Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: This podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to Meat Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:13Speaker 2: conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer Newhart, and today
- 0:17Speaker 2: we're joined by Stephen Ranella, Giannis Putellis, Brody Henderson, Brent Reeves, Randall, Williams,
- 0:23Speaker 2: Krine Schneider, Ronnie Bame, and Angela Perry. Ronnie, this is
- 0:28Speaker 2: your first time on Meat Eater Trivia. How do you
- 0:30Speaker 2: think you're gonna do?
- 0:32Speaker 3: I'm just shooting for the Shelby Index, Okay, I don't.
- 0:36Speaker 3: After this went on about two months, huh, I started getting.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Worse and worse scores.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Really yeah, I think cooking and conservation might be my
- 0:44Speaker 3: weak spots.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Uh huh.
- 0:45Speaker 4: So that's that's knocking out of fifty percent of the questions.
- 0:48Speaker 2: I think the Asper tam in that diet coke.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Now, I was gonna ask if we could bring a
- 0:55Speaker 3: beard here, because then I would be more fluid.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Now you got some nicotine in you between, I mean
- 1:00Speaker 2: the podcast episode in trivia. You think this that will
- 1:04Speaker 2: make you sharper, then that will help.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Is definitely a stimulant.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Oh good good.
- 1:08Speaker 5: Angela also does it let you know things you don't know?
- 1:12Speaker 5: I can see in the dark you feel better though, Yeah,
- 1:17Speaker 5: but it's like it's not, oh my bone to pick Angela.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Angel also your first time on the show. Steve is eager.
- 1:25Speaker 2: He's been talking about it for hours. Angela, first time
- 1:28Speaker 2: on the show. How do you think you're gonna do it?
- 1:30Speaker 1: Trivia?
- 1:30Speaker 2: That's hunting, fishing, conservation, cooking, and.
- 1:34Speaker 6: Under promise and over deliver.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, okay today good. I would imagine you have
- 1:40Speaker 2: a lot of trivia in your brain. Uh, maybe not
- 1:43Speaker 2: as much from these four categories though. Do you think
- 1:45Speaker 2: that's true?
- 1:46Speaker 6: Well, we're about to find out.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Okay, do you consume a lot of trivia in your
- 1:50Speaker 2: your personal life?
- 1:51Speaker 4: I do?
- 1:51Speaker 6: Highly competitive?
- 1:52Speaker 2: Really like what.
- 1:54Speaker 6: You know, it was a big Jeopardy person, trivial person.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Or still are was what happened?
- 2:02Speaker 6: I mean Alex was gone. Really just went downhill from there. Okay,
- 2:08Speaker 6: so yeah, I think.
- 2:10Speaker 4: You'll do Okay that you had such a look.
- 2:13Speaker 5: I was surprised that she would quit. Over the host.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Steve Arms crossed over here. We're gonna straight up skip
- 2:25Speaker 2: our stat and our zero per center this week so
- 2:28Speaker 2: we can address whatever this bone is. So go ahead.
- 2:30Speaker 5: It's not that take that long. Okay, we'll go Now
- 2:32Speaker 5: you put trivia questions on the website.
- 2:35Speaker 2: We we did for a little while over there.
- 2:37Speaker 5: Now some of them, well one I wasn't here for it,
- 2:41Speaker 5: so I just saw it. But it's so stupid. It's
- 2:43Speaker 5: like you had a triviata question about what Anthony Bourdain
- 2:46Speaker 5: said to Oprah win for you, how you're so far
- 2:49Speaker 5: off from the cooking ones? Anyways, go back to that one.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Did you get that one wrong or what?
- 2:54Speaker 5: Well, no, because it's in his book, but at least
- 2:55Speaker 5: tie it back to the book. Why tie it to
- 2:57Speaker 5: like an interview with Oprah Winfrey? So it's a bad
- 2:59Speaker 5: boys chef talks to a daytime TV host and you
- 3:02Speaker 5: feel that fits on me eater trivia?
- 3:03Speaker 2: Well, here's here's the sausage being made again. It was
- 3:06Speaker 2: I could we could then have Anthony Bourdain talking on
- 3:11Speaker 2: the TV to which our YouTube audience could watch. Are
- 3:15Speaker 2: you with me?
- 3:17Speaker 5: Still stupid?
- 3:18Speaker 2: Okay? That's that's your whole bone? Yeah, okay, I was.
- 3:22Speaker 2: I was worried.
- 3:24Speaker 5: It's part of a broader bone, the cooking thing where
- 3:27Speaker 5: you you have some that are so outside of what
- 3:30Speaker 5: was another one? What?
- 3:32Speaker 1: Look, it's been an ongoing problem.
- 3:34Speaker 5: What color our peppers. You know, that's not as bad.
- 3:38Speaker 4: That's not bad.
- 3:40Speaker 5: There's a bunch of it's kind of sure. It feels
- 3:43Speaker 5: a food trivia show. But I don't understand what Oprah
- 3:45Speaker 5: win for you talking to a to a TV another
- 3:49Speaker 5: t a TV host talking to a TV host about
- 3:52Speaker 5: butter has. It just has nothing to.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Do with anything like some of our questions.
- 3:58Speaker 1: That's the old one though, isn't it.
- 4:00Speaker 2: So? I feel like you've been kind of staying.
- 4:04Speaker 1: In between the guidelines a little better.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I upset you every now and then, Brody, it still happens. Yeah,
- 4:10Speaker 2: we have some housekeeping to get to you. During a
- 4:12Speaker 2: previous episode, Steve opined about Democrats being more likely than
- 4:17Speaker 2: Republicans to believe in ghosts that as a twenty nineteen
- 4:20Speaker 2: UGOV surveys showed it's actually the other way around. Their
- 4:24Speaker 2: data proved that Republicans are more likely than Democrats to
- 4:27Speaker 2: believe in ghosts, demons, and vampire vampires Steve then and vampires.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Steve then said that he worried his other political profiling
- 4:37Speaker 2: might be wrong, which is that Democrats are more likely
- 4:40Speaker 2: than Republicans to be gluten intolerant. Well, a twenty nineteen
- 4:44Speaker 2: study by Michigan State University answered that exact question. Professors
- 4:49Speaker 2: Trey Malone and Bailey Norwood surveyed over one thousand Americans
- 4:52Speaker 2: and asked them questions about their politics and their diet.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Three of the questions were to establish a gluten aversion
- 4:59Speaker 2: in deck, and one question was about who their favorite
- 5:02Speaker 2: president was between Trump, Obama, Bush, and Clinton. Steve, Before
- 5:07Speaker 2: I reveal the results, do you have any final predictions
- 5:09Speaker 2: about which president was the favorite among the gluten intolerant voters?
- 5:15Speaker 4: No?
- 5:15Speaker 5: Obama.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Here's what the study showed. Respondents who were the most
- 5:20Speaker 2: gluten avoidant said that their favorite president was Donald Trump.
- 5:24Speaker 2: The paper concluded that there's no evidence that the political
- 5:28Speaker 2: left is more likely than the political right to have
- 5:31Speaker 2: a gluten sensitivity.
- 5:33Speaker 5: Well, it gives me in real trouble with someone. I
- 5:36Speaker 5: told him, Matt, and he said that's true? Or that's
- 5:39Speaker 5: you think that's true and it's true?
- 5:44Speaker 2: Who is that person? Do you need to issue an
- 5:45Speaker 2: apology to that?
- 5:46Speaker 5: It was on the episode called The Guru Comes or
- 5:49Speaker 5: the what the hell is it called The Guru Comes
- 5:52Speaker 5: Up for Air? The Guru Comes Up for Air.
- 5:54Speaker 2: The paper did point out, though, that there are other
- 5:57Speaker 2: dietary choices that go hand in hand with politics. For example,
- 6:01Speaker 2: in twenty twelve, Barack Obama won seventy seven percent of
- 6:05Speaker 2: counties with a whole foods but lost seventy one percent
- 6:08Speaker 2: of counties with a cracker barrel.
- 6:13Speaker 5: Have you seen have you ever seen Ian Frazier's thing
- 6:18Speaker 5: about voting trends in wild hog densities.
- 6:24Speaker 2: I've heard you talk about it, but I haven't seen
- 6:26Speaker 2: it myself. There's a good correlation, very high correlation, Steve.
- 6:30Speaker 2: You've now learned that Republicans are actually the party of
- 6:33Speaker 2: gluten and ghost sensitivity. Do you have any other political
- 6:36Speaker 2: stereotypes you'd like me to check in on?
- 6:38Speaker 5: Well, why you're trying to Republicans really liked COVID restrictions.
- 6:44Speaker 2: I think we can go without fact checking that. One
- 6:47Speaker 2: one that I've noticed kind of my whole life is
- 6:49Speaker 2: it seems like blue states have slower speed limits than
- 6:52Speaker 2: red states. Something when I have to look into because
- 6:55Speaker 2: of the nanny state, Because of the nanny state.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I got one for you.
- 6:59Speaker 5: Okay, kids wearing bike helmets, no, angela.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Do we respect Michigan State University and their studies? Does that?
- 7:09Speaker 2: Does that check out? You? Think we're okay with the results. Yeah, okay,
- 7:14Speaker 2: I can't tell.
- 7:15Speaker 4: You that topic.
- 7:17Speaker 5: We're gonna move on from there to tell you tell
- 7:21Speaker 5: them later.
- 7:23Speaker 2: The Shelby index for today's round is a three, so
- 7:26Speaker 2: our winner should get six correct answers. And with that
- 7:29Speaker 2: we're onto the game of trivia played the drop phill.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Look what I stand to win?
- 7:36Speaker 2: Everything that wasn't an accident?
- 7:40Speaker 1: Just tend to win everything.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Game on Suckers. Question one. The topic is biology and
- 7:53Speaker 2: this will be multiple choice, and this first great question
- 7:56Speaker 2: comes to us via colon Sykes. If you have a
- 7:59Speaker 2: question you think is right for Meat Eater Trivia, you
- 8:01Speaker 2: can send it to trivia at the meat eater dot com.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Which of these animals has the longest gestation period? Cougar, muskrat, kyote,
- 8:12Speaker 2: or cariboo. Topic is biology. Which of these animals has
- 8:18Speaker 2: the longest gestation period? Cougar, muskrat, kyote, cariboo. Our players
- 8:28Speaker 2: have been slow to answer. No one is looking confident cougar, muskrat, kyote, cariboo.
- 8:40Speaker 1: M H.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Brent, You were the quickest to answer. Is this is
- 8:45Speaker 2: this confidence? Is it a guest? Do you not want
- 8:47Speaker 2: to think about it any longer. So you're just gonna
- 8:49Speaker 2: come up with something with my guts. Okay, now you
- 8:54Speaker 2: said you want to not just his guts, said multiple us.
- 9:04Speaker 5: That's like.
- 9:07Speaker 1: You gotta get the whole thing.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Does everybody have an answer for the longest gestation period?
- 9:13Speaker 5: Stomachs?
- 9:14Speaker 2: Like, does everybody have an answer? Go ahead and reveal
- 9:20Speaker 2: your answers. We have Angela saying cougar, Ronnie saying cariboo,
- 9:24Speaker 2: Krin saying muskrat. Brod You's saying cariboo, Randall saying cariboo,
- 9:29Speaker 2: Yanna saying cariboo, Steve saying cariboo. Brent saying cariboo. The
- 9:34Speaker 2: correct answer, but.
- 9:37Speaker 6: I mean there's one that's like more obvious.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Than the correct answer is cariboo out in. Cariboo's gestation
- 9:47Speaker 2: period is two hundred and thirty days. That's followed by
- 9:50Speaker 2: cougar at ninety days, coyote at sixty days, and muskrat
- 9:54Speaker 2: at thirty days. A general rule among mammals is that
- 9:57Speaker 2: the larger the animal, the longer the gestation period. An
- 10:00Speaker 2: extreme example is an elephant, which hands a gestation period
- 10:04Speaker 2: of six hundred and sixty days, versus a mouse, which
- 10:07Speaker 2: hands a gestation period of twenty days.
- 10:09Speaker 5: Does it have a name, like a principle?
- 10:12Speaker 1: The name of that, I haven't heard it.
- 10:13Speaker 2: We can come up with them on right now. The
- 10:15Speaker 2: meat eater principle. They're an R species? What's that?
- 10:19Speaker 6: An R species?
- 10:20Speaker 2: What does that mean?
- 10:21Speaker 5: That just breaks the world two groups?
- 10:24Speaker 2: Slow turnips you, Mike Forest please?
- 10:27Speaker 6: Yeah, Steve just said it breaks it into several.
- 10:29Speaker 5: Groups, saying when there's R and P or R, it's like, yeah,
- 10:34Speaker 5: high for canity, low investmentity, high investment.
- 10:37Speaker 6: Their turn is very slow.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Question two, The topic is conservation. What conservation organization changed
- 10:47Speaker 2: their magazine name to Covers in twenty nineteen? What conservation
- 10:55Speaker 2: organization changed their magazine name to Covers in twenty nineteen?
- 11:00Speaker 2: The question is behind you, Steve, if you need to
- 11:03Speaker 2: see it in front of you, Angela, What do we
- 11:08Speaker 2: know about the gestation period of dire wolves? Do you
- 11:11Speaker 2: think it was the same as a gray wolf?
- 11:15Speaker 6: Yeah, hard to say, probably.
- 11:16Speaker 2: We don't know. Okay, again, what conservation organization changed their
- 11:22Speaker 2: magazine name to Covers in twenty nineteen? The room looks stumped,
- 11:31Speaker 2: not at all, kriinn. I think we're waiting on.
- 11:34Speaker 1: You, Okay, Ronnie, be quiet.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Ronnie is helping out the Brent. Are you ready?
- 11:41Speaker 5: Yeah, I need somebody to be you.
- 11:42Speaker 4: What Ronnie said.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Is everybody ready? Brent, I'm ready. Go ahead and reveal
- 11:54Speaker 2: your answers. This was a bone I was throwing to
- 11:57Speaker 2: Ronnie which he was trying to give away. Angela says
- 11:59Speaker 2: Nature Conservancy. Ronnie says Roffed Grouse Society. Corent without an answer.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Brodie's saying Rouffed Grouse Society, Randall saying Sierra Club. Giannis
- 12:09Speaker 2: saying pheasants forever. Stee, you're saying quail forever, Brent without
- 12:13Speaker 2: an answer. The correct answer is Ruffed Grouse Society or
- 12:19Speaker 2: a society I got it was that his bone. It's
- 12:26Speaker 2: the Rough Grouse Society, or there's the American Woodcock Society.
- 12:31Speaker 2: The magazine used to be called Ruffed Grouse Society, and
- 12:35Speaker 2: before that it was called RGS, and before that it
- 12:38Speaker 2: was called The Drummer. According to the group's president, those
- 12:41Speaker 2: names didn't fully capture their cause, so they changed the
- 12:44Speaker 2: name to Covers a few years ago. They said they
- 12:47Speaker 2: worked to conserve wildlife habitat in the form of cover,
- 12:50Speaker 2: which benefits rabbits, deer, grouse, and more. Ronnie that was
- 12:54Speaker 2: the bone I was throwing to you because you do
- 12:56Speaker 2: a lot of work with Roffed Grouse Society. What do
- 12:58Speaker 2: you like about what they got going on?
- 13:02Speaker 3: Oh, the active forestry and the emphasis now on like
- 13:10Speaker 3: getting the states and the federal governments or the federal force.
- 13:13Speaker 3: I don't want to see departments, whatever it is. They're
- 13:16Speaker 3: getting a much stronger voice in active logging, an act
- 13:19Speaker 3: that it just needed. The forests are just way too
- 13:21Speaker 3: old and for years it's been kind of a taboo
- 13:24Speaker 3: thing and they're really breaking through that. Even down in
- 13:28Speaker 3: the Indiappollachians and Carolinas and stuff. They're really making a
- 13:32Speaker 3: big change.
- 13:32Speaker 2: So do you like the magazine name covers? Do you
- 13:35Speaker 2: feel like that was a good switch for them?
- 13:38Speaker 4: I didn't think they needed it, but you know, yeah,
- 13:40Speaker 4: I don't think.
- 13:40Speaker 2: That the og one they had of the drummer that
- 13:43Speaker 2: seems perfect. They need to.
- 13:48Speaker 5: The search continues continues coming.
- 13:50Speaker 2: From the founder of Meat Eater.
- 13:53Speaker 5: Question three.
- 13:54Speaker 2: The topic is fishing. This is our listener question of
- 13:57Speaker 2: the Week, which was won by Andrew Hakim for sending
- 14:00Speaker 2: this great question. Andrew is going to get a book
- 14:02Speaker 2: signed by Steve Florida and Blank were the only states
- 14:08Speaker 2: in twenty twenty two that had one point five million
- 14:12Speaker 2: more pishing license holders than hunting license holders. Florida and
- 14:19Speaker 2: Blank were the only states in twenty twenty two that
- 14:24Speaker 2: had one point five million more phishing license holders than
- 14:28Speaker 2: hunting license holders. You need to tell me what that
- 14:31Speaker 2: other state is. Florida and Blank, they were the only
- 14:39Speaker 2: states that sold that had one point five million more fishes.
- 14:43Speaker 1: One point five or more or one point five.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Actually one point five literally one point five million more.
- 14:51Speaker 5: There's no way that's literally true.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Do you know what I pounds it's like one point
- 14:56Speaker 2: five to two and the other one's like one point
- 14:58Speaker 2: four to nine.
- 15:00Speaker 7: Are there are there states that have two million more
- 15:03Speaker 7: fishing licenses?
- 15:05Speaker 2: These these would be the states with the most. They
- 15:07Speaker 2: have the largest discrepancy at one point five.
- 15:10Speaker 5: Been much better word, because are there some with one seven,
- 15:13Speaker 5: one eight, two point one?
- 15:14Speaker 2: They are not? This is the most that's it's a
- 15:16Speaker 2: you know what, that's a good criticism, good criticism. Here's
- 15:19Speaker 2: the question again. Florida and Blank were the only state
- 15:22Speaker 2: goes in twenty twenty That's that's all I'm after. Florida
- 15:27Speaker 2: and Blank were the only states in twenty twenty two
- 15:29Speaker 2: that had one point five million more phishing license holders
- 15:32Speaker 2: than hunting license holders. Does everybody have an answer?
- 15:38Speaker 1: I don't like this question.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Randall hasn't complained yet. Randal, what do you think of
- 15:43Speaker 2: this question? Do you have it right?
- 15:44Speaker 5: I would have gone with what two states have the
- 15:49Speaker 5: largest power? I would have thought about it, the largest
- 15:52Speaker 5: discrepancy between hunters and anglers. I'll put it this way.
- 15:55Speaker 3: I haven't had nearly so much of a problem with
- 15:59Speaker 3: understanding where the questions asking.
- 16:01Speaker 4: I just have nothing to go on.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Okay, you know everybody have an answer.
- 16:04Speaker 5: It's just a good r I'm pretty sure I arrived
- 16:06Speaker 5: at it as much as I just liked the question.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Angela saying California,
- 16:12Speaker 2: Ronnie saying Texas, Corn saying Texas, Brody saying California, Randall
- 16:18Speaker 2: saying California, Jannis and Steve both saying California, Brent saying Maryland.
- 16:24Speaker 2: We have a correct answer in the room. It's California.
- 16:28Speaker 2: A lot of players did pretty well last year. Both
- 16:31Speaker 2: Florida and Texas had one point seven million fishing license
- 16:35Speaker 2: holders versus two hundred thousand hunting license holders. They were
- 16:40Speaker 2: by far the biggest discrepancy in the country. The next
- 16:43Speaker 2: closest states are Texas, Minnesota, and North Carolina, which have
- 16:47Speaker 2: about nine hundred thousand more fishing license holders than hunting
- 16:51Speaker 2: license holders. Question four, The topic is hunting. This is
- 16:56Speaker 2: a visual question. To see what the room is seeing,
- 16:59Speaker 2: go watch this at on Meat Eater's YouTube channel. Here's
- 17:03Speaker 2: the prompt. This ancient dog breed that hales from Asia
- 17:07Speaker 2: has a history of hunting wolves and leopards.
- 17:11Speaker 6: Oh my god, my dad had one of these dogs
- 17:14Speaker 6: and I can't think of it.
- 17:15Speaker 2: This ancient dog breed that hales from Asia has a
- 17:19Speaker 2: history of hunting wolves and leopards.
- 17:24Speaker 6: I mean it has kind of two names.
- 17:26Speaker 2: But okay, she's got a bone to pick with you.
- 17:30Speaker 2: I didn't suspect that would be the case.
- 17:32Speaker 4: Would you mind showing me one of them?
- 17:36Speaker 2: This ancient dog breed that hails from Asia has a
- 17:38Speaker 2: history of hunting wolves and leopards. You can see the
- 17:42Speaker 2: photo of this dog on our YouTube channel.
- 17:45Speaker 4: Did you have something to throw an angel it?
- 17:47Speaker 6: I take issue with ancient.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Okay, does everybody have an answer? Thanks? I don't Randall,
- 18:03Speaker 2: You're not gonna talk one, no.
- 18:06Speaker 4: Just put a question mark.
- 18:07Speaker 6: I think, is this the one that, like one of
- 18:09Speaker 6: them sold for like an an insane amount of.
- 18:14Speaker 5: I mean goggs. I don't know so well. Rginia, I
- 18:17Speaker 5: do not like that kind of chichen.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Now, Brody, your dad had one of these before the
- 18:22Speaker 2: answer and you you don't know what it is.
- 18:26Speaker 4: Maybe it was Man.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I can't remember. I'll know when I hear the answer,
- 18:30Speaker 1: but I don't have an answer.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Ronnie, do you know this one is a dog?
- 18:34Speaker 6: Guy?
- 18:35Speaker 4: I recognize it.
- 18:36Speaker 3: I feel fifty to fifty that I feel fifty fifty.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Okay, it's everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 18:51Speaker 2: We have Angela saying Tibetan mastiff or chow chow, Ronnie
- 18:56Speaker 2: saying chow Charm saying chow chow. Brodie without an answer,
- 19:01Speaker 2: Randall without an answer, Yannis saying Caucasian, she spelled it
- 19:05Speaker 2: wrongchow like Damn Rent saying Akita. The correct answer is
- 19:13Speaker 2: the chow chow. This side of the room did very well.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Some sources say the chow chow was domesticated about three
- 19:20Speaker 2: thousand years ago in Archaic Asia, the Tang Empire, which
- 19:24Speaker 2: ruled from six eighteen to nine oh seven had a
- 19:27Speaker 2: special relationship with the dog breed. Emperors of the Tang
- 19:30Speaker 2: dynasty had kennels made up of twenty five thousand chow chows,
- 19:34Speaker 2: which they used for hunting, herding, guarding, and sled pulling. Angela,
- 19:40Speaker 2: what other fun facts can you share with us about
- 19:42Speaker 2: the chow chow? Why isn't it an ancient breed? And
- 19:45Speaker 2: did you hunt with one in Japan?
- 19:47Speaker 8: Oh?
- 19:47Speaker 6: No, because they're not from Japan.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Okay.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Might question.
- 19:58Speaker 6: There is what there's some story if you google it,
- 20:01Speaker 6: you google it, there's a story like recently some one
- 20:05Speaker 6: sold for like an insane amount of money. You know
- 20:09Speaker 6: that was like a breeder from a famous breeder or
- 20:14Speaker 6: something like that. So what we know about ancient dog
- 20:19Speaker 6: reeds is that dogs that look ancient, like genetically like
- 20:22Speaker 6: a chow chow, that they look ancient and genetically are
- 20:28Speaker 6: ancient what we would call a basil breed because they
- 20:31Speaker 6: were geographically and culturally isolated. So all ancient breed dogs
- 20:36Speaker 6: only appear ancient because they were in locations that had
- 20:40Speaker 6: very little ad mixture and interbreeding with other types of dogs,
- 20:43Speaker 6: so they they have that kind of pure lineage that
- 20:47Speaker 6: didn't have a lot of mixture. But they're not know
- 20:50Speaker 6: this dog is a mix of lots of things.
- 20:53Speaker 2: I'm ancient. I'm almost certain I was referencing one of
- 20:55Speaker 2: your papers that call this a basal breed, which others
- 21:00Speaker 2: horses then called an ancient dog breed. So you'd say
- 21:03Speaker 2: it is or is not an ancient dog breed.
- 21:07Speaker 6: Ancient, the most ancient ancient. I tell people, if you
- 21:10Speaker 6: want an ancient dog, the real most ancient unmixed dog
- 21:15Speaker 6: is a husky or malamet or something like that. Followed
- 21:18Speaker 6: very closely by our recent genetic work on what are
- 21:24Speaker 6: they called Carolina dogs? You know Carolina dogs. I do
- 21:27Speaker 6: not know that one dog that kind of pulled all
- 21:30Speaker 6: the swamps of the Carolinas and are probably an ancient
- 21:34Speaker 6: type of American dog dogs brought here with first Native
- 21:38Speaker 6: Americans and kind of got lost in the swamps with
- 21:39Speaker 6: the Carolinas and are now a primitive.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Dog breed, almost like a dingo is in Australia.
- 21:45Speaker 6: There's something interesting about all kind of like village dogs, right,
- 21:49Speaker 6: They all the same. They all look like dingos, medium size,
- 21:52Speaker 6: kind of yellowish, some white patches, pricked ears, some some
- 21:55Speaker 6: my curly tail. They all dogs converge into this look
- 21:59Speaker 6: when they just kind of a mixy.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Question if you're just a quick question, he got.
- 22:05Speaker 5: If you're wrong about so many parts of the question,
- 22:08Speaker 5: at what point? At what point is it? Does the
- 22:11Speaker 5: question get scratched and we replace it?
- 22:13Speaker 2: Question five? The topic is cooking.
- 22:16Speaker 5: But you can ignore it, but it can't be. It's
- 22:19Speaker 5: like the question can't be ignored. My question can't be.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Was the question wrong? Angela?
- 22:23Speaker 5: It wasn't from Japan and it's not ancient.
- 22:25Speaker 2: I never said it was from Japan. I said it
- 22:27Speaker 2: hailed from Asia. I was worried that when she was
- 22:29Speaker 2: talking about hunting in Japan, she may bring up some
- 22:31Speaker 2: of the Asian breeds, this being one of them.
- 22:35Speaker 6: Will accept ancient would be more correct.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Question five, The topic is cooking. What organization started their
- 22:42Speaker 2: annual awards show for chefs, restaurants and authors in nineteen ninety.
- 22:51Speaker 2: What organization started their annual awards show for chefs, restaurants
- 22:56Speaker 2: and authors in nineteen ninety. Fairly confident room except for
- 23:03Speaker 2: maybe Ronnie.
- 23:05Speaker 4: What was it?
- 23:07Speaker 2: I don't see it should have had a little more nicotine.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Maybe it just came to him. Maybe Okay, Brody is
- 23:17Speaker 2: at a disgusted little confidence, he breathed. Brody is deciding
- 23:26Speaker 2: on something. Does everybody have an answer? What organization started
- 23:32Speaker 2: their annual show for Chef's Restaurant.
- 23:35Speaker 1: I don't want to turn a right answer.
- 23:38Speaker 2: In nineteen ninety much, but you don't want to leave
- 23:43Speaker 2: a wrong answer as it is.
- 23:45Speaker 9: Well, I don't know what we've gone through this where
- 23:48Speaker 9: what is a wrong answer?
- 23:49Speaker 2: And what is is everybody ready? Brody? I think we're
- 23:55Speaker 2: waiting on confimation.
- 23:57Speaker 1: I don't want to add this.
- 23:59Speaker 7: See how much this is. That's why I had to
- 24:01Speaker 7: have Spencer play so he.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Could have some fun.
- 24:03Speaker 3: Yeah, next time I come out, Yeah.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Brody questions, everyone has an answer?
- 24:14Speaker 2: I think you're waiting.
- 24:18Speaker 4: No, No, I'm okay.
- 24:19Speaker 2: I can't remember that.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Bro Okay, go.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Ahead and reveal your answers. We have Angela. I was
- 24:27Speaker 2: like Ronnie saying, James Beard, saying James Beard. Brody saying
- 24:32Speaker 2: James Beard. James Beard got it wrong. Everybody said James Beard.
- 24:36Speaker 5: You guys don't have it.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Give me the question they have it. It's what organization?
- 24:41Speaker 2: The correct answer is the James Beard Foundation. If you
- 24:45Speaker 2: just said James Beard, we will give it to you.
- 24:47Speaker 1: That's what I was wondering about.
- 24:48Speaker 2: The James Beard Foundation was created in nineteen eighty six
- 24:52Speaker 2: by a former student of James Beard. The nonprofit is
- 24:55Speaker 2: famous for their dinners, scholarships, and accolades. The awards show,
- 24:59Speaker 2: which has been held in New York City in Chicago,
- 25:02Speaker 2: is often referred to as the Oscars of the food World. Steve,
- 25:06Speaker 2: you were nominated for one twice twice. Not a winner though,
- 25:11Speaker 2: was it? One was for the Wild Within What was
- 25:13Speaker 2: the other one? No?
- 25:15Speaker 5: No, media was nominated twice.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Okay, good on you fail. We are halfway through the
- 25:21Speaker 2: game of trivia. Give us a scoreboard update.
- 25:24Speaker 9: Everyone's doing pretty well. We've got Angela, Corin and Brent
- 25:27Speaker 9: All with two points apiece, Jannis, Steve and Randall have
- 25:31Speaker 9: three points and tied up in first place are Brody
- 25:34Speaker 9: and Ronnie with four points.
- 25:36Speaker 4: Wow.
- 25:39Speaker 3: Does this go to Steve's thing that the oldest guys
- 25:41Speaker 3: in a room do better? Because it doesn't work when
- 25:43Speaker 3: I play at home, Steve.
- 25:45Speaker 5: But it might be because you got basically thrown two bones.
- 25:49Speaker 4: I thought, yeah, the nicotine.
- 25:52Speaker 2: And right now.
- 25:59Speaker 8: Society question six, the topic is phishing.
- 26:12Speaker 2: This next great question comes to us via Hayley Adams.
- 26:15Speaker 2: If you have a question you think it's right for
- 26:16Speaker 2: media to trivia, you can send it to trivia at
- 26:19Speaker 2: the meadeater dot com. Yellowfinn, West Slope, Rio, Grand green Back,
- 26:25Speaker 2: and Bonneville are all types of this fish, and you
- 26:29Speaker 2: need to be specific. If you think the answer is
- 26:31Speaker 2: tundras swan, then you need to write tundra swan Spencer, Yellowfinn,
- 26:38Speaker 2: West Slope, Rio, Grand, green Back, and Bonneville are all
- 26:42Speaker 2: types of this fish. I need you to be specific.
- 26:49Speaker 2: I think confident more difficult.
- 26:53Speaker 4: I was not confident. I just.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Will see how the players do. Waiting on Krinn and Yanni, Angela,
- 27:06Speaker 2: how do you feel about fish?
- 27:07Speaker 6: You know fish, I'm good at fishing.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Okay, again, I need you to be specific for this answer.
- 27:21Speaker 2: Oh yeah, is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 27:27Speaker 2: We have Angela saying trout, Ronnie saying trout, Korinn saying goldfish,
- 27:34Speaker 2: Brody and Randall and Jannis and Steve saying cutthroat trout,
- 27:38Speaker 2: Brent saying tuna. The correct answer is cutthroat trout.
- 27:43Speaker 5: Not specific Bonaville tuna.
- 27:47Speaker 2: That was easy, but all of our got that one.
- 27:51Speaker 4: Right.
- 27:54Speaker 2: There are about fifteen subspecies of cutthroat trout, all of
- 27:57Speaker 2: which are native to North America. It's said that the
- 28:00Speaker 2: cutthroats native range is the second biggest among North American
- 28:04Speaker 2: trout species, with lakers being number one. Their historical range
- 28:08Speaker 2: stretches from Alaska to New Mexico.
- 28:12Speaker 5: Man, you want to know something, nuts, What do you got?
- 28:14Speaker 5: I got time for a quick tidbill?
- 28:16Speaker 2: Sure you're the one who's uh schedule on.
- 28:18Speaker 5: There's a creek by our fish shack, which is there's
- 28:22Speaker 5: a probably a twenty five foot waterfall not even one
- 28:27Speaker 5: hundred yards from tideline, not even one hundred yards from
- 28:32Speaker 5: tideline to the waterfall, and there's a population of cuts
- 28:37Speaker 5: that living at Really, yeah.
- 28:38Speaker 2: It's amazing. That was the coolest looking cutthroat out.
- 28:41Speaker 5: They live between the tide water and that water.
- 28:44Speaker 2: And they above the waterfall as well.
- 28:46Speaker 5: I've seen any evidence of them. And it's not even
- 28:48Speaker 5: like a kind of place there's a huge plunge pool
- 28:50Speaker 5: bowl waterfall.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Maybe that's some very they must go out to the salt.
- 28:55Speaker 2: But like now, coastal cutthroats are all over the Northwest.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Maybe maybe this one hundred yard stream bed has.
- 29:02Speaker 5: Uh, they go out and.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Yeah, want.
- 29:08Speaker 5: Rosie was swimming in there and she said it was
- 29:10Speaker 5: full of bunch of them and Jimmy seders thirty forty
- 29:12Speaker 5: of them and he went caught one as a ball.
- 29:14Speaker 2: That's fun.
- 29:14Speaker 5: What was six seven inches long?
- 29:17Speaker 3: Eight?
- 29:18Speaker 2: Question seven? The topic is conservation. According to the Federal
- 29:23Speaker 2: Acy Act, the black market demand for this organ is
- 29:27Speaker 2: the greatest threat to global bear populations. According to the
- 29:34Speaker 2: Federal Lacy Act, the black market demand for this organ
- 29:38Speaker 2: is the greatest threat to global bear populations. We have
- 29:41Speaker 2: a very confident room. This may be our first one
- 29:44Speaker 2: hundred percent of the game.
- 29:46Speaker 5: I could when we get done, I could help you
- 29:48Speaker 5: out on that question.
- 29:49Speaker 3: Everybody had questions, questions about.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Is everybody ready? Quinn doing a lot of erasing. According
- 29:58Speaker 2: to the Federal Acy Act, the black market demand for
- 30:01Speaker 2: this organ is the greatest threat to global bear populations.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Angela saying gallbladder, gallbladder, gallbladder.
- 30:15Speaker 1: Angela has one word.
- 30:16Speaker 2: The entire room said gallbladder. They all got it right.
- 30:19Speaker 2: The correct answer is gallbladders. Gallbladders and paws are considered
- 30:24Speaker 2: the top reason that bears get poached across the world.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Both body parts were at the center of a recent
- 30:30Speaker 2: poaching case in Alaska where an unlicensed guide offered clients hunts,
- 30:34Speaker 2: bear organs and prostitutes. You can read that full story
- 30:38Speaker 2: on the medeater dot com titled illegal bear outfitter offering
- 30:42Speaker 2: prostitution and gall bladders busted in sting operation.
- 30:46Speaker 5: That question could have been improved. What do you get
- 30:48Speaker 5: left out organs? And said like bear parts, because that's
- 30:51Speaker 5: what you could have created some confusion between the pause
- 30:54Speaker 5: and the gall bladder.
- 30:55Speaker 2: They lost them.
- 30:56Speaker 5: You would have lost some people and you wouldn't have
- 30:58Speaker 5: had one hundred percent spend.
- 31:00Speaker 2: They list both of them, and I'll tell you this.
- 31:03Speaker 5: You said organs a food is not an organ. So
- 31:08Speaker 5: had you gone with.
- 31:10Speaker 4: I probably would I probably would have picked paw.
- 31:12Speaker 5: If he said it would be a great question, I
- 31:15Speaker 5: would have gotten it. He would have gotten it wrong.
- 31:19Speaker 2: That question.
- 31:23Speaker 3: About six years ago, I was coming out of the George,
- 31:26Speaker 3: Washington and Virginia grouse hunding and I thought, I saw,
- 31:30Speaker 3: you don't see any cattle around the foothills where I
- 31:33Speaker 3: was coming out of the mountains, and I'm going by
- 31:35Speaker 3: with my truck and just see this, I said, it's
- 31:38Speaker 3: gotta be a dead black angus cow. I'm like, and
- 31:41Speaker 3: what made me turn around? I don't know it was.
- 31:43Speaker 3: It wasn't quite black, dark out, like backed up, put
- 31:45Speaker 3: my headlights on it, and I still couldn't determine what
- 31:48Speaker 3: it was.
- 31:49Speaker 4: And it was four piled up black.
- 31:51Speaker 3: Bears, no pause on any of them, and all gutted,
- 31:55Speaker 3: but still no meat taking off it like like.
- 31:59Speaker 4: Like exactly what they were doing.
- 32:02Speaker 3: And that's a big, big issue in the apols in
- 32:04Speaker 3: Virginia's and West Virginia.
- 32:05Speaker 2: How does that story go after that? You then called on.
- 32:07Speaker 4: I called and I just told him where I saw it.
- 32:10Speaker 5: I didn't have a way to market you still eating
- 32:12Speaker 5: berry meat? I'm contributed Question eight.
- 32:18Speaker 2: The topic is public lands, which states only two national
- 32:23Speaker 2: forests are the Chippewa National Forest and Superior National Forest.
- 32:30Speaker 2: This is question eight. We will get a scoreboard update
- 32:33Speaker 2: from Phill the engineer after this. The topic is public lands,
- 32:37Speaker 2: which states only two national forests are the Chippewa National
- 32:41Speaker 2: Forest and Superior National Forest. Steve is confident. I think
- 32:52Speaker 2: Steve was made less confident by the rest of the
- 32:55Speaker 2: room not having an answer yet. No, no, no, no, no, okay,
- 33:00Speaker 2: do you have this one right?
- 33:03Speaker 5: I think so?
- 33:03Speaker 1: Okay, I feel pretty good.
- 33:07Speaker 4: Is Brody praying? Or is he right?
- 33:13Speaker 1: Talk about it?
- 33:13Speaker 5: But there's a thing I'm thinking about.
- 33:15Speaker 4: So that's it.
- 33:18Speaker 1: You got.
- 33:19Speaker 4: It's exactly him say that many times over the years.
- 33:25Speaker 2: Brody, do you think you have an idea about.
- 33:28Speaker 4: What you want?
- 33:28Speaker 1: I've got an idea. Is everyone else got an answer?
- 33:33Speaker 6: Mm hmm?
- 33:35Speaker 2: I need you to name the state that has the
- 33:38Speaker 2: Chippewa National Forest and Superior National Forest. Yanni and Brody,
- 33:43Speaker 2: you seem to be in agreement. You guys like each
- 33:45Speaker 2: other's answers.
- 33:47Speaker 7: Randall and I. He likes my answer, but I don't
- 33:49Speaker 7: think it's what he wrote down.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Randal and Yanni, I'm sorry, it is what I wrote down.
- 33:53Speaker 4: It is, yeah, well you.
- 33:57Speaker 7: Because we trust each other, my.
- 34:01Speaker 5: Boards down, I can look over shoulders.
- 34:03Speaker 2: Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 34:08Speaker 2: have Angela saying Michigan, Ronnie saying Wisconsin, Corin saying West Virginia,
- 34:14Speaker 2: Brody's saying Michigan, Randall's saying Minnesota, Yanna saying Minnesota, Steve
- 34:20Speaker 2: saying Wisconsin, Brent saying Michigan. The correct answer. It's Minnesota.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Players got it right? Why not?
- 34:34Speaker 5: Because he wrote down so fast, It's like it's gotta
- 34:36Speaker 5: be Michigan. Because they Michigan combined some stuff. Man, I went,
- 34:44Speaker 5: but I went with Scannie, and I was like, that's
- 34:46Speaker 5: not right, you know.
- 34:48Speaker 3: And we had the Man of Steve right in our backyard,
- 34:50Speaker 3: so I knew if that wasn't on it now.
- 34:52Speaker 5: Part of a broader system. They rolled it into like
- 34:56Speaker 5: to another. Now it's a hyphenated Oh, I got it
- 35:00Speaker 5: all became like Chippewa man or something.
- 35:03Speaker 2: The Superior National Forest butts up against Lake Superior, and
- 35:07Speaker 2: it's part of the Boundary Waters Region. The Chippewa National
- 35:11Speaker 2: Forests covers six hundred thousand acres in northern Minnesota, most
- 35:15Speaker 2: of which are wetlands. It has the most water of
- 35:18Speaker 2: any national forest, boasting thirteen percent of all surface water
- 35:23Speaker 2: within the entire National forest system.
- 35:26Speaker 3: Superior Wisconsin and Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.
- 35:30Speaker 4: That's not a fair.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Question, Phil.
- 35:34Speaker 2: We have two questions left. Where does the scoreboard stand.
- 35:38Speaker 9: That's one of the better games we've had in a while,
- 35:40Speaker 9: but we still have to say goodbye to Brent Reeves.
- 35:44Speaker 9: Angela who all have three points a piece. Club We've
- 35:48Speaker 9: got Steve and Ronnie with five points, and then Randall
- 35:52Speaker 9: Jannison Brody are tied up in first place with six points.
- 35:56Speaker 2: Two questions left.
- 35:58Speaker 5: Not not breads, but that is an important question.
- 36:03Speaker 2: That last question nine. The topic is cooking. This next
- 36:08Speaker 2: great question comes to us via Tyler Olsen. If you
- 36:11Speaker 2: have a question you think is right for Meat Eater Trivia,
- 36:13Speaker 2: you can send it to trivia at the meadeater dot com.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Gordon Ramsey once described this freshwater fish as the cod
- 36:21Speaker 2: of the American South.
- 36:25Speaker 1: Now you asked your question.
- 36:26Speaker 2: Seed is going to hate this question because it quotes
- 36:30Speaker 2: a famous chef, like the Anthony Bourdain one that he's
- 36:33Speaker 2: strongly question at all. Okay, you just so you didn't
- 36:37Speaker 2: like that he said it to Oprah.
- 36:39Speaker 5: In talking about something that has nothing to do like
- 36:41Speaker 5: you don't hunt butter.
- 36:43Speaker 2: But you cook it. But it's just stupid, okay. Gordon
- 36:48Speaker 2: Ramsey once described this freshwater fish as the cod of
- 36:52Speaker 2: the American South. This is question nine.
- 36:56Speaker 3: And like down South, so many things are known by nicknames.
- 37:00Speaker 2: Now, Ronnie, you may be helping out the room here.
- 37:02Speaker 4: I mean, so it's like I got trout.
- 37:05Speaker 5: Would I would just know.
- 37:09Speaker 4: I got I didn't. He always tells it, well he did, Yeah,
- 37:14Speaker 4: he is not.
- 37:15Speaker 3: He has not specified the degree specificity we need.
- 37:19Speaker 2: If you think the answer is tundras swan, you could
- 37:22Speaker 2: just put swan.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Okay, there we go.
- 37:25Speaker 5: That's a great little deal.
- 37:27Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 37:27Speaker 2: You know it just came to the top of my
- 37:29Speaker 2: brain here. Yeah, it's not referencing anything at all.
- 37:32Speaker 4: No, but it's not.
- 37:34Speaker 2: Is everybody ready now?
- 37:36Speaker 4: I am?
- 37:37Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answer. We have Angela saying catfish,
- 37:43Speaker 2: Ronnie saying crappy, Krin saying crappy, Brody saying catfish, Randall
- 37:48Speaker 2: saying catfish, Yanna is saying catfish, Steve and Brent saying catfish.
- 37:54Speaker 2: The correct answer is catfish. Everyone except for Ronnie and Corin,
- 38:00Speaker 2: who said crappy got it right. Ramsey made this declaration
- 38:04Speaker 2: while filming a show in Oklahoma where he goes noodling
- 38:07Speaker 2: for catfish. He likened their taste to cod or halibit
- 38:11Speaker 2: and use plenty of expletives to describe their delicious flavor.
- 38:15Speaker 2: If you want to learn how to make my favorite
- 38:16Speaker 2: recipe for catfish, then watch Jesse Griffiths video on the
- 38:20Speaker 2: meat eater dot com called the best beer battered fish.
- 38:26Speaker 7: I'd rather eat catfish than halib.
- 38:29Speaker 2: Phil. We have one question left. Did anything change?
- 38:33Speaker 6: Uh?
- 38:34Speaker 9: No, nothing changed except now Ronnie is no longer in
- 38:38Speaker 9: the running. But we've got Steve with six points. Brodieiannison
- 38:42Speaker 9: Randall are tied up with seven in first place.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Question ten.
- 38:46Speaker 5: So let me think about this second. You're gonna have one.
- 38:52Speaker 4: You need a hell of a bone right now, Steve.
- 39:00Speaker 5: That we kind of work out.
- 39:02Speaker 4: Question.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Topic is gear? This brand famously ends their commercials with
- 39:09Speaker 2: the tagline I'm Larry Potterfield, Thanks for your business. Topic
- 39:17Speaker 2: is Gear? This brand famously ends their commercials with the
- 39:21Speaker 2: tagline I'm Larry Potterfield, thanks for your business. A confidence Steve, Steve,

- 45:57Speaker 7: habitat management because of that little project I got going
- 46:00Speaker 7: on in Wisconsin, and so I've been going a lot,
- 46:02Speaker 7: but spend some time reading on what they put out
