- 0:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Shock circuit with Sonya and Joakim.
- 0:09Speaker 1: 7. Thank you. Though I sound pretty husky today. No,
- 0:12Speaker 1: it's OK. There's a voice I've not heard in 6 days,
- 0:16Speaker 1: including the weekend. Oh yeah, you know what, when I
- 0:18Speaker 1: stepped in, sorry, we, we, we were catching up off
- 0:21Speaker 1: air and, uh, just, just laughing and stuff because when
- 0:25Speaker 1: we came in today, Joy was like.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Mock crying, but he was like, Don't leave me again.
- 0:30Speaker 1: It was so boring. I want to die. I was like,
- 0:33Speaker 1: You are Mr. Dramatic. You are my only work bestie,
- 0:37Speaker 1: and the show is much better when both of us
- 0:40Speaker 1: do it together. I agree. I agree because there were
- 0:42Speaker 1: so many things I wish you were here. I know
- 0:45Speaker 1: where we could banter and because, you know, good cop,
- 0:47Speaker 1: bad cop, and I'm always the bad cop. The good
- 0:49Speaker 1: cop must be here to balance my views out. Can
- 0:52Speaker 1: I ask you how many times did you say, I
- 0:53Speaker 1: wish Sonia was here for this?
- 0:55Speaker 1: Actually quite a number of times, quite a number of times,
- 0:58Speaker 1: but I'm very glad today you got plenty to talk
- 1:02Speaker 1: about involving the housing situation here in Singapore. I don't
- 1:05Speaker 1: know what's going on. I missed out on all the
- 1:07Speaker 1: local news, but I have so much to tell you
- 1:09Speaker 1: about Tomorrowland. I don't even know where to start. OK,
- 1:12Speaker 1: maybe we won't start so early. I'll I'll touch on
- 1:14Speaker 1: it a little later on, but every hour you can
- 1:16Speaker 1: ask me a question. Yes, but can I say one
- 1:18Speaker 1: thing first? Yes. Thank you for not being performative. OK.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Thank you. It's too early to shade anyone, OK. The
- 1:25Speaker 1: pink makeup and all that I told you I don't
- 1:28Speaker 1: have any of the pink pang makeup, bro. OK. My
- 1:31Speaker 1: fits were actually cute. I won't say. I won't say
- 1:35Speaker 1: my friends as well. I'm so sorry. I'm a little
- 1:37Speaker 1: bit hoarse today. It was from all the screaming over
- 1:39Speaker 1: the weekend. Don't worry about it. I'm surprised you're not
- 1:41Speaker 1: jet lagged. I, I, I am a little bit. In fact,
- 1:45Speaker 1: yesterday when I got back, I flew back, right? I
- 1:48Speaker 1: whole drama about my flight, by the way.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I haven't told you about it. Maybe I'll tell you
- 1:52Speaker 1: later after 7. Now it's a little too early. No,
- 1:55Speaker 1: I didn't, I didn't. Um, but my luggage isn't here. Oh,
- 1:59Speaker 1: and neither, well, I would say almost the entire plane's
- 2:04Speaker 1: luggage didn't make it to Singapore.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Did you buy insurance? Yes, well done. No, of course,
- 2:09Speaker 1: we have to buy travel insurance for sure. I mean,
- 2:11Speaker 1: I'm going for an international festival. I definitely need insurance.
- 2:14Speaker 1: But what I did not expect was the luggage situation,
- 2:17Speaker 1: but it's no fault of Singapore Airlines. It's Brussels Airport.
- 2:22Speaker 1: It was a disaster, Joakim. I need to tell you
- 2:24Speaker 1: more later. It's a little bit too early to go
- 2:26Speaker 1: into the whole story, but this sounds like it could
- 2:28Speaker 1: be a topic as well. It was an absolute, it was,
- 2:32Speaker 1: it was, it was chaos. Yeah. So aside from Sonia's
- 2:35Speaker 1: luggage issue, all I can say is I feel like
- 2:37Speaker 1: I struck gold on this Wednesday morning at 9 a.m.
- 2:40Speaker 1: you'll be joined by a lovely lady who's a dear
- 2:43Speaker 1: friend of mine, Estelle Fly. So not one but two
- 2:46Speaker 1: beautiful people.
- 2:47Speaker 1: In the morning, you and her, is it you and I'm,
- 2:50Speaker 1: I'm just here for the vibes, OK. I'm just here
- 2:53Speaker 1: to surround myself with beautifully talented ladies. There we go. OK, yeah, um,
- 2:58Speaker 1: I'm very excited to see her, and I think she
- 3:00Speaker 1: begins or embarks on a new chapter of music as well. Yeah.
- 3:03Speaker 1: So this is going to be such a big year
- 3:05Speaker 1: for her. And here's giving you a heads up today's
- 3:09Speaker 1: NDP ticket giveaway because we have Esther Fly coming in
- 3:12Speaker 1: at 9.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Do it at just past 7. Yeah. I know that
- 3:16Speaker 1: you mentioned I missed out a lot in Singapore over
- 3:19Speaker 1: the past 5 days or so. Um, did, did one
- 3:24Speaker 1: of the incidents happen to be this strange, um, pyramid,
- 3:28Speaker 1: pyramid performance in the flyer? No, it's not that happened yesterday.
- 3:33Speaker 1: That happened yesterday. When I saw this, I was like, OK,
- 3:35Speaker 1: did Joakim already talk about this or should we talk
- 3:37Speaker 1: about this? No, no, no, but rest assured.
- 3:39Speaker 1: if it did happen the last few days you weren't here,
- 3:42Speaker 1: I would have been on it. You would have made
- 3:44Speaker 1: jokes about it. I would have classified it Bodo crime,
- 3:47Speaker 1: but I don't know whether is it a crime. I
- 3:48Speaker 1: don't know. It could be just a safety issue, but anyway, TLDR, um,
- 3:53Speaker 1: about 10 people were seen forming human a human pyramid
- 3:57Speaker 1: inside a Singapore flyer cabin, which I think sparked off
- 4:01Speaker 1: some major safety concerns, um, but it was posted on IG.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Yes, and I, their faces are quite obvious. It's quite clear,
- 4:10Speaker 1: to be honest. So I think they'll be found in
- 4:12Speaker 1: no time. I don't know whether they'll be fined or
- 4:14Speaker 1: anything or just given a warning, but it's a huge
- 4:17Speaker 1: safety risk. It is, it is, it is. I'm thankful
- 4:19Speaker 1: it was just a human pyramid, not a human tombstone. Yeah,
- 4:22Speaker 1: what's a human tombstone? No, I mean just saying if
- 4:25Speaker 1: anything were to have happened, you know what I mean?
- 4:27Speaker 1: I thought, you know, you know, boys, sometimes you got
- 4:29Speaker 1: all these terms like ok or like.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Don't know what other stuff you guys do. Taok is
- 4:34Speaker 1: commonly used in national service or maybe even your OGLs
- 4:37Speaker 1: or whatsoever, OGs. Yeah, yeah. I feel like you boys,
- 4:43Speaker 1: especially in army and camp, have your own lingo that
- 4:46Speaker 1: I don't understand. Hello, I've seen the ladies do it too, yeah. Yes,
- 4:51Speaker 1: I've never been in the, oh, well, maybe, maybe, but
- 4:54Speaker 1: not so rough.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Not so long. It wasn't so it was more like
- 4:57Speaker 1: a ta. No, but you're getting warmer. I'll tell you
- 5:00Speaker 1: what it is in just a while., good morning. You know,
- 5:04Speaker 1: whenever I hear this song, and this one millennials will enjoy,
- 5:07Speaker 1: you know, Monica from Friends, Courtney Cox Arquette, yeah, yeah,
- 5:11Speaker 1: she's taking drumming lessons now. She actually posted a video
- 5:14Speaker 1: of herself doing the drums to Men I needed, and
- 5:18Speaker 1: it went viral. Love it, and people went, Monica.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Monica, speaking of Monica being back, back, I mean, figuratively, um,
- 5:26Speaker 1: did you realize that Friends has come back to Netflix? They,
- 5:31Speaker 1: they exited, you know, they made a whole big deal
- 5:33Speaker 1: out of it. The Netflix Singapore. Yes, Netflix Singapore. So
- 5:37Speaker 1: months ago, Netflix Singapore, um, removed Friends, and they, they
- 5:41Speaker 1: actually made an announcement that's 30 days left for you
- 5:44Speaker 1: to catch Friends before it leaves, right?
- 5:46Speaker 1: It left. A lot of people were quite sad because
- 5:49Speaker 1: it's those kind of, I know it's a very old show, sitcom,
- 5:52Speaker 1: but it's the kind of show that has 10 seasons.
- 5:54Speaker 1: You just let it play in the background while you're
- 5:55Speaker 1: doing your things. It's funny. It's, it makes you laugh,
- 5:58Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, some of the jokes now will not
- 6:00Speaker 1: pass for sure. It's very cancelable. Honestly, I think that
- 6:03Speaker 1: show would have been canceled if it was out in this.
- 6:06Speaker 1: age, um, I can name you two other 5 other
- 6:09Speaker 1: shows that will be canceled if it was produced now.
- 6:11Speaker 1: So I'm happy it's under the nostalgic factor. But also
- 6:15Speaker 1: thank you Netflix Singapore for bringing back The Office. Yes,
- 6:18Speaker 1: they brought back The Office on Netflix Singapore. So that's
- 6:20Speaker 1: the show that I'm playing in the background where I
- 6:22Speaker 1: do my own housework. So yeah, we both have our
- 6:24Speaker 1: selections when we come back here on the circuit.
- 6:26Speaker 1: They're gonna open phone lines over at 669-119-87. Give your
- 6:30Speaker 1: school a shout out. It could be your teachers or what.
- 6:32Speaker 1: If you're a teacher as well, give your students a
- 6:34Speaker 1: shout out. And for this morning all the way till Friday,
- 6:38Speaker 1: whoever gets you the phone lines, you are automatically walking
- 6:41Speaker 1: away with tickets to Alex Warren's concert here in Singapore. Yeah.
- 6:48Speaker 1: We want you to enjoy solid live music. If you've
- 6:51Speaker 1: never attended a live concert before, maybe because you're still
- 6:55Speaker 1: in school. Why not? This could be a chance.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Good morning. Hello 97. My name is Evander.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Hello.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Which school are you from?
- 7:03Speaker 2: Marisella High School Primary.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Marist. Alright, big shout out. So is Maristella High School
- 7:09Speaker 1: and the secondary school next to each other at the
- 7:11Speaker 1: Barley area? You mean the primary and sec,
- 7:15Speaker 2: Maricela, it's both secondary and primary at the same level.
- 7:18Speaker 1: So it's kind of like my school, like they're next
- 7:20Speaker 1: to each other, I believe, yeah. So Marella is going
- 7:22Speaker 1: to be coed school very soon,
- 7:23Speaker 2: right? Yes, yes,
- 7:25Speaker 2: it's in fact, it's being demolished next year.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Oh wow. So what happens to you then?
- 7:30Speaker 2: Well, then for next year we're gonna be, so we're
- 7:33Speaker 2: moving to a holding site for like about 3 years-ish maybe. Wow,
- 7:38Speaker 1: Evander, you know, you sound super mature for your age.
- 7:40Speaker 1: How old are you this year?
- 7:42Speaker 2: 11.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Oh wait, so you went for the NDP show as well? Yeah,
- 7:45Speaker 2: I
- 7:45Speaker 2: just went for
- 7:46Speaker 1: it
- 7:46Speaker 2: like a couple, a couple of weeks ago.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Did you have
- 7:49Speaker 2: a
- 7:49Speaker 1: good time? Yeah,
- 7:51Speaker 2: very fun.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Love it. Well, you know what, because we love your
- 7:54Speaker 1: energy and
- 7:55Speaker 1: The way that you're having this conversation with us, we've
- 7:57Speaker 1: absolutely enjoyed it. We want you to be there for
- 8:00Speaker 1: Alex Warra.
- 8:04Speaker 1: It's happening August 18th over at the Star Theater. You
- 8:07Speaker 1: have a pair of tickets. Bring your mom or dad
- 8:09Speaker 1: with you, OK?
- 8:10Speaker 2: Okey
- 8:11Speaker 2: dokey.
- 8:13Speaker 1: So yes, just yesterday, um, Joakim has a lot of
- 8:16Speaker 1: questions for me. I mean, on Thursday, Friday, Monday, and
- 8:20Speaker 1: Tuesday whenever I gave updates about where you were, I
- 8:24Speaker 1: said you and I had this small agreement that we
- 8:26Speaker 1: will combine both our friend groups and go for one
- 8:29Speaker 1: Tomorrowland together, and I said, you know what, I really
- 8:32Speaker 1: hope this experience he's having right now won't be as
- 8:35Speaker 1: kick ass as what it could be in the future.
- 8:38Speaker 1: And then I realized the picture of you and Martin Garrix.
- 8:42Speaker 1: How are you going to top future Tomorrowland experiences? OK, look, um,
- 8:47Speaker 1: I will say yeah, that was one part of it,
- 8:49Speaker 1: but that wasn't the be all and end all. Like
- 8:51Speaker 1: it wasn't the only good thing of the entire Tomorrowland weekend.
- 8:56Speaker 1: He's he.
- 8:57Speaker 1: He is such an awesome guy. Like he's super friendly. Um,
- 9:00Speaker 1: he gave all of us a hug, you know, gave us, OK,
- 9:03Speaker 1: he had very limited time because it was moments before
- 9:06Speaker 1: he went out on stage. So I think he really
- 9:07Speaker 1: wants to lock in. And he did the closing set
- 9:09Speaker 1: for the whole festival. So, so it's a big deal.
- 9:13Speaker 1: So he, we were warned actually to not take up
- 9:18Speaker 1: too much of his time. Like if you just want
- 9:19Speaker 1: to say hi and introduce yourself and then take the photo,
- 9:22Speaker 1: you have to go. It was just quite sad because
- 9:24Speaker 1: I had this video idea I wanted to do with him,
- 9:26Speaker 1: but
- 9:26Speaker 1: Um, time didn't permit, and you know, I heard the
- 9:29Speaker 1: managers are quite strict, and we don't want to get
- 9:31Speaker 1: blacklisted for trying, attempting and trying something that we're already
- 9:36Speaker 1: told not to do. Can I ask a question about
- 9:38Speaker 1: Martin Garrix? Given how he played the closing set, was
- 9:41Speaker 1: his last song No Sleep and the fireworks went off? Um,
- 9:45Speaker 1: you know, I have to.
- 9:47Speaker 1: I have to tell you something. I wasn't at the
- 9:48Speaker 1: main stage for the last song. Wow. So I went, OK,
- 9:52Speaker 1: let me explain why. Let me explain why. OK. So
- 9:55Speaker 1: we went to the main stage while Steve Aoki was
- 9:58Speaker 1: still playing, which was the set before, very good set
- 10:01Speaker 1: he did. It was an amazing set. We hit. Honestly, I.
- 10:04Speaker 1: I was actually pleasantly surprised that it was he, he
- 10:07Speaker 1: did a super solid set. Tomorrowland is like the World
- 10:10Speaker 1: Cup for DJs. You have to be at your best
- 10:13Speaker 1: to play the best set. So, so then we then
- 10:16Speaker 1: stayed for Martin Garrix, um, because before he took the stage,
- 10:19Speaker 1: it's not just one DJ handover to the next.
- 10:22Speaker 1: There's a performance. There's a whole light show, fireworks. It's
- 10:26Speaker 1: an entire production, and then they introduced the, the finale act, right?
- 10:31Speaker 1: So that was beautiful. I stayed for that, and I
- 10:33Speaker 1: was wearing my Ray-Ban Meta glasses the whole time, so
- 10:35Speaker 1: I didn't have to use my phone. Um, played, we stayed,
- 10:39Speaker 1: we stayed for like half a set, and then we
- 10:41Speaker 1: decided to leave because
- 10:44Speaker 1: We wanted to go to another stage for the finale.
- 10:47Speaker 1: There were other DJs, so many other DJs that were
- 10:49Speaker 1: doing great closing sets. So I would say the only problem,
- 10:53Speaker 1: opening inverted commas, happy problem.
- 10:55Speaker 1: It is because of the fact that there's like, I
- 10:58Speaker 1: don't know how many hundreds of sets there were DJs playing,
- 11:01Speaker 1: you have to really pick and choose which one you
- 11:04Speaker 1: want to go for. Chances are you are not going
- 11:06Speaker 1: to stay for like one DJ's whole set, because you
- 11:09Speaker 1: want to finish up watching some other DJs, you know
- 11:11Speaker 1: what I mean? So you have to be strategic about it.
- 11:13Speaker 1: And we were discussing in a group like, what should
- 11:15Speaker 1: we do, what should we do, what should we do?
- 11:17Speaker 1: We say, you know what, in order to avoid
- 11:20Speaker 1: Um, squeezing with thousands, I think there was like 400,000
- 11:24Speaker 1: people at Tomorrowland, by the way, and the main stage
- 11:27Speaker 1: area is the most crowded. We decided to go to
- 11:29Speaker 1: a smaller stage so we didn't have to hustle out
- 11:31Speaker 1: of the crazy, uh, crowd from the main stage. So
- 11:34Speaker 1: that was a strategy. No regrets because I don't know
- 11:37Speaker 1: what DJ I caught at the end. It was so good.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Like we were screaming, we were euphoric. We were crying, laughing.
- 11:43Speaker 1: It's so many emotions. Now, if you're tuned in and
- 11:45Speaker 1: you have experiences with festivals here in Singapore like your
- 11:48Speaker 1: zoos or your ultras, right, you know zoo outs have
- 11:51Speaker 1: different stages as well. It's not as close to each
- 11:54Speaker 1: other as it is for and compared to Tomorrowland. You
- 11:57Speaker 1: can walk for half an hour to the next stage.
- 12:00Speaker 1: The other stage of Tomorrowland could be 2.5 km away. So, OK,
- 12:05Speaker 1: some are clustered.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Around a similar area, so it's not so bad, um,
- 12:09Speaker 1: but some are further out because maybe more complex or
- 12:11Speaker 1: you know, the experience is a bit different and all that.
- 12:13Speaker 1: So you have to really strategize and download the Tomorrowland app.
- 12:17Speaker 1: There's somewhat of a map in there as well that
- 12:19Speaker 1: you can follow and strategize. Can I ask one final question?
- 12:23Speaker 1: And this is more of a technical standpoint, OK. How
- 12:25Speaker 1: was the organization like? Was it top-notch?
- 12:29Speaker 1: It was very comfortable. The organizers knew what they were doing.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Everyone was well informed to give you more info. Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:35Speaker 1: So there are plenty of people standing around there. They
- 12:40Speaker 1: know where to point you out. Like you just ask them, Oh,
- 12:44Speaker 1: where is this? They know how to point you out
- 12:44Speaker 1: immediately because I think they've been doing this for long enough.
- 12:47Speaker 1: The only thing that us Singaporeans, I think, are not
- 12:50Speaker 1: going to be prepared for.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Is the walking, the walking in and out of the location. OK. No,
- 12:56Speaker 1: you're OK, but after a whole day of partying and
- 12:59Speaker 1: you do it repeatedly 3 times in a row, right,
- 13:01Speaker 1: you want to give up, you know, your feet. My
- 13:03Speaker 1: feet were breaking. I thought my toenail was falling off,
- 13:06Speaker 1: I swear. This reminds me of my days after walked
- 13:07Speaker 1: home to Bishan.
- 13:11Speaker 1: I'm sure, I'm sure. See, so you're well trained for this. No, um,
- 13:15Speaker 1: and I would say you have to do recovery. It's
- 13:19Speaker 1: like a marathon, so you have to really do. I
- 13:21Speaker 1: did like I soaked in a hot bath. I put
- 13:23Speaker 1: like bath salts, you know, um, stretch. It's really like
- 13:27Speaker 1: a marathon. That's what we were advised to do because
- 13:30Speaker 1: just when you think like, ah yeah, I can, I
- 13:31Speaker 1: can tahan, no, it's not, it's not the same.
- 13:34Speaker 1: If you're thinking about your local festivals here, it is
- 13:37Speaker 1: that times 50. OK, not even 10 times 50. Wow,
- 13:41Speaker 1: I have so many questions. OK, last one, last one,
- 13:44Speaker 1: last one, yeah, yeah, yeah. The drinks, you're like, OK,
- 13:48Speaker 1: let's not get too wasted on day one, day two.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Let's go all out on day three. Was that, was
- 13:52Speaker 1: that the plan? I mean, not say wasted, but you know,
- 13:55Speaker 1: like enjoy the.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Drinks and whatever they, I didn't really strategize when it
- 13:59Speaker 1: came to that. I just enjoyed myself like whenever, but
- 14:02Speaker 1: make sure you hydrate. It's very, very hot. So yeah,
- 14:05Speaker 1: electrolytes if you have liver of a 19 year old. Shockingly, yeah, oh,
- 14:11Speaker 1: the McDonald's there in Belgium, um, they had this Philly
- 14:17Speaker 1: cheesesteak burger. It was.
- 14:19Speaker 1: So good. The best recovery meal on earth. OK. You
- 14:22Speaker 1: will love it, I think. Anyway, I think it's too
- 14:24Speaker 1: much for me to cover on air in one single
- 14:27Speaker 1: talk set. Um, it's, you know, a lot of footage
- 14:30Speaker 1: and stories I want to share. I will do it
- 14:32Speaker 1: on my own platform over the next few days, which
- 14:34Speaker 1: I've seen the updates. It looks good lah. It's, you
- 14:39Speaker 1: gotta go I gotta go. I wanna cry thinking about
- 14:40Speaker 1: it again.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Kula right here on 987. She's embarked on new music
- 14:46Speaker 1: as well. Check it out if you please. We definitely
- 14:48Speaker 1: will have it on 987. So with Jenny dropping a
- 14:50Speaker 1: brand new single, I'm pretty sure Rose, Jissu, and Lisa
- 14:54Speaker 1: will follow suit very soon. I'm sure, I'm sure they're
- 14:56Speaker 1: all cooking. OK, so we go from K-pop to what's
- 14:59Speaker 1: happening here in Singapore on 9th.
- 15:01Speaker 1: August, in case you didn't know, it's National Day. It's
- 15:03Speaker 1: so soon, by the way, like time is flying by.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Can you believe it? We're counting down the last few
- 15:08Speaker 1: days of July already. I know, insane. We are into
- 15:11Speaker 1: the 3rd, no, the 4th quarter of the year very
- 15:16Speaker 1: soon if I'm not wrong. No, no, not yet. We're
- 15:18Speaker 1: in the 2nd half, 3rd quarter.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Third quarter. OK, yes. Hey, if it's Q4 now, I'm panicking, man.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Like how can it be Q4 will approach there very soon. Q3, Q3, sorry,
- 15:30Speaker 1: my math is out the window, but what I do
- 15:32Speaker 1: know is we got a pair of NDP tickets for you. Yes,
- 15:35Speaker 1: we do. Actual day, yeah. So I do have a
- 15:38Speaker 1: set of questions ready.
- 15:39Speaker 1: We cannot help you. It's actual day tickets. Everybody wants it,
- 15:44Speaker 1: but very few can have it. So be on standby
- 15:47Speaker 1: over at 669-119-87. Once you give it a cue to call,
- 15:51Speaker 1: you call us immediately.
- 15:53Speaker 1: And here's one more thing. If you think, OK, the
- 15:55Speaker 1: phone lines can be quite difficult, today at 12 p.m.
- 15:59Speaker 1: be on standby on 987's Instagram. So that's the thing,
- 16:02Speaker 1: we want to give you all kinds of opportunities. We're
- 16:05Speaker 1: thinking about it, OK, because I know some people can't
- 16:07Speaker 1: even use their phones now or have access to call
- 16:10Speaker 1: during this time if you're rushing. So there are options,
- 16:13Speaker 1: but ideally.
- 16:14Speaker 1: We'd love to hear from you in just a bit
- 16:15Speaker 1: with a really, really important experience for you. You cannot
- 16:20Speaker 1: miss it. National Day Parade, actual day, 9th of August.
- 16:24Speaker 1: We want you there at the National Stadium to be
- 16:27Speaker 1: among 42,000 people cheering and singing the songs and OK, again,
- 16:33Speaker 1: you would know this. Yeah. Preview one and two.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Very big difference in terms of the energy, but, but it's,
- 16:42Speaker 1: it's normal because you're coming from your shows, yeah, and
- 16:46Speaker 1: they're screaming at anything. So to the adults, we say
- 16:51Speaker 1: no need to scream at anything but be enthusiastic lah.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Bring the energy that you want to receive. I mean,
- 16:56Speaker 1: you ballot for the tickets. You want to be there,
- 16:58Speaker 1: enjoy the show and be a part of it because
- 17:00Speaker 1: you are. So what I have now are 3 questions.
- 17:03Speaker 1: You must get all 3 answers.
- 17:05Speaker 1: right. You cannot get two right, one wrong. No, all
- 17:08Speaker 1: three must be right. We cannot help you, but this
- 17:11Speaker 1: is pertaining to this year's NDP and a bit of
- 17:14Speaker 1: Singapore trivia. OK, so it's a mixture of everything, and you,
- 17:18Speaker 1: if you're hoping for some hints, it's not going to happen.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Because of the stakes are too high at this point. Yeah,
- 17:25Speaker 1: and I don't want people complaining saying, Son, you help them. No, no, no,
- 17:29Speaker 1: not at all, not at all. We play fair. So
- 17:31Speaker 1: give us a call right now. Sonny and Joakim here
- 17:33Speaker 1: with you this morning. A very exciting week of NDP tickets.
- 17:36Speaker 1: I cannot believe we are counting down to August already.
- 17:40Speaker 1: So quick. It's 29th of July. It's been one month
- 17:44Speaker 1: and 2 days since we started rehearsals at the National Stadium.
- 17:48Speaker 1: And I think in a very rare, in a very
- 17:51Speaker 1: rare twist of events, we have preview two on the
- 17:55Speaker 1: 1st of August and then National Day itself on the
- 17:59Speaker 1: 9th of August. So two shows in August. Oh, is
- 18:03Speaker 1: that usually Usually we end it in the last week
- 18:04Speaker 1: of July and then there's a bit of a break
- 18:06Speaker 1: and then National Day happens. Is it because it started,
- 18:09Speaker 1: the rehearsal start a bit later a little bit.
- 18:12Speaker 1: OK, I figured, I figured. Anyway, regardless, we want you
- 18:15Speaker 1: there because we've given away things like preview 2 tickets.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Now we have the actual day tickets as well. We
- 18:20Speaker 1: want you there. Yeah, so we are going to head
- 18:21Speaker 1: to the phone lines now. Hello. Hi, this is Lim.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Good morning. Good morning, Linn. Hopefully you win it and
- 18:28Speaker 1: you'll be there August 9th at National Stadium. Are you
- 18:30Speaker 1: ready for your NDP quiz? I'm ready. All right, here
- 18:33Speaker 1: we go. Lim, you're very.
- 18:35Speaker 1: First question. Name us the singers of the song Sparkle
- 18:40Speaker 1: from this year's NDP. Is it A, Benjamin King and Cesaire,
- 18:44Speaker 1: or B, Gareth Hernandez and Drew Chen? 5, B. B
- 18:48Speaker 1: is correct. Your next question, what does fu de jois
- 18:53Speaker 1: mean in English? Is it A, fire of joy, or B,
- 18:57Speaker 1: rounds of joy?
- 19:00Speaker 1: A is correct. One more question. In 1984, Singapore had
- 19:05Speaker 1: our first local blockbuster drama series. What was it called?
- 19:10Speaker 1: Is it A, Price of Peace or B, The Awakening? 5.
- 19:14Speaker 1: The Awakening. The Awakening is correct. Well done. Congratulations.
- 19:21Speaker 1: wow, with no fear at all. He was shot on
- 19:25Speaker 1: point all the way joking. Who, The Awakening starring Huan
- 19:28Speaker 1: Wen Yong and Yin. Dude, I have to admit I
- 19:31Speaker 1: didn't even know what that was from 1984. I had
- 19:34Speaker 1: no idea that was the first one. And apparently everywhere
- 19:37Speaker 1: in Singapore, when the show started, you can hear all
- 19:40Speaker 1: the TVs playing the theme songs at the exact same time.
- 19:43Speaker 1: I love that. I love that. OK, well, congratulations and
- 19:46Speaker 1: please enjoy yourself on the 9th of August. Woohoo.
- 19:50Speaker 1: And now remember, gentle reminder, every morning this week, we
- 19:54Speaker 1: have Alex Warren tickets coming your way. Yes, and not
- 19:56Speaker 1: forgetting National Day tickets as well. And Sonia was just
- 20:00Speaker 1: catching up with me about her Tomorrowland experience and I
- 20:03Speaker 1: just went to YouTube and I Googled Heartwell Tomorrowland 2026. Yeah,
- 20:06Speaker 1: the set is up closing set is up and I
- 20:09Speaker 1: paused it at the fireworks moments. I'm so jealous you
- 20:13Speaker 1: get to experience all this. No, but hey, don't, don't
- 20:16Speaker 1: even worry, this happens every year.
- 20:17Speaker 1: And there are like multiple different versions of Tomorrowland. So
- 20:21Speaker 1: maybe you hit up one at least each time, at
- 20:24Speaker 1: least once. I mean, I pray I get a campaign
- 20:27Speaker 1: just like yours and, you know what, if not, even
- 20:31Speaker 1: regardless of that, you should just do it anyway. It's
- 20:34Speaker 1: the kind of thing where you should do it for yourself.
- 20:35Speaker 1: And if the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the Swedish
- 20:39Speaker 1: House Mafia, Awell in Grosso and Steve Angelo, if they're spinning,
- 20:43Speaker 1: I have to be there.
- 20:46Speaker 1: For sure, it's uh it's it's amazing. But what was
- 20:49Speaker 1: not so amazing.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Was getting out of Belgium altogether. No, no, no, no, no, no,
- 20:56Speaker 1: it wasn't just about. No, it wasn't just me. The
- 20:58Speaker 1: entire airport experienced the same thing, OK, which I haven't
- 21:02Speaker 1: even filled in my family much about it. I gave
- 21:05Speaker 1: them a TLDR summary, um, while I was there because
- 21:08Speaker 1: I was actually lowkey very worried that I might miss
- 21:10Speaker 1: my flight, and you know, because of the time difference
- 21:12Speaker 1: and everything, and there's not, uh, not every day do
- 21:16Speaker 1: flights come out of Belgium directly to Singapore. It's not
- 21:18Speaker 1: a daily thing.
- 21:20Speaker 1: I'm gonna fill you in in just a bit and
- 21:22Speaker 1: open up the phone lines, OK? Don't worry, I didn't
- 21:24Speaker 1: do anything. Like it's not the kind of thing where
- 21:26Speaker 1: like I showed up late or whatever. I didn't I
- 21:29Speaker 1: can only imagine what 400,000 people trying to leave Belgium
- 21:33Speaker 1: at the same time. But I'm guessing not everyone was
- 21:35Speaker 1: as crazy as me to leave the day after the
- 21:37Speaker 1: morning after, right? But you'd be surprised actually. I think
- 21:41Speaker 1: half the people there were trying to do that. All
- 21:43Speaker 1: the details next, um, wanted to catch you up on
- 21:45Speaker 1: what you missed.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Aside from Joakim being quite lonely over the past few days,
- 21:50Speaker 1: he's been complaining to me. The moment I came back,
- 21:52Speaker 1: I mean, not in a clingy sense, but you know, the,
- 21:55Speaker 1: the show, I know there were so many controversial things
- 21:58Speaker 1: that happened in Singapore the last few days that you
- 22:00Speaker 1: weren't around. You wish you could have shared, because at
- 22:05Speaker 1: this point, people know me as the bad cop and
- 22:06Speaker 1: you're the good cop. You're the nice one. I'm the
- 22:09Speaker 1: more straightforward and you know, I'll say what I think
- 22:12Speaker 1: kind of guy.
- 22:13Speaker 1: So now that you're back, this is not controversial at all.
- 22:16Speaker 1: It's just about, you know, how everyone always talks about
- 22:20Speaker 1: how much fun we have at festivals like Tomorrowland, which
- 22:22Speaker 1: is epic, epic. You have to experience it at least
- 22:25Speaker 1: once in your life, especially if you love music. I
- 22:27Speaker 1: highly recommend it. But be prepared for the journey out
- 22:32Speaker 1: of Tomorrowland. For example, some of my friends, um, big
- 22:35Speaker 1: shout out to, you know, friends like Eddo, Saffron, and
- 22:38Speaker 1: I Sing, 4 of us hung out a lot.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Through work, we met and you know, we really clicked,
- 22:43Speaker 1: so we, we, we just want to spend a lot
- 22:46Speaker 1: of time together now. Yeah, they carried on their journey
- 22:50Speaker 1: to Amsterdam because one of them was celebrating their birthday. So, um,
- 22:54Speaker 1: I think they stayed another 2 more days and then, yeah,
- 22:57Speaker 1: you carry on your travels because you're in Europe, it's
- 22:58Speaker 1: very easy to get around the train and all that, right?
- 23:01Speaker 1: But because I have to be back for work, um,
- 23:03Speaker 1: I had no choice but to select the flight that
- 23:05Speaker 1: was the day after.
- 23:07Speaker 1: And um I didn't know this, but despite Brussels being
- 23:11Speaker 1: quite a happening city, there's only, there was only one
- 23:14Speaker 1: option on Singapore Airlines to fly out on that day,
- 23:17Speaker 1: and they don't fly out every day if I'm not wrong.
- 23:20Speaker 1: So no choice. I had to take the 11:45 flight out,
- 23:23Speaker 1: 11:45 a.m. flight out on Monday.
- 23:27Speaker 1: And as you know, with with Tomorrowland final day, there's
- 23:30Speaker 1: going to be after parties, you know, I have to
- 23:32Speaker 1: rush to pack and all that. So I slept one
- 23:34Speaker 1: hour and then I went to the airport.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Here's why. Here's why, because I, I already know that
- 23:43Speaker 1: um overseas, you cannot expect the same level of efficiency
- 23:46Speaker 1: as Singapore. You already know this, right? On top of that,
- 23:49Speaker 1: it is big festival weekend. They're expecting, I don't know,
- 23:53Speaker 1: millions of travelers in and out of Brussels. So I
- 23:56Speaker 1: got there about 3.5 hours earlier, which is already earlier
- 24:01Speaker 1: than my typical timing.
- 24:04Speaker 1: And even so, Joakim, I would say that might not
- 24:07Speaker 1: have been enough because of what I experienced. OK. So
- 24:11Speaker 1: what happened was I went to the counter. Singapore Airlines
- 24:13Speaker 1: counter wasn't too bad actually, um, although other airlines look
- 24:16Speaker 1: quite packed, not too bad. I went up there, everything
- 24:18Speaker 1: check-in was smooth. I think I was one of the
- 24:20Speaker 1: earlier ones actually that checked in.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Then they, the guy at the counter said, hey, ma'am,
- 24:26Speaker 1: we're so sorry, but our baggage belt has broken down.
- 24:31Speaker 1: And it's not just the Singapore Airlines baggage belt in Brussels,
- 24:34Speaker 1: it's across the entire airport.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Have you ever heard of this happening? I'm guessing. There
- 24:41Speaker 1: was a glitch or something technical glitch and the belts
- 24:45Speaker 1: weren't working. So basically they couldn't transport the baggage and
- 24:48Speaker 1: sieve it into the various airlines, right? So he said,
- 24:52Speaker 1: so sorry about this, but you're gonna have to bring
- 24:53Speaker 1: your luggage to counter 12 and drop it there.
- 24:56Speaker 1: But the way he said it was so casual, like
- 24:58Speaker 1: this happens all the time, right? So I thought, how
- 25:00Speaker 1: bad could it be? I'm just, OK, I'll go to
- 25:01Speaker 1: counter 12, no worries. Oh my God, dude, the queue,
- 25:05Speaker 1: it was like literally all the airlines and doesn't matter
- 25:08Speaker 1: whether you're on economy, premium economy, business, or first class,
- 25:11Speaker 1: you go queue up in the same line, in the
- 25:13Speaker 1: same line, you know.
- 25:14Speaker 1: So I looked at my watch and I was like, OK,
- 25:17Speaker 1: I still have some time. Although I was starving, I
- 25:20Speaker 1: was dehydrated from the night before the whole weekend. I
- 25:24Speaker 1: was just hoping to get to some food like or
- 25:26Speaker 1: the lounge or something, get some water and food, um,
- 25:29Speaker 1: queued up. There was an American guy behind me that
- 25:33Speaker 1: was also going to be boarding Singapore Airlines. I think
- 25:35Speaker 1: he saw me in the concert, so he asked me like,
- 25:38Speaker 1: is this for all the airlines? I was like, yeah,
- 25:40Speaker 1: I think no choice, you know.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Things started getting heated after a while because people started
- 25:45Speaker 1: cutting queues, um, started just joining the line in the,
- 25:48Speaker 1: like they're not going to the back of the line
- 25:50Speaker 1: to queue up. They were just cutting us, they were
- 25:52Speaker 1: just cutting us because they didn't want to queue up anymore.
- 25:55Speaker 1: And you know me, I'm this small Asian solo traveler,
- 25:58Speaker 1: small Asian girl, OK. Of course, people are going to
- 26:00Speaker 1: be like trying to push me over, right?
- 26:03Speaker 1: My, um, fierce Sonia came out. Yes, yes, OK, OK.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Angry Sonia came out, not angry, but I was very stern.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Sonia and because it doesn't help that I'm physically so
- 26:15Speaker 1: small and like the Europeans are so big, but you
- 26:17Speaker 1: are big on personality. Come on. So I, I, I
- 26:20Speaker 1: wasn't having it anymore because a lot of them were
- 26:22Speaker 1: just trying to cut us, right? And even the American
- 26:24Speaker 1: guy behind me, he was so done. Like he was, um,
- 26:28Speaker 1: he was also snapping and like telling them, go move behind,
- 26:30Speaker 1: you're not allowed to, you shouldn't be doing this like.
- 26:33Speaker 1: And twice did I, I didn't lose it, but I
- 26:36Speaker 1: was very stern about it. The first time.
- 26:38Speaker 1: It was um a couple that tried to cut me.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Like they just acted like, like nothing happening, no. They
- 26:43Speaker 1: just acted stood stood in front of me. I said,
- 26:45Speaker 1: excuse me, and they're like one head taller than me. No, no, no, no.
- 26:48Speaker 1: I was, excuse me, can you please be good people
- 26:50Speaker 1: and go behind? Just go behind, be good, be good people,
- 26:53Speaker 1: go behind. We've waited for so long already go behind,
- 26:55Speaker 1: and they like, they really went behind. And the next
- 26:58Speaker 1: time around it was a family. I think they were,
- 27:01Speaker 1: doesn't matter where they're from, but I think European, their
- 27:03Speaker 1: English wasn't so good.
- 27:04Speaker 1: They tried to just literally like in a local sense
- 27:08Speaker 1: bo bodo, you know, you know what your parents will
- 27:10Speaker 1: say your grandma say bo bodo right act stupid, just
- 27:13Speaker 1: stand there. I was like, hey guys, this is not
- 27:15Speaker 1: very nice of you like please move back now you're not,
- 27:18Speaker 1: you can stand behind me go behind. OK, stand behind
- 27:21Speaker 1: the American guy. He's very nice.
- 27:26Speaker 1: So basically you have been so proud of me, Joe.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Basically you can cut anyone else's queue, not mine. Don't go.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Don't cut us and my friend behind me, this guy
- 27:33Speaker 1: I just made friends with. Go behind.
- 27:37Speaker 1: In that moment, right, I was thinking how proud Joe
- 27:40Speaker 1: would be of me standing up for myself. The only
- 27:44Speaker 1: thing I'm worried about, I obviously won't, is different. The
- 27:47Speaker 1: situation was very different there. I don't think I would
- 27:49Speaker 1: act like that in Singapore, but over there, I think
- 27:52Speaker 1: you've really got to fend for yourself. If not, you're
- 27:54Speaker 1: gonna get pushed over. It was a crazy situation, chaotic,
- 27:57Speaker 1: and people were screaming at each other. Even immigration was bad.
- 28:01Speaker 1: It was people were having meltdowns. So, uh, long story short,
- 28:07Speaker 1: is the luggage back? No, I didn't get my luggage.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Long story short, I want to give a big shout
- 28:12Speaker 1: out to SQ I think 303. I think 80% of
- 28:15Speaker 1: the luggage didn't make it back. I'm hoping mine will
- 28:18Speaker 1: make it back very soon.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Um, but I wanted to open up phone lines right now, OK? 669-11987.
- 28:24Speaker 1: I know that for us as Asians, we may be
- 28:27Speaker 1: a bit more meek and we don't want to stand
- 28:29Speaker 1: up for ourselves. I disagree. No, I know, but I
- 28:31Speaker 1: think it's been ingrained in us that we're a little
- 28:33Speaker 1: bit more meek, usually, usually, OK.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Um, what would you have done in my situation, because
- 28:39Speaker 1: I'm only giving you the, the little, uh, chip of
- 28:42Speaker 1: the block, OK. There's more, there's more that happened, but
- 28:45Speaker 1: I don't want to get too much into it. It's
- 28:47Speaker 1: too long of a story. This is where I want
- 28:48Speaker 1: to bring my entitled Singaporeans, entitled Singaporeans to go and fight. Yeah, yeah,
- 28:53Speaker 1: entitled you are. I have to fight my own battles,
- 28:57Speaker 1: especially when you're traveling alone. So give us a call 669-11987.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Would you be able to stand up and fend for
- 29:05Speaker 1: yourself in these situations, or do you feel like you
- 29:08Speaker 1: are someone who may just be, might be pushed over?
- 29:11Speaker 1: If there is a story that you experience as well,
- 29:14Speaker 1: let us know. Let us know. In exchange, you've got
- 29:16Speaker 1: a lovely Korean dining experience coming your way.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Thanks to our friends over at Dream Gold. It's an
- 29:22Speaker 1: experience worth over $100. Lovely. Um, please give us a
- 29:26Speaker 1: call right now, 669-11987. Now, with all the hype and
- 29:30Speaker 1: the euphoria of Tomorrowland and everything that Joakim was grilling
- 29:34Speaker 1: me about this morning.
- 29:36Speaker 1: Also comes a bit of anxiety when it comes to
- 29:39Speaker 1: uh the traveling back home. Yeah, like I was sharing earlier,
- 29:42Speaker 1: the airport was absolute chaos. Uh, there was also, there
- 29:45Speaker 1: was also DJs still spinning there and everything. The party continued.
- 29:48Speaker 1: And at the same time, baggage belt broke down, um,
- 29:52Speaker 1: immigration lines were so long, a lot of people in
- 29:54Speaker 1: the line missed their flights. People were screaming, shouting, having meltdowns.
- 29:58Speaker 1: I was just there like, what can I do? This
- 30:01Speaker 1: is beyond my control.
- 30:02Speaker 1: I had to stand up for myself. People were trying
- 30:05Speaker 1: to cut my queue and and everything and just being rude.
- 30:08Speaker 1: So my question today after sharing my story earlier on was,
- 30:13Speaker 1: as Asians, I think sometimes we're a bit more meek
- 30:16Speaker 1: and we don't stand up for ourselves enough, but in
- 30:18Speaker 1: these
- 30:19Speaker 1: Situations, I feel like it is important that we don't
- 30:22Speaker 1: get pushed over because you don't want to miss your flight.
- 30:25Speaker 1: You know why I disagree with Asians being meek and
- 30:28Speaker 1: not standing up for ourselves? Can I name you one
- 30:31Speaker 1: place where loads of drama happen? You ready? Woodlands Checkpoint.
- 30:37Speaker 1: OK, but it, it, it is slightly different though, I feel. OK,
- 30:40Speaker 1: here is Thomas's text. OK. Hey, Sonia and Joakim, there
- 30:43Speaker 1: was once I was at the queue at Woodlands Customs,
- 30:45Speaker 1: and it was a crazy crowd. Same thing. People were
- 30:48Speaker 1: cutting queues here and there. Then there was this gangster
- 30:50Speaker 1: type guy who cut queue in front of me, so
- 30:52Speaker 1: I told him.
- 30:53Speaker 1: And he shouted back, people behind you never make noise.
- 30:56Speaker 1: You make so much noise for what? So I turned
- 30:58Speaker 1: to the person behind me and asked, Are you OK
- 31:00Speaker 1: with this? And the person just, don't know, don't know,
- 31:03Speaker 1: you see, yeah, you see, because majority of people, especially Asians,
- 31:07Speaker 1: I'm not typecasting, but majority of people don't dare to
- 31:10Speaker 1: speak up. Sorry, why do I feel as if I'm
- 31:13Speaker 1: Thomas and the person behind me is you?
- 31:17Speaker 1: Yeah, but because I was alone, I got no choice.
- 31:19Speaker 1: I have, I have to take on the, I have
- 31:21Speaker 1: to take on the role. OK, one more coming in
- 31:24Speaker 1: from Rosalie. Rosali says, morning, Sonia and Joakim. Sonia, your
- 31:28Speaker 1: story reminds me of what happened to me in Jakarta
- 31:30Speaker 1: last year. We were at the security check and there
- 31:32Speaker 1: was this Australian lady who went to me and said
- 31:34Speaker 1: her flight was going off soon and whether she can
- 31:36Speaker 1: go in front. I said, no, mine is leaving soon too,
- 31:40Speaker 1: 45 minutes to go. In the end, guess what? We're
- 31:43Speaker 1: on the same flight.
- 31:47Speaker 1: That must have been awkward, quite awkward. Yeah next to
- 31:50Speaker 1: each other. Pear is on the line right now. What happened?
- 31:56Speaker 2: Yeah, so back when I was traveling, I think last
- 31:59Speaker 2: year or 2 years ago I went to Tibet, and
- 32:00Speaker 2: so Tibet is like mountainous high altitude area. So we,
- 32:04Speaker 2: we went to one of these mountain, uh, 4000 m
- 32:07Speaker 2: above sea level and then we were all queuing up for.
- 32:10Speaker 2: This one photo spot and so, uh, within the country itself,
- 32:13Speaker 2: I mean many of the Chinese people, they will actually
- 32:15Speaker 2: do like local travels themselves and then this one uncle
- 32:19Speaker 2: that was old enough to be my grandfather decided to
- 32:22Speaker 2: cut the queue and just started taking photos for him
- 32:24Speaker 2: and his partner there. And then I was so mad
- 32:27Speaker 2: that I just like raised my voice at him and
- 32:29Speaker 2: I started scolding him.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Yeah, and the thing was I'm guessing that he was.
- 32:34Speaker 1: nice about it. Like he didn't ask or say anything. Yeah,
- 32:38Speaker 2: and like he, he started talking back to me and
- 32:40Speaker 2: all that. Then I was just like, what kind of
- 32:42Speaker 2: example are you setting as like an older generation like
- 32:44Speaker 2: these younger generations over here. Like everyone is just like
- 32:48Speaker 2: lining up over here, like
- 32:50Speaker 2: what are you doing?
- 32:51Speaker 1: I think if the situation was slightly different if he
- 32:54Speaker 1: had asked you nicely, you might not have reacted the
- 32:57Speaker 1: same way.
- 32:57Speaker 1: You might have let him go because he's also a
- 32:59Speaker 1: lot older, right?
- 33:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and like he had the audacity to be like, no,
- 33:02Speaker 2: I was queuing here a while. I was just like, no,
- 33:05Speaker 2: I've been here for the past like 5 minutes and
- 33:07Speaker 2: I didn't even see you in the queue. You just
- 33:09Speaker 2: cut to the front. The
- 33:10Speaker 1: audacity, but you know what? I'm so sad that it
- 33:13Speaker 1: happened in Tibet of all places the Dalai Lama shaking
- 33:18Speaker 1: his head right now. He's shaking his head.
- 33:21Speaker 1: That's the thing, sometimes the place that you go to
- 33:24Speaker 1: or the places that you visit can be so peaceful
- 33:26Speaker 1: and beautiful, but the people make it ugly, you know.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Well, thank you so much for sharing your story and
- 33:33Speaker 1: I'm so glad that you are fiery and feisty and
- 33:35Speaker 1: you stood up for yourself. You're my inspiration. Take care.
- 33:39Speaker 1: Come on, great song. He reminds, he's giving me a
- 33:42Speaker 1: bit of like Bruno Mars. You know what, on TikTok
- 33:45Speaker 1: right now, are people calling him Singapore Bruno Mars? This
- 33:48Speaker 1: Gareth Fernandez, one song, 70,000.
- 33:52Speaker 1: Videos going out on TikTok and Instagram. He's so proud
- 33:54Speaker 1: of it. I love it. And the PIAs are calling him, yes,
- 33:57Speaker 1: Singapore Bruno Mars. Yeah, he really comes across as him. Yeah,
- 34:00Speaker 1: so well done to Gareth and Drew. Anyway, um, back
- 34:02Speaker 1: to our topic of the day, and we're going back
- 34:04Speaker 1: to more messages. Are you able to stand up for
- 34:07Speaker 1: yourself in situations that require you to be a bit
- 34:10Speaker 1: more fierce, because I personally experienced that at the.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Very, very hectic, chaotic Brussels Airport right after Tomorrowland. I
- 34:18Speaker 1: literally slept one hour. I went to the airport. I
- 34:20Speaker 1: big mistake. I'm so happy you did. I'm so happy
- 34:24Speaker 1: got a taste of angry Sonia. OK, it's about time
- 34:27Speaker 1: you left some chili markings, they got all versions of me, man,
- 34:31Speaker 1: and you know the theme of Tomorrowland this year is
- 34:33Speaker 1: all about feelings.
- 34:36Speaker 1: And all the different facets of emotions and feelings. So
- 34:39Speaker 1: I delivered. What do you make it sound like inside out? Anyway,
- 34:42Speaker 1: I wanna say good morning to Afa. Morning, both of you.
- 34:45Speaker 1: My family and I were going on a cruise a
- 34:47Speaker 1: few years back. We were at the Marina Cruise Center
- 34:50Speaker 1: when it just opened. The queue systems were all not
- 34:52Speaker 1: sorted yet, so the crowd was crazy. My sister-in-law was
- 34:55Speaker 1: carrying her.
- 34:55Speaker 1: Two year old child and this huge man just shoved
- 34:58Speaker 1: it into both me and my sister-in-law trying to cut
- 35:00Speaker 1: the queue. I just exploded and went, Excuse me, you blind.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Is it people carrying child, also you want to push.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Got no patience to wait. Ah. Everyone was waiting, right?
- 35:10Speaker 1: The guy was about to shout back but chose not to,
- 35:12Speaker 1: and he saw my brother standing behind me staring back
- 35:14Speaker 1: at him.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Scared, right? I wonder how her brother looks like. Is
- 35:20Speaker 1: her brother like really, I don't know. I mean, not brothers.
- 35:25Speaker 1: So it can be quite intimidating, you know what I mean? See,
- 35:27Speaker 1: this is the time where I wish I had brothers, yeah,
- 35:30Speaker 1: but like.
- 35:32Speaker 1: Brothers to the, you know, my actual blood brothers to
- 35:35Speaker 1: fight my battles, you know, I mean, here you got me,
- 35:38Speaker 1: got Avery. How many people I can fight my own battles, OK.
- 35:42Speaker 1: You got muttons.
- 35:44Speaker 1: I think forget it. Like, I better stand up for myself.
- 35:48Speaker 1: In fact, I think y'all, all of you collectively will
- 35:51Speaker 1: just stand there and watch me see and see how
- 35:53Speaker 1: I fight my battles. Actually, you are right. I'll it
- 35:55Speaker 1: down for you. So I'm like, hello, where's the defending here? Like, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 36:00Speaker 1: that may go viral. That's the kind of support I need, right?
- 36:04Speaker 1: We've got Tammy on the line. Tammy, do you feel
- 36:06Speaker 1: like you're the kind of person that will stand up
- 36:08Speaker 1: for yourself? I think definitely I would stand up for
- 36:11Speaker 1: myself because I'm the confrontational kind. I'm not really the
- 36:15Speaker 1: kind to care so much about like
- 36:16Speaker 1: Um, what the other person feels, I think like not
- 36:19Speaker 1: standing up for yourself is too underrated these days. I
- 36:22Speaker 1: think sometimes we care too much about what other people think. Yeah,
- 36:27Speaker 1: you think we care too much about what other people
- 36:27Speaker 1: think we're conscious of ourselves. No, no, no, I think
- 36:30Speaker 1: I worry about that when I'm in Singapore. OK, because,
- 36:33Speaker 1: because of our jobs and the secondary things that it
- 36:36Speaker 1: comes along with it. But honestly, even here in Singapore, right,
- 36:39Speaker 1: there is a way I'll say, bro, come on lah.
- 36:41Speaker 1: I've been here for so long, lah. But I think
- 36:43Speaker 1: in 10.
- 36:45Speaker 1: Situations like that, um, there's no way around it. I
- 36:48Speaker 1: have to stand up for myself. I wasn't, I wasn't vulgar.
- 36:50Speaker 1: I wasn't, you know, like unreasonable. I was just merely
- 36:54Speaker 1: looking out for myself. So if you're tuned in to us,
- 36:56Speaker 1: what I'm gonna say is this, if you ever see
- 36:58Speaker 1: a video of me or Sonia blowing up at the queue,
- 37:00Speaker 1: you know what happened, OK? We are standing up for
- 37:03Speaker 1: ourselves because someone cut our line and it's probably not
- 37:05Speaker 1: in Singapore. I don't think I've ever, I've ever found
- 37:09Speaker 1: myself in that situation here. OK, good. Yeah, I'll just
- 37:11Speaker 1: keep quiet.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Fair enough. OK Singapore. Formula One is happening very soon.
- 37:15Speaker 1: We'll see what happens. Yeah, especially the drinks queue. No,
- 37:19Speaker 1: but what I will say is that it gave me
- 37:22Speaker 1: a lot of gratitude for what we have in Singapore. Truly, truly.
- 37:26Speaker 1: With our last few messages of the morning, talking about
- 37:29Speaker 1: standing up for yourself in certain situations, I was just
- 37:32Speaker 1: sharing about my chaotic experience at Brussels Airport post Tomorrowland,
- 37:36Speaker 1: which by the way, if you're ever intending to go,
- 37:39Speaker 1: I suggest you.
- 37:40Speaker 1: Give yourself at least 4 hours. Go there 4 hours early.
- 37:43Speaker 1: I know it sounds crazy, but 4 hours might be
- 37:47Speaker 1: the perfect timing to get to the airport, to get
- 37:49Speaker 1: to the airport, yeah, because you don't know what's going
- 37:50Speaker 1: to happen, and it's a chock full of people trying
- 37:54Speaker 1: to get out of there. Or most people would take
- 37:56Speaker 1: the train from Belgium to Paris and they'll fly back
- 37:59Speaker 1: from Charles de Gaulle Airport, but it's more expensive, yeah,
- 38:02Speaker 1: a little bit, so you just, you gotta wait it out.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Want to say good morning to Eric. Good morning, Sonia
- 38:06Speaker 1: and Joakim. Actually, when Sonia told the guy to move back.
- 38:09Speaker 1: She should have sung out loud, Stand up for Singapore.
- 38:12Speaker 1: Do the best you can. This reminds me of Awkwafina's
- 38:15Speaker 1: character in Shang-Chi where she sings Hotel California. True, true, true.
- 38:20Speaker 1: I mean, I only saw like maybe 2 or 3
- 38:23Speaker 1: other Singaporeans in the line though.
- 38:25Speaker 1: They were very quiet. They didn't confront anyone. I mean,
- 38:28Speaker 1: maybe no one cut their cue lah. Yeah. I want
- 38:31Speaker 1: to say good morning to DY. Morning, S and J.
- 38:33Speaker 1: My wife is the one who will voice and stand
- 38:35Speaker 1: up to such misbehavior. Let's go. But sometimes I have
- 38:38Speaker 1: to tell her to pipe down or hold it in
- 38:40Speaker 1: if it's a guy I can't take on.
- 38:45Speaker 1: I'm not a big guy, but I think I can
- 38:46Speaker 1: hold my own. I'm also not itching or looking for
- 38:48Speaker 1: a fight, but I assess the situation and think if
- 38:51Speaker 1: this is escalated, can I take control of it, then
- 38:53Speaker 1: I just live with it long. Yeah, yeah, that's, that's
- 38:55Speaker 1: a good point.
- 38:57Speaker 1: If it's a guy I can't take on, got me, man.
- 38:59Speaker 1: I mean, you got to pick your battles lah. It's true.
- 39:02Speaker 1: I mean, I wasn't gonna, I wasn't gonna get into
- 39:04Speaker 1: a physical fight, that's for sure. I mean, my younger
- 39:06Speaker 1: days at zoo, right, sometimes you bump into a guy
- 39:08Speaker 1: by accident, you turn, you see a muscular dude. Hey bro, sorry, sorry, sorry,
- 39:13Speaker 1: but you see someone my size, hey, hey, hey, I
- 39:18Speaker 1: know you. I know you and foolish. Why do I
- 39:20Speaker 1: feel like I might have seen that?
- 39:21Speaker 1: Yeah, so many times you have. Thanks for joining the studio.
- 39:26Speaker 1: I can see that. I can see that. Love the album,
- 39:28Speaker 1: by the way. Hey, you know what, um, the whole
- 39:31Speaker 1: of today we had great conversations, and we, we find
- 39:34Speaker 1: it always really difficult to pick our winner. But for today,
- 39:39Speaker 1: thank you for your call earlier telling us about Tibet. Perlin, congratulations.
- 39:46Speaker 1: And congratulations, this one's yours. Um, in case you missed
- 39:49Speaker 1: out on the whole convo over the past what, hour almost,
- 39:53Speaker 1: it was about me setting up for myself at Brussels Airport.
- 39:57Speaker 1: I'm so proud of you in a super chaotic situation
- 40:00Speaker 1: where everyone was having a meltdown trying to get their
- 40:03Speaker 1: baggage in because the baggage belt broke down, immigration queue
- 40:06Speaker 1: was so long.
- 40:08Speaker 1: Um, and you know, I think there is a certain
- 40:10Speaker 1: stereotype almost my friends say in Europe, you've got to
- 40:13Speaker 1: give yourself more time when you go there. I was
- 40:16Speaker 1: 3.5 hours, it's true. I was 3.5 hours early. I
- 40:20Speaker 1: would recommend 4 hours if you are coming out of
- 40:22Speaker 1: a big weekend like Tomorrowland, for example, yeah. Having traveled
- 40:26Speaker 1: to places like Scotland, England, Germany, and all that, yes,
- 40:30Speaker 1: give yourselves more time. 100%. And I'm also very happy
- 40:33Speaker 1: that Brussels now has a taste of angry Sonnia.
- 40:37Speaker 1: Yes, girl. That's me. Left my mark behind for sure. Perlin,
- 40:42Speaker 1: what's coming your way? It's a very nice dining experience
- 40:44Speaker 1: to dream gold. So there's Dream and there's Dream gold
- 40:47Speaker 1: over at We at Sentosa. So please go and enjoy
- 40:50Speaker 1: some exclusive cuts of meat done Korean style for you.
- 40:53Speaker 1: I'm jealous. Yeah, we walked past it. I walked past it,
- 40:56Speaker 1: I think like last week. It's super fancy. Like even
- 40:59Speaker 1: the exterior looks really luxurious, really fancy, and they're all
- 41:03Speaker 1: ready to serve you. I think very.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Legit delicious food also. I was at Weave recently and
- 41:08Speaker 1: I saw loads of very nice fairy lights, could make
- 41:11Speaker 1: a nice photoshoot as well. And it's right next to
- 41:13Speaker 1: Universal Studios Singapore and the oceanarium. Yeah. So to catch
- 41:16Speaker 1: up with all the best conversations and stories about standing
- 41:20Speaker 1: up for yourself or maybe not standing up for yourself,
- 41:23Speaker 1: especially in high tense, very tense situations, log on to
- 41:26Speaker 1: me Listen and Spotify after the show. It's 7, but
- 41:29Speaker 1: Martin Garrix actually just dropped a fresh track with you too,
- 41:31Speaker 1: of all people.
- 41:33Speaker 1: Over the weekend and debuted it during Tomorrowland, so you'll
- 41:35Speaker 1: hear it very soon on our show. So are you
- 41:37Speaker 1: and Martin Garrix on DM you? No, no, we literally
- 41:42Speaker 1: met for like one minute. Can DM him asking to
- 41:44Speaker 1: come back to Singapore. I love animals. OK, anyway, um,
- 41:48Speaker 1: in the world of AI and fake videos and all that,
- 41:52Speaker 1: you know how sometimes, and this is me being all conspiracy, OK.
- 41:57Speaker 1: Some countries have organizations that disrupt other nations sometimes in
- 42:03Speaker 1: crucial points like elections or they try to destabilize a country, right,
- 42:08Speaker 1: but this is a theory. It's a theory or sometimes
- 42:11Speaker 1: it's proven that it has happened, OK.
- 42:14Speaker 1: Unfortunately, I feel Singapore is not the target of such
- 42:18Speaker 1: actions and events for real, where maybe people from overseas
- 42:22Speaker 1: or other countries, they are trying to destabilize our harmony.
- 42:26Speaker 1: They're trying to spread false info about Singapore and because
- 42:30Speaker 1: people are consuming so much of social media videos and
- 42:32Speaker 1: all that, it's hard to clarify what's true and what's not. Yeah,
- 42:35Speaker 1: and they can't tell what's real and fake to which
- 42:38Speaker 1: have a point. So apparently recently it was discovered that
- 42:40Speaker 1: there were 260 videos of Jack.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Ma talking about Singapore, but it's all lies and negative
- 42:49Speaker 1: information and false information such as any examples of like
- 42:53Speaker 1: I mean it's all unfortunately it's all in Mandarin, I
- 42:56Speaker 1: don't understand, but it's things about how Singapore is biased
- 42:59Speaker 1: towards one race or that kind of thing false information
- 43:00Speaker 1: I feel. So apparently the image of Jack Ma is
- 43:06Speaker 1: not Jack Ma himself. It's all AI generated and if
- 43:10Speaker 1: you were to search these videos, sometimes it might still
- 43:13Speaker 1: appear in your.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Google searches. So I think the powers that be here
- 43:16Speaker 1: in Singapore are working hard to really suppress the video spread.
- 43:19Speaker 1: I mean here in Singapore. They have a whole organization.
- 43:22Speaker 1: They have a whole unit to do this, right? And
- 43:24Speaker 1: that's what we've been preparing for for many years. Not
- 43:27Speaker 1: just Jack Ma, but on TikTok, you have all these
- 43:30Speaker 1: pretty looking newscasters, but they are actually AI. I see,
- 43:34Speaker 1: I see those all spreading false info about Singapore as well.
- 43:37Speaker 1: So again, now is the time. I don't want to
- 43:39Speaker 1: sound like the National Day host, but uh, we really
- 43:42Speaker 1: must stand united.
- 43:43Speaker 1: And protect ourselves from online harm like that. I don't
- 43:46Speaker 1: think it's a coincidence that it's happening to our 1st birthday.
- 43:50Speaker 1: You are right as well. You are right. Yeah, not surprised.
- 43:54Speaker 1: But just be careful what you consume and um when
- 43:56Speaker 1: in doubt, don't it. Yeah, so if you see your
- 43:59Speaker 1: parents or grandparents watching Jack Ma on YouTube, chances are
- 44:02Speaker 1: it's not him, yeah, because I know Jack Ma to
- 44:04Speaker 1: be quite a very quiet and private.
- 44:06Speaker 1: Person, he wouldn't just come out and do, I don't
- 44:08Speaker 1: think so. No, yeah, it's very good to be back.
- 44:10Speaker 1: I'm in fact very happy to be sinking my teeth
- 44:13Speaker 1: in local food again. I'm that girl. Yes, OK. 4
- 44:16Speaker 1: days in Brussels and I cannot han. I need 4
- 44:18Speaker 1: days la. You make 4 days sound like 4 months.
- 44:22Speaker 1: I literally, I need local food. You don't understand. You
- 44:25Speaker 1: really don't understand. Can I ask what did you eat
- 44:27Speaker 1: in Belgium?
- 44:28Speaker 1: Um, OK, so to be fair, the festival food at
- 44:31Speaker 1: Tomorrowland is actually very good. No, no, no, there's so many,
- 44:35Speaker 1: there's pasta, there's Indian food, there's roast chicken. It's really, it's,
- 44:40Speaker 1: it's like a food festival also. The only problem is
- 44:43Speaker 1: you have to find time to go and eat, you see.
- 44:44Speaker 1: So that's the issue. Chances are you won't be spending
- 44:49Speaker 1: too much time having like sitting down having really nice
- 44:51Speaker 1: meals all the time.
- 44:53Speaker 1: It was, uh, it was OK. Yeah, some, some of
- 44:58Speaker 1: the prices could be a bit steep, but actually it
- 45:00Speaker 1: wasn't too bad for the quality. For what it was,
- 45:03Speaker 1: I think it was OK. A bottle of Tomorrowland. Oh,
- 45:06Speaker 1: that one I just don't even ask. Just close your eyes.
- 45:08Speaker 1: It's a can, by the way, it's not a bottle. No,
- 45:10Speaker 1: because they are very big on recycling, so they don't
- 45:13Speaker 1: do plastic stuff at all. No plastic bottles. It's only
- 45:17Speaker 1: canned drinks.
- 45:18Speaker 1: But are there water coolers around? Um, you can fill
- 45:22Speaker 1: up your water and apparently like the tap water is safe,
- 45:25Speaker 1: although I'm not sure about that. I didn't drink the
- 45:27Speaker 1: tap water on vegetables. Um, you can bring an empty
- 45:29Speaker 1: bottle to fill it up, but it has to be
- 45:31Speaker 1: those like collapsible types. It can't be a plastic bottle. Yeah.
- 45:34Speaker 1: So what I appreciate is that they're big on biodegradable materials,
- 45:39Speaker 1: even their plates, everything's all biodegradable. Good, good for them.
