- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hello, and welcome to The Aligned Actor Podcast.
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: I'm Amy Schloerb, your friendly fellow actor and mindfulness and mindset coach.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: And this is the podcast where I offer practical mindfulness tools
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: and mindset shifts designed to help us all thrive in our full actor lives.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: Because as we all know as actors, actor life is a roller coaster.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: It is full of ups and downs, twists and turns.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: We never know what's coming next.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: The entertainment industry wreaks absolute havoc on our nervous systems.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: And the only way that we're going to survive in this business long term is
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: if we're taking care of our nervous systems and we're taking care of ourselves
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: and not burning out.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: And that's the only way we're going to survive long term.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: And that's what I want us to be able to do,
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: to be able to handle all the stress that the entertainment industry loves
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: to throw our way.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: So friends, it turns out that there are less than 100 days left in 2026.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Yikes!
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: I know, right?
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: But also,
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: good news,
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: the delightful Dave Holmes,
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: who you should definitely go find on social media everywhere that he is,
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: and he also has a publication called Cockshore on Substack,
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: and he's running a 100-day event,
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: and he's writing an article a day over on his publication,
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Cockshore, and it's great.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: So it's basically his ideas, like, it's wellness and habits and, like, It's good stuff.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: So here's the quote I want to give to you from it.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: So it's a 100-day event to help us all, or to help... Oh, I put a typo in my own writing.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: I'm just going to fix that.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: To help us all wring some goodness out of the last 100 days of this mother of a year.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: That's what he says.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: So you can find those articles over on his publication, Coxsure.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: I've now mentioned that many, many times.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: And I'm putting a link in my Substack, which will go out to you very soon.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: You already have it now.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: So you can just look below and read the things that I'm looking at right now.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: So for my 100 days, I am choosing to build a habit.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: And the habit that I'm going to build...
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Which I was a little,
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: when I got started with it,
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: and still now I'm a little like, this could be an epic fail.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: But the whole point is just to practice.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: So my habit that I'm building is I'm going to post one yappy type video per day
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: on Instagram talking about actor mindfulness and mindset,
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: anything related to actors and how to make it easier to live your life as an actor.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Because it is high time that I actually started sharing all my ideas
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: and not just like hoarding them for myself or just thinking about them and wishing
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: that people knew this stuff but then not doing anything about it.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: So I need to be sharing my ideas.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: I share a lot of stuff on the podcast but I don't share really all that much stuff
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: on Instagram and social media in general.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: And so I want to get better at that.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: I think that Making it a practice,
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: making it just like, okay,
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: I just show up every day and I put something out there and I see what happens
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: and we just keep going.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: And it's just a practice.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: So, so far I have posted seven videos, only 93 to go.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: And actually, no, no.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: When I wrote this, I had only posted seven.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: Now I've posted eight.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: So take that past me that wrote this.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: So $8.92 videos to go.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: And I'm honestly having a lot of fun.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: I'm really enjoying it.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: And I've also started to notice and feel the stress of making this change in my life
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: where I'm putting myself out there more and doing a daily video practice.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: The novelty of that has worn off.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: And now my brain is starting to go, oh, wait, what?
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: We're actually going to make this change?
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Wait a sec.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Change is scary.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: I don't know if I want to do this.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: But I told myself going into this that it's just a daily practice.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: That's the entire goal.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: It's not about views.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: It's not about going viral or anything like that.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: It doesn't matter if the videos are messy.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: It doesn't matter if they don't get a lot of views.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: The point is to just post and play around,
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: experiment with my voice,
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: experiment with You know,
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: just showing up as authentically me as possible and just putting myself out there
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: and being comfortable with that.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: And seeing how I can grow and change and improve my communication skills through video.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: Because I don't know if you've noticed, but you probably have on this podcast.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: I like to talk.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: I like to talk long.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: And I kind of will go here and there and everywhere and ramble around on a topic and
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: And being able to condense myself to one minute,
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: and being able to get an idea across very clearly and effectively,
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: I think is a skill.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: And I want to improve that skill.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: I do think I'm good at communicating ideas, but I think I could also get better at it.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: So that's the point, is to get better and improve my communication skills through short videos.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: So I decided that why put all this work on Instagram and not share it also
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: with you guys here on The Aligned Actor podcast.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: So that's what I'm going to do.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Probably for the rest of the year,
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: I'm going to be sharing like a week's worth of the videos here on Substack.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: And yeah, that's going to be the podcast episode.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: I might break it up with other stuff too, other episodes.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: Who knows?
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: I get to do what I want.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: I get to make the rules here.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: So yeah, but if you missed them on Instagram this previous week, you can enjoy them here.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: So I thought that would be fun.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: So today I have days one through seven for you.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: And in them,
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: I talk about starting the challenge,
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: why I wanted to start the challenge, what I'm going to be doing in the hundred days.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: I tell the story of how I became an actor,
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: where my mother features as a guest player in that story.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: I talk about my podcast,
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: so please don't get confused at that video and think that we're somehow starting
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: over the episode or that you've skipped to a new episode because I start that video
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: with, hello and welcome to The Aligned Actor Podcast.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: I'm Amy Schloerb, your friendly fellow actor, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: Because I thought that would be fun to do when I was hyping my podcast over on Instagram.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: So...
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: Don't get confused.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: You're smart.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: I don't think you're going to get confused.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: But anyway, I do a video on that.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: I do a video on the way that the entertainment industry wreaks absolute havoc
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: on our nervous systems as actors.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: I have a video on the...
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: I tell the story of the time that I got dropped by an agent via a certified letter
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: that my stepmother opened.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was fun.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: I also talk about how I overcame a bad audition habit that I had.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: And then I wrap it up this week's worth of videos with my career and life motto, ABC.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: Always be celebrating.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: So, without further ado, please enjoy.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: It turns out there are 100 days left in 2026, which is both fun and fun.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: Terrifying for some reason.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: Anyway, Dave Holmes,
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: the delightful Dave Holmes,
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: suggested that we all do something for those hundred days,
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: like start a habit or end a habit or start several habits and end several habits.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: Get a good sprint,
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: like a good like run up to 2027,
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: which I love because new year, new you, That doesn't work.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: It just doesn't.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: There's probably scientific evidence for that too.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: Anyway, I'm stalling.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: My thing that I want to try to do that might fail miserably is talk about something
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: for one minute and one minute only related to actors and acting and mindset
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: and anything like that.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: So that's my thing.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: Wish me luck.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: I am an actress because of my mom.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: This nice lady behind the glare.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: There she is.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: Holly Schloerb.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: That's me.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: We were driving in Vermont on a dirt road.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: It was the summer after I had graduated from college and I was hemming and hawing
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: and going, I don't know what to do with my life.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: And I had just gotten a theater degree and a sociology degree and that was real practical.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: And she just very simply turned to me and very simply said,
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: well, your dad and I think you should just go out to Los Angeles and go for it.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: And it was this beautiful permission slip because that's what I wanted to do,
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: but I was kind of too afraid to admit that to myself or to anyone else.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: And I think sometimes we need somebody else to give us that little nudge and say,
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: I believe in you and you should go for it.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: So thanks, mom.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: Hello, and welcome to The Aligned Actor Podcast.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: I'm Amy Schloerb, your friendly fellow actor and mindfulness and mindset coach.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: And this is the podcast where I offer practical mindfulness tools and mindset shifts
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: to help us all thrive in our full actor lives.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: Is what you will hear today when you go listen to the new episode of
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: The Aligned Actor Podcast that just dropped today.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: Yes, I have a podcast.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: I talk about it sometimes on Instagram, but probably not nearly enough.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: And so today's video is about the fact that I have a podcast and you should go listen to it.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: It's called The Aligned Actor Podcast.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: Like I said,
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: I share mindfulness tools and mindset shifts to help us all thrive
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: in our full actor lives because actor life is a stressful rollercoaster.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: And the only way that we're going to survive long term in this profession is
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: if we're taking care of ourselves and soothing and fortifying our nervous system.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: And mindfulness and mindset shifts help us do that.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: Go listen.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: The entertainment industry wreaks absolute havoc on actor nervous systems.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: Rejection.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: We're constantly putting ourselves out there and usually we're not getting
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: the response that we want.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: Uncertainty.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: We don't know when the next job is coming or if there even will be a next job.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: My dogs vehemently agree with me.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: They're saying, preach!
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah!
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: Urgency.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: We got to get the self-tape done now.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: And oftentimes we can feel like we're falling behind in our careers
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: if we're not able to succeed and make it right now.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: All of that.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: Rejection, uncertainty, urgency.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: That all feels so uncomfortable in the body.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: It produces very real...
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: Very visceral sensations in our bodies that are hella uncomfortable.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: It's stressful.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: It's exhausting.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: And for today,
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: I just want you to sit with that and acknowledge it and know there is nothing wrong
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: with you.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: You're just an actor.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: This one time at band camp,
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: I got dropped by my agent via a certified letter that my stepmom signed for.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: She was like, here, this came for you!
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: And I was all excited because it was a certified letter!
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: And then I proceeded to open up one of the worst rejections that an actor can receive.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: And in front of an outsider of our industry.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: So there was that added layer of like,
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: you don't understand what this is and this looks really bad, doesn't it?
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: And oh god, now I'm feeling really, really insecure about everything.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: So yeah, rejection absolutely sucks.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: Rejection witnessed by somebody who doesn't understand all the rejection
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: that happens in the acting profession and that this is kind of a common thing,
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: this can happen to actors throughout their career, doubly sucked.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: So yeah, all around, rejection.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: It's kind of a bitch.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: I used to have this really bad habit of talking myself out of the role
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: before I'd even auditioned for it.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: So this would sound like, I don't know if I really play this kind of character well.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: I don't know if I can hit this.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: I don't think I'm believable as.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: It was no good.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: So I got this one audition and I caught myself running this thought habit in my brain.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: And I shifted it and I went, no, no, no.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: I'm going to list all the reasons why I am right for this role.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: So I went to work and I convinced myself that I was absolutely the right person
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: to hire for this role.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: And it changed how I auditioned for that part.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: It made my audition 10 times better.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: I turned in a tape I was really proud of.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: I didn't get it, but that office has called me in so many times since then.
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: So, don't talk yourself out of the role.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: Convince yourself that you are right for it.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: I am celebrating.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: First of all, today I am celebrating my birthday.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: Yay, me!
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: Happy birthday to me!
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: And second of all,
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: I am celebrating Day 7 of my 100 Days of Yapping videos,
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: and I'm really excited about that.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: I've done one week!
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: So that's a celebration in and of itself.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: I stuck with it for at least one week.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: Hooray!
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: Yay!
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: Also, my life motto, one of my life mottos is ABC.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: Always be celebrating.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: Because why just celebrate the big stuff?
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: Why just celebrate booking when booking happens few and far between?
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: Why not also celebrate getting the self-tape request?
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: Putting the character together?
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: Celebrate doing the self-tape?
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: Celebrate sending the self-tape off because you did it.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: You sent it off into the world.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: Celebrate everything.
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: I choose to celebrate every single step of my journey.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: I think that's a really fun energy to live in.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: It's a lot like gratitude, but way more fun.
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: So ABC, always be celebrating.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for joining me today.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: I hope that you found those videos helpful and inspiring and that you liked them and
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: that you like these videos that I'm sharing with you,
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: this sort of short form content that then I'm putting together for the podcast.
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: And if you did,
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: I would really love it if you'd leave a comment here on Substack or on YouTube
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: or wherever you found this.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: Leave a review of the podcast.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: That'd be really fun.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: Also, you can share this content with any actor that you think could benefit from it.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: That would really help me out and help me grow my podcast even more.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: And I would love it if you would check out my offerings below.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: They're linked up below on the Substack.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: I have various things.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: What do I have down here?
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: Ooh, I have my Get Out of Your Head and Rock Your Next Audition meditation.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: It's a free guided meditation that I offer to people.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: I have that one.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: Probably going to end up doing a video about that at some point because why not?
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: I also have my Aligned Actor Mindfulness Toolkit.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: That's a fun one.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: That's just $7 and it has a comprehensive collection of tools guaranteed to be
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: the Dramamine you need for the rollercoaster ride of actor life.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: So you can go pick up that for just $7.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: And then finally,
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: there's some information about me and a link to my website,
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: which you can go check out.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I would love it if you would check all that stuff out.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: That'd be fantastic.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: Clearly, I'm also still working on my calls to action.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: Oh, and last thing, because I think I have to voice it on the podcast.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: I think that's how credits work.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: Yes, okay.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: So I used a little swoosh sound effect in between the videos of the different days
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: of the seven days that I put in this podcast.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: And that video, or that sound effect credit is, the credit goes to Woosh by Long Cinematic.
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: What?
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Woosh.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: And then it has Dash Long Cinematic by JWSound,
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: and then it has a hyperlink to that,
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: and then there's a license of attribution of 4.0.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: I don't know if I needed to say all that.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: I don't know if I said it correctly.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: Eh.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: Oh well.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: This was fun.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for joining me, and I will see you next time.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: Bye.
