- 0:07[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar fans, welcome in to Duval Daily, presented by Gen Jack.com.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Jordan Aluga, thanks so much for being here.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_00]: Monday, January 12th, as you all know, the Jacksonville Jaguar is 2025, season has come to an end.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: I wanted to talk about Liam Cohen's post game press conference, because I thought there were some really interesting stuff in there.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_00]: Questions that he answered and thoughts that he had.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of fans, a lot of people,
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: We're curious about why he didn't run the ball more.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_00]: He had some answers on that.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: He talked about the fourth down.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously there was the,
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: the reporter from the Jacksonville Free Press, who made headlines as well.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: So we're gonna get into it, really appreciate y'all tuning in.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content here, it's all jags all the time.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: Please like and subscribe.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna be talking about this loss for the Jack Wars over the next couple days for sure.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: And we will turn the page at some point this week and start looking forward to what should be realistically.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: It really fun and exciting offseason for the Jaguars.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: It absolutely should be.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: There should be a lot more hope, a lot more confidence that this is just a sustainable build than there has been in the past.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: You had 2017 and obviously things devolved inside the front office with that regime.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: Doug Morone at head coach, I mean, it wasn't a perfect build.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: I had more confidence in 2022 that there would be sustainability, but I also never thought that there would be a consistent winner with Trent Balkey as the general manager.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: And it turned out he wasn't the only problem or maybe not even the biggest problem with that build.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: But you have Liam Cohen, James
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: you have a really good quarterback, Trevor Lawrence absolutely is, and you have a lot of pieces to be excited about.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, I think that this is a season that should be celebrated and you should be excited about it, obviously disappointed.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: Because there wasn't opportunity, I think, for this team to go on a run in the postseason and maybe have the best postseason
- 2:43[SPEAKER_00]: not to be the case this year.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: But getting into some of these things Liam Cohen talked about.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: Regarding not taking the points, not going for a field goal on fourth and two, any regret there, he said, no, not at all, and that really is not surprising.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: I think that maybe some fans, if you don't pay attention to him all the time or pay attention to press conferences all the time, that might be surprising to you, but that just, I knew that he was going to be fourth and two in that situation, you got to go try to get as many points as you can.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: And I honestly kind of agree, but what he said is not even a close decision, it was all go for it on all the metrics.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: With where you're at down there that low, you've got to go for it, fourth down that low, you at least feel like you're going to have an opportunity to stop them and have a field position change very worse.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: You get the ball back with good field position.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't end up working out.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I agree with him.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_00]: I know like one of my buddies I was sitting next to, he was like just
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't have any problem with that one.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: I was kind of with him there in regards to the running running the ball.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: He was asked about the disjointedness of the passing game and how they were, you know, having more success.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: Running it, he said, yeah, we were running the ball, ran it well, obviously, pretty solid past defense.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: There was some pre-snap post-snap, changing the picture a little, and we just didn't really get it going.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: Said they had a couple of busts, a couple of poor calls, a couple of times not executing in the passing game in the first half.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: really kind of placed the blame on on everything there with the passing game not finding its groove in the first half.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: And then he was asked, I think it was Demetrius.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: He was asked, it seemed like they got away from running the ball a little bit in the first half.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: Liam Cohen said, I'm not really exactly sure what you mean.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: I just called the game the way I always called the game.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: Not much of an
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: I had the criticism after the game of, you know, why weren't you running the ball more at certain times?
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely did.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe when he goes back and reviews, he'll have a different opinion on that.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: But it did feel to me like there was multiple drives where if you had run the ball like once or twice more,
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: It would have been smart, given the fact that Travis E. T. N. and Bacial Tutan were basically running at will against the Buffalo Bills, and they ended up with only 17 carries combined.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: I thought that that was a grieges.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't like game script dictated that you couldn't run in any of these situations except for the final drive there, really.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: The final drive of both halves.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: And the final drive of the first half ended up going well.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: You just didn't execute on the field goal.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that was an unbelievable job I thought to get Parker down the field.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: And then obviously, Parker probably should have tried to go down immediately instead of fighting for those extra yards.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: But it ended up working out and they got the bills off sides.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: And that was just incredible.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: But then Cam little can't make the 54-year field goal.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah,
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: Back to the running game, I really do think that there was opportunities to run the football more.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm usually not one of those people that's like, oh, you really needed to run the ball a lot more in this game, but I don't know how you could argue against it.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: They were dominating in the run game, running at will with E.T.N.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: and T.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N.N
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: especially like you have a clear advantage on the ground.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have a clear advantage through the air.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like yeah, you did some good things through the air, but the way Christian Benford and Trudevius Y and those safeties were playing in coverage, you've got a better odds on the ground, in my opinion.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_00]: I was a little bit surprised to hear him say I'm not really sure exactly what you mean when he was asked about not running the ball more, but we'll see what he has to say about it later on.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously,
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: You had the Jacksonville Free Press Reporter basically just telling Liam Cohen great job this year, keep your head up, you're gonna do great things.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: Which, I mean obviously very nice sentiment.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I know there's some reporters for the jags that are just living, that that happened.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: Cause you know, I mean, I've never seen anything like that, right?
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: I have it.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_00]: It did catch me off guard, I was surprised.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: and in all the reporters who are upset about it, I understand why, because like that's just not what you're doing in a press conference, is having a congratulatory moment from a reporter.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: But at the same time, I don't care at all.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: I don't own it doesn't bother me.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know exactly did he say, I'll pull it up, Mark Long of the AP who does a great job.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: Very funny guy too.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: He said nothing awesome, okay, it's because Adam Shepter tweeted the video out.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: Adam Shepter said this is an awesome post game exchange between a reporter and Jaguar's head coach Liam Cohen and then Mark Long quote tweeted it and said nothing awesome in quotes about fans slash fake media doing stuff like that.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: It should be embarrassing for the people who credentialed her and her organization and it's a waste of time for those of us actually working.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't waste that much time to be honest.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: About the PR staff and stuff like that.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: I just really don't care Didn't bother me and you know I don't want to throw anybody under the bus ever, but I've heard questions that were more of a waste of the time than that So whatever, doesn't bother me a bit Liam Cohen
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's a wonderful coach.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_00]: But there's just going to be some people, some fans, that you're just going to have to get used to not agreeing with all of his fourth down decisions.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to be aggressive in most situations.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: And I personally like that because I like that you're giving yourself the opportunity when you're that close to potentially get seven instead of three.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: The difference between three and seven is massive.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: It is.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you get two field goals.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: That's six points.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_00]: One touchdown is six points plus the extra point, you know, seven, right?
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's just such a big difference.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like if you have two field goal drives, that does not equate to one touchdown drive.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: So I get it.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_00]: I get why you're wanting to be aggressive.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: I get how the numbers number, right?
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: Some people are just going to disagree with that.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: That's okay, but it is what it is.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: I did really like Liam Cohen's final comment on the question.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: Can you expand on what you guys have established here in this first year?
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: And this was his final final answer of the day said, I hope that we've established a standard of competing at a high level.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: of mental and physical toughness of putting the team first and that we're going to make every decision as an organization that puts the team and the grass first because that's what matters.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: That's what it's all about.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: Trying to put your players in a position to be successful both on the field and in the building as much as possible, the details matter.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: Continuing to try to set those new standards and keep moving forward.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's all you can ask for.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not coach speak, it's legit, it's real.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like this is really what the Jacksonville Jaguars are, moving forward in my opinion.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: And there's a long offseason to figure things out and I don't think you need to try to sit here and necessarily make wholesale changes, but you do have to try to figure some things out.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: put yourself in the best position to make it further next year.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_00]: Not only to make it further, but I mean, you got to get back to this point.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: You got to try to win the division, get back in the dance, but then once you do, if you do, how do you take that next step?
- 12:05[SPEAKER_00]: How do you, what do you take away from losing this game this way?
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: What do you take away from maybe what are your weaknesses perceived on the roster?
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: or maybe even within the staff.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: All these things are gonna be questions that Jack Wars have to answer this off season.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'm excited to see him do it.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: Let me know how y'all are feeling today in the comment section below.

- 13:04[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, Connor, Trevor and Connor, they already did a 3 round Jaguar as mock draft, so we'll be taking a look at that soon and I have not gotten as deep into the draft for obvious reasons this year, but we will be getting into that there's going to be free agency as well.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of different moving parts for the Jaguars this off season, but thank you all so much for riding with me.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to keep this train going, y'all have a good one.
