- 0:22Speaker 2: Appreciate you.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Richard Sherman Podcast. And this all
- 0:37Speaker 1: season has been kind of quiet, a few franchise tags,
- 0:39Speaker 1: a few trades. But another trade that's happened. The Texans
- 0:43Speaker 1: get running back David Montgomery from the Detroit Lions for
- 0:48Speaker 1: a fourth round pick, Juice Scrugs and a seventh round pick.
- 0:53Speaker 1: This seems to be a move the Texans felt like
- 0:56Speaker 1: they needed to make strengthen their running back room. Obviously,
- 0:59Speaker 1: Davidntgomery grew kind of disgruntled in Detroit just because obviously
- 1:05Speaker 1: what Jamier Gibbs has become, he's been He's become one
- 1:08Speaker 1: of the big time playmakers in the National Football League
- 1:12Speaker 1: and they're true number one running back. And I don't
- 1:15Speaker 1: think David Montgomery wanted to rotate. But it's concerning for
- 1:19Speaker 1: me if I'm if I'm Joe Mixon, because I want
- 1:22Speaker 1: to know what's going on with Joe Mixon. Joe Mixon
- 1:24Speaker 1: was their captain, one of their best players obviously got
- 1:27Speaker 1: banged up.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Is still.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Kind of ambiguous what happened to Joe Mixon and uh,
- 1:36Speaker 1: you know what his future holds with the Houston Texans,
- 1:38Speaker 1: But they got some insurance with David Montgomery and everything
- 1:43Speaker 1: he brings consistency. He's a good back, He's a premier
- 1:47Speaker 1: back and can be a thousand yard running back when
- 1:50Speaker 1: he's at his best. Uh, and he gets a new
- 1:53Speaker 1: home in Houston, and that team that that that runs
- 1:57Speaker 1: the ball really well, got a quarterback that's that's been
- 2:02Speaker 1: up and down and had some struggles as playoffs, but
- 2:04Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be a really good player in
- 2:06Speaker 1: this league. And this only helps CJ. Shroud and this
- 2:09Speaker 1: offense get better. Today's show is brought to you by

- 3:45Speaker 1: It's combined season, and I know you guys are watching
- 3:48Speaker 1: the combine and everybody's like, oh my god, what are
- 3:50Speaker 1: these guys doing. There's corners running for three, there's there's
- 3:56Speaker 1: the lineman doing well, there's linebackers jumping out the gym,
- 4:00Speaker 1: there's everybody's falling in love all over again in combine season,
- 4:04Speaker 1: and I love it. You know, some of these players
- 4:06Speaker 1: are going to come on going to be really, really
- 4:09Speaker 1: good NFL players, but a lot of them are And
- 4:12Speaker 1: that's the problem I have with the combine and I
- 4:15Speaker 1: think it needs to be revamped and there has to
- 4:17Speaker 1: be a better evaluation because the way they're evaluating, the
- 4:20Speaker 1: things that they're valuing don't always translate the way people
- 4:24Speaker 1: expect them to translate, and it's leading to people being
- 4:27Speaker 1: drafted higher than they should be and scrutinized more than
- 4:32Speaker 1: they should be. And I think Anthony Richardson is a
- 4:35Speaker 1: perfect example of that.
- 4:36Speaker 2: You know, his.
- 4:37Speaker 1: College tape wasn't really that great, but he went out
- 4:40Speaker 1: there and had an incredible combine.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Then the hype train got a hold of him.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Then he was all of a sudden a top five pick,
- 4:47Speaker 1: and now he's not panning out, and now they're giving
- 4:49Speaker 1: up on him early because you know, the issues and
- 4:52Speaker 1: flaws that were there in college are still there in
- 4:54Speaker 1: the league, and so tape has to matter. And then
- 4:58Speaker 1: you're getting receiver prospects not running as well as people
- 5:02Speaker 1: thought they were supposed to because I think he might
- 5:05Speaker 1: have moved his hand a little early or whatever it is.
- 5:10Speaker 1: But don't get too caught up in the combine is
- 5:14Speaker 1: what I is in my advice. There will be players
- 5:16Speaker 1: that perform well that going to have great NFL careers,
- 5:20Speaker 1: But a lot of times it's not the fastest guy
- 5:22Speaker 1: at the combine. It's not the guy with the greatest
- 5:26Speaker 1: score at the combine. A lot of times it's the
- 5:30Speaker 1: guy with the best best tape, or a combination of
- 5:33Speaker 1: both of great tape and a great combine, and those
- 5:38Speaker 1: things marry into great football players.
- 5:40Speaker 2: But if one of them is missing, be careful, be cautious.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Because Sadiq had a great combine and it looks like,
- 5:52Speaker 1: according to everybody, this is going to be the greatest
- 5:54Speaker 1: idea and to ever play in the National Football League,
- 5:56Speaker 1: But it doesn't always work out that way, and it's
- 5:58Speaker 1: not it's not necessarily anybody's fault. It's just football such
- 6:02Speaker 1: a such a variable game, and those qualities and traits
- 6:09Speaker 1: sometimes make for great football players. But football iq right, situation, injuries,
- 6:18Speaker 1: all these things factor in the guys' careers. So That's
- 6:21Speaker 1: why I always caution people after combine, because they go
- 6:24Speaker 1: from making reasonable picks about, hey, I watched this guy's tape.
- 6:28Speaker 1: It looks really good to saying, hey, this guy isn't
- 6:30Speaker 1: even a first round Carneal Tait isn't even a first
- 6:32Speaker 1: rounder anymore because he ran four or five. And we'll
- 6:35Speaker 1: go get the guy that ran four to three. Get
- 6:36Speaker 1: the quarterback that's six' six and ran four to three From.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Arkansas he can be a. Receiver he could probably be
- 6:42Speaker 1: a first round. Receiver and it's it's. Tough it's. Tough
- 6:46Speaker 1: football is still played by football players on a football,
- 6:49Speaker 1: field and it's not a forty yard. Dash it's not
- 6:51Speaker 1: a broad, jump it's not a vertical. Jump it's, football
- 6:55Speaker 1: and it's still about running and, hitting catching and, throwing
- 7:00Speaker 1: possessing a, ball running the, football all the fundamental things
- 7:04Speaker 1: that make this game. Great the combine has a, place
- 7:08Speaker 1: but they got to adjust it to football more football
- 7:12Speaker 1: specific things that. Translate and what does that look like to?
- 7:16Speaker 2: ME i don't.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Know maybe there's a mirriage real for. Corners you, know
- 7:21Speaker 1: you try not to make it competitive one on ones
- 7:24Speaker 1: because that wouldn't make. Sense AND i don't think guys
- 7:27Speaker 1: would sign up for, that but you need things that
- 7:30Speaker 1: show the guys actual football playing. Strengths is there something
- 7:34Speaker 1: that you can show FOOTBALL Iq the ability to see
- 7:36Speaker 1: two to one from a, corner, uh the ability to
- 7:39Speaker 1: read motions for safety and and call the right. Checks you,
- 7:43Speaker 1: know things like that that wouldn't necessarily be the most
- 7:46Speaker 1: entertaining for, fans but would be really informative for coaches
- 7:51Speaker 1: to see how these players respond in actual football situations that.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Translate you, know running the forty doesn't always translate You
- 8:00Speaker 1: if you look at the all time forty yard, dash
- 8:03Speaker 1: how many Hard hall of famers are you gonna see
- 8:05Speaker 1: in the top?
- 8:06Speaker 2: Ten not a, ton not a.
- 8:08Speaker 1: TON a bunch Of hall of famers are four four
- 8:12Speaker 1: fives and four four threes and a couple four, threes
- 8:15Speaker 1: and And dion was apparently A fourd two AND i
- 8:18Speaker 1: Think Darryl green was a fod to two day and.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Night but there's not a ton of guys running four
- 8:23Speaker 1: to two that end up being A hall Of famer
- 8:26Speaker 1: for four to. Three, now maybe they'll that'll change in
- 8:28Speaker 1: the near, future but you, know it just has to
- 8:31Speaker 1: change in some. Way and that's my personal. Opinion that's
- 8:33Speaker 1: my two cents about, it coming from a guy who
- 8:35Speaker 1: went in the fifth.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Round who had an alright, combine but had a great football.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Career so take take with that what you may take
- 8:44Speaker 1: it with a grain of, salt grain of, sand doesn't
- 8:46Speaker 1: matter to. Me and it's the off, season so we
- 8:48Speaker 1: gotta talk about free. Agency we're gonna start with The
- 8:51Speaker 1: Seattle seahawks and their own free. Agents Kenneth Walker, junior
- 8:56Speaker 1: THE mvp of The Super, bowl will he'd be back
- 9:01Speaker 1: in The blue And green. Eye in my personal, OPINION
- 9:05Speaker 1: i think it's gonna be. TOUGH i think it's gonna
- 9:07Speaker 1: be tough from the conversation that That John snyder's already
- 9:11Speaker 1: had and the things being said on both. Sides money's
- 9:16Speaker 1: gonna be an, issue and and the shelf life for
- 9:19Speaker 1: a running back isn't very long, here, Fans so stay with,
- 9:23Speaker 1: me and stick with, me and and try not to
- 9:25Speaker 1: get upset with the player, here because for a running,
- 9:27Speaker 1: back it's it's it's hard to get your. Money in,
- 9:31Speaker 1: general they're still the position that's whose salary is growing
- 9:36Speaker 1: the slowest in regards to the salary cap and how
- 9:42Speaker 1: it's grown and how other POSITIONS i, mean receivers are
- 9:45Speaker 1: making what almost forty, million forty million dollars now at
- 9:49Speaker 1: the top of the. Top cornerbacks are are going going
- 9:53Speaker 1: to approach thirty five, million offensive lineman thirty five. Million
- 9:59Speaker 1: defense Of vans For micah got forty forty three or,
- 10:04Speaker 1: so AND i think there's forty five in, There so
- 10:09Speaker 1: you got you gotta really really have patience with a
- 10:12Speaker 1: guy when the team is, saying, hey we we're gonna
- 10:16Speaker 1: offer you potentially single digit a single digit number per,
- 10:20Speaker 1: year and there's a likely scenario that he's offered double
- 10:25Speaker 1: digits literally everywhere, else you. KNOW i think The Kansas
- 10:30Speaker 1: City chiefs are desperate for a running back that can
- 10:33Speaker 1: be a game changer and. DYNAMIC i think he'd be
- 10:36Speaker 1: a huge difference maker in that. Offense there's a number
- 10:39Speaker 1: of offenses around the league that could use speed and
- 10:42Speaker 1: explosiveness at the running back, position and The seahawks gave
- 10:48Speaker 1: a proven formula that, hey if you take some of
- 10:51Speaker 1: the carries off of him early in the, season he
- 10:54Speaker 1: can continue to be productive and strong throughout the off,
- 10:59Speaker 1: season throughout the, postseason and throughout late in the regular.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Season he literally got stronger as he went on later
- 11:08Speaker 1: in the. Year but right, now the top running back
- 11:13Speaker 1: Is Sakwon barkley at twenty point six per year with
- 11:16Speaker 1: thirty six million. Guaranteed DO i Think Kenneth walker will
- 11:19Speaker 1: get twenty million a? Year, NO i. Don't but DO
- 11:22Speaker 1: i think fourteen to fifteen million dollars is not a
- 11:26Speaker 1: question for?
- 11:26Speaker 2: Him?
- 11:27Speaker 1: YEAH i think fourteen to fifteen million dollars probably gets
- 11:30Speaker 1: it done for a team who wants, him maybe with
- 11:35Speaker 1: thirty five thirty eight guaranteed somewhere around. There SO i
- 11:40Speaker 1: THINK i think it's gonna be tough for The Seattle
- 11:42Speaker 1: seahawks to really justify paying him when they got to
- 11:45Speaker 1: Pay Jackson smith And jig but top of the market
- 11:47Speaker 1: money they got to. Pay they just Paid Charles cross good,
- 11:51Speaker 1: money they Paid Abe, Lucas they're gonna Pay Devin witherspoon top.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Money and so you got two guys who we're gonna
- 12:00Speaker 1: take up more than more than likely seventy seventy five
- 12:05Speaker 1: million dollars per. Season between those those two, guys it's
- 12:09Speaker 1: gonna be tough to retain guys Like Kenneth. Walker and
- 12:12Speaker 1: then you go forward and you look At Rashid shaheed
- 12:15Speaker 1: in his. Situation i'm not sure he comes back just
- 12:20Speaker 1: because of the usage rate that he had with The Seattle,
- 12:23Speaker 1: seahawks not that he's he's a number one, receiver, obviously
- 12:28Speaker 1: you gotta get a lot of targets To Jackson smith And.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Jigba but he had quadruple the amount of catches with
- 12:33Speaker 1: The New Orleans. Saints he had forty four receptions in
- 12:36Speaker 1: nine games with The saints and nine games with The.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Seahawks during the regular, season he had Fifteen as a.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Receiver and the way they think and the way they're,
- 12:45Speaker 1: built you got to touch the, rock and a guy
- 12:48Speaker 1: who was used to touching it a lot more is
- 12:51Speaker 1: gonna want to touch it a lot, more and it.
- 12:54Speaker 2: May be more valued other.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Places other teams may look at him and, say, hey
- 12:59Speaker 1: we know what you can we know how explosive you can,
- 13:01Speaker 1: be and may offer him more money than The seahawks
- 13:04Speaker 1: are willing to pay, him just because of the explosiveness
- 13:08Speaker 1: that he's shown both in the return game and as a.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Receiver With New.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Orleans, now he showed some of it with The Seattle,
- 13:15Speaker 1: seahawks but it just seemed disconnected for some reason in my.
- 13:19Speaker 1: OPINION i don't know If kubiak just didn't feel like
- 13:26Speaker 1: he wanted to take those targets away FROM jscn or
- 13:30Speaker 1: if he wanted to break the dolphinse uff like. That
- 13:32Speaker 1: but in the playoffs you saw how explosive he could have. Been,
- 13:35Speaker 1: Obviously Christian gonzales made an incredible play in The Super,
- 13:41Speaker 1: bowl but that would have been another. Explosive he had
- 13:43Speaker 1: an explosive in THE Nfc Championship game. EARLY i think
- 13:46Speaker 1: it was first drive of the, game explosive pass to
- 13:48Speaker 1: start that game and put The seahawks in scoring. Position
- 13:51Speaker 1: so he shows he can get it. Done the issue
- 13:58Speaker 1: THAT i think for The seahawks is he got there
- 14:03Speaker 1: in the middle of the. Season he didn't have time
- 14:07Speaker 1: to grow a rapport and people don't understand how important
- 14:11Speaker 1: training camp is in a receiver building a rapport with,
- 14:14Speaker 1: quarterback and so.
- 14:17Speaker 2: They. Didn't they didn't.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Jail like they probably would have if they would have
- 14:20Speaker 1: had the full off. Season, now what is his price
- 14:23Speaker 1: tag gonna? Be and that's that's the ONE i really can't.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Pay how are people categorizing him because even number two
- 14:31Speaker 1: receivers in The National Football.
- 14:33Speaker 2: League.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Not that HE'S T, higgins BUT T higgins is at
- 14:39Speaker 1: twenty five or twenty six million dollars a. Year so
- 14:42Speaker 1: as at number, two it's STILL i, mean it may
- 14:44Speaker 1: be approaching high teens for a guy Like rashid shah heat,
- 14:48Speaker 1: POTENTIALLY i don't, know especially with the return game as a.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Factor he's not a bad, receiver AND i know people are,
- 14:54Speaker 1: like he hasn't put up crazy. Numbers he's been on
- 14:58Speaker 1: Some New orleans teams that that haven't necessarily been GREAT
- 15:01Speaker 1: uh and he's been on them. Consistently and he does
- 15:04Speaker 1: have a huge impact in the special teams, game which
- 15:07Speaker 1: he's shown.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Shown he won at least three games.
- 15:09Speaker 1: For The Seattle SEAHAWKS uh this season with his with
- 15:13Speaker 1: his return, GAME i THINK i want to say the
- 15:15Speaker 1: first the Second rams game is the one that comes to.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Mind he had a huge punt return for a touchdown
- 15:21Speaker 1: that really turned the momentum in that game and brought
- 15:24Speaker 1: The seahawks roaring BACK uh and and and started their
- 15:28Speaker 1: comeback be it in that, game AND i think that
- 15:32Speaker 1: value can't be. Understated but, AGAIN i don't think The
- 15:35Speaker 1: Seattle seahawks really make a huge play for. HIM i,
- 15:38Speaker 1: think you, know even if he doesn't come back and
- 15:40Speaker 1: play another, down with The Seattle. Seahawks the impact that
- 15:43Speaker 1: he made during The Super bowl season is. PROFOUND i
- 15:46Speaker 1: think he was worth the. TRADE i Think John snyder
- 15:49Speaker 1: made it an incredible, move AND i think everybody's happy in.
- 15:52Speaker 1: THAT i think The seahawks are. HAPPY i Think New
- 15:55Speaker 1: orleans is. HAPPY i think where She schehet is. HAPPY
- 15:58Speaker 1: i think The seahawks fans are happy and every. Wins
- 16:00Speaker 1: BUT i don't think with what how free agency can
- 16:05Speaker 1: go and how the bidding wars can. GO i don't
- 16:07Speaker 1: See John snyder getting involved in a bidding war For
- 16:09Speaker 1: Rashid shaheit Unless rashid is just, like, HEY i want
- 16:12Speaker 1: to come back To seattle And i'm willing to take
- 16:14Speaker 1: a lot less and these people are willing to give.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Me and that's not usually how it goes. People i'm
- 16:19Speaker 1: sorry it's. Not but, potentially and especially for a guy
- 16:23Speaker 1: who hasn't made a ton of, money it's not like
- 16:25Speaker 1: he's coming off of huge deals and he's he's gotten
- 16:29Speaker 1: pig time pay days and he's, like, HEY i made my.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Money i'm just trying to win and be. Consistent these
- 16:35Speaker 1: guys got to make as much money as they can
- 16:36Speaker 1: while they. CAN i know everybody's always happy to hear
- 16:39Speaker 1: team friendly and things like.
- 16:41Speaker 2: That but in this day and, age in this, economy
- 16:45Speaker 2: it's hard to be team.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Friendly. Baby the Salary caps had three hundred, million and
- 16:51Speaker 1: for a running back who may have you, know, six, six,
- 16:58Speaker 1: seven maybe eight good year years in, him to take
- 17:01Speaker 1: our team friendly, deal that'll take him four or five
- 17:04Speaker 1: million dollars a year off of what he could potentially
- 17:07Speaker 1: make in the in the in the free. MARKET i
- 17:10Speaker 1: don't think he's gonna do, it but those are the
- 17:13Speaker 1: big ones for The Seattle. SEAHAWKS a well built wardrobe

- 18:54Speaker 1: Slash richard for The San francisco forty nine. Ers, obviously
- 19:01Speaker 1: the conversation is going to be about when they're really
- 19:04Speaker 1: when they Release Brandon. AYUK i think that it's been, clear,
- 19:08Speaker 1: uh at least late in the season and throughout the
- 19:11Speaker 1: season that as soon as they can get rid of,
- 19:13Speaker 1: him they're getting rid of. Him where he, Goes i'm not.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Sure i'm not sure how his market. Goes he hasn't
- 19:19Speaker 1: played in a, while nobody has seen. Him if he's
- 19:22Speaker 1: healthy and he's and he's moving, Well i'm sure teams
- 19:27Speaker 1: will work him out and and see and if he
- 19:29Speaker 1: looks good and if they can get a good feel for. Him,
- 19:32Speaker 1: uh you, KNOW I i still think He's he's on
- 19:35Speaker 1: a one year proved deal for potentially The Washington commanders
- 19:39Speaker 1: because he's been rumored there for a number of. Reasons
- 19:43Speaker 1: Adam peters said he loves the. PLAYER i mean he
- 19:46Speaker 1: loves the. Person can't comment on the player at the. Combine,
- 19:49Speaker 1: Uh so there's a relationship. There obviously he came From San. Francisco,
- 19:53Speaker 1: uh there's a relationship with With jade And daniels and
- 19:55Speaker 1: so that that's an, obvious uh obvious spot that that
- 20:00Speaker 1: people think he. Lands there's a lot of places that
- 20:02Speaker 1: need receiver. Help and you, know at his, best he could.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Play he can move, well he can catch the ball in,
- 20:09Speaker 1: Traffic he's a good. Receiver, obviously things didn't end well
- 20:14Speaker 1: In San, francisco and so.
- 20:18Speaker 2: It's to be seen to be, seen you.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Know it's it's a unique situation that we haven't seen
- 20:23Speaker 1: very often where a guy kind of goes mia on
- 20:26Speaker 1: the team who's getting paid thirty million dollars a year
- 20:30Speaker 1: and says he doesn't want to play for that team,
- 20:32Speaker 1: anymore and the team, says, hey we don't, understand but
- 20:35Speaker 1: we're gonna take you. Guarantee it's just an odd, situation unfortunate,
- 20:38Speaker 1: situation but we'll see how it plays. Out Juwan, jennings
- 20:42Speaker 1: could he potentially get a, nice nice chuck fifteen to
- 20:47Speaker 1: sixty million dollar deal similar to what we were talking
- 20:50Speaker 1: about For Rashichia, Heat no question about. It there's some
- 20:53Speaker 1: teams out there that would pay him that kind of
- 20:57Speaker 1: money and he deserves. It he deserve. It he can
- 20:59Speaker 1: play football at a high. Level he's played big in
- 21:01Speaker 1: the biggest. Games he would have been Super BOWL mvp
- 21:03Speaker 1: At San francisco forty nine ers beat The Kansas City
- 21:06Speaker 1: chiefs a couple of years. AGO a guy that does
- 21:10Speaker 1: things the right, way plays, hard, plays do, injury tough,
- 21:14Speaker 1: player great, hands just just does things the right. Way
- 21:16Speaker 1: SO i expect him to get get his get his.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Payday deservedly. So could he potentially come back To San, Francisco,
- 21:22Speaker 1: yeah BUT i think it's a long. SHOT i think
- 21:24Speaker 1: it's a long. Shot another guy that's been been linked
- 21:29Speaker 1: To San francisco forty nine, Ers Mike. EVANS i DON'T
- 21:35Speaker 1: i don't really see that. Happening he, Says he says
- 21:39Speaker 1: he needs to go to a place with these. Criteria
- 21:42Speaker 1: it WAS, qb he believes, in chance at a Super,
- 21:44Speaker 1: bowl top shelf offensive, coordinator high valume. Touches Now San
- 21:48Speaker 1: FRANCISCO uh checks off a lot of those, boxes but
- 21:52Speaker 1: the high value. TOUCHES i think he's gonna have a
- 21:54Speaker 1: hard time finding in This National Football league just because
- 21:58Speaker 1: of the point he is he's at in his, career
- 22:00Speaker 1: in the criteria that he's looking. For you A qb
- 22:03Speaker 1: you believe, in and a chance at a Super, bowl
- 22:06Speaker 1: top shelf offensive, coordinator those are. There there are only
- 22:10Speaker 1: a few places with all those, things and you're usually
- 22:12Speaker 1: not getting high value touches when you get. THERE i
- 22:16Speaker 1: think The Kansas City chiefs are are a destination that
- 22:18Speaker 1: makes sense for, him but, again high value, touches that's that's.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Debatable and Then Patrick mahomes is coming off a major knee.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Injury i'm not. Sure i'm not sure if that if
- 22:29Speaker 1: that would make sense for him With Patrick, mahons not
- 22:32Speaker 1: with the uncertainty Surrounding Patrick mahomes right.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Now do you believe in IN. C. J stroud and
- 22:40Speaker 2: what he's put on?
- 22:41Speaker 1: Tape you? Know is he a guy that you think
- 22:44Speaker 1: is A qb that he believes? IN i can't answer that.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Question but a defense that gives you a chance at
- 22:49Speaker 1: A Super?
- 22:49Speaker 2: Bowl?
- 22:50Speaker 1: Uh you, know is it a top shelf offensive? Coordinator you,
- 22:53Speaker 1: know to be, debated h could you get high valume? Touches?
- 22:59Speaker 3: Not?
- 22:59Speaker 1: Really Would Nico collins? There you Know Nico collins is,
- 23:02Speaker 1: There he'll get most of the. Touches you guys are
- 23:05Speaker 1: kind of a similarly built. Receivers but it'd be a
- 23:07Speaker 1: matchup nightmare for defenses for. Sure the other really good
- 23:13Speaker 1: quarterbacks in this. League Is buffalo a chance for you
- 23:16Speaker 1: at A Super? Bowl i'm not. SURE i think their
- 23:19Speaker 1: best chance was last season when when none of the
- 23:21Speaker 1: quarterbacks were, there you, know and there was No Lamar,
- 23:24Speaker 1: jackson there was No Patrick, mahomes there was No Joe
- 23:27Speaker 1: burrow in THE, afc and you would thought you would
- 23:30Speaker 1: have thought that's the year That Josh allen could make
- 23:32Speaker 1: it to The Super, bowl he made it to THE Afc,
- 23:35Speaker 1: championship or he made it to The divisional and it
- 23:40Speaker 1: mostly you, know it was controversial HOW i went. Down
- 23:43Speaker 1: we're not gonna argue and relitigate that, game but probably
- 23:47Speaker 1: should have made it to the Super bowl that, season
- 23:51Speaker 1: And Bo knicks gets hurt at the end of that
- 23:52Speaker 1: game and the rest is. History BUT i also think
- 23:55Speaker 1: The Seattle seahawks and the forty Nine, ERS i, mean
- 23:59Speaker 1: they all could be in play, here but it just
- 24:01Speaker 1: depends on a kind of money that he's willing to
- 24:03Speaker 1: take and and taking a bit of a back. Seat you,
- 24:07Speaker 1: know those those teams have established. Guys what forty nine
- 24:11Speaker 1: ers don't have an established, guy he'd be the established guy.
- 24:13Speaker 1: There it's just not a lot of targets going to
- 24:15Speaker 1: be coming his. Way And Kyle shanahan kind of spreads
- 24:19Speaker 1: the ball out whoever's. Open he's not really focused on one.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Receiver AND i think that was one of the things
- 24:24Speaker 1: that kind of Rubbed brandon AND i you threw wrong,
- 24:26Speaker 1: way Is, Hey i'm not being featured in the WAY
- 24:28Speaker 1: i THOUGHT i should be, Featured And i'm gonna be
- 24:31Speaker 1: a little frustrated with. That and and that's just how
- 24:34Speaker 1: they run. Offense you, know it's, productive it's winning, football
- 24:37Speaker 1: but it's not it's not receiver friendly. Necessarily but those
- 24:42Speaker 1: are PLACES i think he could potentially. Go he could
- 24:44Speaker 1: also potentially go back To Tampa bay if things aren't,
- 24:47Speaker 1: perfect if things aren't ideal, ELSEWHERE i think he could
- 24:50Speaker 1: come back To Tampa.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Bay and and and things be.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Fine another big time free agent might be the biggest
- 24:58Speaker 1: free agent this offseason.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Is molik Will. Willis.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Uh it seemed Like LeFleur did a great job of
- 25:04Speaker 1: fixing the issues that he, had And Malik willis responded,
- 25:07Speaker 1: well really productive and efficient and the times that he
- 25:11Speaker 1: was out there and had a chance to play the
- 25:14Speaker 1: last couple of, seasons the potential landing spots for him Are.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Arizona with the uncertainty of what they're gonna do With Kyler,
- 25:22Speaker 1: murray they're trying to trade. Him the only problem with
- 25:24Speaker 1: we're trying to trade somebody is there got to be
- 25:26Speaker 1: somebody willing to trade for. Him is that Is Kyler
- 25:29Speaker 1: murray a player that that a team wants to sign up.
- 25:32Speaker 1: FOR i think that all depends on the price tag
- 25:35Speaker 1: and and how much. Compensation, uh they're gonna they're gonna
- 25:40Speaker 1: want to trade for. Him obviously he's a really explosive,
- 25:43Speaker 1: player been productive in this, league but there's a lot
- 25:48Speaker 1: of uncertainty surrounding his. Preparation, uh you, know his leadership. Ability,
- 25:55Speaker 1: uh the kind of team maye. Is things like that
- 25:58Speaker 1: that make it risky for team to, say, hey we're
- 26:00Speaker 1: going to invest in a second or third round pick
- 26:03Speaker 1: for a guy like. That but who. Knows this league
- 26:06Speaker 1: is kind of crazy in that. Way The Dolphins Jeff,
- 26:09Speaker 1: haffley who was a defensive coordinator In Green bay Where
- 26:13Speaker 1: Malik willis, was they're moving on from to a tongue
- 26:15Speaker 1: Of ailoa is the conversation that we've heard obviously trying
- 26:19Speaker 1: to trade for. Him unlikely to trade a quarterback with
- 26:22Speaker 1: with that kind of price tag who hasn't necessarily been
- 26:27Speaker 1: seen as successful outside Of mike McDaniel's. System maybe there's
- 26:31Speaker 1: a team that, says, hey we, can we, can we
- 26:34Speaker 1: can do something with. That we can we don't have
- 26:37Speaker 1: a quarterback right, now and we can make something shake with.
- 26:40Speaker 1: That BUT i don't see a team trading for his
- 26:42Speaker 1: salary and making him a franchise quarterback right. Now Obviously
- 26:45Speaker 1: mike McDaniel is now in IN la with The chargers
- 26:49Speaker 1: And Justin herbert and going to try to work his
- 26:51Speaker 1: magic with, him but.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Could.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Couldn't Could Malik willis go With Jeff haffley to The
- 26:59Speaker 1: Miami dolphins can get a pay? DAY i think. SO
- 27:03Speaker 1: i think him understanding what he has and what he
- 27:08Speaker 1: was able to do and how he functions in this.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Offense him going with his offensive, coordinator having the same
- 27:14Speaker 1: offensive coordinator From Green bay with him and And miami helps,
- 27:20Speaker 1: out AND i think that's a that's an ideal landing
- 27:23Speaker 1: spot for. Him obviously there's, talent Uh AND i mean
- 27:27Speaker 1: they're getting rid Of Tyreek, keel which is which is
- 27:29Speaker 1: a little bit, crazy which changes the dynamic of that offense.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Dramatically BUT i Think Jeff hafley is going to do
- 27:34Speaker 1: a great job putting together a really good, defense having
- 27:36Speaker 1: a good, plan a good running game and devon at
- 27:39Speaker 1: chain and and they'll get more. Receivers i'm sure they'll draft,
- 27:43Speaker 1: well and they'll they'll be more competitive than they were this.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Year and if they if they give him the same
- 27:51Speaker 1: uh kind of guardrails that he had In Green.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Bay he could be.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Successful he was, efficient he was, Smart he made plays
- 27:57Speaker 1: with his, legs made the right plays with his, arms
- 27:59Speaker 1: push the ball down the. Field SO i think there's
- 28:03Speaker 1: a potential marriage there For Malik. Willis other potential release,
- 28:12Speaker 1: rumors people are Saying Aaron jones is potentially out in In,
- 28:17Speaker 1: Minnesota Javon hargraves as, Well Geno smith with The, Raiders
- 28:21Speaker 1: Kirk cousins with The, Falcons Kyler murray with The. Cardinals
- 28:25Speaker 1: all those makes, sense some of them for cap, reasons
- 28:28Speaker 1: some of them for performance. Reasons Kirk cousins didn't didn't
- 28:33Speaker 1: pan out the way he people probably thought he should.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Have In, ATLANTA i thought it was a crazy move
- 28:39Speaker 1: when they drafted a quarterback And pennis at nine overall
- 28:43Speaker 1: and and paid him fifty. MILLION i thought that was
- 28:46Speaker 1: a that was a disastrous. Move now they're potentially getting
- 28:49Speaker 1: rid Of Kirk cousins and Saying penix may not be
- 28:52Speaker 1: the answer In.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Atlanta that's kind of. Crazy that's kind of. Crazy that's
- 28:56Speaker 2: just a.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Disaster but that's how the the general manager gets loses
- 29:00Speaker 1: his job and the head coach loses his job because
- 29:03Speaker 1: of a decision like, that which is which is inevitable
- 29:05Speaker 1: if that doesn't go the way you think it should.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Go BUT i and one, weird crazy thing THAT i
- 29:11Speaker 1: think could potentially happen if The San francisco forty nine
- 29:16Speaker 1: ers Trade Mac, jones WHICH i think is unlikely unless
- 29:19Speaker 1: a team is just desperate and a team like The
- 29:22Speaker 1: Minnesota vikings who have uncertainty at the quarterback, spot say,
- 29:26Speaker 1: hey we're gonna Make Mac jones our, guy and we're
- 29:29Speaker 1: gonna we're gonna go all in for, him and we
- 29:32Speaker 1: believe a high second round pick in the. Player is?
- 29:37Speaker 1: That is that? Enough depends on the, PLAYER i, guess
- 29:40Speaker 1: or a high caliber player for a for A Mac,
- 29:45Speaker 1: JONES i think The San francisco forty nine ers move
- 29:48Speaker 1: move him for a really high, price something that they
- 29:51Speaker 1: just can't can't say no to an offer they can't.
- 29:54Speaker 1: REFUSE i think that's the only way they get rid
- 29:56Speaker 1: of Mac. Jones but if they do get that, offer
- 29:59Speaker 1: and they do move on from Mac jones and and
- 30:01Speaker 1: and send him To minnesota Or New, york, UH i
- 30:07Speaker 1: Think Kirk cousins is a viable. Option and anybody who's
- 30:11Speaker 1: Followed Kyle shanahan or, Followed Kirk cousins knows that there's
- 30:15Speaker 1: THERE'S uh symbiosis and there's a good relationship, there AND
- 30:19Speaker 1: i Think kyle would feel very comfortable With Kirk cousins
- 30:21Speaker 1: as the BACKUP uh To Brock purdy going forward if
- 30:25Speaker 1: if they happen to lose Mac. Jones, obviously these are
- 30:28Speaker 1: a lot of what if, scenarios BUT i think that's
- 30:31Speaker 1: a situation that that should be. Watched if Mac jones
- 30:35Speaker 1: does get TRADED uh and and The San francisco for
- 30:40Speaker 1: nineers getting offer they can't, refuse it would make sense
- 30:43Speaker 1: on on off. Fronts not That, Hey Kirk cousins is
- 30:45Speaker 1: gonna ask for a ton of. Money He's Kirk Kirk
- 30:48Speaker 1: cousins has made a ton of. Money he's he's he's
- 30:50Speaker 1: hall of fame in that, Regard hall of, fame money,
- 30:54Speaker 1: maker and this in The National Football league and and
- 30:58Speaker 1: in the business of, football as they. Say BUT i
- 31:02Speaker 1: think that the Way Kyle shanahan works and how highly
- 31:06Speaker 1: he thinks That Kirk, cousins and how Well Kirk cousins
- 31:09Speaker 1: has played Under Kyle, SHANAHAN i think that's a situation
- 31:13Speaker 1: that would make. Sense he's also played well Under kevin
- 31:15Speaker 1: O'Connell for those few years that they were.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Together it makes sense to, me AND i think it'll
- 31:22Speaker 2: make sense To.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Kyle and obviously they think a young quarterback would be
- 31:27Speaker 1: in the mix somewhere in, there BUT i think he
- 31:30Speaker 1: always wants a veteran backup that if things go awry
- 31:34Speaker 1: like they did last. Season obviously they would never want
- 31:36Speaker 1: this scenario that they had last season Where Brock purty
- 31:39Speaker 1: misses them amount of games that he, missed but if they,
- 31:42Speaker 1: did they want a competent backup that could come in
- 31:45Speaker 1: there and still win them games and keep them on.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Track and that's what Mac jones was able to. Do
- 31:49Speaker 1: AND i think they would think That Kirk. Cousins, Obviously
- 31:52Speaker 1: Kirk cousins struggled last, year let's not let's not forget,
- 31:55Speaker 1: That but Within kyle shanahan, SYSTEM i think he would
- 31:58Speaker 1: feel comfortable with. Him, SO i, mean you guys can
- 32:01Speaker 1: feel how you want About Kirk, cousins BUT i Think
- 32:03Speaker 1: Kyle shanahan likes. HIM i, think you, know if Mac
- 32:06Speaker 1: jones is, gone that's a feasible move For Kyle shanahan
- 32:10Speaker 1: that makes sense for a low. PRICE i don't Think
- 32:13Speaker 1: kirk's gonna be looking for a ton of. Money but
- 32:15Speaker 1: he is a guy that is familiar with something we're
- 32:18Speaker 1: about to talk, about and that's the franchise tag Because
- 32:21Speaker 1: kirk was under a lot of franchise tags and made
- 32:23Speaker 1: a lot of money doing. It and there's been a
- 32:26Speaker 1: lot of discourse about the franchise tag this all. Season
- 32:29Speaker 1: George pickens just got franchise. Tag Kyle pitts got franchise.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Tags are those good? MOVES i think those are great,
- 32:35Speaker 1: moves and different players react different ways to. It it
- 32:40Speaker 1: seems Like George pickens is excited about. IT i would
- 32:42Speaker 1: Expect Kyle pitts to be excited about. IT i, mean
- 32:45Speaker 1: it secures you with that team. Continues the negotiation shows
- 32:48Speaker 1: the team values. You but it's a weapon for teams
- 32:53Speaker 1: to keep guys and to prevent guys from getting the free.
- 32:57Speaker 1: Agency AND i hear so many people out there, saying oh,
- 33:01Speaker 1: man THE, nflpa you got to get rid of. That
- 33:03Speaker 1: and they got. Tricked and every time that that lives,
- 33:06Speaker 1: on they're getting they're getting tricked into a.
- 33:08Speaker 2: Deal, no they're, not like you know how leverage.
- 33:12Speaker 1: WORKS i, mean let me explain to you something in
- 33:15Speaker 1: order for THE, nflpa which is the, players which is the.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Players there are players negotiating these. Deals to get rid
- 33:25Speaker 1: of the franchise, tag the players would have to be
- 33:29Speaker 1: willing to show THE nfl and the thirty two owners
- 33:33Speaker 1: of these teams that they are willing to exercise their
- 33:39Speaker 1: ultimate like emergency nuke, Button and that's missing games show
- 33:47Speaker 1: solidarity that, hey we will change the whole landscape of
- 33:51Speaker 1: all YOUR tv deals in everything you do by collectively
- 33:56Speaker 1: coming together and, deciding, hey we're not going to show
- 33:59Speaker 1: up One. Sunday that's pretty much. It outside of, that.
- 34:06Speaker 2: What leverage do the players?
- 34:08Speaker 1: Have AND i was a part of THE, nflpa AND
- 34:10Speaker 1: i was a part of these, negotiations AND i set
- 34:13Speaker 1: in these meetings with the owners back and forth negotiating
- 34:16Speaker 1: cbas what leverage do you have for a group that
- 34:25Speaker 1: is getting paid either? Way they have negotiated with THESE
- 34:29Speaker 1: tv rights deals and with these with these networks where
- 34:35Speaker 1: the networks are going to pay them and then the
- 34:37Speaker 1: money's going to be split with the.
- 34:39Speaker 2: Players so.
- 34:41Speaker 1: In order to harm them like they got they got
- 34:45Speaker 1: money in hand and the players do. Not the players
- 34:49Speaker 1: need the money to be paid by those people with
- 34:51Speaker 1: the money in, hand and that's why the collective bargaining
- 34:53Speaker 1: agreement is. There and maybe college needs to move to
- 34:56Speaker 1: a to a version of, that but that's a story
- 34:58Speaker 1: for a different.
- 34:59Speaker 2: Day but.
- 35:01Speaker 1: In order to take something like the franchise tag away
- 35:07Speaker 1: from teams who really value, it and it only affects
- 35:10Speaker 1: four or, five maybe six guys a, year if, that you,
- 35:14Speaker 1: know on a high, year it's not. Affecting it's not
- 35:17Speaker 1: in a league of twenty one hundred players or so
- 35:20Speaker 1: or twenty five hundred depending on the time of the.
- 35:23Speaker 1: Year something that affects six is gonna be a hard
- 35:29Speaker 1: thing to sell to the other twenty four twenty four
- 35:34Speaker 1: ninety six or twenty four ninety. Four, like you can't
- 35:38Speaker 1: sell something that doesn't affect the majority of the. Players
- 35:42Speaker 1: and you could, say, oh it affects everybody because it
- 35:45Speaker 1: limits how high the top get. Paid, no it, doesn't
- 35:48Speaker 1: because guys get to free, agency and a lot of
- 35:50Speaker 1: these guys negotiate before they ever get to free, agency
- 35:53Speaker 1: really high. Deals but, again if the players felt that
- 35:56Speaker 1: strongly about, it then they would, say, hey, guys we
- 35:59Speaker 1: got to come together and we gotta change, this and we,
- 36:02Speaker 1: gotta we, gotta we gotta, exercise all, right and show them, that,
- 36:06Speaker 1: hey we could come together and work together.
- 36:09Speaker 2: As one.
- 36:12Speaker 1: One, mind one one, word one, team and that would
- 36:19Speaker 1: show the let the, Owners, hey these players aren't to
- 36:21Speaker 1: be messed. With, hey we gotta we gotta negotiate that. Way,
- 36:25Speaker 1: hey they they are partners and the, league for the most,
- 36:28Speaker 1: part to their, credit negotiate that. Way they moved that,
- 36:33Speaker 1: way like they they negotiate fair deals with that. Way
- 36:38Speaker 1: it's a FAIR i guess nobody's always. Happy everybody's not always,
- 36:42Speaker 1: happy but they negotiate deals that that that, work and
- 36:51Speaker 1: nobody's happy at the. End nobody's nobody's too happy about
- 36:54Speaker 1: how things. Went nobody's too frustrated about how things. Went
- 36:57Speaker 1: but in order for the players to move the owners
- 37:00Speaker 1: off of the spot that they're, on which is an
- 37:03Speaker 1: immense amount of leverage that they have because they don't
- 37:06Speaker 1: believe that the the the players will shoot the bullet
- 37:09Speaker 1: they have in their. Gun and if they and if
- 37:12Speaker 1: you're if you're negotiating with with no bullets in the,
- 37:16Speaker 1: gun then it's a tough negotiation to. Have so every
- 37:19Speaker 1: TIME i hear people, say, oh the players should get
- 37:21Speaker 1: rid of the franchise tag players should should. Negotiate they're
- 37:24Speaker 1: doing a bad job because they won't get rid of
- 37:26Speaker 1: the franchise. Tag explain to me how they do. It, please,
- 37:30Speaker 1: Please as somebody who's been in those, meetings it doesn't
- 37:32Speaker 1: go how you think it. Goes and and it's easy
- 37:37Speaker 1: to speak from a from a from your couch or
- 37:40Speaker 1: from from in front of your. Screen you, know it's
- 37:44Speaker 1: not easy to speak when you're sitting there negotiating with
- 37:46Speaker 1: them and you're going back and forth and you're, arguing
- 37:48Speaker 1: and you're sitting there going back to your players having
- 37:51Speaker 1: conversations with, them and they're not, agreeing and they're, saying,
- 37:54Speaker 1: HEY i don't want to miss. GAMES i don't want
- 37:55Speaker 1: to miss. CHECKS i can't afford to do. That i'm
- 37:57Speaker 1: not doing. That we're not doing, that, MAN i want
- 37:59Speaker 1: to just sign A d. Like it's much different conversation
- 38:04Speaker 1: that people think it. Is SO i JUST i that
- 38:07Speaker 1: discourse just gets frustrating to me because it's not rooted in. Facts,
- 38:11Speaker 1: fundamentally it's not something where they people understand the dynamics
- 38:17Speaker 1: between THE nfl and the, players and something is missing
- 38:22Speaker 1: internally where there's oh, man they missed this great. Point,
- 38:25Speaker 1: no they. Didn't, no they. Didn't the only person that
- 38:29Speaker 1: missed the point is the people not in the, room
- 38:31Speaker 1: the people that don't understand the leverage points in. This
- 38:34Speaker 1: so at the end of the, day that's WHERE i
- 38:36Speaker 1: stand on. IT i know it's not the most fun,
- 38:38Speaker 1: point but it is what it. Is the franchise tag
- 38:41Speaker 1: isn't going. Anywhere the league will not let it go,
- 38:43Speaker 1: anywhere and unless something drastically changes in that, regard it
- 38:49Speaker 1: is what it, is and it's just a necessary evil
- 38:51Speaker 1: that the players got to deal, with and that's. Fine
- 38:55Speaker 1: but that's the end of my. Show as, ALWAYS i
- 38:58Speaker 1: appreciate you joining. Me you could be anywhere in the,
- 39:00Speaker 1: world but you hear with, me AND i greatly appreciate.
- 39:02Speaker 1: It thank you so. Much AS i said, before stay
- 39:06Speaker 1: tuned for all season. News we're going to have a
