Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Head books. Welcome went to the Irish Sitters podcast, the
- 0:07Speaker 1: podcast for Irish Pittsburgh Staters fans. Well the season is
- 0:13Speaker 1: the season has come to an end after m unfortunately
- 0:16Speaker 1: thought exit in the NFL Wildcard run, a super wold
- 0:19Speaker 1: Card run. And you know what, before we get these
- 0:22Speaker 1: guys into it, you know, Steelers meant to plans on
- 0:26Speaker 1: the end of the plane of Monday. That felt like
- 0:27Speaker 1: an extended aegin, which was nice apart from the result.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Michael mcquid, Jimmy English, Dave McKee, Jimmy first off, before
- 0:35Speaker 1: we talk with the game, weird having a Monday night game,
- 0:37Speaker 1: wasn't it was weird? It was nice, like you know, not.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Yeah, it was nice being able to watch a Monday
- 0:43Speaker 2: night game at a reasonable hour. Unlike yourself, I don't
- 0:46Speaker 2: have the capacity to stay up until super o'clock in
- 0:49Speaker 2: the morning watching football on a Monday night make But no,
- 0:52Speaker 2: it was great. Like you said, it was a nice
- 0:54Speaker 2: little extension of the weekend, and.
- 0:58Speaker 3: It was.
- 0:58Speaker 2: It was a welcome change be able to watch Steelers
- 1:00Speaker 2: football on a Monday night as opposed to Sunday night.
- 1:04Speaker 2: So it was it was a great way to start
- 1:05Speaker 2: the week. Despite the result. But sure, look, we were
- 1:08Speaker 2: playing we were playing bonus football at that stage. I mean,
- 1:10Speaker 2: we had no expectations of making it to the playoffs,
- 1:14Speaker 2: never mind winning a playoff game. And I think regardless
- 1:17Speaker 2: of how well the team played in the past couple
- 1:20Speaker 2: of weeks, going into Buffalo in those conditions and playing
- 1:24Speaker 2: against Josh Allen the way he's been playing recently, look,
- 1:27Speaker 2: it would have been a miracle if we had gotten
- 1:29Speaker 2: any other results except what happened last night. So I
- 1:32Speaker 2: think we should just take the positives, such as they are,
- 1:35Speaker 2: from the season and start looking at the twenty twenty five.
- 1:40Speaker 2: For the twenty four season.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Here, it'll be funny one if I before you know,
- 1:44Speaker 1: am it feels like this whole that this over year
- 1:46Speaker 1: is flowing in, which is which is crazy because I
- 1:48Speaker 1: remember we were like almost grasping the topics in a
- 1:51Speaker 1: positive way whenever we were looking at the preseason and
- 1:54Speaker 1: that that seems like five minutes ago, which is awesome.
- 1:56Speaker 1: It's just flowing, and I always get that sad. I
- 1:59Speaker 1: guess when we get to the end. I seen your
- 2:01Speaker 1: your hype video, Jimmy. I was bouncing around on Monday
- 2:05Speaker 1: watching it, and it was great. To see some many
- 2:07Speaker 1: people with the here we go print outs. I had
- 2:10Speaker 1: the whole guy the old printer printed out, didn't have
- 2:12Speaker 1: any colored ink left, but sure done the same job.
- 2:15Speaker 1: De is for people that can't see right now, the
- 2:17Speaker 1: man you're wearing a Staters hat. You're still openly you know,
- 2:22Speaker 1: patriotic and buzzing. Twenty four hours on. Are you disappointed
- 2:27Speaker 1: or what's the current fault?
- 2:29Speaker 4: Of course I'm disappointed, like maybe Warren Staters. It's more
- 2:33Speaker 4: just the hide my bad herline. But now I'm joking.
- 2:37Speaker 4: Of course. Look, we're disappointed, just as as Jimmy said,
- 2:40Speaker 4: you know we're But at the same time we do
- 2:42Speaker 4: have a lot of reasons to be proud. You know,
- 2:45Speaker 4: to go into Buffalo, one of the hardest places in
- 2:47Speaker 4: the NFL, you know, to win minus our best player,
- 2:50Speaker 4: and I have it narrowed down to a one score
- 2:52Speaker 4: game with what was at six seven minutes left the
- 2:54Speaker 4: fourth quarter. It's really something to think about. At least
- 2:58Speaker 4: we sort of shot ourselves in the foot earlier on,
- 3:00Speaker 4: you know, with the fumbles, probably lucky to get away
- 3:03Speaker 4: with a fararmouth one as well as you know, the
- 3:05Speaker 4: interception in the end zone. I mean you come away.
- 3:07Speaker 4: You have to come away with points on that drive,
- 3:09Speaker 4: and to not do that, you know you can do
- 3:12Speaker 4: that against Cincinnati and Baltimore's backups, You're always going to
- 3:15Speaker 4: have another chance. Against the best teams in this league,
- 3:17Speaker 4: you're just not going to get them chances. So before
- 3:20Speaker 4: you know they're they're fourteen twenty one points ahead of
- 3:22Speaker 4: you three scores, and it's just too long in the playoffs.
- 3:25Speaker 4: So as well as that, you know a few questionable
- 3:28Speaker 4: decisions you know by the referees on the night. Look,
- 3:30Speaker 4: I'm not going to sit here and blame the referee
- 3:32Speaker 4: and say it's the reason we lost. It's not. But
- 3:34Speaker 4: you know, you know the maux jack hits on Josh Allen,
- 3:37Speaker 4: it's not a dangerous one. I can understand why through
- 3:40Speaker 4: the flag, but it's it's realistically, it's not dangerous. So
- 3:43Speaker 4: it's just a bit of a kick in the teeth.
- 3:46Speaker 4: That's not even the one I'm really angry about. The
- 3:47Speaker 4: one more one is the head and Joey Porter Junior
- 3:50Speaker 4: by one of the bells over Lineland. I just don't
- 3:52Speaker 4: know how the referees don't see it. So again, I'm
- 3:55Speaker 4: not going to sit here and use it as an excuse.
- 3:57Speaker 4: But at the same time, when you're playing against the Bills,
- 4:00Speaker 4: helping it doesn't help. You know, you need you need
- 4:02Speaker 4: your look and we just didn't have it by the officials.
- 4:05Speaker 4: So I'm not going to sit here and blame them,
- 4:07Speaker 4: but you know, you need you know, you need your
- 4:09Speaker 4: first share luck and the you know that. At the
- 4:11Speaker 4: same time, you know, we'll just have to sort of
- 4:13Speaker 4: knuckle down, as Jimmy said, at the same time, we
- 4:16Speaker 4: have to realize we have to be honest as well.
- 4:18Speaker 4: We're not at that level to go on one on
- 4:20Speaker 4: one against the legs of Buffalo. Can't say in at
- 4:23Speaker 4: the minute, we're just not. So as I said, we're
- 4:25Speaker 4: going to take a good time to reflect in the
- 4:27Speaker 4: off season. You know, we're gonna have to look at
- 4:29Speaker 4: you know, personnel way if it's going to be changes there,
- 4:33Speaker 4: who knows. But going forward, we're going to have a good, long,
- 4:37Speaker 4: hard look at and thinking of ourselves and the I
- 4:39Speaker 4: believe hopefully it comes top Tamber's time, we're ready to
- 4:43Speaker 4: go again. So I haven't lost all fief. You know,
- 4:46Speaker 4: people are sort of beating themselves up on Twitter all
- 4:48Speaker 4: day and I'm knocking that Baggin. You know, we got
- 4:50Speaker 4: our dust, ourselves down and and just take a look
- 4:51Speaker 4: at long hard look in the mirror.
- 4:54Speaker 2: It was hard. It was hard though day last night
- 4:56Speaker 2: because they were they run it, they score a three touchdowns.
- 4:59Speaker 2: We texting like god, but this, this is this, that's it.
- 5:03Speaker 2: And then Deanta Johnson scored that touchdown and we're like, oh,
- 5:06Speaker 2: hold on a second, hang on now, and I like,
- 5:09Speaker 2: I started to believe again. And I think that's what
- 5:10Speaker 2: makes it hurt even more, is that I actually I
- 5:12Speaker 2: had faith, you know, towards the middle and the end
- 5:15Speaker 2: of that game, and then looks possibly mistakes and I
- 5:20Speaker 2: mean obviously key areas were depleted. It completely stripped down
- 5:23Speaker 2: inside linebacker and that was so evident against the run
- 5:26Speaker 2: and even in coverage and the tight ends last night,
- 5:29Speaker 2: and as you know, safety as well, so thin as safety,
- 5:32Speaker 2: and thank god we have mink I Fitzpatrick back. Otherwise
- 5:35Speaker 2: it could have been a lot lot worse, I think,
- 5:37Speaker 2: because if you're down TJ and Minka would have been
- 5:40Speaker 2: a complete disaster. So yeah, look, it is, it is
- 5:45Speaker 2: what it is.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Just one of them Miles Jack moments. We've had the
- 5:49Speaker 1: real positive I guess for a lot of people to
- 5:52Speaker 1: be one of the biggest positive this year. The Staders
- 5:54Speaker 1: have been on the sky Sports so many times, at
- 5:56Speaker 1: least nine times this year. Out of you a teaen
- 5:59Speaker 1: nineteen weeks and I'm not sure if you guys would
- 6:01Speaker 1: watch it, but did you both see nhamlung Sus sort
- 6:05Speaker 1: of comments on that. He thought it was a very
- 6:06Speaker 1: soft sort of penalty to give away. He thought that
- 6:11Speaker 1: there was a wrong decision made that he thought that
- 6:13Speaker 1: the game should have been played on and going on that.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Like for me, there was still at that point in
- 6:17Speaker 1: the game, there was still the optimism up stop them,
- 6:20Speaker 1: get the ball back up the fielding look, I was
- 6:23Speaker 1: definitely in the coord of when they go to or
- 6:26Speaker 1: three scores up your finger, it's gonna be very difficult here.
- 6:28Speaker 1: But Jimmy, you said it yourself there as well. There
- 6:30Speaker 1: was a moment where going hold on here, if they
- 6:34Speaker 1: can get it back again, they've got a chance. Because
- 6:35Speaker 1: Mason toys been a little bit, he definitely can connect
- 6:38Speaker 1: a lot more in the second half and looked a
- 6:40Speaker 1: lot more confident. I thought that was a very very
- 6:42Speaker 1: soft flag personally, very soft.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I think there was a couple of critical moments
- 6:48Speaker 2: in that game last night, Mickfash, we're pivotal. I mean,
- 6:52Speaker 2: in terms of negatives. That hit the flag of Miles Jack,
- 6:56Speaker 2: that's such a high one. And I think they're gonna
- 6:58Speaker 2: call lash. With the focus on quarterback safety and player
- 7:01Speaker 2: safety in general, any sort of contact that seemed to
- 7:04Speaker 2: be late or high or dangerous, they're good, they're gonna
- 7:07Speaker 2: flag it. And I have to agree with Dave as well.
- 7:09Speaker 2: They were a couple of questiona because and there was
- 7:12Speaker 2: there was a hole the defensive hold and missed on
- 7:14Speaker 2: the Anton Johnson towards the latter stages of the game
- 7:17Speaker 2: where the defender had had his arm around his waist.
- 7:20Speaker 2: I mean that should have been called by all by
- 7:22Speaker 2: all means, you know. But well we also got away
- 7:24Speaker 2: with a couple of we we've got it. We definitely
- 7:26Speaker 2: got away with it with a Miles Jack could have
- 7:28Speaker 2: been past interference that was only given as a defensive holding.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Surely costs us five yards instead of fifteen. So I
- 7:35Speaker 2: mean it's ebbs and flows like like Dave reference earlier
- 7:38Speaker 2: on that fire mood from but he was not out
- 7:41Speaker 2: of bounds, that ball was live. Let's be honest here.
- 7:43Speaker 2: So we we got away with that one, so you know,
- 7:47Speaker 2: it swings aroundabouts. But for me, then there was a
- 7:50Speaker 2: couple of key things that that that game hinged on.
- 7:52Speaker 2: I mean that the block of the punt. I mean
- 7:54Speaker 2: that's something we see been do before this season, is
- 7:57Speaker 2: something we've seen them score off. I mean that was massive,
- 7:59Speaker 2: but I think we should capitalize more on that. And
- 8:03Speaker 2: you just just look, it was just a game of
- 8:05Speaker 2: big moments. It was a couple of massive miss tackles.
- 8:07Speaker 2: I mean that run on that run where where where
- 8:12Speaker 2: Josh Allen scored? I mean the fifty two yard touchdown
- 8:15Speaker 2: run second long, second longest QB rushing touchdown in playoff history.
- 8:19Speaker 2: I mean, he can't have plays like that and expect
- 8:22Speaker 2: to have a chance to win. You just you know
- 8:24Speaker 2: if you if you let Josh Allen do that to you,
- 8:27Speaker 2: you're going to have a long night.
- 8:28Speaker 3: So a luck.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I mean, like I said, we dared to believe when
- 8:31Speaker 2: when they started coming back, it was just it was
- 8:33Speaker 2: just too much for us overall.
- 8:35Speaker 4: I think, And yet just I'll jump jump on the
- 8:37Speaker 4: name as well. We also need a shout out Mason Rudolph.
- 8:40Speaker 4: I mean he's played obvioustely out of his skin for
- 8:42Speaker 4: the past couple of weeks. And albeit you know, I
- 8:44Speaker 4: think there was a couple of injuries to the inside
- 8:46Speaker 4: linebackers on the Bills. You know, I think Tony Romo
- 8:49Speaker 4: and jim Nuts were very they're very favorable more more
- 8:53Speaker 4: less saying like other target and I think I can't
- 8:55Speaker 4: remember the player's name, but and he was. We were
- 8:58Speaker 4: very good and actually exposing that and or defense. But
- 9:01Speaker 4: as you say, like, it's just one of those things
- 9:03Speaker 4: where Josh Allen can play for sixteen minutes straight and
- 9:06Speaker 4: if you can't match it, then if you can't match
- 9:08Speaker 4: the other team's quarterback, then it's it's gonna be difficult.
- 9:11Speaker 4: And unfortunately, just we we came out in the wrong end.
- 9:13Speaker 4: But it'd be interesting to see what happens with miss
- 9:15Speaker 4: And you know, obviously with his contract up and stuff,
- 9:18Speaker 4: and he wasn't getting drawn in that before the game.
- 9:20Speaker 4: But you know, it's just one of those things where
- 9:23Speaker 4: he's done absolutely everything he could have possibly done the
- 9:25Speaker 4: end of the season and we just have to obviously
- 9:27Speaker 4: say thanks, thanks very much for for doing that for us.
- 9:30Speaker 4: You know, as we said a couple of weeksgo, Jimmy
- 9:32Speaker 4: said it we barely even thought we'd be in this
- 9:33Speaker 4: position and we are. And obviously we took our unlucky
- 9:36Speaker 4: bounces with PJ being out and stuff. So it's one
- 9:39Speaker 4: of those things where we'll we'll dust ourselve downs and
- 9:41Speaker 4: we'll have to wait and see.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Ez definitely missed obviously last night, and you're right, and
- 9:47Speaker 1: you're edgment what you're saying. I mean Dave going on
- 9:49Speaker 1: the whole conversation, but missing movie. Love for him to
- 9:51Speaker 1: sort of come in and really to take take charge
- 9:53Speaker 1: of this team offensively, where the last two weeks has
- 9:55Speaker 1: been really cool to see. But Lucky didn't have a
- 9:58Speaker 1: great first off, but he really turned the run the
- 9:59Speaker 1: second off. And look, a lot of a lot of
- 10:01Speaker 1: people did not give, especially locally, a lot of people
- 10:04Speaker 1: didn't give the seats Johns against the Bills, and I
- 10:06Speaker 1: think a few people were shut up last night, to
- 10:08Speaker 1: be honest, because I think people expected them right and
- 10:10Speaker 1: that did not happen at all. There was a point
- 10:12Speaker 1: where the theaters were not that far off and I
- 10:15Speaker 1: guess more more average sort of consistency there, and we'll
- 10:17Speaker 1: sort of see that going forward and hopefully and wet
- 10:21Speaker 1: to see that next step being taken in twenty twenty four.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Let's look at the standard and consistency, and he from
- 10:27Speaker 1: coach Mike Thumblin, and here exactly his faults on the game.
- 10:31Speaker 5: You know, I compliment coach McDermott and the Buffalo Bills
- 10:34Speaker 5: for victory and the Hartford game. You know, I appreciate
- 10:40Speaker 5: the efforts of our guys in there. I just told
- 10:42Speaker 5: them that. But efforts don't get it done. So let's
- 10:46Speaker 5: talk tangibly about why we weren't successful. You know, we
- 10:51Speaker 5: spotted them early in the football game via the turnovers.
- 10:56Speaker 5: Can't come into an environment like this versus a playoff
- 10:58Speaker 5: caliber team and and turn the ball over like that
- 11:01Speaker 5: and expect to be competitive. Man, we spotted them. We
- 11:06Speaker 5: fought back in it over the course of the game.
- 11:11Speaker 5: We cut it to seven and was excited about that.
- 11:16Speaker 5: Then we gave up a touchdown drive. When you get
- 11:18Speaker 5: a major penalty within a drive on defense, that's usually
- 11:21Speaker 5: going to produce points. And that was the case, and
- 11:25Speaker 5: they put him back up by fourteen. And the rest
- 11:27Speaker 5: is academic, and so I'm appreciative of the efforts, but
- 11:33Speaker 5: it's not mystical. We didn't do what was required to win.
- 11:36Speaker 3: The night.
- 11:37Speaker 5: We didn't take care of the ball. We didn't get
- 11:38Speaker 5: it get the ball from them enough in an environment
- 11:41Speaker 5: like this, and thus the score. Had a couple of
- 11:45Speaker 5: injuries Joey Porter, Alan Robinson or in the concussion protocol
- 11:50Speaker 5: Pat Froyermuf had an ankle, had limited availability there towards
- 11:54Speaker 5: the end of the game.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Questions like that.
- 11:58Speaker 6: Second turnover and Josh was fifty two yards on I scramble.
- 12:02Speaker 3: I know that one was really hurtful.
- 12:04Speaker 5: No question, But we talked about quarterback mobility and what
- 12:07Speaker 5: he and they are capable of, and probably not the
- 12:12Speaker 5: story of the game was the mobility, but the turnover component.
- 12:16Speaker 3: You know, got to do better to get a consistent rally.
- 12:23Speaker 5: As their efforts, they did a really good job of
- 12:27Speaker 5: packing the line of scrimmage and you know, forcing us
- 12:30Speaker 5: to throw the ball more vertically, probably a little bit
- 12:33Speaker 5: more vertically than we wanted to. We adjusted, we started
- 12:36Speaker 5: doing that and we started moving to football.
- 12:39Speaker 3: So credit to them. What did they do any.
- 12:42Speaker 6: Different with their trade ends or did put your ID
- 12:44Speaker 6: plan does not work for you?
- 12:46Speaker 5: You know, we've had our issues with tight end matchups
- 12:48Speaker 5: over the second half of the year. We adjusted in game,
- 12:52Speaker 5: but they made some plays definitively early on.
- 12:54Speaker 3: How much did you feel the loss of that out
- 12:56Speaker 3: of DJ.
- 12:57Speaker 1: White out there?
- 12:58Speaker 5: You know, I didn't think about it, to be quite
- 13:00Speaker 5: honest with you. We knew all week he wasn't playing,
- 13:01Speaker 5: and so we prepare with that mindset, and so I
- 13:04Speaker 5: didn't waste any time thinking about what wasn't at our disposal.
- 13:08Speaker 5: We had too much at our disposal and too many
- 13:11Speaker 5: decisions and considerations to be made to waste time like that.
- 13:14Speaker 3: How do you think from that interception?
- 13:17Speaker 5: I thought he was solid. I thought he was competitive.
- 13:19Speaker 5: I thought his confidence was unshakable. I thought he, you know,
- 13:22Speaker 5: displayed the things that he displayed really for the last
- 13:25Speaker 5: month or so.
- 13:29Speaker 1: That was coach Mike Tomlin speaking after the Staters dropped
- 13:33Speaker 1: out all the twenty twenty four NFL playoffs of we
- 13:35Speaker 1: lost in the Super Waild card matchup at high Mark
- 13:38Speaker 1: Stadium against the Buffalo Bills. We're gonna hear from two
- 13:41Speaker 1: players before we look back, Renaissance on the year we'll
- 13:46Speaker 1: here from missing Rudolph on comeron Haward on the Irishitis podcast.
- 13:52Speaker 6: Anytime you're on the road and playing a good team,
- 13:55Speaker 6: and that's as explosive as they are. You want to
- 13:59Speaker 6: try to, you know, have a fast start, and we didn't.
- 14:01Speaker 6: And uh, you know we knew being on the road
- 14:07Speaker 6: you gotta come out and you know, keep it close early,
- 14:10Speaker 6: and we didn't. But you know, it's probably the way
- 14:13Speaker 6: we fought back there at the end and never never
- 14:15Speaker 6: stopped believing and put you know, one stack. We try
- 14:19Speaker 6: to stack one good play on top of another makes
- 14:22Speaker 6: it inter.
- 14:22Speaker 7: Central pile on throat out and you see that play
- 14:24Speaker 7: play it was.
- 14:26Speaker 6: It was a great play by the defender. Kind of
- 14:29Speaker 6: a timing deal. I thought he covered tape well out
- 14:32Speaker 6: of his break. I mean he he was in his
- 14:35Speaker 6: low hip. He just the little average was a little off.
- 14:39Speaker 6: I just got to put that ball much more outside
- 14:41Speaker 6: us or nobody. But like I said, he made a
- 14:44Speaker 6: great play to score at the end.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Of the first out.
- 14:47Speaker 6: You know, if they have stocked it, you know, don't
- 14:50Speaker 6: started to make that point.
- 14:51Speaker 3: Okay, things a parer the ebreak and they can absolutely
- 14:54Speaker 3: you know.
- 14:54Speaker 6: I was the score, like you said, at the end
- 14:58Speaker 6: of the half was bad to keep us, keep us
- 14:59Speaker 6: in it. And and then then the field goal and the
- 15:02Speaker 6: touchdown and cut it to seven. So like I said,
- 15:05Speaker 6: I was. I was proud of the way I mean
- 15:08Speaker 6: everyone on in the in the and on the offense
- 15:10Speaker 6: side of the ball, you know, defense that did did
- 15:13Speaker 6: a good job too.
- 15:14Speaker 3: But I know what our guys uh never stopped believing and.
- 15:19Speaker 6: Stayed in it mentally and encouraged each other and tried
- 15:22Speaker 6: to you know, put some points on the board.
- 15:25Speaker 4: He left the show something over the last four weeks.
- 15:29Speaker 6: Something you shown something over the last four weeks show
- 15:33Speaker 6: NFL for Sorry, Yeah, I think, you know, when I
- 15:38Speaker 6: go back and look at the totality of the tape,
- 15:40Speaker 6: I'll get a better feel for it.
- 15:41Speaker 3: But I'm I.
- 15:43Speaker 6: Think I think right now, obviously the plan was to
- 15:48Speaker 6: come here and get away, and we fell short, fell
- 15:51Speaker 6: short to a great team. But uh, I think I
- 15:54Speaker 6: can say I you know, I was proud of what
- 15:57Speaker 6: we as an offense put on tape these last few
- 15:59Speaker 6: weeks and just the way we we'll we celebrated, the
- 16:03Speaker 6: way guys cheered for each other, whether the run game
- 16:06Speaker 6: was was working, whether the receivers were rolling. I mean,
- 16:09Speaker 6: it was just al it was just we had we
- 16:12Speaker 6: had chemistry, and we had belief and uh love for
- 16:16Speaker 6: one another.
- 16:20Speaker 3: You know, in my heart. I want to play, but
- 16:26Speaker 3: you know it's been rough.
- 16:31Speaker 7: You know, I need to take the off season to
- 16:34Speaker 7: get healthy again. You know, bad them back for through
- 16:39Speaker 7: a growing. You know, it's one thing that just walk
- 16:42Speaker 7: off a growing I mean to play football. And there's
- 16:48Speaker 7: been some other stuff, but you know, it's definitely been
- 16:52Speaker 7: a season that I just wanted to put my hand
- 16:55Speaker 7: in that pile.
- 16:57Speaker 3: That would have been all I longed to be in
- 16:58Speaker 3: this year, we had kind of hang I want to
- 17:00Speaker 3: have to just rape that. You know, what's your point
- 17:01Speaker 3: for your size? Okay, here we go.
- 17:04Speaker 7: Yeah, we got shows well, when we got it down
- 17:07Speaker 7: to seven points, I thought we were gonna, you know,
- 17:10Speaker 7: make a run. You know, it comes back to the defense.
- 17:15Speaker 7: You know, we got some turn we got some penalties.
- 17:18Speaker 7: Uh that kept the drive alive and we didn't get
- 17:20Speaker 7: off the field and miss tackling led to a touchdown,
- 17:23Speaker 7: and you know, we just thought we just need to
- 17:27Speaker 7: get our ball, the ball back to our offense one
- 17:30Speaker 7: more time with a seven point lead, and then we
- 17:32Speaker 7: can make things interesting. But man, I appreciate the fight
- 17:35Speaker 7: of the guys. Uh was it pretty Now it's been
- 17:39Speaker 7: ugly in this game, but uh, you know, you just
- 17:42Speaker 7: gotta find ways to get it done.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Great day from the guys, and you know it's emotional, Jimmy,
- 17:47Speaker 1: because that's it. That's that's the last game for for
- 17:51Speaker 1: a while. I'm not, you know, as much as we
- 17:53Speaker 1: all love the NFL, it's it's odd because you have
- 17:56Speaker 1: to almost you have to cherish each every down, each
- 18:00Speaker 1: every week because there is that big offseason. And I
- 18:04Speaker 1: guess if you're you know, I know, a lot of
- 18:07Speaker 1: us work in the league and do a different podcasts
- 18:10Speaker 1: and do different things, and sometimes it feels like there
- 18:12Speaker 1: is no offseason, but certainly on the field there is.
- 18:14Speaker 1: And it's gonna be a while before we see the
- 18:16Speaker 1: guys out in the field again. And in this segment,
- 18:18Speaker 1: we're gonna give our favorite memory of the season, and Jimmy,
- 18:22Speaker 1: I'm blatantly gonna go ahead of here. So I'm I mean,
- 18:25Speaker 1: if you want to, if you want to re enact
- 18:27Speaker 1: this and give me the same one as fine, but
- 18:29Speaker 1: I have to give the watch part of April Parker
- 18:32Speaker 1: shot it because it I think for a lot of people,
- 18:36Speaker 1: it shocked me just how much I enjoyed it. Not
- 18:38Speaker 1: that I wasn't going to enjoy it, but just it
- 18:41Speaker 1: was so fun and it was I guess Ireland's first
- 18:44Speaker 1: time to have an event like that. Was really really cool,
- 18:48Speaker 1: and you could see the Steelers went all out. I
- 18:51Speaker 1: know the result didn't go away on the day, and
- 18:52Speaker 1: I think a lot of us, going on what they
- 18:55Speaker 1: have said a few minutes ago, Jimmy like as as
- 18:58Speaker 1: they have said, we did not expect this team to
- 19:00Speaker 1: make such a playoff fun. After that result, I think
- 19:02Speaker 1: a lot of us were sort of panicing at that point.
- 19:04Speaker 1: And you know, even at that even with the loss,
- 19:07Speaker 1: it was still an enjoyable day, which says so much
- 19:09Speaker 1: about the way of the team and more so Santonio Allen,
- 19:13Speaker 1: everybody that came over. It was such a fun time.
- 19:16Speaker 1: And I know there was other things that weekend. They
- 19:18Speaker 1: were up and down and they were doing different camps
- 19:20Speaker 1: and I love that. But I'll say this and not
- 19:23Speaker 1: shut up, guys, I promised I'll give you the microphone here.
- 19:26Speaker 1: I love the fact that, you know, I think for
- 19:28Speaker 1: a lot of people were we're lucky that what we're
- 19:31Speaker 1: experiencing as fans now in this generation of this game,
- 19:34Speaker 1: because there was people there on that night that would
- 19:37Speaker 1: have dreamed of something against in the eighties, nineties, two thousands,
- 19:39Speaker 1: so it was really cool. Were really excited to see
- 19:42Speaker 1: what happens this year. We don't know what's going to happen,
- 19:44Speaker 1: but we know there's stuff in the you know, in
- 19:46Speaker 1: the plans, and it's going to be cool to see
- 19:49Speaker 1: what happens. Jimmy, if I Stow, you're far with that event,
- 19:51Speaker 1: I feel like I have.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Well, there's a reason you went first, because I think
- 19:55Speaker 2: that was everyone's high life in the season. Nick would
- 19:57Speaker 2: know that's fair enough, and I completely agree with you.
- 19:59Speaker 2: I mean, there's such you can even see, there's such
- 20:02Speaker 2: exciting times ahead, not only the Steelers organization as a whole,
- 20:06Speaker 2: like you mean, there are positives to say from this
- 20:08Speaker 2: season with different players and things, but just for Watson Store,
- 20:11Speaker 2: for Ireland over the next couple of years, not just
- 20:14Speaker 2: the Steelers, with NFL in general. I mean we're on
- 20:17Speaker 2: the ground, the three of us. We're seeing how much
- 20:20Speaker 2: the fandom is growing year on year, a month, a month,
- 20:23Speaker 2: and it's just it's it's absolutely exploding right now. So
- 20:26Speaker 2: it's great to be in the middle of that and
- 20:29Speaker 2: be experienced, be experiencing that. But I think my own
- 20:32Speaker 2: personal kind of favorite thing from the season if I
- 20:35Speaker 2: had to pick up, and let's be honest, there's not
- 20:37Speaker 2: a lot of massive positives from on the field, but
- 20:40Speaker 2: I would have to say the emergence of Jaalen Warren
- 20:43Speaker 2: is probably my favorite thing from this season. I mean
- 20:47Speaker 2: way back when whenever we started this podcast, I did
- 20:51Speaker 2: kind of tap him as a player to watch. This season,
- 20:54Speaker 2: he's definitely he's emerged as one of the best running
- 20:57Speaker 2: backs in the league. And it's no longer a case
- 20:59Speaker 2: of j Harris being running back one and Jalen being
- 21:02Speaker 2: running back too. They are They're interchangeable and Dale and
- 21:06Speaker 2: Jaillen is a change of paceback. He's so explosive every
- 21:09Speaker 2: time he takes he gets his hand in the ball.
- 21:12Speaker 2: He's dynamic in the passing game as well. So I
- 21:14Speaker 2: think he's going to take on an even bigger role
- 21:17Speaker 2: next year. And if it is the case, and I
- 21:19Speaker 2: don't see why it would be that the Steelers don't
- 21:21Speaker 2: exercise Nagie's fiftyear option, I think we we have a
- 21:25Speaker 2: true running back one in Jalen Morren. So watching him
- 21:29Speaker 2: emerge has definitely been my highlight of the season.
- 21:34Speaker 1: I love a Jimmy Dave Jimmy Cammin clutch with that
- 21:36Speaker 1: jail a ward one sures we've went how many minutes
- 21:39Speaker 1: wid said Nick her Big on this podcast.
- 21:43Speaker 4: I know I've lost character tracks about how many times
- 21:47Speaker 4: he was mentioned on the podcast this year. But just
- 21:50Speaker 4: on a personal note, obviously that the last part is
- 21:52Speaker 4: the number, you know, the number one. Just on a
- 21:53Speaker 4: personal note, because if you had told me this time
- 21:56Speaker 4: last year, I would be sitting in the Hugan Swite
- 21:59Speaker 4: and Crow pow Ark watching the Steelers on a Sunday afternoon,
- 22:02Speaker 4: getting to meet Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes, Alan Fanica,
- 22:07Speaker 4: Hall of Famer Holland Fanica. By the way, I would
- 22:10Speaker 4: have asked you, maybe what what was in your tea?
- 22:13Speaker 4: It's it's it's incredible just to think of that this
- 22:15Speaker 4: time last year. I would have never imagined it. So
- 22:17Speaker 4: that was probably on a personal note. And in terms
- 22:20Speaker 4: of like Claire, I wasn't expecting maybe player development obviously
- 22:24Speaker 4: with with Nick Herbig, you know, the moment he got
- 22:27Speaker 4: his first sack was great, of course, but in moments
- 22:31Speaker 4: ways I think back to that play against the Ravens.
- 22:35Speaker 4: I can't remember if it was third down or not,
- 22:37Speaker 4: but Kenny Peckett's and smart decision making throwing it along
- 22:41Speaker 4: to George Pekins and winning the game with with a
- 22:44Speaker 4: long long through the end zone for a touchdown. Thinking back,
- 22:47Speaker 4: that was probably my moment of the season as well,
- 22:49Speaker 4: I think you had the t J Watt against the
- 22:50Speaker 4: Browns and the first Monday Night football of the year,
- 22:53Speaker 4: you know, fumble recovery in the NS for a touchdown
- 22:55Speaker 4: to say the game. So there was a couple of
- 22:57Speaker 4: moments I got where I think of specific game time moments,
- 23:00Speaker 4: but I was just saying, like, development wise, you know,
- 23:05Speaker 4: it always comes down to TJ. Water At the same time,
- 23:07Speaker 4: I mean to be the first player in NFL history
- 23:10Speaker 4: to reach to lead the league in sacks three for
- 23:14Speaker 4: three years on consocrative seasons, it's an incredible achievement and
- 23:18Speaker 4: probably you know, in terms of player development, again, he's
- 23:21Speaker 4: our best player, so there's not much room to develop there.
- 23:23Speaker 4: But in terms of player development, that would be mine.
- 23:25Speaker 4: But but the moments I think back to, obviously it
- 23:26Speaker 4: would be that touchdown to George Pekins was probably his
- 23:29Speaker 4: breakout moment of the year as well. Remember we were
- 23:31Speaker 4: sort of saying, like, when's he going to get this
- 23:33Speaker 4: moment and that was probably the moment but helped it.
- 23:35Speaker 4: So that's probably my mom out of the year.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Look, it's it's been a great year and there's been
- 23:40Speaker 1: so many things that have happened, and it's just it's
- 23:43Speaker 1: flew in and it feels like we were sitting in
- 23:46Speaker 1: the week one five minutes. It was really really strange.
- 23:48Speaker 1: But I know, and I think Jimmy you sort of
- 23:50Speaker 1: said it there as well, like on the ground this
- 23:52Speaker 1: is only the start. And that's what's so cool about
- 23:54Speaker 1: this because like when you've done this in one season,
- 23:56Speaker 1: what do we expect not just next season, but in
- 24:00Speaker 1: the lead up to next season. There's so many things
- 24:02Speaker 1: to come. And I know, folks, if you want to,
- 24:05Speaker 1: you know, keep on board, keep on touch, do follow
- 24:07Speaker 1: Steelers Ireland on x on on Instagram. Also, I know
- 24:12Speaker 1: you boys will be sitting hoping the Baltimore and knocked
- 24:14Speaker 1: out this weekend they get the I'm joking, I'm I.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Don't know the Lions. I'm adopting the Lions is my
- 24:21Speaker 2: playoff team. Now I am on behind that at that franchise.
- 24:25Speaker 1: I mean, oh, you're a cly Yeah, Like I was
- 24:28Speaker 1: eleven months old when they last they got to like
- 24:31Speaker 1: the last one of the playoff game. That's the scene,
- 24:33Speaker 1: Like that's so long ago.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Like I'm one hundred percent firmly behind the Lions. Is
- 24:38Speaker 2: my underdog this year to wait to win the NFC
- 24:42Speaker 2: and get into the into the super Bowl. And you
- 24:44Speaker 2: heard it your first hashtag gang camp.
- 24:46Speaker 1: I'm hoping for some sort of like you know, redamn
- 24:48Speaker 1: sure that the Steelers are back in like next week, Yeah,
- 24:50Speaker 1: Bublo count play, Okay, right.
- 24:52Speaker 2: It doesn't work that way, I know, I know.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Look there's always next year, and I know at some
- 24:59Speaker 1: point we will be talking around the championship slashing Bullpaards.
- 25:05Speaker 1: I can believe it.
- 25:05Speaker 3: I can.
- 25:06Speaker 1: If you see it, you can achieve it. That's what
- 25:08Speaker 1: I can see in my mind a lot. It's been
- 25:10Speaker 1: great crack over the last few weeks. I know we'll
- 25:12Speaker 1: have contact on let again very very soon. For everyone listening,
- 25:14Speaker 1: just go me Margot, thank you so much for listening
- 25:16Speaker 1: this season. We'll be back very soon. But for now,
- 25:20Speaker 1: this has been the our Singers podcast. Do we do?
- 25:22Speaker 4: We get it?
- 25:22Speaker 1: Here we go on Optimistic, Here we go ahead of yeah,
- 25:28Speaker 1: here we go, here, here
- 25:29Speaker 3: Here we go
