- 0:00Speaker 1: It's more of Mark Mark Simone on seventoor. Hey, Michael Goodwin,
- 0:07Speaker 1: the best columnist in America. You can read his column
- 0:10Speaker 1: every Sunday and every Wednesday in the New York Post.
- 0:13Speaker 1: And if you go to the New York Post website,
- 0:15Speaker 1: you can get all of his columns. They're all up
- 0:17Speaker 1: there on the New York Post website. Michael Goodwin, how you.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Doing, Good morning, Mark, Thank you, Hey.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Great column yesterday. Hocheal and Mom Domie. This socialism, it
- 0:30Speaker 1: doesn't even sound good on paper. This tax the rich,
- 0:32Speaker 1: chase the billionaires away from the even on paper doesn't
- 0:36Speaker 1: sound good. What is wrong with them?
- 0:39Speaker 2: Well, look, I think Hoko is running scared.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Of course, he's up for a re election, and she
- 0:46Speaker 3: obviously feels the only way she can win is that
- 0:51Speaker 3: Mom Donnie urges his supporters in the city.
- 0:55Speaker 2: To vote for her.
- 0:56Speaker 3: I mean, it may work as a strategy, it's going
- 1:00Speaker 3: to bankrupt the state eventually. She keeps going this way
- 1:05Speaker 3: with taxing, taxing, taxing. You know, formally she said she
- 1:10Speaker 3: understood that many people had left the state for friendlier climbs,
- 1:18Speaker 3: But now she's doing it again. I mean, she's one
- 1:22Speaker 3: day she four higher taxes. The next day she opposes them.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Yeah, and now she's got an opponent who's a tough opponent.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Bruce Blakeman would be a great governor. He's very real,
- 1:33Speaker 1: he's really himself. He's not putting on an act of
- 1:36Speaker 1: any kind. She's got a good shot at losing, doesn't she.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Well, it all depends on the city, the way the
- 1:45Speaker 3: state works. Democratic candidate statewide have been winning for the
- 1:51Speaker 3: last twenty forty years by racking up the score in
- 1:56Speaker 3: the city and because there aren't enough people outside the
- 2:01Speaker 3: city for Republican Canada to make up the difference. So
- 2:06Speaker 3: that's why I think she's tilting too heavily, so heavily
- 2:10Speaker 3: toward Mamdanie and his high tax plans. Is because she
- 2:16Speaker 3: wants his supporters. Remember he got over.
- 2:19Speaker 2: A million votes.
- 2:20Speaker 3: She wants them to come to her, and so far
- 2:25Speaker 3: he is sticky with her. So he looks to me
- 2:29Speaker 3: like he is preparing to deliver as many votes as
- 2:33Speaker 3: possible for her in the city. That will give Blakeman
- 2:38Speaker 3: a real challenge.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Yeah, but he'll come through in the end. So is
- 2:45Speaker 1: this Pierre Tear tax the single dumbest thing you've ever heard?
- 2:47Speaker 1: And by the way, let's give Andrew Cuomo credit. He's
- 2:50Speaker 1: the guy that first came up with and first pushed it.
- 2:52Speaker 1: But have you ever heard of any dumber tax?
- 2:57Speaker 3: It's one of many dumb taxes. But you know the
- 3:02Speaker 3: of course Mamdani wanted higher personal income taxes and higher
- 3:08Speaker 3: corporate taxes. Now Holko said, no, we're not doing any taxes.
- 3:12Speaker 3: You know, we're we people are leaving already. And then
- 3:16Speaker 3: she came up with this cockamny plan of effectively raising
- 3:21Speaker 3: real estate taxes on second homes in the city.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Now again she access if this is.
- 3:29Speaker 3: A kind of harmless thing, But those properties are mostly condominiums.
- 3:35Speaker 3: They already paid direct real estate taxes in New York
- 3:40Speaker 3: Times estimated that each of these apartments may already detained
- 3:46Speaker 3: something on the order of fifty or sixty thousand dollars
- 3:50Speaker 3: a year and property taxes, not to mention the other
- 3:54Speaker 3: building taxes that they pay. They provide jobs in the neighborhoods, restaurants, retail,
- 4:02Speaker 3: all kinds of things that they contribute to the city.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Construction jobs.
- 4:08Speaker 3: So this is, as I say in the column, they're
- 4:11Speaker 3: like on an ideological bender.
- 4:14Speaker 2: They're like two drunks.
- 4:15Speaker 3: They're drunk on taxes and they're gonna kill the gold goose.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Hey, let me just correct one thing. This apartment over
- 4:23Speaker 1: here that Ken Griffin owns, the one Mom Donny singled
- 4:26Speaker 1: out two hundred and thirty million dollars. His real estate
- 4:30Speaker 1: tax is almost a million dollars a year already? Is
- 4:33Speaker 1: that okay? Million?
- 4:35Speaker 2: I believe that thousand?
- 4:37Speaker 1: Yeah, so.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Right? And that see that's probably on the high end. Uh.
- 4:47Speaker 2: But nonetheless it's not nothing, right? Why should he pay more?
- 4:52Speaker 2: Isn't that enough? I mean, what's what's enough? Nothing?
- 4:57Speaker 3: It's because of the stending that the gover Berman's do
- 5:00Speaker 3: in New York City and Albany. That's why they're forever
- 5:04Speaker 3: scraping a barrow, trying to get a little more out
- 5:08Speaker 3: of people's pockets.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Yeah, our budget is probably a double, at least double,
- 5:14Speaker 1: maybe triple what it should be. But is there any
- 5:16Speaker 1: politicians honest enough to say we need to cut the
- 5:19Speaker 1: budget dramatically? Is there any politician who can do that?
- 5:23Speaker 2: No, not on this not on the New York scene,
- 5:27Speaker 2: that's for sure.
- 5:28Speaker 3: You know, Mark, For a couple of years now, I've
- 5:30Speaker 3: been comparing New York's budget and New York State's budget
- 5:35Speaker 3: to Flora and state budget. Florida has three million more
- 5:39Speaker 3: people than New York City than New York states, and
- 5:44Speaker 3: New York state budget is going to be something like
- 5:47Speaker 3: two hundred and seventy billion dollars. Florida, the whole state
- 5:54Speaker 3: its budget is one hundred and seventeen billion dollars. So
- 5:59Speaker 3: what New York needs so much money for? Primarily one thing,
- 6:05Speaker 3: it's the unions. The unions drive up the costs of government,
- 6:09Speaker 3: and of course all the unions support every Democrat.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Yeah, and if you go to Florida, you'll notice services
- 6:16Speaker 1: are a lot better, from roads to schools to bridges,
- 6:19Speaker 1: much better down there. Yes, Hey, the war in Iran
- 6:25Speaker 1: looks like it's heating up again. Apparently it's a civil war.
- 6:28Speaker 1: We're negotiating with political leadership and they want to make
- 6:31Speaker 1: a deal, but they don't have control of this crazy
- 6:34Speaker 1: Republican guard that wants to keep fighting. How will we
- 6:38Speaker 1: ever settle that?
- 6:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, they're going to have to settle that themselves.
- 6:45Speaker 3: But look, I was hopeful over the weekend mark that
- 6:50Speaker 3: the seas fire might hold and therefore would become the
- 6:55Speaker 3: format for a lasting peace.
- 6:58Speaker 2: But I'm not sure that because the Iranians.
- 7:02Speaker 3: They have this attitude that if only they stick with
- 7:06Speaker 3: it long enough, Trump will back down. I think they're calculating.
- 7:12Speaker 2: That he will have to do that in.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Order to keep the Republican's hole in the midterms. So
- 7:19Speaker 3: they're making a bet that the result of their intransigence
- 7:24Speaker 3: will be Democrats weighing the House and maybe the Senate,
- 7:28Speaker 3: so that they are playing politics. They're interfering in American politics.
- 7:33Speaker 3: I think you would think the Democratic Party would want
- 7:36Speaker 3: to separate itself from that, but quite the contrary.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Yeah, so, hey, a lot of people have got a
- 7:43Speaker 1: lot of great reaction your column last week about the
- 7:45Speaker 1: New York Times and how crazy it went. It used
- 7:48Speaker 1: to be so revered and respected. The same thing with
- 7:51Speaker 1: Atlantic Magazine. Atlantic Magazine used to be such a prestigious magazine.
- 7:55Speaker 1: It's now right, crazy left wing magazine. Is there anything
- 8:00Speaker 1: left that you would actually call mainstream media? It doesn't
- 8:03Speaker 1: exist anymore, does it.
- 8:05Speaker 3: No, it's you know, it's sort of like the political parties, right,
- 8:09Speaker 3: the media has splintered right into into two camps ogee.
- 8:15Speaker 3: And of course there's some moderation with any many many institutions,
- 8:20Speaker 3: but fundamentally the media has become the brains of the
- 8:26Speaker 3: Democratic Party. And so if the New York Times or
- 8:29Speaker 3: The Atlantic endorses something Chuck Schumer says, you can death,
- 8:35Speaker 3: that's going to help Chuck Schumer among Democratic voters. The
- 8:39Speaker 3: other and the course that's going on is a Democrats
- 8:43Speaker 3: are having a civil war with Barack Obama and with Mamdani, Right,
- 8:48Speaker 3: I mean, Mamdani is now I think the most popular
- 8:53Speaker 3: important person in the Democratic Party.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Nobody talks about AOC anymore.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Anders and Mom Donnie, that's the Democratic Party for you today.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Yeah, there was a famous meeting with the Obama and Mamdannie.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Obama very gracious, But wouldn't you bet that when Obama
- 9:11Speaker 1: got backstage he looked at everybody and rolled his eyes
- 9:14Speaker 1: a little at Mom Donnie.
- 9:17Speaker 2: I would hope, though, but I'm not sure.
- 9:20Speaker 3: I look, I think Obama was, of course, the most
- 9:25Speaker 3: liberal president we've had in modern times, and I think
- 9:29Speaker 3: he's probably looks at himself as the grand old man
- 9:34Speaker 3: of the progressive party that the Democrats are becoming, and
- 9:39Speaker 3: so I think his appearance with Mom Donnie is a
- 9:43Speaker 3: calculated one to help himself as well as Mom Donnie.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Yeah, same thing with Trump and you know they just
- 9:51Speaker 1: laugh at this guy. But you need things to get
- 9:53Speaker 1: things done in New York. You got to play along
- 9:54Speaker 1: with mom Donny. So Michael Goodwin, great work. Call him
- 9:59Speaker 1: every Sunday, every Wednesday, always brilliant and thanks for being
- 10:03Speaker 1: with us.
- 10:04Speaker 2: My pleasure. Thank you, Mark.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Take care. You can read Michael Goodwin every Sunday, every Wednesday,
- 10:10Speaker 1: New York Post. All his columns are up on the website. Hey,
- 10:13Speaker 1: we got a lot to get to today. Oh remind
- 10:16Speaker 1: me to get to the Pope and Bill Maher particularly
- 10:18Speaker 1: good on the Pope. We'll get to that coming up.
- 10:20Speaker 1: And don't forget Buck and Clay will be here at
- 10:22Speaker 1: noon today. Excellent show every day noon to three. Dan
- 10:26Speaker 1: at three, you got the most listened to radio show
- 10:28Speaker 1: in America. Sean Hannity, Jesse Kelly at six and Jimmy
- 10:32Speaker 1: Fayla what a great show, very funny every night at
- 10:34Speaker 1: nine on seven to ten.
- 10:36Speaker 2: W
