- 0:07After a terrifying encounter with a demonic entity in the
- 0:11woods outside of their home, two brothers find themselves under
- 0:16attack by dark and malevolent forces.
- 0:21With no place or refuge from torment, not even their own
- 0:25home. Will they escape the wrath of a
- 0:28real life nightmare they have unearthed or will the darkness
- 0:33take them? This is the untold story of the
- 0:36demonic Shadow Man case that was experienced by brothers Tom and
- 0:42Tim Yancey. With the majority of my audience

- 1:26Lake Worth, FL Founded in 1913, City plays home to the arts,
- 1:33boasting festivals, boutiques, music venues and a historic
- 1:38theater. But amongst the songs, paintings
- 1:43and acting, it is also the home to something evil that lurks
- 1:48just beneath the surface. In the late 1960's the Yancey
- 1:53family called Lake Worth their home, living near the mostly
- 1:57underdeveloped southern woods in the town at that time.
- 2:01Brothers Tim and Tom along with their father Sonny and mother
- 2:06Barbara up until this. Point had lived a rather quiet.
- 2:10Life. Tim would describe his childhood
- 2:12home as a very peaceful and remote place to live.
- 2:17It was fairly isolated and in the middle of nowhere.
- 2:21His mother, Barbara was a beacon of light and joy, a woman who
- 2:26always had a diamond smile upon her face.
- 2:29His father was a stern man, a battle hardened Korean War
- 2:34veteran who then worked as a Carpenter doing construction.
- 2:39Sonny suffered from PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a
- 2:45result of the war and according to Barbara, was a totally
- 2:49different person when he came back.
- 2:52He had been a Sergeant in charge of a mortar platoon during the
- 2:55war and would very rarely speak of what had happened, although
- 3:00both of the brothers later would recall that he told them a few
- 3:03different stories of his time there.
- 3:06One story that following a battle he had to arrange for
- 3:10mass graves to be dug and for bulldozers to lay the dead to
- 3:15rest. While suffering with PTSD, Sonny
- 3:19tended to have a short fuse on his temper, but for some reason
- 3:24this particular summer it seemed to get inexplicably worse.
- 3:29Where the family lived was remote and surrounded by lush
- 3:32woods, and prior to being settled, the land where the
- 3:36house now stood had been heavily utilized during the slave trade,
- 3:41as well as being the home to numerous bouts of violence
- 3:45between warring Native American tribes.
- 3:48So with the combinations of the terrors of war and those
- 3:52experiencing persecution over the years, these heavy emotions
- 3:57seem to leak into the earth and the woods in and of themselves
- 4:01seem to become a beacon for darkness, almost as if the black
- 4:05hearts of those who perpetrated the axe still rested beneath the
- 4:09leaves, sticks and stones of the forest floor.
- 4:15Playing together as brothers often do, Tim and Tom would
- 4:18spend much time within those very same woods, bonding,
- 4:22exploring and having a great time.
- 4:25Sonny had built a Fort for the boys to enhance their time spent
- 4:29out there and at this time Tom was 12 years old and Tim was 7.
- 4:35One chilly fall day as Tom ventured into the woods alone.
- 4:39As he approached the Fort he began to get an eerie feeling as
- 4:44if someone or something was watching him with his inner
- 4:49voice screaming. He bolted and ran inside the
- 4:53Fort as he peered through the openings in between the various
- 4:57boards and peeking past the cloth covered windows.
- 5:01At first he saw nothing, but as his heart began to subside from
- 5:06beating out of his chest, he began to hear the crunching of
- 5:11crisp autumn leaves around him. And through the darkness of the
- 5:15boards he sees a silhouette of a creature.
- 5:19Although the figure appears man like something tells him that
- 5:23it's not of this world. Tom, doing the sensible thing,
- 5:28runs for his life, leaving the Fort behind.
- 5:32Terrified at what he had just experienced, he decides to not
- 5:36tell anyone about what had happened.
- 5:40As Tom ventures back to the house, disturbed by what he had
- 5:43been through, Tim had entered through another path in the
- 5:47woods, blissfully unaware of his brother's plight.
- 5:51As the boy walks the crispy path of dried leaves, he too begins
- 5:55to feel as if he's being watched.
- 5:58Then, in front of him, up in the tree, he sees something strange,
- 6:04something out of place. There in the tree, with the
- 6:08environment reacting around it. There appears to be some kind of
- 6:12creature, but this creature is either see through or it's
- 6:16reflecting its surroundings. Almost like a freakish
- 6:20distortion of reality, Perhaps something that shouldn't have
- 6:24been within the confines of our reality.
- 6:28As his eyes grow larger with fear, this entity begins to make
- 6:32its way down the tree and then lands in front of him, mere feet
- 6:36away from the boy, hitting the ground with a loud thud.
- 6:41This is enough to truly frighten the young man, and he, too
- 6:45similar to his brother, decides to run for the house, the one
- 6:49place a child should feel safe to be.
- 6:53Tim frantically makes his way out of the woods and quickly
- 6:56into the arms of his mother, who was near the front door of their
- 7:00house. After explaining things as best
- 7:02as he could, Barbara calms him with the love only a mother can
- 7:06provide, asking him to calm down.
- 7:10She tried her best to convince him that it was perhaps an
- 7:13animal that he had startled and that things would be OK.
- 7:17And although she did what she could, as we'll come to see,
- 7:21this would be far from what would take place.
- 7:24The brothers, in due time, would discuss the strangeness of their
- 7:28experiences in the woods with one another, confiding in each
- 7:32other and trying to make sense of just what this thing or what
- 7:37these things were. Fearing that even talking about
- 7:40it could prompt a visit, the boys did their best to move on
- 7:44and shift their focus to other activities, fearing that if they
- 7:48spoke of it they would invoke the wrath of what they began to
- 7:52call the Shadow man. During the day things seem to
- 7:57regain a small amount of normalcy, but at night the
- 8:01brothers began to see the very same figure outside, usually
- 8:05near the tree line, presenting a thick man like shadow, always
- 8:11watching and lurking like a wild animal stalking its prey.
- 8:17One night, as the moon peeks through the clouds overhead, Tim
- 8:21is jolted awake out of a sound sleep.
- 8:25With his eyes opening and slowly adjusting to the darkness of his
- 8:29room, he tries to make sense as to why he was suddenly woke up.
- 8:34As he glances towards his window with the faintest amount of
- 8:37moonlight illuminating the room, he sees a shadow go past.
- 8:42Scared beginning up to investigate, he reluctantly
- 8:46looks and he sees nothing. Thinking that perhaps his mind
- 8:51is playing tricks on him, Tim lays his head back down to try
- 8:55and sleep again. But as he gets comfortable,
- 8:58right before he closes his eyes, he again sees this menacing
- 9:03shadow pass by his window. Attempting to wake up his
- 9:07brother but unable to do so, he once again gathers the courage
- 9:12to take a look through the window.
- 9:15Peering around their yard and towards the tree line stare in
- 9:19the mists emanating from the woods, he sees the shadowy
- 9:23outline of a man, and this man appears to be staring directly
- 9:29into his soul from afar. It then suddenly begins to rush
- 9:34towards him. Absolutely petrified with fear,
- 9:38the young man let's out a blood curdling scream.
- 9:42His brother quickly wakes up and so do his parents, with Sunny
- 9:46being the first inside the room. He asked just what is happening.
- 9:51After being told by Tim that there was a man in the yard, he
- 9:55quickly grabs a flashlight and begins sweeping the property.
- 10:00He ultimately would find nothing.
- 10:03Several weeks later, as the boys slept in their room, 12 year old
- 10:08Tom starts acting strangely. Waking up to the sound of
- 10:12footsteps, Tim sees his brother in the middle of their room as
- 10:16he calls out to him. He receives no response and Tom
- 10:21then begins to walk and leave their room, calling out to their
- 10:26parents as well as his brother. Tim continues to follow him as
- 10:30he descends the stairs headed towards their front door, with
- 10:34Sonny and Barbara rushing close behind him.
- 10:37They watch as Tom heads out of the front door and into the
- 10:40yard. As Tim would describe it later,
- 10:44it was if he was being called out to something or there was
- 10:47something drawing him into those woods.
- 10:50It was very frightening for me because I knew there was
- 10:53something out there and I didn't understand why this was all
- 10:57happening. Sonny is able to wake the boy up
- 11:00as the four stand in the yard. Tom seemed to have been
- 11:03sleepwalking, unaware of what was taking place.
- 11:08Although this hadn't happened previously and was completely
- 11:11new to the family, this incident would be far from the last.
- 11:17For the next several weeks, Tom would continue to sleepwalk, at
- 11:22times with other members of the family, unaware that he was
- 11:25missing. Tom would find himself waking up
- 11:28next to the lake out in those foreboding woods to try and keep
- 11:33the boy from sleepwalking. His parents began to implement
- 11:37measures to keep him from leaving the house, frustrated
- 11:41and understandably so, having to get up late into the night.
- 11:45What soon became night after night, with Tom often able to
- 11:50maneuver his way out of locked rooms, they took to stacking
- 11:53chairs in front of the boy's room in hopes that this would
- 11:56prevent Tom from escaping and potentially hurting himself
- 12:01under one of his spells. Later that night, after the
- 12:04family had gone to bed, Tom took to waking up as per usual.
- 12:10As he aimlessly tries to unlock the door to their room, he wakes
- 12:14up Tim. Fearing that his brother would
- 12:16wake up their father, he tries to get him to wake up and
- 12:20realize just what he's doing. And while this is taking place,
- 12:25the closet door directly across the room from Tom begins to
- 12:28shudder. And then it opens by itself.
- 12:33Then, as if he was being controlled like a marionette
- 12:36puppet, Tom would turn around, face the closet, and then walk
- 12:43inside. Then, with the boy inside, the
- 12:47door would shut behind him once again, seemingly by itself, as
- 12:53if it were operated by unseen hands.
- 12:58Tim, scared but also transfixed on what was taking place, began
- 13:03to hear a conversation. He heard his brother speaking.
- 13:07Then he heard another voice, a low, gravelly, deep voice.
- 13:13This frightens the young Tim so bad that despite his fear of his
- 13:18father, he calls out to his parents for protection.
- 13:21And thankfully, his parents heed the call as they rushed to push
- 13:26the chairs aside. They finally do, and then throw
- 13:30the door open to find out just what had happened.
- 13:33Now Tim pointing to the closet indicates that Tom is inside.
- 13:40Heading to the closet door and opening it, they find the boys
- 13:43sat down inside, now apparently awake.
- 13:48Upon asking him just what was going on, all Tom could say was
- 13:52that there was a man in here. In later interviews, Tom would
- 13:57say that he remembers waking up inside the darkness of the
- 14:00closet to the voice of a man, and then upon speaking with him
- 14:05towards the back of the closet, he saw two red eyes.
- 14:09Staring back at him. Despite knowing of their son's
- 14:13sleepwalking, his parents tried to argue that he was clearly
- 14:17messing around in the closet, possibly playing with toys, and
- 14:22they then scolded both of the boys for waking them up yet
- 14:25again. In the weeks to come, as their
- 14:28parents grow increasingly angry, the Yancey brothers continue to
- 14:33experience the abyssal force that they have come to refer to
- 14:37as the Shadow Man. One night, the entity seems to
- 14:41find a new way of terrorizing the brothers.
- 14:45Tim has suddenly woken up when he begins to feel small things
- 14:49hit his comforter and mattress, feeling where the objects had
- 14:54fallen. His hands discover rocks like
- 14:58small pebbles and thinking it was his brother messing with
- 15:01him, he asked him to stop and then laid his head back down
- 15:06onto. His pillow and.
- 15:08Then more of them started falling, pelting the blanket
- 15:11that covered him. He now knows for certain it is
- 15:15not Tom because he's looking directly at him and he is fast
- 15:20asleep as the rocks continue falling onto him.
- 15:25He then discovers leaves and then pine cones as well.
- 15:29Then he feels something drop onto his head and this something
- 15:34begins to crawl, prying off whatever this thing was and
- 15:39throwing it. The boy begins to scream.
- 15:43Barbara soon comes to his aid and upon turning on the lights,
- 15:47she too finds the stones, pine cones, leaves, and to her
- 15:52surprise, giant Florida cockroaches.
- 15:56It was as if the shadow man was bringing in thanks from the
- 15:59woods, but for what reason remained unclear.
- 16:04It was with this incident that Barbara began to notice that
- 16:08perhaps it wasn't just the boy's imaginations at work, perhaps
- 16:13there was something terrorizing them.
- 16:16In the weeks that followed this incident, Barbara too begins to
- 16:20notice the ever growing hostile environment within the home and
- 16:24soon begins to seek answers from any and all sources.
- 16:30While her husband is at work and her children are at school, she
- 16:34purchases A Ouija board and upon returning home, places it on the
- 16:39coffee table in the living room. Not being into the occult
- 16:43previously, she doesn't really know what she's doing, but wants
- 16:48to do her best to communicate with whatever could be there and
- 16:52to try and seek answers as to why it was tormenting her
- 16:56family. She tries to make contact but
- 17:00doesn't receive any answers. Later that day, the family
- 17:05retires to their beds to catch some sleep.
- 17:09Little did they know of Barbara's attempts to contact
- 17:12the other side, and little did they know that hell was about to
- 17:16be unleashed upon them. As everyone drifts off to
- 17:20dreamland, Tim once again finds himself being woken up out of a
- 17:25dead sleep. Perhaps it was his intuition.
- 17:29It's hard to know for sure why, but as he wakes up and sits up
- 17:34in his bed, he sees a dark hand emerge from the closet in their
- 17:39room. As the familiar fear grips him,
- 17:43he gets up and shakes his brother Tom awake.
- 17:47And to Tom's disbelief, as he looks ahead where his brother is
- 17:52pointing, he too sees the hand. And then a more fuller figure
- 17:58begins to emerge from the closet opening before both of their
- 18:03eyes. The shadowy figure emerges,
- 18:06casting itself onto the wall with glowing red eyes staring at
- 18:12them. It begins to climb horizontally
- 18:15on the wall towards them. With the brothers absolutely
- 18:19shaken to their core. They scream for their parents as
- 18:24the figure dissipates as if it was never there.
- 18:29The two then rush out of their bedroom and run up to their
- 18:32parents bedroom and although apprehensive because of their
- 18:37father, they would rather deal with his wrath.
- 18:41Than that of the shadow. Man doing a knock and then
- 18:45opening their door. Tim leads the boys and calls out
- 18:49to their parents. He tells them that the man was
- 18:52back and that he was on their wall like a family.
- 18:57This bizarre statement from his son and the continuous lack of
- 19:01sleep prompts Sonny to explode. He tells the boys that there is
- 19:07no man, that they're dealing with the boogeyman, and that the
- 19:11boogeyman does bad things to bad kids and if they were good, he
- 19:16would simply just go away. With tears in his eyes, Tim and
- 19:22his brother would make their way back to their bedroom.
- 19:25Tim would later recall this notion that I was a bad kid,
- 19:30that I had done something wrong, and that something had come to
- 19:33punish me for my misdeeds is something that has stuck with me
- 19:38my entire life. I didn't know what I had done to
- 19:41deserve this. From that point on, the boys
- 19:45keep silent about the nightmare experiences that they had had
- 19:49with the entity known to them as the Shadow Man, but the entity
- 19:54seems to grow ever stronger. But even though they have been
- 19:58silent. The rage that dwells within
- 20:01their father, Sunny, also continues to grow.
- 20:06Tim later again would say he seemed to not understand what
- 20:10was happening in the house and this led to a lot of family
- 20:13dysfunction. Whether this attracted whatever
- 20:16this thing was to us or it fed off of the negative emotions or
- 20:20whatever, there was some kind of connection there.
- 20:25These entities seem to do this and it's like a coupling.
- 20:29The entity attaches itself to a family and then continues to
- 20:32cause problems and seems to derive energy from this.
- 20:38As time passes, the boys find themselves awake on the night of
- 20:43Christmas Eve. Being rambunctious kids as some
- 20:47of us were, they decided to sneak downstairs to take a peek
- 20:51at some of their Christmas presents under the family tree
- 20:55in the living room. The boys seem to be successful
- 20:59not alerting their parents to their sneaky endeavors
- 21:02downstairs when suddenly loud booming knocks begin to come
- 21:08from upstairs. Trying to figure out what could
- 21:11be causing it, they realize that they seem to be originating from
- 21:15their room downstairs upon their mantle next to the tree.
- 21:20Their mother had set up a nativity scene showing Mary.
- 21:24Joseph. And baby Jesus.
- 21:28As the banging intensifies further, the scene begins to
- 21:32shake and move. It then drops to the floor,
- 21:37shattering the porcelain figures, the breaking only
- 21:41adding to the concophony of sound now reverberating all
- 21:45throughout the house. Then the heavy footsteps of
- 21:48their father cuts through the noise as he descends the stairs.
- 21:53The boys are trapped, he is pissed and then he finds the
- 21:58shattered porcelain figures and this further enrages him as he
- 22:04interrogates the boys as to what they could have been doing.
- 22:08The boys deny causing the sounds.
- 22:11Or. Breaking the figures.
- 22:13But this too only serves to deepen his rage.
- 22:17Since the boys, quote, wanted to stay up, they could do so
- 22:22outside. Using a scare tactic, he marches
- 22:26the boys outside and into the yard right near the tree line of
- 22:31the forest. He tells them that he was going
- 22:35to get a good night's sleep and they were to stay outside all
- 22:40night. Little does he know he has
- 22:43inadvertently delivered his sons into the arms of perdition.
- 22:49The air is cold and bites at their skin as a large moon
- 22:53hovers above them and the low rustle of leaves surround them.
- 22:59The two young men, despite their best efforts to comfort one
- 23:03another, are absolutely paralyzed with fear.
- 23:07As they stand in the darkness of the night, they both suddenly
- 23:12hear the crunching of leaves from behind them.
- 23:15Upon turning around, they are besieged by the Shadow man yet
- 23:20again, screaming for their mother.
- 23:23As they run up to their deck, they beg to be let back into the
- 23:27house. Finally, their mothers woke up
- 23:31and forces their father to come with her and let the boys back
- 23:35in, finding the punishment to be cruel.
- 23:39Especially since she knows herself that there are things at
- 23:42work that none of them understand.
- 23:46Tim would later say this when interviewed.
- 23:49My father's anger continued to grow and he became increasingly
- 23:54frustrated. He would blame the noises on us
- 23:58and his punishments were severe. The goal of this monster seemed
- 24:02to be to create more anger, more chaos, and more depression
- 24:07within our family. The situation grew bleaker day
- 24:12after day on a cold and stormy night, as Tim laid in his bed.
- 24:18It was all too familiarly woken up without warning.
- 24:23This time, however, something was different.
- 24:26His sheets and blankets were pulled from him.
- 24:30Miss Tim would later say, You know something's there.
- 24:34It's in the room with you, and you've got to reach down and
- 24:39pull those sheets back up. The boy reaches down to do just
- 24:44that, appearing down as he grabs them off the floor.
- 24:48He thankfully doesn't see anything, pulling them back over
- 24:53himself. Now laying back down, he once
- 24:56again tries to get comfortable to sleep.
- 25:00As he starts to drift off, he then feels a sharp searing pain
- 25:05on the right side of his ribs. Feeling this pain, his eyes pop
- 25:10open to find what appears to be a long Bony hand coming from
- 25:15underneath his sheets. Scared for his life, the boy
- 25:19screeches and runs as fast as his legs will carry him.
- 25:24But being this scared, he had his blinders on because he ran
- 25:29directly into the door that was locked to try and prevent his
- 25:33brother from sleepwalking and ultimately leaving the house.
- 25:37He smacks into the door with a visceral.
- 25:40Crack. Screaming in pain and crashing
- 25:44to the ground. This prompted the attention of
- 25:47his parents, who came into the room to discover their son
- 25:51writhing in agony. They would quickly.
- 25:53Rush him to the hospital and it would turn out that Tim had
- 25:57broken both of his collarbones following this event.
- 26:02As the months turn to years, things from here did not get any
- 26:06better for the Yancey family. Tom, being the oldest when he
- 26:10became old enough, left the house as quickly as he could, no
- 26:14longer able to deal with the dark forces that dwelt there.
- 26:18Tim, Sonny and Barbara would not see him for years.
- 26:23Details past this pointer practically non existent, but I
- 26:27will do my best to bring a conclusion to this very haunting
- 26:30case based on what I could find over the next 30 years.
- 26:35Tom would play college football and then become a career
- 26:39firefighter. Tim, given all the experiences
- 26:43he experienced before and after his brother left, would become a
- 26:47paranormal investigator and a park Ranger.
- 26:50Drifting apart as people do, they wouldn't reconnect until
- 26:54after their parents were gone. Sonny and Barbara had continued
- 26:58to live at the same house the two had grown up in and had had
- 27:03all of their shadow man experiences.
- 27:05When the brothers inherited the house, they came back together
- 27:09to decide just what to do with it.
- 27:12Tom, who had done practically everything to never return to
- 27:15the house, would later recall that he had a sickening feeling
- 27:20in the pit of his stomach upon entering the house again, saying
- 27:24that it was just an evil, sickening feeling.
- 27:28As the brothers discussed things, it would become apparent
- 27:31that Tim wanted to move back into the home with his wife and
- 27:35reclaim it. So after working out a deal
- 27:38amongst themselves, that's exactly what Tim did.
- 27:42And by moving back in, he intended to cleanse the home to
- 27:46rid themselves once and for all of this ominous presence that it
- 27:51caused them so much pain. The entity they knew as the
- 27:55Shadow Man. Prior to moving in, Tim would
- 27:59reach out to his friend Roy Hall, who had dealt with violent
- 28:02hauntings for many years, to help him perform a cleansing
- 28:06ritual of the home. Roy believed that the entity was
- 28:09demonic in nature and haunted the family because Tim's father
- 28:14was abusive. Sunny, who was a Korean War
- 28:18veteran, probably saw a good amount of the.
- 28:20Horrors of war. He believed that because of
- 28:23Sunny's PTSD that perhaps the entity had been attached to the
- 28:27land and had seen this and exploited these problems as an
- 28:32entry into their lives, where it continued to wreak havoc upon
- 28:35all of them. As Roy would say in later
- 28:38interviews, these entities seek to cause further dysfunction.
- 28:42They feed upon it. The two men, on a rainy and
- 28:46dreary afternoon, would step into the home together.
- 28:50Roy would begin to pick up on the ominous thick atmosphere
- 28:54almost immediately, lighting incense and beginning various
- 28:58prayers. The two men go from room to room
- 29:01cleansing as they walk throughout the house.
- 29:05They sense that the presence is strongest in Tim and Tom's old
- 29:09room, calling out to God to cleanse the House of all evil
- 29:13and negativity. The process took about an hour,
- 29:16but following it, the energy in the house seems to be rid once
- 29:21and for all of the shadow man. Tim recalled that things felt
- 29:26different. They felt much lighter, as if we
- 29:30had displaced the negative energy within the home.
- 29:33In August of 2009, Tim, his wife Trish.
- 29:38And. Son Gabriel all moved into the
- 29:41Lakewood, Florida home. Although they never experienced
- 29:45anything to the degree the boys did while growing up within it,
- 29:49there still seemed to be an undercurrent of evil just right
- 29:53below the surface. In closing.
- 29:56It. Is believed that the dysfunction
- 29:58of the Yancey household was more than likely far worse than what
- 30:02the sons portrayed publicly, but to what extent I'm not sure.
- 30:08I did my best to dig as deep as I could and I believe Tim and
- 30:12Tom are both still alive, with Tim still being a consultant to
- 30:17various paranormal groups across the country.
- 30:20I did want to say that their story was a terrifying and a
- 30:24harrowing 1, and although somewhat anti climactic in the
- 30:28end as we know here on this channel, things don't always
- 30:32work out the way we want them to and cases don't always have some
- 30:36kind of ultimate showdown. But a few questions I was left
- 30:40with after researching this case were just what was the shadow
- 30:45man? Was it a demon?
- 30:48Did it exploit the vulnerabilities of the family,
- 30:51particularly sunny, in order to create a feedback loop of
- 30:55negativity in which it could enrich itself with?
- 30:59And although from the outside looking in, those that are still
- 31:02with us who were involved seem to be doing OK, but just how has
- 31:08surviving the haunting affected these two men on a daily basis?
- 31:12Do they still think about it as I occasionally do with my own
- 31:16experiences? All questions I may never have
- 31:20answers for, but one thing is certain.
- 31:24There was something evil that stalked The Woodlands
- 31:27surrounding the Yancey home. Something stalking like a
- 31:30predator seeking prey. And all the things seem to be
- 31:35dormant for now. These malevolent entities may
- 31:38still be watching and lurking just beneath the surface,
- 31:43waiting for the moment to strike.
- 31:46Don't let their victim. Be you.

- 33:03In the lush mountains of Taiwan, beneath the constant veil of
- 33:08mist and rain, a beautiful mansion promised comfort and
- 33:13prestige to an American family starting a new chapter abroad.
- 33:19But behind its glass walls and marble floors, something ancient
- 33:24was waiting. They were not alone.
- 33:28What began as whispers in the night soon grew into footsteps,
- 33:33voices calling from the dark, and finally, violent attacks no
- 33:39skeptic could dismiss. The bishops had unknowingly
- 33:43stepped into a battlefield between the living and the
- 33:47restless. Dead.
- 33:49Spirits starved of offerings, bound by tragedy and hungry for
- 33:55the energy of the living. This is their story, true,
- 34:00terrifying and unforgettable. In the humid nights of Taiwan,
- 34:07when the summer rain swell rivers and missed coils through
- 34:11the valleys, there is a month that no family dares to ignore.
- 34:17Lanterns glow at doorways, incense smoulders on sidewalks,
- 34:24and baskets of food are left on Stoops, not for the living but
- 34:30for the dead. This is Ghost Month, the time
- 34:34when the gates of the underworld are said to open, releasing the
- 34:39restless and the hungry into the world of men.
- 34:44In Chinese belief, these are not the honored ancestors who
- 34:48receive reverent offerings at family altars.
- 34:52These are the forgotten dead, the souls of those who perished
- 34:57violently or without descendants to honor them.
- 35:01They wander, gaunt and hollow, tormented by insatiable
- 35:07appetites that rice wine and paper money can only briefly
- 35:14ease. They are known as the Uruguay,
- 35:19the hungry ghosts. To neglect them is to invite
- 35:23disaster. Fire start without cause.
- 35:28Illness takes root. Misfortune stalks a household
- 35:32until it buckles under the weight of unseen company.
- 35:37So each August, families appease the hungry dead with careful
- 35:41rituals. The living light, the path of
- 35:45the forgotten, hoping that food and flame will buy peace for
- 35:50another year. But what of those places where
- 35:54violence left a scar so deep the earth itself refuses to forget?
- 36:01What of homes raised on soil blackened by tragedy, where
- 36:05spirits were never guided onward, never offered release?
- 36:12It was in such a valley that the Bishop family would come to
- 36:15live. An American father, his wife and
- 36:20two daughters, strangers to Taiwan's ancient customs,
- 36:25arrived with optimism and curiosity.
- 36:30They believed the house they were given was a gift, a token
- 36:34of success. They could not know that it was
- 36:37already claimed by others, souls that had not left and perhaps
- 36:46would never leave without taking something in return.
- 36:53The bishops would learn, as countless Taiwanese had
- 36:56whispered for centuries, that the hungry dead do not sleep.
- 37:01They linger, waiting for the living to feed them.
- 37:06And in the mountains outside Taipei, in a mansion gleaming
- 37:10with glass and marble, those spirits had waited long enough.
- 37:17The year was 1984. An opportunity had knocked for
- 37:21Dennis Bishop. After years of grinding the
- 37:25corporate ladder, he had finally been promoted to a senior
- 37:30position with his company, a posting that would take him and
- 37:35his family halfway across the world to Taipei, Taiwan.
- 37:41To Dennis, it was a dream. To Candace, his wife, it was a
- 37:46step into the unknown. For their daughters, Stacy, who
- 37:52was 16 at the time, and Marissa, who was just 12, it was an
- 37:57adventure waiting to unfold. The company spared no expense.
- 38:04A driver was provided, as well as housing befitting Dennis's
- 38:08new stature as ACEO. The bishops, accustomed to
- 38:14modest suburban living in the States, were stunned when they
- 38:18were taken to see the house that would become their home.
- 38:23It sat at the base of the miss draped Yang Ming mountains,
- 38:27massive and imposing, far from the bustle of Taipei's crowded
- 38:33streets. The road curved past rice
- 38:37paddies, scattered cemeteries and the ruins of farms until the
- 38:43driver slowed before the gates. Beyond them, the mansion rose
- 38:50like a fortress, it's large windows reflecting the Gray sky.
- 38:56For Marissa, it was breathtaking.
- 38:59The biggest house I'd ever seen, she whispered, her eyes
- 39:03sparkling with excitement. After years of cramped
- 39:06apartments, here was a palace, complete with a swimming pool
- 39:11shimmering in the humid air. She imagined running through its
- 39:15endless rooms, swimming until dusk, and playing in the gardens
- 39:20that seemed to stretch forever. Stacy, ever the skeptic, wasn't
- 39:25so easily charmed. She looked up at the upper
- 39:29windows, at the way that the mist pooled along the roof line.
- 39:34The house loomed too heavily, she thought, as though the
- 39:37mountain itself pressed down upon it.
- 39:40Something about it unsettled her and Candace.
- 39:46Candace's unease was immediate. As the front door was opened and
- 39:51the family stepped inside, a heaviness settled on her chest.
- 39:57The air felt different, told her, though outside the heat was
- 40:02oppressive. She trailed her fingers along
- 40:06the wall as she moved through the entryway, and that was when
- 40:10it struck. An unseen fist, sudden and
- 40:16violent, slammed into her back. She stumbled forward, catching
- 40:21herself against a column, her breath ragged.
- 40:25Dennis turned around, alarmed. Stacy froze.
- 40:30Marissa giggled nervously, thinking that maybe her mom had
- 40:34tripped. But Candace knew better.
- 40:38She hadn't tripped. Something had chuffed her.
- 40:43She turned, eyes wide, but no one stood behind her.
- 40:48The cavernous foyer was empty. Her skin prickled, She forced a
- 40:55smile for her two daughters, not wanting to frighten them.
- 40:59The company representative talked about all of the
- 41:02amenities of the property, about its prestige and how lucky the
- 41:06bishops were to have it. The Candace's mind was
- 41:10elsewhere. It kept replaying that moment
- 41:14over and over again. The blow, the cold, the feeling
- 41:21of being watched the instant she crossed the threshold for two
- 41:27weeks, she begged Dennis to reconsider.
- 41:30They toured other homes, and those homes were smaller, more
- 41:34humble, but were tucked in crowded neighborhoods.
- 41:39Nothing seemed to compare to the mansion.
- 41:42Nothing impressed Dennis the way the estate did.
- 41:46He saw in his success stability and a future for his family
- 41:51abroad. Candace, however, only saw
- 41:55shadows. In the end, her protests were
- 42:00drowned out by reason and responsibility.
- 42:03With Dennis's career on the line, she relented.
- 42:08It would move into the mansion, she told herself.
- 42:12She would find a way to make it work.
- 42:15Yet even as boxes were carried in, even as Marissa danced
- 42:19through the hallways, Candace felt the mansion looming around
- 42:24her. The bishops believed they were
- 42:26settling into a home, but in truth, they had crossed into a
- 42:32domain that did not belong to them.
- 42:36The first weeks in the mansion were filled with contradictions,
- 42:40opulence and unease, beauty and menace.
- 42:46To Marissa, the place was enchanted.
- 42:50She wandered its halls with awe, exploring room after room as
- 42:55though she had stumbled into a fairy tale palace.
- 42:59She swam in the pool until her fingertips wrinkled, delighted
- 43:05to finally have space to breathe and play.
- 43:09But to Candace, every corner whispered discomfort.
- 43:14The jungle pressed close to the estate, Humidity clung to every
- 43:19surface, vines crawled along the outer walls, and each night the
- 43:26air rang with the buzz of cicadas and the calls of unseen
- 43:32creatures. The house seemed less a
- 43:36sanctuary than a fortress standing against a wilderness
- 43:41that wanted to. Creep back in.
- 43:44It was during one of those early evenings while the family
- 43:47unpacked that the jungle showed its teeth.
- 43:52Stacy's scream rang down the staircase.
- 43:56Dennis and Candace rushed upward, only to freeze at the
- 43:59sight of a giant spider. Its body thick and black, it
- 44:07clung to the wall near Stacy's door.
- 44:10Its long legs twitched as it crept slowly and deliberately.
- 44:16Marissa shrieked and left onto a chair.
- 44:20Dennis cursed under his breath, and Candace's skin crawled as
- 44:25her chest tightened. Their driver, HN, hurried in,
- 44:31wielding a shovel. With one brutal strike, he
- 44:36smashed the creature and its body crumpled to the floor.
- 44:41He stood over the remains, his expression grim.
- 44:46These spiders, he said softly. They go in pairs.
- 44:51So if you kill. One the other is always nearby.
- 44:56Candace felt a chill race down her spine.
- 45:00She found herself glancing toward the shadowed corners of
- 45:03the hallway, half expecting to see another set of legs
- 45:07scuttling towards them. That night, she lay awake
- 45:12imagining the mate spider creeping silently into a
- 45:16bedroom. The pests were not the mansion's
- 45:20only gift. The rains came heavy as they did
- 45:24in Taiwan's monsoon season. Water streamed down the
- 45:29mountainside and into the house itself.
- 45:33The walls began to drip, then the bedrooms.
- 45:37Streaks of moisture traced downward, like tears soaking
- 45:41carpets. Candace wrapped towels around
- 45:44the bases of the doors to hold the water back, but the mansion
- 45:49seemed determined to drown itself.
- 45:52Then came the electricity. At first it was little shocks,
- 45:58light switches that snapped with static when touched, and it grew
- 46:02worse. A flick of a switch sent painful
- 46:05jolts through fingertips, strong enough to leave Candace afraid
- 46:10of the lights themselves. She kept lamps unplugged and
- 46:14would sit with her daughters in the dark.
- 46:17Yet despite this, the power bills rose inexplicably far
- 46:23beyond what they could explain with normal use.
- 46:27Dennis grew frustrated, convinced the family was
- 46:31careless with the electricity. Candace argued back furiously.
- 46:38The house was draining them in ways that he couldn't or
- 46:43wouldn't see. And still, stranger things crept
- 46:48in. Late at night, Stacy swore she
- 46:53heard footsteps in her room, soft and deliberate, as though
- 46:58someone circled her bed in the dark.
- 47:02She pulled her covers tighter, her heart pounding, too afraid
- 47:07to cry out. And as too felt it, the faint
- 47:12whisper of her name in an empty hall, the flicker of a light at
- 47:18the edge of her vision, She told herself it was exhaustion,
- 47:23stress, the strangeness of life abroad.
- 47:28But deep down, she knew she was being watched.
- 47:33The house, it seemed, had opened its eyes.
- 47:38Night fell differently in the mansion.
- 47:41The jungle pressed against the walls, the screaming of cicadas
- 47:46giving way to stillness that made every Creek echo louder
- 47:50than it should. It was in this.
- 47:53Silence. That the first true whispers
- 47:56began. Marissa noticed less, at least
- 48:01at first. She still tried to find wonder
- 48:04in the house, though even she began to ask strange questions.
- 48:11One evening she peered out a window toward the dark yard and
- 48:16asked her sister. Is a Chen here referring to
- 48:21their driver? But the yard was empty.
- 48:26There was no footsteps in the gravel, no sign of anyone.
- 48:31Stacy shivered at the question. The mansion was vast, but it
- 48:37never truly felt empty. It was as though the family had
- 48:41become guests in their own home, moving through rooms that belong
- 48:46to someone or something else. Candace's instincts screamed
- 48:52that something was wrong. She began to listen more
- 48:56carefully at night, to pause when the air shifted as though
- 49:01someone unseen had passed by. She didn't tell Dennis.
- 49:06He was already frustrated with the leaking roof, the electrical
- 49:10shocks, and the constant bills. To him, these were solvable
- 49:16problems. To her, they were symptoms of
- 49:21something. Far deeper.
- 49:23Something alive in the walls, but for the sake of her
- 49:28daughters, she kept her fear tucked away.
- 49:32She smiled when she needed to, laughed when Marissa showed
- 49:37excitement. Yet each time she closed her
- 49:40eyes at night, she felt it. The weight of unseen eyes
- 49:46staring at her from the darkness, and in silence.
- 49:52The house grew bolder. For weeks, Stacy had grown
- 49:56accustomed to hiding her fear. She heard footsteps that had no
- 50:01source, whispers that carried her name through the dark, but
- 50:06she kept it all inside. She told herself that it was
- 50:10stress or imagination, and if she spoke, she feared she'd
- 50:16sound crazy. Her solace was Thomas, 16.
- 50:22Like her, it was a local boy with an easy smile.
- 50:27He offered an escape from the mansion's suffocating
- 50:29atmosphere. Whenever she could, she spent
- 50:33the evenings at his home laughing, listening to music and
- 50:39forgetting the dread that seemed to hang like smoke over her
- 50:42family's new life. It was on one such evening,
- 50:46after Thomas dropped her off at the gate at the house revealed
- 50:51itself. The night was humid, the jungle
- 50:56thick with the sounds of frogs. Thomas waited at the end of the
- 51:01driveway as Stacy slipped inside.
- 51:05He glanced back at the looming structure, it's dark windows
- 51:09glinting faintly under the pale moon.
- 51:13And then he froze. At the top floor, a light
- 51:18flickered to life. Behind the glass, a woman's
- 51:21silhouette stood, her hair long, her figure motionless.
- 51:28She looked out into the night. To Thomas, she looked exactly
- 51:33like Candace. Bishop, alarmed, jolted through
- 51:37him. Something about her stillness,
- 51:41the way she stood in the shadow, that was wrong.
- 51:46He started the car, then hesitated.
- 51:50A cold dread whispered through him.
- 51:53What if she's in trouble after rushing home?
- 51:57He quickly grabbed. His family's phone and called
- 52:00Stacy. Stacy answered, surprised.
- 52:04Stacy. He said quickly with his voice
- 52:06shaking. Go check on your mom, please,
- 52:09right now, just please. I I saw her upstairs at the
- 52:13window and she didn't look right, he said.
- 52:17Stacy's stomach dropped. With her heart pounding, she
- 52:21raced through the mansion's halls, calling out for her
- 52:25mother. Marissa, alarmed followed,
- 52:29became frightened as well. Their voices echoed off.
- 52:32Marble and tile became increasingly desperate and
- 52:37urgent. Room after room lay empty, no
- 52:41movement, no sign of her. The house seemed to swallow
- 52:47their cries, as though mocking their search.
- 52:51Finally, a door opened and Candace stepped out of the
- 52:55master bedroom, startled by the commotion.
- 52:58She looked perfectly fine. Stacy stopped dead, her breath
- 53:03catching. Thomas's sighting replayed in
- 53:06her head, her mother's figure standing up stairs in the
- 53:10window, watching. When she had been here all
- 53:14along, the realization washed over her like ice water.
- 53:20It hadn't been her mother. It had been something else.
- 53:24That night, the fragile silence between mother and daughter
- 53:28cracked, trembling. Stacy confessed.
- 53:33The footsteps, the voices, the nights she felt something
- 53:38circling her in the dark. Candace's eyes widened, tears
- 53:43forming as she admitted the same, that she too had heard
- 53:49whispers, seen flickers of light, and felt the eyes of
- 53:54something unseen. They sat together in the heavy
- 53:57stillness, clinging to one another, no longer able to deny
- 54:02it. The house was haunted.
- 54:06The night after Thomas's siding, silence weighed heavy on the
- 54:10House. Candace could feel it in her
- 54:12bones. The walls were watching them.
- 54:16The air was listening. The admission she and Stacy had
- 54:20shared only sharpened the tension.
- 54:24They were no longer keeping secrets.
- 54:27Now they knew they weren't alone.
- 54:30But knowing did not bring peace. It brought fear.
- 54:35Stacy drifted uneasily into sleep, her mind tangled with
- 54:39dread. In her dream, the mansion's
- 54:43corridor stretched endlessly, their walls slick with
- 54:47rainwater. She wandered, crying out for her
- 54:51mother. In the air smelled of smoke.
- 54:55Then she saw her. Candace was standing in the
- 54:59kitchen, her face pale and hollow.
- 55:03In her hands, a butcher's knife gleamed.
- 55:07Her eyes flicked upward, not her usual gentle gaze, but something
- 55:13feral, driven mad by terror. Without warning, Candace raised
- 55:19the blade, and Stacy's heart froze.
- 55:24She tried to scream, but no sound left her mouth.
- 55:29The nightmare shifted in jerks and flashes.
- 55:32Her mother was stalking her through the halls, knife in
- 55:35hand. Her father was crumpled in a
- 55:38corner. ERISA screamed as Candace's
- 55:41shadow loomed. Stacy then woke with a jolt, her
- 55:46body slick with sweat. The image of her mother holding
- 55:49the knife clung in her mind like a stain.
- 55:53She sat up, trembling, realizing that the dream had not been
- 55:57random. It had been a warning, a
- 56:00premonition of what the house could drive them to.
- 56:04While Stacy was tormented by dreams, Candace waged her own
- 56:09battle against the dark. With Dennis away on a business
- 56:14trip, the weight of protection fell solely on her.
- 56:19Every night she gathered her daughters into the master
- 56:22bedroom. They slept together in one bed,
- 56:26the girls pressed close while Candace kept her eyes open,
- 56:31listening to the house. She had placed a butcher's knife
- 56:36and a baseball bat under the mattress.
- 56:40If the spirits came, if anything tried to touch her children, she
- 56:45would fight. The hours crawled.
- 56:49Shadows stretched and moved across the walls, twisting with
- 56:54each flicker of the storm outside.
- 56:58Sometimes she swore she heard someone standing just outside
- 57:02the door. Other times, Stacy would bolt
- 57:06upright, certain that she had heard the handle rattle.
- 57:11Candace would grip the knife or pulse hammering, ready to face
- 57:16whatever endured. But nothing came, at least not
- 57:22yet. Returning from work, Dennis
- 57:26found his wife strung thin, his daughter's pale and restless,
- 57:32their eyes rimmed with sleepiness.
- 57:35He listened, but struggled to reconcile their terror with his
- 57:38own rationality. What do I tell my boss?
- 57:43He snapped. That we have to leave because
- 57:46the house is haunted? Candace pleaded for him to
- 57:50understand. Stacy begged him to believe.
- 57:54Even Marissa, usually innocent and carefree, grew quiet and
- 57:59uneasy. The mansion had become a
- 58:02battleground, not just between the bishops and whatever haunted
- 58:06them, but between their instincts and Dennis's
- 58:10disbelief. And in that rift, the house
- 58:14thrived. It seemed to feed on fear and on
- 58:18doubt, on the slow erosion, their strength.
- 58:23For Stacy, the nightmare would not leave her.
- 58:27Each time her mother reached for the knife at night, keeping
- 58:30watch with trembling hands, Stacy saw again the image of
- 58:35blood and madness. The house wasn't only haunting
- 58:39them, it was turning them against themselves.
- 58:44The Bishop family had come to Taiwan full of hope, but now the
- 58:49mansion was unraveling them thread by thread.
- 58:54The Bishop home had become a pressure cooker of fear.
- 58:57Every shadow seemed heavier, every silence more oppressive.
- 59:03Candace did her best to keep her daughter's clothes, to shield
- 59:08them from what she could no longer deny.
- 59:12But the house was patient. It was waiting for the moment
- 59:16when one of them was most vulnerable.
- 59:19And that moment came for Marissa.
- 59:23It was evening. Rain tapped against the wide
- 59:27windows in the jungle outside, buzzed faintly in the humid
- 59:32dark. Stacy was away with Thomas, and
- 59:36Candace had agreed to accompany Dennis to visit a neighbor's
- 59:40house down the road. It would be just for a little
- 59:44while. Marissa nodded when her mother
- 59:46asked if she'd be all right, but as the front door closed behind
- 59:51them, the mansion seemed to exhale.
- 59:55The vast hall stretched around her, too quiet and too still.
- 1:00:02She turned on the television to chase away the silence, but the
- 1:00:07sound only made the emptiness more noticeable.
- 1:00:11Shadows gathered in the corners of the room, deepening with each
- 1:00:16passing minute. Then came a sound, the door
- 1:00:22creaking open somewhere upstairs.
- 1:00:26Marissa's heart stuttered. She glanced towards the
- 1:00:30staircase, it's banister vanishing Into Darkness.
- 1:00:35She called out to her parents, asking if they had forgotten
- 1:00:38something, her voice trembling, but there was no answer, only
- 1:00:45the hollow echo of her own words.
- 1:00:49Then footsteps came, measured and heavy, descending the
- 1:00:55stairs. The young girl backed away,
- 1:00:58clutching the edge of the sofa, calling out again to see if it
- 1:01:02was her parents. The living room door swung open
- 1:01:06with a sudden force. A cold rush of air swept in,
- 1:01:12carrying with it the unmistakable presence of someone
- 1:01:17or something unseen. And then it was upon her.
- 1:01:23Invisible hands shoved her backwards.
- 1:01:27She gasped, stumbling to the floor, but it didn't stop there.
- 1:01:33Something pressed against her chest, heavier, stronger, until
- 1:01:38she couldn't breathe. Her body convulsed, as if this
- 1:01:44something was trying to force its way into her.
- 1:01:49Terror swallowed her. She felt her limbs go weak, her
- 1:01:54mind pulled into a darkness was not her own.
- 1:01:58Whispers clawed up the edges of her thoughts, hungry, desperate,
- 1:02:05and human. For a heartbeat, she wasn't
- 1:02:09herself. She was them.
- 1:02:12And then, silence. Arissa collapsed onto the floor,
- 1:02:17trembling, covered in sweat, and the house loomed above her,
- 1:02:23silent once more, as though satisfied.
- 1:02:28When Candace and Dennis returned, they found their
- 1:02:31daughter sprawled on the floor. Candace dropped to her knees,
- 1:02:35scooping Marissa into her arms, asking baby, what happened,
- 1:02:39what's wrong? Marissa's eyes darted around,
- 1:02:43wild and glassy. Her voice was hoarse.
- 1:02:47Someone came in and pushed me. She broke into sobs, clinging to
- 1:02:53her mother. Dennis's face drained of color.
- 1:02:58He had doubted, rationalized, resisted in every suggestion
- 1:03:03that something unnatural plagued their home.
- 1:03:07But this was. Different.
- 1:03:09His daughter's trembling, the sheer panic in her voice.
- 1:03:13He could not be dismissed. That night, the family huddled
- 1:03:18together in terror, with every light in the house blazing.
- 1:03:23Candace sat upright with a knife in her lap, too afraid to close
- 1:03:27her eyes. Marissa lay against her,
- 1:03:31shivering, whispering again and again.
- 1:03:35That's something had been inside.
- 1:03:37Her. By morning, she seemed eerily
- 1:03:41calm. She insisted that she felt fine
- 1:03:45brushing off her mother's word questions, she said.
- 1:03:49I I don't want to worry or think about it anymore.
- 1:03:52Seeming detached, but Candace knew better.
- 1:03:57Something had touched her daughter, and this was something
- 1:04:01that could not be undone. The attack on Marissa left no
- 1:04:05more room for denial for Dennis. Once the firm skeptic, he could
- 1:04:10not shake the image of his daughter trembling on the floor,
- 1:04:14insisting that something had entered her, a foreign entity,
- 1:04:21something not of this. World.
- 1:04:23Candace's fear had now become his own.
- 1:04:26The house was not simply strange, it was dangerous.
- 1:04:31Candace reached out to a friend, Bob Patton, an American
- 1:04:35journalist in Taipei with connections deep into Taiwan's
- 1:04:39spiritual circles, if anyone could point them to help.
- 1:04:44It. Was Bob.
- 1:04:46And he did. He told Candace of a respected
- 1:04:49Taoist priest, a man experienced in dealing with restless
- 1:04:54spirits, a man he himself had interviewed years before.
- 1:05:00When the priest arrived at the Bishop home, he carried himself
- 1:05:04with quiet authority. He was elderly, robed simply,
- 1:05:10with eyes that seem to Pierce through stone.
- 1:05:14From the moment he crossed the threshold, his demeanor
- 1:05:18darkened. He moved slowly through each
- 1:05:21room, pausing as if listening to something that the others could
- 1:05:26not hear. Finally, he gathered the family,
- 1:05:32and his words came measured, deliberate.
- 1:05:36This house, he said through Bob's translation, has very
- 1:05:41dangerous Feng shui. No Chinese architect would
- 1:05:45design it this way unless he wished to curse the inhabitants.
- 1:05:50Dennis frowned, still unused to the concept.
- 1:05:53He asked. What do you mean?
- 1:05:56The priest gestured towards the open windows, the dripping
- 1:06:00walls, the unnatural damp that seemed to ooze from every
- 1:06:05corner. The mountains, water and wind
- 1:06:08bring energy, but this house does not flow with it.
- 1:06:13It traps it, it feeds yen the negative energy, it strengthens
- 1:06:19the dead. Candace shuddered, remembering
- 1:06:23the priest's choice words. It's been designed to kill.
- 1:06:28Then came the most chilling revelation.
- 1:06:31The priest closed his eyes, breathing deeply.
- 1:06:35When he spoke again, his voice was heavier.
- 1:06:39There are two spirits here, and they're hungry.
- 1:06:44A man and a woman. Candace gasped.
- 1:06:48Her mind leapt to the apparition Thomas had seen in the upstairs
- 1:06:52window. She turned to their driver, who
- 1:06:56had lived in the valley his entire life.
- 1:06:59Do you know what was here before this?
- 1:07:01House was built. She asked.
- 1:07:04HN hesitated. His face tightened as though
- 1:07:09even Speaking of it was dangerous.
- 1:07:12At last, he said quietly, Pig farm.
- 1:07:17It burned, and the farmer and his wife were trapped.
- 1:07:22They died in the fire. The words clung heavy in the
- 1:07:26air. Candace's heart sank.
- 1:07:31The flickering lights, the voices calling names, the woman
- 1:07:36at the window, all of it pointed to those lost souls.
- 1:07:41They had not moved on. They had remained hungry, angry,
- 1:07:47seemingly tethered to the land where they had perished.
- 1:07:52The priest's face was grim. Hungry ghosts, he said.
- 1:07:58They do not have what they need in the afterlife, food, money or
- 1:08:03offerings, so they take energy from the living.
- 1:08:08They feed off of fear, particularly from your daughter.
- 1:08:14Nervous face was pale with tears burning in her eyes.
- 1:08:19The family drew closer together with fear thick between all of
- 1:08:24them. The priest rose.
- 1:08:27He said I'll help you, but you must understand what is bound
- 1:08:33here is strong. I will need some time to
- 1:08:36prepare, and even if I succeed, it will not last.
- 1:08:41And if you remain, they will return.
- 1:08:45This warning was clear. The house was not a home, was a
- 1:08:49trap built on ashes feeding the dead.
- 1:08:55For the bishops, the nightmare had finally been given a name.
- 1:09:00The night of the ritual arrived, heavy with anticipation.
- 1:09:04The bishops had spent the day in uneasy silence, waiting.
- 1:09:09Marissa had been sent to stay with neighbors.
- 1:09:12The priest would not risk her presence.
- 1:09:15The hungry ghosts had already singled her out once.
- 1:09:19If they were provoked again, she might not survive.
- 1:09:24Inside the mansion, the air felt charged, as though the house
- 1:09:28itself knew what was coming. The Taoist priest returned to
- 1:09:33dusk robed, simply carrying a bundle of tools, incense sticks,
- 1:09:41Joss paper folded into stacks of money, a basket of fruit.
- 1:09:46He instructed Dennis to open every door and window in the
- 1:09:50house. The spirits must have a way out,
- 1:09:54he said. As the last window was
- 1:09:57unlatched, a strange wind moved through the house, though the
- 1:10:02air outside was still. Curtains billowed, and Candace
- 1:10:07clutched Stacy's hand. The priest lit incense, smoke
- 1:10:13curling upward into thin, wide trails.
- 1:10:17He began to chant, his voice low and rhythmic, filling the halls
- 1:10:23with words the family could not understand.
- 1:10:27Yet they felt their meaning deep in their bones.
- 1:10:31Almost immediately, the house seemed to react.
- 1:10:36A pressure settled on the family, heavy and suffocating,
- 1:10:42Candace later recalled. It was a.
- 1:10:45Force that shook our clothes and our hair.
- 1:10:48Everything was moving and it became hard to breathe.
- 1:10:53Lights flickered violently upstairs, a door slammed shut
- 1:10:58with a deafening crack. The air was alive with unseen
- 1:11:02motion, as though invisible figures were rushing past and
- 1:11:07raged by the intrusion. Despite this, the priest did not
- 1:11:11falter. He raised his voice, commanding,
- 1:11:16demanding, calling upon heavenly forces to guide the spirits to
- 1:11:22peace. Then he turned to Stacy and his
- 1:11:27hands was the basket of offerings, Oranges, rice,
- 1:11:32bundles of paper money, all burning slowly with incense
- 1:11:37smoke. You, he said firmly.
- 1:11:41You must take this to the back, to the graves.
- 1:11:47Terror gripped her. Her legs trembled.
- 1:11:51She didn't want to go. The priest's eyes locked on
- 1:11:55hers, and he told her, You must be brave.
- 1:12:02They will follow you, but they must be fed.
- 1:12:07Her mother's hand squeezed hers. Her father's nod was solemn.
- 1:12:13With a SOB, Stacy lifted the basket.
- 1:12:17The smoke curled into her face, stinging her eyes.
- 1:12:23She then stepped into the night. The backyard was darker than she
- 1:12:27had ever seen it. The trees loomed beyond the
- 1:12:31walls and every step. Felt watched.
- 1:12:36She carried the basket toward the patch of earth the priest
- 1:12:40had identified, the place where the farmer and his wife had
- 1:12:45died. Her arms ached.
- 1:12:49Her skin prickled as though someone walked just behind her.
- 1:12:54She fought the urge to run. At the edge of the yard, she set
- 1:13:00the basket down and whispered through her tears.
- 1:13:04Take this, please, and leave us alone.
- 1:13:10For a moment the air stilled, and then, as if an answer, the
- 1:13:16night swallowed the offering. Inside.
- 1:13:20The priest moved room to room, sprinkling holy water, chanting
- 1:13:25at each corner, and each time he entered the lights would die
- 1:13:32slowly, flickering back on only as he finished his incantations.
- 1:13:38Candace and Dennis followed, their hearts pounding.
- 1:13:42They could feel it, the shift, the weakening of the presence
- 1:13:47that had plagued them. The chanting rose to a
- 1:13:51crescendo, smoke thick in the halls as a final prayer echoed
- 1:13:58through the house, and then silence.
- 1:14:03The wind ceased, the walls no longer seem to hum, and for the
- 1:14:09first time in months since they had arrived, the house felt
- 1:14:15still. Before leaving, the priest
- 1:14:19produced a Talisman, a mirror etched with the symbols of the I
- 1:14:24Ching. He fixed it above the door,
- 1:14:28firmly padding it into place. This will keep harmony here.
- 1:14:34He said, but only for a short time.
- 1:14:38His eyes were grave. The hungry ghosts are appeased,
- 1:14:43but only for two, maybe 3 months, and after that they will
- 1:14:48return. You must leave this house or a
- 1:14:53great tragedy will come. The warning settled deep into
- 1:14:57their hearts. The house was calm now.
- 1:15:01Danger, however, was far from gone.
- 1:15:06The house stood unnaturally quiet in the aftermath of the
- 1:15:09ritual. For the first time in months,
- 1:15:12the oppressive weight had lifted.
- 1:15:15The walls no longer groaned, the air the longer pressed down on
- 1:15:20their lungs. Candace wept with relief.
- 1:15:24Dennis, exhausted, finally allowed himself to believe that
- 1:15:30what had tormented his family was real.
- 1:15:34He had fought against his beliefs, against fear, clinging
- 1:15:38to reason and responsibility. But now there was no argument
- 1:15:43left. He had seen too much.
- 1:15:47He knew the priest was right. In the days that followed, the
- 1:15:52mansion remained eerily still. Nights passed without footsteps,
- 1:15:58without whispers. Stacy slept without hearing her
- 1:16:02name being called. Candace no longer felt eyes
- 1:16:06burning into her back, and even Marissa, who'd returned from the
- 1:16:11neighbors, seemed lighter, free of the strange detachment that
- 1:16:16had followed her from the attack.
- 1:16:19The Bog Way mirror gleamed above the front door, a silent
- 1:16:23Sentinel. The family lived in its shadow.
- 1:16:28Aware that the peace was only borrowed time, Candace began to
- 1:16:33plan. She marked the months carefully,
- 1:16:37watching the calendar as though it were a countdown to doom.
- 1:16:42Stacy would finish her schooling by June, and by then they would
- 1:16:46be gone. Dennis made quiet inquiries
- 1:16:49about transfers, careful not to draw suspicion from his
- 1:16:53superiors. Every decision was guided by the
- 1:16:57priest's warning before the hungry ghosts would return.
- 1:17:01It was not an easy choice. Dennis's career had brought them
- 1:17:06here, had promised them prosperity, But what was a
- 1:17:11promotion compared to the safety of his family?
- 1:17:15Stacy finished her final term of school that June, and her relief
- 1:17:19mirrored her mother's. Dennis arranged their departure
- 1:17:23with quiet urgency. When the time came, the family
- 1:17:28packed their belongings into crates, and the rooms were
- 1:17:32emptied one by one. On their last morning in the
- 1:17:37house, the air was unnervingly still.
- 1:17:41The jungle outside shimmered in the heat, and for once, no storm
- 1:17:46clouds gathered on the horizon. Candace stood at the front door,
- 1:17:52staring at the Bog Way mirror fixed above it.
- 1:17:55The Talisman glinted faintly in the light.
- 1:17:59For months it had kept the house calm, but she knew its power
- 1:18:04would soon wane. As she turned to leave, she
- 1:18:08glanced up at the 2nd floor window, the same place Thomas
- 1:18:13had once seen a figure standing, and for the briefest moment, she
- 1:18:18thought she saw something. The outline of a woman, her face
- 1:18:23hidden in the shadows. But a blink later, the window
- 1:18:29was empty. Candace shivered.
- 1:18:33She would not look back again. The bishops left Taiwan behind,
- 1:18:39returning to the United States with more than just suitcases.
- 1:18:44They carried with them the memory of the mansion, the
- 1:18:47unseen blows, the whispers from the darkness in the night.
- 1:18:53Marissa collapsed on the floor, seemingly invaded by something
- 1:18:59malicious. In interviews years later,
- 1:19:03Candace admitted that the experience had shattered the
- 1:19:07boundaries of her world. I had learned that there are
- 1:19:10powers that we don't understand, she said.
- 1:19:14Energies, spirits, things that can touch our lives in ways that
- 1:19:20you can't imagine unless it happens to you.
- 1:19:25The family never returned to that valley.
- 1:19:28They never sought the mansion again.
- 1:19:31Whether the house still stands, whether others live there
- 1:19:36unaware, no one can say. But in Taiwan or the Hungry
- 1:19:43Ghost Festival still burns bright each summer, the belief
- 1:19:47endures. The dead remain among us, if not
- 1:19:52given rest. And in the shadow of the Yang
- 1:19:56Ming Mountain, where fire once consumed a farmer and his wife,
- 1:20:02where a foreign family came seeking a home and only found
- 1:20:06terror, the hungry ghosts still linger, waiting for the living
- 1:20:14to feed them. So it took some digging but I
- 1:20:20was able to figure out what the Bishops are up to these days.
- 1:20:25I haven't seen or come across any updates on them from other
- 1:20:28creators, so I decided to try and find out for myself.
- 1:20:33And to my surprise I did indeed discover the details.
- 1:20:38The Bishops case was made famous by the TV show A Haunting, which
- 1:20:42is one of my all time favourites.
- 1:20:44Their episode was amply titled Hungry Ghosts.
- 1:20:48My version is essentially a retelling of their harrowing
- 1:20:51case with additional details that I could find.
- 1:20:55With that being said, what are the Bishops up to these days?
- 1:20:59Well, I'm going to tell you, but I will omit some details as to
- 1:21:03respect their privacy. It seems like Dennis and Candace
- 1:21:08are no longer married. I'm not sure what happened to
- 1:21:12Candace, but I hope wherever she is that she's doing well.
- 1:21:17Dennis has since remarried and is a COO of a major global
- 1:21:22company. Albeit, I'm not sure if it's the
- 1:21:24same company that he worked for during the family's experiences,
- 1:21:28but he continues to work abroad in Asia and other.
- 1:21:32Parts of the world. And him and his wife seem to
- 1:21:35have adopted a son. Everyone, from what I can tell,
- 1:21:38has moved on and returned to a sense of normalcy and seems to
- 1:21:43be happy and prosperous. I truly hope that is the case.
- 1:21:47And I don't know about you, but I love a happy ending with me
- 1:21:51providing those details. Again, please respect the
- 1:21:55Bishop's privacy and that goes for anyone whose cases I've
- 1:21:58covered here. Be kind and be respectful and
- 1:22:03please don't bother anybody. Thank you guys so much for
- 1:22:07watching this new episode. I took a bit of a different
- 1:22:10writing approach with this one, but I hope that you still liked
- 1:22:14it. And if you did, please leave the
- 1:22:17episode a like. Let me know your thoughts down
- 1:22:20below in the comments and subscribe if you're new here.

- 1:23:18This has been Cody here at Mystery Archives.
- 1:23:21Remember to stay safe out there from hungry ghosts and other
- 1:23:25spectres that may haunt the night, and take care.
- 1:23:30I'll see you next time. Imaginary friends are generally
- 1:23:37considered to be a normal part of childhood development for
- 1:23:41some. But what would you do if your
- 1:23:44child's imaginary friend turned out to be much more than just
- 1:23:49imagination? When a woman notices that her
- 1:23:52son is speaking with a friend who she thinks doesn't exist,
- 1:23:57she dismisses it at first. However, this so-called friend
- 1:24:03would turn out to be anything but as an abhorrent force turns
- 1:24:08their lives upside down while they escape with their souls
- 1:24:12intact. Or will the entity consume them?
- 1:24:18I will warn you, as with many cases I've covered on this
- 1:24:22channel, to not watch this alone or in the dark unless you like a
- 1:24:27challenge, because this case is certainly no exception.
- 1:24:34Kentucky, a bastion of American beauty, wild and free on the
- 1:24:40surface, also harbors darkness. Home to the Mammoth Cave system,
- 1:24:47known to be the longest in the world, one can truly get lost
- 1:24:52inside its winding caverns and crevices.
- 1:24:57Kentucky contains many tales of legends, folklore, and
- 1:25:02hauntings. With caves older than bone
- 1:25:05beneath it and numerous battles fought on its surface, among
- 1:25:10other happenings, it's no surprise that this southern
- 1:25:14state holds such secrets. Our story begins in Western
- 1:25:20Kentucky with the Foster family, Jan, Dale, their five year old
- 1:25:26son Cody, and 16 year old daughter Pamela.
- 1:25:31Jan is a carrier for the US Postal Service and Dale is a
- 1:25:35contractor. Up until this point, the Fosters
- 1:25:39have been a relatively normal American family, but this would
- 1:25:43soon change. A nanny often stays with their
- 1:25:47son while the two parents work during the day, intends to leave
- 1:25:52when one of the parents gets home from work for the day.
- 1:25:56One evening, the nanny asks for a word with Jan, with the two
- 1:26:01stepping off into the hallway for a more private word
- 1:26:05together. The nanny tells her that Cody
- 1:26:09has been using some very bad language and that she's
- 1:26:12concerned about his behavior. Jan is shocked to hear this
- 1:26:17because they've always considered themselves a fairly
- 1:26:19strict family on what can and can't be said in their house, so
- 1:26:24she's not sure where the boy would have heard such language.
- 1:26:28Alongside the curse words, Cody has been incredibly defiant,
- 1:26:33extremely rude, and angry towards the nanny.
- 1:26:38He has also been speaking with someone who isn't there.
- 1:26:43After assuring the nanny that Cody was not exposed to this
- 1:26:46kind of behavior in their home, Jan then said she would correct
- 1:26:50his behavior and apologized for these very unexpected
- 1:26:54happenings. Several hours later, as she
- 1:26:58tucks her son into bed for the night, she asked him to tell her
- 1:27:02about his new friend. Cody tells his mother that his
- 1:27:06friend's name is Man, thinking this was strange and asking him
- 1:27:12why doesn't his friend have a real name like John or George.
- 1:27:17She is quickly corrected by her son that it is simply Man.
- 1:27:23Finding this bizarre, but believing this to be somewhat
- 1:27:27normal, that her son is simply using his active imagination to
- 1:27:32create a friend who didn't really exist, she thinks nothing
- 1:27:36of it. However, in later.
- 1:27:39Interviews. She would have this to say.
- 1:27:43I didn't realize it then, but this was a massive warning sign
- 1:27:48and it's one I shouldn't have ignored.
- 1:27:52Shortly after putting her son to bed and laying down herself, Jan
- 1:27:57is woken up by the sound of thumping from across the hall.
- 1:28:03Stepping out into the hallway to examine just what this could be,
- 1:28:07she then hears the laughter of her son.
- 1:28:11Believing he's just playing and very tired herself, she asks him
- 1:28:16to please stop through his door and to go back to bed.
- 1:28:21She then heads back to her own bedroom once again after the
- 1:28:25laughter ceases. Several hours later, in another
- 1:28:30bedroom down the hall, 16 year old Pamela's woken up out of a
- 1:28:34sound sleep herself, but by something very different.
- 1:28:39Feeling as if she was being watched, she begins to hear
- 1:28:43scratching originating from underneath her bed.
- 1:28:47Perplexed, she rolls out of bed to look underneath it, and
- 1:28:52quickly she comes face to face with nothing.
- 1:28:58The scratching then begins to move as if it's under the
- 1:29:01floorboards. It moves from underneath the
- 1:29:05bed, through the floor and then up into the wall closest to her
- 1:29:10bedroom door. The poor teen has never
- 1:29:13experienced anything like this before.
- 1:29:16As the sounds continue, she quickly, yet cautiously makes
- 1:29:21her way out of her bedroom and into her parents room.
- 1:29:26She would later describe the scratching sounds like someone
- 1:29:29taking their fingernails and with all of their strength,
- 1:29:33grating them against the various surfaces.
- 1:29:37As the sound moved, Jan is startled awake as she sees a
- 1:29:42blackened figure standing over her.
- 1:29:45It's Pamela telling her mother that she's.
- 1:29:48Scared. Jan then, thinking she must have
- 1:29:51had a nightmare, brings her into the bed to quell her fear.
- 1:29:57Although this night was strange to say the least, it's nothing
- 1:30:01compared to what's coming the following morning.
- 1:30:06As Jan wakes up and begins getting ready for the day, she
- 1:30:10steps into the shower and begins washing herself.
- 1:30:15Several minutes into her shower, however, she hears something
- 1:30:19fall over in the bathroom with the door closed, and after
- 1:30:24examining the room from the tub, she sees no one.
- 1:30:29She does, however, see a soap bottle that has fallen onto the
- 1:30:32floor from the side of the bathtub.
- 1:30:36Thinking this was weird due to its positioning, but overlooking
- 1:30:40it, she simply places the bottle back onto the ledge and
- 1:30:44continues with her shower. She then begins to hear
- 1:30:48footsteps walking all throughout the bathroom, rinsing the soap
- 1:30:52out of her hair and making sure she doesn't get any in her eyes.
- 1:30:57She then turns around and sees the outline of a man through the
- 1:31:02steamed up shower curtain. This man was tall, much taller
- 1:31:07than her husband, and she didn't hear the door open to indicate
- 1:31:12anyone else's presence. Panicking, she pulls the curtain
- 1:31:17aside, yet no one is there yet again.
- 1:31:22She does however see small Muddy child size shoe prints on the
- 1:31:28floor. Quickly finishing her shower and
- 1:31:32after drying off she finds and checks Cody's shoes but there
- 1:31:37are no signs of mud to be seen. This makes her uneasy because
- 1:31:43only his shoes would have even been close to how small the shoe
- 1:31:47prints were. Then heading to her son's room
- 1:31:52to see if he was awake or not, she finds him playing with his
- 1:31:56toy fire truck in the corner of the room.
- 1:31:59Yet he is speaking to a chair where no one is sitting.
- 1:32:05Telling his friend that he didn't want to do that, that he
- 1:32:09just wants to play with his toys.
- 1:32:12Cody is then interrupted by his mother, who asked him just who
- 1:32:16he's speaking with. Replying with man, the little
- 1:32:22boy then continues to play with his fire truck.
- 1:32:26Jandin tells Cody that he needs to tell his friend goodbye and
- 1:32:30that it's time to get ready for the day.
- 1:32:34This seems to turn a switch within the boy.
- 1:32:37Suddenly her five year old has gone from happy and playing with
- 1:32:42his toys to becoming irate at the drop of a dime, screaming at
- 1:32:49his mother that he didn't want to and that man said he didn't
- 1:32:54have to. Being countered by his mother,
- 1:32:58she tells him that he will get ready or there's going to be
- 1:33:01serious consequences. Scowling at her eventually he
- 1:33:07does as he's told, but the look behind his eyes is 1.
- 1:33:12His mother doesn't recognize, and it'll become one all too
- 1:33:17common in the near future. Over the next several weeks,
- 1:33:23Cody's behavior has shifted completely.
- 1:33:26He's gone from a fairly calm and loving child to one that is
- 1:33:31cold, angry, and sometimes violent.
- 1:33:36He doesn't want to follow commands or do things he once
- 1:33:40enjoyed doing. He only wants to spend time with
- 1:33:44his imaginary friend, someone he calls Man.
- 1:33:50One afternoon as his parents sit together watching their son
- 1:33:54play, they asked him to tell them about Man.
- 1:33:59Just who is he and how old is he?
- 1:34:03Cody would set down the toys that he had been playing with
- 1:34:06and tell them he's 6 and that he has brown hair and brown eyes
- 1:34:14and pale skin. Interested in what he had to
- 1:34:18say, the couple would then ask their son just where did man
- 1:34:23come from. He would respond with from
- 1:34:27behind the park where the lake is from deep underground.
- 1:34:34Obviously concerned and intrigued even further, Jan
- 1:34:39asked Cody if something happened to man.
- 1:34:42Cody, with tears streaming down his face, would reply that a
- 1:34:48stranger took him from his mommy and did terrible things to him.
- 1:34:54That he cried for his mommy but she never found him.
- 1:35:00With tears now falling from her eyes, Jan then asks her son, who
- 1:35:05would almost be the same age as man.
- 1:35:08Is man dead, Cody? His answer would cause a cold
- 1:35:14shiver to shake her entire body. He would answer with yes.
- 1:35:23Disturbed by her son's answer, Jan Foster believes that her son
- 1:35:28may have befriended the spirit of a dead child.
- 1:35:32Dan, however, is not fully convinced.
- 1:35:36He believes it could be simply his son going through some
- 1:35:39changes emotionally and that he was using his imagination to
- 1:35:44cope with this. I'll be at a strange back story
- 1:35:48to his imaginary friend. He thinks that it's just that,
- 1:35:52imaginary. With this revelation, Jane
- 1:35:57decides to take researching things into her own hands.
- 1:36:01She decides the following day to go to the local library and to
- 1:36:05sift through records to see if she could find anything that
- 1:36:09sounded similar to the back story of the boy that her son
- 1:36:14described to her. She avidly searches going back
- 1:36:19as far as the records do that were available about 50 years or
- 1:36:24so, although she believes her son believes the story he told.
- 1:36:29Her. She begins to doubt what this
- 1:36:32entity could have told her son because no evidence materializes
- 1:36:39of the dead boy's back story. Over the next several months,
- 1:36:44Cody withdrawals completely from interacting with the family.
- 1:36:49He didn't want to spend time with anyone, he stopped playing
- 1:36:53with his toys and his only outlet seems to be man.
- 1:37:00Day in and day out he just continues to have full blown
- 1:37:05conversations with this invisible person.
- 1:37:10Angered and feeling as if she was losing her son, Jan decides
- 1:37:15to try anything it takes to get him back.
- 1:37:21One evening she makes a phone call to an old friend of hers, a
- 1:37:26Native American medicine man, who she believes could perhaps
- 1:37:30offer insight on what to do about her family situation.
- 1:37:36Within a day he arrives, speaking with Jan and Dale in
- 1:37:40their living room. He begins to hear from Jan just
- 1:37:44what all has been taking place. Dale, although skeptical of both
- 1:37:49his son's situation and now the involvement of a medicine man,
- 1:37:53remains so, but wants to support his wife, thinking that this
- 1:37:58could perhaps make her feel better about what had been
- 1:38:01happening in his own words. I was concerned that something
- 1:38:06had really scared Jan, and I knew that she was upset.
- 1:38:11Although I didn't believe in this kind of stuff, I thought
- 1:38:15that maybe it could help her feel better.
- 1:38:18As Jan finishes explaining the situation as a whole to the
- 1:38:22medicine man, he comes to the conclusion that it's possible
- 1:38:27that Cody has invited the spirit into the house.
- 1:38:31He explains that the only way to get rid of the spirit is to
- 1:38:35revoke the invitation by praying and forcibly cleansing the home.
- 1:38:42That the owner of the house had to do this on their own to
- 1:38:46banish the spirit. He then instructs Jan to burn
- 1:38:50sage and sweetgrass and directed towards the four corners of the
- 1:38:56property. After this is done, each doorway
- 1:39:01of the home must be anointed with olive oil to finish the
- 1:39:05cleansing. He also warns that some spirits
- 1:39:10may not want to go so easily and that it's imperative that she
- 1:39:15focus and pray the entire time for the spirit to leave and most
- 1:39:21importantly, to pray for her son.
- 1:39:25The following morning, after everyone else had departed for
- 1:39:29the day, Jan begins the ritual. As the sage smoke smudges the
- 1:39:35air, Jan begins to worry but tries her best to remain strong
- 1:39:42in her own words. Was I worthy enough of God to
- 1:39:46hear my prayers? My strongest please to Him to
- 1:39:50help me through this, to help me cleanse this house and this
- 1:39:55property. I doubted myself for brief
- 1:39:58moments that I wouldn't be able to.
- 1:40:01It was the fear of knowing if it didn't work, what would happen.
- 1:40:05Then, within due time she finishes the cleansing.
- 1:40:11But will it be enough? Later that night, once everyone
- 1:40:16else had returned home, she is brought to tears.
- 1:40:21Cody seems to be back to his old self.
- 1:40:24He's spending time with his father, having a story read to
- 1:40:28him from a book in his room before bed.
- 1:40:33Over the next three months, all is calm and well.
- 1:40:37Cody seems to be more responsive, he's much happier,
- 1:40:42and most importantly, there is no mention of any kind of an
- 1:40:46imaginary friend. That was until one afternoon.
- 1:40:53In Jan's own words, Cody wasn't totally back, but we were
- 1:40:58certainly making great strides. All seemed to be well.
- 1:41:03And then, out of nowhere, three months after the ritual, he
- 1:41:07began speaking to man again. When I heard him, I could not
- 1:41:12move. I was in so much fear.
- 1:41:16He kept talking for a while and then all of a sudden he went
- 1:41:21quiet. When I went into his room, he
- 1:41:25was holding something in his hands.
- 1:41:28It was a photograph. I said where did you get this?
- 1:41:34I then reached down to grab it and he went berserk.
- 1:41:39Cody screamed and clawed at her. His screams and yells seemed to
- 1:41:45be layered, as if two voices were speaking through him
- 1:41:50simultaneously. As Jan examined the photo, it
- 1:41:55appeared to be an older Polaroid, possibly from the late
- 1:41:5950s or early 60s. There was an elderly woman,
- 1:42:05perhaps a grandmother, and next to her was a small boy.
- 1:42:11As her son relents she asked him just who was this a picture of
- 1:42:17and he responded with Man shocked at what she was both
- 1:42:23looking at as well as hearing. Jan then asked Cody where did
- 1:42:28you get this picture? He proceeds to tell her that Man
- 1:42:33gave it to him. This causes her to burst into
- 1:42:37tears. The ritual, which had seemed to
- 1:42:41work for a good portion of time, didn't seem to get rid of the
- 1:42:46entity. She now wonders what will happen
- 1:42:49now. What are the next steps that she
- 1:42:52can take for herself and her family?
- 1:42:57The following day, as Jan arrives back home from work, she
- 1:43:02walks into chaos. Cody is screaming and berating
- 1:43:07the nanny. He's thrown his food onto the
- 1:43:10floor. She immediately goes to
- 1:43:12reprimand her son and is surprised by what he does.
- 1:43:18With one hand, he shoves her, and he does so with so much
- 1:43:22force that she falls down into the wall behind her.
- 1:43:27Code even screams at her man said I didn't have to listen to
- 1:43:32any of you anymore. And then he runs out of the
- 1:43:36room. Stunned by both her son's
- 1:43:39strength and behavior, she gets back up off the ground now to
- 1:43:44see the nanny packing her things.
- 1:43:47She had decided that she couldn't deal with the child
- 1:43:50anymore. She suggests getting him some
- 1:43:53counseling. Now that Jan tries her absolute
- 1:43:56best to keep her employed, she leaves.
- 1:44:01Later that night, Jan tries to keep herself together as the
- 1:44:06family sits down to eat dinner. In her own words, I was trying
- 1:44:11to keep things together. I needed to be an employee, a
- 1:44:15mother, and a wife. I was also the one bearing the
- 1:44:19brunt of my son's abuse. But by now, there was no love
- 1:44:24coming from Cody. No hugs, kisses, or real
- 1:44:29interactions. Just pure hatred.
- 1:44:33He was a total stranger to me at this point and I didn't know how
- 1:44:37to handle this. She begins to believe that
- 1:44:41something far more sinister than a little boy is manipulating her
- 1:44:46son. She's unsure of exactly what it
- 1:44:49is, but she knows deep down that it's evil.
- 1:44:54After losing the nanny, Jan and Dale have to start taking Cody
- 1:44:59to a cousin's house to be watched during the day so the
- 1:45:02two could work to support the family.
- 1:45:06After dropping Cody off for the first time at the cousin's
- 1:45:09house, Jan then heads to work like normal.
- 1:45:13Several hours into her work day, as she loads packages onto a
- 1:45:17mail truck, she is told she has an urgent phone call.
- 1:45:22It's from her cousin, in her own words.
- 1:45:26When I picked up the phone, she was incoherent.
- 1:45:30She was crying and kept repeating that I had to come get
- 1:45:33Cody now that she could not watch him anymore.
- 1:45:38Rushing from work to her cousin's house, Jan has no idea
- 1:45:42what could have happened but is quickly about to find out.
- 1:45:47She arrives and runs up to the door and is greeted by her
- 1:45:51cousin holding Cody by the arm. She is then told what had
- 1:45:56happened when Cody and her daughter were playing in the
- 1:45:59living room while she cleaned in the kitchen, she listened to
- 1:46:03make sure that everything was OK.
- 1:46:06She began to hear another voice, a third voice on that was deeper
- 1:46:12like that of a grown man, concerned but still trying to
- 1:46:17decipher what was happening. The air was then filled with the
- 1:46:21screams of her daughter running to the living room.
- 1:46:25She then saw Cody standing across from her daughter with
- 1:46:29multiple toys floating in the air around them.
- 1:46:33Upon seeing the scene, she covered her mouth, trying not to
- 1:46:37scream as the toys fell 1 by 1 and hit the ground.
- 1:46:43She told Jan that she was afraid of Cody and that not only could
- 1:46:47she not watch him anymore, but that her daughter was not
- 1:46:51allowed to play with him either. It's a somber drive back home.
- 1:46:57Jan knows that she has to have someone watch Cody during the
- 1:47:00day because she can't afford to lose her job.
- 1:47:04Once the 2 arrive, she grabs the phone book and frantically
- 1:47:09begins calling daycares, trying to find a reputable place that
- 1:47:13will take him. Finally finding one after a few
- 1:47:16phone calls, she sighs with relief.
- 1:47:20After hanging up the phone, she sits at the table with her son.
- 1:47:24She tells him that he is in no circumstances allowed to take
- 1:47:29man with him anywhere, but especially to his new daycare.
- 1:47:35Surprisingly, the child agrees not to.
- 1:47:40For the next week, all seems well during the day, with Cody
- 1:47:44at daycare and his parents working their jobs, but at
- 1:47:49night, the entity known as Man waits for him to return.
- 1:47:54One evening, as Dale goes to Cody's room to get him for
- 1:47:58supper, he finds his son cutting up stuffed animals.
- 1:48:03Although the incident disturbs him, he doesn't blame it on
- 1:48:07anything paranormal. He sits Cody in the living room
- 1:48:11and discusses the matter with his wife in the adjacent
- 1:48:15kitchen. In the meantime, Cody had other
- 1:48:18plans. As Dale describes, that man told
- 1:48:22their son that it was OK for him to cut up his toys to Jan.
- 1:48:27The two suddenly stop when they hear the muffled screams of the
- 1:48:31family cat. Pamela, heading out of her
- 1:48:35bedroom, then confronts her younger brother.
- 1:48:39She yells at him and pushes him off the couch.
- 1:48:43There. Underneath where he had been
- 1:48:45sitting, he had trapped the cat with a cushion and a pillow,
- 1:48:51seemingly trying to suffocate it.
- 1:48:54As Pamela tends to the poor animal, Jan and Dale rush into
- 1:48:59the room and they see a sinister grin upon Cody's face.
- 1:49:05Horrified, the couple realized that they can't pretend to be
- 1:49:08rational anymore. Whatever that's happening to
- 1:49:12their son was serious, but they were unsure of just how to
- 1:49:16tackle the situation. The following morning as Jan
- 1:49:21goes to grab clothes from Cody's closet to get him ready for
- 1:49:24daycare, she notices that his clothes are damp and that
- 1:49:29wouldn't be all, his toys and bed were wet as well.
- 1:49:35She would discover that her son had been urinating all over his
- 1:49:38things inside and outside of his closet.
- 1:49:43Further disturbed, she then confronts him and he says that
- 1:49:48man told him it was OK and that he didn't have to listen to her
- 1:49:52anymore. He then begins hitting her and
- 1:49:56lashing out, which only causes her more emotional torment in
- 1:50:02her own words. Everything started happening at
- 1:50:06such a fast pace, the behavior, the urinating, trying to kill
- 1:50:13the kitten. I just wanted my son back and I
- 1:50:17felt as if he was being controlled by some kind of
- 1:50:20monster. 1 Cold Night As wind whips the windows of the house,
- 1:50:28the Fosters are surprised by a visitor in their room in the
- 1:50:32middle of the night. It's Cody.
- 1:50:35He's calling out to them for the first time in a very long time.
- 1:50:41He said that his bed was shaking and that he needed his Mama.
- 1:50:47At this moment, Jan saw the glimpse of the boy she hadn't
- 1:50:51seen in over a year. As she holds her child for the
- 1:50:55first time in what feels like an eternity, she knows that man is
- 1:51:00not with him. She also is reminded why she
- 1:51:04must keep fighting for her boy, that ultimately she must
- 1:51:09confront this entity. Waiting until Cody was fast
- 1:51:13asleep in their bed with Dale, Jane quietly gets out of bed and
- 1:51:19heads down the hallway and towards Cody's room by herself.
- 1:51:25With every step she takes, she's silently praying to God to give
- 1:51:30her the strength confront whatever this creature is that
- 1:51:34has a grip on her family. Finally making it to the
- 1:51:38threshold of the room, she takes a deep breath and enters.
- 1:51:45Glancing around the room, she sees nothing.
- 1:51:49Wanting to put herself in the shoes of her son, she lays down
- 1:51:54where he would normally sleep in his bed, hoping that if she
- 1:51:58persists enough, that man would possibly try to communicate with
- 1:52:03her. She lays there for several
- 1:52:06minutes, but nothing happens. She then sees who she believes
- 1:52:12to be her son in the doorway, calling out to him.
- 1:52:16He comes to her and embraces her.
- 1:52:20However, Jansen senses that something is horribly wrong.
- 1:52:26The embrace feels all wrong. His hands are ice cold.
- 1:52:31And then suddenly she realizes that this isn't her son at all.
- 1:52:37As she pushes the figure back, it begins to grow.
- 1:52:42It soon towers over her. Its skin is pale and its eyes a
- 1:52:48deep blood red. Its teeth are gnarled and
- 1:52:54rotten. It pushes her down onto the bed,
- 1:52:58begins laughing in a deep demonic tone.
- 1:53:04In Jan's own words, he started laughing very demonically when
- 1:53:10this sudden realization came over me.
- 1:53:13This was man screaming for her life.
- 1:53:18The apparition disappears in the blink of an eye as soon as her
- 1:53:22family rushes into Cody's room to figure out just what was
- 1:53:26going on. Dale then holds his wife as she
- 1:53:30sobs uncontrollably. Once she finally regains her
- 1:53:34bearings, Jan calms the rest of the family down enough to get
- 1:53:39them all back into bed for the night.
- 1:53:41She, however, is unable to sleep, heading to the living
- 1:53:46room. Contemplating just what exactly
- 1:53:49to do about this grievous revelation, she begins begging
- 1:53:53God for guidance in her own words.
- 1:53:56Yet again. I was frightened beyond means,
- 1:54:00but another part of me, once the adrenaline started surging, knew
- 1:54:05that I had to face this. I had to do something to protect
- 1:54:09my family and to protect Cody and to keep this entity from
- 1:54:14taking him any further. Jane considers many things,
- 1:54:19including packing up her family to move, but she thinks that man
- 1:54:23is certainly attached to her son, that it wouldn't do any
- 1:54:27good. She doesn't sleep through the
- 1:54:30rest of the night. The following morning, as
- 1:54:34everyone else heads out to start their day, she takes Cody to
- 1:54:38daycare, as is the normal routine, but instead of heading
- 1:54:43to work herself, she heads back home and makes an urgent phone
- 1:54:48call. She calls her friend who is a
- 1:54:51Native American medicine man. By this time she hasn't spoken
- 1:54:56to him in about a year since everything started.
- 1:55:00Thankfully he picks up on the other end.
- 1:55:03She explains everything that has been transpiring and that she's
- 1:55:07seen the entity with her own eyes.
- 1:55:10That she believes it to be some kind of demon.
- 1:55:14That this a born entity had been masquerading as a little boy to
- 1:55:19gain entry into her son's life. The shaman explains that he now
- 1:55:24understands why the initial cleansing didn't work.
- 1:55:27He believed that the intent was not specific enough since they
- 1:55:31believed that they were revoking an invitation of a little boy
- 1:55:35and not something darker. He then tells her that she will
- 1:55:40have to bless the house again, only this time she must focus
- 1:55:45with all of her strength on riding the home of this evil
- 1:55:48spirit. Jam wonders if she's strong
- 1:55:51enough to be able to accomplish this alone in her own words.
- 1:55:56I didn't know if I was going to be able to do this myself.
- 1:56:00I'm just a mom. I'm not a priest.
- 1:56:04I'll be it. I have a spiritual side, but I
- 1:56:07was willing to give it my all to defend myself and my family.
- 1:56:12The shaman tells her that she must do this and must be brave
- 1:56:17and forceful with her intent to banish this demon, that she must
- 1:56:22not show any doubt and her efforts.
- 1:56:26With these parting words, Jan braces herself and then gets to
- 1:56:31work performing a second ritual. Starting on the four corners of
- 1:56:36the property, she creates A barrier using olive oil.
- 1:56:41She then enters a state of constant prayer while she sages
- 1:56:45around her property, slowly working her way inside.
- 1:56:50This time, instead of feeling weak, she begins to feel an
- 1:56:55inner strength, as if someone or something was standing beside
- 1:57:01her during her prayers. As she enters her home, she
- 1:57:06notices that the temperature of the house is abnormally cold,
- 1:57:11frigid to the point to where she can see her breath hang in the
- 1:57:15air as it fills with sage smoke. She knows there is a presence
- 1:57:21that resides within its walls. Feeling as if she's being
- 1:57:25watched, she continues to pray and smudge the home, going from
- 1:57:32room to room. As she does this, the walls and
- 1:57:36windows begin to shake, yet her prayers are uninterrupted.
- 1:57:43She knows that Man is watching her, trying to break her
- 1:57:47concentration. As the activity reaches a fever
- 1:57:51pitch, so do her prayers. She is yelling now and calling
- 1:57:58upon God to banish the entity known as Man from her home and
- 1:58:03from all of their lives. It is here that suddenly and
- 1:58:08violently, all of the doors within the house open, and an
- 1:58:13unearthly scream echoes all throughout the house.
- 1:58:17Then, as quickly as the doors opened, they suddenly all
- 1:58:22slammed closed. Breathing heavily, Jan
- 1:58:26immediately notices that the feeling within the home is like
- 1:58:30night turning. Today, in her own words, was if
- 1:58:36a veil had lifted, a dark veil of pain and confusion.
- 1:58:42I noticed the trees and I could hear the birds.
- 1:58:46I was back to a normal reality. Following this intense
- 1:58:52cleansing, the entity known as man has yet to return.
- 1:58:57In due time, the foster family seemed to go back to normal.
- 1:59:02Cody in particular ceased the horrendous behavior and was no
- 1:59:07longer influenced by the darkness of the demonic.
- 1:59:13However, this wasn't the end to the strange paranormal
- 1:59:16manifestations they would all experience.
- 1:59:20They continued to hear noises they couldn't explain and feel
- 1:59:25as if unseen eyes were watching them at all times.
- 1:59:30Was this the demon known as Man? Slytherin around them, watching
- 1:59:35and waiting to devour their very souls.
- 1:59:41This case has been requested numerous times for me to cover
- 1:59:45and I'm glad to have finally given it its time of day.
- 1:59:48It's certainly a terrifying and very intriguing one to say the
- 1:59:52least. The names within the case were
- 1:59:55changed to protect the anonymity of the family who was involved.
- 1:59:59Therefore updates as hard as I looked are unavailable.
- 2:00:04I can only hope that the foster family or whoever they may be
- 2:00:09are good and safe today, that Cody and Pamela have grown up to
- 2:00:14be decent, functioning people, and I truly wish them all the
- 2:00:19best. With that being said, I do have
- 2:00:23several questions and statements I'd like to share with you.
- 2:00:26Now, these are my thoughts on the case as a whole.
- 2:00:30First of all, just how did man enter Cody's life?
- 2:00:35Was it a demon that was stalking or haunting the land itself?
- 2:00:40Was it picked up somewhere else and then brought back with the
- 2:00:43child? It obviously posed itself as a
- 2:00:46child in order to gain Cody's trust to begin with.
- 2:00:51This reminds me a lot of the Sally House case, which I've
- 2:00:53just covered several weeks ago now, and it goes to show that
- 2:00:57the demonic has no qualms about masquerading itself as the
- 2:01:01ultimate innocence in order to prey upon us.
- 2:01:05Do you think the native banishing was sufficient, or do
- 2:01:09you think a Catholic priest should have been involved?
- 2:01:12I'm always curious to hear people's feedback on situations
- 2:01:15like this because I have personally seen a banishing
- 2:01:19happen in real time using sage, but the entity was just forced
- 2:01:23outside of the house. They continued to try to get
- 2:01:26back in, but if cleansing using sage on the property as a whole
- 2:01:31as well as the house was done, maybe it would have forced the
- 2:01:34spirit out entirely. Considering Jan used Christian
- 2:01:39prayer alongside sage and sweetgrass smudging, it
- 2:01:42certainly makes for a very interesting hybrid cleansing
- 2:01:46that in my opinion would have worked if her faith was strong
- 2:01:50enough. If man gave Cody an old Polaroid
- 2:01:53of who he supposedly was in life as the one shown to Jan by Cody
- 2:01:59with the little boy and the elderly lady.
- 2:02:02Just where did this picture come from and who did it end up
- 2:02:06being? Did it come from inside the
- 2:02:09house or somewhere else? And lastly, as to not pose too
- 2:02:14many questions, if the family continued to experience
- 2:02:18paranormal happenings such as unexplained noises and the
- 2:02:23feelings of being watched, was man ever truly banished or just
- 2:02:28weakened by Jan's cleansing efforts?
- 2:02:31Or if man was banished, did perhaps something else happen on
- 2:02:37the land where the home now sits that could have potentially
- 2:02:41scarred it, such as a tragic event?
- 2:02:44With this being said, could there possibly be a portal on
- 2:02:48the land or now within the house itself?
- 2:02:52One where the veil between our world and the next is much
- 2:02:56thinner, allowing entities, especially dark ones, to sneak
- 2:03:02through? Ultimately, your conclusions are
- 2:03:06up to you. Let me know what you think down

- 2:04:06is a little different in this one and that's because with the

- 2:05:01Please make sure to stay safe out there and take care.
- 2:05:05I'll see you. Next time, after exploring a
- 2:05:10tunnel with a dark in terrifying history, a couple soon learns
- 2:05:16that their home has been invaded by an uninvited darkness.
- 2:05:22The Presence toys with them, but in due time it would reveal the
- 2:05:27true horror of its nature. Will they survive or will the
- 2:05:33Abyss take them? This is the.
- 2:05:36True and terrifying story of Candace and John St.
- 2:05:40Clair's Haunting, which took place in Appalachia in 2010 and
- 2:05:47this one. As with most of the stories I've
- 2:05:49researched and covered on this channel, I wouldn't recommend
- 2:05:53watching this episode in the dark unless you like looking
- 2:05:57over your shoulder and jumping at every small noise that goes
- 2:06:03bump in the night. Nestled on the banks of the
- 2:06:07Lovisa River and surrounded by the mountains of Appalachia lies
- 2:06:12the small town of Grundy, Virginia.
- 2:06:17A place now known for community pride and also has a dark
- 2:06:21history from slavery to mine explosions and other accidents.
- 2:06:30These events weave a complicated web of despair, despair that
- 2:06:35could have perhaps played a role in the story that I'm about to
- 2:06:39tell. Candace St.
- 2:06:42Clair shivered despite the warm Virginia air as she and her
- 2:06:46husband, John. Stood before the gaping mouth of
- 2:06:50an abandoned tunnel. A jagged arch of crumbling stone
- 2:06:55loomed over them, covered in streaks of Moss and graffiti.
- 2:07:01The surrounding forest was eerily quiet, as if even the
- 2:07:05animals avoided this place. Crippy as hell, huh?
- 2:07:10John smirked, his flashlight cutting through the darkness.
- 2:07:15The beam barely penetrated the tunnel's interior.
- 2:07:19It was. Swallowed almost immediately by
- 2:07:23thick blackness within. Yeah, let's just get this over
- 2:07:27with, Candace murmured, gripping his arm.
- 2:07:32Their friend Stacy had told them about the tunnel's legend, a
- 2:07:36story that intrigued the couple, the one that almost made them
- 2:07:40air on the side of caution. The story.
- 2:07:44Was that a wealthy man back in the 1800s had built this tunnel
- 2:07:49using slave labor. One night he had caught one of
- 2:07:53the slaves with his wife. Angered at this discovery, he
- 2:07:58punished the slave responsible, and as a result, the other
- 2:08:03slaves had begun to rebel against him.
- 2:08:07In an act of rage and malice. The slave master then took the
- 2:08:12majority of his slaves and had them sealed within the walls of
- 2:08:16the tunnels, alive, forever encasing the human souls.
- 2:08:24Within the tunnel itself, the whispered stories of phantom
- 2:08:29voices in the dark, feeling unseen hands brushing against
- 2:08:33visitors, and worst of. All the belief that something
- 2:08:38unexplained lurked inside, watching and waiting for the
- 2:08:44unsuspecting. It was just a legend.
- 2:08:48They had told themselves a story.
- 2:08:52But even standing at the entrance, Candace felt an
- 2:08:56inexplicable weight pressing on her chest.
- 2:09:00Candace adjusted the recorder in her hand.
- 2:09:03She'd always been sensitive to the paranormal, and while John
- 2:09:08treated their ghost hunting adventures as a joke, she felt
- 2:09:12drawn to this place, as if something was calling her.
- 2:09:17As they stepped inside, the temperature plummeted then, as
- 2:09:22John whispered A mocking. Come out, come out wherever you
- 2:09:26are. Almost as soon as the words left
- 2:09:30his lips, A rush of chilly wind blasted past them, and the
- 2:09:35couple believed that they had heard a series of whispers, ones
- 2:09:40that were just beyond their ability to make out what they
- 2:09:44were saying. Candace's stomach twisted.
- 2:09:49They weren't alone. Frightened, she then asked John
- 2:09:53to leave. That night, when they returned
- 2:09:57home, things felt off. Their new house had felt warm
- 2:10:04and inviting, but that night, the air inside felt stagnant,
- 2:10:10damp and heavy, like the inside of a tomb.
- 2:10:16It felt smothering, as if an unseen weight pressed against
- 2:10:20their chests. The couple had recently
- 2:10:23purchased and moved into their home, which was located on the
- 2:10:27outskirts of town. Just close enough to town for
- 2:10:32errands and just far out enough for peace.
- 2:10:36And things hadn't at all felt this way before.
- 2:10:40Deciding that perhaps their nerves were getting the best of
- 2:10:43them, the couple, along with their daughter, decided to lay
- 2:10:47down for the night for some much needed rest.
- 2:10:52But as the moonlight cast its shadow upon the rocky exterior
- 2:10:56of the mountains surrounding them, and nocturnal predators
- 2:11:01haunted their prey, perhaps a different hunter of swords now.
- 2:11:06Also stalked its prey. Within the walls of the Saint
- 2:11:10Clair home, their five year old daughter Jaycee tossed and
- 2:11:15turned in her sleep. She seemed to be calling out to
- 2:11:18someone or something. Her cries caught the attention
- 2:11:23of her mother. Who quickly got out of.
- 2:11:26Bed herself and began to head toward her room.
- 2:11:30However, when Candace entered her room, expecting to see her
- 2:11:35daughter laying in her bed, perhaps having a nightmare, she
- 2:11:39instead found the little girl sitting straight up in bed.
- 2:11:44She was staring at the corner of her room by her closet.
- 2:11:49Sweetie. Candace whispered, stepping
- 2:11:52closer. Are you OK?
- 2:11:55Jaycee turned to look at her, blinking slowly as if waking
- 2:12:00from a dream. The man in the tunnel is here,
- 2:12:04Mommy. Candace's blood turned to ice.
- 2:12:08They had not taken JC with them to the tunnel, nor had they
- 2:12:12mentioned it to her or around her.
- 2:12:16Following that night's events, JC would have nightmares night
- 2:12:20after night. She would say that the man from
- 2:12:23the tunnel was there with her and it scared her.
- 2:12:28Accompanying these nightmares, the young girl also soon started
- 2:12:32sleepwalking, often times startling her parents awake in
- 2:12:37their own room by standing next to their bed with a glazed look
- 2:12:41in her eyes. But when she'd be asked by her
- 2:12:45parents what she was doing, she wouldn't be able to remember
- 2:12:49what had happened. Trying to playoff the mention of
- 2:12:54any man from the tunnel, they figured their poor daughter was
- 2:12:58just struggling to get used to a new environment.
- 2:13:02That perhaps the. Stress of the move, alongside
- 2:13:05other changes, had caused the sudden development that she
- 2:13:10would get used to things in due time.
- 2:13:14Perhaps she would, or perhaps not.
- 2:13:18With her husband working on a project in the basement and her
- 2:13:22daughter at dance practice. Candace, who sewed pageant
- 2:13:27clothes for Jaycee in her spare time, was doing so one evening.
- 2:13:32As she toiled away on her sewing machine, the calm, rhythmic hum
- 2:13:37was abruptly shattered by a deafening crashing noise that
- 2:13:42echoed all throughout the house. Unsure of just what on earth the
- 2:13:47sound was, with her heart hammering inside of her chest
- 2:13:52and her adrenaline surging, she made her way from the upstairs
- 2:13:56sewing room down the stairs, apprehensively checking all
- 2:14:01around with each step as she descended.
- 2:14:05She then heard it again, the sound of glass breaking.
- 2:14:11It seemed to be originating from the kitchen, but just what or
- 2:14:16who was doing this as she approached the kitchen?
- 2:14:21She would be. Shocked by what she would find
- 2:14:25before her very eyes, every single cabinet door stood open
- 2:14:30their contents. Her dishes lay in shattered
- 2:14:35remains on the floor. Bowls, plates and cups of every
- 2:14:40kind lay in pieces everywhere, scattered as if someone or
- 2:14:46something had removed them from the cabinets and with great
- 2:14:51force threw them down with incredible impact.
- 2:14:57In her own words, every single cabinet door was open and every
- 2:15:03single dish I had was broken. I didn't have a plate or a glass
- 2:15:09left. Everything I had was completely
- 2:15:13smashed. That was except a small
- 2:15:17decorative plate that was on display there in her kitchen.
- 2:15:22However, before her very eyes, she watched as it began to move
- 2:15:28on its own, wobbling back and forth.
- 2:15:32It then flew across the room towards her and shattered on the
- 2:15:37wall next to her. With her daughter and husband
- 2:15:40nowhere near the general vicinity and in a state of
- 2:15:44shock, Candace screamed for her husband.
- 2:15:49Hearing the cries of his wife, John soon arrived by her side
- 2:15:53from elsewhere in the house. He too couldn't believe what he
- 2:15:57was witnessing, asking her just how this happened, with her
- 2:16:02telling him that she came downstairs to this his mind
- 2:16:07immediately. Thought that there could
- 2:16:09perhaps? Be an intruder within the home.
- 2:16:12Quickly going into protector mode, John began sweeping the
- 2:16:16house. Not only did he not find anyone,
- 2:16:21but all of the doors and windows were still locked.
- 2:16:25This just further added to the mystery.
- 2:16:29JC, who has continued to struggle with nightmares and
- 2:16:33apparent sleep walking, has begun sleeping with her parents
- 2:16:38in an effort to quell everyone's fears.
- 2:16:42A few nights later, following the kitchen incident as the moon
- 2:16:47hung high over the Saint Clair residence, Candace wakes up out
- 2:16:51of a sound sleep. The air in the house felt heavy
- 2:16:56and damp yet again. She was sweating and there
- 2:17:01didn't seem to be any circulation in the air.
- 2:17:04Getting up to turn on the air conditioner, she walks down the
- 2:17:08stairs and towards the thermostat on the wall at the
- 2:17:11bottom. Wiping sweat from her brow, she
- 2:17:15then reaches out to turn it on and adjust the temperature of
- 2:17:19the house. When all of a sudden she felt a
- 2:17:23hand grip her wrist and her own words yet again.
- 2:17:29I felt something grab my wrist and I knew my family was asleep
- 2:17:34upstairs. My heart skipped a beat.
- 2:17:39I turned around and there was nothing there.
- 2:17:43I was terrified. I looked down the hallway and I
- 2:17:48didn't see anything. There was nothing there.
- 2:17:53I thought, am I going crazy? Am I just really sleepy?
- 2:17:59I wasn't sure. So, not knowing what to make of
- 2:18:04the bizarre experience, she slowly starts walking back up
- 2:18:08the stairs. Still scared, but certainly
- 2:18:13unsure, she decides that this time she'll keep the experience
- 2:18:18to herself. But whatever force that seemed
- 2:18:22to lurk in the shadows was far from finished.
- 2:18:27Over the next several weeks to come, Candace continues to
- 2:18:31experience strange manifestations within her home,
- 2:18:36things that begin to make her second guess herself and
- 2:18:40question her own sanity. One night, while John is at
- 2:18:45work, Candace puts Jaycee to bed in her own room this time.
- 2:18:51Or so she thinks. As she folds laundry downstairs,
- 2:18:56she hears her daughter, still awake, heading back upstairs and
- 2:19:01approaching her room to tell her that it's time for bed.
- 2:19:05She instead comes face to face with nothing.
- 2:19:11The room is empty. Then from behind her she begins
- 2:19:16to hear multiple things that are very odd to say the least.
- 2:19:21She begins to hear the sound of her daughter giggling and
- 2:19:25laughing from the other room. Now she walks towards these
- 2:19:29sounds. She begins to hear something
- 2:19:32else, The sounds of labored, heavy breathing.
- 2:19:38Continuing to follow the sounds of her daughter's laughter, she
- 2:19:42finds herself approaching her own bedroom.
- 2:19:46Upon opening the door, thinking her daughter is playing some
- 2:19:49sort of trick on her, she instead finds her fast asleep in
- 2:19:55her and John's bed. Unsure yet again what to make of
- 2:19:59this very unnerving experience, she turns around and quietly
- 2:20:05shuts the door behind her after doing so.
- 2:20:10She takes several steps down the hallway toward the direction of
- 2:20:14the stairs. The lights begin to flicker.
- 2:20:18Looking around, slightly disoriented at first, she finds
- 2:20:24her eyes landing on a figure at the end of the hallway.
- 2:20:29This figure is much too large to be a man.
- 2:20:33It stands at least 10 feet tall, and at first, given its distance
- 2:20:38from her, it appears dark as the night.
- 2:20:43However, as it begins slowly and menacingly walking towards her,
- 2:20:49she starts to make out horrid features and Candace's own
- 2:20:54words. This thing was huge, easily 10
- 2:20:58feet tall. It had horns and scales.
- 2:21:04I began to freeze. It's like everything froze my
- 2:21:09thoughts and everything. There was just this one moment
- 2:21:13of absolute silence. Time stands still briefly and
- 2:21:19then you're jerked back into reality and then you go into
- 2:21:24survival mode. As the creature gets closer to
- 2:21:28her, she makes out it's abhorrent and terrifying
- 2:21:31features. It then, staring at her with jet
- 2:21:36black eyes, protruding teeth and horns, reaches towards her with
- 2:21:43clawed hands. Almost as soon as it makes
- 2:21:47contact with her skin, a scream erupts from her lips.
- 2:21:52She is touched, but not by this creature.
- 2:21:57Instead, her screams are interrupted by her husband, who
- 2:22:03has found her screaming at the end of the hallway in front of
- 2:22:07their bedroom door. In John's words, I had worked
- 2:22:13late that evening and when I had got home I found her like that
- 2:22:18and she was incredibly upset. Asking his wife Candace what's
- 2:22:23wrong, she then tries to explain what she had seen and
- 2:22:28experienced. But words can only do so much,
- 2:22:33with first their daughters night terrors and their dishes being
- 2:22:37broken and now this. She believes that there is
- 2:22:42something here in the house and that she may have just seen what
- 2:22:47it is. John, however, feels
- 2:22:50differently. He just thought his.
- 2:22:53Wife may have been having a bit of an emotional breakdown, not
- 2:22:58only from being overworked, but with him having to often times
- 2:23:01work long hours. He thought maybe she just needed
- 2:23:05a break to recuperate. But Candace knows what she saw.
- 2:23:10She tells him. You know what, you can take it
- 2:23:13or leave it. But I know what I saw and I know
- 2:23:17that there's something in this house.
- 2:23:20There's something going on here that's deeper than either of us
- 2:23:24can imagine, and I don't feel safe here anymore.
- 2:23:28This event proves to be a diverging event for the couple
- 2:23:32following it. Candace finds it hard to confide
- 2:23:36in her husband and the two grow distant.
- 2:23:40One afternoon, shortly after Candace had seen the creature,
- 2:23:45she was measuring her daughter for a new pageant dress in the
- 2:23:48family living room. John, who was off work that day,
- 2:23:54was watching TV. Occasionally the TV had done
- 2:23:59strange things such as cycle through the channels, emit a
- 2:24:04loud high pitched noise or turn itself on and off without any
- 2:24:10involvement of the remote or the physical pressing of buttons.
- 2:24:16It started doing this again as the three were in the room
- 2:24:20together, believing it to be an electrical short within that
- 2:24:24part of the. House.
- 2:24:26John dismisses the TV's strange behavior.
- 2:24:30He then goes and unplugs it as it's cycling through the
- 2:24:34channels and making the high pitched noise.
- 2:24:38The screen then goes black. As he gets back up to head to
- 2:24:43get some of his tools to take a look at the wiring in front of
- 2:24:47all three of them, the TV turns back on, with Jaycee asking just
- 2:24:54what the television was doing as Candace and John stare and
- 2:24:58bewilderman at it. Or it's on and acting erratic
- 2:25:04with no power source at all. At that, neither of them know
- 2:25:09what to tell her, or even what to say for that matter.
- 2:25:14Finally, after a few seconds that feel like hours, Candace
- 2:25:19breaks the silence. She says I don't feel safe here,
- 2:25:25we need to leave. She then tells Jaycee that the
- 2:25:28two of them are going to go to the park.
- 2:25:32In her own words, that was my breaking point with John.
- 2:25:37He was looking around and thinking what do I check now
- 2:25:41because he had checked everything and the TV was on
- 2:25:45without being plugged in. Several weeks would pass by
- 2:25:49after this event and the once happy couple had further drifted
- 2:25:54apart. Their once thriving marriage and
- 2:25:58relationship were practically non existent.
- 2:26:02Communication had broken down and a blanket of sorrow now
- 2:26:07covered them all. One night, as John had some
- 2:26:12beers downstairs by himself while his wife and child slept
- 2:26:16upstairs, Candace is suddenly and brutally woken up by large
- 2:26:24clawed hands strangling her. She can't scream and she can't
- 2:26:29breathe. She's then thrown from her side
- 2:26:33of the bed to the other. As she rolls, gasping for air,
- 2:26:39she looks up and sees what she describes as a.
- 2:26:43Gargoyle like creature. The same one she had seen in the
- 2:26:47hallway a good while ago now. Its skin was like leather, its
- 2:26:55eyes were black as the abyss and its face was semi human in
- 2:27:01appearance. She would later say that while
- 2:27:05she was in that moment, I felt as if this thing had taken
- 2:27:09everything else from me and now it was going to take my life.
- 2:27:14All I could think about was that I'm going to die, I'm not going
- 2:27:18to be here anymore, my family isn't going to have me anymore.
- 2:27:24And it was the most terrifying feeling imaginable.
- 2:27:28Now off the bed and her back against the bedroom wall, the
- 2:27:32creature once again comes after her.
- 2:27:35As John sits downstairs, he is soon called to action when he
- 2:27:40hears the shrill screams of his wife upstairs.
- 2:27:44Rushing to their bedroom as fast as he possibly can, he finds
- 2:27:49Candace crying out in pain and in a ball on the floor.
- 2:27:55After helping her back onto the bed, she tells him that this
- 2:27:59thing, this creature attacked her.
- 2:28:02She then, when singing pain, lifts up her shirt to reveal 3
- 2:28:09long and huge bleeding scratch marks across her stomach.
- 2:28:14John doesn't know what to make of the situation.
- 2:28:18Candace is now far past the point of trying to convince him
- 2:28:22that something is haunting their home.
- 2:28:25She instead puts her faith in her higher power.
- 2:28:29But after reaching out to dozens of churches and religious
- 2:28:32organizations and having no help.
- 2:28:36Or the offer of. Assistance from any of them she
- 2:28:40knows. That it's up to.
- 2:28:41Her to fight this battle. For the sake of herself and her
- 2:28:46family, without their assistance.
- 2:28:50After doing research on the Internet, she puts together a
- 2:28:54list of specific prayers and gets several bottles of anointed
- 2:28:59oil. She then, after a deep breath,
- 2:29:03begins the cleansing of her house.
- 2:29:06She goes room to room, putting the anointed oil on each doorway
- 2:29:12and calling out from her Bible for God to clear the home of any
- 2:29:17negative beings that could be there uninvited from the.
- 2:29:21Back of the house. To the front, she is cleansing
- 2:29:26and reclaiming her home. Following her efforts, she
- 2:29:30immediately notices that the environment as a whole feels so
- 2:29:34much lighter. The air seemed fresher and
- 2:29:38easier to breathe. In the coming weeks this would
- 2:29:42continue to be the case, but in the back of her mind she was
- 2:29:48frightened that whatever this entity was could potentially
- 2:29:52come back. Life for a time seemed to go
- 2:29:56back to normal for the Saint Claire's and although weary they
- 2:30:01all tried to resume their normal day-to-day activities.
- 2:30:05That was until 1 solemn night. John is in the bedroom changing
- 2:30:12his clothes after a work day, when he soon gets the sneaking
- 2:30:16suspicion that someone is watching him.
- 2:30:21Turning around and expecting to perhaps see his wife standing in
- 2:30:25the room, he is instead greeted by something very different.
- 2:30:31In his words, it looked like a person in the face, but it was
- 2:30:37distorted that had these long horns and teeth and these
- 2:30:43scales. It just kept getting closer and
- 2:30:47closer to me, and the closer it got to me, the hotter I got.
- 2:30:54Now sweating profusely with the creature mere inches away from
- 2:30:58him, it then points its clawed finger towards his chest and
- 2:31:04within seconds it's holding his beating heart.
- 2:31:10As he stands there, petrified with fear and struggling to
- 2:31:14breathe, this creature is just staring back at him with black
- 2:31:20eyes, holding his heart. John suddenly wakes up out of a
- 2:31:26dead sleep. Thankfully, it was just a dream.
- 2:31:31I'll be it. A horrible one at that.
- 2:31:35After calming himself down, which takes several minutes, he
- 2:31:40finally lays his head back down to try and rest again.
- 2:31:44But when his head hits the pillow, he then starts hearing
- 2:31:49footsteps from somewhere else in the house.
- 2:31:54With his adrenaline surging and already on the edge from his
- 2:31:57nightmare, he quickly gets up to investigate.
- 2:32:02Peering out into the hallway, he sees nothing.
- 2:32:07With Candace still asleep in their bed and now checking on
- 2:32:11their daughter, she too is asleep.
- 2:32:15Continuing to hear footsteps downstairs, he slowly makes his
- 2:32:20way down to the base level further fearing what he may
- 2:32:24find. Glancing around at first he sees
- 2:32:29nothing yet again, but turning back after looking behind
- 2:32:33himself, he is suddenly face to face with a massive figure.
- 2:32:40It's skin is rough and cracked, like aged leather stretched too
- 2:32:46tight over jagged bones. The eyes were pits of blackness,
- 2:32:52voids that seem to drink the light around them.
- 2:32:57It didn't move, and it didn't blink.
- 2:33:01It only watched, but in an instant, with incredible speed,
- 2:33:07it surged toward him and grabbed him by his throat with its
- 2:33:12gnarled, clawed hand. In John's words, in the blink of
- 2:33:18an eye, it grabbed my neck and lifted me straight up and off
- 2:33:23the ground. It seemed like it was letting me
- 2:33:27know that it was there, that it was in control, and I wasn't.
- 2:33:33Then, almost as quickly as the attack had begun, it was over.
- 2:33:40John was thrown to the ground, discarded like garbage as he lay
- 2:33:46alternating between gasping and screaming.
- 2:33:50Candace soon rushes to his aid. The touch of her hand on his arm
- 2:33:56causes his adrenaline to spike and he shoots up to the sitting
- 2:34:00position. Then, realizing that it was his
- 2:34:04wife and not that thing, he begins to apologize profusely.
- 2:34:11After validating one another, with John now absolutely
- 2:34:15convinced that there is something malevolent and
- 2:34:18paranormal dwelling within the walls of their home, the Saint
- 2:34:22Claire's know that they must try and seek help immediately.
- 2:34:28Together, they begin researching and eventually come across the
- 2:34:32Southern Highlands Paranormal Investigation Group.
- 2:34:36Upon speaking with one of its members, a man named Stacy
- 2:34:41Kuchner, the group soon agrees to come and conduct a formal
- 2:34:45investigation of the property. Upon arrival, Stacy and one of
- 2:34:51his colleagues decide to conduct a series of questions to
- 2:34:56whatever force may be lurking there using the flashlight
- 2:35:00method in conjunction with an audio device in the hopes of
- 2:35:04capturing Evps or electronic voice phenomena.
- 2:35:09The flashlight method. That one places a flashlight
- 2:35:13upright on a table and asks the spirits to reply using yes or no
- 2:35:18responses through turning off and on the light.
- 2:35:23For a good while, the team is unsuccessful in making any sort
- 2:35:28of contact. However, upon asking if whatever
- 2:35:33stalked the family had followed them from another place, the
- 2:35:38flashlight suddenly turns itself on.
- 2:35:43A follow up question is then asked.
- 2:35:46Are you a malevolent force? The flashlight once again lights
- 2:35:50up these questions and the following frighten and confirm
- 2:35:56what Candace and John already knew.
- 2:35:59The final question is are you demonic or non human in nature?
- 2:36:06To which the flashlight, once again brighter than ever,
- 2:36:10illuminates the room. Stacy then tells the couple that
- 2:36:16it's important that they try and figure out why this entity
- 2:36:19followed them and from where, in order to try and rid themselves
- 2:36:24of the attachment. Candace tells him that ever
- 2:36:28since she was little, she seemed to be able to sense certain
- 2:36:33things, almost as if she's in tune with the other side.
- 2:36:39This is not information she has ever shared out loud before with
- 2:36:43anyone believing that Candace could perhaps be sensitive to
- 2:36:47the paranormal, and upon further inquiry, the couple remembers
- 2:36:53the tunnel all those months ago. With this information, Stacy
- 2:36:59thinks that it's possible that a demonic entity may have attached
- 2:37:03itself to Candace while they were there due to her abilities.
- 2:37:09In Stacy's words, due to all the evil that had taken place there,
- 2:37:14and also due to its secluded nature, it was really a prime
- 2:37:18breeding ground for something dark to manifest itself.
- 2:37:22Someone who is psychic may inadvertently be open in a
- 2:37:26spiritual sense and must be extra careful when traveling to
- 2:37:31different locations because any negative forces may realize
- 2:37:35their presence and seek them out, leading to attachments but
- 2:37:41leaving the presence to be demonic.
- 2:37:44He tells the couple that they must cleanse the home
- 2:37:46immediately, that only good can conquer evil.
- 2:37:52In the coming days. He puts them in contact with the
- 2:37:55Catholic priest that he has worked with in the past to come
- 2:37:59and bless the home. Upon the priest's arrival, he
- 2:38:03debriefs the family. He tells them that they must be
- 2:38:07in solidarity with one another and with him.
- 2:38:12He hands them prayer cards to assist him with the cleansing
- 2:38:15itself. Then all together, they begin to
- 2:38:20pray. They call upon Saint Michael the
- 2:38:23Archangel and ask for his assistance in riding the home of
- 2:38:29demonic forces. At the end of the blessing, the
- 2:38:35house feels better to everyone, lighter, as if whatever dark
- 2:38:40force that had infested their lives had perhaps been
- 2:38:45vanquished. In the coming months, the family
- 2:38:49slowly begins to slip back into a life of normalcy, one they had
- 2:38:54craved, but it almost all but forgotten.
- 2:38:58Beauty, pageants, closeness, and love had returned.
- 2:39:04One day as the Saint Claire's get ready to go out to dinner,
- 2:39:09Candace tells JC to quickly finish getting ready while
- 2:39:12standing outside her room. JC is sitting on her bed with
- 2:39:17one of her toys facing away from her mother.
- 2:39:21Almost as quickly as the phrase exits Candace's mouth, she hears
- 2:39:26her daughter reply to her, but not from the top of her bed in
- 2:39:30front of her eyes, but rather from behind her at the bottom of
- 2:39:36the stairs with John. Confused because she was hearing
- 2:39:41and seeing her daughter behind her, but also seeing her
- 2:39:45daughter in front of her, Candace tells Jaycee to stay
- 2:39:49with her father. The Jaycee sitting before her
- 2:39:53then slowly begins to turn its head towards Candace.
- 2:39:58In her words, this child's face was almost hazy, like blurry, as
- 2:40:05if there was something missing. As the being stares at Candace,
- 2:40:10its eyes begin to turn a familiar black color, just like
- 2:40:15the very same light absorbing abyssal spheres that have
- 2:40:19belonged to the demon that had plagued them just months ago.
- 2:40:25It then vanishes. But as it does.
- 2:40:30Candace hears the scream of her daughter at the bottom of the
- 2:40:33stairs, rushing down to her. It quickly becomes apparent that
- 2:40:38she has a long and now bleeding scratch across her face.
- 2:40:43This was the last straw for the Saint Claire's.
- 2:40:47It was horrible enough that the demon had attacked the two of
- 2:40:50them, but to attack their child? They could no longer handle it.
- 2:40:57Although the demon could potentially follow them, they
- 2:41:00decide to take their chances. Seeing no other alternative, the
- 2:41:06family abandons. What was supposed?
- 2:41:08To be their dream home, leaving behind all of their belongings
- 2:41:13and fleeing with just the clothes on their backs.
- 2:41:18In the months to come, the family would find another place
- 2:41:22to live. Fortunately, although they
- 2:41:26believed that the demon had attached itself to Candace
- 2:41:29initially, they now believed that it had attached itself to
- 2:41:33the home because no further activity plagued them.
- 2:41:38No more horrendous manifestations, day or
- 2:41:42nightmares or hellish attacks. Although I did my best to try
- 2:41:48and find an update on the family, I wasn't able to find
- 2:41:52out exactly how they're doing now, but I hope wherever they.
- 2:41:56Are that they are safe. And truly no longer tormented by
- 2:42:01the demonic. I'm not sure if they still own
- 2:42:05the original home in which the case took place, but I do know
- 2:42:09that following their departure as soon as 2016, the house has
- 2:42:14remained vacant. In the aftermath, Candace and
- 2:42:18John turned their frightening experience into a calling.
- 2:42:23They founded a group called Spirit Seekers Paranormal
- 2:42:26Investigation Research Team in 2012, aiming to help other
- 2:42:31families deal with hauntings. This is their team's website,
- 2:42:37spiritseekersteam.wixside.com. By forming Spirit Seekers, the
- 2:42:44couple sought to do more than document ghostly activity.
- 2:42:48They wanted to actively seek and help remove evil entities and
- 2:42:53protect others from suffering like they did during their own
- 2:42:58experiences with their haunting. Candace discovered she had a
- 2:43:03spiritual gift, and as previously explained, they
- 2:43:07believed that the demon targeted her because she is sensitive to
- 2:43:11the spirit world. She has since embraced her role
- 2:43:15as a psychic medium, becoming the team's resident medium.
- 2:43:20Candace is described as a medium psychic and a magnet for
- 2:43:23paranormal activity who can communicate with spirits and
- 2:43:28help them move on. This marks a dramatic personal
- 2:43:32change from haunted victim to healer as she channels her gift
- 2:43:38to ensure others don't have to flee their homes like she once
- 2:43:43did. Before we go, I did want to
- 2:43:47share some of my thoughts on the case as a whole, in no
- 2:43:50particular order. I do think it's possible that
- 2:43:54the demon followed them from the tunnel.
- 2:43:56The tunnel, along with many others in that area, and really
- 2:44:00the area as a whole has a lot of dark history associated with it.
- 2:44:05I think Stacy said it well when he said it seemed to be a
- 2:44:09breeding ground for evil. I think that traumatic events
- 2:44:14like the legend the Saint Clair's were originally told by
- 2:44:17their friend that prompted their interest in going in the 1st
- 2:44:20place could very well have attracted a creature of hell in
- 2:44:25my opinion. It always amazes me how often
- 2:44:28husbands don't believe their wives or have to literally be
- 2:44:32mauled by an entity in order to believe that what they've been
- 2:44:36told is actually taking place. Referring to John and many
- 2:44:41others in cases I've covered. It's not always the case, but it
- 2:44:45certainly occurs enough that it's become a bit of a trope in
- 2:44:49these stories. I also find it interesting how
- 2:44:53Candace was experiencing these daymare type experiences with
- 2:44:57the demon. The way she describes time
- 2:45:00essentially standing still as if she's entered a different plane
- 2:45:03of reality or is frozen in her own time while this entity is in
- 2:45:08proximity to her. I've heard of this in other
- 2:45:12cases and figured it was worth mentioning.
- 2:45:15Is there truly is interesting. I've heard about this in other
- 2:45:19cases and figured it was worth mentioning.
- 2:45:23It is also very interesting that Candace's cleansing as well as
- 2:45:27the priests ultimately both didn't work.
- 2:45:30Albeit they both seem to stave off the demon for a short period
- 2:45:34of time, but they didn't banish it all together.
- 2:45:38I wonder personally if they tried any other methods or
- 2:45:41belief systems, or if they would be open to doing so if they
- 2:45:45still own the house. Also, I'm curious if they dealt
- 2:45:50with a mimic considering it masqueraded itself in various
- 2:45:54forms throughout their experiences.
- 2:45:57The whole concept of mimics terrifies me personally.
- 2:46:02There's just something about it that's just creepy.
- 2:46:06There are many questions with this case and I'd like to hear
- 2:46:09what your thoughts are down in the comments below.

- 2:46:42Could rebuilding your life cause destruction?
- 2:46:45Could it stir up an old evil? When a family loses their father
- 2:46:51in a blaze, the widow and her two children are looking for a
- 2:46:55fresh start. But after moving into what was
- 2:46:59supposed to be their next chapter, they soon would
- 2:47:02discover that they aren't. It's only inhabitants.
- 2:47:06As entities emerge from the walls to collect their very
- 2:47:11souls, Will they survive or be consumed by the darkness that
- 2:47:16surrounds them? This is the untold story of the
- 2:47:20demonic Long Island Haunting, also known as the Long Island
- 2:47:25Terror of New York. This one, even for me, is such
- 2:47:29an insane story. Again, I will advise you to not
- 2:47:33watch this episode alone or in the dark.
- 2:47:37Please subscribe to the channel with notifications on and leave
- 2:47:40this video alike. Now let's get to the Compton.
- 2:47:52Our story begins as a building blazes in the Bronx, NY.
- 2:47:57Firefighters attempting to extinguish the blaze have become
- 2:48:01trapped inside the four story complex right at the very top.
- 2:48:10Sadly, all six of them are forced to choose between jumping
- 2:48:15or succumbing to the flames. Several of the men survive and
- 2:48:21several do not. Lieutenant Curtis Mayran of
- 2:48:25Battalion 26, the husband of Jeanette Mayran, did not.
- 2:48:31Kurt wasn't just a firefighter. He was a family man, a loving
- 2:48:36husband, and a father of two. His passing was not only
- 2:48:40completely unexpected, but downright devastating to all
- 2:48:45those involved. The saddening events shatter any
- 2:48:53resemblance of a planned future that Jeanette foresaw following
- 2:48:58the tragedy. She had to tell her 2 girls that
- 2:49:02they would never see their father again.
- 2:49:05The two are inconsolable. To make things worse, every day
- 2:49:10following the public announcement of what had
- 2:49:12happened, her home has been besieged by the media.
- 2:49:17No care, no compassion. They just wanted a word and a
- 2:49:21picture to sell their latest headline.
- 2:49:25The harassment was constant during this time.
- 2:49:28So thinking of how to solve a crisis, Jeanette begins to ask
- 2:49:32herself, should she try and find a little small place somewhere
- 2:49:37for her and the girls to escape to, to start over at, to start
- 2:49:41fresh? With snow still melting outside,
- 2:49:45she takes them for a car ride one afternoon and seems to
- 2:49:48stumble across a deal that was an answer to her prayers.
- 2:49:53Located outside the city and with the rarity of an acre of
- 2:49:57land sits a rather large home. It will need some work, but she
- 2:50:02thinks she could make that happen.
- 2:50:05From the moment she lays eyes on it, Jeanette feels that this is
- 2:50:09the one. This could be a way to give her
- 2:50:12girls and herself a new life. She jumps on the opportunity.
- 2:50:18Into her bewilderment, her offers accepted.
- 2:50:22Within a month, the Mayrans move from the home that Curtis built
- 2:50:26to a new home, a fresh start outside of the city.
- 2:50:34With the transfer of each bag and each box of belongings, they
- 2:50:38feel as if they're that much closer to peace, the thing that
- 2:50:42they really all wanted. The homes mentioned needed some
- 2:50:46restoration, but with Curtis being a firefighter, his
- 2:50:50brothers in service took it upon themselves to look out for his
- 2:50:54family. With all the manpower, the work
- 2:50:57should be done within a couple weeks.
- 2:51:00However, with the restoration of the home, devastation would
- 2:51:05follow as the construction toils on and unfamiliar with the area
- 2:51:15with valuable tools being left around on occasion, as well as
- 2:51:19their own safety to worry about, Jen decides to put up security
- 2:51:23cameras to monitor things. In total, they have 7 cameras
- 2:51:28installed around the property. The first night that the cameras
- 2:51:32go live, Jen is curious just what all they can see and
- 2:51:36detect. So with this being new
- 2:51:38technology to her, she sits in the living room on her computer,
- 2:51:43tuning into just what was taking place outside of her walls.
- 2:51:48It's night time and the cameras are in night vision mode,
- 2:51:52portraying black and white. As she clicks through the
- 2:51:55different cameras as the evening progresses, she doesn't see
- 2:51:59much. That was until in the middle of
- 2:52:02a frame, she sees a man. This man is standing and staring
- 2:52:08at her home. Given the quality of the cameras
- 2:52:12at the time, she didn't panic, thinking perhaps that her eyes
- 2:52:17were playing tricks on her. To be safe, she makes sure that
- 2:52:21the home is entirely secure and eventually relaxes enough to be
- 2:52:27able to try and get some sleep. As an icy wind blows outside and
- 2:52:33the light snow trickles down and coats the earth, Jeanette and
- 2:52:38her 2 girls lay in their beds. Her mother and sister are
- 2:52:42asleep. To her knowledge that Angela is
- 2:52:46particularly restless, she can't seem to sleep.
- 2:52:51Tossing and turning, she has an uneasy feeling in the pit of her
- 2:52:55stomach. As she toils away in her room,
- 2:52:59she is suddenly interrupted by a strange banging sound.
- 2:53:07As she sits up and listens, she hears it again.
- 2:53:12However, these thumps or knocks seem to be originating from
- 2:53:18inside the walls. Turning on her lamp and standing
- 2:53:22up out of bed, Angela begins to investigate as the noises
- 2:53:27progress in intensity. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to her,
- 2:53:34her younger sister Danine is woken up by the sound of someone
- 2:53:38banging on the outside of her closed bedroom door.
- 2:53:43Calling out to whoever was there, she has met with the
- 2:53:47reply of silence. Finding this strange to say the
- 2:53:52least, and confused after being woken up out of a sound sleep,
- 2:53:58the young girl gets out of bed slowly and apprehensively makes
- 2:54:03her way towards the door. As she turns the knob and peers
- 2:54:08through the opening, she soon swings the door open to reveal
- 2:54:15nothing, just an empty hallway leading to her sister's room
- 2:54:19across the way. At the same time, her sister
- 2:54:23Angela is still investigating the sounds coming from within
- 2:54:27the walls of her room. The banging has become more
- 2:54:33rhythmic, more aggressive. It seems as if someone or
- 2:54:38something is trying to get her attention.
- 2:54:42The sounds have been moving around her room and trying to
- 2:54:46pinpoint its location. She walks up to the wall beside
- 2:54:50her dresser and slowly places her ear close to the wall to
- 2:54:55listen. The banging instead, has found
- 2:55:00her. With eyes wide, she steps back
- 2:55:04from the wall as the mysterious sound continues.
- 2:55:09Danin, meanwhile, unable to hear her sister's situation, closes
- 2:55:15her door and sits back on her bed.
- 2:55:19And almost as soon as she sits down, the knocking begins again.
- 2:55:24But this time it's shaking her entire tore.
- 2:55:29Scared, she rushes to put her head under her covers as each
- 2:55:34situation crescendos late into the night.
- 2:55:38The 2 poor girls are terrified and Needless to say, they don't
- 2:55:44end up getting much rest. The activity seems to cease at
- 2:55:50dawn the following morning as their mom serves them breakfast,
- 2:55:56she notices that her 2 girls look exhausted asking what was
- 2:56:01going on with them. She is soon met with a series of
- 2:56:05questions such as was she the one knocking on the walls or on
- 2:56:11their doors, was she walking all around the house and did she do
- 2:56:16these things all night long? Unsure of what to make of this,
- 2:56:20Jeanette hadn't heard anything throughout the night.
- 2:56:24She chalks it up to the girls dealing with the emotions of
- 2:56:27everything, moving homes and experiencing a new environment.
- 2:56:34She hoped that with due time they would warm up to the house
- 2:56:38and all would be well. The girls don't fully express
- 2:56:42their fear for lack of belief from their mom.
- 2:56:46So for this morning they continue to eat their breakfast
- 2:56:50together and try to move on to another topic as the girls go
- 2:56:55about their day. Jen would go upstairs to her
- 2:56:59girls rooms and investigate but would uncover nothing out of the
- 2:57:05ordinary. The renovations would continue
- 2:57:09and soon the firemen would find themselves within the basement
- 2:57:12of the home, described as unique with lots of debris.
- 2:57:18They demolish old boards and clear things out.
- 2:57:23As work toils on, the girls examine the backyard.
- 2:57:27They've never seen an area so big and although it's freezing
- 2:57:32outside, they've opted to explore.
- 2:57:36However, they began to discover some strange things about their
- 2:57:40new playground. They first noticed strange
- 2:57:43symbols carved into numerous trees on the property.
- 2:57:48Unsure of what to make of this as kids do, they use their
- 2:57:52imaginations. They decide that they want to
- 2:57:55design a map to help them hide things.
- 2:57:59They will use these stars, as they call them, as markers on
- 2:58:04their map. The two continue to explore and
- 2:58:08soon make another even stranger discovery.
- 2:58:12What appears to be several chipped bones tied together with
- 2:58:16a lace like material is dangling from a low hanging branch of one
- 2:58:22of the trees. Thinking it was really weird,
- 2:58:26but again unsure of what to make of it, the two continue to play
- 2:58:33as previous items, debris and old demolition waste is removed
- 2:58:38from the basement. Those firefighters volunteering
- 2:58:42soon make a discovery of their own.
- 2:58:45There, underneath the old floorboards etched into the
- 2:58:50concrete below, is an inverted pentagram.
- 2:58:54They soon call Jen to take a look, curious as to just what it
- 2:58:59could be. She comes down and sees it for
- 2:59:03the first time. As she glances at it, she begins
- 2:59:08to feel sick to her stomach. She instructs the men that she
- 2:59:13would like it covered back up, that she didn't want the girls
- 2:59:17to see it. The men would agree and simply
- 2:59:21lay new concrete over it. This way, her girls will never
- 2:59:26even know that it was there. The girls, however, still
- 2:59:30playing outside in their winter Wonderland, soon make yet
- 2:59:35another discovery. They begin to find several more
- 2:59:39stars made out of bones upon the ground.
- 2:59:44Thinking this was part of some game, they soon incorporate them
- 2:59:48into their play as well The innocence of the child.
- 2:59:56Several days later, Jen has returned to work and has left
- 3:00:02Angela in charge of her younger sister.
- 3:00:05Angela has also been tasked with cleaning up the house as she
- 3:00:11makes her way around checking off her list.
- 3:00:14She feels as if she's not alone. She keeps looking over her
- 3:00:19shoulder but nothing seems to be there.
- 3:00:24Turning once again to get back to cleaning, within seconds she
- 3:00:29hears an ear shattering noise. Her eyes shoot to the origin of
- 3:00:35where she believed the sound had come from, and the poor girl
- 3:00:40can't believe what she's seeing. The entire kitchen has been
- 3:00:44flipped upside down, pans and dishes thrown out of their
- 3:00:50cabinets. Silverware that was inside the
- 3:00:53drawer is now all over the place.
- 3:00:57Not knowing what else to do, she screams and flees.
- 3:01:03Hours later, Jen, upon arriving home from work, walks into an
- 3:01:09eerily quiet house in her own words.
- 3:01:14When I walked inside, everything was very quiet.
- 3:01:19I glanced into the kitchen and every cabinet, every drawer was
- 3:01:24emptied. The place looked like it had
- 3:01:27been ransacked. I called out for Angela but got
- 3:01:32no response, thinking her daughter had had a tantrum of
- 3:01:37sorts. Jing goes on the hunt for Angela
- 3:01:40after not receiving a verbal response from her.
- 3:01:44Running up the stairs, she finds her holding a stuffed animal and
- 3:01:50staring blankly ahead in her room.
- 3:01:54When confronted, Angela tells her mother what had happened and
- 3:01:59thankfully Jen believes her. She recognizes the sincerity in
- 3:02:04her child's eyes and voice. The following day, when both of
- 3:02:10the children are out, Jen greets a few workers down in the
- 3:02:14basement who are putting the finishing touches on things.
- 3:02:19One of them had found something while working.
- 3:02:23It was several old looking pieces of paper tied together
- 3:02:28with some kind of white lace. Handing the papers to Jen, she
- 3:02:33begins to unfurl the pages. The opening date goes back to
- 3:02:38the year 1927, the year that the home was originally built.
- 3:02:45Scouring the pages For more information from what she
- 3:02:49gathers, Jen makes out that the person who wrote this diary of
- 3:02:54sorts seems to be a young girl, perhaps the daughter of someone
- 3:03:00who had lived at the house in the past.
- 3:03:03As she continues to read, she finds out that the girl's name
- 3:03:07was Christina, and Christina's story took a rather dark turn
- 3:03:15within the diary. She began to describe how her
- 3:03:19father would hurt animals upon A star in the basement, and the
- 3:03:26descriptions became darker and more graphic as the pages
- 3:03:32progressed. Disturbed by what she had just
- 3:03:35read, Jen decides that no one needs to know about what went on
- 3:03:40here. That if the things written were
- 3:03:43true. But the past tenants were very
- 3:03:47sick people and she, now living there, wanted to wash her hands
- 3:03:53of all of their doings and pretend, essentially, that
- 3:03:57nothing happened in this place that her and her children now
- 3:04:01call home. And who can blame her?
- 3:04:04Except some things don't stay buried.
- 3:04:09The following day, as Jen is cleaning house, she is suddenly
- 3:04:14startled by a massive boom that rocks the entire house.
- 3:04:20Shocked initially by the unexpected blast, she realizes
- 3:04:24that it's coming from the basement below her.
- 3:04:28Worried that something had exploded, she apprehensively
- 3:04:33makes her way to the door with flashlight in hand slowly begins
- 3:04:39her dissension down the stairs. Reaching the concrete floor she
- 3:04:45scans the room for any signs of what could potentially have
- 3:04:50caused the commotion. Stepping forward and peering
- 3:04:54around her flashlight suddenly dies Gin and begins to feel as
- 3:05:02if the oxygen in the room. She's being consumed at a rapid
- 3:05:07pace and an overwhelming sense of dread begins to overtake her.
- 3:05:13Running up the stairs as fast as she can and slamming the door
- 3:05:18behind her, she felt as if she was in the presence of pure
- 3:05:23evil. Still worried and not knowing if
- 3:05:27it was something to do with the plumbing or what have you, Jen
- 3:05:31needs to address the potential cause but is too frightened to
- 3:05:35continue, so she lays it on the back burner, so to speak.
- 3:05:41Later that night, after she's fed the family dinner, Jen is
- 3:05:45busy cleaning up while Angela is in her room and Danine is taking
- 3:05:51a shower. Angela, who had been sitting on
- 3:05:54her bed and reading a magazine, suddenly begins to hear the
- 3:06:00faintest of whispers. It sounds like multiple people
- 3:06:04whispering at once from a distance.
- 3:06:08Perplexed, the child gets up and attempts to seek the origin of
- 3:06:14where these mysterious whispers are coming from.
- 3:06:18As she steps towards her door, the whispers are louder to the
- 3:06:23point to where some discernment is possible.
- 3:06:27The whispering seems to be a back and forth conversation
- 3:06:31amongst 2 people, but in a very secretive manner.
- 3:06:36Sounding like it's just outside of her door, Angela throws the
- 3:06:40door open only to reveal nothing but the hallway, and as she does
- 3:06:47this, the whispers simultaneously cease.
- 3:06:53Perplexed further, she closes the door and begins to head back
- 3:06:58to her bed, but the whispers start again.
- 3:07:02Heading back towards the door, she listens in on the 2 again,
- 3:07:07and this time she begins to hear the name of her sister mentioned
- 3:07:13in this secretive conversation. Meanwhile, as Angela is having
- 3:07:18her own experience, the neem who is showering began to have her
- 3:07:24own experience as well, feeling as if she was being watched.
- 3:07:29Trying to shake the feeling off, she tries to finish her shower,
- 3:07:35but hearing the bathroom door creak open puts the poor girl on
- 3:07:39edge. Calling out of the steam tinted
- 3:07:42glass asking if it was her mother or Angela who had entered
- 3:07:47the bathroom, she is soon met with something horrifying.
- 3:07:53Although blurred by the steam on the glass, she sees the
- 3:07:57silhouette, a large creature. This thing appeared to have
- 3:08:02pointed ears and grotesque features.
- 3:08:07The scared young woman is reduced to terror in the corner
- 3:08:11of the shower, screaming for her mother.
- 3:08:16Across the hallway upstairs, Angela, who had overheard what
- 3:08:21sounded like two people whispering about her sister,
- 3:08:25pulls the door open when she hears her sister's cries and
- 3:08:29rushes towards the bathroom. At the same time, Jen also runs
- 3:08:35upstairs, startled by the cries of her daughter.
- 3:08:39They try to open the bathroom door, but it won't budget.
- 3:08:44It seemingly locks from the other side as the women
- 3:08:48frantically try to get inside to save Damin.
- 3:08:52She continues to scream for them as this creature presses its
- 3:08:57face and hand against the glass, unveiling black rotting skin,
- 3:09:06yellow eyes, and sharp teeth. Finally, the door opens as if
- 3:09:13the unseen hands keeping it closed vanished.
- 3:09:18Rushing inside to assist the poor girl, they find her shaking
- 3:09:23with the shower still running. Turning off the water and
- 3:09:27placing a towel on her, Jane quickly gets all of them out of
- 3:09:31the bathroom. But now as they stand in the
- 3:09:35hallway, all of the doors within the home that were open close on
- 3:09:40their own. Simultaneously, a dark demonic
- 3:09:46chanting begins to fill the house as it grows louder and
- 3:09:53more oppressive, as if some abomination from their worst
- 3:09:58nightmare was inching ever closer.
- 3:10:01The fear amongst them exponentially grows.
- 3:10:06Running to Jen's bedroom, opening the door and rushing
- 3:10:10inside before closing the door behind them to barricade
- 3:10:15themselves from whatever was approaching.
- 3:10:18Jen holds the door shut in case Whatever this thing is tries to
- 3:10:24come inside with. All three of them, in hysterical
- 3:10:28tears, begin to cry for their father, Jen's husband, their
- 3:10:34slain protector. Something begins to slam into
- 3:10:38the door, trying to break it down as the noise outside
- 3:10:43intensifies. All three of them are
- 3:10:47desperately calling out for Curtis, although they don't feel
- 3:10:51his presence. Just as quickly as it had begun,
- 3:10:56the evil outside of the door and all of its chaos abruptly stop.
- 3:11:04The following day, desperate to talk to someone but feeling like
- 3:11:09she'd be judged for being crazy, Jen contemplates who she can
- 3:11:15confide in. A longtime friend of her husband
- 3:11:19named Tony had been there for her and the girls since
- 3:11:23everything had happened. If anyone was going to believe
- 3:11:27her, it would be him. So she gives him a call.
- 3:11:33Within 1/2 hour. He arrives at the house after
- 3:11:37sitting down together at the kitchen table.
- 3:11:40Jen explains everything to him, from the discovery of the
- 3:11:44pentagram in the basement to what they've been experiencing,
- 3:11:49and especially the horror that had taken place just the night
- 3:11:54before. After hearing Jin's synopsis,
- 3:11:59Tony decides to go into the basement to take a look around.
- 3:12:04After guiding him to the door, Jin refuses to go down with him,
- 3:12:09so after being handed a flashlight, Tony descends the
- 3:12:13stairs alone. In his own words, he didn't fear
- 3:12:17much in life. The wall in the basement.
- 3:12:21He couldn't help but get the feeling that something was
- 3:12:24watching him, as if there was an oppressive atmosphere of sorts.
- 3:12:30He had trouble breathing and wanted to get out of there as
- 3:12:33soon as he could. Suddenly, as he walks around, he
- 3:12:39is spooked by the sound of a door rattling.
- 3:12:44As he approaches the door, the rattling continues, further
- 3:12:49unnerving Tony. Not wanting to delay the
- 3:12:53inevitable, he decides to throw the door open, and when he does,
- 3:13:00he reveals an empty room. There's absolutely nothing
- 3:13:05physically there. Already freaked out, he steps
- 3:13:09outside of the small room that the door concealed, and the
- 3:13:13moment that he gets outside of the doorway, the door itself
- 3:13:19slam shut. It was with this extra action
- 3:13:23that Tony decides it's time for him to get the hell out of
- 3:13:26there. Tony, who had worked over 25
- 3:13:30years as a corrections officer, truly feared very little, but
- 3:13:35what he had experienced down in that basement that day rattled
- 3:13:39him to the core. He explains what happened to
- 3:13:43Jen, but decides to leave shortly after the experience,
- 3:13:48moving forward to try and ease one another.
- 3:13:52While someone was showering, they decided to post someone
- 3:13:55outside of the door to keep the other company in case anything
- 3:14:00else happened. And interestingly, I've had to
- 3:14:04do the same thing in one of the homes that I lived in that was
- 3:14:08haunted, but that's a story for another day.
- 3:14:12But just so you know, I know exactly how they felt.
- 3:14:17With all of their money tied up in the house, Jen is desperate
- 3:14:21to try and find some kind of solution.
- 3:14:24Not a very religious person, but going on what she knew, she
- 3:14:29decides to call the Catholic Church for help.
- 3:14:33The following day, a priest arrives to assess the situation,
- 3:14:38conduct a blessing for the family.
- 3:14:40He not only agrees that there is something evil within the home,
- 3:14:44but strategizes with Jen on how to try and get rid of whatever
- 3:14:49this thing was. He conducts a blessing of the
- 3:14:52home, but also believes that it's important for Jen to find
- 3:14:57her inner faith and conduct blessings on a regular basis
- 3:15:02herself. So he provides her with gallons
- 3:15:07worth of holy water since the property is rather large, in
- 3:15:11which she places into spray bottles to try and cover every
- 3:15:15square inch of the home during these blessings.
- 3:15:20One night after conducting her blessing, Angela would become
- 3:15:25fairly withdrawn given the stress and trauma of the
- 3:15:29situation she found herself in. Went outside to the swing set
- 3:15:34they had in their backyard. With it being night time, Jen
- 3:15:39decides to keep an eye on her using the cameras that she had
- 3:15:43previously installed. As Angela contemplates life and
- 3:15:48swings by herself, it soon becomes apparent that she is not
- 3:15:54alone. Jen, who was occasionally
- 3:15:57looking up at the laptop screen where the cameras were being
- 3:16:01monitored, soon sees something strange surrounding Angela.
- 3:16:09Out of nowhere were several dark hooded figures.
- 3:16:15Jen, whose heart had felt as if it was going to explode, rushes
- 3:16:20as fast as she can towards the back door and towards her
- 3:16:24daughter's location. Angela was unaware of the
- 3:16:29figures her mother had seen had been keeping us steady normal
- 3:16:34pace on the swing set when suddenly she is thrust out of
- 3:16:39her seat at a furious pace causing her to smack the snow
- 3:16:45packed ground incredibly hard. Upon impact she hears A
- 3:16:51horrendous crack. Crying out in pain and for her
- 3:16:55mother, Angela is greeted by Jen who begins to throw holy water
- 3:17:01all around where the 2 are screaming and cursing at the
- 3:17:06figures who had hurt her daughter.
- 3:17:09Scrambling to get her to their vehicle as fast as she can, Jen
- 3:17:13then drives her immediately to the hospital.
- 3:17:17Upon arrival and examination, they discover that her foot and
- 3:17:21ankle are shattered. The following day, after
- 3:17:25returning from the hospital, Angela now wears a boot on her
- 3:17:29leg and is forced to stay in bed, further isolating her and
- 3:17:35keeping her within the confines of the house.
- 3:17:39Things seem to be relatively OK during the day, but when the sun
- 3:17:43goes down, the home begins to come alive. 19, Incapacitated in
- 3:17:50her room and with Jen out running errands with her sister.
- 3:17:55Jen is alone on her bed. It's lightly snowing outside and
- 3:18:00the moonlight is peeking through her blinds.
- 3:18:04She begins to hear a faint knocking noise originating from
- 3:18:09her closet. Looking over, she notices her
- 3:18:13mirror looks strange, almost liquid.
- 3:18:18She then sees something that strikes absolute fear into her
- 3:18:23soul. A charred, black clawed hand
- 3:18:28begins emerging from her mirror, slowly and menacingly, coming
- 3:18:35out more and more. Beginning to scream.
- 3:18:41Angela does the only thing that she can do because she can't
- 3:18:45physically run away. Not only is her foot broken, but
- 3:18:50the mirror is right in front of her door.
- 3:18:53She quickly throws herself onto the floor and rolls underneath
- 3:18:57her bed, pinning herself as far back against the wall as she
- 3:19:02possibly can. The smell of decay fills the
- 3:19:07entire room as a creature slowly comes out of the mirror.
- 3:19:13From Angela's perspective, all she can see now is the gnarled
- 3:19:18feet of this entity as it steps towards the bed.
- 3:19:23Angela, grasping the home phone, frantically begins to dial her
- 3:19:28mother's number. On the other end, Jen picks up.
- 3:19:34She had been at the grocery store, but upon hearing her
- 3:19:37daughter screams, she leaves everything and immediately
- 3:19:42rushes towards the house. But she is 45 minutes away,
- 3:19:48pleading with her daughter to pray as she speeds on the slick
- 3:19:52roads, desperately trying to get home.
- 3:19:55She then hears A horrendous scream, something unearthly
- 3:20:01unlike anything she had ever heard before on the other end.
- 3:20:06And then the phone call drops. Angela, who had been uttering
- 3:20:13Hell Mary while on the phone with her mother, was suddenly
- 3:20:16met face to face with a demon. After rushing home as fast as
- 3:20:22she could, Jen opens the door to a dark and silent house.
- 3:20:28All the lights are off and she doesn't hear anyone or anything.
- 3:20:35Running up the stairs to Angela's room, she doesn't see
- 3:20:39her. With tears streaming down her
- 3:20:41face, she fears that the worst has happened, that whatever this
- 3:20:47horror was had hurt her daughter.
- 3:20:51She then hears the faintest whimper coming from underneath
- 3:20:55the bed. It's Angela.
- 3:20:58She's so weak and feeble that Jen has to drag her out from
- 3:21:02underneath the bed, relocating the girls to her room.
- 3:21:07Jen then searches for help online.
- 3:21:10She knows that her and the girls deserve a future, and at this
- 3:21:15rate, one of them may end up hurt again or worse.
- 3:21:20She discovers the number of a paranormal investigator by the
- 3:21:24name of Liz, calling the number out of desperation at
- 3:21:29approximately 3:00 in the morning.
- 3:21:31At this point, surprisingly, Liz picks up on the other end.
- 3:21:36After hearing Jen's harrowing story, she decides that she
- 3:21:40wants to help her and her family.
- 3:21:43Having researched the paranormal for over 15 years, she believes
- 3:21:48that she must conduct a cleansing of the home.
- 3:21:52So within several hours, shortly after Daybreak, Liz arrives
- 3:21:58accompanied by her friend and colleague, a woman who was a
- 3:22:02psychic medium by the name of Don Jolie.
- 3:22:07As soon as the ladies greet Jen at her door and step inside, Don
- 3:22:13begins to receive flashes of the past.
- 3:22:17She quickly believes that Colts conducted many rituals within
- 3:22:22the home, specifically in the basement, information that she
- 3:22:27had not been given ahead of time.
- 3:22:30She believes that these dark Colts communicated with and
- 3:22:34purposefully conjured demonic entities, that the recent
- 3:22:39renovations had disturbed all the energy within the home.
- 3:22:43And on a side note, ironically, I also have experienced this as
- 3:22:48far as renovations disturbing any energy that can be within a
- 3:22:52home. But again, I'll share this at
- 3:22:55another time. After discussing what she
- 3:22:58believed to have happened within the house, the ladies decide to
- 3:23:02lay a circle of salt around the property.
- 3:23:04The idea being that it forms a barrier of sorts that no spirit
- 3:23:09can cross in or out of. To Jin, this was the beginning
- 3:23:15of the final showdown with these malevolent forces.
- 3:23:21After laying the circle whilst praying, the three head back
- 3:23:25inside where they light several bundles of sage.
- 3:23:29The three of them then, room by room, bless and cleanse,
- 3:23:36allowing the sage smoke to fill the air.
- 3:23:40Slowly but surely. They do this for the entire
- 3:23:44house until they ultimately reach the basement, the apparent
- 3:23:50epicenter and the origin of the demonic activity.
- 3:23:55Together they descend the stairs, their chance of prayer
- 3:24:00filling the sage saturated air. Continuing throughout the
- 3:24:05basement, they began to hear what Jen and the children had
- 3:24:09previously heard. The loud chants, something in a
- 3:24:14language that they couldn't understand.
- 3:24:17And with each flick of holy water and prayer cast, they soon
- 3:24:23also begin to hear screams accompanying the chanting.
- 3:24:27The whole episode slowly is reaching a crescendo.
- 3:24:33They finally approached the last space yet to be cleansed, the
- 3:24:37small room concealed by a door, the very same room that Tony had
- 3:24:45had his experience in. The door once again begins to
- 3:24:51violently shake. Wanting to finally end this, Jen
- 3:24:57approaches the door and throws it open, allowing the sage smoke
- 3:25:03to infiltrate the last remaining air of the home.
- 3:25:07All the three women prayed and flicked holy water into the
- 3:25:11space. Suddenly, flames erupted from
- 3:25:16the floor, revealing a screaming, charred demonic
- 3:25:22figure within, but only for the briefest of moments.
- 3:25:29Almost as soon as the screams were finished, leaving the
- 3:25:32women's mouths upon the side of this creature, the fire would
- 3:25:38extinguish and this long battle with the demonic would finally
- 3:25:45be over. The cleansing conducted by Liz
- 3:25:49and Dawn was indeed successful and her daughter still live in
- 3:25:54the home to this day. It just goes to show that evil
- 3:25:58forces that dwell just beyond the veil of this world have
- 3:26:03nothing but contempt for us. No tragedy, no sorrow can be
- 3:26:09grounds to be left alone, but rather they use these as
- 3:26:15exploits ways to weaken, attack and consume those who are the
- 3:26:22most vulnerable. This family banded together and
- 3:26:27we're able to overcome the terror of the demonic, and for
- 3:26:31that I commend them. Just goes to show that love
- 3:26:37truly does conquer hate.
