- 0:00I am Dan and I play guitar were Engraved. I am Corey and I
- 0:06play guitar for Engraved. I'm Pander and I play my voice for Engraved,
- 0:14and I'm Phil play bass. Ellie, dude, gentlemen, No, it's
- 0:18a bad day in hell, indeed when Phil's the only one who sounds normal
- 0:20when they make the introductions. How you doing, gentlemen? Well, but
- 0:28to talk to again, it's been a while, yes, very long it
- 0:33has, indeed. So we've got a hell of a lot to get through
- 0:35tonight, guys. So we'll start I guess with your headlining show as part
- 0:39of Beyond the Darkness at the back Room in Brisbane on September fourteenth. So
- 0:43the show is a benefit concert for the g I Cancer Institute, featuring Yourself,
- 0:47Sentiment, Void Matter, wild Ash and Effigy, a Herou and Moore.
- 0:52So it sounds like a pretty good gig. Sounds like an excellent gig.
- 0:57I myself am quite excited. It's be a lot of fun. The
- 1:02last one was great. The last the last Beyond the Darkness gig was actually
- 1:06my first gig with the band. It was kind of like trial by fire
- 1:10and we went out and very very quickly. All of our like skepticisms and
- 1:17nerves disappeared really quickly, So I'm excited to come back and smash it out
- 1:21again. This would be your anniversary with us too. Yeah, you come
- 1:26out naked or something. Baby birthdays. You'll have to come to the show
- 1:30to find out. Well, I'm allowed to come out because the lineup is
- 1:33fucking decent. Finally, and is it actually going from last years? We're
- 1:41just you're playing from the nosebleed stands, but this year you're actually headlining,
- 1:45So congratulations, thank you, thank you. A bit of a bit of
- 1:49a step up, so it's gonna be more eyes on you and more responsibility.
- 1:53Have he's learned how to say that word yet? No sponsor we can
- 1:59say it, can't spell it repulsibility anyway, so we'll probably move on from
- 2:04that one. We actually got asked pretty much right after the set if we
- 2:10could come back next year, and we said yes straight after the set,
- 2:15and then we later on found out that we must have had a good time
- 2:20because we're on top of the poster. That's awesome, awesome, And how
- 2:24good is the back room as a venue? Guys? I think it's probably
- 2:29underestimated Brisbane because it's that a little bit far out, but so people,
- 2:31you know, people are lazy, they won't go somewhere where they can't get
- 2:34you easy. But as a venue, pretty good. Yeah, there was
- 2:39a nice definitely one of the better stages played on a lot of space,
- 2:44a lot of room. Yeah, we're not talking about a sexual thing,
- 2:49efl am ever going to move on from that because this is going to turn
- 2:59into pretty nasty. But we've got all the details. It is the back
- 3:02room on the fourteenth to September for Beyond the Darkness. It's a good cause.
- 3:07Tickets the twenty five bucks pre style for that one or forty bucks on
- 3:09the door. So that's one thing we've got the people go and see you
- 3:13at. But before that, you're also playing at Nowhere Festival at the Mansfield
- 3:16Tavern on May the fourth with another monster line up over two stages including Hybrid
- 3:22Nightmares, Nicolas, Cage bider Like and Throw Hunt Squad to probably my favorite
- 3:25band name ever, Deprivation and more so, if you look across those two
- 3:30lineups alone, mate, like the quality of line the quality of bands on
- 3:34those lineups, you're showing the depth of Australian music at the moment. Definitely.
- 3:38It's it's insane like you try and think of like, oh, you
- 3:43know, let's do it. However, many ten twelve twelve band lineup of
- 3:47Australian bands and to get the lineup so strong and anticipate such a fucking awesome
- 3:57show, it's going to be killer and which which run out of all those
- 4:01bigger bands he is looking forward to playing with the most. There's there's some
- 4:04good and now Nicholas Page Fight would be the one I'd be most looking forward
- 4:08to seeing. Yeah, definitely, I've only heard amazing things about the Cage
- 4:13Fighters. What a band name do you? Yeah? So I've started from
- 4:21all these live shows having I know you've got some more coming up into state,
- 4:25but we'll talk about them later on. But I suppose the biggest thing
- 4:28that's happened with the Grave lately is the recent lineup changes. But the one
- 4:31that's closest to heavyes Heart is our very own Horry, our coclast sex Bomb
- 4:36is now your guitarist. So Tory, you shut your mouth and the rest
- 4:40of you guys, tell us a bit more about Coco and what he brings
- 4:43to the band. First, I think there's a few things, but definitely
- 4:51the experience of being in a band that he has behind him definitely accommodates to
- 4:58what we're trying to achieve is a group. But just like understanding and made
- 5:02ship is probably the most important thing that comes with Corey, but also pandera
- 5:05as well. We all we all want the same thing whilst having a good
- 5:11time with each other, and it's it's a very rare thing to find.
- 5:14So having someone like Corey coming to the group really opened that up for myself
- 5:17and Phil. It's good to have people that you you're good at communicating with,
- 5:25you know, I've known some of these guys for quite a while,
- 5:27so for us all to link up, it just really makes sense. And
- 5:30it's just it really makes fast work of things when you have good communication and
- 5:33you understand what each other means. You know. Yeah, sure, And
- 5:40I guess suggests the big one is that Corey is normally known as a bass
- 5:45player, So was Phil spot ever in danger or we're always going to put
- 5:48Corey on the guitar. I was the one that brought him in soil triangle
- 5:59or something for that doesn't require a bat I don't think he's ever truly in
- 6:02danger until I've got a good enough body to take my shirt off. So
- 6:05you get abs like, he's not a danger at all. And how about
- 6:11your perspective, Corey, Like you are sort of better known for playing the
- 6:14bass and probably more rock blueby type bands rather than the medal of ingraved,
- 6:18So how are you settling in with a different environment. It was definitely jump
- 6:25in the pool with both your feet, like deep end kind of situation,
- 6:30but it was it was something I was kind of hungry for because I started
- 6:32playing guitar before I played bass. So I started playing bass because we couldn't
- 6:36find a good bass player that would play with a bunch of fifteen year olds.
- 6:43And then next thing, you know, like ten years later, it's
- 6:45it's become a career. And I was really hungry to get back onto a
- 6:50six string guitar or however many we decided to go. And yeah, so
- 6:57like it was definitely like a steep learning curve to kind of get back on
- 7:01to like retrain my hand, to to like stretch differently and playing a completely
- 7:06different type of music. But it didn't take too long to kind of jump
- 7:12back on that horse. And now it's kind of like I never stopped and
- 7:15you know, and I'm loving every minute of it. Yeah. Cool.
- 7:18And the Cans connection is even stronger with Panda coming into Boats Made, So
- 7:23you've got three Cans boys in the band now look out. Yeah, tell
- 7:28us a bit about yourself, Pander and what you bring into Engraved. Oh,
- 7:31I'll bring the you know obviously, the raw appeal of course, appeal
- 7:36of course, a little bit of film. Mostly damn it is the aera
- 7:47qui, you know, the spice and everything nice, you know, just
- 7:57out no way, honestly though. You know, I've I've known Phil for
- 8:05a while, I've known Corey as long as I can remember, and it
- 8:09really was a surprise to me, you know, to be asked to take
- 8:15up this role and honor too, because I've always got along with the boys.
- 8:18We've always spoke about doing things in the past, you know, together
- 8:22for a laugh or side projects and such, and it really just was pretty
- 8:28incredible timing that we were all just available and reasonably acceptable to each other to
- 8:33finally do this. And we've always, like I said, we've always wanted
- 8:37to do something and our styles just matched it. I think our influences although
- 8:43somewhat very really just compliment each other, and I just think this is going
- 8:46to be fantastic though. For everything we've done, rehearsed, practice, made
- 8:50up has just flown, you know. It's really brought back that joy of
- 8:58creating in an organic vibe. It's just it's been really great. So I'm
- 9:01just over the moment. I'm looking forward to working with these guys, you
- 9:07know, for the long run. It's going to be good. Yeah.
- 9:09It was when when I originally got asked to join, because I knew that
- 9:15both the singer and the original singer and guitarist had left. I had Hada
- 9:20lined up in my head as like an option and the singing role was already
- 9:26taken. And then obviously with the stuff that's happened in the past, yeah,
- 9:31most recently, it was a no brainer. I think it was.
- 9:35It was like, what are we going to do? And I was like,
- 9:37I'm gonna call Panda, and then it was it was within three seconds,
- 9:41it was like, yes, send me the songs. And it's been
- 9:45seamless ever since, like really really good. Oh and of course you got
- 9:50the same problem as a lot of bands with the way with drummer syndrome guys,
- 9:54So what do you to put someone on the stool at the moment.
- 9:56Yeah, No, we've got tiago In, a guy from Goldie or originally
- 10:01Brazil, so we're going for another Brazilian. He conducts himself very professionally,
- 10:07which I think all of us were instantly drawn too. So fitting in and
- 10:13then there's its fitting in, and then there's you know, where have you
- 10:16been? Yeah? And I haven't honestly jammed with a dramma like that in
- 10:22years, where they stop you halfway for a song, going no, we
- 10:26need to practice this part, and then you just practice that part fifteen times.
- 10:31Yeah, drummer to Normally they'd be there just trying to get their feet,
- 10:33you know, instead of jumping in. Agree, he's pulling my head
- 10:39in. Fight him on the contract, guys, because there's about ten bands
- 10:43I know, I'm looking for drummers at the moment, So sign is going
- 10:48he's already it can't be where the last one? Sorry, that's a good
- 10:56enough for me. It dropped your you're both recent tracked Wretched One back in
- 11:01February. That wasn't with Panda singing though, was it? No? It?
- 11:05So, have you got any new material coming out? With this new
- 11:09lineupravently that there'll be by the time this comes out within the two months within
- 11:16Yeah, we've got at least two singles coming up within the immediate future,
- 11:22and then a lot more cool stuff to come after that. Yeah. Well,
- 11:26and like one thing I guess a lot of people don't realize when when
- 11:30they listen to music is along with lineup changes comes idea changes and style changes
- 11:35when you write new music. So how's this new music that you're writing compared
- 11:39to the old and great stuff. I think we've gone more back, yeah,
- 11:45but more finer tuned and more energy. Panda the vocalist before Panda limited
- 11:54this a little bit. But with Panda's range, we're actually to be able
- 11:58to go back to that could present. So it's going to be a nice
- 12:05mixture of harsh and clean vocals. Yeah, it's going to go back to
- 12:09that melodic core with harsh vocals and and everything in between. And even just
- 12:16like the last writing session we had, the songs are coming out and they're
- 12:20exciting us so much. We can't wait to show the world what's about to
- 12:24come out. Yeah. The writing when we're together is very fluent. It's
- 12:31not like before we're probably myself and one other person are doing most of the
- 12:33writing. We're actually a band that is now writing together and it's feeling very
- 12:37more natural. It's very collectic between them, you know, between us and
- 12:43the whole band's pretty much Queensland. No Dan lives up here pretty much.
- 12:48And how does that? I guess the big thing for fans of the band
- 12:52is, like our existing fans that love your music when you first came out,
- 12:56are they still going to be happy with the new stuff? Oh?
- 12:58Yeah, it started, like we said, we're going back to that original
- 13:03vision, but just polished and upgraded as much as we can polish and upgrade
- 13:11it because we obviously want to keep moving forward. That's That's not to put
- 13:15down anything we've done in the past, but yeah, the past was really
- 13:18good, a great band. But I know a lot of fans out there
- 13:22with lineup changes, particularly when a new vocalist comes in, they're worried that
- 13:26they're going to lose the essence of the band that they fell in love with.
- 13:31Not worried for a second, Yeah, Panda's definitely definitely something you don't
- 13:37want. Yeah, well, look at the size that can't you can't miss
- 13:41him I'm crouching beyond for them. It's a head over me. I think
- 13:50what really leads to like the proof is in the pudding is how much we're
- 13:56in the practice room and we just look at each other and smile at little
- 13:58bits because it's just like it's all coming together so smoothly. Just feels right.
- 14:03Yeah, very cool, very well. And along with lineup changes,
- 14:07I guess also comes branding updates and new merch. So I'm taking it to
- 14:11you guys all over that stands all over it smell he is. What do
- 14:20you got? Got a new line of shirts that we've already that where that
- 14:26will be dropping at the Nowhere Festival. We've got stickers coming out, and
- 14:33we've got a couple more shirt designs in the making, and a few other
- 14:37little cheeky surprises. You're just going to have to come to a show to
- 14:39see that was that aimed at me or everyone? Corey everyone? But yeah,
- 14:46it's almost been a year and you haven't come yet. Well, you've
- 14:48already got a shirt, a new one. I'm not talking about a shirt,
- 14:52I'm talking about coming to see his life. That was a very backhanded
- 14:54fucking thing. You can always to our website as well. There's always a
- 15:01little merch update from time to time, so yeah, website in cases someone
- 15:07listening that doesn't I www dot Engrave bandofficial dot com to find all of the
- 15:13latest Engraved merch from stickers to key rings, hats, hoodies, your essentials
- 15:20will be there and we have discount codes available through the website as well,
- 15:26So when you approach that site if it's on Google, just add music at
- 15:31the end or else you get a shipload of gold rings. People understand you've
- 15:43got a few interstage shows coming up as well, so fans outside of Queensland
- 15:46you can see what's what's going on there. Yep. So we're I'm going
- 15:52to be down in Sydney. Well I'm going to stay here, but these
- 15:56boys will be coming down in June for ram at Down Festival. We then
- 16:00have plans to go to Melbourne in October and also Adelaide, so we are
- 16:04traveling around a fair bit and are looking to book more shows in between those
- 16:10periods as well. Very good guys. All right, well, thanks very
