• 0:00
I bet you like to root for the underdog.
• 0:03
Well, you're in the right place. The gold and silver sector will
• 0:07
offer you ample opportunity to root for the underdog because as
• 0:11
you know, we've been beaten to a pulp over the last two years, 10
• 0:16
years. And it's not just the physical
• 0:19
metals. If you're invested in the mining
• 0:21
stocks like I am, you've really taken a beating.
• 0:25
But is there reason for optimism?
• 0:28
Are there some factors at play that could result in sunny skies
• 0:33
ahead for the precious metals? But what about the mining
• 0:38
stocks? It's even more thought provoking
• 0:40
when we look at some of the crazy relationships that have
• 0:44
developed between the metals and the mining stocks.
• 0:48
Let's dig in right now. Some of these facts about gold
• 0:58
and silver are absolutely crazy. We can talk briefly about China.
• 1:04
The demand for gold alone from China is going through the roof.
• 1:08
They already produce more gold than anyone on the planet.
• 1:12
But you know what they do, they keep it all for themselves and
• 1:16
then they go out to the store, the international market, and
• 1:20
they buy even more. And we also know what's going on
• 1:24
at the Shanghai Gold Exchange, the S GE, Yes, that's this
• 1:28
little market that the Chinese started a decade or so ago to
• 1:33
trade precious metals on their own.
• 1:35
And there's developed a big differentiation between the
• 1:38
price on the Shanghai Gold Exchange and the price of gold
• 1:42
in New York on the COMEX and in London at the LBMA.
• 1:46
Isn't that interesting, but but let's talk about a real negative
• 1:52
factor that's been pushing down the gold price.
• 1:56
How about ETF flows in the West? Yes, the electronic traded
• 2:00
funds, the GLD and this is true for the SLV as well.
• 2:05
We have seen money being pulled out of those funds, guys.
• 2:10
The silver lining, pardon the pun on that one, is the fact
• 2:14
that when money starts flowing back into those ETF's, and it
• 2:18
will, that could provide the marginal support we need for
• 2:23
prices to go much, much higher. And it's a similar situation
• 2:28
with the good old powerful store of value, the paper Unicorn fart
• 2:34
Dust U.S. dollar. Because you probably heard the
• 2:38
dollar has been so, so strong lately and that's been a real
• 2:43
headwind for the gold price and the silver price and the
• 2:46
platinum price as well. But that doesn't last forever.
• 2:51
As a matter of fact, the dollar where it is right now at about
• 2:54
1:05 on the DX Y index, that's historically high.
• 3:00
It's not an all time high, but when you look at a longterm
• 3:03
chart, the dollar doesn't spend a lot of time the DXY index
• 3:08
above 100 over the last 40 or so year.
• 3:12
So that too will reverse, just like the ETF flows.
• 3:16
And likely those two things could happen at the same time
• 3:20
and present an opportunity, a confluence, a coming together of
• 3:25
factors. That's very positive for gold.
• 3:28
And we know central bank demand has been through the roof.
• 3:31
Yes, the central banks, the most sophisticated financial
• 3:35
institutions in the world, what are what are they doing?
• 3:40
Oh yeah, they're buying gold. Also, countries are repatriating
• 3:46
their gold. If you're looking to buy gold,
• 3:48
silver or platinum, do yourself a favor and check out PIM Bex,
• 3:53
the online precious metals bullion dealer and sponsor of
• 3:57
Ron's Basement. I was a happy customer before
• 4:00
they offered to support the channel.
• 4:02
You'll find they have the best prices, quality and service.
• 4:06
I think Penn Bex is best, and you will too.
• 4:10
And be sure to tell them that you're from Ron's basement.
• 4:12
Hey, wherever we look, we're seeing good signs, good things
• 4:17
to come for the gold price. And you know, that'll bleed
• 4:20
through to the silver price because silver, it's a little
• 4:23
  different, right? It's schizophrenic.
• 4:26
  It's a monetary metal. It's a store of value,
• 4:29
absolutely, but it's also an industrial metal and we know the
• 4:34
industrial demand is going absolutely through the roof for
• 4:39
  silver. And what's really interesting
• 4:41
about silver is that the amount being produced by the mining
• 4:46
companies has been actually going down over the last few
• 4:50
years. And we know there's no money
• 4:53
being spent right now on exploring for silver or building
• 4:58
new silver mines because the price at $2223 per ounce of
• 5:04
silver, it's not profitable. It's not economic for companies
• 5:08
to spend money to try to find more silver.
• 5:10
The only solution for that, what do you think?
• 5:13
Yeah, that's right, higher silver prices.
• 5:17
And what do you think it means when the price of the gold
• 5:20
mining stocks, in particular the junior mining stocks, is
• 5:24
absolutely in the gutter? We have never seen such a
• 5:29
disconnect between the gold price, which actually isn't that
• 5:34
bad at $1900 per oz, and the price of the mining stocks.
• 5:40
Look, it's going to have to be resolved in one of two ways.
• 5:43
Either the mining stocks go up in value to catch up or and we
• 5:48
don't want to see this happen and I don't think it'll happen,
• 5:51
we'll need the gold price to go down precipitously.
• 5:55
But just looking at one of the interesting metrics, there's an
• 5:59
exchange called the TSX, the Toronto Stock Exchange, and
• 6:03
there's the TSX V, the venture, which is where a lot of the
• 6:06
junior gold and silver mining companies are traded.
• 6:10
The volume, the number of shares trading hands is like at near
• 6:14
record lows. That tells us sentiment interest
• 6:18
in that part of the market is near an all time low.
• 6:22
I heard someone recently say that the volume levels that we
• 6:25
have today, the number of shares trading hands is only equal to a
• 6:30
time in the past when gold was trading at sit down for this one
• 6:35
$250 an ounce about what 12% of where the gold price is today.
• 6:41
It's absolutely crazy, the value opportunity in the junior mining
• 6:46
sector and that gives me a good opportunity to thank this video
• 6:49
sponsor First Mining Gold. They're a Canadian gold mining
• 6:54
  company started by Keith Newmeyer.
• 6:56
You may know that name. He's still the chairman of the
• 6:59
board. The company is now headed by Mr.
• 7:01
Dan Wilton. They are a development company.
• 7:05
That means they have two huge, huge gold projects in Canada.
• 7:10
The Duparquet project in Quebec and the Spring Pole project in
• 7:15
Ontario. Guys, both of these projects
• 7:18
have defined resources. Gold in the ground of 5 million
• 7:22
oz each. And they are continuing to
• 7:26
develop those resources, do additional exploration, but
• 7:29
they're also in this exciting phase of moving the projects
• 7:34
forward. OK, getting permits, trying to
• 7:37
build the mines. It's a interesting opportunity.
• 7:40
I'd recommend you check it out. If you want to talk to somebody
• 7:43
at the company, you can reach out to
• 7:45
paul.morristhatspaul@firstmininggold.com. What you might find interesting
• 7:51
about the mining stocks is that sentiment can change overnight.
• 7:57
Look, nobody has a crystal ball, but when things have been beaten
• 8:00
down so low, like they are right now, the opportunity for growth,
• 8:06
The runway ahead is much greater than the chance of the prices
• 8:10
going down. Look, anything can happen,
• 8:12
right? The prices can always go lower.
• 8:15
Any investment is risky, but the opportunity for growth, in my
• 8:20
opinion, far outweighs the risk of downside price depreciation.
• 8:26
We'll see what happens. But remember, in the past when
• 8:30
these shifts do occur, they typically happen very, very
• 8:35
  quickly. I heard Ross Beatty.
• 8:36
He's a mining executive, a legend in the industry.
• 8:40
Say that, you know, if you're not in the stocks when they when
• 8:44
they turn, it's often too late. Hey, I appreciate you joining me
• 8:48
here in the basement. If you want more basement, I'd
• 8:51
love to have you here. Go watch a live stream.
• 8:54
I'll put up a link to that now. But most important, be well and
• 8:58
  I will see you soon.
