- 0:22Speaker 1: Sit yourself down somewhere comfortable, somewhere warm and quiet. Now
- 0:30sit with your back straight and your feet flat on
- 0:34the floor, and just focus on your breathing. Focus your
- 0:42mind on your chest rising and falling with each breath.
- 0:48Think of nothing else, just your chest rising and falling,
- 0:55and just breathe. You don't have to breathe deeply, just
- 1:01breathe naturally, and focus on how it's happening. Notice how
- 1:08your breath flows in and out. Notice how your chest
- 1:15gently rises and falls. Your body knows just how much
- 1:21air it needs. So now imagine that you are in
- 1:28out of space. Imagine that you are surrounded by the
- 1:33most amazing brilliant stars. They are everywhere. They are so bright,
- 1:41so shiny, and they twinkle like the sun shining down
- 1:46on the ocean. You can see many planets and galaxies,
- 1:53all with a vast array of colors. It's amazing. You
- 1:59can see many shooting stars, you see the tails of
- 2:03them so clearly, and you are in awe of the
- 2:07beauty of all of it. And it's so beautiful and
- 2:12so peaceful here, and there is no sound at all,
- 2:18just peace and quiet, and it feels like you are
- 2:25the only person in the whole universe, and you notice
- 2:36that you can breathe perfectly in outer space. You don't
- 2:41even need to wear a spacesuit. It's just you and
- 2:46the stars. Now you're going to do a little breathing
- 2:56exercise in outer space, which will help you to feel
- 3:01in tune with the whole universe, because right now you
- 3:06feel so very peaceful and calm. So relax and slightly
- 3:14took your chin towards your chest. Now you can choose
- 3:20yourself whether you want to breathe in through your nose
- 3:25or through your mouth. But when you do, begin to
- 3:30breathe with no pause between the inn and the outbreaths
- 3:36kind of like this with no pause. Just try that.
- 3:46Do it a few times now, focus on your breath
- 4:06as you breathe in, but breathe out naturally, just sigh
- 4:11it out. So if you breathe in through your nose,
- 4:15just do it this way. Breathe in and sigh it out,
- 4:22breathe in and siy it out. Just do that for
- 4:31just a few moments. Try not to move and just
- 4:35notice if you feel any different sensations when you breathe
- 4:39this way. So again, in through your nose and say
- 4:45it out. Now, place a hand on your belly and
- 5:23allow your breath to move your hand. Feel your hand
- 5:29rise and fall as you breathe. Just breathe in and
- 5:36breathe out. Feel your hand rising, feel it falling, and
- 5:45all the time you're surrounded by the most beautiful planets, stars, galaxies,
- 5:55and you feel amazing. Now move your hand to just
- 6:04under your rib cage. Feel how your breath moves your
- 6:10hand this way. Breathe in and breathe out. Breathe in
- 6:20and breathe out. Feel your hand as it rises and
- 6:24falls just under your rib cage. Okay, Now lift your
- 6:36hand to your chest area and do it again. Feel
- 6:40how your hand rises and falls with each breath. Breathe normally,
- 6:47but breathe longer, especially on the in breath, big deep
- 6:52breath in, and on the outbreath. Make that longer too,
- 7:00so that both the inhale and the exhale of the
- 7:03breath are about the same length as each other. Like this,
- 7:06So you breathe in, breathe in, and just do that
- 7:18for just a moment. Feel your hand rising and falling
- 7:26with each breath you take. Breathe in, breathe out, breathe in,
- 7:41breathe out. Now, Notice how much calmer you feel and
- 7:50so much more peaceful. So every time you do this exercise,
- 7:56it will help you to feel so much calmer. By
- 8:01breathing this way and bringing awareness to your breath, it
- 8:06can bring great benefits to your mind and to your body,
- 8:10and you will feel so much more peaceful, more relaxed.
- 8:17Now bring your breathing back to its normal rhythm, and
- 8:21for just a moment, sit quietly in your chair. Look
- 8:27at the stars, look at the planets, look at the galaxies,
- 8:34and just take in the most amazing colors that you
- 8:38see all around you. And it feels wonderful, and you
- 8:45just drift, just drift in space, feeling so peaceful, so calm,
- 8:53and so very very relaxed. Now bring your awareness back
- 9:42into the room you're sitting in. Notice how your body feels,
- 9:49how calm it feels, how peaceful it feels. See how
- 9:55calm and gentle your breathing is, and how relaxed your
- 10:00hole puddy feels. So take a long, slow, deep breath
- 10:06in and breathe out slowly and gently. Again, deep breath in,
- 10:17and slowly and gently, just sigh the breath out one
- 10:25last time, deep, breath in and slowly and gently breathe
- 10:33out now, keeping your eyes closed. Notice the sounds around you.
- 10:43What can you hear, Feel the floor beneath your feet,
- 10:51Feel the chair you are sitting on. How does it feel,
- 10:59feel your clothes against your body. Do you notice any
- 11:05difference now than when you started this meditation? Now, imagine
- 11:14yourself sitting on the top of a very large mountain,
- 11:19surrounded by luscious green grass, and you're sitting with your
- 11:24legs crossed, feeling really very comfortable, and it's a warm,
- 11:30sunny day, just how you like it. The sky is
- 11:34a beautiful blue with a few tiny clouds drifting by,
- 11:39and you can see for miles and miles and miles.
- 11:44So take a deep breath in and slowly and gently
- 11:49breathe out through your mouth, breathing in pure fresh mountain air.
- 11:59As you sit, you can feel the warmth of the
- 12:02sun on your skin, and it feels so good. It
- 12:07reminds you of times when you've been on holiday or
- 12:11just having a great day with your friends. Notice how
- 12:17your skin feels right now. Does it feel warm or
- 12:25does it feel a little bit cool? As the sun
- 12:32shines down on your body, it makes you feel very happy,
- 12:37so happy in fact, you would just like to sit
- 12:40like this all day long. So again, take a deep
- 12:47breath in and breathe in the sunlight. Feel the sunlight
- 12:52entering your body, Feel the warmth of it as it
- 12:56gently flows all around the inside of your body. You
- 13:05look around you from on top of the mountain. What
- 13:08can you see in the distance? Can you see feels?
- 13:15Can you see buildings? Or maybe you can see the ocean?
- 13:21What can you see? Now? Again, feel the sunlight as
- 13:31it touches your skin, feel its warmth, Feel it's life
- 13:37giving energy. You feel so alive right now that you
- 13:44feel you could run anywhere you wanted to without getting
- 13:49out of breath at all. You feel you could climb
- 13:53the highest mountain, an even bigger one than the one
- 13:57you're on now. Feel amazing right now, better than you
- 14:03have ever felt before. It's like the sunlight is restoring
- 14:07all of your energy. So close your eyes for just
- 14:15a few minutes and sit in the energy giving rays
- 14:18of the sunlight. Really feel its energy now. As you
- 15:56open your eyes, you begin to feel very light rain
- 16:00drops on your skin. It kind of tickles, it's so gentle.
- 16:08So you feel a rain on your skin. Does it
- 16:12feel the same as the sunlight did, Is it as
- 16:16warm or is it nice and fresh and cool? So
- 16:25as the sunlight restored all of your energy and lightness,
- 16:30the raindrops wash away any negativity that may have been
- 16:34left behind, so that you are now a clean and
- 16:39shiny new you, and you feel wonderful. And as you
- 16:48look up towards the sky, you see a beautiful rainbow
- 16:52just beginning to take on its glorious shape. Can you
- 16:57see it? Can you see the rainbow? You see that
- 17:07the colors are just perfect and they glisten with light.
- 17:13What is your favorite color in the rainbow? Or maybe
- 17:18you have two favorite colors, or maybe you just like
- 17:22a whole of the colors. Isn't it marvelous how the
- 17:29rainbow contains every visible color that there is or ever was.
- 17:38Can you see how the sunlight and the rain working
- 17:41together can create such beauty, just like we can if
- 17:48we work together. Can you see how every color emerges
- 17:57from one source? So for a few moments, just appreciate
- 18:07the beauty of the rainbow while the gentle raindrops cleanse
- 18:11and rejuvenate your whole being. How do you feel? How
- 19:50do you feel right now? You feel so alive, you'
- 20:00feel full of zest for life, full of energy. So
- 20:07take a big deep breath in and slowly and gently
- 20:14breathe out, feeling so peaceful, so calm, and so very
- 20:20very happy. Now imagine you're in a beautiful rainforest, and
- 20:28in this rainforest sits a lovely old log cabin, and
- 20:33this belongs to you. The log cabin has a covered porch,
- 20:40so you are sheltered from the rain, and on the
- 20:43porch sit an old wooden rocking chair, so you take
- 20:49a seat to rest for just a little while, gently
- 20:53rocking backwards and forwards. You notice it started to rain lightly,
- 21:03and you can hear it as it runs down the
- 21:05roof of your porch. You hear it drip off the
- 21:09edges and land in the grass surrounding your cabin. And
- 21:15there's something very comforting about listening to the rain drops
- 21:19as they dance around without them even touching your skin.
- 21:27The sounds of the rain are becoming louder now, and
- 21:31you hear the distant rumble of thunder, and it's like
- 21:35the forest is being washed by this rain, and it
- 21:38smells all lovely and clean. Some people are afraid of thunder,
- 21:47as it can be quite loud and sometimes scary, but
- 21:52if you breathe with the thunder, you'll realize just how
- 21:56natural and beautiful it really is. And you can use
- 22:02this breathing exercise to help you any time you feel
- 22:05afraid of something, or maybe if you're just feeling a
- 22:08little bit unsettled. Because we can't overcome any of our fears,
- 22:18so now, just become aware of your breath, take a
- 22:23few natural breaths, and soften and relax your body. Just relax. Now,
- 22:35breathe in slowly and gently through your nose for account
- 22:39of three seconds one two three. Now position your lips
- 22:46as if you're about to whistle, and then slowly and
- 22:49gently blow all of the air and your lungs out
- 22:53one two, three, four five. Make the out breath just
- 23:00a little bit longer than the inbreath. Just relax and
- 23:09notice how your body feels. You feel very peaceful and calm. Now,
- 23:16so again, breathe in slowly and gently through your nose
- 23:20for the count of three one two three, position your
- 23:26lips again as if you're about to whistle, but this
- 23:29time direct all of the air into the belly and
- 23:32exhale all of your breath out of your body three
- 23:36four five. One last time, breathe in slowly and gently
- 23:44through your nose for the count of three, one, two, three,
- 23:51position your lips as if you're about to whistle, and
- 23:55just exhale all of your breath out of your body
- 24:00three four five. Now, as you breathe, focus your attention
- 24:10on the sound of the rain and the thunder. Hear
- 24:15the gentle rumble of the thunder, and begin to synchronize
- 24:20your breath to a rhythm. So breathe in and out
- 24:24at the same time you hear the sounds of the thunder.
- 24:27Just try it and see. Give it a go. As
- 24:31you breathe with a thunder, you feel up one with it,
- 24:35and you find that it's not scary at all. In fact,
- 24:40it's very beautiful and in its own way, very very
- 24:45peaceful too. So for just a moment, breathe with the thunder,
- 24:51and notice how any fierce you may have just fade away.
- 24:57It's as if the rain and the thunder washing them away.
- 25:03Your breath of thunder dissolves any fears or worries you
- 25:07may have, leaving you feeling very refreshed and very cleansed.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Us very.
- 27:12Speaker 1: It's now time for you to return to your day,
- 27:17feeling very much at peace with yourself and with the world.
- 27:22And always remember you can return to the breath of
- 27:25thunder whenever you wish. So for now, take a deep
- 27:32breath in, and then slowly and gently let the breath
- 27:39out again. Deep breath in, and slowly and gently let
- 27:51the breath out one more time. Deep breath in, and
- 28:00slowly and gently let the breath out. Now, imagine that
- 28:07you are standing on a golden beach in the most
- 28:10beautiful bay you have ever seen. You look around and
- 28:15you see a sign telling you that this is Paradise Bay,
- 28:22and you can see a couple of small wooden rowing
- 28:24boats drifting along on the waves. There's a lovely lighthouse
- 28:30at the end of the bay and you see its
- 28:31light turning to warn the other ships. You can see
- 28:37gentle rolling hills on one side of the bay, and
- 28:40on the other side of the bay you can see mountains,
- 28:45and there are lush green trees dotted around all over
- 28:50the place with birds nesting in them. It's almost like
- 28:55a tropical paradise. You stand perfectly still, taking in all
- 29:03the beauty around you. What can you see? I'll take
- 29:13a few deep breaths and smell the salty air. Smell
- 29:17the refreshing aroama that you can only find by the sea.
- 29:25Feel it as it slips down into your lungs, making
- 29:29you able to breathe much easier. The air is so
- 29:34pure and so cleansing. Can you smell anything else here?
- 29:44Close your eyes and breathe deeply and slowly. What else
- 29:50can you smell? Can you smell the green, herbaceous smell
- 29:58of seaweed? Can you smell it as it dries on
- 30:03the rocks? Maybe the smell of seaweed is a very
- 30:07strong smell, and it smells a lot stronger now that
- 30:11the tide is out. Now, take off your shoes and
- 30:18your socks and walk barefoot on the beach. As you
- 30:23walk on the soft sand, feel it beneath your feet.
- 30:27Feel how soft it is really, Feel how warm it is.
- 30:32Feel it moved through your toes as you walk, Feel
- 30:37it as you walk, how it flicks up on the
- 30:40back of your legs. Now walk towards the sea, and
- 30:50as you do, feel the temperature of the sand begin
- 30:53to change as it becomes wet. Does it feel warm
- 30:59or cool on your feet? Does the sun feel different
- 31:04now that it's wet. Is it as soft now as
- 31:09it was before? Now, stand still and close your eyes
- 31:23and just listen to the sound of the sea. Keep
- 31:27your eyes closed and just listen. Can you hear the
- 31:35cries of the gulls and other seabirds as they fly
- 31:38around you and above you? Can you hear the ones
- 31:44in the distance? Can you hear any other living creatures?
- 31:59The slow, churning, white noise of the ocean is very comforting,
- 32:04and it makes you feel so peaceful and so calm.
- 32:09But to you is the sound loud or is it quiet?
- 32:15Does the sea sound calm or does it sound choppy?
- 32:23Hear the waves breaking as they come up and onto
- 32:25the sand near you. Hear the sound they make as
- 32:29a disperse on the sand. Can you hear it? Can
- 32:33you hear that sound? Listen to the different sound the
- 32:42waves make as they retreat again, Listen as they draw
- 32:48the sand or the pebbles back down the beach with them.
- 33:00There is a gentle breeze blowing keeping you feeling all
- 33:04nice and cool. Listen to the sound of the gentle
- 33:08wind swishing around your face and your body. Can you
- 33:13hear it making a rustling sound? Through your hair. Are
- 33:21there any other people on your beach? What other sounds
- 33:26can you hear? Can you hear them? Can you hear
- 33:30people talking? Or dogs barking? Maybe? What is the furthest
- 33:36sound you can hear? Now stand facing the breeze with
- 33:49your eyes still closed. Now open your mouth and taste
- 33:55the air. Stick your tongue out. Taste the air. Can
- 34:01you taste salt on your tongue? What does it taste like?
- 34:07Does it taste salty? Now lick your lips do they
- 34:15taste salty too? Now step a bit nearer to the sea,
- 34:26And as you do, you feel a wave break over
- 34:29your feet. Is the water warmer or cooler? It feels
- 34:37so good on your feet, refreshing them in the warm sunshine.
- 34:48Now open your eyes and pick up a selection of
- 34:51pebbles and shells from the beach. Sit down on the
- 34:55sand with them. Run your fingers and thumb all over them.
- 35:03What do they feel like? Do they feel hard? Can
- 35:08you feel any ridges or cracks on them anywhere at all?
- 35:15Are the pebbles smoother than the shells? Now rub them
- 35:21gently on your cheeks to see, just see if you
- 35:25can feel the difference. Now take a handful of dry
- 35:36sand and let it run through your fingers. Feel how
- 35:42the grains fall through your fingers. What does it feel
- 35:46like now? Compare a handful of wet sand and a
- 35:55handful of dry sand. How different do the textures feel?
- 36:01Is one maybe heavier than the other one? What do
- 36:03you think? And move the sand through the spaces between
- 36:13your toes. Feel the different textures of the smooth sand.
- 36:20Is the sand soft and powdery or rough and abrasive?
- 36:25Is it wet or is it dry? What does it
- 36:29feel like? To the side of you. You see a
- 36:39piece of seaweed nearby and you pick it up. What
- 36:45does it feel like? What does the seaweed feel like?
- 36:51Does it feel silky and smooth or does it feel
- 36:56slimy to the touch? Feel it now? As you sit there,
- 37:09you can see the rhythmic pattern of the waves as
- 37:12they form further out in the sea, and as you
- 37:16watch they slowly get bigger and build strength as they
- 37:20move towards the beach, and you watch as they break
- 37:24on the shore. You notice that some waves are bigger
- 37:30than others. Can you see them? You watch the delicate
- 37:40salt spray billowing up as each wave hits the beach.
- 37:45It's a beautiful sight to see, so exhilarating, and yet
- 37:49at the same time, so calming and so peaceful. You
- 37:56watch in the shallow water, the sand and small pebbles
- 38:00moving backwards and forwards as the waves come in and
- 38:05go out. It's so peaceful and relaxing here, so lovely.
- 38:16And you watch as the seabirds fly low over the
- 38:19ocean and then soar up again into the sky on
- 38:22a current of warm, salty air. Can you see them?
- 38:30Can you see any other living creatures on this beach
- 38:33or is it just you? You look further out to
- 38:42see what do you see? Can you see any boats?
- 38:52Can you see the horizon where the sky kisses the sea?
- 38:56Can you see where the sky ends and the sea begins?
- 39:04As you look at the horizon, can you see the
- 39:08different color of the sky. What does it just blend
- 39:12in with the color of the ocean. You wish you
- 39:17could stay here forever, just listening to the sounds of
- 39:21the ocean, feeling the sand beneath your feet, tasting the warm,
- 39:26salty air. But it's time now to return to your day.
- 39:34So take a deep breath in and slowly and gently
- 39:40breathe out, Take another deep breath in and slowly and
- 39:51gently breathe out. One last time, take a deep breath
- 40:00in and slowly and gently breathe out. Now, wriggle your fingers,
- 40:12wriggle your toes, stretch if you want to, and slowly
- 40:17open your eyes. Feeling so alive and so fresh, ready
- 40:23to carry on with your day,
