Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: We are out of the gates on Sport and State.
- 0:02Speaker 1: He's Withrow of Hutton. Welcome to Hutton and Withrow presented
- 0:05Speaker 1: by Hard Rock Bets. Good morning to you. Welcome to
- 0:09Speaker 1: Sport and State. Chad, good morning to you, man.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Good morning, Hutton. I love how we did our own
- 0:13Speaker 2: salute to service with the color of our shirts today
- 0:15Speaker 2: without even planning it. We just magically showed up on air.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Our mind meld was working perfectly. And we chose the
- 0:22Speaker 2: same exact color on the day. When we don't clear
- 0:25Speaker 2: it with each other about what shirt we're wearing, magically
- 0:28Speaker 2: our minds pick the same color no matter what. So
- 0:31Speaker 2: I'm saying, just like the NFL, this is our salute
- 0:33Speaker 2: to service day. But Hutton, on this show, it's a
- 0:35Speaker 2: salute to service every single day. We don't need a
- 0:37Speaker 2: special month or a special day. Salute to service every day.
- 0:41Speaker 1: And salute to Clay Travis Law. Chad, how do you
- 0:45Speaker 1: pick your color each day? What's your process? You know...
- 0:50Speaker 1: I wake up bleary-eyed.
- 0:52Speaker 2: I go into the shower around 5.30, 5.45, come out
- 0:56Speaker 2: of the shower. I look in my closet. I see
- 0:59Speaker 2: darkness outside my window every morning. The light's not even
- 1:03Speaker 2: up yet. And I say, oh, what time of year
- 1:06Speaker 2: is it? Okay, it's fall. What looks like fall in here?
- 1:09Speaker 2: And then I'll go and find something that I think
- 1:11Speaker 2: looks like fall or looks like summer or looks like
- 1:14Speaker 2: spring or whatever year I'm in. I'm not sophisticated enough
- 1:17Speaker 2: to know the color palette That's perfect for every season.
- 1:20Speaker 2: But that's my thought process is I choose a shirt
- 1:23Speaker 2: every morning. Oh, this one's clean. This one's hanging up.
- 1:25Speaker 2: I'm just going to throw this one on.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I still have not transferred all of the spring-ish things.
- 1:32Speaker 1: I've got my winter under the bed and then my
- 1:34Speaker 1: spring is in the closet. Does that make sense? Yep.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I've got to transfer those two things. And I always
- 1:39Speaker 1: wait because it's always like a false fall or a
- 1:42Speaker 1: false spring temperature outside. So this is the long sleeve
- 1:46Speaker 1: I had that was, you know... available to me this
- 1:49Speaker 1: morning that's that's how I chose it but you and
- 1:51Speaker 1: I always go same color for some reason it's crazy.
- 1:54Speaker 2: When you're in your home studio too like I gotta
- 1:56Speaker 2: get used to like once we get into like really
- 1:58Speaker 2: cold weather I will wear long sleeves yeah but when
- 2:01Speaker 2: I have you know I have HVAC in my home
- 2:03Speaker 2: so when my house is warm and I'm not even
- 2:06Speaker 2: having to step outside to fire up the truck and
- 2:08Speaker 2: drive anywhere yeah I find myself like I'll just wear
- 2:11Speaker 2: a short sleeve shirt because this is what I'd wear
- 2:13Speaker 2: around the house if I'm not going outside even in
- 2:15Speaker 2: the winter And I got to change my mind with
- 2:18Speaker 2: that to more fit sleeves and short sleeves and everything else.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Chad has HVAC. I do not. Chad has HVAC.
- 2:24Speaker 2: I do not.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Hutton is like an 1895 homeowner. where he just walks around.
- 2:30Speaker 2: He's chopping wood for the winter right now, right when
- 2:33Speaker 2: the show ends.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Speaking of all that, does your algorithm have you with
- 2:37Speaker 1: those AI deals where it's like life in 1843 and
- 2:41Speaker 1: you could click on it and it takes you back
- 2:43Speaker 1: to what it was like in point of view time?
- 2:46Speaker 1: Do you see those things?
- 2:47Speaker 2: I am happy to say that I'm not plugged into
- 2:49Speaker 2: life in 1843 algorithm. I'd love to know your Google
- 2:51Speaker 2: search history, Hutton, to know what has you on a...
- 2:55Speaker 2: on a, my little Prairie.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Yeah, pretty much like Christmas, Christmas cabin from 1843 is one,
- 3:03Speaker 1: one that popped up last night. Of course I clicked
- 3:05Speaker 1: on it, you know?
- 3:06Speaker 2: Yeah. Do you watch, uh, do you watch like the
- 3:08Speaker 2: screensavers that's like fireplaces and stuff at times?
- 3:12Speaker 1: Yeah. For YouTube. Yeah.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Nice little backdrop.
- 3:17Speaker 2: No country living 1843 algorithms for me. It's all either
- 3:21Speaker 2: coaches playing the saxophone as my algorithm in AI or
- 3:25Speaker 2: softball or travel softball parents complaining about something. That's my
- 3:28Speaker 2: entire algorithm right now. What do you think is in
- 3:31Speaker 2: the algorithm of Amy Adams Strunk, Titans owner?
- 3:36Speaker 1: Because it's not good. It's not good. Man, I was
- 3:41Speaker 1: driving around. I was listening to 104.5 The Zone, the
- 3:43Speaker 1: station we used to work for. And I was listening
- 3:46Speaker 1: to Buck Rising, and he covers the Titans for A
- 3:49Speaker 1: to Z Sports and for The Zone, the Buck Rising show.
- 3:52Speaker 1: And I overheard him say this.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Humiliation.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Self-loathing to listen to sports talk, Titans sports talk radio,
- 4:02Speaker 3: even though we obviously have a partnership with the Titans,
- 4:05Speaker 3: which I'm sure they love when I get.
- 4:07Speaker 1: On here on Mondays.
- 4:09Speaker 4: But.
- 4:14Speaker 3: How could you get to a place where your fan
- 4:17Speaker 3: base is so irritated and bothered where the recording of
- 4:22Speaker 3: her voice is being booed in the airport? And that's
- 4:25Speaker 3: the only interaction that there's really with fans anymore. I mean,
- 4:27Speaker 3: you know, she pops out of the tunnel and does
- 4:31Speaker 3: the beauty pageant wave. And then they trot to a
- 4:34Speaker 3: place on the sideline where she probably can't hear people.
- 4:36Speaker 3: She probably can hear people enough who are very displeased. And,
- 4:41Speaker 3: you know, on certain Sundays, there's nobody there to... chirper.
- 4:45Speaker 3: And I'm not saying that she should be chirped or
- 4:46Speaker 3: anything like that. It's, it's all very unpleasant. It's all
- 4:50Speaker 3: very unpleasant.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Uh, clearly unpleasant. I mean, what, when I heard that,
- 4:54Speaker 1: that about the, the recording green. So she has that,
- 4:58Speaker 1: Hey y'all welcome to Nashville. It's Amy Adams drunk.
- 5:00Speaker 2: And Hey y'all Titans owner, Amy Adams drunk.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Welcome to Nashville.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Howdy y'all. Welcome to Nashville.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Yeah. When I heard that, I'm thinking she gets that
- 5:08Speaker 1: got booed. Now, I don't know when the last time
- 5:11Speaker 1: he was at the airport. I don't know if it
- 5:13Speaker 1: was last week or whatever, but were these like Philly
- 5:15Speaker 1: fans from earlier in the season coming into town? It
- 5:19Speaker 1: would have to be Titans fans, though, to recognize... her
- 5:23Speaker 1: voice and her name, right? I mean, when I heard that,
- 5:27Speaker 1: I'm like, wow. It's to that point where people are
- 5:30Speaker 1: just randomly walking around. It couldn't be that many fans,
- 5:34Speaker 1: first off. It would just have to be like someone
- 5:36Speaker 1: that just got off the plane with another small group
- 5:38Speaker 1: of people just randomly booing in the middle of the airport.
- 5:42Speaker 1: When I heard that, I'm thinking, man, this is a
- 5:43Speaker 1: new low. This is our floor, Chad. This is our floor.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Continuing to dig new basements. We're going to go a
- 5:50Speaker 2: B2 next will be the building. We're in B1 right now.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Parking garage. We're going to go lower. We're going to
- 5:56Speaker 2: go to P2, parking garage two, then parking garage three.
- 6:00Speaker 2: They continue to dig lower and lower. The thought of
- 6:03Speaker 2: Titans fans going for a weekend getaway with the family
- 6:07Speaker 2: or a couple goes out of town or a guy's trip,
- 6:10Speaker 2: guy's golf trip goes out of town and you fly
- 6:13Speaker 2: back on Sunday and you're watching the game on your
- 6:15Speaker 2: flight back. And you know what's going to happen already,
- 6:18Speaker 2: but they continue to surprise and confuse. And you lose
- 6:22Speaker 2: in worse ways where you jump out to a great start.
- 6:24Speaker 2: You run the ball straight down the throats of the
- 6:26Speaker 2: Cleveland Browns. You're thinking, okay, this is going to be
- 6:28Speaker 2: a good Sunday. We're going to get a win here.
- 6:30Speaker 2: And then the Browns walk you off in Nashville. Then
- 6:33Speaker 2: you land and you're headed to baggage claim. And the
- 6:36Speaker 2: first thing that you hear is, howdy, y'all. This is
- 6:39Speaker 2: Titans owner Amy Adams-Strunk. Welcome to Nashville.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Boo.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Boo. is hilarious to me. I mean, that's going to
- 6:47Speaker 2: be the response because it probably seriously is Nashvillians flying
- 6:51Speaker 2: back in from a nice little trip. And the last
- 6:53Speaker 2: thing they want to be reminded of is how bad
- 6:55Speaker 2: their professional football team is and how it helped ownership is.
- 6:58Speaker 2: So when they hear that twang and that voice at BNA,
- 7:02Speaker 2: my first response would be probably to boo. I wouldn't
- 7:06Speaker 2: do it, but that would be my thought in my
- 7:08Speaker 2: head is to say, Oh gosh, here we go again.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Here's Amy Adams drunk in the sound of that voice. Yeah,
- 7:14Speaker 2: I get that being the response for Titans fans.
- 7:16Speaker 1: And he's talking about the tunnel. Oh, you can absolutely
- 7:20Speaker 1: hear things in the tunnel. I was down there when
- 7:22Speaker 1: Mike Keith was put into the Ring of Honor. I
- 7:24Speaker 1: was waiting in the wings, waiting for halftime, for the
- 7:28Speaker 1: halftime ceremony, Chad, and we're in the tunnel. And there's
- 7:32Speaker 1: like a tarp that's over the top of the tunnel
- 7:34Speaker 1: to keep fans from throwing stuff at players, basically, or refs,
- 7:39Speaker 1: or mainly refs, as you go into the tunnel. But
- 7:43Speaker 1: you can hear everything. And this is right before halftime
- 7:45Speaker 1: with Brian Callahan as head coach. And, man, you can
- 7:49Speaker 1: hear everybody ripping them apart while you're sitting there waiting
- 7:53Speaker 1: to go on at halftime because he's screwing up the
- 7:56Speaker 1: clock or something. And as he's running through the tunnel,
- 7:58Speaker 1: I may have video of this, he's running through the tunnel.
- 8:02Speaker 1: People are just letting him have it as he's running
- 8:04Speaker 1: by the owner who's about to go onto the field
- 8:06Speaker 1: for the halftime ceremony for the Ring of Honor for
- 8:09Speaker 1: Mike Keith. This is last year. I was just like, whoa.
- 8:12Speaker 1: I think Callahan was fired soon after.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Yeah, you knew that was the next step. Sorry, Jake
- 8:22Speaker 2: Keller points out it's Dolly Parton International Airport.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Oh, sorry.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Dolly Parton. Is that official? Do they officially just make
- 8:29Speaker 2: that change?
- 8:30Speaker 1: Yeah, the governor made the change.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Mark says not fully committed yet. It's just in proposal stage.
- 8:36Speaker 2: So I'm just going to go ahead and say we're
- 8:38Speaker 2: right and Jake's wrong. It's still B & A until
- 8:40Speaker 2: it's official. When we get off the exit, what is it,
- 8:44Speaker 2: 215A or whatever it is? When we get off the exit.
- 8:48Speaker 3: 216.
- 8:48Speaker 2: 216.
- 8:48Speaker 1: It still says B & A right there. That's all
- 8:50Speaker 1: I know. I just go, it's a creature of habit, Chad.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Once the signage has changed, we will acknowledge the official
- 8:56Speaker 2: change to Dolly Parton International. But Jake, for the purposes
- 8:59Speaker 2: of this show, it's still B & A. And I
- 9:03Speaker 2: posed the question in the YouTube chat, has any NFL
- 9:05Speaker 2: owner ever been booed by proxy at an airport in
- 9:08Speaker 2: their host city? I don't recall. We're really entering unprecedented
- 9:13Speaker 2: territory here. There's been owners that have been booed throughout time.
- 9:16Speaker 2: But the sound of an owner's voice on recording in
- 9:20Speaker 2: an airport getting booed by people landing back home in
- 9:25Speaker 2: Nashville is is really a new low for this organization.
- 9:28Speaker 1: I don't recall hearing other people, like celebrities at other
- 9:32Speaker 1: airports over the loudspeaker. Do you? I think this may
- 9:36Speaker 1: be a very, maybe not the only airport, but one
- 9:40Speaker 1: of the few that does this. I don't recall hearing like, hey,
- 9:44Speaker 1: welcome to Vegas. I'm so-and-so from the, I'm Steve Wynn.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Welcome to Vegas. I don't hear that. Tom Jones.
- 9:51Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:54Speaker 1: But in Nashville, you hear different country music stars. Mike
- 9:58Speaker 1: Keith used to do it. Yeah.
- 10:00Speaker 2: I feel like they've done this in other cities. I
- 10:02Speaker 2: think that I've heard some. Vegas feels like one we've
- 10:05Speaker 2: heard people that are having shows out there that will
- 10:09Speaker 2: greet you. But I don't know if it's like, okay,
- 10:12Speaker 2: Nashville's a music city, so you need audio to go
- 10:14Speaker 2: with it. You see the big signs that rotate.
- 10:18Speaker 1: At every airport. Oh, sure.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Here's a restaurant to go to. Here's a show to
- 10:21Speaker 2: see while you're in town. Here's this. But yeah, I don't,
- 10:24Speaker 2: I'm not familiar with a ton of airports. You know,
- 10:27Speaker 2: when I flew into the Providence airport to go to Newport,
- 10:31Speaker 2: Rhode Island last year, I don't remember being greeted by,
- 10:34Speaker 2: you know, Providence coaches as I, as I arrived. So
- 10:39Speaker 2: it does feel pretty unique today.
- 10:40Speaker 1: It's Rick Pitino.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Yeah. Hi everyone. Rick Pitino here telling you about Walter McCarty.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:48Speaker 2: I don't, I don't, I can't recall being greeted by
- 10:50Speaker 2: many voices at other airports. But this truly is a
- 10:54Speaker 2: new low for this organization. And the question I keep
- 10:58Speaker 2: coming back to is, what can she do? Short of
- 11:01Speaker 2: selling the team to appease people, what can she do
- 11:04Speaker 2: right now?
- 11:05Speaker 1: Selling the team, yes. But she only needs to sell
- 11:07Speaker 1: a portion based on my plan. My plan for greatness
- 11:10Speaker 1: is to allow someone to buy in at the minority
- 11:13Speaker 1: stake ownership. Minority ownership. And the Tom Brady treatment. Go
- 11:19Speaker 1: get Nick Saban. They just did this with the Nashville
- 11:22Speaker 1: Predators right down the street, right down Broadway, across the river.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Go get a Nick Saban-esque owner that is running your team,
- 11:30Speaker 1: that knows ball, that is just straight ball, who has
- 11:33Speaker 1: a business model that works, has a plan for sports
- 11:37Speaker 1: that works. It doesn't have to be football. It can
- 11:41Speaker 1: transcend sports. Saban's doing it. He's involved in the interviews
- 11:45Speaker 1: for the general manager of the Nashville Predators. And he's
- 11:49Speaker 1: doing it based on what works for him. I understand
- 11:54Speaker 1: what they're doing there. That to me, I put trust
- 11:58Speaker 1: behind that more than trust behind a football organization who
- 12:03Speaker 1: has a model like Google. That doesn't make sense to me. No.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Because that trickles down to your football team. Everyone's got
- 12:12Speaker 1: a piece in the pie on decision-making. Everyone's insulated on
- 12:16Speaker 1: the hierarchy of who decides what. No, no, no, no.
- 12:19Speaker 1: You need to have laser focus on your product, and
- 12:22Speaker 1: the product is football. It is a football organization, not entertainment,
- 12:25Speaker 1: even though you have the dome coming.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm with you. Nick Saban doesn't even know anything
- 12:30Speaker 2: about hockey, but he knows about sports structure, leadership. He
- 12:34Speaker 2: knows who's going to be good in certain positions, and
- 12:37Speaker 2: it's been great for that partnership with the National Predators.
- 12:40Speaker 1: That's the word, great. Nick Saban is great at being great. Yeah,
- 12:44Speaker 1: and he's great at being a leader.
- 12:45Speaker 2: He understands how an organization needs to be run to
- 12:49Speaker 2: be a machine, to be able to face adversity from
- 12:53Speaker 2: the outside and from the inside. All these different things
- 12:56Speaker 2: you have to have in place, different systems, structures, the
- 12:59Speaker 2: right people involved. Everything else, he knows how to do it.
- 13:02Speaker 2: I mean, to your point, you don't want to run
- 13:03Speaker 2: it like Google. Less sleep pods for naps and more
- 13:08Speaker 2: tough leadership like Nick Saban would be great for the
- 13:11Speaker 2: Tennessee Titans.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Establish your identity instead of speaking the identity. Yeah. I mean,
- 13:17Speaker 1: you don't have to plaster it all over every wall
- 13:20Speaker 1: in the facility. You just need to do it. Boots
- 13:23Speaker 1: on the ground. And to me, there's a– They're losing
- 13:28Speaker 1: their fan base. They haven't totally lost it. They can
- 13:32Speaker 1: win it back. And I say they. Ownership can win
- 13:34Speaker 1: it back. I think the most that they could sell
- 13:37Speaker 1: in minority stake, at least in the equity, would be 11%. Well,
- 13:43Speaker 1: that's what the other owners of the team have is 11%.
- 13:47Speaker 1: She would still be the controlling owner. But you have,
- 13:50Speaker 1: instead of, you're not hiring someone, you're partnering with someone.
- 13:53Speaker 1: I think that's the key, is partnering with someone who
- 13:56Speaker 1: is great at being great. That's what the Colts are
- 13:59Speaker 1: doing with Manny. They're trying to do. That's what just
- 14:02Speaker 1: happened in Vegas with Tom Brady. Hey, everybody, it's Tom Brady.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Welcome to Las Vegas. That's not getting booed.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm with you. Just some structure of leadership and...
- 14:16Speaker 2: A direction and a purpose.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Getting back to, okay, what's the solution, right? We're always
- 14:23Speaker 2: trying to reach what can be done because we can
- 14:27Speaker 2: acknowledge this until we're blue in the face, and we will,
- 14:30Speaker 2: of where the Titans fan base is right now, how
- 14:32Speaker 2: bad it is, all those things, right?
- 14:34Speaker 1: Right, right.
- 14:35Speaker 2: By the way, Brooks, I'm throwing off because Brooks says
- 14:38Speaker 2: in the YouTube chat that in Birmingham they have a
- 14:40Speaker 2: Morgan Freeman impersonator. who greets people on the loudspeaker when
- 14:45Speaker 2: you arrive, and I'm trying to wrap my head around that.
- 14:47Speaker 2: A lot of talk about the Nate Bargatze, the clip
- 14:50Speaker 2: that runs constantly.
- 14:52Speaker 1: That's one in the airport, yeah.
- 14:54Speaker 2: We've really struck a nerve, struck a chord with people
- 14:56Speaker 2: on airport recordings with this, but I can't get past
- 14:59Speaker 2: what Brooks is saying. I've never been to Birmingham Airport.
- 15:02Speaker 2: It's only two and a half hours from us, so
- 15:03Speaker 2: I've driven every time I've gone to Birmingham.
- 15:06Speaker 1: I want to know, other than Nashville, where do you hear–
- 15:10Speaker 1: Voices of someone who is from that area that everyone
- 15:14Speaker 1: would recognize.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Brooks says he was greeted by a voice recording from
- 15:17Speaker 2: old Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot when he arrived in Chicago
- 15:21Speaker 2: in 2021. That's another time he could remember being greeted
- 15:24Speaker 2: by someone. Keep them coming. If you know other airports
- 15:27Speaker 2: that definitely have recordings, let us know. A lot more
- 15:30Speaker 2: people are coming. Way more well-traveled than we are. Do
- 15:32Speaker 2: you hear Kid Rock when you go to Detroit, or
- 15:34Speaker 2: do you only hear it in Nashville? Or both.
- 15:37Speaker 1: It's the Kid.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Imagine the people who could go both. You could do both.
- 15:41Speaker 2: What an accomplishment if you're a voice recording in multiple airports,
- 15:45Speaker 2: that you've done enough in different markets where you could
- 15:48Speaker 2: have your voice.
- 15:49Speaker 1: In an airport in different places. There is a status there.
- 15:51Speaker 1: If you are the voice of an airport, there is
- 15:53Speaker 1: a status that comes with that. And right now, the
- 15:56Speaker 1: Nashville one is being booed. Yes, I am.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Totally true. Jake Keller says, we need Clay, Nate Bargatze,
- 16:04Speaker 2: and Bussin' with the Boys to come together and buy
- 16:08Speaker 2: the Titans. I think Clay and Nate Bargatze are in
- 16:11Speaker 2: a different tax bracket than the Bussin' with the Boys guys,
- 16:14Speaker 2: and I love the Bussin' with the Boys guys, but
- 16:16Speaker 2: I can tell you Clay's in a higher tax bracket,
- 16:19Speaker 2: and Clay's nowhere close to being able to purchase an
- 16:22Speaker 2: NFL team, and he's worth a lot of money.
- 16:24Speaker 1: But he could be in multiple airports as often as
- 16:27Speaker 1: he's down in Florida.
- 16:28Speaker 2: That's true. Clay could be in the West Palm beach airport.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:31Speaker 2: He's getting close to being in LaGuardia. He's up there enough.
- 16:34Speaker 2: LaGuardia Fox DC. He could be in a lot of
- 16:37Speaker 2: airports for sure.
- 16:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Keep, keep them coming. Suggestions of people that could be
- 16:40Speaker 2: in multiple airports at one time. Here's what I'm getting
- 16:43Speaker 2: to hunt with the Titans solutions for Amy Adams, Trump
- 16:47Speaker 2: short of just selling off the team, which I would
- 16:49Speaker 2: love to do.
- 16:51Speaker 3: Right.
- 16:51Speaker 2: I would love it, but it's not going to happen.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Right.
- 16:53Speaker 2: So it's not reality. Clean house. I mean, completely. Yeah.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Burke Nihill. Mike Borgonzi, Robert Sala, and his staff. Start
- 17:03Speaker 2: over with what you've been saying, someone to direct football operations,
- 17:07Speaker 2: and run it on down the list. Basically, you're a
- 17:10Speaker 2: representative but is actually a football person that is a
- 17:13Speaker 2: great leader that knows football organizations. Doesn't even have to
- 17:16Speaker 2: be NFL, but football organization. That person hires a GM.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Then they together will hire a coach. That coach hires
- 17:24Speaker 2: their staff. You start over. And it's not just that.
- 17:28Speaker 2: You can't, as Buck was saying in that video, just
- 17:31Speaker 2: give the princess wave from the corner of the end
- 17:33Speaker 2: zone and not say anything. You need a full mea culpa.
- 17:38Speaker 2: You have to have a full presentation of, guys, it's
- 17:42Speaker 2: all my fault. We weren't doing the right things. We
- 17:46Speaker 2: had some of the wrong people in charge. It was
- 17:48Speaker 2: a bad mix. I went from firing one person to
- 17:52Speaker 2: firing the next. Full mea culpa. If you want to
- 17:55Speaker 2: get this fan base and this city to buy in
- 17:57Speaker 2: again completely as you're going into a new building, you've
- 18:01Speaker 2: got to clean house and you've got to fall on
- 18:04Speaker 2: the sword if you're Amy Adams Strong. It starts with me.
- 18:08Speaker 2: I'm the owner. My bad, guys. And now we're going
- 18:11Speaker 2: to go find some people to help us with this
- 18:14Speaker 2: and to get this thing right and moving in the
- 18:17Speaker 2: right direction because it has been stagnant right now in awful,
- 18:22Speaker 2: in an awful place for this organization for far too long.
- 18:25Speaker 2: And now it's time to get moving forward again.
- 18:28Speaker 1: And see, in my plan, in my 10-step plan, back
- 18:32Speaker 1: to Craig, you have an owner, a partner, quote unquote,
- 18:37Speaker 1: that is doing all of this. That is the face
- 18:40Speaker 1: of football. And look, we're very fickle as a fan
- 18:45Speaker 1: base in anything. Pac-Man Jones was cheered for returning a
- 18:51Speaker 1: punt after he's going through everything he's done. Deshaun Watson
- 18:56Speaker 1: is on the field for the Browns after calling off
- 18:57Speaker 1: the fan base, and the Browns are traveling to Nashville
- 19:00Speaker 1: to watch him play quarterback. Point being, just win, and
- 19:05Speaker 1: you win the fan base back. But how do you
- 19:07Speaker 1: get back to winning? It's not with the structure that
- 19:09Speaker 1: they have right now. And yes, they need to clean house.
- 19:12Speaker 1: And it's not because everybody sucks. It's because elements of
- 19:16Speaker 1: the structure are so bad that if you start to
- 19:20Speaker 1: just pinpoint one area, well, who's doing the hiring? Who
- 19:24Speaker 1: do you trust to do the hiring to replace that
- 19:27Speaker 1: person with the right person? Who's on the board that's
- 19:30Speaker 1: bringing you the finalists? They do like a first stage
- 19:37Speaker 1: interview process. And then they bring the finalist of that
- 19:42Speaker 1: group to ownership. that is then interviewed in person for
- 19:47Speaker 1: the second sweep. And even with solid solid interviewed one time,
- 19:51Speaker 1: you know, like, so my point is who's, who's, who's
- 19:55Speaker 1: a part of the hierarchy that is about ball. If
- 20:00Speaker 1: you've cleaned house, who do you trust to lead your
- 20:03Speaker 1: organization in order to replace these people? That's the key part.
- 20:09Speaker 1: You can fire all you want to. Who are you replacing?
- 20:12Speaker 1: That's where they've got it wrong. I don't disagree with
- 20:14Speaker 1: many of her moves, honestly. I read those statements that
- 20:20Speaker 1: she was releasing whenever she would release statements instead of Burke.
- 20:24Speaker 1: It was all about, this is not good enough. We
- 20:27Speaker 1: have a standard here. We need to win. We're about championships.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Get back to that, but you have to have someone
- 20:34Speaker 1: that you're that you're pointing to that you've hired to
- 20:38Speaker 1: lead that process, uh, delegate, but delegate to the right people.
- 20:43Speaker 1: And that that's, that's the key with everything and getting
- 20:46Speaker 1: back on track, Chad, it's, it's clean house, but who's
- 20:49Speaker 1: doing the hiring. I wouldn't make it a president. I
- 20:52Speaker 1: would make it a partner. It's a different vibe with that.
- 20:56Speaker 2: I don't disagree necessarily with who she's gotten rid of
- 20:59Speaker 2: other than getting rid of Mike Vrabel. And I think
- 21:02Speaker 2: the timing of John Robinson.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Was way off. The timing is everything there.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Was way off. But the problem is she's yet to
- 21:08Speaker 2: clean house.
- 21:09Speaker 1: That's it.
- 21:10Speaker 2: It's one step at a time. It's... It's insulation. Let's
- 21:13Speaker 2: fire John Robinson and then pair Rand Carthon with Mike Vrabel.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Then fire Mike Vrabel and then bring on Brian Callahan.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Then fire Rand Carthon and bring on Mike Borgonzi for
- 21:23Speaker 2: a year. Then Brian Callahan is next. Then, oh, what
- 21:26Speaker 2: is Chad Brinker's role? No one knows. Eventually he's going
- 21:29Speaker 2: to get let go also. It's this piecemeal one thing
- 21:32Speaker 2: at a time instead of just saying, it's done. We're
- 21:34Speaker 2: going to wipe it clean and someone else is going
- 21:36Speaker 2: to make the decision.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Someone came up with a structure where we could not
- 21:39Speaker 1: define Brinker's job. Brinker's sitting next to Borgonzi at a
- 21:46Speaker 1: presser when they fire Callahan, and Borgonzi's sitting there not
- 21:50Speaker 1: saying a word because he doesn't know if he can
- 21:52Speaker 1: or not because the hierarchy of the structure is so
- 21:54Speaker 1: messed up. And then all of a sudden the trade
- 21:56Speaker 1: deadline comes around, and it's just Borgonzi up there. That's
- 22:00Speaker 1: how it should be. The structure would really change then,
- 22:03Speaker 1: not at the end of the season. But getting back
- 22:06Speaker 1: to the whole business model, what is the business model?
- 22:11Speaker 1: The business model right now of the Titans is about entertainment.
- 22:15Speaker 1: The football organization needs to get back to being a
- 22:18Speaker 1: football organization from the top down. That's the only way
- 22:22Speaker 1: they get back to winning. Because you're right, it's pinpointing
- 22:26Speaker 1: and it's finger pointing one at a time because people
- 22:29Speaker 1: at the top are so insulated, they're pointing to other people.
- 22:33Speaker 1: And when you replace those, who are you replacing them with?
- 22:36Speaker 1: Someone else that's going to get fired in two years.
- 22:39Speaker 1: It's an endless cycle. unless you clean house and you
- 22:42Speaker 1: get back to president, general manager, head coach, and you're
- 22:45Speaker 1: delegating that through who? It doesn't have to be the
- 22:49Speaker 1: controlling owner who makes that hire. It needs to be
- 22:51Speaker 1: someone who knows about the product that you're selling. And
- 22:54Speaker 1: it's not about putting a roof over the stadium and
- 22:57Speaker 1: having a stage there or having a wrestling ring in
- 23:00Speaker 1: the middle of the 50-yard line. It's about kicking the
- 23:03Speaker 1: football off next fall. That would be the focus. Right now,
- 23:07Speaker 1: it's about what's the first event? Is it Jelly Roll
- 23:09Speaker 1: or is it someone else?
- 23:12Speaker 2: I'm totally with you. Get a football person in charge
- 23:15Speaker 2: to make football decisions. And if you're Amy Adams Strunk,
- 23:19Speaker 2: I need to hear some fault. If I'm a fan,
- 23:23Speaker 2: if I'm paying good money for this.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Yes.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Again, there needs to be a mea culpa from her,
- 23:28Speaker 2: not from anyone else, not through a written statement and
- 23:32Speaker 2: not through some mouthpiece that she pays to speak on
- 23:35Speaker 2: her behalf. I need to hear it from Amy Adams
- 23:38Speaker 2: Strunk at some point also when they decide to To
- 23:41Speaker 2: clean house.
- 23:42Speaker 1: And that should be the next step. Falling on the
- 23:44Speaker 1: sword would be cleaning house. Totally. You know? But they're
- 23:48Speaker 1: moving into a new house, Chad.
- 23:50Speaker 2: That's right. With HVAC.
- 23:52Speaker 1: With HVAC.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Unlike your 1843 living, this new house will have HVAC
- 23:57Speaker 2: and indoor plumbing, I'm being told.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Yes. No outhouse. No Johnny House here.
- 24:02Speaker 2: No.
- 24:02Speaker 1: No. Chad, Pat McAfee. fearing for his life.
- 24:08Speaker 2: We got to get into this. There's a lot of
- 24:11Speaker 2: video to play, a lot of reaction that I have, too.
- 24:15Speaker 2: I have a lot of reaction to the reaction from
- 24:18Speaker 2: Pat McAfee. Yes. And then I have reaction to the
- 24:21Speaker 2: reaction from Utah in response to Pat. There's a lot
- 24:25Speaker 2: of reaction to get to.
- 24:26Speaker 1: And then we react to the reaction of the reaction.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Overreaction. Yes.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Straight ahead here on Hutton and Withrow.
- 24:32Speaker 2: This year, the party's getting even bigger.
- 24:34Speaker 3: Hey, there's Jay Boyd.

- 25:52Speaker 1: jump into the live chat where Chad is keeping an
- 25:55Speaker 1: eye on that throughout the morning. Um, So what is
- 25:58Speaker 1: going on out in Utah?
- 26:00Speaker 2: What is going on out in Utah, Hutton, is Pat
- 26:03Speaker 2: McAfee yesterday stirred up a hornet's nest because he went
- 26:07Speaker 2: on his show when asked, I think, from A.J. Hawk
- 26:10Speaker 2: about his experience in Salt Lake City at the University
- 26:13Speaker 2: of Utah, and Pat McAfee had this to say about
- 26:16Speaker 2: college game day in Utah.
- 26:17Speaker 4: I enjoyed this college football season. Did not enjoy University
- 26:21Speaker 4: of Utah. Did not enjoy it. I think everybody.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Can't bet a thousand.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Yeah, can't all be great.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:26Speaker 4: Yeah, you're right. I guess that is true. You know
- 26:29Speaker 4: why I didn't like it mostly? Right before I go
- 26:32Speaker 4: out there, okay? Right before I go out there, I
- 26:35Speaker 4: see the University of Utah's Instagram page, okay? The universities.
- 26:42Speaker 2: This is....
- 26:44Speaker 4: This is how we are. They put out an impression
- 26:47Speaker 4: of Pat McAfee, and one kid goes, oh, he's corny.
- 26:50Speaker 4: Another kid calls me creepy. If these kids would have
- 26:53Speaker 4: done this on their own blogs, all good. I mean,
- 26:56Speaker 4: everybody's taking shots at me anyways for everything. I get it.
- 26:58Speaker 4: If the two ladies that were hosting that put that
- 27:01Speaker 4: out on their own blog, I'd be okay with it. Hey,
- 27:03Speaker 4: you're allowed to do what you want. The university puts
- 27:05Speaker 4: that out? like as I'm about to go out and
- 27:08Speaker 4: do an infomercial for the place, and then I'm walking
- 27:10Speaker 4: in front of thousands of these people. This is how
- 27:12Speaker 4: the university feels about it. It's an uncomfortable feeling. I'm like,
- 27:15Speaker 4: this is, you know, I'm getting a lot of shrapnel
- 27:17Speaker 4: from a lot of places. The university is putting this out.
- 27:21Speaker 4: That is something I just had never experienced really in
- 27:24Speaker 4: my entire life. So it kind of sent me off
- 27:27Speaker 4: a little bit. It made me feel a little bit weird,
- 27:29Speaker 4: I would say. It made me feel a little bit weird.
- 27:31Speaker 4: And then I thought to myself, has anything like really
- 27:33Speaker 4: scary happened at like a college event? gathering in the
- 27:37Speaker 4: state of Utah recently. Like, do we think we should
- 27:39Speaker 4: be amplifying reasons for why people hate my guts as
- 27:43Speaker 4: a university? I don't know. So it was just, it
- 27:46Speaker 4: was a lot of mixed feelings for me going out there.
- 27:49Speaker 4: And then obviously the kicker goes only $ 1 million. Only
- 27:53Speaker 4: $ 1 million. It's like, all right, I hate this place.
- 27:56Speaker 4: I hate this place. They got a good football team though.
- 27:58Speaker 4: They got a good football team, but.
- 28:00Speaker 2: I've never been more uncomfortable.
- 28:02Speaker 4: Honestly, in my life, walking in front of a group
- 28:04Speaker 4: of people after watching their university put out a post,
- 28:07Speaker 4: basically dogging me just moments before I saw a lot
- 28:09Speaker 4: of people say they didn't even say anything that bad.
- 28:11Speaker 4: It was like, it's the university putting that out. It's
- 28:13Speaker 4: not like, A blog. It's the actual place that we're at.
- 28:16Speaker 4: So I'll hopefully never go to that place. I think
- 28:19Speaker 4: I have COVID or something whenever game day goes back
- 28:22Speaker 4: if I'm still a part of game day. But I
- 28:25Speaker 4: did not enjoy the morning there, but they do have
- 28:27Speaker 4: an incredible student section from my understanding, and they have
- 28:30Speaker 4: a good football team. So I'm pretty impressed. Just didn't
- 28:33Speaker 4: like the university taking a shot at me. New York Times,
- 28:37Speaker 4: do what you got to do, I guess. I guess
- 28:40Speaker 4: you kill me. All the sports media tabloids people, they
- 28:42Speaker 4: quote me out of context. They build a narrative about me.
- 28:45Speaker 4: But you got people that really hate my guts out there,
- 28:47Speaker 4: like really hate my guts. And I understand it. I
- 28:49Speaker 4: guess this is just a part of what life is,
- 28:51Speaker 4: especially because I have a lot of things that are
- 28:52Speaker 4: very hateable about me. I could certainly understand that. But
- 28:55Speaker 4: the university gaslighting some of it right before I go
- 28:58Speaker 4: out there to talk about your school, especially with what
- 29:01Speaker 4: happened 40 miles south of Salt Lake City a little
- 29:03Speaker 4: over a year ago. It's like I didn't. I did
- 29:06Speaker 4: not enjoy that. I was very, very uncomfortable. I was
- 29:10Speaker 4: just very, very uncomfortable. So I think it made me
- 29:13Speaker 4: not have the greatest morning. But it was a phenomenal
- 29:16Speaker 4: game day. Thank you to everybody that showed up. Obviously,
- 29:19Speaker 4: Dalton Kincaid did a great job. He picked UCF to
- 29:22Speaker 4: beat BYU, only one. He called Malachi Toney with multiple touchdowns.
- 29:26Speaker 4: They did that. He called Utah.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Shout out Dalton Kincaid on all of his great predictions.
- 29:31Speaker 2: So I heard that, and my initial response was, because
- 29:33Speaker 2: I like Pat McAfee, I'm thinking, what idiotic thing did
- 29:38Speaker 2: Utah put out on their own? own social media accounts
- 29:42Speaker 2: that triggered Pat McAfee to this level and then I
- 29:45Speaker 2: saw the video that Utah.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Put out give me your best Pat McAfee impression I'd
- 29:51Speaker 1: say like Pat McAfee he's gonna say a corny line
- 29:53Speaker 1: he's gonna be.
- 29:53Speaker 3: Like Houston, we got a problem. Give me the Utah Utes.
- 30:04Speaker 4: I would actually spend my money on the odds of
- 30:07Speaker 4: Pat ripping his shirt off this morning.
- 30:09Speaker 2: I'm not ripping off my shirt.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Bro, Pat.
- 30:11Speaker 2: Bro, Pat, Pat, Pat. Pat, we love you, bro. But like, bro,
- 30:14Speaker 2: keep the shirt on. No one's trying to see that. Like,
- 30:16Speaker 2: we don't care. These are college kids, bro. Like, keep
- 30:19Speaker 2: your shirt on, homie. Go Utes!
- 30:22Speaker 1: Pat McAfee impression. I can't do.
- 30:27Speaker 2: That. That's the video. That's what had Pat McAfee invoking
- 30:33Speaker 2: Charlie Kirk's name throughout that whole thing. I love Pat McAfee.
- 30:40Speaker 2: This is an incredibly soft response to that video. I
- 30:44Speaker 2: didn't see anything out of line. I mean, the one
- 30:47Speaker 2: kid's like, keep your shirt on, dude. We're college kids.
- 30:51Speaker 2: We're not trying to see that.
- 30:53Speaker 1: I haven't heard the word corny in years. He said a.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Corny response like Houston, which is funny. Houston, we have
- 31:00Speaker 2: a problem. The Utes are going to win or whatever.
- 31:05Speaker 2: My mind was blown when I saw that that was
- 31:07Speaker 2: the video he was reacting to. And now we've got
- 31:09Speaker 2: another overreaction because the University of Utah has released this
- 31:14Speaker 2: apology saying the University of Utah is grateful to have
- 31:17Speaker 2: had the chance to welcome Pat McAfee. and the entire
- 31:19Speaker 2: ESPN College Game Day crew to campus. ESPN College Game
- 31:23Speaker 2: Day has visited our campus seven times, and we have
- 31:26Speaker 2: always enjoyed a terrific relationship and positive experiences with the
- 31:29Speaker 2: entire crew. Our goal during this visit was to create
- 31:32Speaker 2: lighthearted engagement regarding Pat being back on campus, but we
- 31:36Speaker 2: missed the mark. University staff are responsible for receiving or
- 31:41Speaker 2: reviewing and posting content on official social media accounts, and
- 31:45Speaker 2: we take full accountability For that decision, yada, yada, yada.
- 31:50Speaker 2: I thought it was pretty lighthearted.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Yeah, we take full accountability. It goes back to being,
- 31:54Speaker 1: we apologize for Pat feeling unsafe, for the perception that
- 31:58Speaker 1: Pat was unsafe or unwelcome off of that video. What?
- 32:04Speaker 1: I'm with you, Chad. Unsafe based on that?
- 32:08Speaker 2: I mean, it's kids at 4 a.m. West Coast time
- 32:12Speaker 2: standing there. They're not yelling obscenities at them. First off,
- 32:19Speaker 2: impersonating someone is the sincerest form of flattery. The kids
- 32:22Speaker 2: knew who he was, and the one guy could do
- 32:24Speaker 2: an impression of him. My mind is blown here because
- 32:29Speaker 2: I do not see Pat McAfee as someone who's incredibly
- 32:33Speaker 2: soft on this. I see Kirk Herbstreit that way, quite honestly,
- 32:37Speaker 2: a lot of times. He does not like any criticism
- 32:40Speaker 2: at all. And when he gets it, he verbalizes how
- 32:43Speaker 2: much he doesn't like to be criticized. And I don't
- 32:46Speaker 2: know what's going on. I think when we build up
- 32:50Speaker 2: College Game Day to the level of– I've pointed this
- 32:53Speaker 2: out before. I think it is a complete joke that
- 32:57Speaker 2: local media members show up to a press conference– of
- 33:00Speaker 2: the ESPN College Game Day personalities. They hold like a
- 33:04Speaker 2: media roundup with local media in towns. And I'm thinking, really?
- 33:08Speaker 2: Why are you doing that if you're local media? But
- 33:12Speaker 2: when you put someone on a pedestal to this level,
- 33:16Speaker 2: I think there are times where they naturally start to
- 33:18Speaker 2: buy into their own BS and start to believe that
- 33:22Speaker 2: they're actually this important. And then they become a little
- 33:25Speaker 2: bit too self-important. Pat McAfee sounds like somebody who's too
- 33:28Speaker 2: self-serious too self-important by responding that way to that video.
- 33:33Speaker 2: And this is not in the moment. This is not
- 33:36Speaker 2: him seeing that being irritated, going on air, and immediately
- 33:39Speaker 2: firing off some diss to the people of Salt Lake
- 33:43Speaker 2: City for that video. He had two days to process this.
- 33:47Speaker 2: And he comes back on his show on Monday, and
- 33:49Speaker 2: he still has that big of a problem with the
- 33:51Speaker 2: University of Utah. This is wild to me.
- 33:54Speaker 1: I mean, what else triggered this? I have no idea
- 33:57Speaker 1: behind the scenes with this. But, I mean, he's getting–
- 34:01Speaker 1: think about the things that have been shouted at him
- 34:03Speaker 1: in WWE. Yeah. But this video, this is crazy, man.
- 34:12Speaker 1: Because there had to be more than that video. Utah
- 34:16Speaker 1: should apologize for putting that video up as their welcome
- 34:19Speaker 1: to Pat McAfee because of the way it was produced.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it wasn't a great video. We're not
- 34:27Speaker 2: going to submit that for any awards for the University
- 34:30Speaker 2: of Utah either. But, I mean, it looked like questions
- 34:32Speaker 2: that our Brecca Stoll would have asked to people on
- 34:35Speaker 2: campus about something. It's fun. It's lighthearted.
- 34:38Speaker 1: No one's being mean. What is it, though, about the
- 34:41Speaker 1: university that did that? Because he said if it had
- 34:44Speaker 1: been anyone else randomly, he wouldn't have cared. Um, but
- 34:49Speaker 1: this invoked, it had him say the, the, you know,
- 34:53Speaker 1: it went inside the state line. Is there anything else
- 34:55Speaker 1: that happened in Utah? That that's, that's weird, dude.
- 34:59Speaker 2: What he's saying is like, it's what he's saying is
- 35:03Speaker 2: I was not expecting anything negative from the university itself.
- 35:07Speaker 2: He's like, if this girl had her own blog and
- 35:10Speaker 2: posted that, I wouldn't care because people take shots at
- 35:12Speaker 2: me all the time on that. But we're sitting here,
- 35:14Speaker 2: we're about to do an infomercial for your university and
- 35:16Speaker 2: For the next three hours. And this is what I'm
- 35:18Speaker 2: seeing right before I go on air. So again, my
- 35:22Speaker 2: response was, boy, this video must be really bad. Right.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Utah did. And I'm like, Pat probably has a point here.
- 35:28Speaker 2: And if I'm Pat McAfee, I would be irritated. Well,
- 35:30Speaker 2: if I'm about to go on air and do three
- 35:32Speaker 2: hours of an infomercial for the school, if they're if
- 35:34Speaker 2: they're crushing me. you know, right before I take the stage,
- 35:38Speaker 2: but it wasn't a crushing at all. No, it was
- 35:41Speaker 2: a lighthearted jab that he took. He said he was
- 35:43Speaker 2: called creepy because the guy said, don't take your shirt off.
- 35:47Speaker 1: He, I mean, he didn't really exaggerate the video because he,
- 35:50Speaker 1: he's mentioned, he goes, they called me corny and like,
- 35:53Speaker 1: And I'm thinking, okay, this must be worse than what
- 35:56Speaker 1: he's actually saying on the, on the air. But he,
- 35:59Speaker 1: you know, he, he, he goes on over the top
- 36:02Speaker 1: to mention how good the football team is. Great football team,
- 36:05Speaker 1: but he's not going to go back. He's going to
- 36:06Speaker 1: have COVID if, uh, if ESPN goes back for college
- 36:08Speaker 1: game day, that's, that's wild. Um, Man, you need palm
- 36:15Speaker 1: leaves put down when you go to these universities now,
- 36:17Speaker 1: I guess. Chad, this is the SEC treatment. This is
- 36:21Speaker 1: what he expects when he goes outside the SEC for
- 36:24Speaker 1: College Game Day.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Also, Brooks on the YouTube chat says, Chad, you should
- 36:28Speaker 2: do this with all the people who have called you
- 36:30Speaker 2: a racist retard recently. which has been many people have
- 36:34Speaker 2: called me both, either or both based on the post.
- 36:38Speaker 2: I mean, look, if that's what they called him and
- 36:42Speaker 2: it was the University of Utah account, he's got a
- 36:44Speaker 2: valid complaint. And I would not be wanting to go
- 36:46Speaker 2: back to Salt Lake City if it was to that extreme. But, Pat,
- 36:50Speaker 2: you're also like you play the clown. You're a funny guy.
- 36:55Speaker 2: Your role is to be WWE trash talker on the
- 37:00Speaker 2: show and be funny. You're a funny guy. You're funny
- 37:03Speaker 2: with Saban. You do a good job of making yourself
- 37:07Speaker 2: part of the joke and making fun of things around you.
- 37:10Speaker 2: So when you do that, you can't be mad when
- 37:13Speaker 2: people are being lighthearted and joking about you ripping your
- 37:16Speaker 2: shirt off or doing funny things, right? This is like,
- 37:21Speaker 2: I work for... worked for George Plaster back in the day, right?
- 37:25Speaker 2: And George Plaster would call himself the director. Okay. That
- 37:28Speaker 2: was like, that was the lighthearted nickname for Joe. Oh,
- 37:31Speaker 2: the old director.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Hello again, everybody.
- 37:32Speaker 2: And then I remember George would always get mad when
- 37:35Speaker 2: someone would write me an email complaining that George got
- 37:38Speaker 2: rid of somebody at the station or George did this
- 37:41Speaker 2: or that. And George would always say, well, what do
- 37:43Speaker 2: these people want from me? I don't make those calls.
- 37:45Speaker 2: And I said, George, you call yourself the director of
- 37:48Speaker 2: the station. So the people are going to be confused
- 37:51Speaker 2: when they see something they don't like and they find
- 37:53Speaker 2: out that you don't have say over it, right? And
- 37:56Speaker 2: that was a very lighthearted thing. But also, you're the
- 38:00Speaker 2: clown of the show. So be the clown. Be the
- 38:04Speaker 2: court jester. I'm not saying be happy if a school
- 38:07Speaker 2: starts to bash you on there. But, I mean, this
- 38:11Speaker 2: is the one that you're going to invoke the name
- 38:12Speaker 2: of Charlie Kirk on?
- 38:13Speaker 1: Well, then he goes on. He compares that video to
- 38:17Speaker 1: the New York Times. He mentioned the New York Times
- 38:20Speaker 1: coverage of him and what they're going to write about. Man,
- 38:25Speaker 1: that's sensitive. Sensitive or insensitive, Chad?
- 38:29Speaker 2: Both.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Both.
- 38:31Speaker 2: Apparently insensitive of Utah to post the video and very
- 38:33Speaker 2: sensitive of Pat McAfee to respond this way. And I
- 38:37Speaker 2: like Pat McAfee. And I'm going to keep liking Pat McAfee.
- 38:40Speaker 2: And I like him on the show, but... This was
- 38:43Speaker 2: just a complete out of left field.
- 38:45Speaker 1: There's something else here.
- 38:47Speaker 2: I have no idea. Well, the something else is I
- 38:49Speaker 2: can go show you my messages right now and send
- 38:52Speaker 2: them to JT. The something else is stuff that people
- 38:55Speaker 2: send you online. I get stuff like this all the time.
- 38:59Speaker 2: I can't imagine what Pat McAfee receives in terms of threats. Well,
- 39:04Speaker 2: bad things said about his family or all these other things, right?
- 39:07Speaker 2: I understand that part of it, but I think he's
- 39:10Speaker 2: letting that infect what he's responding to with this.
- 39:14Speaker 1: But he chooses this video, which it's like expecting the
- 39:18Speaker 1: hangover and getting home alone in terms of the content.
- 39:24Speaker 1: This video where they're using the word corny. One of
- 39:28Speaker 1: the students on campus is using the word corny to
- 39:32Speaker 1: describe him.
- 39:33Speaker 2: But he didn't even call McAfee corny. He just said
- 39:35Speaker 2: he'll probably say something corny like, Houston, we have a problem.
- 39:38Speaker 2: Houston's going to win. When he makes his pick, he's
- 39:41Speaker 2: not like Pat McAfee's corner. And the guy also didn't say, boy,
- 39:44Speaker 2: you're a creepy old man. He said, hey, man, just
- 39:48Speaker 2: don't take your shirt off. I know you probably want to,
- 39:50Speaker 2: but just don't do it.
- 39:51Speaker 1: But in his tirade that he went on, it's not
- 39:57Speaker 1: even about what people were saying. It's about the university
- 40:01Speaker 1: putting it out there. Why? If you're not worried about
- 40:05Speaker 1: the content, then what difference does it make? And a
- 40:08Speaker 1: three-paragraph apology from Utah? Wow. Over that.
- 40:14Speaker 2: Also, here's the thing.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Sorry we made you all alone.
- 40:17Speaker 2: You said they've been there seven times in their history
- 40:20Speaker 2: in that statement. You know, we've welcomed College Game Day
- 40:22Speaker 2: seven times.
- 40:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:24Speaker 2: It's going to be a long time before there's going
- 40:25Speaker 2: to be an eighth. I'm going to go ahead and
- 40:27Speaker 2: make that prediction. They're not going to go if Pat
- 40:30Speaker 2: McAfee says I'm not going. And I didn't hear a
- 40:33Speaker 2: guy there that he said, I'm not in a hurry
- 40:35Speaker 2: to go back. to Salt Lake City. I'm not saying
- 40:37Speaker 2: that Utah is going to put themselves in a position
- 40:39Speaker 2: to go back time and time again every year in
- 40:42Speaker 2: college football, but if that's one of the options, they're
- 40:46Speaker 2: not going back if Pat McAfee's on that show. Mark
- 40:48Speaker 2: my word.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Over at the university, put this video out.
- 40:53Speaker 2: They'll pick another place to go before they do that.
- 40:56Speaker 2: I'm having a hard time coming to grips with the
- 40:59Speaker 2: psychology behind that. I guess you're just so Your ego
- 41:04Speaker 2: gets so overinflated that when someone's not.
- 41:06Speaker 1: The university put me in.
- 41:07Speaker 2: Think of all the people that go to Pat McAfee
- 41:09Speaker 2: and want to take a picture with him and love
- 41:10Speaker 2: him and how many positive interactions he has in public
- 41:13Speaker 2: with people also. I guess when you get fed that
- 41:16Speaker 2: all the time, you see something remotely, not even negative,
- 41:20Speaker 2: but just sort of lighthearted about you that's making fun
- 41:24Speaker 2: of you, and then all of a sudden you're going
- 41:25Speaker 2: to snap to that level.
- 41:26Speaker 1: It's very odd. I don't notice other universities even putting
- 41:30Speaker 1: out videos. What is expected here? The university putting out
- 41:35Speaker 1: a video, like Mike Keith voicing over Welcome Back Football
- 41:39Speaker 1: to the Smoky Mountains? With Dolly playing over the top
- 41:44Speaker 1: of it, it's a welcome to Pat McAfee College Game Day.
- 41:46Speaker 1: What is expected of this? It's from the university. It's
- 41:52Speaker 1: a love letter from the university to McAfee and College
- 41:55Speaker 1: Game Day. I don't know what others do that Utah didn't.
- 42:03Speaker 4: Do.
- 42:04Speaker 2: I will say, the one thing that he dropped in there,
- 42:07Speaker 2: and I saw it, about the woman who was trying
- 42:09Speaker 2: to kick the field goal, Yeah. And they were saying
- 42:12Speaker 2: only a million dollars.
- 42:13Speaker 1: Oh, you're right.
- 42:14Speaker 2: And he's like GTFO on the only a million dollars
- 42:17Speaker 2: that he's putting up for it. I am wholeheartedly with
- 42:20Speaker 2: him on that one. If you want to hate the
- 42:23Speaker 2: children of America, you need to watch some of these
- 42:26Speaker 2: punks that do the kick contest and their reaction to
- 42:29Speaker 2: things and how entitled they sound before they do it,
- 42:33Speaker 2: how cocky they are on camera. And this woman, I
- 42:36Speaker 2: said right away, I was at my parents' house. Daughter
- 42:39Speaker 2: had a practice close by, and I'm watching the kick
- 42:41Speaker 2: contest with them. And I took one look at the
- 42:43Speaker 2: woman that was.
- 42:43Speaker 1: About to kick.
- 42:44Speaker 2: I said, she has no chance. She's in a huge, like,
- 42:47Speaker 2: winter overcoat to start. I'm like, she needs to shed
- 42:50Speaker 2: that winter overcoat and get lighter. She's got too much
- 42:53Speaker 2: gear on to try to kick this thing. And she
- 42:55Speaker 2: went up there. I mean, she hit it two feet
- 42:57Speaker 2: on the ground. I mean, she couldn't even get it
- 42:58Speaker 2: off the ground as she tried to kick it. So
- 43:01Speaker 2: McAfee moved her up to, like, a 10-yard field goal.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Didn't come close to that either. And then she was saying,
- 43:07Speaker 2: only $ 1 million? Not $ 3 million like last week at BYU?
- 43:11Speaker 2: And he's like, yeah, the billionaire owner of the Jazz
- 43:13Speaker 2: isn't here offering a million, and his billionaire friend isn't
- 43:16Speaker 2: there to offer another million for that one. And he
- 43:18Speaker 2: kind of, it was funny because he said, hey, you
- 43:21Speaker 2: know what? You know what? Let's, like he was going
- 43:23Speaker 2: to let her have another try and said, nope, back
- 43:26Speaker 2: to you, Reese.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Not at all.
- 43:27Speaker 2: Not going to get it.
- 43:28Speaker 1: It's like the kid that was kicking inside the arena
- 43:32Speaker 1: because of the weather for Alabama and Georgia. Yeah. He
- 43:36Speaker 1: was actually a high school kicker or something. He had
- 43:40Speaker 1: a cocky attitude about it, too. Yes, and missed both
- 43:43Speaker 1: of them. And McAfee acted like there was going to
- 43:45Speaker 1: be a third and said, we're done.
- 43:46Speaker 2: I think those kids are going to look back years
- 43:48Speaker 2: from now and see themselves on there and be like, man,
- 43:51Speaker 2: I was a punk. I was a punk. Sorry to
- 43:53Speaker 2: trigger people with the word punk, by the way. Not
- 43:55Speaker 2: calling Cam Ward a punk. Sorry, everybody. Not racist again.
- 44:00Speaker 2: Look at that. I called a white woman a punk also,
- 44:03Speaker 2: and I called that white kid in Alabama a punk.
- 44:05Speaker 2: See how that word can be used for multiple races?
- 44:08Speaker 1: Amazing.
- 44:09Speaker 2: Amazing how the English language works.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Utah's about to do a video on this, Chad, and
- 44:12Speaker 1: put it out and issue an apology.
- 44:15Speaker 2: No one show McAfee this. He'll never be a guest
- 44:18Speaker 2: on our show if he sees our discussion of this
- 44:19Speaker 2: right now. I like Pat. He's been on our shows
- 44:23Speaker 2: in the past. He seems like a genuinely happy-go-lucky good dude.
- 44:27Speaker 2: He's very funny, very talented. Very, very good at what
- 44:29Speaker 2: he does. I just talked about how he did play-by-play
- 44:32Speaker 2: in that one game from the end zone and was
- 44:34Speaker 2: great doing that on Monday Night Football in the alt cast.
- 44:37Speaker 2: This is an incredibly soft response to a nothing video
- 44:41Speaker 2: from Utah.
- 44:42Speaker 1: Yes, way, way over the top reaction to, again, they
- 44:48Speaker 1: use the word corny. This is a rated G movie.
- 44:52Speaker 1: When talking about reaction, it's about the university. What do
- 44:57Speaker 1: these other universities do, Chad? You mentioned they interview them,
- 45:00Speaker 1: but that's the local media. What do these universities give
- 45:05Speaker 1: him that Utah didn't? I don't know.
- 45:09Speaker 2: Utah's not a state that I think, you said it's
- 45:11Speaker 2: a rated G word, which it is. Utah's a pretty
- 45:14Speaker 2: rated G state for the most part. Even the alcohol
- 45:18Speaker 2: there is watered down to an extent. Of all the
- 45:21Speaker 2: places that To feel threatened because of that video, this
- 45:27Speaker 2: is an odd one to say.
- 45:28Speaker 1: Bizarre.
- 45:29Speaker 2: To invoke the name of Charlie Kirk, which, yes, that
- 45:32Speaker 2: terrible incident happened not far from that campus. But it
- 45:39Speaker 2: was a bridge too far for me, Hut. It was
- 45:41Speaker 2: way too over the top.
- 45:42Speaker 1: Yes. They'll be back on campus, though, for college game day,
- 45:46Speaker 1: maybe with a 9-3 SEC team.
- 45:49Speaker 2: Where is game day going this weekend? I don't know.
- 45:52Speaker 1: Oh, are they going to be at the cocktail party
- 45:55Speaker 1: in Atlanta?
- 45:55Speaker 2: In Atlanta?
- 45:56Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe. Yeah, Chad's going to find this out.
- 46:04Speaker 2: Indiana, Minnesota. Okay.
- 46:08Speaker 1: Interesting. They don't want to set up in Atlanta. I
- 46:12Speaker 1: understand that, too. That's not on a campus. Yeah, the
- 46:16Speaker 1: opportunity to check out Minnesota. After their big upset.
- 46:20Speaker 2: This is an incredibly bad weekend of college football in
- 46:25Speaker 2: terms of what we've had recently. Yeah.
- 46:27Speaker 1: With good weekend.
- 46:28Speaker 2: This weekend turned out to be great. And I said
- 46:30Speaker 2: it was a pretty light one when I was looking
- 46:32Speaker 2: through the top 10. But those top five games I
- 46:35Speaker 2: laid out were all really interesting, really good. This one's
- 46:38Speaker 2: going to be a tough week to find 10 games
- 46:41Speaker 2: on Friday to list the top 10. This is a
- 46:43Speaker 2: bad week. There's really only one good game, I think,
- 46:46Speaker 2: and that's the cocktail party.
- 46:49Speaker 1: I wonder where Big Noon's going then, if they're at Indiana, Minnesota.
- 46:53Speaker 1: We'll find out. SEC chaos, though.
- 46:55Speaker 2: You know where they should go, Hutton?
- 46:57Speaker 1: Utah.
- 46:58Speaker 2: Utah.
- 46:59Speaker 1: Yes, yes.
- 46:59Speaker 2: You know who's not afraid of the Utes?
- 47:03Speaker 1: Us.
- 47:03Speaker 2: Fox.
- 47:03Speaker 1: Big Noon kickoff.
- 47:05Speaker 2: We'll be there live. Matt Leinert will stare down the
- 47:08Speaker 2: student section, and he's not afraid. I would totally troll
- 47:11Speaker 2: ESPN and college game day and go to Utah if
- 47:14Speaker 2: I were them.
- 47:14Speaker 1: Call us worse. Give us nicknames. SEC chaos, though. Maybe
- 47:18Speaker 1: this week, just based on the schedule, not looking great.
- 47:20Speaker 1: Then it turns out to be an amazing card of games.
- 47:24Speaker 1: We'll discuss that and the 9-3 schedule that a lot
- 47:29Speaker 1: of these teams are headed for straight ahead.
