- 0:00Speaker 1: G one O five. It's the Erica Show and Dana
- 0:03Speaker 1: Wooten is in studio, President of the Clayton Chamber, which
- 0:06Speaker 1: everybody knows you. You're kind of like the queen around
- 0:08Speaker 1: there and I see you everywhere and you're doing all
- 0:10Speaker 1: the things, just really giving back to the community and
- 0:13Speaker 1: making sure people are being supported.
- 0:15Speaker 2: I well, thank you, Eric.
- 0:16Speaker 1: So everybody knows Dana, right, And so we have a
- 0:19Speaker 1: really cool event coming up that you guys have asked
- 0:21Speaker 1: me to be a part of it Elevate Her, and
- 0:22Speaker 1: I'm so excited. But what is Elevate Her for all
- 0:25Speaker 1: those have not heard about it?
- 0:26Speaker 2: Okay, Elevate Her is our women's Empowerment Summit and this
- 0:30Speaker 2: is our fourth year and last year you were a
- 0:33Speaker 2: guest as a panelist, right, and you resonated so well
- 0:37Speaker 2: with the audience that we wanted to bring you back
- 0:40Speaker 2: as no pressure.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Right.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Well, you'll be fine, You'll be great, and we're looking
- 0:45Speaker 2: forward to having you. But we usually have a theme
- 0:47Speaker 2: and last year was Unveiling the Mask. This year is
- 0:50Speaker 2: our our theme is women who are undeniable, unbreakable, and unstoppable, right,
- 0:57Speaker 2: and your story fit into that storyline that we are they.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Wont stop us. Are strong. You ain't stopping us.
- 1:03Speaker 2: I know it. So anyway we are. We're looking forward
- 1:07Speaker 2: to having you as a speaker, and you're gonna be
- 1:10Speaker 2: talking about thriving in a world of closed doors and
- 1:14Speaker 2: creating opportunities. Right, so just give everybody just like a
- 1:18Speaker 2: little snippet of what you may be talking about.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Well, first of all, so this is a male dominant
- 1:22Speaker 1: business and I know a lot of industries also have that.
- 1:25Speaker 1: But there's been times where you don't want to just
- 1:26Speaker 1: be a life track, right, I'm like, no, no, I'm
- 1:29Speaker 1: gonna show up front this and I'm gonna be the
- 1:30Speaker 1: main character of my own story. And so you have
- 1:32Speaker 1: to really fight and push for that. And sometimes that
- 1:34Speaker 1: could be negotiating your contract or maybe the female is
- 1:37Speaker 1: paid less, and being on top of things when you
- 1:40Speaker 1: go into those meetings, and also believing in yourself giving
- 1:43Speaker 1: some tibits on that. I know, for me, dressing for
- 1:46Speaker 1: success is important because it makes me feel better and
- 1:49Speaker 1: then you glow and you kind of show up in
- 1:51Speaker 1: that way when you go to these meetings. We're gonna
- 1:53Speaker 1: go over ways to fill your cup because that's how
- 1:55Speaker 1: you're showing up to the world, but also, you know,
- 1:58Speaker 1: respecting yourself and getting that risk respect from others. I
- 2:00Speaker 1: know I'm in a place now in my career where
- 2:02Speaker 1: I feel like I do have that respect, but it
- 2:04Speaker 1: took some time to get to that place.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Absolutely now. I think as a woman in business, we've
- 2:09Speaker 2: all struggled with those things and coming into your own
- 2:14Speaker 2: is powerful, and we want to make sure that we
- 2:16Speaker 2: are sharing that and our experiences with everyone that's coming
- 2:20Speaker 2: to the conference.
- 2:21Speaker 1: And not Guy Hayden, because I've had some incredible men
- 2:24Speaker 1: help guide me and be there to fight for me.
- 2:26Speaker 1: You know, obviously, by there are things that to just
- 2:29Speaker 1: be mindful of that might not be as easy are
- 2:30Speaker 1: along your journey.
- 2:31Speaker 2: So that's true.
- 2:32Speaker 1: It's the tidbits to get you further along.
- 2:34Speaker 2: I know. Well, support systems are are huge. And one
- 2:38Speaker 2: of the things that I love about this conference is
- 2:42Speaker 2: I just attended two events. One was a woman's conference
- 2:45Speaker 2: and one was a leadership development retreat, and they both
- 2:50Speaker 2: talked about building your board of directors. Who sits on
- 2:54Speaker 2: your board, who's supporting you, who's telling you that you
- 2:58Speaker 2: need to straighten up when you need to straighten who's
- 3:01Speaker 2: encouraging you? So we all as women need to be
- 3:05Speaker 2: I think building our own boarder directors or tribes, so
- 3:08Speaker 2: to speak. You know, there might be somebody that gives
- 3:11Speaker 2: you a growth opportunity because they are strong in an
- 3:14Speaker 2: area where you might not be, and you want to
- 3:16Speaker 2: learn and grow that way. So I think Elevate Her
- 3:18Speaker 2: is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet like winded
- 3:21Speaker 2: minded women who share some of the same goals and
- 3:25Speaker 2: the same struggles. And so we're excited for it. April sixteenth.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Aprill sixteenth. Where is it though, and where can they
- 3:32Speaker 1: get tickets?
- 3:33Speaker 2: Okay? So April sixteenth is at the Clayton Center in
- 3:36Speaker 2: downtown Clayton.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Which is so pretty.
- 3:38Speaker 2: It is pretty. It is a wonderful old school building
- 3:41Speaker 2: that they reflourished. It's wonderful, and it's from eight am
- 3:45Speaker 2: and to one o'clock. So we've changed the way the
- 3:49Speaker 2: Elevate Her some it is this year. So we're going
- 3:52Speaker 2: to have vendors there as well. Some of our local
- 3:54Speaker 2: businesses are going to be there, and we're going to
- 3:57Speaker 2: have breakfast de mimosas and and just kind of enjoy
- 4:01Speaker 2: each other's company and before the summit starts.
- 4:04Speaker 1: And I will say so. Last year was my first
- 4:05Speaker 1: year attending, and I was so excited because a lot
- 4:07Speaker 1: of the women that I've met, we stay in contact.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Like I see them, they're cheering me on, I'm cheering
- 4:12Speaker 1: them on. I'm like, Wow, she's a badass. Excuse my language,
- 4:15Speaker 1: but I'm like, there are really some fierce, fabulous women
- 4:17Speaker 1: that attend this and it's cool to collaborate and make
- 4:20Speaker 1: friends and make them a part of your tribe.
- 4:22Speaker 2: They are they are. We also have another local speaker
- 4:26Speaker 2: as well. Her name's Tina Bailey, and she is actually
- 4:30Speaker 2: one of our launch Joco students who is a speaker
- 4:35Speaker 2: and an author and a podcaster as well, and she's
- 4:38Speaker 2: going to be talking about how to reclaim your narrative.
- 4:42Speaker 2: So I'm anxious to see what Tina has to share
- 4:44Speaker 2: with me. I love that. Yeah, So we structure EURS
- 4:46Speaker 2: a little differently. We don't do the breakout sessions and
- 4:50Speaker 2: go to different rooms. We just we just want to
- 4:52Speaker 2: make sure that we're all together all at one time.
- 4:55Speaker 2: And so we have our two speakers, and then we
- 4:57Speaker 2: also have a panel of women who are are talking
- 5:00Speaker 2: about owning their own journey and the power of resilience, confidence,
- 5:06Speaker 2: and leadership. And Melissa Overton, who was a speaker, has
- 5:10Speaker 2: been a speaker. Absolutely, she's going to be our moderator
- 5:13Speaker 2: for that. So we're very excited about the day.
- 5:15Speaker 1: And who's the sponsor this year? Because I know that's
- 5:17Speaker 1: always a big way of making these events happen. If
- 5:19Speaker 1: it wasn't for our sponsors, we couldn't do it.
- 5:21Speaker 2: We sure couldn't. The presenting sponsor this year is the
- 5:24Speaker 2: Jewel Box and it's a small business, local owned business
- 5:27Speaker 2: on Main Street in downtown Clayton. So yeah, we appreciate
- 5:31Speaker 2: their support.
- 5:31Speaker 1: That's amazing. Okay, So why is it important for women
- 5:35Speaker 1: to get involved in roles like you're in, because, like
- 5:37Speaker 1: you know, everybody knows you you're giving back. But for you,
- 5:40Speaker 1: what is the importance of getting involved?
- 5:42Speaker 2: I think the importance of getting involved is building your relationships.
- 5:47Speaker 2: You know, relationships aren't transactional, and I feel like being
- 5:51Speaker 2: part of our Chamber of Commerce or getting involved in
- 5:54Speaker 2: some way form fashion with with some organization gives you
- 5:58Speaker 2: a sense of purpose and it also connects you to
- 6:02Speaker 2: the resources you need to be successful in your business
- 6:06Speaker 2: or successful in your personal life and both. I really
- 6:09Speaker 2: believe that getting involved is extremely important to you. It
- 6:14Speaker 2: helps me my well being, my mental health, my spiritual health,
- 6:19Speaker 2: my physical health, and where you build networks in all
- 6:22Speaker 2: kinds of different places.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I mean, I joined a board for a prison alliance
- 6:25Speaker 1: which is about prison reformance, faith based and I'll say, like,
- 6:28Speaker 1: I've been on the board for about a year now,
- 6:30Speaker 1: and it's so fulfilling to go out and do stuff
- 6:32Speaker 1: like this job is. But also it's just really cool. Yeah,
- 6:36Speaker 1: and not only are you giving back, but you gain
- 6:38Speaker 1: and you from your own.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Heart exactly, you're involved exactly. Well, I'm a rotarian and
- 6:43Speaker 2: I absolutely love being a rotarian. I love the service
- 6:47Speaker 2: above self is our motto and I try to live
- 6:49Speaker 2: that every day. Also belong to a gym where I
- 6:52Speaker 2: need to release all the stress and feed myself physically,
- 6:58Speaker 2: you know. So yeah, it's I don't know. Sometimes we
- 7:01Speaker 2: can work in a silo and not be connected, and
- 7:05Speaker 2: I think connections are very important.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Well, thank you for coming in. I'm excited to see
- 7:09Speaker 1: you on the sixteenth. Tell us the website one more time.
- 7:12Speaker 2: It's www. Clayton Chamber dot com and just go click
- 7:17Speaker 2: on events and click on elevator and register.
- 7:20Speaker 1: So and if you forget go to my Instagram. It's
- 7:22Speaker 1: on there and it'll direct you to elevate her.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Absolutely, we've got Facebook two as you can go on
- 7:27Speaker 2: the Clayton Chamber Facebook page and it's on there as well,
- 7:30Speaker 2: so we'd love to see everybody there
