- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Be nice.
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: What is wrong with you?
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Carrie trailer high school was the real horror.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Hey everyone, it's Kilbert K here.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to my channel.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: If you find out the girl everyone is bullying can move things with her mind, be nice.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: You don't need a school assembly.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: You don't need to say good morning, Carrie.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: I saved your seat and bowled that seat to the floor.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Mike Flanagan has a new Carrie series coming to Prime Video, and somebody apparently looked at this story and said, What if we gave the bullies Wi-Fi?
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Wonderful, that was the missing ingredient.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Broadband.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Welcome back everybody.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: I'm Gilbert K.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Today we're breaking down the Carrie trailer, Stephen King's famous nightmare and a school where the emergency exit should be the most popular student.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: If you're new to Carrie, here's the idea: a sheltered girl, a controlling mother, cruel classmates, and the power to move things with her mind.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Now, do we need another Carrie?
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Hollywood keeps bringing this girl back like she owes them money.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: Let her graduate, give her a quiet apartment, a house plant, a job, actually, maybe no office job.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Somebody writes her last email and the printer goes through a window.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: But Mike Flanagan's name gets my attention.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: He's behind The Hunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: He's also adapted Stephen King with Gerald's Game and Doctor's Sleep.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: His horror often makes you care about someone before it scares you.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: You sit down thinking, let's see a ghost.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: An hour later, you're thinking about your childhood.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: I came here to fear a cupboard.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Why am I processing my relationship with my father?
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: That approach makes me sense for Carrie.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: We need to care about this girl, otherwise, we're watching furniture attack people.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: In this version, Carrie has grown up hidden away at home.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Her father's death pushes her into public school.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Imagine barely knowing the outside world, and your introduction is a classroom full of teenagers that's learning to swim in a shark tank while wearing a sandwich.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Who planned this?
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Does she understand social rules?
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: No.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Does she have support?
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Unclear.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Can she move objects with her brain?
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: We'll circle back.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: I've worked in project management, you don't circle back to that.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: It goes at the top of the risk report in red.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Potential impact, the report catches fire.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: The trailer opens with Carrie entering classroom and being mocked.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: She hasn't done anything.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: She shows up, looks different, and that's enough.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: What makes this uncomfortable is that Carrie wants friends.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: And that's all.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: She wants someone to be happy.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: She walked into the room.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Summer Howell plays Carrie and the trailer gives us a glimpse of hope alongside the fear.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: That matters to me.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: When she starts enjoying herself, I want to believe it.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: I want to see the life she could have had.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Because the happy moments make the danger hurt more.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: You're watching her relax, and part of you wants to climb into the screen.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: Lovely potty, Carrie.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Now get your coat.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: We're leaving.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Here's a fun fact: Amazon says more than a thousand actors read for this role.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: More than a thousand.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: I get tired choosing a movie.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: They had to choose someone to carry Carrie.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: The biggest update in social media, the trailer shows classmates filming Carrie's panic during a deeply personal moment and putting it online.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Someone needs help.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Someone else sees content that feels like a strong reason to revisit the story.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: The cruelty can follow her home, she can leave the school without escaping the audience.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: And before adults say teeners are terrible, we invented the comments section.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: We don't get to act surprised.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: A grown person with a sunset profile picture will write the nastiest thing you've ever read.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: A sunset, your photo says in her piece.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: Your typing says someone should unplug your router.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: The old nightmare was that the school knew.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: The modern nightmare is that strangers know.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: Someone can watch the worst moment of your life while waiting for a cappuccino.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: Then rate it.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: That's frightening without anything supernatural happening.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Although these classmates are taking a huge risk filming a girl who can move their phones.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: Why is my tripod floating?
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's trying to get away from your personality.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: Then we have Carrie's mother, Margaret, played by Samantha Sloyan.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: This relationship gives the trailer another kind of pressure.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: School is cruel, home is controlling.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Where does Carrie breathe?
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Where can she ask a simple question without someone making her afraid of the answer?
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: I'm not interested in how Sloyan handles that control.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Someone can believe they're protecting you while making your word smaller.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: If the series gets that relationship right, a quiet conversation could be as scary as anything flying across the room.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: I also want a sensible adult at the school, just one.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Someone who hears about bullying and does something before booking a follow-up meeting.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: Matthew Lear plays Principal Grail.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Amber Midhunter plays Miss Desjardins.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: Matthew Lillard as a principal is a fascinating choice.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: I know him from Scream as Cooby-Doo.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: My brain is already expecting him to pull off a mask off the school caretaker.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, Amber Midhunter faced a predator in prey.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Now she gets dealing with teenagers.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: I would ask for a predator back.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: At least it doesn't start a group called No Offense and spend six hours being offensive.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about Carrie's power.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: Telekinesis means moving things with your mind.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: I understand why that's scary, but I live in Toronto.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: My first thought is practical.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: Could she move my car out of traffic?
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: Bring over my coffee, find me a parking space.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: The real test would be staying calm when someone stops at the top of an escalator.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: That person would be gently relocated to another floor.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: But in Carrie, those powers sit beside feelings she's struggling to understand.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: That's where the tension should come from.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: I want the series to connect the supernatural moments to what she's experiencing.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: The trailer also includes emergency calls and flashes of physical danger.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: Doesn't just things become much worse, although quick trailer cuts don't tell us exactly how those moments connect.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: I'm curious about the buildup, and yes, I want the horror to deliver.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: I'll take the feeling, I'll take the character work, but eventually that Jim needs to make me regret watching with the lights off.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: Eight episodes give the story room.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: It also gives me a question: can it use that room well?
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: More time could mean stronger friendships, a deeper home life, and a better look at the people who join in or look away.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: It could show all the moments when someone might have helped.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: That interests me.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: What I don't want is seven episodes of people announcing that something bad might happen.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: We know it's Carrie.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: Nobody's expecting the big event to be successful, big sale.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: The trailer also gives us Carrie on stage at a school dance wearing a crown.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: If you know the earlier versions, that image means something.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: If you don't, I'm leaving the famous ending alone.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: But as a filmmaker and producer, I see the crowded gym and immediately think about insurance.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: Gilbert, isn't her dress lovely?
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: Where's the fire marshal?
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: That's where I'm in life.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: I'm watching supernatural horror and asking who checked the rigging?
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Here's another fact.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: Carrie was Stevens King's first published novel in 1974.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: Brian De Palma's famous movie followed in 1976.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: 50 years later, with improved cameras and streaming.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Apparently, we're still working on being kind to the quiet girl.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: So my verdict on a trailer, I'm interested, the social media angle gives the humiliation a wider reach.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: Carrie's hope gives the story someone to care about.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: And Flanagan's approach makes sense for this material.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: The series still has to earn those eight episodes.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: But the trailer gives me a reason to show up.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: All eight arrive on Prime Video on October 7th.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: You can say just one episode.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Then suddenly it's two in the morning and you're eating bread in the kitchen.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: No toast, bread.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: The toaster made a noise, you've had enough surprises.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: Tell me in the comments, does Michael Flanagan make another carry worth watching?
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: And which version do you remember most?
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: And remember, if the quiet girl makes you chair move, don't ask her to do it again for TikTok.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: Offer her a cappuccino.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: Say thank you and update the emergency plan.
