- 1:20we go all right um
- 1:26Let's jump off quick.
- 1:28This happened this morning,
- 1:30as far as I know.
- 1:32That is that BKG made a post
- 1:39about the sale of CrossFit
- 1:40Reykjavik and his side of it.
- 1:43So...
- 1:45Here it is.
- 1:47Pretty nice post.
- 1:49Talks about myself and a
- 1:52group of my friends have
- 1:53purchased CrossFit
- 1:54Reykjavik and have
- 1:55officially taken over the reins.
- 1:58I've taken on the role of
- 1:59head coach and thus far I'm
- 2:00enjoying it immensely.
- 2:02It's not all new to me to coach.
- 2:04Throughout my CrossFit career,
- 2:05I've strived to coach a few
- 2:06hours a week when possible.
- 2:08It's always been important
- 2:09to me to be amongst the
- 2:10people in the gym and feel
- 2:11that I am able to give a
- 2:13little bit back to the
- 2:14community for all the
- 2:15opportunities I've been
- 2:16able to have throughout the sport.
- 2:18Isn't that a great thing to
- 2:21say about the community and
- 2:23their support and being an
- 2:24athlete and having that
- 2:26support and now trying to give back?
- 2:28I think those are the key
- 2:29components we need to kind
- 2:32of move forward.
- 2:35He also then goes on to say
- 2:37that he is far from retirement.
- 2:41He still wants to compete.
- 2:44I'm missing that part, but there it is.
- 2:47Okay, got to scroll.
- 2:49That's what you got to do on a Friday.
- 2:51Now that I'm fast becoming
- 2:52one of the senior citizens
- 2:53in the ranks of active elite competitors,
- 2:56I've been weighing up what
- 2:57to do once I hang up my shoes.
- 2:59Going deeper into coaching
- 3:00and operating a business
- 3:01with some of my best
- 3:02friends sounds like a
- 3:03perfect next step for me.
- 3:05But rest assured,
- 3:05I'm not even remotely
- 3:06considering retirement from
- 3:08competition yet.
- 3:09While I feel great and still
- 3:10love everything about the process,
- 3:12I will keep on competing
- 3:13and chasing my dreams on
- 3:14the competition floor
- 3:15alongside my new role.
- 3:19so super cool there um good
- 3:22to see him giving back to
- 3:24the community being a part
- 3:25of the community um really
- 3:27cool to uh you guys are too
- 3:32much man uh maybe kg will
- 3:36provide water now maybe
- 3:42Um, see me rolling.
- 3:43I know I hate you have an agenda,
- 3:45but can someone tell me why
- 3:47we can't say community anymore?
- 3:48And we're supposed to say culture.
- 3:50I missed the memo.
- 3:51I don't know.
- 3:52I must've missed it too.
- 3:54Um, I just, I still say community.
- 4:00Um,
- 4:00that's what it was when I started in
- 4:02and I'm old.
- 4:04So change is hard for me and
- 4:07I'll probably keep saying it for the next
- 4:12That's just how I know it.
- 4:13I'm sorry.
- 4:15So I must have missed it to see me.
- 4:16I'm sorry.
- 4:23Jake is in the house.
- 4:25I actually have you on my agenda.
- 4:28If you guys did not see the
- 4:29head-to-head yesterday with
- 4:32Kate Lawrence and Claire
- 4:34Bays on their show,
- 4:37that was some of the best
- 4:38internet TV I've watched in a while.
- 4:42What a competition right
- 4:44down to the very end,
- 4:46one rep difference between the two.
- 4:50Um,
- 4:53it was really fun to watch.
- 4:54If you get a good competition, um,
- 4:57with some fun people,
- 4:58it can be a fun thing.
- 5:00Uh, and so yesterday on, uh,
- 5:03outside the box show, uh,
- 5:05with Yon and Jake,
- 5:07that head to head was freaking awesome.
- 5:10Uh, one of the best thing I was,
- 5:11one of the best things I
- 5:12saw on the internet yesterday.
- 5:14So go check it out.
- 5:20Um,
- 5:26Okay.
- 5:29That was nasty.
- 5:30They both did great.
- 5:30They did.
- 5:31And that workout sucked for me.
- 5:35I'm a big guy.
- 5:39I was pretty much like Kate
- 5:40when I did it back in
- 5:41twenty with muscle snatches
- 5:44probably to start and then
- 5:46just died on the burpees.
- 5:51So.
- 5:52Yeah, great, great workout,
- 5:58great battle for them yesterday.
- 5:59That was freaking awesome.
- 6:02So the other thing is last
- 6:03night we had the NFL back.
- 6:06We did our fantasy draft
- 6:07here on Clydesdale Media on
- 6:10Wednesday night.
- 6:11I'm already out to a big
- 6:12lead against Joe Vela,
- 6:16and super excited to go
- 6:19into the weekend with that league.
- 6:22We have a twelve team league
- 6:24in the Clydesdale media universe.
- 6:26So it's going to be fun to
- 6:27keep up with that throughout the year.
- 6:30Super excited there.
- 6:33What else do we got?
- 6:36So much has been going on.
- 6:38Last night I went to Rudy Berger's house.
- 6:41Well, not his house, his barn.
- 6:43He has built a barn to be
- 6:47able to work out in because
- 6:51they're part of a community
- 6:53that has a very small gym.
- 6:55And that small gym,
- 6:58they didn't want to take up spots if...
- 7:01needed to get a workout in
- 7:02or whatever so they they
- 7:04went with some partners and
- 7:05bought a barn and built a
- 7:06little workout facility for
- 7:07them to be able to do some
- 7:09like some of their workouts
- 7:11in so they didn't have to
- 7:12worry about pushing people
- 7:13out of the affiliate and I
- 7:15went there last night and
- 7:16I'm just going to share a
- 7:16little bit with it it's
- 7:17going to be a full little
- 7:18video that'll come out
- 7:20probably in a few days um
- 7:23but here's a little snip of it
- 7:33And the play button is right
- 7:34behind what I know.
- 7:36What are your favorite parts of the barn?
- 7:37Yeah, so really my favorite parts are,
- 7:43actually I'll show you the
- 7:44best part here.
- 7:45If you walk over here and
- 7:47take a look up above,
- 7:49this steel I-beam that's
- 7:51installed there was part of
- 7:53a tractor engine hoist.
- 7:57that was originally in this
- 7:58barn and it was a really
- 7:59big contraption and we ripped it all out,
- 8:01but I wanted to kind of
- 8:02save a piece of it.
- 8:03And I was like, perfect.
- 8:04I'll mount it right at the
- 8:06feet height for rope climbs
- 8:08and bring muscle ups.
- 8:10And that'll be kind of like
- 8:12an old piece of the barn
- 8:13that we kind of look at.
- 8:13So it's kind of unique.
- 8:15It's like rusty and you know,
- 8:17cool looking.
- 8:18My favorite part is this post.
- 8:22that we get people to sign when they come.
- 8:24So you gotta sign it before.
- 8:26We make, we usually make people work out,
- 8:28but we'll, you know,
- 8:29you're technically working.
- 8:31So anybody that comes and
- 8:32visits gets to sign the
- 8:34post and it's just really cool.
- 8:37Some people are best to do,
- 8:38some people talk a little trash.
- 8:43But yeah.
- 8:44The triple.
- 8:46I can see that.
- 8:47Yeah.
- 8:49so that is um their barn if
- 8:52people don't know rudy is a
- 8:55three-time masters age
- 8:57group athlete champion um
- 9:00and podium in our fourth
- 9:01year so forty to forty four
- 9:03he has won it three
- 9:04different times and he took
- 9:06third in twenty twenty four
- 9:09so twenty twenty two twenty
- 9:10three and twenty five champion um
- 9:16Oh, I like the autograph post.
- 9:18Yeah, it's really cool.
- 9:19And his mentor and one of
- 9:21their friends is Scott Pancheck.
- 9:23So his his signatures on the post.
- 9:26Scott actually worked out in
- 9:28this barn right before the
- 9:29Masters games this year.
- 9:31They had some people come
- 9:32from out of town.
- 9:33They had someone come from
- 9:34Ireland and they all worked
- 9:36out in the barn before the
- 9:37age group CrossFit games.
- 9:39So it's a cool little thing.
- 9:40And they built like a little
- 9:41back hangout area with some seating,
- 9:44a barbecue pit, a place for a bonfire.
- 9:48So it can be like a total hangout.
- 9:50And Lana Marcin actually
- 9:54asked me to ask about master's camps.
- 9:57like training camps,
- 9:59and they're actually
- 9:59thinking about doing that,
- 10:00making it a place for
- 10:02masters athletes to come together,
- 10:04train together, do little training camps,
- 10:06and all that's in this
- 10:08little thing where we talked.
- 10:10And I pretty much just let the camera run.
- 10:13We talked for probably, I don't know,
- 10:15forty-five minutes or so,
- 10:17walking around where I recorded,
- 10:19and then I just got to cut
- 10:20it up so that it makes sense.
- 10:29Is Rudy in witness protection?
- 10:31Just kidding, Scott.
- 10:32Tell him to shoot video with
- 10:33the cameraman's back to the sun.
- 10:35So they don't have lights in
- 10:37the gym in the barn yet.
- 10:38They just got they just
- 10:40passed inspection maybe two days ago,
- 10:43three days ago, something like that.
- 10:45So we didn't have lights in the gym.
- 10:46Most of the video is shot on
- 10:48the back deck in the sunlight,
- 10:50and the lighting is much, much better.
- 10:52But for the beginning of it,
- 10:54just as they were kind of
- 10:55showing me around,
- 10:56it's a little bit dark.
- 10:58And that's on me, not on them.
- 11:01But I wanted to get at least
- 11:02some shots inside the barn.
- 11:04But most of this is done on
- 11:06the back patio with good lighting.
- 11:09And I'll just show you what
- 11:12most of it looks like here, Fergie.
- 11:15So you can see this is most of the video.
- 11:26So I did take that into account,
- 11:27but I didn't want to miss
- 11:29getting some shots inside
- 11:30the gym before we went out and talked.
- 11:43Um, so there, man,
- 11:46lots of buttons to push today.
- 11:49So I do want to talk and I,
- 11:50and I saw some stuff already in here.
- 11:53Um, I watched Mason Caitlin's, uh, or Kate,
- 12:01um,
- 12:01Mason Kate's show last night with John
- 12:03Wooley.
- 12:04I watched it in its entirety, um,
- 12:07during the rain delay of
- 12:08the football game.
- 12:11And, um,
- 12:12It, man, it was so frustrating to watch.
- 12:17It was so frustrating to watch because,
- 12:19and I need to pull out my
- 12:20phone because I took notes
- 12:22as I was waiting,
- 12:24and I wanted them to make
- 12:25sure I had everything.
- 12:26And I kind of said this in
- 12:27the chat on Savan.
- 12:30The pretense that they had
- 12:32was that because Will Morad
- 12:35was a nicer guy than Dave Castro,
- 12:38the WFP is better.
- 12:40And there's no logic to that.
- 12:44Nobody said that X company
- 12:47was better because their CEO was nicer.
- 12:50Like it's,
- 12:52are you doing the things it
- 12:53takes to be a better organization?
- 12:58And so when you're going in
- 13:00with that pretense,
- 13:01like everything else
- 13:02doesn't make a lot of sense
- 13:03then after that.
- 13:04And every question to John
- 13:06Wooley about it was very leading.
- 13:08They led with their opinion and,
- 13:12And then do they agree?
- 13:15Does he agree or disagree with them?
- 13:19And oftentimes he disagreed.
- 13:21I thought John Woolley
- 13:22handled the interview.
- 13:24They said it wasn't an interview.
- 13:25It was just a back and forth discussion.
- 13:30But Woolley handled it well.
- 13:31And he actually brought up
- 13:32some points that made a lot
- 13:33of sense to me.
- 13:35that haven't really been said out loud,
- 13:37and that is that really the
- 13:39WFP is a farm system for CrossFit.
- 13:43That is what it can be at
- 13:45its best right now is a farm system.
- 13:48Give opportunities to young
- 13:50athletes to see what they can do,
- 13:52give them competition experience,
- 13:54and prep them for the
- 13:56CrossFit game season later.
- 13:59That is what they can be at
- 14:00their best right now.
- 14:03Because the CrossFit Games
- 14:04have something that they don't,
- 14:05and that is a legacy.
- 14:07That all these kids growing
- 14:08up who want to be CrossFit
- 14:09Games athletes want to do
- 14:11it because Rich was awesome,
- 14:13because Matt was awesome,
- 14:15because Tia was awesome.
- 14:16And they want to be like that.
- 14:18They want to beat their records.
- 14:20They want to have that legacy.
- 14:23Champions want to go where champions are.
- 14:27And the WFP cannot, you cannot buy that.
- 14:34The other pretense that
- 14:36really fires me up is that
- 14:40they believe that they're
- 14:42doing well for only being
- 14:44three to six months in, whatever it is.
- 14:48You had fifteen years of
- 14:51watching somebody else do it first.
- 14:54You are not at ground zero.
- 14:57You watch these other people.
- 14:59All of your...
- 15:01C-suite people were in
- 15:03CrossFit and experienced it.
- 15:05They've lived it.
- 15:06They've watched it and they've seen it.
- 15:08And they told us because of that,
- 15:11they were going to be
- 15:12better and they were going
- 15:14to come out and be better.
- 15:16And that has not happened.
- 15:18You can't now backtrack that, hey,
- 15:20we're just getting started.
- 15:22You're the one that came out
- 15:23boasting that you were
- 15:24going to be better.
- 15:29It is utterly ridiculous,
- 15:31some of the pretenses they
- 15:32have in these conversations.
- 15:43And the biggest thing is
- 15:45they came out and said
- 15:46these things and didn't
- 15:47follow through with promises.
- 15:48And so now you've lost trust.
- 15:50We're not competing with CrossFit.
- 15:52Oh,
- 15:52we're going to have an affiliate system.
- 15:54That was the biggest...
- 15:57dagger in the heart of the
- 15:58WFP by them trying to copy
- 16:01the affiliate system of CrossFit.
- 16:03It's one thing if you come
- 16:05to compete with the sports side of it.
- 16:08I don't think people are as
- 16:10ingrained into the sports
- 16:12side as we think they are,
- 16:14but they are so ingrained
- 16:16into the methodology and
- 16:17the affiliate system.
- 16:21that is where you made the
- 16:24biggest mistake.
- 16:25And by jumping in and saying
- 16:28that you were going to be, um,
- 16:31not competing and then find out that, Hey,
- 16:33we're trying to sign up
- 16:34these affiliates and pull
- 16:36people away from CrossFit.
- 16:38That's where you lost it.
- 16:38Okay.
- 16:45Eric Mackey,
- 16:46any bait and switch is concerning,
- 16:47but multiple times bad.
- 16:49And they did it over and
- 16:51over and over again.
- 16:53So Will can be as nice as he wants.
- 16:55If he's being nice with lies,
- 16:58you're just digging
- 16:58yourself a deeper hole.
- 17:08Fergie, Wooly is a failed podcaster.
- 17:10He can call it whatever he wants,
- 17:12but it will cease before
- 17:13the end of the year.
- 17:14I thought he was dead on accurate.
- 17:17And whatever you want to say he is,
- 17:21I felt like at its best,
- 17:24it's a farm league right now.
- 17:26At its best.
- 17:28And I'm not saying they're
- 17:28going to be at their best.
- 17:30I think there's a lot of
- 17:31evidence that they haven't
- 17:32been at their best.
- 17:35But he is dead on that that
- 17:37is what they are right now at their best.
- 17:40And you could see Mesa like deflate.
- 17:44And you could see almost a
- 17:45light bulb go on with Kate.
- 17:47And that created some really
- 17:49interesting tension at the
- 17:50end of this video that they put out.
- 17:59A used car smells good for a
- 18:00couple months when you first buy it,
- 18:02just like WFP.
- 18:04I'm not sure they ever smelled good.
- 18:08The execution errors are a lot.
- 18:10And trust me,
- 18:12CrossFit has done them as well.
- 18:14But you as did the WFP have
- 18:17had the benefit of watching
- 18:19CrossFit make the mistakes first.
- 18:21So you shouldn't have made
- 18:22the same mistakes.
- 18:24You shouldn't have gone down
- 18:25the same road.
- 18:26It's ridiculous.
- 18:27It's ridiculous.
- 18:39So Vindicate says WFP can
- 18:41appear to be better by
- 18:41paying athletes large sums
- 18:43and giving volunteers free stuff.
- 18:44That will only last so long
- 18:46if you aren't making a profit.
- 18:47Once that ends, everybody will be upset.
- 18:50Well,
- 18:50I also think it's setting an
- 18:51unreasonable expectation
- 18:52that you can keep this going.
- 18:54Now, whether they make a profit or not,
- 18:57I don't think they care right now.
- 18:58I think they're just
- 18:59throwing good money over
- 19:00bad to try to beat CrossFit.
- 19:03But like I said, you can't buy legacy.
- 19:08You can't buy the rich
- 19:10history of an eight-time female champion.
- 19:14You can't buy Matt Frazier
- 19:16being the most dominant CrossFitter ever.
- 19:19You can't buy...
- 19:20the goat Rich Froning and
- 19:22what he's done for a
- 19:23community and for the sport.
- 19:26You can't buy that stuff.
- 19:29So it doesn't matter how
- 19:30much money you throw at that.
- 19:33CrossFit will always have that upper hand.
- 19:35And new athletes will always
- 19:37want to compete in the same
- 19:39venues that those legends
- 19:41have already done so.
- 19:58A farm league is to develop
- 20:00players for big leagues.
- 20:01WFP is where most athletes
- 20:02who can't win the games
- 20:03anymore go to have fun.
- 20:06Or it's for like the up and
- 20:07coming semifinal athletes.
- 20:09Since we've really wrecked
- 20:11the semifinal season, the regional season,
- 20:15there's no place for those
- 20:16younger athletes to get reps in.
- 20:19I think that's where it kind
- 20:20of becomes something different.
- 20:23um if it can and like I said
- 20:25that's only at its best
- 20:28it's only at its best wfp
- 20:39needs at least two seasons
- 20:40before fair evaluation
- 20:43And this is another thing.
- 20:45Everybody's like, everybody's so critical.
- 20:47Everybody's so critical.
- 20:48You're a new league.
- 20:49You want people talking about you.
- 20:51Now,
- 20:52do you want it to be for better things?
- 20:54Sure.
- 20:55But people are talking about you.
- 20:58You're getting media
- 20:59attention that most startups don't get.
- 21:03It's up to you to take advantage of that.
- 21:05It's up to you to change minds.
- 21:08And
- 21:10one from a storytelling
- 21:11point of view I don't think
- 21:12they've done that um and
- 21:16they've had other
- 21:18opportunities and the mist
- 21:20and missed out on tour stop
- 21:22two should have been better
- 21:23than tour stop one and I'm
- 21:24not sure that it totally
- 21:26was from it a viewing um is
- 21:29from a viewing experience
- 21:31or from a mistake experience
- 21:44I also wanted to show this here.
- 21:50I've been barking up this
- 21:51tree that the storyline is
- 21:55Who is above the line and
- 21:56who's below the line for the pro cards?
- 22:01Finally, someone did it,
- 22:03and it was morning chalk up.
- 22:04It wasn't even the WFP.
- 22:07It was morning chalk up,
- 22:08and they list them out,
- 22:09like James Sprague and Amy
- 22:11Kringle are winning their divisions.
- 22:13Several veteran pro card athletes,
- 22:15including Jeff Adler, Travis Mayer,
- 22:16Yonikoski, Emily Rolfe, Paige Semenza,
- 22:19are below the red line.
- 22:23Finally, someone said it.
- 22:27other than me.
- 22:28What I love is that the
- 22:31minute you're critical about them,
- 22:33they are just on the
- 22:34full-on attack that you
- 22:36shouldn't be critical.
- 22:38I've been critical about two
- 22:40areas with them,
- 22:42and I've been constructive
- 22:43in my criticism.
- 22:44And instead of listening,
- 22:45they just want to yell and scream back.
- 22:54attendance seemed lower,
- 22:55vendor village smaller,
- 22:56participation lower.
- 22:58How is tour stop two an improvement?
- 22:59I don't think it was.
- 23:02And that's a big miss on their part.
- 23:17They get way more attention than grid.
- 23:18They do,
- 23:19but they're not taking advantage
- 23:20of it in a positive way.
- 23:29The main issue or
- 23:30misunderstanding is that
- 23:30CrossFit is not a league.
- 23:32It's a one single event that
- 23:34has qualification system in
- 23:35place to get the best.
- 23:36Anyone is welcome.
- 23:37That's the difference.
- 23:39It's okay to have different
- 23:40formats in a season.
- 23:42And I think it would have
- 23:43been okay if they would
- 23:44have just came in and
- 23:44competed as a sport entity
- 23:46to try something different.
- 23:48Where they pissed everybody
- 23:50off is when they went after
- 23:51the affiliates.
- 23:54That's where... Before that,
- 23:57I wanted to see,
- 23:58could a different season structure work?
- 24:02And they keep blowing every opportunity.
- 24:09And then when they went
- 24:10after the affiliates,
- 24:11then everybody was pissed.
- 24:21So...
- 24:27Ken says,
- 24:28no one wanted to give WFP a shot
- 24:30more than Scott on day one.
- 24:33I'm sure other people wanted
- 24:34to give it more of a shot than me.
- 24:37But, you know,
- 24:39the critics of me when I'm
- 24:41critical of the WFP say
- 24:43that I've given up before
- 24:43the season is over.
- 24:45Well,
- 24:46I don't need to be punched in the face.
- 24:49Sixteen times to know not to
- 24:51get punched in the face.
- 24:52Seventeen, eighteen and nineteen.
- 24:59Grin understands and accepts
- 25:00what they are.
- 25:01WFP is trying to be like CrossFit.
- 25:04WFP is trying to beat CrossFit.
- 25:07And the problem is they
- 25:08didn't just come out and say that.
- 25:09If they would have come out and said that,
- 25:10maybe more people would
- 25:11have respect for it.
- 25:13But no, they hid behind things.
- 25:15And there it is.
- 25:19But I didn't want to devote
- 25:20this whole show to WFP.
- 25:23I just wanted to talk about
- 25:25what their show was like.
- 25:29And when they say things like,
- 25:31maybe we don't want to hear
- 25:34the criticism and we want
- 25:35to do it the way we want to do it.
- 25:36Well, that's all fine and good.
- 25:38But if nobody's watching now
- 25:39because you're doing it
- 25:40your way and not what the
- 25:42spectator wants to see, good luck.
- 25:47Good luck at all.
- 25:52Anyway,
- 25:52I want to get on to something else.
- 25:56because Rich Froning was on
- 25:57coffee pods and wads
- 25:58yesterday and Peter did an
- 26:00excellent job in that interview.
- 26:03Um, a couple points that came out of that,
- 26:06that I were almost,
- 26:09I knew that rich was kind of in a,
- 26:12I'm ready to kind of talk
- 26:15mode when he was on Savan a
- 26:16couple of weeks ago.
- 26:17And then with Peter,
- 26:19he just went the whole way.
- 26:21So Peter asked him about his
- 26:22relationship with Facundo and,
- 26:25He did say that Facundo is
- 26:26still on the payroll at mayhem,
- 26:28but they have not talking.
- 26:30They have not talked other
- 26:31than a few run-ins at the
- 26:33games and he called them run-ins,
- 26:35not like, I don't know.
- 26:39And they haven't texted in
- 26:41months ever since the Malik situation.
- 26:46So I found that very, very peculiar and,
- 26:50Peter then posed a question to him.
- 26:53If someone bought CrossFit
- 26:56and they put people like
- 26:57Dave in place and Dave said, hey,
- 26:59let's get together and talk.
- 27:02Would you be supportive of that?
- 27:04And Rich said, no,
- 27:06it's more cut and dry than that.
- 27:07I would think,
- 27:08where were you eight years ago,
- 27:10fifteen years ago to have
- 27:13these discussions?
- 27:17Which I found was very interesting.
- 27:18And he said, well,
- 27:19then who would you trust in
- 27:22those positions?
- 27:23And he said, someone from here.
- 27:29All of that was...
- 27:32It was that last piece of
- 27:33the puzzle that we got the
- 27:34beginning of with Siobhan
- 27:36and Peter pounded it home
- 27:38and got us the answers that
- 27:41I think we were all looking for,
- 27:43but almost now scared to
- 27:45know that that is where he is at.
- 27:49It appears that Rich's trust
- 27:52in the people either
- 27:55currently in position or
- 27:58trying to buy CrossFit are
- 28:01not the people that he trusts anymore.
- 28:04He is done trusting them,
- 28:06and he will only trust the
- 28:07people in his inner circle.
- 28:10And he wants a position at the table.
- 28:12He just doesn't want to be the CEO.
- 28:14He doesn't want the everyday job.
- 28:16He just wants someone to
- 28:18allow him a seat at the
- 28:19table to say how he feels.
- 28:23And I thought that that was...
- 28:27pretty telling interview that Peter got.
- 28:30And if you have not seen that,
- 28:32you need to go check that out.
- 28:37Probably the last twenty
- 28:39minutes of that podcast are
- 28:41freaking phenomenal.
- 28:49Do you think Rich is using
- 28:50his situation to break away from HQ?
- 28:52I think that Rich is making
- 28:55a power play to say,
- 28:57If you want your CrossFit,
- 29:00your future CrossFit to be successful,
- 29:02I better be involved.
- 29:06And we better have people in
- 29:07place that I trust.
- 29:12Yes, Jenny hit it right there.
- 29:14Felt like an ultimatum.
- 29:17If you are going to buy
- 29:18CrossFit and you want it to be successful,
- 29:20you better have me involved.
- 29:30uh david reed rich is not
- 29:32wrong though jody drama I
- 29:36am here for it yeah peter
- 29:43has been killing it lately
- 29:45his jason ainsley interview
- 29:47and his rich interview must
- 29:49must see television this week
- 29:56Jeff Paco,
- 29:56if you're looking to buy CrossFit,
- 29:57this is a big deterrent.
- 29:59I think it is.
- 30:01I think it's either you get
- 30:03on board with Rich in some
- 30:04way or he is going to flex
- 30:07his power and make it a
- 30:09difficult proposition to
- 30:10make it successful once you're here.
- 30:14The only caveat that was
- 30:15kind of like a bit of
- 30:17leniency on the ultimatum
- 30:19was that we would stay
- 30:21affiliated if our athletes
- 30:23needed it in order to
- 30:25qualify for the CrossFit
- 30:26Games or to qualify for
- 30:28their season or whatever that might be.
- 30:32That was the only caveat of like...
- 30:38But he said, if we did that,
- 30:40you would not see the
- 30:41CrossFit name on the door
- 30:43or on the signs.
- 30:52Aren't Dave and Rich working
- 30:53on a service cup together?
- 30:55I think they can work on an
- 30:56event together.
- 30:57And maybe, I don't even know if,
- 30:59my guess is if CrossFit's
- 31:00doing it any way that
- 31:02they've been doing lately,
- 31:03they just handed it over to
- 31:04Mayhem to run.
- 31:12Oh, damn, that's interesting.
- 31:13I still don't think Mayhem
- 31:15Fitness can replace CrossFit.
- 31:17I still think they need
- 31:18power of the word CrossFit,
- 31:20just in my opinion.
- 31:23It all depends on who the
- 31:23buyer is and what their plan is.
- 31:25I mean,
- 31:27I think that he may not be able to
- 31:32replace CrossFit,
- 31:33but he can be a hell of a disruptor.
- 31:52How many affiliates does Mayhem have?
- 31:56So from what I understand,
- 31:57and this is really just preliminary,
- 32:03is that they have about a
- 32:04thousand official Mayhem affiliates,
- 32:07but four thousand
- 32:08affiliates that do their programming.
- 32:13So they have some influence
- 32:14at different levels
- 32:16depending on what level
- 32:18that affiliate has signed up with.
- 32:25Sabrina,
- 32:25I haven't watched Rory and Angelo
- 32:27on the CrossFit podcast.
- 32:28Have you?
- 32:29I have not.
- 32:30I have a hard time with the
- 32:31CrossFit podcast.
- 32:33It's edited.
- 32:34It seems sterile.
- 32:36Um,
- 32:37the ones that I've enjoyed are when
- 32:39like Hobart goes live.
- 32:42Um, but the ones that are produced,
- 32:43I'm really having a hard
- 32:44time getting through.
- 32:46I just feel like it's,
- 32:49it's been edited or cleaned
- 32:50up or something.
- 32:52And, and once that happens,
- 32:54I'm not sure that I
- 32:55completely trust the conversation.
- 33:07My question from it then is
- 33:09what does he really want?
- 33:10Who in their staff does he want to be CEO?
- 33:15I'm betting that he is.
- 33:17And Peter tried to go there.
- 33:20That a lot of people have
- 33:21signed NDAs and there's
- 33:22been a lot of conversations
- 33:24in the background.
- 33:24And Peter said,
- 33:25have people come to you and talked?
- 33:27And Rich said, yes,
- 33:28there have been conversations.
- 33:30So my thing is he's talking
- 33:33to these people.
- 33:34They are going to be talking
- 33:35to him before they make the purchase.
- 33:48which in case the,
- 33:48none of it matters because
- 33:49they are still affiliated.
- 33:52They are still affiliated, but yeah,
- 33:56I mean,
- 33:57it's still going to be a disruptor and it,
- 34:03it,
- 34:05do you want rich talking about how
- 34:06great CrossFit is,
- 34:09or do you want him talking
- 34:10about how great mayhem is?
- 34:13Um, I think you want probably the former,
- 34:25Um, no offense to Richard mayhem,
- 34:32but I just left the gym
- 34:34after a year that I loved because of the,
- 34:36the mayhem affiliate program is,
- 34:39is extremely basic, redundant, and lazy.
- 34:42Uh,
- 34:42it felt like at four or OTC orange
- 34:46theory.
- 34:47Um, I don't know.
- 34:52What is the TLDR of the car?
- 34:56I'm sorry, Barry.
- 34:56I don't know what TLDR is.
- 35:00I'm old.
- 35:00I'm not good at acronyms anymore.
- 35:17I think about the affiliates,
- 35:20vindicates dead on.
- 35:21Only Mayhem knows how many
- 35:22affiliates they have,
- 35:23and the numbers are probably inflated.
- 35:39Ernie Garza says the
- 35:40programming has gradually gotten better.
- 35:44One hundred percent about
- 35:45the CrossFit podcast.
- 35:48Same Scott, yeah.
- 35:49Sorry, I'm way behind on comments.
- 35:51You guys are just blowing it up.
- 36:05David Reed,
- 36:06if I was looking at the business,
- 36:07I'd be talking to Rich for sure.
- 36:09I think you have to at this point.
- 36:11I think he's flexing the
- 36:12muscles that he has to make
- 36:15it known that he has some influence.
- 36:24If it sells to Malik,
- 36:24they will have more than CrossFit.
- 36:26Yeah.
- 36:27His philosophies now, like if I don't,
- 36:29I think that would be one
- 36:30of the worst decisions to
- 36:33sell to Malik at this point.
- 36:56Mayhem won't make or break CrossFit.
- 36:58Poor management and
- 36:58ownership by CrossFit will end CrossFit.
- 37:03Well,
- 37:03I think that's what Rich is implying.
- 37:05That he's only going to pull
- 37:07this string if he feels the
- 37:10latter part of your statement.
- 37:30uh jenny give him the
- 37:32advisory role he wants but
- 37:33he doesn't want a dave ceo
- 37:35it has to be someone at
- 37:36mayhem so then who I need
- 37:40that follow-up question
- 37:41asked yeah I think I think
- 37:44that peter tried but that
- 37:47was a that was a piece of
- 37:48the story that he didn't uh
- 37:51want to give up
- 38:01Who at Mayhem is qualified
- 38:02for the CEO position?
- 38:06I don't know their inner workings.
- 38:10So I don't really know.
- 38:14I have no idea.
- 38:16And I don't know who Rich is
- 38:17connected to that maybe
- 38:18isn't directly at Mayhem.
- 38:20But he did say here.
- 38:22So I don't know.
- 38:23That'd be weird.
- 38:23I don't know.
- 38:37Yep.
- 38:37Rich said mayhem, not a chaff.
- 38:39He isn't mayhem from what I
- 38:40know he is not.
- 38:43And Chaffee was part of
- 38:45those Malik discussions.
- 38:46And so I don't know what blew all that up.
- 38:50We don't know.
- 38:50We just know that Rich did a
- 38:53full one-eighty from supporting Malik,
- 38:56Chaffee, Facundo,
- 38:58and now that's flipped a
- 38:59hundred and eighty and he's
- 39:01walking it back and he's
- 39:03not talking to Facundo.
- 39:04He says that Malik's a nice guy,
- 39:06but not the right person for the job.
- 39:08And I'm assuming that that
- 39:09will include Chaffee in
- 39:10that group because he was
- 39:12part of that group initially.
- 39:17I don't think, I know you're asking Jenny,
- 39:19but I don't think Austin is CEO material.
- 39:26I think what Austin has done has been,
- 39:29he's been an awesome programmer.
- 39:31He's helped run an affiliate for Reebok,
- 39:34and he ran the affiliates for, what,
- 39:39a couple years at CrossFit.
- 39:51Wayne Short,
- 39:52people forget that the
- 39:53methodology will live on
- 39:55with or without the success of CrossFit.
- 39:57I think Rich said that as
- 39:58much yesterday on that interview.
- 40:02That he believes that we're
- 40:03all doing the methodology
- 40:05and that methodology is
- 40:06going to continue forward
- 40:08regardless of who's in charge of an HQ.
- 40:32I've told my clients to get
- 40:33ready to leave my services
- 40:34soon as CrossFit is being sold,
- 40:36and I can't possibly coach
- 40:38them if it's not the right
- 40:39owner in charge.
- 40:45Facundo doesn't want to be CEO,
- 40:47or so I've heard.
- 40:59David Johnson,
- 41:00I think that whoever ends up
- 41:01running CrossFit has the
- 41:03opportunity to right the
- 41:04ship and make all this null and void.
- 41:06It sounds like Rich is
- 41:07posturing in case the new
- 41:08owner runs it further into the ground.
- 41:13I think he's taken it a step
- 41:14further this time.
- 41:16I think he's been patient
- 41:17and he just doesn't want,
- 41:20he's just not willing to be
- 41:21patient anymore.
- 41:49uh mayhem he did mention
- 41:50austin has been in almost
- 41:52every role within crossfit
- 41:55I know that austin's been
- 41:56in a lot of roles I just
- 41:57don't think he's been like
- 41:59upper upper and but maybe
- 42:02that's okay maybe that's
- 42:03something different it's
- 42:04less I don't know
- 42:17barry says that austin has
- 42:18worked for h at hq for
- 42:20fifteen years that's a
- 42:21little bit misleading
- 42:22because a lot of that time
- 42:23was on seminar staff um
- 42:26austin ran his own reebok
- 42:28one affiliate in I want to
- 42:31say boston him and spencer
- 42:33and then they had the ham
- 42:34programming with him
- 42:36spencer and hobart um
- 42:41And then that got purchased
- 42:43as CrossFit affiliate programming.
- 42:46And they came on to do the
- 42:47programming for that.
- 42:49Then he went into an
- 42:50affiliate advisory role
- 42:53under Jay Dacoons.
- 42:55So even when he was in that role,
- 42:57he was under Jay Dacoons
- 42:59for that time period.
- 43:02And we actually had Austin on our show,
- 43:04gosh, maybe a year ago.
- 43:06And he explains all of that in that show.
- 43:22We need another podcast with
- 43:23Rich for Jenny's follow-ups.
- 43:26We do.
- 43:36And Jake says that Daniel
- 43:37Chaffee is a decent karaoke singer.
- 43:39That's good to know.
- 43:42One of the criteria to be
- 43:45the CEO to run CrossFit.
- 43:53Isn't the CEO just the face
- 43:54the board makes the real decisions?
- 43:56It all depends on the structure.
- 43:58Sometimes the CEO is a
- 44:00tiebreaker in board votes,
- 44:04which could give them a
- 44:05little bit more power,
- 44:06but it's all how you
- 44:07structure your board and
- 44:10how much power you give the CEO.
- 44:25Now Jeff Beko is getting crazy.
- 44:27Uh, Joe,
- 44:28John Wooley has a business
- 44:29background in a long time
- 44:30affiliate owner.
- 44:30Maybe he's a good candidate for CEO, um,
- 44:34business background.
- 44:36He's a banker.
- 44:38It's,
- 44:38it's a different business than like
- 44:39most businesses like this.
- 44:52Um,
- 44:54So anyway, I found that fascinating.
- 45:00I found that fascinating.
- 45:01And if you have not seen that interview,
- 45:03you need to go check it out for sure.
- 45:15So there.
- 45:18In a few months,
- 45:19they can probably just have
- 45:20ChapGPT as the CEO.
- 45:23It's my fear that we may
- 45:25already be heading down that road, David.
- 45:29I can't believe like where I work,
- 45:31how much they use chat GPT.
- 45:33We're not allowed to use chat GPT.
- 45:35We have to use other AI functions,
- 45:36but like they're promoting
- 45:38using AI where I work now.
- 45:41I hate it.
- 45:43It is so bad at writing what
- 45:45we have to write.
- 45:49So bad.
- 45:54So anyway, with that, man,
- 45:59this forty five minutes has
- 46:01flown freaking by.
- 46:04You guys are awesome.
- 46:06There's some things going on today.
- 46:07I know Suze is on the glint
- 46:08and things later today.
- 46:10I get what the programming
- 46:11is going to do an
- 46:12evaluation of the age group
- 46:14programming later today.
- 46:18And then I think this weekend.
- 46:22Mesa and Kate are going to
- 46:24be on with the Clinton that's tomorrow.
- 46:27So lots still going on.
- 46:29NFL season keeps going tonight.
- 46:32We have the chiefs and the
- 46:33chargers in Brazil tonight,
- 46:35and then a full slate of games on Sunday.
- 46:39Um, but yeah,
- 46:41I'm heading to Montana in a week.
- 46:43So I got to take my dog to
- 46:44my mom's house for sitting purposes, uh,
- 46:47this weekend.
- 46:48So I'm going to make a quick
- 46:49trip to PA drop Walter off
- 46:51there and then head back for next week.
- 46:55And then we are flying to
- 46:56see my daughter out in Montana,
- 46:59but we're going to keep the show going.
- 47:01So it's going to be fun.
- 47:06Corey says, CEO needs to be a CrossFitter,
- 47:07someone who has bathed in
- 47:09the blood of Daily WOD,
- 47:10someone who has had or
- 47:12currently has Fran Lung.
- 47:15I couldn't have said it better myself.
- 47:23Joseph Ramirez, if it's artificial,
- 47:25it isn't intelligent.
- 47:26If it's intelligent, it isn't artificial.
- 47:29Amen, brother.
- 47:32Walter for CEO.
- 47:35He's a son of a bitch, man.
- 47:37I'm telling you.
- 47:38I don't think you'd want him.
- 47:40If you think Dave Castro is a prick,
- 47:43Walter is way worse than that.
- 47:49Just for Ramirez,
- 47:50Mesa isn't going to survive
- 47:51the comment section with the glintons.
- 47:53She is.
- 47:55I mean, she's strong in her beliefs,
- 47:57and she doesn't let anybody
- 47:59change her mind.
- 48:01And she just keeps barreling forward.
- 48:04She's going to survive the comments.
- 48:06It's going to be us that are
- 48:07going to be pulling our hair out.
- 48:09I'm betting you.
- 48:12With that, guys,
- 48:13I hope you have a great
