- 0:15Speaker 1: Wow, you are listening to Eagles post game analysis here
- 0:24Speaker 1: at the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest running
- 0:27Speaker 1: weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world, twelve years strong.
- 0:30Speaker 1: The Philadelphia Eagles had finished Week two of this twenty
- 0:34Speaker 1: twenty five twenty twenty six season with a win at
- 0:37Speaker 1: Arrowhead in Kansas City the Kansas City Chiefs by a
- 0:41Speaker 1: score of twenty to seventeen. I cannot believe they won
- 0:44Speaker 1: this game. I'm Jeff Warren. You're at my good friend
- 0:47Speaker 1: Eric Leonard. We're gonna be breaking down this game, buddy, man.
- 0:51Speaker 1: It was. It was an interesting game, and it was
- 0:54Speaker 1: one where coming into it, I thought the Eagles were
- 0:56Speaker 1: going to lose based on and play last week against
- 1:01Speaker 1: the Dallas Cowboys. Just the fact that you know, the
- 1:04Speaker 1: Super Bowl winners, you know, facing that team that has
- 1:07Speaker 1: had their number in the past too. I figured this
- 1:11Speaker 1: is gonna be a loss. You know. Did you feel
- 1:13Speaker 1: the same way? Yeah? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Looking at the schedule for the year, I had this
- 1:20Speaker 2: one circle.
- 1:20Speaker 3: It was a definite loss because, I mean, how many
- 1:23Speaker 3: times does the team who won the Super Bowl goes
- 1:25Speaker 3: and plays the team they've just beaten that Super Bowl
- 1:28Speaker 3: but on the road where that other team's pissed off.
- 1:31Speaker 3: The crowd is wild, like the Chiefs have awesome fans.
- 1:34Speaker 3: That is a tough place to play. It was loud
- 1:36Speaker 3: as hell. They have three titles pedigree and you got
- 1:43Speaker 3: to give it to the Eagles, man, Like that is
- 1:45Speaker 3: that is a ten ton balls win to march into
- 1:49Speaker 3: that fucking place where no one expect you to win
- 1:53Speaker 3: that game. And the way you played last week against
- 1:57Speaker 3: or two weeks ago against the Cowboys, like they were okay,
- 2:00Speaker 3: but like walked away from the game like I don't know, man,
- 2:02Speaker 3: aj Brown had one reception. Yeah, don't know about the
- 2:05Speaker 3: defense because they got lit up. But the defense this game,
- 2:09Speaker 3: that was it. That was the whole story of this game.
- 2:11Speaker 3: The offense did what they had to do a couple
- 2:13Speaker 3: of touch pushes throughout the game to get first downs
- 2:15Speaker 3: in a touchdown, but like defense dominated and that's the
- 2:19Speaker 3: whole story of this game.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the biggest theme of this game. I mean
- 2:22Speaker 1: going down to even Zadarius Smith having a great game
- 2:27Speaker 1: as well in his Eagles debut, just stuff in the run,
- 2:31Speaker 1: making his presence very much known. I'm on this team
- 2:34Speaker 1: right now, Eagles. You brought me in I'm gonna be
- 2:37Speaker 1: a difference maker and I'm gonna have a positive impact.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Andrew mccooba with his interception in the fourth quarter helped
- 2:43Speaker 1: just change momentum, of course. And I'm gonna say this
- 2:46Speaker 1: about mccouba, he was so good today. Later in the game,
- 2:51Speaker 1: I would say the second half. Andrew mccooba definitely looked
- 2:53Speaker 1: like a rookie in the first half of this game
- 2:56Speaker 1: when he's not wrapping up some Chiefs offensive players, even
- 3:01Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes. You got to wrap up a quarterback like
- 3:03Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes, who's scrambling out there, and who's getting the
- 3:07Speaker 1: who's the Chiefs leading rusher today. Then mccouba comes out
- 3:11Speaker 1: in the second half, makes a great tackle to stop
- 3:14Speaker 1: a first down on the Chief's very first drive of
- 3:17Speaker 1: that second half. And you know, I think a lot
- 3:20Speaker 1: of us in general, looking at this defense coming into
- 3:24Speaker 1: the season, thought they would regress due to some talent
- 3:28Speaker 1: not being on the team anymore. Whether it was on
- 3:30Speaker 1: the defensive line, whether it was in the secondary. You
- 3:33Speaker 1: lose guys and you say, okay, certain guys need to
- 3:35Speaker 1: step up. I think a lot of us are probably
- 3:37Speaker 1: going to be wrong. Who initially thought that, Eric. I mean,
- 3:40Speaker 1: this is a legit defensive unit going to Arrowhead Stadium
- 3:44Speaker 1: on the road against this Chief's team, when you're playing
- 3:48Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes. As this team has over the past how
- 3:51Speaker 1: many five years now or whatever it's been, they've stepped
- 3:56Speaker 1: up so much. I mean, the rookies and the new
- 3:59Speaker 1: guys at key spot on defense. It's only going to
- 4:01Speaker 1: get better as a year goes on. And I think
- 4:03Speaker 1: that's one of the biggest themes of this one of
- 4:05Speaker 1: the biggest themes of this week two game.
- 4:08Speaker 3: And it's good to focus on with Cuba right now
- 4:11Speaker 3: because he kind of he represents like this is a
- 4:15Speaker 3: youngish defense, you know, Yeah, they lost some veterans and
- 4:18Speaker 3: you know, you have to give him a Cuba a
- 4:20Speaker 3: pass on the first half, this is his first road
- 4:24Speaker 3: game as an NFL player. They're going against the team
- 4:27Speaker 3: they just beat in the Super Bowl, one of the
- 4:29Speaker 3: best teams in the league. Yeah, and they're there, rackus crowd.
- 4:33Speaker 3: He was shaking the first half, but he was awesome
- 4:36Speaker 3: in the second half. Yes, and second round pick and
- 4:39Speaker 3: he just had Campbell look good again.
- 4:41Speaker 2: You just have to like give it to I'm gonna just.
- 4:44Speaker 3: I'm going to give Howie some kudos here, man, Like
- 4:47Speaker 3: the last two drafts defensively, you know, Dejeene, Mitchell and
- 4:52Speaker 3: Macuba and Campbell, like and before that, Davis and like
- 4:56Speaker 3: they just that though all those guys he just drafted. Offensively,
- 5:01Speaker 3: they dominated the game. They dominated the front. Mccouba had
- 5:05Speaker 3: that incredible interception. It was huge, turned the whole game around.
- 5:09Speaker 3: He also had a sack, I believe right on. Yeah, yeah, Like.
- 5:13Speaker 2: That's just that. That was the one question mark.
- 5:17Speaker 3: We talked about it the before the season, like the
- 5:21Speaker 3: secondary was a huge question. That was the biggest question
- 5:23Speaker 3: of the team. And they were awesome today. I mean,
- 5:25Speaker 3: Mahomes through seven seventy two passer rating ran for thirty
- 5:29Speaker 3: six yards. The rest of the team ran for what
- 5:32Speaker 3: fifty four yards? Yeah, and like passing wise, like no
- 5:37Speaker 3: one hurt them at all, Like they give it that
- 5:38Speaker 3: late touchdown, but whatever, Like it just man, the biggest
- 5:45Speaker 3: question of the year was the defense. And the offense
- 5:48Speaker 3: is going to get going. You know, we'll we'll talk
- 5:50Speaker 3: about the offensive coordinator what the hell he's doing. Yeah,
- 5:52Speaker 3: but at least the def Evangie has that defense where
- 5:55Speaker 3: it needs to be. They had a shaky first game
- 5:57Speaker 3: the Carter was out, but like to know the defense
- 6:00Speaker 3: is probably in good shape makes me feel so much
- 6:03Speaker 3: better as an Eagles fans going further.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Absolutely absolutely look at look. I mean even we were
- 6:09Speaker 1: feeling uncertainty about the defensive line, but then you have
- 6:14Speaker 1: Jordan Davis absolutely stepping up in a big way with
- 6:17Speaker 1: five total tackles on the game and two passes defended,
- 6:20Speaker 1: getting his hands up there, getting his hands on the ball,
- 6:23Speaker 1: getting into the backfield consistently throughout this game. And of
- 6:27Speaker 1: course you've got a Jalen Carter his first game of
- 6:32Speaker 1: the season, just he's wreaking havoc even with an arm injury.
- 6:37Speaker 1: The Nolan Smith as well. I mean, we've got to
- 6:40Speaker 1: talk about Nolan Smith. How freaking awesome. Look he blew
- 6:46Speaker 1: up the Chiefs fourth and one attempt from Kansas City's
- 6:49Speaker 1: own thirty six yard line as they were starting the
- 6:51Speaker 1: second half. He is becoming a violent and strong player
- 6:56Speaker 1: who is able to set the edge and consistently doing that.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Nolan's Smith is going to be one of the top
- 7:02Speaker 1: pass rushers and defensive linemen in this league in the
- 7:05Speaker 1: very near few drums. I'm almost positive of that.
- 7:07Speaker 3: And and no free agents. It's all the guys they
- 7:09Speaker 3: drafted like homegrown.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Yep.
- 7:11Speaker 2: And here's the thing.
- 7:13Speaker 3: I've always been a big like the early nineties Eagles,
- 7:17Speaker 3: late late eighties, Like the defense was always my favorite,
- 7:20Speaker 3: loved Randall, but like dominant, mean defenses I've just always
- 7:25Speaker 3: been in love with as an Eagles fan.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Yeah, this defense is mean. They're nasty, like they don't
- 7:30Speaker 1: take shit.
- 7:30Speaker 3: I don't know if you saw the footage that came
- 7:32Speaker 3: out like two weeks ago, ge Hot Campbell not Campbell, sorry,
- 7:35Speaker 3: Nolan Smith, he was interviewed about when he got hurt
- 7:39Speaker 3: in the Super Bowl. Yeah, and the guy that the
- 7:42Speaker 3: trainer was like, no, you're done for the day, and
- 7:44Speaker 3: he was.
- 7:44Speaker 2: He just goes, who the.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Fuck are you talking to? Go get a fucking go,
- 7:49Speaker 3: get a fucking brace. I'm going out.
- 7:53Speaker 2: I saw that.
- 7:53Speaker 1: I'm like, whoa, this team? This team is mean, Yes,
- 7:57Speaker 1: and the perfect defensive coordinator for it. And uh, it
- 8:00Speaker 1: just makes me so happy he's an Eagles fan because
- 8:02Speaker 1: as the offense gets going, it's definitely chugging along.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Rank God for Saquon, Please stay healthy, Saquon. Yes, beyond that,
- 8:10Speaker 3: they really had nothing today besides like Demante Smith had
- 8:12Speaker 3: a great catch, but not much there. And I mean
- 8:16Speaker 3: Dallas Goddters return will kind of spark the offense a
- 8:19Speaker 3: little more. But that defense is mean and they actually
- 8:23Speaker 3: they totally dominated the game and they're the whole reason
- 8:25Speaker 3: the team won today.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's great to give Patrick Mahomes his third
- 8:30Speaker 1: straight loss in a row. It's the first time since
- 8:33Speaker 1: he was at Texas Tech where he's actually had three
- 8:36Speaker 1: straight games for a loss. And yes, he was putting
- 8:40Speaker 1: this Chiefs team on his shoulders. But it's interesting if
- 8:43Speaker 1: you go back and listen to the Opposition Territory show
- 8:47Speaker 1: and the pregame preview show, it we were talking about
- 8:52Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes, is he able at this point in his
- 8:54Speaker 1: career to put the entire team on his shoulders and
- 8:57Speaker 1: come out victorious? And our yes actually was saying, you know,
- 9:01Speaker 1: I don't know if that's really possible anymore. We saw
- 9:05Speaker 1: that today. I mean Patrick Mahomes only, like you mentioned Eric,
- 9:08Speaker 1: only one hundred and eighty seven yards. He averaged six
- 9:10Speaker 1: point four yards per attempt. Yes, he did throw a touchdown,
- 9:13Speaker 1: it was a huge bomb to Taekwon Thornton, but still
- 9:19Speaker 1: it's he he did not have the type of game
- 9:22Speaker 1: where he was able to put the team on his shoulders. Yes,
- 9:25Speaker 1: they do not have a lot of weaponry right now
- 9:29Speaker 1: with Rashie Rice and with e Xavier Worthy not being
- 9:34Speaker 1: out on the field with injuries. But I think this
- 9:37Speaker 1: is a pivotal moment, you know, for the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 9:40Speaker 1: I don't think even Patrick Mahomes scoring a touch a
- 9:43Speaker 1: rushing touchdown, having sixty six yards on the ground on
- 9:47Speaker 1: seven carries is able to really put this team on
- 9:50Speaker 1: his shoulders anymore. We could be seeing that transition here starting.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Here's a big thing I noticed the off season. They
- 9:58Speaker 3: revamped their offensive line the Chiefs after they got walloped
- 10:01Speaker 3: in the Super Bowl. Everyone talked about one stronger it
- 10:03Speaker 3: was going to be. And when the Chiefs were really good,
- 10:06Speaker 3: they were able to run the ball too to relief
- 10:09Speaker 3: the pressure off of ma Homes so you can make
- 10:11Speaker 3: the passes. And man, I haven't seen that yet last
- 10:15Speaker 3: week or this week from them at all. And you know,
- 10:18Speaker 3: the Chargers probably have a really good defense. Is only
- 10:20Speaker 3: one game and they shut the run running game down
- 10:23Speaker 3: and we did too, like just stomp the rushing attack whatsoever,
- 10:28Speaker 3: And like they need that to keep like they have
- 10:31Speaker 3: enough weapons. I don't want to hear about the Rashie
- 10:33Speaker 3: Rice saver Worthy thing, Like you have weapons there, and
- 10:37Speaker 3: you've won three Super Bowls with like not the greatest
- 10:40Speaker 3: weapons in the world.
- 10:42Speaker 2: You can't run the ball.
- 10:43Speaker 3: And maybe it's the teams you were playing, but the
- 10:46Speaker 3: Eagles absolutely shut the run down and that was the
- 10:49Speaker 3: whole game because he had no one to throw to.
- 10:52Speaker 3: But he has web so they might be in a
- 10:54Speaker 3: lot of trouble. Like that's the That was one of
- 10:56Speaker 3: my takeaways from the game, Like, yeah, this is not
- 10:59Speaker 3: the che but you know they might win five street
- 11:01Speaker 3: who they all knows, Yeah exactly, because exactly, But like
- 11:04Speaker 3: you know, if they can't run the ball, they're in deep,
- 11:07Speaker 3: deep shit without those two receivers. Let's move over to
- 11:10Speaker 3: the Eagles offense now, Eric, because that's another theme of
- 11:13Speaker 3: this game. I holy cow, Kevin Petulu.
- 11:16Speaker 1: His passing game, the passing game that we saw from
- 11:20Speaker 1: him and the play calling from him was very reminiscent
- 11:23Speaker 1: of the Philadelphia Eagles passing game offense from back in
- 11:26Speaker 1: twenty twenty three, which wasn't a lot of fun to
- 11:29Speaker 1: watch at all. I mean, the passing concepts that he
- 11:33Speaker 1: was instituting throughout this game and even last week against
- 11:35Speaker 1: the Cowboys. They're not highlighting the talent on this team
- 11:39Speaker 1: and you have AJ Brown DeVante Smith. The Chiefs defense
- 11:42Speaker 1: was blitzing the hell out of Jalen Hurts. I know
- 11:45Speaker 1: at halftime it was by at sixty three percent of
- 11:48Speaker 1: snaps they were blitzing him. And you don't have a
- 11:52Speaker 1: wide receiver on a hot route somewhere, Like, what the
- 11:54Speaker 1: hell is going on? What are we doing? At the half?
- 11:56Speaker 1: The Eagles offense of main players in Hurts, bark and
- 12:00Speaker 1: AJ Brown. Jalen Hurts was twelve to seventeen for sixty
- 12:03Speaker 1: two yards three point six yards per attempt. Barkley had
- 12:07Speaker 1: six carries for thirty yards and a touchdown, but AJ
- 12:10Speaker 1: Brown had seven targets at the half, five receptions and
- 12:14Speaker 1: you're like, oh, all right, yeah, I like that, but
- 12:17Speaker 1: for twenty seven yards, Like what the hell are we
- 12:20Speaker 1: doing here? Like what type of route concepts are you
- 12:23Speaker 1: coming up with and instituting during the game? AJ Brown?
- 12:27Speaker 1: He had five point four yards per reception in this game.
- 12:30Speaker 1: That's unacceptable to me, who's a fan of this team
- 12:34Speaker 1: and this offense. Who has the capability of putting up
- 12:37Speaker 1: some huge yards and yes they won the game. I'm
- 12:40Speaker 1: complaining about this, but if it's persistent, teams are going
- 12:44Speaker 1: to start realizing it, understanding it, knowing how to defend
- 12:48Speaker 1: the Eagles better than the Chiefs did. And you know,
- 12:51Speaker 1: one hundred and one yards of passing by Jalen Hurts
- 12:54Speaker 1: isn't gonna get it done. So I the offense was sputtering,
- 12:59Speaker 1: and again I really blame Kevin Petulo for this, this
- 13:04Speaker 1: very lackluster and vanilla type of offense that we saw.
- 13:07Speaker 1: I don't know, it kind of just sucked watching it.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Yeah, at one point, Tom Brady said, who's by the way,
- 13:13Speaker 3: I when are we gonna?
- 13:15Speaker 2: When are we all gonna?
- 13:16Speaker 1: Just he ain't going anywhere. I'll tell you that he is.
- 13:21Speaker 3: It's really embarrassing it. Greg Olsen did the Cowboys Giants game.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Yeah he's awesome, but he is miles ahead of Brady.
- 13:30Speaker 3: In your feature Game of the Week, you bring out
- 13:32Speaker 3: this friggin this mannikin in a suit like his forehead
- 13:38Speaker 3: doesn't move, his hair is obviously Karioki fake, and it's
- 13:41Speaker 3: just it's just but he's but he what he says
- 13:45Speaker 3: matches his look he's just like, oh my god, yes, anyway,
- 13:50Speaker 3: but he did say at one point it's like A J.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Brown has run the same slant route like eight times
- 13:55Speaker 3: this quarter.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Yes, and I'm like.
- 13:59Speaker 2: A round was a beast last year? Yes, like one time,
- 14:03Speaker 2: send them like or post route.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Yeah, you might get you might get a p I
- 14:08Speaker 1: on the defender, like just send them, but like one
- 14:12Speaker 1: yard slant, you know, five yard catch like the whole game,
- 14:15Speaker 1: Like what are we doing? Pooh pool Lou Yeah, like yeah,
- 14:19Speaker 1: all right, but.
- 14:20Speaker 3: No, it is very vanilla. And last week I did think, okay,
- 14:24Speaker 3: well they got the Cowboys at home, they're probably gonna win.
- 14:26Speaker 3: The offense was kind of kind of playing because they're
- 14:30Speaker 3: saving things up for the Chiefs game because Amy Reid
- 14:32Speaker 3: is a master like play like playmaker like before a game,
- 14:36Speaker 3: like he has a nice like uh script yeah to
- 14:40Speaker 3: every game. And Poopoola came out and just did the
- 14:44Speaker 3: same ship as last week. Yes, without the toush push.
- 14:47Speaker 3: They lose this game by what seven ten points?
- 14:50Speaker 1: Probably?
- 14:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it it's his second game. I'm willing
- 14:54Speaker 3: to wait, but like if by week four we're doing
- 14:57Speaker 3: the same shit, I'm like, okay, what what's what's happening?
- 15:00Speaker 2: This is not good?
- 15:01Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, look, they did what they needed to do
- 15:04Speaker 1: to win in this game at the end of the day.
- 15:06Speaker 1: But I mean, I'm I think it was the very
- 15:10Speaker 1: first play of the game they had Grant cal Katara
- 15:13Speaker 1: was absolutely toasted as a pass blocker. They opened up
- 15:18Speaker 1: the game in twelve personnel. There's two tight ends out
- 15:21Speaker 1: there blocking. I'm not sure, you know. I'm thinking to myself,
- 15:24Speaker 1: why are you leaning into these heavy tight end sets
- 15:28Speaker 1: with Dallas Goddard being out Because Grant cal Katara and
- 15:31Speaker 1: Kylon Granson they're not strong blockers at all. We know this.
- 15:34Speaker 1: In fact, Grant cal Katara really stinks with his pass
- 15:37Speaker 1: blocking and you're going to open up the game in
- 15:39Speaker 1: twelve personnel like that. I was just very like, it's baffling.
- 15:43Speaker 1: And yes, I'm I'm a coach on my couch watching
- 15:47Speaker 1: this and thinking this stuff, you know, but it's they
- 15:50Speaker 1: definitely need to make some adjustments. So do you have
- 15:52Speaker 1: anything else for the offense? Buddy? I just want to
- 15:54Speaker 1: talk about special teams before we go to the break
- 15:55Speaker 1: and before we get into our grades, But do you
- 15:58Speaker 1: have anything else for the offense? Well?
- 16:00Speaker 3: As a fellow bird chess and cinemastick leg person You
- 16:04Speaker 3: go twelve man personnel and your two tight ends are
- 16:08Speaker 3: like six two two hundred.
- 16:11Speaker 2: I know they're bigger than that, but.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Like, yeah, why that's.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Not that's not their forte I don't like that. I
- 16:17Speaker 3: don't like that at all. I noticed two Yeah.
- 16:21Speaker 1: All right, folks, Well before we go to break, I
- 16:23Speaker 1: just wanted to mention special teams we get to the grades, like, man,
- 16:26Speaker 1: I am going to be I am going to be
- 16:28Speaker 1: glowing about special teams. You've got Braden Man who is
- 16:33Speaker 1: what a fantastic punter. He had a seventy yard punt
- 16:36Speaker 1: in the first court. I could not believe that seventy
- 16:40Speaker 1: yard punt. It was consistently put in the Chiefs deep
- 16:43Speaker 1: in their territory, you know, after you know, several Eagles
- 16:47Speaker 1: drives ended up stalling fifty eight yard field goal by
- 16:51Speaker 1: Jake Elliott right before the half. Last season, he was
- 16:54Speaker 1: one of seven from fifty plus yards as we all remember.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Right now this season he is three for three. Jake
- 17:01Speaker 1: Elliott is back, for sure, he's back. So I just
- 17:05Speaker 1: wanted to mention, uh mentioned that. I mean, special teams
- 17:08Speaker 1: are going to get a glowing grade for me, well
- 17:10Speaker 1: in a three point game.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Special teams are gigantic and Jake Elliott man just just
- 17:16Speaker 3: the man. Like, Yes, had a rough season last year,
- 17:19Speaker 3: killed it in the playoffs. So far this year he's
- 17:21Speaker 3: killing it again.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Yep.
- 17:22Speaker 3: And that seventy yard punt actually like was one of
- 17:25Speaker 3: the probably top five or six plays of the game
- 17:28Speaker 3: because it was a field goal or a field position
- 17:30Speaker 3: kind of game and he buried them on a seventy yarder. Yes,
- 17:34Speaker 3: and yeah, I special, like just surprising, like because Jake
- 17:42Speaker 3: Elliot's probably at that point in his career were like,
- 17:45Speaker 3: should we start looking younger? We started finding somebody else
- 17:47Speaker 3: and like man and I don't know where the hell
- 17:50Speaker 3: they find Brandon.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Man by the way, I know. Yeah, yes, amazing, amazing play.
- 17:56Speaker 1: So all right, folks, we are going to take a break,
- 17:59Speaker 1: and when we get we're gonna grade each unit as
- 18:02Speaker 1: we always do. Stick with us. All right, we are
- 18:06Speaker 1: back and we're gonna dive into our grades. We're gonna
- 18:08Speaker 1: start off with the quarterback position. Jalen Hurts fifteen of
- 18:13Speaker 1: twenty two for one hundred and one yards. As we
- 18:16Speaker 1: mentioned earlier, four point six yards per attempt. He ended
- 18:19Speaker 1: with a rating of seventy eight. I'm giving Jalen Hurts
- 18:22Speaker 1: a C plus this week. This goes to what we
- 18:25Speaker 1: were talking about with Kevin Patulo his game calling. But
- 18:29Speaker 1: then again, we did see Jalen Hurts holding onto the ball.
- 18:33Speaker 1: A lot of guys lot these wide receivers were not
- 18:35Speaker 1: able to get open for whatever reason. Again, I think
- 18:38Speaker 1: it's more play concepts and route concepts I should say,
- 18:42Speaker 1: But Jalen Hurts, I'm gonna give him C plus. Could
- 18:45Speaker 1: be a B minus around there. I don't know what
- 18:46Speaker 1: are you giving Hurts. I think I'm being too tough
- 18:48Speaker 1: on him.
- 18:49Speaker 3: I'd say it B minus just because the whole toush
- 18:51Speaker 3: push things saved the entire game and it's all on him, you.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Know, Like well the offensive line though too, I mean
- 18:56Speaker 1: the offensive line.
- 18:57Speaker 3: Yeah, but he just can't fumble it, and like he's
- 19:00Speaker 3: the one that squats five hundred pounds or whatever. Yes,
- 19:04Speaker 3: And honestly, I think he's hamstrung by the offensive courting
- 19:07Speaker 3: right now. Like I think he's still trying to figure
- 19:08Speaker 3: out what the hell this guy wants because he was
- 19:11Speaker 3: so much more fluid last year offensively, him and the
- 19:14Speaker 3: receivers were on the same page all the time. For
- 19:17Speaker 3: the most part this year, they look like they've never
- 19:20Speaker 3: played together so far. But again, I give me week
- 19:25Speaker 3: four or five until I'm in panic mode, like what
- 19:28Speaker 3: the fuck are we doing?
- 19:29Speaker 2: Offensively?
- 19:29Speaker 1: YEA, so okay. Running back position Saquon Barkley twenty two
- 19:33Speaker 1: carries for eighty eight yards, average four yards per carry,
- 19:36Speaker 1: one touchdown. AJ Dillon ended up getting three carries for
- 19:40Speaker 1: nineteen yards. He averaged six point three yards per carry.
- 19:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna give the running backs because they did what
- 19:45Speaker 1: they needed to do in this game. I'm gonna give
- 19:48Speaker 1: him a B plus. What do you get could be
- 19:49Speaker 1: an A minus. They did what they should should have
- 19:52Speaker 1: done in this game, so I'll probably just go B plus.
- 19:55Speaker 1: What do you give them?
- 19:56Speaker 2: Same thing?
- 19:57Speaker 3: I mean, offensive line played well and and honestly, they
- 20:02Speaker 3: might get an A minus just because like they got
- 20:05Speaker 3: no help from the receivers at all, whether that be
- 20:07Speaker 3: due to the play calling or hurts or whatever. But
- 20:11Speaker 3: like Saquon again, like along with the defense, was pretty
- 20:15Speaker 3: much Saquon and the defense to save this game, along
- 20:17Speaker 3: with the hurts to push Yep, you know that that
- 20:21Speaker 3: that that first touchdown he had was a little bit
- 20:23Speaker 3: of a backbreaker for case. I felt the crowd kind
- 20:27Speaker 3: of I was outside grilling. I had the speaker way
- 20:29Speaker 3: up high, and the whole the end of the game
- 20:32Speaker 3: was like the Saquon scored that that touchdown and it
- 20:36Speaker 3: kind of went a little bit just defloided him kind
- 20:39Speaker 3: of even and out, and after that it was like
- 20:42Speaker 3: it was a game, and the crowd never super got
- 20:44Speaker 3: back into it.
- 20:45Speaker 2: So like I'll give him an a minus because it.
- 20:48Speaker 1: All right, that's fair, that's fair, all right. Wide receivers
- 20:50Speaker 1: Davante Smith six targets on the day, came down with
- 20:53Speaker 1: four balls for fifty three yards. He had the long
- 20:55Speaker 1: twenty eight yarder, which was a fantastic in terms of
- 20:59Speaker 1: just looking for the ball coming down with that catch.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Should have been a penalty by the way the way
- 21:04Speaker 1: he was tackled on that. I just wanted to say
- 21:05Speaker 1: that ref's missing a lot of different penalties in this
- 21:08Speaker 1: game on both sides of the ball. Officiating was absolutely horrendous.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Aj Brown eight targets, five balls for twenty seven yards
- 21:17Speaker 1: five point four yards per reception. Grant Calcatara was targeted twice.
- 21:21Speaker 1: He came down with one ball. Saquon Barkley targeted twice
- 21:23Speaker 1: as well. He had some other receivers with one target,
- 21:27Speaker 1: Kylon Grantson, Johan Dotson, John Mitchi as well, doing a
- 21:32Speaker 1: whole lot of nothing. I'm not sure why how he
- 21:34Speaker 1: trades for wide receivers who he doesn't get, who aren't
- 21:37Speaker 1: really involved in the game, Johan Dotson and John Metchi
- 21:40Speaker 1: or two of those guys, but wide receivers this week,
- 21:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna give them a C. I really want to
- 21:47Speaker 1: see and I do this every week, you know. I
- 21:50Speaker 1: go back and watch and find on YouTube, find some
- 21:52Speaker 1: tape and some video of the game. I want to
- 21:56Speaker 1: see if these wide receivers weren't able to get open,
- 21:59Speaker 1: if they were been and again the route concepts that
- 22:03Speaker 1: Kevin Petulo was implementing during the game. I'm not too
- 22:07Speaker 1: sure what's going on here. These numbers are not great
- 22:10Speaker 1: by any stretch. That's why I'm gonna give them a
- 22:12Speaker 1: C plus. What do you give them.
- 22:14Speaker 2: D plus?
- 22:15Speaker 3: I mean, poopool hole did not give him much to
- 22:18Speaker 3: work with, But you would think like at least one
- 22:22Speaker 3: of those like seven or eight slants that aj Brown ran,
- 22:25Speaker 3: he could break one for twenty some yards.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I don't know.
- 22:28Speaker 3: Maybe they were played because I mean, was Hurts really
- 22:32Speaker 3: under any any pressure. That game didn't seem like it.
- 22:34Speaker 3: They they seemed like they weren't blitzing them a lot. Yeah,
- 22:37Speaker 3: but but but they were when they weren't blitzing, you know,
- 22:39Speaker 3: they were they were all over the receivers because the
- 22:41Speaker 3: receivers killed them. Yeah the Super Bowl. But like didn't
- 22:46Speaker 3: see much h D plus just because almost like an
- 22:49Speaker 3: incomplete grade, you know. But again, like let's let's see
- 22:53Speaker 3: if we can like air it out next week, Like
- 22:55Speaker 3: is the Rams secondary solid or can we like attack it?
- 22:59Speaker 3: I No, no, but like very boring the first two
- 23:04Speaker 3: weeks for the for the receivers, like really.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Absolutely yeah, absolutely, all right, let's move to the offensive line.
- 23:10Speaker 1: I'm gonna give them in a minus. I would say
- 23:14Speaker 1: it would have been a straight up A or a
- 23:15Speaker 1: plus quite frankly. But there were some penalties and Landon
- 23:20Speaker 1: Dickerson held up and that again, that was a theme
- 23:23Speaker 1: that we were going into this week. Can he hold
- 23:25Speaker 1: up because he is such an integral part of this
- 23:28Speaker 1: offensive line? I mean, all five guys certainly are, but
- 23:31Speaker 1: Landon Dickerson held up didn't come out of the game.
- 23:33Speaker 1: I'm given the offensive line and a minus. What do
- 23:35Speaker 1: you give them?
- 23:37Speaker 3: Yeah, same grade. They they kept hurts up upright for
- 23:42Speaker 3: most of the can't think only Yeah, they one sack
- 23:44Speaker 3: the Chiefs pretty much two sacks, two sacks, okay, But
- 23:47Speaker 3: he wasn't he wasn't under a lot of pressure.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Yep.
- 23:50Speaker 3: And even when they blitzed like I mean two sacks
- 23:53Speaker 3: and like that, that defensive coordinator he likes to blitz
- 23:56Speaker 3: like crazy, yep, to hold them in two sacks and uh,
- 24:01Speaker 3: he was never really under a ton of pressure. And
- 24:03Speaker 3: the running game was pretty much the only thing they had,
- 24:06Speaker 3: you know, going on offensively. And you're right about Landon Dickerson.
- 24:10Speaker 3: When I heard his name called in the first quarter,
- 24:12Speaker 3: they made a nice block. I was like, thank god
- 24:14Speaker 3: he's playing. Yeah, I know, because he's he's he's been
- 24:17Speaker 3: dinged up. He got dinged up last week. He was
- 24:21Speaker 3: holding his back like I thought he was paralyzed.
- 24:24Speaker 2: He was over.
- 24:25Speaker 1: He had that back. He's had that back injur recent
- 24:27Speaker 1: the preseason.
- 24:28Speaker 2: So yeah, and he is the same metallity as a defense.
- 24:30Speaker 2: He's just a dog.
- 24:31Speaker 3: He's an asshole, yes, and he just refuses to go out.
- 24:34Speaker 3: That's right now. Like, that's why this team's winning, honestly
- 24:37Speaker 3: on toughness. He loves his John Deer tractor.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Tell you that. All right, let's move to the defense.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Defensive line. I mean, you're you're putting pressure on Patrick
- 24:48Speaker 1: Mahomes and yes, unfortunately he's getting out of the pocket
- 24:50Speaker 1: rushing for sixty six yards. He was their leading rusher.
- 24:53Speaker 1: But like, overall, I mean, you have two sacks and
- 24:56Speaker 1: one of those was Andrew mccouba. So that wasn't even
- 24:59Speaker 1: the D line right there. The D line allowed for
- 25:01Speaker 1: Andrew mccoob. But to get that sack, I think it
- 25:04Speaker 1: was a fantastic game from the defensive line overall, just
- 25:07Speaker 1: getting in the backfield, pressure, pressure, pressure on Mahomes. I'm
- 25:11Speaker 1: giving them. I'm giving them an A. What do you
- 25:13Speaker 1: give them this week? It's an A?
- 25:15Speaker 3: And the game that Jailing Carter had was a classic.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Like back in the late eighties early nineties, like Jerome
- 25:21Speaker 3: Brown used to have games where he had three tackles
- 25:24Speaker 3: and no sacks. But if you watch the game, you're like, well,
- 25:28Speaker 3: he was the whole reason Clyde Simmons had two sacks.
- 25:31Speaker 2: He's the whole reason. Mike Pitts had a sack.
- 25:34Speaker 3: Like they put all the they put all the attention
- 25:35Speaker 3: on him, and Jaalen Carter just blew up the middle
- 25:38Speaker 3: allowed Jordan Davis to attack. Yep, Like again to Howie,
- 25:43Speaker 3: how the hell did we get Zadarius Smith signed?
- 25:47Speaker 2: And I watched football.
- 25:48Speaker 3: I'm like, there's teams that have no pressure at all,
- 25:51Speaker 3: like the like the bad teams. How is he not
- 25:55Speaker 3: signed as a veteran to bring in? Like I again,
- 25:59Speaker 3: one of those names. You're like, he should be on
- 26:01Speaker 3: a team. How did how we do this? Like I know, yeah,
- 26:05Speaker 3: Like the the defensive line set the entire tone for
- 26:08Speaker 3: the entire game, and I it's the strength of our
- 26:12Speaker 3: team right now, big by far.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Look, there were ten quarterback hits by the Eagles in
- 26:18Speaker 1: this game, the majority coming from the defensive line. You
- 26:21Speaker 1: had Jalen Carter with three, Moro Ojomo with two, Zadarius
- 26:25Speaker 1: Smith had one, Zach Bond had one. He's linebacker two.
- 26:29Speaker 1: But like Jihad Campbell had won as well, Jylex Hunt
- 26:32Speaker 1: had a quarterback hit. Like there are ten total quarterback hits.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes is gonna be feeling something tomorrow. You know
- 26:37Speaker 1: He's not gonna be feeling too good, and this defensive
- 26:40Speaker 1: line is the reason why. And think about it, they
- 26:43Speaker 1: lost pretty much three starters from last year's team. Yeah,
- 26:46Speaker 1: you know with Josh Sweat, Milton Williams and Brandon Graham.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Brandon Graham, you know, like they lost like Josh Sweat
- 26:54Speaker 1: was there their ace, the guy that goes against the sacks.
- 26:57Speaker 1: And and they also lost what's his face that never
- 27:01Speaker 1: played last year?
- 27:02Speaker 3: Yes, like that was for defensive linemen and they haven't
- 27:05Speaker 3: lost a beat and in fact, they're like nastier so far.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Far.
- 27:09Speaker 1: I mean No one's fifth and g Hot Campbell on
- 27:12Speaker 1: either end good luck, I know, with those two guys
- 27:16Speaker 1: in the middle blasting the middle of your line, and
- 27:18Speaker 1: those two come in like like maniacs, and then you
- 27:20Speaker 1: bring the Kouba on a blitz from the from the back.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Jesus Christ, I know I'd be scared if I was
- 27:26Speaker 2: an offensive coordinator.
- 27:28Speaker 1: We should also be scared of the linebackers, so let's
- 27:30Speaker 1: grade them, or I should say teams should be scared
- 27:32Speaker 1: of the linebackers because I mean, holy cow, Zach baughn
- 27:36Speaker 1: another great day as always, and uh Gihad Campbell as well.
- 27:41Speaker 1: These guys are fantastic. The linebacker corps is actually actually
- 27:47Speaker 1: a positive on this team, like like significantly, as we know,
- 27:52Speaker 1: I'm gonna give the linebackers an A this week.
- 27:53Speaker 2: What do you give them ohn a? I mean the
- 27:56Speaker 2: whole defense is going to get an a.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:59Speaker 3: And for years, you know, like Eagles were renowned for
- 28:02Speaker 3: like we don't need linebackers. It's stupid, right, but they
- 28:06Speaker 3: won the Super Bowl in twenty seventeen. The linebackers were awesome.
- 28:10Speaker 3: Just remember that, and now now they're like to I
- 28:13Speaker 3: think we talked about in the off season, like what
- 28:16Speaker 3: are the keys to Eagle success in this offseason? Like
- 28:20Speaker 3: you had on the list Zach Bond being resigned, and
- 28:22Speaker 3: I think I said Josh Sweat was more important. I'm
- 28:25Speaker 3: wrong because I'm an idiot. Zach Bond is so key
- 28:29Speaker 3: to this defense and everything Fangio wants to do. He
- 28:31Speaker 3: holds he holds everything up in the middle and again
- 28:35Speaker 3: allowed like your middle.
- 28:37Speaker 2: Is Bond, Davis and Carter.
- 28:39Speaker 3: Yeah that just man, I don't know what you do
- 28:42Speaker 3: as an offense, Like I know Cowboys like blew up,
- 28:45Speaker 3: but I want to see it next week with the Rams,
- 28:48Speaker 3: like I know, I know they're going to be out
- 28:49Speaker 3: for revenge because it's the you know, we beat him
- 28:51Speaker 3: in the playoffs. But for Becks thirty six, he's a
- 28:54Speaker 3: bad back.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Yep.
- 28:55Speaker 2: I wouldn't want to play this defense third week at home.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Yeah yeah. Moving over to the secondary in terms of
- 29:02Speaker 1: the grades, Eric, I'm actually gonna give this secondary an
- 29:04Speaker 1: A minus. And that's that's saying a lot given given
- 29:08Speaker 1: Quinnon Mitchell giving up that touchdown pass, even though I
- 29:13Speaker 1: don't think it was his fault. I think Reid Blank
- 29:15Speaker 1: and Ship probably should have stayed with uh with Thornton,
- 29:20Speaker 1: I have to, I'm gonna go back and look at that.
- 29:22Speaker 1: But overall, the secondary performed pretty damn well. And of course,
- 29:26Speaker 1: when you have Andrew mccooba doing what he did in
- 29:28Speaker 1: this game, specifically second half, I'm gonna give this this
- 29:31Speaker 1: unit an A minus. What do you give them an A?
- 29:35Speaker 2: Like?
- 29:36Speaker 3: I mean, you take away that Thornton, You take away
- 29:39Speaker 3: that Thornton touchdown. I think that was Blake and Ship's
- 29:41Speaker 3: cover screw up, but yeah whatever, Like how many yards
- 29:46Speaker 3: was that for? Thornton's forty nine yards? It was forty
- 29:49Speaker 3: nine yard touchdown? Yeah, take that away? And Homes threw
- 29:52Speaker 3: for what one?
- 29:53Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 29:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it was it was a broken broken
- 29:56Speaker 3: coverage got the touchdown, but like at that point you
- 29:59Speaker 3: had the game kind of and wrapped up. But again
- 30:01Speaker 3: take that away and yep, Mahomes was shitty, like just
- 30:05Speaker 3: flat out it was not great.
- 30:07Speaker 1: Not great at all. All right, Well, let's grade the
- 30:11Speaker 1: coaches here, and we'll start with special teams. Like I
- 30:15Speaker 1: mentioned earlier with Jake Elliott three of three from fifty
- 30:19Speaker 1: plus yards this season, you've got your punter punting seventy
- 30:23Speaker 1: yard or I'm giving them an A plus. Special teams
- 30:26Speaker 1: gets an A plus this week.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Yeah, it's an A plus. It's not even close.
- 30:29Speaker 1: Yeah. Defensive coaching, I mean, holy cow, we've got We
- 30:34Speaker 1: just talked about how this was the defensive game. This
- 30:36Speaker 1: is a plus completely yeah plus. Yep, yeah, not much
- 30:40Speaker 1: else we can say. Oh, all right now, Kevin Patulo
- 30:43Speaker 1: and Nick Sirianni. With the offense, I am going to
- 30:46Speaker 1: be going with a C minus on this one here,
- 30:50Speaker 1: and it could it could be a D plus, but
- 30:52Speaker 1: again I want to I just want to start seeing
- 30:55Speaker 1: something else. I want to start seeing more juice. Next
- 30:57Speaker 1: week against the Rams, they're getting a C minus. They
- 31:00Speaker 1: did with what this team has in terms of talent,
- 31:04Speaker 1: they did enough to not only survive, but to get
- 31:07Speaker 1: by on the road. Yes, there's something to say about
- 31:10Speaker 1: that as well. But the defense kept you in the game.
- 31:13Speaker 1: They were the dominant unit. I think it's C minus
- 31:17Speaker 1: for me in terms of the In terms of the
- 31:19Speaker 1: offensive coaching, what do you what do you give Pa
- 31:20Speaker 1: Toolo and Sirianni here, Well.
- 31:23Speaker 3: I'm gonna split the grade. Buttila gets a D plus.
- 31:25Speaker 3: Hated the offensive play calling Sirian Sirianni B plus. I
- 31:32Speaker 3: like the challenge call. He's in charge of the whole thing.
- 31:35Speaker 3: He's proven, like he's not just a coordinator coach. Yeah, Doug,
- 31:40Speaker 3: dougp was I think I think last week and this
- 31:44Speaker 3: week going on the road and beating Andy Reid in
- 31:47Speaker 3: their house with that defense and the offense was kind
- 31:50Speaker 3: of was was was flaccid, like he's he's he's probably
- 31:55Speaker 3: a top three or.
- 31:56Speaker 1: Four coach in the NFL right now. Yeah, which a
- 31:58Speaker 1: couple of years ago, I'm like, yeah, might this guy
- 32:01Speaker 1: might get fired? Like ship, Yeah we three last year.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Everybody was like he should probably be fired at this point. Yeah,
- 32:07Speaker 1: you know, he's he's toned down the rhetoric.
- 32:09Speaker 3: He's I mean he's still he's still fist pumps and stuff,
- 32:13Speaker 3: but just the way, just the way he he he
- 32:15Speaker 3: manages the team. Like I said, I like the challenge.
- 32:18Speaker 2: He was all over it.
- 32:20Speaker 3: I think if Poopolhole can get his offense going, like
- 32:24Speaker 3: I think Siriann's going to get a little more hands
- 32:26Speaker 3: on maybe because like he's got to recognize, like this
- 32:29Speaker 3: is not where we barely won that game. We barely
- 32:32Speaker 3: won the Cowboys game. Probably should have won both games
- 32:35Speaker 3: by more points. So again, like what it was was
- 32:39Speaker 3: poopoo Hole an offensive coordinator before. This is his first time.
- 32:43Speaker 1: First time. I mean he's been to the Eagles organization.
- 32:46Speaker 1: He's been, he's been an offensive coach, but not an
- 32:49Speaker 1: offensive coordinator calling plays.
- 32:51Speaker 3: Yeah, and maybe Sirian has to step in a little
- 32:53Speaker 3: bit and like kind of start to, you know, nudge
- 32:56Speaker 3: him a certain direction. But yeah, I'm very impressed with
- 33:01Speaker 3: Nick Sirianni can't believe it, even from last year when
- 33:05Speaker 3: I was probably on the show saying he should be fired.
- 33:07Speaker 2: This guy. Yeah, he's legit and this team is this
- 33:13Speaker 2: team is legit. That is a tough win.
- 33:15Speaker 1: It's Week two and A. J. Brown only has thirty
- 33:18Speaker 1: five yards on the season. That's a problem. That's a
- 33:20Speaker 1: problem for me and poopoo Hole. As you're saying, yeah,
- 33:25Speaker 1: something needs to happen here, So that's right. I'm in
- 33:28Speaker 1: fifth grade. Still, Yes, poopoo Hole is goopole Hole needs
- 33:32Speaker 1: to do something right now. I'm going to be calling
- 33:33Speaker 1: him that constantly even around my kiopole.
