- 0:09Speaker 1: What if the biggest obstacle between you and the change
- 0:12Speaker 1: you want in life isn't your circumstances, but your mindset.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Every day, people make plans, they set goals and try
- 0:19Speaker 1: to reach them, only to stay stuck in the same
- 0:21Speaker 1: old patterns of behavior over and over and over again.
- 0:25Speaker 1: So why does this happen? Is it a lack of
- 0:27Speaker 1: discipline or something deeper. Today we're diving into how your
- 0:31Speaker 1: thoughts shape your behavior and how changing the way you
- 0:34Speaker 1: think could change your life. Hello everybody, and welcome to
- 0:43Speaker 1: Life TV Now, where we unpack all matters of truth,
- 0:46Speaker 1: faith and freedom. I'm Joe artists Horned. Today for some
- 0:49Speaker 1: of you watching this program, you're about to experience a
- 0:53Speaker 1: whole new way of thinking and it might just change
- 0:56Speaker 1: your life. Before we dive in, let me introduce who's here.
- 0:59Speaker 1: She's an integrative nutrition health coach with a Master of
- 1:02Speaker 1: Science and health education. Please welcome our executive director, Jamie Woodle,
- 1:12Speaker 1: and she's a motivational speaker and clinical therapist with a
- 1:15Speaker 1: master's degree in counseling and training in neuro feedback and
- 1:19Speaker 1: mindset transformation. She helps people break through mental and emotional
- 1:24Speaker 1: barriers to create healthier more fulfilling lives. Alongside her husband,
- 1:28Speaker 1: doctor Steve Traeger, she co leads Step into Vitality, a
- 1:32Speaker 1: wellness consulting practice focused on sustainable physical and mental health.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Please welcome Debbie Traeger. Debbie, I've been aware of some
- 1:46Speaker 1: of your work, not all of it, but some of it,
- 1:48Speaker 1: and I have been maximum impressed with what I've seen
- 1:51Speaker 1: over the last few years. We share mutual friends with
- 1:54Speaker 1: people like doctor Ralph Umbriaco, doctor Steve Hewlett, doctor Ann Hines,
- 1:59Speaker 1: doctor Rachel Shock, and of course, by way of introduction,
- 2:03Speaker 1: our good mutual friend who is also in studio today,
- 2:06Speaker 1: the one and only Billy Coppage. Billy is the one
- 2:14Speaker 1: behind what I perceive to be the fastest growing healthcare
- 2:18Speaker 1: conference in the nation, The Secrets in Healthcare. Wonderful Doctors,
- 2:22Speaker 1: Doctor Brian Artist, John Richardson. It's just a stacked card.
- 2:25Speaker 1: It'll be happening later this November, and we'll be talking
- 2:28Speaker 1: with you as the week's unfold about that event and
- 2:31Speaker 1: how to get tickets and to make sure you don't
- 2:32Speaker 1: miss it. But one of the presenters and I saw
- 2:35Speaker 1: you in twenty twenty four the first time, and then
- 2:38Speaker 1: again last year at the secrets in healthcare. You have
- 2:41Speaker 1: this dynamite way of helping people overcome what maybe aren't
- 2:46Speaker 1: necessarily circumstantial based dilemmas in life, but maybe more mental
- 2:51Speaker 1: blockages or lack of perception, or maybe the need for
- 2:54Speaker 1: a shift in perspective. And that might be the most
- 2:57Speaker 1: profound way to help loosen somebody maybe into their call
- 3:00Speaker 1: or pursue what God has for them in life. You've
- 3:03Speaker 1: made it your mission to help people. What before we
- 3:05Speaker 1: get into that personally drove you though to get into
- 3:08Speaker 1: this line of helping humankind.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Well, I saw how understanding mindset changed my life and
- 3:13Speaker 2: understood that there were so many opportunities as I grew
- 3:16Speaker 2: up that I missed out on because I was too afraid.
- 3:18Speaker 2: I was afraid of failing. And so when I look
- 3:20Speaker 2: back and say, oh, if I had only known what
- 3:22Speaker 2: I know now, there's so many other things I would
- 3:25Speaker 2: have done. And so people aren't really limited by their abilities.
- 3:28Speaker 2: They're limited by their beliefs and the stories they tell themselves.
- 3:32Speaker 2: And so if I can just help people break through
- 3:34Speaker 2: those limiting beliefs so they can, like you said, pursue
- 3:37Speaker 2: their passion and their dreams, then that's what I want
- 3:39Speaker 2: to be about.
- 3:40Speaker 1: We had an interesting moment right before we started rolling, folks,
- 3:43Speaker 1: where we're standing right behind where I'm at right now,
- 3:45Speaker 1: next to the edge of what is about a foot platform,
- 3:48Speaker 1: and I said to one of my constituents, I said,
- 3:51Speaker 1: don't fall, and Debbie goes, don't say don't fall, say
- 3:54Speaker 1: stand firmly on the platform. And I'm like, she's already
- 3:57Speaker 1: doing it. She's already working on me. What made you
- 4:01Speaker 1: realize that focusing on what you want is more powerful
- 4:04Speaker 1: than focusing on what you're trying to avoid.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Well, so, actually in high school I realized this. So
- 4:10Speaker 2: I was playing basketball. I did a lot of sports,
- 4:12Speaker 2: and so there's some games I was really on and
- 4:14Speaker 2: some games I was totally off, and I started thinking about,
- 4:16Speaker 2: why is that. It's not like I got that much
- 4:18Speaker 2: worse two days later or something, Right, So I started
- 4:21Speaker 2: just kind of paying attention to what I was thinking
- 4:22Speaker 2: about during those games.
- 4:24Speaker 3: And so the games that I was so focused.
- 4:26Speaker 2: On, oh, don't screw up, don't make a mistake, don't
- 4:29Speaker 2: throw the ball away, don't miss the shot, has exactly
- 4:31Speaker 2: what I did. And so the games I played, well,
- 4:34Speaker 2: I was just in the moment and I was just
- 4:36Speaker 2: playing and having fun. And I just didn't have all
- 4:38Speaker 2: this pressure on myself. And I started studying other athletes
- 4:40Speaker 2: and seeing what they did, and I'm like, Okay, I
- 4:42Speaker 2: just need to focus on what I want. And I
- 4:44Speaker 2: also read another book called Think Thin and Beefin, and
- 4:47Speaker 2: it talked about I had gained twenty five pounds my
- 4:49Speaker 2: freshman year in high school, and if you're an athlete,
- 4:51Speaker 2: twenty five pounds on the court is a lot to
- 4:53Speaker 2: drag around it.
- 4:54Speaker 3: So I'm doing the math.
- 4:55Speaker 2: I say, Okay, if I keep this up my senior year,
- 4:57Speaker 2: I'm going to be one hundred pounds overweight. So I've
- 4:58Speaker 2: got to figure this out. I really started studying diets
- 5:01Speaker 2: and focusing I got to lose weight.
- 5:03Speaker 3: I gotta lose weight.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Well, then I found this book, and of course I'd
- 5:05Speaker 2: lose some and then gain that back plus twice as much.
- 5:07Speaker 2: And so I read this book and it said, Okay,
- 5:10Speaker 2: when you focus on the weight, you just gain more weight.
- 5:13Speaker 2: So whatever you focus on, that's what you get more of.
- 5:15Speaker 2: And so when I realized that, it's like, Okay, quit
- 5:18Speaker 2: focusing on the weight and just start focusing on eating
- 5:21Speaker 2: the good foods that you want to eat, and then
- 5:23Speaker 2: people think differently than overweight people. So you really start
- 5:26Speaker 2: to think like advantaging yourself as if you've already achieved
- 5:29Speaker 2: the goal. So if I want to be a thin
- 5:30Speaker 2: person then or a healthy person, I just start I
- 5:33Speaker 2: need to start thinking like a thin or a healthy person.
- 5:35Speaker 3: So what would a healthy person do? What choices would
- 5:37Speaker 3: they make?
- 5:37Speaker 2: And just start acting as if you've already accomplished that goal.
- 5:41Speaker 1: It's interesting that you see it framed that way because
- 5:44Speaker 1: I have said my whole life that people's fear of
- 5:46Speaker 1: places like hell or discipline from God, they typically aren't
- 5:51Speaker 1: sustainable methodologies for I guess walking in a Christian calling,
- 5:57Speaker 1: walking in His will for your life. They're very fleeting.
- 5:59Speaker 1: And of course my father was the late great doctor
- 6:02Speaker 1: Thomas Horne. He did big tent revivals in the seventies.
- 6:05Speaker 1: He led innumerable people to the Lord, and he often
- 6:08Speaker 1: would say that that people would, you know, they would
- 6:10Speaker 1: listen to the hell fire brimstone messages and they would
- 6:14Speaker 1: be scared into Jesus. Right. They'd find they come to
- 6:17Speaker 1: Jesus because they want to avoid discipline or chaos or
- 6:20Speaker 1: the hell fire and the brimstone. But being motivated by
- 6:23Speaker 1: a fearful outcome is usually not super sustainable. People are
- 6:26Speaker 1: more attracted to falling in love with Jesus when they
- 6:28Speaker 1: experience his holding power and his blessings. And you're doing
- 6:32Speaker 1: this life, that's going to be what filled with trouble.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Right in this life, there's going to be what trouble.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Jesus is a sustaining power that helps us get through
- 6:42Speaker 1: those things. I want to bring up a scripture very
- 6:44Speaker 1: quickly Romans twelve two, because I think it applies here.
- 6:47Speaker 1: It says, do not conform to the pattern of this world,
- 6:50Speaker 1: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind Debbie Traeger.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Then you will be able to test and approve what
- 6:58Speaker 1: God's will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will. Is
- 7:03Speaker 1: that not what Debbie's describing it? Why do you think
- 7:11Speaker 1: it's human? Can I say it's human nature? I don't
- 7:13Speaker 1: know if you agree with that, but at least from
- 7:15Speaker 1: my vantage point, why do you think so many people,
- 7:18Speaker 1: if it's not human nature in total, get stuck focusing
- 7:22Speaker 1: on what they're afraid of or what they want to avoid,
- 7:24Speaker 1: and that becomes their motivation to go this way as
- 7:26Speaker 1: opposed to embracing the thing that maybe God's leading them forward.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Well, I think that that's kind of the way over design, honestly.
- 7:32Speaker 2: I mean, there's our ego is there to make sure
- 7:35Speaker 2: that we get from birth to death as safe as possible.
- 7:38Speaker 2: So it's always like looking out for, you know, what
- 7:41Speaker 2: to avoid so they can keep you safe. But sometimes
- 7:43Speaker 2: that gets in the way of you actually being able
- 7:46Speaker 2: to pursue your goals because that fear, that fight or
- 7:48Speaker 2: flight is put in it to us by God just
- 7:50Speaker 2: to keep us safe from getting eaten by wild animals
- 7:53Speaker 2: and a and that's a fear that we should, you know, respect, right. However,
- 7:57Speaker 2: that same feeling, that same you know, fear gets kind
- 8:02Speaker 2: of wrapped up when we just feel uncomfortable, and then
- 8:05Speaker 2: that same fight or flight feeling when we're just doing
- 8:07Speaker 2: something new that is kind of over that overwhelming fear
- 8:09Speaker 2: kind of comes onto us. It almost feels like it's
- 8:11Speaker 2: like a bear chasing it's when it's really not, and
- 8:13Speaker 2: so we want to avoid that. So I think that's
- 8:15Speaker 2: just way our brain's designed is to keep us safe,
- 8:18Speaker 2: and so we avoid things that make us feel uncomfortable.
- 8:20Speaker 2: That's the reason I try to do things that make
- 8:22Speaker 2: me feel uncomfortable all the time, because just.
- 8:24Speaker 3: To get used to that.
- 8:24Speaker 2: This is how you always feel when you're doing something new.
- 8:28Speaker 2: And fear shows up a lot of different ways. Sometimes
- 8:30Speaker 2: it looks like procrastination, it looked like over analyzing, like
- 8:34Speaker 2: you've got to get all the information before you're going
- 8:36Speaker 2: to do anything.
- 8:37Speaker 3: And that's just really kind of your brain.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Just protecting you, because your brain just wants to your
- 8:42Speaker 2: subconscious just wants to stay with the running program. It
- 8:45Speaker 2: doesn't like change, and so it will do its best
- 8:47Speaker 2: just to keep you stuck in this little platform. So
- 8:50Speaker 2: doesn't want to change. So fear can show up a
- 8:52Speaker 2: lot of different ways.
- 8:54Speaker 1: It's funny that you described that that way, because I've
- 8:56Speaker 1: always thought that was one of my giftings. But arendous
- 9:00Speaker 1: physical tolls for thinking that way? And you're right, you know,
- 9:03Speaker 1: my life I always told you know, everybody that administrates
- 9:05Speaker 1: around me, I've always told them, you know, I'm the
- 9:07Speaker 1: guy you bring in at the end when you think
- 9:09Speaker 1: you've got a plan, and I'll start pulling apart, you know,
- 9:11Speaker 1: the blind spots. And I've always thought that that was
- 9:14Speaker 1: a good way to be a completionist. That God is
- 9:15Speaker 1: using that. But I have and there is there is
- 9:18Speaker 1: wisdom and being cautious and pragmatic and thinking through things.
- 9:21Speaker 1: But I then step over what you're talking about, that
- 9:23Speaker 1: line between cautious and pragmatic into like fear and anxiety,
- 9:27Speaker 1: the fear that this is going to go south real quick,
- 9:29Speaker 1: and it ends up being paralyzing and a lot of
- 9:31Speaker 1: times I hate it, but it's you know, my decision
- 9:33Speaker 1: making is very slow. It's not keeping up with all
- 9:36Speaker 1: the demands of everything, and I've paid a toll with
- 9:38Speaker 1: my cortisol and my health from doing exactly the thing, Debbie,
- 9:42Speaker 1: that you're describing. So I need to work on looking
- 9:46Speaker 1: at ministry, Billy Coppage, more through the lens of what
- 9:49Speaker 1: we feel God is moving us towards, as opposed to
- 9:51Speaker 1: strategies to avoid the dismantling of the damage that may
- 9:54Speaker 1: be incurred if we make a misstep or we mispackage something.
- 9:57Speaker 1: We hear terms like conscious mind, and that's something that
- 10:01Speaker 1: a lot of new agers have kind of hijacked and
- 10:03Speaker 1: tormented into something else that isn't biblical subconscious mind and
- 10:08Speaker 1: then ego. But for someone hearing this for the first time,
- 10:11Speaker 1: how would you explain the difference between you know, conscious mind,
- 10:16Speaker 1: subconscious and ego in maybe a very simple way.
- 10:19Speaker 2: So your conscious mind is kind of that part of
- 10:21Speaker 2: your mind that makes decisions and it's very logical, and
- 10:24Speaker 2: I kind of like to think of your brain as
- 10:27Speaker 2: like a computer. So the monitor is, would you say,
- 10:29Speaker 2: is your conscious mind. That's just what you're aware of,
- 10:31Speaker 2: is on the monitor. And then the hard drive is
- 10:33Speaker 2: where all the programs run, all the software. So in
- 10:36Speaker 2: your subconscious that's where all your memories are stored, all
- 10:39Speaker 2: your feelings, all your beliefs, and it runs all the
- 10:41Speaker 2: automatic programs. It's kind of like when you first learn
- 10:43Speaker 2: to drive a car. I mean, you consciously had to say, okay,
- 10:46Speaker 2: now I'm turning on the key and I'm backing up,
- 10:49Speaker 2: and you're paying attention to all that. But after you
- 10:51Speaker 2: learn to do that, it's just an automatic program that runs.
- 10:53Speaker 2: You just get in and you just kind of go
- 10:55Speaker 2: off somewhere and you don't even realize how you got
- 10:57Speaker 2: home rights because your automatic program is running that. Well,
- 11:00Speaker 2: a lot of us we have beliefs that we don't
- 11:02Speaker 2: even realize are there because fifty percent of what we
- 11:05Speaker 2: believe we decided before we were five years old, just
- 11:08Speaker 2: because parents told us this is what's true, and then
- 11:11Speaker 2: we just believed it because we didn't have the ability
- 11:13Speaker 2: because our brain was informed to be able to consciously,
- 11:16Speaker 2: like you know, say is that true or is that
- 11:19Speaker 2: not true? And so we just took it as a belief.
- 11:21Speaker 2: And so we grow up, you know, just having these
- 11:24Speaker 2: things that we believe. We don't recognize them as beliefs.
- 11:26Speaker 2: We just think they're true. And that kind of runs
- 11:28Speaker 2: in the background program and maybe keeps us from doing
- 11:31Speaker 2: things that we might have done, you know, otherwise. And
- 11:34Speaker 2: then the ego is there, like I said, to keep
- 11:36Speaker 2: us safe. And then the ego's job is to just
- 11:38Speaker 2: remind us to be safe and keep us there, but
- 11:41Speaker 2: also to make sure that we're right. So whatever we
- 11:43Speaker 2: believe is true, it's going to make sure you continually
- 11:46Speaker 2: see validation that that belief is true. So let's just say,
- 11:50Speaker 2: for an example, a kid grows up and they trip
- 11:53Speaker 2: or fall right, some adults says, oh, wow, you're just
- 11:55Speaker 2: so clumsy. Then the kid they trip again, and they go, oh,
- 11:58Speaker 2: you know, because I'm clumsy. So when you say I am,
- 12:02Speaker 2: and then whatever you say after that, you've just defined yourself.
- 12:06Speaker 3: So what does God says he is I am? The great.
- 12:07Speaker 3: I am, I'm the beginning, the end, and everything that
- 12:10Speaker 3: will be right.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Our words have power, and so when we speak those
- 12:13Speaker 2: things over ourselves is powerful. It creates something okay, And
- 12:17Speaker 2: so whatever we say I am, then we've just defined
- 12:20Speaker 2: ourselves and then our subconscious and our ego are there
- 12:23Speaker 2: to make sure we've got to keep this identity. We've
- 12:26Speaker 2: got to keep this identity. So it just puts you
- 12:29Speaker 2: in this little box.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Do you think that's why the I don't know if
- 12:32Speaker 1: this is the right terminology, but the automatic subconscious, the
- 12:35Speaker 1: one that was in development at these very young ages
- 12:38Speaker 1: that have never gone back to be challenged. People have
- 12:41Speaker 1: never self navigated their way to go back and wodify
- 12:43Speaker 1: whether or not something that was spoken over them really
- 12:46Speaker 1: indeed is who they are. Do you think that that
- 12:48Speaker 1: is part of what's sabotaging people that are trying to
- 12:50Speaker 1: set goals and to believe in something different than what
- 12:54Speaker 1: they're stuck in, right, and they don't even see it.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Well, and you take somebody who like they maybe they
- 12:58Speaker 2: say they want to be financially successful, and they everything
- 13:01Speaker 2: they do just fails, and that they're constantly failing at that,
- 13:04Speaker 2: there's probably a belief about money, about people who are
- 13:08Speaker 2: wealthy that they don't even realize they have. And as
- 13:10Speaker 2: long as your ego judges people who have what you
- 13:14Speaker 2: say you want, it's not going to allow you to
- 13:16Speaker 2: get there. Well, this lady that I was working with,
- 13:19Speaker 2: she came into my office and she lost about fifty pounds,
- 13:21Speaker 2: and we've been working through these things. But then the
- 13:23Speaker 2: last couple of weeks she came in she'd started kind
- 13:26Speaker 2: of gaining weight back, and I said to her, I said,
- 13:27Speaker 2: it seems like you're sabotaging yourself as so why do
- 13:30Speaker 2: you think you're doing this? And she says, I really
- 13:32Speaker 2: don't know, And so I asked her, I said, well,
- 13:33Speaker 2: what do you think about thin women? And she goes, well,
- 13:35Speaker 2: I think they're skinny and she said the bee word,
- 13:37Speaker 2: and I said, WHOA. Okay, Well I think that's really
- 13:39Speaker 2: going to be a problem. Okay, because as long as
- 13:41Speaker 2: you feel that way about thin women, you're never going
- 13:43Speaker 2: to be one that you neither need to change the
- 13:45Speaker 2: way you feel about those women, or you're never going
- 13:49Speaker 2: to get there. Maybe someday in the supermarket or something.
- 13:51Speaker 2: This thin women cut her off and said something bad
- 13:54Speaker 2: and then she just immediately our brain tries to put
- 13:56Speaker 2: a meaning behind something and just kind of gives some context. So, oh,
- 13:59Speaker 2: that's because those women are just those kind of people.
- 14:02Speaker 2: So now anytime she sees it, then woman she gets
- 14:05Speaker 2: has that interaction, and that's the way that interaction goes.
- 14:08Speaker 2: But if you believe that those people were kind and nice,
- 14:10Speaker 2: then you would probably notice kind or nice women. Have
- 14:13Speaker 2: you ever purchased a car and you don't think anybody
- 14:16Speaker 2: has that car? You know, you don't really see that
- 14:17Speaker 2: on the road very much, But then after you buy
- 14:19Speaker 2: that car, you see it everywhere, right, Okay, So that's
- 14:22Speaker 2: how the subconscious works, Okay, And so it's kind of
- 14:24Speaker 2: like when you believe something, then everything you see you
- 14:27Speaker 2: only highlight those things that validate that belief.
- 14:29Speaker 1: I would not say this is mystical. There's nothing mystical
- 14:32Speaker 1: taking place here. Are you suggesting that the blockage is
- 14:37Speaker 1: unknown to the experience or the person that can't seem
- 14:40Speaker 1: to break their cycle because it prevents them from making
- 14:45Speaker 1: the decisions to pursue the ideal weight for them in
- 14:48Speaker 1: ways that they don't see. So there's nothing mystical. It's
- 14:51Speaker 1: about having a bias against let's say a thin woman
- 14:55Speaker 1: because they judge them to be bougie or wealthier better
- 14:58Speaker 1: than others, or whatever kind what they comfort e. There's
- 15:01Speaker 1: an explanation for why then they're not losing the weight
- 15:04Speaker 1: beyond just they have a predisposition to be biased against
- 15:07Speaker 1: thin women. Like what is the blockage? Where are they
- 15:09Speaker 1: getting stuck?
- 15:10Speaker 2: Well? I think if you have that belief that thin
- 15:13Speaker 2: women are just unkind people or not nice whatever, your
- 15:16Speaker 2: body's just not going to let you get there because
- 15:18Speaker 2: it doesn't want you to be that person. So if
- 15:20Speaker 2: you're judging someone that you want to be, that they
- 15:23Speaker 2: have what you want, then you're not going to get there.
- 15:26Speaker 4: I don't know about the audience, but I'm finding this
- 15:27Speaker 4: really relatable. Is anyone else connecting with this? Do you
- 15:30Speaker 4: have God's going through your head? I definitely am, In fact,
- 15:34Speaker 4: I on both sides when I go through my childhood
- 15:37Speaker 4: and also as a parent, thoughts in my head. You know,
- 15:40Speaker 4: you make a comment, maybe you're trying to brush off something,
- 15:44Speaker 4: but you are not aware of what you are planning
- 15:46Speaker 4: in your child's head. I know when I was young,
- 15:48Speaker 4: my mom pinched the fat on my side, and I'm
- 15:50Speaker 4: not throwing her under the bus. We have a great relationship.
- 15:52Speaker 4: She already knows about this issue that I have. She
- 15:54Speaker 4: pinched the fat on my side and she's like, you
- 15:56Speaker 4: need to go on a diet. And that was my
- 15:57Speaker 4: first awareness of my eight and that I need to
- 16:01Speaker 4: do something about it. And she did it out of
- 16:03Speaker 4: love because she has struggled with her weight her whole life,
- 16:06Speaker 4: and she was trying to bring awareness early so that
- 16:08Speaker 4: maybe I could cut it off. But I just ended
- 16:10Speaker 4: up falling into the same yoyo dieting patterns and everything.
- 16:13Speaker 4: And so wow, from both And I know our audience,
- 16:17Speaker 4: I'm sure can think of something that they have labeled
- 16:20Speaker 4: themselves because of this, or maybe something they have noticed
- 16:23Speaker 4: that they are putting on their children that they can
- 16:25Speaker 4: now try to cut off and circumvent and get rid
- 16:28Speaker 4: of that.
- 16:28Speaker 1: So well, there is absolutely power. We know this from
- 16:31Speaker 1: the Bible. There's power in the words that we speak,
- 16:33Speaker 1: so self deprecation, Like you've explained, you're sending your body.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Whether it knows that this is conscious or subconscious or not,
- 16:41Speaker 1: you're sending your body. You're sending yourselves a message that
- 16:43Speaker 1: I am not worthy like and I'm probably guilty of this.
- 16:46Speaker 1: I'm constantly disparaging my bald headedness and talking about man.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Is the court is all weight showing through my tie?
- 16:52Speaker 1: Is this a good color for me? Because I'm on TV?
- 16:55Speaker 4: We do try to stop it. By the way, we
- 16:56Speaker 4: don't just let them get away with us.
- 16:59Speaker 1: I'm not going to say I succeed one hundred percent
- 17:01Speaker 1: and the Debbie trigger teaching methodologies.
- 17:05Speaker 4: But I'm learning.
- 17:06Speaker 1: I'm learning some stuff. How do limiting beliefs take root
- 17:09Speaker 1: in the first place, and what does it look like
- 17:11Speaker 1: to replace those with truth, especially when they don't line
- 17:14Speaker 1: up with who God says?
- 17:15Speaker 2: We are so limiting beliefs, I mean they start, like
- 17:18Speaker 2: we said, maybe a parent says something and then you
- 17:20Speaker 2: define yourself as that, or maybe something happens to you
- 17:24Speaker 2: and our brain tries to find some meanings. It's an
- 17:26Speaker 2: event that happens, and our brain's trying to find out
- 17:28Speaker 2: why and make some kind of meaning behind it. So, yeah,
- 17:32Speaker 2: I rationalize it, Well, that's just because I'm stupid, that's
- 17:35Speaker 2: just because I'm not smart enough. I got passed over,
- 17:37Speaker 2: just because I'm not this or I'm not that. So
- 17:38Speaker 2: we try to rationalize and kind of put some meaning
- 17:41Speaker 2: to it. And so a root belief gets set that way.
- 17:44Speaker 2: And I also believe that sometimes not all of our
- 17:47Speaker 2: thoughts that go through our head are actually our thoughts.
- 17:49Speaker 2: I don't believe. I think Dayton plants things in there, yeah,
- 17:52Speaker 2: you know, to try to sabotage us, to keep us
- 17:54Speaker 2: from getting out of our box.
- 17:56Speaker 3: You know, maybe we're getting too.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Dangerous captive every thought right.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Exactly, And I really encourage people to like pay attention
- 18:02Speaker 2: to what you're telling yourself, the thoughts they're going through
- 18:05Speaker 2: your head, and if it doesn't line up with God,
- 18:06Speaker 2: who says you are, then that's not you, okay. Statan
- 18:10Speaker 2: is about fear, and he wants to create fear that's
- 18:12Speaker 2: not from God.
- 18:13Speaker 3: Right. Well, it's kind of interesting.
- 18:16Speaker 2: When they built a golden gate bridge, there was there
- 18:18Speaker 2: many people who fell off that bridge in the process
- 18:20Speaker 2: of building it because they were so afraid of falling.
- 18:22Speaker 2: And then they built a net to go under the bridge,
- 18:25Speaker 2: and then no one fell after that because no one
- 18:27Speaker 2: was worried about falling. And so you think about it.
- 18:29Speaker 2: So Jesus died for our sins, you know, he covered
- 18:32Speaker 2: everything we're ever going to do, any mess up that
- 18:34Speaker 2: we make, so he's got it. So we don't have
- 18:36Speaker 2: to worry about falling because there's a net, right, So
- 18:40Speaker 2: we can just focus on what we want and where
- 18:42Speaker 2: we want to go, and we don't have to worry
- 18:44Speaker 2: about you know, those other things.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a difference between repentance. A repentant person, you know,
- 18:51Speaker 1: go forward and sin no more. There is a time
- 18:53Speaker 1: and a season to be repentant. So this is not
- 18:56Speaker 1: Debbie Tegger saying you have license to do whatever you
- 18:58Speaker 1: want because God's already paid the price. There's a repentant human.
- 19:01Speaker 1: But what we are talking about is mental blockages, a
- 19:05Speaker 1: lot of them self assigned or assigned by others. This
- 19:07Speaker 1: is something we see a lot at Whispering Pony's Ranch
- 19:09Speaker 1: every year when we deal with children that are in
- 19:12Speaker 1: desperate need of therapy. Debbie, you got to see it.
- 19:14Speaker 1: I want Debbie to come out and see what we
- 19:15Speaker 1: do with these well, for real, we deal with some
- 19:23Speaker 1: of the most shut down, psychologically traumatized, physically traumatized kids ever.
- 19:29Speaker 4: Do you remember Susie Her mother called her a scaredy cat.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Yes, yes, perfect example, Thank you, little Susie. Last year
- 19:35Speaker 1: she's up on the zip line with me and Jamie Woodle,
- 19:37Speaker 1: who are running this event. It's a place where children
- 19:40Speaker 1: can come and experience like a challenge. They have to
- 19:43Speaker 1: overcome their fear of heights and trust the equipment that
- 19:46Speaker 1: they're going to ride this zipline to completion and that
- 19:49Speaker 1: Uncle Joe has done a good job and they're going
- 19:51Speaker 1: to be safe. Well, she's crying, she's crying, she's crying,
- 19:55Speaker 1: she's crying. And finally, after like three or four days
- 19:58Speaker 1: of this going on, up and she won't do the
- 20:01Speaker 1: zip line and she cries, and she comes again the
- 20:03Speaker 1: next day, and then she cries, and the next day
- 20:04Speaker 1: she comes and she cries. Finally she says, I'm a
- 20:07Speaker 1: scaredy cat. And I think it was Jamie said, why
- 20:10Speaker 1: do you say that? And she says, my mom told
- 20:13Speaker 1: me I'm a scaredy cat. And so this is a
- 20:15Speaker 1: perfect example on display of a child who has had
- 20:19Speaker 1: things spoken over them Debbie Traeger. And now she is
- 20:22Speaker 1: living out like a can you would you call it
- 20:24Speaker 1: a self fulfilling prophecy. She's limiting herself away from what
- 20:28Speaker 1: she wants, which is to ride the zip This is
- 20:30Speaker 1: why she keeps coming back because somebody has spoken over
- 20:32Speaker 1: her that she's a scaredy cat. This is something she's
- 20:34Speaker 1: brought into. Is that a good example?
- 20:36Speaker 3: Yeah, it's right perfect.
- 20:37Speaker 1: There's a couple more things I want to get to
- 20:39Speaker 1: before we run out of time. And these programs always
- 20:41Speaker 1: go so fast, Debbie. But why does fear tend to
- 20:43Speaker 1: show up right before a breakthrough? And how should we
- 20:47Speaker 1: be responding when fear rears its.
- 20:49Speaker 3: Ugly head, Well, right before the breakthrough.
- 20:52Speaker 2: That's just your ego's final thing, just to keep you stuck,
- 20:56Speaker 2: because it just reminding you this is not your identity.
- 20:59Speaker 2: It's kind of like your old self breaking through the
- 21:01Speaker 2: doorway to the new self. And so that last fear
- 21:04Speaker 2: is like it, this is really what you want. I
- 21:06Speaker 2: kind of got a vision of like when you go
- 21:08Speaker 2: to a circus and you see like a horse jumping
- 21:10Speaker 2: through a firing ring or something. I mean, it's just like, okay,
- 21:13Speaker 2: the firing ring and you just got to go through it.
- 21:16Speaker 3: It's not a wall.
- 21:16Speaker 2: I mean, it's just but you've got to go through it.
- 21:19Speaker 2: You know, there's a book called the tipping Point, you know,
- 21:20Speaker 2: and sometimes people quit just before they get to the tip.
- 21:23Speaker 2: You know, sometimes when you're starting a new business, doing
- 21:25Speaker 2: something new, it feels like you're pushing a boulder up
- 21:27Speaker 2: a hill, and you just got to keep pushing, keep
- 21:30Speaker 2: pushing it. At some point you get to the tipping point.
- 21:32Speaker 2: But that most people, a lot of people they stop
- 21:35Speaker 2: before they get to that tipping point and make it
- 21:37Speaker 2: over the home, just because it's just too scary.
- 21:40Speaker 3: What if it doesn't work out? What are people going
- 21:41Speaker 3: to say?
- 21:42Speaker 1: You know, so do you think it's some of that?
- 21:44Speaker 1: It's just the fear of failure, Like they don't actually
- 21:47Speaker 1: believe that they're going to break through anyway. And so
- 21:50Speaker 1: if they go over that threshold and then fail, they
- 21:52Speaker 1: show the world their talent, or they they show the
- 21:55Speaker 1: world their music, or they show the world their efforts
- 21:57Speaker 1: to lose weight or whatever. That it's just it's easier
- 22:00Speaker 1: to just.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Stay just stay stop, stop right because when you rise
- 22:03Speaker 2: above the cream, right, you rise to the top, you know,
- 22:05Speaker 2: people want they take shots at you. You know. I
- 22:08Speaker 2: had a manager say once that, you know, people don't
- 22:10Speaker 2: shoot at dead dogs, you know, so when you are
- 22:13Speaker 2: trying to rise up, there's people of trying to kind
- 22:14Speaker 2: of pull you back down or smack you back down.
- 22:17Speaker 2: The thing about successful people and Steve told me about
- 22:19Speaker 2: this quote that you heard from that, Michael jordan'said was
- 22:22Speaker 2: that Michael Jordan said, I'm successful because I failed so much.
- 22:25Speaker 2: And the thing about it, when we see successful people,
- 22:28Speaker 2: we don't see all the times they failed.
- 22:30Speaker 3: We just see the success finished product, right, you need to.
- 22:32Speaker 2: See the end, you know, And so we just think, oh, well,
- 22:35Speaker 2: they're just smarter, they've guys got more talent, They've just
- 22:37Speaker 2: got this, and we make excuses for ourselves to keep
- 22:39Speaker 2: us stuck.
- 22:40Speaker 1: You believe in the premise of failure in the sense
- 22:44Speaker 1: that you can fail things, or do you believe in
- 22:47Speaker 1: setbacks and then applying a positive mindset to moving forward.
- 22:51Speaker 1: There's a difference. In my view. Failure is I failed,
- 22:54Speaker 1: I'm done.
- 22:54Speaker 2: You're not done until God says you're done, okay, And
- 22:56Speaker 2: failing isn't failing, it's feedback. So that's why I kind
- 23:00Speaker 2: of reframe it is you're not failed, it's just that
- 23:03Speaker 2: wasn't right. Do it again, and this time do it different. Right,
- 23:05Speaker 2: You're just getting a feedback that that didn't work. Okay,
- 23:08Speaker 2: Now let's just do it again, because some.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Things are just not going to work out. I may
- 23:12Speaker 1: want to look better than I do, and you know,
- 23:14Speaker 1: look like I'm twenty years old again, and so there
- 23:17Speaker 1: probably is an element of being grounded and realistic at
- 23:19Speaker 1: the same time and not perceiving the fact that not
- 23:22Speaker 1: all of us can do all of the things that
- 23:23Speaker 1: our imaginations can daydream, and then feeling as though we
- 23:26Speaker 1: have failed because we didn't reach that. For example, I
- 23:30Speaker 1: may have at one time in my life, with enough
- 23:32Speaker 1: hard work, been capable of going to the NBA, but
- 23:34Speaker 1: at almost fifty and now having children and running ministries,
- 23:37Speaker 1: probably not going to be able not responsibly go try
- 23:41Speaker 1: out for the NBA. And I kind of want to
- 23:43Speaker 1: meet the guy that would want to pay me to
- 23:45Speaker 1: play in the NBA does exist. I don't know that
- 23:48Speaker 1: there's even that guy. But the point is being, you know,
- 23:51Speaker 1: being realistic somewhere between setting goals that are achievable. How
- 23:55Speaker 1: do you frame that setting goals that are achievable versus
- 23:58Speaker 1: maybe recognizing, you know, without being healthy about it, things
- 24:00Speaker 1: that are probably not suitable for you.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Yeah, but I mean a lot of people they just
- 24:05Speaker 2: let fear keep them from doing the sitting in goal.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Well, yeah, exactly. It's kind of like GPS.
- 24:10Speaker 2: It's like when you have your GPS, you don't put
- 24:13Speaker 2: all the places in that you don't want to go right,
- 24:15Speaker 2: You put in where you want to go, yeah, right,
- 24:17Speaker 2: and GPS doesn't even give you directions, and still you
- 24:20Speaker 2: start moving, so you don't even start taking steps. You've
- 24:24Speaker 2: got to taking steps. You've got to start doing something.
- 24:27Speaker 2: You can get all the information, and information does not
- 24:30Speaker 2: lead to transformation. So you've got to take action. You've
- 24:33Speaker 2: got to start taking the steps. And sometimes it doesn't
- 24:36Speaker 2: feel like you're getting anywhere. But just like GPS, you know,
- 24:39Speaker 2: maybe you made the wrong term, but you just got
- 24:40Speaker 2: to recenter and just keep going. You don't just stop
- 24:43Speaker 2: there and say, oh, I guess I couldn't get there.
- 24:44Speaker 2: I mean, you just say, okay, now which way do
- 24:46Speaker 2: we go? So goals are like that. You just got
- 24:48Speaker 2: to constantly keep refocusing, okay, and focus on what you
- 24:52Speaker 2: want and really visualize. If you can visualize it, you
- 24:55Speaker 2: can be it, you know, as long as it's kind
- 24:58Speaker 2: of real realistic, like you're not to be in the
- 25:00Speaker 2: NBA or stuff like that.
- 25:06Speaker 1: I'm sorry, Okay, My family is walking this out as
- 25:08Speaker 1: we speak. You know. We have dreams to start programs
- 25:11Speaker 1: for kids. We want to do live music. There's things
- 25:13Speaker 1: and I and my Sister Donna Howell, who's in house
- 25:16Speaker 1: with us today and I have talked about many times.
- 25:19Speaker 1: We do, like you said, all the information, everything we've
- 25:21Speaker 1: learned about TV packaging, production, graphics, networks, all the stuff,
- 25:28Speaker 1: and all of that could be beneficial, but none of
- 25:30Speaker 1: that happens. I don't have the money for what I
- 25:32Speaker 1: want to do yet. I don't have the resources or
- 25:35Speaker 1: the employees that I'm going to have to hire if
- 25:37Speaker 1: we get there. But like none of it comes to past, Debbie,
- 25:40Speaker 1: if we don't start somewhere, are somewhere started with our
- 25:44Speaker 1: cell phones. We're playing now with some programs suitable for
- 25:47Speaker 1: teens that are comedy based but basically point out the
- 25:50Speaker 1: irony of how church is getting certain theological things wrong,
- 25:53Speaker 1: and it's it's trying to appeal to young people in
- 25:55Speaker 1: their sense of fun and entertainment with a gospel message.
- 25:58Speaker 1: With just a couple of minutes left on the clock,
- 26:01Speaker 1: what is one simple shift if you're watching the show
- 26:04Speaker 1: that somebody can do with their perspective today that might
- 26:08Speaker 1: be helpful. And we're going to have Debbie back next
- 26:10Speaker 1: week for sure. Well tip that somebody can start applying
- 26:18Speaker 1: today that won't cost them anything.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Well, so first of all, just pay attention to what
- 26:22Speaker 2: you're thinking about, and pay attention to the thoughts they're
- 26:24Speaker 2: going through your head and see if that aligns with
- 26:26Speaker 2: what you want. You can catch yourself just sabotaging yourself
- 26:29Speaker 2: with just your thoughts, and then if there something that
- 26:31Speaker 2: you want to achieve, just start visualizing that to the
- 26:34Speaker 2: best that you can, and just visualize yourself as you've
- 26:37Speaker 2: already done it. You know, what does that feel like,
- 26:39Speaker 2: What do you feel in your body? What are you
- 26:40Speaker 2: telling yourself about how you accomplish that, and what that's
- 26:43Speaker 2: like to just live that out and then for seventeen
- 26:46Speaker 2: seconds a day just sit and get connect with the
- 26:49Speaker 2: emotion of that and just the feeling of that, because
- 26:52Speaker 2: if you can't get excited about it, you're not going
- 26:54Speaker 2: to motivate yourself to go do it. You can't let
- 26:57Speaker 2: go of something until you've got something else to reach for.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Yeah, this is really in line with a lot of
- 27:01Speaker 1: other therapists that I've talked with, where they talk about,
- 27:04Speaker 1: you know, being attached to the feelings that you might
- 27:08Speaker 1: experience when you're in that moment of being you know,
- 27:12Speaker 1: able to do the kids show, Yeah, and kind of
- 27:15Speaker 1: resting for a minute, because if God has given me
- 27:17Speaker 1: that dream to produce content for kids, much like you know,
- 27:21Speaker 1: the old Mister Rogers show, but doing it now for
- 27:24Speaker 1: a contemporized audience, you know, a PTL audience Christian distribution
- 27:29Speaker 1: for kids that joy. It's like a pre dividend on
- 27:32Speaker 1: what I hope to get to be able to do.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Is going to inspire me to keep doing the steps
- 27:37Speaker 1: towards that outcome.
- 27:39Speaker 2: So well, you just got to start where you are.
- 27:41Speaker 2: It's what you have, and then it will grow from there.
- 27:43Speaker 2: So you just do what you can right now.
- 27:51Speaker 1: Unfortunately we're all out of time, but I promise we
- 27:53Speaker 1: will have Debbie Tragger back next week. Ladies and gentlemen,
- 27:55Speaker 1: for everybody here in studio, Debbie Jamie, thank you so
- 27:58Speaker 1: much for being here right here Life TV. Now keep
- 28:01Speaker 1: your eyes on the prize, which is Jesus Christ. We'll
- 28:03Speaker 1: be back.
- 28:08Speaker 2: H
