- 0:00Speaker 1: Should I or shouldn't I? It's one more thing. Armstrong
- 0:04Speaker 1: and Getty.
- 0:05Speaker 2: One more thing.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Before I get to that, a couple of things. I
- 0:09Speaker 1: don't know. We don't usually promote the radio show in
- 0:12Speaker 1: the podcast, but we did a couple of really entertaining
- 0:15Speaker 1: things today. The stuff, the so-called government expert on having
- 0:22Speaker 1: seen UFOs and he's seen the actual spaceships and the
- 0:28Speaker 1: alien beings.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:29Speaker 1: That was an hour one, and he's completely serious, and
- 0:32Speaker 1: they took him seriously on the show. So I don't
- 0:34Speaker 1: know what's going on there. And then also the drunk
- 0:37Speaker 1: woman running for some office in Indiana. That was really good.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I think that was hour three.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Right. Well, we're promoting a prior hour of the podcast,
- 0:49Speaker 2: in effect. Right. Yes. Yes.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. Yeah. I see what you mean. But on
- 0:55Speaker 1: the One More Thing podcast, a different part of the podcast.
- 0:59Speaker 1: On Armstrong and Getty On Demand. But those were both very,
- 1:01Speaker 1: very entertaining. So if you don't catch those. Do I
- 1:07Speaker 1: do this first or my, I'll do my question last.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Came across this.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Here's the story I was going to go with, but
- 1:13Speaker 2: I can save it for another day. They argued about
- 1:15Speaker 2: Trump at a dog park. Then they pulled their guns.
- 1:19Speaker 2: A couple of old bastards start yelling at each other
- 1:24Speaker 2: at a dog park. End up shooting at each other.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Am I supposed to be aghast by this?
- 1:32Speaker 1: I am aghast at it. I get flipped off every
- 1:34Speaker 1: day because of politics in my cyber truck. I'm aghast
- 1:38Speaker 1: at that. That's where we are.
- 1:40Speaker 2: People are unhinged.
- 1:43Speaker 1: People are unhinged. I just came across a podcast I
- 1:45Speaker 1: was going to check out. 100% of people have gone nuts.
- 1:48Speaker 2: And I.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Want to listen to that.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I thought it would turn dark, though, like it has
- 1:54Speaker 2: the discussion. I mean, it's just, it's insane. Anyway, you're
- 1:57Speaker 2: saying something else. Less depressing.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Elon Musk was at a private dinner the other night.
- 2:05Speaker 1: They don't have a recording of this, but somebody was there,
- 2:08Speaker 1: explained it, what happened. He was asked, what would he
- 2:12Speaker 1: do if SpaceX and Tesla both failed simultaneously and he
- 2:15Speaker 1: lost every dollar as the world's only trillionaire? The question
- 2:18Speaker 1: was kind of intended as a hypothetical icebreaker people thought
- 2:21Speaker 1: would be kind of funny. His answer lasted eight minutes
- 2:24Speaker 1: and the table was silent. I won't give you the
- 2:26Speaker 1: whole thing. I read the long thing. But the long
- 2:27Speaker 1: and short of it was he got very serious and
- 2:30Speaker 1: he said he'd move into the cheapest apartment he could find,
- 2:33Speaker 1: buy a computer and start building the next thing within
- 2:36Speaker 1: 24 hours. He said the loss of money wouldn't bother him.
- 2:40Speaker 1: The loss of the companies would devastate him. But the
- 2:42Speaker 1: devastation would last one night. The building would start the
- 2:45Speaker 1: next morning. Someone at the table asked, what's the next thing?
- 2:48Speaker 1: He said, I don't know. But I would start in.
- 2:50Speaker 1: He said, the thing finds you. You just need to
- 2:52Speaker 1: move forward with the things you're interested in. He goes
- 2:56Speaker 1: on from there. I thought that was really interesting. Wow.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd like to read that whole thing.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Most of the people, not all the people, but most
- 3:06Speaker 1: of the people I know who have made a lot
- 3:09Speaker 1: of money. they didn't do it because they wanted to
- 3:13Speaker 1: make a lot of money. They did it because they
- 3:14Speaker 1: liked the thing they were doing so much. It's a,
- 3:18Speaker 1: it's a weird or both.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Certainly weird.
- 3:21Speaker 1: The old switcheroo or whatever. Like I heard Jerry Seinfeld
- 3:25Speaker 1: talking about this the other day, uh, how he, he
- 3:27Speaker 1: walked away from a hundred million dollars. They wanted to
- 3:29Speaker 1: give him personally a hundred million dollars to do another
- 3:32Speaker 1: season of Seinfeld. And, uh, he said no, cause he
- 3:36Speaker 1: thought it, had run its course and it would start
- 3:38Speaker 1: to drop off and he didn't want to do that. And, uh,
- 3:41Speaker 1: somebody asked him, well, you were already wealthy and going
- 3:44Speaker 1: to save for a lot of money. What would your
- 3:46Speaker 1: decision have been? You know, if you're younger and starting
- 3:48Speaker 1: out and he said, same, he said, if you're doing
- 3:50Speaker 1: this for the money, it ain't going to work. And, uh,
- 3:53Speaker 1: you know, that's, that's just, if that's what drives you,
- 3:56Speaker 1: that's true. Cause you'll make bad decisions.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. Certainly it's possible. Yeah. Um, I'm thinking about
- 4:06Speaker 2: probably the richest guy I know who's a tech guy.
- 4:09Speaker 2: And he loves solving the puzzle. I mean, he's driven
- 4:17Speaker 2: by it. He delights in it. And he happens to
- 4:19Speaker 2: have zillions of dollars. But he keeps doing things and
- 4:22Speaker 2: tweaking things and inventing things because he's passionate about it.
- 4:26Speaker 2: I think he likes the money, too, judging by his lifestyle.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Don't know him well. Lovely guy.
- 4:32Speaker 1: But you got the money because of the other thing.
- 4:34Speaker 1: So whether you enjoy stuff or not is a different topic, really.
- 4:38Speaker 1: But I've known so many people that just really want
- 4:41Speaker 1: to be rich, but don't have any interest in anything.
- 4:44Speaker 1: And so they aren't, is the thing.
- 4:48Speaker 2: I had a buddy who was in the car business
- 4:50Speaker 2: and made a fair amount of money at that. And boy,
- 4:54Speaker 2: you'd ask him about any aspect of the business and
- 4:56Speaker 2: his eyes would light up. And he would, because he
- 5:00Speaker 2: obviously was it was a game. It was a competition.
- 5:04Speaker 2: It was a series of problems to be solved. And
- 5:06Speaker 2: he really enjoyed it.
- 5:08Speaker 1: You can tell. I've always been that.
- 5:09Speaker 2: And he'd been out of the business for years.
- 5:10Speaker 1: And I've always been that way about radio my whole life.
- 5:13Speaker 1: And I was told at the beginning, I was never
- 5:14Speaker 1: going to make any money. So I certainly wasn't doing
- 5:16Speaker 1: it thinking I was going to end up with any
- 5:17Speaker 1: money doing this.
- 5:19Speaker 2: I totally did it for the money. A hundred percent. Oh, really?
- 5:21Speaker 2: I've told you that story before. Yeah. Yeah. I was
- 5:24Speaker 2: trying to figure out what I wanted to do with
- 5:25Speaker 2: my life. And, uh, because I decided not to become
- 5:28Speaker 2: an attorney, at least not at that point. And, um,
- 5:32Speaker 2: And I read an article in some newspaper that Don
- 5:34Speaker 2: Imus had signed a contract for a million dollars in
- 5:37Speaker 2: New York City. And I thought, holy crap, you can
- 5:39Speaker 2: make that sort of money in radio? And obviously, it
- 5:42Speaker 2: was going to be something wordsy that I did, whether
- 5:45Speaker 2: it become a writer of some sort or an editor, blah, blah, blah.
- 5:48Speaker 2: And I thought, damn, radio, that's it?
- 5:52Speaker 1: And in a different area, you could have been an influencer.
- 5:55Speaker 2: I suppose. I'd like to think I'm something like that now,
- 5:59Speaker 2: kind of, sort of. What, Katie?
- 6:01Speaker 1: No, it's just the fact that, you know, once upon
- 6:03Speaker 1: a time, you'd get into this industry for money. Oh, yeah.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I heard that.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Well, so that kind of leads to my next thing,
- 6:10Speaker 1: which is the opening to this. Should I or shouldn't I?
- 6:13Speaker 1: I've done it before. I don't know if I was
- 6:14Speaker 1: going to do it this year. Career Day is coming
- 6:16Speaker 1: up at my son's high school, and they always send
- 6:18Speaker 1: an email out to everybody. Do you want to participate
- 6:20Speaker 1: in Career Day? And they seemed very excited to have
- 6:23Speaker 1: me last time at Career Day just because I'm... Known
- 6:25Speaker 1: by lots of people. But it just seems like a
- 6:29Speaker 1: ridiculous thing to pitch at career day. Here's something that
- 6:34Speaker 1: very few of you could ever possibly be successful at.
- 6:38Speaker 1: But I'll tell you about it anyway. It's not the
- 6:42Speaker 1: same as like, you know, a lot of the people,
- 6:44Speaker 1: the parents that go to career days, it's a career
- 6:47Speaker 1: lots of people could do. Sure. And there's lots of
- 6:50Speaker 1: opportunities to do it. There are not lots of opportunities
- 6:53Speaker 1: to do this.
- 6:54Speaker 2: You might be the classic, your purpose in life is
- 6:59Speaker 2: as a warning to others.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Go and say. Oh, I've been that my whole life.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Yeah, me too.
- 7:04Speaker 1: And there's lots of different. A walking warning.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Yeah. Kids, you see that, kids? You want to end
- 7:10Speaker 2: up like that? No, just, and obviously these days you
- 7:15Speaker 2: would be going to career day as a podcaster. Right.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Well, they didn't know that at the time. I switched
- 7:24Speaker 1: to that once I got there. I mean, because, you know, radio.
- 7:27Speaker 1: But I got there, yank, and the radio. That is
- 7:30Speaker 1: not where you're going to... But podcasting, and everybody's eyes
- 7:32Speaker 1: lit up at the idea of podcasting, because as long
- 7:35Speaker 1: as you own a phone, and they all do, you
- 7:36Speaker 1: can be a podcaster.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Essentially, yeah. Well, I don't know. I think that would
- 7:40Speaker 2: be very, very interesting, though, because so many people are
- 7:43Speaker 2: intrigued or captured or enamored of the idea of doing that.
- 7:47Speaker 2: And certainly... I think you could make a really interesting
- 7:51Speaker 2: educational argument slash description of, yeah, the world is very flat.
- 7:57Speaker 2: There is all sorts of accessibility to that gig, that industry,
- 8:04Speaker 2: that opportunity. But that's the blessing and the curse is
- 8:08Speaker 2: that there are a zillion and six and to be
- 8:11Speaker 2: any good or to break through. You've got to be
- 8:14Speaker 2: very good, very lucky, very aggressive.
- 8:17Speaker 1: That would be good. I'm a mixed mind of it.
- 8:20Speaker 1: I feel like it's almost like sending a Major League
- 8:22Speaker 1: Baseball player there as a career. Yeah, some people can.
- 8:27Speaker 1: It is a career for very few people.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's not a bad thing if the ball
- 8:33Speaker 2: player shows up and says, look, if you are the
- 8:39Speaker 2: very best player on your high school team, you have
- 8:44Speaker 2: X chance of playing in college. And if you're the
- 8:47Speaker 2: very best player on your college team, here are your
- 8:50Speaker 2: chances of being in single A ball and blah, blah, blah,
- 8:55Speaker 2: and on up the line saying, just be realistic. Teaching
- 8:58Speaker 2: kids to be, are we talking, we're not talking about
- 9:00Speaker 2: like eight-year-olds here, right?
- 9:01Speaker 1: No, they're high schoolers.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Realism is good. Yeah.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I don't think that's the way they'll take it. You know?
- 9:11Speaker 1: No matter what I say. How do you think they'll
- 9:14Speaker 1: take it? I think they'll take it as, I don't
- 9:15Speaker 1: need to do algebra. I'm going to be an influencer.
- 9:20Speaker 1: And they all think they're going to be influencers. I've
- 9:22Speaker 1: heard that from teachers. They all think they're going to
- 9:24Speaker 1: be influencers or YouTube stars.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Oh, I don't doubt it.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Every single one of them. And I would have thought
- 9:28Speaker 1: the same thing, too.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Go General Patton on them. Chew them out. Slap a
- 9:32Speaker 2: couple of them.
- 9:33Speaker 1: There's a door.
- 9:35Speaker 2: If you don't like it, there's the door.
- 9:37Speaker 1: You know, I've always wanted to give the there's the
- 9:39Speaker 1: door speech. I've mocked that for years. There's your chance.
- 9:42Speaker 1: I could actually do it. I could actually do it.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I'll just walk over or open the door and walk
- 9:48Speaker 1: back up there. I've got their attention. Nobody's looking at me.
- 9:51Speaker 1: You think you're going to be a YouTube star? There's
- 9:53Speaker 1: the door. I don't want you here. You've got to
- 9:56Speaker 1: say star, not store. Don't bit the key line. Boo!
- 10:01Speaker 2: Yeah, you screwed it up.
- 10:04Speaker 1: I talked to everybody. You are just a door.
- 10:07Speaker 2: You want to be a U2 store, and they're all
- 10:10Speaker 2: whispering to each other, what's a U2 store?
- 10:14Speaker 1: Wait, why is this guy just pointing at the door
- 10:16Speaker 1: yelling at us? I finally do my there's the door speech,
- 10:18Speaker 1: and I flub the words. Oh, no. Joe knows. I've
- 10:22Speaker 1: been threatening this for years in all kinds of settings.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Right?
- 10:25Speaker 1: All kinds of settings. You're going to get your chance
- 10:27Speaker 1: and call it the store. You don't want to get
- 10:30Speaker 1: with the program? There's the door.
- 10:32Speaker 2: He's been dying to do that.
- 10:35Speaker 1: You open the door first, because that gets everybody's attention.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Why didn't he open the door? And then you've got
- 10:39Speaker 1: to stare at them for a while, look into each
- 10:41Speaker 1: of their eyes.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Right.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Okay, here it comes. You don't want to pro with
- 10:45Speaker 1: the bogram? Damn it!
- 10:47Speaker 2: Damn it!
- 10:47Speaker 1: Son of a bitch!
- 10:49Speaker 2: Okay, Boomer. Kick over a.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Chair, take off my hat, and throw it on the ground.
- 11:03Speaker 1: You just have a full crash out.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 11:06Speaker 1: And then just walk out the already open door. Yeah,
- 11:12Speaker 1: you use the door.
- 11:13Speaker 2: You know what?
- 11:14Speaker 1: Ironically, goodbye.
- 11:15Speaker 2: And they're just looking at each other. What the hell?
- 11:21Speaker 1: What was that? Hey, Henry, that's your dad? Is he
- 11:27Speaker 1: always like that?
- 11:30Speaker 2: If you were willing to educate yourself a little bit
- 11:33Speaker 2: about this topic, because I've read a fair amount about it,
- 11:36Speaker 2: the brutal, brutal workload of the superstar influencer.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Yeah, like Mr. Beast or whoever.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Oh, you've got to continually produce more and more content
- 11:48Speaker 2: and stay on top of it. And these people, they
- 11:51Speaker 2: feel hounded by their own ambitions and trying to stay
- 11:54Speaker 2: on top and a lot of them crack. Yeah. Mr.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Beast has got some great videos about just for all
- 11:59Speaker 1: you out there who think this is easy. Here's the
- 12:00Speaker 1: reality of it. How many hours he works and everything.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. You could bring those in as like your visual.
- 12:07Speaker 1: I'll say yes. I was planning to say yes. And
- 12:09Speaker 1: just God dang it. If I blow my, there's the
- 12:13Speaker 1: door line. That's just, it'll be too much.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Yeah. Boy, you got to rehearse and rehearse and rehearse
- 12:18Speaker 2: till it's second nature. Maybe Henry and Sam can help
- 12:22Speaker 2: you with that.
- 12:23Speaker 1: I wanted to do nude photography, so I tried it,
- 12:26Speaker 1: but I always got my thumb in the picture.
- 12:28Speaker 2: So it didn't sell well, so here I am doing
- 12:31Speaker 2: this job.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Covered up the naughty bits.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Yeah, covered them up. Idiot.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Well, I guess that's it. Ha ha ha!
