Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Stu Gatz and Hawkman. I mean, live from Napa Valley, California,
- 0:09Speaker 1: Stu Gatz.
- 0:10Speaker 2: You are traveling the world, my friend, getting that vacation
- 0:13Speaker 2: time in.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Listen, you are a cagey vet.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Because you know you have to take vacation time right
- 0:18Speaker 2: now because you're not getting a day off for the
- 0:20Speaker 2: next six months.
- 0:21Speaker 3: How about that?
- 0:21Speaker 1: Well, I did not work at all from Park City, Utah,
- 0:25Speaker 1: but I have done the show yesterday, and I'll be
- 0:28Speaker 1: doing it today from Napa Valley because UM and Stanford
- 0:33Speaker 1: play on Friday night, and I didn't think it would
- 0:35Speaker 1: be fair on the– this is my radio show I'm
- 0:37Speaker 1: talking about. I didn't think it would be fair on
- 0:39Speaker 1: the flagship radio station for Hurricanes football to take a
- 0:43Speaker 1: couple days off when college football is kicking off.
- 0:46Speaker 2: So this is interesting because I did our show out
- 0:49Speaker 2: in L.A. once, and it was magical because we're on
- 0:53Speaker 2: 3 to 5 every afternoon. But when you're on West
- 0:56Speaker 2: Coast time, that 3 to 5 becomes 12 to 2.
- 1:00Speaker 2: And I got to tell you, 12 to 2 felt nice,
- 1:02Speaker 2: and I'm wondering how 11 to 3 felt.
- 1:06Speaker 1: I got news for you.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:10Speaker 1: I am so into this schedule that I can't like,
- 1:15Speaker 1: I got off the air at three o'clock yesterday instead
- 1:18Speaker 1: of six o'clock.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:20Speaker 1: And I felt like I had gained a week. Like
- 1:23Speaker 1: I just didn't know what to do.
- 1:26Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Right. Yes.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Now I'm not moving to California, but although they do
- 1:33Speaker 1: have the lottery, Utah doesn't, I was jonesing for 10
- 1:36Speaker 1: days for a fucking lottery ticket. Right. Um, But I
- 1:39Speaker 1: do think.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Is that the first thing you did upon getting to California?
- 1:44Speaker 1: First thing I did. In fact, my wife and I,
- 1:47Speaker 1: we almost took a drive to Idaho because I was
- 1:49Speaker 1: asking one of the convenience stores in Salt Lake City
- 1:52Speaker 1: or in Park City. I'm like, where can I get
- 1:54Speaker 1: a lottery ticket? And they said, Idaho. And I said, well,
- 1:57Speaker 1: how far? Yes. About an hour and a half. I
- 1:59Speaker 1: got in the car. I looked at Lori and I said,
- 2:01Speaker 1: what do you think about a quick hour and a
- 2:02Speaker 1: half hop to Idaho?
- 2:04Speaker 3: I've made longer drives for cannabis. How about that?
- 2:12Speaker 1: But, yeah, first thing, no joke, within the first two
- 2:15Speaker 1: hours of arriving in California, I had stopped at a
- 2:18Speaker 1: convenience store and I got lottery tickets. I have an issue.
- 2:22Speaker 1: But I wouldn't move out here, but I am giving
- 2:25Speaker 1: serious thought next summer to spending the entire summer in
- 2:29Speaker 1: Park City, Utah. That's how much I liked it. And
- 2:32Speaker 1: I said to Lori, like, the only issue I'll have
- 2:35Speaker 1: to overcome is... lottery tickets.
- 2:38Speaker 3: And 10 days is one thing. Two months is another.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Right.
- 2:42Speaker 5: Right.
- 2:42Speaker 1: She was like, is that really an issue that we
- 2:45Speaker 1: need to overcome? Isn't that a good thing that you
- 2:47Speaker 1: can't buy lottery tickets for two months?
- 2:49Speaker 3: Does she not know her husband?
- 2:50Speaker 1: I mean, no, not well enough. All right. Let me,
- 2:55Speaker 1: let me read some direct messages that I've received on
- 2:59Speaker 1: Instagram from the previous with Stugatz and Hockman listeners. podcast
- 3:05Speaker 1: and you can always dm me it's radio mark hockman
- 3:08Speaker 1: on instagram um somebody joseph dms me he says hock
- 3:13Speaker 1: i gotta tell you during the zz top discussion yesterday
- 3:16Speaker 1: and i don't remember if that was on this show
- 3:18Speaker 1: or if it was on my radio show but the
- 3:20Speaker 1: drummer for zz top frank beard had passed away frank
- 3:24Speaker 1: beard the only member of zz top who didn't have
- 3:28Speaker 1: the beard isn't.
- 3:29Speaker 3: That interesting interesting and his name is frank beard Interesting.
- 3:32Speaker 1: His name is Frank Beard. Interesting tidbit. But he passed
- 3:34Speaker 1: away a couple of weeks ago. And the guy DMs me,
- 3:38Speaker 1: he says, a request for the podcast, Kevin Arnovitz. Now,
- 3:45Speaker 1: I couldn't find it, but we had remixed. I don't
- 3:49Speaker 1: even remember who Kevin Arnovitz was. Did he give us
- 3:51Speaker 1: the stock market report every day on the Levitard show?
- 3:54Speaker 3: No, that was Kenny Arnold.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Who was Kevin Arnovitz?
- 3:58Speaker 3: I feel like Kevin Arnovitz is like one of those basketball.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Now, I say this respectfully, but I think he's one
- 4:04Speaker 2: of those basketball nerds, you know?
- 4:06Speaker 1: You're right. He was like a Tom Habistro before Habistro. Right.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Is it possible to say that respectfully, calling someone a
- 4:13Speaker 2: basketball nerd?
- 4:14Speaker 4: No. No.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Okay.
- 4:16Speaker 1: But we, for whatever reason we had remixed, I can't
- 4:19Speaker 1: find it to ZZ tops. She's got legs. He's Kevin Arnovitz.
- 4:25Speaker 1: And we used to play it when he would come
- 4:26Speaker 1: on the air. Couldn't find it. But the second part
- 4:29Speaker 1: of this DM is I would also like to request
- 4:33Speaker 1: for the podcast. The time Dan was on a TV
- 4:36Speaker 1: panel and all he says is black, black, black, black, black.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Thank you. And I appreciate the podcast. Do you know
- 4:45Speaker 1: what that guy's referring to?
- 4:47Speaker 2: Maybe it was, it may have been the sports reporters.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I don't know what Dan was saying. I don't know
- 4:53Speaker 2: what Dan was talking about. I know we edited it,
- 4:56Speaker 2: but I have no idea.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Yes.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Yes.
- 4:58Speaker 1: So I made it.
- 4:59Speaker 3: The only thing he said, right.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I made a super cut of it. He was on
- 5:04Speaker 1: Sean Hannity's show.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Oh, that's right.
- 5:07Speaker 1: On Fox news.
- 5:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:09Speaker 1: And back then it was called Hannity and Combs. Right.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Hannity was the conservative. Alan Combs was the liberal. Yeah.
- 5:18Speaker 1: And Hannity and Combs. We're doing a show about Michael
- 5:25Speaker 1: Vick going to jail for the dog fighting.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Yes.
- 5:29Speaker 1: And Dan agreed to go on with Hannity because he
- 5:34Speaker 1: had written a column for the Miami Herald about it.
- 5:37Speaker 1: And if you remember what happened was Dan ended up
- 5:40Speaker 1: in a TV studio that didn't have a monitor. So
- 5:42Speaker 1: he couldn't see Hannity or any of the other guests.
- 5:46Speaker 1: And Dan took a flyer that none of the panelists
- 5:50Speaker 1: were black. that no one discussing Michael Vick and the
- 5:56Speaker 1: culture of dog fighting, the way Mike Vick was presenting it,
- 6:03Speaker 1: that no one understood the culture that Mike Vick was
- 6:06Speaker 1: talking about because none on the panel were black. Now,
- 6:09Speaker 1: Dan didn't know if anyone on the panel was black
- 6:11Speaker 1: or not, but he was taking an educated guess, knowing
- 6:13Speaker 1: Hannity's track record.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Yes.
- 6:15Speaker 2: He had no idea that former Bears quarterback Jim Miller
- 6:18Speaker 2: was also on the panel.
- 6:20Speaker 1: How do you remember that?
- 6:21Speaker 3: That's an amazing goal. And there was an Atlanta radio
- 6:25Speaker 3: host who brought his dog. Yes, yes, yes.
- 6:29Speaker 1: The guy brought his dog, like a fluffy little dog,
- 6:33Speaker 1: you know, to show Hannity. Like, I cannot believe that
- 6:36Speaker 1: you remember that. Jim fucking Miller. How on earth, with
- 6:41Speaker 1: all the stuff you don't remember– How do you remember
- 6:45Speaker 1: that Jim Miller was on a Hannity panel with Dan
- 6:48Speaker 1: in like 2007? There are just some things you don't forget, Huck.
- 6:53Speaker 2: I mean, at a panel with Levitard, Jim Miller, an
- 6:58Speaker 2: Atlanta radio host, and his dog.
- 7:00Speaker 3: That's something I'll never forget.
- 7:01Speaker 1: That is an amazing pull by you. So anyway, the
- 7:07Speaker 1: direct message, here it is, the request. This is not...
- 7:11Speaker 1: That's exactly how Dan's entire segment went, but it's pretty close.
- 7:16Speaker 1: I chopped it up to him just saying black. Are
- 7:20Speaker 1: there black people? Where's the black people? He never, I
- 7:23Speaker 1: don't think, got invited back to a Hannity show ever again.
- 7:26Speaker 1: He made his point very well.
- 7:28Speaker 2: It was essentially a montage of Dan just saying the
- 7:31Speaker 2: word black.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Pretty much. Yeah, here it is. This is the supercut
- 7:35Speaker 1: of that.
- 7:36Speaker 5: And welcome to Hannity and Combs. Thank you for being
- 7:37Speaker 5: with us. I'm Sean Hannity. We get right to our
- 7:39Speaker 5: top story tonight.
- 7:40Speaker 6: And joining us now is syndicated radio talk show host,
- 7:43Speaker 6: our friend, Neil Bortz, former NFL quarterback, serious radio host,
- 7:46Speaker 6: Jim Miller, and syndicated radio show host, Dan Lovett-Tardis with us. Dan,
- 7:50Speaker 6: I've read your column on this. How many people on
- 7:52Speaker 6: this set are black? How many people on this set
- 7:55Speaker 6: are black? I can't see anybody.
- 7:56Speaker 3: What does it have to do with Michael Vick?
- 7:58Speaker 5: It seems like Dan wants to make this. Let me
- 8:00Speaker 5: get the other guests in. It seems like Dan wants
- 8:02Speaker 5: to make this about race.
- 8:04Speaker 3: How many black people on this panel?
- 8:05Speaker 1: How many people on this set are black?
- 8:06Speaker 5: It seems like Dan wants to make this. Let me
- 8:08Speaker 5: get the other guest in. It seems like Dan wants
- 8:10Speaker 5: to make this. How many people on this panel?
- 8:11Speaker 4: How many people on this set are black? How many
- 8:13Speaker 4: people on this set are black?
- 8:15Speaker 3: Black. Black.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Black people. The black community.
- 8:18Speaker 5: Black.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Black icons.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Black people. The black community. Black people.
- 8:21Speaker 4: You don't have any black people on here talking about it.
- 8:24Speaker 7: Black icons.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Black. Black.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Black people. The black community.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Black.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Thank you very much.
- 8:28Speaker 4: Coming up, fellow Democrats.
- 8:31Speaker 3: I crushed it.
- 8:36Speaker 2: In fairness to Dan, it was the whitest panel in
- 8:39Speaker 2: the history of panels.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Dan could not have been more correct. Could not have
- 8:45Speaker 1: been more correct. That is, I'm so glad that that
- 8:49Speaker 1: listener requested that. That is just gold. I listened to
- 8:54Speaker 1: almost the entire segment, the Hannity and Combs segment this morning,
- 8:58Speaker 1: because I have the entire segment. And man, it is amazing.
- 9:02Speaker 1: just painful hannity did not get exactly what he wanted
- 9:06Speaker 1: to get from dan and i do remember it was
- 9:09Speaker 1: either the next night or the night after hannity was
- 9:12Speaker 1: still talking about it and the entire panel was black
- 9:17Speaker 1: he was.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Talking about damn with a black panel yes that is great.
- 9:20Speaker 3: So um.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Another direct message from Jay. Love the pod with Stu Gotts.
- 9:31Speaker 1: I arrived at the Levitard show on ESPN radio after
- 9:34Speaker 1: you left, Hawk. So I'm loving the history and the
- 9:37Speaker 1: origin story of you, producer extraordinaire. Thank you for your time.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Appreciate it. Appreciate you listening and appreciate the the message. Somebody, Dan,
- 9:50Speaker 1: DMs me loving these with Stugatz and Hawk pods. I'm
- 9:53Speaker 1: living in Dubai and these have brought so much joy
- 9:56Speaker 1: despite everything going on in the region. Listening to the
- 9:59Speaker 1: last episode. and Tony Dungy was in one of the
- 10:02Speaker 1: big opens. Can Stugatz go into the origin of his
- 10:06Speaker 1: fake Tony Dungy Twitter account and any fallout? I don't
- 10:11Speaker 1: even recall that. Did you have a fake Tony Dungy account?
- 10:14Speaker 2: There was, and it was everything that fake, that Tony,
- 10:17Speaker 2: the real Tony Dungy isn't.
- 10:19Speaker 3: He was cursing. He was in hot tubs. He was partying.
- 10:21Speaker 1: He was raging.
- 10:22Speaker 2: I think we have since canceled that account. We have
- 10:25Speaker 2: deleted that account. But it was your account?
- 10:27Speaker 1: You were updating it?
- 10:29Speaker 3: I had so many different accounts at that time. I
- 10:30Speaker 3: have no idea. I mean, someone was controlling it.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I don't even recall that. That's funny. Did Tony Dungy
- 10:37Speaker 1: get mad about it?
- 10:39Speaker 2: I don't think Tony Dungy was even aware that it existed,
- 10:42Speaker 2: to be honest with you.
- 10:45Speaker 3: But it was like, Hawk, every other word was a
- 10:48Speaker 3: curse word. You know, Tony Dungy is religious. He doesn't
- 10:52Speaker 3: like to curse. And I was like, Hey, enough. Okay.
- 10:54Speaker 3: I don't care how religious you are.
- 10:56Speaker 1: You can curse.
- 10:56Speaker 3: All right. Everyone has their demons. And so I created
- 10:59Speaker 3: the fake Tony Dungy.
- 11:00Speaker 1: That's pretty funny.
- 11:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Somebody DMs me great podcast about the sports comic night.
- 11:07Speaker 1: That one has set viewership records on YouTube. And I'm
- 11:11Speaker 1: imagining the audio downloads were fantastic, but that was our
- 11:14Speaker 1: previous episode about Mark Hockman sports comic.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Guy says, Hey, I was just saying, oh, what an episode.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Guy says, great podcast about the sports comic. So frustrating
- 11:26Speaker 1: how it all turned out. One thing I think we'd
- 11:29Speaker 1: all love to know is that if Dan has ever
- 11:32Speaker 1: said anything to you guys or others indirectly about how
- 11:35Speaker 1: he feels about this new podcast that you guys do.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I can only imagine he's not thrilled with it. He's
- 11:42Speaker 1: never said anything to me. I don't think he really cares.
- 11:45Speaker 1: I actually think he probably enjoys the fact that you
- 11:48Speaker 1: and I are doing a pod together and reliving some
- 11:50Speaker 1: of the old show moments. I say that as I
- 11:52Speaker 1: probably get a cease and desist three weeks from now
- 11:55Speaker 1: because he hates it. But no, he hasn't said anything
- 11:58Speaker 1: to me. I would imagine that he I don't think
- 12:00Speaker 1: he listens to it, but I would imagine that he's
- 12:03Speaker 1: happy that we're doing it.
- 12:05Speaker 2: I have spoken to him. He has told me that
- 12:07Speaker 2: he's happy now. I don't know, but he has told
- 12:09Speaker 2: me that he's happy that we are indeed doing it.
- 12:12Speaker 3: And so but again, I have no idea. And I'm
- 12:15Speaker 3: with you.
- 12:16Speaker 2: I highly, highly question whether he's ever listened to a
- 12:19Speaker 2: single word.
- 12:21Speaker 3: Of this podcast.
- 12:22Speaker 2: But we are to me, this is what the oral
- 12:24Speaker 2: history should have been. It should have been us taking
- 12:28Speaker 2: you through special moments of the show, taking you through
- 12:31Speaker 2: time and what we were thinking during those times.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Just having fun, reliving some of the best times of
- 12:37Speaker 1: our lives and the listeners' lives. It's just fun.
- 12:41Speaker 3: I think back to Neil Bortz, and I just laugh.
- 12:43Speaker 3: It makes me smile.
- 12:44Speaker 1: I cannot believe. You nailed the Hannity panel from 20
- 12:51Speaker 1: years ago.
- 12:52Speaker 3: I don't know what's wrong with me.
- 12:54Speaker 1: The fact that you remember Jim Miller, but also an
- 12:57Speaker 1: Atlanta radio host who happened to be Neil Bortz.
- 13:01Speaker 2: If you were surprised by that, you'll be even more
- 13:03Speaker 2: surprised by this. We found the ZZ Top Sound for you.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Play it!
- 13:07Speaker 1: Stop it! He's Kevin Arnovitz. Yeah. Oh, my God. That
- 13:22Speaker 1: is fucking great. I didn't realize it was me singing it.
- 13:27Speaker 2: You forgot you sang it? I remembered a panel from
- 13:31Speaker 2: Hannity and Cubs. You forgot you sang a song?
- 13:34Speaker 1: Crazy play it one more time this is our this
- 13:39Speaker 1: is the with stugatz and hockman tribute to the late
- 13:42Speaker 1: frank beard drummer for zz top.
- 13:52Speaker 3: He's giving all of it that's.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Amazing Yeah, you're right. He was a basketball writer. How
- 13:59Speaker 1: are you remembering everything today? And I'm not remembering anything.
- 14:02Speaker 3: You're out in the West Coast. It happens.
- 14:04Speaker 1: That is true. I was in Park City last week.
- 14:08Speaker 1: We went to see Rick Springfield in concert. He's 77.
- 14:13Speaker 1: He is ripped. When I say shredded, I mean shredded.
- 14:18Speaker 1: And he sang. legs as a tribute to, uh, ZZ
- 14:23Speaker 1: Top and Frank Beard. I actually thought it was pretty cool.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Was the concert good? You enjoyed it?
- 14:26Speaker 1: It was fantastic.
- 14:28Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 14:28Speaker 1: He is like, he's just a, I don't give a
- 14:32Speaker 1: fuck motherfucker. 77 year old. I didn't know he was
- 14:36Speaker 1: Australian till the concert. And he, I mean, he put
- 14:40Speaker 1: on a great show and it was on the slopes
- 14:42Speaker 1: in park city. It was like a great venue. There
- 14:45Speaker 1: was the lunar eclipse going on that night. It was like, uh,
- 14:47Speaker 1: it was really cool. Um, Here's another. Did he give
- 14:51Speaker 1: you Jesse's girl? Closed with Jesse's girl with his shirt off.
- 14:55Speaker 1: And it is. You can't believe what you're looking at.
- 14:59Speaker 1: The guy is 77. Like, you can't. I'll show you
- 15:03Speaker 1: here on the. If you're watching YouTube, you can see
- 15:06Speaker 1: this was my video of it. He is 77.
- 15:10Speaker 4: Yes.
- 15:11Speaker 1: I'd be surprised if he ever.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Yes. I'd be surprised if Springfield ever sang Jesse's girl.
- 15:17Speaker 3: With a shirt on. How about that?
- 15:19Speaker 1: I mean, if I was 77 and looked that good,
- 15:23Speaker 1: on an airplane, I wouldn't put my shirt on.
- 15:25Speaker 3: I'm with you.
- 15:30Speaker 1: So, guy DMs me, and he says... Behind it, I
- 15:35Speaker 1: went to my Rick Springfield file there. It says, Ha,
- 15:40Speaker 1: can you dig up any of the segments with you
- 15:43Speaker 1: guys and Dan asking sports questions to Lebo, his late brother?
- 15:50Speaker 1: Everybody knows David Levitard passed away, unfortunately. But we used
- 15:54Speaker 1: to have him on to answer sports questions because he
- 15:57Speaker 1: didn't know anything about sports. But he says one in
- 15:59Speaker 1: particular was a get-together at Shula's. And it was a
- 16:03Speaker 1: hysterical moment about him blowing up the bathroom. Yes. This
- 16:09Speaker 1: was not where we brought Lebo on to ask questions
- 16:12Speaker 1: about sports. You guys just happened to do once a
- 16:15Speaker 1: week at Shula's, Shula's Steak 2, right?
- 16:19Speaker 3: It was Shula's Steak 2.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Now, this is where I think this is like a
- 16:24Speaker 2: big deal. Like getting the Shula's Steak 2 account. Now,
- 16:27Speaker 2: Dan hated it because we had to do a live
- 16:29Speaker 2: show from Shula's Steak 2 in a radio booth. that
- 16:33Speaker 2: was once occupied by Jim Mandich and Dave Gergely.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Like, you stole this from them, right? As the general
- 16:41Speaker 1: manager of the station. We sold the account from them, yes.
- 16:44Speaker 1: UAM had done broadcasts at Shula Steak, too, forever, and
- 16:47Speaker 1: you went in there and threw a lot of hard work,
- 16:50Speaker 1: got it for $ 7. 90 the ticket, and you and Dan.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a staple of WQAM, one of their
- 16:56Speaker 2: staple accounts. They had the studio there. They would do
- 16:58Speaker 2: shows from there all the time.
- 17:00Speaker 3: They would do.
- 17:01Speaker 2: appearances there all the time we got the account away
- 17:04Speaker 2: from QAM and Dan and I had to do a
- 17:06Speaker 2: live show in order to get that that account away
- 17:10Speaker 2: we had to do a show live and Lebo did
- 17:13Speaker 2: show up for one of those shows and Lebo went
- 17:16Speaker 2: and used the bathroom at Shula State too and I
- 17:21Speaker 2: had the unfortunate uh Pleasure, I guess, or displeasure.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Of walking in afterwards, right?
- 17:26Speaker 3: Of walking in.
- 17:27Speaker 2: About five to six minutes after, and Dan came right
- 17:30Speaker 2: after me, and Lebo.
- 17:33Speaker 3: There was no one else in the joint. So it
- 17:35Speaker 3: just had to be Lebo. That was it. And he
- 17:37Speaker 3: finally acknowledged that it was him.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Well, this was the following day, you and Dan talking
- 17:46Speaker 1: about that incident.
- 17:48Speaker 3: I wonder if that bathroom's safe now. The one in Shula's? Yeah,
- 17:51Speaker 3: a mere 24 hours later.
- 17:53Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure Shula's melted yesterday. Shula himself is bankrupt now.
- 17:59Speaker 7: He's got, like, there are arsonists around.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Shula stumbled out, like, all disheveled. Melted.
- 18:07Speaker 1: All disheveled.
- 18:08Speaker 7: I'm thinking Shula's, Don Shula himself is in the parking lot,
- 18:12Speaker 7: all disheveled.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Like, you remember that? Do you remember?
- 18:18Speaker 3: Do you remember that photo in the Herald of the
- 18:21Speaker 3: guy after Hurricane Andrew?
- 18:23Speaker 7: He's like sneaked even by his home.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Don Shula's in the parking lot.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Just waltz around.
- 18:30Speaker 1: He said there are firefighters all around him. What happened
- 18:35Speaker 1: to my empire?
- 18:37Speaker 3: My empire. He's got like 20 more. Your brother didn't
- 18:41Speaker 3: burn them all down.
- 18:43Speaker 1: He's like standing there. Quotes in the paper.
- 18:45Speaker 3: The paper tomorrow is going to say Miami Harris.
- 18:47Speaker 7: There's going to be a picture of Shul and the
- 18:48Speaker 7: caption is going to be, and I thought what Wanstead
- 18:51Speaker 7: did to my team.
- 18:59Speaker 3: He said, let's take some calls.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Clevatar's brother melts Shula's steak too.
- 19:16Speaker 3: 1-888.
- 19:19Speaker 1: He lapsed into the crutch. I'm giving out the phone number.
- 19:22Speaker 1: It is such an amazing snapshot in time. Because first
- 19:26Speaker 1: of all, one of the reasons that I think everyone
- 19:28Speaker 1: loves these pods is that you get back to this
- 19:32Speaker 1: time where we just laughed for three hours a day,
- 19:36Speaker 1: four hours a day on the show. And it was
- 19:38Speaker 1: such a rarity. In sports radio, because Mandich wasn't laughing
- 19:43Speaker 1: all show long. Hank wasn't laughing all show long like
- 19:47Speaker 1: Ed Kaplan wasn't laughing all show. long. And people who
- 19:53Speaker 1: found our show in 2004, 2005, 2006, they were marveling
- 19:58Speaker 1: that it was just three guys, four guys just cutting
- 20:02Speaker 1: up and laughing. But it's such a great snapshot there.
- 20:06Speaker 1: that Dan went to the radio crutch of let's take
- 20:09Speaker 1: phone calls, which is bizarre, right? Because he hated taking
- 20:14Speaker 1: phone calls, although we really liked it during that time.
- 20:16Speaker 1: But like the notion of laughing so hard that you
- 20:20Speaker 1: can't breathe and then just say, let's take some calls.
- 20:23Speaker 3: 1-800.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Do you remember what our phone number was?
- 20:28Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 20:29Speaker 1: I mean, you remember Neil Bortz?
- 20:32Speaker 3: Was it something 0790? I don't know. I honestly don't know.
- 20:39Speaker 2: It was definitely 0790.
- 20:42Speaker 1: It had ESPN in it the first few months, right?
- 20:44Speaker 1: It was like 1-800-something ESPN.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Yeah, because we were an ESPN affiliate. I'll try to
- 20:51Speaker 2: remember the number. I only remember panels from 20 years
- 20:54Speaker 2: ago on Hannity and Combs.
- 20:56Speaker 1: I can't tell you how blown away I am by that.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Because if you had asked me, the only reason that
- 21:02Speaker 1: I knew who was on the panel is because I
- 21:03Speaker 1: had listened to it this morning, getting the sound ready
- 21:06Speaker 1: for the podcast. There's not a chance in hell. Maybe
- 21:10Speaker 1: I would have come up with Jim Miller because he
- 21:12Speaker 1: played for the Bears.
- 21:13Speaker 3: Right.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Neil Bortz?
- 21:16Speaker 3: How on earth?
- 21:18Speaker 1: And the dog! How on earth did you remember that?
- 21:24Speaker 3: I'm looking up the phone number right now. I have
- 21:26Speaker 3: no idea.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Hey, can you play the Hannity clip one more time, Ricardo? Because...
- 21:35Speaker 1: I just want to hear it again before the podcast
- 21:37Speaker 1: is over. Did you find the numbers through that?
- 21:39Speaker 3: Yeah, before you play it, 786-360-0790. 786-360-0790.
- 21:45Speaker 1: That was the number. Yes. Hawk, you're right.
- 21:51Speaker 3: The other three guys.
- 21:52Speaker 2: You mentioned, Hank Mandich and Ed Kaplan, those guys were
- 21:56Speaker 2: doing solo shows. So the idea that a group of
- 21:59Speaker 2: friends would get together every afternoon and And maybe talk sports,
- 22:03Speaker 2: but also maybe not. And just laugh and enjoy each
- 22:07Speaker 2: other's company. was foreign to a lot of people. And
- 22:11Speaker 2: it took a minute for them.
- 22:13Speaker 3: Yes, yes.
- 22:13Speaker 1: It really was. And it wasn't just foreign in the
- 22:16Speaker 1: Miami market. No one was doing that.
- 22:18Speaker 3: In general, yes.
- 22:19Speaker 1: No one in sports radio was doing that, right? There
- 22:22Speaker 1: were wacky morning zoos that were doing it on music radio. Right.
- 22:26Speaker 1: But no one was doing what we were doing in
- 22:28Speaker 1: sports radio. Jim Rome, super serious, right? He was the
- 22:33Speaker 1: serious broadcaster while he had like a tinge of... dark
- 22:38Speaker 1: comedy sometimes still does, but no one was doing what
- 22:42Speaker 1: you and Dan were doing, which was just chopping it
- 22:46Speaker 1: up and laughing uproariously.
- 22:49Speaker 2: In fact, they would tell you to do the exact
- 22:51Speaker 2: opposite of what it is we were doing. Producers shouldn't
- 22:54Speaker 2: speak that much. We shouldn't be laughing that much. Dan
- 22:57Speaker 2: should be saying.
- 22:58Speaker 3: Most of the words. I mean, all of it, you know,
- 23:00Speaker 3: the rules of radio, we broke them all. And I'm
- 23:02Speaker 3: glad we did.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Yeah. And it's funny, like even the, The Hannity stuff, like,
- 23:07Speaker 1: people would do stuff on television shows or outside the
- 23:10Speaker 1: radio program, and they wouldn't repurpose it the next day
- 23:15Speaker 1: for a bit.
- 23:16Speaker 4: No.
- 23:16Speaker 1: But I remember watching that Hannity moment on television. Like,
- 23:20Speaker 1: probably the only time I ever watched Fox News. And
- 23:23Speaker 1: I'm watching that Hannity moment that night, and I'm like, oh,
- 23:26Speaker 1: my God. I mean, we have to revisit this on
- 23:28Speaker 1: tomorrow's show because it's comical. Like, it's comical. Here it
- 23:32Speaker 1: is one more time, the supercut of Hannity. Dan, Jim Miller,
- 23:37Speaker 1: Neil Bortz.
- 23:38Speaker 3: His dog.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Neil Bortz's dog. And Hannity and Combs.
- 23:44Speaker 6: And welcome to Hannity and Combs. Thank you for being
- 23:45Speaker 6: with us. I'm Sean Hannity. We get right to our
- 23:47Speaker 6: top story tonight. And joining us now is syndicated radio
- 23:50Speaker 6: talk show host, our friend, Neil Bortz, former NFL quarterback,
- 23:53Speaker 6: Sirius radio host, Jim Miller, and syndicated radio show host,
- 23:56Speaker 6: Dan Labattard is with us.
- 23:57Speaker 5: Dan, I've read your column on this.
- 23:59Speaker 4: How many people on this set are black? How many
- 24:02Speaker 4: people on this set are black? I can't see anybody.
- 24:04Speaker 4: What does it have to do with Michael Vick? It
- 24:06Speaker 4: seems like Dan wants to make this. Let me get
- 24:08Speaker 4: the other guest in.
- 24:09Speaker 5: It seems like Dan wants.
- 24:10Speaker 3: To make this about race.
- 24:12Speaker 5: How many people on this panel, how many people on
- 24:13Speaker 5: this set are black?
- 24:14Speaker 4: It seems like Dan wants to make this.
- 24:16Speaker 5: Let me get the other guest in. It seems like
- 24:17Speaker 5: Dan wants to make this.
- 24:18Speaker 4: How many people on this panel, how many people on
- 24:20Speaker 4: this set are black? How many people on this set
- 24:22Speaker 4: are black?
- 24:23Speaker 3: Black.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Black.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Black people. The black community. Black.
- 24:26Speaker 3: Black icons.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Black people. The black community. Black people.
- 24:29Speaker 4: You don't have any black people on here talking about it.
- 24:32Speaker 3: Black icons.
- 24:33Speaker 5: Black. Black.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Black people. The black community. Black.
- 24:35Speaker 5: Thank you very much.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Coming up, fellow Democrats.
- 24:38Speaker 6: Some of them.
- 24:40Speaker 1: You know what I think happened, too, is I don't
- 24:41Speaker 1: think I told you or Dan that I had created
- 24:44Speaker 1: this supercut. I think what I told you guys before
- 24:47Speaker 1: the show was, hey, at some point, go back to
- 24:50Speaker 1: Dan being on Hannity last night. And I've got a
- 24:53Speaker 1: couple of audio clips of what it was, because that's
- 24:56Speaker 1: the kind of stuff that I like to catch you
- 24:58Speaker 1: guys off guard with. So I would say so then
- 25:01Speaker 1: Dan would end up calling for it. All right, here's
- 25:03Speaker 1: a clip of me on Hannity. Hannity last night. And
- 25:06Speaker 1: then I unveiled that on you guys. And it was
- 25:09Speaker 1: just black, black, black, black, black. And that would create
- 25:12Speaker 1: some of the laughter.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Taylor had a line, he's not involved in this episode
- 25:16Speaker 2: because he's bored by us, and I wanted him just
- 25:18Speaker 2: to blurt it out because I thought it'd be funny
- 25:19Speaker 2: to hear his random voice.
- 25:21Speaker 3: In the middle of the segment.
- 25:24Speaker 2: My favorite part of that, listening back to it, it
- 25:26Speaker 2: seems like Dan wants to make this about race.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Which really could be the way that you could introduce
- 25:34Speaker 1: Dan on any moment at any show, anything that he does,
- 25:38Speaker 1: you could use that line to introduce him. Yeah, Taylor,
- 25:44Speaker 1: Taylor backed out of this podcast. He hates it with
- 25:46Speaker 1: the passion of a thousand sons.
- 25:48Speaker 7: I'm the one who found ZZ Top.
- 25:50Speaker 3: Why did you drop the line that you were putting
- 25:52Speaker 3: in my headset?
- 25:54Speaker 1: Give him the line, Taylor.
- 25:55Speaker 2: What I said was what Michael Vick did with dogs
- 25:58Speaker 2: was bad, but now imagine he was black.
- 26:05Speaker 7: His helmet being removed, the first thing that happens there is, hey,
- 26:10Speaker 7: human being in there. Now you hit him over the
- 26:13Speaker 7: head with a helmet. Of course it's wrong. But I
- 26:15Speaker 7: ask you to consider this because I didn't say anything.
- 26:19Speaker 1: About white, black, or race.
- 26:22Speaker 7: But let it be a black guy doing it to
- 26:24Speaker 7: a white guy and have the white guy not have
- 26:26Speaker 7: his helmet on and see if the language doesn't get
- 26:28Speaker 7: escalated to a really.
- 26:29Speaker 3: Uncomfortable, loud place.
- 26:31Speaker 2: I'm not the brightest star in the sky, but wasn't
- 26:34Speaker 2: it a black guy doing it to a white guy?
- 26:36Speaker 3: A staple.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Taylor came in like a sniper.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Right.
- 26:40Speaker 3: That's why I wanted him to do it. Yes.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Nice to hear his voice. Anyway, if there's something you
- 26:46Speaker 1: want to hear on the podcast, I'll be back in
- 26:50Speaker 1: South Florida this week, and then we'll be back to
- 26:53Speaker 1: a more regular podcast. But if there's something you want
- 26:56Speaker 1: to hear on the podcast, like Kevin Arnovitz or Sean
- 26:59Speaker 1: Hannity or the Shula bathroom story, feel free to DM me.
- 27:04Speaker 1: It's Radio Mark Hockman on Instagram. Radio Mark Hockman on Instagram.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Somebody DM me. I'll ask you this. Hock, I love
- 27:14Speaker 1: the honest and candid episode talking about the comedy night.
- 27:18Speaker 1: For many of us longtime fans, it was painful to
- 27:20Speaker 1: hear what a pompous ass Dan was. And that wasn't
- 27:25Speaker 1: why we played it. It was just the anniversary of
- 27:26Speaker 1: a sports comic. You can make your own judgments if
- 27:29Speaker 1: you want. He said, I would love to try and
- 27:32Speaker 1: find out what happened between him and Stu Gatz. Also
- 27:35Speaker 1: curious if Stu Gatz regrets not taking the WFAN program
- 27:41Speaker 1: director job. If I remember, he was very close a
- 27:44Speaker 1: couple of years ago. Keep up the good work. I
- 27:46Speaker 1: love the podcast. You were. I mean, essentially, from what
- 27:51Speaker 1: I understand, the WFAN program director's job was yours if
- 27:56Speaker 1: you wanted it, and you passed it up to continue
- 27:59Speaker 1: on with Dan's show. Do you regret that?
- 28:03Speaker 3: I'd be hosting overnights by now.
- 28:08Speaker 1: I'd be doing middays with Carton.
- 28:11Speaker 2: It's a dream job, no question. I don't regret it, Hawk,
- 28:14Speaker 2: because I like being on the air. I love what
- 28:16Speaker 2: it is that we're doing. I love what you and
- 28:19Speaker 2: I are doing. Um, and I didn't have final say
- 28:22Speaker 2: on certain things and that was bothersome to me. Like
- 28:24Speaker 2: I felt like after 20 plus years of doing this,
- 28:28Speaker 2: I don't need to go to someone else to determine
- 28:30Speaker 2: whether or not we're going to rehire Craig Carton for
- 28:33Speaker 2: the 14th time, you know? And so that part of
- 28:36Speaker 2: it frustrated me. The money is not the same in
- 28:39Speaker 2: radio as it once was, especially for.
- 28:41Speaker 3: A position like that.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Um, that's a job I would have taken 15 years
- 28:45Speaker 2: ago with my eyes closed.
- 28:47Speaker 3: But no, I have no regrets. It's just radio has changed.
- 28:49Speaker 2: It's shifted and not having final say in certain programming
- 28:52Speaker 2: decisions defeats the purpose of being the program director.
- 28:56Speaker 1: You know, if you want to DM a request, it's
- 29:00Speaker 1: Radio Mark Hockman on Instagram. The T-shirt store has brand
- 29:05Speaker 1: new shirts. My son's T-shirt store has new shirts that say,
- 29:08Speaker 1: I mean, and it's got the microphone. And with Stugatz
- 29:13Speaker 1: and Hockman, if you can go to horse muffins dot com.
- 29:16Speaker 1: You can get a with Stugatz and Hockman podcast shirt.
- 29:19Speaker 1: You can get a Mark Hockman sports comic shirt. You
- 29:22Speaker 1: can now get an I mean shirt. You can get
- 29:26Speaker 1: a Sam Sneed, my God shirt. All these are shirts
- 29:30Speaker 1: and hoodies and long sleeves as well. Horsemuffins.com is the website.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Can we create a shirt that has the images of
- 29:38Speaker 2: the entire panel for Hangover?
- 29:40Speaker 3: And Combs? That would be great.
- 29:44Speaker 1: How about a shirt that says, I stand with Neil
- 29:46Speaker 1: Bortz's dog.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Dan seems to want to make this about race.
- 29:58Speaker 3: All right.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Stu Gantz has to do three athlete nicknames to end
- 30:02Speaker 1: each podcast. Since I was out in Utah, I'll start
- 30:04Speaker 1: with Carl Malone.
- 30:07Speaker 3: The mailman.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Of course. Now I've got to find two others. From Utah? Man,
- 30:16Speaker 1: what else? Are there any other famous athletes from Utah?
- 30:21Speaker 1: John Stockton, I guess.
- 30:23Speaker 3: Yeah, but I'm not certain Stockton had a nickname.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Did he?
- 30:26Speaker 3: I don't know. John Stockton, Andre Karolinko, AK 47. Oh,
- 30:33Speaker 3: that's a good one.
- 30:34Speaker 1: That's a good one for a while.
- 30:35Speaker 2: Yes.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Anybody else go ahead. Name a, a Utah. Hmm.
- 30:42Speaker 3: I mean, Kyle Whittingham, the Utah coach, witty.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Is it witty? I'll give it to you.
- 30:49Speaker 3: I mean, anyone named Whittingham, his name should be witty, right?
- 30:54Speaker 1: John Stockton's most common nickname was stock.
- 30:58Speaker 3: That's terrible. Donovan Mitchell, Spider.
- 31:01Speaker 1: How about that? That's a good one. That's a good one.
- 31:03Speaker 5: All right.
- 31:03Speaker 1: I'll give you that. You nailed Stock. Who called him Stock? Nobody. John.
- 31:09Speaker 1: It's the same syllables as his first name. John.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Nobody called him that, but it would have been me
- 31:15Speaker 2: who came up with it.
- 31:17Speaker 1: I was driving in Park City and there's Carl Malone Ford.
- 31:21Speaker 1: He's got a car dealership out there.
- 31:23Speaker 2: Wouldn't you if you dominated a market for that long?
- 31:26Speaker 2: I mean, John Elway has a thousand car dealerships in Denver.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I think Nick Saban has a whole bunch in Alabama.
- 31:33Speaker 1: All right, that's going to do it for With Stugatz
- 31:35Speaker 1: and Hockman. Please go buy a shirt or a hoodie
- 31:37Speaker 1: from my son's store, horsemuffins.com. DM me something you want
- 31:42Speaker 1: to hear on the next episode of this pod. Radio
- 31:44Speaker 1: Mark Hockman on Instagram. Everybody have a great day. I mean,
- 31:50Speaker 1: we'll talk to you next time.
- 31:52Speaker 3: See you, Hock. Enjoy the rest of your trip, man.
- 31:56Speaker 3: He's Kevin Arnovitz.
- 32:02Speaker 1: With Stu Gatz and Hawkman.
