- 0:06Speaker 1: I'm C. Thomas Howe, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 0:12Speaker 2: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:14Speaker 2: Picture Association of America. It is intended for mature audiences,
- 0:18Speaker 2: and parental discretion is advised. It's showtime, folks.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Enjoy the show. our nuclear reactor pumping out one million
- 0:40Speaker 3: kilowatts of power.
- 1:08Speaker 4: She tore a hole in our universe. A gateway to
- 1:15Speaker 4: another dimension.
- 1:17Speaker 1: A dimension of pure chaos.
- 1:29Speaker 3: What's up? Welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 1:31Speaker 1: And I'm George.
- 1:32Speaker 3: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from
- 1:34Speaker 3: the Oddity Studios to return to something we kind of
- 1:39Speaker 3: left off in the distance for a while there. Post-snap,
- 1:42Speaker 3: we were all sort of recovering. So we were trying to,
- 1:46Speaker 3: and we did come back. I think we did want
- 1:48Speaker 3: to address, though, well, what does Marvel do after the snap,
- 1:52Speaker 3: after the biggest movie in the world? What do you do?
- 1:54Speaker 3: So we did do a Spider-Man last time. And I
- 1:58Speaker 3: think that was it. I think we're all just kind
- 1:59Speaker 3: of worn out at that point. We're like, you know,
- 2:02Speaker 3: let's just take a break on superheroes for a while.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Like five years.
- 2:05Speaker 3: And it's been that way since then. And again, half
- 2:09Speaker 3: of the, I liked our crew at the time, but
- 2:12Speaker 3: at least one of them has moved out of state.
- 2:15Speaker 3: One has totally weird work hours. So like we can't
- 2:18Speaker 3: originally put those people together anymore in the same room.
- 2:21Speaker 3: And then recently you were like, hey, let's talk about Spider-Man.
- 2:25Speaker 3: I'm like, all right, if you want to get back
- 2:26Speaker 3: into it. roll up the sleeves and get back in.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I mean, you brought it, you brought in the fanatics
- 2:31Speaker 1: and talk about Spider-Man. I mean, come on.
- 2:33Speaker 3: That's what I figured. So we can, we can get
- 2:35Speaker 3: back into it and, uh, re re enter the world
- 2:39Speaker 3: of the super series. So here, here we are.
- 2:42Speaker 1: So I'm, I'm very happy to be here. I tell
- 2:45Speaker 1: you what, uh, of course the whole, the snap blip thing, uh,
- 2:48Speaker 1: we've seen in some, you know, the other Marvel movies
- 2:52Speaker 1: before Spider-Man and a little bit after this on the series, uh,
- 2:54Speaker 1: of kind of how they've treated that. And really, that's
- 2:56Speaker 1: been very curious.
- 2:59Speaker 3: And we're still figuring it out. Oh, yeah. As each
- 3:02Speaker 3: one happens, you're like, oh, wait, okay, so this, like,
- 3:05Speaker 3: I'm still sitting there trying to piece together some of
- 3:07Speaker 3: the things that have fallen into place by throwing these
- 3:11Speaker 3: dominoes down the road by years. Like, I'm just like, oh, wait,
- 3:15Speaker 3: so now we're not doing things like we did before
- 3:17Speaker 3: because there's a weird blip and everything's crazy now, so.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Well, that's one thing I like about the MCU. I mean,
- 3:23Speaker 1: I've been reading Marvel Comics for 40-some-odd years. And it's
- 3:28Speaker 1: always there's an event of the week, essentially, or the
- 3:30Speaker 1: month or whatever else. And so the world is always
- 3:33Speaker 1: getting destroyed and being rebuilt every damn month. You know,
- 3:37Speaker 1: there's always some major event. And if it's not the Avengers,
- 3:41Speaker 1: it's the X-Men or the Fantastic Four or somebody else.
- 3:43Speaker 1: You know, something's getting blown up somewhere. And Manhattan... God
- 3:48Speaker 1: bless them, is usually the victim of most of this
- 3:49Speaker 1: because that's where all the superheroes mostly are.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Yeah, pretty much.
- 3:52Speaker 1: But the MCU really kind of holds on to like, no, no, no, folks. Like,
- 3:56Speaker 1: the world ended for half the entire world for five
- 4:01Speaker 1: years and they didn't, basically to them, it was a
- 4:04Speaker 1: snap and a blip.
- 4:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:05Speaker 1: You know, but to the rest of the world who survived,
- 4:08Speaker 1: I mean, we dealt without you and then now we
- 4:10Speaker 1: have to deal with you coming back.
- 4:12Speaker 3: And that's been a huge plot point in some of
- 4:14Speaker 3: these things. And I appreciate the hell out of that. Yeah,
- 4:16Speaker 3: I mean, because that's, not a minor thing. So I
- 4:20Speaker 3: feel like a lesser studio or lesser, I would say films,
- 4:24Speaker 3: but even series now, like all would kind of just
- 4:26Speaker 3: write that off and be like, eh, whatever that was
- 4:29Speaker 3: taken care of in that last movie. And now we
- 4:31Speaker 3: just start from scratch. It's like, well, no, the, the
- 4:33Speaker 3: fallout from that is going to affect everything from here
- 4:36Speaker 3: on out forever. So it's like, yeah, I do like that.
- 4:39Speaker 3: They take that seriously and not only included in there sometimes,
- 4:44Speaker 3: sometimes very heavily, it plays part of everything. So, They've
- 4:48Speaker 3: always been good about that.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Yeah, because, well, as I say, there's been, you know,
- 4:52Speaker 1: lots of questions, you know, raised because, of course, we've
- 4:55Speaker 1: seen the Hawkeye series, which dealt with, you know, Black
- 4:59Speaker 1: Widow's sister, Yelena, experiencing the snap and blip before our eyes,
- 5:03Speaker 1: which was awesome. Yeah. Those are great effects there.
- 5:05Speaker 3: And kind of answered some of that question of like, well, what?
- 5:08Speaker 3: Happened when they left and then what happened when they
- 5:11Speaker 3: came back.
- 5:11Speaker 1: It was literally. They didn't even know. Snap, snap.
- 5:14Speaker 3: And back in the exact same place they left.
- 5:16Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Which left me with a lot of weird questions of like,
- 5:18Speaker 3: where are those guys in that helicopter that crashed?
- 5:21Speaker 6: Right.
- 5:21Speaker 3: And people driving cars that now are back where they were.
- 5:26Speaker 3: It leaves a lot of weird questions.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Or like, you know. Wilson Fisk, the kingpin. When we
- 5:30Speaker 1: last saw him, criminal empire. Now, after the snap and blip,
- 5:34Speaker 1: his empire is not what it used to be, and
- 5:36Speaker 1: he's slumming it in Hawaiian shirts. Love that.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Starting all over. Well, that was what I was going
- 5:42Speaker 3: to do to kind of ease us into the Marvel world.
- 5:44Speaker 3: We talked about the beginning of Hawkeye at Christmastime, so
- 5:47Speaker 3: now we can come back and kind of ease our
- 5:49Speaker 3: way in. What did you think of the overall now
- 5:51Speaker 3: that we've wrapped up Hawkeye?
- 5:53Speaker 1: I really enjoyed the whole series. I was concerned with
- 5:56Speaker 1: some of the secondary characters getting killed off, all the
- 6:00Speaker 1: LARPers and whatnot.
- 6:01Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Because some of those characters get killed off in the book.
- 6:04Speaker 1: So I was glad they survived. I loved seeing D'Onofrio
- 6:08Speaker 1: back as Wilson Fisk. That was a huge thrill for me.
- 6:11Speaker 3: I think I knew they wanted to bring him back in,
- 6:14Speaker 3: but I wasn't sure that it was going to happen
- 6:15Speaker 3: in this because I really hadn't done a whole lot of.
- 6:17Speaker 1: It was a pretty closely guarded secret, apparently.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't... I don't really have time to go
- 6:21Speaker 3: digging into internet bullshit.
- 6:23Speaker 1: That's why you have to.
- 6:24Speaker 3: I'm making this to put my own content out there,
- 6:26Speaker 3: so I ignore a lot of other people's content. No offense, guys.
- 6:30Speaker 3: So yeah, I really go into a lot of these
- 6:31Speaker 3: kind of blind. I was really like, they get to
- 6:34Speaker 3: that little photo of him, and I'm like, oh, he's back.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Because that was such a great performance in the previous series.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Probably the finest performance we've seen of a villain, period,
- 6:44Speaker 1: as Marvel stuff goes. Even Josh Brolin killed his Thanos. Oh, yeah.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Because Thanos is a favorite villain of mine, too. And
- 6:51Speaker 1: to get, you know, as good of a performance, you know,
- 6:54Speaker 1: from D'Onofrio as Kingpin. So, all I got to say is,
- 6:57Speaker 1: whoever they cast as Doctor Doom, when eventually we're going
- 6:59Speaker 1: to see Doctor Doom, it better be Thanos.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Because that's my guy. And they've been building up to
- 7:04Speaker 3: that for so long now that we've never seen that MCU-wise.
- 7:08Speaker 3: That you've got a huge hurdle to get over there. Yeah.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Well, I mean, frankly, of those Fantastic Four movies that
- 7:15Speaker 1: have existed, you can only go up.
- 7:19Speaker 3: That's true. Except for Silver Surfer. Doug's always awesome.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Yes. Silver Surfer was perfect with, what was it, Larry
- 7:27Speaker 1: Fishburne did the voice on, didn't he?
- 7:28Speaker 3: Probably.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I think so. That was very good. I loved
- 7:32Speaker 1: Chiklis as the Thing. I loved Chris Evans. He just
- 7:36Speaker 1: is the Thing. In his real life, he's kind of
- 7:39Speaker 1: the Thing. I loved Captain America as the Torch. Honestly,
- 7:42Speaker 1: I didn't have any problem with the actual Fantastic Four
- 7:45Speaker 1: as well.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Yeah, the casting wasn't that far off.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Yeah, it was.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Really, yeah.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Everybody was their characters as they should have been. Doctor Doom,
- 7:52Speaker 1: they should have... No, no, no. He wasn't on the ship.
- 7:56Speaker 1: He doesn't get his superpowers. The man is the... He's
- 7:58Speaker 1: a scientist. He's a magician. He's a magician. His mama
- 8:01Speaker 1: was a gypsy. That's where the magic stuff comes from.
- 8:03Speaker 1: He blames Reed for all of his failings. Come on!
- 8:08Speaker 1: It's not that hard to write this guy. He is
- 8:10Speaker 1: arrogance personified. He's Donald Trump with a mask and a kingdom.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Don't give him any ideas. Suddenly there'll be a.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Metal mask on his face. He's a competent Donald Trump
- 8:23Speaker 1: with a mask and a kingdom. There we go. It
- 8:28Speaker 1: better be good, but Again, but going back to Hawkeye, though, yeah,
- 8:31Speaker 1: really enjoyed the show. Haley Steinfeld's portrayal of the Kate
- 8:36Speaker 1: Bishop character was great.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I always like her, but yeah, she really did
- 8:40Speaker 3: kind of find something about this character that she could
- 8:43Speaker 3: latch on to. And what I think in the long run,
- 8:47Speaker 3: especially as we got, it's one of those I can never, again,
- 8:50Speaker 3: not paying that much attention to stuff beforehand. I always
- 8:53Speaker 3: start what little I watch series, which usually is just
- 8:56Speaker 3: Marvel and Star Wars at this point. It's rare that
- 8:58Speaker 3: I start other series. But I just don't have time
- 9:01Speaker 3: for them. But trying to at least get those like
- 9:04Speaker 3: I got into this one and I still I think
- 9:06Speaker 3: I did the same thing with Captain America or Winter
- 9:09Speaker 3: Soldier or whatever that one. You know, it was the
- 9:11Speaker 3: same thing. I think I was assuming it was like
- 9:12Speaker 3: an eight part thing.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 9:14Speaker 3: And so all of a sudden they seem like they're
- 9:16Speaker 3: wrapping stuff up. I was like, wait, is this the
- 9:17Speaker 3: last episode? And I kind of like the week before Hawk,
- 9:21Speaker 3: I was like, wait. is this next one it? Like,
- 9:23Speaker 3: I realize they're going to have to wrap this up
- 9:25Speaker 3: real quick. So it's weird that, like, there's no set
- 9:27Speaker 3: standard for series. Like, some of them are six, some
- 9:30Speaker 3: of them are eight, 12, 15. Like, you never know
- 9:32Speaker 3: with these running series. They just do whatever they want.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Apparently with, like, the shorter ones, because, like, the upcoming
- 9:37Speaker 1: She-Hulk series is supposed to be, like, a half hour,
- 9:39Speaker 1: 28 minute kind of show there. I think they're supposed
- 9:43Speaker 1: to have, like, eight or nine episodes or something like
- 9:45Speaker 1: that for that one. I don't know about some of
- 9:48Speaker 1: the other series. So, like I said, we've got Three
- 9:51Speaker 1: shows that basically we've seen footage from, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight,
- 9:54Speaker 1: and She-Hulk. So one of those three is going to
- 9:56Speaker 1: be our first of the year. I have no idea
- 9:57Speaker 1: which one. They have not given me any dates, which
- 9:59Speaker 1: is true.
- 10:00Speaker 5: Me nuts.
- 10:00Speaker 3: There's a lot of stuff in the works, and we
- 10:02Speaker 3: don't know what we're getting, really.
- 10:03Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 10:04Speaker 1: And, of course, the Hawkeye... series is going to be
- 10:08Speaker 1: spinning off a series echo, which is following the exploits
- 10:11Speaker 1: of Maya.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Um, and kind of her journey. And I got a
- 10:14Speaker 1: feeling we're going to see Fisk popped up in that again,
- 10:16Speaker 1: because there's no way he's dead. Yeah. In the comics,
- 10:18Speaker 1: she literally shoots him point blank in the face. And
- 10:20Speaker 1: what does it do? Temporarily blinds him.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Well, I mean, I do love it again, just showing
- 10:25Speaker 3: not just D'Onofrio's performance, but just the character. Like she
- 10:29Speaker 3: just point blank shoots him in the chest and he
- 10:31Speaker 3: just keeps coming at her. I was like, that's a
- 10:34Speaker 3: hell of a villain that like, Doesn't even break stride, basically.
- 10:38Speaker 1: That's the thing, is that people always, you know, kind
- 10:40Speaker 1: of the running joke with people in the Marvel Universe
- 10:43Speaker 1: is calling the Kingpin the Fat Man. That's why you
- 10:45Speaker 1: have the Fat Man motors and stuff like that. People
- 10:47Speaker 1: always assume he's a fat guy. No, he's not. Yes,
- 10:53Speaker 1: he is large, but he is built like a fucking tank.
- 10:59Speaker 1: I mean, I've seen panels where him training with ninjas,
- 11:03Speaker 1: like eight ninjas, and he's sitting there like, just wearing
- 11:06Speaker 1: like a loincloth kind of thing, kicking eight ninjas' asses.
- 11:09Speaker 1: And he's like, just, he's solid, you know? So it, yeah,
- 11:12Speaker 1: the man is humongous. So my buddy Marco kind of
- 11:17Speaker 1: was kind of wondering, he's like, well, I'm wondering, you know,
- 11:19Speaker 1: bringing in fists, like, how's he going to do like
- 11:20Speaker 1: fight like Spider-Man or something like that? After seeing him
- 11:23Speaker 1: tackle Kate Bishop, he can take on Spider-Man. It'd be
- 11:26Speaker 1: a fight.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm looking forward to whatever they do with him.
- 11:31Speaker 3: But that's where I was originally going was like, this
- 11:34Speaker 3: is a really interesting one to kind of sandwich in
- 11:36Speaker 3: all these other things because, and it sort of fits
- 11:40Speaker 3: with where we're going this next movie because this is
- 11:44Speaker 3: maybe the most like, low stakes adventure we've seen. Like,
- 11:49Speaker 3: the world isn't ending.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Right.
- 11:51Speaker 3: Like, we're more concerned about Lucky the Pizza Dog and
- 11:54Speaker 3: his safety than, like, anything else that's going on in this. Like,
- 11:57Speaker 3: it's very, like, there are, you know, big villains and
- 12:00Speaker 3: there are people that are gonna get hurt, but it's
- 12:02Speaker 3: not world ending. It's not, like, gonna take out, you know,
- 12:06Speaker 3: half the people in the known universe. Or even just,
- 12:10Speaker 3: it's not gonna blow up any buildings. Like, it's like,
- 12:12Speaker 3: there's minor issues here and there, but, like, it's not
- 12:16Speaker 3: That same level, which I'm not taking that as a criticism.
- 12:19Speaker 3: I think it's like there have to be adventures like
- 12:21Speaker 3: that or you lose perspective. And I think this was
- 12:24Speaker 3: such a good version of that, that it's like it's
- 12:27Speaker 3: what's happening is important to our characters. And you see,
- 12:30Speaker 3: you know, Kate is learning her lessons along the way,
- 12:33Speaker 3: regardless of how big the adventure is that then she
- 12:35Speaker 3: can use, you know, in the middle of bigger, crazier
- 12:38Speaker 3: things in the future. But like we kind of need
- 12:41Speaker 3: these to sort of like balance out the end of
- 12:44Speaker 3: the world situation. thanos's and god knows whatever else is
- 12:47Speaker 3: gonna be thrown at us so i really like this
- 12:50Speaker 3: grounded adventure that kind of takes place in the span
- 12:53Speaker 3: of you know a couple of days and like a
- 12:55Speaker 3: handful of characters and like it's just not as overwhelming
- 12:58Speaker 3: as i mean even like the the winter soldier series
- 13:02Speaker 3: was like huge you know people with superpowers and they're
- 13:06Speaker 3: battling each other and they're groups you know terrorists essentially
- 13:10Speaker 3: like super soldiers it's yeah so it's like it's a
- 13:12Speaker 3: much bigger scale than like you know this is just
- 13:14Speaker 3: that neighborhood more or less and they're you know just
- 13:17Speaker 3: hanging out up until christmas like trying to figure this
- 13:20Speaker 3: stuff out so it's like i like that aspect of
- 13:23Speaker 3: it i like that it was giving us a nice
- 13:26Speaker 3: friendly neighborhood hawkeye to like give us that kind of
- 13:29Speaker 3: story that it doesn't have to be world ending to
- 13:31Speaker 3: still be important to our characters and the people around
- 13:34Speaker 3: them right well it's.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Interesting you use the friendly neighborhood hawkeye because he was
- 13:39Speaker 1: of the avengers the one we knew the least about
- 13:40Speaker 1: you know they've always kind of set it up that
- 13:43Speaker 1: way um hawkeye in the comics depending on which version
- 13:46Speaker 1: you got one's kind of a goofball one's kind of
- 13:48Speaker 1: a little more there have been two different versions of
- 13:51Speaker 1: him in the comics. Traditionally, he was more of the
- 13:55Speaker 1: bit of a goofball. When he was saving the world,
- 13:58Speaker 1: he could shoot anything and hit anything. He was great,
- 14:00Speaker 1: but his personal life was garbage. In an alternate universe, Hawkeye,
- 14:04Speaker 1: he was much more an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., very serious guy.
- 14:07Speaker 1: He did have a family, and they were all killed,
- 14:08Speaker 1: and that made him go over the edge. So, a
- 14:12Speaker 1: couple different takes on him. This really kind of fleshed
- 14:16Speaker 1: out the MCU's Hawkeyes. Like, This is a guy who,
- 14:18Speaker 1: you know, they always said, you know, Blackwood had a
- 14:20Speaker 1: lot of red in her ledger. Holy shit.
- 14:23Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Clint's got a lot. Yeah. I mean, to the fact
- 14:25Speaker 1: that how he and, you know, Natasha finally met, how
- 14:30Speaker 1: they actually met, he was supposed to kill her. Yeah.
- 14:32Speaker 1: And didn't. So it's like, yeah, he is basically just
- 14:36Speaker 1: a lapdog for S.H.I.E.L.D.
- 14:38Speaker 3: And they've played him like that. He's 75%. They've took
- 14:43Speaker 3: both of those. He's mostly serious all the time, to
- 14:46Speaker 3: the point of that's almost the punchline of a lot
- 14:49Speaker 3: of the jokes when it comes to him and other characters.
- 14:51Speaker 3: But then there is a little bit of he'll still
- 14:53Speaker 3: come off with a one-liner now and then. So he's
- 14:55Speaker 3: got a little goofball in him, but he's mostly serious,
- 14:59Speaker 3: especially once you get into the family mode. It's like,
- 15:01Speaker 3: I'm just... I gotta take care of my family and
- 15:04Speaker 3: protect other people because that's what I do. But yeah,
- 15:07Speaker 3: there's definitely... backstory there of a lot of different stuff.
- 15:12Speaker 3: It's all really interesting once you get into the Black
- 15:14Speaker 3: Widow stuff too and their relationship. I don't know. The
- 15:20Speaker 3: unwritten part of that has been the most fascinating thing
- 15:23Speaker 3: about these last 10 years is like the offhand mentions
- 15:26Speaker 3: of it here and there has become kind of more
- 15:30Speaker 3: formative of the characters I think than fleshing it out
- 15:33Speaker 3: in a whole Black Widow movie or the backstory we
- 15:35Speaker 3: get here. Like I think the other things that are
- 15:38Speaker 3: underlying is equally as important, really.
- 15:40Speaker 1: And honestly, that's what I love so much about the
- 15:43Speaker 1: MCU versus the DC movies, that it is a literal
- 15:46Speaker 1: copy of how the comics work. I mean, you could
- 15:50Speaker 1: be reading a random issue of Marvel Team-Up in the
- 15:54Speaker 1: 1970s and 80s or whatever else, and, you know, Spider-Man's
- 15:57Speaker 1: teaming up with Johnny Jacknuts. You know, it doesn't matter.
- 15:59Speaker 1: It was a new guy every week. But suddenly, they
- 16:02Speaker 1: would mention something that happened in another book that was
- 16:05Speaker 1: kind of like, A further advancement of that story or
- 16:08Speaker 1: say somebody's title would get canceled. Well, here's an anthology
- 16:12Speaker 1: book where you can have two issues to complete that
- 16:14Speaker 1: story in. So it was always stuff like that. It's
- 16:18Speaker 1: a total shared universe.
- 16:19Speaker 3: It is a universe.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Yes.
- 16:20Speaker 3: And like the things that are going on are still
- 16:23Speaker 3: going on even in your story. They're just going on
- 16:25Speaker 3: over here. But like. it is part of that same
- 16:28Speaker 3: big story.
- 16:29Speaker 1: And DC, in the comics, it is totally that way.
- 16:31Speaker 1: I mean, they were the ones that created the multiverse
- 16:34Speaker 1: in the first place. They beat Marvel to the punch.
- 16:37Speaker 1: But in the movies, it's... I agree. Thank God we
- 16:43Speaker 1: got Batman in March. That's all I got to say.
- 16:46Speaker 3: It does look more and more interesting the more I
- 16:48Speaker 3: see the new trailers. I'm up for at least watching it.
- 16:52Speaker 3: I will decide later.
- 16:54Speaker 1: My cinematography, at least in the trailer, looks like it's
- 16:57Speaker 1: dark as hell.
- 16:57Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 16:58Speaker 1: But we can see things. Yes, you can have a
- 17:01Speaker 1: light in a dark movie and it still look good.
- 17:04Speaker 3: What you're saying is you want to see Batman out
- 17:06Speaker 3: in broad daylight in the middle of the street having
- 17:08Speaker 3: a fight. Oh, wait.
- 17:11Speaker 1: I mean, he doesn't have to be exclusive to the night.
- 17:13Speaker 3: I didn't have that issue with that movie. Everybody hated
- 17:16Speaker 3: that in that third Nolan movie of him out in
- 17:18Speaker 3: the middle of the street having a fight in broad daylight.
- 17:21Speaker 3: I was like, it still looks like Batman to me.
- 17:23Speaker 1: I just hate this new cinematography where we're going to
- 17:27Speaker 1: use natural light in darkness and then you can't see anything.
- 17:31Speaker 1: I'm like, even if you're in a black theater, there's
- 17:33Speaker 1: no light anywhere except from the projection booth and you
- 17:36Speaker 1: still can't see anything. We're still watching a movie.
- 17:38Speaker 3: We still have to be able to follow the story.
- 17:40Speaker 1: It's like, did you not hire a lighting director? I mean,
- 17:43Speaker 1: what the hell?
- 17:44Speaker 3: You would think with the budgets they have on these,
- 17:46Speaker 3: they would piece that together.
- 17:49Speaker 1: One episode of Game of Thrones, people were raving about
- 17:51Speaker 1: the big fight scene and, oh, you got all the
- 17:52Speaker 1: dragons and all this. Great, couldn't see a goddamn thing.
- 17:56Speaker 1: It's good to know it happened.
- 17:58Speaker 3: I didn't see it.
- 17:58Speaker 1: You had an entire half season of The Walking Dead
- 18:00Speaker 1: you couldn't see shit because lighting people.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Lighting.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Lighting.
- 18:06Speaker 3: It's the key.
- 18:08Speaker 1: I'm not talking about bra and neon light, Joel Schumacher.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Christopher Nolan found a way there. Those three movies look spectacular.
- 18:16Speaker 3: A lot of that is dark. It is shot at night.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Up until that last movie, everything's at night with him
- 18:21Speaker 3: pretty much. But guess what?
- 18:23Speaker 1: There's definitely a way to shoot that. I don't know.
- 18:29Speaker 3: All right well on that note let's turn on the
- 18:34Speaker 3: dark wait what do we.
- 18:35Speaker 6: Get more out of life go out to a movie ever.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Since i got bit by that spider.
- 18:56Speaker 6: I've only had one week.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Where my life has felt normal.
- 19:02Speaker 3: That was when you found out.
- 19:11Speaker 4: When you botched that spell where you wanted everyone to
- 19:13Speaker 4: forget that Peter Parker's Spider-Man... from every universe.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Hello, Peter. You're not Peter Parker. I'm sorry, what was
- 19:46Speaker 1: your name again? Dr. Otto Octavius.
- 19:52Speaker 3: Wait, no, seriously, what's your actual name?
- 19:56Speaker 1: There are others out there. We need to send them back. So,
- 20:00Speaker 1: Scooby-Doo this crap. You know, all this is kind of
- 20:03Speaker 1: your mess.
- 20:04Speaker 3: I know a couple of magic words myself, starting with
- 20:06Speaker 3: the word please.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Please, Scooby-Doo this crap.
- 20:16Speaker 3: You're flying out into the darkness to fight ghosts.
- 20:20Speaker 1: What do you mean? They all die fighting Spider-Man. It's
- 20:25Speaker 1: their fate.
- 20:29Speaker 5: I'm sorry, kid.
- 20:31Speaker 6: Yeah, me too. Don't.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Look, there has to be another way.
- 20:39Speaker 1: There isn't. They're a danger to our universe. You're not
- 20:44Speaker 1: gonna take this away from me.
- 20:49Speaker 2: You're struggling to have everything you want while the world
- 20:56Speaker 2: tries to make you choose.
- 21:02Speaker 3: This is all my fault.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I can't save everyone. What's happening?
- 21:26Speaker 2: They're starting to come through, and I can't stop them.
- 21:37Speaker 3: Spider-Man, Spider-Man Does whatever a spider can Spins a web
- 21:43Speaker 3: any size.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Catches thieves just like flies Look out!
- 21:49Speaker 3: There comes a Spider-Man Is he strong?
- 21:54Speaker 1: Listen, buddy He's got radioactive blood.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Can he swing from a thread?
- 22:00Speaker 1: Take a look overhead. Hey there. There goes the Spider-Man.
- 22:05Speaker 3: We did actually go. This is one of the rare occasions.
- 22:09Speaker 3: Half the time we just sit at home and watch stuff.
- 22:11Speaker 3: But this is one of the times we went out
- 22:13Speaker 3: on the town and saw a movie.
- 22:15Speaker 1: I went twice.
- 22:16Speaker 3: That's crazy talk. In a theater with human beings.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Well, one time I took my nephew, the other time
- 22:23Speaker 1: my wife. So we tried to pick showings that were
- 22:26Speaker 1: modestly attended.
- 22:26Speaker 3: There was a decent amount of people this time. More
- 22:30Speaker 3: than in the past, but I haven't been to... I mean,
- 22:32Speaker 3: it's just been a handful that I've even gone to
- 22:34Speaker 3: in this past year.
- 22:34Speaker 1: I mean, the box office in this Spidey movie is crazy.
- 22:36Speaker 3: But, that's what I was going to say. It obviously
- 22:39Speaker 3: shows that people are still willing to leave the house
- 22:42Speaker 3: and go out into the world because they... I mean,
- 22:45Speaker 3: they're blowing up. They keep getting higher to the point
- 22:48Speaker 3: you think, well, nothing's going to top this. And then
- 22:51Speaker 3: another year rolls around, and the next movie comes along
- 22:53Speaker 3: and tops, if not gets pretty damn close to something
- 22:56Speaker 3: like Endgame, which already shattered every record they had.
- 23:00Speaker 1: I think what I read last time was domestically it
- 23:03Speaker 1: was like $ 600 million was over that, or like $ 633
- 23:06Speaker 1: or something like that. But worldwide it was already a
- 23:10Speaker 1: billion or something.
- 23:12Speaker 3: It's insane.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:13Speaker 5: Oh.
- 23:14Speaker 1: So anybody who thought at this point now this is
- 23:17Speaker 1: Tom Holland's last Spider-Man movie, you are kidding yourself.
- 23:19Speaker 7: Ladies and gentlemen.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Yeah, let's be real here.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Well, there were two different camps before this movie started
- 23:24Speaker 1: because the deal with Sony was kind of iffy between
- 23:28Speaker 1: the shared custody sort of deal here. So it was
- 23:32Speaker 1: a little iffy sort of thing where at the beginning
- 23:35Speaker 1: of the production of this movie, there was no deal, basically.
- 23:37Speaker 1: It was like, Sony's like, we will handle this. You
- 23:38Speaker 1: handle this. This is over after this.
- 23:41Speaker 3: We finished our little partnership. We're all kind of doing
- 23:44Speaker 3: our own thing now.
- 23:45Speaker 1: And then.
- 23:46Speaker 3: Thanks to Tom Holland, more or less. He sort of
- 23:48Speaker 3: fought for it and kept it going. And that, I think,
- 23:52Speaker 3: before we even get to the breakdown here, I will
- 23:55Speaker 3: say from the real world side of it, that's maybe
- 23:57Speaker 3: one of the most impressive things about this movie is.
- 24:00Speaker 1: The fact that it happened.
- 24:02Speaker 3: It is one of those times when you're watching Roger Rabbit,
- 24:06Speaker 3: and you're like, I shouldn't be seeing these characters in
- 24:09Speaker 3: the same place at the same time, and I am.
- 24:11Speaker 3: That's impressive. Or, I guess, Wreck-It Ralph did that kind
- 24:15Speaker 3: of stuff. When you see from the legal end of it,
- 24:19Speaker 3: you're just like, how did this happen? How did all
- 24:23Speaker 3: this come together?
- 24:26Speaker 1: It's an absolute miracle this film was made Period. Before
- 24:29Speaker 1: you get into the guest stars. Oh, yeah.
- 24:32Speaker 3: Just the fact that they salvaged what was going on
- 24:35Speaker 3: with Sony and Disney to make a movie together. Period.
- 24:38Speaker 1: With Tom Holland. And then pulling out the stops they did. Granted,
- 24:44Speaker 1: I follow the production of this movie pretty closely. So
- 24:49Speaker 1: most of the surprises in this film were not surprises.
- 24:53Speaker 1: I was expecting them to happen immediately. When they happen,
- 24:55Speaker 1: did I still shit kittens? Absolutely, yes. Did a little
- 25:00Speaker 1: tear shed when Toby steps through that damn portal looking like,
- 25:03Speaker 1: as they say, a really cool youth counselor, youth pastor
- 25:07Speaker 1: or whatnot. I have heard that, yes. It's like, yes.
- 25:10Speaker 1: It's like I was excited as all shit. Spidey's lawyer.
- 25:17Speaker 3: There's an extra little bonus.
- 25:18Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Expect to see him pop. Oh, yeah. We don't know
- 25:22Speaker 1: of a new Daredevil series, but we're going to be
- 25:25Speaker 1: seeing Matt Murdock a lot.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I've already heard definitely people saying, we're sure She-Hulk,
- 25:31Speaker 3: he's going to show up.
- 25:33Speaker 1: Well, that's a definite. Here's their being cheeky. Kevin Feige
- 25:38Speaker 1: confirmed that Charlie Cox would appear as Matt Murdock in
- 25:42Speaker 1: the She-Hulk series.
- 25:43Speaker 3: Right.
- 25:43Speaker 1: You can't do a show about one of the legal
- 25:47Speaker 1: powers in the Marvel Universe and not consider the other.
- 25:49Speaker 3: You're in the same city and he's a lawyer.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Like, why wouldn't this character be there? There's two superhero
- 25:53Speaker 1: lawyers in the MCU. Because that's what we need. Superhero lawyers. Well, see,
- 25:59Speaker 1: that's the interesting thing, too, is that, you know, Matt
- 26:01Speaker 1: is always kind of, you know, hid his identity and whatnot.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Whereas in the comics, she Hulk. It is very out.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Shows up in court with a briefcase and green.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:12Speaker 3: I'm here to argue my case.
- 26:14Speaker 1: But she always had two things going for her entire
- 26:17Speaker 1: superhero career. A, she is not her cousin. She is
- 26:20Speaker 1: the well-adjusted Hulk. Bruce Banner is the one who's got...
- 26:24Speaker 1: He's got issues. He's got daddy issues. He's got mommy issues.
- 26:28Speaker 1: He's got anger issues. Internal issues, yeah. Yeah, he's... Bruce
- 26:31Speaker 1: is tortured. Whereas Jennifer is far more well-adjusted. And also,
- 26:37Speaker 1: she is a member of the Fantastic Four and the Avengers.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:40Speaker 1: So, in MCU, she is royalty. Because she has been
- 26:44Speaker 1: a member of both of those teams. Very upfront. So,
- 26:47Speaker 1: it's like... The heroes that are part of those two
- 26:49Speaker 1: particular teams, and if you don't wear a mask, unless
- 26:52Speaker 1: you're Captain America, you are worshipped. So, yeah. She's doing great,
- 26:58Speaker 1: and I'm looking forward to the series. I'm sure.
- 27:01Speaker 3: We'll get back to that.
- 27:03Speaker 1: But it did bring up some questions, and we kind
- 27:05Speaker 1: of get some questions. There's a lot of questions that
- 27:09Speaker 1: some of these previous movies before we get to Spider-Man
- 27:11Speaker 1: have posed, and Spider-Man answered one of them in particular. Yeah.
- 27:15Speaker 1: As in Shang-Chi at the end, when they're talking about
- 27:18Speaker 1: the rings with Wong, and we got Banner and Captain
- 27:22Speaker 1: Marvel appearing. Many questions popped up right there. One, who
- 27:27Speaker 1: are these people behind the rings? It's probably Fin Fang Foom.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Can't wait for that one. Big-ass dragon, space alien talking.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Awesome.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Two, oh, Carol got her hair grown out. Three, why
- 27:40Speaker 1: is Banner not Smart Hulk and the arm is still
- 27:43Speaker 1: in the sling? I did, yeah.
- 27:44Speaker 3: I did hear a lot of that and went, I
- 27:47Speaker 3: don't even know where to go with that one.
- 27:49Speaker 1: But the main question. This is some big magic shit
- 27:53Speaker 1: affecting the whole universe. Why is Shang-Chi talking to Wong?
- 27:58Speaker 3: That one we definitely had answered.
- 28:00Speaker 1: That one we definitely had answered and it's a very
- 28:02Speaker 1: cheeky answer too. He got it on a technicality.
- 28:05Speaker 3: I mean, once again, the blip does it to it.
- 28:10Speaker 1: That was just great. I'm going into it, and I'm going, okay, well,
- 28:13Speaker 1: no strange to this. Maybe they're going to answer that question.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Wong is obviously very busy. He's like, oh, yeah, he's
- 28:18Speaker 1: the Sorcerer Supreme now. I mean, you leave for five years.
- 28:22Speaker 1: What do you think? They've got to do something. I
- 28:24Speaker 1: just love it, though. Yeah, that was good.
- 28:26Speaker 3: All right, let's officially get into it here. So this
- 28:30Speaker 3: week's Out on the Town feature is Spider-Man colon... No
- 28:33Speaker 3: way home. The year is 2021. The director, John Watts,
- 28:37Speaker 3: and the plot, according to IMDb. With Spider-Man's identity now revealed,
- 28:42Speaker 3: Peter asked Doctor Strange for help. When a spell goes wrong,
- 28:46Speaker 3: dangerous foes from other worlds start to appear, forcing Peter
- 28:49Speaker 3: to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man. With
- 28:53Speaker 3: that spoiler alert, we're going to ruin the hell out
- 28:55Speaker 3: of this, so I'm assuming based on the billions of
- 28:58Speaker 3: dollars you've seen it by now. But if not, go
- 29:02Speaker 3: watch it before you listen.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, pause, go see the movie. It's two and
- 29:07Speaker 1: a half hours.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Start right back up right now.
- 29:09Speaker 1: And folks, there are two post-credit scenes. Do not leave early.
- 29:13Speaker 1: You should be trained by this point.
- 29:14Speaker 3: I would assume by now you know that's coming, but.
- 29:16Speaker 1: I've seen the movie twice, and I stayed in my
- 29:18Speaker 1: seat twice.
- 29:20Speaker 3: I mean, the mid-credits, they're still kind of playing the music.
- 29:22Speaker 3: They haven't even turned the lights up half the time. So, like,
- 29:25Speaker 3: people know that one. But, yeah, I mean, the handful of, like,
- 29:28Speaker 3: normal weirdos that get up and start filing out. I'm like, what?
- 29:30Speaker 3: What are you doing?
- 29:31Speaker 1: Dude, I couldn't leave a James Bond movie back in
- 29:33Speaker 1: the day until I saw James Bond will return at
- 29:35Speaker 1: the end of the credits. He might not return. I
- 29:37Speaker 1: need to make sure. You know I mean, you people
- 29:41Speaker 1: need to be trained. It irritated me when I saw
- 29:44Speaker 1: people getting up and leaving. I'm like, folks, we ain't
- 29:46Speaker 1: over yet.
- 29:47Speaker 3: What movie did you buy a ticket for?
- 29:48Speaker 1: Come on. Get it together.
- 29:51Speaker 3: So, normally I'm like, hey, where do we start with
- 29:55Speaker 3: this movie? But this one... It starts right where we
- 29:58Speaker 3: left off last time. It immediately picks up the second
- 30:01Speaker 3: we left the last Spider-Man movie. So I guess that's
- 30:04Speaker 3: where we begin.
- 30:05Speaker 1: I tell you what, and I had a lot of
- 30:08Speaker 1: fun with that, because to bring J. Jonah Jameson back, and, oh, yeah,
- 30:14Speaker 1: just absolutely. And I love the kind of, they had
- 30:18Speaker 1: to modernize him, because people aren't reading newspapers anymore. So
- 30:20Speaker 1: make him like an Alex Jones kind of guy.
- 30:22Speaker 3: It is funny that they've had to, like, change the
- 30:25Speaker 3: way the world works within the... I mean, the comics
- 30:28Speaker 3: were set in a time that is so long ago now,
- 30:30Speaker 3: especially once you get technology thrown into it, that I'm like,
- 30:34Speaker 3: most of the basics don't work anymore. So you have
- 30:36Speaker 3: to readjust things a little. It was interesting how much
- 30:39Speaker 3: he wasn't a main character. It's an extended cameo, essentially.
- 30:43Speaker 3: It's great to have him back, but he didn't factor
- 30:46Speaker 3: in much. He was just sort of there.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Well, I think this one kind of... This was definitely
- 30:52Speaker 1: a very... transformative movie for Peter. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
- 30:58Speaker 3: I mean.
- 30:59Speaker 1: So many things happened.
- 31:00Speaker 3: Way more than I expected.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't think people realized how big the stakes
- 31:05Speaker 1: were going to be in this movie. You kind of
- 31:06Speaker 1: approach it like, okay, they're going to bring in some
- 31:08Speaker 1: other dudes there. But no, it's like, no, this is
- 31:10Speaker 1: some life-changing stuff.
- 31:12Speaker 3: And even... I think even after I was done, it's
- 31:15Speaker 3: only like in the last day or so of getting
- 31:17Speaker 3: ready to do this that I kept digging back into
- 31:21Speaker 3: more stuff. And the more... I sort of researched it
- 31:25Speaker 3: and got other questions and heard some other perspectives. And
- 31:28Speaker 3: I'm just like, this is way bigger than even I
- 31:31Speaker 3: realized coming out of the movie. And then like even
- 31:34Speaker 3: bigger than I think anybody knew heading into this movie.
- 31:38Speaker 3: Like it's, it's a very different ending point than I
- 31:41Speaker 3: think anybody expected to get to.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, we're kind of, I'll get to my point
- 31:45Speaker 1: later on.
- 31:46Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely.
- 31:47Speaker 1: We can save the end for the end, but no,
- 31:50Speaker 1: this was definitely kind of almost like a Spider-Man origin
- 31:52Speaker 1: in reverse. With the Homecoming film, we skip past getting bit.
- 32:00Speaker 1: He was already in high school. He was already Spider-Man.
- 32:03Speaker 1: And we assumed Uncle Ben was already dead.
- 32:06Speaker 3: Which I still, going into this, wasn't sure, like, was
- 32:09Speaker 3: there an Uncle Ben?
- 32:10Speaker 1: Nope.
- 32:11Speaker 3: We never really answered that, and they just sort of
- 32:13Speaker 3: left it up to you to probably assume that.
- 32:15Speaker 1: And this film answers very well that no, there was
- 32:18Speaker 1: an Uncle Ben, but his big moment was not missed.
- 32:20Speaker 3: It's there.
- 32:21Speaker 1: It was not missed.
- 32:22Speaker 3: We'll get to that in a moment. Yeah, we can
- 32:24Speaker 3: get back to that. I will ask you the question that,
- 32:29Speaker 3: leaving the last movie, I had the same issue with.
- 32:32Speaker 3: And even more so now that seeing what they ended
- 32:36Speaker 3: up doing with this third movie. So this may be
- 32:38Speaker 3: more of a question for Feige or the powers that
- 32:41Speaker 3: be there, but I'm like, why? If you know where
- 32:45Speaker 3: you're going in this movie, at least in the grand scheme,
- 32:47Speaker 3: specifics definitely changed in this movie in the last year
- 32:50Speaker 3: and a half or whatever, but. They knew essentially where
- 32:54Speaker 3: they were going down the road. Why bother doing a
- 32:56Speaker 3: movie where the parallel universes, alternate versions of people is there?
- 33:02Speaker 3: The entire plot of a movie is a fake out.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Why bother?
- 33:07Speaker 3: Like if you're going to bring that in as the
- 33:09Speaker 3: main thing in our last movie, we only had three
- 33:12Speaker 3: Spider-Man movies. The whole second push of that second movie
- 33:16Speaker 3: is a fake out scam. So like, if you're going
- 33:18Speaker 3: to go there anyway, why not just go there? Like,
- 33:21Speaker 3: what is the point of this like stumbling block of like, Hey,
- 33:25Speaker 3: we got alternate universe.
- 33:26Speaker 1: Oh no, wait. Okay.
- 33:27Speaker 3: We do have alternate universes. Why the fake out? Why
- 33:31Speaker 3: bother with that? Really? Not that I don't like a
- 33:33Speaker 3: lot of things about the second movie, but, Just, that's
- 33:36Speaker 3: a weird move.
- 33:37Speaker 1: I think that was kind of the teaser to kind
- 33:39Speaker 1: of get us prepped. I suppose. Just to throw the
- 33:42Speaker 1: idea out there. To throw the idea that there is
- 33:44Speaker 1: a multiverse out there. Because what happened after Far From
- 33:48Speaker 1: Home is we got hit three times in the face
- 33:54Speaker 1: with the multiverse. Yep. You know, you get what if.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Then what am I trying to think? I'm I'm forgetting something,
- 34:05Speaker 1: but there was another multiversal thing we dealt with after
- 34:07Speaker 1: Far From Home, and then, of course, with Spider-Man.
- 34:09Speaker 3: Yeah. That was almost like during my watching of it.
- 34:14Speaker 1: Oh, Loki.
- 34:15Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Loki was the multiversal.
- 34:17Speaker 3: They definitely are playing fast and loose and creating rules
- 34:20Speaker 3: with Loki that now can be a loophole to fix
- 34:23Speaker 3: any plot issues in anything ever, really.
- 34:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 34:26Speaker 3: So much so that by the end, I didn't even
- 34:29Speaker 3: care about the Loki series. I loved aspects of it,
- 34:32Speaker 3: but I was just like, do you guys even know
- 34:34Speaker 3: where you're going with this? I'm not sure you do.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Being an old Marvel fan, I love the heady stuff.
- 34:41Speaker 1: The super science, the crazy far out concepts, multiversal, other dimensions.
- 34:47Speaker 3: They just drug that one out so long. I'm just like,
- 34:50Speaker 3: if they would have wrapped up the... insanity of what
- 34:53Speaker 3: they were doing in the span of about two episodes
- 34:56Speaker 3: but it was essentially the whole run of the series
- 34:58Speaker 3: that i'm like midway and i'm like i don't even
- 35:00Speaker 3: care where you're going anymore like just show me loki
- 35:03Speaker 3: gator that's all.
- 35:04Speaker 1: But see that's kind of the thing is that's where
- 35:06Speaker 1: we are going you know it is now they started
- 35:08Speaker 1: setting up and well i mean there's been a few
- 35:11Speaker 1: phases but basically in the kind of the first chunk
- 35:14Speaker 1: of the marvel universe history the the you know Iron
- 35:17Speaker 1: Man leading up to Endgame.
- 35:19Speaker 3: Yeah, the establishing of everything.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Yeah, we're getting everything established. Then we start bringing in
- 35:23Speaker 1: the Infinity Stones one by one. Realizing, okay, these things
- 35:26Speaker 1: are big. There's some stuff kind of there. All right. Well,
- 35:30Speaker 1: our next thing, we're getting into the multiverse. We're getting
- 35:33Speaker 1: into alternate universes and possibilities. Well, there's somebody who's going
- 35:36Speaker 1: to be kind of either manipulating all this, in control
- 35:39Speaker 1: of all this, trying to change things. And that's where
- 35:43Speaker 1: we're getting our next big guy. Because we got a
- 35:46Speaker 1: little glimpse of him in Loki. That wasn't the dude
- 35:49Speaker 1: we got to worry about. That's the dude at the
- 35:50Speaker 1: end of the road. The dude about the middle of
- 35:53Speaker 1: the road is the one we really got to worry about.
- 35:55Speaker 1: That's Kang. Yeah, I knew he was coming. He's coming, folks,
- 36:00Speaker 1: and put your boots on. This one's going to be fun.
- 36:04Speaker 3: So, yeah, that was my main issue with that one,
- 36:08Speaker 3: just knowing that that's where we're going. The other thing
- 36:10Speaker 3: that in the middle of this movie was almost like
- 36:13Speaker 3: a stumbling block was how good into the spider verse
- 36:16Speaker 3: was like, I really enjoyed that. So like, It's hard
- 36:20Speaker 3: to not compare the two. And then you want to
- 36:22Speaker 3: be like, well, why are we getting these characters and
- 36:25Speaker 3: not these characters? Why are we getting this when we
- 36:27Speaker 3: had this going on and into the Spider-Verse? But we
- 36:29Speaker 3: don't really get that aspect here. So, I mean, it's
- 36:32Speaker 3: kind of best to not do that, but it's hard
- 36:34Speaker 3: not to do that.
- 36:35Speaker 1: Yeah, as for somebody on the outside, I can definitely
- 36:37Speaker 1: see the confusion on that. But basically, it's a matter
- 36:39Speaker 1: of shared custody, once again.
- 36:41Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Well, I mean, I think just more of, like, storytelling.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Like, I think.
- 36:45Speaker 3: because we get, you know, such a good representation of
- 36:48Speaker 3: what's going on and into the spider verse. And within
- 36:51Speaker 3: one movie, they do the whole, like introducing the idea,
- 36:54Speaker 3: kind of building the characters up, giving us a good
- 36:57Speaker 3: dynamic between them and the payoff in the span of
- 36:59Speaker 3: one movie. So that's kind of a feat all in
- 37:02Speaker 3: its own that that worked as well.
- 37:03Speaker 1: As it did.
- 37:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 37:04Speaker 1: And of course that's just completely a Sony thing. Yeah.
- 37:07Speaker 1: Now the real spanner in the works is this Morbius movie,
- 37:10Speaker 1: because I want to know where does this take place?
- 37:14Speaker 1: Is it, The Sony-verse? Is it the MCU? Is it
- 37:17Speaker 1: somewhere in between? Because they make references to Venom, which
- 37:22Speaker 1: Venom is Sony.
- 37:23Speaker 3: Sony, but now Sony is shoving him into the MCU,
- 37:28Speaker 3: kind of, because he's at the end of this movie,
- 37:30Speaker 3: which is still an MCU movie.
- 37:32Speaker 1: He is at the end of this movie to make
- 37:33Speaker 1: a delivery. Eddie Brock got sent back home. He's going
- 37:37Speaker 1: back to San Francisco to do his thing.
- 37:39Speaker 3: They're just muddying the waters is the problem.
- 37:41Speaker 1: Well, we needed a symbiote in the MCU. Mm-hmm. We
- 37:45Speaker 1: got one. Thank you very much, Eddie. You may go home.
- 37:48Speaker 1: You can go back.
- 37:49Speaker 3: To your movies that are kind of silly.
- 37:52Speaker 1: I don't have a lot of love for the Venom films.
- 37:54Speaker 3: I just haven't even wanted to get into them. Only
- 37:57Speaker 3: because I just see the trailer each time and I'm like,
- 38:01Speaker 3: in concept, again, I didn't read much of that. But
- 38:04Speaker 3: I remember when the character came out, he looked so amazing.
- 38:07Speaker 3: He comes off so creepy. Then watching it get turned
- 38:11Speaker 3: into like a slapstick movie or a sitcom jokes that
- 38:15Speaker 3: I'm just like, what are you doing with this character
- 38:18Speaker 3: that could be really cool? And instead, you're just making
- 38:21Speaker 3: him the butt of a joke. An entire feature length
- 38:25Speaker 3: butt of a joke.
- 38:25Speaker 1: That's kind of the problem, guys. Venom had a bit
- 38:29Speaker 1: of a journey. Started out as a villain. Full on, yes,
- 38:32Speaker 1: I'm a quarter mile, hate Spider-Man, blame him for all
- 38:35Speaker 1: my problems. Kind of villain. And then he gets the
- 38:38Speaker 1: suit because Peter casts it off, says this is evil,
- 38:41Speaker 1: I don't need this, you know, this alien trying to
- 38:43Speaker 1: kill me. And Eddie gets the suit and now suddenly, hey,
- 38:47Speaker 1: we got Venom. And then Venom eventually becomes kind of
- 38:51Speaker 1: like he starts off kind of like a vigilante, the
- 38:53Speaker 1: lethal protector sort of thing. And then now he's a
- 38:55Speaker 1: full-on hero. You know, he just.
- 38:58Speaker 3: Is a weird move to make from... That's a big
- 39:01Speaker 3: span there.
- 39:02Speaker 1: Again, it's popularity contest. Deadpool was a, was a Merc
- 39:07Speaker 1: of the Week. Yeah. And then he took off and
- 39:09Speaker 1: then suddenly now everything's Deadpool.
- 39:11Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 39:11Speaker 1: You know, Harley Quinn was on a TV show and
- 39:14Speaker 1: then she was so popular she think it put her
- 39:16Speaker 1: in the comics.
- 39:17Speaker 3: Wasn't even in the comics.
- 39:19Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 39:19Speaker 3: It was a side character made up for an animated
- 39:21Speaker 3: show that at the time really wasn't that big of
- 39:24Speaker 3: a deal. Like it became huge as far as I'm concerned. But.
- 39:28Speaker 1: So a hit character is a hit character.
- 39:29Speaker 3: Yeah. you never know where they're gonna come from but
- 39:32Speaker 3: yeah i just feel like it's mishandled on the.
- 39:34Speaker 1: Yeah i would have rather have seen the hero's journey
- 39:36Speaker 1: not the lovable loser you know sort of thing yeah i.
- 39:40Speaker 3: Would just like to see him as the villain and
- 39:42Speaker 3: like have a good version of that before we even
- 39:45Speaker 3: decide if we're going to give him another, you know,
- 39:48Speaker 3: couple of movies to redeem himself and become a hero
- 39:51Speaker 3: or whatever. But we never even got like a good
- 39:53Speaker 3: villain version of him. I guess you can count Spider-Man
- 39:57Speaker 3: three if you want, but yeah, It was a little
- 40:00Speaker 3: mishandled there.
- 40:01Speaker 1: I'm really glad that the villain that we represented that
- 40:04Speaker 1: movie was Sandman.
- 40:06Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Thank you very much. I guess.
- 40:09Speaker 3: Which is still.
- 40:09Speaker 1: I don't know. There's some weird things. Well, Thomas Hayden
- 40:11Speaker 1: Church was one of the better things about that movie.
- 40:15Speaker 1: And so having him reprise his role, I thought was
- 40:17Speaker 1: very nice.
- 40:18Speaker 3: That was one of those that I was like, because
- 40:21Speaker 3: he's Sand pretty much the whole time, I was like,
- 40:23Speaker 3: did they get him? And then he's talking. I'm like, no,
- 40:25Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure they did get him to come back
- 40:26Speaker 3: and do voice. Yeah.
- 40:27Speaker 1: Well, the thing is, too, they've nailed that character so well, too,
- 40:30Speaker 1: because he was always never a villain. Yeah, he's a
- 40:34Speaker 1: reluctant villain.
- 40:35Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean.
- 40:35Speaker 3: Like, he's only doing what he has to do for
- 40:37Speaker 3: his own purposes.
- 40:38Speaker 1: He doesn't want to work at Walmart.
- 40:40Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 40:40Speaker 1: You know, so he's got to rob some stuff to
- 40:41Speaker 1: provide for his family, but then his family.
- 40:44Speaker 3: Everything is about his family.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:45Speaker 3: Like, he isn't evil for the sake of evil.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Right.
- 40:47Speaker 3: He's just doing what he has to do. Even in
- 40:49Speaker 3: this one, he's doing what he has to do to
- 40:51Speaker 3: get back to his kid. You know, it's like that's
- 40:53Speaker 3: his only driving force, really.
- 40:55Speaker 1: So. Mm-hmm. So, yeah, I've always appreciated how they handled
- 40:59Speaker 1: his character. I mean, they handled all the villains, with
- 41:03Speaker 1: the exception of Venom. And, well, I mean, even Harry Osborn.
- 41:07Speaker 1: In the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films, the handling of Harry
- 41:10Speaker 1: Osborn was well done. The Dane DeHaan Harry Osborn, we
- 41:12Speaker 1: won't talk about. Yeah, yeah. That was cheap.
- 41:15Speaker 3: I feel like that, and I guess we have to
- 41:18Speaker 3: get into this. I didn't love... any of the Garfield stuff,
- 41:22Speaker 3: there's aspects of it that are good.
- 41:24Speaker 5: Right.
- 41:24Speaker 3: But like of the two movies, like actually I just
- 41:27Speaker 3: got around to watching the second one in the last
- 41:29Speaker 3: year and a half or so. Cause I was just
- 41:31Speaker 3: so not thrilled with the first one. And going back,
- 41:35Speaker 3: I was just like, I don't, I don't love this guy.
- 41:38Speaker 3: It's funny how much he works in this movie. Cause
- 41:40Speaker 3: I'm like, I didn't love him as Peter Parker.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Right.
- 41:42Speaker 3: I didn't feel like it worked really with what they
- 41:44Speaker 3: were trying to do with that whole run and so
- 41:47Speaker 3: i think we get now to the point that andrew
- 41:49Speaker 3: garfield is a good actor yeah and he's got better
- 41:52Speaker 3: material even in the handful of scenes he has here
- 41:54Speaker 3: he comes through way better than i think he did
- 41:57Speaker 3: in two movies that they gave him so i always.
- 42:00Speaker 1: Gave him a little more credit because my biggest gripe
- 42:03Speaker 1: with toby mcguire movies is that the biggest aspect of
- 42:06Speaker 1: spider-man they took out was the humor Yeah. Basically, you're
- 42:11Speaker 1: a kid and you've got to deal with these superpowers
- 42:14Speaker 1: and fighting bad guys and all this kind of shit.
- 42:16Speaker 1: And so his defense mechanism is to make jokes and
- 42:20Speaker 1: make cracks and constantly distracts them.
- 42:22Speaker 3: Definitely the comic and even those animated series were so
- 42:25Speaker 3: good at representing that. And it was not represented whatsoever
- 42:29Speaker 3: in the Tobey movie. Tobey comes through as the nerdy
- 42:32Speaker 3: Peter Parker. He definitely had that first movie great. But, like, yeah,
- 42:36Speaker 3: he didn't overcome anything with humor.
- 42:39Speaker 1: And they also kind of took away some of the
- 42:40Speaker 1: science of it as well. Like, they had the interaction
- 42:42Speaker 1: with Osborn. They had the interaction with Otto Octavius. But, like,
- 42:46Speaker 1: the biggest thing was, like, they took away his web
- 42:47Speaker 1: shooters and did the organic stuff.
- 42:50Speaker 3: I kind of liked that, actually.
- 42:51Speaker 1: But it has its place. Yeah, it's like... Basically, the
- 42:56Speaker 1: Tom Holland Spider-Man has established the best of all of them.
- 43:00Speaker 1: The balance of them. Of the science.
- 43:02Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 43:02Speaker 1: You know, the humor, the science, the character, whatever else. Like,
- 43:05Speaker 1: they got everything.
- 43:07Speaker 3: They've definitely made that where you really buy that he
- 43:11Speaker 3: is a super smart kid.
- 43:13Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 43:13Speaker 3: Toby came across as the dorky kid in high school
- 43:16Speaker 3: kind of thing, but I don't know that you bought it.
- 43:18Speaker 3: And same thing, Andrew Garfield was too cool anyway. His
- 43:22Speaker 3: version was a different version of Peter Parker, and I
- 43:25Speaker 3: didn't really buy him as the super smart. But they
- 43:28Speaker 3: really did a good job of making Tom Holland this super...
- 43:32Speaker 3: Dorky guy, but at the same time, you buy him
- 43:36Speaker 3: as the nerdy kid that is going to get a scholarship,
- 43:38Speaker 3: that is going to win all these prizes at school,
- 43:41Speaker 3: and he's not going to be cool. But at the
- 43:43Speaker 3: same time, that's what I was thinking. That's what's so
- 43:46Speaker 3: different about this movie. interpretation of peter that we've gotten
- 43:49Speaker 3: in this new mcu is that he's actually never alone
- 43:53Speaker 3: like he always had ned he you know very quickly
- 43:56Speaker 3: had mj like he always had had aunt may yeah
- 43:59Speaker 3: aunt may so i mean yeah he always had a
- 44:01Speaker 3: dynamic and from the get-go had tony stark like as
- 44:05Speaker 3: his mentor like.
- 44:06Speaker 1: He almost kind of came uncle ben.
- 44:08Speaker 3: Yeah i mean he pretty much definitely that first movie
- 44:11Speaker 3: like i still not that's one of the other things
- 44:13Speaker 3: i noticed with this one this is kind of the
- 44:15Speaker 3: first time it felt like it was him on his
- 44:18Speaker 3: own as Spider-Man.
- 44:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 44:20Speaker 3: Because even the last movie, Tony's dead, but the, the,
- 44:23Speaker 3: the specter, the artificial intelligence basically stepped in and took
- 44:28Speaker 3: over the place of everything. And he still had all
- 44:30Speaker 3: the tech of Tony and he still had all this.
- 44:32Speaker 3: I mean, like it still felt like Tony was there
- 44:35Speaker 3: as the ghost, you know, still running the movie and
- 44:38Speaker 3: taking some of the thunder away from, you know, Peter Parker.
- 44:40Speaker 3: But like this movie, even in the beginning, he feels
- 44:43Speaker 3: way more alone from that aspect that, you know, he's,
- 44:46Speaker 3: Other than Doctor Strange, we don't have Avengers that he's
- 44:48Speaker 3: dealing with. There is no Tony Stark.
- 44:50Speaker 1: He's almost dealing with this thing alone.
- 44:52Speaker 3: The most we've got is Happy. He's there for comic relief.
- 44:56Speaker 3: He doesn't really help most of the time. He's just
- 44:58Speaker 3: there to be fun because we like Happy.
- 45:00Speaker 1: He helped in the way that he had the machine
- 45:04Speaker 1: in his place there.
- 45:06Speaker 3: Which did not help at all when you're trying to
- 45:07Speaker 3: build your Death Star, damn it. That was the real
- 45:11Speaker 3: tragedy of this movie. It was the busting of the
- 45:13Speaker 3: Death Star again.
- 45:14Speaker 1: Oh, no. I love the arm in Tony's shop. You know,
- 45:19Speaker 1: the crane arm is still there. Yeah, it's still.
- 45:22Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, everybody has these little pieces of Tony
- 45:24Speaker 3: that he's still in the... Again, I'm just sort of
- 45:27Speaker 3: weaving this universe together. Like, even as several movies now
- 45:32Speaker 3: that we've lost him, but.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Like he's already.
- 45:35Speaker 3: He's not the main focus anymore, but he's still sort
- 45:38Speaker 3: of woven into the tapestry that is the MCU. Like,
- 45:41Speaker 3: you're never really going to be away from him.
- 45:44Speaker 1: Absolutely. But yeah, like I said, this is very kind
- 45:48Speaker 1: of like transformative. There's several events that happen in this
- 45:51Speaker 1: thing that I'm really excited to see where we're going
- 45:54Speaker 1: to go next with Peter.
- 45:55Speaker 3: That's a big question that I'm not even sure they've
- 45:57Speaker 3: figured out. They'll, I'm sure, pretend like they have. But
- 46:00Speaker 3: I don't think.
- 46:01Speaker 1: I've heard a plan in place.
- 46:02Speaker 3: I don't think they knew, again, because the script changed
- 46:06Speaker 3: so much in this last shooting... They're like, I don't
- 46:09Speaker 3: think they, they may have known a long way down
- 46:12Speaker 3: the road where they were going, but right. Initially, I
- 46:14Speaker 3: don't think they were going to end up here. I
- 46:16Speaker 3: don't think they knew they were going to end up
- 46:17Speaker 3: here at the end of this movie. Even, you know,
- 46:19Speaker 3: with the end of the last movie, like, I think
- 46:21Speaker 3: that changed and got thrown in their lap so much
- 46:23Speaker 3: that they, I maybe came up with a better story
- 46:27Speaker 3: and like have a new and way more interesting place
- 46:30Speaker 3: that we have Peter Parker in by the end of
- 46:31Speaker 3: this movie. So yeah.
- 46:33Speaker 1: Now, whether all of these plans were in place before
- 46:36Speaker 1: the movie came out, or these are all of read,
- 46:39Speaker 1: a result of its success, but There were two camps
- 46:42Speaker 1: in the Tom Holland thing, whatever you believe. One was,
- 46:45Speaker 1: this is his last Spider-Man film, he's done. Because in
- 46:48Speaker 1: a previous interview, I don't want to play Spider-Man until
- 46:50Speaker 1: I'm 30. Yeah, but you love those checks though, don't you, buddy?
- 46:53Speaker 3: I mean.
- 46:54Speaker 1: You love the worldwide fame and everybody loving you, right?
- 46:56Speaker 3: And even then, I've seen, just doing press for this movie,
- 46:59Speaker 3: him coming out and being like, hey, this changed my life,
- 47:02Speaker 3: I really appreciate you. That's why he made the call
- 47:05Speaker 3: to try to piece this movie back together when it
- 47:08Speaker 3: was falling apart. It's like, you guys, you know... made
- 47:11Speaker 3: me who I am. It's like, I don't want to
- 47:13Speaker 3: leave it like this. I want to finish this movie.
- 47:16Speaker 3: So I think he does appreciate what it's done for him.
- 47:19Speaker 3: But at the same time, I'm sure those checks are
- 47:22Speaker 3: not small at this point.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Especially this last one.
- 47:25Speaker 3: I feel like he has a little more power to
- 47:28Speaker 3: play with because of that. But if you go off
- 47:30Speaker 3: and leave Spider-Man, you kind of lose that leverage too.
- 47:33Speaker 1: And then the other camp and the Disney Plus Day
- 47:37Speaker 1: announcement was in, I guess, November. kind of confirmed this
- 47:41Speaker 1: for us is that there is an animated series coming
- 47:44Speaker 1: called Spider-Man Freshman Year.
- 47:45Speaker 5: Yep.
- 47:46Speaker 1: And this is going to kind of fill in the
- 47:47Speaker 1: gaps around the movies. Now, we don't know if this
- 47:50Speaker 1: is Freshman Year High School or Freshman Year College.
- 47:53Speaker 3: It could go either way.
- 47:55Speaker 1: It could go either way because... The plan is that
- 47:58Speaker 1: there are three more movies in play that will feature
- 48:02Speaker 1: Tom Holland. And the Spider-Man Freshman Year series will sort
- 48:07Speaker 1: of fill in the gaps between those films with multiple seasons. See,
- 48:11Speaker 1: that's what I.
- 48:12Speaker 3: Thought at the end of this, coming off of, again,
- 48:15Speaker 3: to go back to my comment on Hawkeye. I think,
- 48:19Speaker 3: and I didn't used to factor this in, but even
- 48:22Speaker 3: when we very first started, I remember back with the...
- 48:25Speaker 3: First kind of kicking off with getting into the Avengers,
- 48:29Speaker 3: the second one.
- 48:30Speaker 1: Ultron.
- 48:31Speaker 3: Ultron, I felt like was a big story that you
- 48:34Speaker 3: could have done. That's when they first started doing those
- 48:37Speaker 3: Netflix series. I was like, you really could have broken
- 48:39Speaker 3: that story up into a bigger six-hour, eight-hour story and
- 48:44Speaker 3: kind of tackled that. I still, I've revisited the movie.
- 48:47Speaker 3: I do like it for what it is, but- I
- 48:50Speaker 3: think now, looking at this, I don't think they will
- 48:53Speaker 3: because Spider-Man is such a huge property. But I'm like,
- 48:55Speaker 3: after this movie, and again, we can get to the
- 48:58Speaker 3: end later, but I think it would be really interesting
- 49:00Speaker 3: to then, before you get to another movie or trilogy
- 49:03Speaker 3: or whatever, do a six-episode run similar to Hawkeye, where
- 49:08Speaker 3: it's back to him being friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Low-stakes adventures
- 49:12Speaker 3: and just kind of spending time with the Tom Holland
- 49:16Speaker 3: version of Spider-Man, but not having to be a huge
- 49:19Speaker 3: world-ending event.
- 49:20Speaker 1: Like i would like to see that.
- 49:22Speaker 3: I don't think that's where they're going just because they
- 49:24Speaker 3: make too much money making the big features but it
- 49:27Speaker 3: would be nice if they did that i guess that's
- 49:29Speaker 3: more or less what the animated thing is going to be.
- 49:31Speaker 1: I got a feeling so yeah yeah of course and
- 49:33Speaker 1: then set up you know maybe future relationships or villains
- 49:35Speaker 1: later on down the line and the you know the
- 49:37Speaker 1: The real, you know, the live action stuff. The next movie, yeah.
- 49:40Speaker 1: Because that's kind of what we've seen. Like, if you've
- 49:43Speaker 1: watched the What If series, like, there was a few
- 49:45Speaker 1: episodes where some popular characters or popular concepts were involved.
- 49:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 49:50Speaker 1: And now we know that these are going to be
- 49:52Speaker 1: some actual, we're going to see some, like, what's her,
- 49:58Speaker 1: played Agent Carter. Oh, yeah. She's got herself a second
- 50:03Speaker 1: job now as Captain Carter.
- 50:06Speaker 3: I enjoyed that one. There was a lot of those.
- 50:07Speaker 3: There were a couple that I was like, eh, I
- 50:09Speaker 3: wasn't as into those. But there were several along the
- 50:12Speaker 3: way that I'm like, these are kind of my favorite
- 50:14Speaker 3: things I've seen in the MCU. Those little stories were
- 50:17Speaker 3: so cool. And again, had the freedom to be so
- 50:21Speaker 3: different that it really gave you something to sort of
- 50:25Speaker 3: enjoy and latch on to.
- 50:26Speaker 1: That's what's fun. That was always fun about the What
- 50:27Speaker 1: If comics. It was a sandbox where like, okay, we
- 50:31Speaker 1: can take this story and we know the real version.
- 50:33Speaker 1: Everything turned out great. What if it didn't? You know,
- 50:36Speaker 1: what if maybe this one choice changed everything? And the
- 50:40Speaker 1: best comics of those series were always, like the Doctor
- 50:43Speaker 1: Strange episode, the one where basically everybody's dead, the world
- 50:47Speaker 1: has ended, and the dude who caused it all is
- 50:49Speaker 1: sitting there at the end of the world going, well, shit.
- 50:53Speaker 1: I guess it's all my fault, huh? Yep, click, you're dead.
- 50:56Speaker 1: So those were always the best issues.
- 50:59Speaker 3: See, I just like the hugeness of those. Like, as
- 51:02Speaker 3: much as I enjoy the neighborhood stories, like... Not that
- 51:06Speaker 3: we need anything else with zombies, but damn, I love
- 51:08Speaker 3: that zombie episode. Like it was just so much fun
- 51:11Speaker 3: to take that because we've seen the end of the
- 51:13Speaker 3: world zombie scenario so many times, but then insert these
- 51:16Speaker 3: characters that we know and love into it. And then
- 51:19Speaker 3: we're killing off half of them real quick. So I'm
- 51:21Speaker 3: just like, it's so interesting to see that. And then
- 51:25Speaker 3: by the big two finale, when they're like, everything is
- 51:28Speaker 3: thrown out of whack and Fighting each other. And so, yeah,
- 51:31Speaker 3: there was... I just kind of like the huge, weird
- 51:34Speaker 3: version of that. Because, again, I think it got more
- 51:38Speaker 3: bogged down with, like, what they were doing at Loki.
- 51:40Speaker 3: I think those were so tight that you got big,
- 51:43Speaker 3: crazy questions addressed. And then wrapped up pretty quickly where
- 51:47Speaker 3: they sort of drug it out on Loki.
- 51:48Speaker 1: I think with Loki, the second season was going to
- 51:51Speaker 1: be much more tight. Because... Yeah, what you said earlier, like,
- 51:55Speaker 1: there was a lot of rules they had to establish.
- 51:57Speaker 1: A lot of, like, you know, here's what you know,
- 52:00Speaker 1: here's what it is. Like, you thought the Infinity Stones were, like,
- 52:03Speaker 1: the big end. No, these guys used them as paperweights
- 52:05Speaker 1: over here. Yeah, and that's what I felt. It's not
- 52:07Speaker 1: a significant thing.
- 52:09Speaker 3: Both of those. I think What If did that, and
- 52:11Speaker 3: Loki did that, of, like... this that you had as
- 52:14Speaker 3: your big you know end thing you're mcguffin yeah it's
- 52:17Speaker 3: it's no big deal like it's this happens all the
- 52:20Speaker 3: time there's we deal with it all the time there's
- 52:22Speaker 3: worse things there's worse things coming so don't you worry
- 52:24Speaker 3: so yeah i think it really does sort of like
- 52:27Speaker 3: lessen that which is part of what i think we
- 52:29Speaker 3: were coming off of with that well again a build-up
- 52:33Speaker 3: of 10 years leading up to endgame and like a
- 52:36Speaker 3: villain as big as and impressive as what thanos became
- 52:40Speaker 3: like where do you go from there i think that's
- 52:43Speaker 3: what we were doing it like that first spider-man after
- 52:45Speaker 3: the snap i'm just like how do you even tell
- 52:48Speaker 3: a story after this and like where do you go
- 52:51Speaker 3: so we've kind of baby steps with each one of
- 52:54Speaker 3: these of like well just focus on the new captain
- 52:56Speaker 3: america for a while and here's this new spider-man so
- 52:59Speaker 3: like it really is just sort of getting a footing
- 53:03Speaker 3: again of like where do you.
- 53:04Speaker 1: Go you gotta re-establish your new heroes.
- 53:06Speaker 3: Yeah how do you Find a threat that can even
- 53:09Speaker 3: come close to what we just spent 10 years, you know,
- 53:12Speaker 3: building up to. So, yeah, they can do it, but
- 53:15Speaker 3: I do feel like that's still a big battle to
- 53:18Speaker 3: fight against.
- 53:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I do appreciate that. You know, we're
- 53:21Speaker 1: getting all these, you know, we're getting some new faces
- 53:23Speaker 1: or we're getting some people with kind of changing in
- 53:26Speaker 1: jobs or personas, you know, a la, you know, Falcon
- 53:28Speaker 1: and Captain America. Yeah. Yes, we're seeing a lot of that. But, yeah,
- 53:31Speaker 1: what we're leading up to, I mean... Kang is such
- 53:35Speaker 1: a fun villain because it's a guy that basically time
- 53:37Speaker 1: means nothing to him. He's figured out the secrets. So
- 53:42Speaker 1: he is a conqueror. So it's Alexander the Great with
- 53:45Speaker 1: a time machine.
- 53:47Speaker 3: This seems dangerous. I don't think we should do this
- 53:49Speaker 3: at all.
- 53:51Speaker 1: It's like if there's something he doesn't like in a
- 53:52Speaker 1: particular time era, he wants to change it, he'll do it.
- 53:56Speaker 1: And no one can stop him.
- 53:58Speaker 3: Time travel is dangerous. This is what I've realized from
- 54:02Speaker 3: watching a lot of ridiculous sci-fi movies.
- 54:04Speaker 1: Dangerous. And what kind of guy is it that in
- 54:08Speaker 1: his early career that we'll see him in probably the
- 54:11Speaker 1: second season of Loki, we'll see him in the next
- 54:14Speaker 1: Ant-Man film coming out next year. This is the younger Kang. Yeah.
- 54:17Speaker 1: The old Kang that we saw at the end of
- 54:19Speaker 1: season one of Loki, who they wouldn't even call him in.
- 54:22Speaker 1: They call him the guy and the man at the
- 54:23Speaker 1: end of time because that's who he is at that point.
- 54:26Speaker 1: Here's a guy who's gone so far down the line,
- 54:29Speaker 1: seen so much stuff, done so many things, that he
- 54:31Speaker 1: is so sick of his younger self.
- 54:35Speaker 3: I mean, you would have to be at some point.
- 54:38Speaker 3: If you had that much power, at some point you're
- 54:40Speaker 3: just going to be nothing but bored. If you can
- 54:43Speaker 3: do anything, what's the point?
- 54:44Speaker 1: Yeah, you are your own worst villain, and you can
- 54:48Speaker 1: literally face off with a younger version of that. It's like...
- 54:53Speaker 1: Not even on strong acid could you handle this shit.
- 54:57Speaker 3: It gets very trippy once we get to that part
- 55:00Speaker 3: of it.
- 55:01Speaker 1: So to kind of give us a little bit more
- 55:04Speaker 1: of a taste of the multiverse. Because the Doctor Strange
- 55:07Speaker 1: film was going to just slam the door wide open. Oh, yeah.
- 55:11Speaker 1: That's why it's called Multiverse of Madness. We got a
- 55:14Speaker 1: little hint of that at the end of the Spider-Man credits.
- 55:18Speaker 1: So if you were confused by what the big tentacle
- 55:21Speaker 1: thing is that he's fighting, that you saw a glimpse of,
- 55:23Speaker 1: and also why there's an evil Doctor Strange, I refer
- 55:26Speaker 1: you back to What If.
- 55:27Speaker 3: I do like that we also get Wanda back in,
- 55:30Speaker 3: because I kind of love her anyway. Yep. And it
- 55:33Speaker 3: is interesting that now, like, I don't know. Again, Doctor Strange,
- 55:37Speaker 3: I didn't... Again, he almost has too much power as
- 55:41Speaker 3: the entity to be able to do everything he does.
- 55:43Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 55:44Speaker 3: I kind of like more of the grounded characters, so
- 55:46Speaker 3: that one I was like, eh, it's alright, but I
- 55:48Speaker 3: didn't love that one. It is interesting to see him
- 55:50Speaker 3: get knocked down several pegs, because in these last several versions,
- 55:54Speaker 3: now we see he's not Sorcerer Supreme anymore, and in WandaVision,
- 55:59Speaker 3: it's kind of noted that he's not as powerful as
- 56:02Speaker 3: she is, really, so like, he's... He's getting taken now.
- 56:05Speaker 3: He doesn't even have the time stone. So he's been
- 56:07Speaker 3: knocked down several pegs that you're just like, calm down.
- 56:10Speaker 3: Go do your birthday parties because you're not near as
- 56:13Speaker 3: big a deal as you might have thought you were.
- 56:14Speaker 1: Well, see this thing too. Everybody was kind of worried
- 56:17Speaker 1: at the end of WandaVision. Like, oh, she pops up
- 56:19Speaker 1: again in Doctor Strange. She's going to be the villain. No, no, no.
- 56:22Speaker 3: You never know.
- 56:24Speaker 1: Well, basically from the look of that trailer, it's like,
- 56:26Speaker 1: you know what? It looks like he needs her more
- 56:28Speaker 1: than anything. Yeah. But see the thing is too, it's like,
- 56:32Speaker 1: She's not even magic anymore. Wanda's origin has always been
- 56:37Speaker 1: complicated in the comics. It's changed numerous times where it's
- 56:40Speaker 1: like she's magic, she's not magic, she's mutant, she's not mutant,
- 56:42Speaker 1: whatever else. She is basically kind of something beyond that.
- 56:47Speaker 1: So she is a direct connection to this whole multiversal stuff.
- 56:50Speaker 1: So it's literally like we're going to the expert on
- 56:54Speaker 1: this in Wanda and she's only a recent expert.
- 56:58Speaker 3: She's still figuring it out. That was the whole WandaVision
- 57:01Speaker 3: is her... almost in denial of what she can do,
- 57:04Speaker 3: and yet now she has so much power that it's like, okay,
- 57:07Speaker 3: what do you do with all this power? Go isolate yourself, obviously, because.
- 57:12Speaker 1: Well, here's the trip, too, if you're not remembering, is
- 57:16Speaker 1: that at the end of WandaVision, she's out front enjoying
- 57:19Speaker 1: some coffee, looking at her scenery and her nice place,
- 57:21Speaker 1: while another version of herself, her astral form, is paging
- 57:25Speaker 1: through the dark hold and hearing voices of her children.
- 57:29Speaker 1: So while she is in the Doctor Strange trailer having
- 57:32Speaker 1: a nice conversation with Steven in her astral form, still
- 57:35Speaker 1: working on the Darkhold.
- 57:36Speaker 3: And that's what's going to be the undoing of everything
- 57:39Speaker 3: is her just trying to find the kids at this point.
- 57:42Speaker 1: That's going to be, it may be a problem, but
- 57:44Speaker 1: she also may see the folly in that because of
- 57:49Speaker 1: what Strange has been up to. So he may be
- 57:52Speaker 1: a good example of what not to do. And also
- 57:54Speaker 1: just that little glimpse of the evil Doctor Strange popping up.
- 57:58Speaker 1: It's further examples of what not to do.
- 58:01Speaker 3: I like Strange in conjunction with other... I love him, like,
- 58:04Speaker 3: in Infinity War. Like, he's so much fun to watch
- 58:07Speaker 3: with the other Avenger characters, specifically Tony Stark, because they
- 58:10Speaker 3: just butt heads. But, like, him on his own, I'm
- 58:13Speaker 3: not usually... So I'm hoping we get a little more of, like,
- 58:16Speaker 3: him and Wanda and, like, something else to... Because, yeah,
- 58:18Speaker 3: he's just... Again, that's why I kind of like him
- 58:21Speaker 3: getting knocked down a few times. I don't like him
- 58:24Speaker 3: when he's cocky, super powerful. I like him when he's
- 58:27Speaker 3: just sort of piecing it together. And does it make
- 58:30Speaker 3: great decisions? Based on this film. Is this a good idea?
- 58:34Speaker 3: Should I be doing this? Obviously no. Way to go,
- 58:37Speaker 3: Doctor Strange.
- 58:38Speaker 1: The thing is, too, it's like, why... He didn't have
- 58:41Speaker 1: a conversation with Peter before the spell started. Like, you know, okay.
- 58:45Speaker 1: I was like, are you sure? Everybody? You don't want anybody?
- 58:47Speaker 3: No, no.
- 58:48Speaker 1: You want these people.
- 58:48Speaker 3: Okay.
- 58:49Speaker 1: Let's make a list. Let's write this down. Let's make
- 58:51Speaker 1: a list.
- 58:51Speaker 3: Let's get some runes going here. How do we want
- 58:54Speaker 3: to establish everything? So again, I kind of blame him
- 58:57Speaker 3: for that too. And even the whole idea. I'm like, well,
- 59:00Speaker 3: Peter's a dumb kid. You're supposed to be the grown up.
- 59:02Speaker 3: You're supposed to be the wiser one that would be like, no, no, no, no. Look,
- 59:05Speaker 3: you don't want to mess with this. It's going to
- 59:07Speaker 3: screw everything up. And it does.
- 59:09Speaker 1: It does.
- 59:10Speaker 3: So, yeah, I blame a lot of this on Doctor Strange.
- 59:12Speaker 1: Yeah. And, of course, I had a lot of fun
- 59:17Speaker 1: just finding little Easter eggs.
- 59:19Speaker 3: I mean, I found some. There's a ton in this movie.
- 59:22Speaker 3: Maybe more than any other Marvel movie, and there's a
- 59:24Speaker 3: ton in all the Marvel movies.
- 59:25Speaker 1: There really is. What I appreciate, because... Since the passing
- 59:29Speaker 1: of Stan Lee, the Marvel films have tried more creative
- 59:33Speaker 1: ways of still incorporating Stan in the movies. Like the
- 59:36Speaker 1: first Venom movie, one or two, one of the Venom movies,
- 59:40Speaker 1: basically Stan is on the cover of a magazine in
- 59:42Speaker 1: the bodega that he goes into. And like, yet he
- 59:46Speaker 1: walks past it, the magazine starts to fall off, and
- 59:48Speaker 1: Venom puts the magazine back up right, and you see
- 59:51Speaker 1: Stan clearly on the cover. Yeah. And this film... It's
- 59:55Speaker 1: more than just the ghost of Stan Lee that's being praised.
- 59:57Speaker 1: It's literally everybody who had a hand in either writing
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: or drawing Stan Lee if you notice the graffiti throughout
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: the film.
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: They definitely put a nice little not-so-subtle version of all
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: these names in there.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: When I first noticed it, it was the first scene
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: where Peter and MJ and Ned are all on top
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: of the school building just hanging out trying to get
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: some peace. And right behind them is a very brightly
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: colored Ditko. I'm like, yes! I love this! And then
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: I noticed more and more. So I was like, yeah,
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: watch for the graffiti, folks.
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: Like I said, but I mean, it works because if
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: you're not that into it, it's just graffiti. And it's very,
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: I mean, they're in New York. So it doesn't seem
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: weird and out of place. But if you're an extra geek,
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: you're just like, ha ha, look right there.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: That's the beautiful thing about this film is that There
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: is a Easter egg for anybody. If you have seen
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: a spider something.
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: They even threw in a Miles Morales joke. Thank you,
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: Jamie Foxx. You know, it's like, oh, there's got to
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: be a black Spider-Man somewhere. Yes, we saw the trailer
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: for Ender's Spider-Verse 2. Yes, it's coming.
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: And we've already mentioned him in this MCU. So, like,
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: we know he's... Even in this version, there is a Miles.
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: Whether or not he's the one that becomes any kind
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: of Spider-Man is yet to be seen. But.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: I don't know when he's going to get there. The
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: fun thing is that there have been kind of this
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: slow progression of introducing all the members of the young Avengers. Yeah.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: I think there's literally maybe Miles is the main one
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: we haven't introduced. But, like, if they haven't been introduced yet,
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: they're coming. Like, we get another one in the Doctor
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: Strange film. The Ironheart series is one more. You know,
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: so it's like they're all showing up. You know, Falcon
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: and Winter Soldier, we got We're.
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: Putting all the pieces into play here.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Yeah, so we're getting the next generation of these kids.
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: So you've got to have... Miles, granted, wasn't an initial
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: member of the Young Avengers. He came in later on.
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: But for someone who's probably been the most beloved Marvel
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: character of the last 20 years, you've got to get
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: a live-action version of this kid.
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: That is, again, that is one of those that we're almost...
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: held to these movies that preceded it too much like
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: that's what i kept thinking and maybe as a comparison
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: to into the spider verse was i'm like they just
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: did whatever they wanted they pulled from wherever so i'm
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: like here i'm like well why don't we pull in
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: a villain we haven't seen before because there are any
- 1:02:25Speaker 3: number of universes any number of villains out there that
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: may be in that world they knew who peter parker
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: was why didn't they show up here Same thing, why
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: didn't we have another Spider-Man that we hadn't even seen before?
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: Or a Miles or anybody. If we just had, all
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: we had was the ones that we've seen in these
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: last five movies before this happened, and that's it. I
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: was like, that felt restrictive almost. Since we're opening up
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: to anything, essentially, why didn't we throw in a few
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: little wild cards to kind of make things interesting? But,
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: I mean, again, I appreciate what we got and the
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: fact that we got it is kind of amazing in
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: and of itself.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, if you would have told me Even
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: ten years ago. Like, hey, there's going to be a
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: Spider-Man movie where Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are going
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: to reprise their roles. And also Tom Holland will still
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: be Spider-Man.
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: Hell, even a year and a half ago, I probably
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: would have been, there's no way they can work that out.
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: I was like, even then I'd be like, that's a
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: legal nightmare. I don't think so. Especially as much as
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: Sony and Disney. From the beginning, we're just like, no.
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: Well, maybe. We're kind of broke.
- 1:03:24Speaker 3: Okay, but now we're doing okay again.
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: No, we want our stuff back. Yeah, and see, I
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: think Sony is finally getting... A little bit of something,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: because like I said, the Morbius film kind of said,
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: we're blurring the lines. It's like, okay, we're talking about Venom,
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: but then we're also talking, we see this poster on
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: a wall that says Spider-Man and the word murderer is
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: spread across it. We're seeing Michael Keaton as Vulture pop
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: up again. That's MCU.
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: That's really weird, because yeah, that's 100% part of this
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: series here, so that's weird.
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: Recent events, articles I've read that basically... The first one
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: popped up is that the long-forgotten Spider-Man 4 that was
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: going to have Tobey Maguire may see a return as
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: an animated film, with Tobey reprising the role. Interesting. He
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: was fine with just doing the smaller, let's just do
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: a little bit of the extended cameo. In this Spider-Man movie,
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: I don't want to do a whole movie by myself.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: But then they're like, what about an animated movie? And
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: they're like, okay, I can do a soundstage all day.
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: That's kind of the biggest....
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: Again, I.
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: had heard a little bit of rumblings here and there
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: that they were coming back so i assumed we were
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: at least going to get an appearance by both of
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: them i was surprised how much screen time they ended
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: up with like that was you know the whole second
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: half of this movie is the whole trio working together
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: so it's like it really was i assumed it would
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: be more of like a scene and then they show
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: up and they both do their thing and then most
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: of the movie is still spent but yeah i Working
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: in the villains, I know they built up enough that
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: we were probably going to get a good amount of
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: time with them.
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: Because we have to set them up as the bad
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: guys to defeat them at the end. But I really
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: assumed it would be just kind of a cameo and
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: that would be it. But we got a pretty sizable
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: role for both of those guys to come back in.
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: So.
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: impressive of them to come back especially like toby hadn't
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: even worked.
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: On screen in a while like yeah.
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: It has been a long lapse of him just doing
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: a movie so to be willing to come back and
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: do spider-man again is like whoever greased those wheels like
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: that is an impressive uh process that you got going
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: because well i like.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: The whole approach too is like the first of the
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: returns we see is andrew yeah so we're kind of
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: like oh okay yeah cool we're gonna do this guy
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: back and then like It just seems like a much
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: bigger moment when Toby steps through.
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Because that's the one, like, if you... It
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: is weird now. Andrew, all of a sudden, is, like, everywhere. Like,
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: for a while, he was like, oh, it's that Spider-Man
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: that didn't work out. And then suddenly, like, he's in...
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: He's got three movies out right now that are, like.
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: Tick, tick, boom.
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: Tick, tick, boom.
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: And the Tammy Faye.
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: And the Tammy Faye. And this one. I'm like, that's
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: a huge amount of stuff. For somebody that I feel
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: like wasn't a big player for a couple of years.
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: And it's interesting, two biopics and a superhero movie.
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a weird balance. But again, I think he's
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: coming out, you know, the artist is coming out, you know,
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: as more impressive and is maybe being celebrated. So I
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: think that was part of this too. Like, I guess
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: even for the people who didn't like those movies, it
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: was almost this redemption of like, well, we kind of
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: like him. It's a shame those movies weren't, as good
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: as I wanted them to be. And like, so I
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: think it is this like redeeming, not just that character,
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: but that actor in those movies and like all these
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: things that I'm like, well, there are parts of it
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: I liked, but so we do get this in a
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: much better version. And I think it kind of makes
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: him come out better in the process too. And Toby
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: was already beloved. So it's like all of this kind
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: of comes together by the end there.
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: And apparently now there's talk to Andrew Garfield, Spider-Man three
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: will get resurrected. It was only in concept, so they
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: knew that they were going to introduce MJ in that
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: one because they killed off Gwen. Because they killed off Gwen. Yeah,
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: which was fine because that's how it went in the comics.
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: Gwen was his first love. Actually, let's take that back.
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: Benny Brandt, who was the receptionist at J. Jonah Jameson's place,
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: the Daily Bugle, he went on a couple dates with her.
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: Then he met Gwen.
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: Which, didn't we just introduce her?
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: No, Betty Brant was back in. She's in the third one,
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: isn't she? She's in the third one, but also she
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: was back in the Tobey Maguire Spider-Mans. She was in
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: all of them. It was, oh, what's her face? I
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: can't remember. Elizabeth Banks.
- 1:07:35Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: Yep. Elizabeth Banks played her in the first three Tobeys.
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: I kind of remember that, yeah.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: Yeah, so he dated her first and then got to
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: Gwen and then MJ. And then, of course, MJ's let
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: me end up marrying her.
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: Again, if anything, and I kind of felt it in
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: the big finale more or less, but even for somebody
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: who didn't care about those movies or that version of
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: Peter Parker, when it came to MJ falling, I was like,
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: it really was. It was kind of a moving moment
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: there of him almost redeeming himself. Him making up for
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: the biggest thing that ruined his life, essentially. And we
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: had that... Alternate version of Peter Parker that like, you know,
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: our Peter Parker is pretty clean cut, you know, so
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: like this one crossed the line and goes a little
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: darker and we don't get much of that, but you
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: totally buy it for how messed up he was having
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: been instrumental in her death like that. Is enough to
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: push him over the edge.
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: Which we haven't seen that version of Peter on film yet.
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: No.
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: Because basically Gwen dies at the end of Spider-Man 2.
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: And we didn't get anything after that.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: And we didn't get anything after that. Yeah. So it's
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: like where is this angry Peter Parker?
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: I am. Yeah. I am interested. We need a what
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: if there. Just following.
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: Yeah we do. What happened when he. You know.
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: If he fully goes to the point of just killing villains.
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: If like he's that angry that like I don't care
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: about principles anymore.
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: Like.
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: I'm just here to right the wrong and get rid
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: of bad guys because they kill people I love like
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: that which we get to that point in this movie too.
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: Yeah we do in the comics previously like Peter has
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: the capacity to kill he's a lot I mean like
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: he's fought the Hulk on more than a Only the
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: time when he was temporarily imbued with cosmic universe power
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: that he basically manhandled the Hulk. But most of the time,
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: it's like a pretty good fight where he's able to
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: hold his own and survive, and the Hulk can feel
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: some of those hits when he really lays into them.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: So he does have a lot of strength that we
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: don't normally see. So when he makes that count, it's like, yeah,
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: I stopped pulling my punches and started just letting the
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: rage take over. I was like, I want to see this. Yeah.
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: That's kind of what I, especially like, again, I didn't
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: care about that version of him, but that might've changed it.
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: Like if we could have seen this new aspect come out,
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: I'm like, maybe I would have cared if they did
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: another movie with him where he just was fighting with
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: that more than any villain was like, whether or not
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: I care about my principles and being a good guy anymore. Like,
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: so yeah, that was way more interesting. And again, why
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: I think almost redeems Andrew Garfield in this movie.
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: It does.
- 1:10:12Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: Everything he brings to the character is more interesting than
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: what we saw in two full movies. He gets his
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: little redemption for the big moment of those two movies.
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: So it's like it does, even in that short span
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: of time, kind of make up for a lot of
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: the missteps in those two movies.
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: And it's kind of funny, too, because it's like, okay,
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: Tom Holland's, you know, Peter's like, he's definitely like, I
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: know what's going on here. This is my universe. I'm
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: kind of in charge of things. I've got a little
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: more science stuff and a little more awareness of what's
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: going on. Tobey Maguire, he's a little more experienced. He's
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: seen some stuff, not on this level, but he's seen
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: some stuff. Whereas Andrew is kind of almost like the
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: third wheel. Yeah. He kind of comes off that way.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: He comes off as the goofiest of the three.
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: Definitely, yeah.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: So I thought that was very interesting there, too.
- 1:10:55Speaker 3: That is what is interesting with Toby coming back, because
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: he is... And that's what's interesting, I guess, too. They don't...
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: The villains are more or less that same era, because
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: it's right before they died, more or less. So they're
- 1:11:08Speaker 3: still 20 years ago on some of them. Whereas we
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: pull in the Spider-Men... more or less present day kind
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: of in their timeline. Cause we get Toby now more
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: or less. So you do get a much, that's what
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: I think. He, he brings like this wisdom to his
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: version of Spider-Man now that he's like, it is like,
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: there are moments where it's like, literally he's saying, you know,
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: I've been there, I've been through this. I understand what
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: you're going through, but there's also just the way that
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: he carries this whole performance. That's like a different version
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: of the, again, he was still kind of a dorky
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: kid in those movies. Whereas like, Here, he carries himself
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: like a grown adult version of what Peter Parker would become.
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: And like he does pull off being the older brother
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: and the one that's been through a little more and
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: is experienced. The thing I do think is interesting, though,
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: as much as these other two have more experience. the
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: one thing they don't know how to do is work together.
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: And our, I do love that moment of like, well, look, I,
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: you know, that's the one thing that we've never had
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: a problem with, with our workers.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: He's always had a, again, even as a human before
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: the spider bite, he had Ned, he had a family,
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: like he was always working as a group or like
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: had friends and worked within the group, especially by the
- 1:12:25Speaker 3: time you get to the Avengers movies, like you see
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: him teamwork as part of the whole battle that everything
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: that goes on in those movies. So, that's like a
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: great aspect that like we get him going, okay, you
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: two aren't used to this. Let me show you how
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: this works.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: Like, so yeah, because I was with the Avengers.
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: Yeah. The one thing that, that our kid can bring
- 1:12:43Speaker 3: to the table is like, look, I've done this and
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: I know how to do it. And let me, you know,
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: clue you into this part while you guys may have
- 1:12:51Speaker 3: the experience. Like I've got the experience working as a team.
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: So that, that's kind of a fun little addition. And
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: I think kind of helps graduate our Peter into like
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: being ready to, Move on to bigger, you know, stakes
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: and being a different kind of superhero moving forward.
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: Well, and this is, you know, a kind of point
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: I made earlier is that this is a origin story
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: in reverse for the Tom Holland Spider-Man because Ned does
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: not exist in the Peter Parker universe. He is Miles
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: Morales' friend. Yeah. So Ned was brought in from a
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: completely different Spider-Man. Like, Ned does not exist in Peter
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: Parker's world. He's had friends, like Harry Osborn was kind
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: of his off-and-on friend, but then Harry had a lot
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: of issues being the son of Norman. So there were
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: some problems there. But yeah, Peter has always been the
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: loner and like, Even incorporating him into teams like the
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: Fantastic Four and the Avengers came way later, like in
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: the 80s, so like 20 years after he's been in print.
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: Now he's starting to team up with people, but we
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: automatically get Spider-Man teaming up with the Avengers in our
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: movies here. So we've got... Spider-Man, he's always had friends,
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: he's teamed up with people, and he's always had family
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: supporting him.
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: That's his entry point. He almost wasn't even a superhero yet,
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: and he already had a super suit made from Stark technology.
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: He went to space.
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: Yeah, he's in the middle of the greatest team ever,
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: and he goes to space, and he fights aliens. So yeah,
- 1:14:16Speaker 3: he's immediately just thrust into that world. We don't even
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: get the dorky high school version of him. That's sandwiched
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: in there, but, like, we don't get that first. Like,
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: it comes simultaneously with all the rest of this stuff.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: Yeah, and so that was the most interesting thing to
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: me was the surprise of Aunt May's passing. Yeah.
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: I mean, at the moment, I was like, yeah, I mean,
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: I guess we've had a good run with her. They're
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: about ready to, like, usually it's a big deal. We
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: have to kill off somebody. So, like, at the moment,
- 1:14:45Speaker 3: it didn't strike me as anything that different. I'm like, yeah,
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: that's usually what happens.
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: But as time went on, like, again, this is one
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: of those things that kind of hit me in the
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: last few days of like rethinking it. And then I
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: heard a whole different take on it that I think
- 1:14:59Speaker 3: even is an alternate to what you were saying in reverse.
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: This just today, like I heard a couple of different
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: takes on it. And the more I thought about it, this.
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: Makes me appreciate this movie and kind of the whole
- 1:15:13Speaker 3: trilogy in a different way.
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: Because leaving the movie, I was like, yeah, that was cool. Like,
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: I don't think I responded to it as much the
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: day of in the moment. I was just like, yeah,
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: it was cool. And they did a lot of good
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: stuff along the way. But in sort of looking at
- 1:15:26Speaker 3: the whole thing now, it is interesting that, like, basically...
- 1:15:32Speaker 3: we've never spent this much time with a Peter Parker
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: getting to this point.
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:15:36Speaker 3: Essentially this whole trilogy is his origin story.
- 1:15:39Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: That we've never had that. Like we assume that the
- 1:15:43Speaker 3: spider bite is, that's just how he got powers. But
- 1:15:45Speaker 3: like you get into this and like the whole learning
- 1:15:48Speaker 3: to be a superhero is has been this whole three
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: movies and side movies arc of like this kid not knowing.
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: Essentially six movies if you count Civil War.
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: Yeah, from Civil War on. He's like all of these
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: stories have led to who he's become because we've never
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: really had a version of Peter that was part of
- 1:16:08Speaker 3: the team and had friends and had... Now as we
- 1:16:11Speaker 3: leave this movie to jump ahead, he is the Peter
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: Parker we knew from other incarnations.
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: So it's like this.
- 1:16:18Speaker 3: Whole three movie span... was the origin story, not just
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: the powers, but the how he becomes who he is
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: and how he becomes the superhero he's going to be. Sure.
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: Even to the point that we didn't, we assumed he
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: had his Uncle Ben moment in the beginning.
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: We get his Uncle Ben moment in the end of
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: this movie. And that's sort of what leads him to
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: be the Peter Parker that we kind of know more
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: from the comics and previous movies. Like he now is
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: at that point. and we didn't really realize it, that's
- 1:16:47Speaker 3: what it was leading to. That was amazing the more
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: I thought about that. I've watched two movies and this
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: third one and never really pieced that together until now.
- 1:16:55Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, this whole thing is becoming the Spider-Man
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: that we know, essentially.
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: Yes, and it also makes the subtitles of each film
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: make much more sense. I was like, that's kind of stupid. Homecoming,
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: Far From Home, No Way Home. I was like, okay.
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: So it's like, basically, when Aunt May's death happened, And
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: then the end of the film, basically the whole, like,
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: the choice he makes to not reveal himself to MJ
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: and Ned and let them live their lives without knowing
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: who he is and to take the crappy apartment. He's
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: got his GED. He's using a police scanner. He's like
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: total old school.
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: You know, like, you know, it's like he's upgraded slightly
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: from the YouTube videos and the homemade costume. But is nonetheless. Barely. But,
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: you know, it's like, you know, that suit he wears
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: at the end is the most comic accurate suit in
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: any Spider-Man film probably since the 1970s TV series. Yeah.
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: It's like that is a beautiful Lee Ditko suit right there.
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: And that's like, again, we had, we didn't even notice,
- 1:17:59Speaker 3: I guess, because we were so immersed in the MCU
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: at that point and everything was Tony Stark related.
- 1:18:04Speaker 5: Right.
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: But now it's like we've never seen this guy without
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: the super suits.
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: It's like it's, again, been almost an Iron Man movie
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: for two and a half movies.
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:18:15Speaker 3: So it's like now we finally get like, oh, now
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: we're back to the Spider-Man we knew from cartoons a
- 1:18:20Speaker 3: million years ago.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: The DIY Superman.
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: That he has. Yeah. He makes his own suit, which
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: the other Spider-Men did too. But like it's interesting. You
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: didn't really think about it so much because you're so
- 1:18:30Speaker 3: immersed in the MCU that you're like, oh, no. Now
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: he is the Spider-Man we know.
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: And it took us three movies to get there, but
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: it is such an interesting journey for this character. And
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: I think Tom Holland has done such a great job,
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: like becoming this character and then sort of graduating up
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: to what he is and is going to be moving forward.
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: That like, it's, Again, it's only impressive the more I
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: thought about it as time went on.
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: And some appreciation for our villainous cast as well.
- 1:18:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I was like, we definitely haven't even gotten into
- 1:19:00Speaker 3: that for the most part.
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: Well, I felt bad for Reis Eifens, who basically kind
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: of got short shrift. He got like about three lines
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: in the movie, and basically at the end when he
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: got turned into Kurt Connors, we got to see, oh, hey,
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: Reis Eifens is back here. he was kind of very minor.
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: I felt like that, that whole movie though. Cause I
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: loved that character as a kid. Like I remember just the,
- 1:19:19Speaker 3: the whole, again, it's very, you know, Dr. Frankenstein, like
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: he's got the lab coat on, he's playing with chemicals.
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: Oh look, now he's a monster. Like it's so cool.
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: Like I loved that as a kid. And then that
- 1:19:30Speaker 3: movie was just like, yeah it was just such a
- 1:19:32Speaker 3: letdown so like i love the character but we've never
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: seen a good version of it we kept teasing it
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: in the first trilogy and we never got there yeah
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: and then they deliver in that second movie and it's
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: like meh so yeah it's even here like he just
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: sort of gets included like it's not he is not
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: our main focus at all like we've got two main
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: villains that kind of tie in the most And then
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: Jamie Foxx is fun. Jamie Foxx is in danger of
- 1:19:59Speaker 3: stealing the show. Yeah, and I think that's why. I
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: think he wasn't... Maybe they dialed back his involvement because,
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: you know, Osborn is the biggest... He definitely kind of
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: steals the show as villains go.
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: No surprise. I mean.
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: He's an amazing actor, period. But then the character of Dr.
- 1:20:17Speaker 3: Octopus is so strong that he becomes a huge part
- 1:20:22Speaker 3: of it, too. So I feel like everybody else is
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: sort of side characters between those two.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I... Of the Tobey Maguire films, Spider-Man 2 is
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: my favorite.
- 1:20:32Speaker 3: I think everybody kind of agrees. The first one is
- 1:20:35Speaker 3: such a good version of an origin story that it
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: holds up as that. But 2, like, okay, we got
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: that out of the way. Now we can just focus
- 1:20:43Speaker 3: on a good story. It was a much more fully
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: formed movie. I think everybody kind of goes, yeah, 2
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: is probably the strongest movie.
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: Nobody says 3. I think even Sam Raimi can apologize
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: for 3. But that's, I guarantee.
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: Even he's like, hey, that ain't my fault. I blame
- 1:20:57Speaker 3: the studio.
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: Rightfully so, he should blame the studio because Jesus.
- 1:21:02Speaker 3: But at least we got a nice song and dance number.
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: Sure. It's what we were really.
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: Wanting out of this.
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: But I gotta give some appreciation to Willem Dafoe. Frankly,
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: I think his performance in this was better than the
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: original Spider-Man.
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I liked him. Well, and they made,
- 1:21:18Speaker 3: I think, a smart choice. They may have done it for,
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: I don't know, I feel like maybe practical reasons, but
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: like I said all along, I was like, Willem Dafoe
- 1:21:27Speaker 3: is great. Green Goblin is great as a character. But
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: him in the mask delivering those lines feels so silly.
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: At the time, I saw it and was like, he
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: feels like a Power Rangers villain.
- 1:21:39Speaker 6: What?
- 1:21:39Speaker 3: Because the mouth doesn't move, so it's just like coming
- 1:21:42Speaker 3: from God knows where, and it looks kind of silly
- 1:21:44Speaker 3: when you're delivering the lines. So I'm like, it's a
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: cool mask, but it comes off silly, which shouldn't be
- 1:21:50Speaker 3: Green Goblin. Green Goblin is a vicious badass, and you shouldn't.
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: ever feel anything silly about him you know so it's.
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: Like i never got that because like you know my
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: comics it's basically looks like it's a like a rubber
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: mask so you can see his mouth moving his eyes
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: and sort of like that um in the ultimate comics
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: the alternate kind of universe they did with it uh
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: basically he fully like he did like a hulk sort
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: of transformation where he's like he almost makes more sense
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: yeah he looked more like a giant it wasn't a
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: goblin because goblins are tiny but he looked more like
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: a giant ogre yeah sort of thing like yeah but
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: it was a much more monstrous transformation But it made
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: sense that he's going to talk. You could see him
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: talking out of his mind. But yeah, so I'm glad
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: they ditched the mask as well. And he even destroyed it.
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: I was like, thank you. That's what I said from
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: the first movie.
- 1:22:32Speaker 3: I was like, get rid of that damn mask. And
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: he's so much creepier without it. He really is. That's
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: how good Willem Dafoe is.
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: And you've got to give some appreciation to the man.
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: He's 62 years of age. He was able to fit
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: into the original Green Goblin suit from the fucking 90s,
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: And signed up to do as many stunts as they
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: would let him do.
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: He insisted upon that. I'm like, God bless you, sir.
- 1:22:59Speaker 3: I was like, I don't want to climb up the
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: stairs anymore.
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: I'm an old man, but shit.
- 1:23:03Speaker 3: It's like you're out there jumping off of stuff and
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: blowing things up.
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: I guess it was like Streets of Fire and Platoon
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: is when I noticed him in the 80s.
- 1:23:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: And I was like, okay, this dude's good, especially in Platoon.
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, he's amazing in Platoon. Yeah, but it's
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: just like, my God. It's like, put us all to shame.
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: You fit in a suit you wore 20 years ago.
- 1:23:25Speaker 3: But then, like, he can do those over the top.
- 1:23:28Speaker 3: Even those, like, you know, Streets of Fire, he's amazing.
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: But it's mostly visual. He just looks crazy. But then
- 1:23:34Speaker 3: you look at something like.
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: I was going to say, his performance in The Lighthouse.
- 1:23:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, again... Oh, my God. He does that
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: kind of stuff, but you see... something like the Florida project.
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: He is a regular guy. Like if you haven't seen it,
- 1:23:49Speaker 3: like it is, it is amazing. And he's not the
- 1:23:52Speaker 3: main character, but he's in it a lot. And he is,
- 1:23:56Speaker 3: it's one of the few jobs. Like I was, I
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: think he even got an Oscar nomination that year, which
- 1:24:01Speaker 3: the rest of the movie didn't get a ton of
- 1:24:02Speaker 3: no notice because it's super low budget, but he is
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: a regular guy. He's normal, like even to the point
- 1:24:13Speaker 3: where like a lot of this centers around a small
- 1:24:15Speaker 3: child and you're afraid, oh, God, well, this is going
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: to get creepy. He's the most like good character in
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: the movie. He is always there, like sort of taking
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: care of things when he doesn't need to be like
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: it is such a weird turn when you're so used
- 1:24:31Speaker 3: to seeing him and be like. creepy and over the
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: top and play all these strange characters but you see
- 1:24:37Speaker 3: like you see him tackle somebody who is a normal
- 1:24:40Speaker 3: person you're like oh wait he can do that too
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: like it's not just like he can dial it up
- 1:24:44Speaker 3: to 11 like he can scale it back and be
- 1:24:47Speaker 3: a regular guy and also be convincing so like he
- 1:24:51Speaker 3: again like he gets a lot of credit but like
- 1:24:53Speaker 3: he deserves every bit of sure like he is so
- 1:24:56Speaker 3: good and this Is no exception. This is one of
- 1:24:59Speaker 3: the best performances, certainly in this movie.
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: It really is.
- 1:25:03Speaker 3: He is amazing in this movie. And definitely you can
- 1:25:06Speaker 3: see that back and forth transformation. You totally buy. He
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: is an entirely different person when he's being kind of
- 1:25:15Speaker 3: scared and confused Osborn versus full on Green Goblin. He
- 1:25:19Speaker 3: is a whole different character.
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: And that was handled far better than I think in
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: the Sam Raimi film. Because even when he was supposed
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: to be normal Osborn, he still gave all the creepy vibes.
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: He seems sinister, yeah.
- 1:25:27Speaker 3: He definitely seems sinister.
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: He's like, I'm one of the scientists too. Come on
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: by and check out the lab, Peter. And I will
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: murder you. It's a ploy.
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: It seems like he's luring him in. Whereas here you
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: don't get that. He feels like a real guy and
- 1:25:40Speaker 3: he really is just confused and scared and out of
- 1:25:43Speaker 3: sorts and doesn't know what's going on. And isn't evil
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: and planning to take over until the switch, you know?
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: It was such a stark contrast when you see him
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: in the scene where, you know, he's in the feast
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: homeless shelter with Aunt May, you know, swiping donuts. And
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: he looks so pathetic. He does. It's like, wow. It's like,
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: there you go. So we've seen the genius Norman Osborn
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: and the military industrialist, but we've never seen the actual, like,
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: victim of this mental illness that he has.
- 1:26:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: And it was good. And of course, it was such
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: a good payoff. Because sometimes you get a death, especially
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: in a superhero movie, where sometimes the payoff is... It's
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: supposed to be there, and you don't feel it. Where
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: it's like, when May gets hit, you're like, oh, shit.
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: And then she gets up, and you're like, okay, she's okay.
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: But then you're like, oh, wait, no.
- 1:26:34Speaker 3: That's the thing, yeah. It's like a fake out. You're like, okay, okay,
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: she's going to be all right. And then I'm like, oh, okay.
- 1:26:39Speaker 3: That's why I was like, well, I guess they've got
- 1:26:40Speaker 3: to kill somebody else in this movie. That's what happens
- 1:26:43Speaker 3: in these movies.
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: But then when you get to that fight scene between
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: Tom Holland and Dafoe, and you get that moment where
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: you're like... He's going to kill him.
- 1:26:50Speaker 3: Well, and that becomes a big push by the end
- 1:26:53Speaker 3: of this movie. And it is one of those that's,
- 1:26:56Speaker 3: it's hard for me. Like I get to the point
- 1:26:58Speaker 3: real world wise. I'm like, is there, and it's such
- 1:27:01Speaker 3: a huge thing in this movie. Is it worth saving people?
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: You know? And that becomes the whole end of this
- 1:27:08Speaker 3: movie is like, he could just go off and kill
- 1:27:11Speaker 3: him and be done with it. But it's like, Aunt
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: May in particular, is like, no, your job as a
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: hero is to save everyone. Like, that you don't get
- 1:27:20Speaker 3: to be... You're not the vigilante. You're not Punisher. You
- 1:27:23Speaker 3: don't get to decide that you want to murder them
- 1:27:25Speaker 3: because that's what you think that day. Your job is
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: to save everybody. Even if they're evil, you're supposed to
- 1:27:32Speaker 3: be above all of that and still come through for
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: that person, too. Which is hard for me as, you know,
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: real world. I'm like, no, screw that guy. He just
- 1:27:40Speaker 3: murdered Durant. So... But it becomes the whole push of
- 1:27:44Speaker 3: that second half of the movie is like, is it
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: worth redeeming these characters? Is it worth saving these characters?
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: If you can, should you do it? And again, it's
- 1:27:56Speaker 3: hard for me in real world to do that. But
- 1:27:58Speaker 3: within this movie, that is the push of all three
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: of them because all of them are sort of dealing.
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: The other two like killed these characters. So like essentially,
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: or they're at their death. So you watch the other
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: two kind of go, yeah, what if I could fix that?
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: You know, what if that wasn't the way it worked out?
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: And then we watched them sort of work on this.
- 1:28:20Speaker 3: They do have a quick fix for all of them. Granted,
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: they've been working on it, the other two, for a while,
- 1:28:25Speaker 3: so it's not completely off the wall, but it is
- 1:28:29Speaker 3: funny that we get that little, like, working on science,
- 1:28:32Speaker 3: we're doing science, and we get a quick little version
- 1:28:34Speaker 3: of that, and then they've got the fix for everybody.
- 1:28:36Speaker 3: But that is the whole push of that second half
- 1:28:39Speaker 3: of the movie.
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: And there's also the potential implication of these five villains
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: that get cured three of them could potentially put themselves
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: right back in the same spot yeah they're still Kirk
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: Connors Dr. Octavius and Norman Osborn are still scientists.
- 1:28:53Speaker 3: And that's that's what I again kind of going back
- 1:28:57Speaker 3: to what we were talking about earlier in the being
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: like implications of things changing more of like the Loki lines, but,
- 1:29:04Speaker 3: or even the, the, our time traveling crazy persona, what
- 1:29:10Speaker 3: happens when you then redeem these characters and then insert
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: them back into their timeline? Like, does that not butterfly
- 1:29:18Speaker 3: effect change everything from that point on like good or bad,
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: but even if it in one, on the one hand
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: is good and saves this person and maybe they, don't
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: turn evil. And they do go on to like help
- 1:29:29Speaker 3: people with science. It's still going to change everything from
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: that point. And maybe what changes will hurt things in
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: the long run. Like you don't know what's going to
- 1:29:38Speaker 3: happen when you start messing with that time ripple of like, okay,
- 1:29:41Speaker 3: you change this for the better, but now down the line,
- 1:29:44Speaker 3: this happens because of that.
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: So I don't know. Do we address that or do
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: they just sort of like, whatever we saved them. Yay.
- 1:29:51Speaker 3: But I was like, well, maybe they needed to die
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: in that timeline at that point. Or something worse would happen. So,
- 1:29:58Speaker 3: I don't know. That, I overthink it at this point.
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: Well, it does bring up some interesting questions. Because, like,
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: especially with, like, the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man. Okay, we've cured
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: your villain from Amazing Spider-Man 1. We've only cured one
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: of your villains from Amazing Spider-Man 2. The Dane DeHaan
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: Green Goblin still existed. Yeah. Still kills Gwen Stacy and
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: still dies. He does not get saved. Your girlfriend does
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: not get saved.
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: So that remains very much in there. Jamie Foxx's character,
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: you know, basically, you know, Max Dillon kind of being
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: put back in. Like, well, he was kind of a
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: schlub before he became Electro.
- 1:30:36Speaker 3: Now he seems cooler. Is that the big takeaway?
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: He got a makeover. Yeah.
- 1:30:41Speaker 3: He's not so dorky now?
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: He's not so dorky, but it's like, is he any
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: better of a person?
- 1:30:47Speaker 3: No. I mean... He seemed like he was a decent
- 1:30:50Speaker 3: person before the accident. So, like, does he come back
- 1:30:53Speaker 3: to that point? Or having tasted all the power that
- 1:30:57Speaker 3: came with that, is now he potentially going to go
- 1:30:59Speaker 3: looking for that again? So he can, you know, ride
- 1:31:02Speaker 3: that wave again. Does he ever go back to being
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: the good person he probably was to begin with?
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: So, yeah. So there's, you know, I'm actually surprised that,
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: you know, basically when Ned told Doctor Strange, oh, hang on.
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: You know, his plan's working. He's curing them all. And
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: Strange was fine with this. Like, there is still, like
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: you said, that butterfly effect.
- 1:31:20Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: Like, we're reinserting people who died back into a timeline.
- 1:31:24Speaker 3: Back into a timeline.
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: So it's like.
- 1:31:25Speaker 3: That has to affect a lot.
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: There's going to be something there. And, of course, I love, like,
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: the little teaser we saw a little bit when basically
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: you get all the purple cracks in the world and
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: Strange is putting them all back together again. And we
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: see some images of people. Silhouettes. So we saw one
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: of the rhino, which granted, we've seen the rhino in
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: Amazing Spider-Man 2. But that was the classic rhino, as
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: in a dude in a rubber suit that looked more
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: like a rhinoceros, not in a metal skeleton thing, sort
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: of thing like that. With a crazy accent. Right. Well,
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: he is Russian, so he should have a Russian accent.
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: Thank you. But that was a weird accent. That was, yeah,
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: Paul Giamatti. I love Paul Giamatti, but that was a
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: weird accent. That was a weird accent, yeah, yeah. The
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: other interesting thing is there was another character we saw
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: that we've not seen in a Spider-Man film, and that
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: is Kraven the Hunter. There was a large dude you
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: saw look like very muscular and holding a big spear. Yes,
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: Kraven the Hunter is basically a big game hunter who
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: is already psychotic. Also, he's Russian, so there may be
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: something to that. I don't know.
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: We love bringing in crazy Russians.
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: Well, basically, when he was created, it was still in
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: the Cold War era. He was in the 60s, so
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: it was Cold War crazy Russians.
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: As long as he wears a tracksuit, that's all we're
- 1:32:36Speaker 3: looking for.
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: No, I want him in a lion skin.
- 1:32:40Speaker 3: I mean, that is his basic outfit. I just like
- 1:32:42Speaker 3: our recent crazy Russians. Yeah, well, those are different crazy Russians.
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: But yeah, this guy, he develops a penchant for hunting spiders.
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: so that could be a problem so I hope to
- 1:32:55Speaker 3: see Kraven in the near future I would assume somewhere
- 1:32:58Speaker 3: down the line we have to get to all these characters.
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: But I just I appreciated the treatment of Eddie Brock
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: as rightfully so it was like okay it was funny
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: to pop him in the MCU for about five minutes
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: and let him have a very long conversation with a
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: bartender who was way more patient than he should have
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: been and even like his symbiotes telling him no it's
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: this it's this yeah So, no, it's a get your
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: ass back home, leave a little piece to yourself. Interestingly enough,
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: we may actually already have the wearer of that suit,
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: Mac Gargan, who we met in the first Spider-Man Homecoming
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: at the little scene where after Vulture's already in prison
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: and he's talking to some dude, there's a guy with
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: a scorpion tattoo on his neck. That's Mac Gargan. He
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: becomes the scorpion who also later on gets a Venom
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: suit for a short period of time. So maybe he's
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: going to be our villain.
- 1:33:47Speaker 3: So not Flash, who we definitely have had in all
- 1:33:49Speaker 3: three movies.
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: You know what?
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: They've put that actor in a lot for somebody if
- 1:33:55Speaker 3: they don't pay off with anything.
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: Well, Flash was always, basically, in the classic Spider-Man, he
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: was the bully. You know, on this one, they made
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: him a little more like... I mean, he's still a bully.
- 1:34:05Speaker 3: He's a different kind of bully.
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: Yeah, he's just like an annoying rich kid. He's just
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: a rich bastard. It's like, he's not going to kick
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: your ass, but he's going to put you in the
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: burn room.
- 1:34:13Speaker 3: Yeah, he's going to make you look silly.
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: That's his job.
- 1:34:15Speaker 3: Make everybody look like an asshole.
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: Now, granted, though, he does have the redemptive arc in
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: his later years where he joins the military, loses both
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: of his legs in a bomb act, you know, like
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: an IED sort of situation. And then he gets a
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: Venom suit that becomes Venom Space Knight, and he's hanging
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: out with the Guardians of the Galaxy... traversing the galaxy
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: being a superhero so he's had his big you know
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: kind of persona and you know journey and everything like
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: that i don't know if this particular flash is right.
- 1:34:43Speaker 3: For that it's yeah they definitely went a different way
- 1:34:46Speaker 3: and i don't know that i can see him working
- 1:34:49Speaker 3: good as a villain or.
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: A hero really.
- 1:34:52Speaker 3: Like the and the actor does a great job with
- 1:34:55Speaker 3: what he's given but it only has so much like
- 1:34:58Speaker 3: he's almost just there to be the butt of the
- 1:35:00Speaker 3: joke you know he's just there too look silly. When
- 1:35:03Speaker 3: he's like, look, I wrote a book. Like, everything is like, oh, God,
- 1:35:06Speaker 3: Flash again.
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: Like, he's always... Wouldn't it be fun if, like, either
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: we have some sort of moment where, like, bringing in
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: another multiverse or having multiple Venoms or something like that, and, like,
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: Joe Manganiello is one of the Venoms. Because, like, there
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: was our original Flash Thompson.
- 1:35:19Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: It's like, I would love to see Joe Manganiello pop
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: up as a Venom.
- 1:35:22Speaker 3: Extra layers of geekiness.
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: Please, yeah. Just, that would be great. But, yeah, kind of...
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: Where this film leaves us off is like, yeah, like
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: we said, it takes us back to the classic Spider-Man.
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: There's no support system. He is on his own. He
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: is in almost poverty.
- 1:35:39Speaker 3: It was really, again, going back to my walking out
- 1:35:43Speaker 3: of the theater, it was really depressing. Mostly because I
- 1:35:47Speaker 3: felt very real kinship. I was like, oh, look at
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: this poor bastard. I'm just like Spider-Man now. I just
- 1:35:52Speaker 3: don't have superpowers. But other than that, I'm just sitting
- 1:35:55Speaker 3: around by myself all day like this poor bastard.
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: And I would absolutely love it if he ends up
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: working for Jonah Jameson.
- 1:36:04Speaker 3: Or at least getting into... Again, we've never gotten any
- 1:36:07Speaker 3: real world because he's still the high school kid. We
- 1:36:10Speaker 3: don't get him with a job. So at least becoming like, oh,
- 1:36:15Speaker 3: I'm going to be a photographer. Like even... Now it
- 1:36:18Speaker 3: would have to be for a website or something.
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: It would be like a TMZ sort of thing. It's like, yeah,
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: I need footage of Spider-Man. Oh, I'll get you footage
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: of Spider-Man.
- 1:36:25Speaker 3: I can hook you up with some of that.
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: There's the camera set up there and Spider-Man doing the things.
- 1:36:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that would be kind of fun just to, again,
- 1:36:32Speaker 3: full force get to our Peter Parker that we know.
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: Well, and the thing I've always– I think this may
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: have been brought up in one of the Spider-Man video
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: games that actually has Peter and Miles in it, kind
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: of having a little bit of a tête-à-tête sort of
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: thing like that. But Miles made a really good point
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: that basically, like, in the game, Jonah's got a.
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: Basically, it's like a podcast that he does. And so
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: that's constantly how Jonah is in the game. Like, Peter's
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: listening to the podcast. listening to basically this dude rant
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: about how terrible person he is while he's out saving
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: the city yeah and miles points i was like dude
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: how masochistic are you that you're listening to this guy constantly.
- 1:37:09Speaker 5: He's talking shit about you while you're out doing good
- 1:37:12Speaker 5: things it's like that is like that is another great
- 1:37:16Speaker 5: aspect of peter's like he is so self-masochistic and so
- 1:37:20Speaker 5: damaging and like The inner conversation that goes.
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: Toby brought that up. It's like, yeah, that inner conversation.
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: You're good. You're amazing. It's like, yeah. It's like he's
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: going to start having those moments.
- 1:37:35Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:37:36Speaker 3: I don't know. I mean, it is interesting by the
- 1:37:39Speaker 3: time you get to that finale. And we do.
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: It is.
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: As much as I kind of wanted other aspects to it,
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: just watching those three work together and then... again sort
- 1:37:51Speaker 3: of support each other like the brothers that none of
- 1:37:53Speaker 3: them ever had so it's like they are kind of
- 1:37:56Speaker 3: like that and they all bring a different aspect to
- 1:37:58Speaker 3: what's going on with the three of them but it
- 1:38:01Speaker 3: also is this all about sacrifice yeah like everything that
- 1:38:06Speaker 3: that you know aunt may said and kind of left
- 1:38:08Speaker 3: him with then comes down to that in that final
- 1:38:11Speaker 3: battle and then it's like As if that wasn't like
- 1:38:15Speaker 3: just letting him live and curing him is enough of
- 1:38:17Speaker 3: a sacrifice when all you.
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: Want to do is murder him. Right.
- 1:38:20Speaker 3: But then on top of that, kind of going above
- 1:38:22Speaker 3: and beyond. And that's sort of him graduating up to
- 1:38:25Speaker 3: the adult version of Peter now It's like, I'm willing
- 1:38:29Speaker 3: to let everything I have go. Giving a better life
- 1:38:33Speaker 3: to the people I love. Everybody else is pretty much gone.
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: All I have are these two characters, more or less.
- 1:38:39Speaker 3: And I'm willing to let them go and go on
- 1:38:43Speaker 3: alone because it's better for them. And it is... an
- 1:38:47Speaker 3: extra level of like responsibility that we've never even been
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: exposed to with this MCU, especially with him completely being alone.
- 1:38:55Speaker 3: Now it's again, it's sad and depressing for me, but
- 1:38:59Speaker 3: I like the story arc. Like it really does leave
- 1:39:01Speaker 3: him as such a, a more polished and grown-up version
- 1:39:05Speaker 3: of the character that we've never seen before.
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: Yeah, and honestly, we kind of glossed over the fact
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: that the movie does too. You've got to feel bad
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: for Happy at this point.
- 1:39:14Speaker 3: Yeah, he's lost everybody.
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: Well, I mean, he's still got Pepper and Morgan. He
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: can go over there and be Uncle Happy for a
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: little bit, but his best friend is gone, his lady
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: love is gone.
- 1:39:24Speaker 3: Tony was his whole world, and then the only other
- 1:39:26Speaker 3: person he sort of made any connection with was Aunt May,
- 1:39:29Speaker 3: and now she's gone. So really, I mean, he's just...
- 1:39:32Speaker 3: Attached to them. And then it does lead to... What
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: happens to Stark Industries now? Because they sort of took
- 1:39:39Speaker 3: the blame for everything that happened in the last movie.
- 1:39:42Speaker 3: Whereas Peter got taken out of it. He's like, hey,
- 1:39:45Speaker 3: it wasn't my take. I was just kind of involved.
- 1:39:47Speaker 3: It wasn't me. So then it leaves the rest of
- 1:39:49Speaker 3: it in the Stark end of it. Which they then
- 1:39:52Speaker 3: start taking things into custody. And like, is he... He,
- 1:39:56Speaker 3: who's not there anymore, but is... pepper and the rest
- 1:39:59Speaker 3: of the company going to then take the fall for
- 1:40:01Speaker 3: all of this enough that it sort of hurts the
- 1:40:03Speaker 3: industry are we going to see that down the line
- 1:40:06Speaker 3: that like stark isn't the big power that it used
- 1:40:09Speaker 3: to be because this whole thing sort of took it
- 1:40:12Speaker 3: down legally or financially or both and like yeah i
- 1:40:17Speaker 3: don't know how much that's going to factor in in
- 1:40:18Speaker 3: the future.
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: Uh the answer is yes we will be seeing that
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: in the near future uh and the series armor wars
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: you know We got kind of a little taste of
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: it in the Falcon Winter Soldier. We saw Don Cheadle
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: pop back up as Rhodey. So they kind of got
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: a little taste of that because basically got the Sharon
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: Carter character being the power broker still kind of out
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: about doing like she's going to do some nefarious stuff
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: and may try to bring down S.H.I.E.L.D. or the U.S.
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: government from the inside.
- 1:40:45Speaker 3: Yeah, they're definitely setting a lot into play on that
- 1:40:48Speaker 3: one because they've dropped. A couple of different little Easter
- 1:40:51Speaker 3: eggs on that one. So we know it's coming.
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: But then definitely what happened here in the Spider-Man movie, yeah,
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: we're going to see a lot of Stark tech in
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: the hands of other people who should not have it.
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: Worse than Justin Hammer. Justin Hammer was a complete and
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: total waste of space fuck-up. He was a C, D
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: grade Tony Stark. But there are far more competent people
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: in the Marvel Universe that could pick up that tech
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: and do some dangerous things with it. So, yeah, that's
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: what we're going to see in Armor Wars. So, no
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: date on that one yet. It's going to be either
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: later this year or next year. But, yeah, it's coming.
- 1:41:29Speaker 3: I would assume, as much as they have in play
- 1:41:33Speaker 3: at this point.
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: That's what I love about the MCU, man. There is
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: a plan.
- 1:41:37Speaker 3: There are six steps ahead of even where you.
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: Think they're going. And if you've been reading for 40-some-odd years,
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: you can see maybe where some of the steps are going. Like,
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: for instance, in Eternals. Have you seen that one yet?
- 1:41:50Speaker 3: I think I told you. I'm just so not interested.
- 1:41:53Speaker 3: I know timeline-wise I was at least factoring in because
- 1:41:57Speaker 3: it happens essentially at the same time. Actually, all of
- 1:42:00Speaker 3: these are kind of simultaneously going on at the same time.
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: Yeah, this is all post-Endgame stuff, definitely. It's addressed.
- 1:42:07Speaker 3: So they're saying as the end battle in this movie
- 1:42:10Speaker 3: is going on essentially on the other side of the planet.
- 1:42:13Speaker 3: The Eternals battle is about to take off.
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: Well, the Eternals is much more of a sweeping epic
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: because basically these are characters that are thousands of years
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: old and we somewhat go on a bit of that journey.
- 1:42:22Speaker 3: That was part of my issue with the trailer. I
- 1:42:24Speaker 3: was like, I'm kind of annoyed at you guys and
- 1:42:26Speaker 3: I haven't even watched your movie yet. Because you sat
- 1:42:29Speaker 3: there and did nothing while the world fell apart and
- 1:42:32Speaker 3: half the people got killed and you didn't do anything.
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: There are many, many reasons for that.
- 1:42:37Speaker 3: I know they bring that up, but I'm just like,
- 1:42:39Speaker 3: I don't know that I can care about you.
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: You didn't do anything. Not spoiling a movie that's been
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: out for a while. It's about to come to DVD
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: and on Disney +. The Eternals are not human. Essentially,
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: they are super robots. They're more than just that. They
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: are created by super robots, the Celestials. We got a
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: little side of them in Guardians of the Galaxy. They
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: are literally like these giant planet-sized robots that are world
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: builders and world destroyers. they created the Celestials, but also they,
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: or the Celestials created the Eternals, but they also had
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: a hand in creating the Skrull and the Kree as well.
- 1:43:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: Because they're basically just enhanced humans. So, they got into like,
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: there's a lot more like this Old world building. It
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: all gets too complicated. That's the thing. For the small
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: Hawkeye stuff, you've also got your big-ass cosmic shit that
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: doesn't involve any superheroes because it's way.
- 1:43:35Speaker 3: Far beyond that.
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: It's too big, yeah. It's bigger than one superhero. Maybe
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: Doctor Strange is involved. Maybe the Fantastic Four. Maybe the Surfer.
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: But you're not getting Spider-Man. You're not getting Captain America
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: and this kind of shit. No, there's too big for them.
- 1:43:47Speaker 3: Once again, I kind of like this. I like the
- 1:43:50Speaker 3: more grounded characters. I like them both. If they do
- 1:43:53Speaker 3: the right thing with them, I like where they go sometimes.
- 1:43:56Speaker 3: But yeah, I'm usually way more drawn to the more grounded,
- 1:43:59Speaker 3: as much as they can be with anybody.
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: In this universe. Of course, there's a couple of scenes
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: with that that set up another. Showing up Harry Styles,
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: showing up as a character. The character they cast him in, essentially,
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: he is Eros, Star Fox. He is also from the
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: Planet Titan scene. planet as thanos he's like the he's
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: the love god essentially like you know you just can't
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: so he's himself he is himself but the most interesting
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: thing is and hopefully that will definitely bring us up
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: he is the little brother of.
- 1:44:31Speaker 7: Thanos interesting yep complete opposites of the spectrum because thanos
- 1:44:36Speaker 7: essentially was a deviant when he was born he shouldn't
- 1:44:39Speaker 7: have looked that way he should have looked like his
- 1:44:41Speaker 7: brother yeah but he.
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: Came out looking purple and rocky and evil So, yes,
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: the question is, can something be born evil?
- 1:44:49Speaker 5: Yes.
- 1:44:51Speaker 3: I think Thanos has proven it.
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: Yeah. But then there was, of course, they had a
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: little bit more scene with the Black Knight and his sword.
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: Of course, they made the sword a little more creepy
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: than it actually is in the comics, which is really cool.
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: But then you hear an off-camera voice kind of reminiscent
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: of Nick Fury showing up in Tony Stark's apartment.
- 1:45:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: But we don't see who the person is, but the
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: actor is Marshal Ali.
- 1:45:14Speaker 3: We know where we're going. Because we've got six movies
- 1:45:17Speaker 3: to set up, so we've got to get Blade rolling.
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: We've got to get Blade rolling there. But then the
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: other thing is basically at the end of the film
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: that this giant celestial Arsham is kind of punishing the
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: Eternals and saying, you know, yeah, you guys are going
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: to go up this way. Retribution and judgment is coming.
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: What does that mean? That means one of probably two things.
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: Either we're going to introduce the Living Tribunal, which basically
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: is the end-all, be-all cosmic justice of everything. He decides
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: all the stuff. And he may decide that Earth is
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: ripe for basically being destroyed. And that could enter in Galactus.
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: We're kind of rewriting him a little bit, making him
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: a servant of Celestials. But it's the most easy way
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: to introduce the world destroyer Galactus. Eater of worlds. And
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: then if you bring in Galactus, then you've got to
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: have a way to bring in the Fantastic Four. Because
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: they're so closely connected. So there's... There's so much stuff.
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: And of course, Mr. Watts, who very successfully directed three
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: Spider-Man films, his next thing is Fantastic Four.
- 1:46:20Speaker 3: That's what I was going to say. This is the
- 1:46:22Speaker 3: only trilogy we've had directed by the same person. We've
- 1:46:26Speaker 3: handed off and the Russos took on.
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: A bunch of other stuff.
- 1:46:29Speaker 3: But still, nobody's ever had one trilogy. Trilogy, one character.
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: The Russos had three films, but theirs were split up.
- 1:46:38Speaker 3: They were doing the Avengers stuff and Captain.
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: They did Civil War.
- 1:46:42Speaker 3: It was just Avengers. It was Avengers minus a couple
- 1:46:46Speaker 3: of characters. I always kind of lump that in there.
- 1:46:50Speaker 3: It's another Avengers. It's two and a half.
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: It's interesting they made it a Captain America movie, but
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: Civil War is too big of a thing.
- 1:46:59Speaker 3: It's Avengers, sort of. So, but yeah, I mean, did
- 1:47:02Speaker 3: an amazing job, really. And I feel like does have
- 1:47:05Speaker 3: a very consistent thing through all three of these movies
- 1:47:10Speaker 3: and does know how to shoot stuff. Well, we have
- 1:47:12Speaker 3: seen for somebody who came pretty quickly from Indie Roots
- 1:47:16Speaker 3: to being thrown into this multimillion dollar machine. it's still,
- 1:47:21Speaker 3: I feel like as much as any of them get
- 1:47:23Speaker 3: to have much of a take, you know, you don't,
- 1:47:25Speaker 3: you don't really get to bring a whole lot of
- 1:47:27Speaker 3: artistry because you're part of the Marvel overall. But like,
- 1:47:30Speaker 3: I feel like he still knows how to shoot these movies.
- 1:47:33Speaker 3: We set up good action scenes and still brings kind
- 1:47:36Speaker 3: of like his own character to Peter in his three
- 1:47:40Speaker 3: movies versus it's still pretty consistent in the Avengers stuff too.
- 1:47:43Speaker 3: But I feel like he has his own sort of
- 1:47:45Speaker 3: feeling in his three movies.
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: Well, he knows kind of like, the youth culture of today,
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: you know, basically how phone conversations happen, how, you know,
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: we interact with each other and everything, you know, it's like, yeah, just,
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: it's such as just cute little differences. Like, you know,
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: he and MJ having like the voice chat, you know, conversation,
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: you know, before they go to bed, it's like, you know, 10,
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: 15 years ago, that would have been a text chat
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: or 20 years ago, it would have been a phone call.
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: It's just so cute how shit changes like that.
- 1:48:13Speaker 3: Again, it's just readjusting things for the world and technology
- 1:48:16Speaker 3: as they come along because you can't keep doing things
- 1:48:19Speaker 3: the old way. It doesn't process anymore.
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: But man, I'd say the implications of where we're headed.
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: I mean, just this year alone, for Marvel stuff, we've got...
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: Of the official MCU stuff, we've got three movies. And
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: then seven series for Disney +. And the only hard
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: date we've got of any of those series is the
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special. We know it was
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: going to be in the month of December somewhere.
- 1:48:45Speaker 3: That's far away. We just had the holidays.
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: Right. But other than that, I mean, you've got Ms. Marvel,
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Secret Invasion, possibly the second season of Loki.
- 1:48:58Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: Don't know if we're already going to get a second
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: season of What If. We're going to get a second
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: season of What If. I'm not sure if it's already.
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: There were some episodes that were finished that didn't get
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: to air this first season. And they had to kind
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: of push them back. So I don't know. So we
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: may see some of those early. I don't know. We
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: may not. Possibly the Armor Wars series later on. So, yeah.
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: All kinds. Then.
- 1:49:20Speaker 3: When do we get back to Kate? When does she
- 1:49:23Speaker 3: get to take over? And how soon do they start
- 1:49:25Speaker 3: working her into the films?
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: That's a good question. Because, you know, there could be.
- 1:49:29Speaker 3: I mean.
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: Honestly, she can be involved in Secret Invasion. Possibly she
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: can be involved in Armor Wars. That's what I wondered.
- 1:49:34Speaker 3: Does she get her own series again, or did they
- 1:49:37Speaker 3: just now jump to throwing her in other stuff with
- 1:49:40Speaker 3: the Avengers?
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: Right now, no. There's no plan that I know of
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: of her specifically being put into something. Now, maybe she
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: pops up in the Echo series. It's kind of a
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: secondary for Maya.
- 1:49:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: Well, I don't know. That could be an interesting pairing there,
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: or they could do something entirely with her. But, yeah,
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: Kate's got a lot of potential where she can go. Yeah.
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: They can even do a second season of her and
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: Hawkeye together.
- 1:50:04Speaker 3: Again, like another little adventure to bring him back to
- 1:50:07Speaker 3: town or whatever.
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: The thing I love, too, is, of course, they got
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: much more of the partnership. She can leave New York,
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: you know, sort of thing like that. But then bringing
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: in Mockingbird and kind of that sideways door they did.
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: Because you expected, like, from the moment Linda Barton pops
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: up in Age of Ultron, you're like, she is not
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: your typical mom, housewife sort of thing. Like, was she
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: an agent? It literally took this long after seeing her
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: on multiple occasions, but literally took this long to finally think, yes,
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: not only is she a retired agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., but
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: she's fucking Agent 19, the Mockingbird. It's like she was
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: literally Hawkeye's partner. So, yeah, for an Avengers fan, it
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: was a wonderful payoff in that. It was interesting, though,
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: kind of snubbing The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. show once again
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: because they had a mockingbird with Agent Pilecki. She was
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: on the first couple seasons and then supposedly she was
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: going to get her own show and then that fell
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: through and then she never came back to the proper show.
- 1:51:06Speaker 3: That just seemed like a lot of missteps in that
- 1:51:08Speaker 3: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I wanted in the beginning, I wanted
- 1:51:11Speaker 3: to root for it and then what little, I was
- 1:51:14Speaker 3: just like, no.
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: I know. They couldn't decide whether it was connected to
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: the MCU or not. And then those last couple of
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: seasons where they did a little time travel thing and
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: it wasn't connected. I'm like, why now? So, yeah.
- 1:51:25Speaker 3: It's too much.
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: Well, and the biggest piss off thing is that, okay,
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: you're going to do this series where you bring a character,
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: a beloved character back from the dead. And there's no way,
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: shape or form that anybody who gave a shit about
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: him knows he's still alive. Yeah. Including Nick Fury.
- 1:51:41Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:51:41Speaker 3: I just hated that they brought him back. I was like,
- 1:51:43Speaker 3: that was such a key moment in that first Avengers movie.
- 1:51:46Speaker 3: And then like, you totally like, no, I'm just kidding.
- 1:51:49Speaker 3: He's fine.
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: Don't you worry.
- 1:51:50Speaker 3: He gets his own series.
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: Well, it was interesting the way he was rebuilt though. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: Basically that was kind of, that was really screwed up
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: and they kind of revealed all that.
- 1:51:59Speaker 3: It just pulls the rug out from under, you know,
- 1:52:01Speaker 3: it had so much weight in that movie that, you know,
- 1:52:04Speaker 3: that was the first of our, well, we're going to
- 1:52:06Speaker 3: kill off real characters here. We're going to kill off
- 1:52:08Speaker 3: people you cared about already. In a Joss Whedon way.
- 1:52:11Speaker 3: Bastard that he is now, we know. But he still
- 1:52:15Speaker 3: had a real knack for doing that, for building real
- 1:52:18Speaker 3: characters that you cared about and then having no problem
- 1:52:21Speaker 3: killing them off if the story needed it. That's what
- 1:52:23Speaker 3: he did.
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: Again, if you've been a fan long enough, you can
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: kind of see some of the larger picture of what
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: they're doing. So, yeah, killing off Coulson was an important
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: moment in the Avengers story. With S.H.I.E.L.D. having the ability,
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: using some alien technology, some Kree technology, to bring him
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: back to life in a very traumatic and painful way,
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: shows the actual dangers that exist in the cracks of
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: the Marvel Universe that could be problematic later on.
- 1:52:50Speaker 3: They just, I got sick of them fake out killing people.
- 1:52:54Speaker 3: Cause then like, Oh, we're going to kill Nick Fury. Oh,
- 1:52:57Speaker 3: give it a couple of scenes. He's back now. He's fine.
- 1:52:59Speaker 3: Like they, they kept playing that card of like, look,
- 1:53:01Speaker 3: we're going to kill this guy. So it took us
- 1:53:04Speaker 3: until the end of end game to start really well
- 1:53:07Speaker 3: in the end of infinity war. But when we started
- 1:53:09Speaker 3: taking out characters that we were like, I don't think
- 1:53:12Speaker 3: they're coming back. Like, so they faked it out too
- 1:53:15Speaker 3: many times in the middle there. I was like, just
- 1:53:17Speaker 3: either kill him or don't. But like, if we're going to,
- 1:53:19Speaker 3: have a death that's important, let's make it important and
- 1:53:22Speaker 3: leave them dead.
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: Well, see, and the Nick Fury fakeout is important for
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: a couple reasons we don't know yet. Thankfully, with the
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: introduction of the Skrulls and the character of Talos that
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: we know has impersonated Nick Fury in the past, the
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: question is.
- 1:53:36Speaker 3: And this whole last movie that they.
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: Because even Peter didn't realize it. Yeah, the question is,
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: how long had he been Nick Fury? And the answer is,
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: he's been Nick Fury since The Winter Soldier. Because, and
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: thankfully someone on TikTok, you know, made a video kind
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: of pointing out all these things. The theories are fantastic.
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: And they're completely sound. Because one of the main things,
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: like in Captain Marvel, which of course takes place in
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: the 90s, you get a young Nick Fury. And he's
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: having a conversation with Carol about how he's not a Skrull.
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: And one of the things he's talking about is like sandwiches.
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: If it's cut diagonally, it's cool. But if it's cut,
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: you know, normal, like down the middle, like everybody normally does,
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: he can't eat it. If you see in the Winter Soldier. So,
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: you know, Winter Soldier attacks Nick. He's in the hospital.
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: We know Nick's all of his maladies. I got broken this,
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: broken that. I'm going to be in the hospital for
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: a while. And then maybe like 45 minutes to an
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: hour later, he pops back up in Clint's barn. Just fine.
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: Talking to everybody. What's he do? Makes a sandwich. He
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: cuts it square.
- 1:54:36Speaker 3: Like a crazy evil alien that we can't trust.
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: Talos isn't evil, but he's an alien that didn't have
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: all the details.
- 1:54:44Speaker 3: I don't trust him.
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: Well, you shouldn't trust a Skrull. These particular Skrulls are okay.
- 1:54:48Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying.
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: I don't trust them. Those Skrulls are okay. But there
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: are other Skrulls who we will see in the Secret
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: Invasion storyline coming up very soon at Disney +. I'm sure.
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: That there are Skrulls who have been in our society
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: for a very long time infiltrating and what sort of
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: problems that causes when that identity is revealed.
- 1:55:07Speaker 3: Sounds like most conspiracy theories I hear on YouTube.
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: Well... It's pretty... Pretty damn close to the real world. Unfortunately,
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: in the MCU, there probably are some Democrats who might
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: actually be lizard people. They don't eat babies. They don't
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: eat them in the bottom of a pizza restaurant. But
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: they are green aliens.
- 1:55:28Speaker 3: But stay away from underneath the Denver airport.
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: Is what I'm saying.
- 1:55:33Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: I haven't heard that one.
- 1:55:36Speaker 3: But no, if we're doing the crossover, we will have
- 1:55:40Speaker 3: to acknowledge that we did, of the last two things
- 1:55:42Speaker 3: we had, do crossover for one brief moment as Spidey
- 1:55:46Speaker 3: puts on his new old-timey suit and swings out past
- 1:55:50Speaker 3: the tree in Rockefeller Center where we're about to have
- 1:55:53Speaker 3: our big finale of Hawkeye.
- 1:55:55Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:55:55Speaker 3: So for a minute, they were both there at the
- 1:55:57Speaker 3: same general time in the same neighborhood.
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:56:00Speaker 3: They're probably off having pizza somewhere while he's swinging past
- 1:56:03Speaker 3: the tree and about to destroy it.
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: Spidey, at this point, probably would have loved a slice
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: of pizza at that point. That's what I'm saying.
- 1:56:08Speaker 3: He should hang out with Kate. They can have a team.
- 1:56:12Speaker 3: I'd watch that team up.
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: That'd be awesome, actually. It'd drive people nuts because you've
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: got two people in the MCU who don't know how
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: to shut up. And they're both in the same scene.
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: It's like, oh, my God. It's word vomit.
- 1:56:23Speaker 3: This seems like a great team up to me.
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: A very wordy episode. This will be great.
- 1:56:30Speaker 3: Oh, it is.
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: Yeah, but God, there's just so much coming and so
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: much to look forward to. Every time, I'm always excited
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: about when a new Marvel movie or series comes out,
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: and then I watch it and I love it, but
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: then I'm always like, okay, what's next? Because you know
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: there's more shit coming.
- 1:56:47Speaker 3: I mean, more this than anything, especially just if you
- 1:56:49Speaker 3: take it out of the rest of the stuff, just
- 1:56:50Speaker 3: the Spider-Man thing. Because like I said, it is really
- 1:56:53Speaker 3: interesting where it leaves him, But also, it's totally left
- 1:56:57Speaker 3: open where if they wanted to, real world, I don't
- 1:57:01Speaker 3: think that's what they're going to do, but they could
- 1:57:03Speaker 3: leave everybody behind. We could not come back to MJ.
- 1:57:07Speaker 3: We could not have Ned. Although, it is interesting how
- 1:57:10Speaker 3: much they work in the magic side of Ned that
- 1:57:13Speaker 3: we didn't talk about. That, I feel like, is going
- 1:57:16Speaker 3: to pay off down the line somewhere, too.
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: Yeah, Steven had that moment where he was like, wait,
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: did you open those portals?
- 1:57:22Speaker 3: Okay, that's like.
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: you just give them the and we get.
- 1:57:26Speaker 3: The stories of grandma and like so like there is
- 1:57:29Speaker 3: some sort of magical history with Ned that we're just
- 1:57:31Speaker 3: teasing there so in a if I didn't know better
- 1:57:35Speaker 3: you could just leave those two characters behind and nothing
- 1:57:38Speaker 3: but Peter moving on whole new different stories but I
- 1:57:41Speaker 3: think the fans like both of those characters so much
- 1:57:44Speaker 3: we're gonna bring back you know we're gonna still have
- 1:57:46Speaker 3: the MJ romance I'm sure Ned is so popular I
- 1:57:49Speaker 3: think he's gonna get turned into a superhero so like
- 1:57:52Speaker 3: We're going.
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: To get those. Because, I mean, like I said, Ned
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: does exist in the comics, but he's over in Miles Morales,
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: not Peter Parker. And he has no super abilities or anything.
- 1:58:03Speaker 3: But even here we see the cloak attach itself to
- 1:58:05Speaker 3: him Yeah. When it saves him. So it's like, look
- 1:58:08Speaker 3: at that. Maybe he needs to be.
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: Yeah. It's like, we're setting that up for stuff here.
- 1:58:11Speaker 3: I think so.
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: Uh, but yeah, the, the MJ thing is kind of interesting.
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: Cause it's like. This particular MJ is far different than
- 1:58:19Speaker 1: even the comics version.
- 1:58:20Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: Like, you know, classic MJ, she is an actress. She
- 1:58:23Speaker 1: is a model. She is a very, you know, can-do
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: kind of woman. But at the same time, she's also
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: been kind of the damsel in distress sort of thing, too. Whereas, like,
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: this MJ.
- 1:58:32Speaker 3: She's so loner, she could care less about what's going on.
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:58:35Speaker 3: And, like, only because she cares about Peter as time
- 1:58:38Speaker 3: goes on does she get attached. But other than that,
- 1:58:40Speaker 3: she doesn't really need anybody.
- 1:58:42Speaker 1: Right yeah so this is a very much more self-actualized
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: tougher mj than previously but.
- 1:58:47Speaker 3: Still wearing the necklace at the end of the movie
- 1:58:50Speaker 3: yeah so it is one of those like she knows
- 1:58:53Speaker 3: that that's important even though she doesn't know why even
- 1:58:56Speaker 3: though peter is wiped from her memory she still knows
- 1:58:59Speaker 3: that that's important for support somehow yeah and may come
- 1:59:03Speaker 3: into play in the future too and of.
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: Course means like You know, like you said, if they
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: want to kind of leave Ned and MJ behind for
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: the next one.
- 1:59:09Speaker 3: They could.
- 1:59:10Speaker 1: They could. I mean, this thing is like... Peter's had
- 1:59:12Speaker 1: more than one romantic interest outside of MJ and Gwen.
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: I mean, let's talk Felicia Hardy for a second here.
- 1:59:19Speaker 1: She was kind of glossed over in the third Tobey
- 1:59:21Speaker 1: Maguire Spider-Man, but she is the black cat. She's basically...
- 1:59:26Speaker 1: And the Marvel Universe's version of Catwoman.
- 1:59:28Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:59:28Speaker 1: She's a jewel thief. Yeah. With a penchant for cats.
- 1:59:31Speaker 1: Which is exactly. Yeah. Again, they trade off characters sometimes. Well,
- 1:59:35Speaker 1: and basically, whereas in, like, Catwoman in the Batman comics
- 1:59:39Speaker 1: has no abilities whatsoever. She's just really good jewel thief, athletic,
- 1:59:42Speaker 1: and stuff like that. Black Cat, she literally has nine lives.
- 1:59:47Speaker 1: She has a little bit of magic touch to her. She,
- 1:59:50Speaker 1: there really is no, she has like, you know, agility
- 1:59:52Speaker 1: and she's got claws on her suit so it can
- 1:59:54Speaker 1: help her climb and stuff like that. But she doesn't
- 1:59:57Speaker 1: really have any like full on powers, but like she
- 2:00:00Speaker 1: has died a few times or should have died and
- 2:00:02Speaker 1: she didn't. So she always took around that she actually
- 2:00:04Speaker 1: has nine lives. So, but yeah, she is a very
- 2:00:07Speaker 1: heavy romantic interest for Peter and she's kind of like
- 2:00:09Speaker 1: the bad girl. He wants to save her and keep
- 2:00:12Speaker 1: her from doing stuff, but she's like, no, you should
- 2:00:14Speaker 1: have fun and swing around with me and do fun things.
- 2:00:18Speaker 1: I like you in your tight suit.
- 2:00:21Speaker 3: Again, in a different world, I could see them doing that,
- 2:00:24Speaker 3: but because they're building on so much of what these
- 2:00:27Speaker 3: last three movies have put together, I think people like
- 2:00:30Speaker 3: those characters so much. And they've already, especially the Ned,
- 2:00:33Speaker 3: they've teased so much in this movie that I'm like,
- 2:00:36Speaker 3: why would you put that in there if you're not
- 2:00:38Speaker 3: somewhere down the line going to be like, all right, well,
- 2:00:41Speaker 3: you're the supreme ruler now, so take over.
- 2:00:44Speaker 1: Well, if we know and love Ned already from three films,
- 2:00:48Speaker 1: does he have to pop up in another Spider-Man movie?
- 2:00:50Speaker 1: Can he pop up in somebody else's? That's the thing.
- 2:00:52Speaker 3: I don't think. I think it might be more of
- 2:00:54Speaker 3: like the Doctor Strange universe. Maybe he continues to not
- 2:00:59Speaker 3: know who Peter Parker is. But because Ned is connected
- 2:01:03Speaker 3: to the power somehow, then he gets chosen. So maybe
- 2:01:06Speaker 3: he gets to know Peter on a whole new level
- 2:01:09Speaker 3: as a new character without the past coming back to him.
- 2:01:13Speaker 1: Yeah. And it's kind of interesting, too, because, you know,
- 2:01:15Speaker 1: of course, that spell, obviously, you know, Strange made a
- 2:01:18Speaker 1: reference that's been used before. But with Wong now being
- 2:01:21Speaker 1: Sorcerer Supreme, does the spell work on him?
- 2:01:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:01:25Speaker 1: Does Wong still know?
- 2:01:26Speaker 3: Or I, again, in the crazy, all the stuff I've
- 2:01:29Speaker 3: heard this weekend, they also go through that five or
- 2:01:32Speaker 3: six times and somebody threw out that maybe that extra,
- 2:01:36Speaker 3: because they made like five changes and he said he
- 2:01:39Speaker 3: thought it was six. Was the sixth one actually a
- 2:01:42Speaker 3: plant for Strange so that he left himself where he
- 2:01:45Speaker 3: actually still remembers.
- 2:01:46Speaker 1: Possible. So that's possible.
- 2:01:48Speaker 3: Or if not, I was like, well, you could definitely
- 2:01:49Speaker 3: go to him and be like, Hey, I know what
- 2:01:51Speaker 3: the name of the spell is. Obviously you did it
- 2:01:53Speaker 3: on me. Like, I feel like you could convince strange
- 2:01:55Speaker 3: pretty easily versus, but that was the other thing. And
- 2:01:58Speaker 3: I thought once we got to the end of this,
- 2:02:00Speaker 3: not only is he like lose his two best friends,
- 2:02:03Speaker 3: but like, The Avengers don't know who he is anymore either.
- 2:02:06Speaker 3: They didn't know Peter that well anyway.
- 2:02:09Speaker 1: Well, that's the complicated thing. Yeah, it's that they know Spider-Man.
- 2:02:13Speaker 1: They know Spider-Man. They don't know Peter. Yeah, Spider-Man still
- 2:02:17Speaker 1: saved the world, was with the Avengers, taking out Thanos.
- 2:02:21Speaker 3: But he didn't really hide anything. Like, even like, oh,
- 2:02:23Speaker 3: we're not using our fake names. Like, he was Peter,
- 2:02:25Speaker 3: you know, the whole time with everybody.
- 2:02:27Speaker 1: So, now... Where now all that's gone. Yeah. Yeah. So, basically, any, like...
- 2:02:31Speaker 1: It makes sense. Like, the person he bonded with the
- 2:02:33Speaker 1: most was Tony. Tony's dead. Tony's gone.
- 2:02:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:02:35Speaker 1: So, but.
- 2:02:36Speaker 3: He kind of knew a little bit of Captain America.
- 2:02:38Speaker 1: He's gone.
- 2:02:38Speaker 3: So, it's like, most of his connections, including Happy, now
- 2:02:42Speaker 3: nobody knows who he is.
- 2:02:43Speaker 1: Right. Yeah. So, basically, the last two people who really
- 2:02:45Speaker 1: kind of had any connection with him, Happy, Doctor Strange.
- 2:02:49Speaker 3: Yep, they're all gone. So he, even in the world
- 2:02:51Speaker 3: of the Avengers, is disconnected from everyone. Even though they still,
- 2:02:55Speaker 3: I guess, could call him in as Spider-Man.
- 2:02:58Speaker 1: Sure.
- 2:02:58Speaker 3: But then, how do you get a hold of him
- 2:03:00Speaker 3: if you don't know that he's Peter Parker?
- 2:03:02Speaker 1: Actually, the more interesting thing is if the Avengers start
- 2:03:05Speaker 1: listening to Jonah and the public a little too more,
- 2:03:07Speaker 1: and they think he's a problem.
- 2:03:08Speaker 3: They think he's the evil behind it all.
- 2:03:10Speaker 1: They think he's a problem, and they need to go
- 2:03:11Speaker 1: take him out.
- 2:03:12Speaker 3: And Mysterio was right.
- 2:03:15Speaker 1: I love that when he had the, oh.
- 2:03:19Speaker 1: The actor's name, Cameron Burr, not Burruss, yeah.
- 2:03:23Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, our conspiracy theorist at.
- 2:03:28Speaker 1: School. Yeah, J.B. Smoove and the other, yeah, but it's
- 2:03:32Speaker 1: driving me nuts. Hannibal Burruss, Hannibal Burruss, yeah. but yeah
- 2:03:35Speaker 1: I just love the animals the ones that.
- 2:03:36Speaker 3: He was totally buying into it I was like.
- 2:03:38Speaker 1: Yeah you're gonna get that you're Mysterio man murder you're
- 2:03:42Speaker 1: murder Mysterio's.
- 2:03:43Speaker 3: Right I loved him with the Captain America I think
- 2:03:46Speaker 3: this guy's what did he say he's like I think
- 2:03:49Speaker 3: this guy's wanted by this government or something watch this
- 2:03:52Speaker 3: anyway don't mind he's a war criminal I think this
- 2:03:55Speaker 3: guy's a war criminal but here you go you're supposed
- 2:03:57Speaker 3: to watch this so he was always kind of of
- 2:04:01Speaker 3: that like I'm not really impressed with any of these superheroes.
- 2:04:04Speaker 1: The funny thing is that there was originally a plan
- 2:04:06Speaker 1: that all of the Avengers were going to record a
- 2:04:08Speaker 1: lot of those PSAs, but after the Captain America ones,
- 2:04:12Speaker 1: they're like, no, let's just keep it Cap. It's too funny.
- 2:04:15Speaker 1: It makes the most sense as Cap because he would
- 2:04:18Speaker 1: have done that back.
- 2:04:18Speaker 3: In the day. He was doing essentially that in the
- 2:04:21Speaker 3: olden days.
- 2:04:22Speaker 1: This is just a new version of it. I was glad,
- 2:04:26Speaker 1: at least in the DVD, there was a few more
- 2:04:27Speaker 1: of those scenes. I could have done a whole series.
- 2:04:30Speaker 1: I just like the after credits.
- 2:04:31Speaker 3: If you ever wait... Expect something.
- 2:04:34Speaker 1: It just doesn't pay off.
- 2:04:36Speaker 3: It just doesn't pay off. I was like, that's the
- 2:04:38Speaker 3: best post-credits. You're making fun of your own dumb thing.
- 2:04:42Speaker 3: I know. I know. Oh, man. Well, we've bounced all over,
- 2:04:48Speaker 3: but we kind of hit most of the things.
- 2:04:51Speaker 1: I think we've pretty much got everything.
- 2:04:53Speaker 3: We've tackled a lot of the bigger questions more than anything.
- 2:04:59Speaker 1: It's a lot. Especially when you get some of these
- 2:05:02Speaker 1: movies that you think is small and has a lot
- 2:05:05Speaker 1: bigger implications. And it leaves us a lot more questions
- 2:05:07Speaker 1: about the future. Yeah, definitely by the end of this one.
- 2:05:10Speaker 3: Again, midway in, it just seemed like normal with some
- 2:05:13Speaker 3: extra stuff in it. But still just kind of Spider-Man.
- 2:05:16Speaker 3: But by the time you get to the end there
- 2:05:18Speaker 3: and the big sacrifice and where we leave Peter, it's
- 2:05:21Speaker 3: just like... okay, this is wide open for a whole
- 2:05:23Speaker 3: lot of things and I don't know where they're going
- 2:05:26Speaker 3: and maybe they know where they're going. But either way,
- 2:05:30Speaker 3: it's definitely going to take a turn moving into this
- 2:05:32Speaker 3: next trilogy at least.
- 2:05:33Speaker 1: Yeah, because the Doctor Strange movie coming up in May
- 2:05:37Speaker 1: is obviously going to be doing a lot of the
- 2:05:39Speaker 1: multiverse stuff and kind of dealing with Wanda. The Thor
- 2:05:43Speaker 1: movie that's coming out I think like July or August,
- 2:05:45Speaker 1: that's going to bring back Jane Foster and she's going
- 2:05:48Speaker 1: to get her time with the hammer for a little
- 2:05:50Speaker 1: bit because they've teased that. Um, hopefully they're kind of keeping,
- 2:05:55Speaker 1: I know they've got Christian Bale cast as Gore the
- 2:05:57Speaker 1: God Butcher, which as a newer villain goes, he is awesome. Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:06:02Speaker 1: He basically like essentially take like your most loyal subservient person,
- 2:06:10Speaker 1: like goes to church every Sunday, loves God, everything like that.
- 2:06:13Speaker 1: You know, Jesus is my best friend. And then basically
- 2:06:16Speaker 1: something happens where all of that is torn away. Yeah.
- 2:06:21Speaker 1: All that faith, all that blind devotion is completely stripped away.
- 2:06:24Speaker 1: You see the bullshit, and then you get a weapon
- 2:06:27Speaker 1: strong enough to kill all of these gods. That's our dude.
- 2:06:31Speaker 3: I kind of like this.
- 2:06:32Speaker 1: He's also not quite human as well. Basically, he came
- 2:06:36Speaker 1: from another planet, so he's a humanoid-ish figure, but basically
- 2:06:39Speaker 1: kind of like, his appearance is kind of like the
- 2:06:41Speaker 1: classic gray men kind of aliens with a little more
- 2:06:44Speaker 1: defined features, but gray skin, very kind of pale and
- 2:06:49Speaker 1: small and slight and everything like that. He gets his weapon.
- 2:06:51Speaker 1: He gets some six-pack. And a big black cape. And
- 2:06:57Speaker 1: there you go. But yeah, a very... It's a fairly
- 2:07:02Speaker 1: recent villain. It's like Thor stuff goes. But yeah, to
- 2:07:05Speaker 1: get Christian Bale to play, I'm like, yeah.
- 2:07:06Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. He definitely, when he commits, he's
- 2:07:10Speaker 3: all in. So this will be interesting to see.
- 2:07:12Speaker 1: If it's going to be anywhere near as bright and
- 2:07:15Speaker 1: fun as Ragnarok was with the dichotomy of bringing in
- 2:07:19Speaker 1: Bale as this completely evil guy. Like the worst... Of
- 2:07:23Speaker 1: the Thor villains, they've been fairly weak, except for Hela.
- 2:07:26Speaker 3: Are we still bringing back Wati as far as directing?
- 2:07:30Speaker 1: I think so. I hope so. I think he's amazing. Yeah,
- 2:07:35Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure he's coming back.
- 2:07:36Speaker 3: Again, he has such a light tone, because that's what's
- 2:07:39Speaker 3: amazing that Ragnarok is as fun as it is, because...
- 2:07:42Speaker 3: everybody dies yeah as a story it's horrible for Thor
- 2:07:46Speaker 3: but it's such a fun movie it's weird.
- 2:07:48Speaker 1: I know that was the weirdest thing about the whole
- 2:07:50Speaker 1: thing is that yeah I mean this is the end
- 2:07:51Speaker 1: of the world for the Norse gods.
- 2:07:53Speaker 3: And half of his friends and like a lot of
- 2:07:55Speaker 3: our main characters like it's just killing people right and
- 2:07:58Speaker 3: left yeah and just like destroying the hammer, losing an eye,
- 2:08:03Speaker 3: like everything horrible happens to him.
- 2:08:05Speaker 1: And yet it's a fun movie.
- 2:08:06Speaker 3: It's very strange.
- 2:08:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:08:07Speaker 3: So I do want to see him come back and
- 2:08:10Speaker 3: direct more, but that's a lot to mix together.
- 2:08:12Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:08:12Speaker 1: But I'm pretty sure Love and Thunder, I think Takiti
- 2:08:17Speaker 1: is directing that one too.
- 2:08:17Speaker 3: I thought he was.
- 2:08:18Speaker 1: I thought that's what it was. But yeah, so just
- 2:08:20Speaker 1: with that. And then the Wakanda Forever, that one's the
- 2:08:25Speaker 1: one I'm holding out judgment the most. Because, okay, you've
- 2:08:27Speaker 1: got such a giant gap of no Chadwick Boseman in
- 2:08:31Speaker 1: this film. They're obviously going to address it. The other
- 2:08:34Speaker 1: big issue that basically, okay, we're going to have probably Shuri,
- 2:08:38Speaker 1: obviously is going to be kind of the one to
- 2:08:39Speaker 1: kind of take over sort of things, the younger sister.
- 2:08:41Speaker 1: That's how it happens in the books.
- 2:08:43Speaker 3: I like her so much as a character anyway. Like
- 2:08:45Speaker 3: I kind of want to see that. At the time,
- 2:08:47Speaker 3: I remember saying, also, she could just be the new
- 2:08:50Speaker 3: Iron Man. Like, tech-wise, she's got it down, so you
- 2:08:53Speaker 3: could just put her in the new Iron Man suit, and.
- 2:08:55Speaker 1: Like, I'd be on board with that, too. Insert Ironheart.
- 2:08:58Speaker 1: There's a different character. Not Shuri, a different character, but
- 2:09:03Speaker 1: I got a feeling they may change her origin slightly
- 2:09:05Speaker 1: and make her come from Wakanda.
- 2:09:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:09:06Speaker 1: Because in the comics, she's very tied into Tony Stark, actually,
- 2:09:09Speaker 1: with him dying, but he was her AI, so they
- 2:09:13Speaker 1: may drop that entirely, and she's... Basically, it's essentially a
- 2:09:16Speaker 1: young girl who should be in college and drops out
- 2:09:20Speaker 1: of college to build her own Iron Man suit and
- 2:09:23Speaker 1: become a superhero.
- 2:09:23Speaker 3: Like you do.
- 2:09:24Speaker 1: Who among us hasn't? Now they've kind of established of
- 2:09:29Speaker 1: the top five most brilliant people in the Marvel Universe,
- 2:09:31Speaker 1: she's in that top five. It's pretty nice, too, for
- 2:09:34Speaker 1: current representation in the Marvel Comics. Two of the most
- 2:09:37Speaker 1: brilliant women in the Marvel Universe are A, African American,
- 2:09:41Speaker 1: and B, under the age of 21.
- 2:09:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:09:45Speaker 3: Again, I think they righted so much of that that
- 2:09:47Speaker 3: as much as people, I said this on an old episode,
- 2:09:50Speaker 3: but as much as they badmouth the representation in the beginning,
- 2:09:53Speaker 3: the little over-the-top cheesy women shot in the end of
- 2:09:59Speaker 3: Endgame there, I was like, yeah, but look at what
- 2:10:01Speaker 3: they've presented and what they've made up for in that
- 2:10:04Speaker 3: span of ten years. It's like, we have all these
- 2:10:07Speaker 3: great female characters. That shot was maybe a little over-the-top
- 2:10:11Speaker 3: and cheesy, but The representation of all these characters is
- 2:10:15Speaker 3: not like that's impressive and needs to be there. And like,
- 2:10:19Speaker 3: it's cool. So yeah.
- 2:10:22Speaker 1: You can take that as either way. It's impressive. It
- 2:10:24Speaker 1: may be cheesy to somebody that's a little bit older, but.
- 2:10:28Speaker 1: to a little girl. That's what I said at the time.
- 2:10:30Speaker 1: I was like, all those bad-ass women.
- 2:10:31Speaker 3: For a little girl sitting in that audience. Like it's not, it's,
- 2:10:35Speaker 3: it's amazing. You know, it's like you didn't have that
- 2:10:38Speaker 3: moment as a little girl, 10 years ago, you know,
- 2:10:40Speaker 3: you anytime before you never would have seen it. You
- 2:10:42Speaker 3: were lucky if you saw a wonder woman TV show,
- 2:10:44Speaker 3: you know, other than that, you had nobody to, to
- 2:10:47Speaker 3: represent you. So they really kind of stepped it up.
- 2:10:50Speaker 3: And most of the time it isn't cheesy. Most of
- 2:10:53Speaker 3: the time it isn't, you know, hand fisted in there
- 2:10:55Speaker 3: when we get these smart, powerful women characters. Sure.
- 2:10:58Speaker 1: That's the great thing about the Marvel Universe, as it's
- 2:11:01Speaker 1: always been, is that there have always been smart and
- 2:11:05Speaker 1: powerful and very capable women of all colors. I mean,
- 2:11:08Speaker 1: I was thinking, you know, most of the Marvel Universe
- 2:11:10Speaker 1: has been a lot of white, but then you go
- 2:11:11Speaker 1: over to the X-Men, and it's nothing but minorities. I mean,
- 2:11:15Speaker 1: the fact that they're all mutants is a minority, but
- 2:11:16Speaker 1: then you get into skin colors and religions and ethnicities
- 2:11:20Speaker 1: and everything else. She-Hulk is green.
- 2:11:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:11:22Speaker 1: But she's also a white woman, too.
- 2:11:25Speaker 3: Only some of the time.
- 2:11:28Speaker 1: The fun thing for me being a super fan of
- 2:11:30Speaker 1: all this stuff and then my wife who basically has
- 2:11:33Speaker 1: undergone a lot of training in the 16 years we've
- 2:11:36Speaker 1: been together. She's been forced to watch a lot of stuff.
- 2:11:40Speaker 1: It's been a nice journey for her because she's definitely
- 2:11:42Speaker 1: found things she likes and whatever else. Seeing that scene
- 2:11:46Speaker 1: of the Avengers through her eyes or seeing the first
- 2:11:49Speaker 1: Wonder Woman film and the No Man's Land scene or
- 2:11:52Speaker 1: seeing Captain Marvel. It's like seeing a empowered superhero woman
- 2:11:58Speaker 1: through a woman's eyes, even somebody who's not, you know,
- 2:12:01Speaker 1: who might know a little bit about this stuff, but
- 2:12:03Speaker 1: still is like, that's a powerful moment.
- 2:12:04Speaker 3: It still works. You know, it's still, it's the same
- 2:12:07Speaker 3: geeky thing that all the guys have been doing for years.
- 2:12:09Speaker 3: They finally have a way to do that too. That's
- 2:12:11Speaker 3: like not having to also add in like, okay, but
- 2:12:16Speaker 3: if I was this character where it's a little more
- 2:12:18Speaker 3: one-to-one of like, Oh no, I could be this character.
- 2:12:21Speaker 1: Yeah. I think like the second or third, cause, uh,
- 2:12:24Speaker 1: When Black Panther came out, my wife fell deeply in
- 2:12:27Speaker 1: love with that movie. It's a constant replay in our house.
- 2:12:33Speaker 1: There's three or four Marvel movies that she will watch
- 2:12:36Speaker 1: on constant replay, and that's one of them. Shang-Chi just
- 2:12:38Speaker 1: got added in number four, so there you go. But
- 2:12:42Speaker 1: when we saw Black Panther in the theaters, I remember
- 2:12:44Speaker 1: one time I looked over and I saw two black women,
- 2:12:49Speaker 1: probably at least over the age of 50, and they
- 2:12:52Speaker 1: were just having the best time in that movie. And just,
- 2:12:56Speaker 1: I mean, that was, it was such a great celebration
- 2:12:58Speaker 1: of African American culture and representation and everything else.
- 2:13:02Speaker 3: And just, it also just opens that door to everybody
- 2:13:06Speaker 3: being proud of these heroes. Like I do remember that
- 2:13:09Speaker 3: first time after black Panther came out and not just
- 2:13:13Speaker 3: the fact that, you know, African American kids were inspired
- 2:13:16Speaker 3: by this, but I saw like a week or so
- 2:13:19Speaker 3: after it came out, A dorky white kid wearing a
- 2:13:22Speaker 3: Black Panther t-shirt. And I was like, that changed him.
- 2:13:26Speaker 3: You know, it's like that, he wouldn't have necessarily been
- 2:13:29Speaker 3: inspired by that character without this comic book, without this movie,
- 2:13:33Speaker 3: and maybe sees things from a different perspective that he
- 2:13:36Speaker 3: wouldn't have without it. So it's like, it really does
- 2:13:39Speaker 3: giving us heroes of a different background than you, like
- 2:13:42Speaker 3: gives you something else. to attach yourself to and maybe
- 2:13:46Speaker 3: broadens your, how you look at other people. Like it really,
- 2:13:49Speaker 3: I think it does make differences that people don't realize
- 2:13:53Speaker 3: even in other races and other ages. And, you know,
- 2:13:56Speaker 3: it's like it, the kids coming up, have it a
- 2:13:59Speaker 3: different version now because there's so much more to choose from.
- 2:14:02Speaker 3: And again, it's certainly not equal yet, but there's a
- 2:14:06Speaker 3: lot more representation than we had in the past.
- 2:14:08Speaker 1: Yeah. It was such a tragedy with Chadwick's passing because
- 2:14:12Speaker 1: I mean, that was, you know, I think it was
- 2:14:15Speaker 1: like a Jimmy Fallon or something. One of those talk shows.
- 2:14:18Speaker 1: And they would always do like the... Like a movie
- 2:14:21Speaker 1: premiere or something like that. And all these people come
- 2:14:23Speaker 1: out and go, Oh, what did you think about the movie? Or, oh,
- 2:14:24Speaker 1: you want to say some nice things to Chadwick Boseman?
- 2:14:27Speaker 1: And so they think, oh, they're just saying some nice things.
- 2:14:28Speaker 1: But they thought about the movie or whatever else. And
- 2:14:30Speaker 1: then almost like Chadwick Boseman comes around the corner and
- 2:14:32Speaker 1: people freak out. But just to see all the reactions...
- 2:14:36Speaker 1: Of all the people, it was just like, that was
- 2:14:38Speaker 1: their guy now. That was their hero. Someone to be
- 2:14:41Speaker 1: proud of. He wasn't a thug or a criminal. No,
- 2:14:45Speaker 1: he was a king. He was a hero. I didn't
- 2:14:52Speaker 1: see that. I kind of hoped to see that kind
- 2:14:54Speaker 1: of level of love for Shang-Chi in the Asian community
- 2:14:57Speaker 1: when it came out. Yeah. And the crossover to that.
- 2:15:00Speaker 1: And I don't think we saw that as much.
- 2:15:01Speaker 3: There was a little of that, but I don't think... Again,
- 2:15:03Speaker 3: I don't know if there was as much attachment to
- 2:15:06Speaker 3: that movie. And maybe because of that. Maybe because... Because
- 2:15:09Speaker 3: it is very Asian. Once you get into the whole
- 2:15:13Speaker 3: rest of that movie, it is just nothing but Asian
- 2:15:15Speaker 3: culture and all of the battle at the end. Maybe
- 2:15:20Speaker 3: it's a harder connect for dorky white people that don't
- 2:15:23Speaker 3: know what they're talking about. I don't know.
- 2:15:25Speaker 1: To me, it felt like it was just as much
- 2:15:27Speaker 1: of a proper celebration of Asian culture.
- 2:15:30Speaker 3: I thought it was well done. It just didn't seem
- 2:15:33Speaker 3: like it got as much of a response in that
- 2:15:35Speaker 3: same way.
- 2:15:36Speaker 1: And that may be why. That may be a popularity
- 2:15:39Speaker 1: contest with the media. It's like, you know, on one hand,
- 2:15:42Speaker 1: we want to celebrate everything black culture. On the other hand,
- 2:15:45Speaker 1: when it comes to legal matters, we want to be
- 2:15:47Speaker 1: Jim Crow racist again. So, yeah, I don't know. It
- 2:15:50Speaker 1: may be a little bit of that, too. And, you know,
- 2:15:52Speaker 1: ingrained in society, we don't know it.
- 2:15:53Speaker 3: But again, I hope moving forward... you know now he's
- 2:15:57Speaker 3: just in the mix with everybody else so like again
- 2:16:00Speaker 3: another generation out like you won't even acknowledge that that's
- 2:16:03Speaker 3: a difference in that that it's just another hero in
- 2:16:07Speaker 3: our arsenal you know it's like same thing with black
- 2:16:09Speaker 3: panther same thing with any of the female characters like
- 2:16:12Speaker 3: eventually it won't be the novelty of it like hopefully
- 2:16:15Speaker 3: it will just be the way it is and the
- 2:16:17Speaker 3: way it should be.
- 2:16:18Speaker 1: Yeah, but briefly going back to Black Panther, the new
- 2:16:22Speaker 1: one coming out, I'm concerned about the actress Letitia Wright because,
- 2:16:27Speaker 1: of course, she's recently got online, been very anti-vax and
- 2:16:30Speaker 1: just saying a lot of controversial things.
- 2:16:32Speaker 3: People should stop talking about things.
- 2:16:35Speaker 1: If you are tied up in a multi-million dollar franchise
- 2:16:39Speaker 1: with a starring role shut your damn mouth.
- 2:16:43Speaker 3: With any of these people like i keep thinking that
- 2:16:45Speaker 3: with everybody that gets themselves in trouble and i'm like
- 2:16:47Speaker 3: i don't care that you have your opinion you're welcome
- 2:16:50Speaker 3: to it but don't stop and think a minute like
- 2:16:53Speaker 3: when this is your career even if you think that
- 2:16:56Speaker 3: just shut up or or you're gonna lose it all
- 2:16:59Speaker 3: so i mean that Your call. We've seen many people
- 2:17:02Speaker 3: in recent years completely destroy their career with a tweet.
- 2:17:06Speaker 1: Well, I mean, the girl in The Mandalorian, Gina Garano. Yeah, like,
- 2:17:11Speaker 1: she's gone.
- 2:17:11Speaker 3: Shut up. Like, you should have just shut up.
- 2:17:15Speaker 1: Well, and here's another good case here. Like, musician Eric Clapton.
- 2:17:18Speaker 1: Of course, he's been around since the 60s and whatnot.
- 2:17:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:17:23Speaker 1: We've always seen like little glimpses of maybe some racist
- 2:17:26Speaker 1: stuff here or cultural appropriation or whatnot but then like
- 2:17:29Speaker 1: in recent years like he has been blatant with his
- 2:17:33Speaker 1: racism and he released a fucking anti-vax song last.
- 2:17:36Speaker 3: Year don't yeah i don't think i knew any of
- 2:17:39Speaker 3: that stuff leading up to it which now like i
- 2:17:41Speaker 3: haven't paid that much attention to him lately but now
- 2:17:43Speaker 3: i really don't want to and i knew his weird
- 2:17:45Speaker 3: anti-vax thing so that's Why now, at the end of
- 2:17:49Speaker 3: your career, decide to publicly be an asshole?
- 2:17:53Speaker 1: Well, I think what it is, of course, the age
- 2:17:55Speaker 1: of video is starting to catch up to him.
- 2:17:56Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 2:17:57Speaker 1: Because he's made a lot of, like, racist statements in
- 2:17:59Speaker 1: the past, and, like, into, like, crowds of people. You know,
- 2:18:03Speaker 1: and he was going on about... I forget what it was.
- 2:18:06Speaker 1: There was, like, some... political person he was backing or whatnot,
- 2:18:10Speaker 1: and he was just making all these racist statements about that.
- 2:18:12Speaker 1: I was like, dude, you've built your entire career off
- 2:18:14Speaker 1: stealing music from black people. You think you're fucking Robert Johnson, goddammit.
- 2:18:20Speaker 3: And you're gonna go and, like, bite the hand that
- 2:18:23Speaker 3: feeds you?
- 2:18:24Speaker 1: It's like, you stupid bastard.
- 2:18:26Speaker 3: People. They don't make any damn sense.
- 2:18:29Speaker 1: Celebrities.
- 2:18:30Speaker 3: So....
- 2:18:33Speaker 1: I'm going on my rant here, but yes.
- 2:18:35Speaker 5: Ugh.
- 2:18:36Speaker 1: But yeah, so I'm concerned about the future of the
- 2:18:38Speaker 1: Black Panther franchise because we got our great lead and
- 2:18:41Speaker 1: then he passes away from cancer. Fuck cancer.
- 2:18:43Speaker 3: Yeah. That's the real tragedy of it is he was
- 2:18:46Speaker 3: right at the pinnacle of becoming, you know, a huge
- 2:18:51Speaker 3: leading man. And like, yeah, we lost, you know, not
- 2:18:54Speaker 3: just the Marvel part of it, just like the whole
- 2:18:57Speaker 3: rest of his career that it.
- 2:18:58Speaker 1: Could have been. Yeah. Apparently a great guy too.
- 2:19:01Speaker 3: Oh yeah. Like nobody has anything to say about him
- 2:19:04Speaker 3: that isn't amazing.
- 2:19:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:19:06Speaker 3: Of course, that's usually who those things happen to.
- 2:19:09Speaker 1: And ironically, he played James Brown, who everybody's got all
- 2:19:12Speaker 1: kinds of bad shit to say about.
- 2:19:13Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. But still, iconic in his own way.
- 2:19:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I've listened to James music to this
- 2:19:18Speaker 1: very day, but yeah, he's a son of a bitch.
- 2:19:21Speaker 3: He was a weird character.
- 2:19:22Speaker 1: Yeah. Drugs are a bad thing, kids.
- 2:19:24Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:19:26Speaker 1: But yeah, so I'm very curious to see how the
- 2:19:28Speaker 1: next Black Panther film will go and if Letitia Wright
- 2:19:31Speaker 1: will make it to part three.
- 2:19:32Speaker 3: I guess we will see. Much like all of you.
- 2:19:36Speaker 3: no telling where we're going in this marvel universe but
- 2:19:40Speaker 3: only up there's a lot coming at.
- 2:19:42Speaker 1: Us so and it's only gonna get weirder.
- 2:19:44Speaker 3: Folks all right we've covered a lot of ground so
- 2:19:50Speaker 3: i'm glad we got to address this movie and get
- 2:19:53Speaker 3: back into our our comic book thing otherwise that about
- 2:19:58Speaker 3: does it we'll return next time same geek feed thanks
- 2:20:01Speaker 3: for listening gtfn.
- 2:20:02Speaker 2: Folks I'm not gonna stand here and wait I'll hold
- 2:20:46Speaker 2: on to the wings of the eagles Watch as they
- 2:20:49Speaker 2: all fly away Someone told me that love will.
- 2:20:55Speaker 3: All save us How can that be?
- 2:20:56Speaker 2: Look what love gave us.
- 2:21:08Speaker 3: Bye. Bye.
- 2:21:38Speaker 2: Now that the world is an ending This love that
- 2:21:44Speaker 2: I'm sending to you It isn't above all a hero
- 2:21:53Speaker 2: That's what I fear it won't do And they say
- 2:21:59Speaker 2: that a hero can save us from nothing.
- 2:22:21Speaker 3: I'm sure we can find more comic books to discuss
- 2:22:42Speaker 3: in the future. there are just a few of.
- 2:22:45Speaker 1: Them out there yeah I only read about 25 titles
- 2:22:49Speaker 1: a month so.
- 2:22:51Speaker 3: I don't know how you can do that and get
- 2:22:52Speaker 3: anything else accomplished I can't do anything anymore.
- 2:22:54Speaker 1: Well I mean the funny thing is like I buy
- 2:22:56Speaker 1: my new books on Wednesday and the ones I want
- 2:22:59Speaker 1: to talk about on my show by Friday so it
- 2:23:01Speaker 1: usually is like depending on that week if some good
- 2:23:05Speaker 1: stuff comes out I'm talking five to seven books so
- 2:23:08Speaker 1: yeah I just when you've been reading long enough man
- 2:23:11Speaker 1: you just like Just fly right through it. You pause
- 2:23:14Speaker 1: where you need to. You pause on a splash page
- 2:23:16Speaker 1: whenever a poignant moment happens. But sometimes you just fly
- 2:23:19Speaker 1: right through the shit.
- 2:23:20Speaker 3: Thankfully, illiteracy has helped me focus on audio. I can
- 2:23:26Speaker 3: hear that. I don't have to read a damn thing.
- 2:23:28Speaker 1: I'm going to be that Burgess Meredith guy in the
- 2:23:31Speaker 1: Twilight Zone episode. If my eyesight goes.
- 2:23:34Speaker 3: I am so.
- 2:23:36Speaker 1: I mean, I can't play video games. I can't read.
- 2:23:40Speaker 1: I can hear movies. Basically, all I have is music.
- 2:23:42Speaker 3: Braille comic books, do they make them?
- 2:23:45Speaker 1: You know, I.
- 2:23:46Speaker 3: It's going to be hard to pull off.
- 2:23:48Speaker 1: Well, they could do the script part.
- 2:23:50Speaker 3: Yeah, you lose the visuals.
- 2:23:53Speaker 1: Well, they could just do an exposition, you know.
- 2:23:56Speaker 3: Like that audio description that's on all the DVDs now.
- 2:24:00Speaker 3: The first time that accidentally came on, I was just like,
- 2:24:04Speaker 3: what are we doing? Why are you describing the explosions
- 2:24:08Speaker 3: to me?
- 2:24:08Speaker 1: It's even weirder when you hear it on Pornhub.
- 2:24:13Speaker 3: I'm going to leave that alone. I'm going to leave
- 2:24:16Speaker 3: that alone and go back to my super descriptive explosions
- 2:24:20Speaker 3: and flying characters being told to me by a very
- 2:24:25Speaker 3: calm voice.
- 2:24:29Speaker 1: My spider sense tells me that a miss is as
- 2:24:32Speaker 1: good as a mile. Don't miss your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man
- 2:24:36Speaker 1: in action next week.
