- 0:00Hey everybody, this is your GM, your back row
- 0:01dominance, your GM who currently is not on a
- 0:03team right now, but don't you worry about it,
- 0:04your hopium, hopium, hopium, hopium, hopium dealer
- 0:07here to give you episode 13 of the Stack and
- 0:09Shed series. Now in this series, we're covering
- 0:12all 32 teams, so everybody gets a chance to be
- 0:15talked about, all right? Now in this series,
- 0:17we're covering a few different topics and they
- 0:19include what went wrong, what do they need, stack
- 0:23or shed, their draft picks. one move I would
- 0:26do in their cap space right now in this episode
- 0:29we're going to do vol and we're talking about
- 0:32the Jacksonville Jaguars I'm gonna let you guys
- 0:34know right now this was by far the most difficult
- 0:36one to do because I tried to find something that
- 0:40was wrong with this team and I nicked and I picked
- 0:43and I couldn't find something until I did find
- 0:46something but it might be a little bit minute
- 0:48might be a big problem I don't know but let's
- 0:51talk about it All right, let's get into it. So
- 1:01what went wrong in the Jaguar season? And I will
- 1:04eventually say it was a slow offensive and defensive
- 1:06start. Despite the controversial hiring process
- 1:09of Liam Cohen, my expectations for the Jaguars
- 1:12this past season was very low because we've seen
- 1:15this same story over and over and over again.
- 1:20And that is the Jaguars will bring in a head
- 1:22coach who they believe is going to take this
- 1:24team to the next level. They may exceed expectations
- 1:27in their first year. They may win a playoff game,
- 1:30maybe two playoff games. Who knows? And for the
- 1:32rest of their tenure, they're trying to regain
- 1:34the momentum they had in the first season. Players
- 1:36are wanting out. There's division between the
- 1:39front office and the coaching staff. The coaching
- 1:41staff is leaking out things to insiders. There's
- 1:44just chaos everywhere. Although the Jaguars drafted
- 1:47Travis Hunter, I was never under the impression
- 1:50that he was going to be the sole reason why this
- 1:52offense goes to another level. Instead, I just
- 1:55thought that he was just going to be a Swiss
- 1:57Army knife that they can use in a variety of
- 1:59different ways. And as we saw last season, the
- 2:02offense didn't really take off until they acquired
- 2:04Jacoby Myers. According to Sumer Sports, From
- 2:07Week 1 to Week 9, Trevor Lawrence was 293 attempts
- 2:12for 175 completions, 1 ,840 passing yards, 9
- 2:17touchdowns, 6 interceptions, a 59 .7 completion
- 2:21percentage, while averaging 6 .2 yards per attempt,
- 2:24230 yards per game, with a 79 .7 passer rating.
- 2:29Now from week 10 to week 18, Trevor Lawrence
- 2:31was 267 attempts for 166 completions, 2 ,167
- 2:37passing yards, 20 touchdowns, 6 interceptions,
- 2:41a 62 .1 completion percentage, while averaging
- 2:448 .1 yards per attempt, 240 yards per game, with
- 2:48a 103 .3 passer rating. Defensively, I don't
- 2:51know why they started slow. I don't know if it
- 2:53was a coaching issue, if it was a schematic issue,
- 2:55if it was a player issue, but whatever it was,
- 2:58it took them a long time to figure it out. According
- 3:01to Sumer Sports, the Jaguars' defense from Week
- 3:041 to Week 9 allowed 2 ,689 yards, 4 .5 yards
- 3:08per play, while generating 10 sacks, 11 interceptions,
- 3:12five forced fumbles, and recovering four fumbles.
- 3:15But from week 10 to week 18, the Jaguars' defense
- 3:19allowed 2 ,473 yards, 3 .6 yards per play, while
- 3:24generating 22 sacks, 11 interceptions, six forced
- 3:28fumbles, and recovering five fumbles. Now with
- 3:30that being said, what do the Jaguars need? And
- 3:32that is a better start to the season. By starting
- 3:35off hot, you're applying added pressure on your
- 3:37division rivals to keep up with you. We saw last
- 3:40season that this division was very competitive
- 3:42until the end. So if I'm the Jaguars, I want
- 3:46to try to maintain at least a three to four game
- 3:48lead over the Texans and the Colts. Because at
- 3:52the end of the day, you want to try to lock up
- 3:53the division as quickly as possible. You don't
- 3:56want this thing to draw out until the last week
- 3:59of the season. Because the longer that this thing
- 4:01draws out, the better the chance that the Texans
- 4:04or the Colts or maybe even the Titans, surprisingly,
- 4:07may try to take the division from you. Now, with
- 4:10that being said, the question we all need to
- 4:11ask ourselves is stack. or shed. And I would
- 4:14venture to say stack. And the reason why I say
- 4:15that is because you guys were almost close to
- 4:18being the Bills last season in the playoffs.
- 4:20There's no need for you to scrap this team. But
- 4:22instead, you need to continue to build this team
- 4:24the right way. And that is good drafting, good
- 4:27signings, and allowing this team to grow. a lot
- 4:31of times we see that teams don't allow their
- 4:33players to grow. Players are going to make mistakes.
- 4:37Now, it's what you do with those mistakes that
- 4:39matters the most. Now, do I think this team is
- 4:41in the right direction with Liam Cohen? I don't
- 4:44know. It's still too early to tell, but I do
- 4:47believe they have the infrastructure to be successful.
- 4:50Looking at their draft picks, they have a second,
- 4:52three -thirds, a fourth, two -fifths, a sixth,
- 4:54and three -sevenths. Now, I don't expect the
- 4:56Jaguars to use all 11 picks, but instead, I think
- 4:59they're going to group some of them to either
- 5:01trade up, trade down, or use them for future
- 5:04assets in the 27 draft class. Now the one move
- 5:07that I would do is keep Travis Hunter at corner.
- 5:10By acquiring Jacoby Myers and Parker Washington
- 5:13showing some promise and the expectation that
- 5:16Brian Thomas is going to have a resurgence in
- 5:18this upcoming season, it lessens the need for
- 5:21Travis Hunter to be a dual threat player and
- 5:23increases his role of being a number one corner.
- 5:26When Travis Hunter is with the defense, they
- 5:28allow Seth 761 yards, 4 .9 yards per play, while
- 5:33generating 5 sacks, 5 interceptions, 1 forced
- 5:36fumble, and recovering 1 fumble. But when Travis
- 5:38Hunter isn't with the defense, they allow 4 ,401
- 5:41yards, 4 .9 yards per play, while generating
- 5:4427 sacks, 17 interceptions, 7 forced fumbles,
- 5:48and recovering 6 fumbles. Now maybe once in the
- 5:51blue moon you want to spice things up a bit,
- 5:53maybe get the crowd going, fine. i have no problem
- 5:56with that but to have him take offensive and
- 5:59defensive snaps every single game is unnecessary
- 6:03at this point looking at their cap space they
- 6:06have 6 .8 million now i expect for them to move
- 6:09some money around so that they can be players
- 6:10in that second and third wave of free agency
- 6:13while having more than enough to sign all their
- 6:15draft picks. Now I'm curious, whose contract
- 6:18can they restructure or extend in order to generate
- 6:20more cap space? Could they do something with
- 6:23Trevor Lawrence? Could they do something with
- 6:25Eric Armstead? Could they try to give an extension
- 6:27to Trayvon Walker and maybe you can do something
- 6:29with their cap space right now? I don't know.
- 6:31Time will tell. But I'm going to end this episode
