Latest / Worldview Matters With David Fiorazo / Fred Pry: Reaching More Children With The Gospel Of Jesus Christ
Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to World View Matters, discussing controversial issues, discerning current events,
- 0:10defending biblical Christianity.
- 0:13No topic, off limits.
- 0:16And now, here's your host, David Firazzo.
- 0:20Friends, family and Christ, welcome to another podcast.
- 0:22Thanks for sharing, for praying for us.
- 0:25We appreciate you so very much.
- 0:27Today we're going to talk about something very important that is the gospel and children.
- 0:32One thing that could change America, if we're here long enough and the Lord doesn't return
- 0:36first, is reaching the children with the gospel of Jesus Christ and discipling so that they
- 0:42can go out and reach others, and this country will change if we, if given enough time.
- 0:48That's what we're going to focus on because I was talking with our guests before we got
- 0:51on the air today, how the enemy uses ways access to children.
- 0:56Younger and younger ages, we've been talking about that in different news stories.
- 1:00Well, child evangelism fellowship has a goal to reach 35 million children this year.
- 1:08CEF, it's an international organization.
- 1:11The website is cefonline.com and we've got Fred Pry from CEF here.
- 1:18He became a career missionary 20 years ago for child evangelism fellowship.
- 1:24After 25 years in the business world, he started directing a local chapter in Pennsylvania
- 1:29that led to an appointment as the state director of Virginia, followed by joining the staff
- 1:35at CEF International Headquarters.
- 1:38And he was invited to lead USA ministries.
- 1:41And since 2024, now he's been serving as vice president of administration and providing
- 1:47further leadership to child evangelism fellowships executive staff.
- 1:53And Pry, welcome to World View Matters.
- 1:55Thanks for your time today.
- 1:57That's so good to be with you in your listeners.
- 2:00Well, you wouldn't be doing this if you didn't have a heart for the gospel and children.
- 2:06What came first?
- 2:07Was it both for you to get involved with CEF?
- 2:11Well, for me, I became a follower of Christ at the age of nine.
- 2:17So it was all about the gospel for me personally.
- 2:21But then, of course, when you start having kids and a family man married, have four children,
- 2:25now I have four grandchildren.
- 2:28And you realize the importance of the gospel because it only, it really only has the answers
- 2:34to life that anyone is searching for.
- 2:37The world doesn't provide it.
- 2:38There are no answers in our world.
- 2:40They promise a lot of things, but they don't deliver.
- 2:42The one thing that delivers day in and day out is the good news of Jesus Christ and
- 2:48a relationship with him.
- 2:49Amen, brother.
- 2:51And it's so needed, as I was mentioning before we brought you on, that this country could
- 2:56change if given enough time.
- 2:57I just don't think we've been patient enough.
- 2:59I don't think we've had the focus on children.
- 3:03But would you care to speak to for a moment the fact that there is spiritual warfare involved
- 3:08and the enemy accesses kids?
- 3:11The enemy is making disciples.
- 3:12We're supposed to make disciples for Jesus, for the biblical worldview.
- 3:16If the enemy is done, I don't want to give Satan credit, but he uses minions.
- 3:21He uses people to disciple, to recruit young children, and it's been tragic to see what's
- 3:28been happening in our country over the past several decades.
- 3:31Oh, absolutely.
- 3:33You know, when you just look at the media, the media can be used for good, it can be used
- 3:39for evil.
- 3:40And of course, many uses are happening around the world.
- 3:44Of course, our children are being influenced by media more and more.
- 3:48And I'm talking about the internet, specifically, because kids have access to that where they
- 3:52didn't before.
- 3:54And so it's very, very important for parents to stay diligent, to stay aware, to be engaged
- 4:01with what their children are saying, because the enemy is there.
- 4:05And the enemy seeks to, what does he, what does he seek to do to kill and destroy?
- 4:10That's what he wants to do.
- 4:11He wants to do.
- 4:12He wants to get to kill and destroy.
- 4:14And that starts it.
- 4:15If he can destroy a kid's life, a child's life, when they're young, to they get to, they
- 4:20get to the point of being older, they feel like they have no hope.
- 4:23And so it's, it just shows the importance of reaching them at younger and younger ages.
- 4:29So friends, C E F is on Facebook, Twitter, X, Instagram, and of course, the website
- 4:35again, C E F online dot com Fred.
- 4:39I didn't realize, I knew you guys were in all 50 states.
- 4:43And in most countries, by the way, around the world.
- 4:46But I didn't realize how big C E F is becoming or has become 3,600 paid staff and tens
- 4:55of thousands of volunteers around the world.
- 4:59That's amazing.
- 5:00And it's been around since, was it 1937?
- 5:03Yes, 1937.
- 5:04So it's been 88 years.
- 5:06And you know, it's a testament to God's faithfulness to people that are committed to doing his
- 5:12work, that are called to do his work.
- 5:14We believe that's why God has blessed over these years.
- 5:17Yes, it began in small places, but it has grown here in the United States.
- 5:23And then I believe our first missionaries that we sent out went to Mexico.
- 5:27And then it's just continued to grow and grow ever since.
- 5:31And God is doing a work worldwide through C E F.
- 5:35And he deserves all the credit.
- 5:37We just are instruments.
- 5:38We are clay in the potter's hands.
- 5:40And he is, he is sought for people that have his heart like he, like he sought out David
- 5:46because of his heart.
- 5:48He's looking for people like that as well.
- 5:50And God is blessed.
- 5:51It were, we're reaching this past year.
- 5:54And I shouldn't say this past year because I know we're in 25, but in 23, 25.2 million
- 6:00boys and girls reached in face to face ministry and another 4 million through our digital
- 6:06ministries and literature.
- 6:08And so we just praise God for what he's been doing and allowing us to reach these vulnerable
- 6:14in our society.
- 6:16So Fred, we're going to talk about some of the ministries of C E F, good news clubs,
- 6:22five day clubs, some others.
- 6:25But what was the first, what, what really got childy evangelism fellowship going?
- 6:32How do they start?
- 6:33Sure.
- 6:34So we affectionately call this gentleman Mr. Oh, it's Jay Irvin overholtzer, I call him
- 6:41Mr. Oh for, of course, apparent reasons overholtzer, but yeah, overholtzer, yes, he, he didn't
- 6:49believe children could be saved initially.
- 6:51He was a pastor, didn't believe it, and he started reading Spurgeon and Moody and others
- 6:57and reading their writings and understanding that that's not what he believes.
- 7:01So he decided to do a quick test.
- 7:04He led several children to the Lord, but didn't tell anybody.
- 7:07He walked him through the gospel, we just explained the gospel the best way he could.
- 7:11And he just sat back and waited to see what would happen.
- 7:14And one of the mothers came to him at a service that he was speaking in and said, what did
- 7:20you do to my two little girls?
- 7:23And that was the beginning because that mother saw the difference that was noticeable.
- 7:29It was evident and he hadn't said anything to that mother, but the mother noticed a difference
- 7:34because the Holy Spirit had entered that life and changed those two children.
- 7:40And that was the beginning of our ministry.
- 7:42Wow.
- 7:43So now let's talk about something that allow them to think a lot of even Christians are
- 7:47not aware of that you are allowed to use the public school facilities to bring in good
- 7:55news clubs.
- 7:57And you mentioned before we got on the air, some kids go before school and then they have
- 8:03after school clubs, after hours, on the school facilities, you think, well, you know, because
- 8:08we've thought God's taken out completely.
- 8:10We can't use our tax dollars are paying for them.
- 8:12They better allow us to use the school facilities.
- 8:14Tell us about the good news clubs and how that works.
- 8:18Sure.
- 8:19The good news club, especially those that are meeting in the public school after school,
- 8:24it's a powerful program because many of those boys and girls, in fact, our statistics
- 8:28show that more than 50% of those children that attend a school-based good news club don't
- 8:34attend any church anywhere for any reason.
- 8:38And so it's a powerful place to share the gospel, the good news with children who otherwise
- 8:43wouldn't come to know the gospel because they're not walking into our churches.
- 8:48So it's a great place to go and God has opened that door for us to do that here in America.
- 8:53It is something that has been supported by the Supreme Court over and over and over again.
- 8:59We have found over and over again.
- 9:01Now do we have to continue to fight for that right?
- 9:03With some school districts, absolutely.
- 9:06I just want to case recently in the state of Hawaii and Liberty Council is a great partner
- 9:12with CEF and they've never lost one of our cases because to open that door.
- 9:19And yet the schools keep trying to do it.
- 9:20But yes, we do have the right to be there and God is blessing.
- 9:25And God's using it.
- 9:26And there is such an intolerance to the biblical worldview and that's just grown.
- 9:30But there's also an ignorance too, particularly when it comes to the First Amendment and religious
- 9:35freedom.
- 9:36And like you said, the school, the good news clubs and schools.
- 9:42What else would I see?
- 9:43We have a couple, we have several more minutes now.
- 9:46Let's talk about how people can find out if there's a chapter in their area.
- 9:51Sure.
- 9:52Just go under our website, CEFOnline.com.
- 9:55And if you go to the Ministries tab, which is right at the top of the page.
- 9:59And at the top of the page, when you click on that, just quickly scroll to the bottom of
- 10:02the page.
- 10:03And there you will find a section that says, find a chapter near you.
- 10:09And that's where you can type in, you can go there, you can type in your zip code.
- 10:14And it'll pull up the closest CEF office and we have CEF offices in every state around
- 10:19this country.
- 10:20So you can find an office close to you and you can get involved locally.
- 10:24Awesome.
- 10:25And again, friends, I mentioned the social media for Child Evangelism Fellowship, Facebook,
- 10:30Netflix, YouTube and Instagram.
- 10:34So the next one would be the 5-day club, Summers.
- 10:37You said this has been going on way before you even got involved with CEF.
- 10:41So Fred, tell us about the 5-day clubs and how parents can get maybe their kids involved.
- 10:47Sure.
- 10:485-day clubs basically happen right in the community.
- 10:51They happen in people's backyards and homes and garages on the back porch, on the back deck.
- 10:56Wherever you can gather a group of children together, that's where we want to reach
- 11:00them with the gospel.
- 11:02And so they operate there, but they operate in community centers as well in parks.
- 11:07Of course, if the weather's great, that's a great place to conduct it.
- 11:11And these are going on around the country.
- 11:14We have people that are preparing to be trained.
- 11:16We have young people that are going to be prepared to be trained.
- 11:18They're going to go to what we call Christian Youth and Action Training School.
- 11:23And that's where they will learn and learn all the little things that we employ to effectively
- 11:29share the gospel with boys and girls.
- 11:32And then they go out.
- 11:33And I tell you, it's an amazing thing to watch.
- 11:35These teenagers and young adults actually teaching the children, the children love them.
- 11:42They look up to them.
- 11:43In fact, I've heard this many, many times.
- 11:46I want to be just like them when I grow up.
- 11:48Wow.
- 11:49Now granted, I love when adults teach children too.
- 11:53And that's important as well.
- 11:54But to see these young people, these teenagers, on fire for the Lord, and to see that demonstrated
- 12:00to children, it's a powerful thing.
- 12:03And it's so great because it's not just fun and games.
- 12:08It is Bible-based truth coming right from God's Word in an exciting way that children
- 12:13just love to attend.
- 12:15They can involve in learning activities, just fun.
- 12:18And it's a great time that summer isn't wasted.
- 12:22It's a time for the scripture, for God to work as well.
- 12:26That's awesome.
- 12:27And on that same page under global impact, under the 5-day club, it says, teachers trained
- 12:33and the number is 577,000.
- 12:35Wow.
- 12:36I know you guys have been at this for a while.
- 12:40That's wonderful.
- 12:41So, Fred, if someone wants to volunteer or at least get more information, I'm sure there's
- 12:47getting involved.
- 12:48Would that be the tab to go to on the website?
- 12:51Yeah, that would give you a couple of different options.
- 12:54So yeah, visit our website.
- 12:56You can learn a lot more about the ministry.
- 12:58In fact, that's what I would like to tell your listeners.
- 13:02We could present it with a lot of good things.
- 13:05And we are all, as believers, called to the Great Commission, to fulfill the Great Commission.
- 13:11But we all don't have the same calling, specific calling, like what do we do?
- 13:15So I encourage people, first to know about CEF, to visit the website, learn all you can,
- 13:22then so know, pray, give, and go.
- 13:25So the praying part is, God, is this where you want me to serve?
- 13:29Is this what you've called me to?
- 13:30Is this what you prepared me for?
- 13:33People are wondering many times, how do I fulfill the Great Commission?
- 13:36How God's called me, but I don't know where, you know, attending church is one thing,
- 13:40but getting involved like, what do I do?
- 13:43How do I fulfill the Great Commission to go and tell people?
- 13:47So I say, pray about that.
- 13:49Is this where God's calling you?
- 13:51Maybe it is.
- 13:52And maybe it's, he yes, get involved.
- 13:54This is a great ministry.
- 13:55There's a great return on investment, but maybe it leads to giving.
- 14:00Maybe it's, okay, I can't go.
- 14:02I don't have the ability to go.
- 14:03It doesn't work in my schedule, in my family situation, whatever.
- 14:07But I can support those that will go.
- 14:10I can support sharing the gospel with boys and girls.
- 14:13So to pray, give, or excuse me, no pray, give, and then go.
- 14:17So if God's calling you to go, absolutely get involved, contact your local office, get
- 14:23involved somewhere, get trained, and we train people.
- 14:27You mentioned that over half a million teachers trained in a year.
- 14:31That's not, that's not over several years.
- 14:34That's one year.
- 14:35Oh my goodness.
- 14:36You just praise God for what he's doing.
- 14:37Wow.
- 14:38That is, well, praise God.
- 14:39We're right with you on that.
- 14:41And they've got their Facebook page.
- 14:42They've got a little video on Unite.
- 14:44We'll talk about that when we come back from our break with Fred Pry and friends again,
- 14:50it's a nonprofit.
- 14:51The website is c-e-f-online.com We'll be right back on World of View Matters.

- 16:04So we're speaking with Fred Pry here, Child Evangelism Fellowship, and I definitely want
- 16:09to get to the, I have to, I love Christmas, got to get to the Christmas Party Club.
- 16:13But first, what is Unite, Unite platforms?
- 16:18So our Unite platform is a platform design, it's a safe platform design just for, just
- 16:24for children.
- 16:25Now do teenagers go there?
- 16:26Yeah, there are some do adults go there?
- 16:28Yes, parents go there.
- 16:30But primarily it's designed for children.
- 16:32There's, there's all kinds of things, there's, there's song videos there, Christian
- 16:36song videos that teach, not just a fun, cute Christian song, but it's a song that has
- 16:42a message and it reinforces the truth of God's work.
- 16:45And then there's, there are all kinds of shorts, what we call shorts.
- 16:49There are just short videos, animated videos that are there for the children.
- 16:54Plus there's, there's actually full length movies there.
- 16:57We've partnered with the Jesus film project, a Jesus film for children.
- 17:02It's on there and many other things as well, many, from many other partners that we, we
- 17:07join with to, again, to get the gospel, the good news out to boys and girls that won't
- 17:12come to our face-to-face ministry, so there we don't have access to.
- 17:16And the exciting part is this isn't just US-based, it is US-based, excuse me, but it is reaching
- 17:23children around the world.
- 17:24In fact, some of the largest populations of children visiting our Unite platform are coming
- 17:30out of Africa.
- 17:31And it's just amazing to see what God is doing.
- 17:34Wow, that's exciting.
- 17:35And I was really thrilled to see this on your website, military children's ministry.
- 17:41Talk to us about that for a moment.
- 17:43Sure.
- 17:44MCM is just a focus of our ministry.
- 17:47We realize that these boys and girls move every two to three years with their parents.
- 17:53And they feel disconnected often.
- 17:56And so this is a great way as we get into more and more military installations with good
- 18:02news club, five day clubs, children can move and still have that familiar hourty of people
- 18:08that love and care for them in the ministry that's going on in the military installation
- 18:14nearest to them.
- 18:16But this is a great, I think we're over 30 installations right now.
- 18:20It's just amazing what God is doing, how he's reaching these children.
- 18:24And these are, these are scared children.
- 18:27Their parents are serving the military some in very dangerous locations.
- 18:32And they live with this constant fear of it's my mom or my dad not coming home.
- 18:38And this is a way that we can really disciple them, build into them, have them have a relationship
- 18:43with Christ, you know, introduce them to Christ where they can have the confidence that
- 18:47God will never leave them no matter if a parent is deployed or not.
- 18:52By the way, if you click on MCM on your website, there's an interactive map there on installations
- 18:58across the country and it looks like if every one of those green, red or blue dots are
- 19:06one of these installations, it looks like it's closer to 40 or more, wow, there's just
- 19:12a lot.
- 19:13So that's, that's really good.
- 19:15So the green ones are actually where we're currently in, and I believe the red ones if
- 19:21I remember, there's a key there, but if, if I believe, I believe the red ones are target
- 19:25or the blues target, I'm not sure, but you can look there and you can learn, hey, am I,
- 19:30am I near one?
- 19:31And by the way, people can get volunteered, volunteered to serve in the, in those as
- 19:35well, you have to jump through a few extra hoops because you actually get on these installations.
- 19:40So you have to be fingerprinted and do some other things to get there, but that's what
- 19:44our ministry can help, especially people that have served in a military, you know, what
- 19:50it's like.
- 19:51And so to ministering to those boys and girls is so impactful for them because they were
- 19:56once there.
- 19:57That's awesome.
- 19:58So Fred, now, Mary Christmas, is it too early to say Mary Christmas for the rest of
- 20:03it anyway?
- 20:04So let's talk about it.
- 20:05I think it's Christmas all the time.
- 20:06Yeah.
- 20:07Well, you know what?
- 20:08It's the true story of Christmas.
- 20:09It's, it never changes.
- 20:11That means Jesus did become flesh, dwelt among us and, you know, that's the story.
- 20:16Praise God.
- 20:18What's a Christmas party club?
- 20:19You said this is relatively new to C E F.
- 20:22Yes.
- 20:23As far as a primary ministry, yes, we've always done party clubs, but this has really become
- 20:29a focus of our ministry.
- 20:31It opens the door.
- 20:33Kids love Christmas, number one, around the world.
- 20:37That's universal.
- 20:38No matter what religion you may ascribe to, they all know what Christmas is.
- 20:44And now some families, of course, may not entertain or may not decorate or may not
- 20:49do some of the things, but everybody knows what Christmas is.
- 20:53And so it's a great opportunity to have a Christmas party club, which is just a one-time
- 20:59event.
- 21:00It's an evangelistic event that will share the gospel with a Christmas theme.
- 21:05And many times it's introducing boys and girls to the Christ of Christmas for the first
- 21:10time.
- 21:11It's not all about presents.
- 21:13It's about the Christ of Christmas.
- 21:15And so that's, it's a great time to do that.
- 21:18We even do this in what we call sensitive countries that I can't name the country.
- 21:23We call them red countries.
- 21:25So because it's dangerous to do ministry there, but we do them there.
- 21:28And we do a special type of story that's usually a child-based story, but the gospel was
- 21:36included because the child comes to know what the gospel is in the story.
- 21:42And they come to believe Christ as Savior, believe in Him and trust Him as Christ as Savior.
- 21:47So we use a child's story to give the gospel in those sensitive areas.
- 21:51Oh my goodness.
- 21:52I'm glad you're reaching children and using the Christmas party club to do that.
- 21:56But when you said, you know, it's not about presents.
- 21:59I mean, there's a lot of adults that don't know the true story of what Christmas means.
- 22:04And they think it's about presents.
- 22:06But it's not about receiving presents, but the gift, the God's free gift to us of salvation
- 22:12through Christ.
- 22:13That is a present, I guess you could say, but we call it a free gift.
- 22:17But some people think, oh, it's all about giving and whatever.
- 22:21But it is about His presence in our lives, right?
- 22:25So Fred, we're down to about five minutes.
- 22:27Is there anything you wanted to share that we didn't cover yet that you want to talk
- 22:32about child evangelism fellowship?
- 22:35I would just share with your listeners, you know, it's exciting to see what God has been
- 22:39doing in CF over these 88 years.
- 22:43And we, as an organization, we have a president who is committed to doing more.
- 22:48And we believe we're called to reach more and more children around the world.
- 22:53And the reason I bring that up is because in 2023, we reached 25.2 million boys and girls.
- 23:01And I share that number before we believe God wants us to continue to see that grow because
- 23:07there are 8 billion people in this world.
- 23:12And I believe it's two, three billion, two and a half billion children in this world.
- 23:18And we want to see more and more than come to know Christ.
- 23:21So our goal in the next few years, and we'll say 10 or 12 or 15, because we know God is
- 23:30about this work.
- 23:31And we're just following him.
- 23:33But we would like to reach 100 million boys and girls every single year.
- 23:40And of course, increase that in the future.
- 23:41But right now, I can say this, the numbers not published yet.
- 23:46So I have to be very careful in 2024.
- 23:48We grew from that 25.2.
- 23:51So I can't tell you that number because we keep that for a very special occasion.
- 23:56But it did grow in our goal this year in 2025 is 35 million boys and girls.
- 24:05And so we really want to, we're working hard, we want to grow the ministry.
- 24:11And I would just say people pray for us, get involved, get to know the ministry.
- 24:16Give if you can, it's a wonderful way to get the gospel.
- 24:20fulfill the great commission before the Lord does return.
- 24:23So Fred, before we let you go, I want to get back to the good news clubs
- 24:26for a minute and talk about the public schools.
- 24:29What a fertile ground, what, what an environment for where evangelism is needed
- 24:34and the gospel is needed desperately.
- 24:38How can maybe parents find out if there's a club that meets at their local school?
- 24:45Or do you, do some parents have Christian kids and have them attend?
- 24:53You know what I mean?
- 24:54If they're already Christian, I just tell us a little bit more about that.
- 24:57Oh, absolutely.
- 24:58It's a great place for children to be further discipled.
- 25:02Of course, even if they're going to church maybe once, you know, on the weekend.
- 25:06I mean, that's great.
- 25:08But this is a great place, especially good news club because it meets once every week as well
- 25:13and really supports what the church is already doing, what the parents are doing at home.
- 25:18Plus, yeah, hopefully, plus we encourage in our good news clubs, we have wonder devotional
- 25:23books.
- 25:24We encourage the child to spend time with God every single day as a good habit for life
- 25:31because that's where the joy comes in walking with the Lord is as we spend time with him
- 25:36every day.
- 25:37We don't ignore him.
- 25:38We spend time with him.
- 25:39So we teach boys and girls to do that and what that means is reading his word, praying,
- 25:44talking to him, allow him to speak to you and then being a witness to others as well
- 25:49as what God is teaching you.
- 25:51And so really discipling them.
- 25:52It's a great place for boys and girls to be discipled.
- 25:55So good news club is a powerful place for discipleship and it's a great place for Christian
- 26:01kids to attend.
- 26:02Plus, they can be the catalyst for inviting friends who are unsaved in their schools to
- 26:09come to school.
- 26:10So it's a great place for that to happen as well.
- 26:13Yeah, so friends, again, you can go to C-E-F-Online.com and you can find out if there's anything near
- 26:20you, find a local chapter by going down to the bottom and there's a yellow button that
- 26:24says USA, click on that and then you can enter in a search or just scroll down and find
- 26:29your state.
- 26:31But very important, that's why we wanted to have Fred come on today.
- 26:34So we're very thankful for your time, thankful for all you've been doing.
- 26:38So again, you've been with C-E-F-How many years?
- 26:41It's over 20, right?
- 26:42Yeah, it's 22 now.
- 26:4422 years.
- 26:45Wow, appreciate all the work you're doing.
- 26:48Your staff is growing and so is your influence.
- 26:51And as the gospel needs to get out there, we're thankful for your ministry brother.
- 26:56And again, friends, it's non-profit.
- 26:57So you can give if God puts that in your heart, go to the website and just scroll around
- 27:03and get more information on C-E-F.
- 27:05Thank you for your time today, Fred.
- 27:08Oh, it's been my privilege.
- 27:09All right, praise God.
- 27:12It's so exciting.
- 27:13This is encouraging just to hear about the work that they're doing and how they're reaching
- 27:16children and by the numbers too.
- 27:19It's really surprising because we tend to see all the garbage that's going on in America
- 27:24in our culture and around the country, but we forget that there are active ministries,
- 27:29great men and women of God that are teaching and training the youth and getting out there
- 27:33and the gospel is getting out.
- 27:35Thank you, Jesus.
- 27:37Friends, thank you for sharing the podcast.
- 27:39God bless you.
- 27:39And as always, keep speaking the truth about things that matter.
