Transcript
- 0:19Speaker 1: What's going on everyone? Emily A Badi Here, you are
- 0:22Speaker 1: listening to five Minute Friday from Hurdle. I'm kind of
- 0:26Speaker 1: giddy today. I feel like it's kind of lame to
- 0:29Speaker 1: say that you like celebrating your birthday. It's my birthday.
- 0:33Speaker 1: I really like celebrating it. I just love an excuse
- 0:37Speaker 1: to gather with the people that I care about, and
- 0:39Speaker 1: that is entirely what I plan on doing today. I'm
- 0:45Speaker 1: probably riding bikes with friends. If you are listening to
- 0:48Speaker 1: this first thing in the morning, I'm going to spend
- 0:51Speaker 1: the day with friends. I'm going to dinner with girlfriends.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Tomorrow I'm going to see my family and spend more
- 0:56Speaker 1: time with people that I love. And it just feels
- 1:00Speaker 1: it's really special. I wanted to be really candid for
- 1:04Speaker 1: this five Minute Friday this week for the weekly Hurdle newsletter.
- 1:07Speaker 1: If you're not subscribed, the link to do that is
- 1:09Speaker 1: in the show notes. But in the newsletter, I share
- 1:12Speaker 1: thirty five lessons for thirty five years. I know a
- 1:15Speaker 1: little sappy, but I had this idea last week and
- 1:20Speaker 1: I've been journaling on it every morning. Some of my
- 1:23Speaker 1: biggest takeaways, not just from the past year, but from
- 1:27Speaker 1: all thirty five really, and earlier this week, upon talking
- 1:31Speaker 1: to my life coach and chatting about this concept, I
- 1:35Speaker 1: told her that I would be remiss if I didn't
- 1:38Speaker 1: say that it's not apparent to me the things that
- 1:41Speaker 1: I am also without. And she asked me, what if
- 1:46Speaker 1: we are to reframe? What if instead you thought about
- 1:51Speaker 1: and focused on the abundance that you have in your life?
- 1:56Speaker 1: How would that make you feel? And it's such a
- 1:59Speaker 1: simple swap. It is understandable that as I am on
- 2:04Speaker 1: the cusp here of my thirty fifth year, and oh
- 2:09Speaker 1: my goodness, I cannot believe the next big milestone is forty.
- 2:11Speaker 1: That is insane that I have these thoughts. That's understandable.
- 2:17Speaker 1: But how do I choose to move forward? What do
- 2:20Speaker 1: I want to focus on? Where do I want my
- 2:23Speaker 1: energy to go? And so the biggest, biggest, biggest takeaway
- 2:28Speaker 1: from the last three hundred and sixty five days, and
- 2:30Speaker 1: I say it here constantly on the show, I'm going
- 2:33Speaker 1: to be beating a dead horse. But energy attracts like energy,
- 2:36Speaker 1: and I know for certain what it is that I
- 2:39Speaker 1: am looking for, not only from this year, but as
- 2:42Speaker 1: I move forward in this life, and what I am
- 2:44Speaker 1: looking for is kindness and love and just goodness. I
- 2:50Speaker 1: am worthy of good things, I am worthy of greatness.
- 2:53Speaker 1: The theme of the year going from good to great,
- 2:56Speaker 1: and so I choose consciously to reach frame. I choose
- 3:01Speaker 1: to focus on the things that my life has, the
- 3:04Speaker 1: abundance that is at my fingertips, and what a beautiful
- 3:07Speaker 1: way to start again, not only this new year, but
- 3:10Speaker 1: of course all of the years that come after. And
- 3:14Speaker 1: so my question for you today is what can you reframe?
- 3:19Speaker 1: What's something that you've been struggling with and maybe you
- 3:22Speaker 1: are choosing to see the negatives when there are still
- 3:24Speaker 1: so many positives at your fingertips. And now a listener question.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Happy thirty five Emily Woo. So we know that we
- 3:36Speaker 2: are bodies age over time, and that's just a universal truth,
- 3:40Speaker 2: and so you know, it's harder for us to kind
- 3:42Speaker 2: of like stay active and be up to date with
- 3:45Speaker 2: kind of our bodies and how we feel. You've had
- 3:47Speaker 2: a few injuries set backs this year, and you've been
- 3:50Speaker 2: very honest with us about it. Looking ahead, what advice
- 3:54Speaker 2: do you have for your fellow hurdlers looking to adjust
- 3:58Speaker 2: fitness goals with that feeling like we're aging or we're
- 4:02Speaker 2: really giving up help us find motivation thanks.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Our bodies do age over time, and really year thirty
- 4:10Speaker 1: four that felt more apparent than ever as I have
- 4:14Speaker 1: continually fought back against the snagging planter or fasciitis. And
- 4:18Speaker 1: so my advice for hurdlers that are looking to maybe
- 4:22Speaker 1: adjust their fitness goals is first and foremost to have
- 4:26Speaker 1: grace with yourself. Know that it is normal to go
- 4:31Speaker 1: through these periods of frustration. It is normal to maybe
- 4:35Speaker 1: not be able to do all the things that you
- 4:37Speaker 1: used to do when you were twenty one. With that said,
- 4:40Speaker 1: you can make your new normal. You get to decide
- 4:44Speaker 1: what good feels like in this body and meet yourself
- 4:47Speaker 1: with where you are now. I'm also aware that just
- 4:51Speaker 1: because I'm not hitting the same paces that I was
- 4:53Speaker 1: at this time last year doesn't mean that those paces
- 4:55Speaker 1: are gone forever. So that goes back to the topic
- 4:59Speaker 1: of having grace with yourself and knowing that whatever is
- 5:02Speaker 1: meant to be will be. I firmly believe that it
- 5:06Speaker 1: is great to have goals within training, but the reason,
- 5:09Speaker 1: the prime reason that I move my body is because
- 5:12Speaker 1: I want to give back to myself. I want to
- 5:14Speaker 1: fill up my cup and so filling up my cup
- 5:18Speaker 1: means not comparing myself to my old self. Filling up
- 5:21Speaker 1: my cup means finding the joy in the small things.
- 5:26Speaker 1: It means at this point in my life, a little
- 5:28Speaker 1: bit less intensity sometimes so that I continue to show
- 5:31Speaker 1: up day in and day out and do the thing
- 5:34Speaker 1: that I love, which is movement. In general, we shift
- 5:38Speaker 1: and we adapt and we adopt the mindset that movement
- 5:42Speaker 1: is a gift. I am aiming to keep on moving
- 5:46Speaker 1: throughout goodness the rest of my life. My grandmother still
- 5:49Speaker 1: goes on like run walks around her neighborhood and plays
- 5:52Speaker 1: tennis and does dance cardio, and she is in her nineties.
- 5:56Speaker 1: So there's hope for all of us. There really is.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Make sure you're following along with Hurdle over on social
