- 1:46Speaker 1: Got Caleb working the board, so I know I'm on
- 1:48Speaker 1: all times. Gott Riley taking non existent calls. You know,
- 1:53Speaker 1: it's really strange because he's out there talking to herself.
- 1:55Speaker 1: So that way, you know, that way you can get
- 1:56Speaker 1: a call. It's not a bad thing to do. Uh.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Interesting thing. I talked to a guy a couple two
- 2:05Speaker 1: weeks ago. Maybe was I am the state head guy
- 2:15Speaker 1: for the for the Heisman Trophy and the Heisman Trophy.
- 2:21Speaker 1: There's there's talk out there with the playoffs expanding as
- 2:26Speaker 1: they have to twelve teams, and of course everybode thinks
- 2:30Speaker 1: it'll soon be to sixteen games. There's a thought out
- 2:34Speaker 1: there should the Heisman Trophy be awarded after the season,
- 2:41Speaker 1: not after the regular season? Should that way? Is there
- 2:45Speaker 1: a better chance they would honor the sports best player?
- 2:52Speaker 1: So I know they I know guys doing a story
- 2:55Speaker 1: in I want to say Illinois, they say, did go
- 3:03Speaker 1: ahead and get the thoughts of all the state chairmen.
- 3:10Speaker 1: They did go ahead and pull them what their thoughts were.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Think about that? And my immediate reaction was the one
- 3:19Speaker 1: that I sent in was I like it the way
- 3:22Speaker 1: it is. And I actually did some research the game.
- 3:28Speaker 1: The college football game is resembling the NFL more and
- 3:31Speaker 1: more of the NFL. They voted their Player of the
- 3:34Speaker 1: Year after the last regular season game. Votes are in.
- 3:38Speaker 1: They don't name it till late later, but they don't
- 3:40Speaker 1: include the postseason games. My deal is, if you include
- 3:46Speaker 1: the postseason, those games carry more weight. And I get it.
- 3:54Speaker 1: And it's such a quarterback driven game anymore. If you
- 4:00Speaker 1: got a guy, let's say, usually quarterback wins, right, and
- 4:04Speaker 1: if you've got a running back like somehow he had
- 4:06Speaker 1: a great season and rush for twenty eight hundred yards
- 4:10Speaker 1: and is he going to make it? You know at
- 4:13Speaker 1: the quarterback. I just think by adding the extra games,
- 4:18Speaker 1: and I think the Hesman Trophy people are gonna would
- 4:20Speaker 1: love extended. We think about it. You get three more weeks,
- 4:23Speaker 1: three or four more weeks of plugging the Heisman Trophy.
- 4:27Speaker 1: So just food for thought that I think that's what's
- 4:31Speaker 1: you know, will will that change? That could be changing,
- 4:34Speaker 1: And of course the only reason it wouldn't change would
- 4:38Speaker 1: be because of tv TV rules. You can have all
- 4:42Speaker 1: the you know, polls you want to and do all
- 4:45Speaker 1: the things you want to, but go ahead, show me
- 4:49Speaker 1: the money. Uh SEC media days. Speaking about that, I
- 4:54Speaker 1: hopped all around. They did announce who's going to be
- 4:59Speaker 1: the play there forty eight of the best players in
- 5:03Speaker 1: the in the country. A and M is gone with
- 5:08Speaker 1: on next Wednesday. Okay, I pulled out the wrong piece
- 5:15Speaker 1: of paper, but I got a lot of papers. Bear
- 5:19Speaker 1: with me or or don't bear with me. Quarterback Marcel Reid,
- 5:25Speaker 1: safety Marcus Ratcliffe, and linebacker Damien Sandford. Okay, first thing
- 5:32Speaker 1: I saw those, I think, like all you thought. Oh
- 5:35Speaker 1: Sandford injured first half of them, random wade game, horrific injury. Okay,
- 5:43Speaker 1: he's going to be at SEC MEETIA days. He must
- 5:46Speaker 1: be close to playing. I'll go at the Dallas A
- 5:49Speaker 1: and M Club. But no comment, no update, just thank
- 5:52Speaker 1: everybody for the prayers and whatever. But he was confident
- 5:55Speaker 1: that he will play at some Sandford would play at sometime.
- 5:58Speaker 1: What have you in the in the in the season. Okay,
- 6:02Speaker 1: after I started writing put up the story online, I'm thinking, Okay,
- 6:06Speaker 1: you step back, who should A and M have taken?
- 6:11Speaker 1: Or should there be somebody else? And usually when you
- 6:15Speaker 1: look at it logically, things usually have a logical response.
- 6:20Speaker 1: A and M has five captains voted on by the
- 6:24Speaker 1: players as the best players on the team, the leaders. Okay,
- 6:29Speaker 1: that's three of them. The other two were Dalton Brooks,
- 6:35Speaker 1: safety Mchaaah Michaya or Micah Riley tide end. Okay, if
- 6:43Speaker 1: you gotta take three of those guys, which the SEC
- 6:45Speaker 1: limits you to three, you're not gonna take two safeties.
- 6:49Speaker 1: So you're not gonna take one of those. So is
- 6:52Speaker 1: it a Brooks or Ratcliffe? Simple? Simple deal. You take
- 6:58Speaker 1: one of those guys. Riley is a tied end who
- 7:02Speaker 1: has zero catches, He's a blocker. I'm probably not gonna
- 7:07Speaker 1: take him.
- 7:08Speaker 4: So.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Simple math leaves you with read Ratcliffe and Sandford. Now,
- 7:15Speaker 1: as far as the injuries concerned, I don't think that
- 7:18Speaker 1: plays into it, and once again I don't. I'm not
- 7:21Speaker 1: speaking for Mike Galcolm. I'm reading tea leaves and sports
- 7:24Speaker 1: writers A lot of times. You gotta read tea leaves
- 7:27Speaker 1: and I like iced tea, so that's I think that's
- 7:29Speaker 1: a plus here. And here's the deal about injuries. We
- 7:33Speaker 1: always ask a lot of questions about injuries. Coaches don't
- 7:36Speaker 1: give a lot of answers. I understand, you've got the
- 7:38Speaker 1: hippo laws, and a lot of coaches go, why should
- 7:41Speaker 1: I give my injuries when the other guy isn't given him.
- 7:44Speaker 1: We've got the injury report during the season. I get
- 7:46Speaker 1: it all that, But here's what happens. Caleb might be
- 7:52Speaker 1: at fifty percent today on that board. I don't know
- 7:55Speaker 1: he's punching in things. I hope he's at one hundred percent.
- 7:58Speaker 1: I don't know. You know, a month from now, you
- 8:02Speaker 1: might say, like, hey, I had arthritic fingers. I was
- 8:05Speaker 1: really hurting that day you were in you know you
- 8:07Speaker 1: you were horrible. But I couldn't say anything any when
- 8:09Speaker 1: he chipped to get mad. Too many times we questioned
- 8:17Speaker 1: athletes play. We're not informed that they're not one hundred
- 8:21Speaker 1: percent until after the deal. Think about it, Oh, come back?
- 8:27Speaker 1: Who was they tied in? Uh Scooby Williams plays a
- 8:34Speaker 1: whole year with torn miscus. We don't find out until
- 8:37Speaker 1: after the year's over. He had torn miscus. A lot
- 8:41Speaker 1: of times that happens. Wegman he had something wrong with
- 8:44Speaker 1: him when he when when he It happens all the time,
- 8:47Speaker 1: and coaches can't say, and players can't say, and you
- 8:49Speaker 1: can't you can't divulge until the next year. Ruben Owens,
- 8:52Speaker 1: There's no way Ruben z Owes was on one hundred
- 8:54Speaker 1: percent uh when he came back and played in the
- 8:58Speaker 1: uh uh Las Vegas Bowl two years ago. And you
- 9:04Speaker 1: know that even talked to him, he was not really
- 9:06Speaker 1: one hundred percent last year. You got to those injuries.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Some injuries take a long time to come over, and
- 9:11Speaker 1: you don't know those sometimes until a year and a
- 9:13Speaker 1: half later. So what I'm getting at is I hope
- 9:18Speaker 1: that Sandford comes back quickly and is one hundred percent.
- 9:21Speaker 1: But the uh, the other side of me saying, hmm,
- 9:27Speaker 1: that's a tough deal. Uh. Will he be back one
- 9:31Speaker 1: hundred percent this year? I don't know. And even even
- 9:34Speaker 1: when they sometimes tell you they're going to be one
- 9:37Speaker 1: hundred percent, they got to tell you that you asked
- 9:39Speaker 1: the question, you're not going to say not so tough situation.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Tough situation, But injuries are part of the game. You
- 9:46Speaker 1: hope it works out the best for him, and he's
- 9:49Speaker 1: not the only one on that. And I looked at
- 9:51Speaker 1: the list of players that's coming. It dawned on me
- 9:54Speaker 1: when I when I see Missouri and I go, Wow,
- 9:56Speaker 1: Missouri's bringing junior running back Jamal Roberts. What about their
- 10:01Speaker 1: stud Their stud was David Hardy was shot at gunshot
- 10:08Speaker 1: wound at a concert. So I went and looked he's recovering.
- 10:14Speaker 1: They said he Dwinkowitz said he is ahead of schedule,
- 10:20Speaker 1: but they're trying to, you know, keep rafts on them
- 10:25Speaker 1: and look, once again, these things are delicate things. So
- 10:28Speaker 1: he's going to miss the SEC media days and you
- 10:30Speaker 1: can see maybe he's working out. He doesn't need to,
- 10:34Speaker 1: you know, ask the questions, and all the questions would
- 10:37Speaker 1: be about his injury. So that'll be an interesting situation
- 10:41Speaker 1: being honest with Sandford update on him and looking at
- 10:46Speaker 1: these other players that came back that will be there
- 10:51Speaker 1: next year, I mean at media days next week. People
- 10:58Speaker 1: back for their secondecond year in a row include Georgia
- 11:03Speaker 1: quarterback Gunner Stockton, LSU linebacker Went Weeks, Oklahoma quarterback John mckeirr.
- 11:19Speaker 1: South Carolina quarterback Leonora Sellers Tennessee senior linebacker Arion Carter,
- 11:30Speaker 1: and some guy named Arch Manning from Texas. They all
- 11:35Speaker 1: were at SEC media days last year and they will
- 11:40Speaker 1: be at SEC media days this year. Kind of unusual,
- 11:45Speaker 1: to say the least at enough time. Look this up.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Since A and M has been in the SEC starting
- 11:52Speaker 1: with two thousand and twelve, I would think this has
- 11:57Speaker 1: to be the most first year coaches when you look
- 12:06Speaker 1: at this list. Kentucky Entucky's Will Stein, auburns Alex Ghulish
- 12:14Speaker 1: or Gulash depending on how you look at it, and
- 12:17Speaker 1: it probably depends how his season goes. Florida's John Sumrall,
- 12:31Speaker 1: oh Missus Pete Golding Now he coached three games last
- 12:35Speaker 1: year in the playoffs after Tiffin left, but his first
- 12:39Speaker 1: SEC meetings. Arkansas's Ryan Silver Silverfield. So that's one, two, three, four,
- 12:55Speaker 1: five of the sixteen coaches first time and let's be honest,
- 13:02Speaker 1: Lane Kiffen will be there with a new team, even
- 13:05Speaker 1: though he went five years or six years with things,
- 13:09Speaker 1: five years with old miss but he is old hat.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Who won't be there? Who was the dean of SEC
- 13:17Speaker 1: coaches is Mark Stoops at Kentucky is gone, so I
- 13:22Speaker 1: haven't looked this up, but I assume that probably means
- 13:25Speaker 1: Kirby Smart has the most times at the SEC media
- 13:32Speaker 1: days and with five newcomers, who on the list would
- 13:40Speaker 1: be on the hot seat or is that such a deal?
- 13:45Speaker 1: And I think there always is a hot seat, probably
- 13:49Speaker 1: Shane Beemer, who A and M does play this year
- 13:52Speaker 1: South Carolina. I think Shane's probably in a situation where
- 13:58Speaker 1: he needs to have a good year or they might
- 14:01Speaker 1: be a parting of the ways. I don't think he's
- 14:06Speaker 1: on the hot seat, but the fact that his team
- 14:11Speaker 1: is not hot, it's a pivotal year. I feel for
- 14:17Speaker 1: Josh Heipel and the balls were so hot there for
- 14:24Speaker 1: a couple of years, but they have cooled off rather quickly,
- 14:31Speaker 1: so we'll see how that works out with him. A
- 14:35Speaker 1: little bit of news today Auburn. Auburn baseball team. Man,
- 14:42Speaker 1: they're young. They had a good year. They should have
- 14:46Speaker 1: even a better year next year, even though, like I said,
- 14:50Speaker 1: college baseball just don't know about those injuries. Auburn haird
- 14:58Speaker 1: Georgie's Nick Amoretti as hitting coach. You know, George offense,
- 15:05Speaker 1: you talk about a team that could hit of course
- 15:08Speaker 1: they had, they had a park tailored to it. But
- 15:14Speaker 1: Auburn goes in and steals a coach for Georgia. We've
- 15:19Speaker 1: seen that a lot lately, haven't we A and m
- 15:22Speaker 1: goes in gets Cane back from Texas. This to me,
- 15:28Speaker 1: I wanted to talk about this for Jay gets in.
- 15:31Speaker 1: This is the sign of the times that we're in.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Ole Miss possibly could take two LSU football players to
- 15:42Speaker 1: court over their buyouts. Think about that. College players are
- 15:48Speaker 1: gonna have to go to court for their buyouts. Prince
- 15:50Speaker 1: will a minimum and Devon Arpero. We had a butcher
- 15:55Speaker 1: of those names. They're at LSU. But the four former players,
- 16:01Speaker 1: oh oh miss money after entering the portal, after signing
- 16:07Speaker 1: compensation deals. Man, it's it's you talk about the difference
- 16:15Speaker 1: in the sport today. Your word's got to be something
- 16:19Speaker 1: or something right, But guess what if your work, your
- 16:22Speaker 1: words should always mean a lot. But when you put
- 16:25Speaker 1: it on paper, come on, let's be honest. You put
- 16:30Speaker 1: your name on paper, it's it means even a lot more.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Throw something out there. The n c DOAA women's basketball
- 16:43Speaker 1: tournament at a little tweak to it because of the
- 16:47Speaker 1: way they're going to see things. They tried to place
- 16:52Speaker 1: four teams from a concert in different for the top
- 16:57Speaker 1: four teams of a conference in different regions to avoid
- 17:01Speaker 1: them playing against each other until the final four rother
- 17:04Speaker 1: they're doing away with that basically, and it's kind of convoluted.
- 17:10Speaker 1: But once again, is I hate to be ugly, but
- 17:17Speaker 1: it's like some of the good women's teams are hogging
- 17:21Speaker 1: the spotlight. You could see this happen. You just can't
- 17:24Speaker 1: go ahead and put them in the in the It's
- 17:29Speaker 1: hard when the SEC has like five good teams, there's
- 17:34Speaker 1: not five, you know, regions, so you're gonna have to
- 17:37Speaker 1: have two and one. So it's a minor tweak. And
- 17:40Speaker 1: let's be honest. And somebody tournaments are going to seventy
- 17:43Speaker 1: six also with twenty twenty seven, so that'll be different
- 17:49Speaker 1: as well. Here's I found an interesting article that I
- 17:54Speaker 1: think it came was from CBS Sports. They went ahead
- 18:00Speaker 1: and reviewed the top thirty two blue Chippers from nineteen
- 18:08Speaker 1: twenty four. Nineteen twenty four. If I'm about twenty twenty four,
- 18:12Speaker 1: and I'll tell you what before I get into that,
- 18:15Speaker 1: I'm going to give you a break. Summer is here.
- 18:20Speaker 1: The weather is hot.
- 18:21Speaker 2: The animals need taking care of. They always need taking
- 18:24Speaker 2: care of, whether weather's hot or cold. A Producers Cooperative
- 18:28Speaker 2: has been helping farmers and ranchers do just that since
- 18:32Speaker 2: World War Two. You don't have to be a farmer
- 18:34Speaker 2: or a rancher to appreciate everything that Producers has right
- 18:38Speaker 2: there on Texas Avenue, just a little bit north of
- 18:42Speaker 2: Highway twenty one. Of course, a huge lawn and garden center,
- 18:47Speaker 2: but so much, so much more animal.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Care, pet care products.
- 18:52Speaker 2: They manufacture their own feed, their own fertilizer. Drop by
- 18:56Speaker 2: and see them front door parking. It's very convenient. Check
- 19:00Speaker 2: them out on the website at Producers Cooperative dot com.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Over ten thousand members and still growing. The largest eggs
- 19:10Speaker 2: apply co op in the state of Texas. Producers Cooperative
- 19:14Speaker 2: Everything Aggs is nineteen forty three.
- 19:19Speaker 5: Sure, the flowers are pretty and the warmer weather's nice,
- 19:22Speaker 5: but some things aren't so great about spring running noses,
- 19:25Speaker 5: itt gyies, coughing, sneezing, and oh, by the way.
- 19:28Speaker 6: You've got a whole bunch of cleaning to do.
- 19:29Speaker 7: But let's start with cleaning something easy, like your vehicle.
- 19:32Speaker 5: At clubcar wash. Add in the free vacuums, unlimited memberships,
- 19:36Speaker 5: and those sweet microfiber towels and spring isn't looking so.

- 19:43Speaker 7: Common Wash, Shine.

- 21:19Speaker 4: you do. And the Louis Bellina show.
- 21:29Speaker 6: I don't need.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't need big BODYE I do?
- 21:37Speaker 11: I got.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Well, I have everything I need. Okay, talking about lists,
- 21:45Speaker 1: that was a good list? Where did you go? Klea
- 21:48Speaker 1: cayleb picked there talking about good list? That's great. I
- 21:53Speaker 1: don't stay out all night. I work all night. I
- 21:56Speaker 1: got a lot of people can attest to. At three am,
- 22:00Speaker 1: you can go ahead and text me odds are I
- 22:02Speaker 1: will be up. Don't call me because then you get
- 22:05Speaker 1: everybody else in the house up and they're not happy.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Robert saysna filling in, No, I could fill in for
- 22:11Speaker 1: Chip Howard. Let's be honest. I'm just on the show.
- 22:14Speaker 1: There's only one Charles Howard, so let me go ahead. God,
- 22:19Speaker 1: you're with us for a Tuesday afternoon. I went to
- 22:23Speaker 1: lunch with the wife. I wanted to make it Thursday Wednesday.
- 22:26Speaker 1: I walk into the car and I said, okay, on
- 22:27Speaker 1: Wednesday we normally go. She goes, it's Tuesday. I go, oh, yeah,
- 22:31Speaker 1: it is Tuesday. So you know, you always got to
- 22:34Speaker 1: have help talk about lists. I like it when people
- 22:41Speaker 1: do a lot of research and have a good list.
- 22:45Speaker 1: And I said, I think this was a CBS. I
- 22:47Speaker 1: should have wrote it down. But anyway, the guy went
- 22:53Speaker 1: back and looked at the five star football recruits in
- 22:57Speaker 1: twenty twenty four, just a couple of years right, and
- 23:02Speaker 1: their categories were in question. Their talents meeting expectations or
- 23:12Speaker 1: exceeding expectations. Thirty two okay, not surprisingly, sixteen are in question,
- 23:24Speaker 1: in other words, not living up to those five stars
- 23:30Speaker 1: that they were. A couple names jump out at you.
- 23:36Speaker 1: DJ Lagway came here or was it last year at
- 23:40Speaker 1: Florida A and M has played him a couple of
- 23:42Speaker 1: times or whatever. He's now at Baylor trying to save
- 23:48Speaker 1: the Bears and kind of save his career because he
- 23:53Speaker 1: hasn't been who he thought he should be. Another one
- 24:01Speaker 1: that I go, Ah, that's right, that's a good one.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Terry Bussey, A and M wide receiver. Bussy was the crowd,
- 24:14Speaker 1: you know, one of the crown jewels and that twenty
- 24:15Speaker 1: twenty four draft. But you know, class two A kid,
- 24:22Speaker 1: he kind of said to yourself, is he good enough?
- 24:25Speaker 1: Is he gonna be able to? He showed flashes. But
- 24:29Speaker 1: let's be honest. How many guys of A and M committed,
- 24:31Speaker 1: you know, brought in I mean you look at the
- 24:35Speaker 1: wide receiver rooms, you bring in conceptci one, you look
- 24:40Speaker 1: her craver all better than Bussy.
- 24:43Speaker 6: Uh, I don't know.
- 24:46Speaker 1: What twenty receptions never making twenty receptions. You know he committed.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Was he gonna play offense? Was he gonna play defense?
- 24:55Speaker 1: Everybody was going. But let's be honest, Elkos last two
- 24:59Speaker 1: years in classes or whatever. Uh so he's gonna get
- 25:03Speaker 1: he's got less playing time. So he's on that list
- 25:07Speaker 1: of in question, Michael, who else is in that list?
- 25:16Speaker 1: Michael Hudson, the guys where is it Texas Tech or
- 25:22Speaker 1: A and M University.
- 25:24Speaker 5: Uh?
- 25:25Speaker 1: He was the highest you know, Saidee in Tech history,
- 25:28Speaker 1: then he went to sign with A, A and M.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Then he went back to Tech. Talk about not living
- 25:34Speaker 1: up to your expectations. On the flip side, they also
- 25:42Speaker 1: put down meeting expectations. Like I said, they had three categories.
- 25:48Speaker 1: A couple guys meeting expectations. Georgia cornerback Ellis Robinson, Texas
- 25:59Speaker 1: wide receiver Cam Coleman, who transferred from albert A and M.
- 26:05Speaker 1: I think would have loved to have him still, even
- 26:08Speaker 1: though they look pretty set on wide receivers. Cam Coleman
- 26:13Speaker 1: is h is a pretty good looking athlete. We'll see
- 26:18Speaker 1: if he's able to maybe meet those expectations. Another one
- 26:24Speaker 1: in the SEC to meet expectations, Ryan Williams, wide receiver
- 26:29Speaker 1: at Alabama. He is definitely doing well. Another guy meeting
- 26:36Speaker 1: expectations of five star from that class that A and
- 26:39Speaker 1: M saw firsthand last year. Defensive lineman Justin Scott of Miami. Yeah,
- 26:47Speaker 1: he is meeting expectations. Georgia safety kJ Bold Bolden He's
- 26:55Speaker 1: done well without a doubt. Uh oh yeah. Quarterback, Oh
- 27:03Speaker 1: I stay quarterback Julian saying me under meeting expectations and
- 27:12Speaker 1: as you often see a lot of SEC players, if
- 27:17Speaker 1: you want to go look at the rest of that
- 27:20Speaker 1: leg rest of that league. What about exceeding expectations? Not
- 27:27Speaker 1: so many of those of the thirty two. The top
- 27:31Speaker 1: guy from that class, though, is definitely exceeding expectations. What
- 27:37Speaker 1: about a high estate wide receiver jarre Emiah Smith, He's
- 27:43Speaker 1: definitely exceeding expectations. And I don't know, they had very
- 27:50Speaker 1: few others on this list with exceeding expectations except for
- 27:59Speaker 1: Dayalen Stuart edge rusher from South Carolina. The fact that
- 28:06Speaker 1: Shane Bieber was able to keep him, you know, able
- 28:09Speaker 1: to keep his quarterback Sellers, He's got a chance for
- 28:14Speaker 1: a good season. But we'll see also exceeding expectations from
- 28:20Speaker 1: that class Texas edge rusher Colin Simmons. And of course
- 28:27Speaker 1: I have to laugh when I look at those thirty
- 28:30Speaker 1: two players that were five stars thirty two in twenty
- 28:38Speaker 1: twenty four. Let me see how many were s How
- 28:43Speaker 1: many are right now in the sec one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Guess what seventeen? I can count on the air. It's
- 29:16Speaker 1: amazing what I can do. When I can count on
- 29:19Speaker 1: the air, I'll tell you what. Guess what you have

- 30:39Speaker 9: with a focus towards adding pitching to the farm system.
- 30:41Speaker 9: Texas used the sixteenth overall pick on left handed pitcher
- 30:45Speaker 9: Geo Rojas from Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, the
- 30:48Speaker 9: same school as former co star Anthony Rizzo. Rojas, at
- 30:51Speaker 9: six foot four, is known for his power on the
- 30:53Speaker 9: mound with a ninety eight mile per hour fastball and
- 30:56Speaker 9: a supporting cast in the slider or sweeper. And lastly,
- 30:59Speaker 9: the changeup command is no issue for Rohas, and how
- 31:01Speaker 9: often he uses that changeable determine how fast he reaches

- 31:07Speaker 9: selected infielder Carner Comeo, pitcher Brody Vamilla from Massachusetts, and
- 31:11Speaker 9: pitcher Hudson Calhoun from Old miss for the first four rounds.
- 31:15Speaker 9: Texas ended up using twelve of their twenty picks on pitchers,
- 31:18Speaker 9: thirteen if you include the two way player. Michael Anderson
- 31:21Speaker 9: Junior from Penn State with your Texas Rangers report. I'm

- 32:27Speaker 1: I bring in the guests for the rest or co
- 32:31Speaker 1: host whatever you want to call them, the rest of
- 32:32Speaker 1: I want. Someone was listening. I always appreciate that, and
- 32:35Speaker 1: someone text in said to remind when I was popping
- 32:39Speaker 1: all around talking about the A and M sports, about
- 32:42Speaker 1: the fact is that former A and M All America
- 32:46Speaker 1: whos basketball Kennedy Carters without a team again, as the
- 32:50Speaker 1: Aces cut her a couple of weeks ago. Kennedy Carter
- 32:55Speaker 1: great talent to cover, but just has a rough time
- 33:00Speaker 1: playing with friends, so to speak or whatever, because it's
- 33:03Speaker 1: like the third time she's been cut. And yeah, I know,
- 33:08Speaker 1: I welcome Jake Wiese who works with me at the Eagle.
- 33:13Speaker 1: Carter was gone by time you got there. You probably
- 33:16Speaker 1: remember her from the Auburn days. He went to Auburn Carter.
- 33:19Speaker 6: Yeah, Kennedy Carter.
- 33:21Speaker 13: Yeah, I think maybe we saw her maybe once or
- 33:23Speaker 13: twice come to Auburn obviously and play the women's basketball team.
- 33:27Speaker 6: So yeah, I want to say at least once or
- 33:29Speaker 6: twice we saw her in action.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I had a few.
- 33:32Speaker 11: Uh.
- 33:32Speaker 1: You know, it's it's funny how the things go full circle.
- 33:35Speaker 1: I remember this year having a couple uh, sitting around
- 33:37Speaker 1: people in break rooms or whatever, when you have time
- 33:40Speaker 1: talking about A and M women's best basketball player. You know,
- 33:45Speaker 1: Kennedy Carter's got to be up there. Danielle Adams has
- 33:49Speaker 1: got to be up there. Walker's got to be up there.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Everybody has their favorite on there, and I always hate
- 33:57Speaker 1: to say greatness and what have you, but there's no
- 34:01Speaker 1: doubt it's hard to vote for somebody that when they
- 34:05Speaker 1: have problems. I'd to say off the field, And I
- 34:08Speaker 1: know you're not supposed to look only look on on
- 34:10Speaker 1: the field deals. But that being said, I hope Kennedy
- 34:13Speaker 1: Carter finds a job somewhere and gets her act together.
- 34:19Speaker 1: As long as she's got talent, she's gonna have a
- 34:21Speaker 1: chance to click somewhere. So see what happens. That's all
- 34:25Speaker 1: I can say.
- 34:25Speaker 6: She can get your basket.
- 34:27Speaker 1: She can get your basket, and she can get you
- 34:30Speaker 1: a three point play. Jake's with me. Now, Jake covers.
- 34:34Speaker 1: He's come on, you work at the Eagle, you cover everything.
- 34:37Speaker 1: But of course he works desk, but he also covers
- 34:40Speaker 1: a lot of high schools, helps out at a and
- 34:42Speaker 1: m once in a while. First of all, what's the
- 34:44Speaker 1: best thing been about your summer?
- 34:46Speaker 9: Oh?
- 34:47Speaker 6: My brother getting married?
- 34:48Speaker 1: Oh that's right. You went to Emily for a while.
- 34:50Speaker 13: I did, Yes, Italy and London, so he got and
- 34:52Speaker 13: London Italy, Yes and London. So I guess it's already happened.
- 34:57Speaker 13: So I can say this, you know, the first week.
- 35:00Speaker 13: The actual wedding in Italy was awesome, had a great time.
- 35:04Speaker 13: He was the first of my siblings to get married,
- 35:06Speaker 13: so new experience. Many siblings, you have two okay, both older.
- 35:09Speaker 13: I'm the baby if you will, so great experience there.
- 35:13Speaker 13: And then the second half was more of a vacation
- 35:15Speaker 13: pun intended.
- 35:16Speaker 6: Went in Rome.
- 35:17Speaker 13: We went to go sight seeing London afterwards, so that
- 35:20Speaker 13: was very fun. Okay, first time to both those places, yes,
- 35:24Speaker 13: first time. Always interested when I go to a new place.
- 35:28Speaker 13: Did those places kind of what you expected? Did you
- 35:32Speaker 13: see the expectations? You want to go back once is enough?
- 35:36Speaker 13: London definitely exceeded expectations. I thought London was really cool.
- 35:40Speaker 13: I feel like there was a lot more we could
- 35:42Speaker 13: have done, and we saw all the sites that you
- 35:44Speaker 13: want to see when you first you think of London.
- 35:47Speaker 6: So that was great.
- 35:48Speaker 13: Italy was really enjoyable as well for me, Like I said,
- 35:52Speaker 13: real first international trip for me. The language barrier was
- 35:56Speaker 13: a little hard to get over for me. I'm sure
- 35:59Speaker 13: if I travel more internationally, I'd be used to it.
- 36:01Speaker 13: But those first couple of days, you know, people are
- 36:03Speaker 13: trying to talk to you in their language and you're
- 36:05Speaker 13: kind of just standing there, kind of just smiling at
- 36:07Speaker 13: him that that was a little weird.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Did you have to take a language at Auburn or not?
- 36:14Speaker 1: I did.
- 36:14Speaker 6: I took Spanish.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Oh I took Spanish. You're pretty good in speaking Spanish.
- 36:17Speaker 6: Sure, Oh no, not really.
- 36:20Speaker 1: I always tell people poco poco because that's what I
- 36:23Speaker 1: took Spanish, and that's this means little. Oh, okay, I
- 36:25Speaker 1: think it means. I think that means very little.
- 36:27Speaker 6: Well, you know what, I was enjoyable. I was enjoyable
- 36:29Speaker 6: having class at least.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Okay, cool. We'll remind everybody if you want to, you know,
- 36:35Speaker 1: go ahead, and you got a question or comment, you
- 36:37Speaker 1: can call us a six nine three eleven fifty pound
- 36:39Speaker 1: eleven fifty or just Texas at ninety seventy nine six
- 36:43Speaker 1: nine three eleven fifty. We'll get Kaylee out there. She
- 36:46Speaker 1: can do something other than that. Kleb will keep playing
- 36:48Speaker 1: the tunes. Obviously. I always have to laugh. Been in
- 36:53Speaker 1: and been in Texas a long time, but Texas football
- 36:56Speaker 1: comes out. That's another sign. Even though oh I used
- 37:00Speaker 1: to say football's around the corner, but keep's coming out
- 37:02Speaker 1: to me too early.
- 37:04Speaker 13: Yeah, I was gonna say it came out what before
- 37:06Speaker 13: seven on stay seven on seven we had Oh wow, yeah,
- 37:09Speaker 13: I mean I.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Guess that's probably to sell more copies seven on seven.
- 37:12Speaker 6: Yeah, I get they do sell a couple of copies
- 37:14Speaker 6: out there.
- 37:14Speaker 13: I think they usually bring maybe like fifty to one
- 37:16Speaker 13: hundred out there, and if you bring twenty bucks or
- 37:19Speaker 13: maybe a little maybe twenty five, twenty or twenty five bucks,
- 37:21Speaker 13: they'll give you a copy.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Oh okay, it is that much. I didn't realize that
- 37:25Speaker 1: much this year. Have to look at it.
- 37:26Speaker 13: Maybe most people I know just bring a twenty but
- 37:28Speaker 13: I thought it was twenty bucks. Maybe it's ten.
- 37:30Speaker 1: Holy moly. I was gonna say, they're pretty smart. They're
- 37:33Speaker 1: not putting a price on here. That's pretty oh fourteen.
- 37:37Speaker 6: Ninety nine fourteen okay, so close enough on this one.
- 37:39Speaker 1: On this one, whatever, Texas Tech on the cover. That
- 37:43Speaker 1: didn't surprise me, I joked, I ain't didn't pay enough money. Yeah,
- 37:47Speaker 1: you know, it's like Texas football. Probably they probably should
- 37:50Speaker 1: get it started getting sponsored, you know what's.
- 37:53Speaker 13: Yeah, well, hey, the question I want to know is
- 37:54Speaker 13: you know how early they planned the cover and you know,
- 37:57Speaker 13: was there ever an addition with sores beyond ooh yeah,
- 38:00Speaker 13: good point.
- 38:00Speaker 6: You gotta think about it. I mean this came out
- 38:03Speaker 6: with four seven on seven.
- 38:04Speaker 1: I would think I would think if they did take
- 38:07Speaker 1: pictures with him, that would have leaked out. Good point, though, Jake. Yeah,
- 38:11Speaker 1: and it's interesting. Well let's just let's tell you know
- 38:14Speaker 1: once again, as I've talked a lot about A and M,
- 38:16Speaker 1: let's look a little bit at the high schools around here.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Uh you know, uh, let's think that's that's where relive
- 38:24Speaker 1: if we can't last year, if I remember right and
- 38:27Speaker 1: I covered enough games, I hope you know we'll get
- 38:30Speaker 1: two things wrong. But College Station finished strong after having
- 38:35Speaker 1: their worst start in program history, if I'm not mistaken.
- 38:39Speaker 6: Yeah, own four it never happened before.
- 38:41Speaker 1: And then AIM Consolidated had a nice run. Was that
- 38:45Speaker 1: Beaumont Central? They lost to an unbeaten team.
- 38:48Speaker 13: Both of them lost to port Uto Memorial. There you go,
- 38:51Speaker 13: and it was actually weeks before each other. I wrote
- 38:53Speaker 13: this down because I thought it might come up.
- 38:56Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 38:57Speaker 13: Uh, A M Consolidated lost in the second round area
- 38:59Speaker 13: around on the Port Arthur Memorial. Then College Station got
- 39:02Speaker 13: him the next week and lost. Because I actually think
- 39:05Speaker 13: you and I switched. You covered and Consolidated game, Yes
- 39:08Speaker 13: I did, and then I covered College Station the next week,
- 39:10Speaker 13: so we both got to see him.
- 39:11Speaker 1: And very impressed with their quarterback. He went to TCU.
- 39:14Speaker 1: I want to say as a defensive.
- 39:15Speaker 6: Back, running back running, but you're right, yeah.
- 39:18Speaker 1: But he was very good. He was just he was
- 39:20Speaker 1: so elusive. He's an athlete, yea athlete, an athlete, that's.
- 39:23Speaker 6: The He didn't have to throw it at all. They
- 39:24Speaker 6: could just give him, snap it to him and he
- 39:26Speaker 6: could run.
- 39:27Speaker 1: That being said, my game once again is I give
- 39:31Speaker 1: a plug to coaching because Consolidated did enough place at all,
- 39:36Speaker 1: most stayed with them, and uh they Port Arthur was
- 39:42Speaker 1: a more Port Arthur.
- 39:43Speaker 10: Right.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Port Arthur was the more talented team all but Console
- 39:49Speaker 1: played more fundamental and almost you know, stayed in the
- 39:54Speaker 1: game longer. And I think that bodes well. And uh
- 39:58Speaker 1: Schmid has done a great all over there, just as
- 40:01Speaker 1: Stony is done. But I would think, uh, those teams
- 40:06Speaker 1: will be able to use last year to spring forward.
- 40:10Speaker 1: And I know you're right. I covered that last kitts
- 40:13Speaker 1: So Holiday game. They didn't have their quarterback because Goodwin
- 40:16Speaker 1: got hurt early. And speaking of injuries, which I did
- 40:20Speaker 1: before injuries in high schools. Man, you know your quarterback,
- 40:23Speaker 1: that's tough.
- 40:23Speaker 13: Well, I was thinking about this actually a little earlier
- 40:26Speaker 13: in the day, Kansas especially. You know, you think about
- 40:29Speaker 13: all three of Smith's seasons so far have not been
- 40:32Speaker 13: derailed because of injury, but he's had an injury every year.
- 40:35Speaker 13: That kind of makes you go, man, what could have
- 40:37Speaker 13: happened if they were healthy? You know, his first year
- 40:40Speaker 13: they played Smithson Valley in the region final. Will Harget
- 40:43Speaker 13: gets hurt I think in the fourth quarter.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Oh, that's right.
- 40:46Speaker 13: The second year, remember he got hurt again. They had
- 40:48Speaker 13: to start playing Jaden Muhlenberg at quarterback. And he wasn't
- 40:51Speaker 13: the only injury. Colton Smeller also was hurt that second year.
- 40:55Speaker 1: So each year that was a big loss Smeller because
- 40:57Speaker 1: Jack's such a good kicker and received or what have you.
- 41:00Speaker 13: But yeah, he was a big target. That's the thing
- 41:03Speaker 13: I think you're talking about A and M. I mean,
- 41:04Speaker 13: he can kick, but he can also you can line
- 41:07Speaker 13: up out there and he's a big guy.
- 41:08Speaker 1: And if your Schmidt listened to us right now, he said,
- 41:10Speaker 1: did those guys have to keep talking about injuries? Because
- 41:12Speaker 1: you know, you know, you're right it's tough at high schools.
- 41:16Speaker 1: Luckily in five A and six eight, a lot of
- 41:20Speaker 1: guys don't go two ways, so hopefully that'll be but
- 41:24Speaker 1: with good when coming back and I, I know you
- 41:27Speaker 1: covered the game, but I went out and watched I
- 41:29Speaker 1: want to say when Consolidated played college Station. Yeah right,
- 41:33Speaker 1: anytime you get to those, those are the kind of
- 41:35Speaker 1: games you just need to go see. I know the
- 41:37Speaker 1: construction was horrible. I had a rough time parking, but
- 41:40Speaker 1: those are the kind of games you need to go see.
- 41:42Speaker 13: Hey, I also had a rough time party and I
- 41:44Speaker 13: got there a little earlier than you did, so I
- 41:46Speaker 13: guess I should have taken a playbook out of Alex,
- 41:48Speaker 13: the Alex Miller playbook and got there.
- 41:49Speaker 6: I think he got there like an hour and an
- 41:51Speaker 6: hour and a half early. Of course he did.
- 41:53Speaker 13: Yeah, so he had no problems getting the parking spot.
- 41:55Speaker 13: But I showed up and yeah, I had to call him,
- 41:57Speaker 13: and I almost asking him. I think I even call him,
- 41:58Speaker 13: asked him, Hey, where should I park close by that
- 42:01Speaker 13: I could walk? But I found a spot.
- 42:03Speaker 1: Okay, For our local betters, let's get the update on
- 42:06Speaker 1: Jake weize'sh forecast for what we might expect for the
- 42:09Speaker 1: Tigers and the Cougars.
- 42:11Speaker 6: Wow, okay, put me on the spot. Yeah, wow, okay,
- 42:16Speaker 6: Well for both of them.
- 42:18Speaker 13: I mean I think both of them are gonna make
- 42:19Speaker 13: the playoffs. Obviously, how far they go we'll see. At
- 42:24Speaker 13: least right now, just looking at both teams, I think
- 42:26Speaker 13: Cansol if they can stay healthy. For casual fans, maybe
- 42:31Speaker 13: someone who just comes out to like the rivalry game
- 42:33Speaker 13: or you know, the big games. I think on paper
- 42:35Speaker 13: right now you probably recognize more names and numbers from
- 42:38Speaker 13: last year than College Station.
- 42:40Speaker 6: But I think if you look at both of them,
- 42:42Speaker 6: they're pretty even.
- 42:44Speaker 13: I think, like this year at least, like hey, they
- 42:46Speaker 13: haven't even put the pads on yet, we're not even
- 42:48Speaker 13: in August. But I think both of them this year,
- 42:51Speaker 13: like when they meet in Week four, I think they
- 42:52Speaker 13: could both be easily undefeated going into that game Week five,
- 42:56Speaker 13: Week five excuse would be nice.
- 42:58Speaker 6: Yeah, I think so.
- 42:59Speaker 13: I mean it shows to hey, Dave Campbell, just like us,
- 43:02Speaker 13: they don't get everything right all the time, but they're
- 43:04Speaker 13: both top twenty five preseason. I think Console's thirteen, college
- 43:08Speaker 13: Station sixteen. So even they're having a hard time deciding. Yeah,
- 43:12Speaker 13: you know, who's better there?
- 43:14Speaker 1: Where's the game? The game this year? I mean it's
- 43:15Speaker 1: a new it's a new.
- 43:16Speaker 13: Two year pack, right it is. Yeah, this is the
- 43:19Speaker 13: first year only Shart this year who gets the home game?
- 43:22Speaker 13: College station gets the home game. I think that's gonna
- 43:26Speaker 13: be the final away game for console. And then they
- 43:30Speaker 13: start playing games at home because remember tiger Land Stadium's
- 43:33Speaker 13: currently under construction. So a good point. I think the
- 43:36Speaker 13: first five games or maybe on the road. I know
- 43:38Speaker 13: Knsole only has four home games all year.
- 43:41Speaker 6: And that tough.
- 43:42Speaker 1: That's gonna be tough.
- 43:43Speaker 13: That is six six away games, four at home. Yeah,
- 43:46Speaker 13: that's if you're a senior. You're probably a little myth
- 43:48Speaker 13: by that, both as a fan and as a player.
- 43:50Speaker 1: Yeah. And actually, what I've seen teams before play a
- 43:55Speaker 1: lot of their first games on the road, and I
- 43:57Speaker 1: think Burton went through this for a whole season. But well,
- 44:00Speaker 1: I think we really believe it or not. In Texas,
- 44:03Speaker 1: September games can be so hot, yeah, for fans and
- 44:07Speaker 1: for teams. And if you do like three Friday nights
- 44:10Speaker 1: in a row, you gotta pack up the yellow Dog
- 44:13Speaker 1: or whatever and got to go somewhere and get out
- 44:15Speaker 1: in the Texas heat. I think that's pretty tough.
- 44:18Speaker 6: I think so too.
- 44:19Speaker 13: I think, yeah, I think them they're really gonna be
- 44:21Speaker 13: battle tested by the time, and I think the fans
- 44:24Speaker 13: are gonna be excited when they have that first home game.
- 44:26Speaker 13: But you're right, I mean, that's not a tough that's
- 44:28Speaker 13: a hard thing to do, especially at the high school level.
- 44:30Speaker 13: I mean, everybody says in the SEC you know, hey,
- 44:32Speaker 13: winning on the roads hard. I think high school is
- 44:35Speaker 13: the same way, especially having to just play each week
- 44:37Speaker 13: on the road. I mean, you know, everybody always likes
- 44:40Speaker 13: to jokes when they get back from vacation, just want
- 44:42Speaker 13: to sleep with my own bed.
- 44:43Speaker 6: You know, I'm sure those players.
- 44:44Speaker 13: By the time we get the week four, week five,
- 44:46Speaker 13: they're gonna feel the same way. H Heck, that college
- 44:49Speaker 13: station game, they might be happy because they get to
- 44:50Speaker 13: at least stay in town for the night.
- 44:52Speaker 6: They don't have to travel too far.
- 44:54Speaker 1: That's true. Uh, you know we mentioned I'd be remiss
- 44:58Speaker 1: if they're saying a couple more as we mentioned. I mean,
- 45:01Speaker 1: obviously a good one. You always mentioned a quarterback and
- 45:06Speaker 1: to me, you go out and watch Schmidt teams pretty basic,
- 45:11Speaker 1: you know, you know, his linemen are usually pretty good,
- 45:15Speaker 1: pretty uh fundamental team. They don't didn't have like the
- 45:20Speaker 1: thousand and fifteen hundred yard rusher, but kind of a
- 45:23Speaker 1: balanced offense. What do you see from them this year?
- 45:26Speaker 13: Well, first, you're just saying pretty good offensive line. You know,
- 45:30Speaker 13: I want coach SMT if he's listening, to know that
- 45:32Speaker 13: was ceased, not me, because you know, coach SMTT coaches
- 45:34Speaker 13: the offensive line, that's his position group.
- 45:37Speaker 1: So yeah, I didn't know that. That's why I had you.
- 45:39Speaker 6: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 45:40Speaker 13: Anytime I always make the joke, not to him, of course,
- 45:43Speaker 13: but around the office. I always say, like, if you
- 45:45Speaker 13: ever talk to coach Smitt, you know, and you're kind
- 45:47Speaker 13: of worried or you don't know what to ask him
- 45:49Speaker 13: right away, just ask him about his offensive line, like
- 45:50Speaker 13: he'll you'll immediately get on his side if that's the
- 45:53Speaker 13: first question.
- 45:53Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's interesting because he doesn't. I hate to
- 45:57Speaker 1: say this. I know you dealt with him more than
- 45:59Speaker 1: I am. Every meaning, every interaction I had, it has
- 46:04Speaker 1: been great.
- 46:04Speaker 6: He's great.
- 46:05Speaker 1: He just doesn't seem like, doesn't seem to me like
- 46:07Speaker 1: the offensive line type he made me a defensive end
- 46:10Speaker 1: I would have guessed, you know, or a linebacker. I
- 46:13Speaker 1: wouldn't have guess an offensive line.
- 46:14Speaker 13: Yeah, yeah, he played it at Uh. Me and him
- 46:17Speaker 13: have talked about this before. You know, he played offensive
- 46:19Speaker 13: line at Sam Houston State and then that's his position
- 46:22Speaker 13: group that he coaches now. So yeah, that's his baby.
- 46:25Speaker 13: It feels weird to call lineman babies, but that's his baby,
- 46:27Speaker 13: so to speak. So, but I know some of the
- 46:30Speaker 13: other guys that I think I really look for at
- 46:32Speaker 13: kannsol this year. One of the interesting things of him
- 46:35Speaker 13: talking with him about springball. You know, i'd say this
- 46:38Speaker 13: area season you correct me if I'm wrong. I feel
- 46:40Speaker 13: like this is an area that really loves his running backs,
- 46:43Speaker 13: you know, and running backs are kind of the position
- 46:44Speaker 13: group that everybody, you know, maybe outside of quarterback, everybody
- 46:48Speaker 13: knows the running back. Everybody seems to have the gout
- 46:50Speaker 13: running back. But they're really excited about their receivers this year.
- 46:54Speaker 13: And I can't think of the last time. I mean,
- 46:56Speaker 13: I've only been here four years, not too long, well
- 46:59Speaker 13: depending on you ask, but uh yeah, but uh, you know,
- 47:03Speaker 13: very really excited about their receiving group. Not just one guy,
- 47:06Speaker 13: Cooper Johnson. He's a senior of Brayln Dixon, he's a junior.
- 47:10Speaker 13: And then Marie Moore, who if a name sounds familiar,
- 47:13Speaker 13: he was in the quarterback battle with good Win last year.
- 47:16Speaker 13: They kind of split reps at the beginning of the
- 47:18Speaker 13: year and then a game against College Station actually last
- 47:21Speaker 13: year that was Goodwin's first start. Kind of he earned
- 47:24Speaker 13: the job after that game, but he more switched over.
- 47:27Speaker 13: He's a senior. He switched over to receiver this spring.
- 47:29Speaker 13: And I mean, Schmid talked about raved about those guys.
- 47:32Speaker 13: He said he thinks as a group, those three have
- 47:35Speaker 13: a chance to be something really special this year. And hey,
- 47:38Speaker 13: they've got Goodwin back, he's healthy, getting them the ball.
- 47:41Speaker 13: I mean, that's kind of a tandem right there, where
- 47:43Speaker 13: you go, Okay, what can these guys do together?
- 47:45Speaker 1: Yeah, Like I said, I just saw them for that game,
- 47:47Speaker 1: and I know I saw them for the playoff game,
- 47:50Speaker 1: but I was impressed with consolidated. I just just look
- 47:55Speaker 1: athletic they had. They had a lot of players that
- 47:58Speaker 1: looked athletic. And then like I said, when they played
- 48:01Speaker 1: Port Arthur that it really had a lot. But it
- 48:05Speaker 1: was a little bit unfair because they had like four
- 48:06Speaker 1: or five almost four or five star star type of players,
- 48:10Speaker 1: don't getting me wrong. Whereas Consoli was, I thought more
- 48:14Speaker 1: like the whole team was good, and it's hard to
- 48:17Speaker 1: you know, if you got you know, if your whole
- 48:20Speaker 1: team's three and a half four stars and then suddenly
- 48:22Speaker 1: you're trying to get top five five stars, it's hard
- 48:25Speaker 1: to do. But yeah, but and and a lot of
- 48:27Speaker 1: those guys were under classmen. I did look at that.
- 48:29Speaker 1: I go, Wow, if I'm Schmid, I'm feeling pretty good
- 48:31Speaker 1: about next year. I hate to lose this game the
- 48:34Speaker 1: noun beaten team, because let's be honest, if you win
- 48:36Speaker 1: that game, you know, you get the upset there, then
- 48:40Speaker 1: you know, you're looking pretty good. But you know, and
- 48:43Speaker 1: I'm looking if i'm him, I'm pretty good because I'm
- 48:46Speaker 1: pretty excited about next year.
- 48:47Speaker 13: Well, hey, and I think I don't know if he
- 48:49Speaker 13: would have been excited about this, but if they won
- 48:51Speaker 13: that game last year, they would have played College Station
- 48:53Speaker 13: in the next round, so.
- 48:55Speaker 1: They had definitely been excited.
- 48:56Speaker 13: Yeah, I was gonna say, at least for us, maybe
- 48:57Speaker 13: they weren't excited, but we would have been excited.
- 49:00Speaker 6: Easy want to cover, and you know, it's it's.
- 49:02Speaker 1: Hard not to, uh, Stony's been around a little bit
- 49:05Speaker 1: longer than schmid yep, as far as we're familiar with.
- 49:08Speaker 1: And you know, last year was the first what I
- 49:11Speaker 1: would call adversity college station is faced, you know under Stony,
- 49:17Speaker 1: because they always were one, you know, da da.
- 49:20Speaker 5: But I was very.
- 49:21Speaker 1: Impressed with the way they responded because I saw some
- 49:26Speaker 1: of their early games because my son played back there,
- 49:29Speaker 1: going way back. But we still have season tickets to
- 49:31Speaker 1: the game, so my wife goes, still got friends out
- 49:35Speaker 1: there even though when we live in Brian. But I
- 49:37Speaker 1: maybe saw them two or three times play and they
- 49:41Speaker 1: just didn't look good to me early in the year.
- 49:43Speaker 1: But that and I told Stony and basketball season, I
- 49:46Speaker 1: was impressed with how far they went because I thought
- 49:49Speaker 1: they weren't gonna be that good. But to get to
- 49:52Speaker 1: go as far as they did, they had to make
- 49:55Speaker 1: a lot of improvement.
- 49:56Speaker 13: Yeah, and hey, I think the best improvement they made
- 49:59Speaker 13: was you had me stopped covering him because they started
- 50:02Speaker 13: out on four Like we mentioned, I covered three of
- 50:04Speaker 13: those four games unfortunate years.
- 50:06Speaker 6: So yeah, exactly, So if Stony's listening, you're right, you know,
- 50:10Speaker 6: don't send him out there exactly.
- 50:12Speaker 13: So yeah, that was a bad one, but no, I
- 50:13Speaker 13: think one of the things that really helped them was
- 50:16Speaker 13: the emergence of running back. He's a senior now, but
- 50:18Speaker 13: he was a junior last year, a Trey Walton. He
- 50:21Speaker 13: really came on strong. I think he finished the year, yeah,
- 50:25Speaker 13: with the stretch up seven or eight games where he
- 50:27Speaker 13: rushed for over one hundred yards, and you know that
- 50:30Speaker 13: was his first season at running back. He actually got
- 50:33Speaker 13: hurt in the playoff game against Port Arthur Memorial and
- 50:37Speaker 13: I scored a wonder sort of like Kensol we talked
- 50:39Speaker 13: about with injuries, you sort of wonder what maybe it
- 50:41Speaker 13: had been like if he had been healthy that game,
- 50:43Speaker 13: because he got hurt in the second quarter and I
- 50:46Speaker 13: want to say they went into halftime maybe fourteen fourteen
- 50:49Speaker 13: or twenty one, twenty one. But losing a guy like
- 50:52Speaker 13: that who rushed for over a thousand yards last year,
- 50:55Speaker 13: and that's tough. I mean, that's no matter how you
- 50:57Speaker 13: slice it. If you're a college team, high school team,
- 50:59Speaker 13: that's tough.
- 51:00Speaker 1: You know, Jack, you're giving me great insight in refreshing
- 51:04Speaker 1: the old mind. And I want to move on before
- 51:07Speaker 1: he run out of time, because I would like to
- 51:08Speaker 1: give Brian and rudder some equal props. Yeah, there's happy
- 51:13Speaker 1: times over there. Because I talked to a lot of
- 51:16Speaker 1: old Brian. They're pretty excited one of their homeboys come home.
- 51:19Speaker 1: Speak Blake Joseph. Joseph's a big name around here, and uh,
- 51:24Speaker 1: he's back home and I've heard, you know, painted the
- 51:29Speaker 1: locker rooms things like that. Blake Joseph's pretty excited about
- 51:32Speaker 1: being back home. And I know you've talked to him
- 51:34Speaker 1: a few times.
- 51:35Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 51:35Speaker 13: Yeah, he's been great to talk with so far. A
- 51:37Speaker 13: class of five. I know they're excited to Like you said,
- 51:40Speaker 13: people are excited to have him. He's excited to be home. Heck,
- 51:43Speaker 13: I know his wife went to a and m consolidated
- 51:45Speaker 13: and his family.
- 51:46Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, that's it.
- 51:47Speaker 6: That's interesting.
- 51:48Speaker 13: I think both families still live here, so you know,
- 51:50Speaker 13: I think the grandparents were also.
- 51:52Speaker 1: That Joseph didn't, but I didn't know the wife did.
- 51:54Speaker 13: I think so if you know, hey, maybe he can
- 51:56Speaker 13: call him tell us if I'm wrong. But I know
- 51:59Speaker 13: one of of things I think for Brian. You know,
- 52:01Speaker 13: we were just talking about, Hey, this is an area
- 52:03Speaker 13: that's known about running backs. He's really excited about his
- 52:05Speaker 13: running backs. He's got two guys. A senior Steven Henry
- 52:08Speaker 13: and then a junior Tristan Turner. I need to ask
- 52:11Speaker 13: ask him next time we talked to him. I don't
- 52:13Speaker 13: know if he's related to Tyson Turner receiver from a
- 52:16Speaker 13: couple of years ago.
- 52:17Speaker 6: That was very good. Yes, he's now at Houston somewhere.
- 52:21Speaker 1: I knew that.
- 52:21Speaker 13: Yeah, started out at tech zat Houston and maybe maybe
- 52:24Speaker 13: if he stuck at Tech he was been on the
- 52:26Speaker 13: cover right dang, But yeah, don't know if that's his
- 52:29Speaker 13: brother or not. But yeah, those are both big guys.
- 52:32Speaker 13: I think he told me during the spring, so, you know,
- 52:34Speaker 13: a couple couple of months have passed since then, but
- 52:36Speaker 13: Henry was weighing in at two o five Turner was
- 52:39Speaker 13: two oh so wow. So gonna have some big running backs.
- 52:42Speaker 13: They're leading the way. I know they're still trying to
- 52:44Speaker 13: kind of come out of last year. Obviously, you know
- 52:47Speaker 13: in ten we all know tough. Yeah, so it's gonna
- 52:50Speaker 13: be a young team, but I know that's kind of
- 52:52Speaker 13: a group.
- 52:53Speaker 6: At least.
- 52:53Speaker 13: You'll see them get the ball. You should see them
- 52:55Speaker 13: get the ball a lot. You'll hear their numbers called
- 52:56Speaker 13: a lot.
- 52:57Speaker 1: And I guess I know I should have looked at
- 53:00Speaker 1: this before, but you know, it's been so busy to
- 53:02Speaker 1: go What about their schedule. Is there somebody in non
- 53:05Speaker 1: district that maybe they could beat to get little momentum
- 53:08Speaker 1: and get put that zero to ten behind as you mentioned.
- 53:11Speaker 6: Yeah, the one.
- 53:12Speaker 13: There's two games I'm looking at, obviously, the one that
- 53:15Speaker 13: you've probably been annoyed with me talking about this so
- 53:17Speaker 13: much in the office, But Brian and Rudder, that's gonna
- 53:20Speaker 13: be a fun rivlary back rivalry game. First time since
- 53:23Speaker 13: twenty seventeen they've played. But actually for Brian, the one
- 53:25Speaker 13: I really look to is season opener Magnolia West. They
- 53:30Speaker 13: played last year. You covered that game.
- 53:32Speaker 6: Yeah, he was at West though he was yeah coach,
- 53:35Speaker 6: head coach.
- 53:36Speaker 13: I think maybe twenty nineteen, twenty twenty or something like that.
- 53:40Speaker 13: So it's been a couple of years, but that was
- 53:42Speaker 13: probably Brian's closest game last year. I think they lost
- 53:45Speaker 13: thirteen to seven in overtime. They get him again, it's
- 53:48Speaker 13: at Merrill Green, and I kind of wonder to myself
- 53:51Speaker 13: looking back on last year. You know, if Brian had
- 53:53Speaker 13: been able to win that game, you know, you some
- 53:56Speaker 13: one win just does so much momentum for you, nobody
- 53:58Speaker 13: wants to go in ten? True, how Brian would have
- 54:00Speaker 13: done if they started off one versush.
- 54:03Speaker 6: And one that's a point in overtime.
- 54:05Speaker 13: So I really do think that Mad West game, how
- 54:07Speaker 13: they come out of that one? Being at home, it's
- 54:09Speaker 13: his first game. It was close last year. I think
- 54:12Speaker 13: if they can win that one, and I think they could.
- 54:14Speaker 6: It was close.
- 54:15Speaker 13: Like I said, close last year. Momentum is a you know,
- 54:18Speaker 13: great thing. I think that could really kind of start
- 54:20Speaker 13: the air off on a right note.
- 54:22Speaker 1: And then what about rudder rudder?
- 54:24Speaker 10: You know?
- 54:25Speaker 1: Okay, it all runs together, Jake? Was it last year
- 54:28Speaker 1: or two years ago? They come real close to the
- 54:29Speaker 1: playoffs They just had to win one more game and
- 54:31Speaker 1: couldn't get into done.
- 54:32Speaker 6: What ye was two years ago?
- 54:34Speaker 1: I thought it was two years ago. Then they took
- 54:35Speaker 1: a dip down last year if I remember right, Yes
- 54:38Speaker 1: they did. They were so close that year with a
- 54:40Speaker 1: transfer from Novisota, look like they're gonna go to the playoffs,
- 54:44Speaker 1: and man, it just eluded them. Then last year they
- 54:47Speaker 1: took a step down. So where's coaches are? Do you
- 54:50Speaker 1: feel in his rangers this year?
- 54:51Speaker 6: Yeah, it's gonna be another young team. That's what he
- 54:53Speaker 6: told me.
- 54:55Speaker 13: You know, they've got some guys that were you know,
- 54:56Speaker 13: they had a lot of sophomores and freshmans having to
- 54:58Speaker 13: fill the ranks, you know, Rudder especially out of everybody.
- 55:01Speaker 13: You know, they kind of have that problem where they're
- 55:03Speaker 13: really like they have to kind of build their teams
- 55:05Speaker 13: up to year three and four. You know, it seems
- 55:07Speaker 13: like to me, at least more than the other schools
- 55:09Speaker 13: in town, they got to wait till that junior and
- 55:11Speaker 13: senior year.
- 55:12Speaker 6: So they're still young. But some of the guys they're
- 55:14Speaker 6: excited about.

- 56:40Speaker 13: couldn't land him, but yeah, he'll be the worth of
- 56:43Speaker 13: the price of a mission. I think too, he'll play Rudder.
