- 0:11Speaker 1: Nobody news.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Well line, he's a good and let me see you. Hey,
- 0:16Speaker 2: what's up Australia. This is Corey Marx and I've got
- 0:19Speaker 2: a brand new album out called Sorry for Nothing, Volume two.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Fantastic, curently good to speak with you again, brother.
- 0:25Speaker 2: You too, my friend.
- 0:27Speaker 3: As you mentioned, eu releasia fourth album, Sorry for Nothing,
- 0:30Speaker 3: Volume Two on October three, which is this Friday. So
- 0:33Speaker 3: how does that field finally have it out there in
- 0:35Speaker 3: the public domain.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Well, uh, you know, it's crazy to think that this
- 0:40Speaker 2: is my second album in less than well in ten months,
- 0:42Speaker 2: exactly because Volume one came out in December twenty twenty four.
- 0:46Speaker 2: So I wrote so much, so many songs and so
- 0:49Speaker 2: much music, you know, during the COVID periods into twenty
- 0:52Speaker 2: twenty three and early twenty twenty four. So you know,
- 0:56Speaker 2: this is all all music that I love. I'm very
- 0:58Speaker 2: proud of and excited to finally have out out into
- 1:01Speaker 2: the world. So I'm I'm, I'm excited, and uh, I
- 1:04Speaker 2: think it's a perfect blend of country rock and hard rock.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Once again, just you know, me doing my thing and
- 1:11Speaker 2: hoping the world loves it when it comes out.
- 1:14Speaker 1: No, I say, what'd you say?
- 1:15Speaker 3: It's a vastly different based to volume one, or is
- 1:18Speaker 3: it more of a continue I said to sign, I.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Would say it's it's a continuation, you know. I think
- 1:23Speaker 2: there's some really great country stuff on there.
- 1:26Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Again, uh might be a biased opinion, of course, but uh,
- 1:30Speaker 2: you know, but there's some some some heavier stuff like
- 1:32Speaker 2: like what you've heard so far already, like Hangman and
- 1:36Speaker 2: are You with Me? And there's some there's some different
- 1:40Speaker 2: stuff on there too that I think a song like
- 1:42Speaker 2: someone I Hate, which you know you you hear, you
- 1:46Speaker 2: even hear some some some metal screams uh in there,
- 1:49Speaker 2: maybe channeling my phil and Selmour or my Chester a
- 1:52Speaker 2: little bit, which which is different for me on the record,
- 1:57Speaker 2: and even that style of song. But nonetheless always always,
- 2:02Speaker 2: you know, always looking to grow and and do better.
- 2:04Speaker 2: So yeah, just another you know, eleven songs that I'm
- 2:08Speaker 2: really excited about.
- 2:10Speaker 3: No, And you mentioned the singles I so far you've
- 2:12Speaker 3: released Are You with Me and Hangman and on Friday
- 2:15Speaker 3: you be released in Whiskey River as well. So these
- 2:18Speaker 3: songs a good, stunny representation of what do you expect?
- 2:20Speaker 3: Or is there some other things to discover?
- 2:24Speaker 2: I think it's a pretty uh I think it's a
- 2:26Speaker 2: pretty good idea of what to expect, you know, like
- 2:29Speaker 2: are you with me? Is? You know, it's got some country,
- 2:31Speaker 2: got some rock elements, but of course Hangman is pretty
- 2:35Speaker 2: straightforward rock and Whiskey River, you know, is just channeling
- 2:39Speaker 2: the music that I grew up on and maybe of
- 2:41Speaker 2: course channing a little channeling a little bit of my
- 2:44Speaker 2: my good friend Travis Tritt uh in there and with
- 2:47Speaker 2: with a nineties you know, a nineties country footstopping sound.
- 2:52Speaker 3: You mentioned this song before, bro, But my favorite on
- 2:54Speaker 3: the whole album is someone I Hate Like it.
- 2:56Speaker 1: It's an absolute cracker. Like to tell us more about
- 2:59Speaker 1: that one? And then where come from?
- 3:01Speaker 2: Yeah? That one? That one I wrote with with a
- 3:03Speaker 2: few friends in Nashville. You know it was I think
- 3:07Speaker 2: it was kind of like a random right and set
- 3:09Speaker 2: up and you know it's it's it's it's funny because
- 3:14Speaker 2: the way the way I wanted to angle it too
- 3:17Speaker 2: is you know, it sounds like you know about in
- 3:22Speaker 2: a way like, uh, you make me into someone I hate.
- 3:25Speaker 2: It sounds you know lyrically too, like if it's just
- 3:28Speaker 2: the story behind it, what I try to do, is
- 3:30Speaker 2: it kind of sounds like it's about a girl or
- 3:33Speaker 2: or you know, you know, a relationship gone bad, but uh,
- 3:37Speaker 2: in reality, I kind of referenced it towards you know,
- 3:41Speaker 2: the music industry and uh, you know, just some of
- 3:44Speaker 2: the some of the definitely the lows that that feel
- 3:47Speaker 2: like highs at times. It can you know, leave you
- 3:49Speaker 2: and leave you in these you know, certain spots and
- 3:53Speaker 2: and and like the title says, sometimes you know it
- 3:56Speaker 2: could leave you feeling like someone you hate or someone
- 3:58Speaker 2: I hate. And so we tried to reference that, but
- 4:01Speaker 2: in terms of a you know, a relationship kind of
- 4:04Speaker 2: falling apart tech story or or let's just say in
- 4:07Speaker 2: my case that the girl you can't you can't team rather.
- 4:11Speaker 1: I know that story all well, brother.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Now, but I don't know if you're going to be
- 4:17Speaker 3: releasing that as a single, mate, but if were you,
- 4:19Speaker 3: I'd be pushing for that one to go because the
- 4:21Speaker 3: sort of more metal heads like myself will definitely relate
- 4:23Speaker 3: to that song.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Yeah, well, you know, it's it's definitely there's a few
- 4:28Speaker 2: songs on this album that you know, I definitely think
- 4:31Speaker 2: our single worthy, just like Volume one. So you know, well,
- 4:35Speaker 2: we'll see what happens and hopefully Whiskey River gets a
- 4:38Speaker 2: bunch of love. And you know we could we could
- 4:41Speaker 2: keep popping these singles out from the from the album
- 4:44Speaker 2: It's now.
- 4:45Speaker 3: On volume one you had guest artists such as Saliana,
- 4:48Speaker 3: there was Travis Tree and micmarg and d l from
- 4:50Speaker 3: band Wolves. But from what I can see, Volume two
- 4:52Speaker 3: hasn't got any guest artists on it. Like why decided
- 4:55Speaker 3: to put all of them on volume one and not
- 4:57Speaker 3: spread them out over bath?
- 4:58Speaker 2: Well, I think Volley one, you know, we you know it,
- 5:02Speaker 2: it was its own, it was its own thing, and
- 5:06Speaker 2: you know we really wanted to, uh you know, have
- 5:09Speaker 2: have a response to outlaws and outsiders. And I think
- 5:12Speaker 2: make My Country Rock was just that, of course having
- 5:15Speaker 2: like you said, uh my friends Mick mars And and
- 5:17Speaker 2: Travis Tritt on it, but adding a new voice and
- 5:20Speaker 2: another another beast, another great uh Solly Earn of godsmack
- 5:25Speaker 2: and uh you know I received my you know, my
- 5:28Speaker 2: third top twenty at US Rock Radio with that one.
- 5:30Speaker 2: So that was, you know, that was that you know,
- 5:32Speaker 2: moved the lead need a little bit and really proud
- 5:35Speaker 2: about that. And in this record, I think, you know,
- 5:39Speaker 2: I want to do something different. I haven't released the
- 5:40Speaker 2: record yet with with with no features and uh, there
- 5:43Speaker 2: are some some guitar players on some of the country stuff,
- 5:48Speaker 2: friends of mine that that are on it, that that
- 5:52Speaker 2: are playing on it, but uh, no actual features, vocal
- 5:56Speaker 2: features like in the previous album. So I kind of
- 5:59Speaker 2: wanted to I kind of wanted to have its own
- 6:03Speaker 2: voice and that being me for for this one. And
- 6:05Speaker 2: uh and I guess going back to the title and
- 6:08Speaker 2: Sorry for Nothing good.
- 6:11Speaker 3: I'm guessing they were both recorded at the same time.
- 6:13Speaker 3: So how did you actually decide what what to put
- 6:16Speaker 3: on what volume? Like were you going for balance over
- 6:19Speaker 3: the two or we What was your process?
- 6:22Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, in a way, like because we initially, you know,
- 6:27Speaker 2: Sorry for Nothing was those that first batch of songs
- 6:30Speaker 2: that I that I really wanted out, that I really
- 6:32Speaker 2: wanted the world to hear, and I knew make my
- 6:34Speaker 2: country rock was definitely, like I said, the answer to
- 6:36Speaker 2: Outlaws and Outsider, so that had to be on there.
- 6:39Speaker 2: And Sorry for Nothing, I mean, it's the title track,
- 6:41Speaker 2: and it's one of my favorites, you know, one of
- 6:44Speaker 2: my favorite songs that I've ever written, because it's so
- 6:47Speaker 2: personal and kind of you know, right up, right up
- 6:50Speaker 2: my alley and Lane. So and what I like to
- 6:54Speaker 2: do is with my albums, I really like to curate
- 6:58Speaker 2: them in a sense of like, okay, well if we
- 7:00Speaker 2: have if I'm doing eleven songs, I think of it, Okay, well,
- 7:03Speaker 2: how would I do this in a live show? Right?
- 7:06Speaker 2: I've always made my records that way, even if you
- 7:09Speaker 2: look back at going back to Who I Am and
- 7:10Speaker 2: even my very first record, This Man here in Canada,
- 7:15Speaker 2: it's always been like I've always tried to place it
- 7:17Speaker 2: where you know, I take the I take the listener
- 7:21Speaker 2: along for a ride, and hopefully ride they're going to
- 7:23Speaker 2: want to you know, you know, enjoy over and over again.
- 7:26Speaker 2: I want to want to get back in line for it.
- 7:28Speaker 2: So really it was just processing the first record, which
- 7:32Speaker 2: is obviously Volume one, putting that that live field order
- 7:36Speaker 2: to it with with with those songs, and then this one.
- 7:40Speaker 2: You know, the last year I've been actually you know,
- 7:43Speaker 2: you know, we end with Outlaws and Outsiders right the
- 7:46Speaker 2: big bang. But when there's time left or they asked
- 7:50Speaker 2: for an encore, you know, you know, especially in Europe,
- 7:53Speaker 2: it was such a you know, just such a cool thing.
- 7:55Speaker 2: I'd actually go out there with just me the guitar
- 7:58Speaker 2: and the fans, and I would I would play Sorry
- 8:00Speaker 2: for Nothing acoustic, which is how we end this album
- 8:03Speaker 2: Volume two.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Nice and I've got to say, Bry like I love
- 8:06Speaker 3: the chartle sorry for Nothing, like nobody could ever accuse
- 8:09Speaker 3: you of sitting on the fantasy playing it how you
- 8:12Speaker 3: feel and as Superla, well.
- 8:15Speaker 2: I mean I I you know, I mean this, I
- 8:16Speaker 2: mean that with with with you know, with all the
- 8:18Speaker 2: love in the world, you know, I just I, you know,
- 8:22Speaker 2: like like Marl Haggard would say, I am what I am,
- 8:24Speaker 2: and I love what I love. I mean, I love rock,
- 8:27Speaker 2: I love country, I love metal, and I wanted to create,
- 8:31Speaker 2: you know, almost I guess creator genre or a sound
- 8:35Speaker 2: that that not only mixes the boats, but allows me
- 8:38Speaker 2: as an artist to play country music, to play rock,
- 8:41Speaker 2: and to you know, and to headbang a little bit too,
- 8:44Speaker 2: because as a drummer, you know, I missed those days.
- 8:47Speaker 2: And that's why in the live show, you know, typically
- 8:50Speaker 2: if we have at least seventy five minutes or it's
- 8:52Speaker 2: a headline slot, you know, the crowd gets to see
- 8:55Speaker 2: a drum solo too, which has been a lot of fun.
- 8:57Speaker 2: It's it's it's quite the Uh. I think for the
- 9:01Speaker 2: most part, unless people have been to a show before
- 9:03Speaker 2: or know me as a drummer, it's kind of like,
- 9:05Speaker 2: what's he doing back there? And then we start and
- 9:08Speaker 2: it's just like, it's it's so much fun. My drummer
- 9:10Speaker 2: goes nuts. It's like, it's so awesome, man, you just
- 9:13Speaker 2: go nuts, and it's so cool to see because you
- 9:16Speaker 2: do this ballad stuff. You just do. You you're sol
- 9:18Speaker 2: acoustic halfway through a show and then you just get
- 9:19Speaker 2: back on the kit and then boom, we're firing things
- 9:22Speaker 2: back up again. So it's it's a lot of fun.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Like I said, the show is a it's I think
- 9:27Speaker 2: it's a it's a fun roller coaster, fun roller coaster. Right. Yeah.
- 9:31Speaker 3: This is a second album of yours that I've spikeing
- 9:33Speaker 3: with you about and it still blows me away. Might
- 9:35Speaker 3: how you blend the rock in the country and lashington
- 9:38Speaker 3: metal and make it sound so damn good Like normally
- 9:40Speaker 3: I run for the hills as soon as someone mentions
- 9:42Speaker 3: the word country music, but I got you.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I can't help but enjoy your music. It's it's something
- 9:47Speaker 1: in there.
- 9:48Speaker 2: I I appreciate it, man, And uh, you know, when
- 9:51Speaker 2: you're listening to it, I'm just so glad you're not
- 9:53Speaker 2: saying run to run, boil alive. But know it's uh,
- 10:01Speaker 2: you know, that's kind of been my objective in a way.
- 10:04Speaker 2: And of course it's you know, industry standard. And I've
- 10:07Speaker 2: been saying this a lot lately, but you know, sure
- 10:10Speaker 2: I might have made things harder on myself in that sense,
- 10:13Speaker 2: you know, being accepted or playing by the rules or
- 10:16Speaker 2: sticking to the box in the box, but you know, ultimately,
- 10:21Speaker 2: I think it's our job as artists to you know,
- 10:24Speaker 2: the names in the world. You know, art, create art,
- 10:27Speaker 2: and create what you want to do, what you want
- 10:29Speaker 2: to say and how you want to say it, and
- 10:31Speaker 2: most of all connect with fans. And in my case,
- 10:34Speaker 2: whether they're country, their rock or metal, you know, there's
- 10:38Speaker 2: there's some sort of edge, if not all of it,
- 10:41Speaker 2: uh in there for them that they're gonna be like,
- 10:43Speaker 2: you know what, I like this shit, and I want
- 10:44Speaker 2: to go to the concerts and I want to I
- 10:46Speaker 2: want to listen to the album. You know, before we're
- 10:47Speaker 2: going to the bar, we're putting out some Corey marks.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Before we make love. We're gonna you know, we're gonna
- 10:51Speaker 2: listen to Corey Marx hopefully or before we have a
- 10:54Speaker 2: light of cigar and sit down and drink whiskey and wine.
- 10:57Speaker 2: You know, we're gonna listen to some Corey mark So
- 10:59Speaker 2: that's you know that I try to write, you know,
- 11:03Speaker 2: I try to write and create from you know, the
- 11:05Speaker 2: the again this I use the reference roller coaster, but
- 11:07Speaker 2: this roller coaster life, man, where you know, you have
- 11:10Speaker 2: your upscure downs, and you're in betweens and I think
- 11:13Speaker 2: there's a there's a song. There's a song in there
- 11:16Speaker 2: for any or all of that.
- 11:19Speaker 1: It's got to be pretty cool.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Sometimes from on stage, are you looking out because metal heads,
- 11:24Speaker 3: country people and rockers they all dress differently.
- 11:27Speaker 1: You know, they got a different style about it. So
- 11:28Speaker 1: you're looking out.
- 11:29Speaker 3: There and do they sort of pull little pockets? Do
- 11:31Speaker 3: you country want to stick together and cut out?
- 11:35Speaker 2: I usually could tell the metal heads, especially in a
- 11:38Speaker 2: live show, and when Cowboys from Hell kind of starts
- 11:41Speaker 2: kicking off, or at the end of the solo, I
- 11:45Speaker 2: end my solo at this you know, crazy drum thing,
- 11:47Speaker 2: and then I just stop and count us back in
- 11:49Speaker 2: and we go into late of late to Rest by
- 11:51Speaker 2: Lamb of God and whenever we're doing that, or of
- 11:55Speaker 2: course the intro that to blame it on the double.
- 11:58Speaker 2: You got all the metal heads hanging on the bars going,
- 12:00Speaker 2: it's like, all right, they go to metal, they go
- 12:01Speaker 2: to metal conte or the country people. I find a
- 12:04Speaker 2: lot of them were just kind of like, you know,
- 12:07Speaker 2: more subtle, but they got the horns up, you know,
- 12:11Speaker 2: and some of them might just throw their cowboy hat off.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Who knows.
- 12:13Speaker 1: That's right.
- 12:16Speaker 3: You grew up on musicians from Metal Haggett all the
- 12:18Speaker 3: way through at Ausiello's Bawn. But do you remember the
- 12:21Speaker 3: moment when you actually sat and thought, like, I've could
- 12:23Speaker 3: mix these guys together and come.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Up with I do I remember the exact moment. I
- 12:29Speaker 2: was driving with my dad to Toronto, and I was
- 12:32Speaker 2: very early on in my career, and and you know,
- 12:36Speaker 2: going to Nashville writing for a week or two and whatnot.
- 12:39Speaker 2: And I remember, fresh out of high school, my favorite
- 12:44Speaker 2: album for for a number of years, and for a
- 12:45Speaker 2: number of reasons, it was Black Rain by Ozzy Osbourne,
- 12:49Speaker 2: and just because there was some of those songs like
- 12:53Speaker 2: you know, you just want to like rage and it
- 12:55Speaker 2: was rocking, but there's such beautiful ballads on there too.
- 12:58Speaker 2: And I thought, okay, well, you know, obviously I can't
- 13:01Speaker 2: sound like Ozzy. Nobody can. But being having a love
- 13:05Speaker 2: for country music, you know, it was like I remember
- 13:08Speaker 2: sitting with my dad and we were on the way
- 13:10Speaker 2: and we were listening to this album. You know, as
- 13:12Speaker 2: I think as he noticed things were getting a little
- 13:14Speaker 2: more serious. You know, it's like, well, you know what,
- 13:17Speaker 2: it's a it's a Canadian that produced this album. His
- 13:19Speaker 2: name's Kevin Cherco. This is kind of a crazy story
- 13:22Speaker 2: where they were sitting there listening to the record and
- 13:26Speaker 2: it was like, I'm like, oh, you know, and I was.
- 13:27Speaker 2: It was so early on in my game that you know,
- 13:30Speaker 2: I was I was just trying to like not make
- 13:32Speaker 2: a name, but get down there and write good songs
- 13:35Speaker 2: and whatnot and make connections. But I wasn't, you know
- 13:37Speaker 2: everage like you know, oh yeah, this producer did Dad
- 13:40Speaker 2: or this song right, Like, you know, it's just so
- 13:42Speaker 2: new to everything. So at that time I wasn't aware
- 13:45Speaker 2: but the fact that he did my favorite album at
- 13:47Speaker 2: the time. And I remember telling Dad, I'm like, how
- 13:50Speaker 2: cool would it be to have a country record like
- 13:54Speaker 2: with a Haggard or Aertra's voice, but with this azzy production,
- 13:59Speaker 2: you know, and I remember, remember, you know, just some
- 14:02Speaker 2: of the cool things on that album, like the soldiers
- 14:04Speaker 2: marching and the cool just affects that ultimately, as I
- 14:09Speaker 2: learned that, you know, che Cherko did, and then you know,
- 14:13Speaker 2: you hear that boot stump and Outlaws and Outsiders where
- 14:17Speaker 2: it's like, you know, it was so surreal. So at
- 14:20Speaker 2: the time, you know, I said that, and then you know,
- 14:24Speaker 2: months go on, and I think it was about six
- 14:27Speaker 2: months after that. I'm in Nashville with my producer at
- 14:29Speaker 2: the time. He goes, you know what, you know, what
- 14:31Speaker 2: we gotta do. I got to introduce you to this
- 14:34Speaker 2: that a kid I grew up with. Man like, listen,
- 14:36Speaker 2: it might not happen now because he's a big time producer,
- 14:39Speaker 2: but he's from Saskatchewan, went to school and church and
- 14:41Speaker 2: all that stuff with him, and we played in bands
- 14:44Speaker 2: together going up. Have you ever heard of Kevin Churco.
- 14:46Speaker 2: I'm like, there's no way you know Kevin Churko. He's like,
- 14:50Speaker 2: did I swear to God I'll call him right now,
- 14:51Speaker 2: and blah blah blah. A few months after that, he
- 14:54Speaker 2: gets an email from Kevin and they haven't really spoken,
- 14:58Speaker 2: like It's not like they spoke every day, but you know,
- 15:00Speaker 2: the check in every now and then. And I guess
- 15:02Speaker 2: after the I guess after Black Rain and Scream, Kevin
- 15:05Speaker 2: called him and said, hey, man, by the way, is
- 15:07Speaker 2: there anybody in the country music sceno down there and
- 15:10Speaker 2: you know up there in Canada that you know that
- 15:13Speaker 2: I could probably, you know, want to work with. I'm
- 15:15Speaker 2: just kind of feeling demoned out. And then he says,
- 15:18Speaker 2: I got the perfect guy, so, you know, sends them pictures,
- 15:22Speaker 2: sends them the music that I had and some videos
- 15:25Speaker 2: and whatnot. He says, well, look, I'm going to go
- 15:27Speaker 2: visit my parents in moose Jaw on these dates and whatnot.
- 15:30Speaker 2: And he says, well, perfect because Corey's tour touring with
- 15:33Speaker 2: Toby Keith and moose Jaw and doing all his Canadian dates.
- 15:37Speaker 2: So long story short, Kevin comes down with his whole
- 15:40Speaker 2: family and then I found out he was at the show.
- 15:42Speaker 2: I was like, you got, like, no pressure, but the
- 15:46Speaker 2: cool the very cool thing. The very cool thing was
- 15:49Speaker 2: my parents have never been out west. That was their
- 15:51Speaker 2: very first time out west. Because I was doing a
- 15:53Speaker 2: swing of festivals on top of these Toby Keith shows,
- 15:56Speaker 2: and sure, enough, I find out Kevin's actually going to
- 15:59Speaker 2: be at the show. So after the show, I go
- 16:02Speaker 2: in my green room. There he was with a shot
- 16:04Speaker 2: of Jack for one of each who says, great show man,
- 16:08Speaker 2: do you want to get to work in September? And
- 16:12Speaker 2: that dude? And after that we went out for dinner
- 16:14Speaker 2: with my parents. I got to meet his parents and
- 16:17Speaker 2: I told that whole story about Black Rain, and it's like,
- 16:20Speaker 2: this is happening, you know, And then we spent you know,
- 16:22Speaker 2: that was we wrote our first two songs were Outlaws
- 16:26Speaker 2: and Outsiders and Blame It on the Double, and we
- 16:30Speaker 2: wrote and recorded those songs in September twenty fifteen, so
- 16:35Speaker 2: or twenty sixteen, I can't remember. I think it was
- 16:37Speaker 2: might have been twenty fifteen or twenty sixteen, so it
- 16:39Speaker 2: was already five or six years old before it even
- 16:41Speaker 2: came out, before we had the features, It's it's wild
- 16:46Speaker 2: and then who then next thing, you know, you know,
- 16:48Speaker 2: obviously that song blew up and made me the first
- 16:51Speaker 2: Canadian country artist to have a top ten US rock
- 16:54Speaker 2: radio hit, and you know a number of top fives,
- 16:57Speaker 2: and I fixed four or five different countries. You know,
- 17:01Speaker 2: it was a it was a it was crazy, you know,
- 17:04Speaker 2: I got to I got to write and record twenty
- 17:06Speaker 2: some songs with him, and funny, I texted him one
- 17:10Speaker 2: of my last nights in in uh in Nashville, just
- 17:12Speaker 2: like a few days ago. I said, hey, man, I
- 17:15Speaker 2: think we need to hop on the phone and catch up,
- 17:17Speaker 2: and I think we need to do another album together.
- 17:20Speaker 2: So yeah, I'm putting it out there. I'm putting it
- 17:23Speaker 2: out there with Chris, with you, Chris. So let's let's
- 17:25Speaker 2: see what happened. That's that's the whole story behind that.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Man, fantastic.
- 17:29Speaker 2: It's long, but it's a good one.
- 17:31Speaker 1: But look, you had that vision, of course, and then
- 17:33Speaker 1: you made it happen.
- 17:34Speaker 3: But if it was something fresh and new in the
- 17:37Speaker 3: music world, what you're what you were doing, Like, how
- 17:39Speaker 3: much effort did it take to get others to share
- 17:41Speaker 3: your vision?
- 17:44Speaker 2: Well, that's that's the great thing, is I mean, you know,
- 17:48Speaker 2: he worked, he worked with you know, because at first
- 17:51Speaker 2: it was just me, him and Kane, his son, so
- 17:55Speaker 2: and I kind of had I already had like some
- 17:57Speaker 2: of this acoustic stuff, like Devil's Grin was a half
- 17:59Speaker 2: song I wrote and then I brought it up to
- 18:02Speaker 2: them and I don't even think it was called Devil's
- 18:03Speaker 2: Grin at the time because it was kind of really
- 18:05Speaker 2: leaning on the country side. I think it was Kane
- 18:07Speaker 2: who brought that up, and then we kind of ran
- 18:09Speaker 2: with it. Her Angel smiles of the Devil's Grin and
- 18:12Speaker 2: you know, they just did their thing. But you know,
- 18:15Speaker 2: we we The thing is with with Kevin is that
- 18:20Speaker 2: he you know, he not only did he produce like
- 18:23Speaker 2: and work with Shanai Twain and was in a country
- 18:25Speaker 2: band himself. He was a big fan of Steve Steve Earl,
- 18:29Speaker 2: that was his favorite, you know, but also loved the
- 18:32Speaker 2: whale in the Merle and mine mine was Merle Haggard,
- 18:35Speaker 2: you know, so but we're both drummers. So it was like,
- 18:39Speaker 2: you know, but Shanaia Twain's from four hours up the
- 18:42Speaker 2: road north of me, and like now looking back, it's
- 18:45Speaker 2: like we played so many of the same venues before
- 18:47Speaker 2: she was Shanaya and it's like we just came four
- 18:52Speaker 2: hours south of where she's from, into North Bay, the
- 18:55Speaker 2: Gateway City, and it's such a crazy and on top
- 18:58Speaker 2: of the ad did this crazy story before that whole
- 19:03Speaker 2: my manager introduced us well. On my first single, smartphone
- 19:08Speaker 2: he's I guess he didn't even tell me who he
- 19:10Speaker 2: was going to get done by, and he went and
- 19:12Speaker 2: got it done by by this guy, and and you know,
- 19:15Speaker 2: obviously I said, I love the big I said I
- 19:16Speaker 2: want a big drum sound and all this, and it
- 19:18Speaker 2: was big. And then I guess Kevin Cherko heard it
- 19:22Speaker 2: and and as a producer, goes, that's my sound, blah
- 19:26Speaker 2: blah blah blah, and he was kind of like, what
- 19:27Speaker 2: the hell is going on? I guess Louis, Louis my
- 19:30Speaker 2: manager didn't tell him that. He went to Kane, his son,
- 19:32Speaker 2: to get it mixed and mastered and all done. So
- 19:35Speaker 2: then and then so the next thing, you know, he goes,
- 19:37Speaker 2: you know, you know, that's like two years maybe two
- 19:40Speaker 2: years later, Kevin's you know, introduced to me officially, and
- 19:45Speaker 2: and then we're all working together and it's like Caine
- 19:47Speaker 2: mixed and and and produced like my my first, you know,
- 19:52Speaker 2: my first I think, Yeah, he mixed and mixed and
- 19:54Speaker 2: mastered my first single ever as a professional musician. And
- 19:58Speaker 2: then you know, a whole albu later, I'm doing my
- 20:01Speaker 2: next one with Kevin Cherco for you, you know, two
- 20:03Speaker 2: years later. So it's pretty it's it's pretty wild and
- 20:08Speaker 2: actually no pun intended. That has a lot to do
- 20:11Speaker 2: with a wild ride.
- 20:14Speaker 1: The song that's a good song.
- 20:15Speaker 2: I want to thank you.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I mean that was my second favorite.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Let the boys rip on that one, and they did.
- 20:25Speaker 3: You're out on tour next month with seven Duster is
- 20:27Speaker 3: part of their South wide double White chawl. Are you
- 20:29Speaker 3: a fan of seven duckts Man like their acoustic stuff
- 20:32Speaker 3: is dynamite?
- 20:34Speaker 2: Well, I actually when I found out I got the tour,
- 20:36Speaker 2: I actually listened to They have a record from two
- 20:38Speaker 2: thousand and one that's their their live album, so I know, yeah,
- 20:43Speaker 2: when I go to when I go to the gym,
- 20:44Speaker 2: I would listen to it. But I I didn't I
- 20:47Speaker 2: knew who they were, and I had a lot of
- 20:48Speaker 2: friends that you know, listen to them to, like a
- 20:50Speaker 2: lot of my metal head friends, and you know, I've
- 20:53Speaker 2: obviously heard, you know, their songs and stuff, but you know, yeah,
- 20:58Speaker 2: I was quite surprised when you know, I found out
- 21:01Speaker 2: I was going out on tour with them. But honestly,
- 21:04Speaker 2: and I've said this never interview of everyone that that
- 21:06Speaker 2: heard about it, like my buddies in Theory of a
- 21:08Speaker 2: Dead Man and you know, even guys like I've been
- 21:10Speaker 2: moody and all that, they're like, man, uh yeah, they're great.
- 21:13Speaker 2: They're great guys that you're gonna love them. They're really
- 21:15Speaker 2: they're really awesome. Like I've heard nothing but great things
- 21:17Speaker 2: about them, like, oh, you guys are gonna get along
- 21:19Speaker 2: so well, it's gonna be great.
- 21:21Speaker 3: And the acoustic stuff they do, broy like, I'm talking
- 21:24Speaker 3: about it like that, and you're you're fitting really well
- 21:27Speaker 3: than three Bright the stuff you did.
- 21:28Speaker 1: I wish I was in America. I comed every show.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Well, man, I that's the thing. I've had some questions
- 21:34Speaker 2: about that, like how are you going to fit in?
- 21:36Speaker 2: I said, honestly, I'm just gonna go out there with
- 21:39Speaker 2: me my acoustic guitar. Is just gonna be me and
- 21:41Speaker 2: my guitar and the songs and the fans, and I'm
- 21:43Speaker 2: going to just try to win them all over every
- 21:45Speaker 2: night and do what I do. And I think, you know,
- 21:47Speaker 2: it's acoustic. It worked very very well with Theory of
- 21:50Speaker 2: a Dead Man, and even even with a Brian Adams
- 21:54Speaker 2: cover near the end, and you know, I'm up there
- 21:57Speaker 2: playing what I want to play, and I just right
- 22:00Speaker 2: to God that you know the music gods, or rather
- 22:04Speaker 2: prayer that the you know, the people out there that
- 22:05Speaker 2: paid for a ticket are going to love it too.
- 22:07Speaker 2: That's the most important thing.
- 22:08Speaker 1: I'll back you, brother, I reckon you be your Perga seven.
- 22:11Speaker 1: That's one of my favorite bands in the world.
- 22:15Speaker 2: I appreciate that, Chris, thank you.
- 22:18Speaker 3: And then by the end of this year, you would
- 22:20Speaker 3: have done a headline story Canada. You would have done
- 22:22Speaker 3: debut chores to Europe, in the UK and chort America.
- 22:25Speaker 3: But there's one country missing out of all.
- 22:27Speaker 1: In that one.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Yeah, it's way down there, isn't it.
- 22:31Speaker 1: You played on coming over Well.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Honestly, Australia has been a bucket list for me since
- 22:38Speaker 2: since Outlaws and I had I had about I had
- 22:43Speaker 2: about I think it was six or seven shows with
- 22:46Speaker 2: two festivals all lined up down there, and then COVID hit,
- 22:52Speaker 2: so I had one hundred. I think it was around
- 22:54Speaker 2: one hundred shows because it was I had dates with
- 22:57Speaker 2: Alice Cooper. It was like six or seven dates with
- 22:59Speaker 2: Alice Cooper and the States an Amphitheaters tour, which I
- 23:03Speaker 2: think was like thirty six dates with Breaking Benjamin and
- 23:07Speaker 2: Theory of a Dead Man. It was like five of
- 23:09Speaker 2: us on that bill, So that just in the US alone,
- 23:12Speaker 2: I think where I was around forty forty five shows.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Canada with the festivals and a tour that I was
- 23:18Speaker 2: on was another thirty thirty five shows, and then there
- 23:22Speaker 2: was another dozen that were locked in with Germany, Italy, Australia.
- 23:27Speaker 2: I'm not sure. I think I think the UK as well,
- 23:31Speaker 2: and it just all went away.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Yeah, kind of that.
- 23:37Speaker 2: So that so that being said, you know, like some
- 23:40Speaker 2: of the radio stations in the country, you know, and
- 23:41Speaker 2: the country stations have been you know, you know, loving
- 23:46Speaker 2: loving the music and getting into that top top forty
- 23:49Speaker 2: and hopefully you know, Whiskey Rivers. I know it's going
- 23:51Speaker 2: the radio, and I'm already getting some ads down there,
- 23:54Speaker 2: which I'm hoping we'll definitely make that that case for
- 23:57Speaker 2: me to you know, to get down there whatever it is,
- 24:00Speaker 2: and you know, I hope the rock stations do it too,
- 24:02Speaker 2: of course, but you know, whatever is gonna get me
- 24:04Speaker 2: down there, man, because it's I've been. I've been, man.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Even even my fiance is like, you think you're gonna
- 24:10Speaker 2: go to Australia next year, and it's like, I don't know.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Management's always like it's too expensive right now. We need
- 24:14Speaker 2: to we need a case for it, and so on
- 24:16Speaker 2: and so forth. So I'm like, well, damn it, you
- 24:18Speaker 2: know better, Nolise, get on it and push it down there,
- 24:21Speaker 2: because I need to. I need to make my way.
- 24:23Speaker 2: It's been long overdue.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Well, they out pushing with me, Bro.
- 24:26Speaker 3: I've got teasers up all over heavy social media's for
- 24:28Speaker 3: you and stuff.
- 24:29Speaker 1: So we're doing our part.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Brother, Ah, thank you, thank you heavy no No.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Last time, I Johnny and we did the photo bomb
- 24:38Speaker 3: segment and you're probably the first person I've ever got
- 24:40Speaker 3: to do this twice with now, mate, So I've got
- 24:43Speaker 3: so I've got some new photos for you that I
- 24:45Speaker 3: found on social media that I want.
- 24:46Speaker 1: To know a bit more about.
- 24:48Speaker 3: Okay, all right, just right here, mate, Like you're playing
- 24:51Speaker 3: firefighter for the day, but I doubt you can put
- 24:53Speaker 3: any fires out with what you're holding there.
- 24:57Speaker 2: That was uh, that was on the theory of a
- 24:59Speaker 2: dead Man tour. And I met up with one of
- 25:01Speaker 2: my one of my brother's teammates who came out to
- 25:05Speaker 2: the show him and his wife and who happens to
- 25:06Speaker 2: be a Boston firefighter. So I said, dude, you got
- 25:10Speaker 2: to I mean, that's legendary stuff right there, especially you
- 25:12Speaker 2: know in America to go check out a Boston fire station,
- 25:16Speaker 2: so well, how to say Boston basting, Boston fast and fasting,
- 25:21Speaker 2: and uh, He's like, dude, you got to put on
- 25:23Speaker 2: my suit and everything. And as you could tell, I was,
- 25:26Speaker 2: you know, I was having a great night. So I
- 25:29Speaker 2: struggle a little bit putting those that that heavy gear on,
- 25:32Speaker 2: but we ended up getting this picture and it was
- 25:34Speaker 2: a lot of fun.
- 25:35Speaker 3: No, I said this other one. I don't know too
- 25:38Speaker 3: much about planes price, so I don't know if you're
- 25:40Speaker 3: in the in the driving to say, you know, or
- 25:42Speaker 3: in the passenger city bit. It looks like a lot
- 25:44Speaker 3: of fun.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Yeah, that was That was the plane. I'm flying it,
- 25:50Speaker 2: and I took my dad up for Father's Day and
- 25:52Speaker 2: that was a very special moment. And you know, he
- 25:56Speaker 2: came up with me in my first plane, which was
- 25:58Speaker 2: happened to be the first car I ever owned. It
- 26:00Speaker 2: was a nineteen fifty six Tripacer and I bought that
- 26:03Speaker 2: back in h I think it was two thousand and one,
- 26:06Speaker 2: after a little after I got my license, and I
- 26:09Speaker 2: didn't I only had it for a short period of
- 26:11Speaker 2: time because I had to get rid of it. It had
- 26:13Speaker 2: some maintenance issues and I needed a bus for the
- 26:15Speaker 2: US tour. So I've been you know, I found some
- 26:19Speaker 2: some flight schools where I can just rent planes and
- 26:21Speaker 2: have some friends that you know, I was able to
- 26:23Speaker 2: rent planes and fly them. Actually I just went flying
- 26:27Speaker 2: yesterday and but yeah, this is here Father's Day. I
- 26:29Speaker 2: took my dad flying and as you could tell, he's
- 26:34Speaker 2: both had that same smile, man, and we he's the
- 26:38Speaker 2: reason why I've really got an aviation from taking me
- 26:40Speaker 2: out a class when the fighter jets would come town,
- 26:42Speaker 2: or bringing me to the air show.
- 26:43Speaker 1: So that's a beautiful fighter. They haven't got any any
- 26:46Speaker 1: role that you gotta wear a T shirt. They are
- 26:48Speaker 1: up there, mate, nah na.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Na, No, that's it's it's hot up there, especially in
- 26:53Speaker 2: the summer. So uh, you know, I don't worry about
- 26:57Speaker 2: it too much.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Those nipples free, brother, all right, Cory, Well, thanks very
- 27:03Speaker 3: much for you, Tom br it's been a pleasure speaking
- 27:05Speaker 3: with you. Sorry for Nothing Volume two is out now,
- 27:07Speaker 3: not the Cracker album bro, So nice to.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Luck, thank you, thank you man. Well, as you can see,
- 27:11Speaker 2: my dad's wearing my Outlaws and Outsiders shirt there and
- 27:14Speaker 2: as and as far as as far as the nipples go,
- 27:17Speaker 2: I do have a tank top on. But either way, Chris,
- 27:20Speaker 2: I'm sorry for nothing, and thank you for bringing up
- 27:22Speaker 2: that picture. Smothering as one lines, he's a curtain. Let
- 27:41Speaker 2: me show you the hand hung down red lines.
- 27:45Speaker 1: We've been the dream another day and then I've been.
- 27:48Speaker 2: A long night making that at all lies leaving.
- 27:53Speaker 1: That wild life don't know me?
- 27:56Speaker 2: Ja ticks a cow that I ain't tied.

- 28:35Speaker 2: Station A long time speaking that of the old life
- 28:41Speaker 2: live or that wild life don't tell me speaking this

- 28:52Speaker 1: Just stamp rock and rolls.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Blood sweat tears, and.
