- 0:52Speaker 2: Today, y'all, we are joined by Daxon bloom Quiz from
- 0:56Speaker 2: Finding Mister Christmas Gone Entirely Too Soon spoiler alert. He's
- 1:01Speaker 2: here to talk about his experience on the reality show
- 1:03Speaker 2: that Wendy and I are absolutely loving. Welcome to the show,
- 1:08Speaker 2: dax Dan, Hi, how are you good? Thank you for
- 1:12Speaker 2: being here. We have to start by asking you did
- 1:15Speaker 2: leave the show Entirely too Soon due to an eye injury.
- 1:18Speaker 2: We need to know how you're doing now.
- 1:20Speaker 1: You know, I'm good, I have been. I'm in a
- 1:24Speaker 1: really good place with it. I still have a while
- 1:27Speaker 1: to go with my recovery, which is wild I had
- 1:29Speaker 1: a retina attachment. I don't know if you haven't read,
- 1:32Speaker 1: if the listeners haven't read anything yet, a retina attached.
- 1:36Speaker 1: It happened at a very young It doesn't usually happen
- 1:39Speaker 1: to people in their thirties, But the more I talk
- 1:42Speaker 1: to people that it has been happening, like it's a
- 1:45Speaker 1: weird it's this weird fluke thing that just happened to
- 1:47Speaker 1: my eye. So I had two eye surgeries and know
- 1:51Speaker 1: I have two more to do in twenty twenty five.
- 1:55Speaker 1: So I'm just kind of a waiting for my insurance
- 1:58Speaker 1: to renew because I what, my insurance didn't cover surgeries,
- 2:01Speaker 1: which is wild, real wild, And don't get me started
- 2:08Speaker 1: on that. I could do a whole hour on that.
- 2:10Speaker 1: How that because I was covered, but just didn't have
- 2:15Speaker 1: the in surgery coverage, which is weird. And then in
- 2:19Speaker 1: twenty twenty five, I'll be covered under a different insurance
- 2:22Speaker 1: and we'll have the oil in my eye that will
- 2:25Speaker 1: be removed, and then I have to have cataract surgery,
- 2:28Speaker 1: which is just crazy to me because of all the
- 2:30Speaker 1: surgeries caused cataracts, and the eye drops I'm taking cause cataracts.
- 2:34Speaker 1: So it's like here we are, We're in it to
- 2:37Speaker 1: in it. I'm healthy, I'm happy, and I will always
- 2:40Speaker 1: say I have the best support group ever. My family,
- 2:44Speaker 1: my parents have been great, my friends have been great.
- 2:47Speaker 1: So I'm in a really good place emotionally. But yeah,
- 2:51Speaker 1: I'm getting through it.
- 2:53Speaker 2: I mean that you're in such good spirits about it.
- 2:55Speaker 2: But it's when you talk about recovery that entails four
- 2:59Speaker 2: total surgery, that's wild.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Yeah, it was. It's you know, some days I look
- 3:05Speaker 1: back at him like, wow, this is crazy. It's frustrating.
- 3:08Speaker 1: I was having a blast on the show, like probably.
- 3:12Speaker 1: I went through the strike, the actors strike here in
- 3:15Speaker 1: LA and I was just kind of really miserable, like
- 3:19Speaker 1: being like, what am I going to do with my life?
- 3:21Speaker 1: Am I going to keep going in the direction of TV?
- 3:25Speaker 1: It just seems like it's everything's really hard. And then
- 3:27Speaker 1: I got on this show and everything got really fun again,
- 3:30Speaker 1: and I fell in love with acting. I fell in
- 3:32Speaker 1: love with TV again. I fell in love. I just
- 3:36Speaker 1: I was just having the best time, and then the
- 3:38Speaker 1: universe was like, you know, you're not ready yet. I
- 3:41Speaker 1: don't know what it was doing, but I yeah, So
- 3:43Speaker 1: it was really sad to just not even get to
- 3:47Speaker 1: finish out something that I was enjoying. But there's something,
- 3:51Speaker 1: something better is coming my way. I keep telling myself,
- 3:53Speaker 1: it has to, it has to.
- 3:55Speaker 2: So I love that perspective. I do want to talk
- 3:58Speaker 2: about finding mister Christmas with how you ended up on
- 4:01Speaker 2: the show in the first place.
- 4:03Speaker 1: I kind of alluded to a little bit that Actors
- 4:05Speaker 1: Strike kind of put me out of work for a while,
- 4:08Speaker 1: and I was approached to be on the show and
- 4:13Speaker 1: was like, oh, I've always wanted to do a reality
- 4:15Speaker 1: show and Hallmark is like gonna keep me, and like,
- 4:20Speaker 1: I don't think Hallmark's gonna like try to make anybody
- 4:22Speaker 1: look bad. So I was like, I'll jump in, let's
- 4:24Speaker 1: do it. Let's do it. And you know, I would
- 4:28Speaker 1: always love my own I would always love my own
- 4:30Speaker 1: TV show, I love my own movie. So I was like,
- 4:32Speaker 1: what a what a good opportunity. And I was hoping
- 4:36Speaker 1: and that I was going to be the only gay one,
- 4:38Speaker 1: so I had something different than the other boys, and yeah,
- 4:42Speaker 1: and then I jumped right in. So it was it
- 4:45Speaker 1: was that easy for me. I didn't have to do
- 4:48Speaker 1: I haven't talked to a lot of the other boys'
- 4:49Speaker 1: audition process, but my audition process wasn't too terrible, and
- 4:52Speaker 1: I think it was just meant to be. I was
- 4:55Speaker 1: supposed to be on the show.
- 4:56Speaker 5: Were you like when they presented it to you, like,
- 4:58Speaker 5: were you like Hallmarks do a reality show? Like what
- 5:02Speaker 5: is that all about? And how long ago was that?
- 5:05Speaker 1: Well? How first they didn't present it as Hallmark. It
- 5:08Speaker 1: was just like a major network is doing a reality
- 5:10Speaker 1: show for a for a family, like a family network
- 5:13Speaker 1: is doing a reality show and the and you're and
- 5:16Speaker 1: it's to win a like to win a movie or
- 5:19Speaker 1: like to be the star in a movie, And so
- 5:21Speaker 1: I like looked in that and that I think they
- 5:24Speaker 1: they start vetting or the audition process. Mine was late.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I think I was a late I think I was
- 5:30Speaker 1: one of the last ones they brought in but February March,
- 5:34Speaker 1: and then you have to do a lot of things.
- 5:37Speaker 1: The things that didn't know about reality shows is they
- 5:39Speaker 1: they do they do a heavy, heavy background check just
- 5:43Speaker 1: to make sure you are mentally capable of this. You
- 5:47Speaker 1: go through you know, you've talked to a therapist and
- 5:52Speaker 1: all of that, so they really do make sure that
- 5:55Speaker 1: you are capable to be able to handle the cameras
- 6:00Speaker 1: because you're you're in front of a lot of cameras,
- 6:02Speaker 1: a lot, and you can't handle that, then they don't
- 6:05Speaker 1: want your safety or your mental health to be ruined from.
- 6:08Speaker 5: This, sure rightly? So yeah, I mean that would be terrible.
- 6:12Speaker 5: And and did they film this earlier this year?
- 6:18Speaker 1: I believe they. I believe I can tell you they filmed.
- 6:21Speaker 1: We filmed this, yeah, this year and this summer was
- 6:26Speaker 1: or in Utah.
- 6:27Speaker 2: That was one of my questions because as I'm watching
- 6:29Speaker 2: the show, like we know a lot of Hallmark movies
- 6:30Speaker 2: are filmed in the summer, and obviously people are sweating
- 6:32Speaker 2: in their heavy coats, and so you guys are dressed
- 6:35Speaker 2: like stars of Hallmark Christmas movies throughout, like you're in flannels,
- 6:41Speaker 2: you're in sweaters, and I wore you a little.
- 6:43Speaker 4: Hot outside in some of those scenes.
- 6:47Speaker 1: What was you know? I didn't obviously I didn't get
- 6:50Speaker 1: to do as many scenes as I wanted. The weather
- 6:53Speaker 1: was cool, like it mean, it wasn't hot. I wouldn't.
- 6:56Speaker 1: I wouldn't say it was really sweating. I do have
- 6:59Speaker 1: a fun a funny story. I was more hot inside
- 7:02Speaker 1: than I was outside, like every time, like I would TMI,
- 7:07Speaker 1: but like my first shirt in the in this in
- 7:10Speaker 1: in episode one is like orange and you could see
- 7:14Speaker 1: the sweat stains. So between like on lunch, if we
- 7:17Speaker 1: got lunch, or like when they were like setting up
- 7:20Speaker 1: for the next segment or getting ready for the game,
- 7:22Speaker 1: I would take off my orange shirt just because I
- 7:24Speaker 1: was like, I will not have pit stains on. That
- 7:28Speaker 1: is not gonna be my claim to fame. Pit stains
- 7:31Speaker 1: will not. So the house was warm, but I think
- 7:34Speaker 1: just in general, a Christmas house would be warm.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Like sure the buyer and all of that baking.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Cozy inside outside felt felt good. I mean the photo shoot,
- 7:46Speaker 1: we definitely weren't wearing weren't wearing it not much. I
- 7:52Speaker 1: was like, I think I was the most clothed out
- 7:54Speaker 1: of the whole group, and we were. It was fine.
- 7:56Speaker 1: It was like perfect weather. It was like the weather
- 7:58Speaker 1: everybody wants.
- 8:00Speaker 2: So, now, were you a Hallmark watcher before getting this
- 8:05Speaker 2: or were you like I had a cram all these
- 8:06Speaker 2: Hallmark movies before so I know what I'm bringing.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Yes, and no watch we watched a Christmas during like
- 8:14Speaker 1: my family, it's always on. And that's a real answer.
- 8:18Speaker 1: I'm not like giving you like a Hallmark you fake
- 8:21Speaker 1: or we watched with my sisters. My sister's really big
- 8:24Speaker 1: into Christmas and the Hallmark channel is always on during Christmas.
- 8:27Speaker 1: How I like sat down and like watched a ton
- 8:30Speaker 1: of like know which movie I was watching? Not until
- 8:33Speaker 1: I was on the show. And then we had some
- 8:34Speaker 1: days where I crammed. Definitely, I thought there was gonna
- 8:38Speaker 1: be a trivia a trivia like first first episode, I
- 8:41Speaker 1: was like ready for the challenge, but then it happened.
- 8:45Speaker 1: I still don't know, you know, maybe maybe the trivia
- 8:47Speaker 1: challenge will come a little later. Yeah, maybe I don't
- 8:51Speaker 1: know anything. So I'm a little I'm in the dark
- 8:54Speaker 1: withp with it as well.
- 8:55Speaker 3: So I have a question.
- 8:56Speaker 5: In that first episode, we see you in a challenge
- 9:00Speaker 5: with Aaron Cahill, So did you not know who she
- 9:03Speaker 5: was prior to her coming in I'll put You on
- 9:07Speaker 5: the Spot Royalty.
- 9:10Speaker 4: She's only in three movies right now.
- 9:13Speaker 1: She was so fun to be, so fun to do
- 9:16Speaker 1: a scene with. I had the best time with her.
- 9:21Speaker 1: You know what's crazy is that like she was, she
- 9:24Speaker 1: was a superstar. She made you feel really comfortable in
- 9:26Speaker 1: those That's not like what they did to us in
- 9:29Speaker 1: that first thing. A lot of those boys. I kept
- 9:31Speaker 1: my acting. If you watched episode one, I don't talk
- 9:35Speaker 1: about my The audience knows that I've done acting, but
- 9:38Speaker 1: none of the boys knew anything about my history as
- 9:40Speaker 1: an actor. I kept it quiet because I was like,
- 9:43Speaker 1: my strategy was to slowly let them know throughout the series.
- 9:48Speaker 1: But so when I left, none of them still new
- 9:51Speaker 1: that I had any of any of my acting training.
- 9:53Speaker 1: None of them knew I had been on Broadway. I
- 9:56Speaker 1: just had been biting my tongue and so that doesn't
- 10:00Speaker 1: When you met erin, she she was like, she made
- 10:03Speaker 1: it you feel really comfortable. But I was like, this,
- 10:05Speaker 1: I want to be like boys. This is not like
- 10:07Speaker 1: we are. This is hard. Like what we did in
- 10:09Speaker 1: that first challenge was like scary and hard. And they
- 10:14Speaker 1: definitely they're definitely were trying to get some up. They
- 10:17Speaker 1: were trying to get us to react like some of
- 10:19Speaker 1: the reactions. For sure.
- 10:21Speaker 4: I mean it was ray.
- 10:23Speaker 5: This is one of my favorite challenges that we've seen
- 10:26Speaker 5: so far. And hard because you are working with a
- 10:30Speaker 5: seasoned actor and then and then your counterpart, your other
- 10:34Speaker 5: like competitor in the scene, and I imagine, like, I'm
- 10:38Speaker 5: not an actor, I don't know anything, so like I imagine
- 10:41Speaker 5: it's really hard to try to make yourself be noticed
- 10:45Speaker 5: when you're like working with two other people.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Well, and I approached that scene well at first, I
- 10:51Speaker 1: didn't want to be paired with Hayden. And I don't
- 10:53Speaker 1: know if that ever made it on air, because I
- 10:55Speaker 1: was like, I don't, like, I don't want to be
- 10:58Speaker 1: paired with Hayden because we both have blonde hair and
- 11:00Speaker 1: were the only two blondes. And I know he's like
- 11:04Speaker 1: he's very charming and he's really likable, and I'm not
- 11:08Speaker 1: scared about being charming and likable, but like the first
- 11:11Speaker 1: the last person I wanted to be with, Like I
- 11:13Speaker 1: wanted to outshine some of the other guys, Like I
- 11:16Speaker 1: was like competing, like I came off I was I
- 11:19Speaker 1: was trying to be like the villain of the season,
- 11:21Speaker 1: let's be real, and I was ready. I was ready
- 11:28Speaker 1: for that villain edit. And you know, I think the
- 11:30Speaker 1: best thing that happened to me doing this whole thing
- 11:33Speaker 1: was being paired with Hayden. I'm so grateful and I
- 11:36Speaker 1: wanted after it took me like three minutes, and I
- 11:39Speaker 1: think I learned a lesson being like I want us
- 11:41Speaker 1: both to win, and he's so nice and so easy
- 11:45Speaker 1: to work with, and we just connected so well that
- 11:48Speaker 1: I didn't care. You know, I still think that my wrap,
- 11:53Speaker 1: my throw around the bow and pulling her in was
- 11:57Speaker 1: was huter than Hayden's toss behind his shoulder. But Aaron
- 12:01Speaker 1: just was mesmerized by those blue eyes. So I can't
- 12:04Speaker 1: I can't get mad at her, but I still think
- 12:08Speaker 1: why throw around and pull in was way better than
- 12:11Speaker 1: Hayden's toss. So you know, I'll and I even tell
- 12:14Speaker 1: him that in person, so I'll come for you, Hayden.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Yeah, in terms of connecting with the actress, yeah, that
- 12:20Speaker 2: challenge is hard because I think it goes against probably
- 12:23Speaker 2: what you're told to do as an actor, because you
- 12:25Speaker 2: were trying to pull focus away from the other actor
- 12:28Speaker 2: instead of like bring everyone into this scene. And so
- 12:32Speaker 2: uh it stressed me out as a like a watcher
- 12:35Speaker 2: and a rule follower. I'm like, well, it's almost like
- 12:38Speaker 2: means the wrong word, right, but it's almost like, well no,
- 12:40Speaker 2: look at me, like forget that other guy over there.
- 12:44Speaker 1: I think our goal going in it because I knew
- 12:46Speaker 1: that the other boys were like me, me, me, I
- 12:49Speaker 1: think our goal once we sat down was how do
- 12:52Speaker 1: we make each other look good? And how do we
- 12:54Speaker 1: make Aaron look good? So how do we look good
- 12:56Speaker 1: as a team, and therefore the scene will look really
- 12:59Speaker 1: good and then you know, one of us has to win.
- 13:02Speaker 1: I swore they were going to have give a double
- 13:04Speaker 1: win the first day, like they should have. You know,
- 13:08Speaker 1: I'll tell I think they should have come for a
- 13:09Speaker 1: double win. But because we worked so well as a team,
- 13:12Speaker 1: we were so grounded. I think you can see it,
- 13:15Speaker 1: and we were a clear win and I knew. I
- 13:19Speaker 1: knew it watching the others because they were really nervous,
- 13:22Speaker 1: and Hayden and I just like wanted each other to
- 13:25Speaker 1: do well, and we wanted Aaron to do well. And
- 13:28Speaker 1: she's beautiful and she was so easy in such a
- 13:30Speaker 1: good sport. We also were probably the most seasoned actors
- 13:34Speaker 1: in that at that time on the show, so we
- 13:37Speaker 1: both have had a lot of acting experience and I
- 13:40Speaker 1: think that helped.
- 13:41Speaker 4: A lot well.
- 13:42Speaker 5: Speaking of your experience, you did briefly mentioned a little
- 13:46Speaker 5: bit earlier about your time on Broadway. I mean, we
- 13:50Speaker 5: hear a lot on the show. Elijah has experience in Hamilton,
- 13:55Speaker 5: but you yourself have some experience. You want to tell
- 13:59Speaker 5: our listener, where is what what your resume is like?
- 14:02Speaker 1: So I was in the I was in the Book
- 14:03Speaker 1: of Mormon on Broadway. I booked it when I was
- 14:05Speaker 1: twenty four, and then I worked I think the last
- 14:08Speaker 1: show I did I was thirty. I'm pretty sure it
- 14:11Speaker 1: gets a little melty in there the last couple of years.
- 14:15Speaker 1: But yeah, So I booked the as a I booked
- 14:19Speaker 1: with the original cast. I wasn't an original cast member.
- 14:23Speaker 1: I came in about a year later and worked with
- 14:26Speaker 1: nine ninety five percent of the original cast on Broadway.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Then I went on tour and played Elder McKinley, and
- 14:33Speaker 1: then I went back to Broadway to understudy Elder McKinley.
- 14:35Speaker 1: So I went back and forth on the Broadway and
- 14:38Speaker 1: national tour circuit of the show. So I had a
- 14:40Speaker 1: lot of experience in terms of that show and just
- 14:43Speaker 1: a lot of stage time. That was all I did
- 14:45Speaker 1: in my twenties was that show, and so I I
- 14:50Speaker 1: put a lot of like I was started as a
- 14:52Speaker 1: swing So a lot of just being thrown into something
- 14:54Speaker 1: like is like makes you ready for like competition shows galore,
- 14:59Speaker 1: Because just being thrown in and just being like all right,
- 15:00Speaker 1: I got to figure it out and I'll make it work,
- 15:02Speaker 1: and I'll be stressed, but I'll make it work. So
- 15:05Speaker 1: I think Mormon was a big reason why I did
- 15:08Speaker 1: such a good job in like how quickly I could
- 15:10Speaker 1: be thrown into something. And then yeah, and then I
- 15:14Speaker 1: didn't tell the cat. I didn't tell the boys because
- 15:16Speaker 1: I wanted Elijah like it's kind of like he that
- 15:19Speaker 1: was his thing, and I was like, let him have
- 15:21Speaker 1: his thing for a little bit. I'll pop into this.
- 15:25Speaker 4: You were going for that villain edit, I was.
- 15:28Speaker 1: I was trying so hard. I was trying so hard.
- 15:31Speaker 1: I was like I was biting my tongue, you know,
- 15:34Speaker 1: because you hear it and you're like, oh, but I
- 15:37Speaker 1: want to tell everybody I was, and I was like,
- 15:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna be patient, Ia, be patient. But Hamilton is
- 15:43Speaker 1: a huge feet as well. We both were in really
- 15:45Speaker 1: big shows and really cool and I just I had
- 15:49Speaker 1: my I had my little things I wanted to do,
- 15:50Speaker 1: and I was hold onto my Broadway. I'm very proud
- 15:53Speaker 1: of it, so I'll just like, we'll just hold on
- 15:56Speaker 1: to it for a little bit. I wanted the talent show.
- 15:58Speaker 1: I wanted I had a really fun so.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Oh yeah, well, yeah, it would have been amazing.
- 16:04Speaker 2: You mentioned the villain edit without naming any names. Were
- 16:07Speaker 2: you or were you not surprised by who? We think
- 16:12Speaker 2: they very clearly gave someone a villain edit in the
- 16:14Speaker 2: first several episodes.
- 16:15Speaker 4: Did that surprise you at all?
- 16:17Speaker 2: Watching the way it played out on screen.
- 16:20Speaker 1: I'm trying to find my my my hallmark answer. I
- 16:24Speaker 1: think I think he should lean into it. And I
- 16:28Speaker 1: think we always need a villain I think I think
- 16:31Speaker 1: that's you know, like all all press is good press,
- 16:36Speaker 1: and if you're getting if you're getting a villain edit,
- 16:38Speaker 1: lean into it. That would be my advice to him.
- 16:41Speaker 1: And if you were to ever come and ask me
- 16:44Speaker 1: what hey, or if any of the boys came and
- 16:47Speaker 1: asked me, how do I approach my edits or this
- 16:50Speaker 1: or that? Because it's reality TV show, you're gonna get
- 16:52Speaker 1: edited in ways you don't know, like, and that's just
- 16:55Speaker 1: kind of going into it. I watch a lot of
- 16:56Speaker 1: reality shows and I don't think they've done I think
- 17:01Speaker 1: I think, yes, sure they have, have they villainized or
- 17:05Speaker 1: made him? Sure? But lean into it. That would be
- 17:09Speaker 1: what I would want to tell him, or if he
- 17:11Speaker 1: asks me how he would do it? I would lean
- 17:13Speaker 1: into it because the villain gets a lot of talk.
- 17:16Speaker 1: You know, people are.
- 17:17Speaker 4: Talking absolutely you hear it.
- 17:20Speaker 1: And whether they like you or not, that doesn't matter.
- 17:22Speaker 1: We always need a villain in every movie. There's got
- 17:24Speaker 1: to be a villain. And if you can, absolutely, if
- 17:26Speaker 1: you can become that, that's there. You go work that
- 17:29Speaker 1: way like working. He's a sweetheart though he is the
- 17:33Speaker 1: biggest sweetheart, the biggest heart. But sometimes you just portrayed.
- 17:38Speaker 1: And I don't think Hallmark's doing on purpose. Is just
- 17:42Speaker 1: there's it's it's villain light, yea, but you need every
- 17:47Speaker 1: show needs a villain like.
- 17:49Speaker 4: It, especially a reality show.
- 17:52Speaker 1: And I met these boys and they're also sweet. The
- 17:54Speaker 1: first day I met him. We we literally met in
- 17:56Speaker 1: the house the first day and and I I start
- 18:00Speaker 1: was like, oh my god, they're all so nice. How
- 18:03Speaker 1: how can I like be like I'll be the sassy
- 18:07Speaker 1: little villain.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Okay, it's so funny that that was your intention having
- 18:13Speaker 2: seen the show, because you just come off as just
- 18:16Speaker 2: like this.
- 18:17Speaker 4: Good guy like you. You never good guy at it.
- 18:21Speaker 1: It'll never boy at some boy, and it never worked.
- 18:28Speaker 2: Speaking of your persona on the show, one of the
- 18:32Speaker 2: most touching moments of the very first episode is you
- 18:35Speaker 2: come right out you identify as a member of.
- 18:37Speaker 4: The LGB two Q community.
- 18:39Speaker 2: You and Jonathan have this lovely moment that brought me
- 18:42Speaker 2: to tears. How important was it for you to get
- 18:44Speaker 2: that out in front early in the show.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Well, I didn't want to. I didn't want to be
- 18:50Speaker 1: the second one to figure come out on care there's
- 18:53Speaker 1: my villain side. I just wanted I wanted to be
- 18:55Speaker 1: the first one to be like, hey, this is what
- 18:58Speaker 1: I am. I didn't want I feel like I feel
- 19:01Speaker 1: like my whole life, it's as an actor, you get
- 19:05Speaker 1: scared to let somebody know you're gay because you're they
- 19:12Speaker 1: you know, your sex appeal might go down, or this
- 19:15Speaker 1: might go down, or this might go down, or you
- 19:17Speaker 1: might not get work because you're gay. And I was.
- 19:20Speaker 1: I've lived for thirty some years now fearing that of
- 19:26Speaker 1: like I'm out to my friends. I've like, I'm not
- 19:29Speaker 1: ashamed of who I am. But there's there's a sense
- 19:31Speaker 1: of relief when I finally got to like come out
- 19:34Speaker 1: in front of on a camera, where like now you
- 19:37Speaker 1: can google me and I'm there's no secret about it,
- 19:41Speaker 1: Like I don't have to be like Oh, like, it's
- 19:44Speaker 1: just who I am, and if I lose work because
- 19:47Speaker 1: of it, that's just the choice I made. And it's scary,
- 19:50Speaker 1: and I think that having somebody, like getting to tell
- 19:54Speaker 1: somebody the host, also being an out gay guy who
- 19:57Speaker 1: plays straight roles as well, telling him that felt safe
- 20:02Speaker 1: and it is emotional because it is scary. And then
- 20:05Speaker 1: having a group of guys that you don't know. I
- 20:07Speaker 1: don't know him that well, but it felt like very
- 20:10Speaker 1: supportive group made me feel really good and kind of
- 20:15Speaker 1: made that little five year old Daxon who has always
- 20:18Speaker 1: just want to be weird and goofy, to just like
- 20:24Speaker 1: be okay with it, and it was really freeing, Like
- 20:28Speaker 1: that moment was probably one of the most free moments
- 20:31Speaker 1: of my life. And I'll remember that forever, truly.
- 20:34Speaker 4: That's lovely, really lovely.
- 20:36Speaker 5: We're rooting for a second season of Finding Mister Christmas.
- 20:39Speaker 5: We think it's such an enjoyable show, and like Megan says,
- 20:43Speaker 5: we both watch a lot of reality TV, and when
- 20:46Speaker 5: somebody goes home early, like unexpectedly, you're always rooting that
- 20:51Speaker 5: they'll get their redemption, that they'll get asked back for
- 20:55Speaker 5: the next season. Is that something you would entertain if
- 20:58Speaker 5: you were asked back for a second season.
- 21:01Speaker 1: I'd entertain it. I wanna I entertain it that I
- 21:05Speaker 1: would also entertain and like, uh, you know, give give
- 21:09Speaker 1: me my own reality series. Yeah, I'm like, give Hayden
- 21:14Speaker 1: and I reality series. The Bromance of twenty twenty four.
- 21:18Speaker 1: I really want to continue. I would do it in
- 21:21Speaker 1: a heartbeat. Hallmark has been It's been really fun to
- 21:23Speaker 1: be on it. I'm sure there has been no talk
- 21:28Speaker 1: of a season two. I don't know anything about a
- 21:30Speaker 1: season two. I'm always throwing ideas out there to to
- 21:35Speaker 1: to any to Jonavan, anybody, just being like to be
- 21:38Speaker 1: like because you know, we become friends with all of
- 21:40Speaker 1: these boys and like very close, which is really special.
- 21:43Speaker 1: And yeah, I would love I would love to be
- 21:45Speaker 1: part of a Hallmark situation in twenty twenty five. I
- 21:50Speaker 1: don't know what that will be. If that is season two,
- 21:53Speaker 1: I'll jump into it. If that comes in as a
- 21:55Speaker 1: guest on season two, I jump into it. But yeah,
- 21:57Speaker 1: i'd compete again, but I think the boys will come
- 21:59Speaker 1: at a little bit more.
- 22:01Speaker 5: Oh that's always my biggest criticism about a reality show
- 22:04Speaker 5: that does well, because then like you the next season
- 22:08Speaker 5: of contestants come.
- 22:09Speaker 3: In, they're like prepared.
- 22:11Speaker 5: You know, one wants to be the villain, one wants
- 22:13Speaker 5: to be this, one wants to be that. So like,
- 22:15Speaker 5: the first season is always the best in my opinion.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Well yeah, and they don't know because none of we
- 22:21Speaker 1: had no clue. And I think, you know, the first season,
- 22:24Speaker 1: everybody's trying to, like even the the creators are trying
- 22:27Speaker 1: to work out things that they're like, oh it works,
- 22:30Speaker 1: Oh this works, Let's keep going. And I think that yeah,
- 22:34Speaker 1: a season two would it will be more interesting to
- 22:37Speaker 1: watch as well, just because everyone will kind of know
- 22:41Speaker 1: how to play the game. And I kind of came
- 22:44Speaker 1: in watching a lot of reality shows, so I kind
- 22:45Speaker 1: of knew how to play the game. And I really
- 22:48Speaker 1: want to just try to get my romance with Hayden
- 22:51Speaker 1: movement and grooving.
- 22:53Speaker 5: The opportunity is there. It's absolutely there. Like we've seen
- 22:58Speaker 5: tons of like duo who meet each other on reality
- 23:02Speaker 5: TV shows like go Off and do things together.
- 23:04Speaker 3: So I mean, yeah, proc I just.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Believe what I love about this show and what I
- 23:09Speaker 1: love about these boys in general, was the straight gay
- 23:14Speaker 1: relationships I had, The straight gay relationship I have right now,
- 23:17Speaker 1: I think was really important. And I think showing that
- 23:20Speaker 1: like straight men and gay men can be best friends
- 23:23Speaker 1: and it's not a it's it's not something that's weird
- 23:27Speaker 1: or frowned upon or people think this or that. And
- 23:31Speaker 1: I felt really weird growing up, like not weird growing up.
- 23:34Speaker 1: I just sometimes you're like, I don't want them to
- 23:36Speaker 1: think I'm hitting on them, or if I am hitting
- 23:39Speaker 1: on them, I want them to know it's just a joke,
- 23:40Speaker 1: like you know, so it's just And the not feeling
- 23:45Speaker 1: comfortable around nine straight guys was really really cool and
- 23:50Speaker 1: made me feel even more confident in myself.
- 23:54Speaker 2: You've mentioned your romance with fellow finding mister Christmas R.
- 23:58Speaker 4: Hayden.
- 23:59Speaker 2: I love noing that, like we saw you guys forming
- 24:02Speaker 2: a friendship on screen, and I love knowing that it's
- 24:04Speaker 2: genuine and it extends.
- 24:05Speaker 4: Beyond the show.
- 24:08Speaker 2: You two have started your own podcast, Blondie' Out Loud,
- 24:12Speaker 2: which has two episodes out as of the recording of
- 24:14Speaker 2: this episode. I was listening to episode two this morning
- 24:17Speaker 2: walking the Dog and y'all are a good time. That
- 24:19Speaker 2: podcast is high energy. It's fun to see you guys
- 24:23Speaker 2: play off of each other. I laughed out loud and
- 24:27Speaker 2: you tease Hayden about his blue contact lens.
- 24:32Speaker 6: What.
- 24:33Speaker 4: Yeah, well, we're still we're.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Still trying to find a voice in it, and we're
- 24:38Speaker 1: having fun. And I think what I just talked about,
- 24:40Speaker 1: the bromance is really cool and we just want to
- 24:43Speaker 1: continue to show that because in the show, that relationship
- 24:47Speaker 1: is real. I wish they could show I wish they
- 24:49Speaker 1: The edits were kind of short, but I wish they
- 24:51Speaker 1: could have showed more of us, of that friendship. But
- 24:56Speaker 1: you know, there's nine other guys, but it's real. It's
- 25:00Speaker 1: really kind of cool. How the I mean, I'm in
- 25:03Speaker 1: a text thread with all of them. Oh, it's called
- 25:07Speaker 1: the Bros. So they there's probably ten text messages already today,
- 25:12Speaker 1: Like it is NonStop and everyone texts. It's on silent.
- 25:17Speaker 1: But I love them all.
- 25:19Speaker 4: It's so fun.
- 25:21Speaker 3: That's so amazing.
- 25:23Speaker 1: I read Let's go about ten times a day.
- 25:29Speaker 4: That's so funny.
- 25:29Speaker 5: Because I recently said in a recap episode it might
- 25:32Speaker 5: have been episode three after you Were Gone, I was like,
- 25:34Speaker 5: the number of times the word bro.
- 25:36Speaker 3: Is said in this episode.
- 25:38Speaker 5: I was like, it needs to be a drinking games
- 25:40Speaker 5: out of control.
- 25:41Speaker 1: I could probably count over one thousand.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Today I always we said they need like you're too
- 25:48Speaker 2: young for this, but like a pop up style video
- 25:50Speaker 2: like bro.
- 25:51Speaker 4: Count over the episode in Hallmark Plus, they.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Truly do no, no, no, they truly need to broken
- 25:58Speaker 1: that verbic. I you know, I guess Hayden and I
- 26:03Speaker 1: laugh about it because he says my like in the
- 26:07Speaker 1: gay community will be like girl, come on girl, like
- 26:10Speaker 1: it's like so funny. And I was like, He's like
- 26:12Speaker 1: I Hayden's like, I've said girl more than I've ever
- 26:15Speaker 1: said in my life to people, and let's go to
- 26:20Speaker 1: everybody in my life. It's just like what did we
- 26:23Speaker 1: do to each other?
- 26:26Speaker 4: I'm like, that is amazing. That is so funny. You
- 26:29Speaker 4: guys should make it.
- 26:30Speaker 5: You guys should do a YouTube channel like you guys
- 26:32Speaker 5: should be making videos of you do you do you guys?
- 26:35Speaker 4: Do you guys live together? Like do you had?
- 26:38Speaker 1: And I, yeah, no, we don't live together. He lives
- 26:42Speaker 1: he lives in La So we yeah, we have a
- 26:46Speaker 1: we Our podcast is on YouTube as well, so this's.
- 26:48Speaker 4: Oh nice, Okay, we're good.
- 26:50Speaker 1: We're we're like, we're learning a lot. We It is
- 26:53Speaker 1: a as you guys know, podcasting is hot is like
- 26:59Speaker 1: not hard, but it's way more difficult than it seems like.
- 27:02Speaker 1: It seems so simple and easy, but there's a lot
- 27:05Speaker 1: that goes into it, and we're we're having fun doing
- 27:08Speaker 1: it and we like showing our friendship and that's where
- 27:12Speaker 1: we're not here to. We don't talk about the show
- 27:14Speaker 1: on it. We want to talk about our friendship and
- 27:17Speaker 1: how just something fun and stupid and silly because we
- 27:20Speaker 1: both are fun, silly blondies that met on a fun
- 27:24Speaker 1: reality show.
- 27:25Speaker 5: So well, you both are so likable too, and that's
- 27:27Speaker 5: what the draw is. That's what's going to draw on audience,
- 27:30Speaker 5: is that you guys are so likable and they want
- 27:32Speaker 5: to like know more about you guys and your friendship
- 27:34Speaker 5: and like, you know, all the stuff that you guys
- 27:36Speaker 5: are into, so like that's so fun, so kind of
- 27:39Speaker 5: forget it's something special.
- 27:41Speaker 1: When we met on set, Like there was days where
- 27:44Speaker 1: like I think there's like one morning I was like,
- 27:46Speaker 1: we should find new friends. Truly, I think that's one
- 27:53Speaker 1: of our funniest jokes. Like I was like, we should
- 27:55Speaker 1: probably find new friends because they're gonna get tired of
- 27:58Speaker 1: this story.
- 28:00Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, no, oh my gosh.
- 28:03Speaker 5: Could you imagine if you stayed and then like, what
- 28:05Speaker 5: did you guys had this fringship in and what if
- 28:07Speaker 5: it came down to the final two where both of
- 28:09Speaker 5: you like that would have been a bonkers of a series.
- 28:12Speaker 1: You know we I think we were. I don't know
- 28:14Speaker 1: if they they might have gone in an edit, but
- 28:17Speaker 1: before I left, it didn't probably really matter, but I
- 28:19Speaker 1: think we were like I think there's times where we're like,
- 28:22Speaker 1: let's be the final two. Let's be like we were.
- 28:24Speaker 1: I was playing reality I was playing reality show. These
- 28:28Speaker 1: scrape boys had no no, they had no chance with
- 28:31Speaker 1: me things ahead of time before, like just because I've
- 28:36Speaker 1: watched reality shows. They didn't tell me anything. I just
- 28:38Speaker 1: was like they were just they always we all laugh
- 28:41Speaker 1: about it, being like Dax was like nine steps ahead
- 28:43Speaker 1: of all of us.
- 28:43Speaker 4: I was like, yeah, like you're out here playing chess.
- 28:47Speaker 1: I knew the assignment. I was like, yes, are you
- 28:49Speaker 1: all trying to make your Christmas gifts? Pretty like let's
- 28:52Speaker 1: They're like, what are you doing here?
- 28:55Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 28:56Speaker 2: Smart? Do you have a favorite reality show that you
- 29:00Speaker 2: love that like inspired you.
- 29:02Speaker 1: I was getting a lot of RuPaul's drag race with
- 29:04Speaker 1: finding Christmas with like this many challenging name challenge. So
- 29:09Speaker 1: I kind of was like, somebody likes you know, Rupuls
- 29:14Speaker 1: drag Race. I love. I think it's great. I think
- 29:16Speaker 1: it represents a community that wasn't didn't have a lot
- 29:19Speaker 1: of light on it for a long, long long time,
- 29:21Speaker 1: and it's so fun and and really opens your opens
- 29:26Speaker 1: the world to a whole new genre of types of people.
- 29:30Speaker 1: And they're really just human beings like the rest, like
- 29:33Speaker 1: we're all human beings, but like they're they're just this
- 29:36Speaker 1: like group of LGBTQ plus people that also celebrate life
- 29:43Speaker 1: and have fun and it's all about joy and being
- 29:46Speaker 1: silly and creative. So I love that show. And then
- 29:48Speaker 1: I've fallen in love with Traders. That's yes, I'm trying
- 30:00Speaker 1: find me. I want to be a villain. You'd be
- 30:04Speaker 1: such a good villain on there because people trust like
- 30:07Speaker 1: they trust me. But we all know I said it
- 30:10Speaker 1: here first. I can't be that mean, I could ever
- 30:15Speaker 1: be that mean. I just want a little villainy.
- 30:18Speaker 3: You would be amazing on that show.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Yeah, so you've got the podcast. I know you have
- 30:24Speaker 2: big dreams for next year. Is there something that's coming
- 30:27Speaker 2: up next that you can tell us about.
- 30:29Speaker 1: I will be doing Jersey Boys again in Phoenix for
- 30:34Speaker 1: like three and a half months this winter, so I'm
- 30:37Speaker 1: just kind of sitting around chilling until that show. I
- 30:41Speaker 1: did Jersey Boys right before I came, right before we
- 30:44Speaker 1: did press, so I went from I went from finding
- 30:49Speaker 1: Mister Christmas to eye injury to two big surgeries for
- 30:55Speaker 1: my summer, and then went into Jersey Boys and into
- 30:57Speaker 1: press and then they announced the show. So I've been
- 31:00Speaker 1: kind of busy doing stuff for the show.
- 31:02Speaker 2: Well, and when you're in a show, I mean you're
- 31:04Speaker 2: doing there's no downtime. I mean it's eight shows a
- 31:07Speaker 2: week and you're just living that show life full time.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Yeah, And not to be like dramatic or anything, but
- 31:14Speaker 1: this last I hadn't done theater in five years. I
- 31:16Speaker 1: was really focusing on developing projects and being in projects
- 31:21Speaker 1: on especially for camera, and this audition came around when
- 31:25Speaker 1: I was in my first recovery for Bob Gaudio, which
- 31:30Speaker 1: was an Italian and I was like, I've turned it
- 31:33Speaker 1: down Jersey Boys like nine times, and I was like,
- 31:36Speaker 1: you know what, I have nothing to do. I'm in
- 31:37Speaker 1: Kansas for like two weeks so with my mom, and
- 31:41Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm just gonna put it on tape, get
- 31:44Speaker 1: a callback, and like I'm just like kinda whatever, and
- 31:47Speaker 1: then I book it and booked the show the day
- 31:51Speaker 1: that I went in for my second surgery. So I
- 31:54Speaker 1: think the show is just a gift to have give
- 31:57Speaker 1: me something to look forward to for the U for
- 32:02Speaker 1: the next recovery, because it's a long recovery. The recovery
- 32:05Speaker 1: is not cute. It's that you can't see, you have
- 32:08Speaker 1: to keep your head down, you can't exercise. It just yeah,
- 32:12Speaker 1: it was just so I think Jersey Boys saved me
- 32:16Speaker 1: in terms of like my morale and trying to in
- 32:19Speaker 1: getting back on theater, my first love. And it was
- 32:22Speaker 1: a really hard role. So it kind of took my
- 32:24Speaker 1: not but a very involved role. I wouldn't say it
- 32:27Speaker 1: was like difficult, but with a lot of with a
- 32:31Speaker 1: lot of lines and a lot of dialogue, and so
- 32:34Speaker 1: it took my mind off of like this annoying stuff
- 32:37Speaker 1: that I was going through. And then yeah and now
- 32:42Speaker 1: and then I did press and here I am. I'm
- 32:44Speaker 1: just waiting to have another surgery and do Bob Gaudio again.
- 32:48Speaker 1: So I've already done it once. I'm ready to I'm
- 32:50Speaker 1: ready to tackle it again. I guess unless a movie
- 32:52Speaker 1: comes my way in the next two months, but we'll see.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Yeah, we're crossing our fingers for that. Well, we have
- 32:59Speaker 2: loved talking to you. Tell our listeners where they can
- 33:03Speaker 2: find you.
- 33:04Speaker 1: You can find me on Instagram Dex bloom Quist at
- 33:07Speaker 1: Dax Smoomquist or TikTok at Dax smoom Quist. Those are
- 33:10Speaker 1: that's my bigger my two biggest things I'm on And
- 33:14Speaker 1: that's about it.
- 33:17Speaker 2: And as your plan currently to drop the podcast weekly,
- 33:19Speaker 2: do you think you'll continue while you're doing Jersey Boys.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Yeah, this is so fun. We're using riverside. We were
- 33:25Speaker 1: trying to figure out we have a really cool space
- 33:28Speaker 1: we're recording in that was I have friends that have
- 33:32Speaker 1: just have cool spaces to let us record and while
- 33:37Speaker 1: I'm away, we'll record on riverside. So this is really cool.
- 33:40Speaker 1: This is a cool learning experience for me. I can't
- 33:42Speaker 1: like call Hayden right after and be like, oh my god,
- 33:44Speaker 1: it's so easy. But yeah, so we're going to plan
- 33:50Speaker 1: on weekly. We told ourselves let's do eight weeks. Let's
- 33:54Speaker 1: see how we feel after eight weeks and if we
- 33:57Speaker 1: want to keep going, if we get people that really
- 33:59Speaker 1: like it, we still having fun. The goal is to
- 34:01Speaker 1: have fun. Like I think, yeah, after dealing with this,
- 34:06Speaker 1: this really crazy eye situation, my life perspective is enjoy it.
- 34:12Speaker 1: It can go like that so quick, and I with it.
- 34:15Speaker 1: I zerox Like I had no clue that this was
- 34:18Speaker 1: going to happen. And so I'm you know, I'm dealing
- 34:22Speaker 1: with medical medical bills that you know that I'm trying
