- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome back to another episode of Star Wars Alliance.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Of course, I'm your host, Clay and with me like
- 0:28Speaker 2: always is Katie, Katie, how you doing today?
- 0:33Speaker 3: Hello? I have chocolate, so I am happy.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Well. I am so glad that I did that correctly,
- 0:40Speaker 2: because literally five hours ago, I recorded Ranger Alliance and
- 0:46Speaker 2: I said, welcome back to another episode of Star Like.
- 0:50Speaker 2: What did I say? I said? I said? I hesitated,
- 0:55Speaker 2: I was like, man, I almost said Ranger Alliance, welcome
- 0:59Speaker 2: to Star Wars a line and then he's like, wait what?
- 1:01Speaker 2: I was like, wait what? Oh no, hold on, rewind,
- 1:04Speaker 2: let's fix it. Welcome to Radio Alliance. So I'm glad
- 1:10Speaker 2: I actually got that down here on this episode. Guys,
- 1:15Speaker 2: we excuse me, I'm gonna edit that one out. Guys,
- 1:21Speaker 2: we are recording this early. You were not seeing us
- 1:25Speaker 2: live because of some scheduling conflicts with Wednesday. We are
- 1:33Speaker 2: going to place this on the podcast feeds on Thursday,
- 1:40Speaker 2: and then Katie and I will also be needing to
- 1:44Speaker 2: get together for some other future off live recordings that
- 1:50Speaker 2: we have planned for the remaining week. Guys, I don't
- 1:58Speaker 2: know how or why we did this, but we were like, hey,
- 2:00Speaker 2: do you want to read four books in five weeks?
- 2:05Speaker 3: Five books in four.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Five books in four weeks, And I was like, I
- 2:09Speaker 2: can do that.
- 2:10Speaker 4: I finished one, so I'm immediately starting the next one
- 2:18Speaker 4: kind of right after this, which is pretty scary because
- 2:23Speaker 4: I need to go to bed in about two and
- 2:25Speaker 4: a half hours.
- 2:26Speaker 3: But it's okay because now we're not recording the next
- 2:30Speaker 3: one until next Sunday, but then we have the next
- 2:32Speaker 3: one three days later.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Exactly exactly. And what I have done is I have
- 2:39Speaker 2: made every contingency plan. I've ordered what I can with
- 2:44Speaker 2: physical copies. I've ordered what I could in digital copies
- 2:50Speaker 2: as well as I have pulled these books out on Libby,
- 2:57Speaker 2: so literally, in any situation that I'm in, if there's
- 3:00Speaker 2: any downtime, I can pull it up and read it.
- 3:04Speaker 2: So yep, I'm just gonna have my nose in a
- 3:08Speaker 2: book for literally the next five weeks, which is absolutely insane.
- 3:13Speaker 2: I didn't know I was gonna go this hard at
- 3:15Speaker 2: the very beginning of the year, but you.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Said it was okay on the schedule.
- 3:20Speaker 2: No, and it is. It's totally okay. It's totally okay.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Like but the one thing for me is I am
- 3:30Speaker 2: now like officially adulting. And when I say officially adulting,
- 3:37Speaker 2: my entire life I've been like bedtime. What is that
- 3:42Speaker 2: that doesn't exist? I go to sleep when my eyes close.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Now that I have a job that requires me to
- 3:50Speaker 2: be at said job at five o'clock, I have to
- 3:55Speaker 2: wake up at like three or three thirty yep. In
- 3:59Speaker 2: order for me to wake up in time, take a shower,
- 4:02Speaker 2: get dressed, and actually be at my job at five
- 4:05Speaker 2: o'clock in the morning. Because of that, I have to
- 4:09Speaker 2: be in bed by nine thirty or nine forty five.
- 4:14Speaker 2: And then I'm like okay. So even on Sundays, because
- 4:18Speaker 2: I work six days a week, and I'm like okay,
- 4:20Speaker 2: on Sundays, I get to kind of splurge and I
- 4:22Speaker 2: get to stay up until like eleven. That's gonna be
- 4:25Speaker 2: so fun. I'm gonna watch my shows. I'm gonna play
- 4:27Speaker 2: some games. Guys. Last night I told Abby, Hey, I'm
- 4:33Speaker 2: gonna put Amberlin to bed. But before I do, why
- 4:38Speaker 2: she's gonna wind down with watching a show or playing
- 4:40Speaker 2: her with her toys. I'm just gonna lay down. That
- 4:47Speaker 2: was a bad idea out I like, I even had
- 4:51Speaker 2: like like my phone like a video going, so that
- 4:54Speaker 2: way I could at least like try to stay awake.
- 4:56Speaker 2: And I kept on just drifting and drifting and drifting,
- 5:00Speaker 2: and then Abby was just like, I will put her
- 5:02Speaker 2: to bed. I was like, oh, oh wait, I'm okay, yeah, yeah, okay, yeah,
- 5:09Speaker 2: you go ahead and put her to bed. Good night.
- 5:12Speaker 2: And I was out like, yeah, I'm officially adulting. So
- 5:18Speaker 2: because of that, my reading schedule is strictly if I
- 5:25Speaker 2: happen to get to work fifteen minutes early, I splurge
- 5:31Speaker 2: at that moment. Then I get home, I take anywhere
- 5:35Speaker 2: from a thirty minute to an hour nap. I wake
- 5:39Speaker 2: up when I wake up, Amberlyn is already taking her nap,
- 5:44Speaker 2: So then I say, okay, I only have an hour
- 5:46Speaker 2: and a half to two hours until Amberln wakes up.
- 5:51Speaker 2: That's my time to read, and then literally the thirty
- 5:56Speaker 2: minutes before I actually drift off to sleep. So they have,
- 6:00Speaker 2: in a combined amount of time per day anywhere between
- 6:07Speaker 2: three to four hours to read. Yeah, and it's it's
- 6:12Speaker 2: it's a little harder than I thought, but.
- 6:15Speaker 3: You're doing great.
- 6:16Speaker 2: I'm doing great, and I'm still enjoying everything in there.
- 6:20Speaker 2: And of course I want to thank uh Random House Worlds,
- 6:25Speaker 2: and of course, uh this is uh yeah, random House Worlds. Sorry.
- 6:33Speaker 2: I was like, is this it's the same.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Thing Star Wars Outlaws?
- 6:38Speaker 2: I want I want to thank Random House Worlds for
- 6:42Speaker 2: giving us not only the physical copy, not only the
- 6:45Speaker 2: digital copy, but also the audio version of this book.
- 6:52Speaker 2: It was superb. I'm just gonna go ahead and throw
- 6:54Speaker 2: that out there before we even talk about news. I'm
- 6:56Speaker 2: just gonna say this book was superb. This book is
- 6:59Speaker 2: actually going to make me play the game. We boycotted
- 7:03Speaker 2: the game because the price. I'm still not gonna pay
- 7:06Speaker 2: seventy dollars for the game. I'm gonna wait until it
- 7:08Speaker 2: goes back and say, oh, but I am more inclined
- 7:11Speaker 2: to play the game because of this book.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Yeah. Honestly, guys, again, before we get into the review,
- 7:19Speaker 3: I'm just gonna say it, this hit my top five.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Oh I was.
- 7:26Speaker 3: That happy with this book.
- 7:29Speaker 2: I'll have you know what we need, Katie, you know
- 7:32Speaker 2: what we need. We haven't done one, Like we officially
- 7:36Speaker 2: have not done one. Yeah, we need a Star Wars
- 7:40Speaker 2: book ranking, Yes we do. I think, Oh, there we go.
- 7:47Speaker 2: I was I was in charge of content for the
- 7:52Speaker 2: end of spring into summer. Boom, I got another one
- 7:56Speaker 2: for us. Yeah, book ranking.
- 7:59Speaker 3: Because we've done we've done the categories one, but we've
- 8:03Speaker 3: never actually gone and said, okay.
- 8:06Speaker 2: This is your title. Yeah, Like and oh man, I'm
- 8:12Speaker 2: gonna have to think about like what is allowed in
- 8:15Speaker 2: the rankings and what isn't allowed. There's so much stuff
- 8:18Speaker 2: in there. Who Okay, I may I may keep it
- 8:24Speaker 2: strictly to the five years that have been on the podcast,
- 8:29Speaker 2: like what we have, what we have reviewed.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Well, the good thing is you have a list of
- 8:34Speaker 3: what we've reviewed and it's mostly up to date.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, so I think, yeah, I think that's what
- 8:42Speaker 2: we're gonna do. So guys, there you go. Exclusive We're
- 8:45Speaker 2: going to do a uh Star Wars book ranking sometime
- 8:50Speaker 2: in the lake spring early summer.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Cool all right, all right, but now from the fun
- 8:58Speaker 3: stuff to the not so fun things.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Kathleen Kennedy, it's officially gone from Lucasfilm. Last Friday was
- 9:10Speaker 3: her last day.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Like that. I've seen so many memes from people who
- 9:19Speaker 2: like were at one point they felt like at war
- 9:22Speaker 2: with Kennedy and now saying like, man, what have we done?
- 9:28Speaker 3: What?
- 9:28Speaker 2: Like the decisions that have been made. I don't know
- 9:32Speaker 2: if we like are in the right spot and stuff
- 9:36Speaker 2: like we we've talked about that in Agnausium, you know
- 9:40Speaker 2: last week about filoney, this is about Kennedy. Yes, we
- 9:50Speaker 2: will miss Kennedy. We've had the discussion back when it
- 9:55Speaker 2: was of course the whole thing with Hunt for beIN Solo,
- 9:59Speaker 2: we we learned, Hey, a lot of our targeted aggression
- 10:07Speaker 2: was targeted at the wrong person. And Kennedy, with the
- 10:16Speaker 2: position that she was in, she made probably some of
- 10:22Speaker 2: the best decisions of her career and probably some of
- 10:27Speaker 2: the biggest mistakes of her career. But she is a
- 10:31Speaker 2: top dog when it comes to her profession.
- 10:34Speaker 3: And that's what you can't ever deny that as effect
- 10:40Speaker 3: is that there are some Indiana Jones movies that we
- 10:44Speaker 3: would not have without Kathleen Kennedy. There's some Star Wars films,
- 10:49Speaker 3: there's Jurassic Park stuff that we would have never had
- 10:53Speaker 3: if Kennedy hadn't worked on it. And does she have
- 10:57Speaker 3: some regrets, yes, But ultimately her career is such a
- 11:06Speaker 3: joy to have watched, and I know that she wants
- 11:10Speaker 3: to continue producing movies and she wants to get more
- 11:14Speaker 3: into the in d scene is what she was talking about.
- 11:19Speaker 3: So I'm excited to see what she goes back to
- 11:22Speaker 3: because I know maybe the business side of things is
- 11:25Speaker 3: not something she really wanted to tackle, even though she's
- 11:28Speaker 3: been doing a lot of the business stuff with George
- 11:31Speaker 3: Lucas over the years. So I am sad to see
- 11:36Speaker 3: her go. And I think a lot of people will,
- 11:40Speaker 3: like we always say we said it with the aclate
- 11:43Speaker 3: Acolade is going to be appreciated in twenty years for
- 11:47Speaker 3: what it was, and people are gonna be like, why
- 11:48Speaker 3: couldn't you be like the acolte In five years people
- 11:53Speaker 3: are going to be like, why couldn't you be like
- 11:55Speaker 3: Kathleen Kennedy.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I'm.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Calling that like weird at most.
- 12:04Speaker 2: I can see I can see us because here's here's
- 12:09Speaker 2: the thing. This happened with Disney. We got who, we
- 12:15Speaker 2: got Bad Bob way back when, and everybody thought, oh,
- 12:22Speaker 2: he's the businessman, he's gonna make things great. There was
- 12:25Speaker 2: some decisions that people were kind of hesitant on when
- 12:28Speaker 2: it came to the theme parks, and then he was
- 12:33Speaker 2: making some okay decisions when it came to Disney's movies
- 12:37Speaker 2: and stuff like that, But then he started to make
- 12:39Speaker 2: bad decisions and he's like, Okay, you're bad Bob. We
- 12:42Speaker 2: want good Bob back. And of course now good Bob
- 12:44Speaker 2: is kind of mediocre Bob and all this other stuff.
- 12:48Speaker 2: I can see us by twenty thirty with Filoney and
- 12:59Speaker 2: what was her name? Oh wait, hold on, Brennan, Brennan,
- 13:05Speaker 2: with Brennan. I'm sure we will say, guys, why couldn't
- 13:11Speaker 2: you just make decisions like Kathleen Kennedy did? Why can't
- 13:15Speaker 2: you just do it? And to what you were saying
- 13:19Speaker 2: with her indie scene, I actually look forward to that,
- 13:23Speaker 2: and I think more so because she's not going to
- 13:27Speaker 2: be like staring down the barrel of a gun with
- 13:33Speaker 2: the choices that she makes in the indie scene. She's
- 13:37Speaker 2: not gonna have this huge overbearing weight of the legacy
- 13:43Speaker 2: of Star Wars when she makes these indie films, right,
- 13:47Speaker 2: it's just gonna be like, Okay, this is a small project,
- 13:49Speaker 2: let's have fun with it, let's just do it right.
- 13:52Speaker 2: And so I'm I'm excited to see where she goes
- 13:55Speaker 2: from here, whether that be hey, I'm gonna you know,
- 13:59Speaker 2: relax for and then get into stuff, or if she's
- 14:02Speaker 2: wanted to just kind of jump right into it. But yeah,
- 14:12Speaker 2: with this news of her departing from Lucasfilm, she did
- 14:19Speaker 2: give some updates and she did an interview. Yeah, and
- 14:24Speaker 2: there's been a lot of hubbub on what is true
- 14:28Speaker 2: and what is not true and everything else. Names were
- 14:34Speaker 2: thrown out there, a lot of people upset of like, oh, well,
- 14:37Speaker 2: why didn't they accept her offer, and like all this stuff, guys,
- 14:41Speaker 2: business is business, for sure. But the first thing that
- 14:48Speaker 2: we had heard is Mangold's film is currently on hold
- 14:54Speaker 2: but has an incredible script. Glover has turned in a
- 14:59Speaker 2: script for Lando movie. Kim Berg is actively working on
- 15:04Speaker 2: a trilogy of films that Dave and Linnwyn are very
- 15:10Speaker 2: on board for Taiko turning a script for a film
- 15:18Speaker 2: she calls hilarious and great. And then the one that
- 15:25Speaker 2: had all of us eyeball emojis. Kathy Kennedy confirms the
- 15:31Speaker 2: Hunt for Ben solo script is also on the back burner. Yep,
- 15:39Speaker 2: not dead, not canceled, on the back burner, but I think.
- 15:48Speaker 3: That, and let's be real, guys, that is what Hollywood is.
- 15:53Speaker 3: It's always okay. I could see us making the script
- 15:57Speaker 3: at some point, but I'll have the right creator for it. Yeah,
- 16:02Speaker 3: it nothing's ever canceled. It's just okay, we'll wait and
- 16:09Speaker 3: see kind of thing.
- 16:11Speaker 2: I think.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Back Burner is just hey, like it's not happening at
- 16:17Speaker 3: this moment, So.
- 16:21Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 16:21Speaker 3: I find the man goold things super interesting. And you,
- 16:24Speaker 3: me and Travis were talking about it, like if it
- 16:27Speaker 3: dives into like the duology of the force, like the
- 16:32Speaker 3: force duos. I can't think of a diad That's what
- 16:36Speaker 3: it is, a diad in the forest. But it dives
- 16:38Speaker 3: into that, and we've already explored that with Men Mandalorian
- 16:42Speaker 3: a little bit and then the sequel trilogy. How is
- 16:44Speaker 3: that really breaking the mold? But if it dives into
- 16:47Speaker 3: that mythology, I could really see them going, hey, Starfighter
- 16:55Speaker 3: is safe, Mandalorian and Grogu is safe. If we're bringing
- 17:01Speaker 3: in someone brand spanking new to take over things, they
- 17:07Speaker 3: would have a vision like James Gunn did. James Gunn said, nope,
- 17:11Speaker 3: I'm not touching the Snyder stuff. We're gonna toss everything. Yeah,
- 17:16Speaker 3: he doesn't want to deal with that, and I don't
- 17:18Speaker 3: blame him. And felony being felony might have gone No,
- 17:24Speaker 3: that doesn't that that doesn't vibe with my Mando verse.
- 17:29Speaker 3: I'm not gonna touch it.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm like all honestly, And it's something that we
- 17:36Speaker 2: have been frustrated with with the idea of like what
- 17:42Speaker 2: would it truly mean if he is in the you know,
- 17:46Speaker 2: puppeteer creative chair of things, right, So I don't know.
- 17:52Speaker 2: I don't know how I feel about necessarily letting it
- 17:56Speaker 2: be known. Like I almost feel like it would have
- 17:58Speaker 2: just been okay if you didn't say any thing about
- 18:00Speaker 2: the Mangold movie. Yeah, but that also to be said
- 18:06Speaker 2: about that whole thing is I'm pretty sure I shared
- 18:10Speaker 2: it in the chat as well. Somebody randomly tweeted I
- 18:14Speaker 2: just realized the Deadline interview with Kennedy never mentioned the
- 18:18Speaker 2: Rain movie. So that's not a great sign. What do
- 18:22Speaker 2: you no?
- 18:22Speaker 3: But Daisy Ridley just posted on her story that she
- 18:26Speaker 3: was headed back into a durance training and really has
- 18:31Speaker 3: only really done that with Star Wars so far. So
- 18:35Speaker 3: I feel like and we had talked, we kind of
- 18:38Speaker 3: talked about it last week, where okay, did they tool
- 18:42Speaker 3: the Rain movie to where it could tie into the
- 18:45Speaker 3: Hunt for Ben Solo? Because I do think Daisy and
- 18:48Speaker 3: Adam Driver had a really fun time working together. So
- 18:50Speaker 3: I could see them going, hey, we want to tie
- 18:52Speaker 3: these together. So I could see that they wanted that done.
- 18:59Speaker 3: And this is an exit interview. There's no telling. Kennedy
- 19:03Speaker 3: could have said something and full LUCASLM could have been like, actually, no,
- 19:08Speaker 3: I want you to cut that line.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Well yeah, and also like there has also been rumors
- 19:14Speaker 2: that the Ray movie might actually also be a part
- 19:19Speaker 2: of the trilogy of films that is currently being worked on,
- 19:23Speaker 2: Like there is still some reports on like if they're
- 19:27Speaker 2: reworking that Ray movie into an actual trilogy.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Yeah, So there's a lot that could be happening here.
- 19:36Speaker 3: There's a lot that could not be happening here. I
- 19:39Speaker 3: enjoyed what she said. Even though Ryan Johnson has come
- 19:43Speaker 3: back and said no, I'm not scared to come back
- 19:45Speaker 3: and do Star Wars, I love that. I loved that
- 19:48Speaker 3: by the way Kennedy talked about him, because Deadline asked
- 19:52Speaker 3: the question, Hey, you've talked about all these other creators,
- 19:55Speaker 3: what about Ryan Johnson? And she was like, I think
- 19:58Speaker 3: Johnson might have gotten a little bit scared, and I
- 20:01Speaker 3: have to do that with some people. It's like, hey,
- 20:06Speaker 3: do you want to come make a Star Wars movie,
- 20:08Speaker 3: I'd love to have you, and they're like, I've seen
- 20:10Speaker 3: how those crazy fans react, like I don't want to
- 20:13Speaker 3: do this, no, thank you, And somebody in the guachat
- 20:17Speaker 3: put it nicely, that's why you have Kinberg writing and
- 20:21Speaker 3: directing a trilogy.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Yeah. But like there was also a lot of other
- 20:29Speaker 2: parts of that Deadline interview that Kennedy was like, yeah,
- 20:34Speaker 2: I talked to a whole bunch of talent and started
- 20:37Speaker 2: naming all of these directors, all of these writers, one
- 20:42Speaker 2: being even Ryan Coogler. And there was the comment also
- 20:50Speaker 2: with the idea of Ryan Johnson. Somebody did point out
- 20:56Speaker 2: and said, I think a lot of directors got spooked,
- 20:59Speaker 2: which is why, of course you have the one guy
- 21:01Speaker 2: directed that directed the Dark Phoenix movie, like you said,
- 21:07Speaker 2: and I genuinely hope, truly, I hope that Felone sees
- 21:16Speaker 2: the writing on the wall after this whole interview has
- 21:20Speaker 2: been out there and says, hey, let's give these already
- 21:28Speaker 2: amazing directors that basically print money anyway, yep, give them
- 21:35Speaker 2: a huge guarantee and make them make a movie in
- 21:41Speaker 2: the Star Wars universe.
- 21:42Speaker 3: And that's what'd be interesting. That's what'd be interesting to see,
- 21:46Speaker 3: but I'm not confident because of what we've heard about
- 21:51Speaker 3: Debora Chow, what Debora Chow went through with Obi Wan Kenobi,
- 21:54Speaker 3: with Fabro and Filoni stepping in. If you can't even
- 21:58Speaker 3: give her a chance when she's proven herself on Star
- 22:01Speaker 3: Wars properties, Yeah, to make a thing her own? Why
- 22:07Speaker 3: would these uber famous?
- 22:09Speaker 2: By the way, I totally forgot about that.
- 22:13Speaker 3: I'm just saying. I did also like how she talked
- 22:17Speaker 3: about Starfighter in this interview. Deadline asked if there was
- 22:22Speaker 3: a potential that Starfighter could delve into multiple movies. She
- 22:27Speaker 3: said it's completely designed as a standalone, that that is
- 22:33Speaker 3: what uh Levy and her decided to do from the start,
- 22:39Speaker 3: especially with Gossling involved, but that they really like I
- 22:44Speaker 3: think his name, what it was his name, the kid
- 22:48Speaker 3: actor who is coming in UH to Starfighter, Flynn Gray.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Levy and Kennedy really like him and think that he
- 23:01Speaker 3: could have a huge career, and so they talked about
- 23:08Speaker 3: She and Deadline talked about how like, hey, you could
- 23:12Speaker 3: see this character coming back, but it's not designed that way,
- 23:17Speaker 3: Like it really is not. Yeah, she said, we found
- 23:22Speaker 3: this fourteen year old kid out of Ireland who had
- 23:24Speaker 3: virtually no experience. That's always risky hanging a story so
- 23:28Speaker 3: much on a child actor you're not exactly sure how
- 23:31Speaker 3: comfortable they're going to be playing. Gray turned out to
- 23:34Speaker 3: be such a special kid. When you have kids, a
- 23:37Speaker 3: lot of it becomes about the parents. He has great
- 23:39Speaker 3: parents and got lucky there too. Not only was he
- 23:42Speaker 3: there with Brian Gosling, this movie is structured in a
- 23:44Speaker 3: way that he had kind of a new actor coming
- 23:47Speaker 3: in every few weeks that he was one on one
- 23:49Speaker 3: with Matt Smith, Amy Adams, Aaron Pierre, etc. So I'm
- 23:56Speaker 3: excited to see what this kid can do. I do
- 23:59Speaker 3: hope that they touch to this kid.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Yeah, And I genuinely think, like I would hope, not
- 24:09Speaker 2: that I think, I would hope that Kennedy knew, hey,
- 24:15Speaker 2: I'm leaving soon. I really do hope that she gave
- 24:22Speaker 2: a lot of warning and like also like hope to
- 24:31Speaker 2: this kid and their parents and said like, hey, just
- 24:36Speaker 2: because of what's been happening in the past, just be
- 24:40Speaker 2: aware this might happen. You might see these types of
- 24:43Speaker 2: comments or this type of reaction when this movie comes out,
- 24:50Speaker 2: when the first trailer comes out, and all these other things,
- 24:54Speaker 2: and to better help prepare him and his family for
- 25:00Speaker 2: those types of interactions. And yeah, I do think it
- 25:05Speaker 2: is Lucasfilm's responsibility to take care of that.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Kid, and they haven't done it previously. So I think
- 25:15Speaker 3: we're speaking to dead air, but hopefully that will change. Yeah, So,
- 25:21Speaker 3: I honestly I think that's really it. In this, Kennedy
- 25:26Speaker 3: talks in length about her career and what she's looking
- 25:30Speaker 3: forward to next. Oh, the last thing I found her
- 25:35Speaker 3: one regret was taking on a Han Solo biography movie
- 25:41Speaker 3: so soon and hang on I had it. Yeah, she said, No,
- 25:53Speaker 3: I don't really have any regrets. Well, maybe a bit
- 25:55Speaker 3: of regret about Solo a Star Wars story. I brought
- 25:58Speaker 3: Larry Kasden in on it, and we were so excited
- 26:00Speaker 3: about that idea. And then when you're into something and
- 26:03Speaker 3: you realize fundamentally conceptually you cannot replace Han Solo, at
- 26:08Speaker 3: least right now.
- 26:10Speaker 2: You can, by the way, just like you can you
- 26:13Speaker 2: can having it character correct.
- 26:19Speaker 3: Having it that early in the Disney takeover of Lucaswilma
- 26:24Speaker 3: was a mistake and that has scared them since it.
- 26:29Speaker 3: If it had been like, oh, hey, let's do a
- 26:32Speaker 3: Han Solo recasting biography movie now versus twenty sixteen or
- 26:39Speaker 3: twenty eight twenty seventeen. I think that is what it was.
- 26:43Speaker 3: I think you have a little bit of a different story.
- 26:46Speaker 3: And she said, as wonderful as Alden Heinrich it was,
- 26:49Speaker 3: and he really was good and is a wonderful actor.
- 26:51Speaker 3: We put him in an impossible situation. Once you're in it,
- 26:55Speaker 3: and once you're committed, you've got to carry on. I
- 26:57Speaker 3: think I have a bit of regret about that, but
- 27:00Speaker 3: not about the movie making and filmmaking. I don't have
- 27:03Speaker 3: regrets about that. I just think that conceptually we did
- 27:06Speaker 3: it too soon. And that's the big thing is you
- 27:16Speaker 3: have to set up your own story, and I think
- 27:19Speaker 3: Rogue one did that so perfectly. But then you go
- 27:21Speaker 3: into this a Star Wars story aspect and you're like, oh,
- 27:24Speaker 3: the next thing, we're gonna do Han solo bio.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Yeah, if you put it that way, I think that
- 27:32Speaker 2: you your head's a little too big for your shoulders
- 27:36Speaker 2: when you first make because I remember that announcement, it was, oh,
- 27:42Speaker 2: all of these movies will be Star Wars stories, so
- 27:46Speaker 2: we're gonna do Rogue one. Then there is rumors of
- 27:50Speaker 2: the Han solo and then they're like, okay, well, if
- 27:53Speaker 2: there's Han solo, then of course there was rumors of
- 27:57Speaker 2: oh is there gonna be a Yoda one? Oh I
- 27:59Speaker 2: heard there's rumor of a Bubba fet one. And of
- 28:01Speaker 2: course that rumor of a Bobba fet was actually the
- 28:04Speaker 2: Mandalorian and so yeah, I could I could see looking
- 28:11Speaker 2: in that perspective. Okay, what you really should have done
- 28:16Speaker 2: is you have this idea of Rogue one a Star
- 28:20Speaker 2: Wars story, make that its own thing, go from there,
- 28:26Speaker 2: and then when you talk about the characters that are
- 28:29Speaker 2: already well developed into this universe, you do that later on.
- 28:34Speaker 3: Yep. And the only other thing, which really doesn't apply
- 28:37Speaker 3: to us, but nobody else really talks about this. She
- 28:39Speaker 3: said that Harrison Ford actually wanted to do a fifth
- 28:44Speaker 3: Indiana Jones movie. He did not want to end on
- 28:48Speaker 3: what the fourth movie was, and that he felt like
- 28:52Speaker 3: indeed deserved one more tale to truly end the story.
- 28:58Speaker 3: So I kind of love that.
- 29:02Speaker 2: That's interesting, especially like of course this also I'm pretty
- 29:06Speaker 2: sure it was in this interview as well. Uh, it
- 29:09Speaker 2: was unveiled that there was also gonna be was it
- 29:12Speaker 2: animated or or or a TV series?
- 29:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that was a rumor that came out
- 29:18Speaker 3: from this with like everything else, was that they had
- 29:21Speaker 3: talked about doing an animated Indiana Jones TV series on
- 29:27Speaker 3: Disney Plus, which I don't know why you wouldn't do that,
- 29:30Speaker 3: because I would imagine it would be a hit.
- 29:33Speaker 2: I think, like, and again, I think one of the
- 29:36Speaker 2: biggest and dumbest decisions that any suits can currently make
- 29:42Speaker 2: in any studio is thinking, oh, well, cartoons are for kids. Hey,
- 29:50Speaker 2: have you seen South Park? And have you have you?
- 29:54Speaker 2: Have you just just wondering, like, have you have you
- 29:57Speaker 2: seen South Park?
- 29:59Speaker 3: I mean, I know what it is is, but like
- 30:02Speaker 3: like or you were asking that rhetorically, like.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Rhetorically, it's just like, sorry, there's a freaking uh Akira.
- 30:12Speaker 2: Like there's so many animes and cartoons, American cartoons, they're
- 30:18Speaker 2: not for kids. Indiana Jones, You of course are thinking, Okay,
- 30:24Speaker 2: this is supposed to be targeted towards actual like fans
- 30:30Speaker 2: of Indiana Jones, which are more of the adult age.
- 30:33Speaker 2: You can still make an adult animated cartoon. Yep.
- 30:38Speaker 3: And apparently nobody's ever gonna get that nowadays.
- 30:43Speaker 2: It's so dumb. It's so dumb. But I think that
- 30:48Speaker 2: is it for this Kathleen Kennedy News.
- 30:52Speaker 3: Yes, yes it is.
- 30:54Speaker 2: So we are into the book review into Star Wars Outlaws,
- 31:03Speaker 2: low Red Moon by Mike Chin. Now do you know
- 31:09Speaker 2: why I love this book so much? Because of this
- 31:14Speaker 2: man right here? This man knows basically how to just
- 31:21Speaker 2: write episodes of Clone Wars, and like, I can almost
- 31:29Speaker 2: visually see everything this man writes. Yeah it is.
- 31:37Speaker 3: He writes so descriptively. And now I did not like
- 31:40Speaker 3: Brotherhood as much as you did. It was still good,
- 31:43Speaker 3: but it was not like superb like you.
- 31:48Speaker 2: Uh, and I say you, But I'm just also talking
- 31:51Speaker 2: to the audience about this. If you haven't read Brotherhood,
- 31:55Speaker 2: I think you should one hundred read Brotherhood before you read.
- 31:58Speaker 3: This book because there's characters from that. And I didn't
- 32:02Speaker 3: get it until his acknowledgement at the end. I was like, Bill,
- 32:08Speaker 3: that sounds familiar.
- 32:10Speaker 2: I immediately knew. Because also something that Mike Chin has
- 32:14Speaker 2: made cannon into the Star Wars universe is my favorite
- 32:20Speaker 2: mini game to one of my favorite franchises of gaming,
- 32:24Speaker 2: freaking Final Fantasy. I freaked out about this when we
- 32:28Speaker 2: reviewed Brotherhood, but he made blitz ball cannon in Star Wars.
- 32:36Speaker 2: It plays a part in here, and as soon as
- 32:38Speaker 2: he mentioned blitz Ball again, I was like, Oh, there's
- 32:42Speaker 2: probably gonna be more references to brotherhood. I want to
- 32:45Speaker 2: know what it might be. And then of course later
- 32:47Speaker 2: on in the book there are characters that pop back
- 32:50Speaker 2: up again. So yeah, it was very fun fun.
- 32:54Speaker 3: I super dug this book, and I'm super interested to
- 33:01Speaker 3: listen to the audiobook now because they have so guys,
- 33:07Speaker 3: we go back and forth between Jalen Barsha aka Jalen
- 33:12Speaker 3: Frax's perspective and in D five's perspective in this and
- 33:18Speaker 3: we just flip back and forth basically. And Jalen's chapters, guys,
- 33:23Speaker 3: are written in I think it's third person, third person present.
- 33:28Speaker 3: It's not third person omniscient because it's written from his perspective,
- 33:35Speaker 3: but it's third person. And then n D five's chapters
- 33:40Speaker 3: are written in first person. And that did take me
- 33:43Speaker 3: a second to adjust two, but ultimately I got on
- 33:48Speaker 3: board and I really kind of enjoyed that because that
- 33:53Speaker 3: really kind of gets you in the mindset of the
- 33:56Speaker 3: droids persona, because they're very much an I kind of
- 34:01Speaker 3: the thing, because they don't care about anybody else exactly.
- 34:05Speaker 2: And I think one of the best things that I
- 34:09Speaker 2: think I want. I want to know from Tom or
- 34:14Speaker 2: from Michael Siglane if there is intentionally footnotes about droid
- 34:25Speaker 2: humor in Star Wars novels, because droid humor is dry humor.
- 34:35Speaker 2: That is like droid humor equals is equals dry humor.
- 34:39Speaker 2: That's just across the board, and they do it so well.
- 34:44Speaker 2: Mike does it so well with this the uh, we're
- 34:50Speaker 2: not getting into like spoilers here, so we're still kind
- 34:53Speaker 2: of just talking about overall thoughts. ND five is an
- 34:59Speaker 2: old Seve We're destroyed, so they play a lot off
- 35:03Speaker 2: of that. They also play off the fact that because
- 35:10Speaker 2: he is a war droid, basically he is a Hohlkling
- 35:15Speaker 2: of a droid. Like they play into every aspect of that,
- 35:19Speaker 2: and he is very a matter of fact, He's like, well,
- 35:24Speaker 2: I have no emotions because I'm a droid. Oh well,
- 35:30Speaker 2: I have no idea what you're talking about because I'm
- 35:32Speaker 2: a droid. Like it is so like kind of like yeah, duh.
- 35:39Speaker 2: But in the moment, it's just hilarious and I love it.
- 35:44Speaker 2: I want to give a shout out because I think
- 35:47Speaker 2: you were also kind of heading in this direction. Jay
- 35:52Speaker 2: Rincon and Eric Johnson. They reprise their roles from Star
- 36:00Speaker 2: Wars Outlaws the video game into this novel. We already
- 36:04Speaker 2: said this on a previous episode of Star Wars Alliance,
- 36:09Speaker 2: but Mike schen did mention in his acknowledgments in the
- 36:14Speaker 2: back of the book that he was thinking of them
- 36:18Speaker 2: while he was writing the book. So I think it's
- 36:21Speaker 2: really cool that they were actually able to reprise their
- 36:23Speaker 2: roles as these characters. But Katie, Oh, like, I know
- 36:31Speaker 2: this is top five for you? What makes it without
- 36:37Speaker 2: spoilers of course, until you actually get there, what makes
- 36:42Speaker 2: this book top five?
- 36:45Speaker 3: I really do think the writing helps nail it a lot,
- 36:51Speaker 3: especially the different perspectives, because you just get to dive
- 36:54Speaker 3: into each character. I really feel like I know Jalen
- 36:59Speaker 3: as a character and as a person out of this book.
- 37:03Speaker 3: Like you talked, we talked at the beginning about how
- 37:06Speaker 3: okay we could dive in to the video game now
- 37:10Speaker 3: really like enjoy it as a whole. I feel like
- 37:15Speaker 3: I would know him personally going in and being able
- 37:18Speaker 3: to go, ooh, do I trust you?
- 37:20Speaker 2: Do?
- 37:20Speaker 3: We think I trust you?
- 37:22Speaker 2: I was gonna say, I have I have some last
- 37:25Speaker 2: like little notes on Jalen's end of the story that
- 37:29Speaker 2: I was just like, oh, I gotta keep this to
- 37:32Speaker 2: myself until we get there.
- 37:35Speaker 3: We'll get there. But like in D five two, like
- 37:40Speaker 3: I remember when the trailer for Outlaws came out and
- 37:43Speaker 3: everyone was like, there's a Commando droid and he's wearing
- 37:47Speaker 3: a duster.
- 37:48Speaker 2: Like there was so many people that were hot for five.
- 37:54Speaker 2: It was weird.
- 37:56Speaker 3: And I think Jalen's character correct me wrong. I think
- 37:59Speaker 3: Jane's character was originally thought to be the Oh my gosh,
- 38:09Speaker 3: it's the Jedi character from Legends.
- 38:12Speaker 2: Yes, from Jedi Academy.
- 38:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not Cam, It's not Camdess.
- 38:23Speaker 2: It is uh. It starts with uh uh Jayden Jayden Core.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Is it Kyle Cataran, Yeah, that's it. Everybody thought it
- 38:44Speaker 2: was Kyle Cataran yep. And still you look at him.
- 38:50Speaker 2: You look at him right now, he looks like Kyle Catary. Still, Like.
- 38:56Speaker 3: I kind of dig that. It's like, Okay, we're gonna
- 38:59Speaker 3: do this, but he's to be that character.
- 39:01Speaker 2: And like I could totally see, like I don't personally
- 39:05Speaker 2: know Kyle Katarn's story in Legends. I only know him
- 39:10Speaker 2: from the video game of Jedi academy, so he was
- 39:14Speaker 2: already like in the thick of being a Jedi at
- 39:19Speaker 2: that point. So I don't know any of his past,
- 39:21Speaker 2: so I don't know if there's any links or anything
- 39:25Speaker 2: to Jalen and Kyle. But like I I really dig
- 39:33Speaker 2: his character. I really love his motivations, his decisions throughout
- 39:42Speaker 2: the book except for the last one. We will get
- 39:46Speaker 2: into it. And I I understood him, like genuinely. I
- 39:56Speaker 2: understood his anxieties, his fears, his excitement, Like I understand
- 40:04Speaker 2: everything about this character.
- 40:06Speaker 3: You really do, because and you understand those motivations like
- 40:12Speaker 3: from the incident at the beginning of the book where
- 40:15Speaker 3: in D five and Jalen get introduced, Like you understand
- 40:19Speaker 3: those motivations that come through and it like like you're
- 40:23Speaker 3: saying it really does, but it really does come through
- 40:26Speaker 3: where you go. If I was put in his situation,
- 40:30Speaker 3: I would do the exact same thing. And we'll talk
- 40:34Speaker 3: about his relationship with in D five and that restraining
- 40:37Speaker 3: bolt that comes into play.
- 40:39Speaker 2: But like.
- 40:41Speaker 3: I would one hundred percent do exactly what he did,
- 40:44Speaker 3: and I have no clubs with it. And I know
- 40:48Speaker 3: that's why the epilogue is there, is to kind of
- 40:50Speaker 3: go Okay, hey, there's more to this that means the app.
- 40:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's I'm curious to finally play Outlaws after this,
- 41:02Speaker 2: but I'm curious to see how much of this story
- 41:07Speaker 2: is finished with Outlaws and then what remains, because if
- 41:14Speaker 2: there's more, if there's a possibility of going on another
- 41:19Speaker 2: adventure with BD five, Jalen, or the combination of both,
- 41:27Speaker 2: I think I want it.
- 41:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I would think so too, So I'm interested to see.
- 41:37Speaker 3: I probably won't play it again, but like I will
- 41:41Speaker 3: probably go see if somebody.
- 41:43Speaker 2: His combined all the cut scenes and guns story.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, especially because I Kves as a character is
- 41:55Speaker 3: super intriguing to me as well, Like we don't get
- 41:59Speaker 3: enough of the female smuggler. I feel like so that
- 42:05Speaker 3: I definitely will be going to look at the cut
- 42:07Speaker 3: scenes for sure. I think I'm ready to dive into
- 42:17Speaker 3: like minor spoilers. I don't feel like there's a lot
- 42:20Speaker 3: out of this we could like really spoil.
- 42:23Speaker 2: Yeah. I think of let's just get like the big
- 42:28Speaker 2: one out of the way. Yeah, the meeting of the two, Yes,
- 42:34Speaker 2: So I think it's more fun to kind of learn
- 42:39Speaker 2: who Jalen and his family is. So I'm gonna leave
- 42:43Speaker 2: all of that alone, but just know that they get
- 42:50Speaker 2: into a situation where it's time to celebrate. Everybody's having fun.
- 42:55Speaker 2: It's all a good time. Of course, Jay's dad is
- 43:00Speaker 2: gonna be watching bliss ball, everybody's gonna be eating, It's
- 43:03Speaker 2: all gonna have fun. But one thing that you probably
- 43:07Speaker 2: didn't expect out of us being all like joyous of
- 43:11Speaker 2: this entire story is the fact that ND five was
- 43:16Speaker 2: not a good guy to start off with. He was
- 43:21Speaker 2: actually programmed to kill Jalen and his family, and he
- 43:33Speaker 2: just see succeeds somewhat to a point of where Jalen's
- 43:39Speaker 2: the last one. There is a part of the story
- 43:46Speaker 2: that I've told Katie, like even when we were texting
- 43:49Speaker 2: about it, I said, this is predictable. I think I
- 43:54Speaker 2: already know what's gonna be at the end of this book.
- 43:58Speaker 2: And we were right. We were, we were totally right.
- 44:01Speaker 2: I'm not gonna spoil that part. I think the setup
- 44:05Speaker 2: is really nice. I think that the way that you
- 44:09Speaker 2: learn about the family, it gives you those emotions that
- 44:14Speaker 2: you really need for being on the side. Excuse me
- 44:19Speaker 2: of Jayalen and all of this, But when the act happens,
- 44:26Speaker 2: when n D five makes his way into this party
- 44:31Speaker 2: and does the act that he does. There's I'll be honest,
- 44:39Speaker 2: during that entire sequence, I had to probably reread it
- 44:43Speaker 2: two or three times. A lot of things happen.
- 44:47Speaker 3: I did as well. That's probably the one area that
- 44:50Speaker 3: I had trouble with was I was like, wait a second, like,
- 44:52Speaker 3: am I following this correctly? And I had to go
- 44:56Speaker 3: Especially when Jalen is working with like the lead droid,
- 45:01Speaker 3: I had to go one one they were they were
- 45:06Speaker 3: tracking all the heat signatures and watching them sip out,
- 45:10Speaker 3: and I was like, wait a second track tractor like
- 45:13Speaker 3: flip back and forth kind of just to make sure
- 45:16Speaker 3: I was following everything properly. It's really the only point
- 45:22Speaker 3: I had problems with the book. I got to part
- 45:24Speaker 3: two and I was like, Okay, I have to slow down.
- 45:27Speaker 3: I have to slow down, Like I cannot just jump
- 45:29Speaker 3: into part three, but I was super excited to.
- 45:33Speaker 2: It's funny that you say you need to slow down
- 45:35Speaker 2: by part two because because of the events that happens
- 45:40Speaker 2: at the end of part one. ND five is not
- 45:45Speaker 2: the same quote unquote droid that he is when he's
- 45:47Speaker 2: a try he's trying to kill Jalen. So then they
- 45:52Speaker 2: start to work together via the help of a restraining
- 45:57Speaker 2: bolt yep, and.
- 45:59Speaker 3: That saves Jalen's life at the end of it, and
- 46:07Speaker 3: he ends up stump basically stunning in D five.
- 46:12Speaker 5: Mm hmmm, And it basically sets into a sequence of
- 46:17Speaker 5: events like, hey, like if you pull the a droid
- 46:22Speaker 5: smith droid repair person tells him, hey, if you pull
- 46:25Speaker 5: this restraining bolt off, there's no guarantee that what's on
- 46:30Speaker 5: that chip that is fused to his brain basically.
- 46:36Speaker 3: There's no telling if that would come back or not.
- 46:38Speaker 3: And so Jalen basically says, Okay, I'm gonna keep this
- 46:43Speaker 3: restraining bolt on him because I need the help to
- 46:47Speaker 3: find out who did this to my family.
- 46:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:51Speaker 3: I don't want to die.
- 46:53Speaker 2: I don't want This book is revenge, a revenge story. Yeah.
- 47:00Speaker 2: And it's funny that you said you need to slow
- 47:03Speaker 2: down back part two. When part two starts, or like
- 47:09Speaker 2: maybe a little bit into part two. The next thing
- 47:13Speaker 2: you know, you're reading in the perspective of ND five
- 47:16Speaker 2: and he's like nine years have passed and you're like, wait,
- 47:19Speaker 2: what Yeah, Like that caught me off guard as well,
- 47:23Speaker 2: because like you just you see them working on ND
- 47:27Speaker 2: five to get this restraining bolt, and like all these
- 47:29Speaker 2: other things and like making everything, making sure everything's all
- 47:33Speaker 2: hunky dory. And then the next thing, you know, he's like, yeah,
- 47:37Speaker 2: we've been working together for nine years. I was like, uh, Mike,
- 47:43Speaker 2: what are you doing this? This whole this whole like
- 47:48Speaker 2: story of Revenge could have been a trilogy. Yeah, Like
- 47:53Speaker 2: I want to know what other adventures they went on.
- 47:56Speaker 3: And that's what like, I'm so curious because I would
- 48:01Speaker 3: you kind of talked about how the real happens to
- 48:04Speaker 3: the end the book, and I won't dive into like
- 48:07Speaker 3: what that reveal is, but that reveal that we were
- 48:09Speaker 3: both expecting to happen. I was like, is it going
- 48:13Speaker 3: to happen or does it happen in the video game?
- 48:17Speaker 2: I was gonna say, Wow, one thing, I will say,
- 48:21Speaker 2: Chapter forty eight, forty nine, and fifty are so short yep,
- 48:31Speaker 2: And I thought we are not going to get this reveal.
- 48:36Speaker 2: They're gonna make me buy this video game. So that
- 48:40Speaker 2: what I'm thinking of the story. And because I thought
- 48:44Speaker 2: that happens when I will when I made that thought process,
- 48:48Speaker 2: I love Mike Chen, but I literally said to myself,
- 48:52Speaker 2: if this is just an advertisement to make me buy
- 48:55Speaker 2: the game. I will hate this book forever, yep. But
- 49:00Speaker 2: they give you the satisfying ending. They give you what
- 49:05Speaker 2: they promised at the beginning of the story. This is
- 49:09Speaker 2: a full completed book with a tease at the end
- 49:15Speaker 2: to basically acknowledge, Hey, there is a game after this, right,
- 49:23Speaker 2: so I dug this. We get to see some familiar faces.
- 49:28Speaker 2: Finnick has become such a like fan favorite character.
- 49:33Speaker 3: I jumped up and down.
- 49:35Speaker 2: We're seeing her so many more different things to see
- 49:38Speaker 2: her in this I think is very very fun and
- 49:42Speaker 2: it's very much the Finnic character, very stoic, not very talkative.
- 49:48Speaker 2: She gets to be a badass with a sniper in
- 49:51Speaker 2: this book as well. Very very fun. I liked all
- 49:57Speaker 2: of this even I I think she's an original character.
- 50:02Speaker 3: But Laurel, Yeah, she has an original character. And Mike
- 50:06Speaker 3: Chin in the acknowledgments talked about her and she passed
- 50:12Speaker 3: away in early twenty twenty five and was a science
- 50:16Speaker 3: fiction writer, and that she was in the process of
- 50:22Speaker 3: writing two novels that have not yet come to pass
- 50:29Speaker 3: come to be published.
- 50:33Speaker 2: Oh yeah, at the very end.
- 50:35Speaker 3: Yeah, so as Laurel Amberdigen is who that character is
- 50:41Speaker 3: named after.
- 50:44Speaker 2: Okay, well that's sweet. I didn't I didn't get that
- 50:47Speaker 2: far in the acknowledgments because I literally like almost finished
- 50:51Speaker 2: the book, like right before we started recording. Look, I'm sorry,
- 50:55Speaker 2: no no, no, no no no. Like it was, it
- 50:58Speaker 2: was more so because I had to like also work
- 51:01Speaker 2: around Ranger Alliances recording that we were supposed to record yesterday.
- 51:06Speaker 2: So like it was, it just kind of got everywhere.
- 51:10Speaker 2: But yeah, this book was so much fun, so much fun.
- 51:14Speaker 2: There is heists, there is comedy, there's emotion. There, there's
- 51:22Speaker 2: everything under the sun in this book. And I think
- 51:25Speaker 2: genuinely when you can get a writer that can put
- 51:32Speaker 2: almost everything in a book like this, I feel like
- 51:36Speaker 2: the only thing this book did not have is like
- 51:41Speaker 2: romance and horror, like are the two genres that weren't
- 51:44Speaker 2: in here. There's action, there's adventure. There's a little bit
- 51:48Speaker 2: of suspense, Like there's like there's an intense moment where
- 51:53Speaker 2: like a bomb's about to go off and ND five
- 51:55Speaker 2: has to fly an old schools separatist ship to try
- 52:00Speaker 2: and saved Jalen. It was so intense. It's so cool,
- 52:07Speaker 2: But like, yeah, it's just a great, great book. But
- 52:17Speaker 2: one thing that I will say, I won't ruin the
- 52:19Speaker 2: ending for you guys. I will say this in order
- 52:25Speaker 2: for Jalen to really move past what happened to him
- 52:29Speaker 2: in the beginning of the book, he makes a decision
- 52:33Speaker 2: almost immediately after to change his name to give himself
- 52:39Speaker 2: a new identity. In the book, he finally, like at
- 52:47Speaker 2: the end of the book, he finally embraces that new identity. Yeah,
- 52:54Speaker 2: and I didn't like it the decision that he made
- 52:59Speaker 2: at the like literally the last page. There's there's the
- 53:02Speaker 2: two there's two pages at the end of chapter fifty. Well,
- 53:11Speaker 2: it might have even been chapter forty nine and chapter fifty.
- 53:16Speaker 2: It might have been both.
- 53:18Speaker 3: Yeah, and that was That was the final thing I
- 53:21Speaker 3: was gonna ask you about. So the restraining bolt NT
- 53:26Speaker 3: five actually, once we get to the nine years later
- 53:30Speaker 3: portion at the beginning of the book, NT five spends
- 53:34Speaker 3: the majority of his time without that bolt. Is not
- 53:39Speaker 3: until the very end when that reveal happens that the
- 53:42Speaker 3: bolt goes back on.
- 53:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 53:44Speaker 3: Really, And Jalen uses a terrible excuse. He's like, man,
- 53:49Speaker 3: you were for me your own identity. You were going
- 53:51Speaker 3: to reply to this message, so.
- 53:55Speaker 2: That was the thing. So throughout the book, Jalen ignores
- 54:00Speaker 2: knowledges that he has lied so much about the bolt
- 54:08Speaker 2: to ND five, he had to be very hesitant on
- 54:14Speaker 2: creating new lies because he didn't want to cross the
- 54:17Speaker 2: wires of certain lies. Yep, So when he made what
- 54:24Speaker 2: essentially is this final lie, because in D five there's
- 54:29Speaker 2: points in the perspective of ND five where he acknowledges, Oh,
- 54:35Speaker 2: Jalen makes some really like questionable reasoning on while I
- 54:40Speaker 2: need it, But he is, of course somebody who wants
- 54:44Speaker 2: the best for me. So yeah, ND five is just
- 54:48Speaker 2: a loyal freaking dog man.
- 54:51Speaker 3: Like he just wants to be loved.
- 54:53Speaker 2: Essentially, he is just a very loyal dog And for
- 55:00Speaker 2: or that decision to be made, like I like to
- 55:07Speaker 2: go through that entire story with Jalen, for Jalen to
- 55:10Speaker 2: make that story, to make that choice at the very end,
- 55:15Speaker 2: I was very disappointed in the point, not in the book.
- 55:18Speaker 2: Not in the book. I was not disappointed in the book.
- 55:20Speaker 2: I was disappointed in the character. That was very clear.
- 55:24Speaker 3: That was the one point where I disagreed with Jalen's
- 55:27Speaker 3: decision making as well. Like I said, I related and
- 55:31Speaker 3: could make every decision that he's made. I think at
- 55:34Speaker 3: that point, Indy five has proven himself reliable enough where
- 55:39Speaker 3: you don't have to worry about that, And if you're
- 55:40Speaker 3: truly leaving your old identity behind and embracing your new one,
- 55:45Speaker 3: there's no reason that you should have had to make
- 55:47Speaker 3: that choice, especially with the choices that Indy five made
- 55:52Speaker 3: at the end to prove his loyalty to you.
- 55:57Speaker 2: Which is why I need to know what happens in
- 56:01Speaker 2: the game, because it is kind of teased in the
- 56:06Speaker 2: acknowledgement that this story could possibly continue in the game, So, like,
- 56:14Speaker 2: I want to know if what happened at the end
- 56:20Speaker 2: of this book between Jalen and n D five, is
- 56:24Speaker 2: that at all acknowledged? Is there a conversation about it?
- 56:29Speaker 2: Is there a like reversing of the decision? You know?
- 56:37Speaker 3: Yeah, it looks like there is gameplays up on YouTube,
- 56:45Speaker 3: so I'll have to go check that out. I don't
- 56:51Speaker 3: know this person, because I obviously don't really do a
- 56:54Speaker 3: whole lot of gaming related things, but the rad Brad
- 56:58Speaker 3: has a part one at least, I'm trying to see
- 57:01Speaker 3: if he has a full or if they have a
- 57:03Speaker 3: full playlist, but I will definitely be checking out because
- 57:15Speaker 3: I want to know if it continues, because obviously based
- 57:18Speaker 3: on the epilogu which I'm not going to dive into
- 57:20Speaker 3: the epilogue, but something does happen. Something happens, So what happens?
- 57:25Speaker 3: And I want to know this and the epilogue being there,
- 57:31Speaker 3: I don't mind that as a selling point for the game.
- 57:35Speaker 3: Like you said, if the reveal that we were expecting
- 57:38Speaker 3: hadn't happened at the end, I would have been pissed
- 57:44Speaker 3: off with the book because that is too much. You
- 57:47Speaker 3: need to finish the story that you're telling to make
- 57:52Speaker 3: this a good book. And Mike Chin one hundred percent
- 57:54Speaker 3: makes this a good book. This is a five out
- 57:55Speaker 3: of five for me. But knowing the epilogue is what
- 58:00Speaker 3: it is. I need to know what happened.
- 58:07Speaker 2: There is a video here called game It's from a
- 58:15Speaker 2: channel called game Clips, Star Wars Outlaws, all cut scenes,
- 58:19Speaker 2: full movie. But this is twenty twenty four. It's twenty
- 58:25Speaker 2: twenty six. Did this game come out in the end
- 58:28Speaker 2: of twenty four?
- 58:30Speaker 3: Yeah? I think so.
- 58:32Speaker 2: Oh wow, Well, uh it's two hours and fifty nine minutes.
- 58:40Speaker 3: Oh my goodness, it's a movie. It is a movie. Okay,
- 58:45Speaker 3: I'm gonna put this in my history so I can
- 58:48Speaker 3: come back and watch it later.
- 58:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 58:55Speaker 3: Oh, there, here's a gamer's Little playground which has all
- 59:02Speaker 3: cut scenes, full game movie six and a half hours.
- 59:06Speaker 2: Oh so that's the whole game. So that shows you
- 59:10Speaker 2: the whole game. Yeah, it'll it'll show you their gameplay
- 59:14Speaker 2: to give you context to the cut scenes.
- 59:17Speaker 3: Oh yeah, it says full game movie. So the difference
- 59:21Speaker 3: is all cut scenes full movie. Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 59:26Speaker 3: I'll probably just go all cut scenes. I don't know
- 59:29Speaker 3: if I do watch the gameplay.
- 59:32Speaker 2: No, Like I I think that you especially now that
- 59:36Speaker 2: we know a little bit about the world of Outlaws. Yeah,
- 59:41Speaker 2: I'm sure we can probably like get some references and
- 59:43Speaker 2: stuff like that. But yeah, guys, this this was a
- 59:47Speaker 2: really good book. I'm definitely going to have to really
- 59:52Speaker 2: decide if this hits my top five with Katie.
- 59:57Speaker 3: I say top five once. If we do the episode,
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: we'll see, Yeah, I think we might have to go
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: like top ten in that one and just really talk
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: about it. But like this hit and like, guys, I
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: know we didn't talk too much about it. I think
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: lately we've had more issues with books that have come
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: out so these reviews have been a lot longer. This
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: one is a very simple plot, like all Riven stories are,
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: There's not really a whole lot to talk about plot wise,
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: Plus we don't want to spoil too much. I love Phinnick.
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: I love the fact that cures in here as well.
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: I love the fact that my Chin's able to tie
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: in his other characters and other books into this very
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: simple plot. But like it does it really well. And
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: that's what you have to do with a simple plot
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: is if you're going to do a simple plot, you
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: have to hit on all cylinders, and my Chin did
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: exactly that.
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: Yeah, this also uh gives me even more of a
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: want to jump into his marvel. He has a what
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: if I believe it's Moon Night?
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Uh?
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: Yeah, what if Moonnight was Venom or the almost moon Night?
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: Yeah, so it says, what if Mark Spector was the
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: host to Moon was the host of Venom? So, uh,
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: I think I'm gonna pick that up as well, so that'll.
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: Be Yeah, it's been sitting in my audible because we
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: got the first one and then I never continued off
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: because the first one, So now I'm gonna have to
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: go do it. But yeah, I love the book. Honestly,
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: Random House Worlds, bring him back, give him another one.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: Yeah, what he deserves. I think, like genuinely, I think
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: Mike Chen should definitely be a go to person for
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: like of course, like one of the books that is
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: going to be coming out this year hasn't been announced
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: yet as far as date wise, but the Mask of
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: Fear trilogy, Like we still have the second book coming
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: out this year. Like, if they do another initiative and
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: have a trilogy or do something like The High Republic,
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: Mike Chin should be a part of that, because Mike
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: Chin was not a part of The High Republic. Yeah,
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: and I think he should be one of those go
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: to writers.
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: Well, and this is the thing that comes in with
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: Folony taking over, is the creative head of Lucasfilm Boloney
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: don't care about the books. So is Filoney going to
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: allow there to be another initiative or is he gonna
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: just want hey fill in the Blakes.
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: Don't remind me, Katie.
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: We have to be a realistic Star Wars than Yes, yes, yes,
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: yes we do.
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: It's probably healthier that we be a little bit more, really,
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: it is.
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: It's good for our sanity, all right, Clay, where can
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: they find you.
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: Of course, you can always find me at Fanboy clay
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: on eighty and all social media less of Twitter, of course,
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: I'm hardly on there anymore. And then also I wanted
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: to acknowledge I acknowledged this over at Ranger Alliance. I'm
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: going to acknowledge you here on Star Wars Alliance. I
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: am slowly but surely getting used to this schedule that
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: I have with this new job. Mondays will be my
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: content creation days for the podcast. So I know, we
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: kind of took a break there for a second, me
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: getting used to this new job and whatnot. That will
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: continue again. You will start to see more of the
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: going live posts and then more of the regular posts
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: that we usually put out throughout the week as well.
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: So just be on the lookout for that over on
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: Instagram at Star Wars Alliance. Yeah, without the A and
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: the Wars very important, don't forget.
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: Y'all. You can find me on most social media platforms.

- 1:04:44Speaker 3: Wars very important. I forget it. You can also shoot
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: us an email using that same user name at gmail
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: dot com and that is the way to contact us
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: if you are not a social media person. Once again,
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: we'd like to thank b Random House Worlds for sending
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: us copies of this book. Obviously, guys, our reviews are
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: true to our word. Just because we receive free copies
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: does not impact those It just allows us to get
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: our opinions to you a lot sooner. So with that this,
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: I want to wish everyone a great day or nate,
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: whatever summer day you're listening or watching, and we will
