Transcript
- 0:05You're on a walking talk of money Money USA TODAY.
- 0:09We're joined by Stefano Vucina, CEO and founder of The Athlete.
- 0:13Stefano, please introduce yourself to roll.
- 0:18And Yahoo is a business. And I'm second.
- 0:21I'm the founder and CEO of the company.
- 0:23Yeah, they're not making that so much of A what's in Europe.
- 0:28They need to lend it back. What's the data payment?
- 0:33OK. Perfect.
- 0:36How would you describe the current state like with the
- 0:39world? Like I would say you're making
- 0:42this single teenager states we have probably one or two years
- 0:47of maturity, but we can see this with potential of it, the
- 0:51energy, the talent if we learn the Orisha Webber in one or two
- 0:55years and have maybe given me DI working by the SLA.
- 0:59So yeah, teenager. I think it's a method.
- 1:02I think the first stage of open banking was very much about
- 1:07accessibility into data. What's driving the shift of
- 1:11additional value added services in open banking?
- 1:14Now it's got high by banking. It's been a little bit slower in
- 1:16the adoption stage, but what do you see if those core kind of
- 1:19biased products in the next deadly back in this teenage
- 1:22state talk about I think the. Potential of making influence
- 1:25when data payment will work together and data will inform
- 1:32payment and help the observation of it, but then payment will
- 1:37enrich data as well. As you mentioned in Dreaming
- 1:39Media coming next year is a total mice because this is when
- 1:44really open banking is in a payment perspective.
- 1:47You see eventually people can file with their debit.
- 1:52So I think the fusion of data entertainment allow us to see
- 1:57the 2 convention. Yeah.
- 1:59No, I think that's a fairpoint. Then in terms of some of those
- 2:03next steps to be around the payment side of things, we've
- 2:06talked the show a lot around the consumer protection that covers
- 2:10kind of state you think we're in as far as are we going to have
- 2:13featuring a protection on pay by bank at some point, Who would be
- 2:16responsible for covering that? Is that still one of the biggest
- 2:18hurdles on the face when you're comparing pay by bank card
- 2:21payments? It's definitely one of the
- 2:24hurdle, but not the fact we need it or not.
- 2:27Is that what level is what price?
- 2:31And ultimately if you want to have something which is
- 2:35different, you need to have also different level as the abduction
- 2:40of the different price. But you cannot have a like for
- 2:43like otherwise it's going on that potentially right And there
- 2:46will be not a lot of incentives for emergency.
- 2:50I think nobody is cute when needed.
- 2:54It's just making sure the ecosystem agree on how much of
- 2:57it is needed and how much is going it's going to be, I think.
- 3:01One of the other pushbacks we get when you compare it to cards
- 3:03is the loyalty programs. The points that you get with
- 3:07with card scheme programs is that another gap that we've got
- 3:10to pay by bank at the moment. I don't, I don't think it's a
- 3:13cap because you have the data, you can leverage the data to our
- 3:20wired schemes. It's just again pressure of
- 3:24doing things differently and now we cleaning the eye that will
- 3:28come. You can come together and get
- 3:31data in the reaching payment and then especially automatically
- 3:37apply the discount amount of schemes when you have to.
- 3:41It's not. Something.
- 3:42That merchants will build themselves though?
- 3:43Or do you think that's something that like by the side itself,
- 3:46maybe there's a bunch of products?
- 3:50More likely to be companies focusing on that all we have to
- 3:53merchant but that needed COVID magazine layer not match of
- 3:57success. So someone in the middle it was
- 3:59so because ultimatum is such a huge space with a lot of level
- 4:03of sophistication and application and your story in
- 4:07real bank. So I don't think the banking
- 4:10play handy. Banking infrastructure as well
- 4:15is a loyalty scheme. They're planning to pay two
- 4:17different company. Exactly your company already.
- 4:22Doing it, but why not then span you?
- 4:25Fair enough. And then the other big question
- 4:28I wanted to pick your brain on, I'm very lucky to have you on
- 4:30the show today. Regulation and innovation,
- 4:32obviously the two kind of going hand in hand if now do you think
- 4:37that the regulators in various markets are going to be the ones
- 4:40that are then leading into further innovation in the bank.
- 4:44Every country has seen this mix in a different way.
- 4:49Some country like UK and Europe, regulation was the foundation
- 4:54and now obviously like the system we come together with the
- 4:58premium aspect. In other countries like Brazil
- 5:01or India, we've seen them today to do so much that a lot of
- 5:06innovation already came to them. In the US it's still difficult
- 5:09to understand what's going to happen.
- 5:10So I think it's a balance that the country is getting it
- 5:13differently. There are 80 countries expanding
- 5:15into open banking. So I think everybody will have
- 5:18that on the Nixon match. And to talk about Yakli, then
- 5:22how are you guys really helping banks and fintechs to drive
- 5:26innovation, local banking? We are trying to be both tool
- 5:29and cool and that our customer need to be their own solution
- 5:33always. Why they go behind the scene
- 5:35trying to focus on giving them the best infrastructure
- 5:38ultimately is their product. And as the market evolves, the
- 5:41market says the market is telling us what they need,
- 5:45right. So we listen quite a lot to our
- 5:48customer. We try to respond quickly and
- 5:50these are another tool with this translation.
- 5:54Ultimately, we have been done in water.
- 5:58Meeting our customer names may need the next week.
- 6:00We'll be late. We're obviously in America, it's
- 6:03my USA, the USA market. You guys obviously had the the
- 6:09announcement with Google recently.
- 6:11Congratulations to go online that partnership why is running
- 6:152020 second bulls that you guys can do particularly the US my.
- 6:19Super Everything learns what's happening here how the banking
- 6:24is folding with the last two months in particular that's been
- 6:27out in turn. So for us like for anything in
- 6:32the world ultimately us will be a destination at some point is
- 6:36when now you're going to do it. And so we're always here trying
- 6:40to understand when it's the night time starts and meeting
- 6:44partners. We have lots of customers
- 6:46channel international first customer into IT company and oh,
- 6:52there's three things I'm now saying is always need to come
- 6:56here. Fantastic.
- 6:58And we have one final question. Thanks for joining us in the
- 7:00show today. But there's a little section we
- 7:03asked every chat that we have with the guest night.
- 7:06So we ask you to nominate something.
- 7:08It would be from fintech. We just for business in general
- 7:13political 9 of this data. I guess naming that could use
- 7:20nothing back I think. Should we talk to?
- 7:27You can also expect something to be adopted from the CBRP every
- 7:32time. It's difficult if you have to
- 7:33explain more exciting and maybe close.
- 7:51We need to get back together a room to kind of agree what the
- 7:54new names are gonna be. Potentially understand that and
- 8:05can actually so maybe 2 hours you as well, sorry.
- 8:12So yeah, I think the remaining convention will be likely
- 8:15something on. The I don't think that's the
- 8:17last time we've had that nominated, but thanks for
- 8:19joining us on the show today. Enjoy the rest of 2020 USA.
- 8:22So much for telling me.
