- 0:00Speaker 1: It's the Mark Simon Show live from the w R
- 0:04Speaker 1: Life Back Studios. Well, we'd like to bring you all
- 0:09Speaker 1: the smartest people on earth and with us right now,
- 0:11Speaker 1: the great Steve Forbes, chairman of Forbes Media, which you
- 0:16Speaker 1: should be reading every day. Also a best selling author.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Get his latest book, Inflation. You'll learn a lot from
- 0:22Speaker 1: it and follow Steve Forbes on Twitter and all that stuff.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Steve Forbes, how you doing well?
- 0:29Speaker 2: I'm doing better than Michigan right now. And you're feeling
- 0:34Speaker 2: good about the Yankees. Their new player Lombard hit a
- 0:38Speaker 2: game winning home run, so that was nice to see.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Look into the future. So yeah, yeah, now the Yankees.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I'm in a good mood.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Well, shouldn't Republicans be happy that the crazy kami socialist
- 0:53Speaker 1: whatever the hell he is elsa I'd won as the Democrat.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Isn't that the best chance for Republicans to keep to
- 0:58Speaker 1: win that Senate seat.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I think we've got a good chance to win it,
- 1:03Speaker 2: but we should not take it for granted. If voters
- 1:07Speaker 2: are in a foul mood for whatever reason, people they
- 1:10Speaker 2: may just vote for this clown because of as a protest.
- 1:14Speaker 2: The good thing, though, is if we can take any
- 1:17Speaker 2: comfort from that is how close that election was. He
- 1:20Speaker 2: was one point, had fifteen to twenty points. And then
- 1:24Speaker 2: as people learn more about what he actually stood for,
- 1:27Speaker 2: and as he kept opening his mouth, it tightened up.
- 1:31Speaker 2: But and then the Congressional District seventh Congression, Michigan, Michigan,
- 1:37Speaker 2: we're a lunatic one. The two moderates got fifty seven percent,
- 1:41Speaker 2: they split the vote, and the Communists got forty two.
- 1:46Speaker 2: But the Republicans have to realize they have a fire
- 1:48Speaker 2: out there, and you don't fight fire with a water pistol.
- 1:52Speaker 2: And we've got to get our messaging together. We've got
- 1:54Speaker 2: to come up with exciting tax cuts and go on
- 1:57Speaker 2: offense both against their lunacy and positive things for the future.
- 2:02Speaker 2: That's what people want to know. What's going to happen next.
- 2:05Speaker 2: People are in an anxious, worried mood right now. And
- 2:10Speaker 2: I'll be blunt. I think the president, you know, he
- 2:12Speaker 2: went after the oil companies on oil prices, which is ridiculous.
- 2:16Speaker 2: He stepped on a great story about how well the
- 2:19Speaker 2: numbers are coming in on American manufacturing. Who knew that.
- 2:23Speaker 2: All they focused on was the President goes after oil company,
- 2:26Speaker 2: So stop stepping on your great news.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, well his point was there's no reason to
- 2:33Speaker 1: raise the price of gas here in this country because
- 2:36Speaker 1: we produce all our own oil straight or home moose
- 2:38Speaker 1: doesn't affect us. But I guess it's not a good
- 2:42Speaker 1: idea to ever put in price controls anywhere on any industry.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Is it. No, And it's an international market, but that
- 2:49Speaker 2: gets in the weeds on it. But focus on the
- 2:52Speaker 2: great news man, manufacturing has really made a turn. Well,
- 2:57Speaker 2: if you don't get the message out there and say
- 3:00Speaker 2: it with confidence, people are just gonna shrug. Even if
- 3:04Speaker 2: their own situations beginning to get better, They're worried about
- 3:07Speaker 2: the future. So come up with some exciting stuff for
- 3:10Speaker 2: the future.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Yeah, Hey, Steve Forbes. Getting back to ELSAYD, there was
- 3:15Speaker 1: a time in this country where if somebody said you
- 3:17Speaker 1: were a communist, you were blacklisted, you couldn't work in
- 3:20Speaker 1: Hollywood ever again. And now if you're a communist to
- 3:23Speaker 1: hold a fundraiser for you at their house? What what changed?
- 3:27Speaker 1: How did this happen?
- 3:29Speaker 2: Well, you talk about Hollywood. You know they have these
- 3:32Speaker 2: monster movies in Hollywood and the monster always seems to
- 3:35Speaker 2: come back from the swamp. Well, we have to and
- 3:38Speaker 2: we have to learn. Unfortunately, bad ideas never die. They're
- 3:42Speaker 2: lurking in the swamp. And what you have here is
- 3:45Speaker 2: a combination of people don't remember the past, and people
- 3:49Speaker 2: aren't taught about the past, so they have no context
- 3:53Speaker 2: for this socialist nonsense. It sounds, oh, we're going to
- 3:56Speaker 2: get free stuff, exciting young people. Anti establishment young people
- 4:00Speaker 2: always like that, and so there's no counter memory and
- 4:04Speaker 2: no counter education that they received about what actually happened
- 4:08Speaker 2: in the past. And this co chair whatever they call
- 4:12Speaker 2: themselves of the DSA so called democratic whenever Far Left
- 4:18Speaker 2: Groove called itself democratic, it means dictatorship, the dictator Socialists
- 4:23Speaker 2: of America. She said, capitalism is failing. Well, how do
- 4:27Speaker 2: you account for the fact that, for all problems, we
- 4:30Speaker 2: still have the highest standard of living in the world,
- 4:33Speaker 2: and the incomes are starting to move up. And when
- 4:36Speaker 2: Trump had his first term before COVID, guess what was happening.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Lower incomes are growing better than higher incomes percentage wise.
- 4:46Speaker 2: So I wish the Republicans would get on get an offense.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Also on healthcare, I mean, I don't care what the
- 4:52Speaker 2: government says. Health premiums are going up and people are
- 4:56Speaker 2: paying more out of pocket and so advocate removing the
- 5:01Speaker 2: barriers and health savings accounts. Put the money in your
- 5:04Speaker 2: the patient's pocket, not the third party. They should be
- 5:09Speaker 2: going on offense and stop apologizing or going silent.
- 5:13Speaker 1: It's not going to work.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Well.
- 5:15Speaker 1: It's tough to do that because for the average American
- 5:16Speaker 1: who's working all day, doesn't sit there and watch cable
- 5:19Speaker 1: news and doesn't read everything, and they basically just get
- 5:22Speaker 1: home and put on the nightly news and the network
- 5:24Speaker 1: for twenty minutes. They're getting the impression from these fake
- 5:27Speaker 1: news people that this economy is in crisis right now
- 5:30Speaker 1: and that's not the case, is it.
- 5:33Speaker 2: No, it isn't. And people get their news also now,
- 5:37Speaker 2: especially younger people, they don't even watch the nightly news anymore.
- 5:41Speaker 2: They go on with Apple or whatever. But we have
- 5:45Speaker 2: to take comfort Ronald Reagan when you had only three
- 5:48Speaker 2: networks which didn't like them, and the major newspapers at
- 5:51Speaker 2: the time, like the New York Times. That hasn't changed.
- 5:54Speaker 2: There are no fans. They're always looking for gloom and
- 5:56Speaker 2: doom in the economy. But he got the message across.
- 6:00Speaker 2: And that's one thing President Trump has not done well.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Has learned to sit behind a desk in the Oval
- 6:05Speaker 2: Office and explain things. When he gave that speech several
- 6:09Speaker 2: months ago in the Iran War, even though I didn't
- 6:13Speaker 2: think was particularly well delivered, those who watched it cut
- 6:16Speaker 2: him slack. He majority agreed we cannot allow Iran to
- 6:20Speaker 2: get nuclear weapons. So if you lay your case before
- 6:23Speaker 2: the American people, even if something as tough as Iran,
- 6:27Speaker 2: people will cut the present slack. And so you got
- 6:30Speaker 2: to trust them take your case to them.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Yeah. So a lot of obviously Democrats hate the presidents
- 6:35Speaker 1: of dealing with Iran, and a lot of Republicans don't.
- 6:38Speaker 1: That's an understatement. Yeah, a lot of Republicans think this
- 6:42Speaker 1: is terrible. You know, either go finish them off or so.
- 6:44Speaker 1: But this on again, off again there is some logic
- 6:49Speaker 1: to it, isn't there. It keeps them busy, It keeps
- 6:51Speaker 1: Iran busy with this rather than with esbulon who eats
- 6:54Speaker 1: and all that.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Well, what it's done is they've are still now supplying,
- 7:01Speaker 2: especially the hoodies who are trying to take control of
- 7:05Speaker 2: the North I mean the Red Sea, the way the
- 7:07Speaker 2: Iranians are doing with this Strait of Hormuz. So the
- 7:11Speaker 2: on again off again. Unfortunately gives the impression that we
- 7:14Speaker 2: don't have a strategy, that we're desperate about the midterm elections,
- 7:19Speaker 2: and there was the lack of consistency. You know, you
- 7:22Speaker 2: saw the joke online that the president's going to get
- 7:25Speaker 2: the Nobelt presprised because he's under the Iran war eight times,
- 7:29Speaker 2: and and and and so that kind of thing. It
- 7:34Speaker 2: hurts the message, the other messages he has because you
- 7:38Speaker 2: see this on again, off again. The war is over. No,
- 7:40Speaker 2: it's not over. We're gonna bum the smithereens know we're not.
- 7:44Speaker 2: We're gonna have negotiations. Well maybe maybe not. Iran has
- 7:47Speaker 2: violated every negotiation agreement they've made since April since the
- 7:51Speaker 2: presidents are clared to cease fire. So uh, people, I
- 7:56Speaker 2: think people want a firm hand and the feeling that
- 8:00Speaker 2: there is indeed a strategy here and lay it out
- 8:02Speaker 2: to the people.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Yeah, hey, before we run out of time, Steve Forbes,
- 8:06Speaker 1: you're very good on this subject AI. Now a lot
- 8:08Speaker 1: of people are living in fear of AI. It's going
- 8:11Speaker 1: to ruin everything. Everybody's going to lose their job, The
- 8:14Speaker 1: data centers are going to destroy our town or everything.
- 8:17Speaker 1: What should be really what you would be feeling about
- 8:20Speaker 1: AI right now.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Well, AI is unfortunately one of those things, as I
- 8:25Speaker 2: think we've mentioned before, as a friend of mine mentioned
- 8:28Speaker 2: to me Mark Mills is first of all, AI is
- 8:30Speaker 2: a terrible name. We don't call We don't call planes
- 8:34Speaker 2: artificial birds, or cars artificial horses, and so AI sounds ominous.
- 8:41Speaker 2: And yes, it's going to mean change. But the amazing
- 8:44Speaker 2: thing is employment has actually gone up in the last
- 8:49Speaker 2: couple of years since the President Trump retook office. And
- 8:54Speaker 2: also the big thing which we should be emphasizing, it's
- 8:57Speaker 2: what is doing in healthcare. It's holding out the promise
- 9:00Speaker 2: in healthcare already of getting cures faster. One example, a
- 9:05Speaker 2: baby had a rare genetic bound malfunction of the sort
- 9:11Speaker 2: what they call one letter, and they prepared the parents
- 9:15Speaker 2: you know it's going to have a tragic end, and
- 9:18Speaker 2: they are able thanks to AI and the information that
- 9:20Speaker 2: got from AI to find that one rogue genetic letter,
- 9:25Speaker 2: and that baby now is about one and a half
- 9:27Speaker 2: years old and surviving. So we should emphasize US has
- 9:31Speaker 2: great promise. Any big new thing can be misused. That
- 9:34Speaker 2: also has the promise to substantially improve our healthcare and
- 9:38Speaker 2: ultimately get drugs faster. You know, I'm my age. I
- 9:42Speaker 2: don't want to wait ten years for a drug. I'd
- 9:44Speaker 2: like it next week, Thank you very much. And AI
- 9:47Speaker 2: is going to sharply reduce the costs of getting these
- 9:51Speaker 2: new drugs and the effectiveness of them because they can
- 9:54Speaker 2: find out what works for you may not work for me.
- 9:57Speaker 2: But we're going to have an Indi Vigel medicine in
- 10:00Speaker 2: the next ten years like we couldn't imagine today.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Yeah, you pointed out once. I never forgot this that
- 10:07Speaker 1: people had the same fear of electricity when it was
- 10:10Speaker 1: evented when it came along.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Yes, and that's how we got the novel Frankenstein. Oh,
- 10:15Speaker 2: they're going to create these monsters with electricity. Well, well
- 10:20Speaker 2: it's great entertainment.
- 10:24Speaker 1: That's a good point. Well, Steve Forbes, great stuff. Everybody,
- 10:27Speaker 1: get his book Inflation. It's a very good book. It's
- 10:29Speaker 1: his latest book and you should read that. And of
- 10:31Speaker 1: course Forbes Media, you do a wonderful job every day.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Just go online Forbes dot com and follow Steve Forbes
- 10:38Speaker 1: on Twitter. And thanks for being with us.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Thank you, Mark. Keep up the good work. We're going
- 10:44Speaker 2: to need it, all.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Right, take take care Hey, don't forget Buck and Clay
- 10:48Speaker 1: coming up at noon today with a great show for you.
- 10:51Speaker 1: And then three o'clock we got Sean Hannity. They'll most
- 10:54Speaker 1: listen to radio show in America. You got Jesse Kelly
- 10:58Speaker 1: at six and Jimmy Fayley. Besides being a very smart show,
- 11:02Speaker 1: making a lot of great points and interesting content, it
- 11:05Speaker 1: is the funniest show on radio. Jimmy Fayla every night
- 11:09Speaker 1: nine to midnight here on seventy ten Woor
