- 0:01Speaker 1: Man, it's that time of year where we've got playoff baseball.
- 0:05Speaker 1: I'm about to tell you a stat right here. Starting
- 0:07Speaker 1: October 1st. When is October 1st? Do I need research
- 0:11Speaker 1: on that, Brooks? October 1st.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Is that tomorrow? Tomorrow? Locktober. Tomorrow starts not only Locktober
- 0:17Speaker 2: with LanceIsLock.com. 15 hours out. It starts 61 consecutive days
- 0:23Speaker 2: of football. 61 consecutive days of football starts tomorrow. What
- 0:28Speaker 2: do we get midweek, Mac? Mac, Sunbelt, Funbelt. All the
- 0:34Speaker 2: Monday night, Thursday night NFL. So tomorrow starts 61 straight
- 0:39Speaker 2: days of football every day. And we've got this overlap
- 0:43Speaker 2: of baseball, which is fun. There used to be an
- 0:45Speaker 2: old TV show called Match Game, where I will say
- 0:49Speaker 2: something and try to get somebody to match the word
- 0:53Speaker 2: exactly that I have written down right here. But you
- 0:55Speaker 2: can't use that word. No, I can't use this word.
- 0:57Speaker 2: So you've got it written down? But if I said
- 1:00Speaker 2: the word Odell Beckham best landing spot, where would you
- 1:06Speaker 2: say Odell Beckham's best landing spot is? Probably Baltimore.
- 1:10Speaker 3: Baltimore.
- 1:11Speaker 2: You should say Rams. You don't want Odell Beckham?
- 1:15Speaker 1: You know, I will tell you, when he came in
- 1:17Speaker 1: as a hired gun in 2021, he was really good
- 1:20Speaker 1: down the stretch. And you guys will remember he scored
- 1:22Speaker 1: a first-half touchdown in Super Bowl 56.
- 1:25Speaker 2: I do remember that. Right, right, right.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Then he tears his ACL in the second quarter. If
- 1:31Speaker 1: he doesn't tear his ACL, the Rams win that game
- 1:34Speaker 1: going away. And it ended up being a great Super Bowl,
- 1:36Speaker 1: and the Rams ended up winning on a final drive.
- 1:38Speaker 1: But Odell was really, really good then. I don't know
- 1:40Speaker 1: what Odell still got in the tank.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Well, the Giants– Don't want him, so he's out there. Yeah,
- 1:45Speaker 2: he doesn't have enough in the tank for the Giants. Yeah,
- 1:47Speaker 2: they want J.J. McCarthy. That's right. We will do our
- 1:50Speaker 2: NFL power rankings coming up after we talk to Brandon Marcello,
- 1:54Speaker 2: who will join us with the college football news. Hour
- 1:57Speaker 2: two of the show to start at 11 Eastern, 10 Central.
- 2:01Speaker 2: But let's start off with that. It's a special time
- 2:03Speaker 2: of year. I see people complaining, what's Major League Baseball doing?
- 2:08Speaker 2: These day baseball games, it's unfair. Nobody can watch them.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Nobody can go to them, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 2:15Speaker 2: They've been doing this my entire life, and I've lived
- 2:18Speaker 2: a long life. Day baseball used to be fun when
- 2:22Speaker 2: we were in school. Elementary kids used to convince their
- 2:27Speaker 2: parents to to check them out of school to watch
- 2:30Speaker 2: day baseball playoffs back in the day. It was awesome.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Now, the problem is, can the parent convince the boss
- 2:36Speaker 1: to let them off of work to watch day baseball?
- 2:39Speaker 2: No, that's harder. Yeah, and that's where you get the complication.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I was at a sports bar watching some of the
- 2:44Speaker 1: day baseball yesterday, and I was talking to a big
- 2:46Speaker 1: Braves fan, and he said, you know, I just kind
- 2:49Speaker 1: of forget sometimes because there's so many games now in
- 2:52Speaker 1: the postseason. I mean, when you've got quadruple headers in
- 2:56Speaker 1: maybe three consecutive days, if these things go best of three,
- 2:59Speaker 1: if they're not up today, it is a lot. I
- 3:03Speaker 1: did enjoy it back as a kid. I still enjoy
- 3:05Speaker 1: it now, but it's just difficult. I mean, if you're
- 3:06Speaker 1: a Braves fan, you understand why the Yankees and the
- 3:10Speaker 1: Red Sox are primetime because of the numbers and those brands.
- 3:14Speaker 1: But it's like, flip this thing around a little bit.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Give us a favor. Put the Cubs and the Padres
- 3:18Speaker 1: at 3 o'clock. Find a way to get the Braves
- 3:25Speaker 1: and the Phillies a little later than back-to-back 1 o'clock.
- 3:29Speaker 2: I can remember this vividly because growing up in Anniston, Alabama,
- 3:35Speaker 2: for those that aren't familiar with the geography here, Anniston
- 3:38Speaker 2: is between Birmingham and Atlanta. So we've got some Birmingham
- 3:41Speaker 2: TV stations. some Atlanta TV stations occasionally, but in the South,
- 3:46Speaker 2: and I guess it's true anywhere, a lot of people
- 3:48Speaker 2: got WGN, right, the Cubs? That's right, yeah. We got
- 3:51Speaker 2: WOR out of Secaucus, New Jersey, so we got the Mets.
- 3:54Speaker 2: I got all three. I got TBS, WOR, WGN. So
- 3:57Speaker 2: we did not get WGN in Anniston, Alabama growing up.
- 4:00Speaker 2: That's why I was not exposed to Harry Carey and
- 4:01Speaker 2: the Cubs. That was kind of foreign to me, right?
- 4:04Speaker 2: But those 86 Mets were so good, I'd watch a
- 4:06Speaker 2: little bit of that with Gary Carter and Keith Hernandez
- 4:09Speaker 2: and all those guys. And I vividly remember the NLCS
- 4:11Speaker 2: had multiple afternoon games. Yeah.
- 4:14Speaker 4: Multiple.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Like, I mean, that's the NLCS where now that's prime
- 4:17Speaker 2: time or nothing. I mean, they had a lot of
- 4:19Speaker 2: afternoon games. No, they'll rotate even the NLCS. They'll try
- 4:23Speaker 2: not to play them back to back. So they'll have NLCS, ALCS, and.
- 4:28Speaker 2: There'll be some day baseballs as you go through until
- 4:30Speaker 2: you get to the World Series. That's just what you
- 4:32Speaker 2: have to do to.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Get the games in. You don't want to overlap them.
- 4:35Speaker 1: But if you love baseball, these next three days, I mean,
- 4:38Speaker 1: you've got it every minute of every hour.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Now, people were killing the Braves attendance yesterday. I don't
- 4:43Speaker 2: know if this is why you brought it up. Well,
- 4:44Speaker 2: I brought it up because I saw a lot of
- 4:45Speaker 2: Braves fans saying– Rob Manfred doesn't understand. You're screwing the
- 4:50Speaker 2: Braves fans. There shouldn't be. All these games should not be.
- 4:54Speaker 2: You shouldn't have games in the day. All the games
- 4:56Speaker 2: should be at night. And they want to overlap because
- 4:59Speaker 2: you only care about the Braves. Well, Major League Baseball
- 5:02Speaker 2: wants everybody to watch all of them. Right. And you
- 5:04Speaker 2: knew Red Sox Yankees was going to be the primetime game.
- 5:07Speaker 2: I mean, let's be real about this.
- 5:09Speaker 5: Hey, by the way, the Astros players are killing the
- 5:13Speaker 5: attendance by Astros fans, too.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Oh, so the players are on it.
- 5:18Speaker 5: One of the pitchers last night was criticizing, hey, if
- 5:20Speaker 5: this was in Chicago, this place would be, you know,
- 5:23Speaker 5: loud as hell.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Well, if I'm a fan, I'm like, you guys have
- 5:25Speaker 1: lost eight straight postseason games at home, so why.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Don't you give me a little better product?
- 5:29Speaker 1: And by the way, baseball gods, the karma, paying them
- 5:32Speaker 1: back for 2017.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Astros are an 81-and-81 regular season team. You guys be better.
- 5:36Speaker 2: We'll get excited about coming out. You guys are one
- 5:38Speaker 2: of the worst Astro teams in my lifetime is what
- 5:41Speaker 2: they're saying.
- 5:41Speaker 1: The best game by far was Braves-Phillies. I mean, Austin Riley,
- 5:45Speaker 1: a three-run shot in the eighth.
- 5:46Speaker 2: I thought they were dead in the water. That's what
- 5:48Speaker 2: we're getting to, the actual games on the fields. But
- 5:50Speaker 2: the Braves fans were upset about all these day games.
- 5:52Speaker 2: But yesterday, it was one of the clutch hits. Austin's
- 5:55Speaker 2: season has sucked. It's been his worst hitting season of
- 5:59Speaker 2: his career. Didn't he hit 217? To the point they—
- 6:04Speaker 2: Not hitting his weight. To the point, yes, exactly right.
- 6:06Speaker 2: To the point they've wondered about Austin Riley's future. Well,
- 6:10Speaker 2: here you are.
- 6:11Speaker 1: You're down with two outs. You're down three runs in
- 6:14Speaker 1: the bottom of the eighth. You're down to four outs.
- 6:17Speaker 1: And it looked like the Phillies may have a path
- 6:20Speaker 1: to victory. And then he jacks one into the seats.
- 6:23Speaker 1: And they win the game. And now, Braves fans, as.
- 6:27Speaker 2: You get ready for game two today, the winner of the–
- 6:31Speaker 2: since we started these little mini division series best of
- 6:34Speaker 2: three back in 2022, the winners of game one are
- 6:38Speaker 2: 15-1 to win the series. Yeah. I mean, that was
- 6:40Speaker 2: the Phillies' chance. They really needed to grab that. They
- 6:43Speaker 2: had it in their hand. Good for you.
- 6:46Speaker 1: I don't look at the chat, but I'm sure the
- 6:48Speaker 1: chat would have blown.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Your ass up today. I would have started quick. We'll
- 6:51Speaker 2: save it for the start of the next round, part two,
- 6:55Speaker 2: hour number three today. But I'll ask the question of
- 6:58Speaker 2: Braves fans. What do you want me to do today?
- 7:00Speaker 2: You make my play for me. Do you want me
- 7:02Speaker 2: to double down on my Braves? You were 2-0 yesterday, right?
- 7:06Speaker 2: I was 2-0 with my Braves fans yesterday. Or do
- 7:09Speaker 2: you want me to go Phillies so you can think
- 7:11Speaker 2: the landmines on the Phillies? I'll ask that question coming.
- 7:14Speaker 6: Up later on.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Braves fans listening out, think your way through it. Think
- 7:16Speaker 2: your way through this. You've got until 11 o'clock Central
- 7:18Speaker 2: to answer this question. I just get a read that
- 7:20Speaker 2: you like the Braves again today. Just think through it,
- 7:23Speaker 2: Braves fans. Don't tip your hand, Jim. I don't have
- 7:25Speaker 2: a feel on that game. Jim's calling the game. I
- 7:29Speaker 2: don't have that feel today. I may do no baseball today.
- 7:31Speaker 2: I tripled up on the Yankees and Red Sox.
- 7:34Speaker 1: I should have been 3-1. We were 2-2 yesterday because
- 7:37Speaker 1: we had that under. I was telling you it was
- 7:39Speaker 1: going to be a great pitcher's duel. which it started
- 7:42Speaker 1: out a great pitcher's.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Rule, and then Austin Riley ruined the whole thing. Yeah,
- 7:45Speaker 2: ruined the whole thing. Forrester's White Sox, he had to
- 7:49Speaker 2: buy a subscription. I mean, people complain about Dave Baseball.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Imagine being a White Sox fan, and you had to
- 7:57Speaker 2: do what yesterday, Forrester?
- 7:59Speaker 5: I had to pay $ 13 to get Peacock for a month.
- 8:02Speaker 2: But I told Scott. Wait, what happened? I thought you
- 8:04Speaker 2: were going to give me your sign-in. It turns out
- 8:07Speaker 2: in a financial move, we canceled Peacock. And when I
- 8:13Speaker 2: finally got a hold of Maggie, I was like, hey,
- 8:14Speaker 2: don't worry now. You know, Forrester's on life support. I
- 8:18Speaker 2: was going to give it to you when I got home.
- 8:19Speaker 2: And I was like, it's a day baseball game. And
- 8:21Speaker 2: they play playoffs in the day.
- 8:24Speaker 7: Wow.
- 8:25Speaker 2: They do indeed. They do indeed. I told Forrester, I
- 8:27Speaker 2: think $ 13 is well, well worth it to see your
- 8:32Speaker 2: team advance to the postseason, assuming the White Sox do that.
- 8:34Speaker 2: I'd pay $ 13.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Scott.
- 8:37Speaker 2: I'd pay $ 13 to watch the Dolphins win a regular
- 8:39Speaker 2: season game right now.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Not shade, but fact. I mean, your first postseason win
- 8:44Speaker 1: in five years.
- 8:45Speaker 5: I wouldn't pay $ 0. 13 to watch the Falcons right now.
- 8:48Speaker 2: You shouldn't. I don't know, man. Now they got an
- 8:51Speaker 2: NFL quarterback.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Anyway, the Sox you had got on your side, Pope Leo,
- 8:56Speaker 1: send a letter of encouragement.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Destiny. He blessed your team. White Sox win, Padres blow
- 9:03Speaker 2: out the Cubs. A little surprising on that one last night.
- 9:07Speaker 2: But the Yankees win as well. I've watched so much
- 9:09Speaker 2: baseball during the regular season. I told Brown before, I
- 9:12Speaker 2: didn't even know who Cam Schlittler is, and he went
- 9:16Speaker 2: out there and he's their ace. He's your Cy Young
- 9:19Speaker 2: this year. He could be MVP. They were chanting MVP.
- 9:22Speaker 1: He has a 97% chance to win the Cy Young.
- 9:25Speaker 2: That's good. Yeah. Who's got that other 3%? Dylan Cease. Okay.
- 9:31Speaker 1: I think this thing is over. I think that was
- 9:33Speaker 1: an exclamation last night. I just get worn out with it.
- 9:37Speaker 1: And I know we don't see it 18 times or
- 9:39Speaker 1: 19 times now. It's dialed back a little bit with
- 9:41Speaker 1: more early.
- 9:42Speaker 2: It feels like we still do, though.
- 9:44Speaker 1: I think we see it 14 times in the regular season.
- 9:46Speaker 2: I think that's right. Yeah, every one of them is,
- 9:48Speaker 2: you know, whatever network is doing a game, the Friday, Saturday, Sunday,
- 9:52Speaker 2: they're all going to do that Yankees-Red Sox.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Yeah, and then we've got to see videos and social
- 9:55Speaker 1: media of all their fans bitching and complaining.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. brings you the show, Hard Rock Bet.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Give me Brooks' microphone. He sent us something yesterday, but
- 10:05Speaker 2: it was after our two hours here on Sporting State.
- 10:08Speaker 2: The reason I started with Braves today is this little
- 10:12Speaker 2: fact right here. Brooks, somebody's got something special going on
- 10:16Speaker 2: at Hard Rock Bet right now.
- 10:18Speaker 6: Yeah, so a Florida customer put down $ 1 on a
- 10:21Speaker 6: 20-leg parlay. $ 1?! Correct.
- 10:26Speaker 2: What will this pay? This is so done away right here.
- 10:28Speaker 2: I don't know. 20 legs.
- 10:29Speaker 6: He is currently 19 for 19 on the first 19
- 10:33Speaker 6: of the 20 legs.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Let's go. 19 of 19. What's this payout, Brooks? Do
- 10:37Speaker 2: you know?
- 10:37Speaker 7: It pays out $ 82, 590.
- 10:38Speaker 8: 70.
- 10:38Speaker 6: This is where he's saying, how did I not go $ 10?
- 10:40Speaker 6: $ 1 and it pays out what?
- 10:42Speaker 5: $ 82, 590. 70.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Okay. I want to look at the heavy lifting this
- 10:44Speaker 2: guy has done. He started week zero.
- 10:55Speaker 1: And he has got about every sport you can imagine
- 10:57Speaker 1: grouped in on this thing.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, lots of NASCAR. Yeah, I mean, four NASCARs
- 11:00Speaker 2: in there. So he rolled... I mean, just random NASCARs.
- 11:04Speaker 2: As I look at this, he is working his ass off. Yeah.
- 11:06Speaker 2: South Carolina State over Florida A & M.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Washington, Washington State, which was scary for a while, if
- 11:13Speaker 1: I remember.
- 11:13Speaker 6: Do you think the Florida A & M, he's a
- 11:15Speaker 6: Florida customer, and remember Hard Rock Bad is legal in Florida.
- 11:18Speaker 2: I wonder if that book is the only one that
- 11:20Speaker 2: offered that. It's just random.
- 11:21Speaker 1: He bought Washington down. Washington went off as a 19-point favorite.
- 11:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 11:27Speaker 4: Uab to beat louisiana monroe yeah love more but that's
- 11:32Speaker 4: a scary pick that is.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Random way to way to jump in there uh let's
- 11:35Speaker 2: see the nascar.
- 11:37Speaker 7: Tyler clearly hasn't seen the warhawks play football.
- 11:39Speaker 4: This year no but i saw uab last year and
- 11:42Speaker 4: i no matter how much the improvement if this wasn't
- 11:45Speaker 4: such an ethical book like hard rock i would doubt
- 11:48Speaker 4: this a little bit but i know the hard rock
- 11:50Speaker 4: guys are up and up and legitimate Yeah.
- 11:52Speaker 1: But to your point, the hard part here is Christopher Bell,
- 11:56Speaker 1: group B winner at the Southern 500.
- 11:57Speaker 2: The whole NASCAR race. He predicted all four groups correctly.
- 12:01Speaker 2: All four group stage winners. He Rubik's cubed that thing.
- 12:03Speaker 2: I mean, how hard is that to do? That's the
- 12:05Speaker 2: most impressive part of this. Yeah. And then Louisville over
- 12:09Speaker 2: Ole Miss.
- 12:10Speaker 1: The point-wise, Ole Miss to win the game straight out, though,
- 12:13Speaker 1: so he's threading needles.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Notre Dame, Florida State to cover against SMU. All the
- 12:18Speaker 2: way down through there, as Tyler mentioned, UAB beating La Moreau.
- 12:21Speaker 2: which isn't the wildest thing on here. Ball State to
- 12:24Speaker 2: beat Stony Brook. Yeah.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Like his ass has got to dig to find out
- 12:28Speaker 1: the final scores.
- 12:30Speaker 7: I didn't know that Stony Brook had football.
- 12:32Speaker 2: App State plus the points versus East Carolina.
- 12:35Speaker 1: What streaming service do you have to get to find
- 12:37Speaker 1: some of these guys? I don't know, but hey, he
- 12:39Speaker 1: knew that Alex Mortensen had something special brewing here in Birmingham.
- 12:42Speaker 2: But there's one left, and that's the Atlanta Braves to
- 12:45Speaker 2: win the World Series. I ain't going to wipe his
- 12:48Speaker 2: ass with this thing.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:51Speaker 2: I was telling Brooks yesterday... This guy might find you, Jim.
- 12:53Speaker 1: When he showed it to me, you know, he could
- 12:55Speaker 1: sell this ticket pretty easily. I was going to ask
- 12:57Speaker 1: you that. Will Hard Rock Bet buy it back from him?
- 12:59Speaker 1: I don't know if Hard Rock Bet would. There are
- 13:01Speaker 1: other people out there. There was a website where you
- 13:03Speaker 1: could actually sell some of your tickets, depending on... I mean,
- 13:06Speaker 1: there's a probability formula out there. I would think paying
- 13:09Speaker 1: $ 82, 000 for a dollar, I bet somebody would give him
- 13:11Speaker 1: a couple of thousand bucks for it.
- 13:13Speaker 2: I mean, but Hard Rock... Just on the chance of
- 13:15Speaker 2: the Braves. Because, you know, if the Dodgers are going
- 13:18Speaker 2: to lose... Who's going to beat them? It could be
- 13:21Speaker 2: the Braves. Yeah. I personally believe the Braves are the
- 13:24Speaker 2: only team that can beat them. I'll tell you, I'm
- 13:27Speaker 2: with Barry. This might be proof of time travel. Like,
- 13:29Speaker 2: if the Braves win this World Series, this guy cashes
- 13:31Speaker 2: this thing. He had the almanac? He had the almanac.
- 13:35Speaker 2: I mean, he's biffing Back to the Future 2. I
- 13:38Speaker 2: just can't believe I don't watch the Southern 500. Is
- 13:41Speaker 2: that Darlington, Jim? That is Darlington. That would seem impossible, though,
- 13:46Speaker 2: to pick. It does. By groups, that's not stages, right? No,
- 13:49Speaker 2: that's stage winners. I don't think so. I don't think so. Oh, no, no, no. Okay,
- 13:53Speaker 2: so wait a minute. They group drivers together, and you
- 13:56Speaker 2: pick of the group of drivers. So Tyler Reddick was
- 13:58Speaker 2: probably with two or three other drivers, and he beat them.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I've never heard of Christopher Belknap, and that means anything.
- 14:04Speaker 1: I don't think Bubba Wallace has ever won a race,
- 14:06Speaker 1: has he?
- 14:06Speaker 2: Yeah, he's won like three or four. But he could
- 14:08Speaker 2: have been going against two or three stiffs. Yeah, I mean,
- 14:11Speaker 2: it's basically... Gotcha. Okay, that makes more sense. It's like
- 14:14Speaker 2: in golf, it'd be like Scotty Scheffler to beat... Colin
- 14:18Speaker 2: Morikawa and Justin Rose.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Still seems very, very difficult to go four and four.
- 14:21Speaker 2: I mean, I would agree. Four and O is a
- 14:22Speaker 2: pretty good day. And if there's four tires, one of
- 14:24Speaker 2: them could go flat. At any moment. And then you lose.
- 14:26Speaker 2: If this is a time traveler, why put a buck
- 14:28Speaker 2: on it? That's true. That's right. I'm backing off now.
- 14:31Speaker 2: I don't think it's time travel anymore.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Because it's a long game.
- 14:34Speaker 2: He's got the.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Chad's saying he's got the sports almanac from.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Great sports almanac from... He's nickel and diming.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Yeah, but why waste your time doing a 20-teamer?
- 14:43Speaker 2: Like, I do.
- 14:44Speaker 1: A bunch of $ 500 four or five teamers. Well, that's
- 14:47Speaker 1: going to get you caught.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, I mean, this is not going to get
- 14:51Speaker 2: you caught. See, he's been discovered now. If he gets
- 14:53Speaker 2: you caught, you just go back to the future. Get uncaught. Yeah. Right?
- 14:57Speaker 2: You're uncaught. Or you can go back to the past
- 14:59Speaker 2: and not do this one. Oh, that's the one that
- 15:00Speaker 2: got me caught. Let's don't do that. Oh, yeah. There
- 15:02Speaker 2: you go. He's going long game. If you'd like to
- 15:04Speaker 2: travel through time or maybe throw $ 1 down on a
- 15:09Speaker 2: 20 team, you can do it with our friends at

- 16:03Speaker 1: So Austin Riley was a big winner.
- 16:05Speaker 2: One other baseball note before we flip the script to football.
- 16:09Speaker 2: One thing that has been a storyline in baseball for
- 16:12Speaker 2: several years now is pitchers don't make it, usually through
- 16:15Speaker 2: an entire season without some kind of injury, hitting the IR.
- 16:19Speaker 2: A little proof of what could be causing the problem.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Since 2008, they've been charting pitches that have gone 98
- 16:27Speaker 2: miles per hour or faster. 98 or higher miles per hour.
- 16:35Speaker 2: In 2008, in a Major League Baseball season, there was
- 16:38Speaker 2: only 3,756 pitches in 2008 that went 98 or above
- 16:41Speaker 2: miles per hour on the gun. This year in 2026,
- 16:43Speaker 2: there were 31,686 pitches that went 98 plus.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Our technology is obviously much better, but I do wonder
- 17:00Speaker 1: if you go back to the Bob Gibson days and
- 17:02Speaker 1: everybody swore this guy through in the high 90s and
- 17:04Speaker 1: close to 100. Guys like Steve Carlton, Nolan Ryan, I
- 17:08Speaker 1: really wonder what they maxed out at. I wonder how
- 17:10Speaker 1: many guys in the batter's box saw guys going 100 plus.
- 17:15Speaker 2: I have had a chance over the years to talk
- 17:18Speaker 2: to some veteran pitchers. One of them, I had a
- 17:20Speaker 2: conversation one time with Nolan Ryan, who oftentimes threw 100.
- 17:23Speaker 2: He said that Throughout their career.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Especially the older pitchers like Bob Gibson, you'd have to
- 17:31Speaker 1: save your spot when you'd really heat it up because
- 17:34Speaker 1: the bullpens were not used back then like they're used today.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Starting pitchers were expected to go seven, eight, nine innings
- 17:42Speaker 1: if your team needed it. They didn't do the pitch
- 17:44Speaker 1: count like they do now. They didn't do bullpens.
- 17:47Speaker 2: You make it to the sixth inning or the fifth inning,
- 17:49Speaker 2: you get the quality start, and then it's bullpen by
- 17:51Speaker 2: committee the rest of the way. So you didn't always
- 17:54Speaker 2: go out there and throw max velocity all the time.
- 17:57Speaker 2: You sort of planned your day. You were going to
- 18:00Speaker 2: go out there and pitch nine innings. When you guys
- 18:03Speaker 2: were growing up, at what age did you start seeing
- 18:05Speaker 2: breaking balls? It was supposedly illegal until you turned 13.
- 18:10Speaker 2: I don't think I ever got it. Probably 11 or 12. Yeah,
- 18:13Speaker 2: I was going to say 12. Yeah, and the reason
- 18:15Speaker 2: they did that was they were like the young arm
- 18:17Speaker 2: of you're going to ruin your arm before you even
- 18:19Speaker 2: hit puberty if you start throwing breaking balls turns out
- 18:21Speaker 2: it's throwing way too fast well that's what i was
- 18:23Speaker 2: going to ask is that where we are now because
- 18:25Speaker 2: back then when everybody was like they can't throw breaking
- 18:29Speaker 2: balls until they're 13 or 14 because they'll kill their
- 18:32Speaker 2: arm but buddy if you had a kid that could
- 18:35Speaker 2: bring it up there i mean what's 100 miles an
- 18:37Speaker 2: hour for you know 13 year olds probably what a
- 18:39Speaker 2: 65 mile an hour 70 mile an hour pitch they
- 18:41Speaker 2: were like He threw all those he wants. Well, we're
- 18:44Speaker 2: blessed to have Dr. Andrews, the great sports medicine guy
- 18:48Speaker 2: here in Birmingham over the years, and he worked on this.
- 18:53Speaker 2: I don't think it really was the curves or the sliders.
- 18:56Speaker 2: It was the amount of use the arms were getting. Yeah,
- 18:58Speaker 2: I think it was the torque on the arm. Yeah,
- 19:00Speaker 2: just the number of pitches. And he's like, your pitcher
- 19:04Speaker 2: oftentimes also is your shortstop. And think of how many times,
- 19:06Speaker 2: like even in between being warmed up, you get three
- 19:08Speaker 2: or four balls from the first baseman throwing over the
- 19:11Speaker 2: first base. And you were maxing out that speed there, too.
- 19:14Speaker 2: How many throws are you actually making? Warm-up pitches between innings, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 19:18Speaker 2: That's a good point. The wear and tear and pitch
- 19:20Speaker 2: counts came from that. You like how I said it
- 19:22Speaker 2: was a good point when Dr. Andrews said it? That's
- 19:24Speaker 2: a good point. Yeah, it was Dr. Andrews, right? Mizoroski,
- 19:27Speaker 2: the Brewers pitcher. This year, though, 101-plus miles per hour.
- 19:32Speaker 2: He's thrown 743 pitches, 101-plus just this year. 653 101
- 19:43Speaker 2: pitches by every other starting pitcher in Major League Baseball.
- 19:46Speaker 2: And he's thrown how many? 653 in the rest of
- 19:48Speaker 2: the league? and he threw how many?
- 19:50Speaker 3: 743.
- 19:50Speaker 2: So he's thrown more than the rest of the league.
- 19:53Speaker 2: In starting pitching now. There are bullpen guys who can
- 19:56Speaker 2: heat it up.
- 19:58Speaker 1: There are people out there that believe he will not
- 20:00Speaker 1: make it three or four years.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Is Roski because he throws it so hard? He may
- 20:03Speaker 2: not make it through Tuesday of next week. The next
- 20:06Speaker 2: one he throws, that arm could blow up. So just
- 20:08Speaker 2: a little wear and tear on the arm there. If
- 20:10Speaker 2: you're wondering why, if you ever play fantasy baseball, or
- 20:13Speaker 2: you're like, how come I got six pitchers that are
- 20:16Speaker 2: on the IR? It's because... of the velocity there. Very
- 20:19Speaker 2: different than even just in 2008. Could Greg Maddux, I
- 20:22Speaker 2: think he could survive in today's game.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 20:24Speaker 2: I mean, I think he would thrive in today's game,
- 20:26Speaker 2: wouldn't he? Yeah, absolutely. Do you think so? Yeah. I mean,
- 20:29Speaker 2: vintage Greg, but not today's Greg Maddux. He's 60 or whatever,
- 20:32Speaker 2: but vintage Greg Maddux. Cerebral.
- 20:34Speaker 1: I mean, it's not even, I was going to say
- 20:36Speaker 1: Peyton Manning with the 2015 Colts.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:39Speaker 1: You know, just the knowledge of the game. But, I mean,
- 20:43Speaker 1: his pitch placement was just.
- 20:44Speaker 2: The greatest Maddox story of all time was him intentionally
- 20:47Speaker 2: giving up the home run to the guy. Because he's like,
- 20:49Speaker 2: they're pretty good and we'll see him in the postseason
- 20:51Speaker 2: and he'll be looking for this pitch again. And I'm
- 20:53Speaker 2: not going to throw it. I mean, that was the
- 20:55Speaker 2: type of stuff to set him apart. TikTok has been
- 20:57Speaker 2: amazing for the Greg Maddux. Yeah, it really has. I mean,
- 21:00Speaker 2: I'd forgotten how good he really was. All right. So
- 21:02Speaker 2: that's our opening segment. We jump into college football when
- 21:05Speaker 2: we come back on the other side. The show being
- 21:07Speaker 2: brought to you today by our friends at Hard Rock Bet.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Brandon Marcello here with us. The great Charles Barkley on
- 21:14Speaker 2: the show today. It'll be part of our next round

- 21:44Speaker 2: The platform calls for help us out. That helps us tremendously.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Charles Barkley with us at 1230 Eastern, 1130 Central. When
- 21:52Speaker 2: we come back, college footballers will get ready for the
- 21:55Speaker 2: big one in Starkville. Also a pretty big one in Iowa.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Kirk Ferentz not happy with one phrase that is now
- 22:03Speaker 2: part of college football. I'll tell you what that is next.
- 22:07Speaker 2: We've got some new rivalries now that North Dakota State
- 22:12Speaker 2: has moved up into college football. Them and Wyoming are
- 22:15Speaker 2: in the Mountain West Conference and will play every year now.
- 22:19Speaker 2: So they've developed a new trophy, a rivalry trophy, you know,
- 22:23Speaker 2: to be like the little brown jug or the golden chalet.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Here is the trophy that they're playing for starting this weekend,
- 22:31Speaker 2: the Battle of the Basins. It's the drill bit, the
- 22:34Speaker 2: drill bit. a Wyoming and a North Dakota state trophy.
- 22:40Speaker 2: They'll put their winning year on it. It'll stay on campus.
- 22:42Speaker 2: The drill bit trophy battle of the basins.
- 22:46Speaker 1: So in 2075, when the robots are doing our show,
- 22:50Speaker 1: they'll be like, this is the 50th annual battle.
- 22:52Speaker 2: We have the battle of the drill bits. This is
- 22:55Speaker 2: a battle of the basins drill bit trophy on the line.
- 22:58Speaker 2: I'm going to put the robot voice better than your
- 23:01Speaker 2: Bane voice. I like the robot. Pittsburgh. Does that man
- 23:04Speaker 2: have this game in his 20-tea parlay?
- 23:07Speaker 1: The AI voice is trying to sound like a human, though.
- 23:09Speaker 2: It wouldn't sound like that. Good point, good point. So
- 23:11Speaker 2: the drill bit, is that when we drill for oil?
- 23:15Speaker 2: Good old American crude, Jimmy D.
- 23:17Speaker 1: All right, so I never really think oil when I
- 23:20Speaker 1: think North Dakota and Wyoming.
- 23:21Speaker 2: I always think Texas, but I guess it could be
- 23:23Speaker 2: a dentist.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Is it the heartland of dentists? Big dental schools? No,
- 23:27Speaker 1: you see petroleum at the top of the logo there.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Battle of the Basins there. That gets together this weekend,
- 23:33Speaker 1: I believe, right?
- 23:34Speaker 2: That's going to be your key there, Jimmy D. The
- 23:36Speaker 2: North Dakota Petroleum Council appears to be the sponsor of
- 23:39Speaker 2: this game. So, well, let's create a trophy that represents them. Yeah,
- 23:42Speaker 2: advertising everywhere, Brownie. Our friends at Crockett Coffee get you

- 24:40Speaker 1: Kirk Ferentz has the stage this week. Game days at Iowa.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Ohio State and Iowa.
- 24:46Speaker 2: And Kirk's not happy with a phrase that has popped up,
- 24:49Speaker 2: and it popped up after the Michigan game last week.
- 24:52Speaker 2: I'm going to have a hard time saying it. I-O-W-A-E-D. Iowad? Iowad. Yeah,
- 25:00Speaker 2: he doesn't like that. He doesn't like it. He goes,
- 25:02Speaker 2: we're not an entertainment business. We're here to win football games. Well,
- 25:04Speaker 2: we are, so we can coin Iowad.
- 25:07Speaker 1: I can feel Kirk doesn't like a lot of things.
- 25:10Speaker 1: But Michigan got Iowad last week. Can Ohio State get
- 25:14Speaker 1: Iowa this week?
- 25:16Speaker 2: I just don't see it.
- 25:17Speaker 1: You know what's going to be fascinating is I think
- 25:19Speaker 1: Jeremiah Smith, this is one of those games where he
- 25:22Speaker 1: really wants– he showed out last week with the 12
- 25:24Speaker 1: grabs and the four touchdowns, but now you're going against really,
- 25:27Speaker 1: really good cornerbacks, projected NFL guys. This is an opportunity
- 25:32Speaker 1: for Ohio State to not only go out and give
- 25:34Speaker 1: Iowa their first loss and make a statement on the road,
- 25:37Speaker 1: but also a big statement for Jeremiah Smith.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Not that he needs that. I would respond to your
- 25:43Speaker 2: question with a question, Jim. Can you see Hank Brown
- 25:47Speaker 2: dicing up the Ohio State defense? I cannot. I cannot either.
- 25:50Speaker 2: And that seems like that's going to be a problem
- 25:52Speaker 2: for Iowa in this game. I mean, if Ohio State
- 25:56Speaker 2: is going to get Iowa, Ohio State's going to have
- 25:58Speaker 2: to turn it over a lot. And Iowa would like
- 26:01Speaker 2: for this to be a sloppy, messy game.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Ferentz is so good in these spots. So the last
- 26:07Speaker 1: time they didn't cover against a ranked opponent in Iowa
- 26:10Speaker 1: City was 2022. They were 2-0 last year. And you
- 26:13Speaker 1: think about the games they had. They had Indiana.
- 26:16Speaker 2: 2-0 winning or covering? Covering, but very, very.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Tight against ranked opponents. So last year it was Indiana
- 26:20Speaker 1: came in. You remember that game, one possession.
- 26:23Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, that's right.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Yeah, they was 20-16. And then Oregon, how Oregon pulled
- 26:27Speaker 1: that out of their ass in those bad conditions.
- 26:29Speaker 2: It was crazy.
- 26:29Speaker 1: But Iowa played them both, full 60 minutes. I just
- 26:33Speaker 1: don't see it in this one, but, you know, hell,
- 26:35Speaker 1: they found a way to win last week on the road.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Number five at number 14 in the latest AP poll.
- 26:41Speaker 2: In fairness, what they did last week, last minute win
- 26:43Speaker 2: at Michigan, but is there a team in the Big
- 26:46Speaker 2: Ten that's a brand that's more Iowa-like than this version
- 26:49Speaker 2: of Michigan? I mean, that's... That's a struggling offense. It's
- 26:51Speaker 2: almost like when we get to the NCAA tournament and
- 26:54Speaker 2: you're like, when a Princeton team goes against a high-paced team,
- 26:58Speaker 2: you're like, well, that's going to be great. You got
- 27:00Speaker 2: the opposite of that in this one. Michigan and Iowa
- 27:03Speaker 2: play a lot alike, so it wasn't like contrasting styles.
- 27:05Speaker 1: That's why the total was 38.5, one of the lowest
- 27:07Speaker 1: totals you'll ever see in college football.
- 27:09Speaker 2: And it's what kept Iowa in the game. It's why
- 27:10Speaker 2: you had the opportunity for, amazingly, Hank Brown to lead
- 27:13Speaker 2: them 91 yards. Another big discussion that has been going
- 27:16Speaker 2: on this week is the latest AP poll that that
- 27:19Speaker 2: once again for the second week in a row has
- 27:21Speaker 2: 10 different SEC teams ranked, and non-SEC coaches are griping
- 27:28Speaker 2: about the AP poll, so much so that the AP
- 27:30Speaker 2: poll pointed out that less than 30% of the voters
- 27:34Speaker 2: are from the SEC footprint, that have a tie to
- 27:37Speaker 2: the SEC, and that 70% of the votes come from
- 27:41Speaker 2: outside of the SEC footprint, are ties to the SEC,
- 27:45Speaker 2: and yet there are 10 teams ranked there.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Here's what I would say, because you heard Klatt kind
- 27:50Speaker 1: of take a shout-out at Monday, and everybody's talking about Missouri,
- 27:53Speaker 1: but who are other teams you would have ranked in
- 27:55Speaker 1: the top 25?
- 27:57Speaker 2: Let's listen to Shannon right here. This is Miami's offensive coordinator,
- 28:01Speaker 2: Shannon Dawson, who had this to say about the AP
- 28:05Speaker 2: poll and specifically the Southeastern Conference.
- 28:08Speaker 8: First of all, there should be no such thing as
- 28:10Speaker 8: preseason rankings. That's the most ridiculous thing on the planet.
- 28:14Speaker 8: That is the stupidest thing because people, people weigh those
- 28:19Speaker 8: things way heavier than they should. You shouldn't have a
- 28:21Speaker 8: ranking until October. But how do you know? A &
- 28:25Speaker 8: M' s ranked in the top five. Well, how does that
- 28:27Speaker 8: look right now? I mean, there's multiple teams. And if
- 28:31Speaker 8: anything is a predictable or the future, it's the past.
- 28:34Speaker 8: Go look at the top 10 last year. I did.
- 28:37Speaker 8: Five of them weren't even in the top 25.
- 28:39Speaker 2: So we sit here and look at, schedules.
- 28:42Speaker 8: And we're like, and obviously everything's SEC, SEC. Well, look, yeah,
- 28:46Speaker 8: they have all their teams in the top 25.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Guess what? Good for you.
- 28:50Speaker 8: At the end of the year, half of them will
- 28:52Speaker 8: be in the top 30.
- 28:53Speaker 2: That's just the way it is.
- 28:54Speaker 8: And so we can't sit here and look at, hey,
- 28:56Speaker 8: we play X number of top 25. We don't know that.
- 29:00Speaker 8: We'll count those chips up at the end of the year.
- 29:02Speaker 8: But that's why there shouldn't be rankings because you give
- 29:05Speaker 8: people talking points that are idiots. They don't know what
- 29:07Speaker 8: they're doing. Play the game. Play every week. It's like
- 29:11Speaker 8: playing poker. Count the chips up at the end. You
- 29:14Speaker 8: don't know at the beginning. The fact that we have
- 29:16Speaker 8: preseason rankings is unbelievable to me. And the fact that
- 29:18Speaker 8: people pay attention to them is more unbelievable.
- 29:22Speaker 2: You're talking about it. I've never heard that guy talk.
- 29:24Speaker 2: That does not match what I thought he was talking about.
- 29:26Speaker 1: Does he really sound like that, or did he go
- 29:28Speaker 1: to the dentist?
- 29:29Speaker 2: No, he sounds like that. I would say this, though.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Texas A & M, top five, he brought them up.
- 29:35Speaker 2: You see Texas A & M right now, Brownie, in
- 29:37Speaker 2: my sheet? I don't. They may be on the back.
- 29:39Speaker 2: They're not on the front. Not on the back either.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Texas A & M is not in the top five.
- 29:43Speaker 2: They're not in the top 10, 15, 20, or top
- 29:47Speaker 2: 25 at all, Brown. They were in the preseason. They
- 29:50Speaker 2: actually weren't top five. They're not even in the top
- 29:52Speaker 2: 30 now. We did what Shannon Dawson did, to my point. Yeah.
- 29:57Speaker 2: We took Texas A & M, and we're here now.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Even the same people that voted on the preseason poll,
- 30:03Speaker 2: we're here now. And what'd they do, Brown? They watched
- 30:06Speaker 2: them play football. Boy, was I wrong. Like Shannon Dawson
- 30:09Speaker 2: says we should. And now, as we get to October,
- 30:12Speaker 2: the rankings are out. They've watched football, and the rankings
- 30:14Speaker 2: sort of reflect what the preseason ranking, if we did
- 30:17Speaker 2: our first poll right now, it would look like this.
- 30:19Speaker 2: In other words, what you're saying is his argument was
- 30:22Speaker 2: against his argument, basically. His argument was... Lance, Texas A &
- 30:26Speaker 2: M started in the top five. Now they're unranked. Well, yeah,
- 30:29Speaker 2: that's the way the poll works. People adjust when they
- 30:31Speaker 2: see stuff. Now, I mean, the only reason we have a–
- 30:37Speaker 2: I don't know how long they've done the AP preseason
- 30:38Speaker 2: top 25. Since the 1930s. So they've done a preseason
- 30:42Speaker 2: since the 1930s. And it was started, wait for it,
- 30:45Speaker 2: as a way to sell newspapers for the Associated Press.
- 30:48Speaker 2: And it was a marketing tool for college football. Which
- 30:50Speaker 2: makes sense. And I think the only reason it exists
- 30:53Speaker 2: right now, because the AP has no meaning– The only
- 30:56Speaker 2: reason it exists right now is so that ESPN and
- 30:58Speaker 2: Fox and CBS can put that little number next to
- 31:01Speaker 2: their team sometime before November. And I think we like it.
- 31:03Speaker 2: I mean, it doesn't do any harm. It's a marketing tool.
- 31:05Speaker 2: It is. It does zero harm. But his argument would be,
- 31:10Speaker 2: let me look at your sheet right there, Donovan. Hold
- 31:12Speaker 2: that up. That we make the SEC out to be
- 31:14Speaker 2: too good. I think what his argument would be, well,
- 31:17Speaker 2: I can't find a good example. I was trying to think.
- 31:20Speaker 2: His argument would be. Like if you beat A & M,
- 31:23Speaker 2: see nobody that was ranked beat A & M, you
- 31:27Speaker 2: get credit for a top 25 win. Well, they're not
- 31:29Speaker 2: a top 25 team now. Well, Kentucky beat them. They're 24th.
- 31:32Speaker 2: That's a good one. So Kentucky, they're in there. They
- 31:34Speaker 2: lost to a top 25 team in Alabama, but they
- 31:36Speaker 2: beat a top 25 team in A & M. Well,
- 31:39Speaker 2: they're not top 25 anymore. Well, guess what? If Kentucky
- 31:41Speaker 2: loses this week at South Carolina, will they be here? No,
- 31:44Speaker 2: they'll be out. And if Missouri loses at home to Florida,
- 31:47Speaker 2: they're going to be out. They're going to be out, yes. Now,
- 31:50Speaker 2: Missouri is the one, you brought this up a lot yesterday,
- 31:52Speaker 2: Missouri is the one that shouldn't be in there. As
- 31:54Speaker 2: an SEC guy, Missouri shouldn't be ranked. Lance, I would
- 31:57Speaker 2: have Duke in front of Missouri. I wouldn't have a
- 32:00Speaker 2: problem with that. I would have Missouri in front of Kentucky. Really? Yeah.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Missouri is undefeated, and Kentucky does have one loss. To
- 32:06Speaker 2: your point. No, Missouri lost to Mississippi State. I mean,
- 32:08Speaker 2: that's right. My bad. My bad. That's why I don't
- 32:11Speaker 2: want it.
- 32:11Speaker 1: I just personally think through four weeks, Missouri is a
- 32:14Speaker 1: little bit better than Kentucky. I think Kentucky loses this week.
- 32:18Speaker 1: I actually think Missouri wins this week. But we'll see.
- 32:20Speaker 2: That's why it's a week-to-week thing. That's why we do
- 32:22Speaker 2: what Shannon Dawson says. We watch the game each week,
- 32:25Speaker 2: and it adjusts right now. And you know when the
- 32:27Speaker 2: poll matters best? The very last one. The very last one.
- 32:30Speaker 2: That's when we count the chips up.
- 32:31Speaker 1: But I do think Duke deserves to be ranked.
- 32:34Speaker 2: I'm fine with that. And I think they're a pretty
- 32:35Speaker 2: good team. I do, too. And, in fact, they've got
- 32:37Speaker 2: a shot at being undefeated when they play No. 4 Miami.
- 32:41Speaker 2: But that's going to sort itself out. By the way,
- 32:44Speaker 2: if Duke is undefeated and they beat No. 4 Miami–
- 32:47Speaker 2: Duke will be probably in the top 15 or top 10. Yeah,
- 32:50Speaker 2: top 10 probably. Top 10. So, I mean, it's going
- 32:52Speaker 2: to sort itself out. It always does. I will say this, though.
- 32:55Speaker 2: He can sit there and say that right now because
- 32:58Speaker 2: in their last five games against the SEC, Miami's 5-0.
- 33:02Speaker 2: And some of those came in the playoffs last year.
- 33:03Speaker 2: So he can sit there and say that right now
- 33:05Speaker 2: that the SEC is pumped up with a little extra
- 33:08Speaker 2: air maybe in marketing because they've gone 5-0 against them.
- 33:10Speaker 2: This is going to be hard to do. This is
- 33:12Speaker 2: going to be really hard to do. But I'm going
- 33:13Speaker 2: to challenge you to do it. Ignore everything you've seen
- 33:18Speaker 2: before this season. Ignore the preseason rankings, okay? Ignore everything. Like,
- 33:24Speaker 2: whatever happened last year no longer matters. The preseason rankings
- 33:28Speaker 2: don't matter. Give me your top five. First, I would
- 33:31Speaker 2: say I don't think Texas is number one in my book. Oh,
- 33:33Speaker 2: that's fine.
- 33:34Speaker 7: I don't care.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Give it to me.
- 33:34Speaker 1: But they've got the best win. That's what's hard, LT.
- 33:37Speaker 1: That is difficult. And I will say it's almost impossible
- 33:40Speaker 1: to do this based on brands.
- 33:42Speaker 2: It is impossible. But I'm getting at a point here.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Another thing that's hard is that who hasn't played anybody?
- 33:47Speaker 2: That was my point. Miami and Notre Dame. That was
- 33:49Speaker 2: my point. Were you going to have Miami in your
- 33:51Speaker 2: top five? If you ignore all of last year. That's right.
- 33:54Speaker 2: And you just start completely fresh. I would go Florida. See,
- 33:58Speaker 2: this is what's crazy. I don't disagree with you. I
- 34:00Speaker 2: would go Georgia. Georgia hasn't played anybody, but they have annihilated.
- 34:04Speaker 2: They've dominated who they've played. Annihilated.
- 34:07Speaker 1: I guess you would have to have Texas because they
- 34:09Speaker 1: do have impressive wins.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Shannon Dawson would love this. Top three for the SEC.
- 34:14Speaker 1: I would go Notre Dame at four, and then I
- 34:16Speaker 1: would go Miami at five.
- 34:18Speaker 2: But you're putting Miami in there just because they've dominated nobody. Right.
- 34:22Speaker 1: Much like Georgia, but it's like Georgia light.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Yeah. You're buying stock that Notre Dame and Miami is
- 34:28Speaker 2: as good as we think they are.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Yeah, but just based everything off, and this is difficult
- 34:32Speaker 1: to do, I think your top three teams, just based
- 34:35Speaker 1: on four weeks, are all SEC teams.
- 34:37Speaker 2: If I asked you, get out of the top 25,
- 34:40Speaker 2: if I said just the top 40 in college football,
- 34:43Speaker 2: and we've watched four weeks, and the three of us,
- 34:46Speaker 2: we've seen every game, I think. bits and pieces of
- 34:48Speaker 2: every game of the power conferences. If I said top 40,
- 34:53Speaker 2: how many SEC teams are in the top 40? It's
- 34:57Speaker 2: easier to do this. How many SEC teams are not
- 34:59Speaker 2: in the top 40?
- 35:00Speaker 1: I think there are three that are not.
- 35:02Speaker 2: Arkansas definitely is not. Arkansas is not. South Carolina is not.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Auburn is not. Auburn is close to it. And your
- 35:08Speaker 2: transition team. Auburn is in the top 40. Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt
- 35:10Speaker 2: is your transition team, and Auburn just beat Vanderbilt, so
- 35:13Speaker 2: it's kind of hard to put them in the top 40.
- 35:16Speaker 2: I would probably say Vandy's not top 40.
- 35:18Speaker 1: I would probably say that, too.
- 35:19Speaker 2: Give me an example of who's 39th and 40th in
- 35:21Speaker 2: your mind, not in the SEC. Like, tell me who. Well,
- 35:26Speaker 2: I mean, Duke's obviously not in the AP top 25.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I would go like the Arizonas and the Kansas States.
- 35:32Speaker 2: Big 12 more. That's around 39 and 40. Yeah. And
- 35:35Speaker 2: you don't think Auburn could beat?
- 35:37Speaker 3: Oh, no, no.
- 35:38Speaker 2: I'm not saying that.
- 35:39Speaker 1: I'm just right now where they are. I think Saturday's
- 35:42Speaker 1: game's fascinating. You know, they found a way to beat Vanderbilt.
- 35:45Speaker 1: It was just a really, really boring game. I think
- 35:48Speaker 1: those teams are kind of equivalent.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Here's the 40th team in the AP is Northwestern. They
- 35:53Speaker 2: feel like a top 40 team to me. Yeah, right
- 35:55Speaker 2: at it. All right, let's just do this. North Dakota
- 35:57Speaker 2: State's 39. Does that feel like a, I mean. I
- 36:00Speaker 2: think North Dakota State would beat Northwestern. Yeah, but North
- 36:02Speaker 2: Dakota State's played. I mean, Jack State's the best team
- 36:05Speaker 2: they've played that they beat. But they've been annihilating teams too.
- 36:08Speaker 2: By SEC standards, who does, in the SEC, does North
- 36:11Speaker 2: Dakota State or Northwestern beat?
- 36:14Speaker 1: They would beat South Carolina, I think. I think they
- 36:19Speaker 1: would beat Arkansas.
- 36:22Speaker 2: And then, I don't know. Oh, you can't shake your head.
- 36:25Speaker 2: I don't think they'd beat South Carolina. Arkansas, maybe. Jim,
- 36:28Speaker 2: I mean, they played Indiana to the wire. In Bloomington,
- 36:31Speaker 2: Friday night. I'm going to stick with this.
- 36:33Speaker 1: I know Boise's the trendy pick and how they played
- 36:35Speaker 1: Oregon and everything. I think North Dakota State is going
- 36:37Speaker 1: to be your group six rep.
- 36:39Speaker 2: So, we'll get to see. Minnesota is 38. That feels
- 36:42Speaker 2: like a Top 40 team to me. You said Arizona,
- 36:45Speaker 2: James Madison, Cincinnati, Louisville, Nebraska. I mean, all those teams
- 36:50Speaker 2: are like top 40.
- 36:51Speaker 1: If the ACC is upset about it, I mean, Pittsburgh
- 36:53Speaker 1: Virginia Tech winner is going to get in. They'll be
- 36:55Speaker 1: a top 25 team this week. Duke, I think without
- 36:58Speaker 1: playing one of those two, Kentucky or Missouri is going
- 37:01Speaker 1: to lose.
- 37:02Speaker 2: I think Duke will be a top 25 team this week.
- 37:05Speaker 2: This is a work in progress, and I think coaches
- 37:07Speaker 2: forget that sometimes, that this every week changes sometimes dramatically.
- 37:12Speaker 2: And usually by the time we get to the end,
- 37:16Speaker 2: it's pretty correct. Not just the AP poll, but then
- 37:18Speaker 2: at some point we throw this away. What was the
- 37:20Speaker 2: context of the question asked to Shannon Dawson? Too much SEC?
- 37:24Speaker 2: I would imagine that. It was something like that. I
- 37:26Speaker 2: did not hear the question. I've only seen for three days.
- 37:29Speaker 5: It was about Wake and how good they look. And
- 37:33Speaker 5: it was basically, hey, that schedule is looking a little
- 37:36Speaker 5: tougher now, right?
- 37:37Speaker 2: And then he drove off into the SEC.
- 37:39Speaker 7: And then he was like, yeah, these preseason rankings are BS.
- 37:43Speaker 1: Well, I mean, I don't think Miami really cares about
- 37:46Speaker 1: the rest of the ACC.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Do you guys? I don't.
- 37:48Speaker 1: I mean, what was the ACC tweet last year?
- 37:50Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, I remember that.
- 37:52Speaker 1: He took a shot at Notre Dame or something, right?
- 37:54Speaker 1: Although Notre Dame plays four games in conference.
- 37:56Speaker 2: Yeah, they were walking a tricky line. They were campaigning
- 37:59Speaker 2: for Miami when Notre Dame's a quasi-member of their conference. Yeah.
- 38:03Speaker 2: They play each other this year coming up in November.
- 38:06Speaker 2: Until then, Notre Dame has BYU. Miami doesn't have a
- 38:09Speaker 2: whole lot. You can prop Wake up all you want.
- 38:12Speaker 2: Wake's a pretty good football team. I don't know how
- 38:15Speaker 2: high you would have them in your top 25.
- 38:17Speaker 1: I wouldn't have them in the top 25, but I
- 38:20Speaker 1: think they're a borderline top 35 team.
- 38:23Speaker 2: The only reason I brought Duke up is because of
- 38:26Speaker 2: Danny Canale. I had not stopped to think about how
- 38:28Speaker 2: odd it is that a defending Power Four Conference champion
- 38:33Speaker 2: is still undefeated and is not ranked. And has actually
- 38:36Speaker 2: played a decent team. I mean, a lot of teams
- 38:38Speaker 2: have played nobody so far. They went and beat Illinois
- 38:41Speaker 2: in Champaign, I believe it was. Was that game in Champaign? Yeah. Yeah,
- 38:44Speaker 2: it was. But you could also, going back to baseball terms,
- 38:48Speaker 2: do the top 10 teams starting in the American League
- 38:51Speaker 2: next year, and you're not going to have the Astros
- 38:53Speaker 2: who won their division because they're 81-81. Dude won that division,
- 38:57Speaker 2: but what was it, record? They won their conference. But
- 38:59Speaker 2: they won the conference. I know, I know, I know.
- 39:02Speaker 2: But it is weird when a defending conference champion is undefeated.
- 39:06Speaker 2: It is very odd. It is very odd. 5-0 Miami
- 39:10Speaker 2: against the SEC. Lance has five teams that he thinks
- 39:15Speaker 2: he can go ahead and say, they're not even going
- 39:18Speaker 2: to make a bowl game.
- 39:21Speaker 8: Right?
- 39:21Speaker 2: You just told me five? Yeah.
- 39:22Speaker 1: I mean, five teams that I think before the season
- 39:25Speaker 1: would have surprised you they couldn't get to six wins.
- 39:27Speaker 2: And when we come back, Lance, uh, ahead. You may
- 39:31Speaker 2: pop the balloon of one of your favorite teams when
- 39:33Speaker 2: we come back on the next round presented by Hard
- 39:35Speaker 2: Rock Bets right here on Sporting State. By the way,
- 39:39Speaker 2: if you like coaching trees that are well pruned and
- 39:44Speaker 2: maintained this time of year if the fall foliage comes. Right.
- 39:49Speaker 2: Indiana's head coach, Kirk Cignetti, used to coach at James Madison.
- 39:54Speaker 2: Bob Chesney, coach at UCLA, used to coach at James Madison.
- 39:57Speaker 2: Billy Napier, now coaching at James Madison. All three, 4-0
- 40:01Speaker 2: right now. I mean, it tells me that, I mean, well,
- 40:06Speaker 2: I don't know. I was going to say it tells
- 40:07Speaker 2: me that James Madison job is just a really good
- 40:09Speaker 2: job right now. But, I mean, Chesney and certainly Cignetti
- 40:12Speaker 2: have said, it wasn't about James Madison. It was about me.
- 40:15Speaker 1: Yeah, but, you know, Billy Napier could be one of
- 40:17Speaker 1: those guys you saw at Louisiana that maybe just does,
- 40:20Speaker 1: you know, a.
- 40:20Speaker 2: Little bit more or less. Yeah, yeah. So there we go.
- 40:24Speaker 2: 4-0 for three coaches with James Madison ties. XXXY, and
- 40:28Speaker 2: then we'll go into a marketing nightmare for one program.
- 40:32Speaker 2: Jennifer Say, national champion gymnast and brand president at Levi's.
- 40:38Speaker 2: And rather than say something she didn't believe in, she
- 40:42Speaker 2: walked away from that corporate job and started XXXY Athletics instead.
- 40:46Speaker 2: The mission, in their words, empower female athletes and take
- 40:49Speaker 2: a stand for fair competition. They launched the T that
- 40:52Speaker 2: launched a movement. For that reason, you can get it
- 40:56Speaker 2: online right now. Real Athletic Apparel. Not just a slogan
- 40:59Speaker 2: on a shirt. We're talking performance tops, tanks, sports bras, leggings, shorts,
- 41:03Speaker 2: training sets, hoodies, hats, graphic tees, men's and women's clothing
- 41:07Speaker 2: worn by athletes who've actually put something on the line.

- 41:15Speaker 2: at xxxyathletics.com. That is xx-xyathletics.com. Hey, listen, during the summer,
- 41:23Speaker 2: you're marketing teams together. You do things. I think Desert
- 41:29Speaker 2: Camo is the uniform this weekend for Texas A & M.
- 41:31Speaker 2: They're going to be in a brown camo uniform. as
- 41:35Speaker 2: they get ready to play host to Arkansas. It's a
- 41:37Speaker 2: cool-looking uniform. Your team was playing better. Yeah, I think
- 41:40Speaker 2: I'd just keep it basic. I don't know who you're
- 41:43Speaker 2: saying right now. But they, yesterday, sent out a post.
- 41:47Speaker 2: Bring me Forrester's microphone here. Here's the post that says,
- 41:50Speaker 2: stay tuned. And they've got blank end zones because they
- 41:54Speaker 2: were like new end zone design loading. Forrester?
- 41:57Speaker 6: Forrester?
- 41:59Speaker 2: How'd that go on social media yesterday?
- 42:02Speaker 5: Well, when you give the internet a blank canvas like this.
- 42:08Speaker 2: Got a few responses? It did.
- 42:11Speaker 7: Here we go. We got the spirit Halloween.
- 42:14Speaker 1: That's really, really good. I love a good spirit Halloween joke.
- 42:19Speaker 1: By the way, that would be difficult to draw on
- 42:21Speaker 1: a whiteboard.
- 42:22Speaker 2: Yes, it would. That's very good. Eight and four. Eight
- 42:25Speaker 2: and four. Eight and four loading. Go ahead and put
- 42:27Speaker 2: eight and four in the end zone there. Yeah, me
- 42:29Speaker 2: as well. That's what they get.
- 42:31Speaker 7: Still paying Jimbo $ 7.
- 42:32Speaker 1: 2 million a year.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Help us.
- 42:39Speaker 7: Please send a coordinator.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Wow.
- 42:41Speaker 7: Home of the 12th man.
- 42:42Speaker 2: The other 11 are still looking for the ball. Boy,
- 42:44Speaker 2: it's turned quick on Elko, didn't it?
- 42:54Speaker 7: Same result, different year.
- 42:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. They just got to it earlier this year.
- 43:00Speaker 7: And irrelevant since 1939.
- 43:03Speaker 2: God, that program, man. It's sad. It really is. Like,
- 43:07Speaker 2: they have got everything you need to win except for
- 43:11Speaker 2: female cheerleaders. And I don't know what else. Like, the
- 43:15Speaker 2: only thing I know they're missing is female cheerleaders. Give
- 43:18Speaker 2: me one other thing you think Texas A & M
- 43:20Speaker 2: is missing. Well, consistent quarterback. No, no, no. I'm just... Well... A.
- 43:23Speaker 1: Tradition better than the midnight yell.
- 43:26Speaker 2: No, I mean, but you could fix better quarterback. Yeah, trophies. No,
- 43:29Speaker 2: they're missing trophies, but I'm asking you why. I mean,
- 43:32Speaker 2: the only thing I really know that they don't have
- 43:34Speaker 2: that every other SEC team has is female cheerleaders. I
- 43:38Speaker 2: don't know if you saw the Johnny Menzel tweet coming
- 43:40Speaker 2: out of the weekend. One of their best quarterbacks of
- 43:44Speaker 2: all time. I mean, he wasn't consistent. It burned pretty
- 43:47Speaker 2: quick for Johnny Menzel, but his– His last two years,
- 43:49Speaker 2: he won the Heisman. He was pretty good in 2013, right? Oh, yeah. Fantastic.
- 43:53Speaker 2: So much so he was the first-round draft pick. He
- 43:56Speaker 2: was not happy with the way things are going at
- 43:58Speaker 2: Texas A & M. I don't know what fixes it.
- 44:01Speaker 2: They've got the money. They've got everything. That's what I'm saying.
- 44:03Speaker 2: They've got all the resources, Jim. They've got boosters that
- 44:06Speaker 2: are willing to spend. They've got facilities, Lance. I mean.
- 44:08Speaker 1: Yeah, you hardly ever see.
- 44:10Speaker 2: You see it a lot with players.
- 44:11Speaker 1: Players that get these massive contracts and then they seem
- 44:14Speaker 1: to get a little lazy and the production falls off.
- 44:17Speaker 2: You don't typically see that with coaches. And I know.
- 44:21Speaker 1: There is a small contingent of A & M fans
- 44:23Speaker 1: that think maybe that is Elko.
- 44:25Speaker 2: I find that hard to believe. I just... I don't know.
- 44:28Speaker 1: I just don't think this team's very good this year.
- 44:30Speaker 9: But.
- 44:31Speaker 2: Texas A & M is going to make a bowl game.
- 44:33Speaker 2: They're not one of the five that you're about to
- 44:35Speaker 2: pop the bubble, though, right? A & M will make
- 44:38Speaker 2: a bowl game. Give me the five programs that you
- 44:42Speaker 2: think will surprise me that will miss the bowls altogether.
- 44:48Speaker 1: I've got them listed right here. You've got them on
- 44:49Speaker 1: a dry race board? I'm just going to go on
- 44:50Speaker 1: and throw them up and I'll go through them.
- 44:54Speaker 2: Georgia Tech.
- 44:56Speaker 1: They are coming off three consecutive winning seasons, including nine
- 44:59Speaker 1: wins under Brent Key last year. This team is awful.
- 45:03Speaker 1: It is the worst team in the ACC. It's kind
- 45:06Speaker 1: of hard to go from where you were.
- 45:08Speaker 2: They did just lose to Stanford. Oh, they're the worst
- 45:10Speaker 2: team in the ACC. I think he's right. They just
- 45:12Speaker 2: lost to Stanford. I mean, you tell me teams like Syracuse.
- 45:15Speaker 2: Boston College. Boston College.
- 45:17Speaker 1: I mean, you can at least make an argument that
- 45:20Speaker 1: Georgia Tech is the worst team in the ACC.
- 45:22Speaker 2: Those two play in a few weeks. We'll find out.
- 45:25Speaker 2: I'll die on Chestnut Hill.
- 45:27Speaker 1: I'll just tell you, like, winnable games coming up, I
- 45:29Speaker 1: don't think they can beat Duke. I don't think that
- 45:31Speaker 1: they're going to win at Virginia Tech. Boston College, they
- 45:33Speaker 1: get them in Atlanta. They got to go to Pitt.
- 45:35Speaker 1: They've got Louisville at Clemson, Wake Forest and at Georgia.
- 45:38Speaker 2: They're going to struggle to find three wins. Yeah, I
- 45:40Speaker 2: think they're three and nine. Yeah. And that's that may
- 45:42Speaker 2: be generous. Yeah.
- 45:44Speaker 1: And then, you know, I don't know. I know you
- 45:46Speaker 1: guys said Brent Keyes at a Georgia Tech guy, which
- 45:48Speaker 1: he is.
- 45:48Speaker 2: I don't think they would fire him, but I do
- 45:50Speaker 2: think this would get him squarely on the hot seat
- 45:52Speaker 2: next year.
- 45:53Speaker 1: Next, I got South Carolina. You know, this has been
- 45:55Speaker 1: a disaster. They're coming off a four and eight loss.
- 45:59Speaker 1: Shane Beamer knew that he was going to have to
- 46:01Speaker 1: win and win at kind of a high level.
- 46:03Speaker 2: This year for South Carolina.
- 46:04Speaker 1: You had an experienced quarterback coming back, but not only
- 46:07Speaker 1: are you losing, but you're losing with Dylan Stewart in
- 46:10Speaker 1: that look.
- 46:11Speaker 2: Okay, let's listen to Shane Beamer. He gets asked yesterday
- 46:14Speaker 2: about Dylan Stewart. If you missed that, the SEC and
- 46:18Speaker 2: South Carolina combined to give Dylan Stewart a one-game suspension
- 46:21Speaker 2: for the punch thrown in the end zone in Tuscaloosa.
- 46:26Speaker 2: Right now, Shane Beamer points out he's suspended indefinitely. He's
- 46:30Speaker 2: not with the team. Here's Shane Beamer yesterday.
- 46:33Speaker 1: Shane, what determines when or if Dylan will return to
- 46:36Speaker 1: the program?
- 46:37Speaker 9: Me.
- 46:41Speaker 2: Me. That's it? Yep. I mean, the guy's on a
- 46:46Speaker 2: hot seat and he hasn't done a great job this year,
- 46:48Speaker 2: but I do at least appreciate that. Like, he's got
- 46:50Speaker 2: to win me back over. And we talked about the
- 46:52Speaker 2: punch probably wasn't the worst. It wasn't the best, but
- 46:56Speaker 2: it wasn't the worst thing he did.
- 46:57Speaker 1: The insubordination was the bad thing. Refused to be substituted for,
- 47:01Speaker 1: didn't run off the field. He got into an argument.
- 47:03Speaker 2: I don't like the way he said me, though. You
- 47:05Speaker 2: don't like that?
- 47:05Speaker 1: No.
- 47:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:06Speaker 2: Can you play it again? You just think it's like
- 47:09Speaker 2: almost a condescending me. Yeah, it is.
- 47:11Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 47:11Speaker 2: He's very thirsty.
- 47:12Speaker 1: Shane, what determines when or if Dylan will return to
- 47:15Speaker 1: the program? Me. And he looks around. Anybody got a
- 47:20Speaker 1: problem with that?
- 47:22Speaker 2: He does do that. Give me cut 15. Now, he
- 47:24Speaker 2: did go on. There was a news conference that continued,
- 47:26Speaker 2: and he did go back. Well, to answer so-and-so's question.
- 47:28Speaker 2: By the way, I like Shane Beamer. He's a nice guy.
- 47:31Speaker 2: I think he's a little over his head. That's a
- 47:33Speaker 2: difficult job. You have to sort of put your foot
- 47:36Speaker 2: down when the people are doing this. Here's 15. He
- 47:40Speaker 2: gets asked about the fans' frustrations with his excuses.
- 47:45Speaker 9: There seems to be a growing contingent of fans that
- 47:47Speaker 9: feel like they're hearing the same excuses for losses and
- 47:52Speaker 9: feel frustrated with that. What do you have to say
- 47:54Speaker 9: to those fans?
- 47:55Speaker 3: I would say I'm frustrated, too, because I see a
- 47:57Speaker 3: lot of the issues on Saturday that we need to
- 48:01Speaker 3: get corrected and we need to coach better and perform better.
- 48:04Speaker 2: You asked a question.
- 48:05Speaker 3: People get tired of hearing about the wrong thing.
- 48:07Speaker 2: Well, guess what? We had a hell of a practice today.
- 48:10Speaker 2: We had a hell of a practice. You know what?
- 48:12Speaker 3: So you get tired of hearing that, I'm sorry. You're
- 48:14Speaker 3: going to keep hearing it, but we got some freaking
- 48:16Speaker 3: awesome young men that went out there today, practiced their
- 48:20Speaker 3: butts off with a ton of energy, and they hurt too.
- 48:24Speaker 2: Yeah, see, as a fan, I really don't care what
- 48:26Speaker 2: kind of practice you had today. When you're losing stuff
- 48:29Speaker 2: like that, there's just nothing really you can say. Yeah,
- 48:31Speaker 2: I want to see what you do on Saturday. That's right,
- 48:32Speaker 2: but the problem is not practice. But here's the intersection
- 48:35Speaker 2: of reality and projection here. You've got South Carolina on here,
- 48:41Speaker 2: but this weekend. Oh, yeah.
- 48:43Speaker 1: Well, I was going to tell you, they've got four wins.
- 48:46Speaker 1: They're going to be four and eight at the end
- 48:48Speaker 1: of the year. They are going to win this weekend
- 48:49Speaker 1: against Kentucky.
- 48:51Speaker 2: I got nationally ranked Kentucky number 24.
- 48:54Speaker 1: Don't tell anybody outside of the SEC that. Then they
- 48:57Speaker 1: go to Florida. They've got Tennessee. They go to Oklahoma.
- 49:00Speaker 1: They've got A & M. They go to Arkansas. They'll
- 49:03Speaker 1: find one of those wins. Georgia at Clemson. I think
- 49:06Speaker 1: they're 4-8, back-to-back 4-8s. They have no shot at winning
- 49:09Speaker 1: six games.
- 49:10Speaker 2: No shot. What do you think Allen Iverson would say
- 49:12Speaker 2: about that soundbite? Practice. We're talking practice.
- 49:14Speaker 1: We're talking practice.
- 49:16Speaker 2: Practice. Not a game. Not a game. Next up, I
- 49:18Speaker 2: know Auburn fans don't want to hear this.
- 49:20Speaker 1: This.
- 49:20Speaker 2: So not even a bowl game. Not even a bowl game.
- 49:22Speaker 2: They don't even come to Vestavia Bowl. They are 3-1. Yeah,
- 49:25Speaker 2: they are 3-1. They played Florida. Am I right about this?
- 49:27Speaker 2: They played Florida closer than anybody yet?
- 49:29Speaker 1: And we said if Auburn was going to have a
- 49:32Speaker 1: semi-special season, they have to finish the month of September unblemished.
- 49:36Speaker 1: that they had to win that Florida game. We talked
- 49:38Speaker 1: about if they wanted to get to their ceiling, which
- 49:40Speaker 1: was eight or nine wins, they're three and one, which
- 49:42Speaker 1: is good.
- 49:43Speaker 2: Okay, but my ceiling now is a little tiny house.
- 49:45Speaker 2: I'm trying to get to six and six. You just
- 49:46Speaker 2: give me the wins, okay? Give me the six. Here
- 49:48Speaker 2: we go, Jim. We're at three. At Tennessee this weekend.
- 49:50Speaker 2: Don't like it. There's a fighting chance. There is a
- 49:52Speaker 2: fighting chance. I don't like it.
- 49:53Speaker 1: The familiarity between Golish and Hypo. There's some interesting storylines there,
- 49:58Speaker 1: but I just believe Tennessee wins that game. They're a
- 50:00Speaker 1: seven and a half point favorite.
- 50:01Speaker 2: At Georgia.
- 50:01Speaker 1: No.
- 50:02Speaker 2: LSU. LSU. I mean, LSU is.
- 50:08Speaker 2: LSU's defense is way too good for that. It's hard
- 50:09Speaker 2: to see.
- 50:10Speaker 1: That offense is going to be a step slow against
- 50:13Speaker 1: LSU's defense.
- 50:13Speaker 2: To your point, what I've seen from Auburn's offensive line
- 50:17Speaker 2: so much, Byron Brown surviving Knoxville is going to be hard.
- 50:21Speaker 2: then Georgia, then LSU. I mean, those pass rushes, they're
- 50:25Speaker 2: real the next three.
- 50:26Speaker 1: Okay, and by that time, you probably have three straight losses.
- 50:29Speaker 1: Then you go to Oxford to take on Ole Miss.
- 50:32Speaker 1: Are you giving them a win there?
- 50:33Speaker 2: Yeah. Seems like that will be a— The best chance
- 50:36Speaker 2: of the ones you've brought up so far. Yeah, but
- 50:37Speaker 2: that seems like it'll be much like against Florida, a
- 50:40Speaker 2: high score, and you're going to have to score a
- 50:41Speaker 2: lot of points to keep up. So now you're 3-5
- 50:43Speaker 2: if you lose that. You're 3-5, so you've got to.
- 50:45Speaker 1: Find— Arkansas at home would give them that one.
- 50:47Speaker 2: There's your win. 4-5. At Mississippi State. I don't see
- 50:52Speaker 2: it right now. Yeah, I'm going to need to see some.
- 50:54Speaker 2: I really want to see State Saturday against Bama and
- 50:57Speaker 2: then see what happens after that.
- 50:58Speaker 1: Samford, we give them one there, and then they play
- 51:01Speaker 1: at Alabama. I think they're 5-7. And that's a very,
- 51:04Speaker 1: very disappointing year. Now, that all flips if you win
- 51:07Speaker 1: this weekend.
- 51:08Speaker 2: Yeah, if you win this weekend, you've got to revisit it.
- 51:09Speaker 1: But just based on the projection, they will lose this weekend.
- 51:11Speaker 1: This next one is really, really surprising.
- 51:14Speaker 2: Navy, yeah. So you don't think Navy goes to a
- 51:16Speaker 2: bowl game? Just let me go through it for you. Bad,
- 51:19Speaker 2: bad loss for them Friday night at UAB. It was.
- 51:21Speaker 1: And if they can lose to UAB, they're now 0-2
- 51:23Speaker 1: in the American. Here's what they've got coming up. They're
- 51:25Speaker 1: dogs this week at Air Force. Very winnable game.
- 51:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 51:29Speaker 2: But I kind of lean Air Force in that game.
- 51:31Speaker 2: Altitude game. I lean Navy. Okay.
- 51:33Speaker 1: They've got Tulsa after that coin flip.
- 51:36Speaker 2: Oh, Navy beats Tulsa. Tulsa sucks. Mike's on the back. Yep.
- 51:39Speaker 2: They go to UTSA. That's a loss.
- 51:42Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 51:43Speaker 1: North Texas, one of the best rosters in the American.
- 51:46Speaker 1: That's a coin flip. Notre Dame, that's a loss. Temple
- 51:49Speaker 1: will give them a win. Memphis, I think that's a loss.
- 51:52Speaker 1: At Charlotte, then Army. I think Army-Navy is for a bull.
- 51:55Speaker 2: Bid for Navy.
- 51:56Speaker 7: Wow.
- 51:57Speaker 2: For Navy. What about Army, you think?
- 51:59Speaker 1: I think Army's probably got one locked up at that point.
- 52:02Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah. And then finally. With Navy, I mean, somebody's
- 52:06Speaker 2: got Navy in the playoffs up here. Who was that?
- 52:09Speaker 2: This is why they're searching for a bull bid. Well,
- 52:10Speaker 2: I mean.
- 52:11Speaker 1: The Navy was coming off back-to-back double-digit wins. And, you know,
- 52:14Speaker 1: it was, I don't want to say it was trendy,
- 52:16Speaker 1: but I, you know, you weren't the only person that
- 52:19Speaker 1: said that.
- 52:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I had Navy as my group of six if
- 52:21Speaker 2: you weren't with us.
- 52:22Speaker 1: Yeah, and the Big 12, hard to believe, TCU just,
- 52:25Speaker 1: how was it, five years ago, four years ago, going
- 52:28Speaker 1: on five years, played for a national championship.
- 52:30Speaker 2: They're coming off a.
- 52:31Speaker 1: Nine-win season, back-to-back nine-win seasons for Sonny Dyches. They've got
- 52:35Speaker 1: BYU this weekend. They're sitting at 2-2. They've got to
- 52:38Speaker 1: go to Baylor. They've got West Virginia, Kansas, at Arizona,
- 52:41Speaker 1: Kansas State, Utah, and Texas Tech.
- 52:43Speaker 2: Hard to find six wins there. I don't think they're
- 52:45Speaker 2: getting six wins. They need four more wins. Kansas is bad.
- 52:48Speaker 2: I'll give them Kansas. That's three. Now you've got to
- 52:50Speaker 2: find three more.
- 52:51Speaker 1: You're just not going to find three more on that schedule.
- 52:55Speaker 1: That is going to be five really, really disappointing fan
- 52:58Speaker 1: bases this year.
- 52:58Speaker 2: This is why we should not have preseason polls. Yeah.
- 53:01Speaker 2: How many were in those preseason polls? Not many. I
- 53:04Speaker 2: don't think any. South Carolina. I don't think any. Or Navy.
- 53:06Speaker 2: Maybe some Navy.
- 53:08Speaker 1: But, I mean, if I would have told you guys
- 53:10Speaker 1: that these five teams, if I would have gone to
- 53:12Speaker 1: Hard Rock and I would have said, give me a
- 53:14Speaker 1: dollar parlay on these five teams not to make a
- 53:16Speaker 1: bowl game.
- 53:16Speaker 2: We'd be showing your ticket right now. You would be. Absolutely.
- 53:19Speaker 2: All right. If you just see the screenshot of that
- 53:21Speaker 2: right there and you're passing us, don't think that's something
- 53:24Speaker 2: good about your team. That's five teams that are not
- 53:26Speaker 2: going to go to a bowl game according to Lance.
- 53:28Speaker 1: Do you think any fan base would battle me on
- 53:30Speaker 1: that right now after one month?
- 53:31Speaker 2: I think Auburn would. Okay. Yeah. They are three and one,
- 53:34Speaker 2: so it does feel different. But I think they also
- 53:36Speaker 2: look at their upcoming schedule like, dang. And they knew
- 53:38Speaker 2: that upcoming schedule. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because I will say,
- 53:40Speaker 2: because you had Florida number one in your– if we
- 53:42Speaker 2: did the poll today– They did play them. A very
- 53:46Speaker 2: hypothetical poll, yes. They did play them harder than anybody
- 53:49Speaker 2: else to date. When we come back, Brandon Marcello joins
- 53:52Speaker 2: the show. This is the next round presented by Hard
- 53:54Speaker 2: Rock Bet on Sporting State.
