- 1:11Speaker 2: Thank God I can now say bet the board podcast again,
- 1:15Speaker 2: because I have almost said it 8 million times since
- 1:18Speaker 2: Furman had it on hiatus for a moment. But he
- 1:21Speaker 2: is back, baby. Todd Furman back. He is with Sporting
- 1:25Speaker 2: State now. Bet the board podcast is back. Everybody loves it. Furman,
- 1:29Speaker 2: what is up, my man?
- 1:29Speaker 1: How are you?
- 1:31Speaker 3: I'm doing well this morning, gentlemen.
- 1:32Speaker 4: And this was almost the breaking point as part of
- 1:34Speaker 4: my deal that I had to show my face with
- 1:37Speaker 4: you guys every Friday morning throughout the season, be able
- 1:40Speaker 4: to look right into the whites of Dunaway's eyes and
- 1:42Speaker 4: tell him how wrong he is about all of his
- 1:44Speaker 4: college football takes from now until eternity. But Thrilled to
- 1:47Speaker 4: have the podcast back. I got to thank Clay Travis
- 1:49Speaker 4: for luring us out of retirement. It was a lengthy negotiation,
- 1:53Speaker 4: so to speak, to try and get Payne to come
- 1:56Speaker 4: back and be part of it. But we are absolutely
- 1:58Speaker 4: thrilled to be part of Sporting State going forward, a
- 2:00Speaker 4: multi-year deal. And people can come to expect that great
- 2:03Speaker 4: level of coverage we'll provide for the NFL and college football.
- 2:06Speaker 4: who knows where it'll take us over the next couple
- 2:08Speaker 4: of years.
- 2:09Speaker 1: 66% of this show are big dog fans. Brown hates dogs.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Don't hate them. Who's the nice dog in the background
- 2:15Speaker 1: that's watching your six, that's looking out the window, making
- 2:17Speaker 1: sure nobody's going to drop you in the middle of
- 2:19Speaker 1: this interview.
- 2:21Speaker 3: He'll walk back and forth throughout the course of the show.
- 2:23Speaker 4: Milo kind of marches to the beat of his own
- 2:25Speaker 4: drummer around these parts. And as anybody who owns a
- 2:28Speaker 4: dog knows, he calls the shots in this house. So
- 2:30Speaker 4: the pecking order is he's number one, the wife is
- 2:32Speaker 4: number two, and I'm number 164 in terms of the
- 2:34Speaker 4: most important people that walk through the front door.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Todd's been part of our family for a long time.
- 2:40Speaker 2: It's great to have him as a teammate with Sporting State.
- 2:41Speaker 2: We are super excited about that. Add Todd Furman on
- 2:44Speaker 2: social media. You guys love him. I will start by asking,
- 2:49Speaker 2: Did we see the biggest upset point spread-wise last night
- 2:52Speaker 2: that we'll see all season?
- 2:54Speaker 4: I mean, it's the biggest one that we've seen since 2021.
- 2:57Speaker 4: We all remember the Kansas Jayhawks back on November 13th
- 3:01Speaker 4: upsetting the Texas Longhorns, catching 29.5 points. Pretty wild to
- 3:05Speaker 4: watch that game unfold because sometimes you need a bounce
- 3:07Speaker 4: here or a bounce.
- 3:08Speaker 3: There to be able to pull off an upset of
- 3:10Speaker 3: that magnitude.
- 3:11Speaker 4: Anyone who watched that football game, especially in the first half,
- 3:14Speaker 4: you could make the case that UMass was the more
- 3:16Speaker 4: talented team at the quarterback position. They were more physical
- 3:20Speaker 4: in the trenches, and they basically took it to Rutgers
- 3:23Speaker 4: right from the opening kickoff. Full marks to a team
- 3:26Speaker 4: that has not beaten a power four opponent since the
- 3:28Speaker 4: late 70s in the form of the Minutemen. And you
- 3:31Speaker 4: begin to wonder if this is Greg Sciano's swan song
- 3:34Speaker 4: during his second stint at Rutgers for a team that's
- 3:37Speaker 4: going to find their schedule getting significantly more difficult when
- 3:39Speaker 4: they step up in class against the Big Ten. And
- 3:42Speaker 4: I have to imagine any folks that had Rutgers under
- 3:44Speaker 4: five and a half reg season wins were not counting
- 3:47Speaker 4: on UMass helping that ledger get there a little bit quicker.
- 3:50Speaker 5: So I gave out the under six and a half
- 3:54Speaker 5: wins for Georgia Tech. I feel much better about that
- 3:57Speaker 5: after the game last night, Furman. I thought it was
- 3:59Speaker 5: going to be a rough year for Brent Key going
- 4:00Speaker 5: into this. But watching that, I don't know if you
- 4:03Speaker 5: back Colorado or not. I just knew that it was
- 4:06Speaker 5: going to be another backdoor cover, much like Hawaii Stanford
- 4:09Speaker 5: last week.
- 4:10Speaker 1: I was just waiting for that pick six.
- 4:12Speaker 5: I would assume the books probably cleaned up last night,
- 4:15Speaker 5: at least on Colorado winning that game outright.
- 4:18Speaker 4: It definitely helped LT because you had folks that were
- 4:20Speaker 4: looking to lay the six and a half at Georgia
- 4:22Speaker 4: tech where that number closed. They were trying to back
- 4:24Speaker 4: Georgia tech in a variety of ways from exotics and
- 4:27Speaker 4: money line parlays, including them in some of the limited
- 4:30Speaker 4: slate that was there only for FBS matchups.
- 4:33Speaker 3: But to your point, I mean, I was right there
- 4:35Speaker 3: with you with Georgia tech.
- 4:36Speaker 4: They were a sell for me coming into the year,
- 4:38Speaker 4: thought this was a little bit of a coin flip
- 4:39Speaker 4: game in terms of their wind total. But I think
- 4:42Speaker 4: what we saw yesterday on full display from Georgia tech
- 4:45Speaker 4: was what the adjustment is going to be without Haynes
- 4:47Speaker 4: King and who was a college football cheat code when
- 4:49Speaker 4: plays broke down around him, his athleticism and his physicality.
- 4:53Speaker 4: This is a tech team that doesn't have much in
- 4:55Speaker 4: the way of wide receiver talent. And there were plenty
- 4:57Speaker 4: of big plays that Colorado didn't connect on early in
- 4:59Speaker 4: that game with Julian Lewis missing his receivers. So I
- 5:02Speaker 4: have to give CU a world of credit. They were
- 5:04Speaker 4: able to rally the troops and march down the field successfully.
- 5:07Speaker 4: to get that improbable game-winning score and come up with
- 5:09Speaker 4: a big special teams play. But what this does do
- 5:12Speaker 4: for me, it probably takes Tennessee out of range. I
- 5:15Speaker 4: was hoping to be able to lay 11.5 or 12
- 5:17Speaker 4: with the Vols next week on the road in Atlanta,
- 5:20Speaker 4: but I have to imagine that number is going to
- 5:21Speaker 4: open north of two touchdowns plus, given how lethargic Georgia
- 5:25Speaker 4: Tech looked and the fact they couldn't muster a single
- 5:27Speaker 4: offensive touchdown in defeat.
- 5:29Speaker 1: That's a great point about next week's Tennessee and Tech game. Tonight,
- 5:32Speaker 1: we've got a lot of double-digit Point spreads again. A
- 5:35Speaker 1: very close one is Toledo at Michigan State. A lot
- 5:38Speaker 1: of change over there in East Lansing. Here's your first chance.
- 5:42Speaker 1: First chance to cut me to shreds looking into my eyes.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I sort of like Toledo on the money line tonight.
- 5:49Speaker 4: You know, honestly, Donaway, I'd want to tell you you
- 5:51Speaker 4: were wrong, but I'm not going to tell you you
- 5:53Speaker 4: were right here. I just don't really have a strong
- 5:55Speaker 4: opinion on this particular game. Toledo is going to look
- 5:58Speaker 4: significantly different. with head coach for Mercer taking over. Jason Candle,
- 6:03Speaker 4: you talk to people around the Toledo program, some of
- 6:05Speaker 4: them believe it's addition by subtraction with him taking the
- 6:08Speaker 4: job at UConn. One of the things that Candle did
- 6:10Speaker 4: so well during his time in the Glass Bowl as
- 6:13Speaker 4: head coach at Toledo was winning games outright as an underdog.
- 6:16Speaker 4: He just typically stubbed his toes in games. that they
- 6:19Speaker 4: should have gone out there and won. Michigan State, for me,
- 6:22Speaker 4: remains one of the bigger enigmas. And I'll fully admit
- 6:25Speaker 4: that when they hired Jonathan Smith away from Corvallis and
- 6:27Speaker 4: Oregon State, I thought that was going to be a
- 6:29Speaker 4: slam dunk hire.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Clearly, I was wrong, and it didn't quite work out.
- 6:32Speaker 4: The Aiden Childs experience crashed and burned, and it's why
- 6:34Speaker 4: he's taking snaps as a starting quarterback today.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Under Chip Kelly's leadership at Northwestern.
- 6:39Speaker 4: But I'm not sure Pat Fitzgerald would have been the
- 6:41Speaker 4: top of my list. I really felt like the game
- 6:43Speaker 4: had kind of passed him by in the last.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Couple of seasons at Northwestern.
- 6:47Speaker 4: And that's really before we factor in all the off-field
- 6:49Speaker 4: baggage that'll carry with him to East Lansing. I lean
- 6:53Speaker 4: ever so slightly towards Toledo plus the points. What I
- 6:55Speaker 4: can tell you about this game, though, is you've had
- 6:57Speaker 4: a real battle in the market on the total. This
- 7:00Speaker 4: number was as high as 48.5, 49 where it opened,
- 7:03Speaker 4: dipped down to 45.5 when we've started to see some
- 7:06Speaker 4: over money come in right now.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Hard Rock Bet sitting at 48.5.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Todd Furman is with us, bettheboardpodcast.com. I was asking the chat,
- 7:13Speaker 2: you may not know the answer to this. I don't
- 7:16Speaker 2: know how tech savvy you are. Will the podcast be
- 7:19Speaker 2: on the same feed it was? What will the followers
- 7:22Speaker 2: need to do to make sure they get the Bet
- 7:24Speaker 2: the Board podcast?
- 7:25Speaker 4: So as you guys are learning, I'm sure, as part
- 7:27Speaker 4: of Sporting the State and any business venture with Clay Travis,
- 7:30Speaker 4: things typically are like drinking from a fire hose when
- 7:32Speaker 4: they get off the ground. And that's kind of how
- 7:34Speaker 4: things have gone for us. A great technical support team
- 7:37Speaker 4: with some of the folks behind the scenes. But for
- 7:39Speaker 4: right now, the best vehicle to try and make sure
- 7:42Speaker 4: you don't miss a single Bet the Board podcast episode
- 7:44Speaker 4: will be on the Bet the Board podcast YouTube channel.
- 7:47Speaker 4: We're still working on some of the audio distribution, but
- 7:50Speaker 4: all signs right now point to there being new audio
- 7:52Speaker 4: channels available. uh with some of our great partners and
- 7:55Speaker 4: so if you subscribe to that old bet the board
- 7:57Speaker 4: feed still keep it there you never know when uh
- 7:59Speaker 4: things could pop up there as well but for right
- 8:01Speaker 4: now that is not going to be the best way
- 8:03Speaker 4: to get fresh.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Episodes we'll communicate all that with you as firman comes
- 8:06Speaker 2: on with us but also follow him on social media
- 8:08Speaker 2: he'll send that out at todd firman at todd firman
- 8:10Speaker 2: it's where you follow him bet the board podcast um
- 8:13Speaker 2: and sport and state For Auburn, this is going to
- 8:16Speaker 2: be a home crowd, but it's not exactly like playing
- 8:19Speaker 2: in Jordan-Hare Stadium, a little more of a neutral side fill.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Seven and a half points seems to me to be
- 8:27Speaker 2: a little bit of a hefty number for a team
- 8:28Speaker 2: that has so many transfers, so many unknowns, first-time head coach.
- 8:33Speaker 2: What do you feel about Auburn and Baylor now as
- 8:35Speaker 2: we are about 24 to 48 hours away?
- 8:39Speaker 4: So we're looking at all of these college football teams,
- 8:41Speaker 4: whether it's a UMass who really exceeded oddsmakers expectations yesterday
- 8:45Speaker 4: or a team like Baylor and Auburn that will get
- 8:47Speaker 4: an interesting non-conference showdown and a good data point for
- 8:50Speaker 4: both these teams. I was a seller of Baylor in
- 8:53Speaker 4: terms of the macro market, have a little bit of
- 8:55Speaker 4: exposure to them going under their win total before the
- 8:57Speaker 4: year starts. Meanwhile, for Auburn, it's not a team that
- 9:00Speaker 4: I was looking to buy or sell. It was more
- 9:02Speaker 4: of a holding pattern to see how Alex Golish's offense
- 9:05Speaker 4: would translate to a step up in class and competition.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Of course, we saw USF last year get their first
- 9:11Speaker 4: look at DJ Lagway, and that announced their presence with
- 9:14Speaker 4: a bit of authority and maybe the demise of Billy
- 9:16Speaker 4: Napier's final season in Gainesville. So some revenge working for
- 9:20Speaker 4: Lagway and company. But I'm not sure I want to
- 9:22Speaker 4: buy into Dave Aranda in any capacity. One of the
- 9:24Speaker 4: hottest hot seats in any of the power floor conferences.
- 9:27Speaker 4: It's a guy who's really lost his fastball in terms
- 9:29Speaker 4: of being a defensive mind. And Baylor has been anything
- 9:32Speaker 4: but a defensive juggernaut. Now, on the flip side of things,
- 9:35Speaker 4: Auburn has taken some money. They opened up right around
- 9:37Speaker 4: a touchdown favorite route to seven and a half, as
- 9:39Speaker 4: you kind of alluded to. but I want to see
- 9:41Speaker 4: what this offense will look like even against a much
- 9:44Speaker 4: maligned Baylor side where I can tell you, we've seen
- 9:47Speaker 4: a decent amount of sharp money that should probably be
- 9:49Speaker 4: respected is on the total. This game opened in that
- 9:52Speaker 4: 60 and a half 61 range. We're now down to
- 9:54Speaker 4: 59 and a half, but I'll fully admit I'm not
- 9:57Speaker 4: part of that move myself. And I do think it's
- 9:58Speaker 4: pretty high variance, that if this auburn offense gets playing
- 10:01Speaker 4: downhill and baylor's defense is as bad as advertised uh
- 10:04Speaker 4: that this game could be a little bit higher scoring
- 10:06Speaker 4: but uh We have seen professional bettors take a stance
- 10:09Speaker 4: on this game coming in under, thinking that it could
- 10:11Speaker 4: start slowly with two first-year quarterbacks with new programs.
- 10:14Speaker 5: Hey, and Furman, sticking with totals, Baylor last year third
- 10:17Speaker 5: nationally in plays per game. South Florida under goal is
- 10:21Speaker 5: 17th nationally in plays per game. But when I look
- 10:24Speaker 5: around the board, and I know there's some hefty favorites over,
- 10:28Speaker 5: there's teams that are minus 40-plus, but there's only a
- 10:32Speaker 5: handful of totals in the 60s.
- 10:33Speaker 1: There's a lot of low totals out there this weekend.
- 10:37Speaker 4: So the trend that we have seen LT over the
- 10:39Speaker 4: last couple of years in college football has been interesting
- 10:41Speaker 4: because that hyper pace and tempo era has seems to
- 10:45Speaker 4: have gone away. There are of course, a couple of
- 10:46Speaker 4: programs and you mentioned two of them that want to
- 10:48Speaker 4: play real fast, but what you've seen with the big
- 10:51Speaker 4: boys is they're getting to be more efficient from a
- 10:54Speaker 4: points per drive standpoint. They're just not getting nearly as
- 10:57Speaker 4: many drives. So it's always a balancing act, especially what
- 11:00Speaker 4: you're going to get early in the season. If these
- 11:02Speaker 4: teams come out, and they can hum on all cylinders.
- 11:05Speaker 4: Because if you're not getting that pace and tempo and
- 11:07Speaker 4: running nearly enough offensive plays as the college game kind
- 11:09Speaker 4: of gravitates towards the NFL pace and cadence, then it's
- 11:12Speaker 4: tougher to get over some of these bigger totals that
- 11:15Speaker 4: are there. So it creates a unique situation that unfolds.
- 11:19Speaker 4: And we've seen a lot of these totals take some
- 11:21Speaker 4: under money. It's always interesting to see where the market
- 11:23Speaker 4: has moved too far, and professional bettors like to jump in.
- 11:26Speaker 4: But last night, you have a game between Colorado and
- 11:28Speaker 4: Georgia Tech. They might have been able to play 12 quarters,
- 11:31Speaker 4: much like TCU North Carolina the week before. and still
- 11:33Speaker 4: not go over the closing number but once you start
- 11:36Speaker 4: to get some of those defensive touchdowns factored in and
- 11:38Speaker 4: some of the explosives then it changes the dynamic especially
- 11:41Speaker 4: when you have such a huge margin at least expected
- 11:44Speaker 4: with some of those 30 40 or in the case
- 11:45Speaker 4: of ohio state a 50 point number.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Um i i see where iowa is a huge favorite
- 11:51Speaker 1: what's the point what's your point spread on iowa this
- 11:53Speaker 1: weekend i saw somebody had it at 31 and a
- 11:55Speaker 1: half when's the last time iowa actually scored 31 and
- 11:58Speaker 1: a half points that seems like i should take the
- 12:00Speaker 1: other team right I mean, look.
- 12:03Speaker 4: Dunaway, you're not extremely intrigued by the quarterback battle that's
- 12:06Speaker 4: unfolding in Iowa City, where one of Auburn's very own
- 12:09Speaker 4: Hank Brown is fighting to try and be QB1, to
- 12:12Speaker 4: hand off right, hand off left, because that's what Iowa
- 12:14Speaker 4: Hawkeyes football is all about. This number is massive for Iowa,
- 12:20Speaker 4: but at the same time, anyone who has looked into
- 12:22Speaker 4: the Northern Illinois program and realized some of the turmoil
- 12:25Speaker 4: they faced I mean, they lost their head coach, Thomas Hammock,
- 12:28Speaker 4: after the portal had closed. He took the job as
- 12:30Speaker 4: the running backs coach with the Seattle Seahawks. So you
- 12:33Speaker 4: have an interim head coach there with NIU. You have
- 12:35Speaker 4: a program that's making a jump up, so to speak,
- 12:37Speaker 4: from the MAC to the Mountain West. Their win total
- 12:40Speaker 4: has been bet under quite a bit. I mean, we're
- 12:42Speaker 4: now looking at three and a half, heavily shaded to
- 12:44Speaker 4: the under for the Huskies. And you may get Iowa's
- 12:46Speaker 4: defense or special teams contributing seven to 14 points. So
- 12:50Speaker 4: a scary proposition when you're laying a big number with
- 12:52Speaker 4: the Iowa Hawkeyes. But the only way for me to
- 12:54Speaker 4: look would be gravitating towards the favorite. I think Northern Illinois,
- 12:58Speaker 4: while it's mathematically impossible, could end up with negative points
- 13:00Speaker 4: on the scoreboard.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Furman, I mean, the gut reaction after watching Florida State
- 13:07Speaker 2: not play well in week one is, boy, SMU will
- 13:09Speaker 2: come in there Monday night and run them out of
- 13:11Speaker 2: the stadium.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Normally, when you think like that, that's when Florida State
- 13:14Speaker 1: covers the three and a half. After digesting Florida State's
- 13:17Speaker 1: performance against New Mexico State, how do you feel about
- 13:20Speaker 1: that FSU-SMU game?
- 13:22Speaker 4: Alabama fans should be careful writing off Florida state in
- 13:25Speaker 4: a de facto home opener at their own peril. Given
- 13:27Speaker 4: what we saw last year, Florida state beat the Crimson
- 13:29Speaker 4: tide outright as a two touchdown dog. There's no doubt
- 13:33Speaker 4: Brownie that they were extremely vanilla in their offensive approach.
- 13:36Speaker 3: New Mexico state. Yes.
- 13:37Speaker 4: If you look at the counting stats, They had a
- 13:39Speaker 4: massive advantage when it came to running the football north
- 13:42Speaker 4: of 200 yards there, held New Mexico State below 50.
- 13:45Speaker 3: But the thing that stood out.
- 13:46Speaker 4: For me watching that game on Sunday a day late
- 13:48Speaker 4: was that Florida State didn't look like they were able
- 13:50Speaker 4: to dominate on either the offensive or defensive line. And
- 13:53Speaker 4: we talk about familiar faces. Auburn fans have seen the
- 13:56Speaker 4: Ashton Daniels experience, albeit in a limited sample size. And
- 13:59Speaker 4: there are some legitimate concerns. But on the flip side
- 14:02Speaker 4: of things, this number has already kind of corrected itself.
- 14:04Speaker 4: We're already out to a full field goal. SMU breaking
- 14:07Speaker 4: in a lot of brand new faces defensively. The good
- 14:09Speaker 4: thing for the Mustangs is that Kevin Jennings should be 100%
- 14:12Speaker 4: this year. It was clearly hobbled late in the year
- 14:14Speaker 4: a season ago. And SMU has to be chomping at
- 14:17Speaker 4: the bit to get back out there, knowing that the
- 14:19Speaker 4: last time we saw them in an ACC game, I mean,
- 14:21Speaker 4: they stubbed their toe and then some against Cal with
- 14:24Speaker 4: a chance to get to the conference championship game.
- 14:26Speaker 3: I want no part of SMU.
- 14:28Speaker 4: I think the home field advantage is going to be
- 14:30Speaker 4: pronounced at Doe Campbell. And one of the bigger games
- 14:32Speaker 4: that Mike Norvell is going to coach to try and
- 14:34Speaker 4: keep some of those boo birds at bay. But I
- 14:36Speaker 4: just worry about that talent level from top to bottom
- 14:38Speaker 4: of Florida State. And again, a good data point for
- 14:41Speaker 4: both these teams going forward. Fun game to watch in
- 14:43Speaker 4: a standalone time slot on the holiday, but not something
- 14:46Speaker 4: that I'm running to bat side or total.
- 14:47Speaker 1: My favorite play on the board, SMU. I mean, look
- 14:50Speaker 1: at that point spread, LT. They're giving you money on
- 14:54Speaker 1: a Monday night. Just free money. On a Monday night.
- 14:56Speaker 1: All you have to do is listen to this show.
- 14:58Speaker 4: You know, Dunaway, they're just giving it away at Hard
- 15:01Speaker 4: Rock Pet throughout the state of Florida.
- 15:02Speaker 3: They're just giving it away.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Yesterday, he said.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Promotions on a Monday night. You know how those things go.
- 15:07Speaker 1: He said Georgia Tech easy yesterday for him. But this
- 15:11Speaker 1: is Monday night. This is like the sports folks are saying, hey,
- 15:14Speaker 1: you may have had a bad Saturday and Sunday. We
- 15:16Speaker 1: feel bad. Here you go. Here's a Monday SMU so easy.
- 15:19Speaker 1: We don't want all the money.
- 15:20Speaker 4: The next sports book that feels bad about their players losing.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Will be the first sports book to adopt that type
- 15:26Speaker 3: of sentiment.
- 15:27Speaker 1: So we're all three big Pete Golding fans.
- 15:29Speaker 5: I don't know how anybody's not a Pete Golding fan.
- 15:31Speaker 5: Terrified for Pete on Sunday night would be an awful
- 15:35Speaker 5: loss for Ole Miss, but Louisville is a damn good team.
- 15:38Speaker 5: Three consecutive nine-win campaigns for Jeff Brom. He'll be starting
- 15:41Speaker 5: his fourth quarterback in four years. But Ole Miss minus
- 15:45Speaker 5: six and a half, it seems like there's a little
- 15:47Speaker 5: public love backing the Rebels with where their ranking is
- 15:50Speaker 5: coming into the season.
- 15:52Speaker 1: This seems like a really dangerous game for them.
- 15:55Speaker 4: Ole Miss fans should be very afraid of this game
- 15:58Speaker 4: Sunday night in Nashville because I think it's a program
- 16:00Speaker 4: that comes into this season hoping that they can go
- 16:03Speaker 4: out there and prove that some of the parts are
- 16:05Speaker 4: greater than any individual. And, of course, that individual coaching
- 16:08Speaker 4: on the sidelines in Baton Rouge. And while Pete Golding
- 16:11Speaker 4: did a tremendous job rallying the troops last year in
- 16:13Speaker 4: the college football playoff, the dominant win against Tulane, the
- 16:16Speaker 4: upset of Georgia, and the near miss against Miami, I'm
- 16:19Speaker 4: a little bit skeptical of how this Ole Miss operation
- 16:22Speaker 4: is going to look going forward because you can run
- 16:25Speaker 4: on the us against the world mentality and on vibes
- 16:27Speaker 4: for a short sample size. But when you have an
- 16:29Speaker 4: entire off season and you have to figure out exactly
- 16:32Speaker 4: what you have from a roster construction standpoint, the weight
- 16:34Speaker 4: of expectations can get cranked up pretty quickly. And while
- 16:38Speaker 4: I love the battery of Kiwan Lacey and Trinidad Chambliss
- 16:41Speaker 4: in the backfield, I have some major concerns about what
- 16:44Speaker 4: this Ole Miss passing attack is going to look like
- 16:46Speaker 4: from a skill position player perspective. and how the offensive
- 16:48Speaker 4: and defensive lines will look. Louisville, as you kind of
- 16:51Speaker 4: alluded to LT, a team that has really thrived in
- 16:54Speaker 4: the underdog role under coach Brom, the fourth quarterback in
- 16:57Speaker 4: four years. And you have to hope if you're a
- 16:59Speaker 4: Louisville fan that Lincoln Keenholz will be a better answer
- 17:01Speaker 4: to run that attack than what they got at a
- 17:03Speaker 4: Miller Moss. But Louisville has the luxury of continuity in
- 17:06Speaker 4: the backfield, a one, two running back punch that may
- 17:08Speaker 4: be as good as any in the country. an offensive
- 17:10Speaker 4: line that returns a ton of experience. And I think
- 17:13Speaker 4: the element of surprise could work in their favor here.
- 17:16Speaker 4: I personally grabbed a little bit of the seven, still
- 17:18Speaker 4: show value right now in that six and a half.
- 17:21Speaker 4: And I think this is a four-quarter fight, one that's
- 17:23Speaker 4: going to go a long way in us determining how.
- 17:25Speaker 3: Good that second tier of the ACC and SEC. are
- 17:28Speaker 3: going to look going forward.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Hey, listen, man, my off-season reporting tells me Oregon is
- 17:33Speaker 1: supposed to be really, really good. Now, Boise has a reputation,
- 17:37Speaker 1: but last I saw, 24, 24 and a half. Seems
- 17:42Speaker 1: like an easy Oregon win. They seem to be stacked
- 17:44Speaker 1: with a lot of production, great quarterback back. How do
- 17:47Speaker 1: you see Boise, Oregon playing? It looks like it should
- 17:51Speaker 1: be a good game with some brands there, but talent
- 17:54Speaker 1: level is all Oregon, right?
- 17:56Speaker 3: Well, I mean, Boise is the favorite in the new
- 17:58Speaker 3: look Pac-12.
- 17:59Speaker 4: And when you try and go through the schedule, you
- 18:01Speaker 4: can make a legitimate case outside of the conference games.
- 18:04Speaker 4: This one is nice, but the big one for Boise
- 18:06Speaker 4: will be beating Memphis if they want to be the
- 18:08Speaker 4: G6 representative and get that proverbial huge win to try
- 18:13Speaker 4: and bolster their status with the committee going forward. This
- 18:17Speaker 4: is a Boise team that is down a bit. I'm
- 18:19Speaker 4: not overly optimistic about how they're going to match up
- 18:22Speaker 4: against Oregon here. Oregon should have a massive advantage along
- 18:25Speaker 4: the offensive and defensive line. You give the nod to
- 18:28Speaker 4: them pretty much everywhere from a skill position, talent standpoint.
- 18:31Speaker 4: And unlike the last meeting between these teams a couple
- 18:33Speaker 4: of years ago, Boise State has good running backs, but
- 18:35Speaker 4: they don't have NFL caliber like they did in Ashton Gentry.
- 18:38Speaker 4: The one thing that was interesting digging into this game,
- 18:41Speaker 4: and I'm pretty close to market with this number sitting
- 18:43Speaker 4: at 24, is that Dan Lanning mentioned the first meeting
- 18:46Speaker 4: between these two teams. So I don't think anybody on
- 18:48Speaker 4: the Oregon roster is going to get caught looking past
- 18:50Speaker 4: Boise in this particular spot.
- 18:53Speaker 3: If Boise finds themselves.
- 18:54Speaker 4: Behind the eight ball and is throwing the ball around
- 18:55Speaker 4: the yard, not a great recipe for Maddox Madsen. So
- 18:58Speaker 4: even if Oregon starts slow, I think they can pile
- 19:00Speaker 4: up the points late, would be much closer to backing
- 19:03Speaker 4: the favorite here than I would be that plucky Broncos
- 19:06Speaker 4: squad that doesn't look quite like some of the glory
- 19:09Speaker 4: days that we have seen up there in the Smurf turf.
- 19:11Speaker 5: In this space, Furman, we try to thread a lot
- 19:13Speaker 5: of needles, and I'm doing it here because I like
- 19:16Speaker 5: LSU's under for the season but i like clemson's over
- 19:20Speaker 5: i think clemson gets 10 wins but i think they
- 19:23Speaker 5: might i don't want to say get run off the
- 19:24Speaker 5: field but i do like lsu in this spot is
- 19:27Speaker 5: there too much hype too much exterior noise going on
- 19:31Speaker 5: for lsu to lay the 10 and a half in
- 19:32Speaker 5: this spot can.
- 19:34Speaker 4: We ever say there's too much exterior noise around a
- 19:36Speaker 4: late kiffin type program if we've learned one thing he
- 19:39Speaker 4: has at least been consistent in that particular regard. I
- 19:43Speaker 4: think I'm as fascinated, guys, as everyone else is to
- 19:45Speaker 4: see this LSU team the first time when they're facing
- 19:48Speaker 4: live bullets. I mean, Sam Leavitt, if he can be
- 19:50Speaker 4: the quarterback he was a couple of seasons ago leading
- 19:53Speaker 4: Arizona State to that improbable run to the college football playoff,
- 19:56Speaker 4: will insert himself in not only discussion for being one
- 19:58Speaker 4: of the best quarterbacks in the SEC, but a legitimate
- 20:01Speaker 4: contender to win the Heisman Trophy, knowing how Lane Kiffin
- 20:04Speaker 4: coaches up that particular position.
- 20:06Speaker 3: But will it all.
- 20:07Speaker 4: Gel right out of the gates, allowing LSU to win
- 20:10Speaker 4: this game by margin? You know, we've seen Clemson against
- 20:13Speaker 4: SEC foes in their opener each of the last couple
- 20:15Speaker 4: of years not quite look the part. Maybe this is
- 20:18Speaker 4: where Dabo feels a little bit more comfortable with that
- 20:21Speaker 4: underdog approach and a new starting quarterback in Chris Vizina.
- 20:25Speaker 4: But I think there's some correlation going on in this
- 20:27Speaker 4: game that if you like LSU, you make a case
- 20:29Speaker 4: for this game going over the total. because LSU starts
- 20:31Speaker 4: to play downhill and Clemson just doesn't have the firepower.
- 20:34Speaker 4: And on the flip side of things, if Clemson is
- 20:36Speaker 4: going to be competitive and a live underdog that they
- 20:38Speaker 4: need to try and put together long time consuming drives,
- 20:41Speaker 4: win the battles at the line of scrimmage, most notably
- 20:43Speaker 4: along the offensive line.
- 20:44Speaker 3: And I'll make a slight case to go under the
- 20:46Speaker 3: total in the first half.
- 20:47Speaker 4: If the LSU operation doesn't look crisp out of the gates,
- 20:50Speaker 4: And Clemson is able to try and put together some
- 20:52Speaker 4: longer drives, but 10, 10 and a half, very fair number.
- 20:56Speaker 4: This has really been a battle. We saw this price
- 20:57Speaker 4: get as high as 12 this off season. There was
- 21:00Speaker 4: a buy on the underdog. I am going to be
- 21:02Speaker 4: fascinated to see the next move we get on this game.
- 21:04Speaker 4: And our friends at hard rock bet, drop it below
- 21:06Speaker 4: the 10 to nine and a half, or the next
- 21:08Speaker 4: move takes it from 10 out to 10 and a
- 21:10Speaker 4: half kind of across the board.
- 21:11Speaker 1: My, my parlay to start this, start the morning off tomorrow.
- 21:15Speaker 4: I think your connection's breaking up done away. I think
- 21:19Speaker 4: the connection's breaking up around here.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Is Alabama minus the points and over their team total?
- 21:25Speaker 1: How do you like Alabama against East Carolina?
- 21:28Speaker 4: I mean, look, this is where my man Keelan Russell
- 21:30Speaker 4: decides to announce his Heisman Trophy campaign.
- 21:33Speaker 1: With a 40.
- 21:34Speaker 4: So I'm expecting him to go out there, throw for 300,
- 21:36Speaker 4: run for 200, have six touchdowns in what should be
- 21:40Speaker 4: 117-degree heat or whatever they're forecasting down there at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
- 21:45Speaker 4: But I would lean much more towards the Alabama side.
- 21:49Speaker 4: I do wonder how they're going to distribute some of
- 21:51Speaker 4: the reps late in the game if they're outside the number.
- 21:53Speaker 4: But ECU is a sell for me. this year have
- 21:55Speaker 4: some under 7.5 in their win total and think Alabama
- 21:58Speaker 4: can go out there and put up a crooked number.
- 22:00Speaker 4: But I'm very curious to see Keelan Russell lead this
- 22:02Speaker 4: offensive attack. I'm just glad, guys, that some of my
- 22:05Speaker 4: sources didn't let me down because I had a number
- 22:07Speaker 4: of Alabama fans telling me that I was completely wrong,
- 22:10Speaker 4: that Austin Mack was going to win the job. I
- 22:12Speaker 4: like to think the guys I talk to are right 90%
- 22:14Speaker 4: to 95% of the time when it comes to their information.
- 22:16Speaker 5: Okay, Furman, before we get you out of here, we
- 22:18Speaker 5: won't talk to you again until next Friday. We will
- 22:20Speaker 5: have two NFL games by then. The defending champions, I
- 22:24Speaker 5: hate to say it out loud, Seattle hosts New England.
- 22:27Speaker 5: More importantly, in Melbourne next Thursday night. I just find
- 22:31Speaker 5: it amazing right now that people are anointing my Rams,
- 22:34Speaker 5: a team that will.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Go out for sure win the Super Bowl.
- 22:36Speaker 5: We know the shortest favorite out there typically ever wins
- 22:40Speaker 5: the Super Bowl. But people are like, I can't believe
- 22:42Speaker 5: they're only a three-and-a-half point favorite. This is a 12-win
- 22:45Speaker 5: 49ers team that, you know this, backing them when they
- 22:48Speaker 5: go on the road to SoFi, and this is technically
- 22:50Speaker 5: a home game for the Rams tonight. is always free money.
- 22:54Speaker 5: I'm terrified the Rams are going to drop to 0-1 immediately.
- 22:58Speaker 3: You know, a couple things to unpack here.
- 23:00Speaker 4: Lance, I want to know why you haven't been in
- 23:01Speaker 4: that Rams front office telling them it's rat poison, listening
- 23:04Speaker 4: to all the buzz around them and how they have
- 23:07Speaker 4: to stay true to some of their on-field obligations and such.
- 23:10Speaker 4: And you mentioned, you know, how close these two teams
- 23:13Speaker 4: have been in the past. I mean, Kyle Shanahan always
- 23:16Speaker 4: seems to have a knack when he has a healthy
- 23:18Speaker 4: defense for being able to slow down some of Sean
- 23:20Speaker 4: McVay's offensive schemes. Should be a great chess match on
- 23:23Speaker 4: a variety of fronts. A little disappointed you weren't able
- 23:25Speaker 4: to negotiate usage of the sport and state private jet
- 23:28Speaker 4: to get you.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Down to Melbourne or.
- 23:30Speaker 4: Fly with the Rams team. But in terms of trying
- 23:33Speaker 4: to pick a winner here, I'm at the Rams minus four.
- 23:36Speaker 4: So I don't see a lot of wiggle room. The angle, though,
- 23:38Speaker 4: that I do think makes a world of sense is
- 23:40Speaker 4: looking to go under that first half total at twenty
- 23:43Speaker 4: four and a half. We know the Rams have typically
- 23:45Speaker 4: started slow because their first team doesn't get a lot
- 23:48Speaker 4: of reps in camp. And on the flip side of things,
- 23:50Speaker 4: I'm not sure what the 49ers are going to have
- 23:52Speaker 4: at their disposal in terms of playmakers offensively. CMC may
- 23:56Speaker 4: take a little while to ramp up. We're not sure
- 23:57Speaker 4: if George Kittle is even going to make the trip.
- 24:00Speaker 4: And when your number one receiver, at least potentially, could
- 24:02Speaker 4: be DeJuan Stribling out of Ole Miss, against this Rams
- 24:05Speaker 4: defense could be problematic. So I like the first half
- 24:08Speaker 4: total in that game under 24.5 quite a bit. And
- 24:11Speaker 4: since nobody else out there is paying attention to some
- 24:13Speaker 4: of the injury reports, if you happen to have access
- 24:15Speaker 4: to Ramondre Stevenson over under receptions, sitting at two and
- 24:18Speaker 4: a half, you do have to lay a price. Would
- 24:20Speaker 4: not be surprised, gentlemen, if Travion Henderson was not available
- 24:24Speaker 4: for the New England Patriots in their opener, meaning Ramondre
- 24:26Speaker 4: is going to get a bigger workload than advertised, especially
- 24:28Speaker 4: in the betting market.
- 24:29Speaker 1: All right, I promise we'll let you go. Do you
- 24:30Speaker 1: still have that hit after us? Do you need to
- 24:32Speaker 1: go right now? Nope.
- 24:33Speaker 4: I do not have to hit after you, but I
- 24:35Speaker 4: am worried that that's going to mean that I'm here
- 24:37Speaker 4: with you guys for like 45 minutes.
- 24:38Speaker 1: No, no, no, no.
- 24:39Speaker 4: That's problematic than anything else. I can only handle Dunaway
- 24:42Speaker 4: in such small doses.
- 24:44Speaker 1: I've got one more parlay for you before you get
- 24:46Speaker 1: out of here. No, everybody loves your under the radar
- 24:50Speaker 1: play in a, in a week where Lance told us
- 24:52Speaker 1: there are 40, 40 games that are three touchdowns or more.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Everything seems under the radar. Do you, do you have
- 24:58Speaker 1: one that we can watch?
- 25:00Speaker 3: So there was a game that I was going to
- 25:01Speaker 3: give out. The number has moved quite a bit.
- 25:03Speaker 4: And that was going to be Nevada as a three
- 25:05Speaker 4: point dog against Western Kentucky. So I had to dig
- 25:07Speaker 4: a little bit more this morning to try and find something.
- 25:11Speaker 4: And I'll go to a game that I think is
- 25:12Speaker 4: going to be a great watch for those folks that
- 25:14Speaker 4: are fans of G6 football. And that's between JMU and Liberty.
- 25:18Speaker 4: I'm going to take Liberty plus the points. I know
- 25:20Speaker 4: Liberty over the last couple of years has done nothing
- 25:22Speaker 4: but burn money at the betting window. I think at
- 25:25Speaker 4: last check six and 18 against the spread. the last
- 25:28Speaker 4: 24 games for the Flames. But this is going to
- 25:30Speaker 4: be a completely new look JMU team. And I think
- 25:32Speaker 4: Billy Napier will end up being a good hire for
- 25:34Speaker 4: them to keep them at the top of the Sunbelt
- 25:36Speaker 4: pecking order. But I'm just a buyer in Liberty from
- 25:39Speaker 4: top to bottom. I know people will go, wait a second,
- 25:41Speaker 4: Liberty hasn't even named a starting quarterback. I think Kanye Udo,
- 25:44Speaker 4: the transfer from Army to Arizona State in the backfield
- 25:47Speaker 4: will be their bell cow back and really believe the
- 25:49Speaker 4: Flames have an excellent opportunity to win this game outright.
- 25:52Speaker 3: So give me Liberty. on the money line.
- 25:54Speaker 4: If you can shop around and find them at six,
- 25:56Speaker 4: I have no problem with the points, but I personally
- 25:58Speaker 4: grabbed some seven, but did back them on the money
- 26:00Speaker 4: line at numbers that are currently available.
- 26:01Speaker 1: All right, there you go. There's your under the radar play.
- 26:03Speaker 1: You want my seven teamer?
- 26:05Speaker 4: I always want your seven teamer, because the greatest part
- 26:08Speaker 4: is I can close out of this window and I
- 26:10Speaker 4: won't have to listen or see you when you.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Give it up. My 17er teamer, Toledo plus the points,
- 26:20Speaker 1: Marshall plus the points, Arkansas State plus the points. Louisville
- 26:25Speaker 1: plus the points. Houston giving the points. Oregon giving the points.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Wisconsin getting the points.
- 26:33Speaker 3: So here's the thing.
- 26:34Speaker 4: The silver lining is I actually like a couple of
- 26:35Speaker 4: those legs that you've included, but I'm not going to
- 26:38Speaker 4: actually tell you which ones I do like because the
- 26:41Speaker 4: last thing I want to do is jinx myself going
- 26:43Speaker 4: into week one of the college football season. I will
- 26:46Speaker 4: hope you cash all seven because I am not against you,
- 26:49Speaker 4: at least on any of those.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Lance gets mad at me because I bet it is
- 26:52Speaker 1: a parlay. I don't bet him individually. He's the king
- 26:55Speaker 1: of going like.
- 26:56Speaker 5: Six, like I'm 6-1 today, but I lost money.
- 27:00Speaker 1: You know what, Lance?
- 27:00Speaker 4: Then we should both feel better then because if Dunaway
- 27:03Speaker 4: will lose a leg that we're not a part of,
- 27:04Speaker 4: all the other ones can win, and we'll be able
- 27:07Speaker 4: to try and reap a little bit of a windfall
- 27:09Speaker 4: on opening weekend while Dunaway comes away down a position.
- 27:11Speaker 5: Yeah, he did name one of my big plays tomorrow
- 27:14Speaker 5: in that seven-teamer.
- 27:16Speaker 1: You and Furman. Hey, Lance and Furman, they got some
- 27:18Speaker 1: of your legs there, don't they? I'd play that thing, man. No,
- 27:20Speaker 1: I've already played it.
- 27:22Speaker 5: Hey, and I love your– I think we have a
- 27:26Speaker 5: live dog in Liberty tomorrow.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Now, the only thing that scares me, early game, yeah. Yeah,
- 27:30Speaker 1: early game? That could be bad for JMU. BYOG, man,
- 27:33Speaker 1: you got to bring your own guts. Bring your own guts, yeah.
- 27:36Speaker 4: We'll see jamie chadwell's got to go out there and
- 27:38Speaker 4: produce and i think uh i know there were some
- 27:40Speaker 4: off the field stuff and some locker room chemistry issues
- 27:42Speaker 4: over the last couple years for liberty but uh i
- 27:45Speaker 4: really believe this is a year they can raise their
- 27:47Speaker 4: level of play win conference usa and if they're able
- 27:49Speaker 4: to win the game tomorrow uh against jmu look crazier
- 27:54Speaker 4: things have happened if there's chaos all over the g6
- 27:56Speaker 4: you know maybe liberty is able to get into the
- 27:59Speaker 4: discussion for the college football playoff uh an exact to
- 28:02Speaker 4: measure revenge for the bad taste that fiesta bowl a
- 28:04Speaker 4: couple of years ago against Oregon left in that entire program.
- 28:07Speaker 1: I got off to my best start last weekend and
- 28:09Speaker 1: week zero of college football since the pandemic, I was
- 28:11Speaker 1: one in two.
- 28:12Speaker 4: So only one way to go, but that's the way
- 28:17Speaker 4: I see it.
- 28:18Speaker 3: All right.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Bet the board podcast is back, baby. Go follow their

- 28:39Speaker 2: mean that sincerely. We love you, and have a great weekend.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Looking forward to it, guys.
- 28:44Speaker 4: Couldn't be more excited about this football season, everything it'll
- 28:46Speaker 4: bring with it. And Dunaway, I heard the tease before
- 28:48Speaker 4: I came on. The hat on my head is indeed
- 28:50Speaker 4: for an ECHL team. Here, look, I would love to
- 28:54Speaker 4: be wearing some of the next round live gear, but
- 28:56Speaker 4: none of it has seemed to make its way to
- 28:58Speaker 4: me over all these years.
- 28:58Speaker 1: So I'm waiting for that, Dunaway. Six years, six football seasons.
- 29:01Speaker 1: We've never sat firm in one t-shirt. We don't see him.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Now that we see him, it's worth us getting to
- 29:07Speaker 1: fly the flag. That's right. It's on the way. Send
- 29:09Speaker 1: us an address. We got it.
- 29:10Speaker 4: Yep.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Text me the address. I'll do what I can, boys.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Text me the address and sizes. Thank you, buddy. Take care.
- 29:15Speaker 2: All right, Todd Furman with us at Todd Furman on
- 29:18Speaker 2: social media, Bet the Board Podcast.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Should be noted, 28 minutes is his limit for us.
- 29:22Speaker 1: That's right.
- 29:23Speaker 6: Out.
- 29:23Speaker 1: He gets tired of us at 25 minutes, I think.
- 29:26Speaker 1: 28 minutes is too much. That's a long time, though.
- 29:28Speaker 1: It is.
- 29:29Speaker 5: I don't know when you do hits, but I was
- 29:31Speaker 5: doing one the other day, and I'm like, damn, I've
- 29:32Speaker 5: been on here for 30 minutes.
- 29:33Speaker 1: How long did I sign up for? I've done that, too. Yeah,
- 29:36Speaker 1: I've agreed to do it. They never tell me how long,
- 29:38Speaker 1: and then I realized, it's a whole podcast. You don't
- 29:41Speaker 1: have commercial breaks on here?
- 29:43Speaker 2: Lance is like, where are your sponsors, man?
- 29:45Speaker 1: You can't read an ad? Where are your sponsors? Let
- 29:47Speaker 1: me take a sip of something here. All right, when
- 29:50Speaker 1: we come back, more college football as we get rolling.
- 29:53Speaker 1: What's the best viewing experience tonight? We'll talk about some
- 29:56Speaker 1: more of the big game down in the bayou with
- 29:59Speaker 1: Clemson and LSU, the marquee game of the weekend. And
- 30:03Speaker 1: one scary thing in the NFL that would really make
- 30:07Speaker 1: me wonder, How much I'd pay this guy going forward.
- 30:10Speaker 1: All that still to come on the show when we
- 30:12Speaker 1: return on the next round presented by Hard Rock Bets
- 30:15Speaker 1: right here on Sporting State. Did you guys know this?
- 30:19Speaker 1: That there'll be volleyball at Wrigley Field this weekend. College
- 30:25Speaker 1: volleyball at Wrigley Field. Not sand volleyball on the court.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Volleyball apparently is one of the fastest growing most watched sports.
- 30:35Speaker 1: College volleyball on ESPN. I don't know how percentages work.
- 30:41Speaker 1: If nobody's watching and all of a sudden 10 people
- 30:43Speaker 1: are watching, it's grown a lot. But this will be
- 30:46Speaker 1: the third unique venue that they've played volleyball at in
- 30:51Speaker 1: these preseason tournaments. They played a tournament where the sort
- 30:56Speaker 1: of an heiress tournament for volleyball out where the Predators,
- 30:59Speaker 1: I mean, not the Predators, the Golden Knights play in
- 31:01Speaker 1: Las Vegas. They played a big volleyball tournament in Jerry's
- 31:06Speaker 1: World in Arlington. And now they're playing outdoor at Wrigley
- 31:10Speaker 1: Field this weekend, No. 3 Kentucky against No. 13 Penn
- 31:13Speaker 1: State at Wrigley Field.
- 31:14Speaker 2: All right, so Scott would be our volleyball expert. May
- 31:17Speaker 2: I ask Scott a question real quick? Because Scott's daughter,
- 31:19Speaker 2: for those of you new to the show, is a
- 31:21Speaker 2: college scholarship to volleyball player.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Correct. One thing that Wrigley Field is known most for
- 31:27Speaker 1: is what? Uh, I'd be on the walls. Baseball.
- 31:31Speaker 4: Yes.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Okay. Wind. Would this not be a pretty big factor?
- 31:35Speaker 1: Volleyball is, is very heavy Brown. I don't know.
- 31:40Speaker 3: If that's going to be much of an issue. The
- 31:43Speaker 3: ball doesn't spend that much time in the air.
- 31:45Speaker 1: It's a wind blowing out. But I disagree with you, Scott.
- 31:48Speaker 1: I know your daughter plays, and unlike me to tell
- 31:51Speaker 1: somebody who actually has knowledge of this. I'm not saying
- 31:54Speaker 1: no factor. But a beach volleyball is different than an
- 31:57Speaker 1: indoor volleyball for that reason. It is heavier. The beach
- 32:00Speaker 1: volleyball is. That's also on the oceanfront.
- 32:04Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 32:05Speaker 1: But Chicago is as windy as any oceanfront.
- 32:07Speaker 5: When the wind is blowing in or out of Wrigley,
- 32:09Speaker 5: I mean, it affects— You can go from a 7.5
- 32:13Speaker 5: total to an 11.5 total. I mean, it does definitely
- 32:16Speaker 5: affect what's going on as far as baseball.
- 32:19Speaker 1: My thing is, at Wrigley Field, it seems like they
- 32:23Speaker 1: do everything but play late-season baseball games. That's true.
- 32:29Speaker 3: I recently went to a concert there.
- 32:31Speaker 1: They're going to make the playoffs. They do concerts all
- 32:33Speaker 1: the time. They play football there. They're doing volleyball there.
- 32:36Speaker 1: They play hockey and that– Only in one end zone. Yeah,
- 32:39Speaker 1: the outdoor hockey, they play that there. It's a stadium series.
- 32:43Speaker 5: You know, Brown's daughter and my daughter, Leighton, played volleyball
- 32:46Speaker 5: together years ago, and we enjoy going to those games.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, it was indoors, air conditioning, a lot of action,
- 32:52Speaker 1: and they move quick.
- 32:52Speaker 5: But I cannot imagine watching somebody that's not a relative
- 32:56Speaker 5: of mine play volleyball.
- 32:57Speaker 3: Oh, I completely disagree. I watched the game on ESPN
- 33:00Speaker 3: Plus yesterday.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Fast-moving sport. It is.
- 33:02Speaker 5: You guys have taken it from 1,000 to 1,100 people now.
- 33:04Speaker 1: By the way, by the way.
- 33:08Speaker 3: They literally filled Nebraska's football stadium.
- 33:11Speaker 1: They didn't do that.
- 33:11Speaker 5: I mean, because they're not feeling it for football.
- 33:15Speaker 1: $ 30, 000 at the Georgia game this year. That was soccer.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Never mind. By the way. And by the way, name
- 33:20Speaker 1: one volleyball player in the world. Karch Karai. And you
- 33:24Speaker 1: can't go with the two chicks that played. Haley Forrester.
- 33:26Speaker 1: Haley Forrester. Freed Hardeman. Don't go with the two chicks
- 33:29Speaker 1: that played. Sand Volleyball. I can't remember their names. And
- 33:32Speaker 1: two back-to-back Olympics.
- 33:33Speaker 2: No, hey, I was going to tell you, last night,
- 33:37Speaker 2: was my first run through on the ESPN stuff being in.
- 33:40Speaker 1: My YouTube TV feed.
- 33:42Speaker 2: And the way I know that is without paying attention,
- 33:45Speaker 2: I just clicked on the icon for Georgia Tech, Colorado,
- 33:47Speaker 2: and they're interviewing Coach Prime before the game, only to
- 33:52Speaker 2: find out that I actually clicked on the ESPN Deportes
- 33:55Speaker 2: feed from the ESPN app.
- 33:58Speaker 1: So as soon as the interview's over, it's all in Spanish.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Like the play-by-play got serious Spanish. Did you keep rolling
- 34:02Speaker 1: with it? No, I was like, I'll do that next
- 34:04Speaker 1: week instead of Matt Berry. Yeah. I like Chase Daniel, though.
- 34:09Speaker 1: He's our guy. Yeah, Chase is good. I like Matt Berry.
- 34:12Speaker 1: Matt tries a little too hard. Oh, way too hard.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Strange things are not going to happen every Thursday night,
- 34:17Speaker 1: like he says. Yeah, we could probably dial that one back.
- 34:20Speaker 1: That got said a lot last night. Show being brought
- 34:22Speaker 1: to you by our friends at XXXY. We should send
- 34:25Speaker 1: this to Furman in Vegas. Send him an XXXY t-shirt.
- 34:29Speaker 2: I mean, he also works for Sporting State, so hopefully
- 34:31Speaker 2: he's getting that gear. I promise we're going to send
- 34:33Speaker 2: him some next round stuff. Jennifer Say founded XXXY, the
- 34:36Speaker 2: former national champion gymnast, former Levi's brand president. She had
- 34:41Speaker 2: a corporate job there and she walked away from it
- 34:42Speaker 2: rather than say something she did not believe in. And
- 34:44Speaker 2: when she walked away, she started XXXY Athletics.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Instead, the mission. I have no idea why this has
- 34:51Speaker 1: got volume on it.
- 34:52Speaker 2: The mission, in their words, empower female athletes to take
- 34:56Speaker 2: a stand for fair competition.
- 34:59Speaker 1: It is the tea that launched a movement. You can
- 35:02Speaker 1: also get Clay Travis official Nashville balls gear there. His
- 35:06Speaker 1: future WNBA franchise. This is a real athletic apparel. It
- 35:10Speaker 1: is not just a slogan on a shirt. It's performance tops.
- 35:13Speaker 1: It is tanks. It is sports bras. It is leggings.
- 35:15Speaker 1: It's shorts.
- 35:15Speaker 2: It's training sets, hoodies, hats, graphic tees. They've got men's
- 35:19Speaker 2: clothing and women's clothing. This is worn by athletes that
- 35:22Speaker 2: have put something on the line. And new customers get 20%
- 35:25Speaker 2: off your first order when you sign up. Free shipping
- 35:28Speaker 2: over $ 100 as well.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Here's how you do it. XXXYAthletics.com. That is XX-XYAthletics.com.
- 35:35Speaker 2: Listen.
- 35:39Speaker 1: He was unbelievable in college. And he was off to
- 35:43Speaker 1: a great start with the Giants. But wake up, Kay.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Kay Adams had Cam Scadaboo on this week. And Cam
- 35:51Speaker 1: Scadaboo said he considered retirement last year. That he had
- 35:57Speaker 1: one rule as he was going to the NFL. Don't
- 35:59Speaker 1: break your leg. That if I ever have a major injury,
- 36:02Speaker 1: I'm shutting it down. And he had a fractured tibia,
- 36:07Speaker 1: a ruptured deltoid, and a dislocated right ankle just after
- 36:13Speaker 1: seven games, and he was off to a great start.
- 36:16Speaker 1: And for the rest of the season, he thought he
- 36:19Speaker 1: was retiring, and he said it was week 18 is
- 36:22Speaker 1: when he decided in the rehab process that he wasn't
- 36:25Speaker 1: going to shut it down. He's going to be full
- 36:28Speaker 1: go week one against the Cowboys. He's coming back. I
- 36:32Speaker 1: think he's a baller. But if you're in the front
- 36:35Speaker 1: office and you hear that, Does that raise any red flags? Well,
- 36:40Speaker 1: it raised a red flag.
- 36:41Speaker 5: I mean, you got him late, so you got a
- 36:43Speaker 5: great value player right now. But look, when this rookie
- 36:47Speaker 5: contract ends and when you're playing for your rookie contract
- 36:49Speaker 5: in that fourth year going into the fifth year, I
- 36:52Speaker 5: don't care how productive he's been.
- 36:54Speaker 1: That's got to be something that.
- 36:55Speaker 5: You really, really have to process and figure out long-term.
- 36:59Speaker 5: I mean, it's difficult for those running backs to get
- 37:01Speaker 5: that second contract to begin with. But when you hear that,
- 37:05Speaker 5: and that's surprising because he seems like one of those
- 37:07Speaker 5: guys that– I mean, you literally would have to. You
- 37:10Speaker 5: could dismember him before you take him off the field.
- 37:12Speaker 1: The way he plays, it's like football is life. He
- 37:15Speaker 1: would run through razor blades for you. I mean, it
- 37:19Speaker 1: is a bit. I kind of lived through a little.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Bit of this with Tua as the Dolphins quarterback because
- 37:26Speaker 2: after so many concussions, there was always this discussion that
- 37:29Speaker 2: people were trying to get him to walk away. And
- 37:32Speaker 2: then you're like, Miami decided to give him a long-term contract,
- 37:35Speaker 2: which they're now greatly regretting because they're paying for him
- 37:38Speaker 2: to be a Falcon, paying him very handsomely to be.
- 37:40Speaker 1: A Falcon, in fact. So you do start to worry
- 37:44Speaker 1: about that. I mean, that's one year in, though, right?
- 37:47Speaker 2: Tua at least had played, what, four or five years
- 37:50Speaker 2: before any of that really started to be a true discussion.
- 37:53Speaker 1: And listen, there's nothing more lonely in sports than rehab,
- 37:57Speaker 1: especially during the season, because everyone else is practicing, They're
- 38:01Speaker 1: playing games. They're getting the reward for their hard work.
- 38:03Speaker 1: And in rehab, you're just up every day doing the painful,
- 38:07Speaker 1: hard work to get back. So I know how dark
- 38:11Speaker 1: it can be sometimes. But for somebody year one in
- 38:14Speaker 1: a sport that just ravages your body, and for him
- 38:17Speaker 1: to admit on a very popular podcast with Kay Adams
- 38:22Speaker 1: that my rule going in to the NFL was if
- 38:25Speaker 1: I had a major injury, I was going to shut
- 38:27Speaker 1: it down. And he has had one. And he said,
- 38:30Speaker 1: I thought about shutting it down, but I'm back and
- 38:32Speaker 1: I'm full, ready to go. I don't know if I,
- 38:36Speaker 1: with my organization, I don't know if I give him
- 38:37Speaker 1: that next contract. He's young. He's going to learn.
- 38:41Speaker 5: I mean, how many guys that were driving in and
- 38:43Speaker 5: their favorite part of their day was stopping at Dunkin'
- 38:45Speaker 5: Donuts and getting a coffee hearing this. And like, I'm
- 38:48Speaker 5: going to this job that I've been working for 25
- 38:50Speaker 5: years and I absolutely hate it. So like, you know,
- 38:54Speaker 5: the option is, you know, rehab would suck. But at
- 38:58Speaker 5: the same time, you're playing professional football and making millions
- 39:01Speaker 5: of dollars.
- 39:01Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 39:02Speaker 2: I mean, it does seem like you almost want to
- 39:06Speaker 2: say to the guy, you know, like pretty much what
- 39:10Speaker 2: Lance is saying. Do you know how many people trade
- 39:11Speaker 2: spaces with you right now?
- 39:12Speaker 7: Yes.
- 39:13Speaker 2: And they would play through any rehab and they would
- 39:15Speaker 2: put their body right back out on the line for
- 39:18Speaker 2: any injury.
- 39:20Speaker 1: For that kind of money.
- 39:20Speaker 5: Oh, that would step over your dead carcass to make 20%
- 39:24Speaker 5: of what you're making.
- 39:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:25Speaker 1: I just, I'm with you. Like, if I'm the Giants,
- 39:28Speaker 1: I want to see through the rest of this.
- 39:30Speaker 2: This rookie contract that this guy is 100% dedicated to
- 39:32Speaker 2: being a New York Giant.
- 39:33Speaker 5: And I am fascinated to see the Giants this year
- 39:35Speaker 5: because I think Jackson Dart surprised all of us with
- 39:37Speaker 5: the impact he made immediately. But if Scadaboo can come
- 39:40Speaker 5: back and play at that level, Malik Nabors coming off
- 39:43Speaker 5: a major injury as well, The New York Giants, with
- 39:46Speaker 5: a proven head coach, and we've talked about this before,
- 39:48Speaker 5: and what you've got defensively attacking the quarterback, they could
- 39:52Speaker 5: be a big surprise. I think it could start this
- 39:54Speaker 5: weekend against Dallas. Is Najee Harris second on that depth chart?
- 39:57Speaker 5: Is he the actual backup?
- 39:58Speaker 1: I think he is.
- 39:59Speaker 2: I know he made the 53, man. I think he's
- 40:01Speaker 2: the backup to Skadaboo. If Skadaboo's out, it's going to
- 40:05Speaker 2: be Najee Harris time.
- 40:06Speaker 1: That's in a division that is known for flipping around
- 40:10Speaker 1: and having different champions all the time. There is no
- 40:12Speaker 1: consistency in the NFC East. We'll do more of our
- 40:15Speaker 1: predictions on the NFL standings coming up Monday Tuesday and
- 40:18Speaker 1: Wednesday before we crank up the Wednesday opener next week
- 40:23Speaker 1: New England Seattle and then Thursday next week you get
- 40:26Speaker 1: a little Los Angeles and San Francisco Rams and Niners
- 40:29Speaker 1: down in Australia one more thing before we take our
- 40:32Speaker 1: break and we'll talk about the big games in college
- 40:34Speaker 1: football in our final segment the this is non-sports do
- 40:38Speaker 1: you guys know what the fastest growing demographic is in
- 40:41Speaker 1: the United States The fastest growing demographic in the United States.
- 40:44Speaker 1: So what are you asking, age, nationality?
- 40:47Speaker 5: I would go non-drinkers under the age of 25.
- 40:51Speaker 1: Non-drinking is way down. Men who have no kids and
- 40:58Speaker 1: no marriage plans. They plan to spend their whole life
- 41:00Speaker 1: not married and have no kids.
- 41:02Speaker 5: Oh, there's a lot of women like that too. I've
- 41:05Speaker 5: seen this discussion before because there's so many people and
- 41:08Speaker 5: this This sounds like a selfish discussion, like, hey, I
- 41:11Speaker 5: want to keep all my money and be able to
- 41:13Speaker 5: travel when I want. I mean, you know, once you're
- 41:15Speaker 5: an empty nester, you can kind of get that to
- 41:17Speaker 5: a degree.
- 41:18Speaker 1: Finance was the number one reason why they said they
- 41:21Speaker 1: were choosing that lifestyle.
- 41:22Speaker 5: Now, this is old man on the lawn, get off
- 41:24Speaker 5: my lawn. But the world is different. Like, I know
- 41:27Speaker 5: we heard it back in the day, like, oh, this
- 41:29Speaker 5: place is.
- 41:29Speaker 1: Burning and going to hell.
- 41:31Speaker 5: But raising a kid in today's world is completely different.
- 41:35Speaker 1: I'm a little older than you guys, but I truly
- 41:37Speaker 1: believe that Every generation says that. And they've always said that. Oh,
- 41:42Speaker 1: they've all said it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. For years. The
- 41:44Speaker 1: older you get, the more you feel that way, I'm sure.
- 41:45Speaker 1: But I've seen like somewhere on the beach in North Carolina,
- 41:48Speaker 1: there was an old man saying, these Wright brothers, the
- 41:52Speaker 1: world's going to hell. You guys give me the robots, though.
- 41:55Speaker 1: That's true.
- 41:55Speaker 5: No, and that's that's that's one of them. You look
- 41:58Speaker 5: at the pandemic we went through. That has become a
- 42:00Speaker 5: big time reality. Look, I mean, I've been an immature
- 42:04Speaker 5: adult for decades now, so I feel like I've seen
- 42:07Speaker 5: enough life and how much things have changed with technology.
- 42:11Speaker 2: But if you think about it, the younger you are,
- 42:14Speaker 2: the world you live in is the only world you've known,
- 42:16Speaker 2: so you don't– necessarily saying i was going to hell
- 42:20Speaker 2: the older you get as it changes you're like but
- 42:22Speaker 2: i remember the one i used to live in and
- 42:24Speaker 2: i enjoyed that one way.
- 42:25Speaker 8: Better every time i see a video of like a
- 42:29Speaker 8: 50s or 60s appliance like one of those stoves where
- 42:33Speaker 8: you can like flip it up and you can like
- 42:35Speaker 8: cook eggs on this side and grill pancakes on the
- 42:37Speaker 8: other side i think Yeah, the world is.
- 42:40Speaker 1: Going to hell.
- 42:41Speaker 8: We don't have anything that would last remotely that long now.
- 42:45Speaker 1: No, you're right. Stuff lasted longer back then, yeah. But
- 42:47Speaker 1: I also think people are shittier than they used to be.
- 42:49Speaker 1: But they said the same thing in the 60s. We
- 42:51Speaker 1: love the show Mad Men. They said the same thing
- 42:53Speaker 1: in the 60s. They say it in the 70s and
- 42:55Speaker 1: the 80s and the 90s. It's just life. When you
- 42:59Speaker 1: get older, you look back and you're like, man, it
- 43:00Speaker 1: was simpler when I was in my 20s. Yeah.
- 43:04Speaker 5: I would really hesitate with bringing– I mean, there is
- 43:07Speaker 5: nothing better than family.
- 43:09Speaker 1: There's nothing better than kids if they're yours. But I
- 43:13Speaker 1: would really hesitate on bringing a kid into this world.
- 43:15Speaker 1: My opinion. The good news is medically you cannot, I believe.
- 43:18Speaker 1: But I think people said that in the 80s about God,
- 43:21Speaker 1: you know, with the Russians and this Cold War. I
- 43:24Speaker 1: wouldn't bring a kid into this world. They're just going
- 43:26Speaker 1: to die in a nuclear attack. So college football when
- 43:30Speaker 1: we come back. The big games this weekend. Would you
- 43:33Speaker 1: rather have a marquee opener or, I don't know, an
- 43:37Speaker 1: easy win against UMass as an opener? We'll talk about
- 43:40Speaker 1: marquee matchups. Coming up in about 45 minutes, a very
- 43:45Speaker 1: intelligent money-making businessman named Alexander Shannara will make his picks
- 43:51Speaker 1: of the week on our show. That's about 45 minutes
- 43:55Speaker 1: from now. And a whole lot of fun with our
- 43:57Speaker 1: pick three in our final two hours as well. And
- 43:59Speaker 1: I'm told we've got cocktails in the final two hours
- 44:02Speaker 1: of the show. All that straight ahead right here on
- 44:05Speaker 1: the next round presented by Hard Rock Bets on Sporting State.
- 44:09Speaker 1: North Carolina story with Lombardi resigning the general manager. And
- 44:15Speaker 1: now there's investigation continuing into drug use inside the program.
- 44:21Speaker 1: And maybe, according to reports, I think W.R.A.L. Sexual relationships
- 44:27Speaker 1: between recruiting staffers and at least one player and coaches
- 44:32Speaker 1: and recruiting staffers. You know what this is? You see this.
- 44:36Speaker 2: This is somebody ready to be done with Belichick.
- 44:39Speaker 1: And this stuff starts to leak out from the inside.
- 44:40Speaker 1: You don't pay a buyout. You don't pay a buyout.
- 44:42Speaker 2: This is how these things work is when the coach
- 44:44Speaker 2: gets on the wrong side of the booster or somebody.
- 44:47Speaker 1: They're ready to be done. They don't want to pay
- 44:49Speaker 1: the buyout. With calls.
- 44:51Speaker 5: And Lombardi to resign means he gets not a dime.
- 44:55Speaker 1: That's right. So how bad is this? It won't be
- 44:58Speaker 1: the last one.
- 44:58Speaker 2: And I think we learned from reading that story that
- 45:02Speaker 2: medical leave is at best misleading.
- 45:05Speaker 1: For the younger Belichick of the D.C.? Yes. I mean,
- 45:08Speaker 1: that was a messy story.
- 45:10Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 45:10Speaker 1: As I tweeted last night when I saw the WRAL report,
- 45:13Speaker 1: I said, this is getting ugly. Yeah. Yeah. But they
- 45:16Speaker 1: won the game. Last week. That ain't going to save him.
- 45:20Speaker 1: We'll see what they do in the future. Our friends
- 45:22Speaker 1: at Crockett Coffee get you up and ready to go

- 46:26Speaker 1: good work. CrockettCoffee.com. That's C-R. O C K E T
- 46:32Speaker 1: Crockett coffee.com. Here is a Louisville head coach, Jeff Braun
- 46:37Speaker 1: on whether opening with a marquee game has been the
- 46:41Speaker 1: team has had the team more focused. Louisville starts with
- 46:44Speaker 1: Ole Miss. It's one of the biggest games, the more
- 46:46Speaker 1: entertaining games of the weekend. Here's the Louisville head coach.
- 46:51Speaker 6: I think it has, I think, uh, coaching wise and
- 46:54Speaker 6: preparation wise, uh, we, we know what's at stake and, uh,
- 47:00Speaker 6: It's going to require our best. We've got to continue
- 47:03Speaker 6: to be sharp this week and make sure on game
- 47:06Speaker 6: day we know exactly what we're doing, we're able to
- 47:09Speaker 6: play fast, we're able to play hard and play with
- 47:12Speaker 6: some energy and compete to the end. When these opponents
- 47:19Speaker 6: show up game one, you better come ready to play.
- 47:23Speaker 6: I just think that it definitely has made us all...
- 47:27Speaker 6: really concentrating and honing on the details, and hopefully that
- 47:31Speaker 6: continues this week as we ramp up for the game.
- 47:34Speaker 1: Is there a chance this is the most entertaining game
- 47:36Speaker 1: of the weekend? Yeah, it could be.
- 47:37Speaker 5: I think there's more knowns for Louisville. I mean, look,
- 47:40Speaker 5: you've got consistency in that program, three consecutive years, nine wins.
- 47:43Speaker 5: He's done it every single year with a different starting quarterback,
- 47:45Speaker 5: albeit good quarterbacks.
- 47:47Speaker 1: Kynholtz should be a really good quarterback.
- 47:49Speaker 5: You've got two running backs that averaged over 6.5 yards
- 47:51Speaker 5: per carry.
- 47:52Speaker 1: That's the key to the game to me. Can Ole Miss,
- 47:54Speaker 1: with Pete Golden, great defense, Can they match up? Can
- 47:56Speaker 1: they run gap against those Louisville running back and limit
- 48:00Speaker 1: explosive plays?
- 48:00Speaker 5: Isaac Brown, 8.8 yards per carry lead power for in
- 48:04Speaker 5: that number.
- 48:05Speaker 1: And on the other side, like Ole Miss, what are
- 48:07Speaker 1: we going to get offensively?
- 48:08Speaker 5: You know, you've got, you know, you've got Kiwan Lacey,
- 48:11Speaker 5: you got Trinidad Chambliss, but how good overall is the
- 48:15Speaker 5: play calling going to be in the fluidity of that
- 48:17Speaker 5: Ole Miss offense? I, I like Louisville in this game
- 48:21Speaker 5: and I think it's going to be really tough.
- 48:22Speaker 2: I like Louisville in this game too. Um, I worry
- 48:25Speaker 2: about the same thing Lance worries about. Trinidad Chambliss, world
- 48:28Speaker 2: beater last year. Even with Charlie Weiss and Lane Kiffin back,
- 48:32Speaker 2: it was going to be tough for Trinidad Chambliss to
- 48:34Speaker 2: match that.
- 48:35Speaker 1: Even with those two guys back. Yeah, I would agree.
- 48:36Speaker 2: But now you take those two guys out, you change
- 48:39Speaker 2: play callers, offensive philosophies. Can Trinidad Chambliss be the guy
- 48:43Speaker 2: he was last year? I don't think he can. And
- 48:47Speaker 2: I think Ole Miss is going to take a little
- 48:48Speaker 2: bit of a step back as much as I like Golding.
- 48:50Speaker 2: I think it's a tight game that Ole Miss wins,
- 48:51Speaker 2: but I think this, to your point, entertaining, close, however
- 48:54Speaker 2: you want to label this. It's going to be tough
- 48:56Speaker 2: to be closer than last night, but I think this
- 48:58Speaker 2: will be one of the most entertaining games of the weekend.
- 49:00Speaker 5: Speaking of last night, I could see this be better
- 49:04Speaker 5: versions of teams, but kind of the way last night
- 49:07Speaker 5: played out.
- 49:07Speaker 1: Like Colorado-Georgia Tech. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 49:09Speaker 5: But, I mean, these teams are going to be much
- 49:11Speaker 5: better than those two teams, but I could see a
- 49:13Speaker 5: play on special teams be the difference in this game.
- 49:16Speaker 2: Weird scheduling for Louisville. You know they play Friday night,
- 49:19Speaker 2: so they got a Sunday announced Villanova, who had a terrible...
- 49:22Speaker 2: loss in week zero, but they play Friday night. So
- 49:24Speaker 2: a Sunday night, Friday night game. You don't see, you
- 49:26Speaker 2: don't see that turnaround very often.
- 49:27Speaker 1: Probably the only way Brom signed off was it being Villanova.
- 49:30Speaker 1: Because check to see who they play week three. SMU.
- 49:33Speaker 1: That's right. It's a meaningful game. So they play on
- 49:35Speaker 1: that Friday against nobody to give them a long week.
- 49:38Speaker 1: And they could play on Wednesday.
- 49:39Speaker 5: Villanova still has their head in their ass from the
- 49:41Speaker 5: way they lost the game last week.
- 49:43Speaker 1: Absolutely. Here is John Summerall of Florida. on what the
- 49:48Speaker 1: expectations are, in his opinion, for his football team. And
- 49:52Speaker 1: I want your thoughts on what the expectations are for
- 49:54Speaker 1: the Gators as well after you hear the head coach.
- 49:57Speaker 7: You know, it's great for fans, maybe media, I don't know,
- 50:02Speaker 7: to go, well, this would be a good year. I
- 50:06Speaker 7: don't have time to, you know, it's a good year
- 50:09Speaker 7: to me whenever a game you play.
- 50:11Speaker 1: Win them all. It's a good year.
- 50:13Speaker 7: Win a championship.
- 50:13Speaker 1: That's a great year.
- 50:15Speaker 7: But, like, I'm not, I think you can limit what
- 50:18Speaker 7: you can accomplish when you start to go, well, this
- 50:20Speaker 7: would be good enough. And I think you start to
- 50:22Speaker 7: put maybe some undue pressure on yourself when you're like, well,
- 50:25Speaker 7: this is what the benchmark needs to be. I think
- 50:28Speaker 7: when you have really high standards, the word I use
- 50:31Speaker 7: a lot of standards, when you have really high standards,
- 50:35Speaker 7: then things work out usually for you. But the expectation
- 50:39Speaker 7: of Florida is championships in every sport, not just football.
- 50:42Speaker 7: That's part of what drew me here. I know there's certain–
- 50:47Speaker 7: Certain scoreboard outcomes that people would love to go, well,
- 50:50Speaker 7: that's what a success is. Success to me is 1-0
- 50:53Speaker 7: every week. And we go 1-0 every week, I think
- 50:55Speaker 7: everybody would be really damn happy.
- 50:58Speaker 1: Love it. So what are the real expectations? Without him
- 51:01Speaker 1: listening to our show right now, what do we think
- 51:03Speaker 1: Florida is?
- 51:04Speaker 5: So this is a guy in four years, two at Troy,
- 51:06Speaker 5: two at Tulane, averaged right at 11 wins per season.
- 51:09Speaker 1: That's right. In four years. Is that three championships? Three
- 51:12Speaker 1: championships in four years.
- 51:14Speaker 5: The thing about Summerall is, and you hear this from
- 51:16Speaker 5: all coaches, and it's not about the coaches, it's about
- 51:18Speaker 5: the players.
- 51:19Speaker 1: They've got some players.
- 51:21Speaker 5: And I think culture can flip two or three wins
- 51:25Speaker 5: going from losses to wins. He is going to build
- 51:28Speaker 5: an incredible culture there. I don't know what the offense
- 51:30Speaker 5: is going to look like with Aaron Filo, but I
- 51:33Speaker 5: did see a big difference in the Georgia Tech offense
- 51:36Speaker 5: from Buster Faulkner leaving there, now at Florida with Aaron Filo.
- 51:41Speaker 5: I think they're going to be one of the surprise teams.
- 51:43Speaker 5: They've got a difficult schedule, but I kind of think
- 51:45Speaker 5: the floor is seven wins. I think they could, if
- 51:48Speaker 5: things break right, this could be like a crazy 10-2 team.
- 51:51Speaker 1: I really do. I think, I hate to say it. Yeah.
- 51:58Speaker 1: But they could be what Indiana was the first year
- 52:01Speaker 1: for Signetti, except that was a crappy schedule. Florida would
- 52:05Speaker 1: have to be a lot of good teams. Well, the
- 52:06Speaker 1: difference there was culture. It really was. The players got
- 52:10Speaker 1: better because the coaching was so good. And 25 transfers.
- 52:13Speaker 1: And 25 transfers. But, you know, they've all got transfers
- 52:16Speaker 1: at this point. I would.
- 52:19Speaker 1: I mean, 10 wins seems really, really bold. I said
- 52:21Speaker 1: everything breaks right.
- 52:22Speaker 2: Everything breaks right. I mean, that would be one. You're
- 52:25Speaker 2: talking Coach of the Year at that point now for
- 52:26Speaker 2: that turnaround.
- 52:27Speaker 5: Make your point because I just want to give you
- 52:28Speaker 5: the games that are unwinnable right now with Florida.
- 52:31Speaker 2: My point is going to be, I think for both coaches,
- 52:34Speaker 2: though one of them is not in this conversation currently,
- 52:36Speaker 2: that Florida at Auburn game is almost a fulcrum game. Yeah.
- 52:42Speaker 1: If I could. Week three. Week three for both of
- 52:45Speaker 1: those seasons. Jordan-Hare Stadium and Auburn. You let me know
- 52:48Speaker 1: who wins that game, and I'll tell you, do I
- 52:51Speaker 1: think they can get to ten wins? Do I think
- 52:53Speaker 1: Alex Skolish and Auburn could get to eight or nine wins?
- 52:54Speaker 1: I may be able to let you know that tomorrow
- 52:56Speaker 1: about 630. Yeah, I'd feel a lot better.
- 52:58Speaker 5: These are all swing games to me for Florida, so
- 53:00Speaker 5: they could go either way. We start with at Auburn
- 53:03Speaker 5: on September 19th. Ole Miss coming into the Swamp. That
- 53:06Speaker 5: is a swing game.
- 53:07Speaker 1: It's a winnable game. Very winnable. At Missouri. At Missouri.
- 53:10Speaker 5: Very winnable game. South Carolina at home, a game they
- 53:13Speaker 5: should win.
- 53:13Speaker 1: They go to Texas, I'll give them a loss there. Although, physically,
- 53:17Speaker 1: they beat Texas around last year. I'll even say they're
- 53:20Speaker 1: a loss to Georgia, neutral site.
- 53:22Speaker 5: But then they host Oklahoma, they go to Kentucky, they
- 53:24Speaker 5: host Vanderbilt, they go to Florida State. All these swing
- 53:27Speaker 5: games have got to go their way, but if they do,
- 53:29Speaker 5: I think they're 10-2.
- 53:30Speaker 2: Again, Week 3 and Auburn, that is such a massive
- 53:34Speaker 2: game for both those new staffs.
- 53:35Speaker 1: That would be a.
- 53:39Speaker 1: An unbelievable season but that is doable all those toss-up
- 53:42Speaker 1: games are doable i mean there's flaws and uh even
- 53:46Speaker 1: in texas that you put down as a loss there
- 53:49Speaker 1: and i don't think.
- 53:50Speaker 5: Like i you go on the road to missouri and
- 53:53Speaker 5: auburn i'll say they split there so that's one more
- 53:55Speaker 5: loss that makes three and then i'll say that they
- 53:58Speaker 5: split um what was it home games with old miss
- 54:02Speaker 5: and oklahoma so you know i i think seven or
- 54:06Speaker 5: eight wins is probably the number but again if everything breaks.
- 54:08Speaker 1: Yeah In our local segment, pick three is coming up.
- 54:11Speaker 1: Surprise starter and wide receiver for Alabama. What Keelan Russell
- 54:15Speaker 1: is doing with his debut. DJ Durkin's defense, the reason
- 54:20Speaker 1: Auburn beats Baylor. We'll talk about all that when we
- 54:23Speaker 1: come back. For those of you watching on Sport and State,
