- 0:00Speaker 1: Uh, it's I mean, I don't want to medically you
- 0:06Speaker 1: hope everyone's available obviously got the uh people nicked up
- 0:12Speaker 1: with a bunch of minor things with these training camp
- 0:15Speaker 1: style practices going on. Still, well, I guess just waitful
- 0:22Speaker 1: tomorrow to see. You know, if we have everyone available,
- 0:25Speaker 1: you have a couple of different players are dealing with
- 0:28Speaker 1: some things. Nothing significant of questions.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Put it up, use the raise hand and I'll call
- 0:36Speaker 2: on you. But it's able.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Go to you to start if you're ready or Joe hm.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Go ahead, Joe, yeah, yeah, Hey, so all right, let
- 1:00Speaker 2: me arm you Dan.
- 1:02Speaker 4: I'm just wondering how you prepare for a scrimmage like this,
- 1:05Speaker 4: and this is something you guys do every year pretty much,
- 1:08Speaker 4: not publicly, But how do you prepare for a scrimmage?
- 1:13Speaker 1: You talk, you talk something about personnel. I mean, it's
- 1:19Speaker 1: not this, uh you know, you're you're actually kind of
- 1:29Speaker 1: you know, leaning into having some adversity in in the
- 1:34Speaker 1: closed scrimmages. It's not the same as a game. You know,
- 1:38Speaker 1: we're we we rely heavily doubting and game planning in
- 1:46Speaker 1: our preparation and we're pretty you know, our our card
- 1:51Speaker 1: about how we set up our defense for opponents and
- 1:55Speaker 1: setting up our offense for opponents and you know, really
- 1:59Speaker 1: die or into a personnel game plan. There's there's there's
- 2:03Speaker 1: none of that for closed scrimmages, and there's none of
- 2:07Speaker 1: that for us with the exhibition. I think, you know
- 2:12Speaker 1: our mindset right now, it's like we're so consumed with
- 2:18Speaker 1: like our selves and like our our offense, our defense,
- 2:27Speaker 1: you know, our rebounding, like kind of our fundamentals and
- 2:31Speaker 1: building a tougher team that you know, you really are
- 2:38Speaker 1: so focused on yourself. It's just what it becomes is
- 2:41Speaker 1: an opportunity here, you know, close scrimmages exhibitions is to
- 2:47Speaker 1: get some of the jitters out obviously played in front
- 2:49Speaker 1: of the crowd, you know, and then were yeah, obviously
- 2:55Speaker 1: to learn, you know, to learn about your personal olcome
- 3:00Speaker 1: where players are at. And then also to take things
- 3:04Speaker 1: that you're doing that you know look like they'll work.
- 3:10Speaker 1: You'll keep hilding on those things. Some things you'll throw
- 3:12Speaker 1: out after these images exhibition type of things. But it's
- 3:19Speaker 1: a game relative to the detailed preparation you're put into
- 3:26Speaker 1: the holding.
- 3:31Speaker 5: To Dave next, Yeah, yeah, I guess there's probably some
- 3:38Speaker 5: of the similar question, but like in terms of what
- 3:41Speaker 5: you want to see tomorrow night, Like, is it important
- 3:43Speaker 5: that you guys, you know, winning and losing. I guess
- 3:47Speaker 5: isn't that important at this point that it's an exhibition game.
- 3:49Speaker 5: But at the same time, you want to look good
- 3:52Speaker 5: for a good crowd, I'm sure, and see how far
- 3:54Speaker 5: you guys are right now being on October fourteenth.
- 3:58Speaker 3: So I guess yeah. In general, just kind of what
- 4:00Speaker 3: do you want to see from the guys from the
- 4:01Speaker 3: team tomorrow night in terms of how they look.
- 4:06Speaker 1: I think you want to see different combinations of players.
- 4:13Speaker 1: You'd like to see some growth with some players. I'd
- 4:19Speaker 1: like to see how players respond in a in a
- 4:23Speaker 1: in a game like atmosphere. It's nice to be able
- 4:27Speaker 1: to have a you know, have an opening night type
- 4:35Speaker 1: of field that you can get out of the way
- 4:37Speaker 1: so that when we actually play the opener, maybe don't
- 4:40Speaker 1: have it out of their system. But you show up
- 4:44Speaker 1: obviously you want to go out and you want to
- 4:47Speaker 1: play well. You want to win, you want to compete,
- 4:49Speaker 1: you want to play hard. You know, we're not going
- 4:52Speaker 1: to look like we did the last time people saw
- 4:54Speaker 1: us play. It's not going to look like Phoenix you
- 5:00Speaker 1: know or MSG. You know, we're we're we're working progress
- 5:07Speaker 1: right now, and but I think it's exciting to get
- 5:13Speaker 1: obviously an opportunity to to go out and play against
- 5:17Speaker 1: somebody else and to you to take, you know, take
- 5:24Speaker 1: the good and the bad away from it. Obviously, you know,
- 5:27Speaker 1: we haven't been the best closed scrimmage team in the
- 5:32Speaker 1: last couple of years. We're not as good as the
- 5:33Speaker 1: close scrimmages. We've been really good at the ones that count.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Go to Jayden and then Kevin, h.
- 5:50Speaker 6: Hey, Dan, how are you We're up? How much I'm good?
- 5:55Speaker 1: Good? Uh?
- 5:57Speaker 6: First, you're earlier of what we've seen from Aiden and
- 6:01Speaker 6: Liam so far and their integration into the system, and
- 6:05Speaker 6: how much would we expect them to play maybe not
- 6:08Speaker 6: necessarily tomorrow, but early in the season compared to somebody
- 6:12Speaker 6: senior guys and the upper classmen.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Yeah, it's hard to you know, I think you end
- 6:22Speaker 1: up having a plan about what you want to do
- 6:24Speaker 1: at the minutes going into scrimmages, exhibitions, and then they
- 6:30Speaker 1: kind of just they kind of go up and smoke.
- 6:32Speaker 1: So obviously, you know, it's like you know, you're you
- 6:37Speaker 1: you have the lead, or you're down or you're not
- 6:40Speaker 1: happy with the way people are playing, and you send
- 6:43Speaker 1: a message by bention people or you know whatever that
- 6:49Speaker 1: you just don't know how the game is gonna unfold. So,
- 6:53Speaker 1: you know, Liam, it's been a very obviously the adjustments
- 6:58Speaker 1: is going to have to make from a heat standpoint,
- 7:02Speaker 1: a defensive standpoint, getting on the backboard standpoint. But he's
- 7:07Speaker 1: a really advanced, mature oppositive player, So you know, he's
- 7:15Speaker 1: by the time the you know, by the time you
- 7:18Speaker 1: start playing, I think he's going to be a you know,
- 7:21Speaker 1: consistently a really good this year for us. You know, Aiden,
- 7:28Speaker 1: it's uh, you know, Aiden has started to play I think,
- 7:34Speaker 1: you know, his best basketball as we've gotten closer to
- 7:36Speaker 1: the opening. Stylistically, there's a lot of adjustice ships that
- 7:42Speaker 1: he's had to make, and you know, but I think
- 7:46Speaker 1: he's you know, I think he's ready to go out
- 7:48Speaker 1: and I had a good day today. I think he's
- 7:50Speaker 1: ready to you know, get out and play against somebody else.
- 7:53Speaker 1: I think, you know, you know, the sound of a
- 7:57Speaker 1: mode of been talent in for weeks now, just excited
- 8:02Speaker 1: to play against somebody else. And I know he's gonna
- 8:06Speaker 1: be committed to see referees. H Kevin, go.
- 8:15Speaker 4: Ahead, Yeah, Dan, I'm curious how this one came about.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Uh that that's a and your relationship with Archie.
- 8:24Speaker 4: Uh, I know you've known him for a while, but
- 8:27Speaker 4: do you talk with him a lot, you know about
- 8:29Speaker 4: the issues that Rhode Island.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Yeah, so they were kind of like you know, kindred
- 8:38Speaker 1: spirits and the fact that we kind of lived a
- 8:40Speaker 1: very similar life, you know souther of coaches, great basketball families.
- 8:48Speaker 1: You know, we're both you know obviously you're both had
- 8:52Speaker 1: great you know, great careers and coaches and and and players. Yeah,
- 8:58Speaker 1: there's like, uh, I've seen anything. I seen him on
- 9:01Speaker 1: the road. I get a chance to hyah to kind
- 9:04Speaker 1: of talk to him and uh, you know about Roady
- 9:11Speaker 1: and just about basketball and in general. Uh got a
- 9:16Speaker 1: lot of respect for uh for Art and the way
- 9:19Speaker 1: he coaches and the way he gets his teams to
- 9:22Speaker 1: play and and uh and yeah, so I think, uh
- 9:28Speaker 1: we're connected because of the shows such a similar life
- 9:32Speaker 1: and now he's coaching that uh at a place that
- 9:36Speaker 1: obviously I have a lot of love for him.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Great, Thank you appreciate.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Go to him one.
- 9:49Speaker 7: Uh Hi Dan, Uh just wondering, Uh, you know what
- 9:53Speaker 7: does a game like this and exhibition U kon you are?
- 9:57Speaker 7: I you know too, two long time rivals, uh having
- 10:01Speaker 7: the exhibition kind of public at a at a unique,
- 10:04Speaker 7: uh neutral site? What can that do for kind of
- 10:07Speaker 7: promotion at the game and for building up excitement up
- 10:10Speaker 7: to the season here in the area.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Yeah, obviously, I guess people excited about college basketball and
- 10:20Speaker 1: in the in the middle of October. Uh. I would
- 10:25Speaker 1: say that, you know, I don't know Archie feel the
- 10:27Speaker 1: same way, but I wish I wish I had more
- 10:30Speaker 1: time before we went public. You know, we're I mean,
- 10:34Speaker 1: I don't even know who's gonna start tomorrow night at
- 10:38Speaker 1: a couple of spots here.
- 10:40Speaker 6: Uh.
- 10:41Speaker 1: I mean, I'm more concerned about my ball screen defense,
- 10:45Speaker 1: my transition defense, are rebounding, our on ball defense. I
- 10:52Speaker 1: could run through a list of things right now that
- 10:54Speaker 1: I'm that I'm not pleased that pleased with or I
- 10:58Speaker 1: just don't think they're ready for uh, you know, for
- 11:05Speaker 1: real games to begin. But this, uh yeah, but this one,
- 11:10Speaker 1: you see, there's a lot of benefits. I think it's
- 11:14Speaker 1: it's it's great for you know, the New England area
- 11:19Speaker 1: for college groups will play a game that UH at
- 11:23Speaker 1: MO Vegan. It's the place that we want to try
- 11:26Speaker 1: to get to to play at once a year if
- 11:31Speaker 1: you can. Moving forward, it's tough for us because you
- 11:34Speaker 1: already have to split games between two places. So it's
- 11:38Speaker 1: nice to be able to get here and play one. Yeah,
- 11:42Speaker 1: but it's also too it's a little bit scary because
- 11:44Speaker 1: we're not anywhere near what we're gonna be when you know,
- 11:49Speaker 1: a couple of weeks from now. But it's still a
- 11:52Speaker 1: good opportunity to learn about the team and to see
- 11:55Speaker 1: how people respond to uh WHI should be a fun atmosphere.
- 12:03Speaker 8: Thank you you guys, Adam.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Then back to Dave.
- 12:08Speaker 8: Hey, Dan, First, I'm sorry that your Royals got taken
- 12:11Speaker 8: out by the Yankees.
- 12:12Speaker 1: I hope you what's your jerky?
- 12:16Speaker 3: You're just what time? What times the Royals game? I
- 12:20Speaker 3: know the Yankees are playing on Monday?
- 12:24Speaker 1: You know what you know? Adam, I was gonna I
- 12:28Speaker 1: was gonna support the local and now I play Cleveland,
- 12:32Speaker 1: but Detroit. I'm gonna horder Cleveland. I've got a Cleveland
- 12:37Speaker 1: in the hat on fanatics. I'm gonna have all Tigers.
- 12:43Speaker 8: You only got to wait about six months for the
- 12:45Speaker 8: next Royals game.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Don't worry too, but they lose. Just remember you you
- 12:51Speaker 1: you roasted out here, Carbo.
- 12:54Speaker 8: Yeah, obviously you're still in the mix for some recruits.
- 13:00Speaker 8: Do you encourage those recruits to watch these exhibitions or
- 13:04Speaker 8: do you you know, do you talk to them about
- 13:08Speaker 8: how they might fit in on this team going forward,
- 13:11Speaker 8: you know, at all based on how you're playing now
- 13:14Speaker 8: or what your needs are.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that, you know, a critical part of
- 13:20Speaker 1: our recruiting is when the when the potential recruit takes
- 13:24Speaker 1: the visit, you know that they're able to really watch
- 13:31Speaker 1: uh uh an m. Tason practice and uh and then
- 13:36Speaker 1: we watched so much film with incoming recruits. We watch them,
- 13:42Speaker 1: We watch obviously the way we play. They know so
- 13:45Speaker 1: much about a basketball situation that you know, they may watch.
- 13:51Speaker 1: But I don't think that, you know, for us, it's
- 13:55Speaker 1: much more factor because we are so much of our
- 13:59Speaker 1: conversation in the basketball sat are that they know so
- 14:06Speaker 1: much about who we are already, you know, Plus they've
- 14:09Speaker 1: had the you know, the luxury you're watching us you'll
- 14:13Speaker 1: play all the way through the National Championship game in
- 14:15Speaker 1: the last two years. But they know who we are
- 14:18Speaker 1: and they know how we play and they you know,
- 14:21Speaker 1: they know the opportunities for playing times in this box.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Was detail it pretty good? All right, thanks man, good luck,
- 14:31Speaker 1: appreciate it.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Back to Dave and then Sam wrap up.
- 14:42Speaker 1: By the way.
- 14:43Speaker 3: Then I was at Yankee Stadium Tuesday night.
- 14:45Speaker 1: George Bread was there.
- 14:49Speaker 5: Somebody asked him in the dug out before the game
- 14:51Speaker 5: about you know, you and him getting along and him
- 14:55Speaker 5: being your hero.
- 14:55Speaker 3: And stuff, and he was he thought it was all
- 14:58Speaker 3: pretty cool.
- 14:58Speaker 9: So I got the bad I got to I got
- 15:01Speaker 9: to find cads that and uh I got to meet
- 15:07Speaker 9: him though, I.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Want to meet them.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Yeah, just real quick.
- 15:11Speaker 5: And earlier in the week it said that you were
- 15:14Speaker 5: hoping that some of the conditions of the game, maybe
- 15:17Speaker 5: like more fouls allowed or even getting on the court
- 15:21Speaker 5: like I guess you do in the closed doors. Uh
- 15:23Speaker 5: do any anything more about that? Or is because it's
- 15:26Speaker 5: on TV maybe not as much.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't. I'm I'm pretty honest. I think when
- 15:35Speaker 1: I say, like us coaches this time of year are
- 15:39Speaker 1: so like worried about like so many fundamental things to
- 15:46Speaker 1: your team, like your basic ball stream defense, your your
- 15:51Speaker 1: transition defense, like a lot of the things that are
- 15:54Speaker 1: not even in place yet. I don't even have a
- 15:57Speaker 1: side out yet or much zone in. You know, you're
- 16:03Speaker 1: so consumed with trying to get your team better for
- 16:08Speaker 1: the opener that you find yourself a day or two
- 16:11Speaker 1: before an exhibition game, then you I don't even have
- 16:15Speaker 1: any idea. I've mentioned it in passing to Tom Moore,
- 16:19Speaker 1: who's the one that kind of set this whole thing up.
- 16:24Speaker 1: So yeah, I mean, I would.
- 16:26Speaker 9: Hope that there were able to have for both of
- 16:29Speaker 9: our front courts so that we could just get players
- 16:32Speaker 9: minutes that we go to six thousand or seven thousand,
- 16:37Speaker 9: whatever it is, so that you know, we can get
- 16:40Speaker 9: players reps and minutes is more important than you know,
- 16:48Speaker 9: you know, obviously the outcome per se. So but I
- 16:55Speaker 9: don't know.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Maybe I feel like maybe the referees will give me
- 16:59Speaker 1: some more leeway anyway with the coaching box, because we've
- 17:04Speaker 1: wanted the last two years and coaching don't win it,
- 17:07Speaker 1: and to get more calls and get more leeway. I'm
- 17:15Speaker 1: saying that tongue in cheek to do. I'm laughing when
- 17:19Speaker 1: I say that, but I'm not saying that. Please to
- 17:23Speaker 1: add that to so it's not taking adamtisement. Yeah, but
- 17:31Speaker 1: I'm gonna come turn around and looking at Tom more
- 17:33Speaker 1: right now, Tom, of those things were only six miles.
- 17:37Speaker 1: What do we have they been to amendments? So don
- 17:43Speaker 1: has nothing done?
- 17:46Speaker 3: All right?
- 17:47Speaker 1: Thanks Hm, take trips.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Good tim all right. Uh hey, coach.
- 18:00Speaker 4: Obviously it's the first time you'll face against Javonte Brann
- 18:02Speaker 4: after initially recurring him. What did you like about him
- 18:05Speaker 4: when you initially recruited him.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Yeah, when Kamani said it to me yesterday, I was like,
- 18:14Speaker 1: I was number one. I think it's only surprised. It
- 18:16Speaker 1: was pretty that was you know, year two for us.
- 18:21Speaker 1: It's only great. You're kind of I was trying to
- 18:25Speaker 1: wrap my mind around, you know, Johonte so being in
- 18:30Speaker 1: college and was callow the first actions to it, and
- 18:33Speaker 1: then just his energy and the motor and you know,
- 18:40Speaker 1: you know great mom, and you know how he kind
- 18:44Speaker 1: of even though he was with us for a short
- 18:47Speaker 1: period of time, obviously, Yeah, he was in a tough
- 18:50Speaker 1: spot and he came in to a recruiting class with
- 18:55Speaker 1: with the domin and and then and then you know,
- 19:00Speaker 1: Big Josh Carlton was already in the program. So obviously
- 19:06Speaker 1: it was not an ideal, you know, situation for him.
- 19:10Speaker 1: And and but well but you know, so he so
- 19:13Speaker 1: he sort he left. But you know, he's just he
- 19:19Speaker 1: was a he was a guy that practiced really really hard,
- 19:23Speaker 1: and it's just a fun guy to be around, and uh,
- 19:27Speaker 1: you know, and a real true big man you know,
- 19:30Speaker 1: like you know where like he was willing to do
- 19:33Speaker 1: the big man things and rolling and screening, posting up
- 19:38Speaker 1: and the maximum effort and the fun guy to coach.
- 19:42Speaker 1: We obviously wish he would have stayed. Yeah, but but
- 19:46Speaker 1: we understood.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Thank you, coach, you got I think that's all I
- 19:56Speaker 2: had in the queue. Yeah, I think we're good and coach,
- 20:01Speaker 2: thank you everyone.
- 20:01Speaker 1: We'll see him.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Thanks, thank you.
- 20:08Speaker 3: M
