events down in the show notes that you guys can check out. And thank you so much for joining us. Don't forget to like, subscribe, follow, share, comment. Are there anything else?
