- 0:01Speaker 1: A small show, the smallsy show. We are live in London,
- 0:05Speaker 1: so it would only be appropriate that we get a
- 0:06Speaker 1: lord on the show. The new season of House of
- 0:10Speaker 1: the Dragon premiere today on HBO Max. Let's take a
- 0:14Speaker 1: listen to it and then get star Steve Tusson, Lord
- 0:19Speaker 1: Valarian right here on the show.
- 0:22Speaker 2: These are turbulent times.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Have you not betrayed your queen? Bring egg on the
- 0:31Speaker 1: u zuppa to.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Me your father's realm, that's one of justice. Please welcome
- 0:39Speaker 2: House of the Dragon star Steve Tucson.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Hey, so Steve Tucson from House of the Dragon, Steve,
- 0:45Speaker 1: or should I say, Lord Valarian, how would you like
- 0:47Speaker 1: to be to you? Tell me? Hey, congratulations on already
- 0:54Speaker 1: one hundred percent on rotten tomatoes. So I've been told
- 0:57Speaker 1: that's amazing. They're the hardest to impress hard tomatoes. Someone
- 1:00Speaker 1: told me it's been certified fresh, and I was like,
- 1:02Speaker 1: I don't know what that. I don't know what that means,
- 1:04Speaker 1: but if it's good, it sounds like put it on
- 1:06Speaker 1: a poster. Yeah, yeah, exactly exactly, So we'll do that now. Obviously,
- 1:09Speaker 1: as I said, the shows out, can you do a
- 1:11Speaker 1: quick refresher where we find the end of it because
- 1:14Speaker 1: I don't I don't want to the spoilers, but I
- 1:15Speaker 1: also want to give people up to speed so they
- 1:18Speaker 1: know what they're in for.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Oh wow. Generally, where we are is that we are,
- 1:23Speaker 2: and season two ended was with the realm on the
- 1:27Speaker 2: verge of warfare. Basically it's going to happen for Carlis himself.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Here is the situation where he's lost his wife and
- 1:33Speaker 2: his kids and he's now with his estrange son, his
- 1:36Speaker 2: illegitimate son who hates him, and they're going to both
- 1:39Speaker 2: go to war together. And it's like, how do I
- 1:40Speaker 2: deal with my grief and how do I forge a
- 1:42Speaker 2: relationship with this guy and at the same time try
- 1:45Speaker 2: and stay alive.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Your character, their wife's death was epic. Yes, have you
- 1:50Speaker 1: thought about how you would like, well, if it wants
- 1:52Speaker 1: I mean, I don't I have to choose my words
- 1:55Speaker 1: care if your character has had to die? Yes, have
- 1:58Speaker 1: you thought about a way you'd like to go out?
- 2:01Speaker 2: Not specifically, okay, but I've said that if he has to,
- 2:04Speaker 2: because it.
- 2:04Speaker 1: WI always was your eyes.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, just like just glorious, glorious, like yeah, yeah,
- 2:11Speaker 2: because one of the things that they do, it's weird
- 2:12Speaker 2: is they sort of say to the people, who are
- 2:14Speaker 2: you going to die there? That was going to be great,
- 2:18Speaker 2: that's going to be fantastic. I'm going to be out
- 2:20Speaker 2: of a jaw. Yeah, but yeah, so but if you're
- 2:22Speaker 2: gonna go, then go in a blaze of glory.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Totally. And also too, I think it's like a rite
- 2:27Speaker 1: of passage. Particularly if you take on a character that
- 2:29Speaker 1: does have a death, you want it. You want to
- 2:31Speaker 1: know how it goes out, because there's some epic ones
- 2:34Speaker 1: absolutely the series.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean they just they constantly trying to find
- 2:39Speaker 2: inventive ways to.
- 2:40Speaker 1: To ask you, your character doesn't have a dragon, sadly,
- 2:45Speaker 1: do you have dragon phomo?
- 2:47Speaker 2: I used to yeah, okay, I did. I used to
- 2:50Speaker 2: where it's all through season two and most of the season.
- 2:52Speaker 1: And then he got in real life and then I
- 2:53Speaker 1: was like, yeah, this is the cat's fine, you know.
- 2:55Speaker 2: And then but then those guys told me what they
- 2:57Speaker 2: had to go through to actually shoot those scenes. Yeah,
- 3:00Speaker 2: didn't sound like much fun.
- 3:01Speaker 1: No, it's like a tennis ball, right, yeah, really, like
- 3:03Speaker 1: it's on.
- 3:04Speaker 2: A green screen or a blue screen and they're on
- 3:06Speaker 2: like this buck where there's a lot of crew just
- 3:08Speaker 2: sort of swinging them around, and they're throwing water and
- 3:11Speaker 2: blowing wind in their faces and yeah, just shouting at them.
- 3:14Speaker 2: And I thought, give me the ship. The ship's cooled.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Yeah, you must be able to get away with living
- 3:19Speaker 1: a pretty much normal life considering the dreads that your
- 3:23Speaker 1: character does. I was hoping to see them in real life.
- 3:26Speaker 2: We are no, absolutely true. One of the things that
- 3:29Speaker 2: I never forget. When we were just about to launch
- 3:32Speaker 2: season one, I went for a walk with one of
- 3:35Speaker 2: the showrunners and he said to me, he told me
- 3:38Speaker 2: about finding people looking through his bins. Yeah, we'd heard
- 3:41Speaker 2: about the media. Clark saying, well, I don't go out
- 3:43Speaker 2: as much as I normally do. I normally wouldn't so
- 3:46Speaker 2: far geah that And he said, but you you the
- 3:49Speaker 2: beard and the wig will save you.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Yeah. And have you noticed it does? Like if you,
- 3:54Speaker 1: let's say, you're image at a rat party or just
- 3:57Speaker 1: crew drinks or something like that, everyone else is like
- 3:59Speaker 1: getting spied across the room and it takes them a
- 4:01Speaker 1: little bit longer to clock.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Ye. Yes, even I mean even some of my own cast,
- 4:06Speaker 2: like when we remember there was a point are you
- 4:08Speaker 2: saying there some of your cast who don't know.
- 4:09Speaker 1: What you look now.
- 4:12Speaker 2: But there was a point, yeah, when we had finished
- 4:13Speaker 2: it against season one, I was out of function and
- 4:15Speaker 2: Emily Carey was that Emily played Allison's yeah yeah, and
- 4:20Speaker 2: I sort of went high and she looked at.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Me like, yeah, oh my god. Yeah that's great. So yeah,
- 4:25Speaker 1: it's fun, that's great. The show has such a huge
- 4:28Speaker 1: fan base, a passionate fan base. I would imagine being
- 4:32Speaker 1: part of it. You would have to be on the interm.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Did you go through like a like a mind map
- 4:37Speaker 1: of the families, like the territories? Did you have to
- 4:41Speaker 1: be inducted into No?
- 4:44Speaker 2: No, okay, next question, Yeah, no, I mean I do
- 4:48Speaker 2: recall a conversation where we were all of those of
- 4:51Speaker 2: us who were in season one. We were all sitting
- 4:54Speaker 2: around and I do remember Ryan trying to explain to
- 4:59Speaker 2: hers how you could make a dragon.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Yep, and it was he was so very serious about it.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Ye, carmination of like biology and alchemy, you know, and
- 5:08Speaker 2: look just like, well, it's fine, right, yes, give us
- 5:10Speaker 2: the script absolutely, But no, the most idea I was
- 5:15Speaker 2: given I was letting the box set up Game of Thrones. Okay,
- 5:18Speaker 2: so I watched all of those, Yeah, but in terms
- 5:20Speaker 2: of us. Somebody asked me about the day, you know
- 5:23Speaker 2: what Dragon does? Soun so right, and I'm like, I
- 5:25Speaker 2: don't know, I'm sorr yeah, wow, okay, I know what
- 5:28Speaker 2: Dragon Rainy is Just to ride.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Yes, pretty much. That's about as far as it goes.
- 5:33Speaker 1: And then you just you slink away and I hope
- 5:35Speaker 1: that now I'll put that up on social media.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Right, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:38Speaker 1: You know what I love about the show is obviously
- 5:41Speaker 1: the inter personal family dynamics, right, Not that people's real
- 5:46Speaker 1: life family dynamics ever manifest in the way it does
- 5:49Speaker 1: in the show, thank goodness, right, but it does. You
- 5:52Speaker 1: do find yourself going, my uncle really isn't as annoying
- 5:55Speaker 1: as I realized thought he was when you watch a
- 5:57Speaker 1: show like this, absolutely, yeah, thank thankful for small mercies,
- 6:01Speaker 1: but totally you know, is there anything you've learned about
- 6:04Speaker 1: family dynamics while making this show, Like, you know, be
- 6:07Speaker 1: more forgiving, you know, they're not as bad as they
- 6:10Speaker 1: could be.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Yes, all those things, and just having a bit more patience.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Oh okay, what it is, that's just take.
- 6:16Speaker 2: It easy because these people are killing each other if
- 6:18Speaker 2: they're not sleeping with each other, Yes, take a moment
- 6:21Speaker 2: it's really not that big a deal.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Yeah, you're like your brother or your sister. They're not
- 6:25Speaker 1: trying to be annoying. It's just who they are. Yeah, exactly,
- 6:28Speaker 1: come on. Yeah. My last question is show related, and
- 6:32Speaker 1: it was one word you'd use to describe the season
- 6:35Speaker 1: three finale. Oh, okay, one word.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Betrayal.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Okay, without getting too much away, Yeah, well, no spoilers here,
- 6:49Speaker 1: but betrayal is the worst word. Yeah, okay. Yeah, Hey,
