- 0:10Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Catch twenty two podcasts with Evan
- 0:14Speaker 1: Lazar and Alex Barth Blazar and Lazarre. Hello, everybody nailed it.
- 0:19Speaker 1: He joined us always by our bard. Here is Evan
- 0:25Speaker 1: Lazar and Alex bars. I would put David Andrews in
- 0:29Speaker 1: terms of guys that I just enjoyed covering the most.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I would put David Andrews on my personal nout rushmore
- 0:35Speaker 1: up there with Devin mccordy, with Matthew Slater and those Yeah,
- 0:39Speaker 1: I know Matt Russ four, but I think that those
- 0:41Speaker 1: three kind of stand alone for me as just perfect Patriots,
- 0:46Speaker 1: like just perfect on and off the field.
- 0:49Speaker 2: All throw in there too. And this was one of
- 0:50Speaker 2: the first guys we ever talked to was Dante Hidawer.
- 0:54Speaker 2: He's he definitely knew how much.
- 0:56Speaker 1: We didn't know what we were doing.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Yeah, he was like, did you get one question something
- 1:00Speaker 2: like that. He's like, you can talk to me once
- 1:01Speaker 2: a week or something. Yeah, it was like it was funny.
- 1:04Speaker 2: He was always really good to us.
- 1:05Speaker 1: It's just kind of funny. Was that's a good you know, yeah,
- 1:07Speaker 1: giving us a little rookie moment. Yeah, he would do that,
- 1:09Speaker 1: and he was he was kidding, but he's also not kidding, and.
- 1:12Speaker 2: It had to be good, and it had to be good,
- 1:14Speaker 2: and I wouldn't answer.
- 1:15Speaker 1: I remember one time I tried to ask him another
- 1:18Speaker 1: question a couple of days later, and he remembered. He said,
- 1:21Speaker 1: You've already asked me your question this week. I'm not
- 1:24Speaker 1: answering it. He was kidding, But yeah, he's he's definitely
- 1:27Speaker 1: he was great. Yeah, he's definitely on that list as well.
- 1:31Speaker 1: All Right, everybody, Hello, Evan Lazar, Alex Barth, Patriots Catch
- 1:35Speaker 1: twenty two with you for the next couple of hours.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Good story time there, good good recollection of our our
- 1:41Speaker 1: young days on the beat. More that come in the
- 1:44Speaker 1: next five weeks, I'll tell you, Oh yeah, yeah. But
- 1:46Speaker 1: I think it's a good segue though, Alex, and we
- 1:49Speaker 1: got Alex Barth here, Alex behind the glass, Alex is
- 1:53Speaker 1: with me, and I think it's a good segue into
- 1:55Speaker 1: what I wanted to talk about off the top of
- 1:58Speaker 1: the show here with coming off camp two days out there,
- 2:01Speaker 1: I mean camp. We were both there for the last
- 2:03Speaker 1: couple of days of practice, and we early on in
- 2:07Speaker 1: our time, and I'll just speak for myself, I early
- 2:10Speaker 1: on in my time would come out in the spring
- 2:12Speaker 1: and just overrate everything that I saw this time of year.
- 2:15Speaker 1: You know, this guy's gonna be a star. That guy's
- 2:18Speaker 1: gonna you know, be he's gonna stink. You know, this
- 2:21Speaker 1: is my guy.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Now.
- 2:22Speaker 1: You know, we always make fun of Maurice Harris, but
- 2:24Speaker 1: it's the Maurice Harris of it all. We're making fun
- 2:26Speaker 1: of us, yes, for what we thought about. Good point,
- 2:30Speaker 1: good way to put that. So I get that there
- 2:34Speaker 1: there's that element of this whole time of year as always.
- 2:38Speaker 1: But the other thing that, you know, just along those lines,
- 2:43Speaker 1: like I really want to drink the kool aid with
- 2:45Speaker 1: this team right now because I am excited. I am
- 2:48Speaker 1: optimistic about what they put together.
- 2:50Speaker 4: Uh.
- 2:51Speaker 1: They they had a really good off season. They had
- 2:53Speaker 1: a really good off season, a good draft, good free agency,
- 2:57Speaker 1: they had a good spring. I thought the practices were
- 3:00Speaker 1: as energetic and just people buying in and there was
- 3:04Speaker 1: energy and there was buying and there was competitiveness even
- 3:08Speaker 1: during the team drills, you know towards the uh, the
- 3:10Speaker 1: big portions of practice there during the team drills where
- 3:13Speaker 1: you have offense defense on the field and everybody's off
- 3:16Speaker 1: to the side that isn't on the that isn't playing
- 3:19Speaker 1: and everyone's watching like there was a great energy and
- 3:22Speaker 1: back and forth to what they were doing. I'm sure
- 3:24Speaker 1: that tone is obviously set by the head coach and
- 3:27Speaker 1: his energy and his enthusiasm, which is infectious. And I
- 3:31Speaker 1: have the glass of kool Aid is like on the
- 3:34Speaker 1: table right like I poured it. It's on the table,
- 3:37Speaker 1: it's right there. I'm like about to pick it up
- 3:40Speaker 1: and drink it. What's your favorite kol Aid? Do you
- 3:41Speaker 1: have a favorite one? Oh? Man, I just the lemonade. Yeah,
- 3:44Speaker 1: I was gonna say lemonade.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I had a long day, but that used to
- 3:49Speaker 2: be a summer staple. Maybe I'll bring that back to
- 3:51Speaker 2: This is the analogy I came up. So did you
- 3:52Speaker 2: have like how did you have it? Because I used
- 3:54Speaker 2: to get or my mom used to get like the powder.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I used to have the pouches, right, isn't that where
- 3:59Speaker 2: their power? Just know?
- 4:00Speaker 1: We had like it was like a like a like
- 4:02Speaker 1: a powder, like a Gatorade powder, but kool Aid. Yeah,
- 4:05Speaker 1: and it was in like you know, plastic kind of
- 4:10Speaker 1: yeah yeah right right See I didn't I didn't like
- 4:12Speaker 1: that one though, because I always felt like I got
- 4:14Speaker 1: the ratio wrong, right, Like you had to nail the
- 4:17Speaker 1: water the powder ratio. Otherwise it is either too wired
- 4:21Speaker 1: down or it was too sugary.
- 4:22Speaker 3: It was our first science experiment.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Put sugar in, which probably wasn't the healthiest thing to do.
- 4:27Speaker 1: You would put sugar in the kool aid.
- 4:30Speaker 2: If I didn't get that already, I admitted it wasn't healthy.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Years old, I see what like this this is country
- 4:36Speaker 2: time for some reason.
- 4:37Speaker 1: But like yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I hear you. Yeah,
- 4:39Speaker 1: I used to do that. I used to have that
- 4:41Speaker 1: a lot with gatoring because I think it might have
- 4:42Speaker 1: been a little bit cheaper than buying the body. I
- 4:45Speaker 1: don't even remember that. Oh yeah, that I don't remember.
- 4:48Speaker 1: The other thing that was great about now we're totally
- 4:50Speaker 1: on a tangent side summer. The other thing that was
- 4:53Speaker 1: great about the Gatorade Power is that I went to
- 4:56Speaker 1: overnight camp and you could keep the gatorade powder. Didn't
- 5:00Speaker 1: need a fridge for the gatorad power, right, So you
- 5:02Speaker 1: could keep the Gatorade power powder in your bunk and
- 5:06Speaker 1: then you would take like a cup of it with
- 5:08Speaker 1: you to the dining hall and then you'd you know,
- 5:11Speaker 1: you could put water in it and now you have gatorade.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Oh I do remember, okay, I do remember that. I
- 5:14Speaker 2: don't know that, like we were hat in the house,
- 5:16Speaker 2: but I do. I do remember this.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Okay, So back on football. I want to drink the
- 5:22Speaker 1: kool aid. I the class is poured. It's there, it's
- 5:26Speaker 1: in front of me. I see it. I see Rabel's vision.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I see what he's brought to the table. I've honestly
- 5:32Speaker 1: really enjoyed watching Josh McDaniel's work again too, you know,
- 5:36Speaker 1: headset on play sheet. He just seems in his element,
- 5:39Speaker 1: whereas maybe as a head coach it was a little
- 5:41Speaker 1: bit different for him. But this seems to be his calling,
- 5:44Speaker 1: is to be an offensive coordinator and and be a
- 5:46Speaker 1: good one at that. We can't, you know, divulge too
- 5:50Speaker 1: much about the plays that they were actually running, but
- 5:53Speaker 1: the offensive were the offensive install in particular, I'm excited about.
- 5:58Speaker 1: I think there's a lot of wrinkles in there that
- 6:00Speaker 1: I was hoping that they were going to do, which
- 6:02Speaker 1: we can get into in a little bit. And I
- 6:05Speaker 1: want to drink the kool aid now. For the first
- 6:08Speaker 1: time though, and probably my entire Patriots fandom, like I'm
- 6:11Speaker 1: hardened by this team a little bit right, everyone knows
- 6:15Speaker 1: what they've been post Brady. You know, they have one
- 6:18Speaker 1: playoff appearance in five years. They're thirty three and fifty
- 6:21Speaker 1: one with one winning season since Tom Brady walked out
- 6:24Speaker 1: the door. So as much as I want to drink it,
- 6:28Speaker 1: my guard's up, Like my guard is legitimately up about everything.
- 6:31Speaker 1: But at the same time, if I just trust my
- 6:33Speaker 1: eyes and what I'm seeing you, Drake May made progressive
- 6:36Speaker 1: strides throughout the entire spring where he just got better
- 6:39Speaker 1: and better with every practice and you could see the
- 6:42Speaker 1: comfort level improving. And he even said, which I thought
- 6:45Speaker 1: was awesome, is exactly what you want to hear your
- 6:47Speaker 1: quarterback say, I don't want to leave. He literally said
- 6:50Speaker 1: he doesn't want to leave because they're making so much
- 6:53Speaker 1: momentum here in the spring. So as much as my
- 6:57Speaker 1: guard is up, my spring guard is up because I
- 6:59Speaker 1: don't want to, you know, overrate practices and shorts and
- 7:03Speaker 1: a T shirt, and we obviously know what this team
- 7:06Speaker 1: has been the last couple of years, So my guard
- 7:08Speaker 1: is up because of that. But this is as optimistic
- 7:11Speaker 1: as I've been. Specifically, I would say about the offensive
- 7:15Speaker 1: side of the ball and quite some time with this team,
- 7:17Speaker 1: because I really feel like by the end of the
- 7:19Speaker 1: spring you were starting to see some real great signs
- 7:24Speaker 1: about what this offense can be, especially from Drake May
- 7:26Speaker 1: and Josh McDaniels.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Yeah, i'd say for me, I don't even know if
- 7:30Speaker 2: it's like being hardened by the team as much as
- 7:33Speaker 2: it is. I don't want to overcorrect and know you
- 7:37Speaker 2: take so much from the spring and what does it
- 7:39Speaker 2: amount to.
- 7:40Speaker 1: And I also don't.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Want to be sit here and be that guy like, well,
- 7:43Speaker 2: actually none of it matters, yeah, right, because there are
- 7:45Speaker 2: bits and pieces that matter you pick through it. I
- 7:49Speaker 2: don't know that. Like, my level of optimism is about
- 7:53Speaker 2: the same. I like the moves they made this offseason.
- 7:57Speaker 2: I whether it be coaching, whether it be played like
- 8:00Speaker 2: I think they did. I think I gave him like
- 8:02Speaker 2: a beat, right, I think they did just about everything
- 8:04Speaker 2: they could do. The veteran wide receiver market was the
- 8:08Speaker 2: one thing that I was like, maybe they could have done,
- 8:09Speaker 2: but like, overall, really solid, especially from where they worked
- 8:13Speaker 2: where they are now is a significant significant improvement. So
- 8:19Speaker 2: I but for me, it's just like I don't know
- 8:22Speaker 2: how much I saw it, Like I guess the coaching
- 8:24Speaker 2: stuff was more validating the player stuff. They're not in pads,
- 8:27Speaker 2: We're not really sure. But that's not to say I
- 8:29Speaker 2: don't feel good about it.
- 8:30Speaker 1: I do. I just I felt good about it going in.
- 8:33Speaker 2: So it didn't The spring didn't change a ton for me,
- 8:36Speaker 2: other than maybe, like like you said, seeing how Vrabel
- 8:39Speaker 2: was about his business, seeing Josh McDaniel's work again, those
- 8:41Speaker 2: were probably the biggest takeaways for me.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Well, I agree, and I think the hardest part about
- 8:47Speaker 1: this job this time of year is determining what's real
- 8:50Speaker 1: and what's This is the spring and there's no pads
- 8:52Speaker 1: and there's no contact, and we're in shorts and T shirts.
- 8:55Speaker 1: But one of the biggest things that I think is
- 8:58Speaker 1: really important this time a year is procedural stuff. Are
- 9:04Speaker 1: they getting in and out of the huddle? Are they
- 9:06Speaker 1: lining up correctly? Are there a flurry of pre snap
- 9:10Speaker 1: penalties or errors, substitution errors, penalties, things like that. Are
- 9:14Speaker 1: guys jumping off sides all the time? There was a
- 9:17Speaker 1: little bit of that yesterday. I thought it got a
- 9:19Speaker 1: little bit loose in practice yesterday. But for the most part,
- 9:23Speaker 1: with out of the five practices that we saw in
- 9:25Speaker 1: the spring, it was really clean, like there weren't guys
- 9:29Speaker 1: lining up incorrectly. And then it's well, you know, this
- 9:31Speaker 1: guy went in motion when he shouldn't have, or this
- 9:33Speaker 1: guy is supposed to be in this alignment and he's
- 9:35Speaker 1: in that alignment. Now we got to re huddle. Now
- 9:37Speaker 1: we got to recall the play in the huddle, and
- 9:39Speaker 1: like all this kind of stuff. And I know that
- 9:42Speaker 1: sounds elementary and like it's these are professional football players,
- 9:45Speaker 1: they should already know how to do these things. Yeah,
- 9:48Speaker 1: but based off the last couple of years of what
- 9:50Speaker 1: we've watched, I'm telling you it's not that simple. There
- 9:53Speaker 1: are instances, especially in the last two camps, I would say,
- 9:58Speaker 1: where there was a ton of that kind of stuff
- 10:01Speaker 1: going on and to not see any of that just
- 10:04Speaker 1: allows you to get ahead of where they were this
- 10:08Speaker 1: time last year. And it really hit me yesterday when
- 10:12Speaker 1: we saw them doing some of their red zone install
- 10:15Speaker 1: and things like that during practice how far ahead they
- 10:19Speaker 1: are relative to years past. And I mean, really the
- 10:24Speaker 1: last two years. They are already doing things now that
- 10:29Speaker 1: is deep, deep, deep into the install that I just
- 10:31Speaker 1: don't think they ever really got to, especially this time
- 10:34Speaker 1: of year. Over the last couple of years, and that
- 10:36Speaker 1: just allows you to continue to build, and then you
- 10:39Speaker 1: come back for training camp and it's more putting in
- 10:43Speaker 1: some of the specialized plays or some of the creative
- 10:46Speaker 1: plays and some of the different things, and then just
- 10:48Speaker 1: drilling the base stuff because you already have the base
- 10:50Speaker 1: stuff installed. So that part of it, the cleanliness, the
- 10:54Speaker 1: procedural stuff. How far along it appears that they are
- 10:58Speaker 1: offensively in particular, I think defensively defense is kind of
- 11:01Speaker 1: defense this time of year, and you're not really doing
- 11:04Speaker 1: too much, But how far along they are? Red zone,
- 11:06Speaker 1: third down, like they've did all that over the last
- 11:09Speaker 1: couple of days, and they're already through all of that
- 11:11Speaker 1: kind of thing. So now that it's all about tweaks
- 11:14Speaker 1: and adjustments and adding and moving forward and continuing that momentum.
- 11:19Speaker 1: So that's the biggest thing that I take away from
- 11:22Speaker 1: this time of year, not necessarily who flashed and who
- 11:26Speaker 1: didn't and that sort of thing. I try not to
- 11:28Speaker 1: put too much stock into that stuff anymore. But is
- 11:31Speaker 1: it a clean operation? Is it a professional operation? Does
- 11:34Speaker 1: it look like it should? Do the players look like
- 11:36Speaker 1: they should? Do people know where they're going? Are they
- 11:38Speaker 1: lined up correctly? Are they getting in and out of
- 11:41Speaker 1: the huddle on time? There was a time yesterday where
- 11:44Speaker 1: they were a little slow getting out of the huddle
- 11:45Speaker 1: and Vrabel is like yelling at like, let's go right.
- 11:49Speaker 1: So those attention to detail things are definitely back with
- 11:53Speaker 1: this football team, which is really encouraging. That's what you
- 11:57Speaker 1: want this time of year.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know, people would ask me, well, does
- 12:02Speaker 2: it feel different than last year? And it you know,
- 12:05Speaker 2: I was kind of saying, yeah, yeah, I mean yes
- 12:07Speaker 2: and no, it's just so early, how do you know?
- 12:10Speaker 2: But I do remember one of the first things last
- 12:12Speaker 2: year that was a little head scratching was like they
- 12:16Speaker 2: didn't we've covered enough camps that we kind of know
- 12:19Speaker 2: when you sort of take the jump to the next
- 12:21Speaker 2: step and in any various number of ways. And it
- 12:25Speaker 2: felt like at times they were maybe a little behind
- 12:27Speaker 2: schedule with the install Now that was more in the
- 12:29Speaker 2: summer than the spring. But to see them get into
- 12:32Speaker 2: red zone and get into third down right away in
- 12:34Speaker 2: mini campus like okay, here we go, like they're taking
- 12:37Speaker 2: that next step. So the operation from that macro standpoint
- 12:42Speaker 2: and then to zoom in a little bit more like
- 12:44Speaker 2: you said, getting in out of the huddle, the substitution stuff,
- 12:46Speaker 2: things like that. I think there were a few penalties
- 12:48Speaker 2: yesterday that maybe went uncalled, but overall, penalty wise of
- 12:51Speaker 2: very clean spring like that kind of stuff is how
- 12:55Speaker 2: you tell that they're making progress.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Yeah, so all positive things, good things. Now I'll do
- 13:02Speaker 1: a little bit of a compliment Sandwich here. All that
- 13:04Speaker 1: was really positive for the first thirteen minutes of the show,
- 13:07Speaker 1: and I meant to every word. I think, you know,
- 13:09Speaker 1: like I said, the drink is the kool aid is poured,
- 13:12Speaker 1: it's right in front of me. I just need to
- 13:14Speaker 1: see I need to see some padded practices before I'm
- 13:17Speaker 1: starting to drink it, right, But it's right there in
- 13:19Speaker 1: front of me.
- 13:20Speaker 4: Now.
- 13:20Speaker 1: The one to make this a compliment, Sandwich. The criticisms
- 13:25Speaker 1: are just sort of the small sea concerns, I guess
- 13:27Speaker 1: is the better way to put it. That I still have.
- 13:29Speaker 1: And I'm still focused mostly on offense right now. One,
- 13:34Speaker 1: I don't know what this offensive line is going to
- 13:36Speaker 1: look like. I still am not one hundred percent sure
- 13:40Speaker 1: that their line is going to be significantly improved, mainly
- 13:44Speaker 1: because we haven't seen it in pads, so like that's
- 13:46Speaker 1: a big reason and I think a lot of this
- 13:47Speaker 1: time of year or two when you're not in pads,
- 13:50Speaker 1: like it's hard to pass block without pads on, you
- 13:53Speaker 1: really can't hit anybody. You're in a basketball stands and
- 13:57Speaker 1: just trying to kind of stay in front of guys.
- 13:59Speaker 1: It's clearly advance defense in that respect with the pass rush,
- 14:02Speaker 1: and it's basically third down every play because you know
- 14:04Speaker 1: they're running. You're not running the ball, so there's a
- 14:07Speaker 1: lot of advantages. But just looking at it on paper,
- 14:11Speaker 1: you have what I believe is probably the biggest hole
- 14:16Speaker 1: on in this you know, all twenty two right now,
- 14:19Speaker 1: and the starting lineup on both sides of the ball
- 14:22Speaker 1: at left guard. I have no idea what they're gonna
- 14:24Speaker 1: do at left guard. Now. They have bodies to throw
- 14:26Speaker 1: at it. It's not that they don't have options. I
- 14:28Speaker 1: just don't know if any of them are good options.
- 14:30Speaker 1: You know, Cole Strange probably right now is the leader
- 14:32Speaker 1: in the clubhouse. He's got the inside track if he doesn't,
- 14:35Speaker 1: if he stays healthy and all that momentum continues, I
- 14:40Speaker 1: do think he's probably gonna hold off everybody and keep
- 14:42Speaker 1: that job going into the season. But left guard is
- 14:46Speaker 1: a giant unknown right now at center, we probably know
- 14:50Speaker 1: what Brad Burry is gonna you're hoping he's gonna just
- 14:53Speaker 1: be a serviceable starting center. I don't think anybody's thinking
- 14:57Speaker 1: that he's going to be anything more than that. So
- 15:00Speaker 1: those are two spots on your interior. Morgan mos is
- 15:03Speaker 1: thirty four years old, just is what it is. Will
- 15:06Speaker 1: Campbell's a rookie, is what it is. He's a highly
- 15:09Speaker 1: drafted rookie, and you hope that that means that he's seamless,
- 15:12Speaker 1: but he's a rookie at the end of the day.
- 15:14Speaker 1: And then there's Big Mike, who is Big Mic, right,
- 15:17Speaker 1: So you put all this together, and that's my biggest
- 15:20Speaker 1: concern with this team right now. We know what it
- 15:22Speaker 1: looks like when the offensive line is so bad that
- 15:26Speaker 1: you just can't really function offensively. I don't know if
- 15:29Speaker 1: we're going to get to that point. Hopefully we don't.
- 15:32Speaker 1: But right now, if I had to say, what's my
- 15:33Speaker 1: biggest concern on this team, it's still the offensive line.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Yeah, there's still a lot of unknowns there. And look, I
- 15:38Speaker 2: think I was talking to somebody about this. Guess say,
- 15:42Speaker 2: like I think they're in a much better spot on
- 15:44Speaker 2: the offensive line than they were last year. I think
- 15:45Speaker 2: they're significantly improved, but I still think that there are
- 15:50Speaker 2: concerns with that group.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Both of those can be true.
- 15:52Speaker 2: It's more just kind of an indictment on where they
- 15:55Speaker 2: were last year with it. But they have like this
- 15:58Speaker 2: time last year, you just did it left guard right,
- 16:00Speaker 2: We don't know, And I think even to say Cole
- 16:02Speaker 2: Strange is the favorite, like he was out there good
- 16:04Speaker 2: amount in the spring, but he was kind of after
- 16:06Speaker 2: by the fault, they weren't really you know, I city
- 16:10Speaker 2: so I was playing on the right side because Mike
- 16:11Speaker 2: when wine was limited and west Weis, who's I was
- 16:14Speaker 2: since retired, wasn't out there.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Tyres Robinson missed a couple of.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Practice at this moment, but he wasn't out there, so
- 16:21Speaker 2: we don't know would have been out there. You know,
- 16:23Speaker 2: Lane Robinson's the one guy that just kind of seems
- 16:26Speaker 2: like clearly he isn't getting the work. But you know,
- 16:29Speaker 2: last year we were doing that at both tackle spots, right,
- 16:32Speaker 2: who are both tackles.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Going to be?
- 16:33Speaker 2: And you at least know going in Like nobody's question,
- 16:36Speaker 2: where's Morgan Moses added thirty four years old.
- 16:38Speaker 1: It's a fair question.
- 16:39Speaker 2: But we know he's proven he can be in his
- 16:41Speaker 2: starting caliber right tackle in the NFL. Will Campbell, Yeah,
- 16:44Speaker 2: there's it's based on potential, but he was the fourth
- 16:47Speaker 2: overall pick for a reason.
- 16:48Speaker 1: He's a very technically skilled guy.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Like you're looking at upside there with Brad Berry, I
- 16:53Speaker 2: think I still think that's a battle with him at
- 16:55Speaker 2: Jared Wilson. It was limited the spring, so we didn't
- 16:57Speaker 2: get to see much of him, But like you feel
- 16:59Speaker 2: like you're gonna.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Be able to get a starter there, there is.
- 17:02Speaker 2: There is much more of a foundation from where they
- 17:04Speaker 2: were last year. That doesn't mean it's gonna be great,
- 17:07Speaker 2: but I just think you're gonna be able to build
- 17:08Speaker 2: more continuity and in that continuity, even if it's not
- 17:10Speaker 2: the best group. What was it How many games was
- 17:13Speaker 2: it last year before they used the same offensive line
- 17:15Speaker 2: back to back games? It was deep into the season
- 17:19Speaker 2: like that. You know, injuries or injuries, but just in
- 17:23Speaker 2: terms of swapping guys in and out, that shouldn't be
- 17:25Speaker 2: a problem last year, And you can raise the level
- 17:28Speaker 2: of the group, even if individually you know you don't
- 17:30Speaker 2: have five great players across. If you get guys that
- 17:33Speaker 2: are consistently out there working together, starting in camp and
- 17:35Speaker 2: going through the season, that can make the group better.
- 17:38Speaker 2: I know Kegan Steve Stifle from Steve wil firmness and
- 17:42Speaker 2: has it, so I'll find the oh this stat yeah, I.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Well, he was charting it every week last year. It's
- 17:48Speaker 1: a good point that with continuity and hopefully the same
- 17:52Speaker 1: set of five guys and see it through the same
- 17:54Speaker 1: set of eyes and all that that good stuff, that
- 17:57Speaker 1: the talent level could be better than. Was that saying
- 18:01Speaker 1: that the whole could be better than the some of
- 18:03Speaker 1: the park, better than the sum of their part. Yeah,
- 18:05Speaker 1: So that there's that potential. I always look at it
- 18:08Speaker 1: from a defensive perspective though, and when you talk about
- 18:11Speaker 1: the offensive line, you're always looking for like where's the
- 18:14Speaker 1: weak link that we can attack? And even teams that
- 18:18Speaker 1: have great offensive lines, it's always about almost like who's
- 18:22Speaker 1: your weakest link and how bad is that guy? Right?
- 18:25Speaker 1: Because if it's a if that player is below replacement
- 18:29Speaker 1: level and you're going out there Week one against the
- 18:33Speaker 1: Las Vegas Raiders and they have Max Crosby, all the
- 18:36Speaker 1: Raiders are gonna do is line up Max Crosby over
- 18:38Speaker 1: your weakest link and they're just gonna have him rush
- 18:41Speaker 1: twenty times over your weakest link on the offensive line,
- 18:45Speaker 1: and they're gonna expose that. So the good news is
- 18:48Speaker 1: for the offensive line, they have bodies. I'm not concerned about.
- 18:52Speaker 1: They just don't have anybody to play here.
- 18:54Speaker 2: So Week ten was Week ten was the first time
- 18:57Speaker 2: they used to repeat line last year, but it was
- 18:58Speaker 2: eight to ten. They didn't use it back to back weeks.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Week ten and eleven was the first time they used
- 19:03Speaker 2: the same offensive line and back to back weeks. Yeah,
- 19:05Speaker 2: that sounds the Darian Lowe, Michael Jordan, Ben Brown, Mike
- 19:07Speaker 2: oh and Winnho Demntro Jacobs. Yeah, we're better. They're beyond that, honestly.
- 19:12Speaker 2: How many Well, Michael Jordan's obviously not here anymore. Yeah,
- 19:16Speaker 2: there's a real chance only one of those five guys
- 19:18Speaker 2: is on the team this year. Michael went who's gonna
- 19:20Speaker 2: make team obviously, right, Ben Brown I think is right
- 19:22Speaker 2: on the bubble. Jacob's and low like they they brought
- 19:26Speaker 2: in backup tackles to compete too.
- 19:28Speaker 1: So there's a chance that one of those five guys
- 19:31Speaker 1: is on the team this year. They're in much better
- 19:33Speaker 1: shape than that. Yeah, there's no doubt about that. Now.
- 19:36Speaker 1: The other thing is we've talked about in the past.
- 19:40Speaker 1: You can cover up one hole on the offensive line
- 19:43Speaker 1: if you have one week link. There's ways to cover
- 19:45Speaker 1: it up. It's honestly probably easier to do it on
- 19:48Speaker 1: the interior than it is at tackle. Yes, because you
- 19:50Speaker 1: can use the center. You know that you can put
- 19:52Speaker 1: him in the slide side and not the man's side,
- 19:54Speaker 1: and that way there they have somebody coming over, you know.
- 19:58Speaker 1: So usually with protections you have three man slide side
- 20:01Speaker 1: and then the backside is man to man. So those
- 20:03Speaker 1: two guys on the backside are man to man. So
- 20:06Speaker 1: if you have to put Morgan, Moses and Mike Onwenu
- 20:10Speaker 1: one on one for a little while and then kind
- 20:12Speaker 1: of have the left side be the slide side, now
- 20:14Speaker 1: you can't be that predictable. You have to change it
- 20:16Speaker 1: up and the defense. The front also dictates like where
- 20:20Speaker 1: you're sliding and where you're man to mand and all
- 20:22Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. But in general, if that's like
- 20:24Speaker 1: the rule of thumb, then they can cover up for
- 20:29Speaker 1: a left guard that isn't the best. They can cover
- 20:33Speaker 1: up for a center, you know, Garrett Bradbury that has
- 20:35Speaker 1: some limitations because of his size and his play strength
- 20:38Speaker 1: and things like that in the past game. So you
- 20:40Speaker 1: can cover up stuff like that. It's doable. I just
- 20:44Speaker 1: it's another area of the team that I still think
- 20:46Speaker 1: that they're They're maybe one year away from truly fixing it.
- 20:50Speaker 1: They made strides this offseason, but now there's other holes
- 20:53Speaker 1: that have presented themselves and things like that. Andrews gets
- 20:57Speaker 1: cut and retires. You know, left guard hasn't really gone
- 21:01Speaker 1: the way that they necessarily plan. Now. The two guys
- 21:04Speaker 1: at left guard, I want to mention before we move on,
- 21:07Speaker 1: Cayden Wallace, who saw some reps at left guard during
- 21:10Speaker 1: Mini camp, which I don't think is a small thing.
- 21:14Speaker 1: I think that's actually something we should focus on because
- 21:18Speaker 1: coming out of college at Penn State, there were a
- 21:21Speaker 1: group of people in the scouting community and in the
- 21:24Speaker 1: media who felt like he was a guard in the
- 21:27Speaker 1: NFL and not a tackle. He was one of those
- 21:28Speaker 1: tackle to guard converts types of guys. So we see
- 21:32Speaker 1: this a lot in college left and right tackles. They
- 21:35Speaker 1: just don't have the foot speed, or they don't have
- 21:37Speaker 1: the length, or they don't have something to play tackle
- 21:39Speaker 1: in the NFL, so they move him inside the guard
- 21:42Speaker 1: and they're pretty good guard. So I do think Kidd
- 21:44Speaker 1: and Wallace could be a pretty good guard. So maybe
- 21:46Speaker 1: he's a left guard. And I'm still holding out hope.
- 21:49Speaker 1: We didn't see him much this spring. He's limited with something,
- 21:52Speaker 1: but I still believe that Jared Wilson could be heard
- 21:55Speaker 1: from in this competition as well. Maybe he starts his
- 21:58Speaker 1: career at left guard instead of center. So those two
- 22:00Speaker 1: guys are younger guys that maybe have a little bit
- 22:02Speaker 1: more upside or unknown compared to Cole Strange, which I
- 22:05Speaker 1: think we kind of know what he is at this point,
- 22:07Speaker 1: So maybe those two could eventually push Cole Strange. I
- 22:11Speaker 1: have no idea, you know, it's just a spring. No
- 22:13Speaker 1: clue what's going on with Leyden Robinson doesn't seem like
- 22:16Speaker 1: he's someone that's right now at least in the plan.
- 22:20Speaker 1: And then Cities is still kicking around too. He's still
- 22:23Speaker 1: around and could be in that Jack Connelly and there
- 22:25Speaker 1: tim Jack Conley is a good one too, I mean
- 22:27Speaker 1: because he can you know, maybe not as a starter ultimately,
- 22:30Speaker 1: but like he can play four positions. Yeah, and he's
- 22:33Speaker 1: got tremendous size, and I think that value probably helps
- 22:37Speaker 1: him push for a roster spot.
- 22:39Speaker 2: And then if he's doing that, you know, again that
- 22:42Speaker 2: left guard competition's wide open, maybe he kind of sneaks
- 22:44Speaker 2: in there.
- 22:45Speaker 1: So the other thing on offense, you know, offensive line
- 22:48Speaker 1: is the biggest small sea concern right now for me,
- 22:53Speaker 1: because if you give McDaniels a functional offensive line and
- 22:56Speaker 1: a good quarterback, they have enough weapons that I feel
- 23:00Speaker 1: like he can mix it up and he can figure
- 23:02Speaker 1: it out schematically. It gives you almost like a twenty
- 23:05Speaker 1: twenty one vibe at that point, with maybe even a
- 23:07Speaker 1: better quarterback, so you might even be better than you
- 23:10Speaker 1: were in twenty twenty one. Twenty twenty one that the
- 23:13Speaker 1: skill positions were fine, but they weren't anything special. You know,
- 23:16Speaker 1: is Nelson agil or, Kendrick Bourne, Jacobe Myers, Henry Ormandre
- 23:20Speaker 1: still right. It wasn't like it. They were the seven Patriots,
- 23:24Speaker 1: like they had some guys, but it wasn't great. So
- 23:27Speaker 1: they were a good offense to you know, above average
- 23:30Speaker 1: offense that year. I don't see why they couldn't be
- 23:32Speaker 1: this year if they have the line play and the
- 23:33Speaker 1: quarterback play. The outside receiver spot still also feels like
- 23:37Speaker 1: a little bit of a small sea concern. They played
- 23:42Speaker 1: a lot of packages this week and in the spring
- 23:46Speaker 1: in general. It's a lot of Kishan Boodie, who I
- 23:48Speaker 1: like as a player. He's a fine player. But every
- 23:52Speaker 1: team is going to know they're gonna want to funnel
- 23:53Speaker 1: the ball through the middle of the field. Pop Douglass
- 23:55Speaker 1: caught like a million passes over the last two days.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Hunter Henry is going to be a big part of
- 23:59Speaker 1: the Stefan Diggs when he's healthy, is going to be
- 24:02Speaker 1: a big part of the things. And all those guys
- 24:05Speaker 1: feature or you know, I would assume are going to
- 24:08Speaker 1: be in those McDaniels, you know, slot receiver, tight end
- 24:11Speaker 1: over the middle, like that kind of role. So what
- 24:14Speaker 1: do they do They have anything on the outside to
- 24:17Speaker 1: at least make the defense respect it. Maybe that's Diggs,
- 24:21Speaker 1: Maybe it's Kyle Williams if he can emerge and that I.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Think they want Kyle Williams as the X. There's also
- 24:25Speaker 2: Mac Hollins, who we didn't I mean, he was out there.
- 24:27Speaker 1: But he wasn't in uniform. He's dealing with something who
- 24:30Speaker 1: we didn't get to see.
- 24:30Speaker 2: I think that's probably between you know, I almost wonder
- 24:34Speaker 2: if they want to move booty back to the Z
- 24:36Speaker 2: where he's the more natural fit and it's Mac Hollins
- 24:38Speaker 2: and Kyle Williams for the X.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Yeah, so Kyle Williams maybe the catch a camp of
- 24:45Speaker 1: mini camp with the bomb on Monday, right, he catches
- 24:48Speaker 1: runs right through the middle of his own defense. Looked
- 24:51Speaker 1: like it was cover two. Linebacker is trying to carry
- 24:53Speaker 1: him up up the hole, the pole runner, and he
- 24:56Speaker 1: just ran right by the linebacker and caught about a
- 24:58Speaker 1: forty five forty four forty five yard bob from Josh Dobbs.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Not press though, No, there wasn't where he's not contacted. Right,
- 25:07Speaker 1: yesterday we got into practice and he had a one
- 25:09Speaker 1: on one on the outside against Christian Gonzales and it,
- 25:13Speaker 1: you know, second team All Pro did second team All
- 25:15Speaker 1: Pro things. So I'm not saying like that's not to
- 25:19Speaker 1: be overly critical of Kyle Williams. He's a rookie third
- 25:22Speaker 1: round pick going up against a top five to six
- 25:25Speaker 1: corner in the NFL. He's probably gonna have some ups
- 25:28Speaker 1: and downs against Christian Gonzales. But can Kyle Williams get
- 25:31Speaker 1: off press? Can he get off the line of scrimmage
- 25:34Speaker 1: against physical press man coverage? At five ten one ninety.
- 25:38Speaker 1: He's got a great release package, he's got great quicklins
- 25:40Speaker 1: off the line, But when guys get into his grill
- 25:42Speaker 1: and get into his airspace, is he going to be
- 25:44Speaker 1: able to get off the line of scrimmage in you
- 25:47Speaker 1: know a good amount of time, right, you know, on time,
- 25:50Speaker 1: all those types of things. I think that's a question
- 25:52Speaker 1: mark with him. I feel like they're gonna always, like
- 25:56Speaker 1: with McDaniels, and I want to get into some of
- 25:58Speaker 1: the McDaniels stuff, They're always going to have that middle
- 26:02Speaker 1: of the field option. I just feel like he's always
- 26:04Speaker 1: going to find a way to get slot receivers and
- 26:06Speaker 1: tight ends and running backs the ball. Are they going
- 26:09Speaker 1: to have enough on the outside? It would be the
- 26:11Speaker 1: other thing to me when we're talking about the ceiling
- 26:14Speaker 1: of this offense and how far they really could go.
- 26:17Speaker 1: I like Keishawan Boodie, like I said, it still feels
- 26:21Speaker 1: like they're begging for more there though a little bit,
- 26:22Speaker 1: you know, And maybe again maybe it's just the fact
- 26:26Speaker 1: that Digs isn't in team drills, right, I think that's
- 26:28Speaker 1: part of it. Yeah, So maybe that and mac collins,
- 26:30Speaker 1: Like I think those are two guys that are going
- 26:32Speaker 1: to be involved that we didn't get to see how
- 26:33Speaker 1: they're going to be using. Yeah, okay, so Kampleman sandwich.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Those are my small sea concerns on offense. The other
- 26:39Speaker 1: positive I want to talk about on offense is just
- 26:41Speaker 1: some of the things that we saw already from McDaniels
- 26:44Speaker 1: and the different things that they're going to incorporate within
- 26:48Speaker 1: this offense. I'm mostly really excited about. I think there's
- 26:51Speaker 1: a little bit of everything. Honestly from what I saw
- 26:55Speaker 1: out of this offense or some of the old McDaniel staples.
- 26:58Speaker 1: I think for the most part, the quick game and
- 27:00Speaker 1: the shotgun package in the way they call the offense
- 27:04Speaker 1: from the shotgun for the most part, is gonna be
- 27:07Speaker 1: pretty much you're everyone's gonna kind of recognize it. You know,
- 27:10Speaker 1: you're gonna understand what you're watching. There's maybe a little
- 27:13Speaker 1: bit of West Coast flavor going in there from under center.
- 27:16Speaker 1: I think that's possible. Uh, And I still feel like
- 27:19Speaker 1: there's a dimension that maybe we'll see what Drake may
- 27:22Speaker 1: as a runner, you know, those types of things. It's
- 27:25Speaker 1: it's really what I wanted them to do. For the
- 27:27Speaker 1: most part, I really thought that what he showed at
- 27:31Speaker 1: least in mini camp and granted, you know, these are
- 27:34Speaker 1: base plays and we have a long way to go,
- 27:37Speaker 1: but it's encouraging. The other thing I wanted to point
- 27:40Speaker 1: out was there's a lot of stuff going on in
- 27:43Speaker 1: the backfield, like with running backs and stuff. I think
- 27:45Speaker 1: they're gonna be it's gonna be a big running back here.
- 27:48Speaker 1: There's a chance that we're pony expressing, you know, going
- 27:51Speaker 1: back to the sm days, right, Like, there's a chance
- 27:54Speaker 1: that that's happening. Oh wait, that's not why they're called
- 27:57Speaker 1: the pony express. Yeah, it is Craig James and Eric Dickerson.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Right, but not because of the formation. It's because they're
- 28:05Speaker 2: the Mustangs. No, is that what the pony is? That
- 28:07Speaker 2: why that sets called pony? Yes, I didn't actually know that.
- 28:11Speaker 1: I like, I like what I teach you something like that,
- 28:13Speaker 1: I feel did I feel like that's normally the other
- 28:15Speaker 1: way around?
- 28:16Speaker 2: I figured, Well, I figured that term existed before nineteen
- 28:20Speaker 2: eighty two.
- 28:20Speaker 1: I don't think so. I'm pretty sure that's why they
- 28:22Speaker 1: call it pony pony package anyways. Interesting, So I think
- 28:27Speaker 1: we could see some of that, and you could see
- 28:29Speaker 1: the complimentary skill sets because reminder Stevenson is that power back,
- 28:33Speaker 1: bigger back, and then they have these speedbacks with Antonio
- 28:36Speaker 1: Gibson and Trayvon Henderson especially that they compliment each other
- 28:40Speaker 1: really well and there's some different things they can do.
- 28:42Speaker 1: There's obviously a brock Lampy element to this as well,
- 28:45Speaker 1: a full back element that I think is going to
- 28:47Speaker 1: be there too, and in this offense. So there's there
- 28:50Speaker 1: was a lot going on in the batfield, like they
- 28:52Speaker 1: have different formations, different looks, you know, different personnel groupings.
- 28:56Speaker 1: It was it was interesting. I don't know what all
- 28:58Speaker 1: of it, if all of it will right right, This
- 29:01Speaker 1: might be let's just throw as much as we see
- 29:03Speaker 1: what yeh, try see what we can do. Yeah, see
- 29:05Speaker 1: what works. But there was a lot of that going
- 29:07Speaker 1: on as well.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, it's this is what we talked about when
- 29:13Speaker 2: they hired McDaniels, was it's going to be there's a
- 29:15Speaker 2: big variation. Seeing the Josh McDaniels offense doesn't really mean
- 29:19Speaker 2: anything because there are so many different iterations of it
- 29:22Speaker 2: and he looks like he's really empty the back.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, that's so that's my compliment, Sandwich. I
- 29:28Speaker 1: want to talk about a bunch of other things from
- 29:30Speaker 1: uh mini camp as well, So keep it going here
- 29:33Speaker 1: and then we'll take your calls and emails. See the emails.
- 29:36Speaker 1: I see the calls. We'll get to those in a
- 29:38Speaker 1: few minutes, I promise. But the other big talking pointer
- 29:41Speaker 1: storyline that we got to touch on coming out of
- 29:43Speaker 1: mini campus Stefon Diggs and seeing Steffan Diggs really for
- 29:47Speaker 1: the first time. We saw him at that ot A
- 29:49Speaker 1: right last week. So we've seen three practices now Stefon Diggs,
- 29:54Speaker 1: and I'm just talking about the football. He didn't do
- 29:57Speaker 1: any team drills yet and he's still not cleared for
- 29:59Speaker 1: He did like some team walked through, not any fold.
- 30:02Speaker 1: So I like to see that because that tells me
- 30:05Speaker 1: that they think it could be early, sooner rather than
- 30:09Speaker 1: later once we get the training camp. So they want
- 30:11Speaker 1: to make sure he's on the same wavelength in terms
- 30:13Speaker 1: of learning everything as everybody else. So that's a good side.
- 30:16Speaker 1: But I gotta tell you, even though his routes are against air,
- 30:19Speaker 1: when he was turning it on on some of those routes,
- 30:22Speaker 1: I think Mark Daniels posted a video of him kind
- 30:24Speaker 1: of opening it up in some routes against air type stuff,
- 30:27Speaker 1: and he looks great. I mean his leg, the injured
- 30:30Speaker 1: leg is clearly smaller than the healthy legs. Still, he
- 30:32Speaker 1: still got to add some like muscle mass back to
- 30:35Speaker 1: that leg. But the twitchiness and the explosiveness look like
- 30:38Speaker 1: Stefan Diggs to me, like he looked really good moving
- 30:41Speaker 1: out there, especially relative to how close he He just
- 30:45Speaker 1: tores acl in October, and he looks miles ahead of
- 30:48Speaker 1: other guys that we've seen in this position. So he
- 30:50Speaker 1: said his goal was to be ready for week one.
- 30:53Speaker 1: I'm not ruling it out. I think there's a real
- 30:55Speaker 1: possibility that he's ready for week one based off of
- 30:57Speaker 1: what we've seen.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Look, yeah, he's not one hundred percent yet, but he's
- 31:01Speaker 2: got what three months, right, yeah, to get there, and
- 31:04Speaker 2: he doesn't seem very far away. So I yeah, he
- 31:08Speaker 2: looks like a guy that could play week one certainly.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Yeah, So that was good. He talked yesterday for the
- 31:13Speaker 1: first time as well since for the in the spring,
- 31:17Speaker 1: since his introductory press conference goals to be ready week one.
- 31:20Speaker 1: I thought the other thing that stood out besides all
- 31:23Speaker 1: the other stuff, was the fact that there's a lot
- 31:27Speaker 1: of overlap for him and from Brian Dable which I
- 31:29Speaker 1: think you probably could have guessed. But right that helps,
- 31:33Speaker 1: It definitely helps. He said, there's some of the terminology
- 31:35Speaker 1: is slightly different, but for the most part the concepts
- 31:39Speaker 1: are the same. So they might call it something different
- 31:41Speaker 1: here than Brian Dable called it, but he's still running
- 31:44Speaker 1: the same rout. It's still those same mechanics of the row.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Whether there's an adjustment or there's a sight adjuster, or
- 31:49Speaker 1: whatever the case may be, it's all the same. So
- 31:52Speaker 1: that's good. I think he'll pick it up quickly. Looked
- 31:55Speaker 1: good out there. That could be the missing ingredient. Maybe
- 31:58Speaker 1: that would make me feel better, the whole outside receiver
- 32:01Speaker 1: thing that I was talking about earlier. So that's the fun.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Diggs the other there's one other thing on offense that
- 32:06Speaker 1: I wanted to bring up. Oh yeah, there's some scuttle butt,
- 32:11Speaker 1: some talk about Pop Douglas and where does he fit
- 32:14Speaker 1: into this whole equation fits I'll tell you that he
- 32:17Speaker 1: could he get eftin Chisholmed and you know, could he
- 32:20Speaker 1: be a surprise cut candidate if you will, like all
- 32:23Speaker 1: those you know, talk radio things that we do. That's
- 32:27Speaker 1: not happening. I don't think that's happening. I think that
- 32:30Speaker 1: that is we basically ruled that out this week in
- 32:33Speaker 1: my opinion. Now he is a jitterbug slot receiver in
- 32:39Speaker 1: non padded practices, so he should look great. This is
- 32:42Speaker 1: this is his time to shine like this is basically
- 32:45Speaker 1: glorified flag football. He should be a stud in these
- 32:48Speaker 1: types of practices. But to his credit, he was awesome
- 32:51Speaker 1: for two straight.
- 32:51Speaker 2: Down And we've seen him, We've seen it translate when
- 32:54Speaker 2: the pads come on before, so it's not like we
- 32:56Speaker 2: have nothing to go off of. He looked exactly at
- 32:59Speaker 2: home and the mcdan slot receiver role, all those slot routes,
- 33:03Speaker 2: and one of the things that really impressed me watching
- 33:06Speaker 2: him run routes this week was how well he was
- 33:09Speaker 2: adjusting the route based off the coverage. And you know,
- 33:11Speaker 2: all those those routes on the inside have a bunch
- 33:13Speaker 2: of options on them, and you're.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Reading leverage, you're reading man zone. You know, too high,
- 33:18Speaker 1: you're sitting here one high, he might be sitting someplace else.
- 33:20Speaker 1: You're breaking away from man. You're reading leverage. So if
- 33:24Speaker 1: the defender is outside of you, you're breaking inside. If
- 33:26Speaker 1: he's inside, you're breaking outside. Like all that kind of stuff,
- 33:29Speaker 1: and he was doing all of it pretty seamlessly, and
- 33:32Speaker 1: they were finding matchups for him. He's getting on linebackers
- 33:34Speaker 1: and stuff like that. In the middle field. It looked
- 33:36Speaker 1: like Edelman, Welker, Troy Brown, Dion Branch like. It looked
- 33:40Speaker 1: like all those types of guys doing it at a
- 33:43Speaker 1: really high level. He was open for two straight days
- 33:45Speaker 1: pretty much all the time, and that was really good
- 33:47Speaker 1: to see. I pot Douglas is a lock on this team. Yes, right,
- 33:52Speaker 1: he always was, but I'm not wrong to say that
- 33:55Speaker 1: there were people that were people sitting that those people
- 33:57Speaker 1: were wrong. Yeah, okay, I'm glad with his stat much that.
- 34:00Speaker 1: So those are my offens thing. Is there anything I missed?
- 34:02Speaker 1: I tried to jot these all down and make sure
- 34:05Speaker 1: we got to everything. Josh Dobbs had a couple of
- 34:07Speaker 1: nice throws. Josh Dobbs can. Josh Dobbs is a classic
- 34:11Speaker 1: veteran backup. In Mini camp, like Brian Hoyer was the same.
- 34:14Speaker 2: I was gonna say, he's no like Training Camp Brian
- 34:17Speaker 2: Hoyer was MVP one of the most fun things I've
- 34:20Speaker 2: ever seen. Yeah, training Camp Brian Hoyer stands alone. But yeah,
- 34:23Speaker 2: Dobbs definitely has some of that where he'll he'll go
- 34:25Speaker 2: out there and sling and he hit.
- 34:26Speaker 1: He had the deep throw to to Kyle Williams, yep,
- 34:28Speaker 1: I don't remember what it was.
- 34:29Speaker 2: He had one yesterday. It wasn't deep, but he'd fit
- 34:31Speaker 2: the ball in like a really tight window.
- 34:32Speaker 1: That again, you're probably not testing, but he's testing it
- 34:36Speaker 1: because it's it's practice and he knows his role and
- 34:39Speaker 1: looked fair. I thought, I thought, you know, he had
- 34:41Speaker 1: had a couple bad picks as well, but I thought,
- 34:44Speaker 1: there's he's got more live than arm than maybe I
- 34:47Speaker 1: thought he. It's always the guys like Josh Dobbs who
- 34:51Speaker 1: have a little bit of a time in the league
- 34:52Speaker 1: and a little bit of confidence and also just like
- 34:56Speaker 1: they don't give an f Like if Josh Dobbs was
- 34:58Speaker 1: a pick in this practice, does he care, No, he
- 35:00Speaker 1: doesn't care. Like he cares, but like it's not like
- 35:03Speaker 1: no pressure on Josh Dobbs to avoid turnovers and things
- 35:07Speaker 1: like that. So a lot of these veteran backup quarterbacks
- 35:10Speaker 1: in these practice they just rip it. They just rip it.
- 35:13Speaker 1: And all of them can throw like they're all NFL quarterbacks,
- 35:15Speaker 1: so they all have, you know, good arms, and they
- 35:17Speaker 1: can all put it there and all that kind of stuff,
- 35:19Speaker 1: especially when it's you know, glorified seven on seven and
- 35:22Speaker 1: there's really no live pass rush.
- 35:23Speaker 2: So yeah, he did make some good None of them
- 35:25Speaker 2: rip it like Brian hoyre No, he come out with
- 35:27Speaker 2: the dark visor and just Brian Hoyer and I say,
- 35:31Speaker 2: practice squad, not practice squad.
- 35:32Speaker 1: Training camp. Brian Hoyer was me playing Matt. I say
- 35:35Speaker 1: this a little bit tongue in cheek, like training camp.
- 35:37Speaker 1: Brian Hoyer what like had some moments that were like
- 35:43Speaker 1: Brady esque, right, Like obviously Brady was Brady, but like
- 35:46Speaker 1: there were times where Brian Hoyer would make just as
- 35:48Speaker 1: good of a throw, like you were just like, wow,
- 35:50Speaker 1: that was an absolute dime. Now Brady would make that
- 35:52Speaker 1: throw like ten times in a row, and that was
- 35:54Speaker 1: the difference. But like, yeah, Brian Hoyer is definitely all
- 35:57Speaker 1: training camp team. Josh Dobbs might be close. Josh Oobs.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Guy has some moments. He can put the ball, He
- 36:03Speaker 1: can put the ball on guys. Yeah, he can absolutely good.
- 36:06Speaker 1: Point oh really quickly. Also, before we move on to
- 36:10Speaker 1: the defensive side, running back, running back's interesting Trayvon Henderson
- 36:17Speaker 1: and Antonio Gibson feel redundant. Now there's still a role
- 36:23Speaker 1: for both those guys, right, that's not necessarily a bad
- 36:25Speaker 1: thing because they need to carry at least three. But
- 36:29Speaker 1: I was playing around with the roster projection. I know
- 36:32Speaker 1: you're playing around with the roster projection as well. Between Gibson, Henderson, Larison, Like,
- 36:39Speaker 1: those three guys are probably the most likely. Obviously Henderson's
- 36:43Speaker 1: going to be on the team, but those three guys
- 36:45Speaker 1: behind Ramandre Stevenson, those four are really what we're talking
- 36:48Speaker 1: about at running back. Those three Gibson, Henderson, Larison kind
- 36:52Speaker 1: of are very redundant, very you know, similar to each other.
- 36:57Speaker 1: Do they have room for all three of those because
- 36:59Speaker 1: when I was doing the rows for projection, I wasn't
- 37:01Speaker 1: sure if they needed to carry four.
- 37:04Speaker 2: I mean, I don't think it's a guarantee that they
- 37:05Speaker 2: keep all of them, but I certainly think they have room.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Especially you know, if you keep a guy like Marcus
- 37:09Speaker 2: Bryant or Jack Conley or King Wallas can play some
- 37:13Speaker 2: guard like that saves you an offensive lineman.
- 37:16Speaker 1: How many safeties are they really gonna keep? Maybe we
- 37:18Speaker 1: didn't really get to tight ends.
- 37:20Speaker 2: I'll use this as an excuse to talk about tight ends,
- 37:22Speaker 2: they may only keep two tight ends right away. Yeah,
- 37:24Speaker 2: because nobody from that third tight end group emerged this spring.
- 37:28Speaker 2: And look, there's still ways to go, but just just
- 37:31Speaker 2: looking at it, if you know, between CJ.
- 37:33Speaker 1: DePree, jahem Bell, G.
- 37:35Speaker 2: Scott, and Jack Westover and I think all like west
- 37:38Speaker 2: Over got a lot of run. I'm not rolling any
- 37:39Speaker 2: of those guys out, but none of them really had
- 37:41Speaker 2: any moments in the spring. You can get You're probably
- 37:43Speaker 2: not gonna keep all four on the practice squad. You
- 37:45Speaker 2: can get two of those guys to practice squad, maybe three,
- 37:48Speaker 2: and you can just elevate as you need and eventually
- 37:50Speaker 2: a roster spot will open up. So never really gonna
- 37:53Speaker 2: keep two tight ends to start fourth running back makes
- 37:55Speaker 2: a lot of sense.
- 37:57Speaker 1: When when I looked at tight end, I did feel
- 38:00Speaker 1: fel the same way. Do you need to keep all
- 38:02Speaker 1: those guys on the roster There are so many with
- 38:06Speaker 1: all the new rules, with the practice squad, with the
- 38:08Speaker 1: elevations and all that stuff. If you really feel like
- 38:12Speaker 1: you need a third tight end on game day, it's
- 38:15Speaker 1: pretty easy to just elevate that plan right now from
- 38:17Speaker 1: the practice squad for the short term and then there's
- 38:20Speaker 1: all Unfortunately, there's always injuries and ir stints and things
- 38:23Speaker 1: like that that open up roster spots if you feel
- 38:26Speaker 1: like you run out of elevations and you need to
- 38:28Speaker 1: put that guy on the fifty three man roster. So
- 38:31Speaker 1: there's definitely ways to go with that. But I agree,
- 38:34Speaker 1: I didn't feel like any of those tight ends really
- 38:36Speaker 1: separated themselves where if you're gonna be the third tight
- 38:40Speaker 1: end on this team, you're gonna have to earn that role.
- 38:42Speaker 1: It's not like just a we need to have three
- 38:45Speaker 1: tight ends, so we're just gonna put this guy on
- 38:46Speaker 1: the team. You're gonna have to earn it, especially with
- 38:49Speaker 1: the flexibility from the practice squad. Now, I'll give my
- 38:52Speaker 1: guy a CG dupre training camp because he's a pads
- 38:55Speaker 1: on guy, he's a blocker, he's an inline tight end.
- 38:59Speaker 1: I don't know if this time year is really c
- 39:00Speaker 1: G dupreeze time to shine. Probably not. But I didn't
- 39:04Speaker 1: think any one of those guys stood out either. So
- 39:06Speaker 1: the way I look at it, you know, Henry Hooper
- 39:09Speaker 1: definitely on the team at tight end, and then Brock
- 39:11Speaker 1: Lampy if they want to have a full back package.
- 39:14Speaker 1: There's only one full back on this team right now,
- 39:17Speaker 1: and that's what it felt like. I compared it the
- 39:18Speaker 1: other day to in lacrosse in high school when I
- 39:22Speaker 1: was on JV. We only had one goalie, so there
- 39:25Speaker 1: was no debate about who was going to be the
- 39:27Speaker 1: starting goalie. There's no competition because we only had one goalie.
- 39:31Speaker 1: So every single time they called the full back on
- 39:32Speaker 1: the field, there was only one guy on the ninety
- 39:34Speaker 1: man roster that was running on the field and it
- 39:37Speaker 1: was Brock Lampy. So you know, maybe that's the way
- 39:40Speaker 1: they go there with the tight ends and running backs.
- 39:43Speaker 1: It's a numbers game there as well. So moving over
- 39:46Speaker 1: to the defense, My biggest takeaway on defense from this
- 39:50Speaker 1: camp in this spring the health of Christian Barmore, and
- 39:54Speaker 1: in a good way. Christian Barmore looks like he's in
- 39:57Speaker 1: great shape. He looks like he's a you know, he
- 39:59Speaker 1: told us that green light, full go. He's got no
- 40:03Speaker 1: limitations whatsoever if they have twenty twenty three. Christian Barmore
- 40:09Speaker 1: not even thinking about Oh, him next to Milton Williams
- 40:12Speaker 1: and him next to Keyon White, like just Christian Barmore
- 40:14Speaker 1: in a vacuum. Going back to twenty twenty three form
- 40:17Speaker 1: is absolutely huge for this team. Not that I doubted
- 40:20Speaker 1: that he was going to be a full go, but
- 40:22Speaker 1: you still were a little bit wary with what happened,
- 40:25Speaker 1: you know, with the blood clots last year. That's not
- 40:27Speaker 1: a no joking matter, that's a very serious thing. But
- 40:30Speaker 1: it was great to see him and he looks like
- 40:32Speaker 1: he's in great shape, you know, running all around the field,
- 40:35Speaker 1: chasing down plays, getting in the backfield of course, like
- 40:38Speaker 1: we know he can. So that's a huge development. And
- 40:41Speaker 1: the two of those guys, him and Milton Williams were
- 40:44Speaker 1: attached to the hit the entire spring. Like those guys
- 40:47Speaker 1: were the two interior starting defensive tackles from wire to
- 40:51Speaker 1: wire this spring, and they would run on the field
- 40:53Speaker 1: together and they run off the field together. They're becoming friends,
- 40:57Speaker 1: I'm sure. But it was great to see Barmore as
- 40:59Speaker 1: a full go. TH's he looks like his old self,
- 41:02Speaker 1: which is great development.
- 41:03Speaker 2: Yeah, there was no ramp up, there was no I mean,
- 41:05Speaker 2: you wouldn't know just watching Praudice that this was a
- 41:08Speaker 2: guy that went through a major medical issue last year.
- 41:10Speaker 2: So that that was my big takeaway too. Well, that
- 41:13Speaker 2: was one of two I had on defense. He looks good,
- 41:16Speaker 2: he looks healthy, he looks ready to go.
- 41:17Speaker 1: I don't know what your other one is, but my
- 41:20Speaker 1: next one was the best player on the field for
- 41:23Speaker 1: the spring, Christian Zalez easily the best player on the
- 41:26Speaker 1: team throughout the entire spring. That's not surprising. He was
- 41:30Speaker 1: a second team All Pro last year. He is the
- 41:32Speaker 1: best player on the team. Yeah, until maybe Drake May
- 41:34Speaker 1: takes that next step, he's going to be the best
- 41:36Speaker 1: player on the team. And he's he just looked, I
- 41:41Speaker 1: would say, almost even better than he did last year.
- 41:44Speaker 1: And the one thing that he's added maybe to his
- 41:47Speaker 1: game is he's making a lot more plays on the
- 41:49Speaker 1: ball now. Maybe that's just because he was being tested
- 41:51Speaker 1: more because Drake May said he wanted to kind of
- 41:53Speaker 1: test him and he didn't want to let him off
- 41:55Speaker 1: the hook by not throwing his way and things like that.
- 41:58Speaker 1: But he had two picks on that practice that Drake
- 42:00Speaker 1: May had a couple of picks to start this spring. Yesterday,
- 42:04Speaker 1: we actually posted it on Twitter on Patriots Twitter handle.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Just a beautiful over the shoulder one handed to interception
- 42:12Speaker 1: staying over the top of a go route by Kyle
- 42:14Speaker 1: Williams he just looks like he's maybe is sending to
- 42:18Speaker 1: from second team to first team All Pro.
- 42:20Speaker 2: I was saying this yesterday on Patriots Beat, like the
- 42:24Speaker 2: next step, Like he's already in the conversation of is
- 42:28Speaker 2: he one of the best corners in the league?
- 42:30Speaker 1: Is he a top five corner in the league?
- 42:32Speaker 5: Right?
- 42:32Speaker 2: Which I think he is, But you know, people have
- 42:34Speaker 2: that conversation, So what's the step up from that?
- 42:37Speaker 1: Well?
- 42:37Speaker 2: Is he the best corner in the league? And is
- 42:40Speaker 2: he like if he takes that step, holy cow? Right,
- 42:42Speaker 2: and that's it, sir Tan right now, right? I don't
- 42:45Speaker 2: think that's a hot take. How big is the gap
- 42:48Speaker 2: between him and Sirtan or at least based off last year,
- 42:50Speaker 2: how big is the was the gap between him and Sirtan?
- 42:52Speaker 2: And do you think he can close that? I've said
- 42:54Speaker 2: this before.
- 42:55Speaker 1: Well, I don't know if you want to answer that,
- 42:57Speaker 1: but it's fun because they're similar players, Yeah, and they've
- 43:01Speaker 1: Christian Zalez has talked about Patrick Surtan being sort of
- 43:05Speaker 1: an idol or like an example for him that a
- 43:08Speaker 1: guy he's studied and a guy he's followed his career,
- 43:11Speaker 1: So they really play a lot of the same way,
- 43:14Speaker 1: you know, they're both man coverage guys. They're both guys
- 43:17Speaker 1: that can travel and and just take out your best player,
- 43:20Speaker 1: your best receiver. So I'd probably give the experience in
- 43:24Speaker 1: the edge a little bit to start tam. But the
- 43:26Speaker 1: only thing that I felt like was missing from Christian
- 43:28Speaker 1: Zalez's game, and it wasn't like a huge criticism or
- 43:31Speaker 1: anything like that, but could you make some more picks,
- 43:34Speaker 1: you know, more players, more plays of the ball. So
- 43:36Speaker 1: that's that's what I wanted to get to.
- 43:37Speaker 2: Is you mentioned, you know, is he getting more plays
- 43:40Speaker 2: on the ball in the springs, is getting testimony. I
- 43:41Speaker 2: think that's part of it, certainly, But I think the
- 43:43Speaker 2: other thing is there really was no need to throw
- 43:46Speaker 2: near him last Yeah, and now you get Carlton Davis
- 43:48Speaker 2: on the other side, Marcus Jones fully healthy, ideally in
- 43:52Speaker 2: the slot, Kyle Duggars, Brill.
- 43:54Speaker 1: Pepper's fully healthy.
- 43:55Speaker 2: By the way, Craig Woodson looks really good in coverage too,
- 43:57Speaker 2: really goodn't coverage specifically, So there's gonna be more times
- 44:02Speaker 2: where teams are gonna have to throw in his direction
- 44:04Speaker 2: because they're not gonna want to test these other guys.
- 44:06Speaker 2: So I think he will have an opportunity to make
- 44:08Speaker 2: more plays on the ball this year.
- 44:10Speaker 1: It certainly showed out this spring, and it was around
- 44:12Speaker 1: the ball a lot. You look at his box scores,
- 44:14Speaker 1: you know, from a charting perspective last year, like there
- 44:17Speaker 1: are games where he's targeted once, targeted three times, you know,
- 44:20Speaker 1: two times. I think the one gam where he's targeted
- 44:23Speaker 1: a bunch was that Cardinals game with Marvin Harrison Junior,
- 44:26Speaker 1: and he locked them down. So you look at those
- 44:29Speaker 1: types of games and it's like, well, he just doesn't
- 44:31Speaker 1: have the opportunities, so he may picks on the ball
- 44:34Speaker 1: like they're just if you're only getting targeted once or
- 44:36Speaker 1: twice a game, you're just not it's not gonna have
- 44:39Speaker 1: a ton of people, Matt.
- 44:40Speaker 2: I'm trying to remember this wasn't he like one of
- 44:42Speaker 2: the most targeted corners in football last year and people
- 44:46Speaker 2: are like, why is he being targeted so much? But
- 44:47Speaker 2: he'd like the lowest.
- 44:50Speaker 1: Uh, he might have been targeted a lot because they
- 44:51Speaker 1: played a ton of man, you know.
- 44:53Speaker 2: Eighty four he was the twenty third most targeted, but
- 44:56Speaker 2: among qualified corners completion percentage, I don't think I think
- 45:03Speaker 2: it was really.
- 45:03Speaker 1: Low top ten. I would I would guess like tenth. Yeah,
- 45:07Speaker 1: tied for ninth, fifty four point eight. So like, I
- 45:10Speaker 1: don't mind if his targets are high, target them all
- 45:12Speaker 1: you want. I don't care if he's not allowing completions. Great, yeah,
- 45:16Speaker 1: awesome when you have the number when you play a
- 45:19Speaker 1: lot of man coverage and you're man to man on
- 45:21Speaker 1: the number one guy, they're not gonna just not throw
- 45:24Speaker 1: to their number one receiver. It doesn't happen very often.
- 45:27Speaker 1: You have to be really that's that's prime Revus right
- 45:31Speaker 1: right right, But or you played Cincinnati week one, they're
- 45:34Speaker 1: not gonna just not throw the ball to Jamar Chase,
- 45:36Speaker 1: like they're gonna try to throw it to him, even
- 45:38Speaker 1: if Gonzo's on him, right, But it's yeah, no, that's Revas.
- 45:41Speaker 1: Was that guy?
- 45:42Speaker 2: Or remember when teams just didn't throw it non the
- 45:44Speaker 2: Osma off for like two years off reputation, and then
- 45:47Speaker 2: one year they're like, hey, maybe we should throw at
- 45:49Speaker 2: this guy again and see and then it turned out
- 45:50Speaker 2: he didn't have any more. So, yeah, gonzalso's twenty third
- 45:53Speaker 2: in targets and he was thirty sixth in catches.
- 45:57Speaker 1: Eleve it's a fun uh, it was a fun new
- 46:00Speaker 1: answered by Drake may And and a good point by
- 46:02Speaker 1: him of he's gonna see some targets in the season.
- 46:06Speaker 1: So if I'm just afraid to throw it to his
- 46:07Speaker 1: side of the field all of training camp, I'm not
- 46:09Speaker 1: helping him get back, and it doesn't help me get
- 46:12Speaker 1: better because he's going to be great coverage and I'm
- 46:14Speaker 1: gonna have to put the ball on a platter for
- 46:16Speaker 1: my guy. And so it's, you know, that whole iron
- 46:18Speaker 1: sharp and iron thing. And it's good that those two
- 46:21Speaker 1: are going back and forth a little bit. So Barmore
- 46:23Speaker 1: and Gonzo Arrow up looking good on the both those guys.
- 46:27Speaker 1: The other item I wrote down here not quite compliment
- 46:31Speaker 1: sandwich style on the defense, but similar the third down
- 46:34Speaker 1: pass rush. I think we saw a little bit more
- 46:36Speaker 1: of what they have in store for it over the
- 46:39Speaker 1: last couple of days they were in third down a
- 46:40Speaker 1: little bit more, it felt like. So I do think
- 46:43Speaker 1: that they're going to get into some of those you know,
- 46:45Speaker 1: five man like mug looks and things like that a
- 46:47Speaker 1: little bit more. Uh. You know, they did a lot
- 46:49Speaker 1: of overload in Tennessee where they would still be in
- 46:52Speaker 1: a four down line, but they have three guys to
- 46:55Speaker 1: one side of the center and overload that side, and
- 46:57Speaker 1: then you're gaming and picking guys and stunting and all
- 46:59Speaker 1: that good stuff to get guys free. But maybe you know,
- 47:03Speaker 1: they have a little bit more of a blitz package
- 47:05Speaker 1: that we saw yesterday especially. I would say they kind
- 47:08Speaker 1: of turned it up a little bit after the offense
- 47:10Speaker 1: had a good day on Monday, Rabel said, pre practice,
- 47:15Speaker 1: they did a lot of three man rush from the
- 47:17Speaker 1: red zone. He'll drop eight in the red zone and
- 47:19Speaker 1: Drake May was just kind of standing there with all day.
- 47:21Speaker 1: So yesterday they did the opposite, the kind of came
- 47:23Speaker 1: after him and the defense got a little bit of
- 47:26Speaker 1: a leg up there. I look at you know, Bar Moore,
- 47:30Speaker 1: Milton Williams gonna be on the field as much as possible,
- 47:34Speaker 1: especially on third down. I do think on White's getting
- 47:37Speaker 1: into that conversation too. Is being a regular on all
- 47:40Speaker 1: three downs. They're moving him around though he's not playing
- 47:42Speaker 1: the same position. Yeah, I've been handing the dirt mostly,
- 47:45Speaker 1: I just write, but he's playing inside, he's playing outside.
- 47:47Speaker 1: I think he's their chest piece. Yeah, I think he's
- 47:49Speaker 1: the guy they're gonna hnt matchups with X factor. To me,
- 47:51Speaker 1: like a big time X factor if he takes that
- 47:53Speaker 1: next step in this scheme, which is more aggressive and
- 47:56Speaker 1: more gaming and more to his skill set right worried
- 48:00Speaker 1: about rush lane integrity and holding the edge and all
- 48:03Speaker 1: that stuff that they did in the old system. If
- 48:06Speaker 1: he is just allowed to just tee off, I think
- 48:08Speaker 1: he could have a really a good year in that role. Now,
- 48:12Speaker 1: when they get into third down, how are they one
- 48:14Speaker 1: of their personnel around those guys gonna look like? Is
- 48:17Speaker 1: Harold Landry gonna be a three down player for this team?
- 48:19Speaker 1: Is that going to be Chaseon That's gonna merk? He
- 48:23Speaker 1: got a lot of run? Is there a chance still?
- 48:26Speaker 1: We didn't see it necessarily in the spring, but like
- 48:28Speaker 1: a Brandon Swinson or an Elijah Ponder or someone that
- 48:31Speaker 1: they just drafted, uh coming and breaking out into like
- 48:35Speaker 1: a third down pass rusher role, you know that Joshua
- 48:38Speaker 1: a type of role. I think it's probably Chason right
- 48:41Speaker 1: now that they have in mind at least for this year.
- 48:43Speaker 1: We'll see maybe if Swinson can take over that eventually.
- 48:46Speaker 1: But the edge rush is still something that I would
- 48:49Speaker 1: say somewhat unknown. Like the interior pressure. I feel like
- 48:52Speaker 1: it's going to be really good and maybe that's enough
- 48:55Speaker 1: that they can just flush the quarterback one way and
- 48:58Speaker 1: Landry or a chaseon just to clean up sacks. And
- 49:01Speaker 1: that doesn't necessarily mean you have to win your one
- 49:03Speaker 1: on one as that guy. You just kind of have
- 49:05Speaker 1: to be there and be ready. But do you feel
- 49:09Speaker 1: any concern at all about pass rush off the edge
- 49:12Speaker 1: in particular? I think Williams and Barnware and are gonna
- 49:14Speaker 1: get after.
- 49:15Speaker 2: Yeah, kind of like I said about the offensive line,
- 49:17Speaker 2: like it's better. That doesn't mean they're where they need
- 49:19Speaker 2: to be. It's more about how far away they were
- 49:22Speaker 2: last year. Ye Chazon's gonna play a role. He was
- 49:25Speaker 2: very involved. We didn't see a ton of Braden Swinson,
- 49:29Speaker 2: but that's another guy I'll be interested to see more
- 49:31Speaker 2: when the Pats come on.
- 49:32Speaker 1: I hope they find a role for Anthony Jennings. I
- 49:35Speaker 1: really do.
- 49:36Speaker 2: He didn't really have much of one in the spring,
- 49:38Speaker 2: and it is kind of square peg round hole with
- 49:40Speaker 2: this defense with him. We've talked about this, like, I
- 49:42Speaker 2: just think he can play. But they have and did
- 49:46Speaker 2: I mention Landry like and they have Langer so like
- 49:48Speaker 2: they have guys that can compete there. I don't know
- 49:51Speaker 2: that they have. Like we've talked about them getting that
- 49:53Speaker 2: coverage dictating wide receiver for so long. That same kind
- 49:56Speaker 2: of concept exists on defense, and you know, you might say, well,
- 50:00Speaker 2: Christian Barber, Milton Williams, those guys can dictate blocking.
- 50:03Speaker 1: Yeah, which they can, and that's not nothing.
- 50:06Speaker 2: But that's sort of like you know, a tight end
- 50:09Speaker 2: being your coverage dictating wide receiver where it's gonna make
- 50:11Speaker 2: a difference, like it's a factor, but it's not that
- 50:15Speaker 2: there are more ways to counter that versus if it's
- 50:18Speaker 2: a guy on the edge. It's a lot harder to
- 50:19Speaker 2: double a guy on the edge versus guy in the middle.
- 50:21Speaker 1: It's a lot eaer.
- 50:24Speaker 2: Yeah, and like sliding protections and things like that. So
- 50:27Speaker 2: there's still that like premiere pass rusher away. But the
- 50:32Speaker 2: players they.
- 50:32Speaker 1: Have there aren't bad.
- 50:34Speaker 2: I just don't know that they have that guy that is,
- 50:36Speaker 2: you know, they don't have their Matthew Judon.
- 50:39Speaker 1: There's a little bit of that with this roster right now.
- 50:41Speaker 1: And I don't yeah, in a better way than it
- 50:44Speaker 1: sounds because unlike Lash, you're like you're bringing up earlier
- 50:49Speaker 1: with the tackles where we didn't know who their starting
- 50:51Speaker 1: tackles were and that was not good this year. You know,
- 50:54Speaker 1: I would say twenty of twenty two starters or twenty one.
- 50:57Speaker 1: Like really, left guard is the only spot that I'm
- 51:00Speaker 1: not really sure who's starting right now at that spot.
- 51:02Speaker 1: Maybe you could make that case for X receiver that's
- 51:05Speaker 1: sort of still up in the air. Other than that,
- 51:07Speaker 1: I pretty much know who's starting everywhere on this team
- 51:09Speaker 1: right now. It feels like now for the most part,
- 51:12Speaker 1: they're like starting caliber players. Right The question is is
- 51:16Speaker 1: are they starting caliber players or are they really like
- 51:19Speaker 1: elite players, you know, maybe they're still missing some of that,
- 51:22Speaker 1: you know, edge rusher. I think it's one spot outside
- 51:25Speaker 1: receivers another spot where they could probably use still a
- 51:29Speaker 1: talent upgrade there.
- 51:30Speaker 2: I think those are the two, and I mean, we'll
- 51:32Speaker 2: see what happens in right tackle, but I think going
- 51:34Speaker 2: into when we start doing the draft, those are the
- 51:37Speaker 2: two spots we're talking about.
- 51:38Speaker 1: And then the other thing is just depth, and that
- 51:41Speaker 1: was the next thing I wanted to talk about. Defensive
- 51:44Speaker 1: line depth, inside linebacker depth. Those are two spots that
- 51:48Speaker 1: I look at with this team that until we get
- 51:51Speaker 1: into the real meata training camp and we see some
- 51:54Speaker 1: of those guys. Now, I thought that there were some flashes,
- 51:56Speaker 1: you know, Joshua Farmer, I thought flashed a couple of times,
- 51:59Speaker 1: especially with getting hands and passing lanes and things like that,
- 52:02Speaker 1: made a couple of bad passes down in the spring.
- 52:05Speaker 1: I really liked what I saw from Jack Gibbons a
- 52:07Speaker 1: couple of times. You pointed out a coverage rep he
- 52:10Speaker 1: had yesterday running with Javon's line five yards down the field.
- 52:15Speaker 1: But that's impressive, Yeah, with Javon Baker, So maybe he's
- 52:18Speaker 1: a guy that steps in there. We saw a lot
- 52:20Speaker 1: of Robert Spulaine and Christian Ellis on the second level.
- 52:23Speaker 1: That seems to be the the right now the leaders
- 52:26Speaker 1: you know in the clubhouse to start. Certainly Robert Splaine's
- 52:29Speaker 1: gonna start. We know that whether it's Ellis or if
- 52:32Speaker 1: Julna Tevai comes back. You know, obviously to has been
- 52:35Speaker 1: banged up with that calf, so he wasn't He was there,
- 52:38Speaker 1: but he wasn't working out, wasn't participating. That that depth
- 52:43Speaker 1: can be thinned out really quickly. And I think the
- 52:45Speaker 1: same thing with the offensive line. If Will Campbell knock
- 52:48Speaker 1: on wood, if Will Campbell has an injury, you know
- 52:50Speaker 1: you're you're back into trade.
- 52:52Speaker 4: Right.
- 52:52Speaker 2: We talked about this like it wasn't just the starters
- 52:55Speaker 2: a tackle, they didn't have backups eas.
- 52:57Speaker 1: Right, So you know that we're still kind of in
- 52:58Speaker 1: that mode a little bit. But I wanted to focus
- 53:01Speaker 1: on the linebackers because we get tons of questions about
- 53:04Speaker 1: depth at insidelnebacker and after Splaine, what really is there.
- 53:09Speaker 1: They're really seem to be optimistic about Christian Ellis, like
- 53:14Speaker 1: I think they think he can be a weak side
- 53:16Speaker 1: linebacker and next to Spallaine, I mentioned Tobai and Gibbons.
- 53:21Speaker 1: After that, you're probably getting into a little bit of
- 53:23Speaker 1: great territory of whether those guys are NFL players or not.
- 53:27Speaker 1: Marte Mapu, So what do you like, linebacker? What do
- 53:30Speaker 1: you make of all that? Well, his body type certainly
- 53:33Speaker 1: fits it more in this scheme than it did in
- 53:36Speaker 1: the other scheme, because you're not in this scheme in
- 53:38Speaker 1: theory the defensive lines getting up the field. They're occupying
- 53:41Speaker 1: blockers and they're getting up the field with that, and
- 53:44Speaker 1: so you're not necessarily taken on guards or polers or
- 53:48Speaker 1: full backs or whatever in the whole like Juwan Bentley
- 53:52Speaker 1: Wood or a Dante High, Tower Wood or one of
- 53:55Speaker 1: those types of guys, so you can be lighter in
- 53:57Speaker 1: this defense at linebacker. I've always thought he was a linebacker,
- 54:01Speaker 1: like a modern day NFL linebacker, maybe mostly on third downs,
- 54:06Speaker 1: but if you can put a linebacker in that spot,
- 54:09Speaker 1: you know, a safety body type that's playing linebacker like
- 54:12Speaker 1: a Marte. Mapu just says things that you can do
- 54:15Speaker 1: in theory, in theory because of the body type and
- 54:18Speaker 1: the skill set, but things that you can do and
- 54:20Speaker 1: from a coverage standpoint with that player become a lot more.
- 54:23Speaker 1: You become a lot more flexible. You just do you know,
- 54:26Speaker 1: if you want to play some split safety coverage for example,
- 54:29Speaker 1: like he can run the middle of the field, you know,
- 54:32Speaker 1: with a faster receiver, with an inside receiver, with a
- 54:35Speaker 1: pass catching tight end. If you want to put him
- 54:37Speaker 1: a man to man on a running back coming out
- 54:40Speaker 1: of the backfield, then he has a little bit more
- 54:42Speaker 1: coverage upside maybe than a true linebacker like a Tavai would,
- 54:46Speaker 1: for example, to cover a decent running back coming out
- 54:49Speaker 1: of the backfield. There's just a little bit more that
- 54:51Speaker 1: you can do there with him in coverage. Now, I
- 54:55Speaker 1: don't necessarily see it in terms of him being like
- 54:57Speaker 1: a first down, you know, first and second down run player.
- 55:01Speaker 1: I don't know if that will work out, but if
- 55:04Speaker 1: he's in the third down package and he's playing at
- 55:06Speaker 1: the second level and the third down package, there could
- 55:08Speaker 1: be a role there for him. I've always thought that.
- 55:10Speaker 1: I've always felt like that's where he belonged. Yeah, it's
- 55:13Speaker 1: just a matter of what do they want with that
- 55:14Speaker 1: last linebacker spot. Do they want a downhill guy who's
- 55:16Speaker 1: kind of counter to what they have to give them
- 55:18Speaker 1: a different look, or do they want more depth for
- 55:20Speaker 1: the kind of players they have. Because if it's the
- 55:21Speaker 1: second thing, it's mopoof, it's the first thing it's to buy. Yeah,
- 55:24Speaker 1: it's a good point. Tavai and Jennings are sitting out.
- 55:28Speaker 1: We had Jennings on yesterday. He's a good guy and
- 55:30Speaker 1: I like Jennings, but both those guys still still kind
- 55:36Speaker 1: of stand out to me as holdovers from an old defense.
- 55:41Speaker 1: I don't mean old in age, I just mean old
- 55:43Speaker 1: the old defense in terms of what they used to do.
- 55:46Speaker 1: Are these schematic fits and what they're doing now they're
- 55:49Speaker 1: not bad football players like their NFL players like they
- 55:53Speaker 1: belong in the league, and everything. I just don't know
- 55:55Speaker 1: if they belong in this scheme. You know, Anthony Jennings,
- 55:59Speaker 1: is he a hand in the dirt end?
- 56:01Speaker 4: Like?
- 56:01Speaker 1: Probably not. You know, he's a stand up guy, He's
- 56:03Speaker 1: a set the edge guy. You know, Tavai is in
- 56:06Speaker 1: that hybrid role that I don't know if that exists
- 56:09Speaker 1: as much anymore. So those two guys definitely still stand out.
- 56:12Speaker 1: I could hear it with Tavai two in terms of
- 56:15Speaker 1: that as well. So you're right, you know, if they
- 56:17Speaker 1: want to really turn this over at linebacker to just
- 56:20Speaker 1: all two thirty two, twenty five and under type of linebackers,
- 56:25Speaker 1: and that's not him, you know, he's not going to
- 56:26Speaker 1: be on the team.
- 56:27Speaker 2: But again, I think there's something to be said for
- 56:29Speaker 2: having a guy that's maybe a little bit different for
- 56:30Speaker 2: certain situations.
- 56:31Speaker 1: Yeah, agreed. Now, the other spot on the defense that
- 56:34Speaker 1: I thought was interesting is what they were doing in
- 56:36Speaker 1: the slot. They're they're putting a lot of different guys
- 56:38Speaker 1: in the slot, a lot of different body types in
- 56:40Speaker 1: the slot. Some safeties, some big corners, some small corners
- 56:44Speaker 1: like Marcus Jones, a little bit like Pop Douglas. I
- 56:47Speaker 1: thought there was a there was some chatter about Marcus
- 56:49Speaker 1: Jones and does he still fit because of the type
- 56:52Speaker 1: of slot corner he is. I thought he had a
- 56:54Speaker 1: really nice spring. I still feel like he's in people's
- 56:56Speaker 1: hip pockets all the time in coverage. They used him
- 56:58Speaker 1: outside too, Yeah, as a strap player. So I think
- 57:01Speaker 1: Marcus Jones is going to be here. Certainly has a role,
- 57:03Speaker 1: you know, whether it's fifth or sixth defensive back slash
- 57:06Speaker 1: punt returner, that's enough.
- 57:07Speaker 2: Of a you know, Josh McDaniels is itching to get
- 57:10Speaker 2: involved on offense too. I also think, like I think
- 57:14Speaker 2: some of that conversation like, oh, he's in a contract here,
- 57:17Speaker 2: is he gonna get a second contract? I don't know,
- 57:19Speaker 2: but he'll be here this year. Like he's not a
- 57:20Speaker 2: guy you rush off the roster.
- 57:22Speaker 1: But I was intrigued by some of the different body
- 57:25Speaker 1: types that they were throwing at the slot position. Isaiah
- 57:28Speaker 1: Bolden and Marcel's dial got a decent amount of run inside.
- 57:31Speaker 1: Alex Austin, Alex Austen, Jail Pepper's got some run yesterday
- 57:35Speaker 1: in the slot. Craig Woodson was playing a little bit
- 57:37Speaker 1: in the slot at times. So they're clearly and they've
- 57:41Speaker 1: said it, they clearly are looking for somebody to be
- 57:43Speaker 1: a big slot and be someone that will be a
- 57:46Speaker 1: little bit bigger and have a little bit more sturdiness
- 57:48Speaker 1: to him than Marcus Jones. And to me though that
- 57:52Speaker 1: I don't necessarily know if that's going to be a
- 57:54Speaker 1: full time thing as more is it's gonna be game
- 57:59Speaker 1: plan and packagedify. So if they're going to play Miami, right,
- 58:03Speaker 1: if you're going up against a team that plays a
- 58:05Speaker 1: lot of bass, like you know, you know, a lot
- 58:07Speaker 1: of regular whether it's two tight ends or a full
- 58:10Speaker 1: back or something like that, Yeah, like you might want
- 58:12Speaker 1: to be a little bit bigger. You might want to
- 58:14Speaker 1: have a Jabiro Peppers in the slot or Craig Woodson
- 58:17Speaker 1: in the slot instead of a Marcus Jones in the slot.
- 58:20Speaker 1: Miami's actually one of those teams that does it. And
- 58:22Speaker 1: then that's how they win is they have the speed
- 58:24Speaker 1: on the outside with the bigger personnel on the inside,
- 58:26Speaker 1: and it's tough to match up against. So a lot
- 58:29Speaker 1: of these teams do that now where they put big
- 58:31Speaker 1: people on the field and then they throw out of
- 58:33Speaker 1: those big groupings and that's where they get you. You're
- 58:36Speaker 1: in your base personnel, you only have four dbs on
- 58:39Speaker 1: the field, but they have speed and they have playmaking
- 58:41Speaker 1: at receivers still even with a full back or an
- 58:44Speaker 1: extra tight end on the field. So where they go
- 58:47Speaker 1: with that, I think it's going to be a lot
- 58:48Speaker 1: of mixing and matching. But they're clearly looking to see
- 58:50Speaker 1: what's our best combination so that when we want to
- 58:53Speaker 1: go to the big nickel look, or we want to
- 58:55Speaker 1: go to a big slot, who's going to be the
- 58:57Speaker 1: big slot and who's going to be the best one
- 59:00Speaker 1: that role. I kind of could see it with your
- 59:03Speaker 1: real Peppers a little bit. I thought he did it
- 59:05Speaker 1: yesterday and did it pretty well. Craig Woodson had a
- 59:08Speaker 1: really strong camp. I don't know where they put him,
- 59:10Speaker 1: whether he's in the back end or they see him
- 59:12Speaker 1: as a slot guy as well. You know, maybe it's
- 59:14Speaker 1: one of those corners that we mentioned too. Where who
- 59:16Speaker 1: do you think is the best fit for that type
- 59:19Speaker 1: of role right now on this team? For the slock mark, Yeah,
- 59:22Speaker 1: for the big slot corner, the big slot, who's the
- 59:25Speaker 1: best fit?
- 59:27Speaker 2: I mean, I think Alex Austin's the best player, but
- 59:29Speaker 2: I think some of that is there's value and he
- 59:32Speaker 2: can be your third boundary corner and backup slot slash
- 59:36Speaker 2: big slot like counter to Marcus Jones.
- 59:39Speaker 1: So that saves you a roster spot.
- 59:41Speaker 2: But you know, is he as good in the slot
- 59:44Speaker 2: as Marcella's Dial? Probably not, But Dial's not going to
- 59:48Speaker 2: give you what Austin gives you on the outside. So
- 59:51Speaker 2: I think they might end up keeping both of them
- 59:52Speaker 2: and Bolden like they might keep six corners. I'm not
- 59:55Speaker 2: rolling that out, but and I've said this, I kind
- 59:57Speaker 2: of want to see Asa a Bolden play safety.
- 59:59Speaker 1: I think he'd be good at.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: I think Alex Austin makes the most sense. Dial's probably
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: the best pure slot corner of the group. But you know,
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: if we're talking about somebody to start, if we're talking
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: about somebody to be a counter to Marcus Jones and
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: be depth Alex Austin because he can do so much.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: Yeah, it'd be interesting to see what they go with that.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: But there they threw a lot of different bodies in
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: that position to try to find the best combination, at
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: least to experiment right now with those combinations. So they're
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: gonna have a big nickel look like a three safety nickel.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: It's just whether you know who's gonna be where it
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: is really good question. Who's going to be that nickel
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: player will be fascinating. It's it's a really cool evolution
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: to me just to get into like the nickel defender
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: in the slot role a little bit. It's a cool
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: evolution throughout the league of how that position has evolved.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: The Patriots deserve the credit. Josh McDaniels really deserves the credit.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: The two thousand and seven Patriots changed everything. They went
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: eleven personnel with the slot receiver Wes Welker, and they
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: forced teams to put a cornerback in the.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: Well, let's not forget they were able to do that
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: because the two thousand and three Patriots changed everything because
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: they were so dominant physically that it changed the rules
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: which allowed you to send a five ft ten over
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: the middle, which would have been unthinkable before that.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: So you get the you got eleven personnel, the three
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: wide receivers, you have the player in the slot. So
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: now the slot corner becomes a thing where they need
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: a man to man slot corner that can guard a
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: Wes Welker, that can guard a Julian Edelman, so on
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: and so forth. So that happens that of all, as
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: everybody kind of catches up with that. I would also
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: give Belichick, and I don't think he gets enough of
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: this credit from like a coaching perspective. When Patrick Chunk
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: came back the second time and he turned Patrick Chung
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: into a tight end stopper and started putting him man
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: to man on tight ends and playing him in the
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: box as that moneybacker, that I think that revolutionized it
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: again where Patrick Chung. So you had Patrick Chung doing
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: that and that sort of thing on tight ends and
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: playing in the box as a safety, and then we
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: sort of got into this iteration of the slot defender,
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: which is turning a lot more into safety body types
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: playing the slot because you have all the Shanahan inspired
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: teams that are running outside zone all the time. So
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: now the slot corners at the point of attack all
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: the time. The slot you know, defender nickel back is
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: at the point of attack in the run game because
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: they're trying to get outside the numbers in the run game.
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: So now it's like, all right, well, we originally we
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: needed to cover one hundred and eighty pound jitterbug slot receiver,
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: so we're worried about that. So the Jonathan Joneses of
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: the world emerge, right, and those guys become important now,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: k Kyle Arrington. Now the outside zone world has taken over.
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: So you got tackles and guards and blocking tight ends
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: that are getting up on one hundred and eighty pounds
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: slot corners. Well, that ain't gonna work, so they out
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: now all of a sudden, like the you know Cheucey
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: Gardner Johnson types, like the safety slots, Yeah, start to
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: become thing. Brian Branch, you know in Detroit, he starts
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: to become a thing. And now you need to be
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: a little bigger there, and you need to be able
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: to take on a blocker and you'll be at side
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: and bigger slot receivers like it got like Jacobey Mitay. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: it's good point too. You know, bigger slot receivers, pass
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: catching tight ends that are really just receivers, right, you
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: know Dalton Concaid types that are truly just pure receivers.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: So you have all these different things that are going on,
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: and it's cool how the game is so cyclical like that.
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: And now the Patriots are sort of in this different
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: type of defense and now they're looking for their Brian Branch,
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: Like who's going to be that slot safety that's going
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: to be able to play that role, you know, is
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: it Peppers, is it Dugger or is it Woodson? Is
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: it someone like that that's already on the team or
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: is this something that we look at in twenty six
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: Not that I want to lose that many games, but
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: Caleb downs, well, I mean now they're back in the
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: top ten tops hopefully not. Yeah, So that that's a
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: I mean maybe that's just me, but I can find
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: that kind of stuff cool.
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: No, the whole you know, I could do hours on that,
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: the history of the game evolving and all that.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: Last thing on the list, very bottom of the I
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: have like ten things listed out on my rundown. Here,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: we get it. You don't care, and it is the
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: very last thing on the list, and I'm gonna see
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: you up for it. Andy Borgoalis, looks like you can kick. Yeah,
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: looks good. Yeah he was.
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: You had a really good spring, closed it out yesterday,
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: went four to four, drill to fifty one yarder. I
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: think they're gonna keep John Parker Romo one just to
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: keep the pressure on and keep the competition up.
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: In two.
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: I think they're gonna want him on the practice squad.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: Is Essentially a lot of teams use a practice squad
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: now to have a backup kicker. You're not gonna have
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: two kickers on the fifty three, right, But now you
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: have a guy that has worked with your long snapper
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: and your holder and his experienced and it's kind of
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: tough to cut the guy and you know, mid August,
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: only to then bring him back after roster cuts if
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: he's even still around, and we'll come back.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: So I think Parker Romo is.
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: Going to be here, and with him being here, there
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: will be a kicker competition. They will both be kicking
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: and we'll obviously track it. But Borgalis has advertised so far.
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: So my question for you about kick it is not
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: necessarily about that because Borgolis what missed one kick in
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: the practices? I think it was nineteen for twenty, so
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: that is a number. I think Brian Hines put that
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: one out yesterday. So Ben Dynamite, Now, there's no live
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: rush right, truly live rush right, And there's no pressure
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: really like there's some pressure, but we're not talking about
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: eighty thousand people in Jillette Stadium in Week one, you know,
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: game winning kick pressure. So those are still unknowns, right,
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: You know whether he's gonna when he kicks with a
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: rush against him if it's just as good. But with
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: what we've been able to see, he's been great. Do
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: you have a like do you have weight on kickers too,
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: to like gauge that kind of stuff.
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: Well, the big thing with him is the weather, right,
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: And that's I mean, we can't no, we can't get it.
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: That's not a training camp thing.
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: That's on an early season thing like it's gonna Although
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: who knows the way these saturdays have been. Maybe we
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: will get to see him kick in fifty and raining
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: in July. Yeah, but that's just good. We're gonna have
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: to cross operation we come to it. I said this
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: at the draft. I liked his approach. When he was
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: asked about it, he did downplay it. He didn't because
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: I hate it when guys like, well, you know, they
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: get asked on that. Well, you know, kicking's kicking. Well okay,
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: but part of kicking is adjusting to the elements, and
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: the same for any position, whether it be in any sport.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: You know, you hear baseball players well you know in
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: the plane in the cold, Oh, you know, we get you.
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: You know, we play one hundred and sixty two games team,
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: but they're not all the same. So he didn't downplay it.
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: He said, yeah, I understand why people have that question,
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: but I'm looking forward to proving people wrong, which means
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: he understands it's gonna be adjustment. He understands's gonna be different.
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: You hope he's kind of mentally wired right that he
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: just goes about it business wise and doesn't let it
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: bother him. But that's just something we're gonna have to
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: see when we see it. There's really no way unless
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: they have a really, really really large walk in freezer
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: here that we don't know about that they can empty out.
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: That's just gonna be something that we're gonna have to
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: see when it comes up.
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: Is it that crazy to go Rocky style and go
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: in the walk in freezer? Because I've always thought that that,
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: But it's a possibility, right, Like why not?
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: So the Saints did that with their quarterbacks I think
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: last year before they played the package, So why not?
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: Like they cleaned it out and they brought a cup
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: a receiver.
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: They have the bubble right, and it's just like how
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: we get as cold as you possibly don't think you
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: can get that bubble that cold because it's it's not
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: like maybe the maybe the new facility will have like
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: temperature control. So that's what I'm wondering.
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: Can you get it because you also need significant size
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: because you got to be able to make sure the
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: kicks work. Could you create a golf simulator type room
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: for a kicker where you don't need to see the
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: ball flight because it's track, but you can also get
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: the room really cold, or you put fans on the
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: walls to simulate wind, or something like.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: The VR type stuff right where they have the v V.
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: You have to feel it, Yes, you have to feel
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: the cold furniture thing. Have you ever been to that thing?
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: Shuns right, it's called I think it's called mom it's
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: and it's like you could like feel the wind in
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: your face.
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: Like on the Oh yeah, well they have I don't
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: know if they haven't been in a while. They used
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: to have at the hall where you could do the vinetaries.
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: They still have. It needs to be just that, but
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: close it in so you can make it. You need to.
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: They need to update that a little bit. It's seen
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: it's better days, but they still have it. But the technology,
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: you know, they could say so updated do that, but
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: make it actually feel like January two thousand and two,
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: before that blizzard or in that blizzard, and then let
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: him go kicking that you get fake snow, you put
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: it on the ground, Like, I think it's a good idea. Yeah,
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: I think it's you got to do it right. I mean,
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: he's not going to feel that until November December the earliest.
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: Now, you got to hope that if he's kicking in
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: a snowstorm, that it snows during the week so he
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: can get out there during the week and kind of
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: experiment and work with it.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: Let's face it, if he's kicking during a snowstorm, with
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: the way that our weather has been true, they're playing
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: in the championship, yeah, or something like, they're playing deep
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: into the playoffs, which is uh, which is good anyways,
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: Right if hopefully he makes a kick, but it will
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: be good anyways. Uh all right, So we're gonna open
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: up the phones and the emails now and I will
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: take your calls. I see you guys waiting on hold.
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: I apologize or just want it to get all the

- 1:10:14Speaker 1: very much. All right, let's get to these phones. Hopefull
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: you guys are still there. Chad is in LA. What's up? Chad? Hey?
- 1:10:21Speaker 6: How are you guys?
- 1:10:22Speaker 4: Thank you good?
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: How are you Chad?
- 1:10:24Speaker 6: My question is offense defense. I'm getting a little bit
- 1:10:28Speaker 6: of feedback, so I apologize if I'm a little stuttered.
- 1:10:32Speaker 6: My defense question is, with everything looking the way that
- 1:10:37Speaker 6: it's looking, are, can we confidently say potentially top five
- 1:10:42Speaker 6: top ten defense this year?
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: All right?
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: If they want to get a top five like key
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: On White's kind of take a pretty significant jump.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's a lot. That's I mean, they
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: were you need dugg Er and Peppers to both be
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: fully healthy. It's a little lofty.
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a top five every single what if goes
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: their way with the schedule they have, they could sneak
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: in the top five, but it would take a lot.
- 1:11:04Speaker 6: Okay, So our offense is competing on a daily basis
- 1:11:09Speaker 6: against a really good defense on a regular bait, right,
- 1:11:12Speaker 6: you know?
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: Yeah, sure.
- 1:11:15Speaker 6: Okay, So my my question then is this, so they're
- 1:11:18Speaker 6: gonna they're gonna be battle ready. Has Campbell's arms shown
- 1:11:24Speaker 6: any issue whatsoever since all of the hype during the draft.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: I would say that he's gotten better with every practice, honestly.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: I mean, I try to watch him as much as
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: I can. H I wish that we could watch film
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: a practice because it's always hard with the line of scrimmage,
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: a lot of moving bodies and flashes of color and
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: things like that in there. But I felt like you
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: got better at each practice. And the one thing that
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: I definitely saw him making real strides with was protecting
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: his inside. That was the biggest issue with him in college.
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: He get opened up and then he'd get crossed inside,
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: whether with an inside counter or like a spinner or
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: a crossover or something like that. I thought he did
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: a better job of that of staying inside out and
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: not drifting off of his set as a camp went
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: on here. So we'll see when the pads come on.
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: But no, I wouldn't say that it was majorly. Sometimes
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: I could see guys getting into his body, but he's
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: got such a great anchor that I didn't see it
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: was as a huge deterrent, at least so far. Yeah.
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: I mean it's it's non padded practice, so it's a
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: little early to say yeah. Yeah.
- 1:12:27Speaker 6: And then if I could ask one more question, if
- 1:12:29Speaker 6: our olne is challenging, that affects our running game, doesn't it?
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, I mean that that And thanks for the call, Chad,
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: and thanks for waiting that. That's where I'm at with
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: the line. I don't I'm not trying to be alarmist
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: about it yet. It's not in that level of it
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: wasn't like last year like you brought brought up earlier.
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: We're ways away from that, luckily. But that's that's the
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: engine of your offense. I know everybody gets bored by
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: the offensive line talk and stuff, but truly, uh, you
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: cannot call every thing if you don't have a good
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: offensive line, like you just there are things on the
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: playsheet that you're just eliminated, you know, the longer developing
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: plays obviously, but there also might be run plays that
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: you're just not good enough to execute, and the more
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: complex run schemes, and so then it just narrows the
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: scope of the things that you can call, and that
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: makes you predictable and easy to scout and all that
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: kind of stuff. So it's a huge part of it,
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: the run game, the pass game, all of it. It's
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: not just pass protection though, so it's a good point
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: of by the caller. That's a big part of it.
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: And the best run games truly are the most diverse,
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: like the ones that can call you know, a pluthor
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: of runs like Detroit under Ben Johnson. I mean, my god,
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: their run game install must have been like a like
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: a phone book, right, like they just said, you have
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: all these different types of runs and you have no
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: limitations with the personnel up front, so you can just
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: do whatever you want. And that's just a lot of
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: things that adds a lot to the table. And you hope,
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: you know, Will Campbell's are really athletic, high end run
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: blocker as a prospect, and you hope that he's one
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: of those types of tackles that now he's not going
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: to be Penny Suol, but like you hope that he
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: is one of those types of guys from cut from
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: that same clot that he can pull and he can
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: get out in front of blocks and he can you know,
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: reach front side on the outside zone and like he
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: can't allow you to have more range to your run game.
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: That would be great. That's exactly what you're what I'm
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: looking for out of him in year one, you know,
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: to go back to the question about Campbell pass protection
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: is probably gonna have some hits and misses for him.
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: I would say year one, as he learns his body,
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: learns how to you know, get away with the shorter
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: arms and like all that kind of stuff, there might
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: be some losses there early. But can he really be
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: a day one impact run blocker, because he should be.
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: That's what he was at LSU, and then he should
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: be that in the NFL. If he's that already out
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: of the gate, then I'll be really optimistic about where
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: they're at with Will Campbell. All right, Nate is in Connecticut.
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: What's up? Nate?
- 1:14:56Speaker 5: Hey, guys guys here you well, yes, we got you. So,
- 1:15:00Speaker 5: like my question to you guys is, well, hold on. First,
- 1:15:03Speaker 5: I'll say it is my second to last day of school.
- 1:15:06Speaker 5: Very excited. So I'm going to talk about something that
- 1:15:09Speaker 5: excites me, and that is our cornerback room. What I
- 1:15:13Speaker 5: really think. I think we have a really strong room
- 1:15:16Speaker 5: with the addition to Carlton Davis and of course the
- 1:15:20Speaker 5: main star Christian Zalees and Marcus Jones, and then uh
- 1:15:23Speaker 5: maybe Alex Austin on the outside and sometimes in the slot.
- 1:15:27Speaker 5: But my main thing is that where would you rank
- 1:15:31Speaker 5: our cornerback room like in the league? Like is it
- 1:15:35Speaker 5: top five?
- 1:15:36Speaker 4: Top ten?
- 1:15:37Speaker 5: Because I know we're getting compared to a lot of
- 1:15:40Speaker 5: duos like Derek Stingley and then you have Pats their
- 1:15:43Speaker 5: Tan and.
- 1:15:43Speaker 7: The Bronx and the new Broncos DV.
- 1:15:46Speaker 5: But yeah, where where you guys thought on where the
- 1:15:49Speaker 5: Pats cornerback room stands across the league? Thank you guys.
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: Thanks for the calling Nate and congrats on ending school.
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: Yeah like that because you know he's he's cool and
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: he calls catch twenty two during school. Awesome. Maybe I
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: don't know where do they rank and quarterback. It's a
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: good question. I haven't necessarily looked at. Yeah, I don't know,
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: but the other team's de charge off the top of
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: my head is high. Yeah, yeah, it's the duo is
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: high for sure. I mean it's a second team All
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: Pro corner and a really good corner in Carlton Davis.
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: So I would say the duo is high. Uh, I
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: think they have a chance to be in that conversation, certainly,
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: and they definitely have a chance to be one of
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: the best man coverage groups in the league, maybe already
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: are the best man coverage group in the league. Denver
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: has a good one.
- 1:16:34Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: Pat Sartan will obviously hold that down. They have a
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: good all the all the corners by the team. Yeah, so.
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: Christian Benford, Maxwell Harrison about Storm Duck, Jalen Ramsey's not
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: gonna be there, Yeah, Sauce Gardner, Brandon Stevens, Nate Wigan, No, No, Denzel.
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: War Martin Emerson not bad. It wasn't bad. Darius Slade,
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: Joey Porter, not bad.
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: Him still taking the Patriots there, Stingley, Kamari Lassiter's up
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: there right, D'Angelo ross is on the Texans, former Patriot
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: Pats er Tan Riley Moss, Chris Abrams, Draine in the slot.
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: I mean that's pretty good. I'd say Denver's probably Rileys
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: really good player too.
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: Yeah, Kansas City is Christian Fulton, Jalen Watson.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: Why isn't is he hurt McDuffie or maybe this isn't
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: including slot corners? Well, he plays a little bit on that,
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: that's true. It's a good group two. Yeah, Trayvon Diggs
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: here elam No keey Ringo Quinny and Mitchell Dorri Jackson,
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: Eli Rix. I mean that's a good Philly Philly.
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: And then what's his name? Is counting him as a safety?
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: I think all right, they're probably I don't think this
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: includes slot corners, so maybe this isn't the best thing
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: to go off of.
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: I can't think of his damn name. I have a kid. Yeah,
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: I know, Cooper Gen Cooper Deen like literally, yeah, Mike
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: Sayner still, marsha On Lattimore's not bad, but I'm still
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: taking Yeah, the Patriots, it's probably it's Denver. Probably Moss
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: and Patrick Startan are a really good duo.
- 1:18:07Speaker 6: Oh.
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: I saw J. C.
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: Horn cool Aid McKinstry next to each other, but they're
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: on different teams, so that's not it. Uh Yeah, I
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: mean that's pretty much it. Look I the Patriots are
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: right there with anybody.
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: Along those lines.
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: I'll ask you this because I've been asked this to
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: bring it up je or Alexander, at least by the Packers.
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: I don't get the like I see some Patriots fans
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: really clamoring for it.
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: Where's he? What's the plan there so he could play,
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: he could play Nickel. Is he gonna come here and
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: play Nickel though? Or I don't know. So, like he's
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: a boundary corner. Just I love Jeor Alexander. I do too.
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: He's a really good player, but so was he he
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: was nineteen draft. I want to say he was one
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: of our first drafts that I was really covering the
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: NFL and covering the team, and I was horrible at
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: evaluating whatever word you want to use. I know people
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: get all up in arms when I say scout, So
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: I won't say that I was horrible at it. Twenty eighteen,
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: I'm sure, yeah, I was very I was, you know,
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: young buck, trying to do this, trying to fake it
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: till I bake it. But I saw JayR. Alexander's tape
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: at louis Ville and was just like, that's a dog.
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: So is a heck of a corner. And he ended
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: up being as good of a player as I thought
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: he would be. In he's a stud. But he's been injured.
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: He's been consistently injured for like three or four years now.
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: He's also progressively played fewer percentage of his snaps in
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: the slot every year last year he played three thirty
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: one on the boundary, just fourteen in the slot.
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: Like he's a boundary corner. So it's a name, you know,
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: every time this comes about, I know, but it's gonna happen,
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. Like, and there are names they
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: could add.
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: I'm not saying they don't need to add, but like,
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: first off, the guys I look at right away if
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: you're gonna make that kind of splash move, and it
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: would be a splash move, yeah, Trey Henderson, t J.
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: Watt, and I don't know that of those guys are
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: where they are, Like you, Gyr, you are just signing him.
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: So what about Jayalen Ramsey? Because Jaalen Ramsey can play
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: the slot, he can play some safety. At this point,
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: Ramsey is probably in my mind, the best slot corner
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: in the NFL. He doesn't play there all the time.
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: He does play a little bit on the outside still,
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: but when you use him in that like and he
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: has experienced doing he's yeah, it's like two hundred STAPs.
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: You know. Some teams call it different things. You know,
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: Star is probably the most common one. When he plays
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: that star role, like he's he's awesome at it. He's
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: really really good.
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: That's the guy. And is Miami gonna trade him or
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: they're gonna release him?
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: Might be a post June one designation guy, So that's
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: if he haven't traded him yet. There's probably not a
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: huge market.
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: If he gets cut. And I think Jeier Alexander is
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: a better player at this point.
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: I think Ramsey might be a better player because Jeer
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: Alexander has but he's just hurt. He hasn't really I
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: guess health assume.
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: Yeah, like Jeer Alexander, I think at this point is
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: Ramsey just peak was a better player.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: But I'm just saying Ramsey is a better investment because
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: he's so this.
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: This is what I'm getting at Madden rating, Jeer Alexander
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: is probably higher. Who's a better fit for the Patriots
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: right now? If you're gonna add one of those two guys,
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: I think it's Jalen Ramsey and I don't think it's close.
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: I think it's Jalen Ramsey on both things, but it's
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: it doesn't matter. That's not here nor there. Jalen Ramsey
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: is a really good player still, and the fact that
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: he has that twilight of his career option of moving
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: inside to the slot because he's so instinctive and he's
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: such a great playmaker inside that he just as it
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: knows for the football. Yeah, he would be a great fit.
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: Jalen Ramsey. Honestly, now, I don't know if he was
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: run available. Miami is not trading him here, No, he
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: probably have to get cut. Yeah. Well, then again, they
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: traded Devonte Parker here. Well, I think that's a different Well,
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: but if they're clearly done with Ramsey, I mean I
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: don't actually I haven't followed that one close enough for
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: they've done with him or is he done with them?
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: I think it's a little bit of ball. So they.
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: Remember when they got him from the Rams and everybody
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: talked about that was the end of the AFC East
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: ever being competitive Jalen Ramsey, So, well, it was kind
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: of a it's been a messy marriage from the beginning,
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: if I have my facts. Trade here, he got traded
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: to Miami from the Rams, like you said, and he
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: played in Vic Fangio's defense, yeah, the very first year.
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: And Vic Fangio is not a matchup guy. He is
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: do what we do, play sides. Everybody's got their side
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: of the field. That they're gonna play and he's not
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: a he's not like a shadow guy, he's not a
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: travel guy. And Jalen Ramsey didn't like it. He took
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: exception to it, was vocally public about it and said that,
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: you know, I'm Jalen Ramsey essentially like I want to
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: do the whole revis tylaw thing like I got you,
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: you know, cat cover cat coverage, as Mike Rabel called it,
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: like that's the way he wants to play, and they
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: didn't want him to do that.
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: They wanted him to play his side of the field
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: and play his role and that sort of thing. So
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: he butted heads with Vic Fangio Vic Fangio leaves and
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: then last year I thought that they did that more
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: and they are more creative with his usage, and he
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: was doing more he wanted to be doing. So I
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: don't know what the hold up is now. A contract
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: probably would be my guest, like he's getting expensive and
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: he's getting older, so maybe it's it's some sort of contract.
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: I always hate to use cap casualty because it's really
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: not what it is, but maybe it's something like that.
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: I haven't looked up the exact particulars of why he's Yeah, it.
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: Doesn't really and it doesn't really say but it looks
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: like he wants out. Yeah, they've also got to figure
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: out they got a whole thing on their hands with
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: John who Smith.
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: That was a long winded way of saying that it
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: doesn't feel like the coaching staff has nailed it with
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: Jalen Ramsey. Yeah, like they haven't really exactly. And when
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: I say nailed it eight, he hasn't been thrilled with
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: his usage and and like the defense and the scheme
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: that they're running and all that kind of stuff. I'll
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: tell you you're anti Mike McDaniel. We know that you
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: don't want as a head coach. Yeah, you don't like him?
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: I do think, well, no, because this is where we
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: always gets twisted. He's a good play designer. He's a
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: very good play designer.
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: He is. I will give him credit for that. I
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: don't like him as a head coach. So I watched
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: his press conference the other day. Yeah, he looks a
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: little bit like a beaten man. Like he looks he's
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: he's very you know, he used to be this like
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: vibrant guy, this big personality. Uh maybe even to a
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: detriment at times he's feeling you can feel the hot
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: butt almost like he was hired to that king early
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: and he's in overseas and you feel the seat warmer
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: on that guy. I wonder who said that that that
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: might be the case. It's tough when for them, and
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: I know this is in Dolphins Catch twenty two, but
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: they are a division. It is tough for them that
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: they just can't keep to a healthy Like if I'm
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: not saying they would have won the super Bowl, then stop.
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: But they've also had a couple of decent backup quarterbacks
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: that they just get rid of. Sure, but like invest
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: if you know you have an injury prone quarterback, invest
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: in a good backup.
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: When they win to a plays, they are like a
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: ten to eleven win pace team. That's not the differentiator.
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: And he's I think he is a differentiator because of
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: how they run their offense. Like their offense is so
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: motion heavy and it's so multiple and all these different
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: things that you need a true to a esque trigger
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: man like Tua is a point guard. He's not a
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: he's not an overlease like toolsy quarterback. He's not Josh
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: Allen or you know, Mahomes or Lamar right where he's
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: got these crazy physical tools. He's more of like that
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: point G distributor, and they the way that offense hums
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: when he's out there is just different than what they
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: has been with their backups, so that that's not just
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: to let them off the hook, like they have a
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: fragile quarterback and they don't necessarily account for it the
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: way if they should with a reliable backup. But they're
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: a ten to eleven win paced team. They're a playoff
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: team with two and they're not without them. Right, it's
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: that simple. What year did McDaniel get there?
- 1:25:22Speaker 5: Again?
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: Oh man, twenty twenty one, twenty twenty twenty ish, I
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: want to say it's like the third or fourth year.
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: So the thing I'm trying to find is the real differentiator.
- 1:25:36Speaker 2: So here it is against teams over or under five hundred.
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: I gotta look up the year here. This is why
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: it's not Dolphins catch twenty two because we don't know the.
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: I want to say it was twenty it was twenty two, Okay, Yeah,
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: So since twenty twenty two, the Dolphins against teams under
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: five hundred, five and three, ten and one, seven and
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: four against teams over five hundred which gave for five
- 1:26:02Speaker 2: one in five, one in five. They can't beat good
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: team two has played in these games. Will because there's
- 1:26:09Speaker 2: the other thing about to his record in the cold.
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: I'll give you that they can't beat good teams and
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: they can't beat teams with the cold because shocker Mike
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: mcdanne refuses to make any adjustments about anything.
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: Ever, I don't think it's that. I really don't, and
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: I know we get into this argument philosophically all the time.
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: It's still in your school, though, what I think my
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: biggest criticism of the Dolphins, My biggest criticism of the
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: Dolphins is that they can't beat the good teams because
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: they get killed in the trenches. They get murdered every time.
- 1:26:37Speaker 2: Especially they're all good teams are usually good in the
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: trenches right there.
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: They just they are not a physical football team. So
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: they don't play well in the cold. They don't play
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: well against good teams that are built in the mid
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: through the trenches. They don't, you know, they don't play
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: well in those situations. Their offensive line has been terrible
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: for basically like two or three years now, as bad
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: as the Patriots in some ways, and a big reason
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: why is because they don't invest in it. You know,
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: they don't draft people, know, they don't really invest highly. Now,
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: they drafted an offensive lineman this year, right.
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: Defensive linean didn't they take the kid from Michigan Kenneth Grant.
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: You're right they did. Yeah, Now they need to run defense.
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: That was a bit, That's a part of it. It's
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: both sides of the ball. They needed to be sure
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: up the middle. But they just feel they're like allergic
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: to drafting a good offensive lineman. And it's worse this
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: year because Toront Armstead retired. So it's like they don't
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: have I don't even think they have a starting left
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: tackle that you feel great about right now. They have
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: invested in speed on the outside, you know, Hill and Waddle,
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: obviously John new Smith. That tight end was an investment.
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: They are heavily invested in their backfield like they're running
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: backs like a chan and those guys they that's all
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: they care about. This is to your point. They care
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: about the skill players, and they care about the scheme,
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: and they don't care about the trenches, and they just
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: get bullied by these good teams and the trenches. It's
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: tough so to.
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: Against teams over five hundred or sorry, yeah, against teams
- 1:27:59Speaker 2: over five hundred six and thirteen since since Mike McDaniel
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: got there, against teams over five under five hundred nineteen
- 1:28:08Speaker 2: and three nineteen and three against under five hundred six
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: and thirteen against it. So it it too is a
- 1:28:15Speaker 2: part of that.
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: It's not all of it, but it is a part
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: of Okay, So I want to hear they're starting projected
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: offensive line. This is our lads, Debtha Winstill No, I
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: thought it was. He started from the last year. It's
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: not good. Okay, So here's their starting five on the
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: offensive line. Tell me if this is better or worse
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: than the Patriotskay, your boy Patrick paul I left tackle.
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: I do like Patrick did not play really as ad
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: play last Yeah, a total unknown. Isaiah Win is maybe
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: on the Dolphins. Keep going. James Daniels, who's a veteran
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: free agent signing over from Pittsburgh, was a good player.
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: But it's been heard so that would have been their
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: West s White Seri equivalent. He's a little bit better.
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: Then, we'll call that, all right, So we'll give that
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: one of the Dolphins. They know left guard, that's left guard.
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: We'll give that one. Of the Dolphins. Aaron Brewer at
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: center is a really good player, so give him that.
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: He's good. Here's one that was Patriot adjacent Jonas right
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: now projected starting right guard. I'll take Austin Jackson at
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: right tackle. I'll take more Moses. That might be the
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: worst offensive line. Not good, it's not good. Brewers are
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: really good center. And then what's there about it? Like, uh,
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: not great? Any names that we'd even recognize that? Jackson
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: Carmen is still kicking around the league. He's backing up
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: at guard. Liam Eichenberg still Kaaran Irad has been a
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: huge bus for them. Yeah. Uh, Andrew Meyer is like
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: a veteran journeyman center. He's kind of like a West Tweitzerka.
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: He's in that mold. The one good player on their
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: offensive line that I feel good about. Jonah will be
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: a good player, but he's Aaron Brews a really good center,
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: like top five, top ten centers in the league. But
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: other than that, you're you're looking at a bunch of Yeah,
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: that's not pretty, and they don't they Their highest draft
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: pick was Jonaho's a high second round pack well, because
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: they just want fast guys and offense aren't fast. They
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: want Chop Robinson and they want athletes on offense, like
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: that's what they're looking at. All right, let's get back
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: to the phones. Uh At, it was a full Dolphins minute.
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: And I feel like like we don't have to be
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: like glass houses anymore because I feel like the Patriots
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: are kind of in a good spot. So I don't
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: better than that offensive line wise, they might be better. Honestly,
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: that might be the worst offensive line in the NFL.
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: All right, Emories in Virginia. What's up, Emory?
- 1:30:21Speaker 4: Yes, good afternoon, Jim. Enjoy your show man. Hey, I
- 1:30:26Speaker 4: got a couple of questions here. What have you seen
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: from Kobe minor anything? I'll take anything if you've seen
- 1:30:34Speaker 4: anything from Nick Kids and my last one, My last
- 1:30:38Speaker 4: one is a fante Samuel s has the Patriots closed
- 1:30:43Speaker 4: the door on him? The kind of had a Hall
- 1:30:45Speaker 4: of Fame career as far as his total career, and
- 1:30:47Speaker 4: he has some good years here with New England Patriots.
- 1:30:52Speaker 4: Help me out, what do you mean.
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: By closing the door, like in terms of like alumni stuff.
- 1:30:56Speaker 4: Or yeah, alumna stung. I haven't seen in any games,
- 1:31:01Speaker 4: no conversation from you guys or all of anybody realt.
- 1:31:06Speaker 4: Nobody talks about Asante sam You've seeing it, and I
- 1:31:10Speaker 4: thought the guy had an amazing career Hall of Fame
- 1:31:14Speaker 4: work over fifteen interceptions, seven returns for touchdowns. He owned
- 1:31:18Speaker 4: the NFC in NFL postseason interception return for touchdowns. He
- 1:31:24Speaker 4: owns that and two Super Bowls.
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a fair point, Emory, Thanks for the call.
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: I I know it didn't end great with Bill and Sante,
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: so that it might stem from that Bill's not here anymore,
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: So maybe there's an opportunity to iron out that relationship
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: again now that that he's not around anymore. Rabel must
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: must have played with Sante Samuel right today? He was
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: he was on seven seven? Yeah, yeah, so last year, yeah,
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: I think he was here. I think they overlapped, so maybe.
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: Two years uh or no, yeah, they overlapped for a while.
- 1:32:02Speaker 2: Rabel was here one oh eight, Samuel was here three
- 1:32:05Speaker 2: zero seven.
- 1:32:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: I thought it was the Vergificantly Yeah, yeah so maybe yeah.
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: Well, I also wonder if that question is we were
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: just talking about the slot corners, like a Sante Samuel
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: Junior still a free agent.
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: Yeah, so I've seen some people bring him up as
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: a potential fit. Yeah, what was the first thing Zobe minor?
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: Kobe Minor he had. He's been in that opportunity group.
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: I didn't really see anything eye bobbing from him, but
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: just in terms of where he's playing and who he's
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: playing with. He's been sort of with that with that
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: third group, I would say for most of minicamp, which
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: isn't surprising, you know. So it was like Marcus Bryan
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: was like, you know, playing in that that spot, would
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: tackle with a lot of Ben Woolridge reps and stuff
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: like that with him. Yeah, so similar. All right, Uh,
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: William is in Philly. What's up, William? Haven't heard from
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: you in a while.
- 1:32:48Speaker 3: It's been a while. How you doing good? Yeah? Well,
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: I just wanted I didn't get a chance that the
- 1:32:58Speaker 3: talk about far as the real fast just I was
- 1:33:03Speaker 3: very pleased. I was pleased. Uh, will Campbell, I understand it, Evan,
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: you know I was. I was a little against it,
- 1:33:10Speaker 3: but I understand we needed a tackle. I like to
- 1:33:13Speaker 3: running back and Kyle was a Kyle Williams the wide receiver. Yeah,
- 1:33:20Speaker 3: I said, okay, okay, I like free agency everything I have.
- 1:33:25Speaker 3: If Bill was doing this, it probably wouldn't went this
- 1:33:28Speaker 3: way though, But I was very pleased. I have no
- 1:33:31Speaker 3: complaints of anything.
- 1:33:32Speaker 4: I just.
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: Still looking trying to for that true number one. And
- 1:33:37Speaker 3: that's just the take I wish you want to have
- 1:33:39Speaker 3: with Alex will Fast. I know we in twenty twenty five.
- 1:33:44Speaker 3: I know his name is, is it John Mayors?
- 1:33:47Speaker 4: S missed?
- 1:33:48Speaker 3: If I'm staying right, he doesn't come out.
- 1:33:49Speaker 2: To Jeremiah Smith. Yeah, you gonna ask about wide reserves
- 1:33:52Speaker 2: next year. So Jeremiah Smith's twenty seven, right, and Ryan Williams.
- 1:33:56Speaker 2: Those are the two best receivers in college football. They're
- 1:33:58Speaker 2: both another year.
- 1:33:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:34:01Speaker 3: Do you see Mark Wave was moving up to get them,
- 1:34:05Speaker 3: I mean to get one of them. Maybe that's our
- 1:34:09Speaker 3: chance to finally get a true number one.
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: I mean two years from now hopefully, or you know,
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: by the time we get there twenty twenty seven draft,
- 1:34:17Speaker 2: that's year three of Drake May right, and.
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: Doing my math right there, Yeah, they should be a
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: playoff team. They shouldn't be this year four we're going
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: into here, or year four of Drake.
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: May Yeah, they should not be in a spot where
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: they can trade up that I mean, those guys will
- 1:34:30Speaker 2: both gonna be top five picks. They shouldn't be in
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: a spot where they can trade up to the top five.
- 1:34:35Speaker 2: I think I can give you some names this year
- 1:34:37Speaker 2: if you want, if they're in a position now. Granted,
- 1:34:40Speaker 2: I think I said this about who was it a
- 1:34:41Speaker 2: couple of years ago, and I was like, if they're
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: in a position draft and they it's not good.
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll say that.
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: About Jeremiah Smith and Ryan Williams if they're in a
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: position draft those guys.
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: Something went wrong.
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: As good as those players are right, this year's draft
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: is weird just because some of the top receivers are
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: true juniors. So are they gonna come out? Are they
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: gonna go back to school? One name I've heard a lot,
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: so Carnel Tait is the guy you like from Ohio
- 1:35:11Speaker 2: State and they got to.
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: Get an X.
- 1:35:13Speaker 5: So.
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: Antonio Williams from Clemson is so many people have talked about.
- 1:35:16Speaker 2: I think he's an inside guy. He's a good player,
- 1:35:18Speaker 2: but he's more redundant than he get that true X.
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: Carnel Tate from Ohio State is a big name, and
- 1:35:24Speaker 2: I think he's a senior.
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: I think he's coming out.
- 1:35:27Speaker 2: Denzel Boston from Washington is another name you'll hear a
- 1:35:30Speaker 2: lot he is really that traditional, big, physical X. I
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: haven't done a ton of work, so this is a
- 1:35:37Speaker 2: very light comparison. Don't take this gospel.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: It will probably change.
- 1:35:41Speaker 2: But that is your sort of tech McMillan kind of player,
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: the guy I really like. And he is a true
- 1:35:46Speaker 2: junior and his quarterback's a true junior. So I don't know.
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: They may stay and I'm gonna be watching this all year.
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: Jordan Tyson from Arizona State, he.
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: Is, yeah, he is.
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: I don't know if I can let you go. You
- 1:35:58Speaker 2: don't have to stay odd for this whole explanation, I
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: don't want to. I don't want to hold you, but
- 1:36:03Speaker 2: uh yeah, Jordan Tyson is like he's big, but he's
- 1:36:07Speaker 2: not so big that he's lumbering, right. He's got good speed,
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: he's quick, he's got great ball skills. He's just really young.
- 1:36:14Speaker 2: And so there's a lot of variation there. And I
- 1:36:15Speaker 2: think I said this about Tet McMillan last year, who
- 1:36:18Speaker 2: came out as a true junior. A lot of the hype, right,
- 1:36:20Speaker 2: there is projection, right, this kid is going to turn
- 1:36:23Speaker 2: twenty one in August. So what you know we're talking about, Well,
- 1:36:27Speaker 2: this is what he's on the path to become If
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: he becomes that guy, you're talking about, somebody who's a
- 1:36:32Speaker 2: top ten, top fifteen pick and can play the X
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: and be a legitimate playmaker in the NFL. There are
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: also guys that have been at this point in their
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: career that have that hype that they just don't take
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: that next step. He's got a good quarterback in Sam Levitt.
- 1:36:43Speaker 2: It's a really rising program, fast rising program at Arizona State.
- 1:36:47Speaker 2: They've done a great job with player development. I think
- 1:36:49Speaker 2: he's in good hands there. I think Hines Ward is
- 1:36:51Speaker 2: actually their wide receivers coach. I know he wasn't one point,
- 1:36:54Speaker 2: but I feel like it was around in this time
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: last year. I did this, this feel about Tet McMillan.
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: So this is this is the guy that I'm kind
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: of behind. As we start the season.
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: It can change. There's a whole other season to go.
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: But if we're talking about a first round receiver for
- 1:37:07Speaker 2: the Patriots in twenty twenty six, if he comes out,
- 1:37:10Speaker 2: I like Jordan Tyson.
- 1:37:12Speaker 3: Okay, there you go, Okay, uh just real, just real fat.
- 1:37:16Speaker 3: But I know I haven't been calling like that. Whatever,
- 1:37:19Speaker 3: It's not that because my job is kind of a
- 1:37:21Speaker 3: little demanded and asking a lot of me. But but
- 1:37:24Speaker 3: when I'm like, I'm off to dato. So that's why
- 1:37:25Speaker 3: I'm able to call when I just to check it
- 1:37:28Speaker 3: in on y'all guys. But I'm always listening to y'all. Okay,
- 1:37:30Speaker 3: So I have agree and y'all take care.
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: Okay, Thanks William, it was good to hear from you.
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: Thanks for the kindes. Ward is the wide receivers coach
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: Arizona State.
- 1:37:37Speaker 4: Still.
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: Oh okay, that's interesting. Yeah, I really liked. Uh. You know,
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: I haven't watched any of these guys closely, but just
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: seeing Cardinal Tate in the in the college football playoff,
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: just one of those smooth Ohio State wide receives.
- 1:37:50Speaker 2: He's in Ohio State X. He's not like JSN No.
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: He's more like a laved Garrett Wilson type. Yeah, just
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: like smooth athletes. He's big, six', three, toy he's, big
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: he's got some he's got some. SKILL i think you
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: will Like Jordan tyson The arizona's. Take, YEAH i think
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: you will Like you're not it's not AND i know
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: all the caveats of a whole fault college football season to.
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: Go but this class is is not is not? Great,
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: right it's not? There, well it's it's similar to this, year, Right,
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: like it's. Not there's not A i think it's better
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: than this. Year there's. Not there's not A Marvin harrison,
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: Junior Milik. Neighbors, well here's the weird thing about this.
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: Class there's so many young. Guys there's so Many Red
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: strips sophomores And Drew junior is that there's a lot of.
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: Variants so there are guys that have that, upside but
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: they haven't played to it. Yet there's nobody going into
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: the season that you're hyping like. That there, is but
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: they're not in the draft until next. Year so but
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: like last, year there's more upside with this group than
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: there was last. YEAR'S i would, Say, so we're getting
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: the way ahead of ourselves with the twenty twenty. Seven
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: you knew it was going to happen. Eventually but has
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: there ever been a wide receiver going one two in the?
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: Draft probably, not not THAT i can think. Of, No,
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: NOW i Would Jeremiah smith to me IS i would
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: Pick Jeremiah smith Over Ryan. WILLIAMS i think he's a
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: little bit more physically. Imposing, Yeah Jeremiah smith And ryan's
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: are a lot Of Julio jones like. THAT i see
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: that sort of. Player he's just so freaking, good where
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: Like Ryan williams still looks a little his body type so.
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: Long Ryan williams to, me is a Good Ryan williams
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: is just souped.
- 1:39:30Speaker 2: Up and this guy's really good AND i think HE
- 1:39:33Speaker 2: i think he's a better version Of DeVonta.
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: Smith, yeah that's a good. Comp, yeah just from the
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: body type perspective and the. Place Jeremiah smith just is
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: just a freaking you, Know.
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: Jeremiah, okay you know how we always get annoyed when
- 1:39:47Speaker 2: people throw out generational, prospect, Right this is why we get,
- 1:39:50Speaker 2: annoyed because When Jeremiah smith comes, along we need a
- 1:39:53Speaker 2: way to describe.
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: Him Maybe Jamar chase, TOO i GUESS i could see that.
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: COMP i know that gets thrown.
- 1:39:59Speaker 2: Out so When Jeremiah smith got when we finished What
- 1:40:03Speaker 2: Jeremiah smith was a true freshman last, year, Right, Yeah
- 1:40:06Speaker 2: so when we finished the twenty four, draft, YES i
- 1:40:09Speaker 2: started looking at recruiting and the true freshman coming, in
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: AND i was Reading Jeremiah smith's, bio which was unbelievable
- 1:40:16Speaker 2: on twenty four to.
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: SEVEN i was asking people about, it AND i saw
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: somebody said somewhere like like he's better Than Marvin Harrison.
- 1:40:22Speaker 2: Junior And i'm, like, oh like a better, Prospect like
- 1:40:26Speaker 2: he's gonna be a BETTER nfl? Prospect is, no right,
- 1:40:29Speaker 2: now he's better Than Marvin Harrison, junior who everybody was
- 1:40:33Speaker 2: calling generational coming out of the.
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: Draft SO i the one thing that's going to stop
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: them Going julio is like high school games are ON. Espn,
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: yeah but they, were like they were showing. Him they
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: do those Like friday night, lights like high school, specials
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: and they would go and they would Show Julio jones'
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: high school. Game you don't really, do like who nobody
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: gets that? Anymore like where? Then, yeah but that's the last. Name,
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: yeah DID i did she do or have one of?
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: THOSE i think you had. ONE i don't think he.
- 1:41:01Speaker 2: Did he might, have like they televised some high school,
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: games but it wasn't because the.
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: Cruits so CAN i CAN i bring this back to
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: to twenty? SIX i want to give you one more
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: thing on next.
- 1:41:11Speaker 2: Year by the, Way Jeremiah smith is the ninth highest
- 1:41:14Speaker 2: rated recruit in twenty four to seven. History he is
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: the highest rated wide. Receiver this is since two, thousand
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: so this Includes Julio, jones who is the thirty seventh
- 1:41:26Speaker 2: highest rate of all. Time the reason they're not gonna
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: go one. TOO i mean they might go one, too
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: but if they, Don't Dylan stewart From South, carolina WHO
- 1:41:34Speaker 2: i know you watched because he Faced Well, Campbell Dylan
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: stewart is maybe it's Not Jeremy, smith maybe he's close
- 1:41:41Speaker 2: To Ryan, williams but like he is one of the
- 1:41:44Speaker 2: best edge prospects we've. Seen he get AND i mean
- 1:41:47Speaker 2: it's the, school but he gets a lot of comps to, clowning.
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: Right and that will be the that will be will,
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: happen whether It's smith Or. Williams you, know someone's gonna
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: fall a couple OF i don't think they're gonna go one.
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: TOO i actually don't think they're gonna both. Go like
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: there's a chance that one of them, falls like slightly
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: just because of Positional Jeremiah smith should go one, One
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: yeah he. Might Jeremiah smith is. Different But Ryan williams
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: might go like. Six LIKE i wouldn't be, shocked you,
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: Know Like Milik neighbors went, Six you, know, LIKE i
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: don't think that's out of the. Possible can we get
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: back to the twenty six offseason, though because now we're
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: two years ahead of. Time but here's let me just
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: say this on. That it's that kind of.
- 1:42:21Speaker 2: Draft this is a lot of the context for the
- 1:42:23Speaker 2: twenty years away from. It you were gonna hear a
- 1:42:26Speaker 2: lot during the twenty sixth. Draft, no, okay but if
- 1:42:28Speaker 2: they do, this it means they can't get this guy twenty.
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: Seven get ready for? That so can we can we
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: talk about the twenty six? Offseason? Yeah this is very
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: catch twenty. Two they have not played a game in
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: twenty five and we're talking about twenty.
- 1:42:39Speaker 2: Six but getting too far? Ahead isn't talking about the next?
- 1:42:42Speaker 2: Draft is talking about.
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: The draft After So nicholas And oslo norway across the.
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: Pond he mentions, that you, know what is the our
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: biggest needs heading into twenty twenty? Six like what we
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: think The patriots' biggest needs will be in twenty? Six
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: he MENTIONS x, receiver right, tackle tight. END i would
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: say those are all on the. List edge, rusher pass
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: rusher is gonna be really.
- 1:43:07Speaker 2: High you know how we do like a big three
- 1:43:09Speaker 2: needs every. Year, yeah zooming on Our henry stays, healthy
- 1:43:11Speaker 2: they're probably year away from tight end on that developmental titands,
- 1:43:15Speaker 2: Right but that's not a big three. Thing, sure it's
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: the wide, receiver the right, tackle and then that pass.
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: Rusher, yeah class rusher might be a little bit of
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: a weaker. Class SO I i know it's easy to, say, like,
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: oh just go drafted In, hutchinson, right like obviously that's but,
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: YEAH i would say a real true three down impact
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: pass rusher is probably there still their biggest hole when
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: you start to factor in positional value and like all
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: that kind of, Stuff, like obviously left guard is probably
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: they're truly their biggest hole on their depth chart right.
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: Now but you're not. Good hopefully they're not drafting a
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: left guard as high as you know in the first. Round,
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: well we've been down this road. Before, Yes but even
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: if they have a even if they're as good as
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: some people think they're gonna be and they're that team
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: that goes from worse to first or something like that
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: and they make the, playoffs they're picking early twenties and
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: they take a left guard THAT i.
- 1:44:06Speaker 2: Was gonna, say we've been down that road BEFORE i
- 1:44:09Speaker 2: WAS i know you're gonna be. Upset we've been down
- 1:44:11Speaker 2: that road. Before there is one pass. Rusher so some
- 1:44:14Speaker 2: of the names of the top right, Now Ruben bain From, MIAMI.
- 1:44:16Speaker 2: Jt overton From, Alabama Michael, kamara WHO i think some
- 1:44:21Speaker 2: people started looking at last. Year he could have come
- 1:44:23Speaker 2: out if that's What i'm thinking, Of Denise Dennis sutton
- 1:44:27Speaker 2: From Penn, state number thirty. THREE i don't know if
- 1:44:30Speaker 2: you recall any of him from Watching Abdul. Carter he
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: had he had a really good college football. Playoff he
- 1:44:35Speaker 2: had a really good college football. Playoff he's one of,
- 1:44:38Speaker 2: these like It's Penn, state freak. Athlete coach him up
- 1:44:41Speaker 2: on the skills kind of, thing, like that's a. Guy
- 1:44:44Speaker 2: if The patriots are a five hundred team or, BETTER
- 1:44:47Speaker 2: i think that's probably gonna be one of the guys
- 1:44:49Speaker 2: we're talking.
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: About, YEAH i would say right now for, me And
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: i'm an offense, guy BUT i would like to see
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: them get a pass. Rusher it got off the. Edge you,
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: KNOW i say pass, rusher BUT i really mean edge,
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: rusher that type of. Player it just seems like that
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: would really put a bow on a lot of. Things
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: and plus it's also a blue chip. Position it's a
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: premium position if you get a boot chip, talent like
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: it's another building block type of. Position right where you Have,
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: gonzo you Have Drake may hopefully you Have Will campbell
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: at left. Tackle and then if you add a premium
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: pass rusher to that, too now that's another pillar type
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: of player in position that you can stack the board
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: on like? That do you to watch some constructive criticism
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: that is really just a constructive? Criticism to, me this
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: might be like a pu email actually because you're mentioned in,
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: it but none of these criticisms are about. You. No,
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: no the second ONE i think is more. Pus i'll
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: read the first. Criticism he says that on catch twenty, Two, evan.
- 1:45:49Speaker 2: We get a, name not get criticized. Anonymously It's jared In.
- 1:45:54Speaker 2: La but again he likes. You there's no criticisms of you.
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: Here So, evan on catch twenty, two when you wanted
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: to say something But alex is, talking you make a
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: noise that is unfathomly uncomfortable to. SAY i don't never
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: even notice. That it sounds like he types a bunch
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: of e's yeah you and, Ah i'm probably saying yeah
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: Because i'm agreeing With alex's point or actively listening to his.
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: Point it's.
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: Okay this could also be one of those things where
- 1:46:23Speaker 2: like it's all critical you and then he's watching this
- 1:46:25Speaker 2: and it's, like oh, SHOOT i got them mixed.
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: Up it happens all the, time BUT i say it
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: under my breath and the mic picks it up every every,
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: time period after every. Period, LITERALLY i can't describe it.
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: BETTER i. CAN i assume he MEANS i. Can he
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: SAID i, can't BUT i can describe it better without calling.
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: IN i don't. KNOW i Think i'm pretty sure it's
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: me saying, yeah WHICH i do some.
- 1:46:49Speaker 2: Type i've never noticed anything out of place in. THAT
- 1:46:51Speaker 2: i know you do, that but that's NOT i don't
- 1:46:53Speaker 2: think you say it. Weird THAT'S i know people get
- 1:46:55Speaker 2: on me for and, yeah AND i know people get
- 1:46:58Speaker 2: on me With that's WHERE i thought that was.
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: Going, see, YEAH i just did it like oh, that,
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: yeah that's. Normal it's. OKAY i don't. Protest i'll take the.
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: CRITICISM i. Constructive the other one is more PU I i.
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: Think but when we like preface our takes With i'm
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: not saying we're fitting him for a red, jacket Or
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: i'm not, saying you, know he's gonna be an all
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: pro or, anything Or i'm not comparing him To Tom.
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: BRADY i get it like those he. Says it's me
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: in particular again that does this too. Often but, LOOK
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: i do that a. Lot And i'm not trying to
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: say this to toot my own. Horn but we're in
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: the business where like IF i come on this show
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: AND i say That Drake may is gonna is going
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: to be the Next Tom, brady that will get clipped
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: and then it will be like held over that. Forever
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: you've got to qualify stuff in this. Business, Yeah so
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: like IF i don't qualify, stuff THEN i leave My
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: LIKE I i don't want to get in that sort of. Thing,
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: Okay and Again i'm NOT i know that sounded a little.
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: Arrogant i'm not trying to be, arrogant But i'm just
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: saying that if you say something about a player and
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: you're get a little bit, excited and you get a
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: little bit over the top about, it then you're you
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: will Get. Oh Evan lazar said On catch twenty two
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: that you Know Drake may is gonna WIN, Mvp, like,
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: NO i didn't say, that, Right so that's why we do.
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: That BUT I i. UNDERSTAND i appreciate the constructive. CRITICISMS
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: i will work on my. YEAHS I i guess that's
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: WHAT i was. AT i think that's what than.
- 1:48:23Speaker 6: That.
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: NO i told you that none of them are about,
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: you and they all love, you all, Right, kendall but
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: it wasn't even juicy for. You minor. Stuff kendall is
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: In North. Carolina what's, Up?
- 1:48:31Speaker 4: Kendall, Hey, hey how you?
- 1:48:33Speaker 7: Doing he Could, HEY i wanted to, ask what's going
- 1:48:37Speaker 7: on with Jaylen. POLK i know he's been, hurt BUT
- 1:48:40Speaker 7: i was just seeing him participating like like in most
- 1:48:43Speaker 7: of the. Drills look like he's kind of competedive be
- 1:48:44Speaker 7: in the, drills going up for the, balls catch and running.
- 1:48:46Speaker 7: Around is he just he just can't participate in the
- 1:48:49Speaker 7: practice right? Now Or and my second, thing how far
- 1:48:52Speaker 7: do you feel he's behind you think you'd be ready to?
- 1:48:54Speaker 4: Train?
- 1:48:54Speaker 5: Account?
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: Yeah so he's uh, Appreciate, Okay, kendell thanks for the.
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: Call so he said. That rabel actually said this. Yesterday
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: he did have a shoulder procedure in the off. Season
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: he indred his shoulder at the very end of last.
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: Year it was the last second to last game of the.
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: SEASON i want to say it was actually finished the
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: year on ir, technically but it. Was it was one like,
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: that and he had the. Shoulder he's still coming back from.
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: That he is. Running him And digs are on the
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: same exact. Program they do absolutely everything in, practice, individuals,
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: walkthroughs and then when the live team stuff, starts they
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: are off on a side, field so they're all they're
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: not the only thing they're not doing is the live
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: live team eleven on. Eleven's they are doing everything else
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: AND i actually it's routes against air, again same THING
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: i said With, Diggs bulk looks like he's in good.
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: Shape he's just not cleared for full contact. Yet not
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: that we're full contact, now but full, PRACTICE i guess
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: is a better way to put. That so that's what he's.
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: Doing him And digs have been on the same. Regiment
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: they're working together off on this on the other field
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: or whatever the case may. Be and when the team
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: is running eleven on, eleven's they're running through. Routes it's
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: usually With Ashon, grant the offensive assistant that they're running
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: routes and it seems like they're trying to mirror what's
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: going on on the like the other field and running
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: the same type of routes that they would be if
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: they were participating in the eleven on. Eleven so that's
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: what those guys have been. Doing that was the other
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: thing about practice as we wrap up with the show,
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: here AND i want to mention one Non patriots thing
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: real quick. Too that was one thing that stood out
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: to me about to practice is just the method of
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: the madness of how they structure. Practice AND i want
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: to Say bill did, this AND i don't necessarily want
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: to say That jirod didn't do, this because maybe they
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: did And i'm just not one hundred percent remembering. It
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: but there is a very clear build up To Mike
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: rabel's practice script where they start practice within these like
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: every team, individuals but then they go to like routes
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: against air or defense against, air where the rep the
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: same stuff they're gonna rep in the eleven on. Elevens
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: so they'll do it against, air then they'll do it
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: at a jog through pace against the, defense whereas it's
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: eleven on, eleven but it's at a slower tempo like
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: an upscale walk through and then they get to the
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: live team. Drill so by the time they get To
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: live eleven on eleven's that's the third time that they've
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: repped that set of plays that they're working on in.
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: Practice like that's gotta be really helpful for like muscle
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: memory and learning the. Plays so you have this like
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: clear build up from routes on, air walk through reps
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: live eleven on eleven and they just like do that
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: as like a circuit each, day and then each day
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: is you, know obviously the plays are a little bit,
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: different but even some of the uh between the twenties
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: eleven on, elevens when they're doing base, stuff it's clearly
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: the same play as each.
- 1:51:50Speaker 2: Day, well AND i think some of it too is
- 1:51:53Speaker 2: we talked earlier about just how practice there's a good
- 1:51:56Speaker 2: flow to.
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: Practice everything's, moving they're not.
- 1:51:57Speaker 2: Stopping you can fix what you need fix during those
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: slower periods when you get into the up tempo rat
- 1:52:03Speaker 2: parts moving because you've already kind of made the.
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: Corrections, yeah it's you can see. It and then there's
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: times where you literally will see a guy against air
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: run a route and then you go fast forward to
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: the eleven on eleven and he wins on the route
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: on eleven on, eleven and it's, like, oh, okay well
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: they practiced that earlier and now they're doing. It borne
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: had one the other, day ran that circus route where
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: you fake like you're gonna break inside and then you
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: break out on the out and and he ran that
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: route perfectly in the, drill and then he ran it
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: perfectly in eleven on elevens and caught a touchdown in red.
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: Zone so that was a that's a very clear kind
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: of structure to. Practice all, RIGHT a couple more questions
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: from the, emails and THEN i want TO i want
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: to talk like two minutes On Roman anthony Because i'm
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: really excited About Roman, anthony all, right AND i gotta
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: get this. Out but in a, second this is a good,
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: question in your, opinion who on the roster would you
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: trade and? Why who on the roster would trading?
- 1:53:00Speaker 2: WHY i just think if they have players with trade,
- 1:53:03Speaker 2: value they probably shouldn't be trading those guys because they
- 1:53:05Speaker 2: need the.
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: Talent that's a tough. Question do you have an? Answer
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: it's Between Kendrick born And Kishan. Boody, YEAH i guess
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: a wide receiver would be my. Answer so we both
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: did our run throughs of a roster. Projection so far
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: you're gonna post, YOURS i think right, on, yeah on
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: The Sports. Up so maybe Next, wednesday well we'll talk
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: more in depth about roster projections and do that sort
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: of thing on the. Air but the we both sort
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: of got settled on maybe seven guys in the wide receiver.
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: ROOM i just feel it just feels one. Heavy and
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: if you're gonna Keep Afton, chisholm if he's truly gonna
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: be here and is already stamped the roster and things
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: like not, already but is going to treading in that,
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: direction it just seems like they have a lot of
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: bodies there AND i don't, know maybe It's, born maybe It's,
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: Booty maybe it's just which ever guy has the most
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: trade value in that. Room no offense or anything to
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: any of these, players but, yeah Like Javon, BAKER i
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: just don't know what kind of trade value you're gonna
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: have With Javon. Baker you, know he's probably a guy that's,
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: Expendable but it's hard to sit here and say you're
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: gonna get anything, Back like if you could get something.
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: Back you, know day three pick For booty or born like,
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: that that's probably worth. It maybe if you feel like
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: you have a logjam in numbers, there what position would
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: you look to add and?
- 1:54:27Speaker 2: Why WHAT i mean starting left guard for free. Safety
- 1:54:32Speaker 2: i've been on. THIS i think that They Craig. Woodson he,
- 1:54:36Speaker 2: honestly he's just been so good in. Coverage, yeah like
- 1:54:39Speaker 2: at the you, know at line of scrimmage man. COVERAGE
- 1:54:42Speaker 2: i don't know THAT i want them in center. FIELD
- 1:54:43Speaker 2: i don't know if that's the best use of his skill.
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: SET i would say left guard as. WELL i pass
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: strusher is definitely up there. Too Ed, dresher if they
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: could pull off a Trade hendrickson trade or who's the
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: other guy's holding? OUT Tj, Watt, yeah OBVIOUSLY i would
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: do that if it's if it's available and it makes
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: sense with the picks and all that stuff that would
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: have to go, Back but you could probably find a
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: veteran left guard that you could just plug in And
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: i'll hold them to it on This this was one
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: thing that we talked about on this show all off.
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: Season we just were looking for them to add that
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: one year stop gap left. Guard, yeah who was The
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: Morgan moses of left, guards, right, like just get that
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: guy so that you can kick that can down the
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: road and then invest in that later. On but get
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: through the season with a serviceable. Player did they think
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: it Was Wes. SCHWEITZER i don't, know maybe they. Did
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: it would seem like early on maybe they thought that
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: who's that's who it was going to. Be BUT i
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: never felt great about. THAT i compared him To Michael
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: jordan last. YEAR i thought that was the level of
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: Player jordan ended, up, Right so that was one, Thing and,
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: yes it was one thing they might have missed out
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: on this, Offseason BUT i don't hold it too much
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: against them because if that's the one thing they they
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: didn't hit this, offseason then they had a pretty good.
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: Offseason it's a left. Guard it's not like they ignored left,
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: tackle so, right SO i give them a break and
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: that you probably weren't going to be able to hit
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: everything that you needed in one. Offseason but could you
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: have paid a little bit more for a free agent
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: guard who was a little bit better Than Wes schweitzer
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: that you knew was going to play this, year and
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: not that you could have predicted a? Retirement But Wes
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: schweitzer was a journeyman. Guard that is not one snap last. Year, yeah,
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: Right so could you have done a little bit more
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: at that? Spot would be the one second GUESS i would.
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: HAVE i know they're probably bigger second, guesses like A
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: Dk metcalf trade or something like, that but that was
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: a spot that could have been that should have been
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: more easily filled in my. Opinion all, right so that's the.
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: SHOW i know everybody hates WHEN i do, this but
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: last two Nights i've been watching Some Red sox Because
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: Roman anthony is up for The Red sox AND I
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: i was excited, Mildly, alex and you're the baseball guy,
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: here so that's Why i'm talking to you about. THIS
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: i was excited mildly About mayor And hamble a, little,
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: yeah but just based off of my very uneducated, opinion
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: Like Roman anthony seems like a lot better. Player he's
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: a different level of.
- 1:57:08Speaker 2: Prospect, YEAH i don't know that he's a different level
- 1:57:10Speaker 2: of player right, now but like he's gonna get. There you,
- 1:57:13Speaker 2: know he has the potential to be a five tool.
- 1:57:15Speaker 2: Guy very excited about.
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: Him you saw it last, Night like they don't and
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: some of this is the, approach and we don't need
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: to get into that whole, thing but, like, yeah they
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: don't have a ton of guys who hit the way
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: the hit the ball the way he did last night
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: to just kind of find that space down the line
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: in driving a couple of.
- 1:57:31Speaker 2: Runs like they they're just kind of swinging out of
- 1:57:34Speaker 2: their shoes a. Lot so you, know his nuanced approached,
- 1:57:37Speaker 2: plate you, know he's he's ahead on that and he
- 1:57:40Speaker 2: made the air and right field he probably shouldn't be
- 1:57:42Speaker 2: playing right. Field, uh you know he's a left. Fielder
- 1:57:45Speaker 2: but he's.
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: A like he's the number. One he wasn't just their
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: number one. Prospect he was the number one prospect in.
- 1:57:50Speaker 2: Baseball there's juice there that that being a number one
- 1:57:55Speaker 2: prospect in baseball at whatever point in your, career being
- 1:57:58Speaker 2: that almost equation as much to being a first overall
- 1:58:02Speaker 2: pick as being a first overall pick in baseball. Does
- 1:58:05Speaker 2: like that's the prospect rankings are as much draft rankings
- 1:58:08Speaker 2: as the actual draft. Rankings it takes them more, time,
- 1:58:11Speaker 2: right so you've proven you can do it at one.
- 1:58:14Speaker 2: Point SO i mean almost think of this like the
- 1:58:16Speaker 2: first overall picks coming.
- 1:58:17Speaker 1: In that's the. Way that's why it feels and just you,
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: know again my very uneducated baseball, opinion just watching the
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: swing and when he does make, contact even when he makes,
- 1:58:26Speaker 1: out it's like he makes hard. Contact, Yeah so that
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: was the big book liner off the. Pitcher that was
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: like one hundred something miles an hour off the.
- 1:58:33Speaker 2: Bat they have something called barrel, percentage which is, basically
- 1:58:36Speaker 2: what percent of the time that you hit the ball
- 1:58:38Speaker 2: are you hitting the ball with.
- 1:58:39Speaker 1: The part of the bath you're supposed to hit it.
- 1:58:40Speaker 2: With and he was putting up like goofy numbers in
- 1:58:42Speaker 2: the miners, percentage, exit, velocity all that, stuff which it
- 1:58:46Speaker 2: could not be the be all end all of. Evaluation,
- 1:58:49Speaker 2: well but it's a definitive.
- 1:58:50Speaker 1: Number so that's one of those. Ones hit the way
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: he swings, too, Though and he's this, big tall dude
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: six foot three six y. Four he's got you, know
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: long lake you aren't when he gets the arm, extend
- 1:59:01Speaker 1: like you can tell that he's just gonna be able
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: to hit the ball a mile and he hits it.
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: Hard LIKE i, said even some of these outs that he's,
- 1:59:07Speaker 1: MAKING i know he's only as a one hit in two,
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: games but some of the outs that he's made are
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: just hard hit balls or like the fly balls that
- 1:59:14Speaker 1: he hits Like opo to left, field like he's still getting,
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: it like pretty close to the, monster you, know like
- 1:59:19Speaker 1: you were still.
- 1:59:20Speaker 2: And that's, early like usually the first couple of weeks
- 1:59:22Speaker 2: during an adjustment.
- 1:59:23Speaker 1: Period, yeah a lot Of i'm not a big baseball
- 1:59:25Speaker 1: prospects guy and like some like we were furious like
- 1:59:28Speaker 1: two years ago that weren't Calling, Marcelo, yeah because it's
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: ridiculous the way that they baby these. Guys and then
- 1:59:33Speaker 1: on top of, that you like we had so many
- 1:59:35Speaker 1: as kids Like Blake swihart and like all these like
- 1:59:38Speaker 1: Other Anderson he's Not he's Not Blake, Swihart like it's
- 1:59:43Speaker 1: this is just For Roman. Anthony you. Have there's different
- 1:59:45Speaker 1: than sufferable to handholding you these.
- 1:59:47Speaker 2: Guys to be up at twenty. One players don't come
- 1:59:50Speaker 2: up with twenty one years. Old they don't nine a rare.
- 1:59:55Speaker 1: Player, okay everybody tells Me Roman anthony is a rare.
- 1:59:58Speaker 1: Player what took so? Long so this this was. Different
- 2:00:01Speaker 1: this was not about his he was ready to.
- 2:00:03Speaker 2: Play the international guys are different than the high school
- 2:00:06Speaker 2: like different development paths for an international signing versus a
- 2:00:11Speaker 2: high School this is What if baseball really wants to
- 2:00:13Speaker 2: get people excited in the young players and they want
- 2:00:15Speaker 2: more of, this they need to do a couple of. Things,
- 2:00:17Speaker 2: one everybody's in the. Draft no more international. Signing everybody's
- 2:00:20Speaker 2: in the. Draft, two no more drafting out of high.
- 2:00:23Speaker 2: School everybody's gonna go play, college and that will shorten
- 2:00:26Speaker 2: that minor league, windows so guys will come right. Up and,
- 2:00:28Speaker 2: then uh was they gotta let teams trade draft.
- 2:00:31Speaker 1: Picks the only place doesn't do it like THE. Nba
- 2:00:34Speaker 1: basically basically, yeah all, right but with a more functional minor.
- 2:00:37Speaker 1: League all, right so we have to. Go But i'm.
- 2:00:40Speaker 1: CALLING i Think Roman anthony is going to be a.
- 2:00:41Speaker 1: STAR i really. DO i just LIKE i think he's.
- 2:00:45Speaker 1: RELAXED i think he's, cool.
- 2:00:46Speaker 2: And you know WHAT i like about, Him Ted, Williams,
- 2:00:49Speaker 2: Yazz Jim, Rice Many. Ramirez The Red sox when they are,
- 2:00:52Speaker 2: good they have a top player in left. Field they
- 2:00:56Speaker 2: have not had a star left fielder really since me And,
- 2:01:00Speaker 2: hey as much AS i Love Jason bay, so, like
- 2:01:02Speaker 2: this is a chance they got to Get Roman anthony
- 2:01:04Speaker 2: in the left, field and once they, do like, here we.
- 2:01:07Speaker 1: Go it's just one of those. Positions it's kind of
- 2:01:09Speaker 1: a bell.
- 2:01:09Speaker 4: Cow.
- 2:01:10Speaker 1: Yeah in when they have a star left, fielder they're generally.
- 2:01:14Speaker 1: Good they have a chance to have a star left fielder.
